2024.05.14 17:27 Sin-God A Very Curious Coincidence: A Setting That Has Jumpchain-Like Elements

This post, in its fullness, is about Ta Mando and the Shiftverse, a setting we'll talk about in a bit but before we get started I do wanna mention something kind of neat.
I've vaguely alluded to how I learned about jumpchains, mentioning that it was through a CYOA creator who also does jumps. Pre-pandemic I was a member of the Make Your Choice & NSFW CYOA communities, and I saw FancyFireDrake's Goddess of Mankind CYOA and I really liked it so I checked out some of their other stuff. At the time I was already paying attention to NSFW CYOAs because of TroyxPage, specifically Grand Adonis which to this day remains at least in my top three favorite CYOAs of all time, and when I saw that I really liked Goddess of Mankind I wanted to see what else FFD had done so I looked through their stuff and saw stuff on Jumpchains. This was happening around the same time I was joining the Shiftverse as a player.
Through the power of coincidence I was joining the Shiftverse, an original setting by a friend of mine named Philososhy, at about the same time I was learning about jumpchains and beginning to really discover the power of crossover fan fiction and stuff like that. Here's a little bit of canon Luciano Lore; as a child I began writing, which is part of what I do professionally and semi-professionally, by writing self insert crossover fan fiction though at the time I didn't know these things had terms. I was raised overseas, as I am an army brat, and I was homeschooled, and my family wanted me to get into reading and writing, and so they had me write stories. I don't think they anticipated the lifelong rollercoaster that that would send me on. Anyways, back to the central topic.

The Shiftverse

Before we get started I wanna say that I'm describing a LIVING setting I'm a PLAYER in not the MASTER of so this information will be necessarily limited and imperfect. That said I'm a VERY passionate player, and given the RL circumstances of this setting and my character's circumstances I know a healthy chunk of lore, though I am not even scratching the surface due to this being a special interest of mine and me being a big nerd, plus my character also has had the chance to learn a lot of neat stuff about the metaphysics at play here and has just been taught a lot of cool lore on the interior of things, SOME of which I'm communicating here in a very broad sense of strokes.
The very, very basic gist of the shiftverse from a player character perspective, is that player characters are... reality TV stars whose lives are shows airing on multiversal, cosmic televisions, and they are watched by monstrous, unknowable beings, while the player characters go from world to world, for various different amounts of time, and just LIVE among the inhabitants of the world, free to do as they please and to interact with locals however they wish. It is a pure coincidence that this VERY basic gist sounds so remarkably similar, conceptually at least, to Jumpchains, though as a very funny matter of fact in the SPECIFIC setting I have a character in, there are others with player characters and another one of us knew about jumpchains before I started sharing stuff about jumpchains in the Ta Mando (the SPECIFIC world my character lives in, which is just one of many settings which exist for the Shiftverse) server (which is public, I'll be posting a link to the world-anvil later).
All of the player character primes (the term used to apply to beings who get sent from world to world for the sake of the tv shows, which does not encompass ALL multiversal wanderers in this setting, and also NPC primes exist) I know of are humans from a mundane Earth, in fact many of us in Ta Mando (though almost certainly not all of us) are from the SAME Earth. Certainly all of the player character primes for Kanda, which is the central location, "location" being used real loosely, are from the same Earth and about the same time period.
Primes get superpowers of various sorts to help us survive and live exciting lives. We're also capable of using the powers native to the world's we visit, though learning and attaining such powers isn't always easy. My character is Jonathan Mondragon, who on Earth prior to them becoming a Prime, was a Puerto Rican doctor. I did insert SOME traits of myself in them, they are non-binary, they are bilingual, they are a charisma main, but my ORIGINAL idea for this character was for them to be a Caribbean Homelander (they have a few different powers, namely the powers of Superman (Smallville style, so the powers are steadily growing and new ones become accessible over time) & a set of social powers, which along with Omega Beams and some doctohealer stuff represent their STARTING kit, in the time since they've arrived they've become a champion of a deity of truth and honor, gained the very beginnings of a dragon's power set, and have attuned to the Ta Mando equivalent to The Force, so we love a chaotic ass power-grabber). That idea... did not last long. Jonathan has been in Ta Mando for a few months now, and is a solidly moral person due in large part to the fucking nightmare they had to endure in the beginning of their time here (they were deliberately summoned by the people of a colony of Kanda who were in a bad spot, and Jon has largely succeeded in solving SOME of the problems but it was ROUGH), and the growth they've endured as a result of both pain and the good things they've done since they arrived. Some other primes include characters with really strong magic stuff, someone who is a Saiyan, and a person who is the Avatar, as well as people more attuned to the Ta Mando version of the force and a Space Marine, so as you can see our power sets can VARY.
There are other vague similarities with Jumpchains, such as vague similarities between items in jumps and items in shifts, as a prime tends to get SOME basic items at the start of a chain (usually a facility which serves as a house, which can differ from prime to prime, and functions as a bit of a less protected/more accessible warehouse) but not ALL primes get that and SOME primes get WILDLY more advanced facilities than others. OTHER items can be included as well, as my character has stuff for medicine and farming, and I know of other primes who've got uranium mines, lightsabers, and even pets as part of their starting kit. There ARE difference, one of the biggest differences is that a shift's (the in-universe term for a stint in a world/setting) length is NOT a decade and can last however long the eldritch beings who run the show feel like, though from what I, Luciano, know it seems like most last about a human lifetime, though there are some that last WILDLY longer than that. Another significant difference, as has been explained and hinted at to my character, is that remembering the details of a shift once you leave is not guaranteed, nor is having and keeping the same powers you once had, and all of this is similar to the idea of drawbacks in a jumpchain but these changes, as far as I know, across shifts do not confer any advantages in exchange like a jumpchain drawback does.

Ta Mando

I'm not gonna say much here, I'll just post two links. One is to the World Anvil for Ta Mando, one SPECIFIC setting in the Shiftverse (there are many worlds someone could get shifted too, Ta Mando is just one of them). The other is to my character's World Anvil page, Jonathan Mondragon. This is not SUPER up to date, but it's the beginning of a good set of articles for people in Soterri, as well as a way to learn more about my adventures. Also, this is a text-based TTRPG campaign and we play using GURPS. It's... weird. I'm very much a D&D person, I've been playing D&D over half of my life (literally, I'm 29, the first time I played D&D I was 13, and I had the books BEFORE then), so it's been an adjustment. I like it though, my character DOES feel powerful and has had plenty of kicks moments, but just LEARNING what I can do and the mechanics of everything was a trip.
Anyways, Ta Mando is my favorite TTRPG setting I've ever been in, there's a lot to discover, there's a lot more for me to do there, and I sometimes think about doing a Shiftverse jumpdoc. I think it'd be very funny to blend the two systems like how I've blended the Troyverse & Jumpchains, and how I plan to blend Akumakami64's Love Azathoth CYOA (have a little surprise announcement, as a treat, for making it this far, but do note that I'm in the middle of my busiest time of the year so this won't be for a minute), but truthfully I just don't know enough to really do it justice. Maybe someday I'll make a jumpdoc for The Shiftverse. it could be fun honestly.

2024.05.13 18:26 FirstnameLastname14 So apparently Stormtrooper armor is bulletproof

As some of you may know, projectile weapons, known as slugthrowers, exist in the Star Wars universe. They function similarly to real-world guns, taking bullets that are fired at high speeds towards an opponent. Interestingly, they're quite effective against Jedi, since the lightsaber will just cause the bullets to melt and hot shrapnel will come out the other end into the wielder's body. However, that's not what we're here to talk about today.
Supposedly, Stormtrooper armor was designed to be immune to slugthrowers. You know, the same armor that's designed for intimidation as opposed to warfare, the same armor that's lightweight for mobility's sake. The same armor that is shown being broken by blunt force trauma from a blacksmithing tool, the same armor that allows the person wearing it to be knocked out by punching them. You're telling me that's bulletproof? That it's immune to fast projectiles designed to pierce armor, and have been shown damaging vehcles? I can defend a lot of the lore mistakes of Star Wars, but this one I can't do anything about.
Hope you read through this rant lmao. This is the type of thing that comes to mind when I'm trying to sleep, so I'm gonna get that out there.

2024.05.12 23:48 No_Jacket4523 Jedi robes

The iconic plain brown robes used by the Jedi Order, most often symbolizing unattachment and selfless compassion that Jedi are known for.
To exemplify this; before Jedi are about to duel an opponent with their lightsabers they shed their simple brown robe, letting it fall to the ground like its being discarded - like it has served its purpose and no longer has any use. And sometimes when the duel is long over, they never retrieve it from where they left it - further emphasizing their devotion to the Force and having no need for lavish apparel or investment in their overall appearance (as is the case with some real-life monastic faiths or religious orders).
So this got me thinking. I know Jedi have no need for attachment or possessions, or do not see the need for wealth in general due to primarily following the will of the Force and serving the people of the galaxy as guardians of peace and justice (or at least, that's what they were meant to do... right?). But with the amount of times those robes are just left behind after a duel/battle got me thinking: they got to be pretty expensive to keep replacing them, right? Like how many credits do the Jedi spend on ordering new robes for padawans, knights and even masters who lose their robes after a duel? Also taking into account, how much time and credits it takes to make those robes and even to aquire the materials they're made of (like are they made of regular wool or perhaps even bantha fur?), its got to be expensive right? I mean do the Jedi just have thousands of spare robes on hand or whenever someone loses one? So many questions, so little answers.
Anyway does anyone know, or has anyone else ever wondered this too?

2024.05.08 01:47 manicpixielover Lego Fortnite Star Wars Event

There are some good portions of the update, but for the most part, I think it is just another money grab by Epic, with little to no extra content worthy of extreme praise. I like the new Star Wars set builds, the presence of storm troopers, rebel fighters, and random NPC's however...
-The enemy NPC's in the caves are too easy, and too few, and the fact that they do not respawn without working the system (not completing the cave), it's a one and done area. -On many servers (including the one I am on, almost all of the imperial and rebel camps outside the caves, are vacant, so I don't understand the point. -The presence of imperial troops and rebels troops is scarce outside of the caves, and offer no real challenge or reason to kill them aside from building mats, the blaster rifles are nice touch, but most of the people I know or play with, refuse to use them -The star destroyer crash site, is void of any presence of imperial or rebel NPC's so, aside from saying you visited, seems to be a waste (and the fire seen from the other side of the map is a bit too dramatic, as there is very small fires of you actually visit) -The Star Wars area attached to the map is basically a zone with ancreased amount of wolves and Brutes. -After helping rebuild the rebel base, it really serves no purpose aside from being an occupied landmark. Nobody ever really goes and fights or investigates the Imperials activities like the Captain implies -On average, it takes an 1.5hrs to complete all the caves and setup the rebel camp, making the remaining purpose of the new area the same as the normal area, farming. -Quests are not shared in a way that everyone gets equal rewards (only the person who starts the event gets the free lightsaber) -Unless you pay for star wars Legos skins, there are no well known NPC's present, so for people who like to remanince on favorite characters from lore, you'll probably be disappointed.
Then again, have about 70 more days for the pass, there comes ld be overtime additions to the update area, quests, activities, increased imperial/rebel activity, enemy respawns in caves etc.
P.S. Epic really missed the opportunity to replace the Brutes in the Star Wars area with Rancors...

2024.05.06 23:42 One-Independent6043 Percabeth or Palpatine+anakin

Percabeth= Percy and Annabeth
BEFORE YOU CLICK PALPATINE + ANAKIN please read why Percabeth might have an advantage
  1. First of with the lightning, Percy is no stranger to it as he has been struck by it by Thalia 2 times, so the lightning Palpatine emits would be a threat to Percy. As for annabeth she should be able to handle the amount of lightning Palpatine uses as she is very smart and will probaly put something more conductive away from her.
  2. With the fact that lightsabers and cut metal, celestial bronze is different and so is Annabeth's dagger. So the lightsaber won't be able to cut celestial bronze in half as I believe that having real mass as a weapon gives Percy an advantage because it would be like a feather on fire smashing a piece of stone. Annabeth would probably hide behind Percy
  3. Percy has powers over water and can easily suck the blood out of Palpatine and Anakin because blood is 80% water
  4. Percy is swifter and a better sword duelist than Anakin, but maybe no Palpatine. But because Palpatine rarely uses lightsabers, he can only use lightning.

2024.05.06 22:00 Kahzgul [Near As I Can Tell...] Padawan Obi-wan Kit Reveal-wan!

[Near As I Can Tell...] Padawan Obi-wan Kit Reveal-wan!
I'm writing this kit reveal analysis from deep inside a protest encampment near a college campus I will not name out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well being of the other 40-something neckbeards camped out in solidarity. As I stand against the tyranny of Jar Jar Binks and his vile cadre of Gungan apologists, I am deeply moved by how many young people are also here chanting and singing on the campus proper (we're not allowed on - something about students only and what the fuck are we doing with all those lightsabers). I can't make out their words, but I can tell there is great enthusiasm among young people for the removal of Jar Jar. One of my fellow basement-dwellers flew a drone over and we didn't see a single pro-Jar Jar sign or banner or t-shirt or anything. So I assume we're like 100% united in this.
It's a wonderful feeling!
Further buoying my mood is the tremendous success that the Helldivers 2 community recently had, pushing back against the tyranny of mandatory account linking and other horrors that our community literally tolerates on the daily because we want those free reward boxes. Like, I'm sorry, but how fucking stupid is Sony for not just saying "we'll give you like 1 super credit or medal every day for free, forever, if you link your account to PSN?" It would cost them virtually nothing and people would have been throwing their panties at the screen trying to get the signups to happen more quickly.
I don't actually know how panties work, is what I'm saying.
And finally, there's the incredible news that the game I made an entire fake subreddit for in order to further mock EA and their insane pre-order nonsense has finally launched! I haven't played it yet, and the subreddit I made is still totally banned "for impersonation" because EA can't take a fucking April Fool's joke, but I chuckle to myself all the time at the thought that some actual EA employee is trying to make a subreddit for the game and finding it's already been made and banned. Or like, someone actually bought it and was all "i don't know how to beat the whatsit at the end of zone beeblebop" and tries to go to the game sub to look it up but OH SHIT THE GAME IS FUCKING BANNED. Amazing. It truly is an own-goal by EA that exists probably only in my mind.
Don't ruin this for me. I'm in a tent surrounded by dudes who've never seen a boob and bathed even less. IT'S ALL I HAVE.
Anyway, Obi-wan is here. Padaobiwan. Still too awkward to be a cool nickname. Pobiwan. Now it sounds like a star wars themed po' boy shop, which - you know - I'm kind of okay with. Pobiwan it is!
ALIGNMENT: Light Side
CATEGORIES: Attacker, Galactic Republic, Jedi
Okay, come the fuck on CG. Jedi??? HE'S A PADAWAN! The entire fucking point of the existence of padawans is THEY AREN'T JEDI YET. Holy shit. Do you even Star Wars, bro? At this point I would not at all be surprised if CG went back and gave Jedi Knight Anakin the rank of Master. We've jumped the shark here, people.
BASIC: Practiced Aggression
Final Text:
Deal Physical damage and inflict Potency Down on target enemy for 1 turn. If that enemy has 50% or more Health, Padawan Obi-Wan gains 20% Turn Meter and Foresight for 1 turn. Deal 5% more damage (stacking, max 50%) for each stack of Heal Over Time Padawan Obi-Wan has.
If there was an ally Master Qui-Gon at the start of battle: If target enemy has less than 50% Health, Padawan Obi-Wan gains Defense Penetration Up and Offense Up for 1 turn.
Just what we need: An ability where we have to keep track of how much health the enemy unit has. I guaranfuckingtee that there will be like a billion posts asking why Pobiwan isn't getting his bonus turn meter when attacking a low hp enemy. Don't be that guy. understand that this bonus only happens when the health bar is green. Yellow or red and your bonus is dead. You feel me?
SPECIAL 1: Redirected Blast (CD: 3)
Final Text:
Deal Physical damage to target enemy and Daze them for 2 turns. If this attack critically hits, remove 100% Turn Meter from target enemy and Padawan Obi-Wan gains 100 Speed for 2 turns.
This attack can't be evaded.
This is kind of insane. First, they buried the lede: you can't evade this. Amazing. Then it applies my favorite debuff, daze, AND it can remove all tm plus boost your speed massively? I'll be stacking crit chance sets on crit chance sets for Pobiwan fo' sho'! Gotta get them speed gains yo!
Why am I talking like this?
I feel like being surrounded by nerds is destroying my ability to think rationally. I feel a deep desire to be "cooler" than they are. I'm wearing several gold chains.
SPECIAL 2: Sweeping Assault (CD: 3)
Final Text:
Deal Physical damage and inflict Defense Down for 2 turns on all enemies, then if there is an active ally Queen Amidala, deal damage again.
Galactic Republic Jedi allies gain Critical Chance Up and Offense Up for 2 turns.
Kudos to CG for keeping all of these abilities short and sweet. This is a big fat buff to everyone and an AoE plus a decent debuff... I love it. Everything about this kit is so good. Unfortunately, I also just noticed the artwork, and it means I'm going to be staring at Pobiwan's pathetic excuse for a pony tail whenever I use him. This is almost as bad as a mullet, you guys. His hair looks like it was styled by a 60 year old gray-haired ice cream salesman from Ojai, California who wears Hawaiian t-shirts, puts avocado on everything, and loooooves the Grateful Dead. Not that there's anything wrong with any of that (don't @ me, u/egnards) but you know the type!
Seriously is Padawan hair just like that because of that thing where the new guy gets hazed by the older guys on the team and the jedi all sit around thinking "what's the dumbest fucking thing these kids' hair could possibly look like?" I mean, I've considered it, too. If my kid got lost it would be way easier to say "he has a haircut that makes him look like someone who peaked in 1974 got high on peyote and gave him a braid and a ponytail" than to actually remember what he was wearing (it's hard to remember things when you're high on peyote, I... uh... I've heard).
UNIQUE 1: Nobility in Restraint (Zeta, Omicron)
Final Text:
At the start of battle, Padawan Obi-Wan gains 25% Critical Chance for each other Galactic Republic ally and if there is an ally Master Qui-Gon and Queen Amidala, Padawan Obi-Wan gains Discipline until the end of battle which can't be copied, dispelled, or resisted.
Padawan Obi-Wan has +5% Critical Chance (stacking, max 50%) for each stack of Heal Over Time on him and +5% Critical Damage (stacking, max 50%) for each stack of Protection Over Time on him.
If there is an ally Master Qui-Gon, whenever he uses an ability, Padawan Obi-Wan assists dealing 40% less damage. The first time Master Qui-Gon is defeated, Padawan Obi-Wan takes a bonus turn and gains 5% Offense for each Relic Amplifier level Master Qui-Gon had for 4 turns.
If there is an active Handmaiden Decoy, Padawan Obi-Wan grants her 50% Defense. If Padawan Obi-Wan is active, whenever another ally is critically hit, they gain Defense Up for 1 turn and Padawan Obi-Wan gains Critical Damage Up for 1 turn.
Discipline: Attacks can't be countered; whenever this character gains a stack of Protection Over Time they also gain a stack of Heal Over Time for 2 turns; this character's attacks ignore Protection
While in Conquests: Allies gain 10% Max Health and Max Protection and 30 Speed. Allies gain an additional 10% Max Health and Max Protection for each Relic Amplifier level Padawan Obi-Wan has. Cut the Offense of Sith enemies in half until the end of battle.
Padawan Obi-Wan has a 50% chance to take a bonus turn whenever an enemy ends their turn. When Padawan Obi-Wan starts this bonus turn, allies recover 75% Health, gain 75% Offense for 2 turns, and enemies are inflicted with Buff Immunity and Healing Immunity for 2 turns, which can't be resisted.
If Padawan Obi-Wan's Stamina is 50% or greater: Whenever an ally uses a Special ability, they inflict Accuracy Down, Critical Chance Down, Critical Damage Down, Defense Down, Evasion Down, Offense Down, Potency Down, Speed Down, Stagger, and Tenacity Down on target enemy for 2 turns, which can't be evaded.
Oh my fucking god. I JUST said how much I appreciated the brevity of these abilities! Like, CG, can you FUCKING NOT for like ONE GODDAMN CHARACTER??? Holy shit. CG looked at this ability, slapped its hood, and thought "we can fit so many goddamn paragraphs in this fucking thing."
Okay, so Pobiwan gains a shitload of crit chance, meaning you don't need to mod him for crit chance. Crit damage it is! He also assists MQG (where did the J go? No one knows), and he gets a little mini-bane bonus when MQG dies (IMO this could be insane if they made it apply to oQGJ as well, but CG hates interesting team comps now so pffft to us, I guess).
And Pobiwan gets bonuses in conquests. This a goddamn omicron ability? OF COURSE IT FUCKING IS. Don't read any of that; no one is ever going to get that omicron.
Okay maybe I lied. This omicron basically makes winning guaranteed, and also applies a metric fuckton of debuffs which you just fucking know the next conquest series will require. Accuracy Down, Critical Chance Down, Critical Damage Down, Defense Down, Evasion Down, Offense Down, Potency Down, Speed Down, Stagger, and Tenacity Down? Oh yeah, CG is gonna lean HARD into those. Watch for my conquest guide where I explain that you could instead use like 19 other characters to do what this one little asshole does with that omicron you really didn't want to spend.
Yeah, I'm almost certainly buying this thing. Fuck.
I'm so annoyed I forgot to wrap up my "pretending to be cool" / living in a tent with other nerds jokes. Can't be assed now; this sheezy just got REAL you know? For real for real. AND WHAT IS THAT GODDAMN SMELL HOLY SHI- Oh. It's me. I heard diapers were trending and did no further research before just buying like a bazillion of them.
----
Here's an index of my stuff.
Here's a link to Egnard's discord where you can see my stuff linked in a different way and also I've started roasting people's rosters because I get bored and I'm an asshole.
Here's a fun quote completely out of context:

2024.05.06 06:32 Naturalnumbers Thoughts on each of the movies from someone who isn't a huge Star Wars fan

I recently went through all of the movies with my wife (who is much more of a SW fan than me) with more of an eye for how they work as movies rather than a particular idea about how the characters should act based on the expanded universe or other preconceived notions. I also don't really care about plot inconsistencies. For background, I've seen the original trilogy quite a few times, the prequels a couple times, and had only seen the newer movies once. This was my first viewing for The Rise of Skywalker. I've never watched any of the shows, and I think I read part of one of the books back in elementary school in the 1990s. I do quite enjoy a few of the games (KOTOR 1/2 and the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games). But I'm more of a fantasy or harder sci-fi fan, Star Wars just doesn't mean as much to me personally compared to something like Lord of the Rings or Star Trek. So, thoughts:
A New Hope: This movie's actually really interesting in how it's structured, with Luke not showing up until almost a quarter through the movie. It's also the only one really limited by budget constraints. The story is quite simple but the real draw IMO is the aesthetics. Sound, music, color, designs, and special effects are all really knocking it out of the park. The lower budget really accentuates the creativity.
The Empire Strikes Back: Takes a lot of the great qualities of the previous movie and adds a solid script and a big budget. Even more than the previous movie, there's a really big fun factor here with the action and character interactions. It's not an unpopular opinion by any means but I think this movie does everything right for this kind of story.
Return of the Jedi: This movie really does not hold up as well as the others compared to my memory of it. I don't remember Endor being as boring as it seemed on this viewing, and I don't just mean the Ewoks being difficult to take seriously. The tone goes pretty hard in a direction I'm not into. It still has its emotional moments, but I feel like it isn't living up to its potential. The writing and acting is pretty heavy-handed in a lot of places. Still has quite a bit of cool stuff.
The Phantom Menace: This one actually holds up a bit better than I remembered. Coming from Star Trek, I might have more tolerance for wooden acting and slower pacing because I don't really get the hate. The big contrast with the OT is that this seems a lot more interested in exploring the society of Star Wars. So much so far has been focused in military installations, so seeing the cities/palaces of the Naboo and Gungans, slums of Tatooine, and the metropolis of Coruscant is a neat change. I've heard people say to skip this one because it's "not relevant to the plot" but I think that's a pretty big mistake, as it introduces a lot of how this pre-Empire world works. Jar Jar didn't annoy me that much, I guess my brain just tunes him out. If I were to guess the biggest reason why the prequels get the hate they get, it would be that the OT holds up as mainstream prestige action, where the prequels are better appreciated as "genre movies" that you need to be in the right mindset for.
The Attack of the Clones: Again I think George Lucas was going for "let's do something very different" here, with a romance plot and a mystery plot. The romance is awful but actually crosses over into "so bad it's good" territory for me, as there are a lot of lines and shots that work as comedy. I think the action on Kamino is pretty good, and some of it on Geonosis is good too. Personally big battle scenes almost never make much of an impact on me unless they really work the tone, because it usually just turns into a bunch of noise. The final face off with Count Dooku only really works as comedy for me, but it does work pretty well at that. So I think if you don't take things seriously at all this can be an enjoyable movie.
The Revenge of the Sith: I don't know that I enjoy this as much as a lot of people do, because the prequels for me work best as fun schlock, and this relies pretty heavily on the more serious tone. I think I come down on enjoying this best as a very operatic story to help sell some of the somewhat unrealistic character actions. The cinematography and editing are a step up from the previous movies. I imagine this is a great one if you're really into the shows from this era which would lend it more weight. Ewan MacGregor and John Williams elevate the heck out of this movie.
The Force Awakens: There are a lot of aspects of this movie that haven't aged well, especially in light of the following movies, but on its own I think it still has a lot going for it. The characters all have arcs and some degree of motivation (I still am not quite sure what Kylo Ren's problem is, yes the next movie shows his conflict with Luke but also states that he had issues before that). The plot progression is honestly astoundingly uninspired but the production is quite strong. Han's death is definitely the most emotionally resonant moment of these newer movies. The cinematography is great, and John Williams introduced a variety of themes that really work well. It's a lot of CGI but holds up pretty well considering it's almost a decade old.
The Last Jedi: I remember people lost their minds over this movie, and I've looked up some of the criticism and this is where I think I disagree with the fanbase the most, because the biggest problem people seem to have is the storyline with Luke, which is my favorite part of the movie, lol. I like that he fights completely defensively and successfully, both against Ren and Rey (and he does beat her when they fight, he disarms her when they're fighting with sticks and she cheats by drawing a lightsaber). I can start to full the press of some bad plotting, but I have no problem enjoying movies with totally nonsensical plots as long as what's happening on screen is interesting. I quite like the dynamic between Rey and Ren, both trying to define themselves in this new world. There is even possibly the most interesting thematic conception of the Dark and Light side of the force, with Rey and the Light side seeking connection (her parents) and Ren and the Dark side seeking destruction and independence. IDK, I really liked KOTOR 2 which also had this deconstruction of the Jedi so I'm not as put off by it as some people seem to be. Unfortunately everything outside of Rey's story is pretty muddled. Finn is supposed to be learning about the value of "saving what you love" rather than "destroying what you hate"... but hasn't he been entirely driven by saving either himself or saving Rey this entire time? And Poe's arc about recklessness could be interesting, but I don't really get how he's supposed to learn it. Now, I normally wouldn't care much about this but more than any of the other movies this one is focused on themes, so if the themes aren't working, and the plot doesn't hold up... you don't have much. Visuals are decent but sadly I think this is the least interesting soundtrack so far, I even went into this re-view with an intent to pay attention to the music and didn't leave with anything memorable.
The Rise of Skywalker: Maybe this would change with another viewing but boy this one really just doesn't work for me. As mentioned I can put up with plot contrivances (though that tolerance was put to the test) but the real killer here is the pacing and editing. Because almost nothing landed. Even the Kylo Ren turn to the Light Side just seemed abrupt, even with all the pieces there for a good scene. Maybe worst of all, the action wasn't good for me, because it might just be that I'm getting old but without a good visual foundation, action scenes just seem like meaningless noise. I think this movie needed to cut about 70% of the plot and focus in on the important things. The only thing I liked was the vibes with the Emperor, he felt like an evil sorcerer out of a fantasy story mixed with sci-fi tech. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with so much production value but so little to enjoy, because it is shot and edited in such a way as to make it all but impossible to really engage with it. I'll say this movie did show me that I definitely enjoy a movie that's too slow rather than one that's too fast. But this really could just be an age thing for me, these thoughts are pretty similar to what older critics said about the original Star Wars when it first came out. But I can usually follow and appreciate modern action movies just fine so I don't think it's just me. Acting performances are fine in all the newer movies but they are barely given scenes to work with in this one.
Rogue One and Solo: I have the same thoughts about both of these. They're both basically on the same level as average Marvel movies, which to me means that there are a lot of scenes that the filmmakers had fun with, the writing is pretty cookie-cutter but mostly competent if you focus on the characters, and there's a ton of production value. These both move pretty quickly but not nearly as quickly as The Rise of Skywalker, so there's time to appreciate a lot of the thought that went into them. Even if there's way too much fan service they're pretty good fun adventure movies. Though I just compared them to Marvel movies in their production, I do think these kinds of movies in a Star Wars setting have a more potential, because I personally find the Superhero genre to be a lot more limited. Which is probably one big reason the Guardians of the Galaxy movies stand out so much in the MCU.
So, overall, I think there's a lot of variety in what to enjoy here if you have a flexible mindset. I don't think a lot of these deserve as much hate as they get but that's coming at it without expectations. I'm tempted to advise loosening expectations a bit with world consistency but that does come with some drawbacks (a world without definition starts to lose its character). We have Andor on the to-watch list which seems my speed.
What I'm curious about is: What sorts of movies would you like to see made? More low-key adventures, or more epic? More traditional, or more exploratory/subversive? Stuff in the future of the chronology, or stuff in the past, or exploring periods in between? I get there are a billion shows but I'm just interested in movies here.

2024.05.06 05:42 Strict_External678 Tulak Hord Chapter 2

The months after his success on the rebellious world made Tulak a rising star, the darling of the Sith war machine. Troopers and lesser acolytes whispered his name with a mix of awe and dread. Even members of the Dark Council, in their shadowed enclaves, began to take notice of the young prodigy.
Tulak relished the moment, drank in the accolades and the fear—each victory took him a step closer along the path to glory and ultimate power. And yet, always there was Zythus, looming over him like some great shadow, a reminder that Tulak's ambitions were not his own just yet.
The older Sith watched with hooded eyes as his apprentice rose; his thoughts were unreadable behind a mask of cold control. In public, he played the proud master, extolling Tulak's skill and dedication to the cause. In private, though, the cracks in their relationship widened into a chasm.
Things would come to a head, however, on the eve of their greatest victory. It was the last bastion of resistance for the Rebels on this world key to the whole conflict; it was under siege by the Sith Fleet. Tulak and Zythus prepared their forces to crush the insurgents once and for all. From the bridge of the flagship, Tulak looked down on the planet. His mind was filled with visions of conquest. At his side stood Khem Val, his Dashade, an insubstantial reminder of his own strength.
"We have them now," Tulak murmured, his eyes tracking the distant flares of turbolaser fire. "One last push, and this world will be ours."
Zythus moved to join him, dark robes whispering against the deck. "Yes," the elder Sith said, voice flat and cold, "And you will lead the charge, my apprentice. The Council has decreed it." Words like those made Tulak's heart leap in a ferocious joy; to be the tip of the spear, to take this victory for himself, he had a chance for glory beyond his wildest dreams.
But as Tulak turned to face his master, he saw something in Zythus' eyes that gave him pause. A flicker of something black and dangerous, a jealousy so near to hatred. "You have done well, Tulak," Zythus said, his voice silken and soft. "Perhaps too well. Some on the Council whisper that you have outgrown your master. That it is time for you to take your rightful place." There, Tulak shivered with the chilling foreboding of something ominous, for so long he'd dreamt of this moment, of the time when he would be able to surpass Zythus and claim what was rightfully his, but spoken aloud, here and now.
"Master," he said with great care, watching the face of Zythus for any indication of the true desire, "I am your faithful apprentice and want nothing else but to serve the Empire, to learn only at your feet." Zythus laughed, but it was completely lacking in any humor. "Pretty words, Tulak. But we both know the truth. You hunger for power as any real Sith should. And there is only one Lord of the Sith."
The lightsaber blazed instantly in Zythus' hand, a bloody light in his grasp, casting its crimson blade light across the bridge. Tulak leaped back from him, and his own saber flew to his grasp. The crew, around them, suddenly found urgent tasks at their stations. "So, it's come to this," Tulak said, cold and hard in his voice. "After all these years, all I've done for you…"
"All you have done for yourself," Zythus growled, stalking his apprentice like a hungrier, smarter nexu. "Did you think I could not see it? Your ambition, your hunger? You would devour me whole and pick your teeth with my bones!" Tulak shook his head, a grim smile playing on his lips. "Not whole, old man. I thought perhaps to leave you an arm, or a leg. Something to remember me by in your dotage."
With a wordless cry of rage, Zythus leapt forward, his blade slashing at Tulak's head. The younger Sith parried the blow, the force of the impact sending shockwaves down his arm. And then they were lost in the dance of battle, master and apprentice, locked in a whirling dervish of plasma and hate.
They dueled back and forth across the span, blades painting the air with shimmering afterimages. Consoles exploded in sprays of sparks as errant strikes slashed through delicate electronics. Khem Val himself watched from the sidelines, knowing better than to interfere in this most sacred of Sith rituals.
He could feel the power of the dark side flowing through him, a force of nature that would sweep him away if he let it. He guided it into his blade, into his muscles, releasing it to lend fire to his assault. But Zythus was a master for a reason, and he met Tulak's fury with an icy precision born of decades of experience.
Slowly, inexorably, Zythus drove Tulak back, scoring glancing hits on the younger Sith's arms and legs. Tulak grit his teeth against the pain, refusing to give. But he could feel his strength waning, his reserves running dry.
Desperate now, Tulak reached out with the Force in one final gambit, seizing hold of one of the shattered consoles and flinging it at Zythus' head. The elder Sith batted the projectile aside with contemptuous ease—but in doing so, he left himself open for a split second.
That was all Tulak needed. Leaping forward with a victorious roar, he knocked Zythus' blade aside and buried his own saber deep in his master's chest. The eyes of Zythus widened with shock and pain, his mouth working wordlessly.
"You have outstripped me," he panted, blood bubbling on his lips. "My Tulak drew the blade out, looking on without emotion as Zythus fell to the deck. He could feel the eyes of the bridge crew on him—a mix of fear and awe. They had seen the ancient Sith ritual the holy transfer of power. And they now knew who their true master was. "The rebels await, my lord," Khem Val rumbled, impatience rising in the silence that had overcome the great hall. "Shall we show them the price of defiance?"
Tulak nodded, his face splitting in a savage grin. "Yes, Khem. Let us finish what we started. And then."
He turned to the window, his eyes bright with fierce ambition. ".then the galaxy will be ours for the taking."

2024.05.05 17:49 Usern4me_R3dacted205 I saw The Phantom Menace twice for May the 4th in two different cinemas.

I saw The Phantom Menace twice for May the 4th in two different cinemas.
My view at the BFI IMAX
It was a unique experience seeing this movie not only on two different screens but also with two different crowds. One with more general audience members and the other with hardcore fans.
The first viewing was at the BFI IMAX in Southbank, London which was a great experience. Not much else to add there. After the credits there was a preview for The Acolyte with a pretty cool looking fight scene involving Carrie-Anne Moss and Amandla Stenberg's characters.
The real pièce de résistance of the affair though was the second viewing at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. It was the textbook definition of a late night showing. Rowdy as hell in the best possible way. A bunch of people dressed for the occasion including one woman who went as Aurra Sing which was a more than pleasent surprise. There was definitely an awareness of how ridiculous parts of it were while still loving it wholeheartedly. Never in my lifetime did I expect to hear a crowd full of laughter at Jar Jar Binks. When Chancellor Valorum showed up, some guy in the crowd suddenly shouted "Kneel before Zod!" which got a big laugh. Oh and the meme lines all got great hearty laughs. When Mace Windu asked if the master or the apprentice was destroyed and the camera pans over to Palpatine, the was a unanimous "sinister chuckle" from the audience. There was also a ton of cheering at multiple points. The highlights were Anakin winning the podrace and Maul's entrance for the final fight which everyone fucking ROARED at when it finally happened which was followed by another cheer when he lit up his lightsaber. The actor's names in the credits also got a cheer although the biggest went to John Williams. The final cheer of the evening came at the very end from the people I convinced to stay behind to hear Darth Vader's breathing.
It's both interesting and heartwarming to see how people's view of this movie has changed over 25 years (of which I've only been around for 24 & 1/2 of). To go from growing up watching it at home while my parents cut my hair to seeing it with a crowd of people just as nostalgic for it was a really special experience and a great remind of why I love Star Wars.

2024.05.05 14:35 ctdca Episode I is the best Star Wars film outside of the original trilogy.

It still feels like Star Wars, which a lot of the later movies do not. It utilizes a lot of real sets, it has some very cool, interesting sequences (pod race, final lightsaber battle), a memorable villain (Maul) and actually feels like it’s laying the groundwork for a grand story to play out (even if that story ended up a disappointment). Overall it’s not terrible.

2024.05.05 12:47 jdignon Calling All Real Jedi to Renounce Their Lightsabers

I don’t know why they call them lightsabers. If you use them to harm other sentient beings, they’re the heaviest things you can carry. That’s why I’m challenging Disney and all real jedi out there to renounce their lightsabers and the violence they represent.
I love Obi-Wan Kenobi, but I’ll never go drinking with him again. Last time we went out to the cantina, he cut off another dude’s arm!
Every bouncer on Earth knows a million better ways to de-escalate Ponda Baba’s aggression, and yet Obi-Wan Kenobi, a master jedi, cripples him for life in an instant. Humans do the same thing to each other every day, but with guns and bombs. Shouldn’t we expect more wisdom and subtlety from a jedi when it comes to resolving conflicts at a bar?
When you examine how he lived, it turns out that Obi-Wan Kenobi is an incredibly violent man, not a jedi. Ewan McGregor is ten times the jedi Obi-Wan was–if you gave Ewan McGregor a lightsaber and told him to de-escalate a situation at a bar, I bet he wouldn’t chop off some dude’s arm.
Yes, Obi-Wan did offer to buy Ponda Baba a beer. Why didn’t he also shout out that he’d buy a round for the whole bar? The place would have went nuts. Nobody would have been hurt. Jedi should be bribing people all the time. Bribing’s more ethical than a mind trick that’s for sure.
Do you think that jedi don’t know how to make money? A lot of money? Why cut off a man’s arm when you can cut that man a check?
How about lifting him off the ground with the force? Or asking Chewbacca to step in front of you and cross his arms? That would’ve settled Doctor Cornelius Evazan down real quick.
A true jedi would know this. A true jedi would use the force to find a million ways to make a million allies from a million enemies. Yet all we have after Obi-Wan’s naked aggression is a bloody arm lying on the cantina floor.
I know lightsabers are cool. But it’s not cool to harm people--not even real pieces of sith. Here’s a few suggestions on things a real jedi would buy in lieu of a lightsaber.
  1. An electric toothbrush
Dental health is mental health. Look at Darth Maul’s teeth. No wonder he was so violent. The man was in constant pain. He probably had a low grade brain infection–this explains how such an otherwise gifted gymnast and martial artist would become so bloodthirsty.
  1. A vibrator
You don’t have to know R2-D2 to become intimately acquainted with a cylindrical droid that brings near unceasing joy. This goes for you fellas too. It’s hard to think about chopping some old dude’s hands off when you’ve just had a prostate-stimulated orgasm that made your dopamine receptors blow up like Alderaan.
  1. Any musical instrument
John Williams is one of the most powerful jedi in the galaxy. Why make someone fear the hum of your lightsaber, when you can instead make them love humming one of your tunes? Music is a jedi’s friend. All musical instruments are lightsabers that can’t hurt anyone.
  1. A fishing pole
Did you know that they make biodegradable fish hooks now? Don’t chop me in half! Take me fishing. All fishers are jedi. They know that all of our bad feelings–our anger, and our fear, and our hatred–are just like fish. Catch them, examine them, then release them.
  1. A pocket knife
A pocket knife is a lightsaber. Carry one with you when you can. May I suggest the Victorinox Spartan (that’s also my space ship’s name). It has a corkscrew. Once you’re the person who brought a corkscrew to a party where everybody brought wine but no corkscrew, then by God you are a jedi. People will tell you that!
Carve the bark off the end of a branch and plop a marshmallow on there. A real jedi can set a bone, roast a marshmellow, and tell a spooky story to her stepkids all in the same night.
These are just some of the many options that jedi have available to them besides weapons and violence.
Do you know why lightsaber fights are boring now? It’s not because lightsaber dueling isn’t cool. It’s because we know that the jedi can do better. We know that a jedi who resorts to violence is not a jedi. They’re someone who’s hurt, angry, and scared, and they’re out to make other people hurt, angry, and scared too.
Trust me Disney--having jedi renounce their lightsabers won’t lose you money or diminish the power of the narrative. Rather, by making jedi non-violent yet exquisite practitioners of the force, the narrative will grow exponentially more interesting and rousing.
“If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine,”--Jesus Christ to the Roman Empire, also Obi-Wan Kenobi
Luke should have been the first jedi to renounce violence and dismantle his lightsaber. He was only 19 years old when he killed 1.5 million people. It would have made him depressed and hate violence, just as it does to many of our veterans today.
Darth Vader was defeated when Luke decided not to use a lightsaber to kill him. When Luke saw the good in Darth Vader, then that’s when Darth Vader was killed, and that’s when Anakin learned that he could breathe again.
This was George Lucas’s point all along. Hate and violence and weapons and slaughter are not the way of the jedi and the force. But I feel that keeping lightsabers integral to jedi and their way of life sends a harmful, self destructive message.
I know some of you feel you need to buy weapons for self defense, or to have on hand in case you need to destroy an evil enemy. And that’s fine, I can’t stop you. But if you buy, sell, make, or profit from weaponry, then you are not a jedi. Go be a stormtrooper. The Empire needs people like you. Empires always do.
But if you want to be a jedi, then cast your deadly weapons to the side and become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. Use the force.
The force is love.
May the force be with you.

2024.05.04 21:44 zackandcodyfan Some random thoughts after attending the 25th anniversary screening of "The Phantom Menace"

Some random thoughts after attending the 25th anniversary screening of
As a long time Star Wars fan who had never watched this movie on the big screen before, given that it came out when I was 15 months old, I'm incredibly glad I decided to go see the special anniversary screening at my local cinema. The six original Star Wars films were an important part of my childhood and it's super cool I got to relive a part of that nostalgia. Needless to say, even though I've seen this movie too many times to count, attending a theatrical screening was much more exciting and intense than watching it at home.
Here are a few notes on the film itself and the experience I had:
  • I had expected the screening I attended to be fuller, but there were hardly any people there. Only about a dozen in total, not counting myself, and my parents whom I took along.
  • This film still holds up well today. The locations, special effects and costume design all look incredible for a film released in 1999, and I honestly think it deserves more credits for its contributions to the advancement of CGI animation. Shoutout to the sound design as well.
  • Seeing that famous Star Wars title crawl pop up on the big screen always gets me incredibly hyped. It's an important part in all the saga films and it immediately takes you right back into the Star Wars universe.
  • I never really considered how sinister Palpatine's scheme actually is. Keep in mind he's from Naboo, being elected by the people there to represent them in the Galactic Senate, yet he secretly orchestrates an illegal occupation of his home planet by the Trade Federation, meaning his own people will suffer in the process, just so he can manipulate the Senate into electing him as Supreme Chancellor in order to "solve" a conflict he created in the first place. He's an evil criminal mastermind who will go to any lengths to further his political career, and it's thrilling to see him construct this elaborate web of lies throughout the prequel trilogy.
  • The George Lucas era of Star Wars had some amazing worldbuilding, and this movie is a great example of that. Coruscant looks breathtaking with its panoramic skyscrapers, and the underwater Gungan city is arguably one of the coolest, most unique looking sci-fi locations ever conceived.
  • The movie devotes a lot of time to developing its characters. Every main character gets at least two or three shining moments, which is really cool.
  • Jar-Jar gets a bad rap. His back-and-forth banter with the much more calm and serious Qui-Gon is legitimately hilarious.
  • Qui-Gon Jinn has to be one of my favourite characters in all of Star Wars. Unlike the other Jedi, who are rather dogmatic, he's cunning, rebellious and unpredictable. While he's shown to also be kind and empathetic, he certainly isn't unwilling to bend the rules a little if he finds the ends to justify the means, which is a nice change of pace.
  • Sebulba is just the alien equivalent of a Pokémon rival and you can't convince me otherwise.
  • How did Anakin get that bruise on his left arm? It's just there for some reason when Qui-Gon collects a blood sample from him, but the movie doesn't show him getting injured.
  • Even though Watto mocks Qui-Gon by asking him if he thinks he's "some kind of Jedi" after the latter unsuccessfully tries to mind-trick him, the Toydarian seems to be entirely oblivious of the fact that Qui-Gon is actually a real Jedi, which is probably a good thing, because otherwise he might have noticed that Qui-Gon was using a Jedi trick to manipulate the dice.
  • Also the fact that Anakin suddenly remembers he's never actually passed the finish line and decides to casually mention it when everyone is already depending on him winning the race.
  • No matter how many times you've seen it, the pod race never stops being exciting. The entire buildup to it creates so much tension and anticipation that watching the race itself feels oddly rewarding afterwards. Seeing that iconic Star Wars moment on the big screen was something else. Again, shoutout to the sound design.
  • Watto is a sore loser, and Qui-Gon's line right after: "Would you like to discuss it with the Hutts? I'm sure they can settle this" is a deliciously cold and subtle threat. I'll be sure to quote this from now on whenever I get into an argument with someone.
  • Some time during the second act, I got popcorn stuck in my teeth, which was annoying. It didn't ruin my enjoyment of this film in any way though.
  • "The boy is dangerous. They all sense it, why can't you?" — Obi-Wan to Qui-Gon, giving zero fucks that Anakin is standing right behind them
  • My heart actually started pounding during the final Darth Maul duel, even though I already knew the outcome. It's a gripping fight scene, stunningly choreographed yet raw and intense, with an element of real danger, and once again, seeing it unfold at a theatrical screening elevated it to a whole new level for me. It has to be one of my favourite lightsaber battles.
  • While not as great as the Maul duel, Anakin destroying the Trade Federation Droid Control Ship is still a very cool sequence. I've always found it to be a neat callback (or foreshadowing, depending on your viewing order) of the iconic Death Star Trench Run in A New Hope. Like father, like son. (Can I also say I think Anakin and R2-D2 have a very cute and funny chemistry and it would have been cool to have more scenes of the two interacting.)
  • Got a bit emotional during Qui-Gon's death scene. Don't judge me.
  • People like to complain about this movie being too childish, but it's kind of silly when you consider that most of these complaints are coming of adults, who are clearly not the intended target audience. There was a family sitting in the seat row in front of me, a young boy and a young girl with who I assume was their mother. The mom looked mildly entertained, but her children were absolutely invested, paying attention to every scene, laughing and cheering at the right moments, which is remarkable given the film's extended length. They found Jar-Jar funny and endearing, thought Darth Maul was intimidating and cool, and rooted for Anakin when he destroyed the Trade Federation ship. I know some fans prefer the more mature storytelling in other Star Wars media and that's perfectly valid, but if you're a kid (or a grown-up kid like me), there's a lot to love and appreciate in The Phantom Menace.
  • John Williams's score is obviously phenomenal, and hearing it blast loudly through the speakers of the cinema was indescribable. Duel of the Fates has to be one of his greatest compositions. When the credits rolled, the aforementioned family remained glued to their seats just to hear the music. Anakin's Theme is another wonderful piece, and I love how at the cadence of every phrase, the first few notes of The Imperial March are played in a major key, subtly hinting at Anakin's future. Speaking of foreshadowing, at the end of the credits, after the music has stopped, you quietly hear the Darth Vader's breathing. My dad and I actually looked at each other and grinned when we heard it. If you know, you know.
Feel free to let me know your thoughts. What do you think of The Phantom Menace, and does it hold any special meaning to you? Are there any anniversary screenings near your area, and did you attend one or are you planning to?
May the 4th be with you!

2024.05.04 21:33 Rewrite_the_Universe Along time ago in a Fan Fiction far, far away…

Happy May 4th everyone!!
What if chakra is actually the Force, and the Naruto timeline actually takes place after the Star Wars films? And the Ōtsutsuki Clan is a race of force sensitives? And Kaguya was not passing on the actual energy itself to her sons, but her sensitivity to it?
I know, there’s a lot of unanswered questions in this idea; How did Hagoromo help others become Force sensitive? Which galaxy does Naruto’s world exist? In the canon Star Wars? Or a galaxy far, far away? Is there Star Wars tech? Will Naruto be able to go to other worlds? Are there going to be droids?!
And I’m sure many more that I can’t think of. But that’s the fun of world building, figuring all this stuff out.
One thing I am certain about, if I am to write this idea out, at least for myself personally. The fanfic wouldn’t be a complete crossover, instead the lore of the Star Wars franchise (Maybe all canon, maybe some of the non-canon) will be used as a mysterious forgotten history, that Naruto and his allies searches to uncover. So there would not be any real crossover, where Naruto and his friends don’t meet characters from Star Wars, maybe Yoda or Luke as Force ghosts, but no real interactions.
But what will be definitive, the crystal necklace Tsunade gave Naruto? Yeah, that’s a Kyber crystal, so Naruto would definitely be getting a lightsaber.

Star Wars Custom Lightsabers
Why can’t we get the original lightsabers like yoda or darth maul and so on. Why can’t we get custom lightsabers let us make our own and change it like that one pickaxe we had. I know they would have to take out the limited time real abilities with the lightsabers but idc I want to mix and match lightsabers have Superman use a blue lightsaber or have Kratos use a red lightsaber.
Not my images but still I would love these options I would even pay $10 a lightsaber

[This theory does not apply to disney canon, but based on the old Original Universe]
(I am just an old Star Wars fan - before the "Disney era" - I got motivation from my favorite sci-fi writer; Isaac Asimov - who was one of the pioneers of science fiction - like Tolkien in the fantasy world - and the SW universe and other science fiction works are largely based on his works. So that's why this theory was born in my head.)
My theory starting with an alternative storyboard;
Windu is about to strike Palpatine with a fatal blow, meanwhile the chancellor begs Anakin to save him and claims that without his help Padmé will die. Anakin is tormented by doubts, but then he hears Padmé's voice in his head. Padmé senses Anakin's struggle and confirms to Anakin that Palpatine is a lying impostor. That's why when Palpatine pleads for Anakin's help, the Jedi does nothing, as he doesn't even hear Palpatine's voice. Windu raises his lightsaber and prepares for a fatal blow, but then a red lightsaber pierces his chest from behind. Palpatine was also prepared for the last moment, so he hid his spare lightsaber and used the force to direct it into Windu's chest. Windu collapses as Palpatine laughs mockingly and kicks Windu to the ground. Anakin takes Windu's body in his hands as the dying Jedi Master says: "Forgive me, Anakin, for I did not believing in you."
Anakin then picks up Windu's lightsaber and ignites it along with his own, then points it at Palpatine. Palpatine still mocks Anakin's weakness and tries to convince him that "You are doomed to fall, on the side of the Jedi and without my help Padmé will die”. He offers Anakin that if he joins him on the dark side, in addition to saving Padmé's life, he can gain infinite power and immortality. But Anakin says, "I am the Chosen One. My job is to destroy the Sith, not to join them." Then, with extreme speed and strenght, he pierces the Sith's chest with both lightsabers, then cuts off his head in the next moment. With this act, Anakin "apparently" fulfilled the "prophecy" that he was the Chosen One who would bring peace to the Galaxy. Anakin then contacts Obi-Wan to come to Coruscant immediately.
Let's say Palpatine dies, just as in the "What if...?" version above. But what happens after with the Galactic Republic?
I guided a theoretical plane, taking into account several aspects, which, among other things, relies on both original galactic history and real human history. I thought about what political, economic, and social changes could happen if the Galactic Empire did not come into being, but at the same time the CIS remained, with which the Republic would make peace or perhaps continue the war, which would mean significant further losses for both sides (especially the Republic) and in the end there would be no winner on either side, only ruins, destruction and billions of dead. In addition, it had to be taken into account that the whole war itself was actually controlled by none other than one person from the background, through his own servants. The Separatists had their own motives for wanting to secede from the Republic. It is precisely because of political corruption, constant internal dissension and inadequate economic management. There have been many examples of malfunctions in the "republican machinery" that collapses into itself in the absence of sufficiently strong political leadership - because the Galactic Republic is not a functioning state formation without sufficiently strong leadership. That is why the Separatists looked up to such strong and charismatic leaders as e.g. Count Dooku, General Grievous or Lord Sidious. The possible vision I have outlined is based on exactly these, as well as on the example that has been repeated many times in reality, in human history, and is being repeated to this day (the best example of this is the Roman Empire, which fell not because of the barbarian conquests, but because the system itself was rotten from the inside and collapsed because of this).
So here is my theory concept (based on the Original, non-disney Universe): Palpatine, aka. Lord Sidious is dead. But the Separatist Wars not have ended at the push of a button. Since Palpatine controlled both sides and when the Separatist leaders having lost Count Dooku and General Grievous, were at a considerable disadvantage in the absence of a sufficiently strong and effective leadership, so they could only rely directly on the guidance of Sidious, who also died. The separatist leaders, who had previously been sent by Grievous to Mustafar, sat and waited for the next order, in vain.
When Obi-Wan arrived, Anakin told him all about how the Sith Lord had manipulated both sides and how he had fooled the Jedi Council all along. Obi-Wan then sent a message to all Jedi Masters across the Galaxy and called them back for an "emergency council" to analyze the current situation. The end result; At Anakin's suggestion, Padmé Amidala (both as the official representative of the planet Naboo, Palpatine's home planet, and as Palpatine's "temporary" surrogate successor) is appointed to the vacant chancellor position. Padmé reveals to the Senate and provides evidence that Palpatine was actually a Sith Lord who pulled strings on both the Senate and separatist leaders. At first, the Senate expresses disbelief at the accusations, even in the face of the evidence, since it is not easy to believe that the primary leader of the Galactic Republic was a double-game Sith Lord, but then the Jedi Council, headed by the greatest Jedi Masters, intervenes and effectively corroborates Padmé Amidala's claims, so the Senate finally accepts the facts. The next step; Chancellor Amidala contacts the Separatist Leadership and initiates negotiations with them regarding ending the war. The negotiations finally end in peace between the Separatist leaders and the representatives of the Republic, thus putting an end to the war. However, this peace is only apparent, as the Republic was extremely damaged by the war, and it also lost several economic and industrial areas, which were now under the control of the Confederation of Independent Systems. As a result, the Republic was economically weakened, which gradually began to have an effect on everyday life as well.
Although there was a peaceful trade relationship between the Republic and the CIS, over time the Republic descended into a serious economic crisis. This meant that everything that had been readily available until then could only be purchased expensively or not at all. As living standards deteriorated, corruption grew, meaning that some individuals (including political leaders) began doing business with the CIS for their own sake, as a result of which they themselves profited well, while the people themselves were increasingly destitute. Of course, the Chancellery worked with the Jedi to stabilize the economy and ease the crisis, but the attempts failed in the long run. As a result of the economic crisis, corruption, and political turmoil, more and more people began to disappoint the leadership of the Republic, especially the Jedi. The Jedi are basically not politicians, but "guardians of the Republic Order" and, if necessary, "mediators" or "diplomats," but they are unable to act appropriately in the event of a major internal political crisis, and because the Chancellery has failed to handle the crisis properly, the trust of many citizens of the Republic in the Jedi has begun to be lost. The process escalated to the point where public opinion began to blame the Jedi specifically for putting the Republic in such a crisis; Higher taxes, worse living conditions, widespread corruption, lack of faith in people's daily security of existence, while the systems unified by the CIS have perfect economic hegemony and seemingly universal welfare. Because of this, many Republican citizens decided to emigrate instead, but many who wanted to stay urged the Senate to try to resolve the crisis in some way. Failing to do so in the long run, rebellions escalated within the republic, foreshadowing political anarchy and a galactic civil war. By then, Anakin and Padmé's children had grown up. Choosing a political career, Leia tried to do everything possible as a diplomat to create an economically stable point, conducting continuous negotiations with the CIS, of course to no avail or with greater or lesser success. Luke, of course, studied at the Jedi Academy and became a talented Jedi, but unfortunately, the crisis of the Republic and the inertia of the Jedi Order increasingly annoyed him, but he was also disappointed to know that the Jedi could not keep the peace in the Galaxy. As a result, Luke increasingly turned away from the Jedi Order and, of course, from his parents. He eventually decided to join the CIS, where he quickly had a successful political career, to the point of becoming the official leader of the CIS (with a pseudonym and identity, of course, because he did not dare to risk revealing his Jedi past to those who already had trouble with "Force users" in the past). Of course, he himself eventually became a "Dark Jedi" - as he lost trust and loyalty to the Jedi Order. Luke eventually planned to organize an army to attack the Republic, eliminate corruption and economic inequality, eliminate the "unviable" Jedi Order, replace it with a new order based on his own philosophies and ideals (i.e., neither Sith nor Jedi), and eventually become the "Leader" or "Emperor" and bring "unity, stability, and peace" to the entire galaxy.
Luke originally studied history and archaeology at the Jedi Academy but wanted to learn more about Sith religion and culture, but for Jedi, learning about this knowledge was strictly taboo and forbidden. Luke was also annoyed that the Jedi were so strict about their refusal to learn this knowledge. He argued that "you can't fight an enemy you don't know, and that's why Palpatine has managed to lead the Jedi Council by the nose in the past." So when Luke broke up with the Jedi, he decided to go his own way and get to know the Sith better. His research eventually came to fruition, as he first conducted research on Korriban and later found the ancient holocron of the Sith Order on Telos IV, which provided the universal repository of Sith cult, along with the wisdom and knowledge of ancient Sith Lords. The most recent Sith to retain his own knowledge and who was also the current gatekeeper of the Sith Holocron was Palpatine. In addition to his immersion in Sith science, Luke also obtained important and valuable information from Palpatine, which included a "blueprint to unify the Galaxy" and a "secret command" that could spell the "end of the Jedi order", paving the way for unlimited absolutist control. Luke, though not a Sith, set out to combine knowledge from the light and dark sides to create a "New Order" that would usher the Galaxy into a new, prosperous era, at least in Luke's mind.
Meanwhile, a serious tragedy struck the Skywalker family. Palpatine's prophecy came true—that Padmé Amidala is died. Although she did not die for the same reasons Anakin initially thought, but her death is closely related to Palpatine's death. Because the Republic had been economically unstable for a long time, despite economic concessions with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which provided the Republic with some capital flow and maintained mutually beneficial and peaceful trade relations, the Republic was on the brink of crisis. Most blamed this on none other than the person who directly took Palpatine's place as chancellor and made peace with the separatists on the basis of an overly hasty decision – thereby digging the grave of the Republic. That person was none other than Padmé Amidala. In addition to rebellions within the Republic, acts of terrorism against the state have also become common. Many of the rebels blamed Amidala and therefore committed an assassination attempt against her, which unfortunately ended in success on the part of the rebel terrorists, i.e. Padmé died as a result of the assassination. In this way, the rebels wanted to convey the message to the leadership of the republic that "they will no longer want for inappropriate leaders and the wrong decisions they make." Of course, Anakin and his daughter Leia Skywalker were also very badly affected by Padmé's tragic death, but the news of Padmé's death and its circumstances reached Luke's ears as well. Luke, although he had long ago turned his back on his parents, still vowed to avenge his mother's death. As the Jedi also reacted with further helplessness to the tragic event, Palpatine's second prediction seemed to come true: "You are doomed to fall on the side of the Jedi."
Civil war was on the verge of breaking out within the Republic.
This also motivated Luke regarding his later goals. While Luke was preparing his war plans, now as the CIS's chief politician, the Galactic Council appointed a talented, thoughtful, but powerful politician to deal with the crisis (at the suggestion of Jedi Master Anakin Skywalker, of course, who had known him from the past and considered him a trusted man), Wilhuff Tarkin. Tarkin, in addition to being a talented politician, worked hard to restore order within the Republic by imposing a military dictatorship (invoked a state of emergency) to prevent civil war and stabilize order within the Republic — something the Jedi reluctantly but "temporarily" approved, since the dictatorship's primary goal was not repression, but a state-centralized and controlled economy. Furthermore, the most important official positions designated by the state were placed under the direction and supervision of military government leaders, i.e. moffs, in specific sectors of the Republic. All this is secured by military force. Tarkin also built up his own network of intelligence services, which immediately notified him of "civil war incitement" or "acts of terrorism against the state." (Due to the state of emergency, the Senate was also forced to accept the coercive measures.) Tarkin, on the other hand, knew how to gain a strong ally to stabilize his political power and restore the Republic to major power in the galaxy, and prepare to wage war with the CIS, which was rumored to have a new and powerful "leader" or "warlord" whose intentions included annexing the Republic, among other things and this warlord using war propaganda to incite the CIS leadership and its citizens against the Republic — which was later confirmed to Tarkin by military intelligence. This future "ally"—whom Tarkin knew—originally lived on a sentient self-conscious planet called Zomana Sekot, which changed its location through hyperspace at will. Tarkin was in contact with the inhabitants of the planet and asked for their help. However, a large number of representatives of this race were already on their way to the Galaxy with the intention of subjugating and conquering the whole Galaxy. Name of species: Yuuzhan Vong. This is the end of my theory of the alternative future of Galaxy, without Palpatine and his Galactic Empire. (I even thought of a scenario where Luke - as the future new Emperor, leader of the CIS - would attack the republic and at some point he himself would face his own father. Of course, Luke would be in typical traditional Sith armor with a mask (e.g. Darth Revan or Kylo Ren in the new canon), because of this, Anakin would not recognize him at the moment, but then in a dramatic moment, right at the climax of the fight between the two, Luke would reveal himself in front of his father, in something similar dramatic scene, as in The Empire Strikes Back; "Anakin, I am your son." In any case, I think it would be an interesting role exchange.) I would be genuinely interested to know how anyone sees things or what their opinion is on this theory?

2024.05.04 03:12 vb2509 Recognising Manipulators

https://youtu.be/KqNyrYNLkY0?si=1VE3PsIYxTwOUivS
Cinematherapy dropped a new video and did one of my favorite villans of all time. I believe that the breakdown of the character Jonathan gives can be helpful to recovering incels here which I will explain below.
Our villain needs no introduction. We know him as Darth Sidious, Sheev Palpatine or just The Emperor. While he was great at frying people with lightning and his skill with a lightsaber, his greatest strength was manipulation.
Jonathan goes in depth about the moments where you can see his tactics in action and also talks about how one can spot such behaviors and how they are able to influence people.
Here are the signs Jonathan mentioned:
Manipulators prey on people who don't feel accepted and use flattery to earn their trust.
What makes them so convincing is the lies they tell are mixed with truth which makes it easy to be influenced by.
They disrespect your judgement, choices and individuality and try to control you in a very subtle way mixed with flattery or warmth (fake/real). They will try to convince you that their way is the only way.
They weaponise all confessions you make to them as you lower your guard.
They will try to come off as the only person who can give you what you want deeply while making you compromise your values and replacing it with theirs.
Jonathan also talks about two cases of manipulation done by the villain on Anakin and Luke.
Palpatine was able to use his skills to manipulate Anakin effectively because he did not have anybody to be able to open up to and struggled to have a sense of self worth.
His son Luke however, has genuine friends due to which flattery does not work on him. Another factor is that Luke is clear in who he is and sticks to his core values.
So where does this get relevant to us? Some of the signs reminds me heavily of grifters that offer "dating advice" and also in many ways how Redpill works. They appear as the only source of getting what you want, mix truth so well with lies that you would start believing the lies eventually, poisoning your thoughts. The victims or the most at risk are often people with depression and self esteem issues with weak social skills.
This information also applies in the workspace. Young/fresh talent is often manipulated in similar ways - mainly via flattery to be tricked into overwork by bosses. I had just quit my first job when I joined this sub since the boss went from treating me like his MVP to a pack mule.
I think this is probably why people on this sub also suggest that one should have a fulfilling social life surrounded by people who make you feel enough the way you are. It would make it difficult for anybody to damage your self esteem since you know your self worth.
I'm sure there are more aspects of life this knowledge applies to but I focused on this aspect due to its relevance.
Edit : Refined the post a bit since it was too long and cluttered.
