2024.05.16 06:01 Ok_Choice_3734 HRTO Exemption Applicability?

A person and I have been filed against in the HRTO. I will state this case is probably more complex than most cases but I hope my description is clear.
The claimant alleges discrimination because a case of an alleged disability and a reprisal. We're both freaked out but we think we have a strong case and we want to see what the group thinks.
First and foremost the claimant has never ever provided any medical documentation highlighting that they did have a disability because of their mental healt. This is only being alleged by family and friends but not one shred of credible evidence has been provided except self-written letter. In this letter it alleges we have a duty to accommodate, but like I said no other evidence was provided. However on their application they say they provided a medical document but of course this is not true.
Some context of why this situation turned in a bad way was because the person who lived (the tenant) with the claimant was totally freaked out and tired of threatening behavior like telling them that they are being watched by them and the stealing of common equipment for internet and TV.
As this person was just a roommate, per the RTA and confirmed, they were asked to leave given 30 days notice at the time. 2 days before the complete 30 days notice, the police was called because they believed damage was happening. However, the police decided not to evict the claimant and this is what has caused this HRTO case to be filed as they allege discrimination and reprisal stating the claimant was forced to leave (not true because we accepted the police's decision, and everyone else decided to leave). However the claimant did leave the day after the police visit in my opinion to set up this legal case because they were definitely not forced out by any threats because we are not looking to have a legal battle that we have now, we were just freaked out by this behavior with no evidence of an actual disability.
Here is my question: As I read it, the HRTO's interpretation of a housing provider can extend to a tenant (one of the people filed against) who allows a roommate (the claimant here) to live with them in a shared space. If this is the case, would this case be exempted based on any discrimination being not illegal because of this provision:
"21 (1) The right under section 2 to equal treatment with respect to the occupancy of residential accommodation without discrimination is not infringed by discrimination where the residential accommodation is in a dwelling in which the owner or his or her family reside if the occupant or occupants of the residential accommodation are required to share a bathroom or kitchen facility with the owner or family of the owner. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.19, s. 21 (1)."
As a reminder in this case, the owner could be liberally interpreted as the tenant based on my reading. Does this defense make sense and is there anything anyone would recommend?

2024.05.16 05:34 ElPesimista How do I "paste" all elements in a PDF?

I notice whenever I open a PDF file some elements (mainly images) take some time to load (a few ms but still noticable). I also notice in other PDFs with as much elements they load very very fast and all at one. The file size is also smaller on such PDFs (currently mine is 16mb for 4 pages). I assume there's a way of compressing or rendering or pasting the elements into one... So, how?

2024.05.16 05:32 icecream_plays Review #1: Hawaiian Islands Tea Coconut Macadamia Nut Herbal Tea

Review #1: Hawaiian Islands Tea Coconut Macadamia Nut Herbal Tea
Aloha, welcome to my first “tea” review! As someone with heart problems who can’t have much caffeine at all, my reviews will not discriminate! Decaf teas, low caf teas, and tisanes are all fair game!
First impressions: After living on Maui for almost 2 years I have learned that Hawaiian branded products can be VERY good, or they can be a tourist trap. The packaging on the box here is very pretty and the “aloha!” Tag is a nice touch. As you may have noticed this is a rooibos with “natural flavors.” The smell as soon as you open the foil bags is STRONG and not good. Overwhelmingly giving “artificial coconut” with a hint offfff leather? Something like that.
Method: I followed their directions, rolling boil poured over the tea bag, steeped for 5 minutes. Then removed the bag and allowed to cool until there was barely any steam left.
The cup: Ok the nose is better than it was in the bag. Artificial coconut, yes, but not as punchy. The rooibos comes through a little more. It is ALMOST pleasant!
The taste is… not great. There some hints of vanilla maybe a little spice. The nuttiness I was hoping to find from the macadamia nut it’s mild at best, and the artificial coconut flavor paired with the rooibos tastes MUCH like a rubber tire. Not what I’m after.
I finished the cup, like it’s not horrible, but definitely not my favorite. I may brew another one day, but if I was a betting man, I’d say these will collect dust in my cupboard until I move out of this apartment one day and trash them.
Overall: 4/10, below average

2024.05.16 04:37 No_Inspector_3495 No biometrics appointment notice

Through Emma I checked out my biometrics is this Friday and I havent got a notice mailed me yet.
I called uscis and he just told me to wait 24hours so that someone can e mail me an appointment notice. 48hours passed and nothing happened.
What should I do?? Can I just go with my passport at the uscis office and tell them what happened? Will they still allow me for a fingerprint without biometrics appointment notice??

2024.05.16 04:08 BotswanaEnjoyer New Study on the Effect of Teacher Unions

I came across this relatively new study on teacher unions that I thought was interesting. I know unions aren’t necessarily socialist but they are heavily pushed for by people on the left.
https://coss.fsu.edu/econpapers/wpapewp2019_01_01.pdf
This guy, who specializes in education related research in economics, found an opportunity to do a natural experiment in Wisconsin where a law passed in 2010 severely limited the collective bargaining power of public sector unions. He found that after the law passed, teaching degrees increased by an additional 20% and pay significantly increased for high performance teachers. This is after taking into account other factors that may affect employment.
Of course this study only looks at public sector unions where there is no surplus value. I’ve noticed a lack of research on this topic as most studies just cover private sector unions. I personally don’t think this topic is black and white. Unions are often shown to have little to no effect on employment or productivity, but maybe public sector is an exception. Any thoughts?

2024.05.16 04:00 AffectionateHeart460 Do I have an EEOC case?

In March 2023, I started a new role in consulting. In June 2023, I expressed that I was having communication/resepct issues with one of my Managers and wanted to be moved clients as it was affecting my growth— at the time, I did not call out “discrimination” as I was trying to keep the peace and simply ask to be moved, but I noticed that she only acted that way towards me. I could never get a full sentence out with out being disrespected, she didn’t offer the adequate training I needed, etc.
So fast forward to December 2023, I get a low performance review. Which mathematically didn’t make sense, as I had more “meet expectations” than I did, “does not”. The “does not” i received were from her and the senior that I work along side with on that client—- but like I said, I had “meets expectations” from my other managers (i work on multiple clients under different managers)
Due to my low performance review, I am now on biweekly calls with my coach (who has told me it is not a PIP). She is reaching out to my all my managers bi weekly and asking about my performance and it just seems like a dominio effect to get me to quit as now everyone has something negative to say— and I’m expected to improve my performance (which i have been), but every question i ask or mistake I make is being documented. How am i supposed to “improve” if every question I ask is being documented?
I have saved screenshots of various conversations where I’m having issues getting the needed help/training or where it feels like I’m being intentionally called out and targeted or petty Attitude towards me— I understand that these can be justifiable in terms of evidence and not concrete.
Do I have case in terms of discrimination with my initial manager and not getting the respect and training I needed? I also think my low performance review is retaliation from me expressing my issues with this mananger who has been with company for 15+ years. — so I obviously had no fight in the beginning.
It is now June 2024 where I’m mentally burnt, tired of crying and feeling anxiety and depressed from my job. The situation has significantly decreased my confidence in my knowledge and hindered my growth. I stayed until March 2024 of this year because I was under a one year contract. I am wanting to leave, but I am now struggling to find a job because of the job market.

2024.05.16 03:48 Wisting A Level 8 One-Shot: The Frozen Palace of Tirrog

Hello Reddit. Below is a one-shot designed for four level 8 characters. I would expect this to take approximately 2 sessions of a few hours (roughly 6 hours in total) to run through in its entirety. Your mileage may vary depending on how quickly your table handles combat.
You can find a PDF of this adventure along with battlemaps here.
Here's a quick adventure overview:
This is a combat focused adventure that takes place on an unnaturally frozen lake outside the mountain town of Maul, though it could be set on any lake of your choosing.
The players are tasked with killing a Frost Giant named Tirrog who has recently descended from nearby mountains. With the aid of a white dragon, he has frozen the lake and created an icy palace atop it.
The players must survive a series of challenging encounters before confronting Tirrog and his enslaved white dragon beneath his palace. After successfully ending the threat, the players will be rewarded with the favor of Maul’s residents.
If you get the chance to run this, or even just look through the whole thing, I would love feedback!
Here is the rest of the adventure:

For the DM: What’s Going on Here?

Some additional context just for the Dungeon Master:
· Tirrog, the Frost Giant, was cast out of his clan after losing a duel with his father.
· He stole a Young Adult White Dragon named Bymraynyl and used her power to freeze a nearby lake and construct an icy palace.
· Tirrog resides in a cavern beneath the palace, awaiting the challenge of Maul’s mightiest warriors, hoping to regain his clan’s favor by winning.
· Bymraynyl, the white dragon, is imprisoned by Tirrog and will only attack the players if they fail to free her.

Adventure Hooks

When determining why your players are involved with ending Tirrog’s icy presence, feel free to use any, or all, of the below Adventure Hooks when discussing this adventure with your players.

Aiding the Guards of Maul

The adventurers are approached by Brenlanna Orina, the Captain of the Guards of Maul. Brenlanna explains the situation caused by Tirrog is dire as his forces roam the countryside and many townsfolk have gone missing.
The constant threat has left the town’s defenses stretched thin and she needs capable adventurers to end his reign of terror. She emphasizes that defeating Tirrog will not only bring peace to Maul, but also earn the gratitude and favor of its people.

Ecological Balance

Mort, A local druid, approaches the adventurers to express his deep concerns about the unnatural freezing of the lake. Mort explains that the frozen lake has disrupted the local ecosystem, causing harm to wildlife and plants.
He implores the adventurers to defeat Tirrog and restore the natural balance. In return, the druid offers their knowledge of the land, rare herbs, and a powerful artifact as a reward. Restoring the lake to its natural state will help the region thrive once more.

Dragon Hunters

Word has travelled far and wide that Bymraynyl, a white dragon, is far from its natural territory and is imprisoned by Tirrog, the frost giant.
The adventurers are from a dragon hunting guild and see this as a prime opportunity to either hone their skills of slaying dragons or set free a majestic creature, allowing it to grow and become a more challenging hunt.

Before the Adventure Begins

This adventure begins by introducing your players at the gates of Tirrog’s frozen palace. They will be battling their way through Tirrog’s defenses, seeking to challenge him. Share the below excerpt with your players as they create their characters:
Your journeys have brought you to Maul, a small mountain town renowned for its gladiatorial games held beneath the mountain of Pike Rise.
Word has travelled quickly that Tirrog, a frost giant, has descended from the peaks of Pike Rise with Bymraynyl, a white dragon. They have frozen a nearby lake and constructed an icy palace. Frost is spreading farther from the lake with each passing day and Tirrog’s forces patrol the countryside, pillaging small villages.
For your own various reasons, you have agreed to help end Tirrog’s reign of terror by any means necessary.
As the game master, you should note down the passive perception for each character as this will be referenced in the adventure for ambush encounters.
The encounters provided in this adventure are balanced for four level 8 characters. To adjust for fewer players, consider removing ¼ of the monsters’ health pools for each player less than four. To adjust for more players, consider adding additional Duergar Berserkers or Ice Mephits in each encounter.

Approaching the Palace

When your players are ready to begin their adventure, start by reading the below excerpt to kick things off:
As you approach the lake, a chill unlike any you’ve felt before cuts through your armor. Before you is an unnaturally frozen expanse, its surface a flawless sheet of ice stretching as far as the eye can see. The air is eerily still, and the usual sounds of wildlife are absent, replaced only by the whispers of wind across the frozen wasteland.
In the center of this icy domain stands an imposing ice palace, its glistening walls reflect the pale sunlight from above. Four watchtowers, each 40 feet tall and crafted entirely of ice, stand at the corners of the palace.
The front door of the palace, a massive slab of ice 20 feet wide, looms before you. Its surface is intricately carved with frost patterns, but it is sealed shut, offering no immediate passage into the stronghold. The sense of foreboding is palpable, as if the palace itself is a living entity, waiting to challenge those who dare approach.
[Player A], please describe your character, what they are doing, and where they are on the map. (Ask this of all players before continuing)

Palace Locations

P1. Four Watchtowers

To open the palace's front door, the adventurers must pull four levers located at the tops of the four icy watchtowers. Each tower is guarded by a Duergar Berserker and two Ice Mephits. Engaging one group will alert the other towers.
Ice bridges connect the left and right towers and are considered difficult terrain. The 40-foot towers are nearly impossible to climb without magic or specialized gear. Once all four levers are pulled, the palace door will melt.

P2. Palace Entrance

The palace's interior boasts 30-foot-high ceilings supported by large ice pillars. Braziers of blue flame illuminate four ice sculptures, an icy throne, and the bones of Tirrog's unsuccessful challengers. In the center of the floor is a 20-foot circle of intricate carvings, which opens when two Ice Elementals are defeated.
Two Ice Elementals are hidden within the ice walls, ready to ambush the players once they all enter the palace. Upon defeating them, the circle in the floor melts away, revealing a 100-foot-deep hole with a wooden ladder descending beneath the lake.

P3. Beneath the Lake

The floors in all subsequent rooms are ice and considered difficult terrain. There are four pairs of Ice Cleats in room P4 which can aid with traversing the rooms. Most of the walls are perfectly sculpted ice, 25-feet-high, but some areas have caved in due to lake pressure or creature damage. All doorways are wooden and unlocked unless noted otherwise.
There are no torches in this room and constant howling wind can be heard from room P6.

P4. Ice Bunks

This well-lit room of ice contains four beds and supplies for the Duergar. If the boxes are searched, the players will easily find four pairs of Ice Cleats.
There are 2 Duergar Berserkers in this room and if engaged, they will alert the Duergar in room P5.
A DC 18 investigation check will uncover a +2 Greataxe hidden in an icy cavity underneath one of the beds. There is a small supply room that connects P4 to P5.

P5. Leisure Hall

This room is well-lit and contains tables, mostly empty casks of beer, and a rack of mugs along the wall. There is 1 Duergar Berserker and 1 Duergar Priest in this room. They will alert the Duergar in room P4 if engaged.
One of the casks has 6 servings of Mimic’s Brew left in it.

P6. The Frozen Hall

This area is the coldest room in the Palace and there is a deafening wind constantly blowing. It is well-lit and the entryway to this room is supported by two pillars.
There is a magical ice statue at the end of the hallway that is constantly blowing damaging ice winds. There is a stone on the back of the statue which deactivates it.
The wind blows from the statue and ends just before it reaches the room with the pillars. A creature can be damaged by the wind once per round. If a creature is in the presence of the icy wind, they must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw, taking 22 (5d8) cold damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
The doorways to P10 and P11 are locked with padlocks. They can both be unlocked with a DC 17 Thieves’ Tools check.

P7. Prison Cell

This room contains one locked cell. It takes a Thieves’ Tools check (DC 15) to unlock the cell. There is also a chair made of ice sitting in the corner of this room.
Zathea, a female Duergar Berserker, is locked in the cell and visibly malnourished.
If Zathea is freed from her cell, she will warn the adventurers of the troll ahead, tell them how to deactivate the stone statue, and ask that they consider letting Bymraynyl go

P8. Lumber Storage

This unlit room is where lumber for fires is kept. There are a few axes for cutting wood. Three of the logs in this room are Mimics but will only attack if the players actively search through the logs.

P9. The Crumbling Hall

This illuminated hallway is visibly damaged. A Perception check (DC 15) will notice claw marks as the primary source of damage.
The doorway to P10 is locked with a padlock and can be unlocked with a DC 17 Thieves’ Tools check.

P10. Troll’s Den

This room is not lit, contains the bones of many dead fish, and smells putrid. There is 1 Troll in this room.
A DC 17 Investigation check will find a gemmed golden lure in the carcass of a dead fish worth approximately 50 gold pieces.

P11. Bymraynyl, The White Dragon

This room contains Bymraynyl, a young adult white dragon, who has just freed herself from Tirrog’s chains. She is visibly wounded and only has half of her health.
She will try to reason with the adventurers to let her go but is ready to fight if they will not.
If the players choose to free Bymraynyl, she will excavate a small amount of ice and reveal a +2 Breastplate hidden in the ice, which they are free to take.

P12. Tirrog, The Frost Giant

Tirrog sits patiently in this well-lit icy throne room, waiting for his challengers. Before engaging with the adventurers, he gently pats a large wooden chest next to his throne and says in Giant:
I took all that I could from Pike Rise and it’s all yours should you defeat me. But with your heads, I can return home. Let us see who will be rewarded this day.
The chest contains 15 sapphires worth 25 gold each, 2,000 gold, 2 potions of greater healing, and an Everwarm Blanket.

Random Encounters

Roll 1 4-sided die every hour to determine which monsters return to the palace from their patrol around the lake. All monsters should roam freely as you see fit.
Result Monsters returning from Patrol
1 3 Duergar Berserkers & 2 Ice Mephits
2 1 Ice Elemental & 4 Ice Mephits
3 1 Troll
4 1 Ice Elemental & 1 Duergar Berserker
Concluding the Adventure
Upon defeating Tirrog, the players will have reached the end of this adventure. If you and your players wish to continue adventuring from this point, this would be an appropriate milestone to increase their character levels to 9.
Thank you for playing through The Frozen Palace of Tirrog. I hope you and your players had a fun time with this adventure!

Magical Items

Everwarm Blanket

Adventuring Gear, very rare
This quilted blanket is surrounded by a comfortably warm aura.
While this blanket is in your inventory, you do not suffer any exhaustion caused by sources of cold.

Ice Cleats

Adventuring Gear, common
These blue metal cleats can be attached to any footwear.
While equipped, ice is not considered difficult terrain when moving across it.

Mimic’s Brew (Brown Ale)

Beer, Uncommon
When you drink this beer, you can change your appearance as though you casted Alter Self for one hour.
An hour after you consume this beer, your tongue hangs from your mouth until you finish a long rest.
The bottom of this potent brown ale is a small layer of slime

Tirrog’s Helmet

Helmet, rare (requires attunement)
You gain a +1 bonus to AC and Constitution saving throws while you where this helmet.
While wearing this helmet, you can gain the “enlarge” effect of the enlarge/reduce spell for 1d4 hours (no concentration required). Once used, this effect cannot be used again until you complete a long rest.

2024.05.16 03:40 Present-Material1837 Can I write on Bank Statements for evidence to be uploaded online?

Hi everyone, my husband and I are in the process of preparing evidence to submit to USCIS as a bona fide marriage after we received a notice of intend to deny. The officer has requested bank statements from us. Since statements have too many transactions on them, I want to bring to the officer's attention specific transactions and write a short explanation next to the transaction on the statement itself. Is that a problem? Can I write on the statements? I will be uploading all of these online. Please help!

2024.05.16 03:19 khanvict85 Citizenship Interview (N400) with pending i751 (Removal of Conditions on Green Card)

had my naturalization/citizenship interview today (n400 filed december 2023). i also filed removal of conditions on my green card petition i751 (in december 2022) which only ever received a receipt notice with no movement in processing. was wondering if i would have a combo interview.
i prepared as if it would be a combo interview and brought my wife. when i was called up officer told my wife he didnt need to speak with her.
when he let me in he said he saw my i751 case and already made a decision on it and was ready to proceed with the naturalization/civics test which is why he didnt need to interview my wife.
i passed the civics test and he was ready to approve and proceed both cases to oath ceremony scheduling.
however, he hit a technical snag. the system wouldnt grant him the access to approve the i751. i think he genuinely tried about 3x and for over half an hour before he gave up and said he would have to continue the case vs. approving the cases on the spot today.
in essence, he told me congratulations, he would approve it as soon as it lets him, and just to wait for the oath ceremony letter in the mail.
i wasnt asked anything about my marriage. wasnt asked for any evidence about my marriage. all in all it was a smooth process.
i have no idea if i'll be waiting a few days, weeks or longer as a result of the technical issue but if i had to guess a couple of weeks because it sounded like he would pick up the case after i get back from a family vacation next week so they avoid scheduling my oath ceremony while im out of town (when i was waiting in the lobby i told him they were announcing other peoples oath ceremony dates just 6 days from today for those that passed their interview).
i'm guessing they need to have the i751 case transferred from the dallas office where its assigned to the local office here and thats probably why he didnt have the access to approve it (just an assumption on my part).
thought i'd share for anyone in a similar boat with their i751 and n400s.
UPDATE: minutes after making the original post, the uscis officer that interviewed me called and ask me to come back to resign some forms that he thought went through but didnt.
i went back within an hour, signed the forms, and he updated my n400 case and it first went to approval recommended with quality care standard review to oath ceremony scheduled by the time i got home. it says i should expect the date/time in the mail soon.
the i751 status changed to case dismissed as he told me you wont receive the green card anyway since youre gaining citizenship.

2024.05.16 03:16 CODMplayer247 Form N-400 Los Angeles office

Form N-400 Los Angeles office
Hwy everyone. I have applied for the form N400 in the end of 2023. After one week I got a notice that says they're going to reuse my biometric information on file (( that means I don't have to go to a USCIS application support Center to get my biometric)) and after 2 months I got my interview scheduled for naturalization. In April I went to the interview and my application was denied ( due to incomplete days of residency) and they told me to apply again later on this year. And they sent me a mail with the final decision of denial on April 15. However; on May 7 I received a notice I-797 receipt notice says that they've received my $725 and it also says that they're going to schedule a biometric appointment for my form N400. The notice has the same IOE number as the application that was denied. So what exactly is going on? did USCIS reopened my case after denial? I didn't ask for my case to be reopened. Or is that a mistake from the system? I need to see other people point of view about this and I want to know if anyone has been through the same thing. Thanks !

2024.05.16 00:55 Inconspicuouslynamed Bad AOS marriage based interview experience -- seeking advice

Hi all -- I'm the USC spouse seeking to adjust status for my immigrant wife. She is a DACA recipient and has been in removal proceedings. We married in 2020, applied for a standalone I130 per our lawyer's advice. We also petitioned the immigration review board to reopen her case and have a letter from an appellate judge dismissing the removal dated from fall 2022. Our priority date is from November of 2022, so we've been waiting a while. We've used a lawyer the whole time but opted to do the interview ourselves. We had previously petitioned the immigration review board to reopen her case and have a letter from an appellate judge dismissing the removal dated from fall of 2022. I'm going to mix up some info and leave the FO out because I don't want anyone doxed, but our interview went poorly. I've already reached out to our lawyer about it but would like to hear from others if they have any advice or commiserate on how awful uscis is.
The interview took close to an hour and was almost entirely about my spouses issues with immigration in the past. The officer seemed very confused on two points:
1) He essentially didn't believe us when my spouse explained that the reason her adjustment of status was denied years ago (roughly came here around 1992 and was denied around 2010) with her family was that she aged out. He kept maintaining that that was impossible and her age should have been frozen from when her dad applied. We didn't really know what to say except for like "yeah, we wish she had had her status adjusted then." They used lawyers and appealed but it stood and she was issued a deportation order -- only being stopped by DACA and the case being "administratively closed." We eventually moved past this disagreement with the immigration officer conducting the interview, but I'm unsure if he found the reason satisfactory. I'm not sure why this was such a prolonged part of the interview but it took quite a while. He made it seem like he couldn't approve us unless he knew the reason she was denied before but wouldn't accept the reason we provided. Eventually, he made my spouse sign a statement summarizing what happened and we moved on.
2) He said on his end that my spouse's removal proceedings were still showing up as active but that they were also showing up as dismissed. I don't remember the exact language he used though. He made it clear that he didn't know what to do. He said he would check with a more senior immigration officer and call us back that day to let us know if we needed to submit anything else or to let us know we are all good. I gave him my phone number. He didn't call us back.
3) We received a notice of interview results that was handed to us at the end of the interview. It just said that they were going to keep reviewing our case. After we got home, we noticed that it does not have my spouse's name. Instead, it has somebody else's name and A-number. I used the online chat with uscis and they say we should mail it back to the Field Office. A tier 2 officer is supposed to contact us within the next two days but I don't know what else to do. We certainly don't want the interview to "not count" or anything because of the officer's error.
Has anyone encountered anything remotely similar to this? I found my officer on linkedin and it looks like he just started a few months ago. I've emailed a similar summary to our lawyer and will wait for a response before doing anything.

Let's Talk About Atoms
I took some heavy down votes today but not the normal heavy number of negative comments.
That was likely due to me having "DFV" in the title but also because a lot of people don't actually know much about atoms.
There's a misconception when it comes to electrons (the moving parts in atoms.).
They aren't always visible.
They seemingly disappear and reappear.
The cool part is that they reappear where their projected path actually is/was to be.
Where they are during that absence is "somewhere else".
So:
  • They do follow a specific "path"
  • You can view it
  • You can only view half of it unless you move with it
I even made you a gif today to show this:

Last but not least.
I don't think I need to explain that crypto ETFs can no longer be used blah blah blah
but you might find it interesting to know why crypto is rising after this.
Considering that about 99% of crypto is held by the very organizations that this would affect greatly, giving them a reason to sell all of it. Why would they do that when they can still hide shit under the mask of other shit.

That's right! $220,537,903,588,164 for a single trade.
The only other trades this thing made were on January 27th and 28th, 2021.
When you're in a panic, you make mistakes. They made a pretty big one here.
You have two options when it comes to new "coins":
  1. A lot of coins with a lower value.
  2. Less coins with a higher value.
When you aren't smart enough to realize what brokers did to you and brokers didn't even notice, you're both to blame.
In this case, shorts realized that they could borrow more shares to short every time their algo needed to and brokers wanted those juicy fees, so their algos just kept doing what they do with no over sight whatsoever.
Then someone took a look and realized how absolutely fucked both of them were.
A few panicked calls were made and hiding their shit in crypto was the solution.
They chose #2 without thinking apes would hold.
High frequency trading put them here but it won't get them out.
I think I can copy their code. Let me know how I did;
import stonkgame
while run:
if short == True: borrow (1) elif long == True: short (2) for event in market.event.get(): if market.maker.runs == arrest: run == False
Fun fact: All radioactive atoms eventually degrade into lead.

2024.05.16 00:17 Jango214 Applying for H1B and STEM OPT EAD

Hi
I know that it is advisable to apply for both, but my question is a bit different.
1- I submit all my documentation to the law firm and they go ahead with the H1B petition submission. I do not know the exact date they will file it with USCIS.
2- Can I then apply for a STEM OPT on my end independently of the H1B? Do I need to update the H1B petition anywhere with the I-765 receipt notice or any such thing?
Is it advisable to do so?
Or is it better to first apply for the STEM OPT, get the receipt notice, then attach that to the H1B petition?
Reason I am asking is because my employer is taking time to fill out the I-983 training plan, and then I will submit that to my university to get the STEM OPT, which will take about 3-4 days, and then I will submit my STEM OPT EAD application.

2024.05.16 00:06 thevangea Never received I-131 or I-765 receipt notice

Good afternoon guys,
We submitted our concurrent filing for I-130 and I-485 on early January 2024. They already got my biometrics late February and since then it’s just processing.
I thought the process would be faster. We have our wedding out of the country on January 2025.
I got a little scared because of the timing so I decided to also submit the employment authorization and travel permit forms (I-131 and I-765) early April.
I never got a receipt notice for those or something that tells me that we received those forms. I only have the USPS tracking number that says it arrived to destination (office in Chicago).
They also don’t show in myUSCIS.
Can I do something about it? Should I be worried?
Thanks

2024.05.15 23:59 No-Mud4063 Filing fees-reentry

Hello all,
I am a bit confused on what the filing fees for sending out form I-131 is. On the USCIS, website it says the filing fee is $630. Is that including or without biometric fee? I can't seem to find the biometric fee detail separately. For another form(I-821), it clearly mentions additional biometric fee. Can anyone please help me out?

2024.05.15 23:57 omaldonado94 Update from USCIS for pending DACA cases:

Below is an email I received today from USCIS:
Dear DACA Recipient,
As USCIS has long recommended, we strongly encourage you to submit your DACA renewal request between 120 and 150 days (4 to 5 months) before the expiration date located on your current Form I-797 DACA approval notice. Filing during this window reduces the risk that your current period of DACA and employment authorization expires before you receive a decision on your renewal request. Please note that filing more than 150 days before your current DACA expiration date will not result in a faster decision.
We acknowledge that in recent months some DACA renewal requestors have experienced processing times longer than the 120-day processing time goal due to a technical issue, which we have resolved. We are committed to reviewing and processing all DACA renewal requests within 120 days. When we learned of the issue, we devoted additional resources to review and resolve, as appropriate, DACA renewals requests that were affected by the technical issue. We anticipate that within the next 30-45 days we will review and resolve the vast majority of affected requests that we have not already resolved.
DACA renewal requestors may submit an inquiry online about the status of your renewal requests if it has been pending more than 105 days. We also consider expedite requests on a case-by-case basis. Please visit the USCIS Expedite Requests website for more information and guidance on expedite requests.
Filing Process
You may submit a DACA renewal request online or on paper.
To file Form I-821D and Form I-765 online, you must first create a USCIS online account, which provides a convenient and secure method to submit forms, pay fees, and track the status of any pending USCIS immigration request throughout the adjudication process. There is no cost to set up an account, which offers a variety of features, including the ability to communicate with USCIS through a secure inbox and respond online to Requests for Evidence. For additional information on filing a DACA renewal request online, go to the Form I-821D webpage. All online DACA renewal requests must include Form I-821D, Form I-765, and Form I-765WS and accompanying fees.
If you are filing on paper, you can find the form on the Form I-821D webpage. If you file on paper, we recommend you complete a Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, to receive an e-notification when we accept your form. For additional information on the requirements for DACA renewal, please visit our DACA Frequently Asked Questions.
Fee Change
On Jan. 31, 2024, USCIS published a final rule to adjust certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees. This final rule went into effect on April 1, 2024. The fee for Form I-821D did not change. The fee for Form I-765 increased to $520. Form I-765 applications filed online will receive a $50 discount.

2024.05.15 22:53 starsign28 Made a format mistake on my Resume, how in trouble am I?

After 50+ applications within the last month on Indeed, and a couple people checking over my resume, I just noticed that from switching from a PDF into Word, the format got messed up on my bulleted list of skills in one of my past jobs. Instead of a list, it just had them all together like a paragraph. Still with bullet points.
I have gotten multiple interviews from companies and even an offer or two, but just now realizing after this long and I just submitted a couple to some companies I really liked.
So in short, how in trouble am I on some of the last couple applications?

2024.05.15 22:20 YixinKnew Is there such a thing as disparate impact from "ethnic businesses"?

For example, let's say someone owned a manufacturing company. They put up postings/notices for welding positions, like companies regularly do.
The positions had wages below market rates. This was done so most welders would stay away, allowing those of the owner's ethnic group to apply and get the positions without much competition. Essentially, filtering using unfavorable wages that would only be tolerated because of ethnic affinity.
The owner avoided deliberate discrimination, like tossing applications, since not many outside the ethnic group applied. They also didn't raise wages after hiring, as that would be suspicious.
Is this illegal? Easy target for civil suit?
(I'm not a business owner nor do I plan on doing this fyi.)

2024.05.15 22:19 math_sci_geek ICSD Superintendent's contract

https://www.seethroughny.net/contracts/Ithaca_S_2024.pdf
I would like to point out 2 key things for people still thinking about board candidates (if anyone watched last nights board meeting and public comment period, it is clear that we don't have to worry anymore about the budget passing - it will not, the only question is whether it will be 60% voting against or 70%) from this contract. As a normal matter, he is entering the year by year portion of the contract. They have to tell him by June 30th if they are keeping him on for another year, with a certain notice period.
However, at the end of the contract, it also says that either side may terminate the agreement with 60 days notice. At any time when they determine that the arrangement is no longer working, either party can give 60 days notice. I can't think of a better reason than the NYSED downgrading of our schools (though technically no reason formally needs to be given).
So when you attend a meeting with candidates for the board, please ask them what they think of (a)the rate at which the budget should increase in future years, given that enrollment is slowly declining (there are just fewer kids than in the last decade) and (b)their position on keeping the superintendent, or hiring someone who can successfully downscale the size of administration and various frills and get back to a focus on the basics. We need to raise entering teacher salaries, ensure that teachers with 10+ years get COLAs with a good ramp of raises from year 1 to 10, while keeping under the tax cap every year for the next 5-10 years in my opinion. If enrollment declines enough, we may actually be able to reduce budgets.
As a side gripe, I think this contract was a sweetheart deal. I know of people in the private sector who get deals/terms like this, but they are usually in finance (eg banks, insurance companies, wall street) or corporate management (EVP or C-suite). It's way too rich for a local government non-profit position. With this precedent no wonder every other high level admin is also overpaid - it all scales from the top guy. And no wonder someone who gets a deal like this wants an empire of lackeys to run - they have to justify that salary.

My documents section only shows one file on my I-130 packet. Has anyone encounter this issue?
I send in our I-130 via smail (USPS) mail. It arrived at the Texas center, then sent to Nebraska. At first the receipt we received didn’t say anything that the document would be transferred online. I was able to register on the USCIS portal, after issues I had with that, to see that they had a given us a different receipt number. This receipt was never mailed to us, just stumbled into in on the documents.
Right now on the documents section, I can only see one file of the I-130 documents we sent uploaded. This is a RFE paper we sent in the packet. I contacted my congressman to see if they could get an answer for us, since I called, used Emma to no actual response. The responses they gave the case worker the congressman assigned said, “it takes about 5 months for any updates and/or changes. Contact us again if the issue persist.” The case worker said to contact him again in 5 months (this was 2 months ago) to see if anything changed. We got the Account Acceptance Notice Sept. 6th (9months ago and counting) with no changes to the online document’s tabs or any additional files added. Has anyone experienced this?
