2024.05.14 07:31 perservere4ever A coworker is obsessed with my dog, what do I do?

TL;DR A coworker is obsessed with my dog, am I being a jerk?
Okay, it sounds hilarious even typing the above, but I really need some perspective on if I am being too sensitive.
It all started lovely - I got a new job that is dog friendly. I have a lab retriver cross, she is my best friend. She loves people and I am so lucky to be able to bring her to the office with me.
All of my coworkers love her. I had to leave town for a few weeks last summer and asked if anyone could watch her. One coworker, we'll call him Brian, agreed. Previously I had caught Brian letting my dog and another lick peanut butter off his arm. I thought it was strange but clearly he's a guy who loves feeding dogs. My dog absolutely adores him. At first it was really cute but it got uncomfortable for me after he dog-sat as he suddenly was blatantly giving her treats and stuff right in front of me. I was pregnant at the time and he was teaching to jump up for food which is such a nasty habit that I had to retrain her not to do (she is 5, we were past that years ago). Someone told me he was secretly giving her treats at his desk. She became so much of a mooch plus the vet said she needed to lose weight that I had to tell the entire workplace not to feed her anything (no one else was, just Brian but I didnt want to make him feel bad).
Fast forward - I've had my baby. He's 3 months now. Brian and a couple other coworkers came to visit. I knew my dog was going to be ecstatic so I let her meet them in the yard to get the zoomies out outside. Baby was on the floor on the playmat when Brian came in and he started playing with Daisy right beside the baby. I picked bebe up because obviously my dog is havung a blast and is clueless to where her limbs are... and I guess Brian is too. For the next 1.5 hours he was playing tug of war with her with one kf the baby toys (which his buddy pointed out while I was talking to someone else and I heard him say all toys are Daisy toys). At one point somehow Daisy was on the baby playmat playing tug of war. She's also shedding right now becausenits spring and I warned them in advance because clothes get covered in fur. He scruffed up hair and got it all over the house. During the visit he said things like "no time is enough time with Daisy" and "Daisy deserves all the attention".
I've gotten a weird feeling forever about Brian's obsession with my dog, but I always told myelf that Daisy loves it so just let it be. But when he rough-housed with her right next to an infant really bothered me. I single-parent for 3 weeks while ny partner is away at work so I was glad to have visitors but I had to clean the house and playmat after they left. I didnt tell him to stop at any point because part of me thinks that I am the problem. Am I being insane here?!?

2024.05.14 07:19 onegelatoaday Why is the first trimester so hard? [ON]

I’m 11 weeks into my first pregnancy, and I’m really struggling with food aversion and unintended weight loss. I’ve been overtaken with morning sickness since week 7, resulting in a steady weight loss of 1lb per week.
I am no longer able to cook, and I have grown sick of the takeout options near me. Oily takeout is a major turnoff and makes me gag. I used to be the biggest foodie before pregnancy. Now thinking about food is my least favourite part of the day. Being in the kitchen is torture. I work in a high-stress corporate environment and also don’t have any energy left after work to cook.
Over the past month, I have survived on fruits + boiled vegetables + the occasional dinner out when I need real nutrients. I have a real craving for homemade food, but my husband does not cook. Husband is great at providing emotional support, but not practical support. He feels I’m being unreasonable for asking him to cook, as he’s already doing enough by attending doctor’s appointments, picking up fruits from grocery stores, and picking up more chores than before.
I do my best with housekeeping too when I am less fatigued, i.e. I still do all the laundry + some dishwashing + cleaning around the house. But he does make me feel like I’m burdening him when he reminds me he has had to do more, since I became pregnant. 😔
I’m also really struggling with homesickness since I’ve never had to feel this hungry before. Coming from East Asia, our prenatal and postpartum culture has a heavy emphasis on eating well. I feel that being an immigrant pregnant woman away from home has made me feel less supported. Most days, I wish I was home near my maternal family.
To all other moms out there: is pregnancy always going to be this hard? How did you cope?

Hello! So I am gonna be starting topamax but everyone I talk too about it tells me NOT to go on it because of how terrible it is. It’s really giving my anxiety to even go and pick it up from the pharmacy tbh. I have chronic anxiety and depression, ocd, and as well just stopped phentermine so my Dr B said I should try this for weight control! Is there ANY positives?!

2024.05.14 07:14 PitifulScarcity7892 Feet turn blue??

Lately I’ve noticed my feet have been turning blue. It’s not triggered by cold temperatures. I’ve noticed it happens after eating, walking, or sitting down for a few minutes. Just a bit of medical history, I had reoccurring bronchitis for 2 years from 2017-2019. Then I developed SVT in 2022. Other than that I have had a clean bill of health. I’m 24F, 5’6, 145lbs. I lift weights and exercise 4-5 times a week. I’ve considered multiple possibilities as to why my feet have been turning blue. Could it be heart related? Lung related? Could I be diabetic? My grandfather was type 2 diabetic. I am hesitant to do to go to a Dr to get it checked out as I have been healthy, other than that.

2024.05.14 07:09 Vast_Mulberry7330 Is the 2lbs per week upper limit for health or for sustainability?

26F 5'6'' SW:270 CW: 258 GW:140 Desk Job and Couch Lover
I've started doing CICO a little over 3 weeks ago, just eating at a 500cal/day deficit from my TDEE for a goal of 1lb/week of loss. I've been paying attention to eating high protein, which has been working really well and has kept me feeling satisfied, but my weight loss has been faster than expected.
I don't stick to my allowance religiously (regularly go over by 50-100 cals a few days a week) but I've still managed to lose over 2lbs per week. I usually see advice to not go more than 2lbs a week, but is that more for health reasons or for sustainability? I don't feel like I'm starving myself at all, so I'm happy to continue as I've been doing.
I'm also curious if it's possible that this is just an initial burst of loss somehow (maybe water weight?) and it'll taper off.
Any advice would be appreciated! Just want to make sure I'm doing things right and not hurting my future self since I have a long way to go.

2024.05.14 07:01 Zebrashurting 3D printed lower leg cast

I had my ankle replaced May 2nd. I’m in a surgical cast right now, but Friday they will take it off and put me in a walking boot. I will not be weight-bearing until July, but I’ll need to open the boot during the week to do range of motion exercises. I wish I could do a regular fiberglass cast, because I have a connective tissue disease that causes the bulky, heavy boot to tear tissue in my knee and hip. A printed cast would be fantastic. My dr supports my desire to get one, but neither of us know how to do so. Do any of you have any ideas? Thank you for reading this and for any advice you may share.

2024.05.14 06:58 Impossible-Deal2187 Is this as bad as I feel like it is?

Hello all.
Feeling a little flustered. My dr wanted me to get labs done as I was told I was prediabetic in November. Female, mid 20s, 5’1 and about 200lbs when I was given diagnosis. I’ve lost weight since. Fast forward this year I get labs done including CMP. AST 110, ALT 229. Luckily A1C is back in normal range. Get an ultrasound done 17cm liver, followed by a NASH diagnosis. My doctor is entirely nonchalant about it, basically says “eat healthy and maybe lose some weight.” I’m feeling like I’m running in circles trying to do the “right” thing and am feeling overwhelmed and flustered. Am I overreacting for thinking my labs are fairly bad for someone who rarely if ever touched alcohol? I know I have plenty of weight to lose. Guess I needed a good vent and maybe some advice.

2024.05.14 06:54 under_cover_pupper Is it ok to start before trying to conceive?

I’m female, 5’3, 130lb, 31. I weight train 3 times a week and walk around 15K steps every day, as well as do HIIT or cardio 3x week.
My lifts: DL: 190LB Squat: 100LB Bench: 65LB
I have been maintaining weight loss of about 10kg for the last 9 years.
Life things happened and now I’m about 4-6lb fatter than I want to be.
We want to start trying for children, but I want to get back to my normal weight before pregnancy ravages my body. Basically want to start pregnancy from a comfortable point to make it easier afterwards.
I’ve been trying to do a moderate deficit for the last few weeks, eating between 1300-1500 calories. But not seen much movement.
Think it’s ok to do this diet for about 2 weeks before we start trying to conceive?
(Note: if I get pregnant of course I would immediately stop the crash diet).

2024.05.14 06:53 AnonymousJrly 24y with chronic pain and NO answers. Please help!

I've had kidney stones since high school. I've passed probably 30. (Diagnosed with cystanuria) But now (past 2 years) around the time I experience flank pain ( not necessarily passing a stone) I also get extreme bone pain. It can be my pelvis, my leg, arm, hand, shoulder, anything. Sometimes it's all of these on one side. My bones crack and my joints get stiff and it's very painful for a while. They've tested me for so much but it always comes back normal. I also have experienced: UTIs, hair loss, weight loss, anemia, random (large) bruises on my legs, face swelling... Typically one side but not the same each time) I went in for more tests today. My CBC only showed 2 things that were off. MCHC was low at 31.7 but it doesn't seem crazy low, and MPV was high at 12.2. Rheumatoid test came back within range and so did c reactive protein.
Please, please, tell me what you would do next. None of my doctors seem to know where to go next.

2024.05.14 06:51 WorthDistribution976 Appetite loss with IUD, at my limit :) doctor is "not concerned" as my 16 appetite loss is "not significant" -- Any advice from anyone who's experienced similar?

18F, 5'7, possible endo, severe menstrual pain and appetite loss. at my limit with my symptoms and have no idea where to go from here.
Around March/April 2023 I began having 2 periods a month, significantly heavier than usual and significantly more painful than I've ever had. This pain has been so significant it will make me curl to the ground when I have cramps, even with alternating 800mg Ibuprofen 2-4x daily and Tylenol.
had been on Hailey Fe 1.5/30 for 4 years, and after discussing with my doctor I then went on Ortho-Cyclen (28). My doctor believed it to be PCOS after my ovaries appearsd to have too many immature follicules (I've had 4 ultrasounds since, all of which state everything looks normal), and stayed the Ortho-Cyclen was more effective for women with PCOS). I had no improvement and continued pain, so we discussed the potential of Endometriosis (I also have cyclic difficulty urinating with my period), and I had the Mirena IUD inserted.
Shortly after insertion (~2 weeks) I began noticing appetitie loss (not nausea, more just a complete lack of desire to eat food, nothing seems appetitizing ever and forcing it down makes me feel sick). Besides this, I've had a great experience with the IUD- no bleeding, and while I still have pain, it's tolerable if I alternate Ibuprofen and Tylenol.
Fast foward to now, the appetite loss has gotten so severe that I'm having difficulty eating more than a few bites of food a day. I haven't lost a TON of weight, but I feel insanely weak. I'm usually very active as I'm a full-time college student and figure skate (usually 1-2 hours, 5-6 days per week, now managing once or twice a weak for maybe 30 minutes). I had a hard time getting in with my regular doctor so I was placed with a different OBGYN, who told me it likely wasn't the IUD and to drink smoothies and protein shakes and cream (which I was already doing, main source of nutrition over the past 3 months). She also did several blood tests, which showed nothing other than a slightly elevated Anion Gap (14 iirc). I was told my next option would be remove the IUD and get a Kyleena placed, although that would carry the risk of returned pain. I was told if that would happen, I could get a laproscopic surgery to check for and remove any endometrial lesions. I weighed around 146 at this appointment at the beginning of March. I began bleeding once a month like a regular period just after this appointment as well, after having no bleeding since the insertion (the strings are still in place).
I had no improvement in symptoms and noticeably lost weight, so I visited another doctor (again, could not get in to see either previous doctor until June). At this visit on April 4th, I weighed 128 (~16 lb weight loss). This doctor was incredibly dismissive (as well as two different nurses saying to my face "they wished they had my problem") ans told me she's never seen a case where someone has had appetite loss from IUD and that it was more likely another medication of mine.
I'm on 300mg Modafinil daily for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome I developed in 2022 after getting Influenza A. I've been on this medication since early August 2023 (1.5 months after getting the IUD placed). While I had no increases appetitie loss after starting it, I had suspected this to be the case, so I paused taking it to find no difference in my symptoms back in January. I told her this and she said while she would take the IUD out, she doesn't believe it to be the cause and provided no further discussion on options.
I found IUD insertion to be rather uncomfortable, but no where near as painful as my menstrual cramps. That said, I really didn't want to remove the Mirena and replace it with a Kyleena unless I needed to. I followed up my primary and decided to take a 3 week break from the Modafinil. I've had absolutely zero improvement in symptoms.
Im about to make my appointment to swap the IUDS, but I'm just so frustrated with the care I've recieved.
I understand my weight loss isn't that significant, but for someone like me who has a very consistent weight and a very active lifestyle, it is for me. I can't function how I need to, and my symptoms are interfering with my life significantly. I still have no idea if its PCOS or endometriosis, but I feel my symptoms better align with endo.
Is there any advice anyone can give me going forward? I'm terrified the pain is going to come back after swapping these IUDs, as the pain is so bad I can't handle it twice a month. I can't continue not eating either.
Thank you to anyone who got this far

2024.05.14 06:48 Blastwing Feeling devastated as I lost a lot of facial fat while losing weight

Tl;dr at the bottom of the post
I am 35M. I used to be skinny fat. Skinny arms, legs but most fat on my belly and face.
Over the last 6 months, I have been running, working out and being on a healthy diet. I w-/ able to go from 23-24% to around 15% body fat percentage. My goal is to develop a defined set of six packs before the summer by continuing to exercise and lower my body fat percentage to 10-11%. Currently, my body became more toned but I still do not have a defined set of abs with a blob of fat surrounding my lower abs.
Recently however, I have become devastated as my family and peers have told me that I became so skinny and that my face looks more wrinkly and older, as if I have some sort of an illness. I still have about 4% body fat percentage to lose to reach my goal but I am afraid my face will look much wrinklier and older.
When I searched the web, some sources say that losing too much weight in a short period of time might cause excess skin on the face look wrinkly, but it will take time for your skin to shrink and your face would look less older.
Others have said runners use sunscreen to protect skin damage which makes you look less wrinkly, which I agree. Over the last 6 months, I don’t think I had tons of sun exposure as my area tends to be cloudy and rain. But now summer is approaching and with sun coming out more, I am planning to apply more sunscreen during my outdoor runs.
Some say once I gain more muscle mass while staying at low body fat percentage, my face will look a bit less skinnier and therefore will look less older. But I don’t understand how this would work and whether it is true.
I wanted to ask if anyone else with similar experiences could share their journey and what they did to overcome their “fat deprived wrinkly face”?
Tl;dr As a 35M, I lost a lot of weight too quickly and my face now is wrinkly and looks older. Any way to make my face look less older without increasing body fat percentage?

2024.05.14 06:46 Advanced-Brief1673 Need some advice slowing down weight loss and maintaining current weight

Hey all, I was let go from my position at my office job on April 19th and decided I wanted to start losing some weight. For reference, I’m 6’3 and was at 246 pounds at my last doctor’s office visit on April 16th. Fast forward to this past Saturday, May 11th, I was down to 233 pounds. That’s definitely a lot of weight lost in a short amount of time. That being said, throughout high school and college I was in the 170-pound range and gained a significant amount of weight during and after COVID.
My regimen has simply been cutting carbs and implementing a quick at-home workout almost every day, typically no more than 20 mins. Other than that I’m far more sedentary than I should be. The issue I think I’m facing, though, is either eating too few calories or eating too infrequently throughout the day. For example, yesterday I maybe consumed 1300-1400 calories, and most of that was lunch at Chili’s while watching the NBA playoffs. I also did a quick workout afterward that burned about 230 calories.
Since I’m not working, my sleep schedule has also been thrown off. I was consistently getting up at 6:20 every morning, but since being let go I’ve had multiple post 11 AM mornings, including a few post-noon wake up times. I’m going to work on that for sure!
I’d like to keep my weight where it is for right now, at 233 (give or take a couple pounds), with the eventual goal to get down to about 215-220. What should I do? According to the Mayo Clinic calorie calculator, I should be consuming around 3050 calories per day to maintain my weight. Should I aim for a little bit lower, maybe 2200-2500/day, to kind of slow down the weight loss before focusing on maintaining it?
This is all very new to me because I was below 200 pounds for over 20 years of my life! I definitely feel a lot better than I did 13 pounds ago but I’m worried I’m losing too much without realizing it, and I don’t want to do any damage to myself. Any help y’all can offer would be fantastic. Thanks!

2024.05.14 06:40 ProfessionalGarlic17 My (24f) god sister (13f) has never learned how to process her father’s and a few other family members deaths. How do i help her?

Hey, I’m not sure if this is the right sub for this but any kind of advice would help.
My god sister lost her father a few years ago and she never really learned how to process it. He was never an active father because I never met him and her mother’s family is super close and always have gatherings. Her older also has the same father and we’ve known each other since we were 8. Her grandmother and her uncle recently passed away on her fathers side of the family as well as the tragic loss of a cousin. (Cousin passed away in april had the funeral in early may, uncle passed less than a week later). We also lost a family friend last year to suicide.
She’s been suffering silently and she’s recently come to me about everything she’s feeling. She feels like all the death around her is her fault and she’s scared that she’s going to die young as well. She has anger issues and when she gets to certain point she can’t control herself. I believe its her being a young teenager amplifies these tantrums but I also believe its all the feelings she cant release and process.
She’s the middle child of 3 kids. Older brother 23m, and younger sister 5f. She’s very aware of her feelings and knows how to explain them but she doesn’t know how process them. She feels like therapy isn’t going to work for her because she has trust issues. Shes afraid that if she tells her friends or anyone for that matter, they’ll throw it in her face when they’re angry and use it against her. I’m the first person she’s spoken to about this. She’s even had thoughts of doing the worst to herself. I’ve offered to take her places and I’m going to help her learn how to deal with all of these emotions but I honestly don’t know where to start. I’m going to talk to her mom about this but her mom isn’t the best for emotional support, and after me and my god sister talked she tried talking to her mom but she didn’t understand how she was feeling.
Any advice on how to help her would help. I’m definitely going to talk to her mother about getting her into therapy because she definitely needs it regardless if she feels like its going to help or not.
TL;DR; God sister has issues dealing with death and I need advice on how to help her.

2024.05.14 06:34 binghambish Rejoined today/introducing myself.

Hi. I am one day in. I am a 40 year old mom to 2 teens and a 20 yr old, i am 5 ft 9 and I weight 261 lbs also I am from Canada. My goal weight is 175 (yet I’ve never weighed less than 197lbs since I was 14 yrs old) I’ve been on and off weight watchers since I was a literal child. It’s been a few years since the last time I have been on plan, however.
The last time I was on WW I joined Sept 2020 and lost 65 lbs by April 2021 and then I had one bad day, started eating, stopped tracking and by March of 2023 I had gained +80 lbs. Since last year I have fluctuated between 250-270 lbs trying to ‘do it on my own’.
My dr has been breathing down my neck about losing weight, I have high cholesterol and pre-diabetes. I’m sure she’s well meaning but she put me on Contrave and I barely lost 5% of my body weight in over 6 months, then she prescribed me ozempic and saxenda both I have yet to take. I am scared to do the shots myself so I figured I’d give WW a go. After all it did work, until it didn’t.
I’m nervous to start again, but also excited and very willing. I want to give it my all. I want to be successful and finally shed these pounds for good.
So aside from telling you my life story (lol) how has the program changed in the last 3 years?
Thanks for reading and I look forward to talking to you all more throughout my ‘journey’

2024.05.14 06:26 PopInternational4982 Day 5 - Last Hope

I grew up in the Deep South. The land of beef, cheese, and fried chicken. While I have drastically changed my diet from what I was raised on, I have never given the plant based diet a second thought. Until now. 24M.
I am 6’2 250 pounds at 19% body fat. I am far from the 300 pound (29% BF) offensive lineman that I once was, but I still have yet to achieve a lean physique even with tedious calorie counting and exercise. More importantly than my looks, I would really just love to feel better, have more energy, and wake up in a less awful head space. I have bought into the low carb life time and time again and I just do not believe that is the way that the creator of mankind meant for us to eat. I have experimented with every diet in the book but this one.
Everyone in my family is overweight, and my mother is on her last straw before she goes through with a weight loss surgery. She has also lived a lifetime of failed diets that have left her hungry, insulin resistant, and overweight. I am committed to a minimum of 30 day WFPB diet in hopes of seeing results that I can share with my mom.
The Starch Solution makes great sense to me, and I am optimistic about weeks to come. I know for my mother to lose weight sustainably, it has got to be something that leaves her consistently satiated. That is what I hope to find in this new adventure.
I will say, on days 4 and 5, my fatigue is increased, and my mood is lower, especially upon waking. And I know for a FACT it is not a calorie shortage. My hope is that I am going through dairy withdrawal, as I have never gone this long without a great bit a of cheese before.
PLEASE WISH ME LUCK. PLEASE SHARE ANY THOUGHTS AND/OR SUCCESS STORIES!
