Games With The Most Impressive Graphics (long read)
As video games have continued to grow and evolve as both entertainment and art, the games just keep looking better and better. If someone is playing on a high-end PC or the average console, it's hard not to notice when a game stands out a bit more than the rest.
Whether it is the highest fidelity graphics or just a gorgeous art style (or both), games that look good usually also play well. If that much time gets spent in the graphics department they must have something good elsewhere. Here are the games with the best graphics out there.
Updated on May 12, 2024 by Mark Sammut: Two recently-released games deserve to be spotlighted. One is the latest entry in a long-running JRPG franchise, while the other is a new IP from a Korean studio.
Note:
A few criteria/things to keep in mind:
This article focuses on modern releases and a few post-2000s projects rather than classics from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis, and PS1 eras. As important and industry-pushing as the latter were, visually they are too different from modern releases to compare them.
The games are only loosely ranked since graphical styles vary so much from project to project, and personal preference plays a part.
A 2016 game might be ranked higher than a 2024 one because the former was more impressive when it debuted, even if the latter technically looks better.
1)Lords Of The Fallen Unreal Engine 5 Is Here
Epic's Unreal Engine 5 was introduced in 2020, instantly garnering hype for what it could mean for the industry's future. In 2023, a few notable games that utilize the engine were finally released, presenting early examples of its potential. Remnant 2 and Immortals of Aveum are both visually impressive, and the same could be said for ARK: Survival Ascended.
However, at the moment, Lords of the Fallen is probably the most gorgeous UE5 game, although that could change once titles like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 are released. While not without its issues, the Soulslike game's graphics are certainly not among them. Axiom is a vast and stunning hellscape, one that has quite a bit of variety. The game's lighting and animations are consistently top-notch too.
2)Bright Memory: Infinite A One-Person Team
Games and their visuals cannot be analyzed in a vacuum. Context and expectations shape somebody's reaction to an experience, and that is certainly the case with Bright Memory: Infinite. Developed by a single developer, Zeng Xiancheng, this first-person shooter originally debuted in 2020 as Bright Memory, a concept that was expanded for a full release in July 2022. While the overall game has plenty of issues, its graphics are undeniably impressive, comparing favorably with higher-budget titles.
There are plenty of gorgeous indie titles, but the vast majority succeed because they do not try to emulate AAA projects. They strive to do their own thing. Bright Memory: Infinite does the exact opposite, and the game proves that it can be done well.
3)Hi-Fi Rush Burst Of Colour
Announced and released out of nowhere, Hi-Fi Rush was perhaps 2023's greatest surprise. Tango Gameworks' action game blends hack and slash combat with rhythm-based mechanics, rewarding players for adhering to the beat. Set in a corporate city run by Vandelay Technologies, the title brings to life a vibrant and bustling metropolis filled with unique buildings and NPCs.
As the campaign is linear, Hi-Fi Rush focuses on creating cool environments and backdrops, two things the game absolutely nails. Quite a few stages are predominantly set within samey corridors and indoor areas, but whenever the action heads outside, Hi-Fi Rush really comes alive.
4)Okami HD An Animated Painting
There aren't many games that have been able to graphically stand the test of time as well as Okami has. Originally released in 2006 on consoles like the PlayStation 2 and Wii, Okami was able to take advantage of its timeless style to make the most out of the hardware it was on.
However, playing Okami on those consoles today shows just how much the original systems were holding it back, which is where the HD version comes in. On the PS4 and Switch, Okami's classical Japanese art style looks absolutely stunning in just about every area of the game.
5)Heavenly Sword Motion Capture Showcase
Most of Ninja Theory's bigger games boast stellar visuals and character designs, however, Heavenly Sword gets the nod because it was the studio's first proper graphical showcase. More impressively, the early PS3 game still looks beautiful today, an achievement that should be largely credited to the project's use of motion capture technology.
The cut-scenes steal the show and could easily pass for a mid-budget animated flick, with Andy Serkis' performance as King Bohan ranking among the best in any era of gaming. During gameplay, Heavenly Sword is also a treat for the eyes and senses, particularly in its lavish environments.
6)Killzone: Mercenary Console Quality On A Handheld System
Regardless of their quality, all the Killzone games are graphical showcases. Despite being a launch title, 2013's Shadow Fall is still among the most visually impressive games on the PS4. As stunning as Guerrilla's mainline entries are, Killzone: Mercenary deserves a special mention due to its hardware.
The PS Vita was and still is a reasonably powerful handheld device, one that could replicate home console visuals to a certain extent. No other title highlighted the console's graphical potential better than Killzone: Mercenary, an FPS that would not have looked out of place on the PS3 or even as a budget PS4 project. The fact it is also a decent game does not hurt either.
7)Super Mario Odyssey It Is Not Always About Realism Or Processing Power
While combining "Nintendo Switch game" with "best graphics" might seem weird, it's hard to argue that Super Mario Odyssey doesn't make the most of the console's limited processing power. With a combination of stylized art and impressive HD, Mario explores several gorgeous landscapes that might inspire players to sit back and think about how far things have come.
Nintendo has always used fantastical art styles to produce charming and timeless games that don't break the bank on processing. Mario has never looked this good, and sequences like the New Donk City music festival allow the game to shine.
8)Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League For All Its Faults, The Graphics Are Not One Of Them
All of Rocksteady's games push the envelope in terms of visuals, and 2015's Arkham Knight still boasts the most impressive rendition of Gotham in gaming. Its visuals have aged magnificently, and the gameplay is fantastic, even if the overall project is not quite on the same level as Arkham Asylum or Arkham City. After an 8-year wait, Rocksteady made its comeback with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League; unfortunately, the Arkhamverse spin-off garnered a very mixed reception. Focusing on looter shooter action in an attempt to be a live-service experience, Suicide Squad is a fairly confused project that does not seem to play to Rocksteady's strengths.
While many elements warrant criticism, and it can be tempting to dismiss the entire project, the game is not without positives. If nothing else, the graphics are generally top-notch, particularly when it comes to the cutscenes and character designs. When the action gets going, the screen can get rather muddled, but it is not devoid of visual flare either. For all its faults, Suicide Squad certainly looks like a proper AAA project.
9)Halo: Reach A Series That Always Pushed Console Graphics To Their Limits
In truth, Reach could be regarded as a stand-in for Halo in general as Microsoft's franchise is consistently pushing console visuals to their limits. In terms of art style, Halo 4 certainly has its fans; when it comes to graphical prowess, Halo 5 and Infinite are unsurprisingly a step above their predecessors. However, Halo: Reach perfected the series' iconic aesthetic of Bungie's era, ensuring the latter's time with the license ended on a high note.
Nowadays, Reach looks its best in The Master Chief Collection, which enhances the visuals in a few subtle but notable ways. That said, the Xbox 360 version holds up well after all these years.
10)Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot At Times, Looks (Much) Better Than The Anime
It wasn't until fairly recently that video games hit the graphical fidelity necessary to be able to fully translate animated shows and films into live gameplay, with recent Dragon Ball games being the most shining examples. 2018's Dragon Ball FighterZ was able to take a page out of Guilty Gear's book to make a stunning 2.5D experience, but gorgeous, fully 3D anime games were still a rarity.
Until Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was released, that is. Taking the Toriyama characters and landscapes that fans know and love, Kakarot turns them into stunning 3D models with some of the most impressive animations and visual effects around.
11)Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Detailed & Beautiful
Lego projects might not be as graphically intensive as games with realistic visuals, but they have a unique and clean aesthetic that generally complements their gameplay and tone. Although the franchise's IP adaptations are consistently pleasing to the eyes, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga exists on a whole other level. Covering all the main episodes in the sci-fi film series, the game beautifully recreates some of the most iconic locations in Star Wars, creating worlds that are expansive and detailed.
Undoubtedly the most ambitious Lego title, The Skywalker Saga is the full package, and Traveller's Tales' hard work is evident throughout the experience. While very much designed with younger players in mind, die-hard fans are likely to have a blast regardless of their age; in fact, people who are just searching for an action-adventure romp should check this release out.
12)Golden Sun A Gorgeous World To Take On The Go
In terms of raw power, the Game Boy Advance has nothing on the Nintendo DS, let alone something like the Switch; however, that does not mean the classic console's library is devoid of gorgeous games. Golden Sun is a turn-based JRPG set in Weyard, a fantasy world that is refreshingly diverse in terms of environments.
Largely experienced from a top-down perspective, Golden Sun looks like most other old-school JRPGs found on the GBA or SNES, just with its graphics maximized to their full potential. Camelot instilled every town and dungeon with color and personality, while battles come to life with a flurry of effects that are dazzling to behold.
13)South Park: The Fractured But Whole Looks Exactly Like The Show
When adapting an established property to a different medium, concessions usually need to be made. However, exceptions do exist, and South Park: The Fractured but Whole managed to perfectly replicate the show's aesthetic. The RPG looks and sounds exactly like Trey Parker and Matt Stone's legendary animated series, permitting fans to immerse themselves in this world like never before.
Even removed from that context, The Fractured but Whole's visuals are detailed, expressive, and clean. Authenticity did not come at the cost of quality.
14)Shadow Of The Colossus (2018) Majesty In Gaming Form
For the most part, this article focuses on modern games rather than titles that were graphical showcases when they debuted. Shadow of the Colossus both follows this rule and is also an exception; while the PS2 version looks dated, the visuals still retain that same sense of wonder and scale that they had when the game originally came out in 2005.
Bluepoint Games' 2018 remake gives Team Ico's classic a modern makeover, and traversing the Forbidden Land in search of majestic colossi remains as haunting of an experience as it was in the PS2 era.
15)Stellar Blade More Than Just Eve
In the lead-up to its release, Stellar Blade's marketing heavily advertised Eve, its AI protagonist, and her wardrobe. Attractive characters being used to sell projects is nothing new, but their heavy promotion usually suggests a lack of trust in the rest of the game's quality.
Surprisingly, Stellar Blade proved to be way more than just its main character. Shift Up created an exciting action game with Soulslike combat (along with hack and slash influence) that also features surprisingly expansive zones that allow for exploration, side quests, and environmental storytelling. Considering it was created by a smallish studio compared to other PS5 first-party titles, Stellar Blade compares favorably to most of Sony's heavyweights, and it is among the best-looking Unreal Engine 4 games of all time. In fact, it could be confused for Unreal Engine 5.
16)Persona 5 Royal Oozes Style
As hundreds of games use an anime aesthetic, they start to blend together if they do not inject enough personality into their presentations. Persona 5 Royal does not have this issue. Everything about the game screams "stylish," and that holds true for the social sim and dungeon crawling sections of the campaign. The latter take place in diverse Palaces that are generally vibrant, lively, and gorgeous.
The visuals also do a lot of heavy lifting during battles, elevating what is a rather unspectacular turn-based combat system. Outside of Palaces, P5R unleashes players on a small but dense variant of Tokyo, one brimming with tiny details that enhance the experience.
Note:
Persona 3 Reload is quite a looker as well, although its single-dungeon setup restricts variety when compared to Persona 5 Royal 's Palaces.
17)The Last Of Us 2 Gritty Realism & Tremendous Performances
Naughty Dog's games are always on the cutting edge graphically. 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has barely aged a day since its release, and 2013's The Last of Us was a contender for the most visually impressive game of the seventh generation. Therefore, unsurprisingly, the studio's latest offering, The Last of Us 2, is a powerhouse in the graphics department.
This action-adventure game features realistic visuals and grounded performances courtesy of Naughty Dog using performance capture. Whether players are viewing a rare quiet moment or crawling in the mud to avoid a Clicker, The Last of Us 2 looks incredible. The 2024 remaster enhances the base version even further.
18)Gears 5 Weather Effects & Environments
The newly titled Gears 5 takes a series that has always looked good and elevates it to the next level. The game's campaign takes place across a wide variety of environments, from a jungle early on to a snowy tundra and red desert landscape.
The snowy tundra and red desert are also the locations for the game's more open exploration sections, giving a chance to explore and take in all the scenery. Gears 5's cutscenes are also gorgeous and the high fidelity extends into all the game's other modes.
19)Assassin's Creed Odyssey Packed With Stunning Vistas
Assassin's Creed Odyssey earns its subtitle over the 60-plus hours it takes to mainline the story; in the meantime, players get to appreciate and take in the beauty of Ancient Greece. While the environments don't vary a ton from Assassin's Creed Origins, the extra trees and seas make for some spectacular views.
With the viewpoints, Odyssey never hesitates to point out just how magnificent it looks. Most of the main characters and side characters also look great, which is impressive based on the quantity.
20)Hades Personality & Vibrancy
Supergiant Games has put together some of the greatest indie releases of all time, and the studio's crowning achievement is Hades. The roguelike follows Zagreus' repeated attempts to make the journey from the Underworld to Mount Olympus, a task that proves to be anything but simple for Hades' son.
Hades' visuals are vibrant, thematically consistent, and lively. The game's environments and characters are soaked in mythology and personality, while the particle effects are fantastic and impactful. The only negative is that sometimes there is a bit too much happening on screen.
Note:
Hades 2 arguably looks better than its predecessor, but it is still a work in progress at the moment.
21)Cuphead Perfectly Mimics Classic Cartoons
A unique and eye-catching art style is often more important than sheer graphical prowess, and Cuphead might be the best demonstration of this point. Inspired by cartoons of old, Studio MDHR created a game that uses stunning and dynamic hand-drawn animation to bring to life a colorful world and the beings that exist within it.
Even though they do not get much in the way of backstory, Cuphead utilizes its presentation to get across the personalities of each boss. The art style is also consistent throughout the campaign, allowing for a coherent experience despite most of the characters boasting designs that share very little in common.
22)Horizon Forbidden West Scale & Quality
Guerrilla Games somehow managed to outdo Horizon Zero Dawn with its sequel, despite the latter still coming out on the PS4 alongside the console's successor. Horizon Forbidden West finds Aloy exploring a new area of this setting, one specifically inspired by states and cities like California and San Francisco. The result is a gorgeous and vast world packed with lush natural environments that are home to intricate mechanical beasts.
Like most open-world games, Horizon Forbidden West does not always look absolutely fantastic, but its high points are so impressive that they make the more forgettable moments forgivable. While still a beautiful game on the PS4, this 2022 release is, unsurprisingly, at its best on the PS5.
23)Ori And The Will Of The Wisps Great Use Of Color & Light
Moon Studios' Ori games are some of the best modern Metroidvanias, and they knock it out of the park in nearly every area. They tell emotional storylines that succeed in fostering not only a connection between the audience and the silent eponymous character but also the world they live in. Gameplay-wise, both games have precise and challenging platforming, while Will of the Wisps also introduces combat to the mix. Although a touch polarizing, the latter nevertheless adds an extra dimension to the overall package.
Last but not least, Ori and its sequel are both visually enchanting. The games' use of color might be among the best in the entire industry, and each environment is a work of art. In the world of side-scrollers, not many projects compare favorably to Ori and the Will of the Wisps in any department, including graphics.
24)Demon's Souls (2020) A Beautiful Hell
As mesmerizing as Elden Ring's visuals can be at times, the game's open-world design means they are spread a bit thin; conversely, 2020's Demon's Souls remake consists of almost nothing but stunning areas. Rife with deadly creatures, haunting architecture, and intimidating landscapes, Boletaria is a gorgeous nightmare of a kingdom that is equally likely to leave players in awe or fear.
As a launch title for the PS5, Demon's Souls served as something of a tech demo for the hardware, showing what the next-gen console could accomplish. This is a game that could not exist on the PS4, and even more than 18 months into the PS5's life, Demon's Souls still has some of the best graphics on the system.
25)Ghost Of Tsushima Immersive Open-World
Gazing across Ghost of Tsushima's rendition of the Japanese archipelago is quite the sight to behold, as this highly anticipated title has some breathtaking scenery. Tsushima's main graphical focus is on its world, which ends up feeling just as alive as the characters that inhabit it.
The way cherry blossom petals flow in the highly stylized wind, how the sunset illuminates the beautiful countryside, and the many vibrant colors that contrast the violent gameplay make for one beautiful game.
26)Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Pixar Quality
Similar to 2016's Ratchet & Clank, Rift Apart's animation is on a whole other level. The franchise's most recent entries tend to be compared to Pixar's movies, which is about as high of praise as any game can receive. Utilizing the full power of the PS5, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart matches top-tier cutscenes with gameplay sections that are packed with detail, moving parts, and depth.
Insomniac created lavish and dense worlds that all have unique flavors that make them exciting to explore. When the action gets going and Ratchet or Rivet scoop up bolts, Rift Apart is as smooth as butter.
Note:
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is also visually stunning and represents Insomniac at its best. Rift Apart merits the nod due to being among the first PS5 projects to showcase the console's graphical potential, but Spider-Man 2 is as good-looking of an open-world game as they come.
27)Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch Ghibli Quality
Except for Square Enix, Level-5 is arguably the most consistent JRPG developer in terms of visuals. Yo-kai Watch, Dragon Quest 8, and Dark Cloud 2 are all gorgeous, and the latter's art styles are timeless. Level-5's graphical masterpiece is undoubtedly 2013's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, although the developer got some help as the game's cutscenes were handled by Studio Ghibli.
The anime studio is well-known for its lavish cinematic productions, and Wrath of the White Witch replicates Ghibli's iconic style splendidly. Even if the cutscenes were ignored, Ni no Kuni would still rank among the PS3's most beautiful games.
28)Resident Evil 2 (2019) – Represents All Modern Resident Evil Games A Remake Done Right
Years of remasters and rereleases have cemented the idea that old games can look better than they did, but not as good as modern ones. Capcom rebuilding Resident Evil 2 from the ground up makes it a modern video game, a fantastic one at that. Leon and Claire have never looked this good and neither have the zombies and monsters terrorizing Raccoon City.
The police station and underground lab look nearly life-like and every scare in the game is extra terrifying with how detailed the monsters are. Even Tyrant looks awesome, in his own terrifying way.
Note:
Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 also look fantastic, but RE2 received the nod as it was the first of Capcom's stint of recent remakes. Resident Evil Village is also stunning.
29)Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) The World At The Player's Fingertips
Microsoft Flight Simulator is a jaw-dropping achievement. The flight sim grants players access to the world, allowing them to plan and take trips to Earth's highest mountains, hottest deserts, and greatest metropolises. The game's scope is impressive, and this ambition is more than matched by its technical prowess.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is arguably the most realistic game of all time, with both the planes and locations authentically mirroring their real-life counterparts to the smallest detail.
30)God Of War (2018) & Ragnarok (2022) A New Era, A New Look
Nothing against the previous installments of God of War, which are all technical showcases in their own right, but the soft reboot of the 2018 sequel and its successor are not only different but also more gorgeous. Exploring the Norse lands to soak up this universe's mythology is spectacular for a number of reasons, including the fact that everything looks great.
God of War captures Kratos and Atreus in a way that gives depth to the former not experienced in previous installments. Unsurprisingly, God of War: Ragnarok maintains the high quality set by its predecessor. Graphically, the sequel does not offer a huge leap forward, but that is a testament to God of War's beauty rather than a criticism of Ragnarok.
31)The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Pushes The Switch To Its Absolute Limit
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom boast vibrant art styles that bring Hyrule to life like never before. However, if someone were to focus on the minute details, they might notice reused or flat textures along with large stretches of empty real estate containing nothing but maybe two enemies and a couple of apples. Compared to some other open-world projects, Nintendo's releases might not be that impressive; however, considering the Switch's underpowered hardware, both games are technical marvels.
Tears of the Kingdom gets the nod as it has more content than Breath of the Wild thanks to the implementation of Sky Islands and the Depths. Pushing the Switch to its absolute limit, the sequel delivers one of the most complete and expansive open-world adventures of all time.
32)The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt A Dark Fantasy Masterpiece In Nearly Every Way
Known for being one of the greatest games ever made, CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3 is phenomenal for numerous reasons. Not all the monsters or gruff characters are a joy to look at because they aren't meant to be, but the sprawling landscapes are constantly killer.
While the console versions look great (not including the Switch port, which is nonetheless impressive in its own right), The Witcher 3 on PC can hit graphical levels that are almost beyond understanding. The game is worth playing for a ton of reasons besides graphics, but looking good is always a plus. The bathtub scene is worth the price of entry alone.
On the right system, Cyberpunk 2077 is also one of the best-looking games ever .
33)A Plague Tale: Requiem A Proper Current-Gen Experience
As the ninth console generation picks up steam, more games will debut that raise the bar for graphics, at least on Sony and Microsoft's hardware. A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the first games to truly come across as a current-gen experience, an achievement aided by Asobo Studio's decision to not produce PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Boasting brilliant facial animations and photo-realistic visuals, Requiem is awe-inspiring on a technical level. While 2019's Innocence is also a pretty game, Requiem far exceeds its predecessor in this department, particularly when it comes to the presentation of the rats.
34)Forza Horizon 5 Mexico At The Player's Fingertips
As long as Forza games continue to be made they will continue to be the best-looking games on the market. Forza Horizon 5 isn't just one of the greatest racing games of the last few years, but one of the most gorgeous titles to ever be released for Xbox.
While Forza Horizon 4's British setting resulted in slightly homogenous environments, the sequel's Mexico map is far more diverse, offering 11 biomes that showcase different aspects of the country. While the game looks good on the Xbox One, Forza Horizon 5 is unbelievably gorgeous on PC and the Xbox Series X.
35)Alan Wake 2 Cinematic Quality
Alan Wake 2 was a long time coming, and the sequel managed to live up to some rather lofty expectations while catering to both returning fans and new players. Split across two campaigns, the story follows Saga as she investigates a murder case that leads her to an unsettling American town with a peculiar populace. In the meantime, Alan finds himself trying to escape the Dark Place, a haunting realm that twists reality into something menacing but familiar.
Although complementary, the two storylines still feel different from each other, and that extends to their detailed and realistic locations. Alan Wake 2 is a technical work of art built using Remedy's own Northlight Engine, which is also responsible for the equally impressive Control and Quantum Break.
36)Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Ambitious, Epic, & Gorgeous
Generally, most JRPG franchises tend to trail behind other AAA properties in terms of graphics; however, the one constant exception is Final Fantasy. In most generations, Square Enix produces one or two games that push consoles to their limits – Final Fantasy 6 for the SNES, Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for the PS1, Final Fantasy 12 for the PS2, Final Fantasy 13 for the PS3, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the PS4. On the PS5, Final Fantasy 16 and Rebirth are both visually stunning, but the latter gets the nod due to its open-world nature, making for a more impressive final product.
Set after Cloud and company leave Midgar, Rebirth emphasizes this story's world-spanning nature and scale in a way that could not be done with the 1997 original. Even if the open-world filler content might not be to everyone's tastes, the game is consistently gorgeous, and each region of the map has a unique identity that keeps things interesting. The character and enemy models are unsurprisingly flawless, and they are accompanied by high-quality visual effects that are regularly showcased during the fast-paced combat.
37)Half-Life: Alyx The Future Of Gaming?
After more than a decade, Valve finally returned to the Half-Life franchise, albeit with a prequel/sequel rather than a proper third entry. Also, Half-Life: Alyx is a VR game, presumably designed to get people interested in Valve's Index headset. Dropping players in City 17, Alyx not only serves as a showcase of VR technology but is also a proper, substantial addition to the beloved series.
Half-Life: Alyx arguably features the most detailed world in gaming history, and, thanks to virtual reality, one of the most immersive. Although most of the game takes place in underground areas filled with brilliantly designed environments and enemies, Half-Life: Alyx's presentation goes up another level whenever the story heads to the surface.
38)Red Dead Redemption 2 An Era Captured Fully
Red Dead Redemption 2 is arguably the game with the best graphics of all time, although Rockstar's GTA 5 and L.A. Noire would not be bad shouts either. RDR2 is practically a movie due to how detailed and impressive all the NPCs and landscapes look on both consoles and PC.
Not only does every single frame of this adventure look photo-realistic, but RDR2 is also incredibly long and players will never get tired of the scenery. Arthur Morgan looks and feels like a real human being, and the same extends to every other character within the game. RDR2 is nothing short of art.
39)Groundbreaking Games From Yesteryear They Set The Standard
While not quite as regular of a phenomenon nowadays, the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s produced plenty of games that represented the next leap in graphical prowess. Titles like Pong, Asteroids, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64, Alone in the Dark, Ocarina of Time, Tomb Raider, Mist, Final Fantasy 7, and Grand Theft Auto 3 were all visual showcases that changed the industry.
Even if some of these projects' graphics have not aged extremely well, that does not diminish their accomplishments or importance. And, plenty of these masterpieces have stood the test of time, especially Nintendo's SNES-era releases.

2024.05.11 17:34 blackthorn_orion The Nintendo Breakdown 2: An updated overview of confirmed, leaked, and rumored projects from Nintendo and its close partners

Hello again! About 6 months ago, I put together a Nintendo roundup that got some positive feedback, and with this week’s double-whammy of the Switch successor kinda being announced and a direct being confirmed for June, I figured now was as good a time as any to put out an updated version so folks can know where things stand and have something to chew on while they wait. My intent is to update this post after the June direct with any new information. Please let me know if anything's borked, as formatting big posts on reddit can get a bit wonky and some of these links are getting old
Nintendo Entertainment Planning and Development (EPD): Formed in 2015 as part of a restructuring that unified Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development (EAD) and Nintendo Software Planning and Development (SPD). When people talk about “in-house Nintendo”, this is usually what they mean. EPD groups are primarily small producedirector-led teams that then scale up and pull from a shared “pool” of developers as projects get further into development. EPD’s many sub-groups can essentially be divided into those that primarily develop their own games and those focused more on overseeing/collaborating with other studios (both non-EPD Nintendo studios as well as fully external developers), though there are exceptions and gray areas
Development-focused groups
Oversight and collaborative groups
Other Nintendo-owned Studios: Mario World outside of EPD
Close Partners and Frequent Collaborators: The Nintendo Keiretsu and Friends
Misc. Odds and Ends. Things that didn’t really fit anywhere else, big grain of salt for some of these
Engine Talk: Finally, it’s a bit esoteric but with game engines becoming an increasingly common point of conversation and speculation, I figured I’d put together a rundown of some of the engines used in Nintendo games. This isn’t a comprehensive list (esp. because many studios use proprietary engines that aren’t well-documented), but should give a general idea of who uses what to make what (shouts-out to OatmealDome on twitter for doing the datamining work whenever a new game comes out, and MondoMega on Famiboards for maintaining a useful graphic that collates most of this information) )

2024.05.10 13:02 thecatcher1716 A Broken Promise Rectified - Chapter 8

The darkened throne
Britannia 537 AD
The kingdom was thriving under the rule of King Arthur and his roundtable knights, but in the shadows, two key figures plotted against his reign. One was the son of the king himself, Mordred, desperate for the power and fame of being king, and the other being the king’s lost sister, Morgan Le Fay, the only sorcerer skilled enough to challenge the king’s advisor and mentor, Merlin. Driven by the chance to become queen and make her name known, she joined with Mordred. If Arthur fell, Mordred would rise to the throne as the heir, but getting Arthur to fall would be a task no one living could succeed with brute force by one item that he would always keep with him, the sheath of excalibur. ‘Tch. Damn lady of the lake giving my father such an item. I doubt you can even steal it off of him without losing your head.’ Mordred mutters, sitting next to a fire within a damp cave. ‘Patience Mordred. Patience. When the time is right, all shall be sorted and the throne shall be yours. Everything is already in motion.’ Morgan says, sitting away from the fire and in a darkened corner. ‘Yeah yeah, just wait for your plan to come into practice, kill father, and I’ll get the throne and all the glory. Why do you even care so much about this plan? You tell me that it will work, but you get nothing from it, not even the fame from killing my father.’ ‘You doubt my plan? I take it you suspect me of betrayal.’ ‘Well, that’s the blunt way of putting it. You say your plan will make me king, but how do I know it won’t get me killed.’ Mordred’s blade slides out of its sheath, the point aimed at Morgan. The air grew cold as the fire died, the darkness of the cave the only thing visible. ‘It is unwise to question the one who can make you king. And I thought it would be obvious why I work with you. To put it simply, I want my brother dead. He was out in the light while I was forced to the shadows. He received countless divine blessings while I was shunned by the gods. That is why I want his head. Now, do you still doubt me? Or shall I do this by myself and take the throne?’ Mordred grunts as he sheaths his blade, the flame returning again. ‘Fine, have it your way. As long as I get the throne, I don’t care for your reasoning.’ Night fell, and the two left the cave, approaching Camelot. A single spy watched from the shadowed trees. ‘Remember the plan, you charge the palace and target Guinevere. My presence should be enough to draw out my brother.’ Morgan says, purposefully within earshot of the spy. ‘The knights are gone on quests, so you shall be fine to reach her. Once you reach her, you can decide what you do with her.’ Hearing this, the spy leaps into action and runs to the palace, only spotted by Morgan who smirked in response. ‘My King, horrible news!’ The spy yells as he bursts into the throne room. King Arthur stands from his throne, giving a nod to receive the news. ‘Morgan Le Fay and Mordred are approaching Camelot, and Mordred is targeting the queen herself!’ Arthur grits his teeth as he reaches for the hilt of excalibur, drawing the blade and removing the sheath from his hip. He hands the sheath to Guinevere with a bow. ‘I shall return once they are dealt with. Hold onto the sheath for until I return, it shall keep you safe from our son’s blade.’ He turns and leaves the throne room, walking through the dark streets of Camelot to meet the two traitors in the fields outside. ‘You two seek to end the age of peace this land is experiencing for your own gain? To think I share blood with you both.’ Arthur sighs as Mordred reaches for his blade. Morgan holds her hand out in front of Mordred, holding him back and then signalling for him to storm the castle. ‘Your fight is with me brother. We both know that your son is no match for either of us.’ ‘The time for words is over dear sister. You threaten both myself and my wife, this shall end with your head separated from your neck. I shall give you the honour of not holding back.’ ‘Very well brother. Let’s see if you are strong enough without your immortality.’ Arthur darts forward, swinging excalibur to kill. Morgan raises a wall of ice for defence. The blade cut through but Morgan was already out of its range. Arthur readies another swing as Morgan sends a wave of fire at the king. He drops his offensive stance and flicks his fingers to create an opposing wave of water. ‘So Merlin taught you some magic as well. Interesting.’ Morgan teases as she summons two stone walls around him. Arthur dives to the side to dodge as a ring of fire appears beneath him. A tall pillar of flames rises from beneath him, engulfing King Arthur. The flames dissipate revealing the burnt king, his feet still firmly on the ground. ‘You still stand? Why don’t you kneel for the future queen.’ ‘While I stand, you shall not achieve the throne.’ His breath was ragged as the blade of excalibur began to glow golden. ‘Letting you rise to the throne will bring despair to this land, and as its king, I cannot let that stand. We may be related by blood, but our ideals couldn’t be more different. Your ideals end here with you alongside them.’ Arthur raises excalibur up to the sky as the blade glows a heavenly gold. He swings it down and an arc of glowing gold shoots out and flies at Morgan. The blade cuts Morgan in twain as it passes through and Arthur’s body relaxes. However, the body fades away rather than fall like a corpse. A spike of ice shoots up from the ground behind Arthur, piercing his heart, red blood dripping down the cold spike. ‘I told you that I would be taking the throne. And Merlin may have taught you magic, but he taught you nowhere near the true limits of it.’ Morgan says, reappearing behind Arthur. ‘Resorting to such petty tricks. I shouldn’t have expected any less from you.’ Arthur softly says with his final breath. Excalibur drops to the ground as Arthur’s body goes limp. The ice sharply retracts and Arthur falls to the ground as a corpse. A year later, Mordred had been crowned king of Britannia, but the citizens remained in mourning for King Arthur. In comparison to his father, Mordred was the worst king to grace the land. Any who questioned his authority were slain on the spot for the smallest of trespasses. A wave of poverty and famine swept the wave and Mordred did nothing to help his people. This wave was treated as a sign from god that Mordred was not the true king, and instead was a curse to the land. A rebellion attempted to overtake the throne but were ruthlessly killed by Mordred’s army for daring to face the king. Morgan had disappeared from the country since the fall of Arthur, until exactly a year after Arthur’s death. A hooded figure strolled into the throne room, any guard who attempted to stop the figure dropped dead. Mordred looked down from his throne at the figure. ‘Who dares to enter the king’s throne room? This is as good as treason. Not only have you casually entered the king’s throne room, but you have killed the king’s guards.’ Mordred asks, looking down at the figure. ‘It has been a long time, Mordred. Do you remember my voice?’ ‘Have you come to congratulate me for achieving the throne you foul witch?’ ‘Such a harsh greeting. But I am not here to congratulate you. Instead, I’m here for your throne instead.’ Mordred laughs at Morgan’s words. ‘Challenge for my throne? Do you know how many I’ve killed for saying that? You shall be the next on the list.’ Mordred stands up from his throne and rushes down at Morgan who remains standing there. She clicks her fingers and one spike of ice shoots out from the ground, impaling Mordred’s stomach. ‘Your strength is nothing compared to your father’s.’ Another five spikes shoot out, each piercing Mordred from various angles. Morgan struts past Mordred’s suspended body before she clicks her fingers and it drops to the ground. She sits down on the throne and removes her cloak. ‘The true queen of Britannia is here.’
Valhalla arena
Morgan’s hand reforms and she clenches and opens her hand, feeling all sensation in it. ‘As good as new.’ ‘That damn witch didn't even use her full capabilities to kill me.’ Mordred scowls. ‘She’s not yet using the enhancements gained from her labour.’ Arthur mutters, standing next to Heracles. ‘She was capable of all this when facing me. The healing was just much slower.’ ‘Interesting…’ Heracles muses. ‘She has full mastery over its capabilities then. Natural strength capable of rivalling a god is impressive.’ ‘Look at him up there, acting like he’s better than us.’ Golena comments. ‘I believe it is time we begin to up the heat here Golena. Let us see how much your extra strength improves my spells.’ Morgan points her staff up to the angel above who prepared his scythe to retaliate. Air swirls around the tip of the staff and fires out as a blade as Azrael shoots down to attack. He dodges to the left to avoid. The blade flies past, a cloud of feathers and an entire wing joining it. The crowd watches in shock as Azrael plummets to the ground, his flight disrupted as his wing drops to the ground slowly. ‘Impressive. A nice clean cut and much faster.’ Morgan smugly says. ‘To lose a wing is a disgrace to any angel. To think a human could be so cruel to force one of us into shame.’ Gabriel says. Azrael remains laying on the ground for a bit causing murmurs to spread throughout the arena. ‘Is he dead? Has humanity gotten a win in ragnarok?’ Ares asks. ‘Wait no, look!’ Ishtar announces as Azrael’s remaining wing shifts. Azrael rises to his feet, his eyes wide as he stares down Morgan. Throughout the arena echoes a sound no one there expected to ever hear. Azrael’s lips parted as he began to maniacally laugh. ‘He’s finally lost it.’ Zeus mutters. ‘You filthy bitch.’ Azrael says, pointing his scythe at Morgan.

2024.05.08 04:14 EricsonGamingNite SONIC CHARACTERS AND MAPS I WANT IF NINTENDO MAKES ANOTHER SMASH BROS GAME AFTER ULTIMATE

So lately I've been thinking about Nintendo making another Smash game after Ultimate. And I'm kinda sad to see that Sonic is the only Smash character that's part of the Sonic franchise. I hope SEGA can make a deal with Nintendo to add more Sonic characters and Maps into maybe their next Smash bros game. But here are Some Sonic characters and maps I want in (MAYBE) the Next smash Bros game.
Characters:
Maps:
*Little note on Cyberspace: I think it's a good idea to mix between levels of Cyberspace like going from level to level transitions of Cyberspace from Sonic Frontiers
That's all! Little note there's high chances not all of these maps and characters will be in the next smash game. I justed listed these out cause I thought they would be cool ideas and recommendations . Who knows, maybe some of these maps and Characters from the Sonic Franchise will come next game.

2024.05.06 20:50 FancyFireDrake Operation Fate Order Mission Report

Operation: Fate Order Mission Report:
XX.XX.XXXX – XX.XX.XXXX
On the [REDACTED] of [REDACTED] the united Jumper groups of Yang Xiao Long (Remnant Designation [REDACTED]) and Eve Taurus von Hresvelg (Remnant Designation Unknown) went into a united Operation against the Multiverse spanning Anti Jumpchain terrorist cell known as the Chainbreakers. Lead by Gorr the Godbutcher, the groups latest action was to stop the emergence of Jumpers from the Fate/Nasuverse. The benefactor identified with these attempted Chainstarting events was Alaya, the Human Order trying to prepare against the TYPE Invasion.
The way by which Alaya intended to start Chains was specialized Holy Grail imitations, connected to the CP force and boosting magical power comparable to Goetias Ars Nova. The chosen servants were supposed to come across them and make the choice to Jump themselves.
10 Potential Jumpers have been located and groups send to judge how beneficial Alayas chosen would be as a Jumper and if needed defend them from Chainbreaker attacks. Lethal force is not authorized.
Reports:
1: Garden of Avalon
Operative: Jaune
Jumper Emergent: Artoria Pendragon
Chainbreaker: Empress of Mankind
Mission Success
Mission History:
Jaune Arc, in memory of his mentor Pyhrra Nikos and what he wanted to be so long ago, chose the Legend Jump with a connection to the King of Knights. His purchases allowed him to be a Knight unmatched even by Lancelot and Gawain together, wielding his own version of Excalibur.
Upon entering the Jump he departed to Artoria’s castle, at the same time as the resident chainbreaker. Said chainbreaker has been identified as a vastly less powerful and genderbend version of the God Emperor of Mankind.
NOTE: If said original Warhammer 40K universe had the Emperor naturally as a woman or if a Jumper had something to do with it is not known. It is also possible the Empress chose to take this form to manipulate Artoria better.
Artoria had heard about the Grail from Merlin and it was believed that with its power Camelot could be saved from the Quantum lock, stopping its destined fall. The Empress sought to manipulate Artoria into joining the Chainbreakers and surrendering the Grail where Jaune had intervened. On Artoria’s suggestion both Jaune and the Empress were allowed to make their case in a debate.
Reportedly the Empress doomed herself for a loss when she said ‘I know I am right’ upon which Jaune quickly countered that this rhetoric was exactly why she was destined too fail, laser focus on ones own belief to be worthy ultimately only running the risk of suffering and destroying yourself and those around you.
Touched by Jaunes honesty, Artoria chose his side. The Empress proceeded to instantly choose the route of Violence rather than risk Artoria becoming a Jumper, having used psyker powers to previously steal Avalon. Her life was saved by Mordred jumping in between the two of them.
NOTE: Mordred was not known to be the child of Morgan and Artoria and still hiding beneath her helmet.
The moment of surprise wasted, the Knights of the Round Table jumped the Empress, who was ultimately banished by both Jaune and Artoria unsealing all 13 Seals on Excalibur.
NOTE: The fact that the Empress seemed to be a valid target for all restrictions placed on Excalibur (among them including that the battle must be defending the Human Order and that The battle must not be against Humanity) shows worrying implications about the Empress current state of mind and nature.
Upon the Empress banishment Mordred was left comatose, with Artoria and Jaune alongside Galahad departing to retrieve the Grail to both save her life and save Camelot, by Artoria taking it with her along her own chain. Jaune has refused to talk about the events of their journey in detail but mentioned that Morgan stood in their way and Artoria discovered Mordreds true identity.
Upon returning to Camelot, without Galahad, Mordred was healed and preparations made to initiate the first Jump.
NOTE: Mordred had turned down being one of Artorias companions after the two had a heart to heart, unsure of her supposed destiny after Artoria explained why she didn’t want her to become a King but still accepted her. She was last seen wielding Rhongomyniad and departing on good terms as Artoria started the Jump.
Jaune Arc himself, despite his mission being successful, remained in fate a while longer, now an Agent of the counterforce. He would be summoned in future confrontations in the Fate world labelled as ‘The Rusted Knight’.
2: Baba Yaga
Operative: Eve and her companions
Jumper Emergent: Ivan the Terrible
Chainbreaker: Artoria Pendragon
Mission Partial Success
Mission History:
Eve Taurus von Hresvelgr alongside her companions resolved to tackle one of the locations as a group. Due to its unique circumstances, a Russia lost in an Eternal Blizzard under rule of a mutated Ivan the Terrible, it seems this approach was necessary to have any chance of success. The Grail had already been found by Ivans forces, however the mentally shattered Tyrant could not figure out how to use the Grail, hoping to instead of departing on a chain use it to stop the Blizzard and neverending Ice Age.
Misunderstanding Eves intentions Ivan ordered them to be hunted down. Blade Wolf remaining with Mordred in the city undercover whereas Eve, Edelgard, Naofumi, Raphtalia and Shadow investigated an uprising among the various villages.
This uprising was due to the chainbreaker Artoria Pendragon trying to rebel against the Tyrant and retrieve the Grail.
NOTE: Artoria was the only character native from Fate to be a part of the Chainbreakers. Why she chose to be a part of this Jump when her country of Brittain was a target as well is unclear.
NOTE: Eves Mordred, upon discovering the identity of the Chainbreaker forsook peaceful options in interacting with her.
A three way war broke out between Eves group Artorias rebellion and Ivans forces. In the climactic final fight, Ivan was crippled and finally talked down enough to understand what the Grail can do. Ivan, seeing himself as undeserving of what Jumpchain offered, requested that the Grail instead be used to give his world a chance of survival. Abiding by his wish, Shadow and Eve used chaos Control to tap into the Grails reserves and used it to restore the world.
Artoria, satisfied that Ivan would not be a Jumper and heavily wounded from the fight, tried to extract herself only to be stopped by Eves own Mordred, also heavily wounded. Father and son from different worlds duelled, ending with Mordred succeeding in striking down Artoria and impaling her with her own Rhongomyniad lance.
It was at this moment that Artoria was reported to be smiling, baffling Mordred as she explained her own past. Her Jumper sided with Morgan le Fay and was going to bring down Camelot. Using corruptive Perks he was able to sway all the Knights of the Roundtable, except Mordred who was always meant to be a hidden Weapon. Going against her indoctrination, Mordred sided with Artoria and died to keep Artoria safe before Gorr and Weiss arrived.
Artoria apologized to her son for whatever she suffered by her hands, before passing out. When the others came, they found Mordred desperately trying to keep Artoria alive.
NOTE: Artoria is reported as being in a coma but is expected to make a full recovery, All Black separated from her body.

3: Nirvana Yuga
Operative: Sun and Leone
Jumper Emergent: Arjuna
Chainbreaker: Sonic
Mission Succesrate unclear
Mission History:
Sun and Leone entered one of the strongest and most dangerous periods and locations of Fate history. Ancient india was full with war, bloodshed and demons but none would be as dangerous as an up and coming Godking. Already being in possession of the Grail, he held of on using it until he absorbed every deity of the Indian pantheon.
Something happened with the Hero named Arjuna that made him desire complete power by absorbing the abilities of other deities. By the time Sun and Leone realized what was happening deities fell one after another. This was when they were saved by the rampaging Arjuna by the resident Chainbreaker: Sonic the Hedgehog.
Having previously saved Karna from Arjuna, Sonic proposed working together and protect the Multiverse and its freedom from Arjunas rapidly growing obsessive and oppressive control. Seeing that this potential Jumper could cause more harm than good, Sun and Leone agreed on the one of a kind teamwork.
Using Sonics powers of Chaos Control, Speedster powers and demonic essence, Suns enlightenment, Leones items (among others Brahmastra, the Beasts Crown as well as Karrvacha and Kundala) and Karnas own return to snap Arjuna out of his ‘perfect’ mindset, the alliance managed to defeat Arjuna, free the divine spirits and give him a semblance of peace in death.
Sun and Leone retrieved the Grail and gave it to Karna so he may become a Jumper instead. The Hero of Charity instead gave it to Sonic when the Hedgehog politely asked.
NOTE: Although the world was saved and Sonic proved to be the most cooperative Chainbreaker by FAR, no Jumper managed to go on a chain and the Grail was lost. Sun and Leone themselves are unclear if they could call it a success or failure.

4: Land of Shadows
Operative: Slayer and Daisy
Jumper Emergent: Scathach
Chainbreaker: Guts
Mission Success
Mission History:
The Slayer and his Pet Rabbit turned Mobian turned daughter Daisy arrived in the Land of Shadows. They quickly managed to identify Scathach as the most likely person to qualify for a Chainbreaker target. And indeed Scathach had already gained the specialized Grail. Curious about its nature, when Daisy revealed its power, Scathach was intrigued and hoped to encounter worthy opponents during her own future chain, perhaps one who can give her a true fight to the death.
Upon being warned that a Chainbreaker would come for her, Scathach looked excited, opting to delay her Chainstarting event until she fought the Chainbreaker. Scathach also decided to train both the Slayer and Daisy in the meantime.
A few months later a man in black, wielding a sword more akin to a raw heap of iron, slaughtered hs way through the Land of Shadows. Scathach greeted him warmly and accepted his challenge of a duel. Slayer and Daisy stayed on the sidelines by her request.
Scathach and Guts were evenly matched throughout the entirety of the fight and battled for days with no break. However seemingly reacting to a potential defeat, Guts transformed. What was first expected to be the Berserker Armor soon turned out to be instead an Apostel transformation.
Guts Apostel Form
Upon being asked to explain what was happening, Guts angrily remarked that this was the result of his Jumper encounter. Desperate to defeat Griffith, his Jumper forcefully made Guts undergo Ascension into an Apostel that could kill the combined Godhand, using the souls of Casca, Puck, Isidro, Farnese, Serpico, Schierke, and many others.
While this transformation allowed Guts to kill the Godhand, it was impossible for the Jumper to retrieve the Souls again, leaving Guts eternally distant from those closest to him. He killed his Jumper himself as a final act of avenging his companions before being found by Gorr and Weiss.
Scathach, deeply saddened by what she was hearing, was reported to fight differently from there on, not allowing herself to be slain by a Monster and devoted to ending Guts misery. The following fight laster 12 hours before Guts went for the killing blow against a severely injured Scathach. At this point the Slayer entered the fight himself, duelling Guts for another 24 hours. Finally they managed to defeat Guts and calm him down enough for Daisy to make him a deal. If they can find a way to retrieve his companions from his soul and Apostel form, he would seize to be a chainbreaker.
The remainder of the Jump was spent trying to locate various gods and divinities, killing Monsters and experimenting with various Rune magics. Upon using Scathachs grail in a complicated ritual, Guts was fially reunited with at first casca and than the rest of his companions. Guts was last scene retiring in the peaceful Norse nature alongside his loved ones, parting with Slayer, Daisy and Scathach in mutual respect.
Scathach herself opted to, instead of becoming a Jumper herself, accompany Slayer and the person he followed as an additional companion.
According to Daisy, she is now referred to as her mother.
5: Land of the Rising Sun
Operative: Yorha
Jumper Emergent: Amakusa Shirou
Chainbreaker: Butcher
Mission Partial Success
Mission History:
The Androids of Yorha have over time become an even more elite group of soldiers than their creator ever thought they could be. Using their united purchases from Rising Sun, they furthermore improved their capability based on unity and teamwork. Each one is a mechanized ninja with physical capabilities of Greek machine heroes and an expert in the Ninja arts. Using a certain purchase they can summon a darkness the more of them are united and as long as one of them lives the others will eventually return due to their circumstances. Albeit they ended up in the sights of Youkai and among other things had to deal with aggressive insects and fearsome swallows.
The target was found quickly in Amakusa Shirou, in the middle of his rebellion against the tyrants wanting to wipe out his faith. After analysing the situation the three Yorha Units in charge, 2B, 9S and A2, decided to support Amakusa in his goals and prevented what was supposed to be their canonical end. Hearing of the Grail, first found by the Edo Shogunate, Amakusa wanted to use its power to create a ‘Land without Evil’ upon departing this world with his people. In an infiltraton A2 managed to get the Grail, but was surprised by the chainbreaker. This one was labelled as William ‘Billy’ Butcher. Fighting over it, the Grail was shattered as A2 retreated, now only possessing 4 out of 7 needed shards,
Plans were made to create a portion of the country where they could practice their faith without fear and to find the 4 remaining pieces again when the Chainbreaker attacked.
Butcher massacred his way through Amakusas army, even Yohra units unable to match him.
NOTE: 9S theorized that through some means Butcher has the effects of a Perk that allows you to ignore numerical disadvantage. Furthermore it is not known of the slaughter of Amakusas man was something ordered by Gorr as it would go against the Chainbreakers modus operandi.
Butcher confronted Amakusa directly, beating him within an inch of his life before the remaining Yorha units (now less than two dozen from their original 200) managed to evacuate him. From what was shared, Butcher was not content simply killing Amakusa but also wanted to break his faith, most likely because of his own experiences with Christianity and corrupt heroes.
Quotes among others included: “The only man in the sky… laughs at your suffering.”
Amakusa, still clinging to his faith, was deeply impacted by the massacre. It was only due to the support of 2B that he was able to move onward, hearing about Yorhas own story of eternal battle before they became companions.
Hunted by Butcher, the remaining Yorha hetched a plan. Implanting one of the Grail shards into Amakusa and the rest inside of them, they knew Butcher was keeping the rest on his person. Using Genjutsu, the trinity of leaders was able to trick Butcher into losing his Grailshards, their own upon defeat going to Amakusa who was able to use the complete Grail to go on his Jump. With the Bunkers systems, his dead man were able to come along as followers in empty android bodies.
Butcher was last seen trying to track down the last members of Yorha before he was called back, departing with visible rage and frustration.
6: Vive la France
Operative: Minako, Aigis
Jumper Emergent: Jeanne D’arc Alter
Chainbreaker: Cynthia
Mission Success
Mission History:
Minako and Aigis were recruited from Persona 3 together and have chosen to challenge Vive la France together as well. The former becoming a Saint and the later becoming a Knight, they soon discovered this variant of France to be much different. Jeanne D’arc, famously a merciful woman of god, was instead present in an altered state, commanding tamed dragons to strike down enemies of France violently. This seemed to have happened after Jeanne alter begged to be saved from the flames of her own execution and was barely saved by a dragon. She turned her wrath both on the people who wanted her dead and the enemies she already made.
Minako and Aigis were first to retrieve the Grail, trying to calm Jeanne Alter down and bring the saints well known mercy back.
At the same time the Pokemon Trainer Cynthia, with an army of Pokemon, showed up and challenged the Dragon Witchs rule.
As later conversations showed Cynthia became a chainbreaker after a Jumper tried to enslave the Pokemon race as a whole, abusing them and experimenting on any who were remaining. This cruelty enraged Cynthia who agreed to aid Gorr under the belief that Jumpers could not value any life but their own. Although the experiments ended up uplifting the human race, it was still deemed unacceptable by Cynthia to have the only remaining Pokemon that weren’t wiped out essentially left as Servitors or lobotomized weapons of war.
Wielding All Black enhanced Pokemon teams she managed to overpower Jeanne Alter, who once again begged to be saved and had Minako and Aigis respond to her call. The battle ended when Aigis took a lethal blow meant for Minako at the same time as Jeanne Alters first dragon suffered a fatal blow from Garchomps attacks.
Stunned by the sacrifice and even more so by Minakos and Jeanne Alters grief of loss, Cynthia stopped the fight and retrieved two Phoenix Downs to be used on the fallen. Although peaceful discussion afterwards were tense, Cynthia ultimately surrendered as long as Jeanne Alter would never ever abuse her dragons. Jeanne agreed and used the Grail to become a Jumper, departing to parts unknown as she believed this world no longer was meant for her.
Minako and Aigis offered to find a new World for Cynthia to go to. Cynthia agreed and cut her link from the Chainbreakers as long as her Pokemon could go with her.

7: Empires of Antiquity
Operative: Zero and Asriel
Jumper Emergent: Nero
Chainbreaker: Miguel
Mission Fail
Mission History:
Zero and Asriel arrived in The city of Rome during the reign of Nero. A figure of much controversy, this Nero was close to approaching a breaking point between either dying or becoming an individual known as Beast VI. Zero, who has in the past allowed Ultron to become a force for good, and Asriel, who has his own experiences regarding loss of morality and corruption, tried to bring her back from her madness as well as stop various atrocities that turned out because of Rome.
That was when they discovered their Chainbreaker, Miguel O’hara or also known as Spiderman 2099, who refused to let them alter the timeline and risk this entire world being ‘pruned’.
NOTE: When angrily asked by Asriel if he likes what he does, Miguel bluntly said he hates himself.
Both Zero and Asriel do not wish to discuss in depth what happened in Rome but consider the mission as a whole a complete and utter failure with Miguel retrieving the Grail himself and Nero dying alone and left with her madness and regrets.

8: God Save the Queen
Operative: Neo and Tecora
Jumper Emergent: ???
Chainbreaker: Weiss Schnee
Mission Fail
Mission History:
Tecora and Neo were among the strangest companions of Yangs group. Tecora, being a different personality of Yang altogether and Neo being an attempt by Adam to create the perfect Assassin to kill Yang so she could have Roman Torchwick back. After some early troubles with Neo and because of Tecoras immediate love towards the girl the two ended up becoming a surprisingly terrifying duo in combat.
NOTE: its theorized that the reason Tecora became so enarmored with Neo was because of Neo’s own status as someone with split personalities.
The duo became a terrifying pair of Pirates, Tecora surpassing even Francis Drake with what should be impossible being possible by her and Neo being even more lethal than Jack the Ripper could be. They went on various adventures before finally discovering the ‘Race for the Grail’. A treasure hunt for the Grail that the greatest pirates in the world sought to claim. While the belief was that it would merely grant wishes, Tecora and Neo knew this was the Grail they were seeking and that could start a chain.
After at first engaging in some fun bouts of combat, trying to gauge who was most worthy of being a Jumper, all racers arrived at the Island.
Than all of a sudden a violent blizzard froze the very ocean from shore to shore as the Chainbreaker of this mission made herself known. Weiss Schnee.
Using the moment of surprise she killed half the racers for the Grail. Tecora and Neo were overwhelmed with various summons.
NOTE: The summons Weiss unleashed were among other things the Remnant Brother Gods, DC’s Doomsday and various other individuals that are rumoured to be Jumpers she killed.
Tecora and Neo were unable to secure the Grail or rescue any of the other Pirates chasing for it. After conversing with Tecora, seeing her as a ‘violation’ embodying her friend Yang and seeing Neo as ‘tea pouring scum’ that outstayed her welcome, Weiss tried to kill her only to be barely stopped by the Rusted Knight and Chara, who had appeared in response to an emergency summon.
Weiss departed leaving Tecora and Neo with nothing but their life.
NOTE: This was the first time in the entirety of Yangs chain that Tecora suffered a loss.
NOTE: Neo does not know what Weiss meant with Tea pouring scum. It is possible that Weiss blames her for something she was going to do had Remnant not been invaded by Adam.

9: Strange New World
Operative: Ironwood and Chara
Jumper Emergent: Tesla/Edison
Chainbreaker: Syndrome
Mission Success
Mission History:
General James Ironwood and Chara arrived in perhaps the most modern variation of Fate.
NOTE: Thanks to using her purchases as a Strange Being Chara was able to appear at different points in other Fate Legends Operations, traveling through the various timelines it seems.
The unlikely duo consisting of an Eldritch powered child and the skilled general encountered Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison separately and were convinced of their nature as a chosen Jumper by Alaya. A Chainbreaker could not be found, instead the two trying to mediate between the geniuses.
It was than that the resident Chainbreaker, identified as the Incredibles Villains Syndrome, send out a message. Having kidnapped Helena Blavatsky, Tesla and Edison were supposed to journey to Nomanisanisland, located in the Pacific if they wanted to rescue her. The two geniuses in a rare display of unity departed, with Ironwood and Chara following closely, infiltrating the Island and workin against Syndrome in the background, wanting to discover his true goals.
As was later revealed, Syndrome had already managed to steal the Grail for himself and for an unknown project of the Chainbreakers wanted the trio of scientific or magical geniuses to study it for him, doing so in a series of challenging trials against his creations. Each one perfected his work more and more to the point the trio was faced with a Grail Powered Omnidroid.
The Omnidroid came close to killing all three geniuses until Chara managed to extract the Grail, Ironwood defeat it with skilled shots and Syndrome was forced to retreat, not before attempting to blow up the whole island with them.
Thanks to Helena and a strange disk they managed to escape with the Grail intact. The trio after some squabbling decided to go on a chain all together, Tesla and Edison locked in an eternal contest about whose inventions would benefit humanity across the Multiverse more and Helena resolving to discover the secrets of all magic and keeping an eye on them.

10: Oasis of Fantasy
Operative: Yang and Blake
Jumper Emergent: Gilgamesh
Chainbreaker: Issei Hyodou
Mission Success
Mission History:
Yang and Blake as the most seasoned fighters entered the most ancient time period with perhaps the most dangers. As the equals of Gilgamesh and Enkidu respectively (in Blakes case also receiving Perks to match the First Hassan) the two ventured the world trying to locate the Grail and gather intel. Over the course of which they ended up getting the attention of the Gods for better and for worse (particularly that of two certain goddesses).
Discovering one third of a broken Grail, the duo finally resolved to journey to Uruk. The Epic of Gilgamesh had been fully at play, Enkidu and Gilgamesh meeting and slowly transforming the King of Heroes into a wise ruler for his people.
When Yang and Blake arrived Uruk was locked in war with forces of the Chainbreaker in question, Issei Hyoudou. The Chainbreakers first fight with Gilgamesh, not believing humanities oldest bully to be worthy of going on a chain, ended with the splitting of the Grail into three parts. One now wielded by each group. This attack happened in response to Gilgamesh announcing he would take his kingdom on a chain but delaying doing so due to his arrogance. Furthermore, the first battle ended with Enkidu being mysteriously poisoned by All Black, left comatose to Gilgamesh’s grief.
The battle Uruk was facing was deemed as a matter the Gods would, due to some of Gilgameshs own affronts, stay neutral in. Ishtar in particular seemed amused to such a degree that she had not yet unleashed the Bull of Heaven.
Isseis army consisted of Offspring of the dormant laying Tiamat further enhanced with offsprings of All Black and obeying his orders. It is suspected he got this power through combining Boosted Gear with other OOC abilities.
Yang and Blake intervened in a direct battle, managing to separate Issei from All Black infection. Issei still continued to fight and merge back with the symbiote of his own will, proving that All Black was not corrupting their mental state.
Issei was still eventually overwhelmed and had to flee. Still locked in a stalemate in the war with the Red Dragon Emperor, while still wanting to resolve things in a peaceful way, the pair of Huntresses introduced themselves to Gilgamesh proper. With some experimentation, Enkidu was awoken by using the two shards of the Grail as a power source, though considerably weakened. Upon further reflection, it was decided to get the help of the so far neutral Gods. For that end Yang and Blake were send out by Gilgamesh to negotiate.
NOTE: During meetings with Ishtar it was stated the Goddess had already met Issei first before any of them and was insulted that he looked utterly unfazed by her beauty. This lack of a reaction to a beautiful woman was considered alarming by the Jumper and Companion.
Through carefully navigating the mess that was divine emotions, Yang and Blake were eventually able to convince Ishtar and Ereshkigal to side with Uruk, leading for rapid advancements in the war against Tiamats offspring from all sides.
It was at this point that Issei had on orders of Gorr awoken Tiamat herself, now corrupted with All Black. It appears that due to both Tiamats and Isseis desire to be loved they managed to connect as she lay dreaming.
NOTE: Issei insisted this to be a purely parent to son version of love and was offended when someone implied he was attracted to her.
Battling the Mother of Genesis, Yang forced a duel between herself and Issei as the rest were trying to delay Tiamat. After defeating him Yang demanded to know who he was doing all of this for. Upon Issei replying that he was doing it for his loved ones, Yang demanded to know when was the last time he even bothered to see them. The Huntress told him, that if he really was doing this for his loved ones, he would be with them now and they could have together tried to heal from what a Jumper had done to them.
Issei was silent upon that rebuttal, eventually showing a degree of self hatred for himself for not being strong enough and asking Yang if the Jumper had been correct, if he HAD been unworthy of Boosted Gear and his chances. Yang countered that worthiness only comes in response to who you are and what you do and urged him to truly read Tiamats mind and what she was truly thinking.
Upon discovering the depths of Tiamats grief and madness, not wanting another loved one to suffer, he agreed to help stop her as long as Yang could promise to save her.
In the concluding battle, Tiamat was freed from both All Black, having grown more violent and independent in contrast to the shard of Gorrs symbiote Issei was with, and her insanity. Yang and Blake promised to send them both to Isseis original world so that Tiamat could be free from her situation and Issei try to heal, as well as having their own group on speed dial if anyone ever WERE to threaten his home again.
Gilgamesh, for his part humbled by the experiences and having truly come into being a worthy King of Heroes, was still challenged to one final battle by Issei. Gilgamesh was afterwards given the final shard of Issei.
NOTE: Issei seems to have obtained something akin to Fay Eyes allowing him to see lies or deceptions. Realizing Gilgamesh truly wouldn’t become the kind of Jumper that hurt him, he decided to let him go.
With Issei and Tiamat departing and Gilgamesh taking Enkidu and Uruk with him on a chain, Yang and Blake left behind to oversee if any last Chainbreaker influence remained.
…This was when Weiss and Gorr themselves had appeared, having surveiled the various chainbreaker operations in every Jump and time period.
Overwhelming them with the element of surprise… Yang was lost in a dimensional vortex summoned by the Godbutcher, him and Weiss leaving Blake behind.
Final Mission Results
Chainbreakers Redeemed: Issei, Guts, Artoria, Cynthia (4/10 Jumps)
Jumpers starting their chain: Tesla, Edison, Helena, Artoria and Camelot, Gilgamesh and Uruk, Amakusa Shiro, Jeanne Alter (5/10 Jumps)
Potential Jumper casualties: the 7 Pirates (Full list in Appendix: God Save the Queen), Nero, Arjuna, Ivan (5/10 Jumps)
Holy Grails gained by the Chainbreakers: 3
Missing Allies: Yang
Finishing the last bit of the mission report, Blake closed her eyes, looking up at the stars outside of the Bunker.
“…Where did you take her?” Blake asked Weiss, wondering if her former friend would hear her.

2024.05.01 20:10 blargdag Orb of Yendor strategies for various lands

What are the strategies for getting an orb of Yendor in each land? Is it possible for all lands, or possible only for some?
Here are the "easy" lands, where the strategy is simply to use dead orbs (or ivy or cthulhu tentacle) to find your way back from the key:
Here are other "easy" lands where characteristics of the land itself make it easy to find your way back:
The following lands are harder because of the land's characteristics, or because the native monsters make it hard to do it:
The following lands have some characteristics that seem to make the task impossible:
Do y'all have any strategies to get the key + orb in one of the difficult lands? Especially interested in whether it's possible in the last list (nigh impossible lands) like Kraken depths.

2024.04.25 19:46 NewTavern1 Upcoming board game tavern inquiring about current game list

Hi everyone! I am starting up a board game tavern in the next year or so and need some help filling out my games list. I plan to open with >300 games, but I anticipate I won't be able to find everything on my list or be willing to purchase some of the more expensive options; therefore I'm hoping to get a few back ups so I don't fall short. I believe I've nailed quite a few favorites, and combed through BGG a few times, but if there are any games that you all think should be included in this list please comment! My only stipulation is that I'm not looking to stock super long campaign games like Gloomhaven, but a few sessions would be fine!
I've got 284 games listed as of right now, see the list below.

2024.04.20 14:48 Cerebral_Kortix Morgan's Overcomplicated Incomprehensible Love Life - A Full Analysis

Morgan le Fay. The powerful and wise queen of Fae Britain. The cruel and vindictive witch of Camelot. Sister to Arthur, mother of Mordred, one of the most powerful casters to exist in history, a complete girlfailure... and three separate people in a trenchcoat with a batshit insane lovelife.
Let me elaborate

Nasuverse Morgan

Morgan in the Nasuverse is actually a composite of three personalities - a loving elder sister, the Lady of the Lake, and the Will of Britain.
This already shows to some extent how wack she is, but that's not all. Morgan in the Nasuverse is not only canonically schizophrenic but also occupies THREE separate character roles, being Morgan, Morgause and Vivian, all at once.
Let me show how much this affects the canon. Morgan is, all at once-
In short, she's utterly incomprehensible.
Now, Morgause being the Lady of the Lake or Morgause isn't an uncommon or unheard of interpretation. What is uncommon is for her to be both. Mediaeval writers usually get around choosing either of these by writing out a few myths.
Only problem is that the Nasuverse... seems to include basically ALL Morgan myths unless stated otherwise.

Morgan: the Early Years

With all this, let's delve into Morgan's apparent love life in the Nasuverse, being three separate people:
Morgan le Fay, young proper teenage girl, wakes up one morning to find out her father is dead, her mom forcefully married by Uther, and she's been put in an arranged marriage with King Urien to get her out the way and for political purposes.
Reasonable so far, right?
Except she's also Morgause, mother of the Orkney bunch, and hence also been married to King Lot.
So Nasuverse Morgan was put in an arranged marriage with two different people for political purposes... and they were fine with this?
Well, no. At least this part of the myth seems to be changed for the Nasuverse. Urien and Lot are just the same person. So far so good!
Except, then things get weird. Morgan, Lady of the Lake, steals a random baby and raises him to be Lancelot (the reasoning behind this is never explained. Vivian presumably decided she wanted kids but didn't want to go through pregnancy, saw baby Lancelot, thought "Ooh! Unmonitored baby detected!" and just yoinked him.)... while simultaneously raising Gareth, Gaheris, Gawain, Agravain and Ywain (Morgan isn't great with names, don't question it.)
Morgan then... falls in love with Lancelot? And gets spurned by him causing a spiteful vengeance... which she immediately forgets about to instead continue being his mother and try to hook him up with Guinevere.
Morgan, as Morgan, then romances Guinevere's cousin, Guiomar till he gets either f***ing executed or exiled by Guinevere for dating a married woman. The same Guinevere who's currently cheating on Arthur with Lancelot... The same Guinevere who's with Lancelot because... Morgan, Lady of the Lake, aided in their meetings?
So Morgan is fully aware of Guinevere's hypocrisy and just... says nothing, instead moping around and hating on Guinevere? Morgan is apparently... a Wimp.

Morgan gets very confused

Morgan as Morgan then becomes promiscuous out of spite for her husband..., or is super duper chaste and actually a virgin despite having several children (???) due to being Lady of the Lake.
She meets Accolon, dumbass extraordinaire so profoundly stupid he unconditionally loves the cruel manipulative witch literally known for being adulterous. Morgan initially tries to manipulate him into being a tool, only for him to go entirely along with it, resulting in her being so confused by his total love that she experiences evilness stack overflow and falls utterly in love with him.
Morgan then pledges eternal fidelity and love to this dumbass (in her mind because Morgan is presumably on the spectrum and incapable of communicating her feelings).
She then sends him to murder Arthur to make him King while she on her own attempts to murder her husband in his bed so she can marry him because divorce has not been invented yet.
Accolon does very well against Arthur! He hops in for the final blow with which Arthur would die and Morgan could make him King and marry him!
...and then Morgan, as Lady of the Lake, *uses magic to get Accolon killed*** (?).
Morgan then discovers Accolon dead (did she not kill him ??) and is sent into such despair that she throws Avalon, the Sheathe, into a river out of spite for Arthur and the Lady (who is literally herself???).
Morgan then develops an eternal hatred for the Lady for killing her beloved... when the Lady is herself (??????)
What?

Morgan murders her husband (not)?

Somehow, at the exact time all this was happening, Morgause-Morgan's husband had died, murdered by King Pellinore, and she had started an affair with Sir Lamorak, the son of his killer, after his death.
...
Except, Morgan was trying to kill her husband per the myth of Accolon, only to be stopped in the end by her son Ywain.
...Is her husband alive or dead...?
Moving on, Gaheris walks in Morgan-Morgause in this affair with Sir Lamorak. Understandably on seeing Morgan-Morgause sleeping with the son of the man who murdered his father, he is very miffed.
So miffed in fact that he immediately stabs Morgan several times, beheads her and thereby kills her before beginning one of the many the blood feuds that destroys the Roundtable with Mordred and massacring Sir Lamorak's entire bloodline with Gawain and Agravain's help, due to them thinking that Lamorak killed their mother.
Morgan then... forgets she died and no one in the Nasuverse mentions that she's supposed to be dead.
Not even the children who ended Lamorak's bloodline due to her being killed.

Gawain plays Wingman

Gawain hears his friend Pelleas talk about how badly he wants to date some random girl. Gawain goes off to seduce her for him, having inherited his mother's lack of forethought.
This, as expected, ends with her falling in love with Gawain rather than Pelleas because it's not actually possible to seduce someone for another person.
Pelleas is then super depressed, having his girl stolen by Gawain's himbo tendencies. He wanders about and somehow the Lady of the Lake, Morgan, apparently having had nothing better to do, shows up and asks him to narrate his tale.
Pelleas explains how her son is a dumbass and this inexplicably causes her to fall in love with him. Morgan then marries him despite already being married.
Gawain finds out about this and... encourages this pairing-
...despite having been pissed alongside Lamorak and Agravain that his mom was dating anyone after his dad died to the point of going on the massacre. Yes, he went to murder Lamorak after finding out it was Gaheris who actually killed his mom (might be getting the chronology wrong) because he was that pissed she was dating anyone.

Merlin dies from being down bad

Merlin teaches the Lady of the Lake, Morgan, magic after falling in love with her.
Despite being directly responsible for her dad dying and his mom being.... "Nanaya-ed" by Uther, he can't put two and two together to realise Morgan might not like him.
Then, at the end of the education, Merlin asks Morgan to sleep with him. Morgan tells him to screw off. Then she rethinks this and tells him she'll consider it if he goes to the conveniently perfectly sealable cave.
Merlin, overjoyed, goes inside the perfectly sealable cave (a tower in the Nasuverse), where Morgan immediately locks him in for the rest of forever and leaves to do... who knows what.
So far, fairly consistent, but then we come to Prophéties de Merlin. Lady of the Lake, Morgan jests in the aftermath about how she's glad she got out of the situation without needing to sleep with Merlin unlike her predecessor student, Morgan Morgan who had to sleep with him.
....Morgan exclaims delight for escaping without having to sleep with him, unlike Morgan, who had to.
...
What?

Morgan develops amnesia

Morgause Morgan falls in love with Arthur and tricks him into the Akiha-route, fathering Mordred. In the Nasuverse, she despises him and only does this due to thinking Mordred as Arthur's bastard would destroy him.
Once again, back to Guinevere and Lancelot. Morgan only has Mordred to destroy the kingdom due to finding no other leverage, hence necessitating creating one herself.
Except she, as Lady of the Lake, already knows about Lancelot and Guinevere's affair. Despite this, it's Mordred and Agravain who expose it and destroy the Roundtable, completely on their own without Morgan's aid (except in the Vulgate cycle and hence Malory's portrayal which derives from it, but even there, Lancelot and Guinevere had already practically exposed it to public so it was no wonder Morgan knew. It was hardly insider information).
Morgan then apparently remembers all her character development from the tales of Accolon and the other ones which she'd forgotten for some reason, and immediately leaves the plot, being heavily implied to have died, returning only in the end to spirit Arthur away to Avalon where she's already gone (on account of being implied to be dead).
A nice and pleasant ending, altered only by the teeny tiny issue that the Knights of Charlemagne are canon to the Nasuverse.

Morgan cheats death; grooms literal baby

Morgan, cheating death for the second time, is actually still around several hundred years later despite being a normal human with a normal human lifespan. For no reason in particular, Morgan then breaks into the house of birth of a random ass child, Ogier the Dane, with other fairies despite Morgan not actually being a fairy, she's only named Morgan le Fay because... it sounded cool.
...
Let's move on. So Morgan breaks into this kid's birth, tells his parents "hey, I'm going to marry your son."
Then, having played her funny prank, her wee teehee, she leaves before returning several years later to the now grown man Ogier who's very confused on account of having never met her who she kidnaps to Avalon where she marries them and lives happily ever after away in their little garden.
Until she apparently doesn't and has God knows how many more romances (One prominent of these being that time Morgan apparently learned time travel to have a kid with Julius Caesar who literally died in 44 BC, 600 years before she was even born in the 550-600s. That kid being... OBERON???! AND HE'S AROUND IN... 1593? WHAT'S UP WITH THAT TIMELINE, SHAKESPEARE?).
Many many romances! Each and every one of which are mutually exclusive!
Because, you see, fellas-

Morgan is Mediaeval Esdeath

And EVERY DANG WRITER SHIPS HER WITH THEIR SELF-INSERT OR FAVOURITE CHARACTER!
PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS SINCE THE BLACK PLAGUE! THIS ISN'T EVEN NEW!
....*MORGAN WANTING TO MARRY YOUR SELF INSERT IS LORE ACCURATE...!!?*
....
One day, Nasu will elaborate on what Morgan being three separate people means.
Until that day, remember.

Your waifu's alternate self is canonically schizophrenic.

And her love life quite literally makes no sense, being an actual paradox.
...So don't ask her about her past relationships.
Just be happy.

Fin.

2024.04.19 23:32 TheGodKing124 A historical/mythological character that would fit perfectly in a Singularity/Lostbelt but somehow wasn't in there

Does anybody ever felt like there were these moments in FGO where a perfect opportunity for certain historic figures to feature in a Singularity/Lostbelt/Main Story Event but ended up not appearing at all despite how well they could fit in?
I'll give my own two exemples, being the motives behind I decided to make this post. Both are related to Sixth Singularity Camelot and I'm talking about the two legendary rulers: Saladin and Baldwin IV
These two character's lore are deeply connected within the Crusades and the Holy Land, premises that were also present and mentioned in Camelot as one of the Singularity's themes. And like, having read the background of these two, it makes me so dissapointed in seeing they weren't featured or even mentioned in Camelot.
Saladin was the very first sultan of Egypt and Syria, being seen as a great leader and even a man of principles and high regard by his christian enemies. A fervent follower of Islam who spent a good portion of his life in trying to conquer Jerusalem during one of the Crusades, being one of the greatest and biggest figures of the religion and all of the Middle East for doing so. (Also, small fact, it's canon to the Nasuverse that this man fought against a Dead Apostle with the help of motherfreacking Richard I Lionheart and the leader of the Hassans at the time! How can this badass of a man not be in the game yet?!)
As for Baldwin IV, he was a tragic king of the remarkable nation of Kingdom of Jerusalem, the central focus of the crusades. He had the nickname of the 'Leper King' due to suffering of a leprosy disease, not being able to live and rule the kingdom for a long time, dying only at the age of 24/25. (There isn't any evidences that he used to hide the terrible state of his skin face with a silver mask, but it does make him have a very dope design!) Many doctors tried to treat his illness but to no avail, dooming Baldwin to the short life he would have as king of Jerusalem. Despite that, he'd still appear in the battlefield to fight even with his decaying body, his will and determination being worthy of admiration by his soldiers. He was also a great rival to Saladin in the Crusades, with the two having great respect for each other. Baldwin was also perceived as a sanctly figure for having protected Jerusalem despite of his illness, having made the kingdom prevail and prosper during his short reign, tought to be the sole reason why Jerusalem still standed.
When looking at such characters like these two and then looking back at Camelot, I can't really help myself but feel 'Wow! It would have been kinda cool and fitting to have them in a Singularity that happens during the time of a crusade and is located on the Holy Land itself!' I mean, you can't tell me that their presence in Camelot wouldn't feel anything else but natural. But unfortunately, such chance was missed. And I'm not even going to talk about the Sixth Singularity of FGO Arcade. Still, Camelot is pretty great and clear from any other Singularity minus Babylonia.
Hmm, so yeah. Any other examples of historical characters that could have fit perfectly in a Singularity/Lostbelt?

2024.04.19 20:45 BluebirdAlley In Defense of Gaius

Gaius is often referred to as gaslight Gaius with good reason. Despite some of his questionable choices in behavior and what we've learned of his background at Camelot, I find myself swaying towards acceptance at times. Considering the times he lived in, to stay alive, employed and have some kind of home, it was dependent on the king of the fiefdom. Sycophant's are everywhere. People go that way to survive another day. I mean considering how Uther governed the kingdom, his ruthless murderous actions, Gaius first rule may be save my own hide. I am thinking about what it's like to work and be in the world in modern times. Powerful people exert control or fear or obedience in a lot of different ways. I have better choices today. But, in the dark ages, even traveling from one town to another was dangerous due to bandits, Saxons, etc. When Gwen was ordered out of Camelot by Arthur, that was brutal. A woman alone on the road with a cumbersome cart? Absolute target for at the least theft of goods. That's all she had. So, when I pick on Gaius at times, the other side of the coin is it's hard to be brave when an axe is always ready. Gaius would be dependent on Camelot when and if he was able to retire. Where does he go? Hopefully, he had a room set aside after years of service to two kings and now a queen. But, if Camelot is sacked, where does he go? So, his choices are an attempt to stay one step ahead of the worst that can happen. IMHO

2024.04.14 03:28 GentlemanSpider Arthurian Snippet

As Anselm had guessed, the courtyard was empty. What he had not anticipated was the cutting target set up in the center of the yard. Close by was a table with a variety of blades upon it, and unbelievably, Anselm recognized one of them. This was the sword of Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s champion. Wondering, wide-eyed, Anselm edged closer. Slowly, his hand stretched out, and he lightly touched his fingertips to the cold steel of the pommel. Anselm thrilled, his heart hammering in his chest. How many other people in the world could claim to have touched the steel of a knight of the Round Table and lived? So excited was he that Anselm did not hear the crunch of boots on gravel, and then a grip of iron clamped down on his wrist. Caught fast, Anselm whipped his head around and up, his heart leaping up into his throat. The face that looked down at him was as cold and hard as the steel of the sword he had touched. Piercing green eyes bored down into his in an angry frown. The man’s long blond hair was pulled back in a tail, away from his face, giving Anselm a good look at him, and he froze, forgetting to struggle before he had even started to try. Sir Gawain had caught him. “What are you doing,” the champion asked, his tone somehow stern and sharp without being loud. Whimpering, Anselm was about to burst into tears when another voice from behind him called out. “Relax, Gawain. We were watching him.” Gawain and Anselm both looked across the courtyard to see two more men walking forward, away from the shadows of the buildings surrounding them. With a trickle of nervous fear, Anselm recognized both of them as well. On the left, wearing a tunic of bright sky blue, was the youngest member of the Round Table, Sir Tristan, called the Knight of Flowers. He had long, wavy, golden blond hair that kept trying to cover one eye. On the right, wearing green, was Sir Perceval, the Forest Knight. Both of them wore swords, but while Sir Perceval also wore a small belt knife, a quiver on his back, and carried a longbow, Sir Tristan wore a cloak and carried what looked to be a picnic basket. “If you were watching him,” Gawain asked them, “why didn’t you try to stop him?” The two men came close enough to talk casually, Perceval holding his belt with one hand while the other hand held the bow up over his shoulder. “Curiosity! We wanted to see what he was going to do!” “Funny,” Gawain growled, “I was just asking him the same thing.” Anselm gulped as the older man looked back down at him. Mustering the small amount of courage he had left, Anselm finally managed to speak. “Your pardon, sir; I was just wondering how heavy it was.” “Hmph,” Gawain grunted, finally releasing Anselm’s wrist. “And I suppose my cutting target was no temptation for you at all.” He picked up his sword and sheathed it. Blushing, Anselm dropped his eyes, still shaking his hand to get the blood to flow back into his fingers. “Oh, come now, Gawain,” Tristan said. “Don’t be a mean old man. You can’t be so old that you don’t remember being a brave young lad!” Unexpectedly, Tristan set down the basket, kneeling so that he could look Anselm in the eye. “What’s your name, boy?” The question was asked gently, and it helped Anselm regain a measure of composure before he answered. “Anselm, sir.” That drew Perceval’s attention. “Oh, you’re Aidan and Kiera’s boy!” Anselm nodded, and the other two knights looked for an explanation. “His parents own a candle shop on the east side of town.” “Well, Anselm,” Tristan replied, turning back to the boy. “I see the look of an adventurer in your eye. Do you want to be a knight?” “Oh yes, sir!” Anselm exclaimed. “More than anything!” “And why is that? Is there a lady whose heart you would claim? Or a treasure you’ve heard about?” Anselm’s smile brightened. “I want to slay dragons!” Tristan and Perceval looked at each other in pleasant surprise. “A dragon slayer!” Tristan exclaimed. “Well then! He who slays dragons has to be very good with a sword. Have you had your lessons yet, Anselm?” Anselm’s smile faded. “No, sir; I’ve only tried to practice what I can watch on my own.” His eyes flicked over to Perceval. “I’m better with a bow.” Perceval raised an eyebrow. “Are you, now? Well, I imagine my bow is a little strong for you to prove your claim.” Tristan straightened, putting his hands on his hips as he grinned down at Anselm. “Is your hand all right?” Anselm worked his fingers, feeling not the slightest twinge of pain. He was just thrilled to actually be inside Camelot, having a conversation with two of the Round Table, King Arthur’s closest friends. “All right, sir. Not a tweak.” “Good!” Sir Tristan used his left hand to draw his sword, offering the hilt to Anselm. “Let’s see what you’ve got, eh?” Anselm’s eyes bugged as Gawain scowled. “Oy, I didn’t say he could have my target.” Ever the diplomat, Tristan looked at him and said “Gawain, in a kingdom where every resident is encouraged to learn how to fight, the guards are trained to fight, the soldiers are second to none, the knights are the stuff of legend, and the Round Table is ranked above all of these, you stand out as the best, head and shoulders beyond the rest of us. I am entirely certain that no matter what magnificent cut this young lad here can make, it will not be enough to completely confound Arthur’s champion.” Subdued, Gawain scowled again. “Go on with you, then.” Hesitantly, Anselm reached for the grip of Tristan’s sword. When Tristan took his hands away and let the weight settle into his own hands, Anselm trembled, and thought he was going to faint. The sword was made for a single hand, but Anselm’s were small enough that he could fit both on the handle. Slowly, he turned to the cutting target, waiting stoically on its stand. Suddenly, Anselm was unsure what to do; a cross cut? Which way? Maybe an upwards diagonal? Those were some of the hardest to make, but he’d been practicing them the most, recently. Tristan bent low, putting his mouth close to Anselm’s ear. “Why not stick with something simple this first time, eh? Downwards, right to left?” Relieved, Anselm closed his eyes, let out a breath he did not know he’d been holding, and gave a small nod. Of course. When he opened his eyes, he squared his shoulders and tightened his hands on the sword. He walked a little closer, just out of cutting range, his left foot forward. Tristan took a breath to say something, but Perceval’s hand on his wrist stopped him. In one smooth, fluid motion, Anselm raised the sword, stepped forward, and made the best cut he’d ever made in his life, the blade passing through the target as if it wasn’t even there the exact moment his foot hit the ground. “Ha!” Tristan clapped as Anselm followed through the cut, using his momentum to circle the sword so that he ended in a guard position, ready to defend himself. “Perfection!” Even Gawain’s lips twitched, suggesting a small smile. “Not half bad.” Anselm’s knees wobbled, and he quickly handed the sword back to Tristan before he dropped it. As Tristan sheathed it, Perceval walked up and laid a hand on Anselm’s shoulder. “Now then. You run home, and do these for me. First, no more sneaking about.” Perceval used his chin and head to indicate the buildings around them. “Camelot is usually open to people who ask. Second, don’t go bragging on yourself to everyone.” Perceval leaned in close, lowering his voice a bit. “The mark of a true hero is humility.” He winked, and Anselm grinned before Perceval finished. “Last thing; whenever you have a bad day, or feel down on yourself, you remember this day, when three knights of the Round Table, and one of them Arthur’s Champion, agreed that you made a fine cut.”
“Four,” thought Mordred as he casually leaned against the wall, hidden by the shadows that surrounded the courtyard. “He did well.”
Anselm’s chest swelled and Perceval ruffled his hair before sending him on his way. Tristan stood next to Perceval and watched the boy leave. “There goes the next Galahad.” “Sure hope so,” Perceval replied, turning back to the cutting stand. Gawain was just bending down to pick up the cutting target that had fallen with Anselm’s cut. “It really was very good,” Tristan said. “You’ve got to admit that.” “It was,” Gawain replied, looking at the straight line the cut had made. “Will you still be able to practice?” Perceval asked. Gawain said nothing, but removed the part of the cutting target that remained on the stand, then replaced it with the piece that had fallen, now upside down. He shrugged. “The boy was short, so the cut was low. This will work.” “We’ll leave you to it, then,” Tristan said, retrieving his picnic basket. He and Perceval turned to leave as Gawain drew his sword and addressed the target.

2024.04.11 19:22 ProfessionalCaptain4 the sonic games that we need to see in sonic movies or series and those that we don't

In 2024, something that no one expected to be real is that Sonic will have his own cinematic universe. This month, the Knuckles spinoff will be released and in December, Sonic 3
So on this occasion I would like to share my opinion on which Sonic games I would like to see adapted in future movies or series and which I do not want to see adapted.
1-Sonic Unleashed (yeah):
This game is one of Sonic's best and one of my favorites the story it presents to us is about seeing the wonders of the world and learning to appreciate everything it has to offer The way it does this is to convey this experience through things like the show of Sonic running around different places on Earth, meeting different people around the world, allowing him and Chip to eat local foods in different places
The friendship between Sonic and Chip is undoubtedly the heart of the game. Sonic manages to be a great inspiration for Chip to face his destiny of facing Dak Gaia because he and Dark Gaia are the light and the darkness. He could also use the Archie comics as inspiration. (post genesis wave)
as
Unleashed - 252-287
Sonic the Fighters - 268-271
This version is the same or better than the game since it gives more conflict development to Sonic in his werehog form (since in the game the only moment we see Sonic sad in this form is when Amy does not recognize him but from the outside everything is normal) We see Tails, Kunckles, Amy and others involved, something that does not happen in the game because it focuses on the friendship of Soni and Chip, which is not bad, but it seems strange to me that neither the other characters nor G.U.N realize that the world is changing. It split in half (of course originally Knuckles and Shadow were going to be there but they were discarded)
The only thing I would change about this is to give personality to Dark Gaia, she is only the final boss of the game and for her to be a legend that awakens every thousand years or something like that.
since eggman was the cause of this it would be repetitive apart from the fact that after turning sonic into werehog it is a complete useless i just wanted to build an amusement park and that's it
2-sonic 2006 ( yeah ):
-without a doubt the most controversial sonic game, some liked the game and others hated it
Because the plot is very far-fetched and pretentious, Sonic is a rock in this game, he has no development and his romantic relationship with Princess Elise is the most empty human and Sonic relationship, boring and forgettable of the franchise (and the kiss he gives her to revive sonic better let's not even talk)
-Mephiles, although he is a good villain, his plan is very incoherent and strange.
-Time travel is a plot headache, something not so new that we saw (it happens to many franchises like Dragon Ball, Avengers Endgame)
-Even so, we will not deny the virtues of the game such as the development of shadow and silver and the epic moments such as seeing the 3 hedgehogs facing mepihles in different periods of time.
-shadow with the dark team vs the merphiles clones and other things
Of course, to adapt it you should do the following
-that it took place in Italy and that Sonic and his family went on vacation
-everything related to Princess Elise as a historical character
-make Merphiles' plan more coherent
-simplifies time travel
-give sonic a bow
-makes Blaze less tedious with how to treat Silver (it's literally the only thing he does in the game if Silver is stupid and blah blah blah and I didn't care about his death at all) and more relevant to the plot
-which further developed the idea that Omega in the future exterminated shadow, an interesting idea that unfortunately was wasted
3-sonic and the black knight (yeah):
-the game is the peak along with unleashed in the best representation of sonic (since after this he and the rest of the character would begin to decline in colors, lost world, force)
-It is a story that takes the premise to the extreme.
-The villain is the revered and legendary monarch of the kingdom. Stopping him would be going against everything Camelot represents.
-To say nothing about his relationships with the Knights of the Round Table, Nimue, Caliburn, and Merlina, all of whom exist to challenge and ultimately reaffirm Sonic's beliefs. Those titles and status shouldn't sway your judgment, that actions should speak louder than authority, and that life should be lived to its fullest, not forcibly taken away or prolonged in perpetuity.
Of course, the question would be how to adapt how this developed in an alternative reality.
-Besides, let's remember that originally the sword that Sonic uses in the game was going to be in the first movie, which was in Claw Long's closet, but they ruled it out, of course, it could have been a simple reference or they even eliminated it to give it more relevance in a possible adaptation of the game. black knight
sonic generation (NO):
Don't get me wrong, Sonic Generation is a great game, literally a great tribute to our hedgehog, however, seeing it in an adaptation, be it a movie or series, I don't see anything to tell beyond a nostalgic tour of all the Sonic games thanks to Eggman to use in time. master by ruining sonic's birthday well
sonic lost world (NO) :
-From here the massacre begins. The Era Colors games are what I like the least (except for Frontier, which was passable).
-Its tone is very campy and cheesy for an episode of a Saturday morning cartoon but a good one.
-the conflict between sonic and tails about trusting each other and allying with eggman is very uncomfortable, terrible and stupid
-The construction of the world of the Deadly Six is absurd and meaningless
-The Deadly Six are the worst villains in the entire Sonic franchise (of course this is infinite in the first place) their personalities are one of the most generic I have ever seen, they are boring and irritating
-Eggman was the cause of this, he is very broken, well, in all the games, almost all the villains are born due to the actions of Egggman (be careful, I love Eggman but I want a variety of villains and not repeat the same old thing)
-In general it's not worth seeing it adapted into a movie, I mean maybe the scriptwriter will change it to suit him and he might do it well but for me it's not worth it
sonic colors (NO) :
more of the same with lost world a forgettable and cheesy story
-eggman builds his amusement park but in space
-a humor that gives a lot of cringe
.the wisp in the gameplay is cool but as a character they are super generic this would work better as a short for the little ones in the house because in the movie it would be filler
sonic force (NO) :
the biggest smoke seller in the video game industry
- the supposedly dark tone is superficial (I say we already saw that they try to make an edgy story with shadow, 2006 and force and it still looks bad to worse)
-he wastes the premise of war
-infinite is a complete inulti the worst villain in the franchise
-The characters act normally, I mean Sonic makes a joke and even more so when he was tortured by Eggman pro mese, Tails is a complete coward who without Sonic doesn't know what to do, Eggman is a poorly told joke, Avatar is a very X character, Classic Sonic is cheap fanservice
I would like you to comment in the comments which Sonic game deserves to be adapted and which one does not deserve to be adapted. I would love to read your opinions in the comments.

2024.04.08 04:36 SnooPandas1950 The Five Kingdoms and the Historical Context Behind them

The Five Kingdoms and the Historical Context Behind them
One part that is never expanded on much in the show is the concept of the 5 Kingdoms, their territorial extent, relevance, etc. But after looking into it a bit, the concept actually holds up surprisingly well and is based on actual historical documents. The show writers seemed to have pulled the five kings from "De Excidio et Conquestu Britanniae," our only contemporary source on sub-roman Britain. Which sucks, because it's a religious polemic written by a monk with a bone to pick, which makes for a very unreliable source. However, we can extract some interesting information from it, as the write. The key parts are the King's crests, which tie into the animals Gildas compares the five kings he names.
  • Olaf: Cuneglassos the BeaCynlas Goch of Rhos
    • This one is fairly straightforward. Gildas calls Cuneglassos "thou bear", and guess what's on Olaf's crest?
    • As for where "Olaf" came from, that might be a reference to Elaphos, a Romano-British magistrate, but he lived about a century before this, or it could be a corrupted form of the modern Welsh "Cynlas"
  • Unidentified King 2: Vortiporos the Spotted Leopard, King of Demetia/Dyfed
    • This was a bit trickier, but looking at how Gildas described Vortipor as "like... the spotted leopard...whose head now is growing grey", which seems to fit the description of this old guy
His Crest looks spotted, and is green, a possible reference the Irish origin of Dyfed's Royal Family
  • Alined: Aurelius Conanus the Lion's Whelp
    • Aside from the Name similarities, Gildas says that Aurelius has done "horrible murders, fornications, and adulteries" Which fits Alined pretty well with his obsession with war.
    • As for his crest, it kinda looks like a lion if you squint, but a goat seems closer.
    • Going off the description, I'd say Alined is the King of Ceredigion, given the lion flag, and Ceredigion has a sizable gap in its royal pedigree in the late 5th/early 6th century, where someone like Alined/Aurelius could've fit in
  • Unidentified King 1: Constantinos the whelp of the unclean lioness of Damnonia
    • This is pretty much by process of elimination, given who's up next
  • Uther Pendragon: Maglocunos, the Dragon of the Isle
    • This was pretty obvious from the title used, and given how Uther seems to be the foremost of the 5 kings, as was Maglocunos, being called "King of Kings". Gildas seems to have a particular vitriol for him, heaping the most insults on him. He mentions that Maglocunos ascended to the throne by killing his uncle, which would tie in with Uther saying he conquered Camelot.
    • One glaring thing that stands out is the names. With the previous two, they are somewhat similar, but Maglocunos doesn't seem to be at all related to Uther. This has a rather interesting explanation, but first we need to clear up a common misconception about Arthur that even the show falls into: Arthur is not, and has never been, a "Pendragon", and "Pendragon" isn't a surname.
    • Back then, the typical Welsh name structures were either "X son of Y," or "X descendent of Y," or had an epithet attached like "the Great," "Longhanded," "the Hairy," etc. So Arthur's name would be something like "*Arθʉ̄ɨroɕ β̃abon Ʉ̄θɨrī" or as Merlin (*Mɵrɘðīnoɕ) would have called the Once and Future King: "*Arθʉ̄ɨroɕ Galɣobennon" Arthur the Clotpole (Middle English for, I shit you not "Dickhead").
    • But back to Uther. The word "Pendragon" translates to "Chief Dragon" or "Great Dragon", a pretty realistic epithet for a subroman Welsh king. Interestingly, the epithet of Pendragon is only ever applied to Uther in Welsh tradition, which leads to my personal theory: "Uther" isn't a name at all but part of the epithet. Most people agree that "Uther" probably derives from the Proto-Celtic "ɸoutus" (featerror) from the Proto-Indo-European *péw-tus, "péw-" meaning "to shake in fear" and "tus" being a suffix creating action nouns, through péw-tros > PC: ɸoutros, meaning "He who Terrifies" but this would become Welsh "Udr", not "Uther".
    • But if we use *péw-h₂t-teros, with -h₂ti being a suffix forming causative verbs, and -teros forming adjectives meaning "Especially X", we get PC "*ɸoutteros", which does become Middle Welsh Uthyr. So Uther's full name could have been something like "Maɣlocunoɕ Ʉ̄θeroɕ Bennodragon", or "Maglocunos, The Most Terrifying Great Dragon"

2024.04.08 01:53 Kriegschwein Soo, about Uther

I just started watching the show (Well, I did watch a few episodes a decade ago, but don't remember them). And it is stated early on what Uther conquered the kingdom from magic users and set the law to exterminate all of them without dwelling for what magic was used.
But here comes the Griffin episode (S1E5). And there Uther doesn't believe what a creature created from magic can be defeated only by magic? Like, he acts like he never fought magic users, bc clearly some mage would have tried to use a magically created creature against him.
For a man who is supposed to be this "Magic Killer Over9000", he doesn't really know what to do against magicians? No countermeasures or what not. Like, it is almost hard to believe no one offed him before Merlin arrived to Camelot.
Maybe it is expanded about later? Because I don't see in Uther a person who defeated numerous mages.

2024.04.07 21:59 blep1202 Courage, Strength and Magic

(Very, very light spoiler for season 3-5) So you know in the episode of Merlin when they go to the perilous lands. What if Arthur did look into what the bridge keeper was saying to him?
Problem he's taking it the wrong way. The bridge keeper does his spiel and mentions both strength and magic and later Merlin and Gwaine both show up.
Arthur does not thing Gwaine is strong. Swift, a good fighter, sure but not as strong as Merlin who is so very resilient to everything thrown his way. Not Merlin who walks into every problem head on. Sure Merlin's scared about it but the Bridgekeeper didn't say Fearless he said Strong.
When they leave Gwaine behind at the border Arthur becomes very suspicious of Gwaine.
Maybe this is why Gwaine didn't like Arthur. Because Camelot is persecuting his kind.
When they meet Gwaine again and start fighting Arthur's goading him trying to get Gwaine to respond with Magic so Arthur can see if he's right and then the fire starts. Arthur know now. Fires don't just start like that. It must have been Gwaines magic.
After they escape Arthur keeps a wide berth of Gwaine not wanting another fire to happen. But then everyone is reunited. And Arthur knows these are his knights. He doesn't want a knight with magic but Gwaine has saved his life many times. So Arthur knights him but promises to keep an eye on him.
He notices that Gwaine disappears right before the immortal army is defeated and then shows up once more after they're gone. Arthur knows Gwaine is loyal.
He notices how cocky Gwaine is facing his opponents and thinks it must be the power that lurks below.
He notices that when they fight the wyverns before closing the veil that he hears a low chanting from the group and after that Gwaines says "See, that's how you deal with them" with a smile which can only mean one thing.
He notices when the get to the veil that Gwaine is the first person to challenge the Cailleach no doubt thinking his magic greater than hers.
He notices when he finds Merlin in the bog after all hope was lost it was Gwaine that was with him likely using his magic to find Merlin.
Gwaine is the one to find the "key" to Arthur's bane in the caverns.
So after all this when Merlin confesses his magic to Arthur, his first thought is not "Merlin has betrayed me because he has Magic", his first thought is, "God help me, the two most chaotic idiots in the entire five kingdoms are the ones who have the power to destroy everything."
It was hard enough making sure Gwaine didn't set anything fire. Now he has to deal with two of them.

2024.04.07 05:34 TheOneTrueAnimeGod Sionia Chapter 7

Sionia
Chapter 7
First Previous Next
Bang as the barn door slammed. I bolted up wiping my face to see what was happening. Pamba just stretched and turned over onto her back and continued to sleep. Getting up I noted all the clothing altered and my jeans were also neatly folded up on the crate next to the cart. I got dressed and headed into the tavern. In the hall, I could hear Princess Astrid yelling!
“What do you mean I have to go back to Hyborea?” Complained Princess Astrid.
“As I explained, your father ordered me to bring you home for your safety.” Stated a well armed elf with four others I had not seen before.
“Father agreed to my request! He gave his blessing for me to go to the academy in Camelot to study optics. Tell me what has happened Commander Finwe?” Demanded Princess Astrid who was clearly showing her anger.
Looking around the room, Commander Finwe sigh then said, “The Empire of Mardor has invaded and attacked the dwarves of the Iron Mountains.”
“Is that all? They do that every two to three years.” Princess Astrid stated with exasperation.
“Yes, Princess. That is true. However, this time they crossed our border to attack the dwarves from behind. We counted more than fifty thousand soldiers that crossed our border. They also attacked the Gray Mountain dwarves with over twenty thousand soldiers.” Commander Finwe explained as everyone in the room gasped at the numbers.
“There is more. I can see it in your eyes.” Princess Astrid accused and crossed her arms.
“They also have thousands of ogres, orcs and goblins of which several hundred being evolved hobgoblins. It gets worse. Our rangers spotted with the goblins a bugbear. You know very well they are the highest evolved goblin and pose the greatest danger. Mardor is also fielding monsters as well. Given that they recently attacked Astria's high valleys slaying or kidnapping all who lived there is a concern. Traders from Quenya have reported that Mardor is reading another army of one hundred thousand! You will obey your father! You will return immediately to Id where Pegasus Rangers will escort you quickly back to Borealis.” Commander Finwe stated the facts with the ultimatum.
“Very well. Wynthar make sure our people return safe.” Conceded Princess Astrid with her formal request.
Princess Astrid turned and walked slowly to me with sad eyes and said, “I must return home. I speak for all the Hyborean High Elves. Let it be known that we will repay the debt we owe five times over. I also promise to speak to my father about your deeds for our people. I will see that your king is well informed. I swear and solemnly promise that I will see you again soon. Farewell, Count Ryan Wyatt. You are indeed a good friend of Hyborea and are welcome in our lands.”
“Goodbye Princess and thank you. I am glad we met. Please have a safe journey.” I replied with a formal sweeping bow.
Princess Astrid with her eyes tearing up turned and left the tavern with her escort. The room was somber as I went and sat in the corner listening to people in hushed tones the bad news they heard. Bran brought me a bottle of vinqua but said nothing as the room remained quiet. I ate quickly after I was brought the meal of roasted boar steaks with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans which surprised me as how earth like it was. Plus, it was really good.
Heading out to the barn, I saw a cloaked man sneaking out with bag. I immediately ran toward him to stop his escape. The man seeing me rushed over to a florse and tried to mount but I was able to knock him against the barn with a loud shout!
“Hold! What did you take!” I screamed.
The man ducked and ran fast and was met by another on a florse by the western road. The thief was helped aboard where they began riding fast westward toward the land of Xanadu that I recently was told was in that direction. Running into the barn I checked the cart and saw that Pamba was gone. Additionally, it looked like they had gone through a few crates as well.
“Well, damn. I am going to kick their ass!” I cursed as went to arm myself.
I immediately changed and put on my jeans and boots. Grabbing my sword and shield as I already had my Sig and .380 auto on the dagger belt that also served as my pant belt. Thinking quick, I also took the shotgun and an extra box of shells throwing them into a leather satchel as a last minute precaution. I began to suspect the Xanadu merchant who had the big orc.
Heading out of the barn, I swung the leather satchel over my right shoulder containing the shotgun, extra shells, two apples and the canteen of water. I then slung the shield over my left shoulder like I had seen the soldiers do. Mounting the florse left by the thief, I headed out slowly onto the westward road and slowly urged the animal to pick up speed as it had been almost fifteen years since I had ridden a horse back on earth. After about ten minutes, I was finally comfortable enough that I urged the florse into a full gallop as I adjusted my seat and posture as memories flooded back of how to ride.
I continued to ride hard for some time before I slowed the florse to a trot after the hard gallop. Seeing that I had about an hour before it would start to get dark I slowed the florse to a slow trot to let it catch its breath. I had pushed it hard the last thirty minutes trying to make up time and now moving at a sedate pace.
Cresting a high hill, I saw the thieves as were going over the next hill. The the landscape was mostly orchards with dotted fields here and there separated by narrow forest belts. Stopping at the creek at the bottom of the hill, I walked the florse off the road and into the creek. I allowed it to get some water but not allowing it to drink too much. After a few minutes, I urged it back onto the road and up the hill.
Once again, I caught sight of the thieves who were about four to five miles away and walking their florse down the road. I immediately had my florse go off the road along a grassy area next to the forest belt that was there. I did not want them to see clearly if they looked back. I continued on walking my florse because I knew it could not go on at a fast pace anymore. About thirty miles was how far you can you push a horse on earth. You could get eighty to one hundred miles by walking, trotting with very brief sprints. However, I had already pushed my florse hard for a straight hour and it had lathered up. I decided that Florses here were similar physically to earth horses.
Cresting the next hill, I saw the thieves on the next crest which had a standard and pennant silhouetted against the setting sunlight on the horizon. Guiding my florse back on the road I continued on. Once I crested the hill, I saw the standard of a standing lion and the same striped pennant I had seen before. I realized I was at the border of the Avalon region. More importantly, I saw the light of a campsite about five to ten miles away as it was fully dark with only the light of two moons low in the sky.
Pressing on until I finally could hear laughter where I guided my florse off the road and into a small forested area near a small river. Continuing on for a bit toward the camp but ever further from the road until I could start to hear clear words that I could understand. I dismounted and tied off the florse and readied my weapons. Cautiously walking slowly and silently, I was able to see the campsite in a clearing that was obviously used by travelers.
Sure enough, I spotted the big orc as there was no way I could not miss such a large creature standing behind Shu the merchant. Scanning the camp, I noticed that there were people being tied to a chain that was secured to one of three carts furthest from the road. Counting, I found that the merchant party had forty one persons that I could see. Twenty two were tied up. Of the nineteen walking around, fourteen were armed guards. That left five one of which was Shu the merchant laughing and very boisterous. Creeping closer I noted there were four more guards on watch that I had not seen earlier. Luckily for me, the guard closest to me was more interested in looking at the half naked females tied up than properly guarding his companions. I got within ten feet of the guard then hunkered down to wait and observe behind a large tree with a V type trunk that concealed me with excellent view of the campsite.
About two hours later, the camp quieted down and those not on watch were seeking their beds. My guard was yawning heavily and looking back at the camp instead of looking where he should. I slowly rose creeping silently with the shotgun in one hand and a small rock in the other. Just as I was about smash him in the back of the head with a the rock, the camp was attacked from the other side. The guard turned and froze as we locked eyes for a second. I whacked him in the side of the head with the rock where he dropped where he stood. Stepping forward, I saw some arrows flying in striking the merchant guards as they rose to meet the attackers. Swinging my shield off my shoulder for protection as I did not want to be hit by an arrow. Suddenly, I saw what appeared to be white haired elves attacking the merchant party but they seemed strange for some reason and different from Princess Astrid and her escorts.
A fierce battle broke out as swords clanged against one another with sparks flying which was amazing to see at night. The orc screamed and went on the rampage encouraged by Shu the merchant. The orc was tossing, hitting and knocking the elves to the ground with a club. Stepping further forward I pumped the shotgun and took aim as I walked toward the orc. The orc stopped attacking the elves when he saw me with recognition. The orc was just standing there as we were about twenty feet apart and I was closing the distance.
“What are you doing! Kill them you stupid oaf!” Shu screamed when he saw the orc had stopped fighting.
The orc turned to look at Shu before turning back where it raised the club with a snarl. I immediately fired the shotgun. The orc stopped and rubbed its chest then took another step seemingly unfazed. I fired again and again until the ninth shot brought the orc to his knees where he dropped the club which rolled up against my foot. Stepping up to near point blank range I fired one more time and the orc fell dead.
Looking around, I saw only two guards still fighting but were quickly dispatched by the elves who teamed up on them. Shu was being held at sword point by a an elf warrior. Turning, I watched the elves move quickly to secure the camp. I stood still as I was slowly being surrounded by these elves who also were now tying up Shu and putting a metal collar around his neck. They then chained him to the cart in the same manner the captive had been. The elves worked quickly freeing the captives as they were crying happy tears and thanks of gratitude.
“Who are you!” Demanded a fierce female warrior as she walked very aggressively toward me.
“I am Count Ryan Wyatt. I was after two thieves who stole from me earlier today not far from the city of Id. I followed them here.
Sheathing her sword the female warrior with a nod said, “Understood. I am Samatha Svarta Sigmar. A warrior retrieving our kidnapped people!”
'It is nice to meet you.” I replied with a slight nod back.
“You helped us today with your Atlantean weapons. Did you have to travel to the city of Atlantis to get them?” Asked Samatha with her head cocked to one side.
“No, never been to that city or to that world.” I answered shaking my head no.
“Too bad, I was hoping you could tell me about the legendary city.” Samatha stated with a laugh.
“I see.” I said having nothing else to say.
“This scum kidnapped our people especially those poor kids there. Looks like they did the same to the Asgardians, Alphardians and those two Hyboreans. However, we are still missing five young girls one of which is my niece.” Samantha said with an angry growl.
“The High Elves waved this merchant down to help me get clothes as mine were bloodied and torn from a battle against rogue mercenaries. I believe he decided then to rob me later.” I stated what I thought with a shrug of my shoulders.
“City of Id? Humm. Mind if I travel with you to Id so that I can inquire if any has seen any dark elves?” Asked Samatha with a cheery smile.
“Sure, I guess. First, I need to find my stolen items.” I said as I walked to the second cart and peered in.
Seeing several large crates and a couple of animals in small cages along with my table top bbq grill. I climbed in and heard Pamba calling to me as She was in a half hidden cage hung from a crossbeam. I quickly released her and she jumped up and climbed onto my shoulder and was rubbing her self against me with yips and cries of joy.
“A ventu volpus! How cute!” Samatha nearly shouted with her voice going up a couple of octaves with a joyous bright smile when I jumped down from the cart.
“Yes, this is Pamba.” I introduced Pamba as Samatha was clearly nearly dancing with excitement and now giggling like a little child.
“I have never heard of a ventu volpus partnering with your kind. They generally dislike and avoid them. Did you raise her from a kit? Samatha asked still acting like a little child in excitement.
“Pamba clung to me when she was escaped Shu over there. He told me he was planning to sell her because she was very valuable.” I stated the facts with a pointed finger at Shu.
“It is true that they are considered valuable but only to your people. Pamba there can sense if a person is good or having ill intentions. They trust us elves because we respect them and do not try to control them like a pet. They are a true partner for life if they decide to partner with a person. Though, they may from time to time seek out their mate or another of their kind for companionship. Once in like a thousand cycles, their mate will also partner with you. When that happens, it is said that a mental link happens where you can sense what the other wants or needs. Mythically, you can also sense the good or ill from people you meet.” Samatha explained then dropped to her knees making baby noises which was making Pamba return similar happy sounds.
“I see. Well, I need to figure out what all this dirt bag stole from me. More importantly, what about them?” I asked pointing to the females and small children that had been tied up now being given clothing to cover themselves.
“Our people will be escorted home and united with their city and family. The others will be taken by their guardian and escorted home. The six Alphardians and those two high elves have a very long and dangerous journey ahead of them. The four Asgardians know how to fight as you well know. Give them a sword and they can help defend themselves. I am joining you as far as Id and inform the tradesman's guild about what that dung heap over there did. I also need to speak to their information broker to find my kin and place a reward. After that, you can get them all back home safe.” Stated Samatha as if it was all an undisputed fact as she swept her arm toward all the released women looking at me with concern.
“I have to escort them... Home? I have no lands or home myself.” I complained as I was in shock. Not to mention as I silently protest to myself, I did not know this world or where anything is.
“Are you not honorable? It is what honor demands! It brings glory to your house and notice of Kings. Though, your kind often does not act honorably.” Replied Samatha standing up with hands on hips and a serious accusing look.
“No, I understand and did not say I would not do it. I just did not consider I would be in this position when I was just trying to recover my stolen goods. I was being escorted myself by the Order of Knights to Duke Boasag.” I explained with my hands out in protest.“
"Well, the good news is that all these carts and their goods are now your property. I will vouch at the tradesman's guild that Shu was taken for kidnapping and illegal slave trade to the Kingdom of Quenya for punishment. Since you are a count and you did insure Shu's capture, we the Dark Elves of Quenya acknowledge your right of ownership of the spoils and your right by honor to return the kidnapped. Oh, by the way, call me Sam.” Sam stated with a huge bright and wide smile that was infectious not to smile back in return.“
Alrighty then, how am I going to get all three carts to Id?” I contemplated aloud.
“I can drive one and we can tie the other to the lead cart.” Sam stated as if it was the most simple thing in the world.
“Well.” I said before Sam cut me off waving at another elf.
“Delwin, harness the animals and tie the middle cart to that one over there.” Sam ordered another elf who was leaning against middle cart.” Turning with a smile continued, “If we leave now, we will be in Id by morning.”
“As you say. Though, I have another cart with goods at the tavern at the crossroads of the King's Highway. The knights escorting me is staying there as they are severely wounded in a battle.” I stated the truth of the issue.
“No problem. We can stop off and pick it up.” Sam stated as she went back to making baby noises with Pamba.
A little while later, there I was on the road with just Sam driving the rear cart with the loose florses and the previously captive females. I was driving the lead cart with another tied to it without knowing what kind of creatures go bump in the night. Sighing, I shook my head and just focused on keeping the cart on the road.
Just as Helios was peaking over the horizon, I made a long sigh followed by a long yawn being extremely exhausted with the tavern in sight. I had not slept fully at ease or for as long as I needed since I came to Sionia. Making another long yawn as the travel back to the tavern was slow and kind of creepy traveling constantly trying to see what may or not be there.
Looking behind me to the second cart, I locked eyes with Freya an Asgardian where she did kind of remind me of blondes from Scandinavia back on earth. Freya had stepped forward and said she would drive the second cart after the it broke loose for the second time. She also had taken a sword from one the fallen guards and seem to know how to use it. However, Freya would not speak to me and just said those five words to Sam. Freya just climbed onto the cart and began driving with no sound or complaint.
We finally arrived at the Tavern where a group of soldiers were milling around. Pamba growled and hissed her dislike from her spot next to me. With that, I set her behind me inside the cart.
“Hide in here. No point in letting them see you.” I said and Pamba made a short yip almost as if she said yes.
Pulling into the court and in front of the barn I saw Captain Jack with six soldiers. Captain Jack seemed perplexed as he crossed his arms with a surprised look. His attention was suddenly diverted when he saw Sam and his mouth dropped open.
“Everyone out and stretch your legs!” Sam called out jumped down to jogged up to me with a very bright an infectious smile.
It was at this point, I realized the meaning behind the term dark elf as her skin color was a well tanned brown color that contrasted with her very white hair. Sam's personality was that of a happy bubbly joyous one. It was really endearing which only added to her attraction.
“I say, lets get something to eat as I am starving! Maybe some boar steaks with eggs sounds good does it not?” Sam said in a cheery almost over joyed tone.
“Wait, what. You eat boar? I thought elves only eat birds and fish.” I asked in shock.
Sam cocked her head and laughed before saying, “Dark Elves will eat anything that tastes good. We are not like other elves with their noses high and ears straight.
“OK, good to know. Ears straight? Not sure what that means?” I stated with a question.
“It is an elf thing. When Elves are really happy especially when eating, you will see our ears twitch and waggle.” Sam replied with a laugh.
“I see. Very well, lets get Bran the tavern owner to make everyone something to eat.” I said as I jumped down and just could not help but join Sam in her laugh.
Sam taking hold of my arm led me and our party into the tavern past Captain Jack who was still in shock and speechless. Inside, Bran was overjoyed and began scrambling to make a huge meal for the nearly thirty people now inside the packed common room. I sat down at the same corner table with Sam and curious enough, Freya along with three other Asgardian girls and Captain Jack.
“Was told you were kidnapped." Captain Jack stated but could not keep his eyes on me but rather on Sam and Freya.
“No, some thieves had stolen from me and I went after them.” I stated as I noticed that Sam has once again grabbed my arm and was hugging against me with a bright smile that was deliberately directed at Captain Jack.
“I understand. I.. well... came to see if I could be of assistance.” Captain Jack stammered as now Freya took my other arm and also hugged close to me.
“Count Ryan Wyatt stormed the camp of kidnapping thieves and dispatched a war orc which led to victory! To him goes all the spoils!” Sam said with emphasis on “spoils” which both she and Freya hugged stronger.
“Understood. What are your plans?” Captain Jack asked.
Sam faster than a flash of lighting reached across and slapped Captain Jack so hard he fell off the stool he was on.
“You dare! Count Wyatt is the one you should be talking to and show difference. If you fail to get that through your iron plated skull, I will beat that lesson into you!” Sam shouted standing over Captain Jack with a pointed finger and her other hand on her sword hilt.
Captain Jack rubbing his jaw slowly rose to his feet and then turned to me. I could see the hatred in his eyes but Captain Jack took a knee and bowed his head.
“I ask forgiveness of Count Wyatt for the disrespect I have shown.” Apologized Captain Jack.
“I now consider this as water under the bridge. Sam, thank you. You are the second one who has shown offense for such for me and I am grateful.” I thanked Sam with a slight bow of my head.
“It is nothing. We the Dark Elves of Quenya owe you Lord Wyatt two debts that must be repaid.
“Two debts? Wow, the High Elves owe him five!” Said Bran who placed fresh made bread and cups of apple juice on the table.
“We the Asgardians also owe Count Ryan Wyatt a debt! You would do well to remember that in the future Captain!” Said Freya in a deadly tone that even sent shivers down my spine as she slowly stood up drawing her sword.
“I ask forgiveness. I will retire and be with my men.” Captain Jack responded and quickly backed away with his hands up in surrendering posture.
“That was wise. I doubt he would have lasted a minute against either a dark elf or an Asgardian Valkyrie. You are a Valkyrie?” Asked Bran in shock his suspicion.
“I have yet to go through the trial as my training is not yet complete. Though, you are correct. He would have been split a breath after touching his sword.” Freya said in a cold deadly tone before turning and giving both me and Sam a smile.
Sam laughed nodding her agreement and both sat down just as close as before. The room was now back to sounding lively as everyone began to eat except Captain Jack who left quietly.

( Record of Ragnarok RS ) Chapter 21 : Trust
" You all saw it here first , folks ! " Heimdall shouted to the bewildered audience members , " In a SHOCKING twist ! The fabled Scabbard of Excalibur , once a relic lost to time . Has now somehow made its way BACK into the hands of its owner ! And saved Arthur from the icy grasp of certain DEATH ! "
" Oh thank goodness , " Pandora said in an out of breath voice after witnessing Arthur's unexpected comeback , " Oh thank goodness , I thought we were done for back there ! "
Similarly her friends next to her were equally relieved that Arthur was not dead , with Göll wiping the sweat from her forehead as she breathed a sigh of relief , " I almost had a heart attack back there ! Things would have been really bad if we actually lost three times in a row . It would have been a huge blow to mankind's morale ! "
" Indeed Göll , " Prometheus replied , " Though I do not know HOW Arthur managed to find and retrieve Excalibur's scabbard in time for his fight , I am immensely grateful that he has it now , for our chances of winning the third round are better than ever with it ! "
" H-how does the Scabbard of Excalibur work exactly ? " Pandora asked , " I've heard a lot about it and its healing properties from my dad , but he never talked about the exact details of how it worked . "
" The Scabbard of Excalibur , " Prometheus answered , " possesses ONE of , if not THE greatest healing abilities in any Divine Weapon ever created throughout Heaven's history . When held by the user , the scabbard heals any types of injuries inflicted upon them , no matter how serious , and restores them to full health . Wounds , burns , broken bones , even the icy grasp of death is held back by the scabbard's ability . "
" Incredible , " Göll gasped in amazement , " So , with Excalibur's scabbard in hand , Arthur is basically UNKILLABLE ? "
" Not quite , " The Titan replied , " When something has such immense and powerful strength , it obviously must have some sort of drawback to balance it out , the Scabbard of Excalibur is no different . Its weakness is that its marvelous properties can only be used THRICE in battle before needing an entire day to recharge its strength , so Arthur needs to be strategic on how he uses these revives , especially when facing a god as powerful as Nezha . "
" S-so what you're saying is , " Pandora said , " That Nezha essentially has to kill Arthur three times before the King of Camelot actually loses the fight ? "
" Well two times now actually , " Prometheus corrected her , " But it's no wonder Arthur chose to not avoid Nezha's attack just now . " The Titan said thoughtfully .
" The effects of the scabbard were ALREADY taking hold after he suffered a broken rib and a wounded side , so he decided to make FULL use of the scabbard's power by taking the full force of Nezha's ultimate move , allowing him to also gather intel on how the attack works as an added bonus . "
" Whoa …. " Göll and Pandora muttered as they marveled at the King of Camelot's strategic planning and cunning .
Seeing that humanity still had a fighting chance in the match , Prometheus couldn't help but look up at the God's VIP section to taunt the Egyptian Chief God who now sat there wearing a look of anger and annoyance , with a smirk .
" The game is far from over Ra , humanity still has much to offer in this Ragnarok . Don't you dare think you've won just yet . "
In the God's VIP section , Ra growled as he tightly clenched his fist and bared his teeth , before seeming to calm down and take a seat back on his throne .
" No matter , " The Sun God said to himself , " Humanity thinks that a mere scabbard can save them from destruction , but all that human has really done is prolonged the time before his inevitable death by a few short minutes . "
" Indeed Lord Ra , " Said Amaterasu , " All the Third Lotus Prince has to do is murder that foolish king three more times and it will be victory for the gods , and humanity will be mourning the loss of their fighter again soon enough , only this time it will be for real . "
" Killing him three times over is still gonna to be a challenge for the Lotus Prince though , " Huitzilopochtli commented , " That Arthur guy managed to chip Nezha's ring with a single strike , so he's definitely no push-over …. "
" Please just shut up and eat your damn tacos , Huitzy . "
The Aztec Chief God sighed , making a mental note to never again bring snacks to eat on the sidelines whilst watching Ragnarok .
As Nezha got back to his feet , he eyed Arthur's scabbard with great interest , even amongst gods , the tales of Excalibur's scabbard and its incredible healing properties were well known .
" So , that is the legendary Scabbard of Excalibur ….. " He murmured as he stood up , wiping blood and sweat off his chest , " But the legend says that it was lost to time after your half sister Morgan le Fay stole it from you and hid it away ! How on earth did you manage to find it back in time for our match ? "
Arthur chuckled , " True indeed , Prince Nezha . I did lose the scabbard due to my own carelessness , but … " His head turned to face his loyal Knights of the Round Table , namely Lancelot , as he gave a small smile and nod to show his thanks , " I am fortunate enough to have an old friend willing to aid me in my time of need ! "
Nezha followed Arthur's gaze towards the fallen knight and frowned in confusion as he saw who the king was referring to .
" That guy … Isn't he that one traitor knight who has an affair with your wife or something ? Lance-something or other ? "
" Lancelot , " Arthur corrected him , " And I would rather not talk about THAT particular detail right now if you please . "
" Touchy subject , I get it , but I just don't understand why he would choose to help you , and why YOU would accept his help . "
Arthur simply smiled at Nezha's curiosity , " I believe we were in the middle of a fight , Prince Nezha , not a discussion of my personal relationship . Forgive my manners , but please let's just drop the subject . "
" My bad , let's continue the fight then ? Now by my count , I've already killed you once before . So if I want to win this fight …. " The Third Lotus Prince gave a faux look of being deep in thought , before grinning .
" I'm gonna have to kill you three more times to get rid of your scabbard's little effect , " Nezha grin widened at the thought , " Well hot damn , no one told me this was gonna be a video game boss fight . This is the most fun I've had in a fight since battling the Monkey King ! "
And with that , the Third Lotus Prince raised his spear and the two fighters continued their battle .
" And there they go again ! " Heimdall yelled , " Nezha's mighty Three Heads , Six Arms form has proven itself to be a massive challenge for the King of Camelot ! But Arthur himself has a powerful trump card in the form of the Scabbard of Excalibur ! I can't WAIT to see what happens next ! "
Once again , Nezha employed the use of his pantheon's signature battle style , which paired with his three body form , became an even deadlier form of attacking . Now whenever the Third Lotus Prince spun himself around to deliver a strong blow with his main body , his exposed back was no longer vulnerable to potential attacks from behind , thanks to the presence of the other two . And whilst he did this , it opened up the possibility of his other bodies suddenly delivering an unexpected blow to Arthur as he turned .
Arthur grunted as his guard was broken by a powerful swipe from Nezha's spear , and without even a second to catch his breath , the King of Camelot had to jump backwards to dodge Nezha's left body as the Lotus Prince swung the Qiankun Ring , as though it were a melee weapon , at him .
Repeating this process , Nezha began forcing Arthur back , masterfully advancing forward whilst he spun himself around , increasing his centrifugal force which allowed him to deal heavier damage . His spear and ring acting as the painful consequence , should Arthur be unable to dodge the spinning Lotus Prince's attack .
" DEADLY LOTUS SPIN ! "
Arthur gritted his teeth as he parried each blow with his blade , dodging and swiping with his weapon in an attempt to stop Nezha's advance , and though at some points he was successfully able to force Nezha to stop spinning and block his attacks . The Third Lotus Prince would always regain his momentum , continuing to unleash his whirlwind of weapons upon the King of Camelot .
" This is RIDICULOUS ! " Muzha and Jinzha protested , " Our brother obviously skewered that human ! If it weren't for that scabbard of his , Arthur would be deader than a doorknob ! Even if he's still alive , this round should have been counted as a win for Nezha ! "
" Calm yourselves boys , " The Jade Emperor said , " The healing abilities of Excalibur's scabbard isn't the only reason Arthur is still in the game , most gods would have already crumbled under the pressure of Nezha's continuous chain attack . But he , on the other hand , is fighting back and was actually able to disrupt Nezha's flow . That by itself is already quite impressive . "
" Apologies , Yu Huang , " Li Jing replied on his sons' behalf , " But please forgive my rudeness , for I must say , my sons' words are not without truth . That human seems to have an over reliance on his weapon's magical ability , without them he struggles against Nezha's attacks . So I must agree to an extent , if it weren't for the Scabbard of Excalibur , round 3 would have ended with Nezha as the victor . "
The Jade Emperor stroked his beard thoughtfully as he nodded in agreement at Li Jing's assessment . Meanwhile Erlang gave a loud snort at the Pagoda-Bearing King's words .
" Well well , it's the first time in a long while that I've heard you compliment your son's in one way or another , " The Warrior God said , clearly impressed , " Guess Ragnarok has a lot more surprises in store for all of us . "
Li Jing's eyes narrowed at Erlang's comment , and he opened his mouth to respond to the Warrior God's remark , but someone else beat him to it .
" I know that my husband and son do not have the best relationship between themselves , but that does not mean Li doesn't have any love for Nezha at all , my husband cares deeply for our son , though he may not be the best at showing it . I hope you can understand that , Erlang . " Lady Yi spoke with a disapproving glare at the Warrior God .
" Forgive me , Lady YI , " Erlang said as he raised his hands in defeat , uncharacteristically shifting uncomfortably under her piercing gaze , " I spoke out of turn . "
With that , Lady Yi turned back to her husband , patting his hand supportively , " Don't let his words get to you dear . " She said comfortingly to Li Jing .
The Pagoda-Bearing King gave a small smile , " Thank you my love , you really showed that rascal what for . "
But as Li Jing and his wife turned to continue watching their son's fight , he couldn't help but think about what Erlang and Lady Yi had said . Indeed , when was the last time he had actually shown Nezha encouragement , instead of reprimanding him and attempting to ' straighten ' him out ? Was he truly worthy of the person his wife had described him to be ?
Li Jing shook his head to be rid of those thoughts , regardless of the answer , once Nezha won his fight , the Pagoda-Bearing King resolved to do something to improve their strained relationship .
Back in the battlefield , Arthur leapt backwards , dodging another strike from Nezha's whirlwind of weapons ; the King of Camelot's entire body was dripping with sweat as he continued this game of cat and mouse with his godly opponent . Every time Nezha struck a blow at him , Arthur had to either move out of the way to avoid the attack entirely , or parry it with his sword and shield if he couldn't dodge in time .
At the same time , Arthur also had to patiently wait for the perfect opportunity to strike back at Nezha , forcing the god to block his blade so as to disrupt the Lotus Prince's tempo and temporarily slow him down .
As Nezha's body spun around once again , Arthur narrowed his eyes , patiently waiting for the narrow time frame when one of the three small slivers of a gap that separated the Third Lotus Prince's three bodies faced him . And when that chance finally came , Arthur quickly raised Excalibur to attack , best case scenario , the king would be able to land a solid hit on the Lotus Prince . Or at the very least , Nezha would be forced to block his strike and stop his advance midway , even if it was only for a short while .
So far however , all of Arthur's attacks had only managed to achieve the latter , with this one being no different . And although it wasn't much , it was still making some sort of progress for the king in his fight .
Nezha grunted as Arthur managed to successfully parry another strike from his spear , throwing the Lotus Prince off focus again .
" I know that I JUST said you were one of the best opponents I've ever faced , " Nezha panted as he caught his breath , " But did anyone ever tell you that your persistence can be a REAL pain in the neck sometimes ? "
Arthur snorted with laughter , " Believe me Lotus Prince , you aren't the first to say that , and you most certainly won't be the LAST ! "
This exchange , while seeming like friendly banter to Nezha and the audience , had actually provided Arthur with the time necessary for him to execute the next step of his plan . For Nezha's guard was lowered and he was now wide open !
With a loud battlecry , Arthur swung a heavy blow with Excalibur , overpowering Nezha's guard , knocking his spear aside , allowing his blade full access to Nezha's unprotected chest ! So with another roar , the King of Camelot thrusted the tip of Excalibur forward , aiming straight for the Third Lotus Prince's heart .
Realizing the danger he was in , Nezha's right body quickly reacted , sending out the Huntian scarf to intercept Arthur's attack , the Divine Weapon shot forward like a snake , wrapping itself around Arthur's left arm once again and halting his advance as Nezha held the scarf's other end fast .
Without thinking , Nezha instinctively thrusted forth his spear , the tip piercing Arthur's shoulder blade and burying into his flesh , causing the King of Camelot to roar in pain , as he dropped on one knee , the flesh around the spear beginning to steam as the weapon ignited into flames , causing a great pain to blossom across his right shoulder . "
Nezha gritted his teeth as he surveyed the grisly scene he had created with a twinge of regret , whilst still holding the spear in place , " Oh … WOW , uh sorry about that , I just ….. That came out of nowhere , sorry . I think that was a tad bit far for me , EVEN if you have a magical healing scabbard . "
Once again , Arthur responded to being seriously injured by the Third Lotus Prince with a smile somehow still on his face , and his humorous spirit .
" That is one impressive scarf you have there Prince Nezha , do you think you could perhaps give me the name of your tailor if possible ? "
Nezha gave a weak laugh at Arthur's joke , " Here I am with a burning spear stuck in your shoulder trying to apologize , and you STILL can be so light hearted about everything ? "
Arthur chuckled at his opponent's words , " There's no need for you to apologize , Prince Nezha , you're simply doing what's necessary for you to win our match . However , I must now ask for YOUR forgiveness , for doing …. THIS ! "
As he said this , Arthur dropped the Shield of Avalon from his right arm , before grabbing onto Nezha's spear handle and jerking the entire weapon forward , causing the audience to gasp as the king forced the spear-tip deeper into his own flesh willingly .
This action , however , achieved exactly what Arthur was hoping for . The sudden force of his spear being pulled forward caused Nezha to stumble and trip , nearly falling over as he struggled to keep his balance by holding onto his weapon , thus leaving him wide open and vulnerable to any attacks !
Breaking free of the Huntian scarf's grip , Arthur raised his sword high above his head with both hands , before swinging it downwards with all his might ., delivering a powerful blow .
" EXCALIBUR'S JUDGMENT ! "
" NEZHA ! " His family screamed as the sound of metal tearing through flesh was all the audience heard as Excalibur's blade cleanly cut through and severed The Lotus Prince's left arm from his main body . They gasped as they watched Nezha's appendage fall limp to the ground with its owner quickly following suit , letting out a scream of agony as his three bodies reverted back to one .
As his opponent lay on the ground momentarily incapacitated from his injury , Arthur grabbed the shaft of the spear , and gritted his teeth , preparing for the pain that would soon follow as he tugged on the weapon , attempting to extract it from his shoulder .
With a sickening squelching sound , Arthur managed to pull the weapon out from his shoulder , leaving behind a large bloody hole as he dropped the Fire-tip Spear , allowing it to roll back to its user .
As Arthur inspected his injury , the torn , exposed flesh and muscles within his wound began to regrow and attach themselves back to one another . Slowly but surely , the gaping hole on his shoulder began shrinking and shrinking till it was completely covered up by pink flesh , which was then covered by a new , unburnt layer of skin . Finishing the healing process , indicating that another one of the scabbard's healing charges had been used up .
" I-i'm lost for words ! " Heimdall gaped , " The mighty King of Camelot , Arthur Pendragon , has just CHOPPED OFF Nezha's arm in the most epic way I can POSSIBLY imagine ! "
Humanity bustled with excitement seeing their fighter gain even more of an advantage , their confidence soared higher than before now that the god's representative would have to continue the match with literally just one hand . A bit low on their part , but they had already just lost two matches before and were now extremely desperate for a win .
" Heh … Heh , Heh , Heh …. "
Arthur's attention returned to his opponent , the Third Lotus Prince was now slowly getting back up on his knees with a raspy laugh , momentarily he interrupted as he coughed out a few droplets of blood from his mouth .
" Impossible …. " Erlang growled as he saw the grievous wounds inflicted on his friend , " How … How could ONE man ever inflict such a powerful blow on Nezha of all gods ? This can't be happening ! "
By his side , Muzha and Jinzha , as well as many other gods , yelled for Nezha , encouraging him to get back up on his feet . Meanwhile , Lady Yi choked back tears seeing what had happened to her son , as Li Jing gently placed a hand over her shoulder to comfort his wife .
The Pagoda-Bearing King looked at his fallen son with a face that betrayed no signs of emotion , but despite his seemingly uncaring expression . Li Jing's eyes were filled with worry and fear for his son .
" Come on son , " Li thought silently to himself as he watched Nezha struggling to just barely get up on his knees , " Win this . Win this and come back to us already ! "
Turning his head to his left , Nezha examined the bloody stump that was once his left arm , the droplets of red that fell from it , creating a crimson puddle on the floor below him . As he did so , the Third Lotus Prince's soft giggle slowly turned into a wheezing raspy laugh , the audience watched in confusion as Nezha's laughter became louder and louder till he began coughing from how strained his voice had become .

" HAHAHAHA-COUGH ! COUGH ! Ah shit ! Arthur my dude , you've really outdid yourself this time ! Letting yourself get run through by a spear so you can get your opponent close enough to strike them down ? CLASSIC ! If I didn't know any better , I'd say someone was writing this fight to be as cliche as they possibly could for their audience ! "
Arthur chuckled , " And here I thought you would be livid after what I did to you . "
" Oh believe me , " Nezha smirked as he wiped a tear from his eye with his right hand , " I would be PISSED if someone else were able to take this MUCH off me as you did . But with how cool and chill you are , I can't find it in myself to blame you . It's like you said , you're simply doing what's necessary for you to win our match ! "
Arthur smiled as he gave a slight bow to Nezha , " Why thank you for the kind words , Prince Nezha . I am honored that a god would give me such praise . "
Nezha groaned as he slowly got up on his two feet , nearly falling back down on his knees with how exhausted he was from before . Though he managed to persevere through the pain , standing strong and proud in the end .
" No prob , " The Lotus Prince answered as he wiped off blood from his chest , " Though in exchange , can you answer this one question from me then , King Arthur ? "
Go right ahead , Prince Nezha , it is the least I could do , " Arthur responded as he swung Excalibur idly by his side , relaxed at the moment but still prepared to defend himself should Nezha suddenly make a move .
Nezha's voice then turned serious and laced with the ever-so slightest hint of contempt , " Alright , look , Arthur you're one hell of a dude . You fight valiantly for your people , you're an easy guy to get along with , and we all already know how good you are at fighting . All of these qualities I can totally respect , but for the life of me , I cannot figure out nor comprehend . Why in Heaven or Hell would you ever forgive that Lancelot guy for everything he's ever done to you ? "
Arthur sighed as Nezha brought this topic up once again , " Look , Prince Nezha , I really would not like to talk about this right now . "
" Oh no , no , NO ! We're having this conversation ! The dude royally screwed you over in the worst way possible ! You thought he was your comrade and friend , but he goes and messes around with your own WIFE while your back is turned ! Then he had the gall to go to war with you after getting his sorry ass exposed ! He's considered the MAIN reason why your kingdom fell into ruins . Lemme tell you , If all that shit happened to ME , I wouldn't rest until he was six feet under ! And even in the afterlife , my first priority would be to exterminate his ass and send him straight to Niflheim ! You're a smart and sensible dude Arthut , so why the HELL would you give him the chance to backstab you again ? Why would you EVER let him get close to you again ? To let him back into your life again ? It doesn't make any fucking sense ! "
Arthur watched Nezha's outburst and subsequent rant with a somber look on his face , turning to Lancelot with an assuring nod and a sad smile . The fallen knight however , could not bring himself to face his former king , looking down at his own two feet in shame as the spectator's around Lancelot stared at him with disapproving scowls on their faces . Having a legacy so infamous that even a god was calling you out , was obviously not a good look for anyone's reputation .
" Hmmm …. I see , very well then , " Arthur said after thinking for a moment or two , " I shall answer your question to satiate your burning curiosity , Prince Nezha . "
The Third Lotus Prince wiped his sweaty brow as he panted heavily from his sudden outburst previously , listening intently and waiting impatiently for Arthur's answer as did the rest of the arena .
" Although ….. " Arthur suddenly said , causing Nezha to wince as his desire for an answer and closure was thwarted once again .
" I myself do not understand something , Prince Nezha ….. That being you becoming so obsessed with this particular topic ever since it has been brought to your attention . While I am ….. surprised , that you are so invested in my story , to say the least . I do not understand why a god of all people would be so concerned about my past disputes with my former ally , as well as being so appalled by the fact that I've made peace with him … Unless , "
Arthur looked at Nezha with an odd look , realization began to slowly dawn on the King of Camelot as he recalled what Nezha had said earlier . Easily considering people as friends to the Third Lotus Prince was a weakness , as it meant becoming vulnerable by opening yourself up to others and allowing them to potentially betray you . Hence , it was smarter to simply treat them as lowly supporters , people to hang around with and hype you up , yet no true meaningful connections were made between each other . Thus meaning that you were less susceptible to being backstabbed by others in Nezha's eyes .
But such a mindset could not have always been within a person's mind since their birth , it had to have been developed , cultivated after experiencing a rather unpleasant event in ones life , and seeing how worked up Nezha had become after learning that Arthur had done something that directly challenged this philosophy of his could only mean one thing …..
" Something happened between you and another ….. Am I right ? Someone … Someone from your past , who you once regarded as a close friend , they did something … Something to betray your trust … Something that hurt you so deeply that you could never trust others as easily as you did before . That's why you could not wrap your head around the fact that I chose to forgive Lancelot for what he did , isn't it ? "
Silence in the arena , as everyone turned to the Third Lotus Prince to see his reaction after Arthur's revelation . Nezha had become oddly silent after hearing Arthur's words , his breaths heavier as he tightly balled up his fist . Old , painful memories slowly flooded in from the back of his mind as he recalled the event that he had tried to forget for the past few centuries , yet was still so fresh and vivid that it could have just happened the day before .
" Yeah , " He murmured with a dark look on his face as his golden eyes turned a fiery red , the Third Lotus Prince's every word dripped with venom as he spoke , but not towards Arthur , rather Nezha spoke so bitterly about another individual , one who was no longer amongst the ranks of the living .
" Yep , something happened alright , " He growled , " And it taught me one VERY important lesson that I still follow to this day . You can't fully trust ANYONE , no matter WHO they are , or what they MEAN to you . Cause in the end , the person who stabs you in the back may just be the one who hurts the MOST . "

2024.04.03 13:09 Cerebral_Kortix Morgan is a Girlfailure - A Full Analysis

Morgan le Fay. The powerful and wise queen of Fae Britain, the cruel and vindictive witch of Camelot, sister to Artoria Pendragon, mother to Mordred Pendragon, one of the most powerful casters to ever exist in history... and a klutz in every way imaginable.
In the subsequent essay, I will illustrate why I believe this to be the case.

Main Story Girlfailures

Let's start with her most significant appearance in the Nasuverse, her Lostbelt form in Fate/Grand Order which is the one I will be covering primarily in this essay.
Morgan le Fay, or at this point, Rain witch Aesc, wakes up one morning, sees the greatest hellhole imaginable, a world so screwed up that even Kirschtaria Wodime, who gave a chance to Surt, a being who intended to destroy the entire planet, decided it needed to go, and she decides "Man, I want to save all of this."
Thus begins her adventure. She joins forces with the only half-decent people in Fairyland, and tries to unify the world. Surprisingly, she gets pretty damn far. Then, because she chose the single worst possible option for people to rule over, she gets screwed over and fails, watching her boyfriend die in her own hands before promptly getting brutally murdered herself.
Back to the beginning before all this via parasocial memory transfer, Aesc sees these events and then realises this was a complete and utter mistake. So, what does she do? Finally quit it and do the thing she was sent here to do?
She does it again.
Shenanigans happen in the future. Beryl literally screws everything up because he sleeps in instead of doing his job. An unrelated white haired woman appears and also decides "Man, I also really love shitholes. I'm going to be ruler of this place." because apparently every version of Morgan has no taste. She then ends her life and makes an unrelated other person queen because Morgan likes to live vicariously/has a deep problem with parasocial relationships.
Now Morgan le Fay, ruler of Fae Britain, Aesc-Morgan has the chance to do many things to finally improve this shithole country. What does she do to bring the salvation she had so long since wanted?
Build a big chair and sit in it for a while.
Why did she want to be ruler to this place when she hates every last thing about it but a single tiny fairy who doesn't even care if she becomes ruler or not (who she doesn't even remember due to plot reasons)? When she does absolutely nothing good with her rule? Who knows.
Morgan then realises she's past her menopause and decides she wants a kid. She finds the single genuinely good person in the world and adopts her. What does she do with this child?
Corrupts her till she becomes an emotionally unstable psychopathic mess and loses that tiny bit of good. Morgan then complains why she's like this as if she didn't literally raise her this way.
Morgan then meets Beryl asleep on the floor, remembers something that completely unrelated white-haired woman did, and forcefully marries this random guy because...? Beryl wakes up utterly flabbergasted that a shithole turned into even more of a shithole while he was asleep. He also pretty obviously hates her more than anything. Morgan responds to him telling her that he'd love to kill her... by doing absolutely nothing. And continuing to stay married to the person who would rather do literally anything else than be near her, and hates her to the core.
She is then utterly flabbergasted, completely caught by surprise and didn't ever expect this possibility, when Beryl causes her complete emotional destruction by sabotage, but that's way later in the future so I digress.
At some point, she presumably finds out Beryl was doing who knows what with her daughter... and just lets him continue taking care of her and be near her? Either that or she pays so little attention to her own daughter that she didn't register that, which is only slightly less worse.
Despite being one of the most powerful and intelligent casters in all history, possibly THE most powerful caster as Lostbelt King, she also just... doesn't notice Baobhan is using magic that is literally rotting her soul because she isn't paying attention to her daughter, instead thinking about... I dunno. What exactly does Morgan do with her free time? Spend it regretting her choices in life?
Also, side note: Morgan at one point sees one of the strongest monsters she's ever faced, and because Morgan's procrastination is apparently only second to Beryl himself going to sleep when the world was depending on him, she plans on sending it to her past, weaker self to deal with instead of doing it herself despite being perfectly capable of winning on her own. Aesc probably despises her future self for just keeping on dumping problems on her head to deal with instead of dealing with it herself. The only reason Morgan doesn't go through with this frankly incomprehensible plan is because someone else kills this beast.
Morgan is apparently so lax on security that her daughter steals her strongest bounded field and uses it on a sword and a guy literally named after Gouda cheese. This causes her daughter to become a hostage after it deteriorates her soul, and lends endless determination to both that cheese and sword to murder the queen because Morgan, in her infinite wisdom, has no countermeasures for people stealing her strongest most dangerous weapons. How did she not get herself killed?
Morgan then duplicates herself several times to beat the shit out of the cheese, sword, and the funny bug accompanying them. She gets backstabbed because why the hell would you trust fae to be in the same room as you and dies from bleeding out like a loser.
As Morgan dies, she considers that she may be a moron, as she realises that she LITERALLY NEVER TOLD HER DAUGHTER SHE LOVED HER. Also you know the very first line in the entirety of the Lostbelt 6 Fragments? It's Aesc wondering what Proper Human History/Chaldea would think of her kingdom. As Morgan dies, she probably realises "Huh, maybe I should have thought about asking that before trying to murder them?"
Thus ends Morgan's tale. In the main story anyway. What, you thought we were done here? No, Morgan's severe girlfailure tendencies continue on in Chaldea.

Chaldea Girlfailures

Morgan manifests. The very first thing she does? "Man, it'd be hilarious if I called that person who literally destroyed my kingdom my husband/wife because that would totally piss everyone off because... it just would, I'm sure."
Morgan then calls them her husband for a while much to everyone's confusion and later, indifference. Then she gets furious that nobody got her insult, so she rectifies this by... stopping calling them her husband? Explaining her insult?
...Nope, by actually acting like their wife.
This baffles Barghest, Baobhan and all her knights because they are not off their rockers and cannot understand why someone would think that could in any way be a funny joke, causing them to believe she is completely unironic and, being the good people they are, supporting her wholeheartedly in her romance.
Morgan then literally forgets she's doing this to insult Chaldea in her weird incomprehensible way and gaslights herself into fully believing she's really their wife with no outside interference or hell, even reciprocation- as far as we know the Master was trying to stay the hell away from her, and she still did this. Morgan just woke up and somehow gaslighted herself to believe she was in love with them and they loved her and they were in a happy loving marriage. It isn't even brainwashing, she just did that all on her own for no discernible reason.
Now fully convinced she's their wife, she becomes obsessively clingy for the person who literally destroyed her kingdom and-
-goes around trying to exterminate other berserkers to make that person fully reliant on her so she can spend more time with them [Source: Morgan My Room Bond Line 3]
-gets her daughter to build a chocolate nuclear missile with Castoria to vapourise the valentine gifts of any person other than her who gives her spouse chocolate for valentine's day because she's terrified of them cheating on her. [Source: Baobhan Sith Valentine's Scene]
-Literally gets a wedding ring implying she's somehow succeeded in actually tying the knot and goes around proudly showing it to everyone in her skill animations and this action is so pleasing to her that it gives a massive power boost because Morgan has apparently unlocked the physical manifestation of the power of love.
Also, she continues to be insane to even greater heights than before, as [take this with some salt since I'm not JP and am probably getting some details wrong] she organises an entire competition with the Master, her spouse, as a prize under a bizzare scheme to rig it by sending Melusine to compete for her so that she can win the Master as prize and have them visit her summer mansion... instead of just asking them to do so like a normal person? No "Hey, husband/wife, want to visit my summer mansion" Morgan is apparrently one of the coders working for Lasengle with their spaghetti code and absolutely needs to go about everything in the most complicated way imaginable.
Thought we were done? Nope, we still have more to cover. Wouldn't ya know it, Morgan le Fay being possibly on the spectrum isn't even a Nasu original- that's right!
Morgan is a girlfailure in her original myths too! FGO Morgan is lore accurate!
And thus we come forth to-

Arthurian Mythos Girlfailures

Morgana le Fay, the cruel, cold adulterous witch of Britain. ...Also a massive softie and kind of dumb.
Morgan was put in an arranged marriage with a guy named King Urien. In Fate, he's King Lot. Regardless, all you need to know is that Morgan hated him, and he didn't really care for her much either.
In order to spite him, Morgan earns her reputation as adulterous by sleeping with other guys a bunch [Well, that's to question on account of Arthurian mythos having more iterations than there are Saberfaces, but let's just run with that for now]. Eventually, she comes upon a guy named Accolon.
Accolon is a complete moron with a heart of gold and so incredibly, utterly stupid and naive and wholesome that he decides to love and support Morgan, the cold and vindictive witch thought to be emotionless beyond spite. Basically, imagine Shirou if there was a Shinji route. He does this with so much unconditional love, that it utterly baffles Morgan, tries to make her attempt to use him as a tool since a fully loyal knight who loves you should make for a useful thing, but Accolon goes all in on the unconditional love train as in fully unconditional love, not just lust, and this scares, confuses, and shocks Morgan so much that she's rendered incapable of doing literally anything but falling heads over heels utterly and completely in love with someone so stupid they'd willingly and truly love a woman literally known for being adulterous and manipulative. Morgan is so flabbergasted by his blind kindness that she experiences an evilness stack overflow and loops back around to being a loyal, faithful and loving partner for Accolon.
As described in the Post-Vulgate Suite du Merlin: "She loved him so madly that she desired to kill her husband [King Urien] and her brother [King Arthur], for she thought she could make Accolon king, either by the devil's help or by magic or by entreaty of the nobles of Great Britain."
So yeah. You know Morgan's whole schtick about trying to become Queen of Britain? It's because she wanted to be the ruler, yes, but it's also because she really badly wanted this adorable idiot to be king so she could actually marry him.
This story then ends with Morgan concocting a convoluted plan to get Accolon to fight with Arthur because Morgan is incapable of realising she could just run away with him to the woods and live out happily there, which predictably ends with Accolon getting killed because
A: He didn't know he was fighting Arthur.
B: He was given Excalibur which is a very touching gesture since it's the great sword and Morgan stole it just for him, but he'd also never used it a day in his life.
C: It's King fing Arthur, he's not fighting that and living, Morgan was high out of her mind on love to think he could fight *and win let alone **live.
Morgan is so distraught by this that she throws Avalon, the sheathe, in a river, causing all of Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night.
And ALL this tragedy could have been avoided if Morgan had just stopped being needlessly convoluted about everything and said "Accolon, I really like you and want to make you king." so that Accolon could explain that he didn't want to be king.
Accolon literally takes until his deathbed to realise Morgan genuinely cared for him because Morgan refuses to just properly confess from her heart and instead flirts with him saying things like "My love for you will not wain come winter nor fall so let's get that sword off between us and bang", which just ends up with him thinking he's another fling for her since you know, she's known as a seductress, even if he loves her regardless because unconditional love.
Morgan was too much of a girlfailure to make the single person she loved more than anything in the world realise she actually loved them until they were literally dying and could put piece to piece together.
...
And you know the best part?
Morgan in FGO says the name Accolon in one of her battle lines.
This makes Accolon canon to PHH Morgan.
LB Morgan had PHH Morgan's memories, thus including her regrets at failing to properly confess to Accolon till the end then.
DESPITE THIS, LB Morgan STILL doesn't tell her daughter Baobhan she loved her till it was too late.
So, Morgan le Fay, wise and intelligent queen of Britain, she has all her information from PHH and her LB versions, and STILL MAKES THE EXACT SAME MISTAKES.
Morgan isn't just a girlfailure, she's the Girlfailure2.
