2024.05.13 22:58 Illustrious_Company HELP - Deciding What to do Next
Hello! I am looking to find a travel card to possibly supplement my messy mashup of cashback, UR and MR. I primarily travel domestic 2-3 times a year, but my girlfriend and I plan on making an international trip (Europe) next year. I signed up for the AMEX Gold for the SUB and to get an intro to MR points because I typically only fly Delta. Other than that, I rarely find any other uses for MR and currently have ~110k points sitting in limbo.
As far as Chase UR goes, I've recently found interest in applying those points to Hyatt, but I feel like I'd need the CSP / CSR to make it worth-while, especially with the current SUB. I've been hesitant to try their airline partners, but I could be open to United Airlines. Southwest's reputation has me staying away for now.
All that being said, I want to see if it makes sense to upgrade to a more premium travel card. I've been looking at the US BAR (I can make use of the 3% mobile wallet offer), Venture X and CSR mostly for their travel credits. I live in the Tampa area, so the Priority Pass benefits do not really apply to my home airport.
Also - since we moved, our primary grocery shopping has been at Target. Publix here is beyond stupid expensive, even compared to Target. We sprinkle in some Aldi here and there, but it's pretty far away. The plan is to get a Costco or Sam's Club membership later this year. Thank you in advance!
- Current cards: (list cards, limits, opening date)
- AMEX BCE $15,000 limit, April 2022
- Downgraded BCP to BCE after the first year. Primarily used for gas, online purchases, and Disney bundle credits.
- AMEX Gold, July 2022
- Got this for the 90k SUB and plan on cancelling it this upcoming renewal cycle. Use it for all groceries (where applicable) and dining out. Love it for Xfer to Delta (my preferred airline), but the monthly credits are starting to become annoying to use.
- Chase Freedom Unlimited $16,100 limit, May 2022
- Opened this as a starter card, along with the BCP for category spending. Only used for some select bills (internet, Disney AP payments, E-Pass refills)
- SoFi MasterCard $8,000 limit, November 2023
- Opened this for first year to get promotional 3% cashback, and no FTFs for a trip I made to Bermuda. Currently use it as a daily driver for anything but groceries or dining out.
- FICO Score: 763
- Oldest account age: 6 years, 9 months
- Chase 5/24 status: 3/24
- Income: 120,000
- Average monthly spend and categories:
- rent: $2049
- dining: $650-750
- groceries / household supplies: $650
- gas: $100
- travel: $80-100 \divided out the cost of my last trip by 12 months*
- online shopping (amazon): $150-200
- Open to Business Cards:
- What's the purpose of your next card?
- Travel - primarily airlines, hotel is a secondary
- Do you have any cards you've been looking at?
- Yes - CSP for signup bonus / churning, Venture X, US BAR, and CSR
- Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card?
- I wouldn't mind a category spend card, but I'd much prefer one for general spending.

2024.05.13 17:44 Immediate_Equality Help me like I'm a 5 year old (please)
Ok, so, first of all, thank you all for coming.
I'm a former boy scout and backpacking instructor. As a teen I was mostly interested in the kind of gear that seemed flashy or a bargain, rather than the kind that would last me a lifetime or had some quality specs. I went through a handful of Costco "tactical" flashlights, headlamp multi-packs, cheapo knives, etc.
Half a lifetime later, I'm a sober alcoholic, recovered from several years of major depressive disorder that took a significant toll on my pursuit of things that interested me. As I've aged, I've become much less interested in purely flashy gadgets in favor of ones that have a warranty and some serious reviews and recommendations behind them. For example, while I don't have the ultimate in knife technology or artistry, I can confidently say that I have the best kitchen tools available.
That brings me to this subreddit, which I found recently after getting back into some EDC stuff. I found a nice light for quick illumination and everyday use - an Acebeam Pokelit. The one thing i learned is that the high lumen output has a relatively brief lifetime in one battery charge. What I'd like to find is something with more sustained high lumen output and a long battery life.
I need help with recommendations. The information is available here, no question - but I am overwhelmed by the sheer density of the data here, and I would love if someone could help me out.
What am I looking for in a quality flashlight? Should I anticipate this being a $50 purchase or a $200 purchase for a buy-it-for-life option? Is BIFL even a fair expectation? Am I better off buying five inexpensive lights in the next 20 years, or is there one option that will last me that long?
If there's a "beginner guide" anyone can point me towards, that would be sweet too - I'm a sponge for this information, but really, please do explain it like I'm 5.
Please and thank you! Have a great day, y'all.

2024.05.13 04:30 ApatosaurusHans DIA Area Store Report
I've never really explored the shops near the airport outside of that Costco, and happened to have time after my flight came in today to poke around since I was in that part of town.
Tower Liquor - Don’t bother, anything good is marked up behind the counter. Half convenience store half liquor store. Rest of whiskey selection is primarily shelfers.
Solomon - standard shelfer selection with Wellers in the 300 range.
Tower Liquors (with an Liquors with an 's') - Ok. 129 horse juice. 150 (?) EHT Small Batch. Both just out on the shelf that peasants can look at and even touch. Gasp. Blue / Black (and maybe one more) Wellers 200-250 in the case.
Prices all over on other stuff... like TinCup 14 for close to $100 - that didn't really make sense to me but whatever. Other stuff was solidly MSRP. Several Little Books in close to 200, but hey, they were present. If I was local to that area, I wouldn't mind occasionally passing through after a King Soopers run in the same lot, but don't really see myself going back regularly.
Green Valley - overpriced Weller green and Blantons for 200 something. Immediate turn off. Mixed selection with meh pricing otherwise. Would not make return trip.
DIA Warehouse - Evans & Pike 100-130 (haven't seen this before, seems to be old primarily sourced/blended stuff from the same group as Mashbuild?), Sagamore Reserve Cask Finishes 80ish, Several RY3 60-120, Kings County selection, Bardstown standards, EC a124 80. As long as you want standard stuff, prices aren’t too bad. Like, I could see if you were an out of state-er coming in for a vacation and wanted to hit a store near the airport before you really got going... wouldn't be bad. Allocated, however, requires dumb points system. If that’s what you are looking for, unless you are local and that’s your shop, then I'd move on... which is what I did.
Green Valley - EC a123 80, various Penelopes, decent variety range mostly msrp, except Buff 36, EW SiB 34 - almost picked this up.
DIA Costco - Old Elk SB 7 years - 70, Leopold Dickel Collab 74.97 with a death star. I feel like that one has been death starred for a while but somehow it's still around. Perhaps the .97 is the true end of stock? I've heard it's more Dickel than Leopold, is that your experience?
At this point, I got tired of the torrential rain and called it quits.
Happy Hunting!

2024.05.12 20:48 shgodzcommadynasty Anyone else feel like we play on hard mode in CO?
I live in the Springs, but commute a good amount along the front range. For the past 5 years or so, I have gotten into whiskey, mostly bourbon, but I do enjoy Speyside scotches and Japanese stuff. As part of that, I have gone through my various phases of bourbon knowledge/enjoyment, "entry level" bottles, craft stuff, and then naturally to more allocated bottles. I have amassed a decent collection that I enjoy myself and enjoy sharing with family and friends.
Regarding allocated bottles, I have a friend who recently got into whiskey, mostly bourbon, and has begun bourbon hunting out of Southern California. In their time hunting (less than 6 months) they have amassed more allocated and rare bottles than myself, and have had opportunities to buy even more - all at MSRP/close to MSRP through larger liquor store chains, grocery stores, and big box stores, like Costco.
While I am certainly happy for him, I can't help but think about how California (and other states) are the "Have's" and Colorado are the "Have Not's".
I frequent stores, am friendly with the owners and the stores workers, yet they make it seem like I am asking for their first born child if I ask for a bottle of Eagle Rare. If I find one on the shelf, its $60, along with a $100 Weller Special Reserve and $150 Bookers. Anytime I have ever gotten something extra allocated, namely a Weller FP or RR13, it is through a raffle.
This is all to say, I think I am just about at the end of my bourbon hunting phase, particularly in Colorado. There is of course plenty of good bottles on the shelves (Old Forester 1920 is tough to beat for the price), and the whole allocated song and dance just isn't worth it out here. Curious to hear if anyone else has had the same experience.

2024.05.11 18:15 Bitcoin1776 Best veterinary for strays in San Juan Puerto Rico - Satos - info provided
I made a post long ago here : On how to treat dogs in Puerto Rico
https://old.reddit.com/PuertoRicoTravel/comments/14d20z2/how_to_interact_care_for_dogs_in_puerto_rico_a/ San Miguel Veterinary Services
(787) 200-4927 (787) 641-5225
11 Calle 6, Bayamón, 00959 Carr #2 Km. 11.8, Edificio Centurión Local 1, Bayamon, Puerto Rico
Monday through Friday 7am - 6pm; Saturday 9am - 2pm
Nearly all 5 star reviews - good luck!
I spoke with my vet in San Juan - and they said this vet service will help your stray dog (most will not). The main procedures you want are :
Simparica Trio ($50), Vaccines ($150), and Spay / Neuter ($200, show up before 9am)
https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/simparica-trio-221-44-lbs-dogs I was able to get my Trio at a Petco in Puerto Rico (it is about $50) - but others have had difficulty. If you have 3+ days, I would recommend - ST & Vaccines, then Spay / neutering 48 hours later, while helping them gain as much weight as possible.
If I only had 1 day - and it was a female dog - I would prioritize Spaying over everything else - that dog will die giving birth otherwise, within 2 months. With a male dog, ST & vaccines are more important - neutering will only reduce aggression.
Generally speaking - I would recommend ground beef as the best food for strays - or rotisserie chicken. I give my dogs small amounts of creatine powder - into the water bowl (1 g / day for 40 lb dog - 1/2 human dosage per pound).
Creatine ($50 for infinite supply) is basically health magic. It fixes heart, lung, muscle problems nearly instantly, if there is enough protein (meat) to repair these things. In my dog - she had been limping for 2 years, was slowly getting better, and then stopped limping completely within 2 days of having creatine - and began to run again. My bigger dog no longer has heart / breathing issues, again, within just a few days of creatine.
There is enough creatine in ground beef and rotisserie chicken to fix a dog - but standard dog food has 0 creatine - which is only suitable for fully healthy, lazy dogs (no muscle building or repair).
I have also given dogs small amounts of 0 sugar electrolyte powder and Pedialyte, but results are meddling. It WILL keep them alive if they are not eating food, for several days. But in the future, I would lean strongly toward creatine powder + liquefied ground beef into a fat syringe.
When it comes to electrolytes, if they are shaking, they need more and Pedialyte will 100% help - but try as little sugar as possible, 0 sugar Liquid IV (Costco) best. If they have too much salt - they will lose appetite and pee aggressively. I might suggest 20 ml per serving for a 20 lb dog, twice daily - or 1/10 human dosage per pound.
I had a dog die from eating something that got stuck in their intestines, recently, and after $5,000 and two weeks of hospital care - the doctor 'whoops' and killed the dog. If a dog is not pooping - fat is probably the best laxative you might want to consider, which will also prevent excess calorie loss from not eating. If a dog is not pooping - I would suggest fat as the cheapest, healthiest remedy. I did not think of this at the time, and doctor just killed my dog - because 'not pooping is not medically relevant'.. this was at the 24/7 Emergency Car hospital in San Juan, both of which have a 2 star rating..
These people look very promising however..

2024.05.11 05:00 mo_aero Cold Therapy on a Budget
With even the cheapest no-name cold therapy machines running $150 to $200, I decided to build my own for a total cost of ~$70. Please do not feel the need to follow this list to a T, you can certainly make do with similar parts if you just want to use this build as a template.
This setup has worked incredibly well for me so far with no leaks and no sweating of the tubing. My cooler ($15 from Costco) has kept things extremely cold and has only needed ice refills about once a day; with the tight fitting sleeve, this has provided me much better relief than the commonly recommended gel wraps which I started with. Some of the common complaints about the OTS cold therapy machines have been the frequency of refilling needed and the lack of relief provided (not cold enough), having a real cooler has proven to be a real upgrade here.
The smart plug has been a great addition to keep the icing schedule consistent even if I fall asleep or lose track of time.
Parts List
Part Name | Quantity | SupplieLink | Notes |
Submersible Pump | 1 | https://amzn.to/3UCblrl | I used one from Harbor Freight, but this one is very similar.HF Pump: HF Pump |
Pump Port Adapter | 1 | https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6617123 | I designed this adapter for the HF pump, but the port dimensions are identical. Please reach out to me if you'd like a different size port or if you'd like me to make you one (Including o-ring seal) for ~shipping cost. |
Pump Port Adapter, O-ring | 1 | https://amzn.to/4bcNJk7 | Again, very similar to the HF set that I used. No, you don't need this whole set... You just need an o-ring to sit in the internal groove of the pump port adapter, doesn't even have to be a perfect fit because, well... it's submerged. You might even be able to get away with a MacGyvered tape job. Now that I think of it, I will make a new version of the pump adapter which sits in the ID of the pump port and can be sealed with electrical tape (or whatever you have) HF Set (PN is P12): HF O-ring set |
0.25" ID Vinyl Tubing, 10ft | 1 | https://amzn.to/44CO650 | 10ft should be plenty of length and gives you much more ability to move around than the shorter lengths on the OTS options |
(Option 1) 0.25" ID QD Connector, 4pcs | 1 | https://amzn.to/3WFRk5R | (Preferred Option) Only 2 females needed if using exact parts. I used Option 2 (barbed unions) due to a time constraint (available in person at Home Depot), but these would have been nice to avoid unstrapping the cooling pad. I did design and print an adapter to fit over the male QD fittings, but 3D prints are notorious for their porosity (read lack of waterproofness) |
(Option 2) 0.25" Barbed Union, 4 pcs | 1 | https://amzn.to/44F6k5R | (Secondary Option) Only 2 needed |
Cold Therapy Knee Sleeve | 1 | https://amzn.to/4b7Zloy | This pad has been really great so far and hasn't leaked, you just need to ensure you don't position the straps in a way that you block the flow. Can provide a bit of compression depending on how tightly you strap down. |
Cooler | 1 | https://amzn.to/4bfzuLu | This is just an example of a cooler that would be suitable, don't go out and buy this one if you already have something similar! |
Smart Plug | 1 | https://amzn.to/44GY1qf | Optional, but highly recommended. I used this to set schedules throughout the day to turn the pump on and off without having to get up. |
| | Total Cost | ~$70 |
At time of writing, I'm 7days post-op from an ACLr with quad graft and LCL tear (unrepaired) and I think this cold therapy has been a big part of my recovery and pain relief. I'm currently walking around my apartment with no brace and no crutches and am close to full extension and 90deg flexion!
Note: Yes, these are Amazon affiliate links. No, you do not need to use them and you can actually find many of these parts at your local home improvement store (usually for higher cost). Please reach out if you need help sourcing something or modifying something to fit your build.

2024.05.10 22:11 Odd-Context-2543 Suggestions on which beginner(ish) cards
44 y/o with a 750 score. Recently leased a new vehicle. I had some trouble with credit cards in my 20's so I've been gun shy for a bit. Good credit now and starting to travel a bit for work. I am looking to start building a plan to capitalize on these expenses and maximize rewards I can gain from my positive credit. Where do I start? I am thinking of applying for CSP and build from there. Anything I am missing? Just trying to get a solid game plan before I jump in.

2024.05.10 21:07 ScalePlenty9663 Advice: Cash Savings + Future Financial Goals + Asset Protection
2024.05.10 14:31 HockeySweata What happens if I spend less than my 2% rewards certificate?
I tried to look here but it didn't answer my question:
https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1008254/~/executive-2%25-reward-faqs For the first time ever my Costco 2% reward (not the Citibank reward) will be for more than I usually spend in a week. To keep it simple let's say it is for $200. I normally spend about $150 a week at Costco.
If I spend $150 of my $200 reward will they give me $50 in change or can I use the certificate a second time with whatever the remaining balance is?
Maybe people have confused the Citibank reward with the executive reward but I have also read on here that you can cash this certificate like it is a check. Is that true and if so do you just go to customer service?
In this scenario is it best to just buy a shop card?

2024.05.10 07:43 rollitiff Feeding Raw on a Budget
Hello friends! I’m kind of in a rut right now. My dear kitty has been on a raw diet with his breeder and I’ll be picking him up in two days. I’m keeping him on the raw diet company (Darwin’s) that they had him on for the first few weeks but I’d like to transition him to a much more budget friendly option. However, I would like to keep feeding him raw but many of these raw food companies cost like $150+ and you have to order at least 10lbs every time. Is there any other option to be able to keep feeding raw but more budget friendly? Like is it possible to buy bulk from Costco and prepare my own (with supplements and also organ meats).
I’m also open to wet and dry food options and I’d love to hear what you guys feed your darling folds as well! Thanks in advance!

2024.05.09 23:27 INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS Can someone help me tell the difference between these 4K 60hz monitors for sale on Costco.com online store?
I'm in the market for a new monitor and am aiming for 4K 60hz. Costco has pretty good prices.
Which one of these do you think are better? They're both UHD at 4K 60 hz, so I don't really know why one is $150 more than the other. Can you help give me eyes to see the difference?
This will be used for work and non-competitive single player games.

2024.05.09 17:40 tcglasso Help! Screen climbing behavior after poop
| I’ve noticed that Jake always decides he has to climb on the ceiling after he poops. Any other time he basks as normal, but as soon as he poops he makes a break for the ceiling. It’s basically become an indicator that I need to clean out his enclosure. Obviously I want to prevent this behavior, so I’m hoping somebody can identify the problem. There might be a little bit of blood in the stool, but I’m not sure. He gets one hornworm every other day, along with a mix of dubias and crickets. The last picture is my lighting brands. I have a smart thermostat at his basking spot that controls the ceramic heater. It keeps it between 81-85 degrees, I raised this a little bit beyond recommended temp to try and help the issue, but it still happens. Any insight is appreciated! 2024.05.09 15:56 AskJeevesBeta New 2022 XLE Tires: EV Compatible?
Like a lot of
other people, I'm at about 24K miles and in need of new tires for our Sienna (FWD, because it's an 8-passenger model). The original tires were the Falkens, but the dealership said there's no prorated refund on OEM tires.
Costco has two versions of BFG Advantage Control and Michelin Defender 2s on sale right now. (I'm also considering the Goodyear Assurance All-Season.) The BFGs are about 100-150 dollars cheaper, but I'm wondering whether the "EV compatible" Defenders would be important for the Sienna. Does anyone know if a hybrid vehicle would benefit from the lower-resistance rubber?
