From what I have seen on this sub, there seems to be a lot of questions around Foreign Investment Funds (FIFs) and the way that income is calculated.
I am providing what is hopefully a brief, simple and easy to understand guide below and is applicable to individual investors only.
This is also only a basic guide, for more complex situations a discussion with a professional may be warranted.
I hope this helps answer some basic questions people have about FIFs and the way they are treated for tax purposes.
How do I know if my investment is a FIF investment?
A FIF investment is an offshore investment that is either:
- A foreign company
- A foreign unit trust
- A foreign superannuation scheme
- An insurer under a foreign life insurance policy.
Am I required to make a FIF income calculation?
A De-Minimis exemption exists for Natural Persons (Individual Investors), if the total ~cost~ of your FIF investments does not exceed $50,000 during the year, you do not need to calculate FIF Income. Instead you just return the actual dividends received (if any) from the FIF investments. This amount can be $100,000 in the case of joint ownership as the $50,000 would then apply at an individual level.
Please note that the De-Minimis exemption only applies to ~individual~ investors, other entities (companies, trusts etc.) are required to calculate FIF Income regardless of the overall cost.
If your ~cost~ basis is >$50,000, then FIF income needs to be calculated.
Example:
Individual Investor A
Total ~Cost~ of FIF Investments: $45,000, Market Value: $60,000
Individual Investor B
Total ~Cost~ of FIF Investments: $55,000, Market Value: $40,000
Only Investor B would be required to make a FIF calculation as the De-Minimis exemption does not apply because their cost basis is >$50,000. Investor A could, however, elect to treat their investment as a FIF and return income under the FIF rules.
Another exemption that exists is for ASX-listed Australian Companies. It is important to note that there are some that are still regarded as a FIF Investment. You can check if an Australian investment is exempted via the IRD website:

How do I calculate my FIF Income?
I am only going to discuss the two most popular methods for FIF Income calculation that would apply to 95% of people, the FDR (Fair-Dividend Rate) method and the CV (Comparative Value) method.
The calculation that provides the total lowest value would be used. The method you choose must be applied to all investments, you cannot ‘Cherry Pick’ based on what is lowest at an individual investment level.
1. FDR Method: 5% of the Market Value at the beginning of the tax year + Quick-sale Adjustment
The quick-sale adjustment is not discussed. The quick sale adjustment applies when a FIF investment is purchased and sold within the same tax year.
2. CV Method: Closing Market Value + Gains – Opening Market Value + Purchases
Example: Investment Cost: $50,000
Market Value as at 1 April 2023: $45,000
Market Value as at 31 March 2024: $55,000
Dividend Issued: $500
FDR Method: 45,000 x 5% = $2,250
CV Method: 55,000 + 500 – 45,000 = $10,500
Assuming only this investment exists, the lowest value would be used, being the calculation under the FDR method. $2,250 would be returned as Income, the $500 dividend would be excluded income for income tax purposes.
The above calculations would be made for each of your FIF Investments.
If you end up with a negative value (loss), the loss cannot be claimed and your FIF Income would be $0. If a loss is incurred where you are forced to use the CV method, then this can be claimed.
Example:
Total FIF Investments - FDR method: $10,000
Total FIF Investments - CV method: $9,000
You would still use the lowest of the two values. $9,000 under the CV method would be returned as income in your tax return.
There are also investments where the FDR method is prohibited and you are forced to return them under the CV method.

As mentioned above, there are other methods to calculating FIF income, only the two most common methods have been discussed and would likely apply to 95% of individual investors.

So to start. We live next to a corner lot, and the house next to the corner on the other side is letting homeless people live in their backyard. Our backyard and their backyard share about 20 feet of fence separating the two lots. There is no HOA, but it’s a suburban neighborhood in Florida.
This has been going on for a while, where our neighbor has been letting homeless people live in the shed in his backyard. We have sucked it up and dealt with it for a year or two. We tried hard to not make waves and create enemies. Honestly, I know it must be hard for the homeless and even though I would rather they not be there, I made a real effort to fight my NIMBY urges. However, things escalated a few months ago, and I’m done. It started with homeless people from all over the area coming by and hanging around their front yard chopping up bicycles. When the neighbors complained about that they moved their operation to the back yard.
Soon after that complaint (that our name was not on) they threw shit over the fence. Literal human shit, on paper towels, with their toilet paper. We called the cops, and they basically told us there is nothing they can do. If we don’t have it on camera, it’s just “he said she said”. The officer let us know he is familiar with the house and was reluctant but finally we talked him into talking to them. As soon as he showed up, we hear multiple people dart out the back gate into the woods. Then we heard the homeowner go into the back yard where there was very colorful language about us.

- We have also had multiple instances of trash being thrown in our yard from them. (as well the feces)
- Twice we have found human feces in our front yard. We can’t prove it was them, but I mean who else?
- Our neighbors and I have called the city ordinance because the home looks like an episode of hoarders. They are attempting to address the hoarding situation but are making no effort in the fact that there is an active homeless encampment in the backyard. Their efforts to address the hoarding are minimal at best. They basically just check once every other week to see if they threw trash away that week. If they try to go into the back yard, they have to show up with a police escort and a warrant. They have only done this once.
- The homeless are not allowed to go inside the house, so we suspect they are using the bathroom in the preserve behind our houses. It smells like urine back there and in our yard now.
- There is a bunch of trash in that preserve now.
- There were a couple OD deaths at the address before we moved here.
- The cops suspect 2 of the people living back there are selling fentanyl.
- We haven’t found needles, but our neighbors say they have seen them around their yard.
- We have now had to call the cops for a fist fight. When the cops showed up, they were not “allowed in the backyard”. The couple suspected of selling fentanyl darted into the woods behind our house. I have it all on camera. The cops didn’t even care to look at it, let alone step back there. The homeless told the cops to go fuck themselves and go away. The cops basically did that.
- They will periodically have a bunch of bicycles around that they are “recycling”. (aka stealing and chopping them up for scrap).
- When we called the city and complained we were told that yes, you are not allowed to live in a shed in a backyard, however we are never told what to do about it. If we call the cops, the cops show up, the homeowner says they live in the house not the back yard, and then that’s that. The homeless have never stepped foot inside the house. I have them on grainy camera back there all day and night. (I am working on getting a better security camera that isn’t Wi-Fi)

I posted a while back about free traffic ticket help & someone asked for a write up of how the law changed. So, here you go — with some added tips on what to do if you want to negotiate a ticket down in Clark County.
Before the law change, traffic tickets were usually criminal misdemeanors — this includes the really common tickets like, for example, speeding 1 - 10 miles over the speed limit or failing to yield.
Because of this, failing to pay the ticket would ultimately turn into a bench warrant. So you could be picked up and taken into custody until you paid the fee.
Last year, the legislature voted to decriminalize most traffic violations in order to cut down on the number of people being held for traffic violations that only totally a couple hundred bucks. Now, most tickets are civil tickets only — so what happens if you don’t pay is that the state can pursue you like you owe them money (collection agencies, etc) but can’t hold you for non-payment.
Not ALL tickets are civil. Something like driving with an open container, endangerment of civilians, very high speeding — there are still criminal tickets. But your average speeding ticket is now civil only.
This means that the process for handling a ticket is different now, too, though.

IF YOU HAVE A CIVIL TICKET:
- Check the top of the ticket to see if it’s civil or criminal. It tells you in the top right corner.
- If it’s criminal — don’t ignore it!
- If it’s civil, you can now negotiate tickets down yourself! In fact — as we have tried to help people with their tickets, we have learned that the Court requires the person who got the ticket to go there themselves in person to get a reduction. Here is how -
- First, get a copy of your driver’s history for NV. Use the DMV website for free or you can pay for one at the courthouse.
- Second, decide if you want to pay or reduce. If you just want to pay, you can do it online. You can’t apply for a reduction online.
- Third, go with your license, ticket, and driving history to the courthouse. Go to the Traffic Customer Service windows on the first floor.
- Fourth, request an application for a reduction from customer service. Fill it out and submit it.
- Fifth, if it is approved, you can choose between the following to avoid points: (1) 5 hour driving safety class or (2) a demerit reduction fee (that you pay along with the ticket fee).
- If it is not approved, plan to go to your hearing and ask the court for a reduction! Sometimes this works! No guarantees unfortunately — and you can ask an attorney to help with this part.
- If you have an outstanding warrant from before when the law changed — it may still be valid. Don’t assume it’s not. You can check online!
- This is just the process, it’s not legal advice. I can’t promise any outcome, can’t tell you for sure what will happen or that there aren’t other ways — I just think this info should be more accessible to people.
- If you still have ticket questions, you can call Morales Injury Law and we can try to help. Usually we can for free and sometimes we can’t, depends on the ticket type. (If you have any other legal issues, we are here for those too. 702-781-4848)
- For example, criminal tickets can be reduced, but I recommend speaking to an attorney because the process is different.
- This is not how to contest a ticket! That is also a different process.

as someone both neurodivergent and from another culture, i only recently learned of the concept of "self-pity". this is apparently a very abhorrent action that warrants disgust from all people, including therapists, maybe especially.
as a result, i think i'm coming off this way, and as a result of these biases, instead of accessing their skills and training, i only access what i guess are their worst sides: aggression, outbursts, eye-rolling, etc. as someone neurodivergent who is constantly checking what they're doing "wrong", i get really confused, bc i must've done something to warrant this and yet for the life of me i can't figure out what–– yes even after confronting them, i just get vague answers like "it's the way you say it," (in a tone as if they're extremely burdened by my phrasing), "you say it like you're the only one."
and yet i know i'm not the only one, so i get confused. i thought that was obvious? afterwards, i started preemptively padding my phrases: "i know everyone is going through this, but...", "everyone has this problem right now, and...", spelling out "i'm not saying i'm the only one", to the point that i wondered if i should outright substitute "i" with "everyone". even trauma symptoms like foreshortened future were dismissed with the fact that there are other people who also have the same issue but worse. i wondered if a problem was only valid in therapy if that issue affects only you, which is impossible.
so, instead of learning how to cope with my feelings or problems, or that there's other ways to deal with them than how i've been, i meet pointed dismissal.
for example, if i detail my experience with undiagnosed adhd (like taking hours to finish something), instead of learning possible reasons why or how, i get met with an aggressive, irritated, "well if you didn't do anything about it, then what do you expect?"
after this session i started wondering if he genuinely meant i should've taken myself to the doctor at 8 years old and asked them to consider if i have inattentive adhd. like... it's just not logical. i have many teen students with diagnosed adhd who (no judgment!!) don't do as much to work around their symptoms the way i did undiagnosed, so i know how "not doing anything about it" looks. and it's not me.
ppl in general also either become really cold and pointedly "deny" sympathy (not what i was looking for to start) or simply hand me sympathy like a pacifier, leaving me unsatisfied, infantilized, baffled, and no other perspective for the issue i opened up about which i now never want to do again. this, i recently learned, is from the assumption of "self pity". i've apparently been submitting unsolicited requests for sympathy.
i'm not sure how to phrase issues without sounding apparently disgusting and insufferable. i really just state the facts with an underlying neutral regard that i have apparently erroneously mutually expected.
to save my own self-respect and image and have access to help in therapy (instead of damage), how do i present my issues without sounding like whatever this damning "self-pitying" social concept is?

Residents voted in favor of a non-binding resolution to create a shared fire district with Charlemont, to use a portion of town land on Pond Road for park and recreational purposes, and to change the town clerk position from elected to appointed during Monday’s Annual Town Meeting.

Hi Everyone!
We recently booked an airbnb after some small back and forth near a beach. The host was very responsive, sent an offer and I booked it. There are 5 of us going, all over 21 but under 25 years old. Right after this, they sent over the rules detailing quiet hours (no problem) and the age requirement being 25 and guests under 25 need to be pre-approved or an additional deposit may be warranted. I responded telling them that we are all over 21 and under 25, happy to send over ID's, and also requested some restaurant rec's in the area.
It had been over 72 hours since we got a response, and our reservation is in under a week. I messaged, called and texted. Finally today I went through airbnb support to try and get help with them responding. Shortly thereafter, the host responded, but only listed restaurant rec's and nothing else regarding the age requirement / if we are all good to go. Is this normal? I sent yet another follow-up asking for a confirmation that everything is good, but still nothing. They seem to be avoiding this question and its confusing me as to why. As our trip is less than a week to stay, I do not want to get booted last minute in what seems like a nonrefundable reservation. Any tips or experiences with something similar? All around a bit confused and uncertain if this means we can just check-in on arrival without problems or if I should be worried? Thank you all in advance!

So I am on my second round of 7.5 and prescription was sent to Lilly Direct almost 30 days ago. The prescription shows up as Prescribed on 4-22-24 with an empty Order Date. Discount card applied and a red text still saying Medication Out of Stock. Check Back. This is my 6th box through Lilly and each time has gotten slower.
Lilly's phone tree forces you to True Pill "fufillment" for support. They do not have an option to get a live person. They basically say. We are out of stock and working to fill orders.

First off, note that my story has a happy ending (thus far.) But, mine is a case where I almost didn't even call for advice, and I'm so glad I did. I just wanted to encourage any other (especially first-timers) who like me, hemmed and hawed about going in for observation and explain why I have zero regrets about actually going in. This will be stupidly long but I really want others to see a non-scary story to just go if you have any question at all! TL;DR at the end for those who want it.
I am 29+5 today, and yesterday had a super minor fall at work at the end of the day. As in, I went to sit down on my rolling stool, missed slightly, and landed on my butt. I have to emphasize, I thought it was really no big deal - I fell almost in slow motion, didn't hit my belly, and was MUCH more embarrassed than hurt.
My baby even kicked me right afterwards as if to say, "Geez, Ma, what are you doing out there?" No cramps, no gush of fluid, no bleeding, and he was moving just fine.
Still, I had read plenty of times on this sub reddit, my baby books, and other sources that pretty much any fall at a certain point in the pregnancy warranted at least a phone call to the doctor. And my quick Google when I got home reiterated the same. Literally every single result said to call. So I did, and immediately buffered my question with "I'm sorry because this is probably a waste of your time, but I'm X far along and had Y type of fall happen, so I just wanted to do my due diligence and call." The receptionist was so lovely and didn't make me feel like a waste of time in the least bit.
She saw on my chart how far away from the hospital I am (40 minutes give or take depending on traffic) and said that since I wasn't having any bad symptoms and baby was moving, chances are the nurse wouldn't ask me to come in, but she wanted to make sure. A brief hold later and she said, "Actually, we do want you to come in to labor & delivery for a 1-hour observation, just in case. Any fall at this stage is worth getting checked out."
My heart sank a bit. I was honestly not even worried, and I hated the idea of wasting the gas, time, and whatever the observation would cost for them to just tell me everything is fine. On the flipside, obviously I take my son's safety very seriously, and decided that there's probably a reason they have a blanket recommendation to come in after a fall, even after I took pains to explain how much of a nothingburger it seemed to be.
Nonetheless, my husband and parents both insisted that I was doing the right thing by going in, and that they would all sleep better tonight knowing baby and I were both okay. My own birth was an emergency c-section at 30 weeks after my mom's amniotic fluid disappeared and I'd stopped growing around 26 weeks, so I can understand why my folks were of the better-safe-than-sorry mindset.
To try to make a long story short, we went to the hospital, they got me back right away because it was super quiet, and got me settled in with monitors. I could hear his heartbeat straight away, nice and strong, and heard, felt, and saw his kicks against the monitors lol. I already felt glad that we actually came in, because I think I was almost more afraid of the process of getting there than of anything actually being wrong. Plus, my next appointment isn't until the end of this month, so it would've been a long time to wait and wonder. After almost an hour, the doctor came in to check on us, and that's when I was utterly convinced this was NOT a waste of time.
She explained that my baby was looking great, but that I was having low level contractions (!!) She asked if I could feel them, but I couldn't, although I wasn't sure if that was because he was moving so much, or if they really weren't noticeable. She said this was normal after a fall, but could also be due to not eating enough or being dehydrated. I'd eaten a fairly normal amount yesterday and hadn't quite hit my water quota but had had a lot (maybe between 40-50oz?) So they had me stay another half hour or so just to make sure the contractions either stayed the same or slowed down. If they didn't, they would probably want me to stay 24 hours.
Luckily, at the end of it, they said the contractions slowed from when I first came in, and let me go. They just said to watch for any signs of premature labor.
All of that to say, I'm glad nothing too scary came of it (yet at least!) but I definitely learned my lesson not to overthink it about coming in. They recommended that I ask for a solid chair with a back at work, and said I could get a letter from my doctor issuing an accommodation for it if needed, which I appreciate. Otherwise, just going to be a little extra careful and wait and see. Hopefully my little one cooks for a while longer!
TL:DR - 29+4. Had a seemingly very light fall onto my butt at work, decided to call it in just to be safe, assumed I wouldn't have to go in, did have to go in, hemmed and hawed about it but I'm glad I went, because baby was fine but I was having light contractions and didn't know it. Contractions slowed down and I got to go home, but learned my lesson about not hesitating to get checked out!

A year ago, somone got access to my account and changed the credentials on it (password, email, id). Last week I finally retrieved the account because I was scrolling through the pictures folder and saw the date on the screenshot of my screen when I first played valorant. I recovered my account using the details that I have (username, email that I used to create my account, account creation date, dob, and other extra details that needed to be filled up).
When I opened the account I saw that the account is "Permanently Suspended due to repeated disruptive communications". I looked up the account on tracker.gg and I saw that the person who hacked it was playing on it. So I sent a ticket to support to see if they can lift the ban because the account was compromised during the time of ban and the damages done to the account was not of my doing.
After explaining the situation to the ticket description, riot replied with: I have re-check your chat logs and I can see some negative attitudes in the game. I'm sorry to tell you that if the ban becomes warranted, the ban will remain.
I didn't have access to the account during the ban hence I asked for an investigation on it but they just keep responding the same thing over and over again.
I'm wondering what should I do? I've done the things that the people advised me to do yet support refuses to investigate my account. It's been very tiring for me to keep explaining the same thing over and over again. Is there anyone who can help with this situation that I have? Anything that I should say or do for them to investigate and verify that my account was banned DURING compromisation?

General Kim was awakened from a sound slumber by klaxons. Years of military training kicked in and he was out of bed in record time. Checking the data pad briefly while pulling on his uniform he saw something terrifying.
“Attack in progress. Launch in 10:34.”
An attack? Who? Where? How? What kind? General Kim was soon out the door to his quarters. He was at his battle bridge before the launch countdown had reached 10:00. Similar scenes were playing out throughout the ship, as generals checked in with their battle bridge statuses.
In the ship’s primary bridge, two kilometers from General Kim, Admiral Sol looked at her command display with satisfaction. 100% readiness in less than two minutes. She was pleased. She addressed the 10,000 soul the crew over the PA system. “An allied colony is under attack by enemies unknown. Wormhole travel will take approximately twenty minutes and thirty-four seconds. Prepare for battle.”
General Kim scrolled through the scant field assessment data. There wasn’t much. A large multi-species colony was being bombarded from orbit. No signs of enemy ground forces. The primary wormhole comms array was out, but an old Subspace system was still functional after 120 years of dormancy. “And THAT,” said General Kim, “is what preventative maintenance is for.”
“General, sir?”
“Sorry. Just thinking out loud. Their W23 system is down but they’re still in touch using an SB-Class 3.”
“I think I’ve seen one of those in a museum!”
“Our grandparents saw them in museums. You make do on the rim.”
Launch and wormhole transit went off with clockwork precision. Soon, the ship exited its artificial wormhole. It was immediately bombarded by the unknown hostiles. Explosions of varying kinds went off on the ship’s hull, ripping gashes in her armor.
“Damage report?” Admiral Sol asked.
“Ablative armor at 97%. No other damage reports.”
“Excellent. Inform me when the preliminary weapons analysis is in.”
Meanwhile, the Admiral's counterpart in the invading fleet, Imperial Agent Skrald, was still screaming, “What is that THING?”
“I’ve seen moons smaller than that ship,” said one of his lieutenants.
“We have to have a record of it. You can’t build something that big in complete secrecy!”
“Imperial Agent Skrald, I think it’s the, “Blade of Scoth.”
“That ship’s an old myth! It can’t possibly-“
“We've carved a notch!”
“Send the biggest we’ve got,” the Skrald replied.
A “notch” was a divot in the ship’s hull of the right shape to prevent weapons files from glancing off the armor.
“We’re being hailed, sir!”
“Tell them we don’t talk to burnt food and end the transmission,” the Admiral replied.
Imperial Agent Skrald watched with glee as the missile made contact with the notch and detonated.
On her ship, Admiral Sol asked for another damage report.
“Lower-port ablative armor section 374 at 40%, pinata layer is fully exposed.
“Can it take another direct hit?”
“It was only a gigaton blast. One more should make a perfect crack.”
“Excellent. Order the candy away from the blast point just to be safe.”
“Already done ma'am.”
“Make a note to find out who gave that order so I can commend them on their quick-thinking.”
“Yes Admiral.”

Imperial Agent Skrald, ignorant of the “Rule of Two Rogers,” was shouting with excitement. “Hit it again! Fire another!” The second missile flew through space, connecting with the underlayer exposed by the last missile. At first, it looked like the ship was spewing out debris, but the debris started flying in formations and shooting at his ships.
On the human ship, the Admiral smiled with satisfaction as she heard the report, “Piñata 86 has been breached. The candy is flowing. I repeat, the candy is flowing.”
“All stations, fire at will,” she replied.
The eyes of Imperial Agent Skrald opened wide as the surface of the massive ship lit up with a multicolored array of missiles, lasers, torpedos, and something that seemed to fire AFTER destroying one of his ships.
“It’s a rainbow of death,” he said, shocked into immobility by the way his fleet was being erased. He came back to his senses when his ship was rocked by debris impact from his erstwhile fleet.
“It’s too big to land!” He yelled. “All ships to the surface! I repeat, all ships retreat to the surface!”
The debris tore off one of his ship’s nacelles. “Did we need that to land?” He yelled.
“Only to get home sir,” an officer replied.
“Good.”
Admiral Sol watched the battle with satisfaction. This was the Blade of Scoth’s first battle in over 100 years. As a descendant of the famous Ambasador Sol, she took her guardianship of the BoS very seriously. A report came up on her screen. The hostiles had been identified. It was one of the Naga Imperium factions, or they were at least using the faction’s ships, weapons and known tactics. “Bastards,” she muttered.
“Admiral?” Lieutenant Cutter said.
“Analysis says it’s the ‘Naga Imperium of the Bone.’ The colony's 20% Naga. They’re slaughtering their own. Have we established direct contact with the colony yet?”
“Not yet Admiral. They don’t seem to have any short-range communications working. We’re still limited to what’s coming over their old subspace system.”
On the planet below, Sally McCool, a Naga hatched and raised in the colony, like her parents and grandparents before her, looked to the night sky. The missiles had come down, glowing brightly as the stars before they impacted. Now, the bright glowing objects had become larger, but many were breaking up and vanishing into nothing. Were these larger bombs, or was the enemy tumbling out of space?
She watched with growing horror as one approached the ground near the south okra field. She took a deep breath, and braced herself to be vaporized by whatever was about to land. Unable to watch, she curled into a ball on the ground, hoping death would be quick. She expected a nuclear flash, obliteration before hearing the blast. Instead, she heard a massive crash, crumpling metal and exploding components, and a long grinding sound as something huge cut into the soil. A rain of stones and soil covered her.
Sally looked up, and took several seconds to process what she was seeing. It hadn’t been a bomb. It had been a ship, and it had just crashed into one of their fields, carving a huge channel as it ground to a halt. A cloud of smoke was rising. Suddenly, a disk-shaped ship shot through the cloud of smoke. She recognized it from her history classes and old war movies. A flying saucer, painted with concentric circles of red, white, and blue. It was a Steve. A Steve class fighter. They were special. Why were they special?
Another saucer flew overhead. This one was red and yellow.
Sally remembered why the Steve battle saucers were special. They were exclusive to a ship called “The Rule of two Rogers.” The Steves were for battle, and this red and gold ship, as it landed she remembered, “It’s a Fred!” She yelled. She waved her arms, calling out to the ship. “We have injured! We have injured!” The side of the saucer opened up, and a multi-species crew of medics poured out.
While medics swarmed the colony providing aid, the best day of Skrald’s life had turned into the worst in a matter of minutes. He looked around his battered bridge. Even the emergency lighting could only manage flickering glimpses of the sparking wreckage around him. The only functional display was informing him the sewage system had ruptured and was pouring into what remained of the ventilation system.
“Is anyone else alive?”
“I TOLD you it was the Blade of Scoth you idiot!”
Skrald straightened his posture as much as the sharp pains in his abdomen would allow. “How DARE you speak to a member of the Imperium that way! I’ll eat you myself for that!”
“Good luck with that. I’m surrendering to the colony.”
“THEY’LL EAT YOUR FLESH AND MAKE SHOES FROM YOUR HIDE!”
“How’s that any better than you eating me?”
Outraged at the insolence, Skrald lunged in the direction of the taunting underling, smashing his snout against a hunk of metal he hadn’t noticed in the dim, flickering light.
Hours later, sunrise came to the battered colony. Most of the fires in the colony proper had been put out, but some of the Naga wreckage was still burning bright. Emergency contamination domes had been put up over the upwind wrecks, to contain as much of the toxic smoke as possible.
General Kim was on the ground, commanding the cleanup crews from both ships. He’d taken a brief break from those responsibilities to speak to one of the captured Naga.
“The guy in the fanciest duds tried to eat you when we took you into custody. Why?”
“I used to be a pilot,” she said. “Until that moron weaseled himself into enough power to do THIS!” She opened up her arms, as if to gesture at everything around her. “The only reason I’m even here is because I objected to this madness. That royal waste of scales wanted to personally mock me when he won. He even put that in writing on the paperwork for my ‘Away Without Leave’ warrant.”
“Weren’t you on his bridge?”
“Yes. You look confused, or at least that’s what my translator is telling me about your expression.”
“I don’t have a lot of combat experience. Nobody does these days, but hand-picking someone for your bridge crew because they have no confidence in you sounds like a bad idea to me.”
“This whole mission was nothing but bad ideas.”
“Please, tell me more.”
Meanwhile, in the darkness of space, a third ship of Capybara / Human design moved silent and unseen. Complex sensor arrays had been tracing the path the invaders had taken, seeking their origin. Data flowed in on interstellar communications problems, often evidence of ships passing though communications tunnels. The Starship Peggy Carter and her crew were on the trail, and the ship had a reputation to uphold. Latin mottos had fallen out of favor decades before she was built, so her motto was written in English.

General Kim was awakened from a sound slumber by klaxons. Years of military training kicked in and he was out of bed in record time. Checking the data pad briefly while pulling on his uniform he saw something terrifying.
“Attack in progress. Launch in 10:34.”
An attack? Who? Where? How? What kind? General Kim was soon out the door to his quarters. He was at his battle bridge before the launch countdown had reached 10:00. Similar scenes were playing out throughout the ship, as generals checked in with their battle bridge statuses.
In the ship’s primary bridge, two kilometers from General Kim, Admiral Sol looked at her command display with satisfaction. 100% readiness in less than two minutes. She was pleased. She addressed the 10,000 soul the crew over the PA system. “An allied colony is under attack by enemies unknown. Wormhole travel will take approximately twenty minutes and thirty-four seconds. Prepare for battle.”
General Kim scrolled through the scant field assessment data. There wasn’t much. A large multi-species colony was being bombarded from orbit. No signs of enemy ground forces. The primary wormhole comms array was out, but an old Subspace system was still functional after 120 years of dormancy. “And THAT,” said General Kim, “is what preventative maintenance is for.”
“General, sir?”
“Sorry. Just thinking out loud. Their W23 system is down but they’re still in touch using an SB-Class 3.”
“I think I’ve seen one of those in a museum!”
“Our grandparents saw them in museums. You make do on the rim.”
Launch and wormhole transit went off with clockwork precision. Soon, the ship exited its artificial wormhole. It was immediately bombarded by the unknown hostiles. Explosions of varying kinds went off on the ship’s hull, ripping gashes in her armor.
“Damage report?” Admiral Sol asked.
“Ablative armor at 97%. No other damage reports.”
“Excellent. Inform me when the preliminary weapons analysis is in.”
Meanwhile, the Admiral's counterpart in the invading fleet, Imperial Agent Skrald, was still screaming, “What is that THING?”
“I’ve seen moons smaller than that ship,” said one of his lieutenants.
“We have to have a record of it. You can’t build something that big in complete secrecy!”
“Imperial Agent Skrald, I think it’s the, “Blade of Scoth.”
“That ship’s an old myth! It can’t possibly-“
“We've carved a notch!”
“Send the biggest we’ve got,” the Skrald replied.
A “notch” was a divot in the ship’s hull of the right shape to prevent weapons files from glancing off the armor.
“We’re being hailed, sir!”
“Tell them we don’t talk to burnt food and end the transmission,” the Admiral replied.
Imperial Agent Skrald watched with glee as the missile made contact with the notch and detonated.
On her ship, Admiral Sol asked for another damage report.
“Lower-port ablative armor section 374 at 40%, pinata layer is fully exposed.
“Can it take another direct hit?”
“It was only a gigaton blast. One more should make a perfect crack.”
“Excellent. Order the candy away from the blast point just to be safe.”
“Already done ma'am.”
“Make a note to find out who gave that order so I can commend them on their quick-thinking.”

Hi folks,
Wondering if someone could provide some insight.
I will preface this by saying I do, sometimes, suffer from health anxiety, so please don't speculate about serious illness unless it is warranted/credible.
I have, since mid 2020, suffered from horrible reactions to what I assume are bug bites. I don't know this for sure that these are bites, but often times I'll feel a sudden pain, check the area, and it looks like I've been bitten. Then, the area gets progressively more inflamed, and sometimes tracks. The tracking is what really worries me, as I don't feel in control, and don't know when it will stop. I would attach photos but I can't seem to do this.
I have spoken to a few general practitioners and one dermatologist about this, but they haven't been much help.
One GP thought this was/is being caused by a parasite, and prescribed me anti-parasitic medicine. I thought this was dubious as the source of the issue, in my head, was bug bites. It didn't make sense for this to be caused by a parasite. I didn't take the medicine after speaking to another GP for a second opinion, who disagreed with the parasite conclusion. This said, the second GP didn't really give an alternative theory, they just referred me to a dermatologist.
I waited for a year for the dermatologist to get in touch (UK helathcare) who advised that they didn't know what it was, and thought it might just be a bad reaction to bites. This wasn't really a satisfying answer to me, as it didn't really provide a credible explanation for why this would suddenly start happening. I, maybe unfairly, think some doctors who I have spoken to have been lazy in just hand-waving this away.
My main questions are as follows (understand folk here may not be able to answer):
This has happened 3 times in the last week, and I'm pretty sick of it. This said, before this week, it hadn't happened in over a year.
If anyone has any insight, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
I have not had a good natural sleep since I was diagnose with Grave Disease in 2017/2018.
I though getting total thyroidectomy surgery last year on Aug 16 would improve my sleep.
Instead, it has not. I have not drink coffee for the pass one year and it is still not helping.
I talked to my endo about getting coristol and adrenal glands test check and she refuse to perform these tests because in her own words "she does not see any synthoms in me to warrant such tests" even though I express sleepless nights, weight gain, anxiety etc etc.
Currently, I am taken levothyroxine(T4) (0.125mcg) and liothyronine(T3)(0.5mcg).
prior taken liothyronine, I was only taken levothyroxin(0.175mcg) and I still having sleepless nights.
These are the supplements I am taken but it not helping with my sleep behaviour are:
Doctor Best magnesium glyscinate
Thorne 5-Hydroxytryptophan
Doctor Best L-Theanine
None of these supplments works.
I want to get off zzzquil melatonin as my only way of fallen asleep.
Any advice I would really appreciate!

I have not had a good natural sleep since I was diagnose with Grave Disease in 2017/2018.
I though getting total thyroidectomy surgery last year on Aug 16 would improve my sleep.
Instead, it has not. I have not drink coffee for the pass one year and it is still not helping.
I talked to my endo about getting coristol and adrenal glands test check and she refuse to perform these tests because in her own words "she does not see any synthoms in me to warrant such tests" even though I express sleepless nights, weight gain, anxiety etc etc.
Currently, I am taken levothyroxine(T4) (0.125mcg) and liothyronine(T3)(0.5mcg).
prior taken liothyronine, I was only taken levothyroxin(0.175mcg) and I still having sleepless nights.
These are the supplements I am taken but it not helping with my sleep behaviour are:
Doctor Best magnesium glyscinate
Thorne 5-Hydroxytryptophan
Doctor Best L-Theanine
None of these supplments works.
I want to get off zzzquil melatonin as my only way of fallen asleep.
Any advice I would really appreciate!
