Extracts to Trader
Keep an eye out for red triangles on your map, as they indicate an extract location. But be cautious, as other players might be hiding there waiting to take your precious loot!

I’ve made yet another warship. This time round, the ship doesn’t even have a static main gun, all of the guns are on hinges. In the clip (where it fights my previous warship, Manis) there wasn’t rcs on the main gun, causing some control issues. That’s been fixed in the blueprint.z
In the front, there are four autocannon salvos, though less good at armor penetration, it’s useful against fighters, and fills a different combat roll than Manis.
Additionally, there is a retractable missile launcher on both sides

Piloting tips: make sure rcs is always on. Ensure you move any landing gear out the way before you activate a gun. Switch to a gun the moment you tap on the connector activate it, or it’ll redock. Only press the activate stage key if you’re within an active subgrid, to avoid self damage. Look at the provided clip closely to see how I use systems.

I've spent several hours throughout the past week researching Gachas and nowhere did I find a single post or comment anywhere that accurately explains everything in the same place, so I'm going to do my best to explain things as best as I can so nobody else will have to research it much either. However, I don't think I know absolutely EVERYTHING about Gachas and might be incorrect on a few points but I'll edit this if anyone can point out where I'm wrong.
Taming: Gachas are tamed passively by dropping items down in front of them, I've heard that you can feed it anything but I haven't tested that myself. When you drop the items, the Gacha will walk towards it (unless it's sitting and it's close enough for it to pick it up) and pick it up, then eat it slowly. According to Dododex it tames better with structures/tools than normal materials. I may have done something wrong but i tried using greenhouse windows in stacks of 10 each (as recommended) to tame them with full effectiveness, but to no avail it always lost effectiveness and still took an incredibly long time to tame. Meanwhile, my brother tamed 4 or 5 just using stone in stacks of 20 with the same effectiveness (like 4%). So in other words, don't use this as a taming guide.
The level of the Gacha doesn't matter as much as it does for most creatures, the most important stat on them is crafting skill, which boosts the production of their crystals (drop rate and the quality of the crystals (normal, primitive, ramshackle, apprentice)). The only reason you might want a high level Gacha is to get a head start on crafting skill or high weight, so you can focus all it's levels into crafting skill and it's still able to hold a significant amount of items at once. From what I've heard, a good base stat of crafting skill on a newly tamed high level Gacha is around 130-135%, but anything beyond that is considered rare.
Crafting Skill: As I already said, it increases the frequency at which crystals drop from the Gacha, I don't know if this means that crystals grow more from eating, or if it means it'll eat the same amount, just more often than normal. All of my Gachas get 1.5% crafting skill per level up, so I'd assume that all tamed Gachas get that amount per level up.
I have seen many people recommend 160% crafting skill for Gachas that you want only the standard crystals that drop materials, and 260% for the leveled crystals (primitive, ramshackle, apprentice). I haven't seen anyone explain why so I can only speculate that beyond 160%, the chances of getting a higher level crystal than the standard ones is just too high to make an efficient material farm, as you would get leveled crystals too often. I have several at 160% and they work very well for materials.
Possible Drops: It would probably be easier to check the wiki for this, but I'll list them anyway. All Gachas get 6 different possible materials they can produce, and of those 6 are 3 common materials, 2 uncommon materials, and 1 rare/very rare materials. When wild they will drop a random one of those 6 resources, but when tamed you can choose whichever one of the 6 resources you want by choosing "Production" in the creature's radial menu (you can also set the production to random, newly tamed Gacha's are set to random by default).

If you're looking to tame a Gacha and want to find one with the materials you want, I'd recommend getting very close to the crystal before you pick it up, and check it's level. If there are several Gachas in an area then it can be hard to find one with the right materials you want just by mindlessly picking up every crystal you find. If you check the level and then open the crystal one at a time, and then see the Gacha of that level nearby, it should be easier to find the one you're looking for. It's also important to pay attention to what materials a single Gacha can drop. The first time I tried to tame a Gacha, I thought I found one that dropped both Organic Polymer and Black Pearls. However, if you look at this list above, you can see that both of those are "Rare Materials" and a single Gacha can only have 1 Rare Material as a possible drop. Depending on the material, Gachas drop a different amount, but I'll get into that in another section.
Gachas can drop leveled crystals that can give a variety of different tools/armor as well as some structures. Leveled crystals only have 3 different rarities; Primitive, Ramshackle, Apprentice. So if you came here wondering how to get Ascendant Gacha Crystals, I'm sorry to inform you that as they may have existed years ago, they don't now. Leveled crystals are easily identified by white/green/blue particles floating upward from them. Gacha crystals can drop almost all stone/metal/fabricated tools and weapons, including torches and canteens but not including harpoon launchers. They also drop chitin/flak/riot armor as well as heavy miner's helmets, and for structures they only drop a few different thing such as dinosaur gates/gateways of wood/stone/metal as well as wooden tree platforms (I do not believe behemoth gates are possible).As far as I have observed, Primitive crystals drop Primitive/Ramshackle equipment. Ramshackle crystals drop Ramshackle/Apprentice/Journeyman equipment. Apprentice crystals drop Journeyman/Mastercraft equipment, and I don't believe Ascendant is possible but maybe it is. There is a good chance that I'm somewhat incorrect about the information above, I tested it several times myself but accidentally deleted the note so I'm mostly relying on memory now.
Snow Owl Pellets: Gachas pick up items near them when wild and tamed, including feces and snow owl pellets. They eat feces as more of a last resort option but they eat snow owl pellets almost immediately after obtaining them, granting them a buff. The buff can be identified by yellow, green, blue and red particles swirling over the Gacha's back. Based on my own observation, the buff lasts until the Gacha produces a crystal, even if the Gacha has nothing to eat in it's inventory, meaning the buff will be "on hold" until it can eat. It's important to note that eating snow owl pellets does produce a crystal at all, like it would it if it ate a material like stone. This means if a Snow Owl is directly in front of a Gacha with the buff and nothing in it's inventory, every time the Snow Owl regurgitates a pellet, the Gacha will pick it up and hold it in it's inventory without eating it, allowing you to farm snow owl pellets while afk for later use. Now I will finally get into what the buff actually does.
The buff from the snow owl pellet forces the Gacha to eat until it produces a crystal (again, as long as it has something consumable in it's inventory), the crystal is also forced to produce the maximum amount of the material it can make, assuming the Gacha is in a good mood (I'll explain mood in the next section). I believe the snow owl pellet buff also makes the Gacha more likely to drop leveled crystals, but it didn't seem to impact my pursuit of materials so I wouldn't worry about it if you just want to farm something like metal for example.
Mood: Gachas have good and bad mood which affect their crystal production. The mood is mainly affected by the gender of other Gachas in the vicinity, but mood can also be lowered by taking damage. The mood is dependent on if there is another Gacha of the same gender withing a certain distance.
For example: If you have a male Gacha and female Gacha next to each other, they'll both be in a good mood. If you have 2 male Gachas next to each other, they'll both be in a bad mood. If you have 8 Gachas in a small area, 7 are female and 1 is male, the females will be in a bad mood and the male will be in a good mood. The mood is dependent on if there is another Gacha of the same gender withing a certain distance.
About the distance, I've seen people give several different numbers but it seems that the actual distance that same-gendered Gachas need to be apart is 14 foundations. Now I'll get into what mood actually does.
Bad mood is caused by being too close to another Gacha of the same gender, or taking damage. It causes the Gacha to not only produce crystals slower, but the yield of each crystal will be significantly less. I'm not sure how it affects leveled crystals but as bad mood as basically the counterpart of a snow owl pellet buff, I'd assume it lowers the drop rate of leveled crystals. They also refuse to pick up items, rending the snow owl pellet farming method I mentioned irrelevant. I don't believe they eat snow owl pellets while in a bad mood, and I'm also pretty sure that the bad mood cancels the buff until they're back in a good mood. I'm not sure how long bad mood lasts from taking damage, but after a Gacha is separated (at least 14 foundations) from all other Gachas of the same gender, it remains in a bad mood for a time unless an opposite-gendered Gacha is close to it. Bad mood is easily identified by purple/black particles on its back, similar to the snow owl pellet buff. It will also refuse to look at you if "Ally Looking" is enabled.
Good mood enables the Gacha to produce crystals normally without issues (as long as it has enough to eat) and utilize the snow owl pellet buff. It also will pick up any item near them. It is identified by no lights on its back, and if "Ally Looking" is enabled, it'll look at you.
Gacha Crystal Material Quantity: A Gacha Crystal will drop a different quantity of materials based on its mood and the snow owl pellet buff. This seems to pertain to the rarity of the material (common, uncommon, rare, very rare). I play on single player settings as I'm always playing alone or with my brother, so I don't know if the quantity is different than default for me.
I recently was out of Red Gems and Crystal, and although Crystal was easy enough to find, I couldn't find Red Gems anywhere except one location. So instead of searching around everywhere I decided to check what materials all my Gachas can produce and found that I have one for both Red Crystalized Sap and Crystal, as well as some other materials I was lacking such as Organic Polymer and Metal. So i threw down a male that produced Red Crystalized Sap and a female that produced Crystal and loaded them up with stuff to eat and all my saved snow owl pellets. I kept getting 30 Red Crystalized Sap with the buff and 60 Crystal, also with the buff. But once the buff ran out i was getting around 14-27 Red Crystalized Sap and double that of Crystal. If you refer to the list in the "Possible Drops" section, you can see that Red Crystalized Sap is Rare, whereas Crystal is Uncommon. I also farmed Organic Polymer and Metal with the Gachas and got 30 from each crystal with the snow owl pellet buff.
Upon further testing I have determined the maximum quantity of materials from a Gacha Crystal based on their rarity: (Keep in mind this is with single player settings, I don't know if Gacha Crystal yield is affected by this or other settings. Also keep in mind I don't actually have a Gacha that drops element dust, which is the only Very Rare Material.)
Common: x120 Uncommon: x60 Rare: x30 Very Rare (Element Dust): x15
I can't confirm this but it appears that a Gacha in a good mood without the snow owl pellet buff would produce between 35-100% of its maximum yield per crystal, and a Gacha in a bad mood would produce below 35%.
Breeding: Gachas do not drop eggs after mating and instead have a gestation timer like mammals do. Once the baby has been born, it will pick up items on the ground, allowing you to give it more food than it can hold which can prevent starvation much easier than you can for most creatures, however a Maewing would render this technique useless. I haven't tested this myself, nor was I able to find any information on it but I don't think they can eat everything an adult can, for food at least. They can eat meat and berries (this I can confirm), and I've seen people use rare mushrooms as they provide more food for the baby than meat or berries, but make sure rare mushrooms are the only item in their inventory, or else they might eat other items first.
You can check what a Gacha can produce ("Production" in the radial menu) even in the baby stage, allowing you to easily determine if raising it to an adult is even worthwhile. If not then you can just.... you know. The possible materials are unaffected by the parents and are entirely random. However, one small disadvantage to breeding Gachas is that Element Dust can only be a possible drop for wild-born Gachas. So if you're trying to get one that drops Element Dust, don't waste your time breeding Gachas and just go tame wild ones. You can use the technique I suggested to find one with Element Dust (Check the level the Gacha that dropped the crystal before you pick it up, open the crystal and if you get Element Dust, tame the Gacha of the same level as the one that dropped the crystal).
When imprinting the Gacha, it will not gain more Crafting Skill. The only way to increase this is through level ups or breeding Gachas with high Crafting Skill, I am unaware if Crafting Skill can be increased through mutations but I personally don't think it would be worth the effort even if it is possible.
What to Feed Gachas: This is undoubtedly my favorite thing about Gachas, as I'm the type of player who does not throw out ANYTHING no matter what game I'm playing, so having a good way to transmute junk that I'm unhealthily attached to into resources I need is amazing.
I have thrown everything from Rockwell Recipes to Slingshots in Gachas and they have not turned down a single thing. Sick of dropping stone tools and cloth armor every time you kill something? A Gacha will eat it. Tired of throwing out all your spoiled meat from feeding troughs? A Gacha will eat it. Have a full fault of hide and now you throw out every bit of it you get? A Gacha will eat it. Maybe you have too many Rex Bone Helmet Skins? Sadly a Gacha won't eat it... just kidding yes they will! These things will eat all your garbage you get after you take a newly raised creature out to kill Rexes for XP. All those skins you get every time you respawn, they'll eat those too. With a Gacha, everything has a purpose now, even those Smithy Blueprints you get from every Blue Supply Drop.
Below I'll list the things Gachas will eat in order (1 being most preferred and 10 being least preferred):
  1. Stone (stacks of 20 until gone)
  2. Structures, Ammo (stacks of 20 until gone), Armor, Weapons, Tools, Blueprints
  3. Food items such as raw meat (not Raw Prime Meat/Raw Prime Fish Meat), Spoiled Meat, berries, seeds, cooked meat, crops, mushrooms, etc. (These will be eaten in stacks of 20 until there is no stack of 20 in the Gacha, even if there are 2 stacks of 17, they will be left untouched until later.)
  4. Other materials such as Chitin, Hide, Thatch, Wood, Fiber, Oil (Oil produced by sea creatures is included), etc. (These will be eaten in stacks of 20 until there is no stack of 20 in the Gacha, even if there are 2 stacks of 17, they will be left untouched until later.)
  5. The least wanted things such as incomplete stacks from tier 3 and 4, Rockwell Recipes, Skins, Feces, possibly more. At this point it will also eat Raw Prime Meat, as it considers it an incomplete stack since it can't eat it in groups of 20.
Keep in mind I have not tested every item, it would take a long time and probably be more trouble than it's worth. I would assume other minerals such as Crystal and Obsidian as well as Metal would be in tier 1 with Stone, but I haven't tested them nor do I want to, besides Stone would be undoubtedly easier. I have found that the easiest way to get stuff to feed Gachas is just to keep all the random junk you'd normally throw out, I already listed them but I'll list them again:
What I Do: I just have a single Gacha set to produce Metal sitting off my deck but right next to it, with 2 Snow Owls leaning over the Gacha but standing on the deck. Everyday when I log off, I take everything out of the Gacha and put it into a Snow Owl so it won't eat it while I can't collect the crystals. So when I log on, I take it out of the Snow Owl and put it back in the Gacha, since the Snow Owls are leaning over the Gacha, they puke the snow owl pellets right in front of it so it just picks it up (it's in a good mood due to being the only Gacha around).
Then I go on my daily routine (gather kibble eggs and get a few cave drops nearby) and come back and there's a couple crystals on the ground giving me free Metal to put straight in the forge. I also filter the meat in the main feeding trough and the Hyaenodon next to it and give the Gacha about 1900 Spoiled Meat. Every time I go out on my Rock Drake or other tame, I dump all the stone tools and arrows and other garbage (my Chitin and Hide vaults are full constantly and now Stone, Thatch, Wood keep hitting the max every other day) into the Gacha as well, there's always stuff left at the end of the day because I get so much absolutely useless junk that the Gacha seems to believe is food. Occasionally on a slow day it might run out, so I just go to an oil drill or gas collector and grab everything and take it straight back to the Gacha. Every day I get at least 900 Metal in the forge (raw, not ingots).
Other Notes:
  1. I've seen a lot of people say that mate boosted Gachas produce crystals more, this is not the case. The only good thing about keeping a male and female Gacha next to each other is it allows you to fit twice as many Gachas in an area without them having bad mood.
  2. When a Gacha is set to produce Organic Polymer the best option is to not open the crystal, and instead put it inside a storage container and only open it once you need Polymer, due to the eventual spoilage of Organic Polymer.
  3. Gachas will pick up Feces if a creature defecates close enough to them, but Feces is only eaten as a last resort option compared to most available items.
  4. If you always have a folder in your inventory with your less used items like a Canteen and Sickle and probably same ammo, then it's best to be aware when you transfer all items straight into the Gacha. Sometimes the "Transfer All" button will take things out of your folder as well, resulting in you accidentally feeding the Gacha your own tools (I have lost over 5 Ascendant Sickles and well over 10 stacks of Shotgun Ammo to this). However this seems to usually only happen when you log on for the first time after opening the game. I should know better at this point but I literally just sacrificed 20 Shotgun Ammo today so I'm gonna start dumping everything out of my folder and into my private vault at the end of every day.
  5. I don't think the item that Gachas eat impacts the crystal growth, except tools/weapons/armors/structures seem to equal a group of 20 items (i.e. one mouthful).
  6. Since snow owl pellets spoil after 14 days (default settings), if you don't have anything in your Gacha for it to eat and you're just using it to collect pellets for later use, I'd recommend taking all of them and dumping them into a Dung Beetle at the end of every day. Dung Beetles increase the spoil time of all feces, including snow owl pellets. If you don't have a Dung Beetle, crop plots work as well, although it will be tedious to place down enough crop plots for a large amount of snow owl pellets as each one has an inventory of only 10 slots.
  7. Again, I'd just like to point out that you cannot get Element Dust as a Production option on a bred Gacha.
  8. If you go out for a long time while your Gacha is making crystals, just keep in mind that they only last 15 minutes (default rates).
Anyway that's all I can think of right now, yet I have the feeling I forgot to mention 47097894703 things. If there's anything anyone can confirm or point out, or anything that I should add then please let me know. I'd like for this Gacha essay to help a few people figure out what to do so they don't have to scour the internet for a week. If people actually care about this post then I'll make a detailed post about an optimal Gacha Crystal farm.

2024.05.13 03:58 Flaky-Imagination-77 Heavy and Superheavy engineering vehicles for lategame along with accessible specialist engineering vehicles for midgame are necessary in this new meta and would make a much more engaging building experience.

With facilities and free artillery shells there are two very important things that need to be added to the game so that 100% of the building playerbase doesn't quit, everyone helping them doesn't burn out, and infantry can actually play the game:
  1. Artillery-resistant or immune t2 infantry bunker pieces and especially spawns
  2. More varied, faster, active (read interesting), and capable methods of getting materials into blueprints
This post will be trying to suggest solutions to problem number 2 with a couple of ideas for midgame, late, and endgame engineering vehicles that can be used to make building less tedious as the game gets later and rebuilding the same positions becomes more and more common.
These vehicles aim to make rebuilding areas marginally faster in terms of time passed (as the primary barrier is teching bunkers) but vastly faster and more convinient in terms of personal time investment in exchange for expodentially increasing amounts of investment into the equipment used and infrastructure required to operate them.
Proposed Midgame engineering vehicles:
ACV: no change
Armored Excavator: A variant of the Falchion and Outlaw for each faction, the tanks maintain the stats of their base chassis and the outlaw maintains its boost function. The turrets for both are replaced with a single forward facing tripod mount where you could put a tremola launcher or rpg for engineering work, or something else for memes. The front has a large dozer blade attached that digs at the 6x the speed of a shovel and can fill t1 and t2 trenches and t1 and t2 bunker husks.
Concrete mixer truck: Its a fuel truck variant that has a single inventory slot that carries 50 concrete. Thats it.
Construction crane: Its a skyhauler that instead of being a crane has ACV function.
The other vehicles are pretty self explanatory unlike this one.
Its used for those big preplanned concrete builds you could just dump concrete into the inventory if you have planned the space for crane rails (which you can demo later) you could save a lot of time. Requires quite a bit of planning in both space and moving specialist resources to use but in large building operations would save a lot of time and be theoretically free if you demo it once you're done.
Proposed Lategame engineering vehicles
Heavy Engineering Vehicle: Its a BT chassis with a 3x speed hammer with the range of foreman stacker facility crane (not skyhauler large rail crane) and a dozer blade in the front. Has 15 inventory slots with 1 dedicated to ammo for a tripod weapon which replaces the front machinegun.
Armored Construction Vehicle: Its a 3x hammer speed ACV hammer on a Silverhand/Bardiche chassis which loses all weapons with 5 inventory slots.
Proposed Endgame Construction Vehicle:
Superheavy Engineering Vehicle: Its a SHT chassis with a slot where you can directly insert pallets which it can use (pretty much you would only put pallets of concrete here) and a 3x speed hammer with the range of a skyhauler large rail crane. I'm a pretty new player and have only made it to 1 BC so far. I've beaten Derelict Distillery several times, including on 1 BC, and I usually don't find it that bad. I have Tesla coil and acrobatipack, but I wanted to go back to get the barrel launcher blueprint, so I played it on 0 BC to make it a little bit easier. Got all the way there with the blueprint extractor, successfully extracted the barrel launcher blueprint, and then I experienced a brutal version of the level I've never seen before. To get the key, I had to ascend one of two parallel vertical ladders, both of which had chutes directly above them, dropping the explosive things onto my head, and with a pair of horizontal shooters at the bottom. I knew this was where I had to go because explorers instinct had kicked in. Things went terribly awry and I died. What in the goddamn F. This structure of the level was SOOO much harder than anything I've seen before. I'm guessing the only way to get up those ladders would have been to perfectly jump back and forth between them, dodging the falling bombs. How frequently do you guys encounter this structure? I really want the barrel launcher, but this was such damn BS that it kinda makes me want to just say "screw it"

I was excited to see that there was something missing, and then saw that it was the Airburst Rocket Launcher, which I had found hit and miss when we first earned it. I suspected that there had been some form of dissident espionage involving modification of the initial blueprints.
Why not give it another crack, I thought to myself, leave the Quasar just this once. Perhaps the issues have been remedied.
I'm glad that I did.
It is a hell of a lot better now, and I don't think that I'll be going back to the Quasar.
The launcher one shots hulks, and everything around them, dropships, tanks, tower cannons, and will happily mop up 10-20 bots from a distance every time.
Where I found it particularly useful was in clearing out the strategem jammers. It essentially acts like an orbital airburst if aimed in the right place.
I implore you to join ARSE and give it a go if you haven't already. If you did when the prototype was released and didn't like it, remember that the "scientists" who designed the initial version haven't been heard from in a while, nor have their families come to think of it.

*The senator's cell phone trilled and he pulled it out of his pocket. He stared at the screen momentarily and answered*
Senator McCoulough: "Yeah? No. Not a good time Brett, I'm about to be in a meeting with someone very important. Yes. I know, they usually do. Yeah, I know. I'll have to call you back. Yeah. Bye." He then hung up the phone and slid it back into his pocket.
Number 5: "Overwatch, you get audio too?"
Number 7/Overwatch: "Confirmed, Five. Looks like dickbreath was talking to 'Brett' so and so. We'll have Cent dig in and find out who the fuck that is..."
Gunny Wilson: "And there they go."
*Four of the armed guards followed Senator McCoulough from behind, while four led the way.*

The audio recording was still live from Senator McCoulough's bug as they made their way to the elevators. Shortly after the doors closed, the signal cut off. Using hand signals, 5 threw up two fingers to 7 in her nest. 7 Nodded. Gator and Gunny saw this on cams and said nothing. When the elevator doors to the 17th floor opens, the audio signal from the bug cut back on...
Command: "I don't think I've made myself abundantly clear. Abort the fucking mission. Lieutenant. 5. That means kill the coms too."
Everyone shook their heads and muttered strings of epithets. Lance yanked out his ear bud and 5 crossed her arms, looking across the street at 6. 6 threw her hands up. Gator then threw his headset on the counter in the van. "FUCK!". 7 Spit out the Grizzly wintergreen tucked in her lip, and muttered, "Shit on a fucking biscuit..."

2024.05.11 04:46 DatRuffBuddi3 Totally Legitimate and Completely Real Patch Notes

I have a family member(uncle) that works at Arrowhead. Just like everyone else I've been absolutely livid about balance lately. I've been telling him to please, please, please buff weapons or to at least let me know if any buffs are coming. After 3 months of pestering he finally gave in and sent me a work in progress draft of patch notes. While the patch notes aren't finalized, I have it on good authority that most, if not all, of these changes are coming in the near future:
General
Primary, Secondary, & Support Weapons
Stratagems
Enemies
Bug Fixes
The skype call with my uncle suddenly ended there. I think we lost connection. But personally I'm not looking forward to these changes. The fact that there wasn't a single mention of transmog is infuriating. If Arrowhead keeps putting out shitty patches like this then Helldivers 2 is gonna be dead within a month.

After a few more hours, I finish the sketches, and Silvra somehow manages to make blueprint quality drawings of them.
“Well, that’s done, now we just need to get these parts made,” Silvra remarks, placing the pencil down. “Let’s go to Eldrin’s place and get these made. I’ll foot the bill. It should be fairly small as these are not massive components, but just fairly intricate. I’ll bring some of the wire so he just has to stretch it out. We’ll have to protect it though, as he won’t have the material to do that.
Silvra and Lena quickly head over to where our outerwear is hanging and start getting ready. Thallion, on the other hand, is a little hesitant, but eventually follows.
Suiting back up to go outside, we quickly get ready with a brim of excitement and hope as we step back out into the frigid weather. After a couple minutes walking, we come to a larger house near the gate that is shooting sparks up into the clear sky through its chimney. We enter and are immediately hit by the intense heat of the forge and smell of sweat and hot iron. Shedding our outer layers, we wait by the counter as a rather muscular, built elf is pounding away at what looks to be a railway spike.
“Be with ya in jus’ a momen’! He barks, as he plunges the spike back into the coals of the forge, and leaning on the blower lever.
“Ter’ w’go. Nao wha’ cannae do fer ya?” He says, as he turns around. As soon as he sees our group he pauses mid turn.
“Sorry ta keep ya waitin master. Tis been a busy dae mendin tools. Liora’s awl was dull an roun’d oer so aye be fixin it now. Jus’ hardenin’ ‘t off and be done in a few. Wel’ome ladies as well ta mine humble abode. An’ who’s the new un? I have nae se’n before?”
Thallion is just about to speak, but Lena steps in. “Good afternoon Eldrin. This here is Ethan, who has travelled a long way to learn about us, and give us some ideas from his area. He has graciously given us a drawing of one of his simple tools and we need some parts made.”
“Yes!” Silvra steps in, picking up what Lena is putting down, “I here have plans for a turning machine which requires the creation of 2 curved pieces of metal, as well as a tube, and a rod.”
“Oh? New plans eh? Fro’ far ‘way. Wel’ let’s tae a look”, He replies, reaching for the rolled up paper that Silvra has been carrying. Laying them out, he scans over them, then looks at me, and scans again.
Turning serious, he looks at Lena and Silvra. “Now, now. I mae soun’ a bi’ odd, bu my masta taugh me one thin well, and tha’ is how ta spotta lie. This, this here is no mere simple tool, nor from this place. An’ Lena, if this can do half o wha’ is on this shee’, we woulda been conquered by em! No, let’s try this again.”
At hearing this, Lena and Silvra wince, and Thallion facepalms.
“Hello E’an, Wel’ome ta me forge. I am Eldrin. You be clear no’ from ‘ere. My guess’s one of the summons tha’ got out when th’tower fell.”
My eyes bug out. The tower fell?!
“I guess ya did ne’er hear bout that, the summoner ‘ower fell down. Tha’ was the large boom few ‘ays ago was. Also means tha you ‘scaped ‘fore i’ fell. Ya got sum brains kid, I give ya tha’.”
He reaches over and clasps my hand in bro grip.
“Oh ho! Srong ‘un ‘ere too! Migh’ ‘ave even brough’ t’ower down ‘imself. May even be a bit orc in ‘im, like me!”
“Anyways, no lies, no half ‘ruths, give the dope.”
I start speaking: “Well, you cut through that pretty quick, and read me like a book. No point lying now. I am a summon, not sure why. I jumped out of a window, and ran away from there, as it sounded too much like plot. I like being here, don’t turn me in! I have many things that could help around here, and I don’t want to be taken to be a ward of the state!
“I can see ‘he passion brewin’ inside ya, bu’ I go’ no’ a wor’ ya said. I gotta translator in ‘he des’ wired through the floor.”
Looking over the desk, I see that the floor is covered in little insulated bumps, and he is barefoot.
“Helps with those s’umblin’ in’o ‘ere so I can calm ‘em down and aler’ ‘he guards ‘bout more los’ ‘venturers. Bu’ is doesna wor’ t’other way.”
Silvra pipes up, “ you nailed it in one Eldrin. And you really made a translation floor and work barefoot so you can talk to any one, just in case someone comes in? How did you even make that?!”
“Yeah I di’. Qui’e simple really, jus’ use wire an’ weave i’o each bump in ‘he floor. Pro’ec’ ‘em from ‘he main pla’e with some leatha, an’ ‘en wire ‘he bumps to the tap, an’ ‘he pla’e t’a body and it works. Did i’ because I scare some of the young’uns with mae accent and build afta se’n a monsta”
“Fascinating! And how did you tune it to translate so well even after such a distance?”
“Tha’ was a job an’ a ‘alf! S’ill ‘ave some por’s not working righ’! All I ‘ad ta do was ‘wist a live and a pla’e wire ‘ogetha and “
“That’s all very well and good.” Lena interjects, “but we need your help. Ethan here made it very clear he does not want to be sucked into the summon job, we want to protect him, he is giving ideas from his world to us. Do you want to help or do you want to claim the bounty on him? Cause if you do, we are going to have some problems right now.”
“Now tha’s more like it! I like some spice! I’ll help. Bounty was ne’er igh enuf for tha’ anyway. An’ ‘e coul’ probly throw me cross the room!” He looks to study the plans again, and sees the use of copper.
“I donna have ‘e coppa, bu I do have ‘e wire pla’es. Ya can borrow em ‘o make the wire. Never ‘ouch ‘e s’uff. Hur’s way too much.”
“Fair enough” Silvra says sighing, “I do have copper, but I hate working with it as well.”
“Res’ o’it is simple, save for the curve chunks. I do have some pure iron ‘o ma’e i’ from, but i’ ill be a bi’ ‘o make it. Complicated shape, especially tha’ circular”
“I’m footing the bill, and you are the best we have. Especially without ordering in and answering a bunch of questions”
“Fair ‘nough. I’ll ge’ ya the pla’e now, and le’y’all know when tis ready.”
“Thank you very much. This piece will be a master work when done, and may even revolutionize how we do everything, and not just because it rotates” Thallion chimes in, with a little glint in his eye, and some other emotion underneath that I cannot place.
Suiting back up, we head back to the schoolhouse and debrief.
“Well that went better than expected.” Lena starts.
“I still don’t like how we had to tell him what Ethan is. Now there are 4 that know what he is, besides him.”
“I know him well, he is a man of his word and work. He’s been working here as the main smith for over 5 years now, he knows how to keep business going, and trained well” Thallion specifies.
“Anyways, sorry Ethan, but I’m tired from translating, we will pick up the device if we need to, but hot potato is tiring”
As they start to talk amongst themselves. I still see the communication barrier as the big thing I need to conquer now. Turning to my box of supplies that Silvra gave me, I look at one of the tremorsenses, and start drawing what it looks like. Eventually, I draw the outside and note the little holes within the front plate. Turning back towards Silvra, I wave her over and point at the tremorsense and my drawing. She catches on and starts drawing the inside.
“I guess you wouldn’t have this as it is pretty useless without being able to read it,” she remarks. “It can take years to get one of these to work for you. But inside it is just 2 pieces of metal, with a piece of quartz in between. I don’t know how it works, but when touched, you can feel the sound around you.”
My eyes light up. Wait. Quartz! They know about quartz and its properties! This is not a tremorsense, this is a piezoelectric microphone!

Now, in the previous post, the one detailing how I was unable to post chapter 12 just yet, there was only one reply, from u/Kovesnek. They asked for an overview of the Reliant, and a small bit detailing how this universe is different from the canon NoP’s timeline. Both will be presented here. If you’d like another post like this, please tell me! This was tons of fun to write. I hope you enjoy.
The Reliant is a Medium Odysseus-class Exploration Cruiser, designed by the Combined Star Systems Federation Engineering Corps, and built in the Highburn Citadel Shipyards. It is 4,632 meters long, and is crewed by over 47,000 CSSF personnel, with a sizable marine contingent for power projection on planets, ships, and stations. Internal security falls to the security division, who uphold the laws and rules set by the CSSF onboard the Reliant.
The Reliant is a long-range exploration cruiser, designed to be fully self-sufficient, with growing beds for food production. On-board fabricators allow the Reliant to make anything from spare parts, to entire small stations and ships. Cyro pods allow the ship to put its crew under for enormous amounts of time, owing to the automated repair and maintenance bots under the control of the ship-board AI. This ship, given enough time, could “restart” the CSSF, through the onboard Federation Database.
The Federation Database is something akin to a huge library, with billions of files, containing the sum of human knowledge. This database is updated regularly through the massive communications relays in every CSSF controlled system. It contains everything from geological surveys of a particular area on some forgotten moon, to the blueprints of the very ship that carries it. If the CSSF were to ever fall, the hundreds of thousands of ships would be flung into the deepest stars, to restart the CSSF. This plan was originally founded after the Devastation War on Old Terra in 2063. This war destroyed much of the collective knowledge of humanity, and to avoid this scenario again, the Federation Database was created.
The Reliant, due to its wide mission profile, and its military use, contains a wide variety of weapons systems. CSSF naval warfare doctrine uses three types of weapons. Ballistic weapons, Energy weapons, and Exotic weapons.
Weapons like Autocannons, Chainguns, Heavy Cannons, Missiles, Railguns, and Accelerator Cannons are all examples of Ballistic weapons.
Energy weapons, like Plasma Guns, Lasers, Pulse Lasers, Fusion Rounds, Electric Shock Weapons, Stun Weapons, and EMPs, are all examples of this weapon type.
Exotic weapons are rarely deployed, due to their danger, and costs.
Exotic Weapons, ubiquitously nicknamed “Black Magic” by Federation Marines across the galaxy, is a term for a weapon that does not rely on physical projectiles like ballistics, or using power like standard energy weapons. They usually combine both of them with a powerful force to make a highly destructive weapon. Exotics are banned from use in atmospheres, due to the inimical effects on biospheres. Only in space combat do exotics come to play. One excellent example of this are anti-matter cannons. Anti-matter cannons are used to fire a shell made from a compound of highly gunfire resistant metals, with an electromagnetic field to keep the antimatter contained within from touching the shell. If the shell hits an enemy ship, the electromagnetic fields turn off, releasing the antimatter, which then consumes the shell, producing an explosion that will punch through the most powerful shields or armored hulls.
The Antimatter shell is but one example of an exotic weapon. Typically, they are more like munitions for what is termed a “real” weapon. However, there is the rare weapon that is a mount instead of a munition. One commonly used exotic weapon is the Anti-Matter Beam. This weapon creates a cylinder of magnetic fields to contain a stream of antimatter directed towards an unfortunate enemy ship. This weapon is used sparingly, because of the incident over Procyon A.
The Reliant mounts the two primary types of weapons, and has the ability to deploy Exotic weapons. They can only be used with approval from High Command, or the entire command staff of the Reliant, in the case that High Command cannot be reached. The choice to deploy these weapons can never fall to just one person.
Thousands of point defence systems litter the hull, with secondary missiles and lasers to intercept fighters and missiles. Some systems are so precise, as to allow them to intercept kinetic rounds. If an enemy’s shots manage to scrape through the wall of flak and counter-fire, a shield stops them, produced by generators that are hidden by meters of thick armor plating. These shields are wrapped around the entire ship, encircling it with a protective shell of invisible particles. Underneath these shields, a 3-meter thick carapace of high-resistance alloys sits, ready to absorb damage, for whatever the galaxy may throw at it. If an enemy pierces all of these defenses, they would find that these same defenses, minus the point-defence and weapon stations, lays between two hulls, the outer hull, and the inner hull. The outer hull is full of weapons stations, anti-boarding defenses, hangers, cargo bays, and systems that are not needed for the ship to survive. The inner hull holds crew quarters, the bridge, the reactor, and other various computer systems. Between the two hulls are the same shielding systems and armor plating. All of these systems are designed to strike a balance between crew survivability and functionality.
For every shot that scrapes the shields and armor, for every round that is stopped by point-defence, ten more are sprayed out of the Reliant’s versatile weapons systems. An Accelerator Cannon, whose shells travel three-fourths of the ship's length before being spat out, poses a significant threat to any enemy, and can even be used to bombard a planet. Smaller secondary railguns mounted on huge turrets comprise a heavy anti-capital option, with autocannons and missile launchers spraying fourth like the angered scions of Zeus, punching holes in armor and shields alike. These weapons are hidden beneath layers of armor and hatches, ready to whip out and dash unsuspecting hostiles on the rocks of human weapons development.
This is supported by an enormous hangar and strike craft deployment system, with the capabilities to launch and recover hundreds of fighters, bombers, interceptors, and whatever else is needed to overcome the enemy. Combat craft are accelerated though light magnetic rail tubes that end near the side of the hull, throwing strike craft out from the Reliant.
Although the Reliant may be formidable in war, that is not its primary purpose. Instead, it is an exploration ship, designed to survey the cosmos, meet new life forms and polities, and expand humanity’s collective knowledge. Whether that is through cataloging the different types of moss that may grow on some long forgotten moon, or initiating first contact protocols with new empires, it does it all, and more. However, to do this, the Reliant’s crew needs to first be able to leave the ship without it landing on every planet, and docking with every ship. The crew need transports. They need shuttles.
Cargo and personnel shuttles launch from normal hangers, mostly found on the bottom and rear sides of the ship, near the primary engine. These are protected by huge blast doors that shut in the case of combat. Huge secondary hangers are used to fabricate and maintain strike craft and secondary craft, while also serving as storage for any craft that may need it.
The Reliant cannot function without a proper power grid. It is powered by one central reactor, an Ishwara-Jyoti class. The name “Ishwara-Jyoti” is derived from the Sanskrit words for “divine light" and “power”. This reactor contains a very small, but highly radioactive and bright star, about eight meters in height and width. It is permanently contained within the confines of the reactor, and no person, human or otherwise, has seen into the core. And no one ever will. The entire inner core is so irradiated that to open it would be to expose your body to enough radiation to kill you almost instantly, about 118,000 rads. The space inside is so tightly controlled, with thousands of safety systems, backup safety systems, backup-backup systems, and so much more. An entire department of personnel is dedicated to maintaining this reactor.
The power is generated by turning the extreme amounts of heat, radiation, and light, into useable energy. A small trickle of mass is constantly fed into the miniature star, to keep it from collapsing. In an emergency, the reactor can be “turned off”, by artificially, and safely, collapsing the miniature star. Reigniting it requires an immense amount of mass and energy, which is usually unfeasible for smaller ships. Secondary fusion reactors serve as a backup, and larger ships will sometimes have more than one central reactor complex. The reactor itself is decently sized, but most of the space taken up by central reactors are huge slabs of protective systems and shields.
The Reliant must also be able to navigate the universe, both in star systems, and between them. The Reliant uses huge fusion engines for traveling in a star system, with millions of maneuvering ports and secondary engines to be able to maneuver in the six degrees of freedom that are available in space.
Now, for getting between stars, taking the “normal” route by slow boating it between star systems would take far too long for any nation to remain together. Instead, the CSSF developed the jump drive. It allows a starship, once it is beyond a star’s gravitational field, to “jump” to another star. The hyperdrive does not push the ship through space, but it merely creates a “bubble”, in which the ship exists. Think of the jump drive as a door, in and out of realspace and Hyperspace. Our dimension, otherwise known as “realspace”, follows the standard laws of physics, and is considered “normal”. Hyperspace is something else, something much older than our realspace. Hyperspace and realspace are directly connected, effecting one another. The huge gravitational fields produced by stars and other stellar phenomena interfere with Hyperspace, creating a “blockage” in Hyperspace, blocking any ships from passing. Hyperspace is a direct reflection of realspace, but it lacks anything other than the “blockages” produced by gravitational fields. Now, why does the CSSF, and other nations, like the [EXPUNGED], the [EXPUNGED], the [EXPUNGED], and even the now long-gone [EXPUNGED] use Hyperspace?
Because, Hyperspace is significantly smaller, allowing for an extremely faster rate of travel compared to standard drives. Because it is a direct reflection of realspace, but extremely dense, ships can traverse the space between stars in mere days or even weeks, depending on the distance. This allows for a functioning galactic polity, unlike one that relies on slow-boating.
Now, Hyperspace is not without its dangers. Hyperspace is a tumultuous dimension, with dozens of different hazards, ranging from intense heat and cold, to the ruined wrecks of failed jumps. Thus, ships that enter Hyperspace tune their shields to defect debris and block radiation and extreme temps.
A failed jump is only possible if the jump drive, and its dozen or so backups fail. The ship is stuck in hyperspace, and will be slowly worn away unless it can reach a gravitational field in time. Even then, the soft exits that a jump drive provides will not happen, meaning that internal compensators will fail in an instant, smashing the ship, or flinging the damaged wreck into pieces. The crew of a ship are unlikely to survive such an event, but so many safeguards have been put into place, that the only chance of an event is if it is sabotaged.
This concludes the basic overview of the Reliant and its technologies. Now, for the changes I made to the NoP timeline to result in the current situation, here’s a little description.
In the canon NoP timeline, Earth was saved by the timely arrival of an Arxur fleet headed by none other than Isif. In this timeline, his fleet was intercepted by an Arxur Dominion fleet, allowing the Extermination fleet to bombard Earth indiscriminately. Meanwhile, the Reliant was on a survey mission of a nearby star system, when it detected the presence of repeating radio signals, potentially indicating the presence of sapient life. After alerting CSSF High Command, they jumped, and within a few days, arrived at the Solar System. The jump went undetected by the Extermination fleet, and the ECM and sensor dispersion protocols managed to keep it that way, despite its size. Only when an incoming squadron of Federation capital ships was detected, did Captain Artemis decide to reveal themselves to the unknown ships.

Devblog 2: Ship Flight is in and More!
The past 2 weeks have been packed with progress. From networking breakthroughs, new graphics workflows, music composition, to gameplay features, Space Junkers is really starting to fill out in terms of tech. So, without further ado, here is this week's devblog update.
Networking
The test server is live and stable! Getting the test server setup was a big jump forward in developing the network model. The networking model that Space Junkers uses has become much more robust, allowing me to create a more secure server-client model, exert fine-tuned control over bandwidth usage, and stream game states and other information to each player individually. Most importantly, I've implemented my own custom client-side interpolation, which brings the required bandwidth down DRAMATICALLY. These changes will allow more players on a server and make it possible to instance content for each player or groups of players. That opens up a huge variety of content that can be implemented in Space Junkers, and I'm not without ideas. While the game is promised to be 95% ship-centric, instanced content will allow players to travel from their ship to other locations, and even interact without other players in a FPS style setting. It also allows for procedural content a la games like Diablo (one of my all time favorite franchises, by the way!) Procedurally generated content has been on the blueprint from day one, but it's still very much in a conceptual state. I'll let your imagination go wild.

Graphics Workflows
Every day I'm gaining confidence in 3D modeling, and Blender and Substance Painter have become the meat and potatoes of my workflow. Substance Painter was a shot in the wallet, but well worth it. It makes creating rusty junk assets and rugged industrial machines and interiors a breeze! Maybe 'breeze' is too gentle a word. But it certainly takes the edge off of manually texturing material properties in Blender or even GIMP. Additional plugins for Blender have made modeling much easier, especially one called Grid Modeler. It allows me to create ‘sketch planes’ on any face on the model and then perform boolean operations or cuts, much like you would do in a modern CAD program like Fusion360. This is good for me because I'm a dirty CAD modeler, and is perfect for the hard surface modeling I'm going to be doing for 99% of Space Junker's assets. You’ll start to see more and more finished assets in the game as I complete them. Maybe ‘complete’ is also too strong a word… In any case, expect lots and lots of rusty metal, peeling paint, and cables, pipes and hoses all over the place!

Music Composition
Reaper! It's the perfect DAW, and it's only $60. With a few choice VSTs and the BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover from Spitfire, I am able to start composing the soundtrack for Space Junkers. I have spent a few days playing with melodies, keys and chords, leitmotifs, and exploring an instrument palette that I think captures the aesthetic of old retro-scifi radio and TV shows. I’ve even composed my first piece! Setting up the DAW also allows me to start working on some of the sound engineering tasks for the game. Nailing down some solid VSTs and synths for sound effects will be an ongoing task, but already some beautiful and exciting sounds are starting to pop out!

Gameplay Features
  • Ship flight is working and has been implemented in an experimental state on the test server! Players are able to spawn into the ship, man the helm, and accelerate and turn their ship in a shared space with other players. This is the beginning of the core PvP/Co-op loop for Space Junkers and filling out the flight and combat system is high on the list of ship related features to be added next.

  • Interactable systems have been implemented, first with the helm and throttle for ships flight, but also extended to many other systems on the ship, like radar and weapons. These systems are still in a conceptual state currently non-functional.
  • Player models, weapons/tools models, and animations have been added in a concept-test state., meaning that some placeholders are in-game just to see how I want to move forward with them.
  • Main menu improvements include an improved UI, quick connection to the new test server, a new logo, a dynamic 3D scene, credits, and a news box.

As you can tell, the scope of development on Space Junkers is expanding and that is mostly due to me setting up workflows for each of the different aspects. Some days I feel like I never get anything done, but then I look back at the past two weeks and realize I’ve gotten a TON done. Thanks for following the development! 2024.05.05 05:02 r-shadrin Unreal 5.4 problem! Server spawns the character and client disconnecting with 'Failed to load package' error. Really need your help!

Hello, guys. That problem killing my days so you are my last hope.
I usually test my multiplayer project by running a local server with bat file with -server parameter and joining same way with -game. And sometimes for the group testing I package the game for my friends to join.
Everything worked fine in 5.3 but in 5.4 I stuck with this problem. PIE and -game launching works fine. It occurs only in packaged game.
I connect to the server and everything is ok but when it spawns a player character the client got immediately disconnected with the "Error 'Failed to load package '''. Exiting." And it happens not only in my project but in all the starter template projects at 5.4. So I recreated this problem in a ThirdPersonTemplate project.
There's some details that I should mention: - I tried to spawn with same logic the "pawn" class and possess it and everything fine. This problem occurs only when server spawns "character" class. - I tried all the different packaging ways by the default tool and project launcher. And Shipping / DebugGame / Development configuration doesn't matter. - My packaging process have no warnings. - The client and server have the same version of a game / content. - I tried reinstalling UE / Visual Studio and clearing the project / engine cache.
