2021.09.16 01:06 doorcoat Honestly not sure how to proceed

I am an experienced primary teacher, previously had outstanding and good.
I have just started a new job teaching KS3 science, really didn't think I'd get the job, I haven't got a science degree and know little beyond KS2 science.
There is no planning in place, no HoD, nobody at school I can turn to. Besides, I feel embarrassed and like an imposter. For the past two weeks I've been looking online for plans, sow, lesson ideas and resources. TES, STEM and Bitesize are keeping my head above water.
My biggest concern is that I'm failing my students.
I feel it's just a matter of time before my lack of subject knowledge is noticed, especially when I need to teach physics. I'm not sleeping, constantly anxious and am avoiding colleagues in case they ask a science question.
The school is lovely, staff are nice with strong leadership. I'd really like to work there, but in another role.
Should I resign?

2021.01.23 14:12 bedlam_styx Can anyone recommend KS3 appropriate programmes?

Once upon a time in a land far, far away we had programmes for schools...
BBC Bitesize is great, but it is just that - bitesize. I’m looking for documentary-type programmes that will help my kids understand the lessons they’re being set.
Geography is pretty easy, but finding something decent on late Georgian life? Not so much. Horrible Histories are always good, but they’re aimed at KS2. My daughter needs to know things like how much sailors got paid, how normal people dressed - not the ladies of the court. Then we’ll be looking at the Edwardians. Not a lot on them, either.
We also need really need science stuff.
I once found a channel on YouTube who showed all the old 1980s primary school tv shows. I couldn’t believe how good they were. The kids learned loads because it made it real for them. Time Team was also really good, but finding the exact episodes out 15 series for the right time in history is a royal pain.
Are there any programmes/websites anyone can recommend? I’ve scoured Netflix and Prime. I’ll buy DVDs if I have too.
Thanks.

2021.01.05 11:44 Trunk_z I've made a list of resources which parents/carers can use to help with their (mostly Primary) child's remote learning.

Thank you to everyone for your very kind words and support. It has really given me a sense of hope and pride in our community. Thank you for the awards, I certainly wasn't expecting any of that when I started writing this! Thank you to the mods for allowing this post to stay and especially to all of you thus far for their contributions. We will get through this lockdown together (whilst remaining very separated) and be stronger for it.
Firstly, thank you for being so proactive in your child's education. I understand that things are very difficult for everyone right now.
I've been teaching Primary for 10 years or so and currently doing supply work. Well, I was. The school dropped me due to the schools closing. Feel free to reply / message me if you need a hand with anything.
Some resources in no particular order (many of them are free, I have only accessed them as a teacher, they should be fine for parents. Some resources might be worth contacting your school to implement on a larger scale):
Ones that I have used personally:

Links as suggested by others:

Important updates / other info:
I've put it as a quick Google Sheets, just in case that makes it easier to find again for you all!

I'll add to this list as I cast my mind back to anything else that I think is useful, but hopefully these will get you started.
