Attorney For The Worse

Trump’s lawyers are having another rough one. And the mainstream media could learn a lesson from the legal profession and how it handles accountability for unethical behavior and corruption.

• Lawyers for disgraced former President Donald Trump have a long, sordid, and darkly hilarious history of getting charged with crimes, going to prison, facing disbarment, comparing Trump to a “mob boss,” and warning the country not to re-elect him. This week, the saga of accountability for the former guy’s band of legal misfits continued apace. While 2020 coup lawyer and Trump co-conspirator Jeffrey Clark, was taking the Fifth over and over in his D.C. disbarment hearing yesterday, across the country, another corrupt Trump attorney faced accountability of his own. John Eastman was a key architect not only of the scheme to recruit fake electors, but also of the plan to convince Veep Mike Pence to reject legit Biden electors so the fakes could be slotted in on Jan. 6. Eastman’s professional colleagues in California noticed, and they don’t want him around any more.
  
• As of a judge’s ruling yesterday, Eastman is no longer fit to practice law in the State of California. Unless he wins a longshot appeal, he’ll be officially disbarred by Saturday. It’s worth taking a second to look at Judge Yvette Roland’s ruling, because like so much of what’s become standard from Trumpworld, it’s shocking. Roland wrote that Eastman lied in court documents, that he knew his fake elector and Jan. 6 plan was illegal, and that he repeatedly lied about evidence of voter fraud. She said Eastman’s conduct was worse than that of Nixon lawyer and henchman Donald Segretti in Watergate. At least Segretti eventually acknowledged his crimes. Eastman, the court ruled, can no longer be trusted to practice law with honesty and integrity.
  
• Now, just for fun, let’s draw a comparison with parallel events in the media over the past week. Ronna McDaniel served as the head of the Republican National Committee for much of the Trump years and their messy aftermath. She operated in politics, not the law, but followed the same playbook as Eastman. She trafficked lies about the election, pushed democracy-damaging conspiracy theories, and worked to undermine accountability for crimes (remember when the RNC called Jan. 6 “legitimate political discourse”?). But NBC News executives still thought she was fit to act as a contributor and analyst in election coverage. That NBC’s journalists so quickly rejected McDaniel as a liar unfit at the table of journalism—regardless of party—was heartening. But the fact that their bosses thought McDaniel deserved that seat shows how the mainstream media, eight years into Trump’s assault on democracy, still struggles to recognize what it means to defend its institution. The RNC responded by threatening to limit NBC’s access to this summer’s convention—in what amounts to saying, effectively: “Air our lies or pay the consequences.” It’s a move that should prove to those execs that they arrived at the right decision, eventually.
  
• Eastman, as we noted above, is far from alone. Many—nearly all, in fact—of Trump’s cadre of coup-promoting lawyers have faced accountability in some form. Jeffrey Clark may be on his way to disbarment (he’s also charged with crimes); Rudy Giuliani is charged and can’t practice law; Jenna Ellis, censured and pleaded guilty; Ken Chesebro, guilty; Sidney Powell, guilty and sanctioned.
  

Although it takes some time, the legal profession knows how to deal with fraudulent crackpots. It has demonstrated an ability to defend its institution against the liars and cheats Trump has dispatched in his attack on democracy. It’s well past time the mainstream media outlets responsible for covering 2024 figure it out.

Is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s candidacy a bigger threat to Joe Biden or Donald Trump? No one knows, but everyone’s nervous about it. Dems definitely see the threat RFK represents simply based on his Democratic name ID. Trump has certainly seen the polling showing Kennedy could siphon some of his support with anti-vax quackery and creepy conspiracy theories. We have a long way to go before it’s clear how many state ballots RFK qualifies for, and how effectively other campaigns marginalize him. He chose for his running mate, however, the ultra-wealthy lawyer Nicole Shanahan—a woman who received an unknown sum in a confidential divorce settlement from ex-husband and Google billionaire Sergei Brin, after reportedly seeking $1 billion. It therefore appears highly likely that RFK Jr. will have enough funds to cause weirdo-havoc until the end, if he chooses.
What’s clear is that RFK is a threat to public safety. Forget about polls and swing state margins. Just three months into 2024, measles cases have already surpassed the US total for 2023. The cases are almost entirely among children who haven’t been vaccinated. Measles vaccine rates are falling, thanks to the anti-vax campaigns of RFK and mostly right-wing conspiracy mongers. There’s no way around the fact that the more public attention he gets, the more currency anti-vax thinking receives. Talk to your local public health expert about how safe that is for children.
RFK got a lot of coverage for his whack-job antisemitic statements about Covid. But here’s one not enough people noticed: Kennedy toyed with Nazi-signaling code words as he was seeking attention early in his campaign. Last July, while complaining about his inability to score Secret Service protection, he tweeted two numbers close together that are widely understood as a neo-Nazi dog whistle—14 and 88. He wrote: “Typical turnaround time for pro forma protection requests from presidential candidates is 14-days. After 88-days of no response and after several follow-ups by our campaign, the Biden Administration just denied our request.” But the number 14 and 88 mean a lot to Nazis. Putting them side by side is like Nazi Christmas. Later, RFK Jr. claimed he got the numbers from a security consultant who handled his negotiations with the Secret Service, and didn’t “invent” them. He also said: “What’s ironic about this… is these are people who have been accusing me of being a conspiracy theorist.” Uh… okay, man!
The Kennedys themselves seem to recognize the danger their Bobby Jr. poses to the country, especially via the risk he poses to Biden. Just keep in mind there's a lot more at stake with RFK than third-party horse-race politics.

A Mormon church member who worked for 20 years as a Utah Highway Patrol officer was arrested Wed, Mar. 20 for investigation of human trafficking of a child, forcible sodomy, sexual exploitation of a minor, enticing a minor and dealing in materials harmful to minors.
He has not been formally charged of a crime yet, as far as we're aware. A check in the Utah Xchange court records system earlier today did not bring up any records. We're still trying to get a copy of the police probable cause affidavit.
At the time of his arrest on Wed, Mar 20, the accused was the administrative services director for Wasatch County Sheriff's Office.
He was recently listed as a licensed marriage and family therapist on the website of a Provo-based mental health counseling practice, which described him as follows (we've bolded a bit of text):
"[The accused] is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) and is passionate about treating issues involving marriage and family conflict and distress, marital infidelity and the associated betrayal trauma. He also is adapt at treating sexual addictions including pornography, masturbation and hyper sexuality along with pre and post mission sexual issues including sexual orientation concerns, sexual-religious identity conflicts and the associated emotional issues. [...] He is easy to talk to and confide in."
In a press release, the WCSO said that "The severity and seriousness of the alleged offenses cannot be overstated [...] We understand the Attorney General’s investigation to be ongoing and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to fully cooperate." (source)
The accused was also recently listed as a therapist at Covenant Sex Therapy, whose website says it "caters to the sexual needs of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
According to the accused's LinkedIn profile, he worked for the Utah Highway Patrol from 1988 to 2008.
As of 2004, the accused worked in the Utah Department of Public Safety's criminal intelligence center.
The accused served an LDS mission to Costa Rica from 1984 to 1986, where he was a district leader and zone leader.
He was married in an LDS temple in 1988.
Other former Utah police officers accused of sex crimes they allegedly perpetrated while active in the LDS church:

• Retired police officer in American Fork, Utah; arrested in August 2023 and charged with 11 felony counts related to child sexual exploitation.
• Utah Highway Patrol trooper; alleged rapist of a 13-year-old girl.
• LDS bishop and retired Utah Highway Patrol sergeant; pleaded guilty in 2001 to two third degree felony counts of attempted forcible sexual abuse; pleaded guilty in 2002 to one second degree felony count of sex abuse of a child.

It's unclear when exactly all this started. Let's pick a point. In Arkansas in April 2021, there appears to have been a row in the Arkansas House over "preferred pronouns". Rep. Mary Bentley (R) sponsored a bill which would require public school employees to address students only by the name and sex on their birth certificate. At some point she said:^[1]

"This bill is just a first step to help protect our teachers but when we have students in school now that don't identify as a boy or a girl but as a cat, as a furry, we have issues."

Then on August 25th, 2021, WLWT Cincinnati reported^[2] that Meade Country School district in Kentucky was dealing with high school students acting like and dressing as cats. Then in October, the Public Schools Branch of Prince Edward Island, Canada claimed in a Facebook post^[3][4] that it had "fielded calls, been sent emails and been pointed to numerous social media posts that make broad sweeping assertions regarding students who identify as cats. Many of these assertions claim that schools have or are in the process of having litter boxes placed in schools."
It wasn't true.^[3][4] It seems as if by this time a campaign of incitement had begun on social media trying to use the nebulous non-issue of "furries" at schools as a wedge issue. It might make sense for American conservatives to use this as a "slippery slope" argument in a debate previously about trans issues and gendered pronouns. That it ended up causing hysteria in Canada is testament to the borderless nature of social media and disinformation. Conservative activist Lisa Hansen repeated the litter box claims at a school board meeting in Midland, Michigan in December 2021 (I should say I did find a video on Tiktok from a couple of days earlier.^[8]) VICE News has a nice compilation clip of Republicans attempting to put this issue on the agenda. Needless to say, it's embarrassing.^[7] It was picked up on January 20 the next year by Meshawn Maddock, the co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party and posted on Facebook. The next day, "Libs of TikTok" tweeted the video of Hansen at the school board meeting and the post went viral, reaching nearly 860,000 video views on Twitter.^[4] From then on, looking at Google Trends, the conversation took off.^[5]
Let's just say a lot happened in between, but eventually, Joe Rogan tells Tulsi Gabbard in JRE #1880 that a friend's wife is a school teacher and that "she works at a school that had to install a litter box". He gets quite worked up about it, too. "You've conned the school into putting this fucking litter box ... in a girl's room!" he raved, while pounding the table - "Which is bananas!"^[7] This was October 11th.
By October 26th, however, Joe admitted, while talking to Michael Shermer: "The kitty litter box is a weird one" - "I fed into that" - "We should probably clarify that a little bit" - "I don't think they actually did it" - "It doesn't seem that there's any proof that they put a litter box in there".^[6][7]
By the end of it all, at least 20 conservatives and elected officials made "furry litter box"-claims in 2022^[7] - and Joe Rogan had fallen for the misinformation, too, even somehow claiming personal knowledge from a friend's wife that it really happened, then backtracking two weeks later.^[7]
So, you might ask: "Will there ever be accountability for all the nutcases who spread these bullshit lies?" No. Of course not. Not ever. See you on the next one.

Eight other felony charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
The accused is the owner of "an international charity organization that provides educational support for children in Cambodia and the Philippines," according to charging documents.
Prosecutors said his work in the charity would "bring him into contact with children particularly susceptible to sexual abuse."
Long story short, he was caught in possession of child sexual abuse material, or CSAM. It's what used to be more commonly called "child pornography."

The Heirs (u/life-finds-a-way)
Gritty, thought-provoking, modern, social commentary with a twist. Heirs is none of these, but that's why you watch it. With characters you love, characters you hate, characters you love to hate, follow a group of teenagers portrayed by people in their twenties as they navigate the totally relatable struggles of being rich. You want drama for the sake of drama? Beautiful coats? Tears for almost no reason? An American storyline that doesn't make sense? Family secrets? Frenemies you expected and didn't expect? Absolutely silly premises and situations? Over the top? Heirs has it all. Love is the moment.

Bloodhounds
Does bromance, blood, and six-packs sound like your jam? Then Bloodhounds is the series for you. An action-packed ride from start to finish, with some solid fight sequences, and arguably the best chemistry between two leads I’ve seen all year. Kim Geon Woo (Woo Do Hwan) and Hong Woo Jin (Lee Sang Yi) are two amateur boxers whose careers are put on hold due to COVID-19. When Geon Woo’s mother gets tricked into a shady loan, the boys end up entangled in the ambitious plans of Smile Capital. Despite the issues in the production that left audiences divided on the latter few episodes, Bloodhounds delivers a punchy little series.
Duty After School
The sci-fi alien invasion genre series Duty After School takes audiences on an emotional, often uncomfortable journey, as young high school students are pressed into military service against an alien enemy. The series touches on some heavy topics as it explores the traumatic toll conflict has on youth and those who are forced to make decisions when it comes to life-and-death situations. Duty After School follows the beats of traditional war-themed tropes from call to action, through training, and into active conflict. The series also explores some of the more standard invasion, and post-apocalyptic plotlines throughout the narrative. It has a lot going for it in terms of the young cast, if some of the characters and their actions were telegraphed early on and their functions standard in the genre, but as an ensemble they worked well. The ending of the series was controversial for viewers, and the topic of much debate, but don’t let the rumours deter you from watching this series it is worth the time; although I would maybe give that post-credit scene a miss.
Our Dating Sim
2023 was a record year for the boy's love genre with the most productions to date, and among the varied series, Our Dating Sim was a standout. A small indie production, the series follows Lee Wan (Lee Jong Hyuk) who has a longtime crush on his childhood friend Shin Gi Tae (Lee Seung Gyu). After confessing his feelings at graduation, Wan runs away ghosting Gi Tae until he unknowingly applies to work at the same company as his unrequited love. Despite having a runtime of just under two hours, this little web series manages to give you everything you want in a heart-fluttering romance. From the outstanding chemistry between the leads to sweet heartfelt moments that make you want to rewatch again and again. .
Night Has Come
The Backrooms meets Battle Royale, in this delightfully gory little romp. Night Has Come centers on a high school class, forced into a game of ‘mafia’ with real-life consequences. As the students try to survive the game, they realize there is a much bigger mystery to unravel. The series leans into traditional horror tropes while relying on some very creative cinematography. The practical effects, lo-fi visual aesthetic, and claustrophobic feel give the series an unsettling atmospheric feeling throughout. There are some standout performances amongst the young cast, as they tackled some of the classic horror archetypes. While the ending was, like so many horror series, hotly contested, it’s well worth the watch to see if you can figure out who, who’s who before the game ends.
The Eighth Sense
If you only watch one BL (boys love) series this year, make it The Eighth Sense. This short, joint production was a stand-out for the year. The story is a simple one; two young men coming to terms with not only themselves but also exploring each other in this college-age drama. The Eighth Sense plays on the viewer's perceptions of reality, oftentimes leaving the audience wondering if what they are watching is reality or the perceptions and desires of the viewer. While the series touches on some heavy topics like mental health, and depression, as well as acceptance and societal perceptions, they steer clear of the more problematic representations of LGBTQ+ individuals that appear in other dramas. Lim Ji Sub and Oh Jun Taek have a believable chemistry and comfortability with each other, along with the accompanying soundtrack headlined by the indie Korean band Wetter, The Eighth Sense should be on everyone's must-watch list of 2023.

Behind Your Touch
Bong Ye Bun (Han Ji Min) is a veterinarian in the small town of Mujin, who acquires psychic powers after a cosmic accident one night. The catch is that these powers are activated when she... touches the butts of people or animals. Moon Jang Yeol (Lee Min Ki) is a detective from Seoul who is essentially paying his penance in Mujin. When he realizes that Ye Bun possesses these powers, the pair become an unlikely crime fighting duo. The first half of this drama is a quirky, small town comedy, complete with hilarious parodies of other dramas, but as it progresses, it cleverly transitions into a darker crime thriller. The mandatory cast of unique locals includes Ye Bun's best friend, Bae Ok Hee (Joo Min Kyung), and the two share a natural comedic chemistry that complements the perpetually bickering relationship between Ye Bun and Jang Yeol, to perfection.
The Good Bad Mother
The relationship between single mother and pig farmer, Young Soon (Ra Mi Ran) and her son, Kang Ho (Lee Do Hyun), who is a lawyer, has always been a difficult and problematic one. However, she is offered a chance at redemption when a tragic incident leaves Kang Ho as a seven-year-old in an adult body who is also in need of physical rehabilitation. Another important figure in Kang Ho's journey back to his former self is his childhood friend, Mi Joo (Ahn Eun Jin). The performances by these three leads are simply outstanding, and the drama takes the viewer on a roller coaster ride of painful, emotionally searing moments and memories, leavened with some lighter, humorous touches.

Queen of Masks
A women-centric thriller-makjang melodrama that unflinchingly examines some tough topics such as the trauma of sexual assault and hardships of overcoming a drug addiction, this is a drama that tautly wove together the story of four women as they live in the present while confronting ghosts from their past. Shifting alliances and friendships anchor this story that explores the many aspects of womanhood in a drama that is as thrilling as it is emotional. It has many familiar makjang elements (chaebols, politics, murder mystery, sexual assault, etc.) but each of these elements were used with purpose and meaning instead of shock factor.
In a kdramaland full of ‘good’ protagonists and ‘evil’ antagonists, this drama stands out for its flawed characters on journeys of recovery and redemption. A resonant cry against the idea that a person can be defined and categorized by a few keywords, the drama vividly captures how complicated humans can be. A true melodrama that resolutely told its story without frills and digressions, this drama provides an intense emotional ‘workout’.
Strong content warning for sexual assault, especially dialogue/plot points that portray victim blaming, and drug use.
Lies Hidden in My Garden
A masterclass in kdrama production that blended mesmerizing cinematography with impeccable sound mixing that showcased strong acting performances, this slow burn thriller may offer little in terms of groundbreaking twists but plenty in terms of sheer artistry. This is a drama that is truly a feast for the eyes and ears as scenes unfold with deliberateness that invites viewers to pause and admire the framing and sound of each scene.
Strongly recommended for those that love to pay attention to the cinematography and sound mixing of dramas, and those that are more hesitant about the thriller genre as its short length and makes it an excellent beginner watch. I personally champion the idea that everyone should watch at least the first episode just to see how gorgeously a kdrama can be made.
Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938
A rare case where the second season of a drama surpasses the first season by focusing on the elements that work (bromance, friendship) instead of the elements that didn't quite work (complicated fantasy world building, lackluster romance). It did such a great job incorporating the time travel and fantasy aspects into the historical era of Japanese occupation, fully capturing the best of emotions and zeitgeist without overstepping the bounds of historical accuracy. It fantasizes history while respecting the ideologies and important aspects of the realities of those historical times. I feel like I can't rave enough about this particular aspect of the drama and I wish someone had told me this earlier because I'd have been more likely to watch if I knew it did this part so well.
An enjoyable action-packed fantasy with great bromances and friendships, one of the stand out dramas of the year. The best part? There is no need to watch the first season as 1938 functions well as a standalone drama with the beginning of the first episode having enough of a recap to catch viewers up on the important bits from season 1. And let’s be honest, a little more Lee Dong Wook, Kim Bum, and Kim So Yeon dressed up to the nines on one’s screen never hurts.
Half Lies (2023 KBS Drama Special)
A lovely multigenerational family story led by two adorable little girls with the cutest friendship ever, this drama is absolutely heart-warming. Join these two little girls on their adventure while they learn a little bit more about the world of adults and lies while having your heart stolen by one of the most awesome grandfather characters in kdramaland.
If you are new to drama specials, this is a great one to get started with as it shows how beautiful and powerful storytelling can be while highlighting some very talented child actresses. If you are a seasoned drama special expert, don’t miss this one for how adorable it is.

Mask Girl
This is the story about Kim Mi Mo who is a normal office girl during the day and at night she has this new internet persona who wears a mask due to her inferiority complex. This is a dark drama that has very suspenseful twist and turns but that keeps you interested in knowing what will happen next. I thought it was a simple story about Korean beauty standards and it is, but in a darker way which makes it very interesting. Acting is also amazing! So if you like mystery and dark comedy that's the right choice.
Moving
It looks like a Marvel movie where regular people have extraordinary powers trying to live normal lives and protecting each other and the ones they love but it is better than that specially with that cast! It is also based on a webtoon and they kept faithful to the original story since the original writer was involved in this project. At first, I thought it was going to be something like one of those typical hero movies but I am glad I gave it a try. The cast is excellent, very emotional at times and also funny! Kim Bong Seok is the cutest of them all and the writer didn't write a linear timeline which made me wonder about their stories and struggles. It is a different approach to super hero stories and I am looking forward to watch season 2!
Revenant
Kim Tae Ri and Oh Jung Se are amazing actors plus critically acclaimed Kim Eun Hee are the reason I had to watch this drama about this girl, Ku Sang Young who is possessed by a demon and Yeom Hae Sang who can see the demon and maybe the only one who can help her. It is based on korean culture, folk religion and shamanism. The suspense and how the story unfolds and finding out people's secrets and motives is what kept me watching every week! This is a must see if you enjoy this type of drama and even if you don't.
Numbers
When I read the synopsis it looked similar to the American TV series Suits but in an accountant firm, I was wrong, they did a really good job writing this workplace drama. I love Choi Min Soo and his acting is amazing. Since he hasn't been in too many dramas, I was pretty sure it was going to be worth watching just to see his performance and I was very pleased. Choi Jin Hyuk and Kim Myung Soo did an amazing job trying to uncover all the secrets of the firm. There is some really good bromance in this drama and the twists were also very good.

King the Land
A sweet classic romcom with all the tropes that one would expect in a romcom. The main leads have great chemistry from the get go. The girl friendship has been portrayed very nicely. It’s the kind of no brainer drama you’d watch when you don’t want to use a lot of your brain, or something you’d watch just to relax. There’s no thrill or mystery as such, so its not for you if you’re looking for a mystery in this drama. Would totally recommend for all the cliches and tropes, the chemistry, the friendships & most importantly the eye candy.
Call it Love
A melodramatic romance focusing the lives of two lonely people. It starts of as a revenge drama, but as and how you start watching it you’ll feel like you’re falling in love with these two broken people who are yet to find someone who’ll cure this loneliness for each other. Both the leads have great chemistry, the relationship is portrayed so realistically and the plot is also well written. If you’re looking for a slow, romantic drama then this one is perfect for you.

My Lovely Boxer
Love sports dramas with a heavy dose of match fixing? Need some romance sprinkled on top of that as well? If so, then My Lovely Boxer is just the show for you. With a slow start, the show slowly started to pick up momentum towards its third and fourth week of airing and, from there, quickly became one of the best sports dramas I have ever watched. From the character development of our morally gray sports agent to our naïve boxer, we see a relationship that grows into something incredibly special. From enemies to acquaintances to friends to potentially lovers, our main leads become better and stronger together as they face their adversaries sometimes to even the point of death. Out of all of the shows that I have watched this year, My Lovely Boxer was definitely not one that I expected to become one of my favorites due to its quick paced writing and fulfilling character arcs. And with only 12 episodes to do it, you end up with a story that is tightly-knit and engaging from start to finish.
All in all, My Lovely Boxer is a show that deserves all of the love that it got and probably even more so go check it out if you’re in need of a drama to fulfill a 2024 KDC.
The Forbidden Marriage
Are you a lover of sageuks? Do you also happen to love rom-coms with all its beloved tropes? If so, then The Forbidden Marriage is just the one for you. A show that started off with an interesting premise and ended up becoming one of the most memorable shows of 2023 for me. Park Ju Hyun and Kim Young Dae absolutely sold their characters, and they worked well together as a couple. And because the show is only 12 episodes long, you end up getting a well-made story that not only builds itself around the characters and their actions but also one that is quick paced. Backdropped by wonderful OSTs and beautiful cinematography, the show is incredibly comforting to watch and one to put up whenever you need quick binge.
All in all, The Forbidden Marriage is a show that not only has everything you could ever want in a saguek rom-com but also gives you even more than you bargained for in a good way.
Unlock My Boss
In need of a quick paced action drama with a hint of thriller? Want a pinch of romance in there as well? Then, Unlock My Boss is the show for you. With an incredibly unique premise and a relatively well-known cast, it should’ve come as no surprise that the show was going to be good. And boy was it good. I mean this show had everything you could’ve wished for in a quirky action drama. From the early misunderstandings to the well-developed character arcs that resulted in a team that worked like a well-oiled machine, I was hooked on our character’s stories and how they would grow into characters that knew how to depend on one another. And at only 12 episodes, you get all of that without any unnecessary fluff or noble idiocies that tend to derail a 16 episode show. If that isn’t enough for you, then this OST should definitely get you hyped as it’s not only one of the best OSTs I have ever heard in a show but also used to perfection throughout the entirety of the show.
All in all, Unlock My Boss is an underrated show that deserves all the love it got even though it got lost amongst all of the other greats of 2023 due to it airing towards the tailend of 2022 and finishing in early 2023.

Crash Course In Romance
It’s not often we encounter a drama about cram schools, something that has been part of my life growing up. Watching the Pride Academy community tackle the South Korean education system through different lenses using parental connections, socioeconomic status, or true grit, the stress that comes with academics was highlighted and made me feel heard. Contrary to most other dramas, here we feel the appreciation between teachers/tutors and students, especially when they need it the most. Of course, the universal language of food was always there to heal us at the end of the day. Crash Course in Romance examines what it really means to confront our past and not let our insecurities weigh us down.
Choi Chi-Yeol’s main relationship with food is something that many of us may relate to from time to time. Seeing him finally find strength and healing through something as mundane as side dishes captures the idea that love has profound meaning and runs deeper than what is shown on the surface. We also notice the never-ending support mothers have for their children in various ways. Their willingness to risk and sacrifice their lives for the success of who they hold close to their heart is an understatement. Similarly, witnessing those close around Jae-woo despite him having a disorder and those around Chi-Yeol in the main mystery protect them with all their hearts show all the different ways we express our affection for others. Ultimately, we are affected by those who we cherish around us - a life lesson we should be reminded of once in a while.
The Secret Romantic Guesthouse
What a delight! Secret Romantic Guesthouse is a light-hearted sageuk that strays from the intense political conflicts of the palace as portrayed in normal historical dramas. The chemistry (and bromance) between the four main cast members was so fun to watch, all filled with their own funny moments. As always, Shin Ye-eun was just as cute as ever on screen! Through Dan-O, she demonstrated what it meant to be an independent and strong woman who holds family close to her heart. This was also my first time watching a work by Ryeoun. He was super charismatic as Kang San and showed what it meant to protect himself and his friends.
Considering everything, I’ll have to say that Shi-Yeol’s story portrayed by Kang Hoon was the most engaging part of this drama. As his story unfolded, I saw myself sympathizing with his character and wanting more. Although I had my suspicions about the main mystery, I was still caught off guard at the reveals regardless, showing how much I enjoyed watching this drama. I would recommend Secret Romantic Guesthouse as the sageuk gateway drama for those who may not be too intrigued by historical dramas but want to give them a try without too much of the jargon.
Dr. Romantic Season 3
The third installment to the already beloved series continued to deliver and exceed expectations! We welcomed the return of our Doldam staff (especially Kim Sabu, the selfless man who ties everything together) after three years. Watching them all together on screen again for the first time in a while made me feel like I was catching up with old friends.
This season brought us more intense action both internally and externally. The introduction of new residents portrayed by rookie actors Lee Sin-Young and Lee Hong-Nae showed their outlasting potential. From the politicians and businessmen behind the scenes to the nurses, surgeons, and paramedics on the front lines, we have known that there are many different types of people who make up the medical field industry. Tying everyone together in one place and we can see there was amazing chemistry between the cast. Dr. Romantic 3 reinforces the idea conveyed by its title - the romanticism behind our idealist beliefs in saving lives at any cost.
Ahn Hyo-Seop hit it out of the park with Woo-jin’s character. We see how loyal he is to his philosophy and how he learns to improve himself as both a person and surgeon in the face of adversity with perseverance on a greater scale. However, I did wish that Eun-jae’s character was utilized more compared to her portrayal in the previous installment. Yoo Yeon-seok, our ML from the first installment, returned for longer than I anticipated which was such a delight. Not to mention, they all contributed their vocals to an already amazing OST with “Thank You for the Memories” which is sung with more cast members. My personal favorite is “Beautiful Day” by Doyoung, though.

Love To Hate You
A fun and bingeable drama featuring the star of our very first AMA, Yoo Teo! As with any enemies to lovers, it starts out with a lot of hilarious misunderstandings that brings both of them close together until, inevitably, sparks fly. It's fast paced with only 10 episodes, and trust me that goes fast because you would want to keep pressing the 'Next episode' button. Watch this for a badass female lead that can hold her own and literally kick ass (including the male lead's) as well as for the great chemistry between both actors.
Twinkling Watermelon
A youthful drama surrounding music and the making of a band set in the most unsual circumstances. While I typically dislike mystery mixed with slice of life, the mystery in this drama blended well with the story and didn't feel like a random addition. You still get all the fun youth drama vibes and even see some KSL (Korean Sign Language) in action. While it was meant to be a heartwarming drama, there were all the elements of teenage angst and confusion which made it feel more real. At each turn, there was something new to anticipate which really kept me interested till the very end - and I watched this while airing! Overall, highly recommend for the cute couples, good OST and great acting.

A Time Called You: MDL
Han Jun Hee (Jeon Yeo Been) is struggling in the aftermath of her boyfriend's mysterious disappearance (and presumed death) a year ago. She misses him greatly and she can't quite believe that he is dead. Somehow, she manages to travel back in time to 1998 and into the body of a high school Kwon Min Ju. I won't go into too many more of the details for the watchers that were like me and went into this without much background.
All of the fun twists kept me guessing and I kept wondering "how in the world are they going to make this all come together?" But it really worked, surely because the original Taiwanese drama, Someday or One Day set the stage. However, I never watched the original, so I thoroughly enjoyed the high production values, as well as Jeon Yeo Been's acting in the dual roles she portrayed. She did an excellent job, managing to develop two distinct and different characters. The twelve episodes that were 60 minutes or so a piece also helped the drama to feel well paced without much filler, though in the first third there were a couple of episodes that dragged.
One highlight of this drama was Han Jun Hee's grief over her deceased boyfriend and Koo Yeon Jun. Her loss felt palpable and her grief and confusion came across as very realistic.
If you enjoy time travel plotlines as well as dramas that take place in the recent past, this drama might be the one for you. Though I didn't find the romance to be a big highlight of the drama, by the end, I was rooting for the main couple, so romance addicts will find something to enjoy here as well. This might also be best for those who have not yet watched the original Taiwanese drama, as A Time Called You holds the viewer's attention primarily with its plot and if you already know the plot, I can imagine it would not be as intriguing.

Oasis
Oasis is a classic Kdrama with the kdrama feel. It did really well in Korea due to the unique story telling and historical context. It explores the relationship between three friends set amid the backdrop of political tensions of the time including communism, the KIA and university student discontent in the 1980’s-90’s. You get to hear a lot about modern Seoul being built and expanded, so if you are interested in Korea as a country in general it’s a great watch. You start in a small town with the three friends in highschool and follow them through their adult lives as they each go their own ways, taking their own unique paths in the rapidly changing landscape in Korea at the time.
It has a fairly long introduction where it takes a few episodes to set the stage for the rest of the drama, and manages to meld the themes of espionage, political upheaval, betrayal, friendship and love in an epic way. The betrayal arcs are done particularly well and the emotional payoff is well done. The story of the main lead is a tragedy and a romance and is the main driving force of the show – he lives an unfair life and manages to take what he has and forge his own path filled with friends and achievements. He is the main character you become invested in and really pulls you through the story of the rest of the show. The romance is bittersweet and again told is a tragic way making their scenes really moving. It gets a bit makjang in some places but never so much it takes away from the story and between the different themes of the show there is always something interesting going on.
If you like Korea, history, tragedies and romance this drama is a must watch!
The Eighth Sense
While there were lots of hot contenders this year, The Eighth Sense was probably (in this authors opinion) the best Korean BL of 2023. Set at university in the present, it tells the story of a freshman and a senior who meet by chance and fall in love (and go surfing!) It is filmed very much like a movie – between the soundtrack, cinematography, story and direction this drama told via a regular university setting appears as an epic romance which had me and many co-watchers on the edge of our seats with butterflies in our stomachs. It has wonderful sets including small student area streets and restaurants, the Han river, the seaside and you feel immersed in their lives as the story plays out in front of you. The music is well done making use of melancholy instrumental pieces, popular ballads and even techno dance and I ended up downloading a fair bit of the soundtrack. It is acted incredibly well and the actors recognised the importance of all of the small moments, longing looks, touches and managed to get the feel just right. This is a high quality, well done BL with good skinship, that takes the telling of this story seriously and for all those who have had a crush or been in love, there are so many moments that will resonate and make you feel things.

Divorce Attorney Shin
Divorce Attorney Shin was such an unexpected treat to me as a viewer. It was never anywhere near my watchlist but by chance I came across a comment about the friendships in it that piqued my interest. It was everything I wanted the friendships in A Gentleman’s Dignity to be and more. This quirky bunch of friends were squad goals and I could not get enough of their camping trips, hanging out and making fun of each other in the nicest possible way. 12 episodes of their hijinx wasn’t enough.
As someone with little interest in legal dramas I thought the cases were well chosen and plotted throughout the drama.I would recommend this drama to those who like their characters a little quirky, and appreciate a good on screen friendship.
One Day Off
Ever wanted to run away from the tedium of everyday life? One Day Off tells the story of Park Ha Kyung who finds balance in her life by running away from it all just once a week. This web drama lets us join her on a handful of her adventures in which she walks, eats and lets her mind wander throughout various locales of the Korean peninsula.
This drama was delightful on many levels to me. Ha Kyung was a very real character who was just so relatable to me. I liked that she was awkward and brave and curious about the world around her. I love that she travelled on her own and didn’t make a big deal about it. I loved the places she visited, the people she met and the food she ate. I don’t doubt that you will too.
If you are a fan of slice of life dramas, love travelling, eating, or want to fix your work/life balance this drama could be the perfect fit for you.
The Kidnapping Day
The Kidnapping day is such a surprisingly wholesome romp. It tells the story of Kim Myung Joo who decides to kidnap a child of a rich family in order to pay his sick daughter’s hospital bills. Things don’t go to plan from the very beginning when he finds that he is unable to demand a ransom as her family has likely been murdered. Meanwhile, the child he kidnapped has lost her memory and believes herself to be his daughter.
The magic of the drama comes from the chemistry between Myung Joo and Ro Hee as they team up to work out what happened to her family and along the way become each others ride or die. This drama is a short and tightly plotted drama which kept me glued to my screen wondering what crazy twist would happen next.
If you only watch one of 2023’s kidnapping dramas, make it this one!

He allegedly confessed to multiple LDS bishops about his sexual criminal behavior, but was not reported to police by any of them. • Case report - a Utah Mormon man who helped raise 54 foster children is charged with forcible sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.

• Case report - a federal court in New Mexico grants partial judgment in favor of the LDS church, saying that priests' sexual misdeeds do NOT fall within the scope of "church employment." The alleged sexual abuse occurred in the 1960s by a Mormon branch president (Las Vegas, New Mexico Branch).
• Case report - an LDS church member and former Primary worker in the Redmond, Washington area admits to investigators to sexually abusing around six to eight young boys over a period of multiple years. Some of the alleged child sexual abuse occurred during Sunday sacrament meetings, in view of multiple adults.
• Case report - A California jury awards a sexual abuse victim $2.28 billion in a default verdict against her stepfather who she claimed had abused her for years, starting when she was 6 years old. The LDS church settled in December 2022 for $995,000, which resulted in it being released from being a defendant in the lawsuit. During the abuser’s sentencing, only one adult (not LDS) sat with the victim. Several LDS members, including her mother and bishop, sat on the abuser’s side.

• Case report - a Mormon church member in Utah is charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a minor on suspicion of his involvement in sex tourism and distribution of child sexual abuse material, or CSAM (commonly referred to as child pornography, or CP).

• Case report - an LDS church member and former BYU professor in Provo, Utah is sentenced according to a plea agreement in which he agreed to plead no contest to three class A misdemeanor charges of sexual battery, complete 24 months of probation, do 50 hours of community service, and take a sexual boundaries course. He had been accused by three former students of sexually abusing them.
• Case report - an LDS church member in Idaho was sentenced to 8 to 18 years in prison for sexual abuse of an underage victim. He sexually assaulted his victim while his family was at Mormon church meetings.

• Case report - former Mormon missionary arrested in Idaho and charged with rape of a minor. He was caught in a sting operation in December 2022 in Virginia while on his mission, and accused of soliciting explicit pictures and video from a person he believed to be an 11-year-old girl. We spoke with a source familiar with the case, who told us that the defendant's Mormon leaders failed to inform his congregation about the reason he was sent home early from his mission.
• Case report - $10.3 million lawsuit filed against former Mormon “ministering brother” (home teacher) and youth leader awaiting trial for child sex abuse in Virginia.

• Case report - a retired Mormon police officer and former Utah Valley University adjunct professor in American Fork, Utah was arrested and charged with 11 felony counts related to child sexual exploitation. He allegedly tried recording a 13-year-old girl showering. Investigators found 300+ child sexual abuse material (CSAM) images/videos on his devices.
• Case report - an LDS church member and president of the National Association of Realtors resigns after accusations of sexual misconduct. He is a former Mormon ward young men's leader in Utah and bishopric counselor in a BYU-Provo ward.

A ward bishopric in his LDS stake sends its members an email about it. He is a grandson of deceased Mormon apostle Bruce McConkie.

• Case report - A Uintah County, Utah attorney is charged with voyeurism and stalking after allegedly filming his female employees in his law firm's bathroom.
• Case report - An Idaho LDS man who counseled sexual trauma survivors pleads guilty to felony sexual abuse or exploitation of a vulnerable adult. He had admitted to using a nonverbal adult in his care as a "sexual object."

I recently found this information - that procrastination is a coping mechanism but also a learned behavior. The origin of this behavior apparently links back to an authoritative, control, shallow, distant, cold, high conflict relationship with dad. Children described their relationship to parents as failure to bond emotionally as well as rebellious behavior, anxiety, delinquency. Children use procrastination as a way to cope because they couldn't rebel.
These types of children care about what others think of them. So why do they chose to procrastinate? Decisional procrastination - not making decisions - they let others decide for them. So that they couldn't be later blamed if there was a bad outcome. "They let others bail them out"
Procrastinators choose to show a "Lack of effort" rather than "Lack of ability." - by doing this they can avoid responsibility, criticism & blame - because if it is the child's "lack of effort" that is at fault - they can not be judged by others for their "Lack of ability" to do the task.
Why did I need to control my lack in effort? I think it was the "safest" option at the time... it was a way for me to have control vs. showing others that we lack the ability to do something. I think this is how I coped in a toxic family dynamic -
There were other things included such as procrastinators having a self regulation - failure. There is a delay of gratification - people procrastinate because they can't regulate pleasure. They want it now -- can't delay gratification to the future. etc.
Looking like a failure - making excuses - Easy to blame yourself for not putting in more effort - If its my own fault I can't be judged by others on my "lack of ability" to do the task.
Why was failing something that I was scared of to begin with? I made a list of things that happened.
Dad would constantly criticize me - by telling me how "I couldn't do anything right" - failure had negative consequences so I wanted to avoid it as much as possible - since I probably wanted to please, fawn, cater & have a closer relationship to my dad.
Accomplishments I did make - were downplayed, ignored, or not acknowledged.
Experimentation, failure and accomplishments were viewed as not being safe. If I wanted to do something dad would overexplain how difficult that shit was - this would lead to me 2nd guessing myself - causing me to not wanting to do the thing.
(Bonus - mother would constantly compare me to other people)
Why?
Because if I had failed at doing something difficult. My dad would always say things like "I told you so." My dad made a huge deal about always needing to be right about everything. If I had to break it down -- I didn't want him to have proof that I was a failure.. it was easier to be judged on lacked of effort. Since that was easier to fix in the long run. Like I said... I think this was my way of saving and coping with toxic family dynamics - I was trying to keep my abilities from being criticized into the ground when I actually did try to change & do something.

Gender effect - Females
For females, we found an indirect relation between maternal authoritative parenting and procrastination mediated through the self- system. However, paternal authoritative parenting was not associated with self-worth, but had a direct relation with procrastination. We also found an indirect relation between maternal authoritarian parenting and procrastination. Paternal authoritarian parenting was not associated with self-worth; however, it did have a direct relation with procrastination. In sum, mothers' parenting style predicted self-worth in their daughters which in turn predicted procrastination, whereas fathers' parenting style had a direct effect on procrastination even after controlling for self-worth. It is apparent from these results that mothers and fathers have different effects on their daughters' development. Our results suggest that fathers have a more direct effect on their daughters' development of procrastination, while the mother's effect is mediated through the self-system.
Gender effect - Males
For males the results differed as expected. We found no significant relations between parenting styles, self-worth, and procrastination in the statistical models. These findings suggest that perhaps procrastination has a different meaning for males that is not associated with parenting styles or self-worth.

By now I'm sure we've all seen the news that a temple was announced to be constructed in Maui, which, due to recent events just feels kind of icky. Very tasteless. Unfortunately, whenever we ask why the church is building such enormous, wasteful, expensive buildings, when instead they could be using that money to actually provide help to living people and solve problems, we are inevitably met with "well how much money are you giving to charity?!" or "the church does give its money, seeeee?!"
So, with the Maui temple announcement, I think this is a wonderful opportunity to compare side by side exactly how the church is spending its money when it comes to building temples, as opposed to how it is spending to providing humanitarian relief. So I did a little digging (and apologies in advance, I am not an economist, or have any hand in construction management, disaster relief, or finance at all, this is merely my simple google searching, if there are mistakes, then they are the mistakes of men).
WHAT THE CHURCH HAS ACTUALLY DONE
First, I am giving credit where credit is due. It was reported that the church did offer up its church buildings to unhoused families, and did give a 1 million (yes that's it, 1 million) dollar donation to the Red Cross to assist in relief efforts (source here). Good for them. The best estimates I could find for total cost to rebuild is 1.3 BILLION (source). This estimate is only for residential damage - and is only a preliminary estimate. That is of course only construction costs, not including housing unhoused families, provide medical care, food/water, etc. Since were dealing with construction of buildings, lets stick to construction of buildings. Simple math shows that the total church donation is less that 1/1000 of the total estimated cost to rebuild homes on Maui.
NOW LETS LOOK AT TEMPLES
As you all know, there's not really a great way to gauge how much the church spends on temple construction, since church finances are sacred not secret^TM . But thankfully, some people have done more work than I have. The POCATELLO, IDAHO temple has been estimated at $69 Million (here). Just taking a look at square footage, the average cost to build a home on Maui is anywhere between $350 and $650 (source). Lets just use the middle number, $500 - and assume the temple is about the same size as the Kona, Hawaii temple (10,700 sq ft) Just those numbers give us an average cost of $5,350,000, which is more than 5 times what the church donated to disaster relief for Maui, for bare bones construction cost. And we all know that the church will spare no expense when it comes to building temples.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN
Well, what's the takeaway? Even if the church is spending the absolute bare bones minimum to build a temple on Maui, they will be spending more than the total amount of money they donated to disaster relief. There have been thousands of people displaced by the fires on Maui, and the church has the money and the means to do sooo much more than they are currently doing. And to top it all of, they are choosing to build a large, expensive, spacious building, that only a tiny fraction of the islands population will ever be allowed to go inside. If you're telling me the mormon god is looking down at the distress of grief of his children in Hawaii, and knowing his church is sitting on the finances that would completely solve that suffering (1.3 Billion in damages/150 billion dollar EP fund = 8/1000), but instead is telling his chosen prophet to build him another mansion; then that god is gross and corrupt and not a god I want anything to do with. The numbers don't lie. The church does not care about actually helping people at all. At the end of the day, the church is giving absolutely nothing to charity. A drop in the bucket, just enough to get the photo op on KSL, and enough to give cannon fodder to their members who will inevitably defend the churches actions, without taking the time to figure out the numbers themselves. But I digress.
Thanks for reading! And go do something actually useful with your money, because I guarantee whatever you choose do is better than whatever the church is doing.

SALT LAKE CITY — The injury bug has bitten Utah hard — more so than any season head coach Kyle Whittingham has seen in his 40 years of coaching.
As Utah prepared for its final nonconference game against Weber State Saturday, it was easier to count the number of regular starters on the field than to list all the players on the two-deep roster missing from the game.
Utah gave some guys an off week to heal from bumps and bruises sustained over the course of fall camp and the first two games of the season, while others remain in full rehab to get back onto the field for the first time this season — most notably starting quarterback Cam Rising and starting tight end Brant Kuithe
Whittingham estimated that he's got about 15-16 players dealing with injuries that have sidelined them, three of which were added Saturday.

She shares a last name with, but does not appear to be related to, a former Mormon bishop who was convicted of sexual conduct with a minor in Arizona in the early 1990s.

I'm going to start out by saying that my political standpoint is center left, go ahead and drag me through the mud and try to change my mind if you want to. Why I am posting here is that I want to know your guy's thoughts.
I'm not sure if ya'll have heard, but on Wednesday August 9th, a Utah man was killed when FBI came to his house to arrest and search his home (with warrants).
He was making (and made) death threats to president Biden upon his arrival in Utah (why Biden even came to Utah confuses me).
Now I haven't done a too indepth research on this, my sources are: (2)AP news, Deseret (a Utah news source), and KSL (another Utah news source). I'll have all my source links at the end of this post.
With the arrival of the president and this guy saying hes going to put on a ghille suit and shoot the president, its no wonder that the court ordered some warrants. This man has also made many threats to the FBI, (I'm assuming it's due to the investigation on Trump), and owns many guns, as well as other public figures apart of the democratic party.
Anyways so the FBI asked the man to come out numerous times before they decided they had to get into the house (with warrant).
And this is where the story gets iffy. Shots were fired and the man is dead. Nothing is being said as to whether or not he shot first or not.
Now from my limited interest in things that are happening in the world unless they affect me personally, I don't know much about body cams, but that Biden apparently signed a bill that they have to wear them at all times, but apparently the policy states that this is not required when they have warrants. And it is definitely sketchy that nothing has been said about if they were wearing cams or not (which makes no sense that if they were dealing with what is considered a high risk operation).
My opinion as of now (which might even change as more evidence comes out): Even though this gentleman is older(75), has mobility issues (prolly due to age and his weight), this does not make the man any safer if he has a gun, if the agents felt they were in danger, they acted accordingly.
Now I am aware that this can turn into fear mongering propaganda just like everything is, and it shouldn't be until we know more.
Anyways this isn't anything about gun control (if you want to know my viewpoint just ask), I just want to know your guy's thoughts.

I recently came home to SLC after being away from Utah for some time and wow, the FSY marketing really hit me hard. The SLC airport was filled with so many teenagers running around with FSY shirts on and as I headed home south on I-15, I saw three or four billboards with references to FSY.
So why all the hype?
I know that bishops and leaders are strongly encouraged to have all their teenage ward members attend but why is that?
I (40+M) can't remember a time when this was pushed so hard to this degree. It makes me wonder if at FSY the church is using the time to teach about the "true" history of the church, inoculating teenagers about the history so that when they hear it when they are older its not a big deal.
Or is it that the church recognizes they are losing the younger generation so are doubling down and perhaps see themselves as doing the work of the parents? On May 8, [he] pleaded no contest to three class A misdemeanor counts of sexual battery, one for each student.
[He] will serve no jail time under the sentence issued by 4th District Judge [name], who ordered the Springville man to serve 24 months of probation, 50 hours of community service and complete a sexual boundaries course. The sentence also stipulates no contact with the victims.
[The accused's] statement filed in Provo’s 4th District Court says he “intentionally touched the buttocks of three adult women.”

Background

Beast I. One of the Seven Evils of Humanity, possessing the principle of "Pity".
The King of Mages, Solomon, gathered 72 demons in his life that he fashioned into "a system to promote reason in humans"--a sort of magical logic network. After some time, the demons gained self-awareness and merged into a collective being.
This being, the amalgamation of the 72 Demons, became known as Goetia.
When Solomon died, the demons were sealed away inside his corpse. The awakened Goetia at first assumed Solomon's identity. Through his eyes, they witnessed the extent of human suffering that Solomon, for all the king's vast power, had failed to address. They became disillusioned with their host, and hatched a plan to remake the world without its imperfections by travelling back in time.

Controlling Solomon granted Goetia a variety of abilities, namely the class container of "Grand", which allowed him to outclass any normal Servant by virtue of this.

Physical Feats/Power

• Manifested himself after his own death via his own will, and therefore doesn't need to rely on any sort of magical energy support like normal Servants
• Mordred claims his power exceeds that of a dragon, with Shakesphere going on to say he has 'infinite' magical energy, although he's likely exaggerating
• Tamamo-No-Mae claims that, even if she got all nine of her tails and became "a great demon strong enough to destroy the multiverse" that "[Solomon] is a threat threat enough to rival" her in that state
• When comparing him as Solomon to the Beast of the Seventh Singularity (later revealed to be Tiamat), the Lion King flips around the idea of who might be more of a threat to humanity
  • Kingu/Enkidu later claims that Tiamat is on par or superior to him
• Command spells wouldn't work on Solomon
• Engages with an extensive fight with Mash, hurting her with an attack
• Takes a blow from Mash that 'reaches the core of [his] body'

Clairvoyance

It has been said that Solomon's clairvoyance can see through the past and the future.
Because Clairvoyance is a skill furnished on the flesh, Goetia can also use it.

• Claims that he can 'see everything' and 'all possible futures', but cannot track things which exist outside of time
• [Limit] Even with his Clairvoyance, he didn't foresee the appearance of the Beast of the Seventh Singularity, Tiamat
• Goetia used Solomon's clairvoyance to perceive all human suffering in the past, present, and future
• Solomon sent one of his rings over 3,000 years into the future to act as a catalyst for his own summoning as a Heroic Spirit, putting into motion the events that would lead to Goetia's defeat

• Gives him an unobstructed view of the past and future, as well as x-ray vision

Magecraft / Magic

Offensive

• Solomon/Goetia can summon any of the 72 Demon God Pillars at will, described as him projecting them out from his inner world to the outside world
  • Summons four at once that defeat Kintoki, Tamamo, and Shakespeare. Implies that he can summon far more of them
• Anderson is astonished at how badly he's hurt blocking just a single one of his attack spells
• A second spell rips Anderson into hundreds of pieces and then burns him into a crisp
• Goetia incinerates all living things on the planet at once just with his gaze, a feat characters in the story assumed he would need a powerful technique to accomplish

• Uses magic similar to a Rayshift to transport himself to the London Singularity

Curse

• Solomon has become a walking curse, such that saying his name or looking him in the eye will remove a person's soul and imprison it
• By just looking at him, Mash begins to quake in fear for reasons she can't explain. Her soul might have been imprisoned in the false reality forever if a friend's out of character behavior hadn't tipped her off
• Tamamo with two of her tails believes she'd be vulnerable to the curse
• A person who's been afflicted with the Evil Eye has trouble remembering Solomon's appearance, and even video recordings of him are covered in static
• Even a drawn picture of Solomon can inflict the Evil Eye without special anti-curse precautions

Prison

• To escape, the soul must complete a set of trials within seven days, or death ensues
• Only the soul is imprisoned in the false reality, while the body remains behind. The soul experiences time at a much longer rate in the false world than the body does in the real one with seven days for the soul being equal to one for the body
• The prison's trials drag in fragments of the souls of the prisoner's acquaintances to serve as obstacles, it can do this even to heroic spirits, who have superhumanly powerful souls

General Power and Information

• Hid in Solomon's body for three thousand years in Ars Paulina without any adverse effects due to the passage of time
• Is a "living summoning spell" that hid itself in Solomon's corpse and later gained a will of its own and physically incarnated as a Beast
• Describes himself as a higher-dimensional being that no longer requires flesh or blood. Due to being Solomon's familiars, he shared in Solomon's Clairvoyance
• Due to being an amalgamation of the 72 Demon Gods, which each have individual personalities, Goetia's personality will mirror that of someone who interacts with him on a surface level
• His existence is fixed, meaning he's immune to 'instant death' effects as well as temporal effects, like the paradoxes generated by incinerating human history
• A weakened Beast VII, or the Foreign God, is stated to be the most powerful thing Chaldea has faced since Goetia, with her magical energy being called a "third class planet" to Goetia's "second class planet"

Physical Feats

• Moves so fast he appears to teleport next to Solomon, before bloodying him with a barrage of punches and bombarding him with energy projectiles from his arms

The Beast Class
The entire space of Solomon's temple gives Da Vinci the same Beast Class reading she saw from Tiamat.

• Goetia's Beast Class Skill, Nega Summon, allows him to negate through "invalidation, invincible, absorption, reduction" any attacks or Noble Phantasms generated by Heroic Spirits, although this skill was nullified by King Solomon's actions at the end of the Final Singularity
• The Evils of Humanity, or Beasts, are summoned in a chain, meaning that Goetia's manifestation heralded the appearance of other Beasts

Individual Demon Pillars

Power

• Demon Pillars give off more magical energy than Servants or Phantasmals
• Demon Pillars are weaker while outside of Solomon's Temple, due to their cells dying off
• Demon Pillars have a "Spirit Core" like Servants, as well as innate magical energy, which can be used to fuel other spells (such as one to create pancakes) if defeated
• Require groups of Servants to defeat under normal conditions
• They have comparable power to Kingu during the Babylonian Singularity
• A Demon Pillar is compared to the energy output of a Servant empowering themselves with a Holy Grail
  • The corpse of a Demon Pillar can become a source of magical power similar to a Grail if fused with a servant, and possessing a strong will not to die

Strength

• Eight Demon God Pillars wrapping around the Chaldea building deal catastrophic damage to it and nearly destroy it
  • Reference of how large Chaldea is, the building's size can be compared to hallways connecting the structures in it
• Groups of them tear through the stone and marble of Solomon's throne when called to Goetia, reducing it to ruins
• Erupts out of the floor in a metal observation room, then attacks and absorbs a number of researchers

Damage Output
Demon Pillars attack in a number of ways:

• Various forms of spontaneous explosions that can cover multiples of meters
• Energy blasts that erupt from the ground
• Large storms of smoke that cover the battlefield
• Lasers, presumably fired from their eyes

These attacks are threatening to a variety of named servants:

• An attack from four Demon Pillars oneshot Kintoki, Tamamo, and Shakesphere
• Hurts and sends Robin Hood and Helena Blatvasky flying
• Spits out flames hot enough to burn Oda Nobunaga^FGO
• Draws blood on Fergus Lily, hurting him, although he's defeated in the overall fight against Astolfo, D'Eon, and Fergus
• Bloodies Wu Zetian with an attack

Durability
Favorable Interactions

• One takes a bullet from Francis Drake and continues to fight Mash, Ritsuka, and allies, although it loses the overall battle
• Li Shuwen has trouble injecting them with chi attacks, mostly due to their size
• Robin Hood's 'Yew Bow' and Elizabeth Bathory's weaponized singing don't do anything to them
• Tesla's Noble Phantasm, 'System Keranos', doesn't appear to do much to them, neither does a combined attack from Tesla and Edison's Noble Phantasms
• Lancer Li Shuwen breaks his spear on one
• Cursed Arm and Serenity have no means of harming them, even with Serenity's poison
• Oda Nobunaga's special attacks and bullets have no effect on Demon God Pillars
• Takes a hit from three bullets fired from EMIYA Alter and doesn't seem bothered by it moments later
• A Demon Pillar in its humanoid form take a blast of magic from the Queen of Sheba and is fine
• Takes fire produced by Chacha's abilities and fights Ritsuka, Okita, Nobunaga, and Hijikata, although it ultimately loses the fight
• A recreation of the Demon God Pillars gets bombarded with meteors from outer space by Astrea's Noble Phantasm, and continues to fight with Grey and Astrea, with Astrea commenting it was just as strong as the originals

• A suicide Noble Phantasm release from Arjuna kills twenty-eight of them
• Altera destroys one with Teardrop Photon Ray

• Bedivere takes out three pillars with an activation of his Noble Phantasm

• Edmond Dantes was able to take out a pillar by himself
• Ritsuka and his allies (in this case EMIYA Alter and Artoria Alter) were able to kill a Demon God Pillar
• One is defeated by Gawain, although Ritsuka notes it seemed particularly weak

Powers
Immortality

• The 72 Demon Gods are all part of the same magecraft ritual associated with Solomon, so as long as Solomon exists, they'll continue to exist even if destroyed
• After Mash kills Flauros, he instantly re-appears, with Mash describing this as an entirely new separate entity being born, and not some form of regeneration or resurrection
  • Vlad the Impaler runs out of stakes to hit them with due to how fast/often they were doing this
• Killing all 72 at once would be required to actually kill them for good
• Creating new demon pillars to replace fallen ones does draw away power from the center of Solomon's Temple, giving Chaldea entryway to the center of Ars Paulina
• Nightingale claims that killing them for good would require destroying all of Ars Paulina
• Even after escaping the Temple of Time and losing their proper immortality, individual demon pillars live for over 3,000 years to plot against Ritsuka

Other

• Demon Pillars can fuse with Heroic Spirits, even against their will
  • When Phenex did this with Scheherazade,, the two could trade places and transform into one another
  • A Heroic Spirit temporarily integrated into Goetia's hivemind via this process gained access to information he could use to calculate out events related to the Incineration of Humanity
  • Merging with a Heroic Spirit gives a Demon Pillar protection from its skills, such as Scheherazade's inability to be killed by Kings
• A number of Demon God Pillars were able to escape the Temple of Time's destruction while leaving ripples in space-time, this being an extradimensional space outside of time
• A number of Demon God Pillars demonstrate the ability to possess humans
• As of the events of Lady Reines' Case Files, Ritsuka has killed so many Demon Pillars that just inserting information about him into facsimiles of them cause them to get significantly weaker

King of Humans - Goetia

"The Demon Gods have burned away. My temple is destroyed. My grand plan for the Incineration of Human Order dies with me. But, I will at least deny you this final victory. Let us begin... Master of Chaldea. I shall annihilate you, and all you've achieved, with my own hands."

Despite Ars Nova ending Solomon's spell that bound the 72 Demons together, Goetia manages to linger long enough for one last fight. However, in this weakened state he can be defeated by a punch from Ritsuka.

Noble Phantasms

Goetia's third Noble Phantasm. The "" of original sin. A belt of light that announces mankind’s demise.
Goetia is able to manipulate this belt of light in order to collect, accelerate and converge portions of it, travelling through the timestream or otherwise influencing it.
Singularities
For his plan to work, Goetia needed to make cause and effect stop working, so he can set fire to multiple periods of time in history at the same time.
He enables this by destabilizing human history with Singularities. These are turning points in human history that he's sent Holy Grails (powerful magic artifacts) to change important historical events.
Reference of what Holy Grails can do
Creation

• Singularities are key turning points in human history that have been interfered with, causing aberrations in the timestream. Goetia's Incineration of Humanity involved seven primary Singularities
• Resolving individual singularities will not fix the timestream. Only resolving all seven will set things right
• Solomon caused some Singularities by sending his Demon Pillars to different eras to directly alter historical events
  • These Demon Gods were embedded in King Solomon's descendants and activated like sleeper agents all at once in 2018
  • Goetia hid his Demon Pillars inside of the magic circuits passed down generationally by mages so he could seed them at specific points in history
• Solomon sent one of these grails directly backwards through time to Babylon, and and removing it is especially necessary to keep human history from burning
• Goetia's singularities had such a profound effect on human history that it rippled to other timelines, and caused singularities to still pop up after he was defeated

Structure/Attributes

• Singularities are cut off from the rest of the timeline, existing apart from the past or the future
• Singularities are immune to time paradoxes, so Ritsuka and Mash fighting soldiers in the past doesn't have any adverse affects
• Singularities are bound to a specific area, which can vary between the size of a city to the entire United States

Incineration of Human History
Once human history is destabilized, Goetia 'sets fire' to every moment of it and lets it burn. The energy is then collected as "Spiritrons" (magical energy) and raw heat.
Of course, this has catastrophic affects on the timeline.

• Chaldeas lost its ability to sense the future, or detect the outside world - this was because there was no more outside world to detect, as Goetia's Incineration of Humanity destroyed the timeline
• Despite being able to Rayshift to different points in time, Chaldea can only travel between Singularities because the rest of the timeline has been eradicated
• The Incineration of Humanity also affected The Land of Shadows, a realm described as being sundered from the mortal world
• The Incineration of Humanity burned all biological matter on Earth across all points in time as fuel to reset the universe
• Goetia needed to create Singularities to in order to weaken "the strength of human history" enough to carry out the Incineration of Humanity. Singularities break up the timeline into fractured chunks, allowing for the paradox necessary to incinerate matter during all points in its existence

Bands of Light
Finally, this energy is then channeled into Goetia's temple, and refined into bands of light that he can control and release at will. Either as weapons, or as fuel to for his ultimate goal: time travel to the creation of the Earth.

• Each Singularity Ritsuka and company travel to have a series of light bands encircling the sky present. These are around the size of North America
• These bands of light are the manifestation of Goetia's Noble Phantasm locking the rotation of the planet in place for the Incineration of Humanity
• Each individual band of light has comparable heat output to Artoria Alter's Holy Sword. The Noble Phantasm manifests hundreds of millions of them at once
  • Respect Artoria Alter
• Ushiwakamaru Alter claims the band of light are the only thing that could destroy Tiamat's corrupted ocean
• One of the Demon Pillars claims it could be used to incinernate all the Heroic Spirits summoned to fight in the Temple of Time
• The bands of light could burn away the outer layers of the planet. Mash says nothing on Earth could match their energy output
• Manifests as a beam of light from the sky that clashes with Mash wielding Lord Camelot. While Mash is able to block the attack, it still vaporizes her through her shield
• After Goetia is defeated, the bands of light start to release their energy into the atmosphere with nobody to control them. Da Vinci says the effect of this would be like a supernova
• The magical energy circulated between the Trees of Emptiness, and channeled into the Atlantis Lostbelt to summon the Foreign God had already built up to the same level of power as the Bands of Light prior Chaldea entering it
• [Limit] Even if they were collected and used to attack Chaos, the Bands of Light wouldn't be able to destroy it
  • Chaos is a mechanical being whose core is an entire star, otherwise known as a Dyson Sphere

Ars Paulina: The Time of Crowning has Come, He is the One who Begins All

A Reality Marble that Goetia fabricated by amplifying the remains of King Solomon, forming a magical workshop in "void space" that exists outside the normal flow of time.
Reality Marbles are essentially self-contained dimensions that 'paint over the world' in a given area. Here's a better schematic explaining what they do.
Physical Structure and Location

• His temple resides outside of time, and can only be found by tracking back its location from the Seventh Grail
  • Da Vinci and Romani have no methods to track Goetia returning to his temple
• Chaldea pinpointing its location by analyzing Goetia's Seventh Grail also opens a back door for Goetia to locate him in turn, and it begins to pull him out of the timeline to itself
• Described as a "miniature model of the universe" containing no other celestial bodies, about the size of a cell when compared to the universe proper
  • There's still sort of celestial background present inside of it
• The temple lacks a concept of time. This property facilitated the Incineration of Humanity
• A recreation of the Temple is too cold for normal life to survive in it

Properties

• The route to the throne itself is blocked by a swirling tempest of "incalculable" amounts of magical energy, with Da Vinci believing Chaldea had to destroy areas around it to have a chance of getting through
  • The throne is accessible after Mash and Ritsuka remove this magical energy tempest via a fissure in space a kilometer long
• The temple has a similar composition as the Greater Grail of Fuyuki. It is made up of of Solomon's magic circuits, which form a small self-contained universe
• The throne is a giant magic summoning circle with planetary magecraft at its core

Ars Nova

Goetia: Light Band Convergence Ring

• Goetia prepared his endgoal feat from the Incineration of Humanity as a 'virtual Noble Phantasm' due to not knowing the purpose or how to activate the original
• This ultimate feat, which he would use all the energy collected by Ars Almadel Salomonis to accomplish, would have him travel 4.6 billion years into the past to the birth of the planet, where he would then change the starting conditions of the world so that death did not exist, with him supplanting the planet with his own body

Solomon: The Time of Parting has Come, He is the One who Lets Go of the World

• By having all his ten rings present between those worn by Goetia and himself, Solomon can recreate the legend of him giving all his rings back to God
  • Activates as Solomon slowly becoming engulfed in a pure white light while chanting
• After using it, everything related to Solomon is wiped from existence and rendered inert. This includes Goetia himself as Solomon brought the Demon Gods together, as well as Solomon's rings, and Solmon's ability to be summoned as a Heroic Spirit
• Although this doesn't instantly kill Goetia, the Demon Pillars that make him up finally start to die for good, and start separating from the collective

Individual Demon Pillars - Unique Abilities

While it's likely that Goetia possesses all these abilities as the composite of all Demon God Pillars, some of his components developed wills of their own and gained unique abilities before and after his destruction at the hands of Chaldea.

Flauros

• Flauros can change his shape between a human form, Lev Lainur, and his true Demon Pillar form^FGO
  • Some other Pillars can also do this, but they are more obviously inhuman
• Lev has a spell similar to a Command Spell, controlling Caligula's actions^FGO
• Helped create SHEBA under Goetia's guidance, which is a failsafe to detect and act against Demon Pillars that go rogue from Goetia's collective, SHEBA is an observational lens that can sense the near-future, and could give Chaldea detailed information from inside of a bubble that absorbed all forms of normal radiation
  • Had enough intelligence to react to the threat of the Salem Singularity and summon a Heroic Spirit to it by using itself as a catalyst

Andras

After separating from Goetia, Andras gained a self-awareness and will to live, and escaped from the Temple of Time near-death, but died afterwards. Even then, its 'vindictive desires' remained as a corpse that could maintain a being by fusing to a Heroic Spirit, summoning and doing so with Chacha and Hijikata to create a singularity-like space.

• The space created by Andras is completely disconnected from the past or future, and time inside of it doesn't progress, having carved the space out of time itself, or at least travelled to an existing space like this
• Nobukatsu used him in a ritual to summon a demonic castle where nothing inside can die, so that he and Nobunaga can live forever inside. It disappears when Andras is defeated
• Summons waves of corpses to fight Ritsuka and allies

Bael

• Somehow hacked into Ritsuka's Rayshift coordinates, which made all of his servants rayshifted with him go off in random directions and himself to spawn in hundreds of feet into the air
• While believing itself to be the heroic spirit Moriarty, Bael somehow fights Chaldea and disappears like a Heroic Spirit, only to re-appear as a demon pillar
• Learned how to fuse together Phantom and Heroic spirits, though Phantom Spirits cannot normally be summoned as complete entities
  • Fused together being from multiple legends to create Hessian Lobo, granting it composite abilities such as the Invisible Man's invisibility
  • Fused Moriarty with Der Freischütz, giving his weapon supernatural accuracy on the 7th shot, something that could even apply to objects as large as a meteor to make it strike Earth
  • Moriarty uses this method to absorb the defeated Sherlock Holmes

Phenex

• As the Demon God of Death, he isn't detected by Chaldea's scans for life because he's technically dead
• Despite being killed by Ritsuka and his allies, re-appears later in the body of a nearby corpse, transforming back into its demonic form
• Constantly regenerates from being attacked by D'Eon, Fergus, and Astolfo
• Endures Caladbolg's vortex, which destroyed a floating island big enough to house an entire forest and a mountain
• [Limit] Is hit with Wu Zeitan's Noble Phantasm, and still fights while being afflicted with it
  • The attack works by keeping Phenex in "state of both life and death", allowing Phenex to finally be weakenedand then killed
• Despite all of the above, it still has enough strength to try and attack Scheherazade, although it's killed with one last burst from Fergus' sword
