He is, generationally, a Boomer. He’s had Boomer tendencies, but he retired last year, and the tendencies are becoming full-blown. It’s hard to watch.
He worked for the same company for 45+ years. Weekends, overtime. His life was eat, sleep, work, church. That is about it. Finally retired due to medical reasons. Has always been conservative leaning, gun-toting, religious, and is a Trump supporter. I’m more liberal-leaning, but pretty moderate. We have differing opinions on politics, social responsibility, religion, etc. I live across the country from my parents and we avoid the touchy subjects, so have been able to get along pretty well.
Covid happened (before he retired, but this was the start of it), and he became a staunch anti (Covid) vaxxer - all other vaccinations are ok, though. I can almost get it - it was developed quickly, experimental status. Blah blah. I’m a scientist, I was good with them, know how mRNA works, etc. Didn’t matter what I told him. But whatever. To each their own. His decision. Just don’t tell me what I should do. After COVID vaccines were made widely available to everyone, he sent me a 60 minute video from BitChute of some crazy “doctors” talking about how dangerous the COVID vaccines are. Tried to convince me to not get them. Got mad when I poked holes in the video, source of info, etc. He sent me some off his rocker comments about the China-virus, Chinese killing female babies, and something about Bill Gates being behind it. It was literally a 6 line text message paragraph, and there was so much to unpack. We bickered, and then dropped it. He once said to me “I don’t understand your leftist liberal leanings - we didn’t raise you that way”. Like, wut? Ffs, I have a good career, healthy marriage, am a productive member of society. I am not an addict or in jail. There are worse things than being a little left leaning, me thinks.
Anyway, now that he has been retired, he does not know what to do with himself. He is on his phone CONSTANTLY. God knows what tin-foil hat wearing, extremist bs he is reading and buying into. He and my mom recently came to visit. While they were here, my mom came to me and was like “your dad is on the phone getting scammed and he won’t listen to me”. He’s on speaker, and I’m listening in. He has his credit card out. He’s talking about a password, security code, etc. I tell him to hang up. He does, and goes on to say why he thinks it’s legitimate. I tell him to call the company office he works with locally for his account and to ask them about it. Sure enough, it’s a scam. He then tries to save face and say he was planning to call and check. Bullshit. He said in the moment he thought it was legit! There were so many red flags. He won’t go to the “how to detect a scam” seminar at the senior center because he doesn’t think he needs it.
He and my mom go home, and next thing I know, he’s texting me asking how many COVID vaccines my toddler has had and that he is concerned for her and us because he has been reading “studies” that link cancer with the third COVID shot. I lose it. Ask him where he is getting his info and to send me the studies. He doesn’t. He drops the issue, but not before my husband saw steam coming out of my ears. He is also one of those who pushed “college college college” on me and my sister. God knows what crazy shit he is reading online, but now he has also bought into the “educational system indoctrinating leftist ideals” stuff, probably because his kids have a different worldview than he does. Like, dude. You pushed it on us. Now you are mad we have a different perspective?

So really if I somehow came up with 2k and paid my dad back today, my sister has no right to be upset with me not gifting her 5% equity at such a LOW price. I'm German and woke up on Sunday morning in Munich just to find out that at 05:30 pm PST (02:30am local time) somebody hacked my HHonors account and booked a room in the SF Hilton Union Square using 48,000 of my points. He/she immediately checked in online and requested a digital key, so I was not longer able to cancel the reservation. I called the hotel's front desk around midnight PST and told them what happend and that I am going to involve law enforcement. They told me that indeed somebody checked in and the room is occupied. With that information at hand I filed an IC3 case with the FBI for wire fraud. I also called SFPD, told the story and asked for the next steps. Well, they gave me a quick lesson about the US consitution (4th amendment) and told me I shall call the fraud department on Monday. Phew, interesting to learn that a cop knocking on a hotel door violates the US consitution. I also filed a complaint on the Hilton website ( as Diamond service hotline is NOT available on Sundays...) - they responded within three hours (Kudos!), opened a fresh account, transferred all of my personal information, reimbursed the 48,000 points, gifted 10,000 points extra and shut down my old account). Minutes later I received my "invoice" ...apparently my alter ego checked out at 05:30am PST and paid the city tax by credit card.
The story could've ended here, but I cannot help myself: I'm curious to find out how they managed to steal the points (I had 2FA enabled!), if they checked out voluntarily at 05:30am and if Hilton called the police on them (city taxes appeared two times, so I'm assuming there were two persons involved). I'm also surprised that they could avoid showing up at the reception..remember: I'm a German national and they checked in under my name/data. I also had no credit card on file, so how did they avoid the upfront pe-authorization?!

One last idea which I don’t hate, due to my current poor financial state, ( I have some credit card debt and student loans) Is to offer my sister 5.33 % for a significantly higher amount such as $6,000? This is still a steal of a deal for her.. but like I said I could really use the extra money.
Please refrain from comments about the gambling part of this story.. I know this is the critical mistake i made to land me in this situation.. but i have learned my lesson the hard way and will NOT go down that road again.

On Redfin the estimate value of the property is about $950,000.
This past month.. I had saved the rent $ due to my landlord but lost it all. Long story short I gambled away this money online, and being faced with eviction, I decided to offer my sister 5% of my 33.33% equity in return for $2000 Zelle. ( I know ridiculous but it truly was the only viable option).
Before sending the $2000, my sister and her husband wanted to draft a document for us all to sign making it “official” that I was giving my 5% equity in return for $2000. But I needed to pay my rent to avoid eviction that same day, so my father came into the picture and sent me the $2000, with the promise of my sister sending him that money back straight to him. So really if I somehow came up with 2k and paid my dad back today, my sister has no right to be upset with me not gifting her 5% equity at such a LOW price. Not only is that equity worth much more than 2k, but I’d effectively be giving her and her husband full power over my mom & I with the majority % she would now have.
My questions: How much is 5% equity truly worth at this moment? And how much will it be worth down the road? Am I in the wrong to not sign the document when I gave them an offer and they accepted it? Hello, I am hoping someone might be able to help me with an issue I’ve had for a long time now. Coming to Reddit is something of a last resort before I accept I’m never getting my documents back.
When I was a teenager, I was gifted an iPad Mini. I did a lot of creative writing on this thing, there’s 200 or so documents in the Pages app. I had iCloud switched on to keep my documents safe in case my iPad got lost, stolen, or broken (ironic, really, given the rest of this story). It’s important to note that I didn’t have a computer or a smartphone at the time, only the iPad. So there was no cross-device synchronisation going on, only communication between my iPad and iCloud.
We didn’t have consistent internet at home, so whenever I did get an internet connection it was pretty common for a bunch of my documents to update with iCloud at once. When this happened, the document tiles in the Pages app would go grey and show an orange loading bar at the bottom. They couldn't be opened for a couple of minutes until the sync was complete.
One day, I’d guess it was mid 2016, I went to open one of my projects and noticed that it was syncing. No problem, all I had to do is wait. I waited for a long time, but the document never finished updating. This issue affects 9 of my documents in total – they’re stuck “updating” indefinitely.
I was really upset when this happened. One of the affected documents was (at the time) my favourite thing I’d ever written, so losing it killed my urge to write for a while. I’m over that now, but I still try to get the documents to open every now and then.
Here’s a list of things I have tried already:
Technical information: the iPad is a first-generation iPad Mini running iOS 9.3.5. The Pages app is version is 2.6.2. The iPad itself is in great condition, I was very careful with it. Everything else runs just fine, so I doubt it's the hardware failing.

- Turning the iPad off and on again, turning my internet router off and on again, using a different internet network.
- Turning off the internet connection on the iPad (it still says "updating", presumably waiting for the connection to come back).
- Checking I had enough free space on my iPad (830MB) and on iCloud (4GB), both of which should be plenty of space for synchronising documents.
- Extensively searching for the problem online. Any instances I’ve found are either different to mine or unsolved/unanswered.
- Leaving the iPad connected to the internet for a full week to see if the documents eventually synchronise.
- Turning off iCloud sync then turning it on again. Doesn’t work. When iCloud sync is off, the documents disappear from Pages entirely. When turned back on, they’re still stuck synchronising.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Pages. Doesn’t work.
- Opening documents through the Files application on iPad. Selecting one of the affected documents just takes me to the home screen of Pages (instead of directly into the file like with an unaffected document). When I tried this while Pages was de-installed from my iPad, it opened a “preview” of my document with a loading bar that never moves instead of opening the full document like it does with my other files.
- Logging into iCloud's web app on the computer to try and open or download the documents that way. Doesn't work. Trying to open the document displayed “loading document” for a good couple of minutes and then I get hit with an error message saying “this document can’t be opened right now, please try again later”. Same thing happens when trying to download (as Pages, Word, or pdf).
- Contacting Apple’s tech support team. I tried this twice. The first person (who I contacted when I first had the issue as a teenager) admitted they had no clue what was going on. They said they’d pass it on to someone and get back to me (I never heard back). The second person (who I contacted about two years ago, when bashing my head against the problem again) told me it was my own fault for not upgrading to newer hardware. As if I had the money to keep buy a new iPad when I was a teenager. Not helpful.
