Mild fever, headache, sore throat, loss of appetite

Are certain ulcer symptoms, such as dark stools, dangerous/in need of emergency?

2024.05.16 01:49 Valuable-Profile-704 Are certain ulcer symptoms, such as dark stools, dangerous/in need of emergency?

For the last week I have been having these horrible stomach pains/burning sensations, loss of appetite, sometimes my throat refuses to swallow food.
Whenever I drink omeprazole 40mg 30 mins before eating, the pain instantly goes away. If I eat without it, I get really bad tummy pains.
My stool is sometimes very dark, sometimes brown to yellowish brown. My recent one was very dark and I am beginning to worry if I am internally bleeding. Apart from omeprazole, I am taking duspatalin, vitamin A, D and Iron.
Please let me know if my dark stools are ok and I shouldn’t go to ER.

2024.05.16 01:38 Jay_Dog93 Sleep Apnea? Reservist here

I am a reservist and was on active duty orders for 6 months from Feb-Aug 2018. During this time I worked an irregular work schedule (8 hour shifts, morning, afternoon and graveyard shifts, swapping shifts every 2 weeks with no recovery days). Because of this rotating shift work/irregular work schedule, I developed several sleep issues (waking up multiple times, cant get to sleep, dry mouth, sore throat, headaches from sleeping). I did NOT go to the doctors office when i was on orders so its all in my civ medical records. I was diagnosed by a civilian doctor with Moderate OSA and prescribed a CPAP. Im concerned the VA will not consider it service connected since it was diagnosed long after and i am reserve. I have 3 letters from people who were on shift work, 1 of which also has OSA. I'm also going to include studies regarding irregular work schedules and OSA.
What are my chances here?

2024.05.16 01:31 Silent_Usual_5491 14 Days Post Op : Low grade fever

Hi everyone, I had two in one tonsillectomy + removal of my retained wisdom tooth root 2 weeks ago. My recovery journey so far has been quite smooth and not as bad as I thought. My doc prescribed me with strong antibiotic for a week and some strong pain killers. It helped a lot, until I completed the course and stop the pain killer last weekend. Then I developed persistent low grade fever around 37.5-38 deg since Monday. Temperature slightly raised when I’m active and going back to 37.5 when I rest. Didn’t take any painkillers til now because other than the low grade fever, bareable sore throat from tonsillectomy, i feel fine with normal energy level. Anybody with similar experience?

2024.05.16 01:17 WhatThaHeckBrah Hydronephrosis and stones for months. Little pain. Any sympathizers?

A few months back I had severe pain at work. I think this was a stone and it passed in a few hours. I started running fever and thought I was going to vomit. I peed and my member felt like it was on fire but after that it got better. Over the next couple months I was sore and in the past month or so I’ve had pain on and off but it’s been very mild pain. I scheduled a Drs appointment with my gp and urology. My gp ordered an ultrasound and my urologist ordered a ct. the ultrasound came back with moderate hydronephrosis and kidney stones (size and qty weren’t listed - both stones and hydronephrosis were in my left kidney). Has anyone experienced this length of time with stones with only moderate pain and hydronephrosis? I have my CT getting scheduled now so I’m waiting on that. It just seems like odd symptoms to me.
Thanks

2024.05.16 00:50 glebbwy Mold in home, health issues, and mold inspection results

Hello mold subreddit. First time reddit poster here. Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer to my case. In what follows, I'm going to first describe the health journey that led to my mold discoveries and questions, so please bear with me through the health stuff. I have included excessive detail in the hopes that my case might help others navigate possible mold problems.
If you don't feel like reading all the below, the tl:dr version: After struggling with unknown health issues for 15 months, I eventually linked my symptoms to my new home and subsequently discovered very high volatile organic chemical levels. I linked the VOCs to mold. I also had a mold inspection done, and the results are at the bottom of this post. The levels of mold were high in my kitchen and bathroom. However, oddly, the mold levels in the outside control group were much higher than inside. Can anyone help me understand how high my indoor mold levels are? Does anyone know whether the outdoor levels are reasonably normal? Is my specific blend of mold types implicated in neurological symptoms for others? And if anyone has dealt with mold before, do my possible mold symptoms described below seem similar to ones that you've had?
I bought my townhome in late 2022. Within four months, I started having new neurological symptoms. These symptoms started with a postural tremor in my left index finger and thumb. The same hand eventually began to appear smaller and shriveled, especially around my thumb. I also started having extremely frequent muscle twitches and jerks. These twitches take three general forms:
  1. The most common is an odd sensation of something wiggling under my skin. These primarily happen in my face, around my mouth, my butt/legs, and ribs.
  2. A pulsing regular beat in a muscle that lasts for several seconds and in some cases longer. These usually happen near joints, especially just above my elbows and knees. These are almost always visible to the naked eye.
  3. A sensation of rapid vibrating underneath the skin that lasts briefly. These vibrations are usually not visible but you can feel them if you press a hand over the area.
The twitches and apparent change to my hand have lasted for 16 months. At this point, the tissue loss in my thumb is also apparent in my forearm and upper left arm. My leg on the same side arm appears different and feels as if it has lost some muscle. I also have frequent trembling with specific muscles when I flex them. For example, sometimes when I try to hold a smile my face muscles will shake or give out. My neck tissues are especially liable to shake and vibrate when flexed, such as when doing tasks like flossing where I need to hold my lips back. On a few separate occasions, I have felt slight paralysis on one side of my face for an evening or so that then mysteriously goes away.
Aside from these neurological symptoms, I also have had frequent hoarseness, sneezing, jaw pain, and headaches. My joints often feel like they are more bony and poppy, especially in my left knee and knuckles. In addition, I've had a lot of issues with one ear on the same side as the shriveled hand. The ear had an apparent infection or cloudiness 12 months ago that went away, it then had recurrent pulsatile tinnitus, and now it just occasionally hurts at random times. There have been many other symptoms.
I have seen two neurologists, an endocrinologist, an ear-nose-throat doctor, and an orthopedic doctor. I've had countless tests done including two electromyographies (EMGs) over my whole body several months apart, an MRI, and a lyme disease blood panel. Every test has been normal, although the orthopedic doctor suggested possible thoracic outlet syndrome. The neurologist said my nerves are quite robust. My borrelia blood panel came back negative, although as a side note I did have a tick bite in early 2022 that caused a rash. I was treated for Lyme with 10 days of doxycycline. The tick bite itself still occasionally flares up red and its timing might be correlated with my symptoms.
Back to the house-- I was on a two week vacation out of state and noticed my twitches go away. Then I saw my arm become more normal sized again and the veins start to come back. I didn't feel the same joint issues, had no hoarseness, lost the headaches. All the symptoms came back as soon as I returned home, but nevertheless after that vacation and subsequent extended trips, I was able to conclude with a reasonable level of confidence that these symptoms are linked to the house. I bought an air filter and an air quality monitor that shows volatile organic chemicals, PM, formaldehyde, and C02.
Using the air quality monitor, I discovered that volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and formaldehyde were usually abnormally high and sometimes extremely high. VOCs are usually above safety thresholds at >0.5 mg/m3 and formaldehyde >0.1 mg/m3. Sometimes, the VOC levels will stay consistently above 1.8mg/m3. I witnessed them reach a peak level of 5mg/3 in one bedroom late at night when I was woken up by a feeling of shortness of breath. I tried but failed to correlate these high VOCs to electronics, chemical sources in the home, cooking sources, heaters, and cleaning supplies. The way the VOCs would spike all over the house for no apparent reason in the evening helped me rule out some of these other possibilities. I also actively removed other sources.
Eventually, I realized that the VOCs were likely caused by mold, so-called microbial VOCs. The formaldehyde could also be explained by mold. The levels of VOCs would spike on rainy days, when the humidity was high inside, and in the evening. I don't think any other chemical source near the house would display this pattern. It took me a while to reach this conclusion because the mold issue in my house isn't too obvious. The house has always had a slight musty smell, especially if the air is stagnant for a while. The bathroom also has recurring mold growth on a tiles, in the shower, and on the various shower liners. A couple cabinets in the kitchen have always smelled musty. I didn't think these obvious signs of mold growth were that big of a deal, but given the extremely high levels of VOCs I now believe the mold has always been the issue.
Once I realized it was likely mold, I started noticing all the signs. The house is about 100 years old. The prior two owners of this house each moved out within five months. The house is not ventilated except from windows. It sits in a damp area near where water puddles up in the yard. It's mostly solid brick, so the house frame has a way of trapping hot air and releasing a lot of moisture onto the floors each evening. There's also a cheap layer of vinyl flooring throughout that could easily cover up a massive mold problem underneath. Finally, the townhome sits on top of an old shared crawl space that was used as a furnace. It has had known water puddling issues for which reason a vapor guard was installed underneath my first floor.
So, I had a mold inspection done. The results are at the bottom of this post. The bathroom results might be diluted because I left the window open the night before. Nevertheless, both my kitchen and bathroom had mold detected at levels between 6480 - 12,300 spores/m3. Oddly, the outdoor levels of all of the molds were often much higher, 3-6 fold higher than the levels indoors. It was a humid day, but it still seems odd for me that an outdoor space could have higher levels than indoors.
On later reading about my specific mold spores and neurological symptoms, I noticed that the two most elevated groups of spores in my house, ascospores and basidiospores, are the same class as all of the funguses known to have colonized the nervous system of ALS patients according to this published article. Those specific types of fungus found in the nerves of ALS patients are Candida, Malassezia, Fusarium, Botrytis, Trichoderma, and Cryptococcus. It naturally led me to wonder if my chronic als-type neurological symptoms could be caused by some latent fungal infection in my body that gradually improves when I'm away from the home.
Wrapping up this thread, I have a bunch of questions.

2024.05.16 00:49 FlightAttendant0619 Hand Foot & Mouth Adult Timeline

My 14 month old started showing symptoms of HFMD on Thursday. She had one bad day/night & has been nearly normal since then, minus the spots & some fussiness like any sickness.
Here’s my timeline for anyone else who catches it from their kiddo - I know seeing timelines helped me!
DAY 1: Woke up Saturday with the worst chills. I couldn’t shake them even with the hottest bath water possible. Obvious fever. Stomach pain & nausea too. I could not miss work so I took three 500mg Tylenol to knock out my symptoms until I could come home. Sore throat as well. My husband saw red spots & white spots on my tonsils
DAY 2: Sore throat was at its worst. I thought I had strep with the way my tonsils looked covered in white. Urgent care said negative for strep but the red spots were starting so it was definitely HFMD. Had some light itching & feelings of tightness begin.
DAY 3: Spots got much worse & started being more of a bother with itchiness & some feelings of burning. Sore throat was lingering but not as bad. Sores started appearing on my tongue so it was still difficult to eat & drink.
DAY 4: Spots on my hands & feet turned to blisters. I couldn’t pick anything up or walk without pain. I was bedridden for the day. It felt like I had burns. My nose and face also started to get blisters. These were so thin that every time i brushed against them, the skin broke & they spread more. Thankfully my throat & tongue were mostly without pain.
DAY 5: Pain is subsiding. The spots still look intense & the blisters are more at the surface so i’m sure some will eventually burst. It’s not comfortable to walk or pick things up but much more manageable. My nose looks horrible but I’m just trying not to touch it so it’ll heal.
I will post updates as this goes on. It’s been awful but it’s hard to say that when I also remember how bad labor felt & it still doesn’t compare. 🤣

2024.05.15 23:52 WizarDProdigy Losing A Half Of Me - Day 14

Oh snap. It's been 2 weeks. This will be very short and sweet as I mostly chilled today. I ate healthy with some yummy toast and grape tomatoes. Not too much of an appetite but I will make some eggs at some point. My day was mostly me playing Destiny 2 and chilling. My calves are sore from walking so I thought it would be best not to push it. I don't want my body to be damaged to the point where I can't exercise as much as I want to. I'm proud of that decision. I'm proud of myself.
I had a neurologist appointment today. It was a yearly checkup for my epilepsy. I haven't mentioned that yet I believe. Overall, I am better and have been seizure free for a while. I will touch more upon this when I am ready. Thank you for understanding. At the appointment I brought up one thing. Something terrifying to me: hair loss. I think one of my meds has explained why my hair has not grown in the past 8 years and now is finally starting to thin so much. I know male pattern baldness is a thing but it started around the same time. Either way I am going to fight this. My doctor said to get zinc and selenium. Along with topical minoxidil. I am also going to look into new shampoo and conditioners. I love hair and it scares me to lose it. I will try.
I am going to end today in order to do some other stuff. If anyone has any hair tips, then please comment. see you next time my conjurers of the stimulated follicles.

2024.05.15 23:17 speedyspaghetti I can't seem to get over this sickness / fatigue

Hey everyone -
Thank you in advance for any help / suggestions you might be able to offer. I’ve been struggling with some annoying symptoms the past few months and I’m hoping that someone might be able to provide some insight / reassurance.
So, basics: 31 y/o white male, exercise 7-10 hours a week (cycling primarily), 145 lbs, 5’9, I eat a balanced diet, lots of fruits, vegetables, limited red meat, lean protein, etc. Mediterranean diet essentially. No drinking, no smoking. I am generally rather healthy - I typically get one, maybe two, colds a year. I’m a teacher, so I’m exposed to quite a bit of germs / viruses, but I generally take care of myself enough to avoid most of it. I sleep probably about 7 hours a night on average - could definitely bump that up, but never less than 6 hours and typically 7.5+. I got the Pfizer vaccine back in 2021, booster in early 2022. Admittedly, I haven’t had a booster since, nor do I usually get a flu shot. I plan on rectifying both of those this year.
This year, I have just gotten absolutely decimated with sicknesses and it is really starting to wear on my mental health. It has kept me from exercising as much as I’d like, which, in turn, has made me more and more depressed and frustrated.
Rough timeline: Mid-December 2023: Mild cold which lasted for about 5 days. Usual stuff, congestion, sore throat, general malaise and stuffiness. Cleared pretty quickly, took 4 days off from exercise, biked on the 5th day and felt fine. Energy bounced back within a few days.
Late January 2024: Similar cold symptoms come on, I take 2 days off from exercise, thought I felt better, exercised on the 3rd and 4th day, probably overdid it and ended up relapsing pretty hard. Had to take another 6 days completely off, was able to exercise again on the 7th day but felt pretty weak. Took it easy for 3 days before I started feeling strong again.
Late February 2024: Went to Peru for a friend’s wedding - at the airport on the way home I started feeling chills all over and my stomach was just absolutely killing me. The flight home was miserable, as you could imagine. Went to urgent care, they prescribed some stuff for the stomach pain, which seemed to work. I only took 1 day off from exercise, resumed exercise the following day and actually felt completely normal strength / energy wise. Only strange lingering thing was that after this bout of whatever, I would frequently get goosebumps every time I changed clothes, regardless of how cold it really was. Felt fine otherwise, no chills, just weird goosebumps which would go away within a minute or so of changing.
Early April 2024: Came down with symptoms again - same as usual: sore throat, head cold / congestion, general malaise, low energy. Symptoms came on a Sunday night, felt pretty terrible Monday morning. I had an important cycling race that following Saturday, so I tried to recover for that. Slept a bunch, drank a bunch of water, DayQuil during the day which seemed to help. I tried going for easy rides twice that week - once on Tuesday, once on Thursday. Both times, I felt ok with regards to my breathing / congestion, but my muscles felt really weak. Legs just had no power. I felt relatively ok on Friday driving down to the race, felt absolutely terrible during the race on Satuday and ended up dropping out. Took Sunday completely off, took a COVID test to be safe, came back negative, starting riding again that next Monday and felt surprisingly ok - figured I was out of the woods. Rode that whole week, felt good, not great. That Sunday, I start feeling off again, symptoms come back on Monday. I take 2 days completely off, try riding again and I just have no energy whatsoever. Muscles feel so weak and achey. I take 4 more days completely off, start riding again next week and take it really, really easy to work my way back into it. I contact my doctor and the PA that works for him thinks it is allergies - he says to take a double-dose of antihistamines daily and that he thinks that is what is causing the symptoms + the fatigue. I try this for a week with little improvement to my energy levels / muscle strength. Still feeling congested at this point. I go back to him a week later, he orders some blood tests - everything comes back in the normal range. Only thing outside the normal range is WBC count which is at 3.9 where the low level of normal is 4.0, so pretty close to normal. Symptoms persist, so I go back, now he thinks it might be a sinus infection - he does inspect my sinuses and says they look inflamed. He prescribes antibiotics (amox) which I have taken for a week now. Congestion / sore throat is improved, but I still have absolutely no energy and my muscles, especially my calf muscles, are just constantly achey / sore / weak. He said if I don’t see improvement in another week, he’ll order more tests, but I’m getting really frustrated and disheartened at this point. I’m able to ride, but I just feel so weak when I’m doing it and I don’t think I’m actually benefiting at all from the training, although I do enjoy just being outside.
I have never gotten this sick, this often. I feel like I cannot do the things that make me happy, which, in turn, makes my mental health worse, which probably is also wearing on my physical health. What else could this possibly be?

2024.05.15 23:15 FarGur3089 Is this flu, covid, or cold?

Hi, I currently have a random assortment of symptoms and can’t figure out what it is… I have congestion that is milder than a typical cold, an incessantly sore throat, a constant headache, body aches, one day of fever, sleeping no less than 14 hours a day, very mild shortness of breath. This has lasted over a week now. It feels like a lite-version of combined cold, flu, and covid.

2024.05.15 22:47 emmyinrecovery When does it stop hurting

I’m on day 13 of being symptomatic, and on day like 5 of the worst, most painful sore throat situation I’ve ever experienced. I’m not sure I’ve ever been in this much pain in my whole life. My throat is so swollen with like huge white patches on it. I can’t talk, I can’t eat, it takes painful, cartoonish effort to even swallow a sip of water. I can’t even sleep at night the pain is so bad. I haven’t slept at ALL in two days and a couple days ago i was prescribed prednisone for my throat, but it isn’t helping yet, it’s still just getting worse and more painful. Not even trying to be dramatic but I don’t even want to watch tv anymore. All I do is sit in silence and on again off again cry while i sip on water. Is it supposed to be this bad, has anyone else has prednisone for this? When does it start helping? I’m losing my mind. I can handle the fevers and body aches and inability to do anything. I cant handle this sore throat thing. Please please give advice and recommendations because i’m exhausted and so hungry and can’t handle this pain!!! It’s bad enough that as a serious nicotine addict of many years, I haven’t touched a vape or a cigarette in over a week. Idek if I can emphasize how big of a deal for me that is. This really hurts. Advice pls

More information from her:
"looking for someone familiar with a specific strain of bacteria or parasite.
Ok started with sore throat Thursday then headache body ache 101.4-102.4 fever Saturday night. SUnday began diarrhea and same range of fever all day.
Monday same symptoms but range of fever was 101.4-102.8. Cramps in upper stomach and vomiting began. Fever came down to 99.9 at midnight on Tuesday but then at 6 am temperature dropped to 95.5 and vomiting and diarrhea became more frequent. 20 minutes later at hospital temp increased rapidly to 103.3 and heart rate to 130. Diarrhea became bright green and VERY frequent. Fluids administered, doctors determined it's not sepsis, Covid, flu, or strep. So far have no concrete answers. 2024.05.15 22:41 ravenvibe A sliver of molar came out through my inside gum

I am a non-smoker, wisdom teeth extracted. No history of cavities.
For 3-4 weeks I have had localized pain by my bottom right back molar, on the inside. The inside gum is swollen. I could feel something sharp for many days when pressing my tongue in the area and then a few days ago, a small sliver of what only could be a tooth came out.
This temporarily relieved the pain. The pain is specific to just that one spot. A few days later, I once again felt a sharp piece of what I assume is tooth in the same spot. I also started experiencing a mild sore throat on the same side.
Today, my tongue cannot feel the sharp tooth at all. I can still feel a pinpoint hole, but maybe it's closing? The pain when pressing on the spot is also less today.
Any ideas? I'll go to a dentist but I do not have dental insurance so trying to prepare myself for a potentially large bill.

Serious question.
19m
5 days ago I had fever and couldnt get out of bed. I took medication and 3 days later I was physically fine. But, I still suffer from headaches (especially when I bend) dry nose, painful throat and coughing). 4 days ago I trimmed my nose hair (hair free now) Could this lead to a meningitis? Im physically fine, but still coughing, throat pain, dry nose.
Edit: I also stay away from brightness

2024.05.15 22:15 beaveman1 Truck Throwers - How Do You Recover?

Part time truck thrower here. I usually do other stuff around the store and only throw the truck once, maybe twice a week. When the regular thrower is off, I have to do it 4-5 times a week. Day 1 is always fine. Day 2, I’m a little sore afterwards. Day 3 and anything beyond, I feel like absolute crap on my day off. Zero energy. Dull muscle pain all over. Lack of appetite. It almost feels like a minor case of the flu without the fever. I can’t motivate myself to do anything on my day off because I don’t feel like myself. I take Aleve and Tylenol a couple of times a day, sometimes starting on Day 2 and continuing at least 2-3 days after my last truck.
Any suggestions? How do you manage while throwing anything more than 1 or 2 trucks a week?

2024.05.15 22:08 Old_Construction_216 Preparing for colonoscopy

TLDR: should I eat triggering foods before colonoscopy or stay low fodmap?
So I’ve never had gut issues my whole life. Except last year I developed a sensitivity to chillies and jalapeños and everything in that family. Which was a huge disappointment as my ethnicity eats chilli like its candy. But anyway, what can you do. That was fine until in November I got sick with flu, fever, sore throat and diarrhea (maybe Covid? Idk). The issue is, the diarrhea never went away. Saw a doctor in January. He first thought my gut is sensitive from an infection. Ordered blood tests and stool test. Everything was fine. Calprotectin was 274. Which he thought isn’t high enough to rush for a colonoscopy. He said wait to see if symptoms get better. They sort of kind of did. Very gradually though. Still had persistent diarrhea but i knew what time it would happen in the day. I was scared of the colonoscopy so kept praying it just goes away on its own.
Then idk what happened. I woke up one day in April with no diarrhea. No symptoms. Nothing. I was so surprised. I was fine for about 5-6 weeks from then on. Idk how. I thought it was a miracle because I was eating spicy food full almost every day when I got better. I was SO happy. Then end of last month one day I had the most horrible painful watery diarrhea. Even though I hadn’t eaten spicy food or anything different for at least 5 days before this episode. The diarrhea didn’t go away till about two days ago. Saw the doctor again. He prescribed an anti spasm which I’ve been taking for the last two weeks. So pain is down 70%. I’ve also been on a strict fodmap for the last two weeks. It didn’t seem to help in the beginning but since the last two days I’ve been feeling good. No diarrhea after so long. No painful cramps, no bloating or gas. My life feels pretty boring on low fodmap but my bowel movements since the last two days have been good.
But anyway, i have a colonoscopy scheduled after two weeks. My question is, should I continue eating low fodmap or should I eat everything so that during the colonoscopy my insides are at their worst to show a fuller picture? Idk what would be better diagnosis wise

Already eating so much less! Week 1 Results - 0.25 milligrams
F 5’5” SW: 166 CW: 164 GW: 130-140
I’m in the airport and stopped for lunch at TGI Friday’s for a cheese burger and this is all I could stomach. I usually would get a bacon cheeseburger but the idea of bacon gave my stomach the ick.
I’m currently on the first dose and finished my first week. I’m a bit floored at how much my appetite has been suppressed I’m really forcing myself to eat around 1200 +- calories daily. I can’t say I’ve noticed weight loss yet as I constantly fluctuate between 2-5 pounds. Food noise is way down. I think about it and it’s easy to say no. I get full super fast and the fullness feels like if I eat more I’ll be sick.
First day I had nausea and a headache. After day two no headache or nausea. Zofran helped as did upping my water intake and taking some electrolytes. I had some breakthrough bleeding, which was weird and hopefully doesn’t happen again. I use oral bc to skip usually.
I’ve never had a horrible relationship with food or been a binge eater so I’m surprised how drastically different I felt even day 1 on such a low dose. I have chronic high cholesterol (which I had at 20+ pounds lighter and is likely genetic), have hashimotos (16 years since diagnosis & been gluten free 12 years), and have had stubborn insulin resistance for a while now. I was able to stop some rapid weight gain that happened over a year 145-170 but haven’t had any significant luck in losing it even though I changed my diet and increased my exercise. I struggled to only eat 1500 calories when I was tried to do a deficit for several months with no results. I also have had high inflammation markers.
Hopeful that I’ll be able to take control of my body again and see effort from my work!

2024.05.15 21:40 jimmyuptheroad Sickness from fiberglass?

I have been doing insulation work for about two years, primarily insulating ductwork with fiberglass duct wrap. During this time, I have consistently fallen very sick every 6-8 weeks, experiencing symptoms such as a sore throat, stuffy nose, occasional fever, body aches, and chills. No medication seems to help.
I was concerned that I might have a serious health issue, possibly a disease, However, my doctor recently asked if I wear a mask at work, suggesting that the insulation might be making me sick. Do other people in this line of work wear masks or have similar experiences of getting very sick if they don't wear a mask? None of my coworkers wear masks, and they don't seem to have any issues.

2024.05.15 21:34 Total-Imagination-62 Being healthy for surgery

My surgery is the day after tomorrow. I payed full price and done all the tests. And last week I was feeling healthy like 10/10. This week I have a feeling the universe is against me. I‘ve got a pretty stressful work week with a lot of meetings and taking, and now I have sore throat and mild flu symptoms. I test negative for Covid. Today my period started, I feel low on energy and like my immune system is collapsing. I‘ve got lip herpes after a long time not having it… And my 3 year old daughter got stomach flu today. I was wiping her vomit the whole day long. After such activities I usually get what she has 1-2 days later… Two days later is the day of surgery. Will they perform the surgery on me if I have stomach flu?

2024.05.15 21:23 lefeiski Already better after 3 days?

Started coughing last Sunday night but did not think too much of it as I was still recovering from a cold. On monday morning, my son started to get a high fever (40°C, don‘t know how much that is in °F) so we took him to the hospital where he tested positive for Influenza A. When we got home, my wife and I were also knocked out by high fever (39°C+). We are on day 3 and the fever seems to be gone for now. Of course there are still symptoms like coughing and sore throat but overall we are much better. Could this actually be? I always thought that influenza will knock you out for at least a week.

2024.05.15 21:10 RunsoncoffEE_ Rash - 7 yo Daughter

My daughter is 7 yo, she’s 47” tall and weighs around 47 lbs. she has a history of asthma, and seasonal allergies. Currently she’s taking Flovent (2 puffs once daily), Flonase and prn Zyrtec.
A little back story on her. Shes has instances of random bouts of hives (often with no discernible cause.) Her last bout of hives, she had a plain turkey sandwich with just mayo and turkey from a local sandwich shop. 30 mins later, she was complaining of joint and tummy pain. I had her relax on the couch and 30 mins after that when I took her to bed, she had full body hives and a swollen face/mouth. She ended up vomiting once and it was a large amount. It took to doses of Benadryl to calm the hives. She also later reported that during this episode she had chest tightness and a scratchy throat. We were told this was a mild anaphylactic reaction.
Fast forward to present day. Sunday she had scrambled eggs for breakfast and 20 mins later she told me she was itchy and was started to break out in hives. Gave her Benadryl and hives went away and she was fine. The next morning she woke up with another head to toe itchy rash. I got in touch with her allergist and she told me to give her 10mg of Zyrtec morning and night and to update her the following morning. Yesterday she still had the rash and was complaining of joint pain in her knee and ankle. She was sent home from school because she was limping. Her allergist wanted to see her in person. We took her in yesterday and she said the rash definitely looked like hives but she’s perplexed as to what is going on with her. She has no other symptoms (no signs of illness, no fever). Shes thinking serum sickness but she doesn’t totally fit that picture. She told us she wanted to do some research and would get back to us today, but to continue the Zyrtec. My daughter woke up this morning with a worsening rash and was much more itchy today.
We’ve literally changed nothing about her diet or laundry detergent or skin/hair products. Also no new medications. She’s been tested for environmental allergies and was positive for a certain tree and rabbits. Neither of her 2 allergists that she’s seen have felt compelled to food test or any other blood tests. I’d love some other opinions! Here is a photo of her back rash. It’s also located on her face, neck, chest, and some on her legs
