2024.05.13 17:47 robthecrate Truck stopped working mid drive

Just wanted to rant for a bit. I have a ‘22 sierra refreshed. It’s an elevation with a little under 13,000 miles.
I was driving and my truck stopped working mid drive. Suddenly I could not accelerate and it actually seemed like my truck slowed down when I pressed on the gas pedal. Luckily I still had steering and brakes so I pulled over to a less busy side road and shut my truck off hoping I could restart it but I could not get it started at all after that. Had to get a tow and the driver was pretty disgruntled when he could not get the truck in neutral lol
Before this there was no indication that there was something wrong with the truck. No dash warning, no weird noises, no performance issues.
I tried to start it again this morning but again no luck. The dash now says service transmission, service trailer break system, and service traction control. I’m getting it towed to the dealership today. The gmc app says I’m under warranty but we will see what the service center says
Update 1: The AAA tow truck that the dealer sent to me could also not get the truck in neutral, and he could not take the truck on his flatbed. He called his dispatch and requested they send a truck with a wheel lift. By the way when I spoke the dealership I specifically said the truck will not shift to neutral several times

2024.05.12 22:53 KlineyKline Chicago Flatbed drivers

Hey Chicago Flatbed drivers. Anyone ever deliver to Wheatland tube? They open at 6am but I'm thinking about getting there by 4am and doing a split sleeper. I've never delivered there or even to that city. Driving through is always painful enough, so I'm trying to beat that morning rush. If you've delivered there, lmk if you think early arrival is g2g.

2024.05.10 23:50 EfficientOccasion502 New job related anxiety

Hey, yall. Looking for advice/thoughts, and will try to keep it as short as possible. So ive got my license when i was in the army (one of european ones) and after driving for them for two years, got a civilian job as a truck driver, first long haul, then local. Was allright, got 7 years of experience in total, and loved it for the most part.
Then moved to another country, and switched industries, and been doing different (non driving) job for about 10 years.
Then stuff happened and i needed to look for another job, and a buddy of mine offered to hook me up with this local driving gig, monday to friday. Ive agreed, and started right away.
Its a small company, owner is super supportive and chill, all the coleuges are nice and helpful, and job it self is nothing crazy. Flatbed, mostly construction sites. Many repeating routes.
And im managing fine. Most tricky back ups i get first try, didnt hit anything, its been alright.
But for some fucking reason i have this sence of dread every minute im there. Just starting to be really anxious before work, even the night before, and just want to quit all the time.. And the thing is i dont know why. Its been 4 months, and still cant get used to it, like sometimes i feel like im gonna puke its so bad. I dont show it, but this constant feeling sure makes me hate all this.
Have some one dealt with smth like this? Or it is time to see the shrink?
Any thoughts appreciated. Be safe out there.

2024.05.09 22:42 J-Kensington O/O

All right, fellow drivers. For this particular post I'm specifically looking for drivers with at least some real world experience in running their own truck.
Some of you might recognize me from around here, most of you probably don't, but I've been a Class A driver (U.S.) for a long time. Always a company driver, always letting someone else handle all the paperwork and taxes. I run hard, usually as hard as the company will provide Freight, and I'm all too happy to max out my 70 even if it means things like several hours of commuting in my personal vehicle to make that happen.
I run lots of reefer, lots of van, a little bit of up trailers, and a little bit of dry bulk. I'm willing to run almost anything except flatbed, but once I've lost more weight I might be willing to run that too. Please don't tell me how wonderful being a flatbed driver is, I've heard you guys talk and I'm sure it's a magnificent job. But that's not what I'm here today to ask about.
Reason for this post is that I'm considering becoming an owner operator. I've got no Illusions about it being easy, I've got no Illusions about it making me rich. I know it'll be difficult.
The question is: if you had all your knowledge of owning a truck but no particular preference of load type or trailer type, what would you do?
Would you buy a truck in the first place? What kind of freight? How would you structure your business?
I live in Indiana, home time is 2nd to income, and will take as much information as you type.

2024.05.09 07:44 kunai1997 The Cabin

(OLDER VERSION)
LOG 319 This may be my last entry so if you are reading this then my attempt has failed The day is July 5, I think... well it's 3 years after the infection. It all started in a small research and development lab down in Texas. The lab was owned by a company known for their biological and chemical agents when they came across a way to weaponized a strain of a virus that was long since dormant but when it got out it quickly mutated and spread like wildfire throughout the country and within weeks the whole world. Those that weren't so lucky turned into the walkers as I call them and then there are those that are strait out of your nightmare those, I call night horrors I have only seen them when the sun has set and by then you need to find shelter. Oh fuck I think I just heard the screamer, well fuck I think I'm going to have to end it here. Sergeant First Class Mac Black Wolf signing off
Chapter -1 72 hours before the outbreak
Mac was out on his ascend kayak a few hundred yards off shore before the storm coming up from the gulf. At that current moment it was Wednesday the 18th day of June 2019 and Cole and mac had planned last winter. In just a few hours Mac would be packing the Ram 3500 his grandfather passed down when he passed away. It was a 1988 Ram 3500 pick-up truck with the manual transmission with an Allison trans parried to a set of dana's and a 5.9 12vavle Cummins. Meanwhile he was out on the kayak his girlfriend Amber who worked at the diner nearby. It’s around 15:00 when he gets a call from an old friend from his Army days.
Mac’s phone: RING RING RING Mac: Hello? Who is this and how did you get this number? PSG McTavish: Hello is this SFC Mac? Mac: Yes, who is this? PSG McTavish: It’s PSG McTavish. I was calling to inform you and let you know SSG John Wolf was killed last week and in his will was your name along with his life insurance policy making you soul beneficiary. Mac: Ok? And what do you want me to do about it I'm in Texas not Tennessee PSG McTavish Well sir when you're ready we would appreciate it if you would come up and collect the stuff, he has in the storage unit up here. Mac: Well I won't be able to get it until I get back from my yearly trip to the cabin so can it wait till later this month the trip is about 2 weeks long PSG McTavish: Alright there's no rush for you to come get it or we can flatbed it to you if you choose. Mac: Actually, could your flatbed it to me ill text you the delivery site I have a bad storm coming in and I’m out on the water so I have to cut it short PSG McTavish PSG McTavish: alright I don’t want to hold you up too much if there's a storm coming so I'll let you go Mac
As Mac Hangs up the phone and begins to paddle to shore as the storm approaches rapidly on him. He sees off in the distance silhouette of a tall un human like creature vanishes into the woods by his truck. As he gets closer, he just ignores the black figure and goes to pack up the gear. A few minutes go by as he the throws the last bit of stuff into the bed of his pickup. Mac starts to walk to the driver's side and notices the shadow yet again and ignores it and hops into the driver seat and begins to put the keys in the ignition. As he goes to crank the engine over. He notices the silhouette walking towards him, so he reaches under the center console for his 45acp and racks the slide back in the prosses. As the silhouette drew near Mac began to have an eerie feel go down this back and he stepped out of the truck with the 45 in hand. As the silhouette drew even closer, a passing truck blew its horn and the silhouette bolted back to the woods on its hind legs. After all that happened Mac just went and sat in his truck and thought “I'm getting too old for this shit” and after a few moments he cranked the engine over and then started to drive to his house to pack. About an hour passes when he pulls into the driveway at that point it was around 17:00 and Amber would be getting off around 17:30. It would take about 30 minutes for her to go to her apartment and an hour to get to Mac’s house. As he was unpacking his truck, he noticed the same feeling from when he went to leave the water so he then went inside and came back out with his M14 that he tricked out for CQB that has a 16-inch barrel and a fiber optic site mounted on top zeroed at 100 yards. As he started walking to where he felt it coming from, he noticed there was no signs of nature present. Which made the woods an eerie kind of quiet, as he was investigating the area with his m14 he looked around and couldn’t find any tracks which was odd as he uses this part of his land for hunting. As he then starts to walk back to the house, he notices something was on the roof and when he went to use the scope on the m14 it vanishes. So, he just brushes it off due to his lack of sleep the night before. As Mac started to walk back to the house after he thought he saw something on the roof. As he started to grab the bags from his room and carried them to the 3500, he saw Cole pull up in his souped up wrx. As Cole stepped out of the wrx, he started walking over to Mac to give him a hug. As Mac set the bag in the bed of the truck and went to hug Cole as the last time, they saw each other was about six months prior. After a little while of Mac and Cole catching up, Mac asks Cole if he’s feeling an eerie feeling like something wasn’t right. Cole reply’s back with a hesitant tone unsure why Mac was asking if he had felt an eerie feeling? As they were carrying bags from the house to the truck and from Coles wrx. Cole began to have the eerie feel that Mac asked him about and asked Mac why. After a bit of hesitation Mac starts to tell Cole feeling like he would think Mac was a deranged from seeing a silhouette of a beast that no one else sees. As Cole knew Mack for over 25 years, he trusted him and knew he wouldn’t pull a stunt like this and not show true emotion of anxiety as this wasn’t anything he’s ever seen before. As they threw the last bag into the bed of the truck, Mac asked Cole if he wanted an Ice-cold homebrewed clone of a really nice beer.
As they headed for the house Cole mentions to Mac “Hey didn’t you buy a new rifle Mac?” Mac looks over to Cole and said “HELL to the fuck yes although ambers going to be pissed about it because of the price tag but fuck it you only live once.” As they laughed Amber pulled up and went up to Mac not seeing Cole and said, “baby can you fuck me good tonight work was exhausting.” After Amber said that Cole busts out laughing. Once Amber realized Cole was right next to her, she blushed a bright shade of red she's never done before. As Amber turned to hide her face, she ran to the house trying to hide her embarrassment she was showing plastered all over her face. After Amber left Mac and Cole, they looked at each other and Mac gave Cole that look like “brah I'm getting laid. “As Cole gave back that the look of “my bros getting some tonight” look back to Mac. Meanwhile the three of them where standing in the group the black silhouetted figure was watching them with its narrow beady eyes off from a distance but Amber was so oblivious to the silhouette and Cole that she didn’t feel the eerie feel that’s been going on around the house. When Mac and Cole started walking to the front door, they both saw the silhouette and Cole looked at Mac asking is that the thing? Mac replied with yes that’s the thing that’s been fallowing me all day. As they open the door Amber was walking from Macs room to the bathroom to take a shower as she had the towel wrapped around her so Mac told Cole to go grab us a beer as he walked to the bathroom to ask Amber something. As Mack was walking up to the door amber calls out for Mac right as Mac was about to knock on the door. When amber asked who it was not knowing Mac was on the other side so Mac replied “it's me babe”. As Amber then told him to enter. As Mac opened the door slowly and walked in Amber was in the shower and said “did you need anything babe?” Amber replied promptly by reaching for Macs arm tugging on it trying to make Mac hop in with her. Mac then told Amber “if you want me to join you, I'll have to go get a towel babe”. Amber says back “so you don’t love me anymore?” As Amber said that all Mac could think was, she was being more needy then normal. As he thought of reasons why Amber was so much more needy then normal. He couldn’t figure out why then it hit him like a freight train, she wanted to have kids together. What Amber didn’t know was in one of those bags was an engagement ring. While Cole was in the front room Mac went and grabbed a towel for himself and went to the shower to join Amber who would soon be his fiancé. As he was walking to the shower, he noticed something in the corner of his eye, then realized the box to the ring was not hidden so he slipped it into the drawer that had his shirts and closed it so Amber hopefully would not find it. So, he then closed the door and started walking to the bathroom and texted Cole asking him if he was coming by himself or is his girl April coming. As Mack was walking to the shower with his phone in one hand and towel in the other hand. As Mack went to reach for the door knob to open it he could hear Amber singing a song that was special to them as it was the first song that they danced to as he walked into the bathroom to join her in the shower Mack started to sing along and stripped in the proses starting with his boots then to the belt then the button and zipper of his pants ending at the shirt and then hop in with Amber as they spend the next half hour or so in the shower. Meanwhile Cole was texting April finding out of she was going to go to the cabin this week end or was she going to skip as he waited for the reply she started to doze off but right as he as a bout to pass out April replied that she was going to be going so she would be meeting then on the road in the morning so as he was reading it he slowly dozed off and fell asleep. Mack and Amber were in the shower Cole was dosing off as they went to step out and head to the bedroom to get dressed as all they had on was a towel and as they walked to the bedroom Mack slaps Amber’s ass in a playful manner like he does from time to time as they walk to the bed room and he smacks her ass Amber let’s out a little moan of pleasure and Cole gets startled from the moan and pulls his nine out of the jacket he had on and realized it was just Mac smacking Amber’s ass and goes back to sleep. As Mack slapped Ambers ass and moaned, she looked back at Mack as she moaned a little and as she saw half way in to the moan Mack kissed Amber and picked her up and carried her to bed. As the two love birds went to the bed room Cole got up and walked to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and noticed the feeling again and went to the living room and grabbed Macks saiga 12 and two 12rd mags as he stepped outside to see what was going on and all he was able to see was a pack of coyotes yipping outside and went back inside the place and set the gun down and laid down on the futon and scrolled Facebook until he falls asleep.
As dawn was approaching mack was already up and walking to the barn to see how atvs and utvs faired sence the last time he was at the cabin, a short while later Cole finally awoke and started to look around for mack. Meanwhile Mack was working on the atvs and utv so he could take them out later to go to the lake

2024.05.09 01:51 Troodos01 small rant about one of my favourite noise cancelling headphones (Momentum 4)

for everyone who doesn't want to read everything: try wearing them with your ears jammed to the bottom and slightly to the front of the ear cup for better sound in the mids (1-2 khz region gets boosted)
I got the Sennheiser Momentum 4 about 8 months ago as a replacement for the Qc45. Both are pretty basic headphones for my day-to-day use for mainly music listening and some calls at work, at home and on the go. As you might guess, I use them pretty much throughout my whole day. Since I like got sound and some tinkering with my equipment, these were the perfect match for me. I have just one issue with them, which isn't that big but due to the lack of other issues it kind of bothers me.
To describe the problem, I have to explain some other reviews and known problems that correlate to my (probably) personal problem. these headphones show a lack of the frequencies between 1 and 2 khz in the soundguys and the Oratory1990 measurement. both of them use (in my opinion) some of the best measurement rigs for headphones. on rtings there is a major lack in similar frequencies on the left channel while the right one seems pretty accurate. these deviations got me kind of curios because I thought if it isn't a driver issue it might be fixable. after some more research I stumbled upon more reviews and measurements with different results in this region. overall, we are talking about at least 8db variation (sometimes the dip also gets shifted up or down). I thought that if this is a driver issue, I'm going to give these headphones back and if not, I want to fix it and get my personal perfect pair of headphones.
in my own tests I started with a small measurement microphone in a DIY flatbed measurement rig. since you obviously need a different compensation than on an artificial head, I started to test different methods (some of them worked well on my open back headphones) but I never got coherent results. technically I got the dip but there where way too many tolerances in the results above 2 khz to be sure the problematic region wasn't affected. so, I started measuring "free air" with and without earpads (had a suspicion that they are the problem) but again no result. my last option was to measure them on my head, which for sure isn't unproblematic but worked best. I realized after multiple measurements that these deviations are some resonances inside the earpads or between the ear and the head (still suspecting the earpads). after some testing I realized the dip is nearly eliminated if I push my ear to the bottom and slightly to the front of the headphone and use them in an uncomfortably small setting. this was an audible and measurable difference in the sound.
After I realized this, I thought about buying different earpads like brainwavz or off brand amazon stuff to test if it gets better. But I don't think this would make a big difference since materials and size are always very comparable.
so, my conclusion was to create a post about my findings and ask if some people encounter the same problem or if anyone has an idea for a different solution. My interest in some experience with different earpads is also huge since I haven't found much about these. but for me these are still one of the best headphones even if they went form kind of comfortable to kind of uncomfortable. (equalizer with third party apps isn't an option since i use multiple devices)
also, this might be a good example for measurement accuracy and human error as a problem especially with closed back headphones and angled drivers.
Edit: I just thought that it might also be possible that there is a leak/ problem with the mic (inside the earcup) with this style of wearing the headphone.

2024.05.08 08:32 Mayor_Missin_Bissen DLNR Harbor displacement and cleanup

Can we talk about how much of a fail the harbor cleanup was by the DLNR? Great they moved cars but really in their press release they literally highlighted many just moved to a nearby private property and that’s their problem. Now homeless are running around cross the road and starting fires?! Such BS when they’ll just move back to create another camp.
https://mauinow.com/2024/05/07/dlnr-dozens-of-vehicles-towed-at-kahului-harbor-during-cleanup/
“DOZENS OF VEHICLES TOWED FROM KAHULUI BOAT HARBOR Second Phase of Clean-up
With a large presence of workers from the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR), and under the watchful eye of officers with the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE), today the public parking areas at the state’s Kahului Boat Harbor are relatively clean of camps, and more than five dozen vehicles, many of them abandoned.
Local towing operators, under contract to Maui County, put cars and trucks, some without tires or in various states of repair, onto flatbed trucks. Behind them, DOBOR staff and workers from a private contractor finished the work they started a week ago cleaning up encampments.
For months, DOBOR Maui District Manager Paul Sensano received complaints about the conditions of harbor facilities. An initial clean-up in January was followed by last week’s and today’s. “It was quite an effort and as we’re winding down certain tasks did not get accomplished,” Sensano said.
More than a dozen vehicles were moved, by their owners, to a private strip of land next to the harbor, but the responsibility for what happens there is the landowner’s.
Some of the complaints involved illegal activities. Last week one person was stabbed and one man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and two other criminal charges. Today, that man appeared to be preparing at least three of his cars for towing.
Several other vehicles, lacking wheels and tires, were dragged by their drivers across the dirt lot and onto the paved harbor entrance road.
DOBOR will be posting signs around the harbor, notifying people that only boat trailers with state permits and the trucks pulling them are allowed in the harbor between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. All others are subject to ticketing or towing.
Sensano noted that the issue of houseless camps in small boat harbors has changed over the years. “At Haleʻiwa Small Boat Harbor on O‘ahu, ten or fifteen years ago, many of the people camping long-term were older anglers, who just wanted to fish. Now some of the people in these encampments have severe substance abuse and mental health issues,” he said.
Social service providers have made numerous visits to the camps at Kahului, attempting to place people into transitionary or permanent housing. However, most decline.”

2024.05.08 01:04 Thin-Big-2925 Rookie driver, Need genuine advice

Alright so I’m not trying to waste any time and write a bunch of nonsense bc I need genuine advice from experienced drivers who have been through the struggles of a rookie or just people with common sense to help.
CONTEXT:
I am a rookie truck driver, got my class A March 18th 2024, I’m 21 years old. I work for Schneider, I am on the tank division (Bulk), I’m regional. I just finished up all my training with them they dragged it to basically two months. I was CAT so they paid for my Cdl that’s the major reason it took an extra month. Anyways They sent me on my own with my tractor on April 29 and became eligible to receive loads that Monday at noon. Since then i have received one load and that was Friday evening, basically spend a whole week alone in tractor (which I’m fine with) at the OC. What I’m really pissed and confused about is why did It take so long for my first load. The whole week before that they sent me home and I was obviously receiving no money and then finally I’m eligible to make actually money they drag and leave me without pay an extra 5 days. Then I complete the load it was basically 300 miles total, and I’m sitting again for almost two days, No load, no work, no pay. Not even layover man. Like what was the point of dragging my training to two months to just have me sit for the majority? Im on pace to take about 2 34s in the span of a week man. This is crazy man. The pay isn’t even bad it’s .48 cpm. I thought it’ll be way lower but tbh I told myself anything above .39 is acceptable to me as a rook.
Like I genuinely want to work for Schneider, I’ve heard the horror stories about the MEGAs and everything idc how I get treated by dispatch or my team lead or w.e, I just want the miles they told me I was going to get, they don’t even need to be favorable routes just do what you said on the job summary 3-5 loads a week 900 guaranteed first 3 months 1500 to 3000 miles a week.
Simple man. Like why lie on there??
~~~~~~~~~~~ So now here’s the part where I just need advice,
should I thug out the 9 months ?(only need 7 months now) or look for beverage delivery (I know it’s physical labor I worked 2 jobs as a warehouse Unloader and stocker at the same time before and I’m young and fit) or find another company that takes no experience guys, was looking at gypsum express and Melton they’re flatbed too I don’t mind.
My main goal in trucking is to do it for the rest of my life. I’m introvert, I like working by myself at my own pace. I eventually want to haul fuel or do car hauling and learn enough in one of those industry and be a owner op but that’s way in the future it’s never certain.
I just want to work man. I love driving, I love working and being active not sitting in a truck rotting away. I got my mom to support too, the Schneider training pay has been shit, I don’t even care about making a lot in my 1st year too. I just simply want to work and drive man
Like I understand I’m a rook so loads I get will be restricted but at least a heads up would be nice? And I know the job well they taught me everything about the job so I don’t get it man.
I’m optimistic and hoping this doesn’t last a more than a month or 2.
2024.05.07 05:02 IndexFingerTypist Prime company driver bonuses?
I'm in flatbed as a company driver. I was shocked to be told even company drivers must pay for their own gear. Anywho!
I'm curious if anyone knows what the bonuses for safety or fuel savings are? They really didn't talk about that at all with us. Only about how lease is better and stuff. Thanks.
2024.05.07 03:40 FunnyConfirmer Hopping into a vehicle actively being towed?
Assuming it's safe, is climbing into your car while on a flatbed an advisable method to have it not be towed away?
For context, I walked by a stranger getting towed today. He was going toe-to-toe w the towing guy with good points and everything seemed legal. Obviously the tow truck driver wasn't having it. I looked right at the guy getting towed and said "these guys are crooks, once your car is gone, you're not going to win this, I would hop in it now...he can't drive away".
Homeboy scaled right up and into his car like a champ. I couldn't stick around but need to know the ending!
2024.05.06 01:03 tanukihimself13 2005 CRV SE. How to tow?
I have a 2005 CRV SE with a very flat front driver side tire, I mean, it's completely buggered. I can't get my spare tire off because it's locked on there with some kind of special star looking bolt that the previous owner took or lost the key to. They also took/lost the tire tool. Anyway, I have to get AAA to tow me to Costco tomorrow where I'll get a new set of tires, and I don't know how to go about getting it towed.
Should I request a flatbed truck and tow it that way? Seems like it's not good to tow it with the front off the ground, and flat towing it isn't an option due to the dead tire.
Flatbed?
2024.05.05 04:35 Buggaboo2018 Price Check?
Price Check?
Picked up a pretty nice 2002 Supercab F350, with 4x4, a 6-speed (Zf6), manual transfer case, manual hubs, and an aluminum flatbed.
Oh, 7.3 Powerstroke with 170,000 miles.
But wait, there’s more!
It’s a cab and chassis model with the flat, narrow rear frame with the 40 gallon fuel tank. Special ordered from ford as a single rear wheel truck. I have a marti report.
I like the truck but it is a lot more than I need. Located in Montana. Zero body rust but some surface rust on frame.
Just put new pads in all the way around and had the pedestal o-rings replaced with the hot air flapper thingie rebuilt.
Interior is pretty good. Installed a new Ford multifunction switch and I have a new gauge cluster Cover since the existing one is cloudy. Just put in new headlights and new clearance light lenses as well. A few cog burns in the drivers seat from the previous owner.
Any thoughts about price?
2024.05.04 18:55 TaoTeChing81 Insurance Advice - Best Insurance for a Vette that's Not a Daily Driver / Not Garage Kept ?
Picking up the 2001 C5 Sliver Coupe / 6-Manual on Tuesday. I currently use Nationwide for our other, regular cars & truck.
The C5 would be a weekend / good weather, fun drive car, not a daily driver, under 2500 mile a year for 100% sure. I don't have a garage that would hold it, so it will be in the driveway and when not in use under a car cover (Looking at Seal Skin Supreme Car Cover)
Checking online: Hagerty & American Collectors with Flatbed Roadside is about $640 a year. I was checking on other insurances and many require it to be garage kept, 100% and no errands (can't go grocery shopping).
$650 sounds very reasonable.... anyone like any other company, better prices or services? Hagerty vs. American Collectors, one vs. the other? Is there something else I should consider or add to the policy I may not be thinking of? I have not owned a Corvette for many years, the last time was 1986-1988.
Thanks!
Vehicle Husks and Recovery systems: My view on how to implement it
As the Title says, this is a suggestion post on how Vehicle Recovery could be implemented as the game is, with systems already in place.
  • Point One: Vehicle Husks
-Similar to the old Heavy infantary carrier, now every vehicle would leave behind a husk containing whatever the vehicle had in its inventory before being destroyed, items in the husk inventory will disapear when the husk finaly decays or get destroyed,
-Husks decay after a short period of time if left unattended, a couple of hours at most and 40 minutes at minimum, husks will not be affected by AI or maintnance tunnels, however, Husks will not decay faster in the RDZ.
-Husks can also be completely destroyed if wished, with a couple of tank shells, Mammons, Styckies or explosives. Artilhery fire will NOT cause significant damage to husks, however.
-All husks would cost cmats to recover, with difering ammounts depending on how 'Valuable'' the vehicle is (Standard tanks cost less than BTs for eample).
-Vehicle husks can be repaired to a Towable and Cranable state, but the vehicle cannot move under its onw power and cannot fire its weapons while in this state, in this state is also vulnerable to being completely destroyed, not leaving a husk behind.
-Vehicle husks can be used as a Cover for infantry and other vehicles
-To Repair a vehicle husk back to minimal fighting conditions (vehicles will be fully operatonal but with minimal armour health) the Husk must be placed in a Small assembly station with a specialized upgrade, the Repair shop, (Vehicles can have thier armour separately repaired in the repair shop as well, but it will cost more and take some time unlike in garages)
-Vehicle repair cost will vary according to vehicle to vehicle and also how "valuable" the vehicle is.
-Under this system, Vehicle models belonging to the enemy faction can also be recovered, repairded and rearmoured, but at a significantly increased cost.
  • Point Two: Field Recovery
-For the proper field recovery things can stay as they are in the game if the husk system is added, but i think to compliment that a coulple of logistics vehicles could be added to help with the logistics parts and getting the husks to be repaired. For that, i came up with four vehicle concepts, Two vehicles available for both factions and one available to each faction.
Available for Both Factions:
BMS Mammoth Hauler: Its an upgraded version of the BMS Packmule flatbed truck that can carry hevier and larger packaged vehicles than the standard Flatbed can, for that, it swaps the flatbed back for a larger towed flatbed semi trailer, This new version of the Packmule is upgraded in a field station, but the trailer needs to be built separately also in the field station. (Historical refences: Scammel Pioneer with Tank recovery trailer or M25 "Dragon Wagon")
Scammel Pioneer with Tank recovery trailer
BMS Scarab: Not an upgrade for the Packmule but an variant of it that is also be built in the field station. The Scarab swaps the rear tracks and flatbed for porper wheels and a towing hook assembly, It is a generalist tow truck capable of towing most light vehicles up and including light tanks and vehicles of the same general size (Historical reference: Scammel Pioneer SV/2S).
Scammel Pioneer SV/2S tow truck
Faction Specific:
Wardens: Niska MK. IV Rescuer: A heavy duty halftrack capable of towing the heaviest of vehicles, its purely a logistics/recovery vehicle, it posseses a large inventory (arround 10 to 15 slots) and its capable of carrying 8 to 10 personel (including driver). it does not posesses any means of offensive or defensive armament, (Historical references: Sd.Kfz. 8 and Sd.Kfz. 9).
Sd.Kfz. 8 Halftrack
Colonials: 85k-R Ankístri: A variant of the Falchion specifically modified for field recovery, it posesses a single pintle mounted 7,92 machine gun on the roof, it swaps the turret for a heavy duty towing assembly, it possesses a inventory of 8 slots, It can carry 7 passangers with 3 being Crewman (commandemg operator, Driver and hook operator) and the other four can be seated on the outside of the vehicle, similar to the IST or the Colonial SPG (Historical Reference: Bergepanzer Tiger [Porsche])
Bergepanzer Tiger (Porsche)
▪︎Conclusion
These changes and additions aim to add a new faced of tank combat and field logistics using systems that already in plane on the game and to solve issues of tank spams, everything i mentioned in my vison can be implemented without balance changes but a rebalance of vehicle costs could also be considered since now vehicles are recoverable, and thus singular tanks are more valuable.
*Edit: I made a similar post on FOD with the same ideas if you want to check it out
2024.05.03 08:42 calgrizz52 Flatbed tow truck comes around at night...
Repos or stealing cars?
Literally just one apartment down, I heard a diesel truck reverse into a complex with it's backup sound... I take a walk and look at the truck and the driver. The truck goes ahead and starts driving away like he wasn't even doing a job or anything.... Suss.
Saw a tow truck company on it, but I know some ppl use thei company truck to pull cars...
I mean if I was stealing cars with my company flatbed, I'd disable the reverse noise but...
2024.05.03 02:01 Rockets93717 Will filing a complaint against a CHP officer do anything? Sacramento
Couple days ago my windshield was hit by a rock flew out of truck in front of me carrying construction products. I called the phone number listed on the rear of the truck. The company admin told her driver and I to pull over and exchange insurance information. After we pulled over, the driver refused to give me his company's insurance information and accused me of lying. He said he won't share his insurance information with me unless I call the cop. So I did. When the CHP officer arrived, I explained to him what happened. He acted very lackadaisical and biased, told me "it's hard for you to prove if you don't have a video." I said I was driving behind him and I took photo of the bed of his truck (with debris not cleaned), it was the debris that flew to my windshield. He said "why don't you just use your own insurance, it will only take you 40 or 50 bucks to fix." I said, no, I am not going to use my own insurance for a damaged caused by unsecured material. Especially that the crack was so big that I will need a new windshield. I made it clear to the police officer, I called him because we are disputing over getting insurance information, I didn't ask him to come here to determine fault (I know it's not his responsibility). He finally said "go ahead and exchange insurance." The truck driver complied. When I reviewed the insurance paper that the truck driver handed to me, the expiration date says December of 2020 (and we are in 2024). I didn't want to just take it for what it is, so I went to the police officer and asked him "his insurance paper is expired, is that okay?" Without even checking the insurance paper, the police officer responded to me "yes it's okay, he works for a company, they have commercial liability insurance up to millions of dollars, what do you expect?" I said, I just want to check so I get a valid insurance info. He sarcastically said "I bet your insurance paper isn't even current, it's just insurance paper." I almost snapped at that moment, I took out my insurance card and showed him "it expires in August of 2024" Then he said "why are you trying to be so difficult?" That's pretty much how the interaction ended with this CHP officer. This officer acted lackadaisical and didn't even bother to check whether the flatbed truck had debris on the bed while stopped. Although the reason I called them is because the driver refuses to give me insurance so I wanted to peacefully resolve this issue, but he arrived and tried to persuade me to use my own insurance (regardless of who caused the damage just because it's hard to prove). He didn't care about expired insurance paper and acted annoyed that "I'm being difficult" when I was not sure if expired insurance is safe to accept or not. I honestly don't think he's doing his job. This is very disappointing and sad because I'm starting to see that in California, law enforcement begin to pick and choose which law to enforce, their lack of enforcement and ethic had slowly normalized crime and violations. At the end of the day, it's all about "use your own insurance if your window got smashed, use your own insurance if your property is damaged, use your own insurance if your car is stolen" Yes, I can use my insurance but I will have to pay a deductible out of my own pocket, and my insurance premium will increase. I did submit an online complaint about this police officer, my question is, will the police department do anything? Will I hear back? What else should I do? I know this is a uphill battle, but I'm so tired of police and public servant behaving like this. I really want to do what I can to even make a small difference. Interestingly I looked up his name on transparent california, a website that posts the wage/salary made by all public servant in the state of California. This specific officer had made over 100k dollars alone in overtime in the previous 3 consecutive years, with a total compensation (without benefits) of over 240k a year, This is where our hard earned tax money went, ridiculous
