Why I like HEB (and a couple of things I don't)
2024.05.15 18:22 semper-gourmanda Why I like HEB (and a couple of things I don't)
Every week I go to
Kroger.com and
HEB.com and comparison shop. Might seem trivial, but here's why I like HEB.
- Website is faster than Kroger
- Search works correctly. Kroger does this weird grey-out of the screen and takes 2 clicks to click into the search box and then provides suggestions.
- Sort by price.
- Prices are always lower.
- Store Pickup is way better than Kroger (but you could integrate pickup with the mobile app better, rather than relying on text - here Kroger has halfway built it better in their mobile app).
- The in store experience is great.
- Great bakery and great take-away items like meals/quick-prep items.
- Better organic (you've long been known for this).
Cons - you don't carry all the brands. And the in-house brands are gross. And you're biased toward your own brands. Sorry, but most La Tienda or HEB branded food is way over salted (the sodium is off the charts) and gross or bland.
So I still have to shop at Kroger for things like Smithfield Ham. But HEB carries the Smithfield Cherrywood Smoked Bacon and Kroger does not. And Kroger sells better nuts for less: e.g., Simple Truth cashews are the bomb. So I still have to double shop. Go figure.

2024.05.15 17:22 paulvzo I finally just went sober
I don't recall when I first came to this subreddit, a few years ago.
A very heavy drinker for many decades. I tried all the cutting down ideas to no avail.
Eight months sober and a lot easier than I thought possible. The first few days were tough and since I didn't have alcohol to knock me out, could not fall asleep. I also discovered that my tremors were not due to old age, it was alcohol.
I went to AA for a few months. All those cutting down ideas get mentioned and laughed at as things everyone tried before just admitting, Step One, "I'm powerless over alcohol."
I do miss it at times. Like when I smoke a cigar; where's my Scotch or red wine?
I have found Lagunitas IPNA (India Pale No Alcohol Ale) a decent alternative when a beer or ale sounds right. Guiness has a great NA product, too.
YMMV.

2024.05.15 17:22 WishboneObvious9758 School skipping (and family!) problems..
I'm taking O's this year so it's a pretty bad year for me to be doing this shit.
Last year for sec 3, I skipped around 30 days the whole year but it wasn't that bad. I was still functional. Though I did pretty badly for eoys, it wasn't alarming compared to everyone else. I had bad days but I still managed. The school didn't call my parents nor did any teachers speak to me about my absentees.
This year though, I'm completely fucked. It feels as though I don't even have control of when and how long I'll be skipping. I used to have some form of balance, for example, I'd skip maybe one or two days every two weeks or so on. This year however, I can't go a full week of school. I don't think I've even been to all five days of school this year. There's hbl every two weeks and on the weeks that don't, I'd skip at least two days. Actually, I skip even when it's not a full week.
My teacher finally called my dad up this year when I went MIA for almost a week (it was across a weekend so technically i only missed 4 days). He threatened to come over and escort me to school if I didn't go myself (school alr started, it was around 10am). So I went in the middle of the day. Things went downhill from that point onwards.
That teacher started talking to me and I started seeing the school councellor. BTW she's fucking useless and shld be retired (F70+??) Anyways its getting worse since more teachers has been taking notice of my behaviour and the year head or discipline mistress called up my dad alr (like this morning cause I missed two days of schl)
It started off as merely being tired/lazy/unmotivated to go to schl but recently I feel like that's not all it is since this behaviour is getting rlly out of hand.
Oh right also ofc there's the family issues and so on. My dad was never there when I grew up (business trips) so I went to my mom for basically everything. But then he had to stay in sg due to covid and smth happened so my mom was no longer capable. The thing is, my dad does not give a shit what I do. It's not due to lack of care but just being insanely bad at communication and an insanely bad parent. Provides money and food and shit like that but I cld be doing drugs or smoking and dude would just let it happen. And recently, he was caught having an affair (lols).
Anyways the point is that he has to handle my schl things now and ofc he's the one that the schl calls and teacher wants to talk to. They don't understand him or his behaviour though. He's the type of parent that's probably limited edition, super rare because his behaviour is just rlly weird. He stopped speaking up abt my skipping behaviour after a small 2 liner argument with him and he says nothing to me abt what a teacher has talked abt or just anything at all. I probably wouldn't even know abt it if the teacher didn't ask to speak with me first. So whilst to the teachers, they're speaking to a troubled students parent but in reality, they're speaking to nothing but a robot, a block of wood who cld not be more useless in improving my behaviour.
I'm not sure what I'm focusing on and worried abt the most though. My grades getting worse. My conduct grade being a fair (it's not that bad). The amount of demerits. The teachers getting up into my business (ik it's their job). Or the teachers thinking that talking to my father wld help. (Also he's not even gonna be part of the family after the divorce but clearly the teachers aren't aware abt it.)
Oh and the details are that I'm just feeling super hopeless in general and everything feels like it's getting out of hand. My sec 3 eoys L1R5 is 30 and I'm steadily failing both sciences with my maths alternating between A, C, and fail.
I don't really know what to do nor what I really want to get out of this post but I thought why not I guess..and it became a rant. Haha sorry. Its just a bad year for this things to be happening since its O's and I think that's why teachers are becoming more busybody. Sry the English isn't good and my storytelling is a mess butš idk provide me a second opinion or advice?

2024.05.15 15:39 Kirkl01 Understanding Dentistry
Like most people, you probably don't give your teeth and gums much thought unless something goes wrong. But maintaining good dental health is crucial to your general well-being.
General dentistry in Kirkland can help with it.
The area of dentistry known as general dentistry is dedicated to the detection, diagnosis, and management of illnesses and disorders of the mouth. This covers everything from straightforward processes like cleanings and fillings to more complex ones like root canals and dental implants.
Although many people only go to the dentist when they have an issue, maintaining good oral health requires routine preventive treatment. You can prevent future dental health issues of a serious nature with general dentistry. Additionally, it can enhance your attractiveness and increase your confidence.
The following are some ways that general dentistry in Kirkland can raise your standard of living:
Teeth whitening: Smoking, drinking coffee or tea, or just growing older can all cause teeth to become discolored or stained over time. Brightening your smile and increasing your self-confidence can be achieved safely and effectively with teeth whitening.
Dental implants: Teeth that are lost are replaced with dental implants. They are a fantastic alternative for people who have lost one or more teeth as a result of an accident or illness since they appear and feel like real teeth. Additionally, implants can maintain the jaw's bone.
Frequent dental checkups are crucial for the wellbeing of your gums in addition to your teeth. In order to stop gum disease from getting worse, dentists can identify its early warning indicators and suggest therapies. Adult tooth loss is primarily caused by gum disease, thus it's critical to identify it early and treat it appropriately.

2024.05.15 14:50 No-Customer-9172 Infertility: Types, Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment
Certainly, here's a comprehensive overview of infertility, covering its types, causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options:
Types of Infertility: - Primary infertility: When a couple has never been able to conceive despite regular, unprotected intercourse for at least a year.
- Secondary infertility: Occurs when a couple has previously conceived and given birth, but is unable to conceive again after a year of trying.
Causes of Infertility: - Ovulation disorders: Irregular or absent ovulation can be caused by hormonal imbalances, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or stress.
- Fallopian tube damage or blockage: Conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometriosis, or previous pelvic surgery can cause scarring or blockage of the fallopian tubes, hindering the fertilization process.
- Uterine or cervical abnormalities: Structural issues in the uterus, such as fibroids, polyps, or congenital anomalies, as well as cervical mucus abnormalities, can affect fertility.
- Male factors: Low sperm count, poor sperm motility, abnormal sperm morphology, or blockages in the male reproductive tract can contribute to infertility.
- Age: Advanced maternal or paternal age can reduce fertility due to declining egg and sperm quality.
- Lifestyle factors: Factors such as obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, drug use, and exposure to environmental toxins can negatively impact fertility.
- Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, autoimmune disorders, cancer, or sexually transmitted infections, can affect fertility.
Symptoms of Infertility: - Inability to conceive: The primary symptom of infertility is the inability to conceive after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse (or six months for women over 35).
- Irregular menstrual cycles: Irregular or absent menstrual periods may indicate ovulation disorders or hormonal imbalances.
- Painful periods or intercourse: Conditions such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease can cause painful periods or discomfort during intercourse.
Diagnosis of Infertility: - Medical history and physical examination: Healthcare providers will inquire about the couple's medical history, lifestyle factors, and sexual habits, and conduct a physical examination to identify any potential causes of infertility.
- Ovulation testing: Ovulation can be assessed through methods such as tracking menstrual cycles, basal body temperature charting, ovulation predictor kits, or blood tests to measure hormone levels.
- Semen analysis: A semen analysis is performed to evaluate sperm count, motility, morphology, and other parameters of sperm quality.
- Imaging tests: Ultrasound, hysterosalpingography (HSG), or hysteroscopy may be used to assess the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries for abnormalities.
- Hormone testing: Blood tests can measure hormone levels such as estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and thyroid hormones to assess hormonal balance and ovarian function.
- Diagnostic procedures: Procedures such as laparoscopy or hysteroscopy may be performed to directly visualize and diagnose abnormalities in the reproductive organs.
Treatment of Infertility: - Lifestyle modifications: Adopting a healthy lifestyle, including maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, weight management, and avoiding harmful substances, can improve fertility.
- Medications: Fertility medications such as clomiphene citrate, letrozole, or gonadotropins may be prescribed to induce ovulation or improve egg quality.
- Assisted reproductive technologies (ART):
- Intrauterine insemination (IUI): Sperm is directly inserted into the uterus during ovulation to improve the chances of fertilization.
- In vitro fertilization (IVF): Eggs are retrieved from the ovaries, fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, and then implanted into the uterus.
- Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI): A single sperm is injected directly into an egg in the laboratory to facilitate fertilization.
- Donor eggs or sperm: In cases of severe male or female infertility, donor eggs or sperm may be used in fertility treatments.
- Surgery: Surgical procedures may be performed to correct structural abnormalities in the reproductive organs, remove blockages, or treat conditions such as endometriosis or fibroids.
- Alternative therapies: Some couples may explore alternative or complementary therapies such as acupuncture, herbal supplements, or stress reduction techniques to improve fertility, although evidence supporting their effectiveness is limited.
The appropriate treatment for infertility depends on the underlying cause, the duration of infertility, the age of the individuals involved, and personal preferences. It's important for couples experiencing infertility to seek evaluation and guidance from a fertility specialist or reproductive endocrinologist to explore their options and develop a personalized treatment plan.

2024.05.15 14:24 hcreiG This is Fact Checked by History Fictionologists - About a Grumpy Moth without Wings
"Hey do you know that mute bum, a strange worn-off Black Mask with Gold Accents and numerous horns, tattered clothes, gray hair, and scars all over his body who always smells like something that just burned?"
"Oh, what about him?"
"I know the Tavern is full of misfits, and I've been touring my theatrics away from here, but what's so special about that hotshot that everyone moves out of his way?"
"Well if you're so curious why not just go at it?"
"And what about you?"
"Can't spoil it now, eh?"
"Now, now Giovanni, there can't be anyone madder than me"
"How presumptuous of you Sparkle" (maybe she'll finally kick the bucket now, hopefully)
Kalpas Path - Physical Preservation
"The Mute Grumpy Bum, A Masked Fool(?), perhaps a Mourning Actor rather, but the insignia behind his tattered jacket were that of a, Moth? Yet his heavy steps always leave behind a literal burning trail... How ominous. But most of the time, he just does menial tasks carrying absurdly larger objects than himself, what a scene."
Basic Attack - "Get Lost" (Cold & Deep tone) : Kalpas reappears In front of a Single Target Enemy and throws/kicks them back based on how humane the Target was (if humanoid throw, kick if huge) dealing 100% Atk as Physical DMG.
Skill - "Pillars of Oblivion" : Kalpas cannot gain a Shield from foreign sources, he stomps the Ground around him, consuming 40% hp of all Allies including himself to erect 4 Molten Pillars of Oblivion for 2 turns.
While each Pillar exists, Allies cannot be inflicted with foreign Debuffs, & gain a Shield excluding him that can block 1000 DMG + 25% of Kalpas max Def, but cannot heal beyond 60% of their Max H.P threshold, and takes 1 DMG when hit despite having a Shield.
For each Pillar that depleted its Shield value(especially when their Turns expire), the DMG accumulated would be redirected to Kalpas, and he would perform "Meet Your Tombstone" (Blast Counter Attack) to the recent enemy that attacked an ally or depleted it, also hitting adjacent targets.
Enhanced Attack - "Meet Your Tombstone": Consumes 15% Grit and deals Physical DMG equal to the sum of 20%-44% of his ATK and 50%ā110% of his Max Def% to a single enemy. In addition deals Physical DMG equal to the sum of 8%ā17.6% of Kalpas' ATK and 20%-44% of his Max Def to adjacent targets.
Ultimate - "Your Last Words?" : "Would you save it?" Activation Cost - Kalpas Having 1 hp.
Kalpas reappears In front of the enemies yet still consumes 60% H.P of all Allies including himself from the shockwave left behind his departure as he emits a Nuclear Meltdown and Transforms into his fiendish ICHOR for 2 turns (Activation of this Ultimate doesn't consume a Turn) dealing AoE Physical DMG based on his Total Break Effect, Def%, & Missing Health, then fixing his Turn in the Action Order to be the Slowest Ally but he would cinematically intercept (mock enemies head on) and absorb all DMG taken by previous turns of Allies as he inflicts 10% lost of max h.p to the Enemy he'll block just for being in contact, while 50% of the DMG mitigated would sustain the Shield value of his Infernal Grit until his finisher.
Voicelines when he intercepts Attacks during his ULT:
"Where are you aiming at?!" "Is this supposed to be a joke?!" "Futile!"
In his Second Turn in the Action Order being his Finisher, he can Summon 4 Pillars of Oblivion, grabbing (also by summoning Infernal chains to latch unto) and breaking each as he can consume them to Attack 6 times, the fifth personally being his right stomp, and the 6th being his left fist.
(Void Archives: "To the Sky People, the Right Hand is deemed as unclean, and only slaves would show it uncover in public.")
Finisher line: "What a waste of breath."
Talent - "Asura of Decimation" : Kalpas cannot be healed during combat except when he attacks an Enemy without Toughness based on 10% of his Total Break Effect.
His Attacks will ignore Weakness Types & Reduces Toughness while delaying the speed of Enemies hit by 20%.
If the Enemies' Toughness is already Broken, he would additionally deal Super Break DMG, and preferably retrigger Bleed or Burn D.o.T based on his Total Break Effect.
When Kalpas HP reaches 1 from any Pillar of Oblivion that depleted, further DMG absorbed would grant him an "Infernal Grit" as bonus Break Effect based on 6% of his Max Def & Shield based on 40% Max H.P lost, 99% healing received instead fortifies his Infernal Grit's Shield value.
Technique - "Kneel Imbeciles" : After using this Technique, it creates a fiery pressure (dimension) around Kalpas that lasts for 20 seconds, and all enemies in this dimension will have their movement speed reduced by 50%, if they are non Elite Enemies, they would be struck by Fear status.
For 3s that open world enemies stayed within, they would enter a Weakness Broken State without engaging Combat(stunned). After entering combat, enemies in the dimension will have their Toughness reduced by 50% and their speed delayed by 20%. Only 1 dimension created by Allies can exist at the same time.
Passives:
"Fallen's Vengeful Hope" - While Grit is Active, Kalpas would gain 50% Bonus Effect Resistance. When Kalpas is alone or an Ally is taken down, he'll gain 160 bonus Speed throughout the Combat/4 Turns.
"Grit of Fervour" - Kalpas converts every 100 Atk & H.P beyond 1600 into bonus Defense. Ally Shields or Enemy Toughness that are reduced also grants him Shield by 10% of his Break Effect before consuming Pillars to build Infernal Grit (be undying at 1hp as excess DMG became Shields)
"Oath of Disputed Regrets" - When there's no Pillars of Oblivion, he'll absorb the next DMG taken of Allies to build up Infernal Grit. This effect will refresh at the start of each of his Turns.
10 Sub Traces: Break Effect%, Def%, Effect Resistance%
Eidolons:
1 "Indifferent Facade of the Guilty" - 2 "In... Humane?" - 3 "Wit's End; Withheld" - 4 "I among, shall Predate Portions of Finality... thus I fell from the Sky?" - 5 "Heartsbane of the Lost Sundered Moth" - 6 "Asura of Decimation" -
Q1: Why is he Physical instead of Fire? A1: The Pressure of the Heat he emits numbs entities that they barely noticed themselves already deforming, unless he's being careful about who are those he doesn't mean to hurt while sane.
Q2: Why Preservation? A2: He does it with the best of his Ability.
Q3: What's the deal with him? A3: My head-canon is that he got thrown into a Portal from Hi3 PrevEra Hershey of Finality Boss Fight leaving an impression that he got bubble-popped after going ZORO(Y.O.L.O) and then contributed the Attrition of Glamoth against the Remnants of the Swarm, from there he became a Self Annihilator but Aha kidnapped him before he lost his shit unlike Nanook's Ascension (Praise Aha, THEY can proudly claim "I can fix it, surely"). He resembles Nanook but is more scarred, he is oddly invisible to him, Aha promised him to be sane, before he can work his way up to heal his scars, he doesn't remember much but would act on impulse based on regrets and habits die hard. He was 6th of Hi3rd's 13 Moths.
Q4: Are you ok? A4: Absolutely n- yes.
Idle Emote 1: Smoke would envelop as he lowered his mask revealing a disfigured monsterficated right side of his face without lips, while the left stayed humane nor some scarlet horns are protruding, and were just as badly scarred, he'll stare at the mask blankly not realising his tears dripping down and evaporating, he'll sighs then wear up his mask again as the smoke enveloping him dissipates.
Idle Emote 2: He'll Earth bend a simple kitchen set up especially a grill, 3 other Team Members would show up and enjoy his grill as he'll just look at them, with mask on, satisfied as he keeps cooking. If we consumed Food from our inventory, and he's in the team, he'll start this idle Emote commenting, "You lot ain't eating properly enough."
His phone alternates between either a NaKYA 3310 or a Parchment appearing like a Small Rune Scripture whose symbols were that of an Elation Cup pouring down on the drawn design of his Mask.

2024.05.15 13:40 Own-Monk272 Alternate Reality
I have not dreamt much in my life because I used to smoke too much. I recently quit and have been having pretty standard dreams.
However, last night, I had a dream unlike Iāve ever had before, as a child or as of late. In this dream I woke up in my bed, looked out the window and did a double take. Then a triple take.
Across the street where the same couple houses used to be was open land, it was all rustic farmland. Then I looked at my own driveway, same thing and it was bigger and matched the rustic theme.
At this moment it hit me.. I no longer live in that house but itās the one I grew up in.. I realized I was in a dream of some sort, and also realized I was dreaming of an alternate reality. I also had full-control of my actions and couldnāt force myself awake.
After this I saw my mother and grandmother, although my grandmother had a different nick-name that I canāt remember. The house looked about the same on the inside..
I ended up leaving to explore and this is when I woke up. The second I left longer then usual my driveway.
I wanted to ask if anyone else has had a dream like this? Where it was an alternate reality, they recognized this fact in the dream, and had full control in the dream, and couldnāt force themselves awake if they wanted to.
I usually forget about dreams quickly, but this one will be on my mind for a while. I donāt think I can forget looking out my window and doing a triple-take and realizing this is not my street, and not my reality š

2024.05.15 12:05 RelationOtherwise834 Industrial Damper
| Introduction The Industrial dampers emerges as the silent main character amidst the intricate coordination of air movement within ducts, chimneys, and diverse air-handling systems. Have you ever contemplated the intricate variations in ventilation or the mechanisms by which your room sustains its optimal temperature in the face of external challenges? In pursuit of understanding their critical function in preserving stability and comfort, letās delve into the realm of industrial dampers by removing their external sections. Industrial Dampers 1. Understanding Dampers Imagine oneself within a chamber, relishing in the finest convenience of temperature regulation. Unidentified to you, a damper is operating inconspicuously to regulate the airflow and preserve this comfortable environment. Therefore, what is a damper exactly? In essence, it comprises a valve or plate that is deliberately positioned within air-handling apparatus, ducts, chimneys, or ducts to regulate the airflow. 2. Types of Industrial Dampers Dampers arenāt just simple valves; theyāre adaptable tools, crafted to meet diverse requirements. Manual dampers offer a hands-on approach, allowing adjustments with a simple turn of a handle. However, the innovation doesnāt stop there. Enter automatic dampers, equipped with electric or pneumatic motors, ensuring continuous airflow regulation. Automating Comfort: The Magic of Automatic Industrial Dampers Imagine a world where your roomās temperature adjusts seamlessly, without any manual intervention. Automatic dampers make this a reality, effortlessly fine-tuning airflow to maintain ideal conditions. Itās a futuristic marvel that simplifies life and enhances comfort, showcasing the remarkable capabilities of modern technology in the realm of air control. 3. Applications of Industrial Dampers Now, letās talk applications. Ever noticed how chimneys have dampers to keep unwelcome guests like birds and pesky weather elements at bay? These dampers also play a crucial role in controlling the rate of combustion, ensuring your cozy fireplace experience doesnāt turn into a smoke-filled nightmare. But itās not just about fireplaces and chimneys. Dampers are the crucial part of centralized air conditioning systems too. They can isolate unused rooms to save energy or regulate airflow for room-by-room temperature control. Itās like having your own personal climate butler ensuring every corner of your space is just the way you like it. Letās Explore more types of Industrial dampers - Multi-Blade Control Dampers:
Multi-blade control dampers, also known as rectangular or multi-blade louver dampers, come in two varieties based on blade action. -Parallel Blade Action: All blades open and close at the same angle and direction. -Opposed Blade Action: Adjacent blades rotate in opposite directions. - Single Blade Dampers:
Single blade dampers, known as butterfly or wafer dampers, are versatile and can be round, square, or rectangular. -They may feature single thickness blades or a double skin airfoil design. -Often, they provide a cost-efficient alternative to pricier valves. - Commercial and Industrial Backdraft Dampers:
Also called gravity dampers, backdraft dampers are vital in light, medium, and heavy-duty industrial and HVAC applications. -These Industrial dampers allow airflow in one direction while preventing reverse flow, crucial for maintaining system integrity. -Commonly installed on fans to prevent backspin caused by back pressure. - Face and Bypass Dampers:
-Face and bypass dampers, also known as diverter or tee dampers, serve specialized functions. -They redirect high-temperature gases, often from turbines, to recover heat efficiently. -Typically part of a dual damper setup, these dampers are integral components in tee-pipe configurations. - Inlet Vane Dampers:
Inlet vane dampers, also referred to as inlet vane controls (IVC dampers) or variable inlet vanes (VIV dampers), control airflow and pressure from the inlet side of fans or blowers. -Mounted directly to the fan inlet, they offer both shut-off and control capabilities by rotating to pre-spin the entering air. -These round dampers ensure dependable operation and cost savings for fan or blower operations. - Bubble Tight and Guillotine Dampers:
Isolation dampers are categorized into bubble tight and guillotine dampers, purchasable for both round and rectangular duct systems. -High-end bubble tight dampers provide the most reliable seals, preventing leakage when closed. -Guillotine damper models, equipped with seal air fans, achieve zero leakage and minimal pressure drop, primarily used for ductwork isolation and shut-off during maintenance. Industrial dampers, in their various forms, uphold system efficiency, reliability, and safety across a spectrum of applications, ensuring optimal performance and control in diverse industrial and HVAC environments. Safety First Safety is paramount and should never be taken lightly. Failing to open a damper before lighting a fireplace can lead to serious consequences, such as smoke-filled rooms or even a house fire. Itās crucial to always check the condition of dampers before starting any fire. Ensuring that dampers are properly open helps prevent potential hazards and ensures a safer environment for everyone. Always prioritize safety by double-checking the status of dampers before igniting flames, mitigating the risk of accidents or damage. Conclusion In the grand tapestry of HVAC systems and industrial setups, industrial dampers may seem like minor players, but their role is anything but insignificant. From maintaining comfort to ensuring safety, these unassuming valves silently orchestrate the airflow, making our lives a little more comfortable and a lot safer. So, the next time you adjust your room temperature or light up your fireplace, take a moment to appreciate the humble damper ā the unsung hero of air control. 2024.05.15 12:01 Willing-Ad7325 My brain is fucked (SA,DA, violence, suicide) I just want to be told I'm not stupid that my life wasn't my fault
When I was young around grade 1, I had this friend in my street, I can't remember much of the time I spent with this guy but I can remember him hurting me like hitting me and shit when I didn't do what he wanted. He smacked my knee with a wrench once. I just fell to the ground. We were decent friends until I told him that I wanted to be girl, I remember him telling me how to do certain things to men. (Seems like he was a victim too). Anyway, throughout my childhood my mother was pretty abusive, she was dealing with psychosis and paranoid delusions, she coped with alcohol and taking it out on dad and I, we would be kicked out, he would be hit manipulated screamed at all the sorts. Anyway it got too much for her one day and she decided to try and smother Me, she then attempted suicide. (I don't remember how it ended I just remember waking up on my bed)
All throughout primary/highschool, I would let people use me. I had very little back bone for myself, I think I was half trying to figure out things that had happened. One time when I had to leave home for a bit cause dad was being violent the persons whos house I was staying at made me touch him in exchange for the place.
I had this friend, he stayed over one night. I think it was one of our birthdays (btw I've had very mixed gendered friends, all very close) Anyway, we were drinking and smoking and eventually he started to ask me if I wanted to do things. I said no, repeatedly. He just kepted asking and was acting all bummed I just felt like shit, I got more drunk and just said yeah sure. The next thing I remember I was bent over my bed, my god it was horrible, it's just flashes of pain and crying and asking him to stop before I moved and pushed him away. I can't remember how the night ended but the next morning was so horrible, I bled from it all. In the future I wasn't so resistant, he would just make me feel bad, I would let him do whatever, the feeling of bits of him left inside me, makes me want to die all by it self. I felt so disgusting I feel so disgusting
Anyway, later on I had gotten into a relationship with this girl. We were together from the ages 17-20 (She like everyone else in my life knew who I was) She knew that sex was horrible for me, I still put out for her when I could. But when I couldn't, she didn't care, she would tell me I'm responsible for her mental decline and things. So I would just give in, most of the time I would just give her oral I preferred this. Sometimes though she wanted to touch me, i would protest and offer alternatives but she didn't care she would just start touching me, eventually she started to insert her fingers and I would literally have tears I my eyes saying no and she'd just keep going if not harder when I said to stop.
I just, fucking hate myself so much, I can't get it out of my head that I did this shit to myself. I feel so disconnected from it all, like the pain and emotions are there but it's just like watching a movie. I feel so disgusting, on edge I'm always In fight or flight, I'm tired I just want to die most of the time.
I just, idk, I still consider these people friends. I can't convince my brain that this was fucked. Like do I just not care and move on? Not talking with em about it or what idk I'm lost I just wanna cry
Idc if the main account causes problems, I just need my possible reasons heard

2024.05.15 11:27 -naked-all-the-time- Overthinking everything - anxiety or OCD?
[TW]: insects, SH I woke up two days ago with two itchy bites on my ankle, and it's all been a whirlwind from there. I've pretty much convinced myself that I have bedbugs living in my bed, based on the following:
- The two bites I've described, plus some other skin irregularities/itchy patches (the latter may be imagined) I've noticed on my body.
- A blood patch I found on my bedsheets.
- Something I found on the floor, which I took to be a molted bed bug shell.
Now, from a rational perspective I know I'm overreacting completely. And here's why:
- After discovering the bites, I found a mosquito in my room. Though the bites don't look like other mosquito bites I get and were somewhere that I assumed was covered by bedding while I slept. But it's still probably the mosquito, and if not, I did sit the night before in my friend's car, who recently got a dog. It's possible they could be flea bites.
- The blood patch looked fairly old, and by Googling it seems bed bug blood patches would be smaller and darker. It's also possible either my girlfriend or I had a spot/pimple that bled in our sleep - we both have some on our back.
- That "shell" I found was the same colour as a bed bug, but apparently their molted shells are translucent, and this one lacked any "bug parts" (antennae, legs) and had a different texture than I would expect. Could just as easily have been a seed from a bread loaf.
Nevertheless here I am tearing up my mind about bedbugs, scrutinising my mattress constantly, and washing my clothes and sheets at 60Ā° even though I usually do 40Ā° because it's gentler. The
bedbugs subreddit does not help because everyone over there seems as anxious as me, and every "is this a bed bug/shell/egg" post gets a few yes responses despite a real diversity in the pictures posted. The thing with bed bugs is they're practically unfalsifiable: they're good at hiding, so you don't see them, their bites vary from person to person, and they can go for long periods without feeding.
Like I said, I likely
don't have bedbugs. The fear stems from a budget hotel my friend booked us in to two weeks ago, which wasn't the cleanest. But I did check the mattresses there, and they seemed to pass the test. My friend actually moved on to a second hotel after I went home that did have bed bugs, and he said it was immediately noticeable. I visited India last year, and when my friend jokingly talked about bringing bedbugs home on the return flight (we didn't encounter any) the thought played on my mind for a couple weeks, but this time is more intense.
The only reprieve I get from worrying about them is when I'm distracted, like at work. I did a pretty intense yoga session yesterday and didn't think about it once, but as soon as we brought the session to a close with a meditation, they were back all over my mind.
I also know that, worse case scenario, if I did have them, I'd have to call an exterminator and be out ā¬2000, which would be utterly shit but wouldn't kill me. It's not like the bugs can kill me or even hurt me either. I thought about calling an inspector, but I don't want to spend all that money (and probably anger my landlord) just for reassurance.
I've always been an overthinker and have struggled with anxiety throughout my life. In the past year or two, though, I've noticed some more intrusive thoughts:
- My ex and I had a place last year and she had a cat. One day when I was leaving for work I didn't pull the door all the way closed. My ex noticed and chewed me out (another story) because it was an indoor cat. But for months afterwards this led me to coming back to the house after leaving for work (sometimes already after walking 10 minutes), coming home early, or staying home completely. At this time I also had a depressive period and my work suffered for a few months as a result.
- After my breakup when I moved into my new place, I put a hanging plant attachment into the roof and couldn't shake the feeling I'd hit a gas line, even after my Dad (a tradesman) told me they were unlikely to be in that part of the ceiling. I left on a work trip abroad the same day and for the first day away all I thought about was returning to a blown-up apartment. I had a similar feeling when my fridge gas pipe ruptured - I thought I was gonna die in my sleep and ventilated my flat for days.
- I'm terrified of fire, always have been, but lately I've been unplugging things every time I leave my office because I'm afraid I'll burn the whole place down. I recently quit smoking with the help of an e-cigarette, but for the first week or two I had it I was often terrified it would explode in my pocket.
- I had an unexplainable pain in my nether regions for a few months that took A LONG TIME to diagnose (turned out to be a muscle problem). But I was constantly anxious about testicular torsion and I wondered why doctors/urologists didn't care. At one point I remember telling myself "I think you want testicular torsion just so you know you're right."
- When I leave my house I check my balcony door is locked and that the stove is turned off, usually only once, maybe twice. Regarding unplugging things in work, I've once sent my colleague to check something in my office after I left, under false pretenses, in the hope that if something bad had happened (a fire) they would notice and catch it in time.
- I have - very, very rarely, probably less than 5 times in my life - been consumed momentarily by thoughts of self-harm. Mostly it's fleeting like the intrusive thought I guess everyone gets occasionally, just pushing your brain to consider the worst. However, twice - once after trying SSRIs for my depressive episode and again at random more recently - I had thoughts of slitting my wrists that scared the fuck out of me and sat with me for a good few hours.
I've been in therapy before for anxiety but stopped for a while because my therapist's son got really sick and stopped all sessions. When I look at all this, written out, I'm honestly starting to convince myself that the more likely thing going on here is that I have undiagnosed mild OCD.
However, these thoughts don't normally take over my whole day - I can usually get away from them if I'm distracted, and most of the time they don't bother me unrelentingly, just mildly. Also, besides the unplugging of electronics and checking of locks - which I do not do universally - I don't really think I have any compulsions. These are things I would expect if I had diagnosable OCD, though I don't know much about the condition or the spectrum it exists within.
What are your thoughts? Does it sound like anxiety or OCD experience? I'm planning to go back to therapy next month if I can (it's hard to get appointments where I live, especially in my native language), but do you have any tips for dealing with such thoughts by myself too?
Many thanks for taking the time to read.

2024.05.15 11:03 Competitive_Gur_7744 Industrial dampers a guide for the curious
| The Industrial dampers emerges as the silent main character amidst the intricate coordination of air movement within ducts, chimneys, and diverse air-handling systems.
-They may feature single thickness blades or a double skin air foil design. -Often, they provide a cost-efficient alternative to pricier valves. - Commercial and Industrial Back-draft Dampers:
So, the next time you adjust your room temperature or light up your fireplace, take a moment to appreciate the humble damper ā the unsung hero of air control. submitted by Competitive_Gur_7744 to u/Competitive_Gur_7744 [link] [comments] |
2024.05.15 08:57 decoparts Putting my money where my mouth is- Exercising Options!
I put a lot of thought into this today.
I had a $17 strike Call for late June that I bought on a whim back when we were in the $10 range.
Today, that $17 option contract was getting mighty valuable. I've played a bit at flipping contracts for profit (or in my case mostly loss)
I put some serious thought into what to do with it- A nice payout today? Hodl and hope it goes higher?
Then I started thinking about what options really mean. Literally, they are a contract that says "You have to sell me these 100 shares at the named price."
I started to wonder- What would I feel a month or two from now if I had the chance to buy 100 shares at $17? Kinda thinking I'd be kicking myself if I passed it up.
Then I started to think about my alternatives and how it would effect the (presumably) Hedgie who sold the Call contract.
Hold until closer to expiration? They'd be sweating, but so would I.
Sell it and take the profit? Nice, but who's buying? Good chance it's a Hedgie buying it back so they can cancel out their obligation to deliver in a poof of fuckery.
Here's the rub- Was that call backed up with real shares? If so, was the Hedgie who sold it actually expecting to have to deliver? If not, how fucked are they now? How VERY fucked are they if I DRS those shares once they hit my account?
Long story short, I decided to put my money where my mouth was, and transferred over the money to exercise the call. It required some scraping together on my part, but it was money I could (just barely) afford to lose. But I think I'll be glad I bought 100 more bricks at that price in the long run, and it brings my shriveled little heart great joy to imagine I totally pissed in some Hedgie's cereal by making them deliver.
Not financial advice, I fling poop and have trouble grooming myself. But if you have in-the-money calls that you are holding, give some thought to what that actually means. Never mind Gamma Ramp and cancelling out with matched puts or whatever other smoke and mirrors the suits can use to obfuscate. Set aside for a minute that the contract can be sold for profit. That Call contract at the end of the day means that a Hedgie is obligated to deliver 100 real shares into your grubby little mitts, which can easily turn into deliciously purple circles. Do with this revelation what you will.

2024.05.15 08:10 eagle2120 [Very Long] Marathon, Angela, and Eragon Connections. Fractalverse and Murtagh Spoilers
I've been meaning to make this post for a while but life kept getting in the way.
There is a bunch of new (well, new to me) stuff I've discovered over the last few weeks, and wanted to share my thoughts with you.
Let's start with the "prequel" (although never canonically confirmed) to the Marathon series was a game called Pathways to Darkness. The backstory for this game is:
Sixty-four million years ago, a large extra-terrestrial object struck the Earth in what would later be called the Yucatan Peninsula, in south eastern Mexico. The dust and rock thrown up by the resulting explosion caused enormous climactic changes in the ensuing years, and many of the Earth's species became extinct during the long winter that followed.
The object itself was buried thousands of feet below ground, its nearly two kilometer length remarkably intact. It remained there, motionless, for thousands of years before it finally began to stir-- and to dream.
Hmm. Buried below ground. Finally beginning to stir and dream. Who does that sound like?
Let's keep going.
The heat of impact liquefied the rock around it, which later cooled and encased the dead god's huge body far below ground. As it began to dream, it wrought unintentional changes in its environment. Locked deep beneath the Earth, strange and unbelievable things faded in and out of reality. Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
As it began to dream, it wrought unintentional changes in its environment.. Locked deep beneath the Earth, strange and unbelievable things faded in and out of reality.
Like Fingerrats? Or like Spider-wolves?
Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
Caverns and landscapes. I want to expand this point here for a bit because it's also mirrored across Alagaesia.
Let's start with Helgrind.
For any FV enjoyers, I've previously speculated that Helgrind is a reliquary, or a previously living being that was transformed (a la Ctein).
But the curious thing here is the timeline of Helgrind and it's tunnel system, taken with the above context.
Q: Assuming it wasn't built by the Ra'zac themselves, was the lair inside Helgrind purpose-built for the Ra'zac and Lethrblaka, or did they appropriate it some time after it was built? If it wasn't built for them, what was its original purpose?
A: Partially natural formations (linked to tunnels elsewhere in Alagaƫsia), partly expanded by the priests of Helgrind and Galbatorix himself.
But... The Ra'Zac didn't inhabit Helgrind until at least after the Humans came over. So these tunnels underneath Helgrind existed before the Ra'Zac, or Galbatorix ever set foot on Alagaesia. Which, I don't know about you, but a massive network of tunnels does not smell entirely natural to me.
So.. where else are there "natural" formations that link to other tunnels elsewhere in Alagaesia?
We've seen these "natural" formations in Vroengard:
Q: The deeps under Vroengard, were they created by the riders or was it a previous system of caverns that they repurposed?
A: Previous system. I mean, there's been work done on them, but... 'It looks similar, parts of it feel similar to the caverns that we encountered in this book. They both have that hole in the cave which goes deeper, with something in the hole that's not clearly defined.' Yeah.
And we've seen similar depictions in the Beors, and Nal Gorgoth. So from the Beors to Vroengard, "natural" tunnels exist underground. I don't buy that they are entirely natural.
Given the context of the Marathon game above:
Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
I think these tunnels came from Azlagur.
Let's switch gears here, I want to talk about another archaeological mystery in the world of Eragon - El-Harim.
I believe El-Harim was heavily influenced by the (not canon confirmed, but implied) prequel to the Marathon games, the
Pathways into Darkness Pathways casts the player as a member of a US Army Special Forces team sent on a mission to the YucatƔn Peninsula. On May 5, 1994, a diplomat from the alien race known as the Jjaro appeared to the President of the United States and informed him that on May 13, an ancient godlike being sleeping beneath a pyramid would awaken and destroy the Earth. The only way to prevent this catastrophe is to prevent the god from awakening. The eight-man Special Forces team carries a nuclear weapon, with the goal of entering the ancient pyramid, descending to the bottom level where the god sleeps, and activating the bomb to stun the god and bury it under tons of rock.
Getting into a bit more of the backstory:
Only during the last few centuries has the god begun to effect changes on the surface of the Earth. Grotesque creatures have been sighted deep in the trackless forest of the Yucatan, and strange rumors of an ancient pyramid-- which is neither Aztec nor Mayan-- in the same area have been circulating in the archaeological community since the early 1930's.
Pyramid, eh? There are two different options here I can think of that equate.
The extended FWW Map First, in the extended map from FWW, we can see a Pyramid-esque shape - Different color, different slope, etc.
Or, second (and probably more likely), it could be El-Harim:
It is a very bad place. Itās a place where some bad things happened at one point and itās not a good place to go walking around. I donāt want to get into it too much more because again, itās a good possibility for another story and I want to keep thinking about it a bit more. It is in Alagaesia and weāve actually been close to the location.
Many speculate that the below vision from Eragon in Brisingr, which was never explained in the main cycle, is of El-Harim:
And he rested, and visions beset him of a circular stone city that stood in the center of an endless plain and of a small girl who wandered among the narrow, winding alleys within and who sang a haunting melody (A Feast with Friends, Brisingr).
If this vision IS El-Harim , it's super significant because of these two descriptors:
circular stone city
narrow, winding alleys
Fractals. The city itself is a fractal, like Nidus for any FV enjoyers.
The narrow winding alleys are significant because of the descriptors of the Vanished/Grey folk:
The spaces between the structures were narrower than the humans preferred; the proportions were taller, thinner, which matched the images she had seed of the Vanished...
The ancient outline of the city was - as she suspected - a fractal, and the shape of it contained meaning.... At the nexus of the apttern, where it coiled in on itslef like a nautilus shell" (Shards, TSIASOS).
Narrow. Circular (Nautilus shell). Winding. Fractal.
Whatever this city is, El-Harim or otherwise, it is/was a grey folk/vanished city.
And given the quotes from above - "Its a place where some bad things happened at one point", and "dangerous, creeping, ancient, evil thing" - My guess is that the event that caused the Grey Folk to bind the AL to magic happened here, in El-Harim.
Alright, moving along.
Let's talk about the Az and the God. There are a few parallels I've talked around, but the BIG link between the two are Dreams. This is especially important because of the release of the world map recently.
We are the devotees of Azlagur, the Devourer. Azlagur the Firstborn. Azlagur the Dreamer. He who sleeps and whose sleeping mind weaves the warp and weft of the waking world. But the sleep grows restless" (Obliteration, Murtagh).
Versus
As it began to dream, it wrought unintentional changes in its environment. Locked deep beneath the Earth, strange and unbelievable things faded in and out of reality. Vast caverns and landscapes bubbled to life within the rock, populated by horrible manifestations of the dead god's dream.
I could write a whole post about the parallels between the two and their linkage to dreams, but I'll cut it short here for now to save room to dig in to other areas. Specifically, the Dreams connection is especially important because of the relase of the world map recently - I have another post
here that gets into more detail, but the translations from the
World Map in the middle translate to:
where dreams and dragons dwell
Dreams (!) and Dragons.
Combine that with the
Etymology of the words:
Alagaƫsia ala = land gaƫsia = rich/fertile
Alalƫa ala = land lƫa = a beautiful dream
Elƫa = the dream itself
So the planet, named Elea, translates to "The Dream Itself". Very interesting.
This is even more significant when you take into account
this tweet chain from Chris,
a bit earlier in March Darn it. Just invented a name in the ancient language. Googled it to make sure no one else had used it ... only to discover that I had used it in an earlier book. Lol.
Can we ask what name?
Edurna
I believe the name was a potential candidate for the name of the planet of Alagaesia, which is important because of the etymology of THAT name (All credit to Zora for digging this one up).
Edurna sounds awfully like Adurna and Edur
Adurna meaning water and Edur being a prominence
Prominence. And Water. You know what that sounds like to me? Plaintive Verge. Just food for thought.
Second-to-last Az connection I want to cover: Hunger.
Whirling darkness swallowed him, and at the center of it... lay a formless horror - ancient and evil and from which emanated a constant merciless hunger (Dreams and Portents).
Versus a
quote about the cosmic entity in Marathon:
Now I fear what that weapon has unleashed will destroy us. I once boasted to be able to count the atoms in a cloud, to understand them all, predict them, and so did I predict you, but this new chaos is entirely terrible, mindless, obeying rules that I don't comprehend. And it is hungry.
Now, the last piece of Azlagur-related lore I want to cover here is the "Black Sun".
In all of the visions, a Black Sun precipitates Azlagur's rise.
"A black sun rimmed by black flame hung against a darkling sky... The beast rose rampant against the black sun - A wingless dragon, apocalyptic in size, terrifying in presence. Destroyer of hope, eater of light"
Before getting into the Black Sun a bit more, there's an additional connection here I want to touch on - usage of the word
rampant in connection with Azlagur.
In Marathon, Rampancy is the enhanced self-awareness of a computer AI, causing a progression towards greater mental abilities and destructive impulses. The destructive impulses, however, are primarily caused by being threatened or harassed. There are three main stages, as well as a fourth and final stage that is rarely achieved, to rampancy, named by the primary attitude of the AI during those times: Melancholia, Anger, Jealousy, and Meta-Stability.
There are some overlaps with what we see from the Maw.
And Melancholia.. that's an interesting word. Especially when taken into context the
meaning of the name:
A melancholy dream of great beauty.
Melancholy.. Dream... The pieces of the puzzle are coming together. And Rampant...
Chris also uses that exact same verbiage when discussing a
deleted scene from TSIASOS:
Q: I just finished reading To Sleep in a Sea of Stars and I have to know: it sounds like the Wranaui fought the corrupted during the Sundering but if that's true and it happened almost 300 years prior.... Who created the old corrupted? I've been questioning this for days!
A: That was actually in material cut by editors (some of the dream memories). Another Seed/Idealis was damaged and, when the Old Ones tried to separate it from its host, the xeno went rampant.
The xeno went rampant. Very interesting.
Alrighty, I keep getting distracted, back to the black sun.
The reason the Black Sun is important is because it always precipitates Azlagur's rise, throughout several of Murtahgh's visions. In each of them, there is a Black sun.
So, by this, we can extrapolate that the sun needs to be Black in order for Azlagur to rise (which is hinted at at the "Day of Black Sun" celebrations near the end of the book).
But... what does it actually mean?
There is a parallel in Marathon, their weapon:
The trih xeem (also "tri xeem") is an extremely powerful weapon that can be used to force a star into early nova... it was originally conceived and built by the Jjaro [The Old Ones/Vanished equivalent]. Much of the Marathon Infinity story revolves around preventing the Pfhor from using the tri xeem and inadvertently releasing a W'rkncacnter that is supposedly trapped within the Lh'owon sun.
So, the story of the last Marathon games revolves around preventing the usage of the weapon to release the cosmic-level baddie trapped in the sun. So, effectively, the antagonist is imprisoned by the sun.
But.. how does that translate to Azlagur and Murtagh?
The Black Sun requirement for Azlagur's rise could be construed as "imprisonment" by the sun; Azlagur cannot escape until the sun is turned Black. But it only really starts to come together when you piece together these pictures.
First,
early concept art for the Fractalverse You see the black orb, heading directly for the glowing star? Sounds pretty similar.
But that's not the smoking gun; look at the depiction of the black orb in the concept art, and compare it to
the trih xeem, the weapon in Marathon.
A black orb with a trail heading directly for the sun. Almost an exact match.
OK.. so I get that it has some relevence in fractalverse, but how does it translate to Eragon?
Well, because of the Beors. Specifically, a picture CHRIS HIMSELF posted about the Beors.
Here I propose that THIS black orb, at the top of the Beors (which, suspiciously, no one has traveled to) houses the black weapon. After all, the depiction is quite similar - A large, circular, black orb. Looks pretty similar to the other pictures.
And given the above context that Azlagur can only rise with a "Black Sun", the pieces all start to fit together. It's not perfect, but there are definitely a lot of overlaps.
Alright. I've been waiting for this one. The last piece. Let's talk about
Angela.
Q: Will we get Angela lore? I feel like she could have killed Galbatorix and just didn't feel like it.
A: For those who don't know Angela is based on my sister Angela, because she breaks the fourth wall to a degree she has. Not only does she have plot armor, she knows she's in a story and can break the story itself. So, yes, she could have killed Galbatorix, but that would have made for a very bad story. That said, I do have an entire book planned around Angela, and it's very high on my list of books to write because it takes place before some of these other big stories I want to write. And that's also the difficult thing. I have my big storylines, and then I have a couple of one off side books I want to write, and it's just a question of time, energy and effort.
She knows she's in a story, and she can break the story.
Based on that, and several other descriptions I will get into in a bit, I think her story is directly related to the
Marathon Infinity game.
Marathon Infinity begins as the Pfhor destroy Lh'owon using a Jjaro-derived doomsday weapon known as the Trih Xeem or "early nova". Unfortunately, the weapon also releases a powerful chaotic being: The Wārkncacnter, which threatens to destroy the entire galaxy. Because of the Wārkncacnter's chaos or by means of some Jjaro tech of his own, the player is transported back and forward in time, finding himself jumping between timelines and fighting for various sides in a desperate attempt to prevent the chaotic being's release.
and
In Marathon Infinity, a W'rkncacnter is imprisoned in the sun of planet Lh'owon. It is theorized by some that the W'rkncacnter's powerfully chaotic nature may be responsible for the jumps between realities seen in the game. When the Pfhor use a trih xeem device to send the star into early nova, the creature is released, to the horror and destruction of the Pfhor.
Angela is the Eragon-equivalent of the player.
She can transport back and forward in time, jumping between timelines, and fighting to prevent the chaotic being's (Azlagur's) release. Let's dive in.
First:
Q: Is it canon that Angela the Herbalist is a Time Lord and did she make a cameo in To Sleep in a Sea of Stars?
A: Is Angela the Herbalist is a Time Lord? That would be copyright infringement, so I'm going to say "no comment", but she is in To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. And there is a canon reason for this. And you should have no problem spotting who she is in that book.
So there's a canon reason she's in the book. Interesting. When you take that into context with the
next bit Q: On your last AMA on reddit, someone asked if any fan had guessed the identity and history of Angela correctly. You said nobody has guessed correctly and there's not enough information in the books to do so. That puts every fan theory out there on her wrong, correct? She's not the soothsayer, a time lord, grey folk, etc, correct?
A: Angela: Some of the fan theories have gotten parts of her history and identity correct. However, there's a HUGE aspect to her nature that no one has guessed (or least, not in a non-joking way). And no, I don't mean her being a Time Lord.
So there's a huge aspect to her nature that no one has guessed (at least at the time of writing). She's self-aware, knows she's in a story, and can jump around in time. And, similar to the Marathon games, it appears like only she knows that she's in a story.
So, based on the Marathon inspiration, we can guess that she is trying to accomplish the same thing - To prevent the release of the cosmic-level villain. We know that she has some kind of
relationship with the Draumar:
In Murtagh, itās revealed that Bachel and āUluthrekā (Mooneater, Angelaās given Urgal name) met with Bachel explicitly going out to confront her (a courtesy not even offered to a Rider like Murtagh)
So, by extension, she has some kind of connection to Azlagur. This is supported by other circumstantial evidence
in FWW as well:
Since we know that the Dream Well in Mani's Caves is similar to the Well in Nal Gorgoth I can assume that Angela is revealing the existence of the Draumar to Elva there? I feel certainly feel as if you're setting up her for something in the future series.
Heh. Good Catch.
So, she is clearly working with Elva to do something related to the Dream Wells, and she also previously confronted Bachel, many years ago. So throughout multiple years across the WoE, she is connected to Azlagur and the Draumar; her story clearly revolves around them/Azlagur, somehow.
Putting the above pieces together, my guess is that she is jumping around in different timelines, trying to manipulate actions of the past to prevent the rise of Azlagur. Just like the player character in Marathon. There's another piece of circumstantial evidence to support this assertion as well.
In Marathon Infinity:
After multiple "jumps," the player (seemingly the only one who realizes he is being transported between possible realities)
Versus Angela:
As hours passed, the stars turned above, night chill drew the heat from my body, and I fell into a curious trance, not asleep but not fully awake... The world altered" (On the Nature of Stars, FWW).
I believe this world "Altering" was the first time she experienced an alternate timeline, without knowing what it was at the time.
We've also seen her create "Doorways" as well - Although it's not clear if this is fast traveling (a la a Torque Gate), or truly opening a path to another timeline.
In Eldest:
"As they landed, he noticed a patch of white on a small hill nearby. The patch wavered strangely in the dark, like a floating candle, then resolved into Angela, who was wearing a pale wool tunic" (A Sorceress, a Snake, and a Scroll).
and then later, more concretely:
"I traced a line on the wall, reached out, and opened a door that wasn't there. ON the other side - nighttime, a beach by a black ocean lit only by stars, so many, many stars, more than there should be. Of course, I would not take Elva to my home, not yet. But this was a waypoint, a place to build and learn and grow... She stared into the gap, the impossible portal" (On the Nature of Stars, FWW).
Still, as always with Angela, so many questions.
Alright, we've reached an ungodly wordcount, so I'll call it here. There are still more connections I'm uncovering between the two series (such as the potential connection between the Gedway Ignasia and the "warning" sensation from Marathon), so I might make a follow-up post in the future with everything else I uncover.
As always, thanks for reading! Let me know what you think in the comments, or if you've found any other connections between the two.

2024.05.15 06:02 ejrole8 Bone-in Skin-on Chicken thighs are great on a budget for more than just meat!
Making this post because I had a less-than resouceful friend buy herself the boneless, skinless chicken thighs for way more than she shouldāve. These tips also work for different cuts of chicken with skin and bones (though with drumsticks I usually just cook them in soup as-is).
Yes, the ones with skin on and bones included are cheaper by weight than the alternative, but if youāve been just throwing the skin and bones away, stop! I have some budget friendly tips for you.
1) Collect the skin and bones and put them in separate gallon-sized freezer bags. You will be adding to them as you get more chicken. For the skin, keep adding chicken skins and fat to them. For the bag with the bones, you will also want to add veggie scraps such as the skins of onions, garlic, carrots, ginger, and celery. There are others you can add, but if you arenāt familiar with cooking times and qualities of vegetables yet, Iād try to just stick with those. Again, itās better to use organic veggies or ones sourced from someone you know uses less pesticides when growing as youāre using the skins for this.
2) when you have a good amount of skins(like 3/4lbs or more), make shmaltz (rendered chicken fat). Itās basically the Jewish alternative to lard and tallow. Itās healthier than most cooking oils aside from avocado, olive, and coconut. It has a high smoke point so you can use it to fry, roast, bake, or whatever it is you do with your cooking oils. Because it is animal based, the chemical structure is easier to digest. You might want to steer clear if you have heart problems, though. I used a recipe from Serious Eats which goes like this:
- heat up a saucepan with about a cup of water over medium high heat and put in the chicken skins + fat, stirring occasionally until it starts to boil.
- turn heat down to medium low and continue to stir occasionally until the chicken bits start to turn brown and crispy and the water is evaporated (about 50 minutes). Some people like to add chopped onions around the end for extra flavor.
- filter with a sieve/muslin cloth over a heatproof container. If left in an airtight container in the fridge, sources say you can store from a week until a few months, depending on how secure and refined your shmaltz is after rendering. If you want, you can also snack on the chicken bits as a crispy snack!
3) When you eventually collect enough bones and scraps to fill the ziplock bag, you can make bone broth (or stock, for the anti-hippies). I sometimes add pork bones if I get any with my meat. I make mine in an instant pot so Iām going to use that recipe.
- Dump contents of stock bag into instant pot and cover with water (filtered is best). You can also add aromatics like bay leaf and peppercorns in, though some people like to drink it like a tea, so you could omit.
- Set to high pressure for 1.5 hours. Natural release (just donāt touch it til the pressure indicator falls down).
- Filter with a sieve to a separate container and not your sink! You can freeze portions for later. Salt to taste.
Bone broth(stock) is really good for your bones and adds a really nice flavor to whatever you use it for. Consider using it instead of store-bought stock or Better than Bouillon. You can use it for a healthy egg-drop soup. Supposedly some people use it in smoothies, but personally thatās not for me!
I like to get the crunchier packs of chicken when I can afford to (think free-range, organic, locally sourced), and if you have the means to, you should too since you can utilize all parts of the cut.

2024.05.15 05:18 HMWT Heat Recovery Ventilator (Carrier HRVXXLHB1250) questionsQ
Hello, my HVAC system has an HRV (CarrieBryant model HRVXXLHB1250). I have a few questions that I hope to find answers for.
From looking at previous threads, my understanding is that HRVs are primarily for heat recovery and thus used in cold climates during the winter while ERVs are for heating and cooling recovery.
The description of our unit includes:
- Designed to minimize heating energy loss while bringing fresh air into home and exiting stale air year round
- Uses the outgoing air's heat energy to pre-condition air
- Best used in climates where the winter is cold with less humid summers
We are in a region with cold winters and hot, dry summers. We have a heat pump that also serves as an A/C unit.
Questions:
- should we actually be running the HRV during the summer when A/C is on? Will it cool the hot fresh air, or will it only bring in filtered outside air?
- is it reasonable to turn off the HRV during wildfire smoke events to avoid having smoky air being brought into the home? I know the unit has a filter, but based on some testing last year it seems that temporarily turning it off does help with the air quality.
- we don't have a remote control unit for the HRV; per the manual it's an optional add-on. Any idea what it would cost to retrofit? The unit itself has a button to select one of three modes (off, low speed, high speed)
- if turning the unit off during smoke events is reasonable, can we just use a remote-controllable smart plug to turn off the power? Alternatively I have been thinking of using a remote-controllable button pusher gadget (
similar to this one) to either just manually control it without climbing on a ladder or even integrate it into a smart home solution (automatically turn it off if AQ outside or in the house passes a threshold).
Thanks for any advice you may have.

2024.05.15 04:25 monashchad Smoking neighbors in a smoke-free apartment
[Edit: we live in metro Atlanta, GA]
Our family, which includes a toddler less than a year old, live in an apartment complex that has a smoke-free policy. This is in the contracts and residents that violate this policy are to be evicted.
Now, recently I've noticed very strong cigarette smell pervading our unit, and I think I know who is the culprit. I tried letting the apartment management team know, but they've not been getting back to me for over a week.
If the management team continues to ignore my concern, or takes a weak action (e.g., just sends a reminder around, rather than actively investigating the issue), what are my options? Should I just keep requesting that they take a firm action, or should I talk to the neighbors directly?
I really don't want to be confrontational or cause a trouble, out of the concern for the safety of my little one. But neither do I just want to suck it up and carry on with life, as second hand smoking poses serious health risks.
Can somebody please help..? Does anyone have any advice from their experience, whether it be just a moral support or legal wisdom?
Thank you.

2024.05.15 03:48 Either-Spring-5330 What is Apigenin? (List of side effects and explanation)
Apigenin is a flavonoid / flavone that acts on the benzodiazapine receptors and the GABA receptors as an agonist, though the specifics aren't fully known. Its also supposedly acts on the NDMA receptors as an antagonist, though likely not as much as the gabaergic activity. It has a potency close to gabapentin, with 700-1g apigenin being close to 800-1g gabapentin.
The high and side effects of apigenin includes: sedation, light muscle spasms (similar to when on psychedelics), dizziness, warmth and fuzziness, nausea, double vision (uncommon), hallucinations (very uncommon by itself but common when in a combo such as alcohol), respiratory depression (increased when comboed with other gabaergics such as gabapentin or ethanol), inability to focus the eyes, blurred vision, loss of balance (similar to gabapentin or alcohol), inability to stay awake, headaches (uncommon), irritability (uncommon), among other effects.
Apigenin is a fairly safe and light drug, and so far seems to have little to no wds unlike other gabaergics. It's a safe and effective alternative to gabapentin, though the doses needed are almost equal. If you dont get much from apigenin, you can get a lot by comboing just a tiny bit of alcohol, gabapentin, or weed, but be careful because of the strong respiratory depression.
Doses (pure apigenin)...: Light - 50-300mg Medium - 300-600mg Strong - 600-800mg Very strong - 800-1g+ Unknown potency (heroic dose)...- 1.5g-2g+
-_________________- What are sources for apigenin? ...: Chamomile (low amounts, 10-50 tea bags needed), damiana (used as a tea or smoking, I've only tried smoking it but damiana is a good weed substitute, smokes better than chamomile) Parsley supposedly contains 45mg apigenin per gram of the herb, but there's other psychoactive components within parsley as well.
You can get pure apigenin, which is what I use and works the strongest, for fairly cheap online. I got it for 10-17$ and it's lasting me a decent while for the high it provides.

2024.05.15 03:38 Khai_420 Question about dispensed
I am very new to the medical cannabis world, I have been told multiple times that dispensed is a scam but i am not sure because it has worked well for me but people are telling me there is cheaper alternatives so i am wondering what people would recommend, i smoke for depression and to help with my sleep and focus.
