I was recently gifted a ring that I’ve decided to reset. It has a 2.8ct, K, VS1 natural diamond set in a platinum setting.
I was vacationing in India, and I thought why not do it here. Jewelry in general is a big part of the culture, there are many experienced, reputable jewelers, and I’d wanted to add some gemstones (sapphires) to the setting and I could see and pick them out for myself at these stores.
My aunt had a gold necklace that had a broken which she had given one of her trusted jewelers to fix. This was a brand-name place, established in late 1800s, blah blah blah. So she told me to come along, telling me that they are trustworthy and would do a quality job.
Here’s how it went.
We went in, she picked up the fixed necklace, exchanged pleasantries with one of the sales-people (who she had a long-standing relationship with). Then introduced me and I started talking. Showed them the ring, and the guy starts talking.
Him: [examining ring] What kind of stone is this?
Me: it’s a diamond.
Him: how many carats?
Me: uh, it’s 2.8 carats, and K, VS1.
Him: [turns it over in his and, continues to examine] How much was it? 10, 15? (I imagine he was asking in thousands, but I’m not sure)
Me: (mildly shocked but hiding it). I don’t know, it was a gift. (It was given to my mom by my dad, which she gifted to me after my civil wedding ceremony)
Him: [still examining the ring. Then whispemutters to two other sales people nearby] Bring the tester.
At this point I pick up my phone and pretend to be doing something on it. I was a bit taken aback and didn’t know what to do.
Salespeople bring one of those diamond tester things. Three salespeople crowd around the main dude, whos holding the ring. Main dude tests it. And then looks critically at it, not saying anything.
One of the sales people, whispering to main dude: Is it real?
Main dude slightly nods to him.
They continue crowding around him, looking at ring.
At this point I’m just calmly looking around, trying to not be awkward.
Main guy to me: is it certified?
Me: yes.
Him: do you have the certificate?
Me: no, it’s with my mom, but I can get it if you need.
Him: [silent for a while, and then] it should be inscribed on the stone right?
Me: yes I think so.
Him [nods]
At this point the others disperse, and we talk about the new setting I want, etc. I get a reasonable quote but I feel a little taken aback by the whole experience for some reason, so I tell them I’ll let them know, and me and my aunt leave.
After leaving, I don’t know. It felt so off. Like rude? I don’t know. I just remember feeling bad. My aunt could see I was a little quiet and told me that’s just how business is done in India, people are more blunt, and it’s becuase I’ve been away so long that I’m not used to it. But I don’t know. Is this normal?
I just felt kind offended? Or upset?

my mom doesn't like to leave her home anymore and travel however She has 5 free marriot free night awards she wants me to have. Unlike points, it appears she must be there during check for these certificates to be used, thats corporate policy for these specific certificates. And adding a guest to the reservation won't suffice. Apparently she has to be there during check-in.
I can get a decently fake ID made easily and I have her permission to use her CC. Can I just flash these things during check in so I can use her 5 free night certificates ?
My question is not around the ethics of this or how dumb I am to even think about it.
What I want to know is the likeliness of this working?
I am in my mid 30s .... Are IDs thoroughly checked? I would have a CC to match

I wanted help with how to get into technical university of Munich or some university with as good courses in aerospace engineering or computer science my_qualifications are still incomplete as I am still in 11th standard as and a levels board but wanted to know what I should do or achieve for them to accept me. Would This Be Considered Gifted?
Hello all,
I recently underwent some psychological testing for the sake of clarifying some diagnoses and gaining a bit more insight into my personal abilities and issues, etc.
Unfortunately, and I will admit to this now (though my post will show it either way), I am a pretty insecure person, and I’ve carried a lot of self-doubt and low self-esteem issues specifically related to intelligence, pretty much as soon as I can remember (elementary school onward). I was never tested or evaluated for my schools’ gifted programs, as I never performed well academically and had a lot of behavioral issues. This all changed come my junior and senior years of high school, when I finally learned that I had ADHD and probably ASD. After that affirmation and subsequent treatment, I was able to turn everything around and achieve straight A’s until graduation, even leading up to now in college, where I’ve managed to maintain a 4.0 and be accepted into my school’s honors program.
I think I was very hindered up until this point of my life because I felt like a failure. All of my closest friends were gifted students; they were the only people I could relate to on the deepest, most personal level, yet I never had the validation of being “one of them,” so to speak. Perhaps it doesn’t matter. I know it doesn’t matter. I’m doing well now, and that’s all that should be important. That said, I am curious if maybe all of this worry and anxiety and belief that I should have been given more opportunities earlier in my life was valid. At one point in ninth grade, a teacher of mine pulled me aside and told me I shouldn’t be stuck in school when it was clear I exceeded my peers in many ways, and that I could graduate early if I decided to take accelerated classes online. She reached out to my parents and my counselor, but my father (a gifted individual himself) told me she probably just wanted me out of her class for causing trouble, and that it didn’t mean anything. That, along with my fear of losing out on the social aspect of high school, caused me to reject the offer. That said, I still found success by the end of high school, as the English department awarded me and another student a certificate of achievement out of our entire graduating class of about 450 students.
When it comes to the test results above, I do have some skepticism. I feel like the tests I took as part of the WAIS-IV weren’t as in-depth as some people online seem to describe them as. That could just be a false impression on my end, but upon further investigation of the psychologist I visited, I found a lot of negative reviews and controversies regarding her practice, which only fuels my skepticism. Anyway, as is indicated by my results I have ADHD-C, and this has had a noticeable impact on my behavior, memory, and processing speed throughout my life. Of course, for the test, I was asked to cease medication, so I’m also unsure if these results are fully representative of my ability in a more ideal headspace. Another potential impact on my results could be depression, which was also diagnosed by the psychologist, and insomnia.
I apologize for the long-winded post. I am mainly confused because, despite the 114 FSIQ and 122 GAI, which wouldn’t normally be considered gifted, I scored 132 in VCI, which is enough for classification in some schools’ gifted programs. I hope it is fine for me to post these here rather than CognitiveTesting, but I may cross post if necessary. Any and all insight would be appreciated. Thank you all!

Romanza: North Florida Saxophone Quartet

Romanza Festivale presents the North Florida Saxophone Quartet as they perform a variety of familiar music in a live concert in the Courtyard of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, on Sunday, May 14, 2024, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The four saxophonists have each played with various ensembles worldwide, and North Florida music lovers have been delighted that each has made playing in this quartet a priority. They choose music from several genres — from classical to Disney — to create a lively show that audiences always enjoy. While the members of the North Florida Saxophone Quartet certainly focus on the sax, all of them are proficient with other woodwind instruments, such as the flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon.

• Paula Prince performs on the soprano saxophone and graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
• Charles Almeida performs on the alto saxophone. He served in both the U.S. Army military band and the U.S. Air Force military band. In addition, he has played with several well-known big bands such as Harry James and Tommy Dorsey.
• Robbie Zukauskas plays tenor saxophone and played with the U.S. Army Band and the Florida National Guard Band. Robbie studied music at the University of Central Florida.
• Bill Prince plays the baritone saxophone. He's a professor emeritus at the University of North Florida and arranges most of the music for the ensemble. Bill has also performed around the world with famous bands and as a solo artist.

Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs.
Admission: Free.
When: Sunday, May 14, 2024, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, 37 Lovett St. in downtown St. Augustine. The concert happens in the courtyard and attendees are encouraged to bring their portable chairs.
This event is part of the Romanza Festivale of Music and the Arts, an annual festival of two weeks of historical, cultural, and creative events celebrating all things St. Augustine. From May 3 -19, the nation's oldest city will be jam-packed with music and dance concerts, living history events and historical tours, live theater, and art exhibits.

Romanza Festivale presents the North Florida Saxophone Quartet as they perform a variety of familiar music in a live concert in the Courtyard of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, on Sunday, May 14, 2024, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The four saxophonists have each played with various ensembles worldwide, and North Florida music lovers have been delighted that each has made playing in this quartet a priority. They choose music from several genres — from classical to Disney — to create a lively show that audiences always enjoy. While the members of the North Florida Saxophone Quartet certainly focus on the sax, all of them are proficient with other woodwind instruments, such as the flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon.

• Paula Prince performs on the soprano saxophone and graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
• Charles Almeida performs on the alto saxophone. He served in both the U.S. Army military band and the U.S. Air Force military band. In addition, he has played with several well-known big bands such as Harry James and Tommy Dorsey.
• Robbie Zukauskas plays tenor saxophone and played with the U.S. Army Band and the Florida National Guard Band. Robbie studied music at the University of Central Florida.
• Bill Prince plays the baritone saxophone. He's a professor emeritus at the University of North Florida and arranges most of the music for the ensemble. Bill has also performed around the world with famous bands and as a solo artist.

Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs.

Daisies preparing to bridge for the first time. We are holding the ceremony in June. All scouts are coming to ceremony and working on bridging requirements but we know at least two who are not continuing with Brownies.
All the ceremonies I see online include donning the new vests as they cross the bridge, but I feel like our girls who aren’t continuing shouldn’t be excluded in that public way at this age. We could have a certificate and bridging award ready to distribute to all the girls. We were considering having little packages with the girls’ gifts and having the Brownie uniforms in there to not make it quite as big of a deal.
What have troops in similar situations done? Another option would be waiting for uniforms until fall and doing rededication/investiture with returning/new scouts but I think we have a couple active families who would prefer to have the Brownie uniform sooner than later.

lit teacher: 8/10, my favorite teacher ever, really improved my writing so much + def one of the better students in her class. shes also really experienced at writing so im pretty sure the letter was good. minus 2 points bc i haven't read it and also hella people asked her to write one so im not sure how much time she could allocate to writing my letter
math teacher: 7/10, really funny dude and i participated a lot in his class + he knew about my extracurriculars in math and how much i love the subject. also same rec letter he wrote which got me into the math camp so it was probably good???
Interviews
i had interviews for most schools that gave interviews (harvard, yale, princeton, etc). i'm good at talking to adults so most of them went well. only notable bad one was dartmouth where the guy started talking about israel palestine and used it as an example for why my research wasn't significant.

ik i can't really complain about ended up at an ivy but columbia wasn't really a school i'd considered in the past. i kinda just applied for the sake of applying. i was honestly super close to choosing ut austin and i feel a little bit of regret that i didn't.

Several law firms rejected my case, Ellis Porter PLC have suggested waiting for more substantial achievements like leadership roles, increased citations, or significant awards. However, one firm, Green Card Link, offered an 80-85% success rate for my case at a cost of $5,000, with a 50% refund if unsuccessful.
Background:

• Education: I hold two master’s degrees: one in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from a university in Korea, and another in Computer Sciences from a university in the USA.
