2024.05.15 15:32 Complex_Carb Found a MAJOR bug of the Ring Dashboard IMO...

So I've been upping my email security using aliases for specific sites that forward to a private email.
I generated a new email for Ring, however, I messed up and pasted the wrong email when changing it on the Ring Dashboard. The email I ended up changing it to is not accessible.
Yes is was a mistake that I made.... but this mistake could have also been made by a user entering an email with a typo.
Well when Ring goes to send the verification email, it goes into the ether.... this email cannot be verified.
At this point I thought ok... I have all the account information, phone number, and 2F authentication set up on with an authenticator app.... shouldn't be hard to regain access to my account and just change my email to the right one....
WROONNNGGGGG I was....
Not only can I no longer access the account; apparently Ring Support can not access the account either until the email is verified! Talking to 2 separate customer service reps on the phone for hours resulted in the following suggestions:
1.) Get with your email provider to create the mis-typed email so that you can verify the email. 2.) Create a whole new account and manually transfer each device to this account.
Honestly I find this ridiculous considering I can prove I own this account in a plethora of ways....
I'm putting this hear to:
a.) warn anyone who is changing their e-mail on ring to be careful b.) hopefully get in front of a developer to build in some safe guards... since this is extreme c.) see if the community has any solutions that doesn't require a full re-install of all my devices on a new account

Has anyone with a Samsung Galaxy S22 plus or any other model recently had to do an update? Well I did! and I almost lost access to my phone. When the update was complete I had to enter my Samsung Account details otherwise I could not proceed to use my phone. This has not been a requirement from all of the previous updates! I had to gain a verification number. There was a UI 6.0 screen after the update. There was no way to exit or close that screen! So I could not access my verification number in my messages. Luckily I had my password for my samsung account written down or I would not have been able to use my phone. Had anyone else had the same issue?

At the beginning of April, Facebook locked my account due to 'unusual activity' and said I may have been hacked (different from suspension due to violation of terms of service). In order to get my account back, they required I verify my identity. I sent every official ID I have, and none were accepted. For a short while, video submissions for verification were allowed. I submitted 4 videos that were accepted for identification verification, but the links to unlock my account did not work. There is no way to reach an actual person to get the issue resolved.
According to a couple of groups on Reddit, this has happened to numerous people. In addition, for those of us who have been stuck in the 'AI loop', the last resort method to getting Facebook to unlock the account is to take them to small claims court.
My problem is that technically, they have not taken money from me. But the emotional toll has been very difficult, as we are making a cross country move to another state and all of my referrals to service companies, chats with real estate and building providers, and other various moving resource groups are inaccessible to me. In addition, many of my professional work contacts were maintained on FB, and I have no way to contact most of them now since I don't have email addresses for them. Finally, there is a local community group that helped me keep track of a forest fire 7 miles from my home. I would not have known about the fire had someone not posted about it. Being able to keep track of which direction it was spreading gave me a huge head start on being able to prepare for evacuation early. It quite literally could have save me and my family's life had the wind blown the other direction. All of this is not even including all the typical photos, messages, etc that a person loses when they can't access their account.
Can I claim any emotional distress or translate any of my losses into a monetary value so I can file for small claims? If not, I have no way of getting all those pieces of my 'life' back. Getting hacked or 'unusual activity' was through no fault of my own, as I had 2 factor authentication turned on through using an authenticator app on my phone. If someone hacked my account, it would have been through a breech on Facebook's side. Thanks for any help.

I've recently started learning Rust, mainly because a) it looks more fun than R (is R even considered a programming language? idk) which I begrudgingly use everyday and b) It seems like Rust's main focus is to minimize memory issues during runtime, which is of great interest to me. Right now I'm reading the Rust Book and having a lot of fun, but I know to truly step up my game I need to do a personal project.
Thing is, I don't know what to do. I came across a random comment from a different subreddit talking about their setup, and it seemed like they made their own music player (I'm not sure if this is the correct term, what I mean is programs like foobar2000, itunes, etc), and that caught my eye. I like music, and I've never had a music player that perfectly suits my needs, so I think it'll be a pretty fun challenge to make one myself, but I'm not sure if it's going to be too hard for me.
I pretty much have absolutely no coding experience. Yes, I've said I used C/C++ before, and because of my line of work requires some knowledge of Python I learned that as well, but I only know them at a surface level.
