Dear PerthNow Editor, you missed something.
Threw me for millisecond, as I quickly scroll through the non-news headlines. Was he going to be taught how to ride, was it another climate change related dry-spell article? This was a tough one.

2024.04.12 03:53 continentalparsley (🛑 article self promo) I had an article published about The Tortured Poets Department ✹

(Hey guys, sorry if you’ve seen this before - my account is kind of new so having posting problems đŸ« )
But I had an article about TTPD published and I’m just really proud of the writing and am hoping some of you will like it!!
Article is called Get Pensive in Preparation for Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Department
I can’t comment on my posts at the moment, so will pop whole article below in main post!! Thank u for checking it out if you do!!
.
The clock has ticked past midnight and you have awoken, the final clouds of lavender haze dispersing to reveal scarred oak flooring beneath. You lay on a white fainting couch in a wood-panelled room — the circular table to your right is tableclothed by littered scribblings and worn-out books, both academic and poetry. As you stand and look up to the paradisal stained glass ceiling, you realise ‘of course, this is the Tortured Poets Department’. Suddenly, your purple faux-fur jacket and bejewelled phone case feel slightly out of place. Time to make some style upgrades, starting with that coat.
COSY CARDIGANS AND JACKETS To truly embody the energy of a sleepless, heartbroken humanities academic, some cosy layers are absolutely essential. Pull the long sleeves over your hands while you sit by lanternlight at your desk, pen at the ready. For the sustainability-conscious, small-business-loving reader, anti-fast fashion retailer Lisa Says Gah has racks upon racks of cosy cardigans and jackets waiting for the budding poet (who is currently dealing with a breakup).
The timeless Louie Jacket is a blend of fashion and utility — ideal for the Poetry 101 tutor who is running between lecture halls all day — and is offered in the colour Smoke, appropriate for writing poems during your downtime by the log fireplace in the faculty lounge. Alternatively, the bow-printed Lauda Cardi in the colourway Merlot is better suited for the twee poet, who writes in loopy cursive outside as the sun slowly sets, sipping a vintage red all the while.
If the protesting for higher wages has not yet yielded, an affordable option like Cotton On’s Luxe Rib Cardi can curate the same cosy vibe but save some of your coins for the bookstore. With multiple colourways, this cropped number would pair well with a plaid skirt or high-rise trousers for a perfected academia aesthetic.
NOTEBOOKS FOR POEMS AND UNHINGED LETTERS TO YOUR EX
Your notebook is where all of your little throwaway thoughts and your big Earth-shattering ideas will rest — your best lines and your silliest metaphors. This notebook will become your best friend during the impending listening party, as inspiration inevitably arises. And since you two will be spending so much time together, it is worth investing in a notebook reflecting your own style and sensitivities. For the minimalist who creatively thrives with no clutter and only a true blank slate in front of them, the Karst Hard Cover Notebook is waiting for you. A neat and tidy A5 size, this notebook could, at a push, fit into the pocket of your new large cardigan, alongside your favourite pen — ready for whenever the urge to write overtakes you. The equally elegant and totally classic Pocket Notebook from Moleskin has been a staple among renegade writers for years. Otherwise, for lovers of kitsch, options abound — this blue and cream Papier Lined Notebook, for example, features intricately illustrated icons and a green ribbon bookmark inside, so you never lose your place even when you are in the midst of a whirlwind romance.
For anyone who is poor on time, you can save yourself future shopping trips by picking up a notebook set, like this dreamy three-pack with stitched spines and watercolour illustrations on the cover.
AESTHETIC ACADEMIA ACCESSORIES For a holistic experience, don’t just make your world look like one never-ending Tortured Poets Department — the smell of wooden furniture and slightly wilting flowers is also crucial to the experience.
Jo Malone seems to have curated scents specifically with this album in mind, with combinations like Wood Sage & Sea Salt, Peony & Blush Suede, and Pomegranate Noir. Burn these candles as you enter a writing frenzy, the warmth and small wisps of smoke flickering in your periphery.
If you are not a pomegranate fan, this Italian Summer Soy Candle sings with brighter citrus notes, ideal for the poet in residency at a European estate who snacks on oranges that they have just plucked from a nearby tree. For sensitive noses, simply enjoy the warm glow and berry colour without the scent with the Goldie Berry Taper Candles.
Coffee is the obvious choice for consumables, with all the long nights you will spend toiling over your work. The appropriately titled Night Owl Blend from Chamberlain Coffee could quickly become your signature drink. If you prefer a cold beverage, the Cold Brew Mason Jar will look picturesquely balanced next to your armfuls of poetry as you walk back home from the library.
Now to address that bejewelled phone case — you can still make the whole room shimmer, but instead of large gems under club lights, you will be glimmering like sunlight bouncing off shiny marbled walls with this elegant Custom Phone Case. If you need a little bit of colour, this Butterfly Lithograph Phone Case will look at home on the table alongside the notes you have scratched down for future work or in the tall grass as you write among the monarch butterflies. Featuring some masterful artwork on your phone case with the Claude Monet “Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies” Case, which is also sure to be cohesive among the Tortured Poets Department aesthetic — colour is a language and art is a type of poetry.
Finally, for when your poetry collection about your ravaged heart is finally published or if you want to keep track of the books you have read and loved for inspiration along the way, this Personal Library Kit is essential for any employee at The Tortured Poets Department. This nifty kit revives old-fashioned library circulation techniques, so all your precious books, loaned out to students or friends, eventually find their way back to you — even if he never does. Ugh.

2021.10.01 06:38 lupo8437 List of reasons from the past two years that Freo is back on the up and worth your visit again.

EDIT: I am not associated with the council, government groups, business councils etc. Purely a citizen who sees some real positives coming out of Freo.
.
So having read some not-so-amazing reviews of Fremantle of late on this sub I thought I would go out of my way to help people change the minds of some.
Much work has been done to improve Freo from what it has been known to be over some years (derelict, high vacancy rates, crime and loitering, general safety issues) so this post is to highlight the positive changes that have been occurring over the past 2 years and what is still to come.

(Walyalup Koort (Kings Square) Redevelopment ($270 million):
· The FOMO precinct (redeveloped vacant Myer building) is an urban retail environment where Varsity Bar has just opened, a gourmet IGA to follow shortly, Holey Moley, a bowling alley, along with many other shops, restaurants, cafes, bars etc by years end / early next year
· Above the FOMO precinct is the fully-integrated twin campus office space occupied by government agencies (Department of Communities and Department of Transport) bringing approximately 1,700 workers permanently to Fremantle on workdays.
· Walyalup Civic Centre and new home to the City of Fremantle will be completed and open by year's end, as well as the rejuvenation of public spaces that surround the site.

Additional Developments in Fremantle:
· The Woolstores Shopping Centre Redevelopment is set to begin at the end of this year along with an attach Adina Hotel
·Little Lane Apartmentbuilding on Adelaide Street
· Newly approved hotel development at 65 South Terrace Fremantle
· Waders Hotel providing fully refurbished cottage rooms in addition to the award winning Emily Taylor Asian Kitchen and outdoor beer garden
· Old Synagogue – fully redeveloped, derelict site which has transformed into a multi-level, 4 venue location.
· Perth Glory relocating their administration and offices to Fremantle oval and will train at the ground.

Coming Soon:
· The Old Court House – As a part of a massive hotel development happening on the shuttered site.

Security:
· In addition to extra Police, security patrols have been extended to 2.00 am on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with the team focusing on dealing with low-level criminal activity within the City’s car parks and main streets.

Most popular venues:
· Lions and Tigers: Vibrant, Anglo Indian restaurant, bar, and art space in the heart of Fremantle's historic West End
· Tonic & Ginger:South East Asian Fusion – venue at the old Synagogue
· Freo Social: Premier live music venue
·Jungle Bird:Tikki / Caribbean Small Bar and Café
· Republic of Freo: Gin Bar
· Old Faithful: American BBQ and a ridiculous amount of beers on tap
· Nieuw Ruin: Food, Cocktails, Wine Bar
· Angels House:French Bistro
· Short Order Burger Co:Premium Burgers
· Palace Arcade: Old school games, food, cocktails, beers
· Spice Market: Modern Thai
Get on the CAT bus and get down to South Freo and try these new venues:
· Running with Thieves Brewery
· La Cabana:Coastal Mexican Cuisine
· Saroor Restaurant:Modern Indian Street Food
· Madalenas: Seafood Restaurant and Bar

There is so much more that is not even listed that has occurred over the past 2 years. If you get down for a day/night or a weekend, I think people will be pleasantly surprised by what they find.

2020.10.04 13:31 Wetrapordie Deposits and penalties

So this is a super old example, but I just heard about the case of actress Toni Collette getting sued for $800k after she paid a deposit on a high end house and couldn’t complete the purchase. article here . For most of us saving a deposit and putting it down on a house is the biggest financial transaction we will ever make. How common is it for buyers to lose/forfeit deposits during a sale. What steps should people take to protect themselves?
