Almost caught up this week! Check back in a little bit for the rest (including questions), I'll try to prioritize it. And apologies, in advance, for the stench of meat and burnt hair.

Chapter Summaries

Chapter 9 - Finding Words

Tenar goes to the lord manor during the haying, she talks with the workers there and they view the leather capped man, Handy, as shifty but with nothing wrong particularly. They are reticent to talk to her or anyone else however. She runs across the wizard from before, Aspen, and it turns sour quickly after a real poor showing from him. As she leaves he starts to attack her magically, but is interrupted just in time from the king's men from Havnor. They stop him but are still cordial to him, politics as usual. Tenar gives the men some information about Ged and thankfully they aren't reproachful, when Ged doesn't get back to them they accept this and sail off. Tenar finds little reason to stay around but it would hurt to leave so she just keeps Therru closer than ever, and the days pass. Aunty Moss looks into it and there's a rumor that the wizard from Roke, Aspen, was contacted after the death of the grandson's mother, and the wizard supposely was helping keep the grandfather alive by siphoning the youth's life force. Therru is actually doing pretty good, she gets some interesting toys and even started to learn a trade. Tenar worries about what Ogion said about "teaching" however and one afternoon tries to teach Therru about the true word for "stone", but something slightly odd yet poignant happens. That night, Tenar is wracked with anxieties and evil thoughts, she even bolts from bed and throws down countersigns for a curse. There's a weird smell in the house. The next day she picks up some fabric in town with Therru and is attacked with a shower of stones ("stones" again). Arriving back at the house it is apparent somebody was there. Furthermore, her thinking gets really muddled, she relies on Kargish to get through what's likely a curse. They abandon the desecrated place but not before watering Therru's peach tree and taking Ogion's great books (dumping the fabric in the process). They stay off the main road and the words (Hardic and true) slowly come back to her, she even picks up a stone, says its true name, and carries it. They arrive in Gont Port and the plan is to camp in a forest but instead they run into the leather capped man. They flee to a Havnor ship and are stopped by a sailor. The leather capped man, Handy, first says he wanted to help them (like he helped alert the women to Therru when she was burned) and grabs Therru, breaking Tenar's promise that he would never touch her. A younger sailor arrives, and Handy switches his strategy, suddenly Tenar is a witch that has stolen his niece. The young sailor lets her on the deck while he looks into things and Tenar collapses, begging them not to let him take her, not to let "them" have her, not again, not again.
In-depth Summary

Chapter 10 - Dolphin

Tenar comes around from exhaustion, and promptly realizes the young sailor is actually King Lebannen (aka Arren from the last book). They were actually seeking her out and thought maybe she came there because she had heard this. Lebannen agrees to take her to her old farm in Middle Valley on Gont. Therru is put to bed by the king and Tenar relays the terrible things that have befallen them, particularly with Therru which is worse than what's been outright stated. Tenar feels they will be safe where they are going, and she talks to Labannen about Ged instead. Of particular note is that Tenar claims people of ill will are after him, there's also a comparison drawn between the land of the dead's mountain, Pain, its stone, Tenar's stone, and Ged's damaged hands. Ged needs healing and has lost his patience, to be replaced with self-reproachment. The next morning, Therru is hard to rouse, she might be in fever and the place where Handy has grabbed her is noticeably marked. On the high prow Tenar meets in particular the Master Windkey of Roke Island, who actually trained Ged as a child. Unfortunately, Tenar finds him close-minded to her throughout this chapter in various ways. A very weathered sailor presents Therru a carved ivory or bone dolphin, which Therru puts with her other dolls, but even now she doesn't thank the man (she leaves that to Tenar) and she retires soon after. Tenar goes back to the king and the weatherworker and they talk about their search for a new archmage. It's mentioned Thorion from the last book has perished which is one of the reasons the king was there on Roke. The wizards congregate in the Grove and eventually the Master Patterner says in Kargish, "A woman on Gont." Nothing else is known, but they did remember Tenar's adventures, so here they are. The mage asks her if she would lead them to anyone (nope), or if she knew of any woman it might be (also nope). Tenar tries to mention the evils as of late (the gangs, what happened with Therru, the wizards' and witches' power lessening or changing, even the wizard's influence changing with the new kingship) but is ignored, the Master Windkey says the wizard's power structure and art will be healed (over a long time) now that Cob from the last book is defeated. After the Master Windkey leaves Tenar and Lebannen have a bit of shorthand, she implies that the woman might be Therru, at leaast one day. Tenar relays her immediate plans and Labannen says he'll visit if he can. Also, he will forbid the wizards from bothering Ged.

she has a narc husband and narc MIL. Comes to our house for months at a time, and tries to gain sympathy constantly by showing how difficult her life is. Instead of breaking the cycle she has made our lives hell.
She tells my husband she doesn’t know who is influencing him to do things differently than the way she does, because apparently he cannot have his own opinion. She keeps on asking my husband does your wife come first or your mother?
Refuses to go to her other child’s house because she will ‘not be as comfortable as she is in our house’ there in spite of kicking around and screaming about how she doesn’t feel ‘at home’ in our home.
Constantly tries to meddle in our plans and wants to come wherever we go. When DH stands up to her she makes him count the things she has done and the money she has spent on him and how he could never repay them for what they have done for him.
Believes in giving her other child complete freedom and that parents should not interfere in plans and that the other kid has a life of their own but there is no concept of space with us, she thinks she is entitled to do whatever we are doing.
She wanted to come on an international trip with us because she hasn’t travelled in her life and if she doesn’t go with her son who will she go with? Of course she has not been allowed to do so.
She refuses to leave her husband and talks shit about him all the time but if anyone else says anything, she blows up at them saying he’s a very good person (he’s an asshole)
While i sympathize for how tough her life (abuse) has been i do feel now she would be the core of many issues that have been caused. She progressively gets worse with age and starts screaming and shouting when boundaries are enforced.
Keeps on saying i dont want to leave ur house because this is my house too in spite of being told she needs to go. We have managed to get her to fuck off and booked her flight tickets but she is hell bent on coming back in 2 months after staying for 6 months to which we have said no. The only thing left to do is slam the door in her face now.
DH and I barely talk to her now because of how she behaves.

Mercuralia: May 15th one of the two stand-alone festivals for Mercury/Hermes. Supposedly, another Mercuralia occurs July 14-19.

Look for his signs everywhere especially on the radio, TV, adds, billboards, license plates, birds, and overheard conversations. Feel him in the wind and softy falling spring rain. Smell the fresh spring air laden with the scent of spring blossoms. Burn incense that is floral in nature. Do some banking today or make a wise investment. Send a letter to a friend or family member who you haven't spoken to in a while. Tend your garden, yard or local park.

I feel like I don't even consider myself young anymore. I'm already 27, yet I don't even have my life toghter. When I read post on Reddit on several subs it makes me feel depressed like how are this young adults already making 6 figure salary or have the ability to work remotely. Some have already saved x amount of money for retirement or for the first property like house. It's like what am I doing. My stupid doubts and weakness of oh I'm not tech savvy, bad at math and science, bad at socializing all this kind of stuff seems to create boundaries. Yet majority of jobs that pay well require a functing adult that has some skills to perform their jobs. I still feel like an adult child or some sort of imposter syndrome. I talked with my college advisor several times but I couldn't get any sort of advice. Most people in college mainly focusing in for computer science majors. I'm in community college and at this age I still have no clear path or little direction of where I wanna go. What I wanna do. This feels depressing

I was always finding myself with zero money left every last week of the month.
Every last week of the month I would make a resolution that from next month it won't be so.
But it just kept on happening. Relatable? Hmm.
There's a way to twist this on its own head.
That's BUDGETING. It's nothing but A plan for spending money, monthly.
Here are some elements involved in budgeting before we start the budget:
Income - this is money coming in. Through salary, or YouTube earnings, etc.
Fixed expense - Expenses that occur monthly regularly. Like, mobile data plans.
Variable Expense - These are expenses that may occur and may not occur monthly. Like, eating a fat pizza 🍕.
Savings - Money allocated for savings. Yeah, it's the beginning, boy.
Debt repayment - Money Allocated for debt repayment, remember that guy that you got $50 six months ago, yes. That's that.
Alright, so now you know that, let's get to budgeting.
There are many ways to budgeting, but you can select the one which suits you and your lifestyle.
There are four good budgeting methods to make your monthly finance operations silky smooth.
They are:
50/30/20 Budgeting - here 50% of your monthly income goes to “needs”, 30% goes to “wants” & 20% goes to savings. Yes. (Difference between “needs” and “wants” post link here)
Zero-Based Budgeting - As the name suggests, zero is left at last.
That doesn't mean you don't save. It includes savings as well.
In this budgeting, without any strict percentage rule, money is allocated to your monthly expenses for each category like rent, savings, bills, etc, and at last each dollar is put towards something.
Pay Yourself First - Here you're given priority, at last, first.
Here you save rightway a percentage for yourself first, before you even consider budgeting.
After you're paid i.e., savings are taken care of first, then dollars for other expenses are allocated.
The 60% Solution - Here 60% of your money is portioned to fixed expenses, 10% to irregular expenses, like going on a date, and 30% to flexible spending such as entertainment, that fat pizza you remember?.
Let's take a look at an example for 50/30/20 method.
Here 50% of your income goes to needs - like food, gasoline, mobile bills, all other monthly bills.
Then, 30% goes to wants - like upgrading to a new mobile, Tinder Plus, YouTube Premium, That fat pizza, I mean monthly once ok, right.
Then 20% goes to savings. Create a new savings account. Put it there. Let it sit there.
If you got some leftovers in the other 80%, just put it in here at last. It will help you in ways you can't imagine.
Why the hell do you want to budget? Here's why mate:
Because -
It helps to avoid overspending on certain areas of expenses.
It allows you to save that you'd otherwise spend on dumb things.
Get better control of your savings & expenses.
It keeps you financially stable.
It helps you to avoid sudden unexpected cash rock-bottoms.
And that's it guys. That's a good foundation for your budgeting journey.

1: Postings in another sub mentioning our sub in a negative context, leading to a huge influx of people abusing the "report" function², or otherwise interfering with the sub in bad faith
2: e.g. a posting from a reputable "quality news"/"mainstream" news source³ (without any added context or opinion from OP) is instantly reported because of nonsense reasons. Sometimes it's even obvious that users do this on purpose, because they wrote it in the original thread of the other sub: "I'll report them so the sub gets deleted", paraphrasing.
One of our hardest rules is: leave other communities alone, don't mention other subs in a negative context because it leads to brigading, which is BS and especially we as mods know how tiresome and useless these situations (users of subs battling each other) are.
Even if you don't link the other sub directly with the "....", we still enforce it hard - and it works: users even refrain from reporting such postings in other communities, and just directly write me a message, because them reporting it for brigading could be seen as brigading itself -> tldr: we do a lot to not interfere with other communities.
But my problem is: what should I actually do about the problem? - waiting it out didn't work. Tried it for 8 weeks+, they don't grow tired of it. - there's no direct way to report for brigading. - I thought about contacting the mods of the other sub, but as it's possible they might be cool with what the users do, I don't really know how to best approach this issue
Tldr: we enforce Reddit and local rules stringent and timely, but the significant amount of spam-reports might be an issue for the existence of our sub. Not even talking about how it's a huge waste of time for us mods. -> experienced mods, pls help, input is very much appreciated 🥹👉👈 ;)

Hi i'm (24m), i was pursuing Diploma Final year in CSE, i was planning to do my (B.E in lateral entry) i stopped styding in 2016 due to family issue and lost my job after covid, later i didn't get any job except zomoto delivery job,u guys know that's not a future, soo i talked with mom and went for continue studies

Over a year later I’m back to update everyone who has been asking. Feel free to read my other posts for more details but my original post is below with a final update after.
Two days ago my son “J” (17) came to my job upset & crying. He told me my step daughter “K”(19) came home with a ton of new things & when he checked his room the $ he had been saving was gone. K doesn’t have a job & when she does have $ she spends it like it’ll burn a hole in her pocket. My boss let me go home early & I went home to ask K who took her shopping? K told me she used her own $. I told her to tell me the truth & she told me to “mind my own business”. J has been working at Papa Murphy’s & has been saving it. He was saving to surprise the dad of his friend who passed away (Beau) for his 1st birthday without him. His friends had given him $ to load onto his card to pay at the pump. It’s this weekend for 2 days & they were going to “treat” dad. Most kids would be saving for their 1st car or cool clothes, but he wanted to just “be there” for his friend's dad.
Instead of arguing back & forth with K, I checked the camera we have to check on the dogs. It only caught her legs but it was K going into J’s room. The rule in my house is we don’t go into each other's room, it’s a mutual respect of privacy. I told K she was caught & that she needed to get everything to return it all. K started throwing every excuse “I had it saved for months”,”how do you know it was me?”, “someone must have broken in”.
Her mom came home & she burst into tears, saying we were ganging up on her. I showed my wife the video & what happened, K ended up saying “Why does he get to have all the money anyway!!?”. He worked his ass off. I told my wife she needed to make K return everything & she said no that it would be “embarrassing” to return it all & that when K got a job she would repay J. I said “It’ll be more embarrassing when she gets arrested for stealing $400”.
We argue & I tell my wife K broke a non negotiable rule as well as the law by stealing, she is 19, she doesn’t pay rent & needs to leave. My wife says “if you kick her out I’m going too”. So I asked if she was willing to replace the money stolen (we have separate bank accounts), force K to return, or she could give me her half of the rent early (we split all bills), “no”. They packed a few bags & left, I was not going to rip the bags of stuff out of her hands. I don’t think getting physical would have been the smartest thing to do. Before you make me out to be the asshole, I do not have extra money for him to still go. I can only replace the small amount back to his friends & it’s not enough to make the trip. He went to bed without eating & has been crushed.
I posted to a sub AITA & was flooded with people telling me I should have called the police. So this morning that is what I did. The solution was that the officer would call my wife to bring K to the station to talk or she could return the items & pay back J. Sort of a scare tactic because I was told it is a civil matter.
My wife straight up fucking lied to the officer & said she gave the money to K. Since I don’t have actual proof of J’s money, no proof other than her walking into his room, nothing can be done. I’m LIVID. I literally watched J get his heart broken at the police station. Through tears he said “how could they do this to me, what was this all for, I just wanted to see Beau’s dad”.
J is my son from a previous relationship. I had to lecture him on not keeping large amounts of cash in his room but he didn’t think it would get stolen. My wife & K have support, staying with family, this won’t affect them.
A good lawyer combined with police who didn’t give a shit and a prosecutor who wouldn’t charge K with anything, K is free. It’s almost too frustrating to even explain a year later but I had so many people asking. The packages were sent to my house and in my name so I couldn’t prove it was her. I couldn’t prove she stole J’s money. Every card she applied for and opened was acquired using my SSN and Driver's license so it was basically my fault she got ahold of my wallet. I couldn’t prove shit.
I’m still teaching and living in a cheap efficiency apartment. J is thriving but is currently stranded 14 hours from home at college where he will stay until I’m able to come up with the gas to go get him. K and my ex wife ruined my fucking life.

Alright this is my first time posting ever on reddit so be kind you weirdos haha but I truly don’t know what to do...
I’ve been very blessed and fortunate that my parents created a savings account for me to buy my first home.
Context I finished my MA and moved back home to save some cash to buy a house. I moved home about a year and a half ago, I met my now boyfriend (he’s doing an apprenticeship in town and wants to move back to his hometown when he’s finished, 7hours away.) We’ve been dating for 7months. I’ve managed to save up money (not a crazy amount ~15k) to start at least looking around. My parents then told me about the savings account they have for me (~30k). I’ve been now invested in finding a place. I found a place last week (an intensive fixer upper, like I’m talking gutting it from ground up) but it’s my dream location in my hometown by the water and I love the idea of making it my own (obviously with a lot of time, money, and help)!! I brought this up to my boyfriend and he’s been stone walling me with everything I bring up with me buying this house? Saying things like “that’s going to take years to fix”, “that’s going to cost so much to fix”, etc. Like I already know this?? But it’s giving me more of “if you do this we’re through” vibes… and I just don’t know what to do or say to him that I haven’t already… Is this him finding a way out because he wants to move back to his hometown? Is he jealous? I want to be with him, he’s truly the man of my dreams, but are we just in different places in life?
