2024.05.14 23:15 NewspaperPossible627 HeadCanon About the Rival Technology - Along With Some Strengthsand some Flaws in My Case

The Rival Tech; you love to see 'em. Well, maybe not "love", unless you're a Leaf-Lover, or something. Or, in my case, a huge fan of technology.
The Rivals, obviously, are a seperate mining corps which are either in possession of (or run entirely by) machines. Whether it be small, flying razor-blades, machine guns embedded in the ground, evil geometry or sadistic cases of psychological warfare with arms (you know which one I'm talking about - Neme... Nem... Nemis... Neem... the big ones that hurt), it's very unlikely you'll make it to retire from DRG without seeing (or hearing) one of the bags of bolts floating around.
Before we get to the fun part, I just want to make it clear - The origins of the Rivals never have been [and may never will be] explained. As far was all hands in R&D are concerned, they're just tin cans.
Now, for my proposition:

The Rival Technology are Controlled By The Elves.

This might sound like a stretch, but hear me out.

Strength 1: Elves are Too Weak for Hoxxean Gravity

Elves, given their weak structure and pathetic bone strength, cannot survive outside of designated planets with a gravity too strong to support them. Even if Hoxxes IV is capable of supporting the Elves, it may be too dangerous (or simply not worth it) to send members of their race to die in the caves. A safer option, however, would be machines. Their thick, robust chassis and ability to fly would make them resistant to the gravity, naturally.

Strength 2: Machine Hostility to the Dwarves Could Be Explained By The Dwarven/Elven Rivalry

It's no secret that we Dwarves are at odds with their kind. Now, whether I believe the Technology is controlled by Elves directly or simply programmed to accomplish work is another question in of itself, but I believe this machine behavior may be due to the fact that Elves simply hate Dwarves.
Take Nemesis, for example. Nemesis has been designed solely to prey on the Dwarves, not accomplish any other major task. It simply cruises around, crushes Dwarves and crashes into the ground to die. That isn't just some natural industrial bickering. Whoever owns the Rival Tech is out for our BLOOD.

Flaw 1: Elves, Famously, Do Not Use Machinery

This is self-explanatory: Elves prefer their toothpicks and string, not the superior power of a double-barrel. The problem comes in the fact that Elves simply don't care for such heavy machinery, so it isn't brilliant to assume they'd operate something like the Rivals.

Flaw 2: Where Did The Parts Come From?

It's obvious that Elves don't own forgeries. Where could such advanced machines come from? Other Dwarves? Orcs?
Overall, I like the headcanon. I don't know if it's plausible or not, but I simply like the idea of such imposing robots being controlled by our weakest enemies.
Let me know what you think, or if you have any other strengths/weaknesses!

2024.05.14 23:13 PipperDigs Can Flipper Zero be accessible to a blind person?

Hi fellow Flipperinos.
A quick note before I start, please don't respond with comments that this just won't work or that Flipper isn't for disabled people. That's an ableist perspective, and is fundamentally against the spirit of hacking. So, if you like thinking about ways to solve problems, read on and chime in...
A friend of mine is a tech geek and he is totally blind. He uses a screen reader (VoiceOver, JAWS, NVDA, etc.) to interact with computers and phones and he LOVES gadgets. I told him I got a Flipper and he got very excited and he wants to get one so badly. Just one problem, there's no screen reader functionality and I haven't found any projects that could make it work with one. He had some ideas, such as using an app on his phone or laptop that reads out or describes the content of the screen via qFlipper. That might have limitations because it's mostly using OCR and image recognition, but it's one possible way.
qFlipper can be used with a keyboard. Arrow keys, enter key, and backspace work well as the device buttons. But it seems the output from the Flipper is only visual. Is that the case? Does flipper just mirror the screen or can it also provide text, option labels, etc. that appears on the screen?
I'm asking this as kind of a thought experiment, but a project I might be interested in tackling. If you were going to make Flipper accessible to a blind person, how would you do it? Would a laptop (PC or Mac) solution be viable? Is there any possible hardware solution, a board plugged into the GIPO that has a headphone jack and screen reader function?

2024.05.14 23:10 xxblackcashxx Is my sig sp2022 fake?

Is my sig sp2022 fake?
Hello guys,
I bought a sig sp2022 from a friend and took it today to the shooting range. I shot 15 bullets and the employee that was helping me told me to stop, he showed me the casings of the bullets I shot. They were buldging and all black.
They took the gun appart, and placed a 9mm bullet in the chamber and it was wiggling, and they told me this chamber will fit a 40. They also put a bullet at the front of the barrel and told me it is going in deeper than it is supposed to. And they noticed some parts of the barrel are yellowish. Their opinion was that it is a turkish fake (which are common in my country)
I fired their glock 19 with the same bullets afterward and the fired bullet casings were not black or buldging.
What is your opinion on this? Could someone really make an exact replica of the gun, with all the german markings? I can't seem to add more than 1 picture.

Where to find a Stainless Steel slide?
I’ve been wanting a 3.7 inch ss slide for my XL for a while now but I called Sig and they said they only make them with optics preinstalled now.
I’d prefer no sights for the time being (and definitely not a Romeo sight) but the only plain optic ready slide I’ve found so far is on Osage County Guns and it’s been out of stock since nam.
My last resort would be to just buy the slide with the optic and get a sightplate too, but I’d like to avoid that if I can. Any advice?

2024.05.14 23:03 Tronator Newcomer to the photography hobby. What camera should I get?

Hello guys, I have been doing some research for the past weeks about photography year and I think im ready to do the jump.
Use for the camera? Photos and videos of my kids and family, school festivals, social events (casually). I also do "keyboard video soundtests on youtube, but even my phone camera works fine. I want to say I would like to bring the camera to travel, but so far I havent really traveled since my kids are just newborns, maybe later in our life we can do family trips.
Budget I would like to stay under $2000 including a decent lens, im just a hobbyist, wont make money out of it, I dont use any photography editor software, might pay lightroom from time to time but I dont have experience. I heard canon kinda edits the photos for you? Might be a plus
Options So far I have come down to 3 options, I dont live in the US, but I will put the prices in american dollars for reference, this is the lowest I have seen the items
Im not planning to get a massive ammount of lenses tbh, maybe I will get 2 for each camera, one for all around use like a 24-70 and a good portrait lens like 50mm.
So thats about it, I probably wont buy a new camera for 5/8 years, I cant be sure, but not in the near future, I guess If i get into the hobby I could buy more lenses, but that is not the case now, so as described earlier, would like 1/2 lenses that even arent the best, I can do general use for my case.
So looking for some general advice about my purchase, I would like one of the smaller cameras, but the a7iii with the lense included is really tempting, but I guess its not worth it if the camera is too big to carry around. I dont want to end up using my phone while having a good camera getting dust

2024.05.14 23:02 sexycharizard The Apathy has already set in. Time for a break from us.

We saw a post that mentioned that complaints aren't the end. The complaints comes from a place of care for the game and how they wish and can see how the game can be better. However, when the complaints are unheard and mocked some people working at AH, the apathy will set in and kill that game.
This was the first week where my SO and I didn't touch helldivers at all. Even with full jobs, we we're playing hours and hours everyday after work and clocked in with 200 hours so far. We looked forward to it. It was all we could talk about and we were just exploring how fun some weapons and loadouts were.
However, after the nerfs to weapons (that made no sense and removed all of the fun such as the Eruptor, crossbow, and slugger to name a few) patrol changes to screw with parties less than 4, frequent crashes, how some items are just useless (Thermite and machine gun sentry to name a few) and weapon/strategem bugs that still linger to this day, this game went from one of our top favorite games to one of our most frustrating games to play. When the community has a running joke to not mention the weapons they like using in fear of a nerf, you know the direction of the game is in a bad spot. It makes it feel like it's players vs devs instead of working together.
The new warbond just sealed the deal with the incomplete weapons and reskins of armors that made no sense to the theme of the warbond. It really shows how little any QA is done before shipping things out (Can't believe they ship out the tier 4 ship modules and the very first one was bugged). Also, something that expedited the apathy is how some of the devs are a bit out of touch of what the community wants (insert quote from a certain someone about how it takes 10,000 hours to test and nothing will be released until 2028 and how all of these weapons are all S tier). Why balance things for difficulty 4-6 if super samples and progressions is locked behind difficulty 7? That just makes no sense.
Love y'all. Love the community. It really shows that y'all care for the game and you just want the game to succeed. The game is still fun sometimes but it's just draining overlooking the glaring issues. Maybe we'll be back but there are so many good games out there that just aren't frustrating to play. Games should be fun and for a PvE game, the sole purpose shouldn't to nerf all of the enjoyment out of everything (and then call it an exploit when that's sole purpose was the only reason why people were using the gun). Buff the other stuff (like the blitzer or senator). See y'all at another time fellow Helldivers. It's time to return to civilian life for a bit.

2024.05.14 22:52 CopioidOverdose Emergency medicine - planning training?

Hi everyone, hope you might be able to help me out with a very noob-y question. I'm a British doc with an ED RMO post lined up in Aus later this year. If I enjoy my time there, I would be keen to stay and try to enter EM training. Out of interest I've been having a look at the ACEM site and how training is organised etc.
One thing that jumps out at me as different to the UK is that there seems to be a lot of self-organisation of placements, e.g. you have certain criteria to meet to satisfy the training programme (X months major referral ED, Y months non-major referral ED, Z months non-ED etc etc), and it's down to trainees to secure placements that meet these criteria. I'm assuming there's a similar process for other specialties too, although I haven't looked. In the UK, training programmes are basically ready-made for you in that respect.
I just wanted to ask whether this is a big source of stress for prospective trainees, or whether it's a straightforward thing? Say you're accepted into training in August for a February start, are the intervening months spent reading the ACEM site information guide thing and desperately trying to organise your placements? Do you sit down one day with a spreadsheet and basically plan out the next 5 years of your life placement by placement? Or have I completely misinterpreted and this isn't the case at all?
I'm jumping the gun a bit but I just wanted to make sure I'm informed, thanks in advance :)

2024.05.14 22:49 gunchasg Despite all the bad things

As title says…Despite all the bad things and negativity lately happening to this game I actually want to say something positive and I’m curious to know what keeps you playing this game?
As a “regular everyday normal mtfckaa” in late 20’s I’m actually valuing my free time and I’m picky about stuff that grant me happiness and joy. And as a major hobby of mine is gaming i’m super picky of games I play because I cant play them all you know…
So.. what I wanted to say with that is that I want my gaming sessions to be rewarding , progressive and not wasted… something like valuable investment. I was a mmorpg guy so I can see this mindset starting from there. I like that my invested time playing has somesort of progress going on and thats gives me joy. I can’t get this feeling from singleplayer games anymore because you finish them and thats it, end of the story. I can’t get this feeling from competitive games (although I was addicted to cs since 1.6 times and skipped school) because I don’t have enough time to stay “competitive” and keep my skills sharp. So basically I dont get the joy and thus it is time wasted for me. ( I know, its addiction )
So I started looking in other directions, and there it was.. simulation games. Started with racing (got cockpit and everything) naah, not for me altough it’s my second hobby related to gaming) . Then i dibbled into aircraft, flying simulators - totaly wasnt my thing…
And then, the majesty, the goddess of them all, Mil-Sim’s. Tried them all but Dayz was the one I stucked into. All I needed was more guns… And then EFT came, the savior, the pastor, the holy spirit himself. It had everything I wanted in a game. Ok just to make it short - I valued every minute of playing tarkov, enjoyed every raid even if I died, because I had joy playing.. and the irl gun simulation is just a cherry on top. Time playing tarkov for me is never wasted even if I die and loseeverything. Even cheaters cant take this away from me. Because I’m actually happy playing the game not justhappy to get rewards from my monotonous grinding. It wasnt like the usual grind - do this and you get that. Every minute could spawn situations either happy ones or sad ones (getting head eyes). Every goddamn thing I did ingame was rewarded - was it a lucky flank and nice free kit or horrendous firefight with me resulting dead. And about progression which I value the most - this time its experience that I get playing the game i like and I’m actually satisfied I have to go out of my way to find information about everything in game.
So yeah, despite all the things I’m looking after in games, Tarkov gets me despite going against all my requirements.
TL;DR
Tarkov is joyful every minute you play the game not like other games -grindfest / do that and get this. Now keep doing it till the final boss. It’s not about rewards, it’s about playing process.
Whats keeping you in Tarkov?

2024.05.14 22:48 ahawk_one What This Game Is For Me

I'm not here to tell you you should be having fun when you're not. Or to tell you not to offer good faith critiques to make the game better. If Sony's behavior turned you off entirely, I understand.
I'm just here to say what this game is for me.
For me, it’s fun. At it's core, the type of game this is is far too repetitive to be something I play exclusively for months on end. But I don't need it to be that either. It is a very good, very fun, and very unique game.
I came to the party late. I played a lot for a week or two, stopped for a bit when Destiny 2's Into the Light update came out. Played that for a bit. Now I'm back in Helldivers again. Probably will quit again in a week or so. And then I'll be back again later.
For me things that are awe inspiring in the game have less to do with gun balance and more to do with presentation. And that's why I come and go, and why I will continue to come and go as long as I have internet and the servers are up.
This is what this game means to me.
In all the games I've played over the years, none have created the feeling I feel when I drop from pods hearing the music that plays. Many games have created feelings that are similarly powerful, others more powerful. But the specific way this track makes me feel in the context of what we're dropping into is wholly unique to it and something I truly cherish as special no matter how many times I drop.
My genuine feeling of inspiration and pride at the stupid track that plays when we raise the flag is absurd, but it's there. I want to protect the flag. I want the bug waves to come at me and I want to fucking destroy them with airstrikes, machine guns, and grenades, to the tune of this fucking Fallout Vault-tec patriotic garbage. It's fucking awesome, and hilarious.
And the glee of tossing 16 orbitals in one place (all four of us brought 4 each). Might never do it again. Might do it later tonight for funzies. Why not? Lets load up an evac the scientist mission and just carpet bomb the living shit out of it to see what happens and if they can make it through? (I actually might try this...)
The coolness factor of standing on a factory strider as we destroy it. I haven't experienced this directly, but listening to my brother describe how it happened on the first walker he ever saw or fought is something I'll remember for a long time. We've both been playing video games almost every day for 30 odd years, and he said without question that was the single coolest thing he's ever done in a video game. Landing on the giant walker, hitting it with everything, calling in a 500k on top of it and jumping to safety as it explodes.
The hilarity of landing on a tank in my pod, only to be blasted into the stratosphere from the explosion. This happened the other night and we laughed for like 5min solid over it.
The tension of moving through a marsh that has stalkers. The confidence to know we can do it and the feeling when we destroy their nests and no one dies because callouts are on point.
Watching John Diver Blueberry as he kites three bile titans and some chargers and everything else alone while he waits out the drop ship timer because it’s past 40min and we’re all dead and he has nothing but our encouragement coming through slow ass ps5 typing interfaces. And he made it. With the samples too mind you.
Out of ammo primary and secondary ammo, no grenades left or any stims, everything’s on cooldown, I’m running up a snow covered hill kiting a group of chainsaw bots away from my team with nothing but light armor and a big iron that is halfway out of ammo. And I survived. And went on to survive most of the mission with only 1 death. Which I didn't think was possible when we landed because we landed in view of two eyes of sauron towers that were right next to eachother who spammed an endless stream of dropships, for which we simply didn't have enough ammo. But we won. And we extracted. With the samples mind you.
This is what the game is for me.
When it becomes repetitive. When the awe and wonder wears off and it starts to become a procedural algorithim or a farming session... that's when I lose my interest. That's when I move on. And sure, they could make changes that would extend that time before I move on. But they can't prevent it from happening. Because in the end, my time and attention is mine to give and to use. I'm going to do things I want to do, not things I have to do.
But don't worry diver. I'll be back later. In a week, maybe a month. I'll be back. And we'll be there together, diving for Super Earth to take back Hellmire again. For the upteenth time. Because there is no better farmland in the galaxy than farmland that is littered with bug innards and torched by fire tornados constantly, every day, all hours of the day and night. It's really the perfect environment for making Bug-Wine and Roasted Diver Tenderloins.

2024.05.14 22:47 No-Percentage-1910 Hello fellow Helldivers, fighters of tyranny, and spreaders of glorious managed democracy!

This is my first post in any Helldivers community, and I have a lot of ideas stockpiled from my experience playing the game. There's a lot I want to say, and in this post I'll try to cover it as best as I can. From community polls to just community discussion in general, it's clear that Helldivers 2 has some issues with balancing new Warbonds, and the player experience in general, and I'd like to give my input and suggestions to hopefully give a few people some things to chew on.
Balancing: The biggest issue. From my perspective, Helldivers 2 is a horde shooter where you're meant to feel powerful and destroy everything in your path. What the Helldivers 2 balancing team is trying to do right now is make the over powered guns weaker so that all weapons are equally viable, and I get that. What I think should be happening is maybe a little nerfing here and there for the insanely powerful guns, but mostly generous buffing of everything so that you can really feel powerful; this sounds good, but it also comes with some issues. One of those issues is that is would decrease the difficulty of the game, and because there is a maximum difficulty, it could take away from the experience of players who want a challenge. My suggested fix to this is to make the enemies more challenging, not with more health, or more damage, but with things like higher enemy counts and higher chances of calling in a bug breach or drop ship. This way, the guns would be more powerful, but there would also be bigger swarms, longer lasting fights, and more strategy would be needed when approaching patrols.
Another hot topic in the community is the frequency and quality of Warbonds, specifically the new Polar Patriots Warbond. Personally, I haven't bought any of the premium Warbonds, but I can still get the gist of their problems. I think it would be a viable solution if, for the next while, Arrowhead focused not on making more Warbonds, but making the previous ones actually good and fun to use. I know it's kind of strange to make major changes to things that people have bought with real money, and that is a reasonable concern, but think about the possibility of giving the previous Warbonds a makeover to really perfect the feel that they were going for with this. I'm not suggesting they change their identity or the identities of weapons and armour, but things like giving more weapons cool effects, and having a more diverse range of armour levels with passives that are valid to use. As an example for the Polar Patriots armour sets, I think it would be really cool and fitting if they used the Warbond's theme that is already there and made an armor passive that could be extra useful in snowy, cold planets; maybe it would stop sliding on ice, or give an increased climbing height from the shoe spikes, and give a super high stealth modifier during blizzards or something. Passives like this, along with themed Warbonds, would give players a better reason to get them, and encourage the use of different armours and playstyles.
That's all I wanted to say for now, so thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you didn't, here's a few key points:
I salute you all,
Helldiver #14013745

2024.05.14 22:36 StarFishBlueFish HB2342 Deadly Weapons

https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/sessions/session2024/bills/HB2342_.htm
I saw a bunch of viral videos by large local social media accounts today stating that this newly passed bill makes it legal to open carry all deadly weapons, including guns, as long as they are not concealed (open carry)?
Doesn't the statute explcitly exclude firearms from that allowance? Pretty crazy misinformation if so.
Also don't know if it is intentional or not but the bill appears to legalize butterfly and automatic knives in the state for the first time. You seem to explicitly be able to sell, purchase, posess them now. You also appear to be able to carry them, as long as you open carry them unconcealed (unless you are at home, then you can conceal it).
"§134-52 Switchblade knives; prohibitions; penalty. (a) Whoever knowingly [manufactures, sells, transfers, possesses, or transports] ~carries concealed on the person~ in the State any switchblade knife, being any knife having a blade [which] ~that~ opens automatically (1) by hand pressure applied to a button or other device in the handle of the knife, or (2) by operation of inertia, gravity, or both, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
(b) Whoever knowingly possesses or intentionally uses or threatens to use a switchblade knife while engaged in the commission of a [crime] ~separate felony or misdemeanor~ shall be guilty of a class C felony[.]~; provided that a person shall not be prosecuted under this subsection when the separate felony or misdemeanor is an offense otherwise defined by this chapter.~
~(c) A conviction and sentence under subsection (b) shall be in addition to and not in lieu of any conviction and sentence for the separate felony or misdemeanor; provided that the sentence imposed under subsection (b) may run concurrently or consecutively with the sentence for the separate felony or misdemeanor.~
~(d) It shall be a defense to a prosecution under subsection (a) that the person was lawfully present in the person's own home at the time of the offense.~"
SECTION 5. Section 134-53, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:
"[[]§134-53[]] Butterfly knives; prohibitions; penalty. (a) Whoever knowingly [manufactures, sells, transfers, possesses, or transports] ~carries concealed on the person~ in the State any butterfly knife, being a knife having a blade encased in a split handle that manually unfolds with hand or wrist action with the assistance of inertia, gravity or both, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
(b) Whoever knowingly possesses or intentionally uses or threatens to use a butterfly knife while engaged in the commission of a [crime] ~separate felony or misdemeanor~ shall be guilty of a class C felony[.]~; provided that a person shall not be prosecuted under this subsection when the separate felony or misdemeanor is an offense otherwise defined by this chapter.~

2024.05.14 22:34 insignificant_potato Ex lost his mind when I broke up with him, gave away and destroyed a lot of my things and harassed my employees and friends trying to find me for days

Okay this is in Oklahoma and a lot happened but to summarize basically I've been with this man-child for 3 years almost, I ended up breaking it off after work on Monday (mainly) because of all the issues he has but just blatantly refuses to fix. Immediately after having the discussion he flipped out, throwing things across the room and screaming at me to leave. I stayed at a friend's house that night with nothing but my bag and the clothes I had worn to work. The next day I wake up to a phone call from him where he told me not to bother going back to the apartment because he already let his mom go through all of my things. He said he told her I wanted to fight her (never said that) so she's now determined to kick my ass, and that all of her gang-banger friends now have the addresses of all my family and friends to hurt them as well (this man never remembered my phone number, no way in hell he knows anyone's address lmao but still). I have a witness to this conversation. I also was informed by one of my employees that he had come with his mother to my workplace looking for me, apparently he had been swerving through the parking lot and was acting aggressive and intoxicated. We called law enforcement out and my friend and I went back to the apartment to find it completely destroyed, multiple holes in the walls, and a lot of my furniture was torn apart across the floor, as well several paintings and art pieces that held quite a bit of sentimental value to me. I also found that my medication, makeup, some art supplies, and my medical marijuana paraphernalia has all been taken. His cat was standing on the balcony, I don't know how long she had been outside for. He was not home at the time thankfully, and we had cops standing by while I grabbed some of my things and cared for the animals. Several hours later I was at a friend's apartment on the other side of the complex after submitting the Emergency Protective order petition, id parked far down the road just in case he drove by and surprise surprise he did, I remember hearing the familiar sound of his truck before his mom knocked on the door, I was thrown in a closet to hide and dial 911 while my friend stood at the door talking to them, and thankfully he got them to leave before the police arrived. I can't imagine what might have happened if I didn't move my car down the street. I stayed with a different friend that night for my own safety. The next day went by relatively uneventful until later in the night, we got the EPO and I immediately went and made a bunch of copies before returning to my friend's house on the other side of the complex. I had been in contact with his dad who was using the tracker on his phone to keep me updated on his location, and at this point he had returned to his adoptive parents house in Oklahoma City. At around 20:45 on Wednesday we decided to head back to my apartment to take care of the animals and we found the residence occupied by a couple that none of us recognized. We quickly ran back to my friend's place and called 911, Police came out and removed them from the premesis, and they came out with bags and bags of mine and his things. The woman seemed very confused and had a baby with her, she said that my ex had given her all of it, and that I could take any of my belongings. We went through all the bags and I found several small things of mine, she claims that she was told to stay there and watch over the apartment and to pack his things for him, we got him on the phone (through his dad, I have not spoken to him at all since Tuesday morning when he called me) and he told the officers they weren't supposed to be there and that his key was stolen, and he still sounded heavily intoxicated. Finally everyone left and we went inside to find that everything had been pretty well cleaned up, but the vast majority of my belongings were missing. Adding now my PC, monitor and keyboard, a sewing machine and many yards of fabrics and notions, a cake decorating kit, a small TV and fire stick, a sweing kit from my great-great-grandmother, and a diamond necklace my mother had gotten me for my 16th birthday to the list of missing things. My jewelry box was cleaned out, anything that seemed valuable is now gone, his dad swears up and down they're going to get it all back to me but I don't think that's going to happen. We also found a bread knife with a white-powder on one side of it sitting in the living room, we suspect it to be meth or cocaine (more than likely meth, taking his mother's history and his behavior into account) but when I tried to have it tested the officer told me to just throw it out because it would just be a waste of time. That was the last big event, the last few days have been comparatively quiet aside from getting the PO amended so I can leave the apartment, and his dad texting me, begging me to drop the PO (I won't) I really want to press charges, the court Hearing for the protective order is on the 23rd and I want to be prepared for it, and I have a police report that was approved on Sunday that I have no clue what to do with.
TLDR: Crazy ex gets drunk after breakup, harasses and threatens my entire support system, destroys a bunch of my things and gives away all my valuables to his mothers meth-addicted buddies, and now is hiding behind his dad's hoping I'll drop the protective order.
Do I need an attorney? If so how do I get one? I don't have money right now as I'm trying to get a new place to live, do I still have options? I have a paper trail and witnesses to everything, what is the next step I need to take? Can I press charges for things that happened before we broke up (SA/DV??)? His parents have money and I'm afraid they won't make this an easy fight, but this man has spent his entire adult life having everything handed to him, and walking all over everyone around him. I spent 3 years trying to "fix" him and I want to make sure that after this he won't go off and hurt another girl the same way he did me. Any help is appreciated!

When GPS Misguides You: Are Police Sympathetic to Tech Errors?

Ever made a wrong turn because your GPS told you to? You're not alone. Many motorists find themselves in this predicament, pulled over for moving violations, often claiming, "My GPS made me do it". Relying heavily on GPS navigation, either through portable units or smartphone apps like Google Maps or iMaps, is an everyday routine for many. But how reliable are these systems?
Sadly, even highly-rated apps can lead you astray. Remember when iMaps notoriously directed drivers to the wrong locations or even one-way streets? Such mistakes have happened more times than you might imagine. But what happens when these inaccuracies cause you to make an illegal turn? Who bears the blame?
Even when your trusted app fumbles, you, as the motorist, carry the responsibility for the final decision. Sounds unfair, right? Yet, that's how it stands. Yes, police may sympathize with the occasional GPS-induced mishap, but accountability doesn't shift. At the end of the day, it's the driver who's held responsible.
Ever wonder what police officers think of these GPS blunders? One anonymous officer shared, "As drivers, we've all got a myriad of excuses. But the bottom line is, the person behind the wheel is accountable. Remember, it's not the smartphone or GPS that holds the driver's license."
Want to avoid a ticket? It's not about passing the blame but accepting accountability. Believe it or not, officers tend to be more lenient towards drivers who own up to their mistakes rather than blaming their GPS or tracking device. Interesting, isn't it?

How To Prove To Police You Weren't Speeding

Do you realize how commonplace GPS tracking devices are in today's vehicles? More than ever, they're becoming a staple in both company and personal cars. These devices aren't just ornamental; they play a crucial role in improving vehicle theft protection and driver safety. Additionally, they're an attractive bonus for those eyeing an auto insurance discount.
But have you ever thought of using your GPS device to contest a speeding ticket? More and more drivers are doing just that. Why? Because these trackers do more than just provide location data. They record your speed, location, and journey duration - all in real time and with a stunning accuracy that refreshes every single second!
Impressed? There's more. You'd be surprised to learn that these devices may even outperform the traditional radar gun held by a police officer. Calibration issues, interference from highway overpasses, or the officer's hiding spot could all affect the radar gun's accuracy. Meanwhile, your GPS tracker's data remains precise and reliable. Who knew GPS technology could be your unexpected ally in a speeding dispute?

5 Ways To Use GPS Tracking To Fight A Speeding Ticket

Getting a speeding ticket absolutely sucks. But you know what's worse? Getting a ticket when you weren't actually driving over the posted speed limit. Thankfully, GPS tracking can help. In this section, we will discover some innovative ways your tracking device can help fight your corner. Below are 5 ways your GPS system can help with contesting a speeding violation.
  1. Proof of Speed: Your GPS device diligently records your speed at every moment of your journey. This detailed log can provide concrete evidence of your speed at the exact time the alleged violation took place.
  2. Route Verification: Were you on a different road when the incident occurred? Your GPS tracker traces your route with precision. Its data could demonstrate you were elsewhere when the offense allegedly happened.
  3. Time-Stamped Data: All GPS data is time-stamped, making it easy to correlate your location, speed, and the time of the alleged violation. This accurate chronology could prove essential in disputing a ticket.
  4. Calibration Check: In contrast to a police officer's radar gun, which could suffer from calibration issues, your GPS device provides a more accurate and consistent measure of speed. Use this precision to challenge the reliability of the speed detected by the radar gun.
  5. Data Log Persistence: Most GPS car trackers keep a history of their data. This historical log can help to establish a pattern of safe driving, potentially increasing your credibility in the courtroom.
By integrating these strategies, your GPS device can become a powerful tool in your defense against a speeding ticket

2024.05.14 22:27 Ok_Zone_7635 Was Oscar Morales the most badass character in any JP story?

Was Oscar Morales the most badass character in any JP story?
Oscar Morales is a supporting character in the TellTale click-and-point Jurassic Park game.
He is a mercenary sent to Isla Nublar to rescue any InGen staff left behind from the park disaster that takes place after the first film.
As someone who considers Roland Tembo the coolest character in the entire live action Jurassic Park saga, I think Oscar gives him a run for his money.
While Morales might come across as just a dumb Grunt-for-hire, he is actually really formidable and can get himself out of tight situations.
His claim to fame is when he encounters a lone velociraptor in the underground labyrinth that leads to the Geothermal reactor.
While Roland could make quick work of any dinosaur with guns, Oscar took on a velociraptor with only a knife...and won.
I'd also like to point out he actually surprised the pack leader of the raptors and slashed its face, triggering a fear response from the animal.
You read that right. Oscar Morales is the only human to ever frighten a velociraptor.
Even his brutal death doesn't lose him any badass points, simply for the fact he knew he was going to die, but helped the others anyway.
His death is very similiar to Udesky and Howard Kind. His back gets rip to shreds by raptors.
It sucks that his death mirrors that of two of the franchises most pathetic characters.
But with all due respect to Roland, Muldoon, Owen, and Eddie; I think Oscar has y'all beat in the badass department.

2024.05.14 22:27 lawshadowz AH what's the deal with BIPOD's on certain weapons?

To AH these BIPODS have absolutely no function! Have you considered this when designing these deceptive BIPOD's?
Example bipod on the Anti Material Rifle and Heavy Machine Gun
While proned they should pretty much nullify any recoil on the H machine gun. Even in real life a belt fed machine gun significantly reduces recoil by a lot 90% or more making it pretty accurate even at 500m! Just look at the German MG-42 heavy heavy recoil but with a BIPOD all of a sudden its VERY accurate!
No such attribute on H machine gun while proned. Either remove this deceptive BIPOD or make it to have a significant role! And that is reduce recoil sway by A LOT!
On the Anti Material Rifle while proned it should cause ZERO SWAY period this is true in real life and in other FPS games zero SWAY increases accuracy by a lot! Especially when you are a sniper!
Just saying....
These are MODERN games no need for deceptive add ons that do NOTHING maybe 30 years ago sure...If you add BIPODS then please make them work as intended and most of us know a BIPOD has a pretty important role to fullfill = way less recoil/sway for sniper it nullify sway. This is a legitimate observation. Either let them function or remove them.

2024.05.14 22:23 Zesty_ranch1 Warm side is great, but cool side is too cold?

Ok so, I have just gotten the basking temp and warm ambient pretty good. I do need a thermometer to turn off the heat when it’s too hot, because without her under it, it goes upwards of 120 on the basking spot. All temps are measured with a temperature gun for accuracy. The thermometer keeps it perfect, not too hot for her at all, and the warm ambient is between 80 and 85 which is great. The basking spot turns off around 110, but sits closer to 100-105 when she’s there. The problem is, once I hit the middle, it drops to 69. Lowest temp is on her cold corner cave, varies between 66 and 68 depending on where I check it.
She still loves being over there and sleeps there every night, but this morning I woke up and she was black bearding and felt pretty cold to my touch. Not like, “hospital now”, but I definitely wanted to coax her to warmth. Maybe just my worried mom brain? She didn’t seem lethargic and came enthusiastically to food (not her salad, of course… can only get a leaf of 2 in if there’s a bug stuck to it… but that’s a whole other problem). She didn’t move to her basking spot until around 30 minutes after I fed her, even though she still felt pretty cold.
Anyway, sorry for rambling. I love her so much and I’m just worried. Should I get one of those ceramic heating things? Or is it ok because she seems to really enjoy it? Genuinely most of the time she’s over on the cool side just chilling. I want to make sure I’m giving her the best care possible. I know all Beardies are different and I’m sure some like it a little colder, just like some like it a little hotter. But I’m thinking maybe it’s still too cold. Thanks for listening!

Loving it so far only a few days in and it’s a world of a difference, never going back to cartridge or electric! For those wondering I landed on a Merkur 34C as recommended by many people in this sub and I understand why. Only change i think I’ll be making anytime soon is getting a proper lather bowl and obviously blades once I run out of the sampler. It was hard not to fall down the rabbit hole and end up with a $100+ razor but I stuck to my guns and went with a crowd favorite for beginners.

2024.05.14 22:13 Thatsidechara_ter Fort Ko'Var Briefing (Northern Mountains Front)

Fort Ko'Var Briefing (Northern Mountains Front)
[This post will function as the primary info-dump and planning post for the Siege of Fort Ko'Var. Let's get to it!]

Colenel Jethro Arvin looked around the Taronian 8th Regimental Headquarters at Waycross Road, surveying the plethora of attendees both junior and senior. It was a hell of a crowd; he hoped he didn't dissapoint.
First, there was of course his own senior staff, all in physical attendence now that Major Quoke had rejoined them. Also present in-person was Lieutenant Lenore McPherson, Intelligence Officer of the Praetorian 27th, and the Valyrran Major Zero, who arrived with Major Quoke and now stood silently off to the opposite side of the room from the Taronians.
There were also a plethora of attendees tuning in via hololith; Colonel Braithwaite and General Redlina herself plus a number of other Valyrran officers, presumably representing other elements to be allocated to the siege. There was also the lone small figure of a woman in a Minthelian jumpsuit; Arvin recognized her as the young aide who had guided him when he received orders from General Redlina to detain the Minthelian Lieutenant Sophy. It felt so long ago now.
The final hololith attendee, however, Arvin did not recognize: he wore a long white coat adorned with various bits of webbing and equipment over knee-high leather boots, and a simple steel helmet with a gold Aquila on it atop his head. The man introduced himself as Colonel Lilzton, commander of Task Force Liberation, the loyalist PDF remnants to the north of the fort. Arvin hoped he would get to meet him in person some time.
But now, everyone was assembled, and it was time for Colonel Arvin to begin his briefing.
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending this briefing. We have a lot to get through, so I'll begin without delay..."

INTRODUCTION:
Covering an surface area of about 12.5 square kilometers, Fort Ko'Var, previously known as "Saint's Gate", serves as the primary bastion of resistance for the entirety of the northern mountains. It is carved directly out of the rock in many places, and as it's Imperial name suggests, it controls all passage along the north-south mountain road. Both the town of Kan'Shae and the base of operations for Task Force Liberation are nominally cut off to the north of the fort; for these reasons, the position must be captured if we are to secure victory in this region.

THE TERRAIN:
The geography surrounding Fort Ko'Var only makes it's capture more important. To the east and southeast lays an expanse of high peaks, jagged cliffs, and all manner of other hazardous terrain, such that getting a cohesive fighting force over it is all but impossible.
To the east and northeast lies a river which continues uninterrupted to Westbridge Lake. It is believed to have been artificially-made by the fortress's builders to achieve 2 goals: 1) to prevent the bypassing of the fort by any kind of vehicular foe simply by driving around it, and 2) to supply the defenders with a ready source of clean drinking water, as the river ends in a large pool enclosed within the fortress itself.
Thus, strategically-speaking, Fort Ko'Var is a natural chokepoint which provides the only way past these obstacles, both natural and man-made. Tactically-speaking, the ground surrounding the fort is wide open, providing little cover except for a handfull of foothills that could be used as staging grounds and observation posts.

THE ROAD:
The road which makes Fort Ko'Var so vital runs directly through the mountain in a tunnel just to the west of the bulk of the defenses; this tunnel is capped on both ends by reinforced blast doors rated to withstand at least some punishment from anything we have at our disposal, and is furthermore enclosed by 2 of the 3 defensive tiers of the fort.
We can also assume the tunnel is rigged to blow at the defenders' discretion. Should this happen, the only road connection will be through the heart of the fortress itself, as there are connections on either side of the tunnel, winding up and then down an extensive series of switchback roads that would expose any vehicle to near-endless plunging fire from above. Needless to say, simply ignoring the fort and it's occupants is not an option if we wish to use this highway.

THE TIERS:
Fort Ko'Var is comprised of 3 main defensive tiers, each partitioned by 3 heavily-fortified walls. all of these are complete with bunkers, observation towers, and massive defensive hardpoints that make them formidable obstacles for any attacker, but each also has its quirks and weaknesses that might be exploited.
The outer wall is comparable to a hive city's curtain wall, at least in construction if not in sheer thickness. It rises above the 1st, lowest defensive tier on a gentle slope; this tier is largely home to Fort Ko'Var's rank and file barracks, commodities and maintenence facilities.
The inner wall is less a true wall, and more of a permacrete-reinforced cliff that rings around the 2nd Defensive Tier. The only way up without climbing is a handful of personnel entrances and the 2 roadways, one north and one south. This tier houses the primary vehicle and equipment storage facilities, additional support infrastructure, the secondary artillery batteries, the commoner prison facilities, as well several passageways leading to the road tunnel and beyond.
Lastly, the Final Citadel is not a wall at all, but is instead a massive, adamantine-sheathed, armored plateau that sits at the very top of Fort Ko'Var, complete with countless weapons portholes, pillboxes, a partial mote, and a miniature voidshield enveloping it. Inside this last bastion is the fortress's command center, essential supplies storage, the VIP prison facilities, the majority of the fort's munitions storage capacity, and on top of it is positioned a ring of anti-aircraft emplacements as well as Fort Ko'Var's pride and joy: her primary artillery batteries.

THE ARTILLERY:
Aside from the countless other weapons systems protecting the fort, her main method of reaching out and touching her foes with extreme prejudice is, was, and always has been her artillery. These systems come in batteries of 4 weapons each, and every gun is housed in it's own 360-degree turreted bunker.
For air cover, 8 Imperial-era Hydra Flak Batteries still play a key role in protecting the fortress, but these have been further supplemented by 2 batteries of T'au-made SAM launchers. These long-range munitions are deadly to any pilot who strays anywhere near the fort's airspace, and should not be tested lightly. The Hydra batteries, meanwhile, can also be turned towards anti-personnel duties easily enough, as well.
Onto the ground-to-ground weapon systems, the local auxilia garrison will of course deploy light artillery such as mortars, but for precise, in-close bombardments that can pack real punch, Fort Ko'Var relies on it's 5 batteries of Bombast Field Cannons; I'm sure you're all familiar with that platform by now.
But for more long-range needs, Fort Ko'Var relies on its primary armament of 4 batteries of "Earthquaker" Cannons, as the locals call them. These weapons are T'au-modified, extended-range variants of the venerable Earthshaker Cannon, and rebel reports have clocked it's maximum range with a standard powder charge at about 22 kilometers, increasing to 30 when supercharged. They pack the same firepower as an Earthshaker and, from what reports we have, roughly the same accuracy margins, as well.
Put together, all of these weapons give Fort Ko'Var a potent array of long-range fires, with which it can engage both land and air targets with ease. However, there are some hints that at least 1 or 2 of the above-mentioned systems do not have the neccesary ammunition to operate optimally. The SAMs, in particular, most likely do not have a large number of missile reloads; thus, the xenos gunners may be less willing to fire valuable missiles at something they don't perceive as a threat. Pilots, take note.

OTHER INFO:
Based on rebel reports, Fort Ko'Var is normally home to about 20,000 personnel, with 15,000 in garrison and 5,000 patrolling the mountains at any given time. However, based again on the rebel intel we have, this force has a far-larger ratio of Fire Warriors to Auxilia, something like 2 T'au for every 3 Auxilia. From this we can infer that the T'au value this installation just as much as we do, and are invested in defending it.
Unfortunately I can't get much more detailed than that; with the recent retreat of T'au troops all across the north, it could be that Fort Ko'Var is operating on a skeleton crew as manpower is transferred to other sectors, or it could be that it has been heavily reinforced by units retreating there. Therefore, be on your guard and ready to respond to any possible threat, battlesuits, tanks, superheavies, you get the idea.

OTHER DETAILS:
There are a few more things of note that I must make mention of.
First off, back to that water pool. It is located right at the easternmost point of the fort in the 1st Defensive Tier; this might be a tactical weakness in their ability to get fresh water if they were pushed back to the upper tiers, but the estern tip of the Citadel also hangs out past the 2nd Tier, over this pool and extends downward [OOC: think something like the top tier Minas Tirith], enclosing a portion of the water for the final defensive tier's personal usage.
Second, there is the main landing area. While a few smaller landing pads are scattered around the 2nd and 3rd Tiers, Fort Ko'Var's primary landing area is on the northern side of the 1st Tier, both bulging outwards and making a massive indent in the 2nd tier and the Citadel. Originally being designed for Tetrarch Heavy landers, this area is big enough to land a whole squadron of Mantas simultaneously.
Lastly, there is the escape tunnel. As shown by Imperial records, Fort Ko'Var possesses a single passageway buried deep in the mountain, leading to a secret exit somewhere west or south of the fort. However, I am informed that our new-found local allies may hold the answer to it's location, in which case I believe immediate efforts should be made to cut off this last avenure for reinforcement or evacuation.

THE PLAN:
Fort Ko'Var is a stronge defensive position, but not impregnable if approached in the correct manner. Our basic battle plan is simple enough: Task Force Liberation attack from the north, while the Taronian 8th, Praetorian 27th, and elements of the Valyrran 1st attack from the south. We crush the xenos and the traitors between us, and meet in the middle. But that is, of course, more of an outline than an actual plan, and so I'd like to offer my own thoughts on the tactics to be employed.
Fort Ko'Var's 3 defensive Tiers are very different from eachother, and thus will each require a different approach. The 1st Tier has the longest perimeter to coved, and also the least defenses; therefore, we should make our first strike fast and hard, overunning this first obstacle with haste and superior firepower. This has the added benefit of showing the enemy what we are capable of; with the traitor human Auxilia's morale breaking all across Gryllus, we may yet open up further weakpoints by forcing them to accept their inevitable defeat.
The 2nd tier is... somewhat different. Carved from the rocky cliffs themselves, it will not be possible to simply breach it as you would a traditional wall, but this particular facet opens up... another avenue of attack which myself and Major Baxton have been discussing for some time. It is risky, and as of yet we are not completely sure it is pheasible, but I believe we should consider the option of tunneling into the second tier rather assaulting up it.
The Final Citadel, quite frankly, will not be possible to capture quickly, not without a significant commitment of Astartes or other specialist forces. Therefore, unless one of the above is aquired and as much as it pains me to admit it, this final stage, at least, will most likely come to a plain and simple siege. I would recommend attempts be made to negotiate the remaining garrison's surrender and attempt to avoid needlessly wasting Guardsmen lives, but I do not think that this will bear much fruit considering the likelihood of the remaining troops by this stage being predominantly T'au.

"That concludes my briefing on Fort Ko'Var; I hope to see all of you again for our inevitable victory toast in that fortress's command center." Colonel Arvin finished up. "I would also like to give my personal thanks to Colonel Lilzton and TF Liberation, as well Captains Pekala and Vanian's Rebel Companies for providing much of this information."
"Now, with all of that said, I assume you all have questions or comments to make. The floor is now open..."

2024.05.14 22:10 AreUaSoldierOrDancer Thoughts on Boom Guns, Shadow Boi and Glitter Boy

First: Why no Boom gun equipped tanks or giant robots? Always seemed odd to me.
2nd: are Glitter Boy Borgs a thing? Becasue I can definitely see Traix and Free Quebec at least trying that out. Also See the Super heavy borgs from Russia
3rd my main point:
I love Shadow boi https://www.deviantart.com/chuckwalton/art/Rifts-Shadow-Boy-Power-Armor-319549584 fixes all the issues with the Glitter boi in return for a much smaller price tag especially for armour and weapon replacement. The normal glitter boi is great at ONE VERY SPECIFIC THING and that’s it. outside that niche it becomes a huge liability. Not that I don’t like the concept of a literal walking artillery gun and the heroic mystique, thats cool.
However the downsides are huge and I understand that’s intentional for game balance and Roleplay opportunities.
it’s armor and Boom Gun is literally not made anymore (depending on when your playing) outside Free Quebec and Triax (good luck getting any from them unless you join them of course) so your utterly screwed if you suffer a lot of damage to either of the two things that make a glitter boy what it is. Also the Admittedly very tough laser reflective armour doesn’t count for much when fighting most things as there so many alternate weapon types and magic etc.
Then there are the severe limitations of the one and ONLy weapon it packs. not being able to move and having to stabilize. Not having a good speed even when not firing really doesn’t help that. Lack of any secondary weapons is a really bad design oversight like not even a small laser or something like that Is frankly silly. Even real life SPGs usually have a pintle HMG for AA and local defence. Given the usual combat ranges your probably facing in rifts Ruins and overgrowth. your also not getting to use the HUGE range advantage of the boom gun anywhere near often enough to make it a big deal.
The ultimate issue is The glitter boi was designed to fight in large combined arms formations that would have other support units cover those weaknesses. But obviously after the rifts that stopped being a thing For quite a while.
The Shadow Boi or as I call it the PRACTICAL BOI unlike the Glitter Boy it has MUCH more options and versatility outside of being a simple giant walking gun That does one single thing very well and is little more than a giant shiny paperweight if you take out its big gun. frankly in the rifts earth environment this thing works much better. It’s mobile, can fight well at any range that isn’t literally ARTILLERY and in Rifts earth good luck finding a nice open field that lets you exploit the Boom Guns full range.
The only real downside for the shadow boy is that it’s much less tough then the Glitter Boy. But cosidering how much more likely the glitter is to get HIT just standing there in the first place it’s a worthy trade off.

2024.05.14 22:06 marienbad2 Thanks for the help and advice

I just wanted to thank people for their help and advice. The story with the records is kaput but I have an idea for it which works differently and better thanks to the advice I received. The records won't be the focus this time, just a part of it.
So I wrote a different story completely, I had two ideas, wrote about 800 words of opening for each and chose the wrong one - the stupid records idea lol. Shoulda gone with the other idea as I have finished a first draft of it now!
And the gun stuff was well useful, as was how detectives work, although in the end she just went around old school talking to people.
So thank you to anyone who replied to my asinine posts! You have helped me immensely even if it was just to make me aware of what not to do as much as what to do!
