After years it's time to put this old pc to rest and get a better one.
Now, i know close to nothing about pc parts, but according to my limited knowledge:
I picked an i7 processor because i use softwares for content creation as a hobby, and i'm sure an i5 is not cut for that.
I picked an older CPU model because i think it won't make that much difference from the very newest models, am i wrong about this?
For a graphics card i'm not sure if i should pick a 3070 or or a 4060.
On one side a 4060 consumes less and might be better for single player games, but a 3070 seems to perform better in raw power and might be better for 3D softwares. With that said, i'm more inclined into buying a 4060.
As a cooler i chose a air one, is this a good idea or should i just go for a liquid one? I'm not interested in overclocking.
The RAM looks OK, didn't put too much thought into which model though.
As for the power supply, i chose the one with a low Watt usage since i don't want to consume too much.
I'll take care of the storage myself.
I also plan into putting my old 1060 in it so when i do some rendering i can use the 1060 to play games, i think it can work.
Is this a good setup?
I wanted to go for a white theme, unfortunataly i had to pick a black PSU.

Hello, i am currently on the look for a new GPU and the Radeon RX 6000 Series is looking perfect for me.
I want to get 180 FPS in Fortnite consistently on 1440p. The 1% and .1% lows should be as high as possible ofc. I might pick something between the RX 6600 and the Rx 6800. I also want to buy a new CPU and i havent decided yet but i'll take one of these two: Ryzen 7 5700X 3D or the 7 5800X 3D. My budget is around 600€.
So, are there any GPU which i mentioned earlier that are good for 1440p? And if i buy the 5800X 3D, i'll have less money for the GPU. But Fortnite is a CPU intensive game, so it should be worth it? Or is the 5700X 3D smarter to buy and i could get a better GPU?
Any ideas or help is hugely appreciated, thank you.

2024.05.15 16:00 AquaticArroww How to understand laptop components for beginners trying to buy a laptop (For you Laptop enthusiasts and pros you can just skip this..) WARNING: THIS IS EXTREMELY LONG

Processors: There are two brands. named AMD ryzen and intel core. they both have their own shares of powerful specs. the difference between the two?
Amd: it is technically more cheaper when laptops have this, it has "better" multi tasking than intel and also usually has a long battery life.
Intel: It is used for high power and "flagship" laptops. it has better single core performance than ryzen making it a better processor for gaming. (Usually btw).
All processors have a suffix. for example intel core i7 13620(H) HK and HX are the highest performance with all SKU's unlocked "This means that they can unlock better features. this is known by the last 3 digits. the higher number it makes it better." P and U stands for power efficient and is usually optimized for thinner and lighter laptops, U is also in the same category as Y being a power efficient processor. while Y is low- power efficient. i believe this is the same with ryzen.
GPU: there are 3 brands "4 technically" Intel, Amd Radeon and Nvidia. Intel is used for work laptops usually and only light gaming can be used. Amd radeon on the other hand is a cheaper alternative to Nvidia and can handle Gaming. just not in highest graphics or whatever. While Nvidia is highly regarded as the best of the 3. its special perk is that it uses a better RayTracing than the others. (Ray tracing is when a game's resolution, and realistic-ness will be higher. such as a better reflection on glass and just generally everything feeling lifelike.)
Intel has 3 types of gpus (Correct me if im wrong.) Intel Iris Xe (Used as some sort of regular Integrated graphics (igpu) for general work.) Intel arc (a dedicated gpu for mainstream purposes. such as schoolwork and such.) Intel UHD (Not really a good laptop for gaming. but it is suitable for games that are undemanding and is pretty old.)
AMD has the vega series. it is used for content creation and has high performance in gaming.
While nvidia has MX, GTX and RTX. MX is used for light-medium gaming with a balanced score of Performance and power effiency. this is usually used for laptops that arent built for powerful gaming except for students. GTX has the (correct me if im wrong) strongest performance out of all of them. with a good price ratio aswell. RTX is a gpu mostly used for Ray tracing while still having good performance in gaming aswell.
Next to them there is also Memory and Storage. Memory is used for when you are opening a bunch of programs/softwares or doing intensified performance. the higher the memory the fastethe extra amount of programs can be run while still being smooth and fast. Memory is expressed by RAM (Pretty sure yall already know this from like grade 5 or something) 4 and 8 gb (rarely 12) are used for things such as browsing and watching videos. this isnt really recommended. 16 and 24 gb are used for things such as work and having many programs open that arent demanding. 32gb is "The sweet spot" this amount of ram is used for gamers and content creators alike. as this is the most recommended amount for playing intensified programs and games. On the other side storage is the permanent amount of files inside of your laptop. same as Memory the higher the amount the better. 128-256GB ram storage: Not recommended but it is still great for work and school/college. 512: this is the common usage of gamers. although it is mostly used for upgrading to 1 terabyte. 1 terabyte and higher: this is used for content creators and people who 3d models and animates.
Onto the laptop screen display. there is about 6 screen sizes. 13 inches and lower: this is for people that'd prefer portability over performance. while still being able to do work. 14 inches: this is the middle of 13 inches and 15 inches. this is both portability and performance on one screen size. but a rather niche market to buy in. 15 inches: Used for performance and gaming this is the apex of gamers unable to buy a pc. 16 inches and higher: used for people that requires a bigger screen and better resolution.
There is two different types of screen types, IPS LCD: The standard and it is used for people that generally doesnt need better coloring on their displays. OLED: this is a special type of screen where the color ratio is more than the resolution. this is used for people who wants a color sensitive screen. there is different types of resolution such as FHD: 1080p (The standard) WUXGA 1200p (People who wants a stronger display for some reason.) WQHD-QHD 1400p (Usually a better upgrade for people that'd like to watch videos on a higher resolution.) WQXGA 1600p (Good resolution for those who has gpu's good enough to match the resolution.) 2.8k (Best resolution for content creators that enjoy powerful resolution.) 4K (This is obvious.)

I'm currently at a community college, majoring in studio art and getting a skill certificate in media arts- digital design. I'm planning on transferring next spring to a CSU or UC to get a bachelor's in animation (well, unless I get somehow into the film program at UCLA, I'd go for a masters in animation). While I don't mind 2d animation by any means, I think I want to go for 3d animation as a career. Ever since I was little, since I learned how to make video games with game maker, Ive always loved coding. I know the very basics since I was only a kid then and I still want to learn more about it. I was thinking about minoring, or even having computer science as a double major paired with animation.
I already asked in the college subreddit, but I want to know what this subreddit thinks. What specific pathways would open up to me if I potentially did a double major in animation and computer science, or at least a major in animation and minor in computer science? Would I potentially make more money? Would the double major have more benefits than a major and minor?
Planning on asking the career center too at my CC.

2024.05.15 15:39 YesterdayDesperate37 [PC][2000 - 2010] Early 2000s outer space shmup that was available on Gateway Games

Platform(s): PC - I think i only ever played it on the now defunct platform Gateway Games that some computers used to be preloaded with.
Genre: Shoot em up
Estimated year of release: 2000 - 2010
Graphics/art style: Top down, it was fairly modern looking 3D, or at least drawn to look that way, with a more realistic focus for the style. The ships would kind of wobble back and forth. The HUD was on the bottom of the screen. Each level had you choosing(?) a planet, which would then be visible in the background of that level, though you would never actually visit any of them. Other than that it was just black with stars all over. The enemy ships I believe had a more rounded appearance than you, and would be a different color depending on your stage, ranging from deep red, to bright purple, to green, etc. I can't remember what the player ship looked like at all though. There was no scrolling, the backdrop was static and enemies entered from outside the screen.
Notable characters: as far as I know, everything was fairly generic, but there was a player ship, hordes of different colored enemy ships, and I think bosses that I can't remember anything about.
Notable gameplay mechanics: There were weapons that upon pickup would change your blaster to something else permanently(?) until you grabbed something else. I don't think you were necessarily bound to the bottom strip of the screen like some other titles in the genre. A lot of the game was pretty generic for what it is, which is probably why I am having such a hard time remembering.
Other details: I think it was PC only, I don't think it ever made it onto a console.

I am searching for a game series including at least 2 games which belong together, one was a level-based jump n run where the last level suddenly was 3d and you had a jetpack on your back, automatically pushing forward and progressing the level, able to dodge to the left and right, the other game was a 2D point and click (most of the time), most memorable scene was the kitchen, where a monster came by every now and then, stealing the cake from the kitchen counter and when you mixed chili in it the monster got a red face and smoke coming out his ears. I think one was also able to drive around in a very old school 3d animation until you ran out of gas. These are the only real things i remember from these two games, going crazy thinking about the names.

I'm hoping I can share my story for some support because this is really tough.
TLDR - I am struggling with the pain of losing her and would never have expected this to hit so hard. How could i possibly invest in another relationship after experiencing this grief?
For context our relationship started when we met through work, she was 18 and i was 21. My first relationship but not hers. We are now 23 / 26.
As far as relationships go it felt like it was good overall. We really enjoyed each other's company, hanging out, watching movies, going for drives and though we did not have careers early on she was really talented with art and I was interested in 3D art and game development so we meshed well.
About a year or so in she moved in with me and my best friend at the time. Her family had some abusive members and we felt it wasn't safe for her there and i had the means to make it work. It was good for a few years. We both felt very close and loved.
The first issue I ran into was that she was pretty immature at the time as were her friend group which encouraged it. For example she would go out with them and they would call me and say they can't find her etc. Etc. Queue me panicking for a bit and then she would call me back saying it was a prank. Obviously I said I won't put up with that sort of behaviour and it never happened again. I also told the friend group that it was a horrible thing to do and I guess they respected that because i never really had any more issues with them.
Life moved on and I started developing a career in warehousing and management. She started attending tafe. Then covid hit. We had moved in to an apartment closer to the city / tafe etc. Along with my best mate from the previous house.
Covid was a really rough time to be locked in a 2 bedroom apartment with the 3 of us. Her and my friend started spending a lot of time together (playing games after i went to bed or watching movies or drinking wine) and I had many a conversation trying to figure out why she was being cold and distant with me. In hindsight it seems obvious but I was not in a good headspace and refused to believe what was happening.
Then she admitted to me that they had been fooling around. When I asked how she could do this she said it was because there was stuff I was lacking in and that she had fallen out of love. She said that my friend had been pointing all these things out to her that I didn't do and that he could do for her.
Immediately I got out of there and started going to therapy. But I did not doubt that I wanted to fight to keep our relationship alive. At that stage I had known my best mate for longer then I had known my partner and I was devastated because I truly trusted both of them.
After many long conversations and therapy sessions I decided that I did not want to end our relationship there because to me this one event over the course of a life time, it wasn't worth losing that potential. I've not spoken to my "friend" since that night I found out.
It took a long time for me to move past it and my partner admittedly still struggles with guilt about it. But I felt strongly that we could make new and better memories. Which we did. We travelled together, had many valentines days, dates and whatnot.
Fast forward to now. 6 and a bit years in. Work is going good, her course is going great. I'm happy, she is happy. And then we start getting some friction. I am not receiving the affection I need to feel loved. She is getting frustrated because I / we are working towards buying a house and when she asks me to explain how mortgages work or other stuff that she hasn't had to deal with before, I get frustrated trying to explain it.
And then a couple of days ago it came to a head. I said we should go to individual therapy or couples counselling so we could get the tools to communicate better as it's always been our bane. We always communicate after its built up and never before.
She said she does not think things will change and that she doesn't have the energy to try. Since then she's been very cold. I believe she has already moved on mentally because she was working up to ending things for a good while. Probably why there was a lack of affection in hindsight.
I try to press more about why we can't make it work. She says that her friends have been pointing out stuff that their boyfriends do that I don't and that she agrees with them.
I feel so incredibly frustrated that twice now I've been judged by what others have said that I don't do. I hope that people see me as a good person. Her safety is always my first thought, I've supported her family alot. I make mistakes and I'm not perfect but I've always cared about her deeply and I try to show it through my actions.
I must be crazy because I still don't want to see her out of my life. We had discussed kids, dream houses, marriage etc. And I have no interest in anyone else.
She has all but moved on I feel, despite us being stuck in the same house for a few more months. I am just devastated. I've not felt pain like this before. I've been nauseas, completely lost my appetite, feeling very empty and sad.
To flip a switch one day and lose what I considered to be my other half, to wake up alone. I think about her all the time even if it's not reciprocated.
The pain is just incredible. Friends say it will get better and I know that is the general sentiment.
Why get invested again when it hurts this much? I could never have imagined this grief.
