2024.05.14 19:28 kbstrangerthings I started oxybutynin a week ago.

I think I am starting to see good changes! Almost no sweating in my hands & feet, which are the places where I drip sweat. Reduced sweating in armpits as well although this was not too big of an issue for me compared to my hand sweat. I really hope this medicine continues to show effects on my hyperhidrosis with minimal to no side effects! So far I haven’t noticed a huge difference in how I feel or noticed any of the listed side effects. I up my dosage today from 2.5mg once a day, to 2.5mg twice a day. One more step when I try 5mg once daily in about 3 weeks. I have struggled with this condition since I was very young. For as long as I can remember, sweat has impaired the ability to do certain activities with my hands. As I got older my feet started producing more sweat and most recently, my armpits started to sweat more. I will try to continue to share my experience as I have looked all over this group for remedies and relief from this very annoying and impairing condition. After reading a bit about oxybutynin on here, I bit the bullet coming home from work and picked up my prescription. Im not a fan of taking meds (or at least not ones that dont have mostly harmless natural ingredients) but I was very fed up with sweating and sage seemed to not work so I had to move on to try a stronger solution for myself. If anyone wants to share their experience taking oxybutynin feel free to, it would be greatly appreciated! Best wishes to everyone else struggling with this :)

2024.05.14 18:24 Exotic_Revenue7013 Help on load order

I'm new to skyrim and modding in general but I read on load order is important that the game runs properly but I have no idea what or how to exactly sort it properly. Could anybody give a general guideline to follow. Currently whenever i encounter any problems i either do: a) Skip the mod entirely after searching the mods and found it might be too complex to follow b) Reinstall Skyrim and hope for the best c) Enable and disable mods to find out which is working or not working
Here's my plugin modlist if it helps

Buying Guide for Acne-Fighting Face Washes:
When choosing a face wash for acne-prone skin, consider the following factors:
  1. Ingredients: Look for active ingredients such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or tea tree oil, known for their acne-fighting properties. These ingredients help unclog pores, reduce inflammation, and prevent future breakouts.
  2. Skin Type: Consider your skin type and any specific concerns you may have, such as sensitivity or dryness. Choose a face wash that is suitable for your skin type to avoid exacerbating existing issues.
  3. Formulation: Opt for a gentle, non-comedogenic formula that effectively cleanses the skin without stripping away its natural oils. Foaming or gel-based cleansers are often preferred for acne-prone skin, as they help remove excess oil and impurities.
  4. Reviews and Ratings: Take into account the reviews and ratings of the product from other users. Look for feedback on its effectiveness in treating acne, its texture and scent, and any potential side effects or drawbacks.
When purchasing a face wash for acne-prone skin, consider these factors along with your personal preferences to find the best option for your skincare needs.

2024.05.14 17:19 treslilbirds First visit to the ER for allergic reaction and I’m questioning myself on everything

I just keep replaying the whole thing in my head and everyone else’s reactions and I still don’t know if I did the right thing. Did I do too much? Not enough? I’m hoping maybe some parents in here that work in healthcare can give me an unbiased answer.
So daughter is 4 (turning 5 in June). She was diagnosed at birth with septo optic dysplasia and optic nerve hypoplasia. Long story short, she has very low vision and developmental and verbal delays. She is otherwise healthy as a horse, active, very strong, followed by specialists at a children’s hospital nearby, gets therapy through school, all that good stuff. We’ve never had issues with allergies, she’s been stung by a wasp (barely phased her), eats peanut butter, has had cooked egg and stuff made with egg and no issues. So this was alarming to say the least.
We live out in the country and have chickens so there’s no shortage of eggs that are laid out around my kitchen on a daily basis (obviously not anymore). About a month ago she grabbed one off the counter, broke it, and got egg all over her arms and hands and some on her face. I didn’t think much of it, it had happened before plenty of times. I cleaned her up, wiped up the floor and went on making dinner. She went and played in her room and when she walked back out I noticed she had little bumps popping up on her face and arms where the egg got on her. She didn’t seem bothered at all, I put some hydrocortisone cream on her, gave her a dose of Claritin just to be safe and it was cleared up in less than 10 minutes. I mentioned it to one of her teachers the next day at school and asked if they had ever noticed anything when they would have eggs for breakfast and they said no and told me they’d keep an eye out. And that was it. I didn’t think too much about it after that.
Fast forward to yesterday. Same scenario, I’m about to make lunch and she manages to grab an egg that I was sure was out of her reach, she dropped it, I immediately went over and checked her. It wasn’t even that much that got on her that I could tell. I got everything cleaned up and not even 5 minutes later her entire face is swollen, eyes swollen shut, bumps all over her legs and face. I am internally panicking at this point because it was so sudden and not something I ever expected to deal with. Plus we’re home alone and the nearest ER is at least 30 minutes away. There is a local clinic less than 5 minutes from our house so I called them, explained what was going on. Her face was swollen but she was still in good spirits, breathing fine, didn’t seem to be in distress. They told me to go ahead and bring her in. I just assumed the quicker I could get her to medical professionals, the better. I did consider calling for an ambulance but we’re in a rural area with one ambulance to service the entire county and I knew I could get her to the clinic faster than the ambulance could get to me. We get to the clinic, I’m filling out paperwork, nobody at the front really seems phased, they see her face but not really acting like it’s urgent. Nurse takes us back, gets her weight and height, gets history from me. She tried to get Daughter’s vitals but she has never tolerated any of that since infancy. Blood pressure cuffs send her into a full meltdown, she won’t keep a pulse ox on her finger. I always feel so bad for healthcare workers having to deal with her because as sweet as she is, she is EXTREMELY difficult at doctor visits. I can tell the nurse is getting frustrated with us. So then the NP comes in and looks at her and asks me, “So is there a reason why you didn’t just go to the ER?” My heart dropped and I tried to stay calm and told her I came here because it was a lot closer and I did call first and explain the situation and they said it was fine to come in. She then proceeded to tell me that they weren’t really equipped to handle anything like this and I should have just gone to the ER. I guess that was my first dumb mistake, assuming that a clinic with a full pharmacy attached could handle an allergic reaction. I just figured they’d give her a shot of Benadryl and we’d be good. But apparently not.
Other than the swelling and hives, Daughter wasn’t showing any other symptoms. The NP listened to her chest, said everything sounded good but she still wanted her to be monitored in case something happened and we’d be best off taking the ambulance to the ER. They gave her a dose of oral Benadryl and called the ambulance for us. Thirty minutes later the ambulance gets there, and we head to the ER. They were very kind and understanding, Daughter was actually having a good time riding in the ambulance, laughing and singing. She wouldn’t let them hook up any monitoring equipment still but they kept a close eye on her. I start feeling a little bad at this point because she’s still not in any distress and other than the severe facial swelling, seems totally fine, so I started feeling guilty for wasting local resources and peoples time.
We get to the ER and they get us to a bed and one of the nurses comes over and I can just tell right off the bat that she doesn’t even want us there. She was very short with us and kept talking at my daughter telling her that she’d have to leave if she didn’t act right. I kept mentioning that she was low vision and had verbal delays but I don’t know if she was listening. I was beyond stressed at this point and so was Daughter and she was admittedly being difficult yet again and not keeping the pulse ox on her finger. I just mentioned to the nurse that we have to go to the children’s hospital a lot and they’ve only ever managed to get her vitals once when she was sedated for an MRI. I guess at the time I was just trying to acknowledge that yes my kid is difficult and let the nurse know please don’t feel bad because she’s like this with everybody. I wasn’t trying to tell her how to do her job. She glared at me and snapped “I am NOT sedating your child just to get her vitals!” and stormed back over to the nurses station across from our bed and repeated the same thing loudly, “I am NOT sedating someone to get their vitals that’s just RIDICULOUS!!”
I’m trying not to break down and cry at this point. I feel like I should just apologize to everyone for wasting their time and leave. Like I’m that dumbass that went to the ER for no reason and took up space that a real emergency could have used. A different nurse came over and was very sweet. She used a different monitor that taped to her toe and we were able to get a quick reading just to verify that her stats were good. The doctor came in and listened to her heart and checked her out for any other symptoms. Said she seemed stable but he wanted to watch her for a couple of hours to make sure the Benadryl was working and she continued to improve. So after we hung out for an hour and watched PBS kids, her hives went away and her face cleared up and her eyes opened back up. The doctor came in and cleared her, pharmacy tech came in and brought us her Epipen prescription and gave us instructions on what to do next time (Benadryl, blue to sky, orange to thigh, straight to ER). Paid $300 and went home.
Daughter is perfectly fine. I however am not. I barely slept last night between getting up to check on her and replaying the whole scenario in my head. Part of me feels like I didn’t do enough and the other part feels like I overreacted and wasted peoples time. I apologize for this being so long. It’s just all been so heavy on my mind and I needed to get it out and get another perspective on the whole situation. Much thanks to anyone that managed to read all of this.

2024.05.14 16:55 weightloss_2024 Are there any weight loss supplements that specifically target stubborn belly fat, a major concern for many dieters in the US?

Targeting specific areas of fat, like stubborn belly fat, is a common desire for many people trying to lose weight. While there are numerous weight loss supplements on the market claiming to target belly fat specifically, it's essential to approach them with caution and skepticism.
Here are some common ingredients found in weight loss supplements that are often marketed for targeting belly fat:
  1. Caffeine: Stimulants like caffeine are believed to increase metabolism and promote fat burning. However, while caffeine may provide a temporary boost in energy and metabolism, its effects on long-term weight loss and belly fat reduction are limited.
  2. Green Tea Extract: Green tea contains compounds like catechins and caffeine that are thought to enhance fat oxidation and promote weight loss. Some studies suggest that green tea extract may modestly reduce body weight and waist circumference, including belly fat, but results can vary.
  3. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): CLA is a type of fatty acid found in meat and dairy products, as well as in supplement form. Some research suggests that CLA supplements may help reduce body fat, including belly fat, although the evidence is mixed and the effects may be modest.
  4. Garcinia Cambogia: This tropical fruit extract is often marketed as a weight loss supplement. Some studies suggest that it may inhibit fat production and suppress appetite, but the evidence is limited and inconclusive.
  5. Soluble Fiber: Fiber supplements like glucomannan are believed to promote feelings of fullness and reduce appetite, potentially aiding in weight loss. While increasing fiber intake through whole foods is generally beneficial, the evidence on the effectiveness of fiber supplements for belly fat reduction is limited.
It's important to note that no supplement can specifically target fat loss in one area of the body, such as the belly, without affecting overall body composition. Additionally, many weight loss supplements may come with potential side effects or interact with medications.
The most effective and sustainable approach to reducing belly fat and promoting overall weight loss is through a combination of healthy eating, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and stress management. Focus on consuming a balanced diet rich in whole foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains, while minimizing processed foods, sugary beverages, and excessive calorie intake. Combine this with regular physical activity, including both cardiovascular exercise and strength training, to support fat loss and improve body composition over time. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medications.

2024.05.14 16:48 MathsGuy1 The Rise of the Soulmancer pt6: Graduation

The Rise of the Soulmancer pt6: Graduation
/uw context: part5
/rw
Months had slipped away as Deamor delved deeper and deeper into the intricacies of soulmancy. While still nowhere near the proficiency required to start to meddle with his Spirit to completely solve his affinity problems, he still made a significant progress in understanding how Souls and Soul magic worked. Moreover, it seemed his book treated not only about soulmancy, but also contained plenty useful tips about magic in general.
This newfound insight into inner workings of magic allowed him to excel in many of his classes. While he still couldn't channel as much power as them, his ability to manipulate and use mana greatly improved. He got rid of many flaws and inefficiencies in the way he cast spells. This process would normally be done through years of honing a particular spell, but combining his Mana Vision with his newly acquired Soul Vision allowed him to quickly spot many of his shortcomings. Although he couldn't quite master spells from the get-go, of course, the learning curve was significantly shortened.
Over time, the prices of potion ingredients and potions themselves stabilized, reverting to the pre-crisis levels. Consequently, Deamor required considerably less coin to buy his supply of mana elixirs. Thanks to that, he had to undertake the "special jobs" far less often. The fact that he become a quite skilled burglar also meant that his pay was incomparably greater than before. He now could stick to merely doing relatively low-risk missions every now and then, which left him with plenty of time to further his study of soulmancy or to simply rest and enjoy life. This was an abstract concept to him so far and thus he made sure to relish it while he could.
In the end he opted not to tell Kate and Markus about his illegal activities nor about his secret studies. He was sure his friends suspected the former anyways, they just respected him enough not to breach the subject. As former waifs as him, they understood him well. They knew that even if they offered help, he would refuse. As for soulmancy, he decided that it would bring far too much risk for both them and himself. This school of magic was dangerous to even have knowledge of, not to mention pursue it. Perhaps he would tell them at some point, but in the current circumstances it was far too risky. For now, he just relished in the extra free time he had and used it to finally have some fun together with his friends at the various bars and taverns in the Capital.
The years went by peacefully, however the more Deamor delved into the secrets of the art of divination, the more anxious he felt. Initially it was hard to notice, but now it became clear. The results of any divinations related to his person, or things closely related to him, would be extremely vague or often even downright wrong. In theory the opposite should be true - the closer an object was related to the caster, the more precise the visions should be.
When he tried to divine the location of his parents, he found something particularly distressing. In reality, they were supposed to be lying in the graves for almost a decade, yet more than half of the time his visions shown them to be in their old house or other places they frequented back when they were alive. It shouldn't have been possible! He saw their bodies being buried with his own two eyes! Divination was a fickle art, true, but it shouldn't have be so wrong so consistently in such simple matters.
Deamor checked all of the places his visions have shown him, multiple times even, yet there were never any traces of his parents there. He even employed his Soul Vision, to see if maybe the Souls of his parents lingered in this world as ghosts, but he hadn't spotted anything out of the ordinary.
At first he considered consulting his professors, but in the end he refrained from doing so. There was a chance he would end up as a test subject for some experiments and the increased scrutiny might end up uncovering his other secrets. The only two people he trusted enough to confide in were his friends. They confirmed his results, but even though they were less talented in divination than him, paradoxically their results were wrong less often.
Deamor spent days pouring over tomes about divination anomalies, however he struggled to find anything similar to his predicament. The existence of spells and curses that could impede divination was widely known, but something that would work only sometimes and which was more pronounced the more someone was skilled at divination was extremely weird and unheard of. Not to mention that this anomaly, spell, curse or whatever else this was must have been quite powerful, as it affected not only him but even people and objects related to him and was seemingly permanent.
He was puzzled, as he couldn't think of any reason why somebody or something would target him. Apart from his secret soulmancy book, there was nothing particularly remarkable about him. Perhaps that book was the key?
Eventually, he decided that there was no point in dwelling on the mystery. There was little he could do about it for now. Furthermore, his "divination protection" could be not only a curse, but a boon as well - it might protect him from his enemies and hide his secrets. When faced with uncontrollable circumstances, seeking opportunities in them rather than surrendering to defeat was paramount.
The remainder of his time at the Academy was fairly uneventful, until the end of his studies grew near. A major exam was supposed to take place and only those that passed would be allowed to bear the title of an official trained wizard. Thanks to countless cups of coffee and other... stronger brews, he managed to rank among the top ten scores in his two favorite subjects: abjuration and divination. His knowledge of soulmancy helped him in many other subjects, such as necromancy, enchantment and transmutation. Not just his spellcasting was examined though - he was tested on subjects such as history, mathematics, rhetoric, martial arts and even etiquette. As his weak Spirit didn't hinder him in these areas, he did fairly well. By far the hardest test for him was the evocation exam, as it required constant channeling of plenty of high-tier spells. Fortunately, he managed to pass, if barely.
Many others weren't so lucky, however. Only about two thirds of the students that started along with him were still around by then and the exam brought that percentage down even further. In particular, out of around 70 commoner students that were admitted, only 24 remained. Fortunately his friends were among them.
Following the exams, a ceremony conferred special pendants upon successful candidates, symbolizing their new status. Afterwards, a grand ball was held to celebrate this event, with many high-ranking nobles, powerful wizards and other important figures present. Even the Emperor himself came and congratulated the young wizards. Deamor used this time to make new connections, hoping to perhaps enter some fruitful partnerships in the future. Despite his low birth, graduation from the Academy elevated his status similar to that of a minor noble. Given how influential the mages were in the Empire, attempting to gain favor of the promising graduates was a common practice.
Deamor quickly grew tired of the fake smiles and formal introductions. Engaging in polite conversation with powerful nobles, where he had to consider his every word, proved more taxing than casting even the most complex spells. Well, at least he managed to invite Kate to dance and the wine here was better than anything he's ever tasted. Still, he wished he could simply get drunk with his friends instead of sitting here. Nonetheless, he recognized the rarity of the opportunity such as this ball and persevered.
After hours of the ordeal, he managed to catch a moment of respite. He gazed through a grand window, surveying the sprawling city below. Sipping wine, he reminisced about his past. He has entered the Academy as a naive, 15 year old waif, barely knowing how to read, write and cast a few simple cantrips. Now, eight years later, he was a full-fledged wizard, member of the high society, master of the arcane and graduate of the most prestigious magic school in the known world. He has learned much during his time here, but not just in terms of knowledge. His interactions with classmates, his friends, as well as his involvement in the criminal underworld has allowed him to see the worst and best the humanity had to offer. Or at least so he thought.
Deamor had only precious few moments to celebrate his accomplishments though. It was finally time to pay back his debt. He would soon be joining the Imperial Army.
"But first, a few more hours of entertaining these stuck-up fools. Well, at least the wine is good." - Deamor mused as he rejoined the festivities.
/Uw Thanks for reading, tell me what you think! Sorry for the wait, the next chapter - "The Battle of Hjor's Ford" should be out pretty soon this time.
The story happens thousands of years in the past, so it's not really interactive.

2024.05.14 16:43 ebbandletgo [Routine Help] fading & healing scars - any tips?

hi! i have a few scars on my arms from cat wrangling, etc, about four to five months old. they're fairly flat but slightly shiny/textured and noticeably pigmented. i'm trying to get them to fade and blend in with the rest of my skin.
currently i'm using tretinoin and mederma scar gel. i have a tube of prescription .05% tretinoin cream left over from when i had terrible acne as a teen, so i apply that at night with a little aquaphor ointment on top. then in the morning i put on the mederma scar gel. its active ingredient is .05% allantoin. i then apply some sunscreen (spf 100) because i know tretinoin can cause sun sensitivity.
does anyone have any suggestions for my routine? i looked through this sub and saw most people were recommending silicone sheets over mederma, but those are even more expensive, and i'm afraid they wouldn't do anything now that the wounds are fully healed. i'm also not sure about the tretinoin, as it's at least two years out of date. will it still be effective? is it okay to use tretinoin with allantoin or will using both cause irritation/make things worse? i don't know that much about skincare, so any help is appreciated, lol

In a recent study, researchers have successfully fabricatedinterpenetrating biopolymer network (IPN) membranes from natural compounds, agarose and natural rubber latex, without the use of toxic cross-linking agents. This breakthrough technology offers a promising solution for the separation of molecular species in harsh organic media, benefiting various industries such as petrochemical, biorefining, paint, pharmaceutical, and food.
Key Features of the Biopolymer Membranes
The biopolymer membranes exhibit excellent solvent resistance and tunable molecular sieving, making them suitable for a wide range of applications. The membranes are biodegradable, ensuring an environmentally friendly end-of-life phase. The use of natural materials and water as a solvent during fabrication reduces the environmental impact of the production process. Additionally, the membranes demonstrate high mechanical strength, thermal stability, and resistance to fouling, making them suitable for long-term operation in harsh environments.
Fabrication and Characterization of the Membranes
The IPN membranes were fabricated by combining agarose and natural rubber latex through a self-assembly and self-cross-linking process. The morphology and chemical information of the membranes were characterized using various techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and nano-Fourier transform infrared (nano-FTIR) spectroscopy. The results revealed a textured dense microstructure with a water contact angle of 71° ± 1° and a roughness value of 138.75 nm. The membranes' surface chemistry was also analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), which showed a high concentration of hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, contributing to their hydrophilic nature.
Nanofiltration Performance and Biodegradability
The nanofiltration performance of the membranes was evaluated using a crossflow filtration system. The results showed a linear correlation between the pure solvent flux and the solubility parameter, indicating that the membranes can be used with optimum linear control over polar solvents. The membranes demonstrated long-term stability over 72 h of continuous crossflow nanofiltration at 20 bar. The biodegradability of the membranes was confirmed through enzymatic treatment, ensuring a sustainable end-of-life phase. The membranes' biodegradability was further evaluated using a soil burial test, which showed a significant reduction in membrane weight and molecular weight over a period of 6 months.
API Purification and Impurity Removal
The membranes were successfully used for the purification of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and the removal of a carcinogenic impurity. The results showed that the membranes can effectively remove impurities below the threshold of toxicological concern, making them suitable for pharmaceutical applications. The membranes' ability to remove impurities was further evaluated using a range of analytical techniques, including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS).
Scalability and Industrial Applications

Need Routine Help please
I have dry/combo skin. Also have these weird red spider veins in my cheeks. Starting to notice crows feet, and have hormonal acne on my chin. These are the products I have. (Already have face wash, spf, and moisturizers), I’m just needing some help working out a routine and figuring out which of these products I should be using and how. Thank you so much!
Honestly, the Sunday Riley products and the Lancôme Génifique are my favorites. Just not sure what goes together and really even what some of the active ingredients are.
Also, should I be using a toner? I have a bunch, but again….I feel like a lot of my products might be doing the same thing.

As the world shifts towards a more sustainable future, industries are under increasing pressure to adopt environmentally friendly technologies. One area that has seen significant advancements in recent years is the development of biopolymer membranes for organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN). In this blog post, we'll explore the benefits of biopolymer membranes, their applications, and the potential for scalability in industrial settings.
What are Biopolymer Membranes?
Biopolymer membranes are a type of membrane made from natural polymers, such as agarose and natural rubber latex. These membranes are fabricated using interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN), which provide excellent mechanical strength and stability. The use of natural materials and water as a solvent during fabrication reduces the environmental impact of the production process.
The Benefits of Biopolymer Membranes
Biopolymer membranes offer several advantages over traditional fossil-based polymer materials. Firstly, they are biodegradable, ensuring an environmentally friendly end-of-life phase. Additionally, they demonstrate high mechanical strength, thermal stability, and resistance to fouling, making them suitable for long-term operation in harsh environments.
Applications of Biopolymer Membranes
Biopolymer membranes have a wide range of applications across various industries. In the pharmaceutical industry, they can be used for the purification of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and the removal of carcinogenic impurities. In petrochemical and biorefining applications, they can be used for the separation of molecular species in harsh organic media.
Scalability and Industrial Applications
One of the key advantages of biopolymer membranes is their scalability. The fabrication process can be easily scaled up to meet the demands of industrial applications. In fact, pilot-scale studies have shown that biopolymer membranes can be fabricated on a large scale while maintaining their performance and properties.

2024.05.14 15:41 lambchopsuey "The 'five S's' of giving a good experience"

This analysis also comes from Cults and Nonconventional Religious Groups: A Collection of Outstanding Dissertations and Monographs, "Shakubuku: A Study of the Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist Movement in America, 1960-1975", David A. Snow, 1993, pp. 175-177 - it's a section within the analysis here about how the SGI's "discussion meetings" were carefully planned and choreographed sales pitch performances aimed at convincing any "guests" to convert. I thought this part about the carefully structured "experiences" deserved its own post:
In addition to the general supportive role, members are provided with instructions regarding the more specific role activity. That is, they are coached as to how to give explanations of what NSA [former name of SGI-USA] is all about, to lead songs, and to give testimonies. Regarding the latter, for example, members are reminded to respond to the emcee's request for experiences with great alacrity and enthusiasm by thrusting their hands in the air in a vigorous manner and yelling out "hi."
Actually, it's "Hai!", which means "Yes/Okay/I'll do it" in Japanese.
And if called upon, they are reminded to attend to the five major points or the "five S's" of giving a good experience.
That "coaching" is done before the live performance at the "discussion meeting", of course, not reminded within that performance context. That would break the illusion, as you can imagine.
The first point is Shakubuku. Remember, the guests have absolutely no understanding of this practice or any NSA terminology. Always talk to the guests and not to the members. The sole purpose of an experience is to make the guests curious enough to join ... Don't use Buddhist terms and names the guests won't understand...
Point number two is story. Make sure an experience is just that - something which happened to you and which you either changed into a benefit or changed an aspect of your life-condition through chanting. Basically , an experience should be structured as
(a) I had a problem or I was satisfied [sic] with my life and
That's obviously a typo; it should be either "I wasn't satisfied with my life" or "I was dissatisfied with my life", as confirmed by part (b):
(b) then I chanted, solved the problem or changed that aspect of my life which I wasn't satisfied with...
Make sure that you stress that chanting was the ingredient which changed those aspects of your life. Otherwise, the guests won't be able to connect just how chanting and a person's problems relate.
The third point to keep in mind is simplicity. Make each point of the story simple and to the point. Don't clutter the issue with unnecessary details. Try to be as brief as possible.
The fourth point is that of a seeking mind. What this means is that the person giving an experience should try to find out what type of experience the leader wants to have conveyed to the guests that will most benefit them.
Clearly, this is all about crafting the most persuasive sales pitch, not about honestly and authentically communicating anything real.
We're not saying that there is a "one" type of experience that is sought, but experiences have to be geared to the guests at the meeting. A middle-aged person is definitely going to have hard time relating to the change in values of a college student... The point is, make sure you are perceptive enough to give the type of experience which the guests at the meeting can relate to best.
Keeping in mind that no one knows for certain WHO these "guests" will be - this sort of "adjustment" in the details has to be made on the fly, which demonstrates the inauthenticity of the "experience" performance. But the culties are supposed to make it appear "authentic":
The final point is one of the most important - sincerity ... Even if your experience isn't that spectacular or full of content, the guests can relate to a person' [sic] sincere way of giving the experience...
The "5 S's" section is footnoted as coming from:
"The Five S's of Giving a Good Experience," World Tribune (September 11, 1974). Also, see the NSA Quarterly (Winter, 1975), p. 13; and the World Tribune (October 25, 1974).
It was obviously a structured thing that was explicitly taught (indoctrinated).
These five pointers on how to construct and give a "good" experience are mentioned repeatedly in the movement's literature and by its leaders. Furthermore, members can learn how to construct testimonies in accordance with these instructions by simply watching and listening to other members, and especially core converts, when giving their respective experiences.
You can probably surmise that after a while, these "experiences" will all start to show the same standardized structure; this will be accepted within the cult (because that's the goal), but the guests won't realize just how structured it is - and the focus on making it as manipulative as possible.
Indeed, rank-and-file members and new converts are often told to watch and listen to how so-and-so gives an experience.
That's true - I remember that.
It should thus come as no surprise that the testimonies given at these meetings, or wherever, are usually structured in accordance with the above pointers or instructions. And when they are not, the violators are usually pulled aside after the meeting and provided with corrective suggestions. At the end of several meetings, for example, I overheard the district chief reprimanding and re-instructing members regarding the unsuitable testimonies they had given earlier in the evening. This sanctioning and corrective work occurs not only when unsatisfactory testimonies are given but whenever meeting or movement-related roles are performed in an unsatisfactory manner and whenever members visibly engage in conduct that is inappropriate from the standpoint of NSA. During the San Diego Convention weekend, for example, I observed on several occasions members who were being brought back into line for engaging in unbecoming conduct, such as smoking grass on the bus while en route to the convention. That members who conduct themselves and perform their roles in an unsuitable and unconvincing manner are frequently pulled aside and provided with corrective guidance thus suggests a third consideration pointing to the highly orchestrated and theatrical character of discussion meetings in particular and of NSA in general.
Everyone must be "on" at all times; they must at all times display the SGI-defined image that SGI believes will impress the public and be most appealing to draw in potential new members.
While these specific "five S's" aren't around any more, there are still guidelines for how to give an "experience":
How do I write an experience for SGI budhist meeting?
State the difficulty you faced.
State how long you have been struggling with it, and how it affected you.
State what you did to resolve it, and how much you chanted.
State the resolution, and what that means to you.
Keep it to under 3.5 minutes.
Before you give your experience, read it to someone who cares about you, someone you know, and ask for an honest opinion on how your delivery is. from 7 years ago
REHEARSE it, in other words. These "experiences" are NOT spontaneous!

2024.05.14 15:33 multi-chain The Art of Assembly: Crafting PMPC25-PDPA70 Polymersomes

In the world of nanotechnology, the art of assembly is a delicate dance of molecules and reactions. It is a process that requires precision, patience, and a deep understanding of the intricate relationships between building blocks. In this essay, we will delve into the step-by-step process of crafting PMPC25-PDPA70 polymersomes, a complex nanostructure with unique properties.
The journey begins with the selection of two key ingredients: MPC (2-Methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) and DPA (Dopamine acrylamide). These molecules are the foundation upon which the polymersome is built, each with its own unique characteristics. MPC, with its water-loving head and water-repelling tail, provides a hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance that is essential for the polymersome’s structure. DPA, on the other hand, is the dopamine-inspired component that confers adhesive and reactive properties to the polymersome.
The next step is the linking of these molecules together in a chain, a process known as Atom-Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP). This sophisticated technique is akin to building a Lego structure with specific instructions, where each molecule is carefully added to the growing chain. The initiator molecule kicks off the chain-building process, while copper bromide and bipyridine act as catalysts, speeding up the reaction and ensuring its smooth progression.
As the reaction unfolds, the researchers carefully monitor its progress, using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to confirm that all the MPC has been incorporated into the growing chain. This is akin to taking a snapshot to see how the Lego structure is coming along, ensuring that each piece is in its correct place.
Once the MPC is used up, the researchers add more DPA to the mix, continuing the chain-building process and incorporating the dopamine-inspired component. The resulting mixture is then filtered through silica gel, removing impurities and leaving behind a pure solution. This solution is then subjected to dialysis, a process that removes smaller molecules, and finally, freeze-dried to produce a fluffy powder of PMPC25-PDPA70 polymer.
But the journey is not yet complete. The researchers must still verify the quality of the polymer, using techniques such as Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) to separate the polymer chains by size. This analysis is akin to running a race, where smaller chains move faster, while larger chains lag behind. The results confirm the polymer’s characteristics, ensuring that it meets the required standards.
The final step is the creation of the polymersomes themselves, a process known as self-assembly. The polymer powder is dissolved, spread into a thin film, and then rehydrated to form tiny, bubble-like structures called polymersomes. Alternatively, the polymer can be dissolved in acidic conditions, and then the pH slowly raised, triggering the polymer molecules to self-assemble into polymersomes.
In the end, the art of assembly is a testament to human ingenuity and the power of science. By carefully crafting each step, the have created a complex nanostructure with unique properties, a true marvel of modern technology.researchers

2024.05.14 15:12 JustAMicrowav1n Explaining Fuga/Kamino with MAXIMUM simplicity for the reading comprehension curse victims

Explaining Fuga/Kamino with MAXIMUM simplicity for the reading comprehension curse victims

1. What is "Kamino"?

Kamino, or Divine Flame, or Furnace, or as the community used to call it "Fuga", is one of Sukuna's attacks! It is a fire attack that has a lot, a LOT of firepower, meaning that it is very strong and it makes things burn!
But it has a problem! It is slow, and has small range! Oh no, whatever will Sukuna do?

2. What do Cleave and Dismantle have to do with this?

Now, kids, when you watch someone cook food, what do they do? They cut the ingredients, and then heat it up.
Kamino is the same! Sukuna can only "heat up" the ingredients (in this case, people) after he cuts (used cleave and dismantle) on them! Pretty bonkers, right?!

3. What is up with the "Binding Vow"? Is this an asspull?

Now, now. First, lets understand what this self-imposed binding vow is at its nature. It is sacrificing one thing in exchange for another for yourself. Nanami restricted his output in his day shifts in exchange for being stronger when he works overtime. Hakari used a vow to sacrifice his arm in exchange for reinforcing the rest of his body well enough to counter the explosion in his fight against Kashemo. This is also the case with the World Cutting Dismantle, which was used once with no chants against Gojo, in exchange for always requiring hand signs, chants and 3 arms to execute afterwards.
Kamino, as I said, is a slow attack. And what can others do to your attack if it is slow? They can dodge it!
Now, Sukuna doesnt want others to dodge his attacks, right? This is why he imposed a binding vow on himself. His sacrifice was that OUTSIDE his domain, Kamino can ONLY be used against ONE target.
Let's go over it once again. This does NOT mean that Sukuna cannot use Kamino outside of his domain. It only means that the Kamino is still slow and low-range, and can only work against ONE target. This was how Sukuna used Kamino against Jogo!
Now, what did he gain in exchange for his sacrifice?
In exchange, Kamino becomes immensely more powerful while INSIDE the domain!

4. How does the Kamino "Bomb" work?!

Here is a step-by-step guide on how Kamino works inside malevolent shrine.
  1. Malevolent Shrine cuts everything into pieces, and there's a LOT of dust formed
  2. Kamino ability activation
  3. The dust, caused by the MS cutting everything, gets covered with Explosive cursed energy.
  4. The Barrier of the Domain closes, sealing everything inside
  5. The flame arrow ignites the explosive cursed energy, which at this point, is almost everywhere. BOOM!!!!!
The explosion itself is very, very strong! Because of the detonation, the shockwaves, the heat, and the fact that everything is sealed in one sphere, this is considered Sukuna's ultimate attack! This is how Mahoraga was killed in Shibuya!

5. If this attack is so good, why didn't Sukuna use it against Gojo? Is he stupid?

Sukuna didn't use out-of-domain Kamino because it has a relatively long windup/chargeup (Gojo would outspeed it) and it would get blocked by infinity even if it hit.
Even without infinity, Gojo would just dodge it, since he's the fastest sorcerer.
Sukuna couldn't use in-domain Kamino because he was constantly changing his domain conditions, as stated by the narrator in 259

6. How did Maki get teleported out of Kamino? Is this an inconsistency?!?!

Because Miwa was with her and held on to her, as Todo teleported Miwa out. Miwa was with her in 258 so she could protect Maki from MS through her simple domain. Maki is considered an object by techniques (and Naoya), so when Miwa was holding onto her, to Boogie Woogie, it was the same as if she were an item of clothing. And since those get teleported, Maki got teleported too.

7. How did Yuji survive?

There's no confirmed answers yet, but the popular headcanon is that Choso sacrificed himself in a binding vow to make a blood barrier strong enough to protect Yuji. Knowing that self-sacrificial binding vows are incredibly powerful, this was most likely the case in order for Yuji to survive an attack like Kamino
Next time use Domain Amplification while reading so you don't get affected by the reading comprehension cursed technique!

2024.05.14 14:34 Far_Pay_7388 Kitchen Job Advice

I was hired by a 3 Michelin Star restaurant as a Commis Chef (prep cook) and relocated across the country to do so. I've been here 7 months and it's been mostly hell. I've been screamed at in front of the whole kitchen by management, berated by other cooks, bullies, has things physically thrown onto my cutting board, been threatened with termination and more. I was supposed to get a relocation compensation, but HR said it was a "miscommunication". I'm treated like an idiot and all I do is measure ingredients and pick flowers.
I've had 3 work injuries since starting because I'm rushed to go fast in an unsafe way. Most recently I got Covid after management told a symptomatic, Covid positive employee to take his mask off because he thought they were faking. I sent HR a complaint and have been ignored. Every day is just one big anxiety attack and I'm missing work to the point it's hurting my reputation. Every kitchen I've interviewed with around here has only negative things to say about the restaurant and how they treat employees.
I recently was offered a job at another high end restaurant without any stars but with multiple James Beard Awards attached to it. I'd get more experience working on the line in a fast paced but high caliber environment. During my working interview I felt happier than almost any day I've been here and the people seem nicer and helpful. The restaurant itself is not as clean, but my current job actively hides violations from the health department. I asked my old mentor for advice and he recommended staying for a year, but even the thought of that scares me. I'm becoming a meaner more bitter person and I don't want to become that.
I came here to work at this restaurant and I don't want to deal with the bullshit anymore, but I don't want to fail the people who believe in me back home or view myself as a failure for leaving after 7 months. I know not all cooks have the opportunity to work at a 3 star restaurant and don't want to squander the opportunity, but at this point in my culinary career I have more experience picking flowers than working on the line and I feel it's a big gap in my education that this new job could fill and I'd feel better mentally as well. I don't want to make the wrong decision and any advice is greatly appreciated.
