2024.05.16 04:54 danfutrell For most Americans, college is broken. We're building a new model.
For most Americans, college is no longer working. A bachelor's degree doesn’t reliably guarantee what universities say it delivers: an investment that prepares you for the workplace and the world. While the income gap between college and high school grads is well documented, the wealth gap is “indistinguishable from zero” due to unconstrained costs, regardless of race or ethnicity. Put differently, college grads will earn more but because of their student loans, they’ll have the same amount in their bank account as someone who didn’t go to college at all
1 . Barely one in ten (11%) business leaders believe that college graduates have the skills and competencies that their workplaces need
2 . Instead, employers report recent hires showing up without the requisite skills required to contribute as productive employees
3.
Traditional universities spend more on non-instructional initiatives like research and athletics instead of developing knowledge and skills that prepare its students. Today, 1M students annually report that they didn’t enroll or they dropped out of college because of the cost
4 . Americans carry $1.8T in student loan debt while universities have increased the cost of tuition by 30-40%
5 since 2010. Economists report that over the next ten years, businesses will have increasingly more job openings for college graduates with no adequate supply
6 . Additionally, as artificial intelligence threatens jobs across industries, humans will be pushed up or out – up to more intellectually intensive and integrative roles, or out of the workforce altogether. Our nation’s economy needs a sustainable, accessible, and effective approach to college if we’re to compete globally.
SOLUTION Polymath University will produce more-prepared graduates through a three-major curriculum, delivered year-round and remotely to same-city cohorts, who will serve apprenticeships en route to graduation in three years.
A polymath is someone who has built depth, breadth, and integration of knowledge. Specifically, polymaths can operate fluently and with expertise (depth) in three or more non-adjacent domains (breadth), and have built the critical skill of applying concepts and frameworks in one domain to complex problems in other domains (integration). Polymath University empowers leaders and problem solvers to thrive in a more complex and technologically-enabled world.
RANGE Polymath University’s approach to education, and its namesake, is built on ensuring that graduates are curious, creative, collaborative, and critically-minded. Polymaths have been proven to be more creative and more adept at solving complex problems, and more resilient against economic shocks
7. Building a broad, generalist field of knowledge and expertise, as opposed to the hyper-specialization that traditional higher education encourages, makes graduates more valuable in the world and workplace. According to a 2012 study of serial innovators
8, polymaths are described as having a high tolerance for ambiguity and as systems thinkers. Polymaths can connect disparate pieces of information in new ways, making them highly effective at innovative problem solving. And they are adept at repurposing what is already available and synthesizing information from many different sources.
9 A Future of Jobs report highlighted the following skills being increasingly demanded by employers (all of which polymaths excel at): creative thinking; analytical thinking; technological literacy; curiosity and lifelong learning; resilience, flexibility, and agility; and systems thinking.
10 REAL-WORLD APPRENTICESHIPS Polymath University will partner with employers to ensure that its degree programs serve the talent acquisition needs of regional business and organizations, and that those degrees include skill development that is often short-changed by traditional universities. In years two and three, students will serve as apprentices with those employer partners in high-demand, early career roles. Across the country, more employers are building apprenticeship programs as a key part of their talent acquisition strategy, with Department of Labor registered apprenticeships doubling since 2010 to 250,000. Many of these employers pay some or all of the tuition for their apprentices to concurrently earn a college degree.
REMOTE Educational outcomes lead all other priorities for Polymath University, and we must hold this as our north star. This means that the most important activity for faculty will be teaching or the associated development through coaching and mentoring their students. As Polymath University is led by the former CEO of the Pat Tillman Foundation, and counts ten Tillman Scholars on its Advisory Board, the Tillman Scholar community will seed Polymath University’s initial set of faculty, drawing on their service and academic experiences to support student learning. Courses will be delivered remotely, but to same-city cohorts that will facilitate week-long immersive and collaborative in-person experiences as well as informal study groups throughout the year, unlocking persistent relationships and networks within our community.

2024.05.16 04:50 TheForce122 I figured out who created SARS-COV-2
| Nathan Wolfe (Rothschild-Epstein-Maxwell asset) of DARPA/EcoHealth/Gates Foundation ran the COVID-19 creation operation with Peter Daszak of EcoHealth via the Global Virome Project (Wuhan Lab). Nathan Wolfe dedicated his book "Viral Storm" to Israeli spy Jeffrey Epstein and Bill Gates and is BFF with Israeli spy Ghislaine Maxwell. "Did virus hunters cover up a lab leak?" (Good article about the Global Virome Project headed by Nathan Wolfe and Peter Daszak) https://archive.is/G8Lp8 "Hunter Biden's Ukraine BioLab Partner (Nathan Wolfe) Was Partners With Ghislaine Maxwell" https://archive.is/0BxQM Documentary on Nathan Wolfe: https://youtu.be/Q8UgtUtDDp8?si=rtVbLNeSElmDwTkz Bill Gates 9/4/19 $55 million BioNTech mRNA vaxx creator investment: https://archive.is/IP0b9 Elon/Grimes 9/4/19 tablet: https://archive.is/s7kJT Former EcoHealth VP Andrew Huff September 2019 DARPA weird job offer: https://twitter.com/AGHuff/status/1492249880546398215 Former EcoHealth VP Dr. Andrew Huff legal declaration confirming EcoHealth funded by Bill Gates and CIA (In-Q-Tel) and that Peter Daszak told him he was working with CIA: https://archive.is/iZL1N "Redfield: COVID-19 Was in Wuhan in September or October 2019: Former CDC director also tells CNN that the virus likely escaped from a lab" https://www.med pagetoday.com/special-reports/exclusives/91843 - https://archive.is/YsEui "COVID-19 might have started to spread in September 2019 in the United States: study" https://archive.is/NpOqY On the 12th Sep 2019, the main database of samples and viral sequences of the Wuhan Institute of Virology went offline. Eventually every single of the 16 virus databases managed by the WIV was taken offline. https://archive.is/i79eW Here's former CDC director Robert Redfield under oath before the Congress on Wuhan Lab September 2019 events: https://www.youtube.com/live/aXXWRaM-sWQ?feature=share I will say if you go back and look, it's declassified now, and I'm sure you all have your classified briefings, but the declassified information now: In September of 2019, three things happened in that lab, one is they deleted the sequences, that was highly irregular, researchers don't usually like to do that Second thing they did was they changed the command and control of the lab from the civilian control to the military control. Highly unusual, and I've been involved in dual use labs when I was in the military. And the third thing they did which I think is really telling is they let a contractor redo the ventilation system in that laboratory. So I think clearly there was strong evidence that there was a significant event that happened in that laboratory in September. It's now been declassified, you can read it. I'm sure there's more classified information around it. Scientist Richard Ebright The relevance of this is that SARS Cov-2, the pandemic virus, is the only virus in its entire genus of SARS-related coronaviruses that contains a fully functional cleavage site at the S1, S2 junction. And here is a proposal from the beginning of 2018 [from Fauci/Gates-funded EcoHealth Alliance] proposing explicitly to engineer that sequence at that position in chimeric lab- generated coronaviruses. Eminent Virologist David Baltimore of CalTech When I first saw the furin cleavage site in the viral sequence, with its arginine codons, I said to my wife it was the smoking gun for the origin of the virus. These features make a powerful challenge to the idea of a natural origin for SARS2. Former CDC Director Robert Redfield: I was concerned because of the presence of the furin cleavage site that we've talked about and I think it's important to understand what that cleavage site does. That cleavage site totally changes the orientation of the binding domain of COVID, so where before it could not see the ACE2 receptor which is the human receptor, it totally changes the orientation now so it has high affinity for human receptors. So that furin cleavage site bothered me, it didn't seem like it belonged there. And then if you look at the sequences they use in those 12 nucleotides for arginine, where the arginine sequence nucleotide triplet were coded for humans. So why did it have the arginine coding for humans and not bat? It was very disconcerting to me. It looked like this virus was engineered. It's not scientifically plausible that this virus went from a bat to humans and became one of the most infectious viruses that we have for humans. Scientist Valentin Bruttel: I tried to raise awareness to this for a year now. WIV use BsaI and BsmBI/Esp3I sites before to make synthetic WIV1 variants. And exactly those sites appear in a "silently introduced, perfect for synthetic assembly" pattern in SARS2, but non of its nat. relatives. seriously, what is the chance that exactly those type IIs restriction appear or disappear through random evolution in a Banal-20-52 like virus? 5-6 precise mutations in 30000bp? about 1 in 1020! SARS2 is clearly synthetic! Type Ils restriction sites prove a synthetic origin Synthetic RNA viruses are assembled at the DNA level and later transcribed. 30,000 nucleotides cannot be synthesized in one go. These viruses are therefore assembled from smaller, 2- 8,000 nucleotide long pieces. Specific DNA restriction sites are often added to later reassemble the individual building blocks in the correct order. It is also technically possible to hide these interfaces (No See'em), but this was not done in the WIV. In a 2017 paper, two very specific, particularly suitable type Ils restriction enzymes were used at the WIV. These have the advantage that they can produce different DNA overhangs (sticky ends), which are crucial for a correct assembly of the complete genome: Bsal and BsmBI. SARS2 shows a Bsal and BsmBI restriction site pattern which is ideal for assembling synthetic viruses and to later replace the spike protein or furin cleavage site. Bsal and BsmBI restriction sites also exist in closely related viruses (Banal20-52, RaTG13), but these are distributed in such a way that an artificial virus could never be generated using the methods established at WIV 2018/19. The probability that the required 5 synonymous mutations, which enable a synthetic assembly of SARS2, arose purely by chance is less than 1 in 1020 or about as likely as winning the lottery jackpot 3 times in a row. 2024.05.16 03:02 Merica721 What’s the best thing to do with my situation?
I owe about 120k on a house I bought for 170 interest rate is below 4 percent
I have that in an individual brokerage, I’ve had the money in it since the 1st of the year, I’ve made about 15k.
I have about another 40k in my savings. Should I pay off my house ? Or keep the the money in my stock account and just keep making minimum mortage payments?
I have 90k in a sep ira
I’m mid 30’s
I have a small business with a decent chunk saved up in business checking (enough to keep my business healthy )I’m a contractor, I’ve gone back and forth about putting money into my business and try to scale , but that relies heavily on finding labor. And so far I’ve just wasted money on that. I’m kind of accepting the fact that I’m going to just be a one crew business and I’d be ok with the money coming in, even though it’s physically demanding.
I would greatly appreciate some input, the people I ask in my everyday life give contradicting advice.

2024.05.16 02:59 Dsg1695 Since hashtags seem to not be working as well as they used to, what are some tips to increase likes?
The last time hashtags really worked for me was when I was at an event Sep last year & had the event exclusive hashtags along with a few other general ones. It also kind of worked at a concert last fall & another event this year but I felt I had to keep reposting the hashtags in the comment section a few times with not as much attention compared to when I used them in previous posts. Not to mention I’m usually private but go public when I use the hashtags. Advice? And are there tips that can help especially if you’ve already posted?

2024.05.16 02:06 jmutiny1993 20 day Europe Itinerary Advice
My wife and I are planning a 20 day Europe trip, from Aug 14 -Sep 3. We will leave from Houston, Texas. This is our first time in Europe, we are both 30 and are decently fit, we can manage long walking and some beginner-medium hikes/trails. We don't smoke or drink, and enjoy immersive activites but also love visiting historial sights like musuems, etc.
We plan on visiting Manchester, London, Paris, Switzerland, and Italy. Below are the days we want to set aside for each.
Manchester: 2.5
London: 4
Paris: 2.5
Switzerland: 3.5
Italy: 4.5
Flight Days (Houston - Manchster, Rome - Houston): 2
We plan on flying in directly to Manchster and working our way through these countries/cities to end in Rome and fly back from there. I had a couple of questions about our trip.
1) Is there any issue with the dates we picked, should we know about any events, weather, or anything else? I know the Olympics are in Paris but we will be there more than a week after they finish. If the dates need to be moved around we are open to that.
2) Is there any issue with the route we picked? What would be the best methods of transport? I assume train would be best. Any passes we should look into getting?
3) For Italy/Switzerland what would be the best cities/locations in your opinion to visit. I know this is a hard question to answer and varies from person to person.
4) Are there any other things we should book in advance?
5) Any other general tips or advice?

I've read enough on here (and elsewhere) to feel fairly confident in this plan, but a little feedback would be great as I'm relatively new to investing on my own.
Background: 31yo, have been with a FA for ~9 years who steered me into American Funds. (Currently 80k AMCAP, 80k AMRMX in an investment account and 40k CWGIX, 40k ANCFX in a Roth IRA. These have .57-.75% expense ratios.) FA wants to move things to comparable Schwab ETFs and would charge .5% annually (plus maybe they make other commissions depending on the funds? Feels obfuscated.).
Plan: Ditch the FA and move funds into 3 Vanguard accounts - brokerage, Roth IRA, and (new for me) SEP IRA.
Would put a 2055 tdf (VFFVX) in both SEP and Roth and 63/27/10% resp. into US/Int/Bnd index funds for the brokerage (VTSAX, VTIAX, and VBTLX). Reason being, tdf better in the tax-advantaged, and slight tax/expense ratio advantage & ability to tinker with the 3-fund (versus VTWAX or tdf) in the brokerage.
Contributions to SEP and Roth would come first (~10-15k/year) and anything else (up to 5k, variable due to self-employment) in the brokerage. Any rebalancing done through contributions or once a year.
Also have 100k I want available as a potential home down payment to put in a HYSA or MM with Vanguard and 30k in stock gifts that I'm thinking to leave as is (equal parts MSFT, NKE, ARKK - the latter at FA's suggestion instead of JNJ). *And I have an emergency fund with ~1 year's expenses. No plans for children with my partner.
Thoughts or glaring oversights?

2024.05.15 19:39 LearnToSwim6 I already punched the vol sep button. My date is 30 July 24. But I forgot I was promotion eligible…
If I could cross train I’d stay active duty. But I seriously cannot continue to do this same job anymore.
BUT I totally forgot I was promotion eligible. I highly doubt I’ll make MSgt this is year but if I do it really would suck to get that pay increase just to leave.
Ugh. Now come the conflicting thoughts.

2024.05.15 19:28 spatimouth01 Am I in the wrong?
My roommate wants to leave, I'm okay with that. Her conflict resolution and lack of communication skills, coupled by her severe autism doesn't make for a good situation. She found herself in a bad situation in her last apartment and I bailed her out by allowing her to be a user on one of my credit cards. She charged it to the max. I was okay with that as long as she made extra payments and I was willing to give her as much time as she needed to take care of it. So forward to now, I'm not interested in continuing a friendship with her after she is off the lease, but I am holding back letting her out of the lease until the card is paid. I recommended that she get a loan for it. Our lease ends in Sep 2025. I feel if I give her what she wants she will just walk out of her promise to pay what she charged I will be stuck with the bill.
Is it unreasonable for me to not agree to dropping her from the lease until this condition is met?
