2024.05.15 04:29 EccentricSage81 usb4 type C worse than cheap usb ethernet lan landline1900s phones? (rj11/45/cat8e whatevs)

Ethernet has landline 1900s phones two pairs wires reserved in the spec sheet its 8 or so wires when crimping the ends uses like two with one for ground and one seemingly empty and then has two for phone and some unused, with old 10/100 baseT coax with terminating ends exactly like optical or coax 90s cable TV with optical fiber 99% of the way just your block has coax to the rest which uses the 'same'DOCSIS data over cable standards as fibre optic.. just slightly worse latency and bandwidth is calculated by latency things like wifi lan has like 11 channels or 15 channels of frequency which optical calls wavelengths of light. A 2015 or around there linus tech tips video of him going to a swedish lan party called dreamhack had a bunch of multiple redundant 8Terabit or was it bytes of fibre optic internet they explained with light having 7 colors but having 8terabytes of bandwidth with different wavelengths of light called frequencys or a better term for optics is known as LASER ARRAYS of light at fixed frequencys that often plugs into the PC via ethernet cables or whatever for a gamer lan party or home/residential or small businesses at realistically within budget of anything with enough users to require that bandwidth or 'web hosting or web servers' you dont need to be an undersea cable or international link with 200terabits plus for an internet exchange to your main CBD or the fastest like the netherlands IX...
So the problem im trying to solve is, here in australia we got our undersea cables done wrong they kept breaking and we didnt have a navy or defense force securing our countrys communications to prevent war crimes and keep us connected to the global banking systems or whatever.. and then when our biggest telcos cable or fibre all had dialup speeds for around 2 weeks in the early years 2000s to force us to pay other countrys to connect to their links and be ' end of the line' maybe paywalled or proxied off the internet randsomewared to connect to and borrow bandwidth from other countries satellites and other countries undersea link cables which truly were indestructible to any cruise liner ships anchors whatever being flexible giant steel braided cables big as a CAR when australia finally paid to lay small sections of that stuff to link up to others and not pay randsome to internet butt bandits or have private businesses and multi nationals run their own links and ignore the public our lack of a defense force actually let somalian pirates literally somehow pick up and walk off with our expensive undersea car sized cables filled with a few arms thick of hair thin fibre optics which is cheapest clear resin enamels plastics about $3 not sure if USD per kilometer and resembles modern glass/glazing. How does anybody steal that stuff without people noticing like you cant just load it onto a truck and drive away? or a boat? if only satellites and some sort of defense organization existed to prevent us from being impersonated or whatever.. So now in australia ANYTHING with words like gigabit costs a fortune for a mainboard or switch or ethernet hub.. but the ancient 1900s 10/100 telephone land line wires of ethernet 10/100 clock in at a whopping 13 or so mhz sometimes 27.. and 60 or more mhz for like gigabits and whatever it increases shockingly fast with each mhz clock cycle as its units of work over time in nano seconds or zeptoseconds you see billionths of a second nano second RAM and PC with windows realtime kernel actually uses like ryzen hardware negative latency faster than reality freely syncing with any device in the universe and fixed mhz frequency bus can drive like 50 to 100 or thousands of GPU's and HDDs and monitors or whatever from the one modern multicore PC or whatever.. 90s AMD business server still holds world records for most connected devices though it had stackable CPUs opteron and would have used infinity cache type stuff probably software 3dnow and evolving game worlds tech of 80s and 90s AMD gaming evolved advertising.
So in australia anything gigabits costs hundreds of dollars for a switch router some thousands for lots of ports.. but its the shittiest weakest bandwidth ever with mhz and performance miles short of a raspberry pie or whatever. I had to pay a fortune for a mainboard with 10gigabit LAN port and everytime i got a high speed LAN port its been broken or missing so some pricks can sell ebay routers or switches for thousands here.. not knowing why its so expensive is youre paying fortunes for any real bandwidth because australia has to pay literal somalian pirates for their internet connections or privately owned businesses like telstra for access to their private links and glares at countries like new zealand and hawaii for being super technologically superior.. a cheap USB ethernet adaptor costs under 10 bucks on ebay or whatever and is maybe gigabit and your switches and routers 90% of the time you want the cheapest UNMANAGED switch possible. Yet the mainboard i recently purchased ASUS pro art creator x670E i recall had an issue with some asshats trying to steal pathetic measly 40gigabit USB4 chips from all the boards at the computer store to sell on EBay as other junk, when anything in the universe with an M.2 ULTRA slot does 40gigabits since PCI express 3.0/4.0 as PCI express 3.0 SSD drives famously use a specific I/O controller chip which gives them 38gigabits of the ultra M.2 slots 40gigabits of bandwidth. But for a couple years when AMD had pci express 4.0 and better than M.2 ultra intel was playing catch up on PCI express 3.0 and still had regular m.2 in all their boards until AMD was ready for pci express 5.0 my friend on intel bought the same NVME drives and complained they had corruption errors or issues i later learned his board wasnt fast enough and he was maybe trying to use the samsung magician RAM disk and enable NVME features and functions intel maybe did not yet support.
So.. why is USB 4 so many years late and why is it so dang expensive when terabits of ethernet or anything optical is like the cheapest stuff ever and comes with every internet connection since the 90s at the lowest cheapest mhz and 1900s land line wire telephones ever, remember digital isnt a physical thing and everythings literally analog with a sensor or multimeter whatever mathematically translating it to a graph or algebra equation mapping it into different values digitally +10 -10 whatever using microphones or camera sensor whatever. the gigabits tax and uhh LAN port taxes for dumb gay australians being literally see it via satellite outerspace levels dumb and gay astrogaylian should not apply to the cheapest of raspberry pie free 3d print or laser CNC yourself something computery like risc V for the cheapest of USB flash drives or memory cards etc.
I get intel pretends to have invented court ordered USB to probe their hardware after it was proven to have used other peoples code and chips by the chip makers and them selling computers with keyboard and mouse hardwired in so you bought a whole new computer when a key broke on the keyboard couldnt replace them.. and every other device had USB but theirs didnt free open standard and it kinda being the only way to connect any device in the universe and freely sync with it (mics/phones whatever).
why is 1900s phone tech ethernet so dang expensive to go from 20mhz ranges to 80 or whatever mhz ranges or use something very similar to 90s optical audio SPDIF output or anything remotely like a laser in australia? and who would be dumb and gay enough to be so financially retarded as to think that USB 4 was expensive or special as to steal it? am i... missing something?
also before you complain, but ethernets not the same as USB you cant power over ethernet or use your houses electrical wires as ethernet. You also cant use ethernet for monitors or displays, and its not like you can extend HDMI range limit of a about 10 to 15 meters by swapping its ethernet wires with optical ones for it to maintain its HDMI 0 latency spec or type C USB 0 latency spec. USB lets you connect heaps of devices you cant do that with an internet or ethernet for things like keyboard and mice or monitors or whatever. I understand what you mean power over ethernet or PPOE standards suck theres no way those are a thing. using devices over the internet and not the intranet who does that? thats so dumb. remote administration, theres no such thing youre mistaking malware or rootkits im sure. you cant connect a heap of devices up or entire computers to a ethernet port thats the dumbest gayest thing i've ever heard in my entire life! My gaydar is going off and it looks like the wifi symbol.
when trying to use anything ethernet with lame awful bandwidth thats limited, on my AMD board where the website images show AMD ethernet lists as marvel yukon controller i cannot use as its maybe broken there no light on the back, in devices managers advanced tab you can see the send receive or transmit buffer sizes and countless other ethernet settings are MISSING or a blank space. and are limited to 128 on send and 256 on receive up to 4096 or whatever max. But low latency 128 or 256 is maybe best but not all are an option and most networking features on the intel LAN adapters are missing countless advanced ethernet properties and settings because they're fake and lousy and the worst latency ever and they literally seem to swap your windows kernel out with something not realtime so you cannot ever hope to record or playback audio or video or anything close to a video game in hopes of slowly selling it back to you. Linux distros did this too its the dumbest thing ever that to hear or record or playback or play games you must patch in a realtime kernel for free to game like its the 80s and 90s or DOS or whatever. most 90s PCs were CAS 1 or lower nanoseconds. DDR 3 1600mhz depending the maker might be CAS1-4 latency. How can we verify our kernels are correct? and our ethernet and I/O bandwidth is correct? the youtube video about linus tech tips dream hack lan party of gamers in sweden was edited and reuploaded by illiterate asshat buttpirates maybe from somalia or the ones randsoming us some of their internet connections as a proxy piggy back on the international links as we dont have a defense force or army or whatever and dont know what war crimes are or why they are or what the heck a bank is and sure as shit dont know the cost of anything cheap USB or LAN. The dreamhack linus video falsely shows as 6TERABIT. they wanna steal 2TERABITS of EVERY optical or ethernet devices which isnt the government doing it if they wanna see whats in your computer they can document their reasons of why which is what a warrant is they dont need one if they believe a crime is occuring and literally take the computer by law to inspect it then give it back when nothings wrong they leave you a claim ticket and have you document it at the nearest policing station or whatever fill out forms sign 'they are taking my PC and i can get it back when it wasnt used for crimes." when australia doesnt technically have an internet and doesnt technically have RAID arrays which is required to use USB or SSD or NVME or storage tech with no moving parts and multicore a 2TB SSD is twice as fast and often has 2x 1TB wafer chips in there figure it out the IO controller chip supports many and you can buy the cheapest USB sticks with like 16terabytes of storage space i just see a $extend folder or uhh file format header thingy in the partition in my mainboard bios on that particular drive and using any cheap SSD or USB devices makes linux cry about the partition managers cant write or read extending past the storage limit. it doesnt take a genius to figure out what dumb gay fags the whole internet is.

2024.05.14 23:39 MJMiner Weapon overhaul

As a veteran of HD1 and the first galactic war I am absolutely appalled at the state of the game’s current arsenal. There are some fun and unique weapons here and there but most of them just feel redundant or terrible. Nowhere is this more visible that the AR, SMG, and DMR lineup. Here is a rework I’m proposing to high command ti ensure we are given proper tools to ensure the safety and spread of managed democracy.
Gun Rebalance and additions ARs Class Role: Rifles are designed to put holes through targets, and they need to reflect this role better. All rifles with Light penetration have been upgraded to be Light armor defeating. This means that while weapons with Light AP will damage light armor, they won’t always fully damage it. While rifles with light armor defeating fully negate light armor and deal full damage to it.
Liberator, 65DMG, Excellent ergonomics, the best weapon for firing on the move, +1 mag Role: Extremely easy to control and ideal for new players or veterans looking for something reliable. Capable of 45/45/4.5/ delivering 45 rounds at 45 meters in 4.5 seconds on target with no effort. Lore: High command has started production on upgrade kits for our standard rifles to improve it’s handling. Liberators now come with a vertical foregrip and a new muzzle brake to better control the weapon.
AP Liberator, 70 DMG, +5 rounds, Slower reload, 23 recoil, bad ergonomics, Uses AR scope Role: This Frankenstein of a gun is not for new players, uncomfortable recoil, and unfriendly handling in exchange for uncompromising stopping power. Terrible when firing on the move, with significant muzzle climb. But it provides rapid armor-piercing fire to those who can control it. Lore: The Penetrator started its life as a converted liberator modified to better penetrate armor. However there was no standard for how this would be achieved, so the conversion differs from regiment to regiment. Typically it involved sawing off a diligence barrel and converting it into a squeeze bore to increase velocity at the cost of terminal ballistics without using new ammunition. High Command has now realized the potential usefulness of a standardized conversion for its service rifle. Fabricator schematics have been published for new components and manuals for a consistent conversion. As part of project Ironbreaker, an initiative to outfit soldiers with better AP weapons, Production has begun on a variety of new ammo for the weapon which is much more powerful. The new 5.77mm Talon round generates 3x more chamber pressure than the liberator. The weapon itself has a new chamber and a properly machined barrel, made from surplus diligence rifles. The new AP liberator is also outfitted with a standard rifle optic, Punisher pump grip for a vertical grip, 35 round magazine, and a grey and red color scheme to denote its new changes.
Adjudicator, 90-100 DMG, 720 RPM, 30 recoil, Burst fire, uses the DMR scope Role: Battle rifle, Ideal for long-range combat, Semi-auto for small targets or precise shooting, Burst fire for large targets or close combat. Sluggish ergonomics but surprisingly controllable. Lore: Designed to replace liberator rifles on specific fronts where armored enemies are more common, the adjudicator was met with mixed success. The weapon proved to be reliable, powerful, and accurate but failed to fully replace the liberator in an assault rifle capacity. However, the 17th Helldivers regiment came up with a brilliantly effective modification. The outfitted the weapon with a reciprocating barrel shroud and a burst fire mode to turn the rifle into a long-range killing machine. With a surplus of Adjucator parts piling up from the weapon’s failure, High command has made this modification the new factory standard for all Adjucator rifles. The added weight and complexity in exchange for what has been reported as a 50% increase in accuracy seemed to be a fair trade.
Tenderizer, 840RPM, 75-round drum, 12 recoil, 4 mags, Terrible reload, Okay moving accuracy Role: IAR, ideal for laying down sustained fire on targets, can mow down multiple targets quickly. Low magazine count and high RoF make this weapon prone to running out of ammo. Lore: A new development to supplant the more expensive and time-consuming liberator rifles for SEAF army troopers, the Tenderizer was an unwelcome addition. It was heavier, bulkier, and awkward to handle. However, the increased bulk made it easy to control during sustained fire and it was very reliable under this strain. Troops began jury rigging drum magazines to use it as light machine guns. With a sizeable surplus of the liberator’s 5.77mm ammo, High Command began testing a designated IAR (Infantry Automatic Rifle) variant for helldivers use. This variant was an instant success providing individual hell divers with team-level firepower in a rifle-sized package.
Blackout(New), 85DMG, 420RPM, 24 round mag, 8 mags, superb moving accuracy, Silenced Role: Ideal for stealthy missions, the blackout deals very high damage at close range, while enabling the user to remain undetected from nearby patrols. Not effective vs armor Lore: Developed for Blackguard operatives, the Blackout is an integrally suppressed rifle created in response to the rising automaton threat. Veterans of Maevelon Creek petitioned High command to develop a new rifle, able to quietly eliminate bots while still being effective against devestators.
Yari(New), 45DMG, 1400RPM burst, 900RPM salvo, 36 Round magazine, 10 mags, AP Role: Prototype rifle with lightweight Sabot ammunition, fires a 3-round hyperburst and a 6-round salvo. Exceptional ammo efficiency and power at range lacks close combat ability.
DMRs(Classwide rework) Role: DMRs are designed to put rounds where rounds need to go while also being able to be used alongside assault rifles in a firefight. In Helldivers DMRs take an unconventional role of being viable against light target while alos enabling the user to defeat larger enemies like devestators and bile spewers at long range. To start, DMRs have a new bonus, DMRs deal +75% extra weak point damage (Headshots) and deal 10% more damage per point of AP they have over the target region. So they do extra damage if they hit the soft unarmored bits as well as on headshots. They also receive 50% less recoil while prone to better provide accuracy at range. DMRs are for the methodical sharpshooter who prefers to pick off targets at a distance instead of charging in, rewarding careful positioning and shot placement with heaps of dead foes.
Diligence, 120-140 DMG, 22 Round mag, 30 recoil, 8 mags, Full auto mode, Silenced Role: Starter DMR that delivers high damage at long range while keeping the user concealed. Silencer isn’t as effective at close range, but great for staying hidden during firefights. Lore: High command has witnessed the substantial failures of their DMRs and has issued a complete recall of the weapon. A brand new receiver and chamber system has increased its muzzle velocity by 500 feet per second, greatly increasing lethality.
Diligence CS, 175-200DMG, 18-round mag, 6 mags, Staggers on full damage hit, Thermal optic Role: This more demanding variant of Diligence rewards more precise shooting with higher damage. It is better at stopping large targets but is less effective at picking off enemies. Lore: as part of the Ironbreaker initiative, many weapons are being issued new nitro ammunition. The diligence CS has undergone a more extensive upgrade. A new barrel and chamber designed to maximize lethality with the new ammo has greatly increased stopping power. The CS can stop devastators, bile spewers, berserkers, and similar targets with just a few hits. It has also been outfitted with a thermal sight to see through fog, sand, gas, and smoke.
Retribution(New), 275 DMG, 8 Round mag, Bolt action, Rounds reload, Silenced, AP Role: Longest range DMR, remarkably quiet and powerful, ideal for dropping large targets and protecting teammates from range.
Wyvern(New), 110DMG, 360 RPM, 26 Round magazine, 8 Mags, AP, Full Auto capable Role: Assault DMR, designed to be used aggressively at close range while permitting the user to provide long-range support.
SMGs (Classwide rework) Role: SMGs put holes in targets, not through them. SMGs have been largely replaced by Rifles in modern warfare, the same should apply to Helldivers. This shouldn’t make the useless, but instead good at different things. SMGs should be suited to personal defense and reliability under a wider variety of circumstances than rifles. SMGs have classwide damage nerf to reflect their lower caliber and have very noticeable damage falloff. However, they get a buff in every other area, with the most notable being that each SMG carries 12 mags instead of 8. SMGs are still capable of dropping larger targets with one mag, and with their lower recoil, they can reliably do so. But are now better suited to protecting the user from groups of weaker enemies.
Defender, 40 DMG, 720 RPM, 5 recoil, 12 Mags, Lightning fast reload Role: User-friendly and economical weapon, very easy to use. Less power than assault rifles but puts rounds where they need to be. Lore: The original Defender SMG was actually a failure, being prohibitively expensive to produce both the weapon and its ammo. Although it was a very popular weapon during peacetime, the demands of the war have made the defender a rare sight. To ensure that SEAF forces had a reliable weapon for CQC, the Defender A2 has been put into production. High command has changed its standard handgun cartridge from the .43 Hawk Tungsten core AP round to the cheaper 8mm FMJ round. The new defenders have an increased rate of fire and are more controllable but lacks the stopping power of the original.
Knight, 35 Damage, 900RPM Full auto, 1300rpm burst, 8 Recoil, 12 mags Role: PDW, Delivers a torrent of rounds quickly and accurately. Burst fire is ideal for mid-range enemies, full auto puts down groups of lightly armored enemies. Lore: The A4 knight variant features an electrically operated feed instead of a gas-operated one. This has enabled the weapon to fire at a more controllable rate in full auto while preserving medium-range accuracy with a 1300rpm hyperburst. It has also been outfitted with a less powerful round that is lighter and more economical, improving total ammo carried and recoil control at the cost of stopping power.
Shinobi(New) 50 DMG, 540RPM, 25 Round mag, Silenced Role: Spec-ops SMG for quietly dispatching groups of unarmored enemies. Less effective than other options in a firefight but perfect for sneaking around
Sweeper(New) 40 DMG, 800RPM, 80 Round drum, 8 mags, terrible ergonomics Role: Space Tommy gun, this weapon is designed to put as many rounds as possible down range as fast as possible, where said rounds land is irrelevant. Ammo hungry but very mobile.
I am aware these changes are extensive and won’t likely be implemented. I don’t believe that every weapon should be OP or god tier, but they should all have some niche where they really excel. Have a nice day and good luck Helldivers.

2024.05.14 12:40 Specialist_Bake6514 Vapiano P3: Italian Food Made in Germany

Vapiano P3: Italian Food Made in Germany
The kitchen is on fire. Welcome to the final part of the Vapiano story where the tables are turning. In the first two episodes we followed Mark Korzilius' journey from setbacks to founding Vapiano, a groundbreaking restaurant concept, highlighting its fresh ingredients, dynamic atmosphere, and data-driven operations that drove rapid success. While achieving initial profitability and garnering attention from industry giants like McDonald's, Vapiano's global expansion has led to stellar revenue growth. However, it has also resulted in the emergence of numerous side projects (or distractions), operational challenges, increased costs, significant investments, and a notable accumulation of debt. This underscores the prioritization of top-line growth over profitable growth. We will continue on this thread and see how the story ends, but I would encourage you to read part one and two for better context. Vapiano P1: Italian Food Made in Germany (substack.com). Let's dig in.
Before Going Public
We are now in 2015 and the year is a disaster for Vapiano's PR department. Employee time stamps are being manipulated, endless overtime for employees and high turnover in managerial roles are reported; mice in the kitchen and even rotten food allegedly found.
The company is confronted with allegations of exceeding working hours among trainees in an article published by Welt am Sonntag, while the same outlet accuses Vapiano of manipulating punch times. The auditing firm PwC is commissioned to investigate the allegations and finds that there is no systematic approach but rather misconduct by individual employees, a mistake that’s being corrected. Internal however, investigations into stamp times are carried out regularly now and beyond its obvious reputational impact, this sucks up valuable management time and attention.
In the summer of 2015 CEO, co-founder and investor Gregor Gerlach, who has been running the group since 2011 is stepping down and Jochen Halfmann is taking over. A new Vapiano People Program with an App is being developed with the aim to better interact with customers that will incorporate innovate features such as mobile pay. The German website sees a launch of new magazine to further promote the brand and there is now a full inhouse blogger and Instagram team being installed. In October the company buys seven restaurants from original co-founder, former co-investor and ex-president previously responsible for internation expansion Kent Hahne (2x Bonn, 3x Cologne, 1x Koblenz and one in Cologne that’s under construction). This package of Vapiano restaurants is very successful and generates net sales of more than 20 million euros in 2014. Hahne opened his first Vapiano restaurant in Cologne in August 2006 and in 2015 with his company apeiron AG, Hahne operates six L'Osteria franchise restaurants, a direct Vapiano competitor, and two self-owned restaurants GinYuu.
Then in November of 2015, the next public relations bomb goes off with allegations regarding the company's quality standards. The company immediately investigates the issue through internal and external specialists but finds no evidence of any quality issues. Nevertheless, knowing that the group is now being closely watched, the company’s already in place hygiene standards are being reinforced. Additional audits and inspections are performed nationally. Further, all Vapianos worldwide are being audited twice by the partners SGS Institut Fresenius and SAI Global. Auditing software is purchased to simplify the implementation of the audits and the resulting measures. Apart from the external examinations, there is a food sampling plan in place being performed continuously. Again, all of this sucks up costs, management time and attention. With all these tumultuous developments the company’s growth engine is undeterred. Revenue grows by a whopping 50 million euros to 202 million euros, an increase of 33%. Impressive. While average spent per customer increases in all countries, the number of customers per day in Germany decreases by 3.3% partially due to the negative press towards the end of the year. Five own, four JV and 19 new franchise restaurants are added that year to the group, the total number of own managed restaurants grows to 51, there are 31 JVs and 84 franchises which bringing the total to 166 Vapiano restaurants. Global restaurant sales are now above 400 million euros.
But while revenue grows by an astronomical 50 million euros, operating profits, alarmingly, shrink again. Gross margins are staying perfectly healthy above 75% but operating costs keep growing disproportionately fast. The Company’s outstanding debt jumps by almost 30 million, close to 85 million euros by the end of the year. With operating profits at 9.5 million euros, alarm bells should be going off right now.
In Q4 of 2015, new CEO Jochen Halfmann introduces Strategy 2020. The new strategy includes five essential points. One, profitable growth in the newly defined core markets of Germany and Austria as well as in the UK, Netherlands, France and USA. Two, operational excellence through strict “best practice” management. Three, further development and digitalization of the concept considering guest feedback. Four, greater focus on long-term employee retention and five, building a modern and sustainable IT landscape. Sound’s good on paper but let’s see how things pan out.
Vapiano's investments (capital expenditures) that year are primarily directed towards new restaurant openings, renovations of existing establishments, and share acquisitions in other Vapiano restaurants from franchisees or JV partners. A significant portion of funds is allocated to the digitalization of the guest experience, including the development of a new app scheduled for market release in 2016 and the implementation of a time recording system across all group restaurants. The world's first standalone Vapiano restaurant with a delivery service that year is built in Fürth, Germany. The company keeps expanding its presence in both inner-city locations and international markets, such as Shanghai, China.
To finance all of this, the group has its own operating cash flow which comes in at 18 million while capital expenditures are 26 million euros plus 14 million for acquisitions. The funding gab is filled with 26 million euros of new debt and a seven-million-euro equity raise. At that end of the year and after the equity raise Gregor Gerlach (through his AP Leipzig GmbH & Co. KG entity) holds 30.1%, Hans-Joachim and Gisa Sander through their Exchange Bio GmbH hold 25.5% and the Tchibo heirs, Herz through their Mayfair Beteiligungsfonds II GmbH & Co. KG hold 44,4%.
But for the first time the restaurant’s concept that was so successful to date is being questioned. Some customers are starting to mislike the operational flow of the concept itself. If you want pasta, you must queue for pasta. If you want pizza you stand in a different queue. A small side salad, yet another queue. "You spend more time carrying trays than an actress in Berlin-Mitte. The audience in the pasta limbo can only consist of people who have worked for an insurance company for a long time and, like Stockholm syndrome, they can no longer get away from the industrial canteen feeling," writes TV host Beisenherz provocatively. While overly harsh in his assessment he's not entirely wrong judging by customers venting their frustrations in forums and social media channels. It isn’t uncommon for those who ordered pizza to have already finished eating while there is little movement in the pasta queue. Long term that doesn't go down well, QSRs competitors like L’Osteria are handling this process differently, with much success.

Tipping Point

Where are now in the year 2016 and things start to deteriorate visibility. Perhaps not for the leman’s eye but any business minded observer can see that there are problems under the hood. Yes, revenue grows yet another whopping 50 million to almost 250 million euros but half of that growth, comes from acquisitions of restaurants that the group didn’t already own 100%, which is now being fully consolidated within the group’s accounts. Here is a concrete example. In the past, Vapiano SE, the group’s top holding company held an indirect 50% stake in a French subgroup via the subsidiary VAP Restaurants SA, based in Luxembourg, and included this as an associated company in the Vapiano SE consolidated financial statements using the equity method. Due to the acquisition of additional shares in September of 2016, Vapiano SE's indirect share in the French subgroup increased to 75%. This means that Vapiano SE takes control of the French subgroup, which is therefore included in the group’s financial statements as part of the full consolidation. The revenue from the acquired subsidiary now recorded in the consolidated income statement amounts to 12.8 million euros. While that’s great for the top line, the loss of the fully consolidated entity equates to 0.2 million euros. Yes, you are buying revenue, but there are losses attached to them, not profits. A similar case is the Swedish entity that runs eight restaurants with revenue of 11.5 million euros but has losses of 235 thousand euros. So much for Strategy 2020 and “profitable” growth.
That year the group’s operating profits are absolutely tanking, halving to 3.5 million euros. Operating profits are now a mere 1,4% of revenue. Remember original founder Mark Korzilius who talked about operating margins of 25% to 28% at the restaurant level? Yes, there are overhead costs for the organization that sits above the chain of restaurants, but operating margins that low indicates a course correction is needed. What’s telling is that in the annual report, in the management discussion section, the company starts talking about EBITDA as a proxy measure of profitability, rather than operating profit or net income. This wasn’t the case in the years before. Is this window dressing for an upcoming IPO? EBITDA is short for earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization. How can you measure profitability of a restaurant chain that absolutely and unequivocally needs capital investment to maintain its restaurant operations, the very source of cash generation, by simply excluding this maintenance charge (depreciation in the income statement)? Vapiano’s own annual report talks about the fact that existing restaurants must be rejuvenated from time to time and that new interior designs have to be implemented every few years. These things wear and tear, they go out of style, kitchen equipment breaks and needs replacement. This business absolutely needs maintenance capital expenditure, why anyone talks of profits before these maintenance costs is beyond me. Fun fact: in the previous annual report EBITDA is mentioned seven times, mostly around restaurant acquisitions and financing, not however as a profit indication for the group. In the new annual report, EBITDA is mentioned 28 times. Maybe it’s just me but belated Charlie Munger liked to call EBITDA: bullsh*t earnings. When in doubt I stick with Charlie. Interestingly, EBITDA for Vapiano keeps growing while operating and net profits keep falling.
Operating cashflow for the group that year is about 21 million euros, but capital expenditure is 30 million and acquisitions for subsidiaries another 20 million. To finance these expenditures another 28 million euros of debt and 16 million of equity is raised. Net debt rises above 130 million euro. The operating cashflow of the group before any capital expenditures is 21 million euros. I am not sure free cash flow would be significantly positive after maintenance capex is paid out; it’s not broken out so we can’t be sure. Granted, I am not on the ground during this time, and I am not in the board room, I am simply reading what’s in front of me, but to me this is starting to look like a distressed situation. Regardless, the following year the company goes public.

IPO

Where are now in the year 2017 and its Vapiano’s first year as public company. The company’s annual report reads the following “Sales revenue, like-for-like growth (LfL) and the earnings figures EBITDA and adjusted EBITDA are used as the most important financial performance indicators for controlling operational business activities.” The very same report however also says: “The majority of the group's investments regularly go towards opening new restaurant locations and modernizing existing restaurants. The latter are differentiated into regular replacement investments that occur during ongoing operations (Maintenance CAPEX) and fundamental investments in the renovation of a restaurant (Remodeling CAPEX). On average, a restaurant remodeling takes place nine years after opening.” It says it right there in their own report; every nine years a remodeling is taking place. Remodeling and updating is not cost free, so why exclude depreciation charges which reflect capital expenditures? I understand that perhaps you would want to strip out one-off opening costs, that’s fine and fair, but don’t go overboard.
The number of restaurants increases by 26 (previous year: 13) to a total of 205. The increase consists of 27 new openings and one closure. Group revenue grows to an astonishing 325 million euros but here comes the shocker, operating profits turn negative to 25 million. Fine, strip out foreign exchange losses of 3 million, IPO costs of 5.8 million and new opening costs of 6.1 million and you still have 10 million euros of operational losses. All the while the debt load of almost 130 million hasn’t materially changed, so those operating losses are before a six-million-euro interest payment. 184 million euros are raised through the IPO of which 85 million go to the company. This money is earmarked for further expansion as the group has ambitions to almost double the footprint to 330 restaurants by the end of 2020. The company is currently not profitable on an operating basis, and still wants to expand aggressively? I don’t get it. The remaining 100 million euros of the IPO money raised is distributed to co-founder Gregor Gerlach and Wella heirs Hans-Joachim and Gisa Sander. The family office of the former Tchibo owners Günter and Daniela Herz with a 44% stake, don’t sell a single share. After the IPO, 32% of all the company’s shares are now in free float.
One year later, in 2018, things get even worse. Revenue grows to 371 million, but operating losses mount to 85 million euros, that’s before interest expenses of 9 million. Even the beloved EBITDA figure turns negative, meaning the operating business before any expansionary or even maintenance capital expenditures is loss making. All regions are experiencing significant deterioration in their earnings profiles. Like for like sales are down 1% across the board. That’s revenue, not profitability. The question naturally arises: is the Group approaching its natural saturation point here or this operational by nature? The operating cash flow is now 9 million while financing cost are close to 7 million. That leaves 2 million for maintenance capital for 74 own restaurants and 76 joint ventures ones. Describing this as financially tight, would be an understatement.
Things are not looking good at this point. Yet the company still grows restaurants by 26 new sites. 64 million euros are spent on acquisitions, new openings, and maintenance costs, financed through a 20 million-euro equity raise and 72 million of new debt. The Company now has net debt outstanding of over 160 million euros. After the equity raise and by the end of the year 2018, Mayfair owns 47.4%, VAP Leipzig, Gregor Gerlach’s entity owns 18.9% and the Sander couple own 15.5% of the company. Yes, the Sanders and Gerlach may have taken 100 million euros off the table, but they still have substantial skin in the game. Plus, Mayfair hasn’t sold a single share and instead injects more money into the company through the equity round. The stock has now fallen from its IPO price of 23 euros per share to under 6 euros by the end of 2018. Something must be done here. And indeed, there is pivot in strategy and a hard push for change. At last, the management team abandons its aggressive growth plan and curtails new openings significantly. Additionally, the team wants to run a thorough analysis of weak locations to then either discontinue or sell sites. In Europe, the operating focus will be put on corporate restaurants and joint ventures in major cities to ensure the ideal size and location to match the respective demographic target group. Outside of Europe, the franchising business is being expanded and at the same time a consolidation of the existing corporate and joint venture markets is being sought. All future investments will be reviewed to achieve higher rates of returns on new openings. Investments are also being made in the renovation of older restaurants. The goal in the future is to also open smaller formats, like Mini-Vapianos (less than 400 square meters) or Freestander at prominent transportation hubs outside city centers (currently in Fürth and Toulouse) to cater to individual location requirements, and to enter new partnerships. I am not sure why management hasn’t stopped all expansion altogether, bringing the ship in order first, getting profitable, clean up, all hands-on deck before considering any further expansions whatsoever. But again, it’s easy to comment from the sidelines; maybe they saw white spaces that would be covered by competing concepts if they weren’t moving fast and aggressively enough. Although pushing internationally means competing with local players such as Jamie's Italian, Prezzo, Pizza Express, Wagamama, Nando's and many more which brings in its own dynamic.
Management also aims to enhance guest satisfaction. This involves refining operational processes, reorganizing the support center, and refocusing on the core offering: providing fresh and high-quality Italian food at affordable prices for a broad audience. The group also aims to reduce waiting times, especially during lunch, while also improving the evening atmosphere. There is even what I would call an evolution, away from Vapiano’s original concept, reorientating the customer journey. The ordering flow is being changed, offering guests synchronized preparations of all dishes while eliminating wait times at the cooking stations. The open show kitchen remains, staying true to original mantra of freshness and transparency but now guests can choose their preferred method of ordering through a mobile app, using a digital order point (kiosk), or by personally placing an order with a waiter. Guests can still freely choose their table and are then informed about the complete preparation of their order through a pager or their smartphone. This is a substantial deviation from the original concept, but a needed one. The group is also exploring and implementing the expansion of take-away and home delivery services but only at suitable locations, not universally across new openings. I am not sure why home delivery is even a priority here; it adds operational complexity. It’s better to clean up shop first and get back to the basics before adding new complexities. To be fair management does try to simplify. There are 49 different permanent dishes on the menu and additional 10 seasonal ones. Customers can choose from eleven different types of pasta. There is simply too much choice, and it makes orders complicated. The company announced to slim the menu down to its most popular and typical Vapiano dishes. There’s no need for an Asian salad at an Italian restaurant. "We have to go back to the roots, i.e. classic, honest Italian cuisine" says COO Everke. Regardless, in November of 2018, the supervisory board pulls the plug on CEO Jochen Halfmann and replaces him with Cornelius Everke. Everke himself has just become COO five months ago. Since 2017 he was responsible for international expansion. From 2011 to 2017 that role was filled by Mario Bauer – put a pin in that name, he’ll play a key role in the groups fate later. Then nine months later, in the middle of 2019, Cornelius Everke quits. He essentially concludes that his skillset and experience in the areas of internation expansion is no longer needed in the foreseeable future. To put it differently: Vapiano has moved from a growth story and has become a restructuring case, and other skills are required for that job. In June of 2019 Everke says the following “(we’ve) made a bit of a mistake when it came to foreign expansion”. No sh#t. Vapiano postpones the presentation of the 2018 annual financial statements three times in the spring of 2019, citing negotiations over an urgently needed loan of 30 million euros. It’s not until the end of May that a binding loan commitment comes through from the financing banks and major shareholders.
We are now in August of 2019 and the corona pandemic is just around the corner. Supervisory board chief Vanessa Hall takes over as interim-CEO and things are unravelling. Visitor numbers are declining; originally, it was planned to sell the US business but halfway through the year the buyer cannot come up with the money. But not all restaurants are performing poorly. The group's poor figures contrast starkly as an example with the experiences of the Swiss-German franchisee, who runs six restaurants. The Sodano family in Switzerland pays Vapiano a royalty of 6% of sales for the use of the brand. Enrico Sodano explains in an interview that they operate largely autonomously from the licensor. If an “accident” were to occur, he could immediately replace the Vapiano sign with Sodano, he says. The family concluded the rents and contracts with employees and suppliers independently. The Sodano family have six locations in Bern, Basel and Zurich, around one million guests every year and 350 employees. Things are going well on the ground. The delivery service they’ve built is offering them a second income stream. Expansion into Winterthur, St. Gallen and Lucerne are being planned; small locations with 150 to 250 square meters and an attached delivery service. Originally, Vapiano restaurants used to be huge but for such a large restaurant to be profitable, 800 to 1,000 guests per day are needed. That’s possible in medium-sized cities, but not in smaller towns which is why the Vapiano group now also supports smaller formats. Back to our corporate drama. The 2019 annual report would be the last report the group files. By the end 2019 the outstanding debt of the company is at an astronomical 450 million euros. Revenue has grown by another 7%, produced by four net new openings through two JVs and two franchise restaurants but operating losses come in at 317 million euros. That sound like an absolute shocker at first but depreciation and amortization charges are 345 million, so that operating cash flow is actually positive but unfortunately capital expenditures and interest payments are so large that they are eating up all of the company’s operating cash flow. Then in the beginning of 2020 Corona hits with full force and the world shuts down. As a result of the measures to prevent further spreading of the virus, the group is forced to cease all global business operations (except in Sweden). While all these shutdowns are happening, the group is the middle of negotiating with its lending banks and main shareholders. There are additional financing needs for restructuring measures, even without a pandemic happening in the background. The situation is so dire that the company starts pleading to the German government to roll out the package of financial help more quickly. Unfortunately, it’s to no end. The rapid closure of restaurants and the resulting lack of operating cash inflows in conjunction with the additional financing requirements, lead to the company’s final knockout punch. In April of 2020, the Vapiano group officially files for insolvency proceedings. The end of an era.

New Beginnings

Because of the pandemic, the majority of the group's subsidiaries in Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, the United States, Sweden, and China also file for insolvency or seek liquidation. The US business never gets sold in the end and is wound down. In the summer of 2020, significant group divestments occur, including the sale of 75% shares in the group's French subsidiaries, shares in franchisor companies, Australian subsidiaries, German subsidiaries, associated companies, self-managed restaurants in Germany, and insolvency-related sales in the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Sweden. The buyer of the Vapiano brand and one of these bundles of Vapiano restaurants is company named Love & Food Restaurant Holding, a consortium led by Mario C. Bauer – a name I told you to remember. Bauer was a former Vapiano board member and led the national and international expansion, opening 200 sites in 33 countries from 2011 to 2017 until he was succeeded by Cornelius Everke. Bauer didn’t feel comfortable with the IPO at the time but clearly has a lot of managerial and entrepreneurial talent.
The buyer consortium is an absolute A-Team comprised of European QSR top league hitters, including the founder of the Pret A Manger chain Sinclair Beecham; Henry McGovern, the founder and Ex-CEO of the giant international restaurant and foodservice operator AmRest; the Van der Valk Family that runs hotels and Vapiano restaurants in the Netherlands, and co-founder and ex-CEO Gregor Gerlach. The acquisition value is 15 million euros and entails 30 Vapiano restaurants in Germany, albeit that’s just the purchase price which comes on top of any capital investment needed to refresh and return the sites to its former glory. Nevertheless, just as a thought experiment, if you can get each site to 2 million euros of revenue and 400,000 euros in operating profit on average, which wouldn’t be an overly aggressively assumption given the company’s history, you’ve got yourself a package that can deliver restaurant-level operating profits of 12 million euros or more. It’s not disclosed how much capex was needed to refresh the operations, just that fact that the overall investment plus purchase price was a middle double-digit million-euro figure. Stil, it probably was a decent purchase. The same consortium buys Vapiano’s French business for 25 million euros just two weeks prior. After the transaction concludes, the master franchise is given to Delf Neumann and his Gastro & Soul GmbH. Neumann is an experienced operator, and he is ambitious to revitalise the brand with new services and products. For example, instead of pizza, the restaurants will be serving pinsa - a flatbread made from sourdough, wheat and rice flour, topped similarly to a pizza. It targets a more health-oriented customer base looking for a less calory heavy option. The menu overall is expanded by including a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes.
https://preview.redd.it/kpt7ea6red0d1.png?width=1242&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9930ced85ee364e9df414547cae06b47a03fc19
Today Neumann’s Gastro & Soul GmbH operates 18 Vapianos on its own account and has 29 franchise sites, amongst other brands. By the year 2021, Vapiano operates 191 restaurants in 34 countries. This is around 50 fewer sites than before the bankruptcy. The number of branches is particularly thinned out in Germany – from 80 to 55. Nevertheless, Vapiano's home country remains by far the largest market, followed by France with 35 restaurants and Austria with 15 locations. “We have shrunk ourselves to health,” says Bauer in the aftermath and there is no further shrinking planned. Quite the opposite, the smell of expansion is in the air again – pun intended. Not as aggressively as before and with a new menu and ordering process.
Overall, the team around Bauer is filled with industry experts with knowledge and networks gained over decades who have a great track record, a long-term view, and the staying power to let Vapiano breath and finds its way back to success. The pressure of being a public company with all the associated quarterly, half-year and yearly disincentives have been removed. The menu is changed and extended with new types of pasta and sauces with significantly more vegetarian and vegan dishes available. Guests can order with restaurant staff, at terminals or on their phones and there are barcodes attached to the tables identify the respective seat. The food is brought to your table, all at the same time if you are in a group, no more annoyances with waiting in line. There is a plan for smaller, 350 square meter locations, with half the number of guests and significantly fewer staff and less set-up costs required to make the economics work. Locations that capitalize on remote work and increased demand for local lunch options, higher population density with shorter delivery routes and therefore cost-effective in house delivery services are targeted. And Bauer is testing the concept of ghost kitchens, which operate without a dining room or service staff, focusing solely on preparing food for delivery services, which for obvious reasons have a very different operational set up and footprint. Original founder Mark Korzilius however is not entirely convinced. He is not a fan of the pinsa for instance and he considers Vapiano's pizza as its cash cow, flagship product and believes that the core Vapiano proposition of Pizza, Pasta, Bar that has given the company its original success is being diluted. He instead admires the competitor L'Osteria, saying they’ve done a better job by focusing on Italian classics, especially the impressively large pizzas that sticks out beyond the plate is leaving every customer in awe. The guys who run L’Osteria are the same guys who have built Vapiano with him in the first place. Bauer on the other hand, like a true business leader, remains undeterred, stating that he is frequently asked whether Vapiano's restart was bold or foolish. He believes in entrepreneurship, franchising, in his experienced fellow partners and importantly the Vapiano concept. By the year 2024 you can find over 140 Vapiano branded restaurant in 27 countries across the globe, including locations far away from its birthplace like Australia, USA, Columbia, Chile, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. And why not? Italian food is, and will remain to be, incredibly popular. Vapiano offers fresh and tasty food at affordable prices in a good atmosphere. This combination of attributes should attract a lot of customers. It certainly has in the past.

2024.05.13 22:43 ClericKyan Assistance in reading dmp file for NETIO BSOD event

I've bene trying to troubleshoot BSOD errors for a friend and I've been trying to isolate the issue from the minidump files using WinDbg. The motherboard had already been replaced through warranty due to similar networking issues, however the NETIO BSOD has returned.
Previously to the new motherboard I had done numerous things including a Reset then USB reinstall of Windows.
Troubleshooting thus far post-new motherboard:
SFC /Scannow
System Restore
As indicated by Research- uninstalled AVG VPN, Auto Driver Updater
Programs in use:
AVG, Zone Alarm
As it has returned it would seem to indicate that a security program is at fault or, perhaps, there is some 'toe stepping' on memory access. Most recent research as also indicated a uninstall reinstall of NIC drivers. I don't often go Dmp diving. I hope someone with more experience in this area can assist in locating the culprit for the NETIO. I hope its something glaring that I'm just missing. If possible could the reading for the solution be explained so I have a better idea of how to procced in the future in these instances. Thank you for your time and efforts.

2024.05.13 18:42 ZiggyPanda Opinions on weapons and armour. Request for staggering War bonds to seasonal content, every 3 months with a 9 page bond.

Assault Rifles

Submachine Guns

- Pummeler: this is in a good spot imo, baseline weapon powerful, fun but obvious limitations. - Knight: the one gun I have no idea what to do with TBH - Defender: seems fine too, maybe make it hit even a bit harder than the pummeler as it doesn’t stagger. That’s the trade off. Buffing damage obviously takes into account if AR's are buffed to above where SMG's are right now.

Shotguns

- Punisher: baseline, feels fun to use with obvious limitations, hits hard and has good range, staggers like it should. - Slugger: given the slug nature compared to the other shotguns it should be the most powerful single target shotgun, needs stagger back defo. Fun with a mouse and key but hard to use effectively with controller even before the nerf. - Breaker: restore the mag size to launch number, that’d make it baseline again - Breaker incendiary: baseline, great gun right now super fun - Breaker Spray and Pray: I’ve honestly had no need to use this weapon over incendiary.

Marksman rifles

Explosive

- Eruptor: This gun felt really fun and I reckon baseline at launch bar too many mags which may be an actually good nerf balance wise, I never knew about any exploits myself until after nerf but using this with a stalwart had me smiling. Defo keep its bug nest, fabricator clearing ability. Restore its glory! - Crossbow: this puzzled me and was the breaking point for me personally regarding AH’s approach to balance because I thought it needed a buff to compete with the eruptor yet it was nerfed. Should do big damage, basically one shot single med pen targets or spewers on direct hits. Treat more like a specialised grenade launcher with support stalwart as primary, less splash than grenades but great for chargers asses and stripping legs. Increase power and lower velocity I think, make it a skill based weapon. Have it close holes and fabricators and open crates. - Jar 5 dominator: baseline honestly, needs more patience than other shotguns when using to shine due to handling but it does. Let it open crates atleast.
- Punisher Plasma: I need to try it out more but I hear good things post buff, could be baseline. Should atleast open crates but maybe not close holes and fabricators idk - Blitzer: so close to baseline, maybe the arc inconsistencies and the upgrade to chained target applying to it also could get it there. - Scythe: all I can say is with a controller, it’s no fun, hear mixed opinions with mouse and key - Sickle: honestly on cold planets, baseline choice and the ammo debuff doesn’t hurt it there. Outside cold planets it gets tricky but I think that should be it’s unique selling point. - Scorcher: right now, pretty much there baseline wise. - Purifier: Dead on arrival, could be as much fun as launch eruptor if reworked in an interesting way.

Secondary Weapons

- Peacemaker: with a laser sight compared to redeemer I think it’s fair to stay, mainly for ballistic shield builds it has use but also like the liberator reminds you where you started. - Redeemer: single shot, this gun still beats the new verdict IMO for DPS. Baseline on that alone. Fun to spray in a pinch but mag count balances it. Lacks laser sight for First Person Ballistic Shield tho which is a shame. - Senator: Good baseline now it has a speed loader, not a fan of the sights or reticle though but thats me. Also hard to use in First Person with ballistic shield. -Dagger: Like the scythe maybe with mouse and key, better aim, its great for weakpoints on bots but i don't have any fun with it myself. - Verdict: More mags and the laser sight could make it a good Ballistic Shield gun if using in First Person but I also feel just adding med pen armour would just tip it to a baseline choice.

Grenades

Armour Passives

Rather than individual armours I wanna talk about the passives and what new ones could replace the abundance of identical ones.
- Democracy Protects: 50% less chance of getting killed by lethal damage and prevents bleeding from chest haemorrhages. First part is interesting but second part never really noticed myself, fine but perhaps could just be 50% less chance of getting killed by lethal damage and 25% chance for limbs to not break*.* Making this a 'Luck' Style armour.
- Engineering Kit: Reduces recoil while crouching or laying down by 30% and increases grenade capacity by 2. At the moment apparently this effects all recoil regardless of crouching or laying down, which honestly should remain. make it Reduces recoil by 30% and increases grenade capacity by 2. Baseline!
- Extra Padding: Increases Armor Rating. A baseline for new players.
- Fortified: Reduces recoil while crouching or laying down by 30% while granting 50% resistance to explosions. I would change to perhaps Reduce Flinching effect by 30% when crouching or prone while granting 50% resistance to explosions.
- Med Kit: Increases Stim capacity by 2 and increases their duration by two seconds. Baseline, very good passive buffs.
- Servo-Assisted: Increases grenade throwing range by 30% and adds 50% bonus to limb health. Instead of Limb Health, I think the whole passive should be Increases grenade throwing range by 30% and support weapons reloads by 15%
- Scout: Markers placed on maps scan the area every two seconds, reduces enemy detection by 30% Honestly our go to armour right now, baseline, whether because it's working as intended or not.
- Electrical Conduit: 95 percent resistance to arc damage. Almost there honestly but I think adding a secondary would make it more fun, like 95% resistance to arc damage and increase Fire rate of arc based weaponry by 10%

Suggestions for other passives for existing/ future armours

- Feel the Burn: Take 80% less Fire Damage from all sources, movement speed increased while on fire by 20% I could see some intentional self immolation to quickly speed grab samples, finish artillery loading in fire tornados or make an escape from a large group, also a good counter to the Hulk Scorcher. Risk vs Reward.
- Artic Explorer: Reduce movement penalty in deep snow and during blizzard hazards by 50%. More Traction on Ice. I considered maybe giving a reduce detection buff instead but I'd rather just have a scout armour with polar colours.
- Geologist: Samples appear marked on the main map when in 50 metre proximity and sample outlines can be seen through terrain at 25 metres. Shows outlines of dropped sample containers too within 25 metres. When ya hunting specifically for samples this would be a handy set for one diver to bring. Like with scout the marking on map doesn't apply squad wide and would show as blinking dots representing their rarity, green/orange/purple. Could also have a hidden buff that audibly warns being in a meteor shower impact zone.
- Flexible Shoulder Pads: Increase solo reload speed for backpack weapons by 30% and increase melee damage by 50% The main draw here is obviously the first buff, it wouldn't affect non backpack support weapons like the railgun or AMR (The Servo-Assisted reload buff I suggested covers those but less of a buff) but Spear, Airburst, Autocannon, Recoilless etc.
- Analyst: Highlights mission critical objects of interest in 50m proximity through terrain. Enemies and patrols temporarily show as red outlines through terrain when pinged. This is similar to the Geologist perks but instead of samples showing through terrain, terminals/ssd's/launch codes, artillery warheads, valve icons show from further away. Enemies also pulse three times (per 1.5 seconds) allowing you or perhaps even your whole team to get a better view. Extra hidden buff, see outlines of team mates when dropping in.
What do you guys think? It’s pretty clear now that trying to do this monthly content is just not working out, more issues than wins overall not to mention the longer this goes on the more intimidating it is for new players coming in having to spend thousands of super credits to just access the bonds and if they shortcut with real money are gonna feel let down with the lacklustre feeling of weapons and uninteresting new armour as they are now.
The latest war bond seems to be ignoring the last balance update numbers before it, which gives the impression things are too rushed as they are now. so the tenderiser (which doesn't even match the trailer colour wise) and purifier are pretty much dead on arrival. The Verdict feels underpowered with light pen now the senator has a speed loader etc
If this goes on we’re just gonna get more new weapons and armour that seem superfluous and often worse than existing launch weapons with more on the way before existing ones are properly fixed. Bear in mind a lot of players aren’t grinding for these bonds but again paying for them.
I think instead (if possible with Sony terms) the next 3 month gap between bonds should really work over issues with some existing armours and weapons, with interesting effects and unique elements that let them stand out. I think it would be easier holding back new content and releasing it in a massive dump too because the heavy users will unlock them immediately and bring to attention any issues needing a quick fix before the rest of the player base get their first impression spoiled.
The arc resistance to armour was the only real interesting post launch armour passive and it didn't even cover all Weights. Each war bond if remaining as monthly at the very least should introduce a new fun passive effect. Like others have said the Polar Bond giving an armour passive specific to snow planets with a secondary buff to run on ice without slipping would have been a lot more interesting.
The focus of balance now should be no nerfs, only buffs. The best weapons right now are the only fun ones to use ATM, none feel overpowered so make them the baseline.

2024.05.12 21:19 pbcig Sony X90J not sending audio to receiver via eArc

Hello, I have a Sony X90J and older Yamaha AV receiver which are connected via eArc. I don’t use the receiver for input switching since I only have two devices connected directly to the TV. When I first got the TV a couple of years ago the audio was always going through the receiver by default without any issues, and the receiver would power on and off with the TV power. Now about 80% of the time when I turn on the TV, the audio goes through the TV speakers and I need to go to the settings to send the audio to the receiver. Looking for advice on how to get the audio to default to the receiver rather than TV speakers. I poked around the TV settings but couldn’t find anything I thought would help. Thanks in advance.

2024.05.11 13:51 TurnaroundHaze5656 Hacking a Sony cassette-corder a little bit further

A lot of Sony cassette-corders aka Pressman from the 90s and early 2000s had a freq response of 200-6000 Hz (I had a TCM-313 which I unfortunately broke, and now I have a TCM-150 which I use; both have a freq response of 250-6300 Hz) - which kind of make sense as a dictaphone. However I am thinking of hacking it a bit further, as I had already modded it by replacing its built in microphone with a 3.5 mm jack for mic input soldered to the mic terminals, as both the speaker and mic smelled very nasty (I just removed the speakers tho as I cannot find a replacement and I would just connect the headphone jack to my speakers). I actually made a demo of this one.
So I am wondering: how could I make this one a bit better by widening its frequency response both for playback and recording? As a novice in electronics repair, I think I can replace its components, or recap something, but is it going to be worth it? I also have limited resources, so I think it's ok for me to take more time and effort in doing this.
Also, when I tried to replace its mono head with a stereo one, it records well when I connect the terminals in series but badly in parallel. Conversely, playback is good in parallel (although this might introduce a problem as I'm clashing the left and right channels) but bad in series (which sounds muffled as they try to cancel each other). From what I can tell, if I want to record in dual (2-track) mono audio it might need more power, but that's another story I can deal with later on.
Lastly, right now I can only think of this subreddit to ask questions like this. I might be not very active, but I will check this from time to time. Thank you very much in advance.

2024.05.10 19:45 LocusHammer Blood Bowl 2: Bretonnian Guide and Overall Team Perspective.

Bretonnian Guide Blood Bowl 2
Foreword
I know that Bloodbowl 3 is out, however, my league has not transitioned to BB3 yet since all the races have not been released. We are in our leagues 5th season right now. It is a small league, but the players are all great and there is a great discord. We recently required all coaches to start over with a new team last season at TV1000. I like the aesthetic of Bretonnia, so I selected them. Now that I have 11 games under my belt with them, I thought I might take a stab at a new updated guide. The one that google likes to point me to is from 5 years ago. Whats better than updated content for a game that is dead lmao. Anyway, for any new coaches interested in Bretonnia, here are my thoughts. Let me know what you think if youd like to.
Roster Breakdown
Positional Name Value MA ST AG AV Skills Skill Tree
Blitzer 110,000 7 3 3 8 Block, Catch, Dauntless Agility, Passing, General
Blocker 70,000 6 3 3 8 Wrestle Strength
Lineman 40,000 6 3 2 7 Fend General

Starting Roster – 1000 TV
I couldn't find a consensus Bretonnian starting Roster. This is what I used for my team and in my ladder games. Naturally YMMV. It uses full 1000 TV. Unfortunately, you will need to endure 1-2 games without an Apothecary. Hopefully you don't lose a Blitzer. Personally, I would not do less than 3 re-rolls, especially starting out. You will need to dodge more than you like and you will likely have to take 1 die blocks more than you'd like. At one point I had failed 6 straight dodge attempts with my ball carrier in 4 games. I've rolled one-dies into skulls more than I can count. You want re-rolls. There is an argument for buying the Apothecary and taking 3 blitzers but truthfully you want a full depth chart of blitzers immediately. I either lost or tied a majority of my games season 1 and led the league in casualty differential. Id expect that is common.
  1. 4 Blitzers
  2. 2 Blockers
  3. 5 Linemen
  4. 3 Re-Rolls
  5. 1 Fan Factor
  6. No Apothecary
Some stream of consciousness thoughts on how to play your first 2-5 games:
Building up the roster
Level Up Guide
Some thoughts on leveling your roster. These aren’t for sure the best choices, they are what I did or have been thinking about.
Blitzer
  1. All blitzers should get dodge as their first skill.
  2. Sidestep on your ball carrier is such a badass skill. Sidelines are now safe. You can protect your ball carrier with a 2 person cage on a sideline with sidestep.
  3. I put Sure Hands on my primary ball carrier. Dodge and Sure Hands make contested free balls a tasty opportunity to capitalize on.
  4. You should specialize your blitzers if you can. Ball Carry Specialization, Blitz Specialization, Ball-Carrier Attack Specialization, Safety / Deep Blitzing Specialization. These are all possibilities. (I haven’t gotten past level 4 on my main blitzer, these are untested and just thoughts)
  1. Theres also nothing wrong with 2-3 blitzers with dodge and tackle. Bread and butter wins games. All depends on your league.
  2. If you roll doubles or get a characteristic up you should prioritize: Str+, MA+, Mighty Blow (on blitz specialty). I have seen piling on but I don’t like the thought of putting a blitzer on the ground willingly.
Blocker:
  1. a. Blocker Standard: Guard, Stand Firm / Grab / Fend / Dauntless. For the second skill it just your preference – do you prefer pitch control or blocking.
  2. i. I would probably go Guard, Dauntless, Fend but I have not tested.
  3. ii. For Doubles, etc: Str+, Ar+, Dodge
  4. b. All blockers first skill should be Guard.
Lineman
  1. a. There are a lot of things you can do with linman if youre lucky with an MVP or injury. There is no standard choice, with lineman you should kinda go with your gut.
  2. b. If you use your lineman to foul, pick up sneaky git or dirty player, whichever your preference (just be sure you are using it!).
  3. c. I personally went with Kick/Wrestle on one, and Block on another. The block has been useful for pows.
  4. d. Kick is sneaky useful, however, it throws off standard defense formations as you need your lineman off the line and not in a wing. This makes you place a blocker on the line, a high risk block unfortunately. Overall I think the tradeoff has been worth it in my season. If you hit lvl 3 on a lineman, you have been playing a while and idk, do what you think is best.
Managing Team and Roster Game 1 and onwards
Final Thoughts:
TL:DR:
Bretonnian are a challenging and satisfying blood bowl team that utilizes a screen and pitch control focused running scheme on offense. On defense, the team focuses on defensive screens, positioning, and pitch control. If you like having Glory Hog Star Players, a Crusade Era Aesthetic, Taking down opponents much bigger than you, and playing smash mouth football, this team might be for you.
This is not a straight forward pow team. Its not an agility team. Its in between. Additionally, they might not be beginner friendly as they require extensive understanding of tackle zones and block support.
On Offense, This team will have trouble winning if they resort to traditional 4 man cage offensive scheme, like Khemri or Orcs, as they do not have the means of standing toe to toe with true bash teams, despite how much they want to. Despite no passing threat, Bretonnian Coaches can employ electric hand off plays to cover a vast amount of pitch in a single turn that can result in scoring plays worthy of a highlight reel to be talked about by your league mates.
On Defense, This team achieves winning results if they employ a patient screen and pitch control defensive scheme. Bretonnian rosters must work in tandem with each other to lock up running/passing lanes and restrict opponent movement in hopes of getting them to make a mistake or leave an opening. When an opening is identified, Bretonnian teams can plunge their Blitzers into opponents cage or back fields and wreak havoc.
Personally, I find them to be extremely fun and suggest you ignore the internet hate (perhaps hate is strong) and give em a shot. It will take a few games to get acclimated, but I imagine they will grow on you quickly.
Thank you for reading!
Thank you for reading, if you got this far. This was my first attempt at making a team guide. I hoped to both educate newcomer players on the team tactics and inspire discussion about a team that I have some trouble finding forum discussion on. I know BB2 is not current rn, but it runs great and having all the teams really sells it. Personally I think the UI is better in 2 also, but perhaps I am just used to it.
Would love to hear your thoughts if you have any, or helpful criticisms. Hopefully I was able to communicate effectively here and help some newcomers out.

2024.05.10 02:17 Actuallyy_Spider-Man What if DC was on the verge of bankrupt and had to sell their film rights instead of Marvel?

So, I had this idea a while back and wanted to share it. Obviously, it's not a highly probable situation, but it's a fun scenario. I'll look at it as if it were replacing the MCU, so here's the background: DC splits their iconic trinity up to Sony (Batman instead of Spider-Man), Universal (Superman instead of Hulk), and Fox (Wonder Woman instead of the Fantastic Four), as well as the Green Lantern Corps (instead of the X-Men) to Fox. Disney ends up getting everyone else, including the Flash, Aquaman, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, etc. So, the DCCU begins without some of DC's biggest characters. Here's how I think Phase One would go:

Pros:
  1. Warm neutral sound
  2. Laidback and relaxed treble
  3. Rich and full-bodied mid range
  4. Flexible and robust bass response
Cons:
  1. Lacks in treble energy
  2. Lacks in some technical aspects
Introduction
Kiwi Ears is a brand that has successfully established itself in the audiophile industry, receiving high accolades for its products and the value they provide. As I previously stated, with the exception of the original Orchestra, I have reviewed every single product that Kiwi Ears sells and they have never disappointed me in terms of sound quality. People already appreciate offerings like the Quintet and Cadenza for their favorable and balanced tuning. However, I believe they have delved further into different styled tunings to appeal to a broader range of audiophiles, which they accomplished well. Not only did they manufacture IEMs, but they also released the Allegro, a reasonably priced dongle dac that was well-received. They recently collaborated with Crinancle to create a one-of-a-kind release under $80 that employs a distinctive but not new method. The IEM is called as Singolo, and I was fortunate enough to receive a pair for review; but, before starting, I would like to clarify a few facts.

Disclaimer
*Since this unit tour was organised by the kindly people at Linsoul, I am grateful to them. As I've said in all of my evaluations, the same is true for this one: all of the concepts I've expressed below are entirely my own, original ideas that haven't been influenced by anyone else. If interested, go to this link.
*I am not associated with the connection, and I receive no financial assistance from anyone.
*For the remainder of the review, I will refer to these IEMs as “Singolo.”
*I am using different Ear-tips for convenience and better versatility.
*Finally, I will only evaluate the Singolo based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically.
Specification
The Singolo features a large 11mm custom Japan-made LCP dynamic driver on each side, and Kiwi Ears has implemented their new K.A.R.S technology, which appears to have introduced an elongated tubing structure for pressure release and airflow, with the understanding of Helmholtz resonance to regulate the tuning and manipulate the air pressure release to deliver the favourable bass response Kiwi Ears was achieving. The Shells are entirely manufactured of medical resin, specifically to apply their K.A.R.S technology and custom-built drivers. The shells are tiny and simple to slip into the ears, and the comfort is excellent even after extended listening sessions, however the nozzle adjustment may cause fit issues, as one of my friends experienced until he changed ear tips to ensure sufficient isolation. The bundled accessories are of lower quality than those offered by competing IEMs in this price range. As a result, I feel that the majority of the funding was spent on collaboration and IEM development. The accessories include a variety of eartips and a two-pin connection cable with an L-shaped 3.5mm termination plug. According to the technical specs, the impedance is 32 Ohms and the sensitivity is 108dB. The frequency response ranges from 20Hz to 20kHz.

Sound
The SIngolo's tuning tends toward a naturally warm tone that becomes increasingly pleasurable to listen to with each second. The bass response is optimized to sound larger, bodied, and genuine. Whatever I said, it wouldn't have mattered if the technology that the corporation was pleased to deliver to us wasn't effective. But, after giving it a good amount of time to understand and find logic, the only thing I was able to understand was that the driver used is of high quality, as is the use of the K.A.R.S technology, which is the implementation of acoustic tuning from the back of the driver to accentuate the air pressure, allowing for a dip around 200Hz-400Hz without affecting the natural tone that resides in that region. The whole response sounds genuine, lively, and right in every manner conceivable. The only issue I have is with the treble, yet it is what makes the Singolo sound great. Let's go further into the sound and learn more about it.
https://preview.redd.it/f6rhp4xr58zc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=a84ba3ace2fb59225dc42beb6ca4e80927e88b26
Treble
To be honest, the SIngolo's treble area lacks excitement and sparkle in the mix, but ample air and extension compensate for this, giving the treble region a solid presence. The response is also not the best in terms of note clarity or sharpness; however, the tuning tends to follow a natural and soothing response; personally, I don't like such a response dipping around 9kHz to 15kHz, subduing the tingling nuances and crispness of the notes, but it does make it sound more friendly and full-bodied while also keeping the listener engaged with a wholesome and natural sound. The upper treble extends sufficiently to provide enough air and space for the singers and instruments to breathe, making them seem open and alive. The lower treble, on the other hand, creates a pleasant interaction that the listener will find engaging. The lower treble contains enough energy to make the singers and instruments seem lively and upfront without being too hot or peaky, nor does it introduce any sibilance or tinniness. The notes have a more complete responsiveness and depth, sounding pleasing and melodic. As a result, the overall presentation of the treble range is soothing, natural, and enjoyable to listen to.
Mid Range
In addition, the way the treble is adjusted harmonizes the bass and mid-range response balance, resulting in a clear and distinct response, if I were to examine the response as a whole. The mid-range enhances the voices and instruments enough to make them feel present and easy, while also providing a large sound with an open response. The treble and bass are adjusted in such a way that they never interfere with the midrange's clear and natural sound. The upper mid-range resonates with the lower treble, resulting in a more weighty and prominent response; the vocals, whether male or female, have a vivid and fuller response; and the instruments have a rich and rounded response with a distinct quality that enhances the vocals' presence, making the response musical and pleasant. I should also point out that the slightly shy response of roughly 1kHz to 3kHz region contributes to the spacious sound. The lower mid-range has a strong presence, allowing for good note weight and density, making the response sound thick and solid without becoming muddy or mumbly. Both the voices and the instruments sound rich and distinct, lending weight to top frequencies while compensating for the natural tone quality. Maybe the spike between 300 and 600Hz brings that warmth to the tones. As a result, the mid-range response sounds full-bodied, rich, and open.
Bass
When it comes to bass, I have three key points to discuss: the technology employed, tuning, and the quality of the driver. Starting with the technology used, Kiwi Ears refers to it as K.A.R.S technology, which is the implementation of air pressure through elongated tubes to produce a more enhanced yet effortless bass response without interfering with any other region's natural quality of notes, essentially a cheat code that impresses me because no matter how many times I hear the Singolo, the region that is affected is not actually affected. The bass is tuned properly Harman, with sub-bass focus and enough mid-bass intensity to compensate. The sub-bass digs deep and hits hard, with plenty of rumble and power. The mid-bass has enough presence to make slams and thumps effective and engaging. Even if the notes aren't particularly precise, their number makes the response feel genuine and substantial. The rounded and weighted notes offer positive properties, allowing for a dynamic and engaging response. To be honest, I was skeptical at first and then perplexed since, while the response is packed with a powerful presence and each note conveys considerable differentiation without compromising integrity, it does not sound detailed or clear. I experimented with EQ and discovered that even when the sub-bass response was heavily emphasized, the driver did not distort or lose its composure. The best part is that even after heavily emphasizing the bass response, the mids remained completely clean and unaffected by the bass impact. This discovery finally led me to the conclusion that the driver utilized was of high quality and maybe wasn't intended to serve such a purpose. Overall, the bass area has a robust, forceful, and dense sound.
Technical Performance
So when it comes to technical agility, I am afraid to say that Singolo is not a remarkable IEM, mostly audiophiles search for clarity and details around this price range and there are many IEMs around this saturated segment. Therefore I believe this pair produce a more tonally pleasing sound. However do not get me wrong, due to such saturation and spreading information across the globe doesn’t make it fair for me to say that Singolo suffices and has decent technical quality as I do find them on par with its peers. The areas where I find it interestingly different are the imaging, layering and separation. Let’s discuss in specifics.
https://preview.redd.it/v4f9mwut58zc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=38505f64cf5b4af049489f616082618c2cf98813
Soundstage, Sound Imaging & Separation
The stage is spread out enough to sound spacious and open, due to the fact that the response is spread out from more in the left and right side rather than front or back. The impressive part is the imaging which brings precision and clarity with great distinction between the notes which overall produces a very potent and strong sense of the presentation. The separation between the notes is accurate and allows me to effortlessly pinpoint where the sound is coming from.
Speed & Resolution
Coming to the adequate resolution and details, the macro details are easy to surface yet the micro details suffer to come across. The attack and decay of the notes resolves at a natural pace which makes it sound more realistic even after not much refinement in the mix.
Sound Impressions
Sources
Sony WM1A - While listening to the Singolo with WM1A, the response seemed more expansive, with stronger treble extension and less emphasis on bass presence in the mix, resulting in a more dynamic and large sound with hint of warmth. The female vocals were given more importance, while the instrumentation complemented them. The stage felt more equally distributed across the surrounds, making it sound more lively and expansive with correct note placement. The mid-range notes, however, sounded slightly thin and were presented lightly.

Tempotec V6 - While listening to the Singolo with V6, the midrange response seemed significantly accentuated, and the bass was well-controlled yet weighty. The treble was a tad hazy in presence but nonetheless thriving. The whole presentation conveyed an intimate, direct, and engaging tone.

Simgot DEW4X - While listening to the Singolo with DEW4X, the response appears cleaner and tonally leaner, while the notes sound closer, bringing the details and resolution to a higher level. The control over the vocals improves the overall tone of the response. The instruments also sound more engaged, with an overall open and energetic tone. Another component to consider is the treble, which sounds more polished and linear. Overall, the response sounds more lively and balanced in terms of detail, positioning, and staging.

Quloos MUB1 - While listening to Singolo with MUB1, The overall response had a distinct and resolved sound, with a significant focus in the mid-range area, which enhanced the voice impression and delivered a more clear, crisp, and transparent sound; the same can be said for the instruments, albeit the impact of the notes was not as powerful. The treble was more present, with finer details, yet the air and extension felt the same. In contrast, the bass seemed less lively in the mix, but it was accurate and well-controlled. The intricacies were easily revealed, but their effect lacked the brightness of the notes and their strong presence.

Conclusion
To summarize this review, I believe Singolo is a uniquely introduced in-ear monitor that will appeal to a wide variety of audiences who can acquire it without hesitation to supplement their collection or for the first time test a really well tuned IEM from a highly complicated driver and its implementation. Singolo is a very well-tuned IEM based on a remarkable driver and genuine technology. Though I would stir away if I were searching for clarity and the details in this pair, I would still ask to give it a shot like I did. So, Kiwi Ears has once again earned my recommendation.

2024.05.08 05:02 DUNGAROO Received an estimate for a main panel replacement today. Roast me.

We just bought a 60 year old home with an old Pushmatic breaker panel. I would like to install a some additional high-draw appliances so we can ditch natural gas (electricity here is pretty cheap), so I had a local big name Electric/HVAC/Plumbing contractor come out to provide an estimate. For context this is in Virginia and the local county doesn't have any local ordinances that would impact the requirements in excess of what the state's adopted codes already require.
Things I was told by the estimator:
The itemized quote is below as follows:
Grand total: $15,808.09
Obviously I'm going to be getting at least 2 more prices, but wanted to hear from others if any of this is unnecessary/how much of a ripoff this estimate is compared to pricing in your area.

https://youtu.be/nUPr7hwAhT4
Lets cut to the point, I'm giving away ~115 Divs divided amongst 2 winners and separately giving away my Full build to a very lucky someone.
https://poe.ninja/builds/necropolis/characte1412/Sealed_Necropolis?i=0&search=name%3Dsealed
Showcase:
The build follows Captain Lance's Tri Stacker Inquisitor using Hexblast of Contradiction. https://youtu.be/CInUxtAjFRw?si=lUG1YP4IjEwJBp25
It's not top of the dps leader board for the skill gem, even in the first 3 weeks of the league poeninja just refused to calculate my lightning damage so idk if its even accurate. There are definitly other mirror tiered upgrades that could be made to this build. All attributes and such on the Helical ring (imo high dex is good enough, 150% adorned (or X% breakpoint for 7% max life), a better amulet, Double corrupting Glimpse of Chaos into Curtain's Call for 80% mana reservation and +2 level of socketed skill gems, Progenesis instead of Oriath's End (if so, you can swap a cluster jewel into all res), replacing the remaining cluster jewels with 1 passive Voices. Any other mirror tier ideas you'll have to compare to builds on poeninja. IMO it's not worth a mirror's worth of investment since it runs scared on Valdo maps (assuming you can find one profitable that doesn't have insta rippy mods. For B2B t17, after experimenting alot with 2 regex filters, it's comfortable.
Rules:
  • You can ONLY opt in for either a chance at winning the Divs or the chance at getting the gear of my build, NOT both.
  • To opt in for the Drawing, you MUST reply to this post independently, I will not comb through replies to other people's comments.
  • If you want to win the Divs, comment below: "While playing POE I also..."
Listen to music? What kind of songs. Podcasts? What's the most intriguing part about it so far. Are you learning something on Youtube? Who's your favorite Twitch streamer? Feel free to reply to each other.
  • First Place Div winner gets 75 Divines
  • Second Place Div winner gets 25 Divines +2500 Chaos
  • If you want to win the build, comment below: "My current goal for this league is to..."
No, the "quality" of your comment won't impact your chances to win the build, but it'll spark discussion. I'm very hopeful to give my build to someone that wants to learn to do B2B t17s, Uber bosses, or any other strat that is mostly unforgiving to untanky/non mirror tier clearing MF
Deadline to Participate is Thursday at 9PM GMT-5
Edit: Forgot yesterday, will draw soon
Method of drawing winners:
I haven't done any research into a reddit raffle script, but it shouldn't be that time consuming to essentially run a random number generator 3 times. At 9pm I'll just manually comb through the thread, putting user names into a spreadsheet based on how they replied with either of the above prompts. The First Roll wins the First place prize for Divs, the Second Roll wins the 2nd place prize for divs, and the Final Roll wins my gear. I'll edit this post to announce both the winners and proof of the validity of the raffle.
A summary of my League experience, why I want to give away my build:
I'm not gonna give a sob story about how this league sucked, my expectations for this league were pretty much on par and I enjoyed my time (except ofc for how the economy broke so quickly. Of course I was hopeful to get as far as I could week 1 and felt a bit crushed at how things turned out, but it didn't deterr me from re-evaluating my future goals of the league. I wanted to see how invitation farming would be like (basically the same except for destructive play + Harbinger sextant. Better even since there's incentive to full clear for Destructive play when the whole map has shrines with Domination of Terrors, if map sustaining both guardian maps and t17 maps is possible (it is with the domination scarab), and if uber farming is profitable.
I was at that later part of that experience, except I relied heavily on running B2B t17s; it's just insane profit, even with a super cheap strat of farming scarabs with buffed rares. Even after "rare monsters are shaper-touched" was nerfed, the 7c scarab investment is so carefree (Horned Nemesis, Horned Tradition, 2x Scarab of Adversaries). Ofc going for divination cards would've been more meta and even bigger profits for the investment I could've definitely anted up for, but I was pretty content with how B2B almost guarantees 2 uber fragments. So farming on Ziggurat I'm free to just sell the Uber Maven fragments to sustain buying and rolling maps (occasionally bulk selling scarabs).
So about 2 weeks ago my goal for the league was to farm Uber Eater in my off time from running Ziggurat. A few days ago I finished bulk selling my scarabs, of which 2 were Divine Curation and 1 Horned Preservation and I sat at 270 divs. I ran it down to my current 115 divs on buying Uber Eaters and got no Nimis. If i did, I would've grinded for an immortal armor stacker Scion, per BigDaddy on YT, but at this point I'll leave that for next league. Affliction was my first league back since Ultimatum and it's been a blast relearning everything, so that's mainly why I want to do this give away, so someone can accomplish and really get a hand on experience of doing The Feared, Uber Maven, B2B T17s. I'd guess at least t17s will be revamped next league, but learning at least where POE is at will help someone come back next time.)))

2024.05.08 01:58 Ralts_Bloodthorne Nova Wars - Chapter 56

[First Contact] [Dark Ages] [First] [Prev] [Next] [wiki]
What were supposed to do? Be sent back to Telkan where the next attempt on our lives would surely succeed?
No.
We went with the Mad Lemur of Terra, part of Decken's Irregulars.
And we fought. Fought to the bitter end. Fought in the ashes. Fought in the emerging green of a new spring. Fought in the jungle of ignorance and barbarism.
We raised our voices and shouted "WE WILL NOT SUBMIT!"
And emerged both more and less than we had been on that fateful day we went to see the Cathedral. -Meditations on the Barrier War, Lancer First Class Imna, Free Telkan Press, 25 Post-Terran Emergence
Captain N'Skrek doublechecked his tunic before the lift doors opened onto the 'show bridge', which was at the 'rear' and 'top' of the massive siege engine ship.
While the primary bridge, the battlebridge, even the aux-con, were all in the middle of the ship and heavily armored, for some reason he felt as if it was only right for him to stand on the "show bridge" for what he was about to command to be done.
As he stepped out the crew on the show bridge did not turn away from their jobs. Contrary to popular media, nobody yelled out 'Captain on the Bridge" or "Attention on deck!" or anything close to that.
N'Skrek knew the drill. They had all done a mic-check to ensure they could hear each other over the show-bridge com-channel, then over suit links, then over general coms. Then their consoles had been checked for function and connection.
Now, they were all busy.
True, there was a half-dozen consoles open with greenies working on them, green mantids that had been found frozen in cryo-bays in a section of the ship that nobody had found for the thousands of years the ship had been in operation.
New corridors, passages, storage spaces, berthing areas, manufacturing facilities, were being found and mapped every day.
N'Skrek cleared his head as he pulled a self-light from where his antenna merged with his skull, putting it between his mandibles and puffing on it to get the self-light to work.
LT (Junior Grade) Scarlet Strontium Sunset-6371992, the shipboard master digital systems control digital sentience, appeared in the holotank off to the side as N'Skrek headed to the main holotank.
"Nav-Int has suggested placing message torpedoes, multi-stage ones, to go to the missing systems, then backtrack back into Confederate Space, with recordings of everything that happened here," Sunset stated.
N'Skrek nodded.
"Additionally, at Nav-Int's suggestion, the computer systems in the fruit flies, torpedoes, missile pods, all show that they were launched from Weber-VII class missile wagons as part of a Task Force that was over here," Sunset said. She tapped a box in the holotank eight light-hours up and to the 'left' of the rings. "Just in case the enemy manages to somehow salvage viable non-volatile computer memory and storage."
"Excellent idea," N'Skrek said. He sat down and folded his bladearms in front of him, resting his chin on the armored and spiked 'wrist' joint. "What are Nav-Int's projection of how the artificial singularity will perform?"
"Anything out to a light week will be pulled back in. Everything out to a light month will be slowed by a large factor. Nav-Int estimates that if the artificial singularity holds up for at least six months anything within two light weeks should be pulled back and into it," Sunset said. "It should slow the other constructs down far enough that starvation effects should reduce their size considerably."
N'Skrek nodded, still staring at the holotank.
"Additionally, it will pull in and destroy any clusters that warp out from the previous waypoints in the re-energizing ladder," Sunset said.
"Any idea what wavelengths they're using to recharge the clusters?" N'Skrek asked.
Sunset nodded. "Yes. They're emulating standard cosmic ray output of a G2V stellar classification mass."
"My compliments to Nav-Int," N'Skrek said. He looked it over. "Signal DEFCON to stage one. Wake up the fruit flies," he said. "We will execute the fire plan fifteen minutes after we get green on at least 80% of the elements."
Sunset nodded, able to feel the tension ratchet up on the show-bridge.
99999
He was clad in a pressurized flight suit that held his body together. His visor was sealed and closed, liquid atmosphere moving through the tube implanted in his chest, so he technically didn't 'breathe'. He knew that his body was unfinished, mostly existing as a life support system for his brain, but he also knew that it didn't matter.
Clone War Lyfe, baby.
Rickytofen-773E6A, "Ricky" to his friends, closed his eyes as he went over his most recent memories.
Being launched as something called "Sucker Punch", he could remember heading toward the massive interdimensional wormhole that had been disgorging strange, almost 'grown' ships into the system.
I wonder if I made a difference in that war so long ago? he thought to himself. If I tagged at least two enemy ships, I made a difference. I wonder if I survived through the wormhole? I wonder if what I did mattered at all?
He shrugged, the atrophied muscles off of his neck not really connected to any support structure.
It didn't matter. That was the last mission, the last war.
This mission.
This war.
That was what mattered to a Clone War Trooper.
His ship was a high tech marvel. Coated with stealth materials, a millipede drive that used tiny rippling 'flows' of grav-energy spikes to travel silently and stealthily to the target. The ship was basically a cockpit, sensor package, drive, and energy plant wrapped around an artificial singularity C++ mass driver, with four 'wings' of missile pod launchers that launched twelve pods each. Those pods contained twenty-four missiles wrapped in a circle around a C++ cannon.
He knew that when he fired, the singularity cannon would compress all the mass down and add it to the payload. The artificial singularity would 'spin up' while the 'round' flickered in and out of hyperspace. He would be crushed down, his mass added to the singularity, his mass the leading tip of the 'lance' that would strike the target.
Around him were hundreds of his fellow 'fruit flies', all of them like Ricky.
All of them Clone War Troopers.
Not the vaguely feline faced 'cat-girls' or 'anime girls' of the Dead Hand Systems.
Actual Clone War Lyfe.
His ship was connected to the nearest four via a thin cable of superconductor, to keep all emissions at the bare minimum, so they could all talk to each other.
It was largely silent on the Clone Channel.
Like Ricky, the others were processing their last memories.
There was a beep and he checked it. Request for pre-mission initiation status check.
He thumbed the button for green.
Ricky knew there was a weird thing with the SUDS and Clone War Lyfe.
For a split second, maybe even as long as a tenth of a second, the SUDS would record the experience of his existence after death. When he was reloaded or when his brain was spun up in the Born Whole system, he would be able to remember that split second.
What it was to be pure mathematical packets rather than matter as most people knew it. The red-shift and streaking of the stars. The split second, too small to really understand, filled with sensations that couldn't be explained.
He felt his SUDS spin up and start recording live.
The DEFCON strip, using old incandescent bulbs and colored plastic, went from DEFCON TWO to DEFCON ONE.
He flipped up the cover on the firing stud and loaded the targeting data.
Ricky closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them.
"ENGAGE" lit up.
He pressed the button, felt the missile packs unload the missile pods.
Then the strange sucking, pulling, stretching feeling as he was converted into the C++ singularity tipped shell.
99999
The superluminal communications buoy went live, activating the superluminal sensor network.
The majority of the massive siege engine ship shut down, going to emergency zero-point reactors and metal over silicon integrated circuits with firmware level programming. Only the show-bridge and the deeply buried secondary aux-con stayed powered. Quantum computers shut down, molecular circuitry went dead and were 'pumped' to be in a neutral state.
Captain N'Skrek watched the results in the main holotank of the show bridge, slowly breathing through his leg spiracles.
Tens of thousands of Fruit Flies launched within 0.75 seconds of the order.
There were between twelve and twenty 'rings' per 'chute' that the Mar-gite clusters were moving through. Eight chutes. Just over nine thousand Mar-gite clusters waiting to 'refuel' by going through the rings over the course of an hour.
Each 'ring' took fifteen to twenty hits by the C++ cannons. Each 'strip' that connected the rings together to form the 'chute' took five to seven, usually two on the terminal attachment end and one in the middle.
Additional missiles and singularity tipped C++ rounds streaked out to strike at the Mar-gite constructs. Even if the singularity held for an entire five seconds, the Tera and Peta size constructs could, theoretically, survive even two to four hits.
Unlike other vessels and structures, a damaged Mar-gite Construct, even if ripped into multiple pieces, would just join back together into a smaller construct.
For a second, it looked like nothing had happened, even as flashes appeared on the structure of the rings and the 'straps' that held the vast megastructure together.
Then plain physics did its work on the megastructures. Rotation, sheer forces, and structural stresses started ripping the entire structure apart.
"Scanning and Science are getting good readings back from the radiation cascades from the hits," Sunset said.
N'Skrek just nodded, staring with his chin on his bladearm wrists. He tilted his head slightly so his captain's hat, festooned with gold braid, tipped down slightly, covering his large compound eyes slightly.
He could feel the show-bridge crew's confidence increase at his own blasé attitude.
A massive section of one of the rings tore free and scythed through the Peta-Cluster that was charging as well as the four Mega-Clusters and four Tera-Clusters orbiting around it, all them slowly rotating. Chunks, that Captain N'Skrek knew were billions, trillions of Mar-gite, flew off, shedding smaller pieces.
The singularity tipped C++ rounds and the singularity missiles hit the constructs less than a second after the ring was hit. Some, the smaller Clusters or Kilo-Clusters, vanished, pulled into itself. The larger ones tore into two, three, four pieces.
"Wait for it," N'Skrek said softly.
"CONTACT! NEW CONTACTS! ONE, THREE, FIVE, SEVEN! CONFIRMED SEVEN!" someone called out.
The new contacts flashed in the holotank, which was driven by micro-vac tubes rather than integrated chipsets.
"Here it comes," N'Skrek said.
He heard the whistle over the copper wire shipboard communication system to alert all hands to prepare for what N'Skrek knew was coming next. Sunset curled up in the fetal position, closing her eyes, and seemed to get sucked away into the vanishing point of an invisible horizon.
SAFE appeared in red letters in the holotank.
The bridge closed their visors on their armored vac-suits and went to passive only, atmosphere maintained by pressure systems rather than electronics.
There was a series of white flashes that permeated the show-bridge. Shadows vanished as everything disappeared in the equivalent of a flashbang the consumed the entire bridge. A few consoles imploded, sparks and arcs of electricity crackled around various metallic surfaces. The speakers gave a howl of static.
Then it was over.
N'Skrek blinked away the purple spots in his vision.
"Seven flashes, each separated by one tenth of a second," one of the sensor crew called out.
"Confirmation of high bursts of artificially generated phasic energy in pulse," another called out.
N'Skrek wished he could smile as he knew what was happening now.
'Submarines' had been positioned around the area, sunk deep into the subspace foam, their torpedo tubes hot and loaded. The 'flash' would knock out their 'periscope' and they'd be surfacing already, their instruments running hot.
For long moments the only thing N'Skrek could hear was the hissing in his suit. Then his HUD rebooted, crashed, rebooted again. The fans came on and N'Skrek took a deep breath. His visor cleared and he could see around the show-bridge.
The lights flashed three times.
Power came back to the bridge.
"Targets breaking up. Looks like the subs at Box-Tango were only six seconds torpedo time from the contacts," someone said.
N'Skrek just nodded.
"Wait for it," he said softly.
"SubTac-Tango diving," N'Skrek heard.
He just nodded.
Time went by slowly. The huge megaconstructs were breaking apart, the Mar-gite clusters were still shredding.
"Nav-Int has a probable vector for Mar-gite and Unknown Contact approach," someone else called out.
N'Skrek just nodded.
Time ticked by.
"CONTACT! Near Box-Echo!" was called out. "SubTac-Echo surfacing!"
"Contact is in the gigatons, unknown ship, no attendants," tactical operations relayed.
N'Skrek nodded. "Shut us down again."
Everything went dim, the incandescent bulbs taking a moment to warm up to light the bridge.
"You are about to see why one trick ponies lose to the most adaptable," N'Skrek said softly.
"Echo firing," was said softly but with firm authority. "Echo is diving."
There was another flash. This one made sparks jump off of almost every surface. N'Skrek saw his faceshield go completely white for a split second before it blanked out again. He could see hundreds of dead pixels scattered across the transparent display film.
Fans kicked back on, the lights flashed three times.
The bridge went live again.
"Target is drifting. Massive damage," someone called out.
N'Skrek unfolded his bladearms slightly, tapping the surface of the console in front of him with the needle points.
"Send the nearest boarding parties," he said softly. "Lets find out who these guys are."
99999
Private First Class Jaskel felt the dropship he had been napping inside of go live. He opened one eye, looking around the bay at the rest of the company.
Everyone was in their Helreginn Mark VI Type IX Anti-Mar-gite Full Contact Powered Combat Personal Protective Equipment Systems, AKA Hell Suits, everyone tricked out for boarding action.
Wonder what we're heading for, he thought to himself.
He closed his eyes and went back to sleep.
We'll get there when we get there.

2024.05.07 04:55 SirMattomaton7 TWO VERY IMPORTANT POINTS THE DEVELOPERS NEED TO UNDERSTAND

Now the psychotic Sony s**tshow is winding down. There are 2 points that I feel are important for everyone (especially the developers) need to understand. I'm not expecting this to actually go anywhere. These are just things I really need to get off my chest...
1) Nerfing is "anti-fun" at best, downright insulting at worst.
Unless it is for something that is ridiculously broken and unbalanced (which I will get into soon), this is what nerfs feel like to the players. You may not agree with it but, this is how it's usually received. Too much of this will kill any game, just look at Destiny 2!
Think of it like doing a home improvement project with someone who is also your boss at work. They begin to critique and patronize the new tools and techniques you are bringing to use. They then yank the new tools out of your hands. Replacing them with ones where the grips are essentially rotten off and the metal so rusted they will snap in half if you put too much pressure on them... That is how nerfing feels like to us.
Especially when your core philosophy of the play-style in Helldivers 2 always being a "meat-grinder" is terribly and fundamentally flawed.
When players first play the game it should be like that. But that's when experience, leveling, and unlocking upgrades taps into that all important power-fantasy. It should never be too easy of course. But punishing what is actually fun is equally terrible for this game's longevity. Every unnecessary nerf is a crack in the trust we players have in the judgment of the developers. Too many cracks will shatter that trust.
2) Nothing in this game is "OVERPOWERED!"
This is something the community needs to understand as well. Absolutely nothing is actually overpowered in HD2 and here's why. For something to be overpowered, it is either:
That's what overpowered actually means. It's not trying to compare a 2-story house to a 3-story house or one viable option over another viable option. It's like a skyscraper in the middle of a suburb... Infamous examples of actual overpowered weapons is like the Gjallarhorn from Destiny 1, the MP-40 in the opening weeks of CoD WaW online, and that grenade glitch in this game not long ago.
The problem is this game only 3 actual tiers for weapons and stratagems in this game. What is viable, what is sort of viable, and what is completely useless garbage. Most of the options in this game are barely usable in higher tiers. The truth is the Pareto Principle (the 80/20 Rule) will always be a thing. People will always gravitate to what works best or what is most fun to use. The real challenge you developers have is expanding the options for those that want or need more variety.

2024.05.06 16:15 GendoIkari_82 Help with replacement lamp

I need a new lamp for my Sony VPL VW285ES. I know that it needs a LMP-H220. But I'm finding a huge range of brands and prices that are all listed as LMP-H220; from $80 to $500. I'm assuming that buying the one of the cheapest ones is a bad idea; likely really crappy manufacturing from an unreliable brand or something. But how can I know what to actually get? I don't just want to get the most expensive option either. Sony themselves don't sell replacement lamps, or I'd buy one from them directly.
*Edit* Found this helpful post, but even then it's not clear from listings what is a cheap knockoff and what's a good after-market.. or even what's really an OEM. I see multiple listings that all say "OEM" from various manufacturers and various prices.

2024.05.05 15:39 SkeleterRD EULA Helldivers 2 from 5.5.2024 15:19 from the Steam Store Page for review purpose

No PSN Account mentioned. This is the contract for using the software. Every lawyer will destroy this on court for the PSN Account. MISCELLANEOUS This Agreement shall be construed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, applying to contracts fully executed and performed within the State of California, United States. If the binding arbitration terms of Section 9 do not apply or are not enforceable on any Dispute, both parties submit to personal jurisdiction in California, United States, and further agree that such Dispute shall be brought in a court within San Mateo County, California, United States. If any provision of this Agreement shall be held invalid or unenforceable, in whole or in part, such provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable, and the validity and enforceability of all other provisions of this Agreement shall not be affected thereby. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties related to the subject matter hereof and supersedes all prior agreements, representations, warranties or understandings between you and SIE (whether negligently or innocently made), and all prior or contemporaneous negotiations and commitments of the parties, all of which are merged herein. You are bound by this Agreement’s most current version. SIE may modify this Agreement’s terms at any time. Please check this URL from time to time for changes to this Agreement. Your continued access to or use of the Software will signify your acceptance of the latest version of this Agreement. Sections 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 survive the termination of this Agreement. 9. BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION FOR CERTAIN RESIDENTS The following terms in this Section 9, to the fullest extent permitted under law, only apply to you if you are a resident of the United States or a country in North, Central or South America. The term "Dispute" means any dispute, claim, or controversy between SIE or any of its current or former affiliates, including parents and subsidiaries, and any predecessor or successor entity to any of the foregoing, including Sony Interactive Entertainment America LLC, or any of is officers, directors, employees, or agents (collectively, "Sony Entity") and you regarding the Software, or the advertising, marketing, licensing or use of the Software, whether based in contract, statute, regulation, ordinance, tort (including fraud, misrepresentation, fraudulent inducement, or negligence), or any other legal or equitable theory, and includes the validity, enforceability or scope of this Section 9 (with the exception of the enforceability of the Class Action Waiver clause below). "Dispute" has the broadest possible meaning that will be enforced. If you have a Dispute (other than one described as excluded from arbitration below) with any Sony Entity that cannot be resolved through negotiation as required below, you and the Sony Entity must seek resolution of the Dispute only through arbitration of that Dispute according to this Section 9’s terms, and not litigate that Dispute in court. Arbitration means that the Dispute will be resolved by a neutral arbitrator instead of in a court by a judge or jury. YOU AND SONY ENTITY AGREE THAT ANY CLAIM FILED BY YOU OR BY SONY ENTITY IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE ARBITRATION TERMS CONTAINED IN THIS SECTION 9. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE BOUND BY THE BINDING ARBITRATION AND CLASS ACTION WAIVER IN THIS SECTION 9, YOU MUST NOTIFY SIE IN WRITING WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE DATE THAT YOU FIRST PURCHASE OR DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE (WHICHEVER IS EARLIER). YOUR WRITTEN NOTIFICATION MUST BE MAILED TO SONY INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT LLC, 2207 BRIDGEPOINTE PARKWAY, SAN MATEO, CA 94404, UNITED STATES, ATTN: LEGAL DEPARTMENT - WAIVER, AND MUST INCLUDE: (1) YOUR NAME, (2) YOUR ADDRESS, (3) YOUR PLAYSTATION NETWORK SIGN-IN ID IF YOU HAVE ONE, AND (4) A CLEAR STATEMENT THAT YOU DO NOT WISH TO RESOLVE DISPUTES WITH SONY ENTITY THROUGH ARBITRATION. IF YOU HAVE A DISPUTE WITH SONY ENTITY, YOU MUST SEND WRITTEN NOTICE TO SONY INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT LLC, 2207 BRIDGEPOINTE PARKWAY, SAN MATEO, CA 94404, ATTN: LEGAL DEPARTMENT – DISPUTE RESOLUTION, TO GIVE SONY ENTITY AN OPPORTUNITY TO RESOLVE THE DISPUTE INFORMALLY THROUGH NEGOTIATION. You agree to negotiate resolution of the Dispute in good faith for no fewer than 60 days after you provide notice of the Dispute. If Sony Entity does not resolve your Dispute within 60 days from its receipt of notice of the Dispute, you or Sony Entity may pursue your claim in arbitration pursuant to the terms in this Section 9. ANY DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEEDINGS, WHETHER IN ARBITRATION OR COURT, WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLY ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT IN A CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION OR AS A NAMED OR UNNAMED MEMBER IN A CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, REPRESENTATIVE OR PRIVATE ATTORNEY GENERAL ACTION, UNLESS BOTH YOU AND SONY ENTITY SPECIFICALLY AGREE TO DO SO IN WRITING FOLLOWING INITIATION OF THE ARBITRATION. If you or Sony Entity elect to resolve your Dispute through arbitration, the party initiating the arbitration proceeding may initiate it with the American Arbitration Association ("AAA"), www.adr.org, or JAMS, www.jamsadr.com. This Section 9’s terms govern if they conflict with the rules of the arbitration organization that the parties select. The Federal Arbitration Act ("FAA") governs the arbitrability of all disputes involving interstate commerce. However, applicable federal or state law may also apply to the substance of a Dispute. For claims of less than $75,000, the AAA's Supplementary Procedures for Consumer-Related Disputes apply including the schedule of arbitration fees set forth in section C-8 of the foregoing; for claims over $75,000, the AAA's Commercial Arbitration Rules and relevant fee schedules for non-class action proceedings apply. The AAA rules are available at www.adr.org or by calling 1-800-778-7879. The arbitrator will make any award in writing but need not provide a statement of reasons unless requested by a party. The arbitrator’s award will be binding and final, except for any right of appeal provided by the FAA, and may be entered in any court having jurisdiction over the parties for purposes of enforcement. You or Sony Entity may initiate arbitration in either San Mateo County, California, United States or the county in which you reside if you reside in the United States. If you select the county of your residence, Sony Entity may transfer the arbitration to San Mateo County, California, United States if it agrees to pay any additional fees or costs you incur as a result of the change in location as determined by the arbitrator. If any clause within this Section 9 (other than the Class Action Waiver clause above) is illegal or unenforceable, that clause will be severed from this Section 9, and the remainder of this Section 9 will be given full effect. If the Class Action Waiver clause is found to be illegal or unenforceable, this entire Section 9 will be unenforceable, and the Dispute will be decided by a court. 10. QUESTIONS, COMPLAINTS OR CLAIMS You may submit any claims with respect to the Software to: Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, 2207 Bridgepointe Parkway, San Mateo, CA 94404, ATTN: Legal Department. You may submit any questions with respect to the Software to SIE Customer Support. 11. ADDITIONAL TERMS FOR MOBILE GAMES The following additional terms and conditions apply with respect to Software available for use on an Apple iOS mobile device ("iOS Software"). You acknowledge that these terms of use are between you and SIE only, and not with Apple, Inc. ("Apple"). SIE, and not Apple, is solely responsible for the iOS Software and the services and content available thereon. You agree that your use of the iOS Software shall be subject to the terms of this Agreement and the Usage Rules set forth in Apple's then-current App Store Terms of Service. The parties agree that Apple shall have no obligation to provide maintenance and support services with respect to the iOS Software. If the iOS Software fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the iOS Software. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the iOS Software, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty will be SIE’s sole responsibility. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the iOS Software. You agree that SIE, and not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the iOS Software or your possession and use of the iOS Software, including, but not limited to: (i) product liability claims; (ii) any claim that the iOS Software fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation. You agree that SIE, and not Apple, shall be responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement and discharge of any third party intellectual property infringement claim related to the iOS Software or your possession and use of the iOS Software. You agree to comply with all applicable third party terms of agreement when using the iOS Software (e.g., you must not be in violation of your wireless data service terms of agreement when using the iOS Software). The parties agree that Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third party beneficiaries to this Agreement. Upon your acceptance of this Agreement, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce this Agreement against you as a third party beneficiary thereof.

2024.05.05 06:17 but_why_doh The film industry: A deeper look

Hello all. This is my first full in-depth DD on an industry/sector, and it's on an industry many of us know: film. I'll cover the 5 main film and movie studio stocks, with NFLX, DIS, CMCSA, WBD, and PARA. I will not be covering large tech companies that tack on streaming(AAPL, AMZN) or much smaller studios in this. I will also not be including Sony, as it's too diversified away from film and, currently, has a very uncertain future. If people want a deep dive into it, then I will eventually do one.
NFLX: Netflix is the obvious favorite to win the streaming wars. They've got a clear lead over the competitors and have a mind share that few in the industry share. Their earnings are also quite deceiving. You see, in the movie business, there is very high amortization costs on the films created, and this makes net income look much worse than it actually is. Free cash flow for Netflix is very high, at about 7 billion dollars. The company has made a ton of original content, such as Stranger Things, Wednesday, Bridgerton, The Queens Gambit, Squid Game, and plenty of others. This strong IP is the lifeblood of the entertainment industry. One good show can lead to spin-offs, merch, games, licensing, and even theme park rides. So, what are the downsides? Well, value. Netflix is currently probably the most overvalued production stock out there, with endless growth priced heavily in. Based on a DCF valuation, I'd project their current fair value to be somewhere from 350-450 dollars, and that's with extremely high amortization continuing. The company also faces some threats from other streamers, but these threats aren't really gonna hurt Netflix. It is at a point now where it will stay. It also faces threats from potential strikes and royalty rights, as we saw with the recent strikes. I'm only gonna mention this for Netflix, because they are acutely vulnerable to backlash. The other studios have other distribution platforms, such as linear networks, licensing, and the box office. Netflix has none of these, meaning the normal ways in which writers and royalty holders would get royalties doesn't apply to Netflix. If royalties become a major issue in streaming, this will likely hurt Netflix's margin the most, as they have no other means of distribution currently. What are some future expansion plans for Netflix? Well, they've recently been making a big push into gaming, and this is likely where they'll be for a few years. Gaming is a great market currently, as it's rapidly growing and very popular amongst youth, the most attractive demographic for media companies. Netflix also has the potential to move into an unexpected market: theme parks. Theme parks have shown themselves to be extremely resilient and consistent, with both Disney and Universal raking in a ton from their domestic and international parks. Netflix hasn't licensed out any of its content to either of the major theme park players(outside of some Halloween horror nights) and Gen Z and Millennials have overwhelmingly show that they would rather spend their money on experiences and on travel than on stuff. Theme park experiences can provide this, and with Netflix holding as much data as they do and how much original IP they have, a theme park could provide a ton of opportunity. Overall, Netflix is a super strong company with a strong future. The biggest problem with Netflix is obvious: They're just too attractive. The fact that they have strong management and a bright future is very much priced in, and the business has gotten overvalued. I'd wait for a big dip here to buy in, but if that dip comes, I'll be first in line.
DIS: Disney is a stock that has gone through the ringer recently. In 2019, they were at an all time high. They had just finished the highest grossing franchise in history, with the infinity saga coming to an end. They also had a box office hit in Rise of Skywalker(although any Star wars fan hated it), had finished their acquisition of Fox, the Disney parks were dominant, adding new attractions, and their long awaited Disney+ had finally launched. So, what went wrong? Well, first, covid. You can't ignore the impact of covid on the business. It cost them billions of dollars, and caused major delays in attractions and films. Second, Chapek. Chapek was bad for Disney, but so much worse for the Disney parks. Anyone who went during Chapek's reign can tell that costs were extreme, availability was low, and the overall experience just wasn't the same. This was primarily because of issue number three: Disney+. To this day, Disney+ has never been profitable, and a ton of their shows have been lambasted by the general populous. Disney+ forced leadership at Disney to seek out money elsewhere, which led them to the very profitable parks division. This gouging has made many people not want to go to Disney parks, and the constant talk of a recession has not made people more eager to spend. The final issue is to do with the films themselves. Disney hasn't really had a lot of "hit" movies, especially in the original IP department. The constant reliance on Marvel to drive the box office has hurt a ton, and recently they've only really had movies like GOTG3 and Avatar really show up as big hitters in the box office. The movies themselves have been uninspired, garbage sequels. Some people will say this is a "woke" issue, but that's not really true. Plenty of "woke" movies have done super well, and the issue isn't that the movies were "woke", it's that they objectively sucked. They also have the minor issue of their CEO needing a successor, however I do not believe this is a major issue, simply because they have a lot of really qualified people currently. They shouldn't pick who Iger wants, as that turned out horribly for them last time. So, with all the downsides in front of us, what are some of the good parts of the business. Well, the IP of the business remains better and stronger than any other company. The business has also survived through significantly worse stretches than it's currently in. Before Eisner, and right as Eisner was leaving are obvious examples, but the brand survived and came out much better. Disney+ will also very likely be profitable this year, and it will continue to show strength going forward. Disney has also committed 60 billion to their parks and experiences, and this should help to make the company considerably more, as oftentimes the parks run into issues of supply and not demand. This increase in spending should drive experiences forward to be the real revenue and EBIT driver of Disney. They also have the sports business, which has shown a lot of potential going forward. Currently, it is under threat of cord cutting, but it really seems like Disney is moving the right way with this side of the business. We've also seen a considerable slowdown in Disney crap in the box office, as the constant churn of terrible movies has ended, and going forward, we might actually see some solid productions. Overall, the business seems to be turning itself around, and the low price is not reflecting of the potential margins the business can have. The parks have an operating margin around 30%, and this will increase over time, as it historically has. Streaming also has the potential to create high margin opportunities. This is primarily pulling from a creator like Netflix and their current guidance to have an operating margin of 25%. Disney can achieve similar margins over the next few years, as it already has a ton of content, and much of the platform is built out. There is also the threat of cable cutting, however, Disney has gotten to a point where they don't need cable or the linear networks nearly as much as a few years ago, and it seems like cord cutting will stabilize soon. Disney also owns Hulu TV, which many consider a solid replacement for cable, and it could be a growth driver from people looking to get rid of cable, but not necessarily the amount of media cable provides. Based on all this information, I put Disney into a DCF, and got an approximate valuation ranging from 150-200 dollars. This is based on margin growth, alongside a consistent growth rate of around 7-8% over the years. This shows that maybe Disney is still being valued as if their streaming and film business won't provide the cash flows that they potentially can, especially with higher margins. Overall, this is a strong business that has survived really poor leadership, and will likely survive through almost anything.
CMCSA: Comcast. Everyone's favorite company. Don't you just love calling your ISP when your internet is down for 8 hours for literally no reason? It's just the best. In all seriousness, Comcast has a really strong ISP business, which is where I'll start. It accounts for 60% of EBITDA, and it very profitable. Also, contrary to popular belief, Comcast has diversified to the point they no longer have any EBITDA coming in from cable video or cable advertising. It is all internet and business connectivity. Comcast has also recently launched Xfinity Mobile, which is showing strength in competing with large cell providers, and could potentially be a major growth driver for the business. Now, with their ISP business, they have the obvious threat from companies like Verizon and T-Mobile recently making plays for the home ISP market. This could provide a big threat to Comcast, but they're investing a ton into new technology, and it's unlikely that they'll lose out a ton of market share to these new players, but it's something that will play out over the long term that we'll have to see play out. This is the backbone of the company. It provides consistent growth and cash flows, and it's unlikely to be strongly disrupted, simply because telecoms is really damn expensive, and the cost, for most large players that can afford it, isn't worth it. So, what are the real downsides? Well, as I mentioned, Telecoms is expensive, which has led to Comcast racking up a small debt of... 100 billion dollars. Now, this debt is very manageable for Comcast, and they can easily pay it off...if everything goes right. Now, if the telecoms business goes tits up, maybe from some new technology, and Comcast is unable to fight back, then that debt will prove to be an albatross around their neck. Now, enough with the boring telecoms. Let's talk about the fun stuff: NBCUniversal. This business has actually been one of the most impressive recently. First, Universal, for the first time since 2015, has taken the spot as the #1 studio, with movies like FNAF, Oppenheimer, Super Mario, and Fast X all dominating the box office. This movie strength has shown that Universal has the real potential to be the dominant studio, as Disney has been slipping for some time, and it's not like Warner Bros or Sony are releasing anything that can overtake Universal. Universal also has their parks division, which has been growing extremely fast. They're planning on opening a brand new park in Florida in Epic Universe, and these recent developments make me think that Universal is really turning a new leaf and becoming a real leader across the board. There is, however, one big, flashy downside to this business: Peacock. Peacock is not one of the "winners" in streaming; it's not even close. Currently, there are 3 main winners of streaming: Netflix, Disney/Hulu, and Max. Peacock doesn't have the same pricing power as these other players. This really comes down to the lack of content on the platform. Despite Universal owning a ton of original movies, and NBC creating a lot of great shows, they don't put their content on Peacock, instead choosing to bid it off to other players. NBC also hasn't had a big original to bring people in. Disney had the Mandalorian, the multiple Marvel shows, and plenty of great Hulu shows like the Bear and only murders in the building. Max has HBO, which pumps out great shows like TLOU and Succession. Netflix has, well, so many great originals and licensed shows that attract people to the service. The only show like this on Peacock is Yellowstone, and plenty of other great shows like Brooklyn 99 and Suits have been licensed away for money, which directly undercuts Peacock. Sure, the service is growing fast, faster than any other streamer, but the fact that they have such low prices compared to others shows that they can't really charge for the service the same way Disney, WBD, or Netflix can. So, how much is this business really worth? Well, a DCF which considers consistent margins and a slow, 3% long term growth rate gives business a valuation of 50-70 dollars. This is considerably higher than current values, and shows a solid potential to under predict management, as management at universal has shown a ton of competence, and the business still holds a diverse, strong future.
WBD: Ah yes, Zaslav's death pit. Many investors on this sub have been sucked into the tar pit that is WBD. It has really strong cash flows, as its FCF is around 6 billion last year. The main reason they aren't currently profitable is because of their massive amortization cost. Remember with Netflix how I mentioned that studios have very high amortization costs? Well, it would appear Zaslav is going on a write-off spree, locking in as many tax benefits as possible. This play is obviously to get more FCF to pay off the massive debt. The business has 3 sectors: Film, linear, and DTC. Film is currently in an odd position. Sure, Warner Bros has had massive hits with Barbie, Wonka, Dune, and Godzilla, but the business is facing strong margin issues, and revenue increases are offset by major structural issue still within the company that will need sorting. WBD has always played in second place, right behind Disney for the box office, but that position is slipping, as they're now in third place, and this box office slowdown could really hurt them. Still I wouldn't worry nearly as much about this section of the business. The creatives at Warner Bros have continually shown themselves capable of telling great stories, and the marketing team here absolutely does their job. Overall, this is probably their second strongest business, right behind HBO. HBO produces some of the best, most iconic shows out there, and it has continued to do this despite changing consumer tastes. This all goes into the DTC pipeline, which leads us to Max. Max is, overall, a pretty strong business. Is it profitable? No, but it won't stay that way long term. I can almost guarantee that, with how strong the shows are on this platform, that it will be one of the few survivors of the streaming wars, albeit in 3rd place of the major media companies, behind Disney and Netflix. So, if movies are a pretty sure bet for WBD, and streaming is likely to provide considerable cash flows in the future, why is this company not a no brainer? Well, it comes down to 51% of their revenue: linear television. I don't need to be the first one to tell you cable is in a decline, and it's not coming back. Sure, the other players are exposed, but Disney and Comcast get around 10-20% of their revenue from cable, and, much more concerning for WBD, around 80-90% of their EBITDA comes from linear television, and this is all under serious risk of being wiped out. The other media players can survive and continue to make money without Linear networks, while WBD cannot. It needs to rely on a dying form of consumption, and it really needs that money to keep coming in, because it has the minor issue of 40+ billion in debt, and that debt is maturing over a very, VERY long time period. So, WBD really needs to shift to streaming, which has proved really hard for the business. Despite already having a ton of subscribers, and charging a TON for Max, they still only make up a fraction of their total revenue through DTC, and DTC somehow includes HBO now, which means it's even lower. So, this means that WBD is reliant on declining revenue, increasingly difficult movies, and a currently flat growth streaming platform to pay off their huge debt. That, right there, is a really big disaster in the waiting. WBD is definitely in the value trap arena, as it really doesn't have a concrete future, and Zaslav isn't exactly some wizard executive that can fix this. In fact, Zaslav's solution is just to cut everything, which might work short term, but will never work out long term. So, I guess it's time for the valuation. With very slow growth of around 1-2%, and growing operating margins, up to an industry average of around 17%, alongside a much lower future amortization value of around 15%, I project WBD to have an approximate value of 14-22 dollars. However, it must be noted that this stock is still in a bit of probation, as there's still so many risks here, and even without that debt, the risks of poor leadership and a directionless ship can really hurt the company. I'd personally probably stay away, at least for now, as there's much better players in media.
PARA: Man, if WBD was a housefire, this would be a gender reveal in California type fire. The disaster that has been Paramount recently has really been, well, disastrous. First, the company has even more cable exposure than WBD. Second, Paramount+ just flat out isn't gonna succeed, and Paramount isn't large enough to support it. Third, the movie studio itself is reliant on a few IP to drive sales. It has been in last place for years, and only managed to climb to 3rd place with Top Gun, before dropping in 2023. The crapshoot that has been this company recently is just not worth a deep dive. It doesn't grow, it doesn't produce hits, its linear networks continue to decline, and it's gonna get bought out soon. Only reason to even consider this currently is as an arbitrage play. Maybe a merger where it remains public, merged with skydance, could succeed, but currently there just isn't much to like.

So, with all the large studios covered, which ones would I personally invest in? Well, to me, the only 2 that make real sense right now are Disney and Comcast. Disney is a strong turnaround, and should be a great long term play. Comcast is both a telecoms and media play, and even with its peacock service being, well, bad, it still shows strong financials and a really strong future. I would also wait for a buying opportunity for Netflix, similar to what we saw in 2022, or wait on WBD to see if they can really make streaming work. Thanks for reading.

2024.05.04 22:42 ABC_123_420 What Is Your Team Building Philosophy?

TLDR; How do you build your team? I value two elite receivers as the most important positions. I am basically "Second-Chance U/Underdog" when it comes to quarterbacks, and I roster 9+ RBs on nearly every team. I am constantly moving RBs for future assets and pretty much always am well stocked on draft picks. A startable RB is the closest asset to "free" in fantasy. Incredibly easy to mine draft capital by prioritizing bench space to the RB position.
 B R E A K
Just a fun discussion point. I am 30 and super stoned finishing up rookie draft week. I noticed a lot of age-related fantasy situations during my drafts in my league chats. I've been playing fantasy football since the dial-up internet days. I find that I am often the oldest person in my leagues. Dynasty fantasy football is probably the only hobby I have that makes me feel old.
I got to thinking about how my era of football effects the way I play dynasty and makes my team construction strategy unique. I think it's an interesting opportunity for a discussion if you can have the patience for my high rant 😂
 B R E A K
I grew up as a teen in the 2000s and my introduction to football was 300+ carry backs and defense. I watched Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson win super bowls behind All-time great defenses and power running game. Im a Patriots fan, and we won super bowls with a game managing Brady throwing to Deion Branch and Troy Brown; not Moss and Welker. These kids think you NEED Mahomes and flashy receivers. I'm still giving every player under 200lbs the stink eye unjustly and just traded away my 4th share of Achane because he's small and I don't buy small in the NFL 🤷‍♂️ I also would never roster Mahomes; the trade package he's worth is worth more than his production compared to quarterbacks of lesser value. I have a theory that the inclement weather year after year in the AFC playoffs is turning back the clock. Look at the direction the AFC is going; back to defense and power run game as a priority over winning shootouts.
Even in Superflex, quarterback is an afterthought and I find the Deshaun Watsons or Cousins while they're hurt in season. I'm holding tons of Jordan Love and have nearly 100% Hendon Hooker ownership. I have lots of Will Levis and I'm not afraid to draft Penix or Nix. I'm buying Daniel Jones, Minshew, and Lance right now the same way I bought Baker Mayfield last year. I have plenty of Purdy and I'll be overpaying FAAB for injury fill-ins. I rode Josh Dobbs to a few wins till the wheels fell off, and replaced him with Mason Rudolph. I have plenty of teams with a combination of Love/Cousins/Purdy/Mayfield/Watson/Levis ready to compete this year.
This quarterback strategy produces elite talent just like paying 1st round capital does, only I get to use my 1st round capital on skill positions 100% of the time. For example, I have a Love/Cousins/Carr team with Bijan/Brooks/Benson/Stevenson/Warren/ZamiJWright/Roschon/Tracy/Vidal/Ali, and GWilson/Olave/London/Pickens/CWatson/Hock. That team should dominate this season. Added bonus on the Falcons stack Cousins/Bijan/London.
 B R E A K
I used to be a RB/RB first two rounds automatic guy in redraft for all of the 2010s. I've conformed, and now I go back to back receivers almost always. I am still dedicated to the RB position as far as quantity goes, but I think the foundation of a championship team is the 2 best receivers you can get your hands on. (3 if it's a start 3 WRs league). Rule #1; unless I have two WR1s on my roster, I am "rebuilding". These two WR1s are the only untouchable players on my roster. I will trade them under no circumstances.
This segways into how I use my flex spots. Do you just go best player available? Best matchup? 2 WRs? 2 RBs? My philosophy is to build a roster with two superstar receivers you would NEVER bench. Like JJ/Chase or Chase/ARSB. Then, I don't roster hardly any bench receivers. 5 total receivers tops. Maybe I'm farming 3 guys a year to hit a guy who might someday be a WR1. I move off guys quickly. Even just cut Josh Downs because I value the roster spot over what he is.
Those spots are better used to shotgun blast young backs. I'm never gonna bench JJ and Chase so why groom Javon Baker over Kimani Vidal? I usually start 2 RBs in my flex spots for a total of 4 RBs and 2 WRs. Volume and receptions are a great way to pile up a double digit flex game and they have safer floors than flex receivers. But, I also have two top 10 WRs combining for 40-80 a week haha. I also usually have 4 to 6 startable RBs because I cast a big net 🤷‍♂️ I went Brooks/Benson in all of my rookie drafts.
 B R E A K
Have to address trades. I almost feel like I trade on a value schedule. Certain times of year I'm after Certain types of assets. The off-season, I'm after quarterbacks set up to exceed expectations like Daniel Jones.
Ive mentioned I'm constantly stacked at RB. A lot of people buy RBs when they're in a competitive window. I am selling RBs year round because I always have them in mass quantities. Would you trade me Daniel Jones for Tyjae Spears right now? What if I told you Spears was my RB6? Jones is still a 26yo starting NFL quarterback with rushing upside in a Superflex regardless of your opinion of him.
In the off-season, I hardly trade at all until draft week. I care deeply about 30-Visits. I traded James Cook for Levis and 2.04 because the Bills made it pretty obvious they were drafting a RB. Easy value there. Took Benson at 2.04 and rid myself of another guy under 200lbs. I doubled down on Ray Davis in the 3rd. It's better to be early and wrong than late and wrong. 50% of the time you get value if you're early, 0% if you're late. Value > Namesake unless it's my two WR1s. They're the only untouchable assets on my roster.
 B R E A K
The negatives to this strategy are entire seasons thrown away developing quarterbacks. But it's never taken me more than 1 year to find two guys good enough to support my elite skill players.
How do you approach roster construction? What positions do you value most? What types of players do you trade for at various points of the season?
