Is my psychiatrist leaving stimulants as a last resort?

2024.05.16 14:58 Universal_247 Is my psychiatrist leaving stimulants as a last resort?

After some tests, doctor (neurologist with specialization in adult ADHD) confirmed ADD diagnosis. He prescribed 27mg concerta and told me to come back in 1½ to 2 months, saying that the body takes time to adjust itself to the medication. I know that stimulants work with the first dose, and that the body adjusting is about the physiology, how it stabilizes over time to the side effects. Why would we wait for the body to stabilize itself to the medication when the effectiveness is seen within the first day? I acknowledge that it was a mistake to not ask him about this on the spot.
I took the 27mg and after 1-2 hours there was some nice clarity in my mind, for like 5 minutes. Maybe placebo. That's it. The rest was high irritability and belly rumbles. I took 54mg next day and same thing, minus the "clarity".
This is not directly relevant to this post but I'll add it: since I knew that some people respond to instant release methylphedinate and not XR, I opened the pill and cut off the sponge thing and took the methylphedinate. It felt good. For about 4/5 hours I was very motivated, I could just do stuff and enjoy it (like assembling some furniture) when normally I would force myself to do it after postponing it as much as possible. No concentration improvement though. Anyway, I did nothing with this information.
I wasn't going to wait another week or two to see this doctor again again so I had an appointment with an experienced psychiatrist who has worked with kids and adults with ADD/ADHD. He said it didn't make sense to him what the doctor said, that yes there was an adaptation of the body to the side effects but there's no point in waiting for it if the medication doesn't work, which is seen from the first day. Since he would have also prescribed Concerta to start, he recommended to up the dosage so I told him I tried with 54mg as well. He put me on Strattera, didn't work. Bupropion (Wellbutrin) 150mg didn't work. He upped the dose so now I'm on week one of taking 300mg.
Is there a reason he might be avoiding other stimulants like Adderall or Vyvanse? I ask because as far as I know, those drugs along with Methylphedinate (Concerta or whatever) or one of the primary treatment options for ADD/ADHD. Does he want to exhaust all other options first because they have weaker side effects, are less addictive, don't build tolerance that fast, or what?

2024.05.16 14:27 stvmotorsports01 The Clamp for Every Job: Steel Tube Clamp Guide

The Clamp for Every Job: Steel Tube Clamp Guide
The unsung heroes of the workshop are steel tube clamps. For a variety of uses, these adaptable tools offer a safe and dependable solution to grip tubes and pipes. But it can be overwhelming to choose the Best steel tube clamp because there are so many options. With the help of this guide, you will be able to choose the ideal steel tube clamp for your upcoming project and make sense of the vast universe of them.
Steel Tube Clamp
Understanding Steel Tube Clamps
Fundamentally, steel tube clamps are composed of sturdy steel and are intended to enclose a tube and securely keep it in place. To accommodate varying tube diameters and project requirements, they are available in an assortment of sizes and shapes. Here's a summary of some important components:
Material: Steel is the best option because of its robustness and longevity. Nonetheless, certain clamps may have nylon or plastic parts for increased traction or resistance against corrosion.
Clamp Body: This is the principal framework encircling the tube. Swivel, saddle, and U-shaped clamps are typical forms.
Fastening Mechanism: The clamp encircles the tube tighter in this manner. Common alternatives include screws, nuts, and levers; some clamps have quick-release mechanisms.
Mounting Points: For simple attachment to surfaces or other clamps, some clamps come with pre-drilled holes or slots.
Choosing the Right Steel Tube Clamp: Now that you know the fundamentals, let's look at some things to think about while choosing your steel tube clamp:
Tube Size: This is very important. Clamps are made to suit certain sizes of tubes. Make sure the clamp you select completely encloses the tube, leaving no room for expansion.
Application:Are you making a railing, assembling furniture, or fastening pipes? Different clamping force and adjustability levels are needed for different applications.
Weight Capacity: Think about the weight that the clamp must hold. Stronger applications are intended for heavier clamps.
Environment: Will there be wetness or extreme weather where the clamp is exposed? If necessary, choose materials like stainless steel that are resistant to corrosion.
Adjustability: Certain clamps have rotating or swiveling capabilities that allow the tube to be positioned more freely.
Popular Steel Tube Clamp Types:
Your selection process can be streamlined by having a basic awareness of the most prevalent types of steel tube clamps:
U-Clamp: The most popular, with a straightforward U-shaped body and a bolt or screw for fastening. Excellent for simple uses.
Saddle Clamp: is perfect for fastening pipes or tubes against flat surfaces since it wraps around the tube from one side.
Swivel Clamp: It enables the tube within the clamp body to rotate 360 degrees, making it ideal for handrails or adjustable joints.
Flange Clamp:It has a level base that allows the clamp to be mounted to a surface and provides extra stability for vertical supports.
Double Clamp: joins two tubes at a 90-degree angle, making it ideal for corners and frame construction.
Beyond the Basics:
Although they encompass the most common varieties, customized steel tube clamps are offered for particular applications, such exhaust system muffler clamps or padded clamps for delicate tube protection.
Tips and Tricks for Using Steel Tube Clamps:
Use the right size clamp: A clamp that is too tight could harm the tube, while one that is too slack would undermine stability.
Tighten clamps evenly: This keeps the tube from warping and guarantees a firm grip.
Consider using inserts: Inserts made of rubber or plastic can improve grip and shield the tube from scratches.
Inspect clamps regularly: Performance might be impacted by wear and tear over time. Replace any broken clamps for maximum security.
Knowing the many kinds of steel tube clamps and how they work will help you choose the appropriate instrument with assurance and ensure a safe and effective project. Thus, keep in mind the strength and adaptability of steel tube clamps the next time you work on a project involving tubes or pipes!

2024.05.16 05:30 katiekabooms Service for assembling furniture?

Recently bought a house and moving very soon, ended up needing a lot of furniture and decided to replace a lot as well. I have a disabled child, multiple kids and a demanding job in education. Basically zero time to get all this stuff put together in the time frame needed. Are there any services that you can hire for something like this? Is something like TaskRabbit the only option? TIA

2024.05.15 18:53 HoiPolloiter Stumbled into a bunch of free parts, wanna build a guitar

TLDR; anybody have a routing diagram for a 24" scale mustang HH?
Happy Tuesday! I answered an ad and walked away with many, many electric guitar parts for free... multiples of everything except bodies. One of the necks was originally on a Squier Mustang. I've been interested in a short-scale guitar lately, so I think I'd like to make a body for that neck (there's also a fretted Warmoth Hombre neck, unused. I don't wanna mess with that yet). I've never assembled a guitar, never even soldered, but I have some carpentry experience. My father makes beautiful furniture and has the tools associated with that craft.
Included in the haul was a pair of mahogany boards that don't appear to be bookmatched but had pretty similar grans, so we've glued them together, and that's as far as I've gotten. I think I 'd like to copy a Stingray body & controls, but make the body even more compact.
I can't spend extra money this time of year because my wife doesn't work in the summer, so I can't buy a hardboard routing template for a hundred bucks. Anyone have access to a PDF routing template for 24" scale solid body HH guitar body?

2024.05.15 16:12 Callfernando New to this, so all help is welcomed!

Hello all I hope you all are having the best time of your life.

I would like to ask for your assistance here, but first, it might be worthy to share a little bit of my walk.
Professionally I always felt lost and really distant from where I would like to be. I graduated in laws in my country, and since I moved to the US 12 years ago, I never really pursued anything in this area.
Since my start in America, I have been working on logistics. An office job, that paid fairly well, however I always felt miserable, depressed, anxious, and lacking directions, purpose.
I was fired past year, and have not been looking for another position in this ever since. My guts were telling me that this was just not what I should do (I had a huge burnout, was feeling sick in getting back to a corporate position. Furthermore, I had a little savings that allowed me to support myself in this “sabbatical” time – I am really blessed and thankful to have been able to take this time off to take care of my mental health).
Moving forward to these days, I always had an old desire of opening my own business. All pros and cons, I wanted to be my own boss, there was no better time to do it, so I decided to pull the trigger and follow some of my passions. I moved out of my comfort zone, embracing the unknown, and opened a handyman business, all at 43 years young.
Previously, while corporate working, I felt miserable, now I feel invigorated with all the possibilities (I know is not all roses, but what in life is?).
I am at the very beginning of my journey, and getting directions can be quite overwhelming. So many questions… Looking online get me some answers, which brings to even more questions…
I tried to organize in topics, because my brain works better that way (and this helps keeping my ADHD at bay and I don’t lose myself in an "analysis paralysis" too often, neither get too distracted). =D
This is my scenario, to provide some context:
· I live in Miami, FL
· License: It is not mandatory for small jobs, but my goal is to provide a high level of professionalism, integrity, and quality workmanship so I am going to invest in getting licenses and certifications;
· Experience: I am able to tackle main handyman activities with ease (furniture assembly, minor repairs in drywall, doors, install light fixtures, blinds and so on), but I know I still have lots to learn.
· Company Structure: as of now, I have the following:
o LLC open and running;
o Insurance for liability has been brough;
o Business phone number;
o Online presence: I have a website domain bought and social media profiles created (all these need to be developed).
o Software:
§ QuickBooks: I have acquired QuickBooks for financing, and I am thinking in having a software for operations (such as Jobber or Markate). Since I am in the very beginning of my journey, it seems that this could be redundant. QuickBooks has the possibility of sending invoices and, this it might be all I need for now, because I really don’t have volume to justify having an operations app (since I am still working in building up my clientele). On the other hand, it would be nice to have all system set up since the very beginning. Thoughts?
I have the following “bullets” to tackle for now:
1. Financial aid: Do you have any suggestion on banking and other financial institutions (private or governmental) for loans, grants, etc.?
2. Pricing: I was always an employee, and now I run a business, with overhead costs to cover. My “old” mentality could prevent me from charging a fair price for my work (I might feel that I am charging too much for what I am doing). Have you even been through this? What did you do? While I am still building my expertise in pricing, I have been relying on the following assistance:
a. Homewyse: I have been using it for pricing reference, but, honestly, it seems that sometimes it is out of proportion its pricing seems too expensive sometimes;
b. ChatGPT: I have been using for pricing assistance;
3. Mentorship: have you ever had a mentor to help honing your skills in not only how to be a better Handyman, but also a better Businessman? If yes, where did you look for assistance? Did you pay?
I know that this is a huge topic and maybe too much to ask, but I would really appreciate all thoughts. What would be the best piece of advice you could give to your younger self on these matters?
Eventually, as my expertise grows, I will pay back the community 10 times fold, trying to help as much as I can. Because that’s who I am.
Thank you all in advance.

2024.05.15 14:58 Humble-Bag2946 I’m building a SaaS in the most saturated field (email marketing): ask me anything!

Hey Saas makers!
I’ve decided to dive headfirst into the incredibly saturated field of email marketing tools (outreach). Every day, I see 2-3 new competitors offering almost identical services. So, why am I doing this?
The market is huge, and the product-market fit is proven! In such market, I think there's always room for more players.
My strategy? I’m taking inspiration from the big guys and making my tool simpler and cheaper. Just like how IKEA revolutionized furniture shopping with affordable, easy-to-assemble pieces, we're making email outreach more accessible and user-friendly.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, questions, or even if find out if you’ve already decided to switch from a Saas industry leader to a new alternative solution. Ask me anything!

I will start a "Basic woodworking: production and installation of joinery and interior construction" course, which will last 3 months.
I see a lot of interesting YouTube videos but sometimes it gets so overwhelming.
Before getting into advanced stuff, I firstly want to have a solid understanding of the basics.
I am mostly interested in building and assembling wooden furniture. Any recommendation that will give me a good introduction to the basics? it can be YouTube videos, books, anything really. Would appreciate a lot!

2024.05.15 11:58 souravbairagya_ How To Make Money In One Hour?

Making money in just one hour can be a challenge, but there are some strategies you can consider to earn a quick buck. Here are several options:
Freelancing or Gig Work: Offer your skills or services on freelancing platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, or TaskRabbit. Depending on your expertise, you can do tasks like graphic design, writing, coding, or running errands for others.
Online Surveys and Market Research: Participate in online surveys or market research studies. Websites like Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, or Amazon Mechanical Turk pay users for completing surveys, watching videos, or testing products.
Sell Items Online: Declutter your home and sell unwanted items on platforms like eBay, Craigslist, or Facebook Marketplace. Look for items you no longer need but are still in good condition, such as clothes, electronics, or collectibles.
Offer Services Locally: Provide services within your community, such as dog walking, lawn mowing, or house cleaning. Post flyers in your neighborhood or advertise your services on local community boards.
Task-Based Apps: Sign up for task-based apps like TaskRabbit or Gigwalk, where you can find short-term gigs such as assembling furniture, delivering groceries, or doing handyman work.
Rent Out Your Assets: If you have a car, consider driving for ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft. You can also rent out your parking space, tools, or even your driveway on platforms like Airbnb, Neighbor, or Turo.
Participate in Focus Groups: Join focus groups or research studies that pay for your opinions. Look for opportunities in your local area or online through websites like FocusGroup.com or FindFocusGroups.com.
Tutoring or Teaching: Offer tutoring services in subjects you excel in, or teach a skill you're passionate about. You can find clients locally or through online platforms like Tutor or Chegg Tutors.
Photography or Art: If you have photography or artistic skills, offer your services for events, portraits, or commissions. You can quickly earn money by taking photos at events, selling prints, or creating custom artwork.
Odd Jobs: Look for one-time gigs or odd jobs posted in your area. These could include helping with moving, organizing, or event setup. Check local classified ads, Craigslist, or community bulletin boards for opportunities.
Temporary Work: Contact temporary staffing agencies in your area to see if they have any immediate job openings. These agencies often have short-term assignments in various industries that can pay well.
Quick Tasks on Microtask Platforms: Complete short tasks on microtask platforms like Amazon Mechanical Turk, Clickworker, or Microworkers. These tasks may include data entry, transcription, or image labeling.

2024.05.15 06:34 tylercoder Why isn't the hangprinter more popular?

The idea is great but I hardly see any builds out there besides the original even tho this concept has tremendous potential as you can print big things like furniture or even small vehicles.
Is it because (afaik) nobody is selling an already assembled ready to use model? Or something else?

We recently had a huge fight and I want a breakup. We are not married but have a son and bought a house in Dec 2022 in NY.
I paid all the down payment plus all major renovations and 80% of furniture and appliances, total close to 200k, he paid some of the furniture and appliances (total about 10k), he did most of the furniture assembly work, and some electrical work. We are both on the deed n mortgage, I’m making more than him so we are paying mortgage utilities n other expenses like 60(me)/40(him).
Idk what to do with the house, if we sell the house, will he just take half of the net regardless who paid more? I also don’t wanna keep the house bc I don’t wanna live in this area where he grew up. What can I do?

2024.05.15 04:00 SorbetSerious6013 Come to the US for financial stability but don't lose your MENTAL STABILITY

I came to the US for a master's degree in Fall 2019. The timing was terrible. I spent 1.5 years in lockdown due to Covid and felt terrible. Then, from Q4 2022, I faced the fear of layoffs, H1B lottery, and H1B stamping, until I finally got laid off last month.
I wrote a post that went viral. thanks to everyone who reached out. I was devastated and each comment on that post helped me a lot. I'm still job searching with 44 days left in my grace period. I've been applying for jobs for a month without a single callback. No one is hiring someone with less experience(your resume isn't even viewed if u have < 5yoe). I do have debt, but it's against my property in India which I bought last year and I've convinced my family to sell it and clear my debt.
So, the grind from 2019 till now—from August 2019 to December 2021 for my master's, and from January 2022 to April 2024 at my job—has left me with a net worth of $50k after clearing my $60k education loan. I lived alone without room mate for 3 years(cost was high but I had terrible experience with room mates in univ, maybe due to the lockdown). I visited three states on a solo trip after starting my job, enjoyed week-long luxury vacations each time and savored my ME time. I never went on a vacation in India with my parents for 22 years(my only vacation was grandparents house, lol).
Living alone here, I learned to cook, assemble furniture, and fix things like the kitchen sink and plumbing skills I wouldn't have learned in India. Despite the sadness of losing my independent life, I'm slowly coming to terms with reality. It seems a blessing in disguise sometimes because it's better if I return to India, as my mental health is deteriorating, possibly due to loneliness or depression. I feel there is a void in my life and i just cant explain it.
I just wanted to post this for everyone who thinks everything is sorted in the US once you come here for a master's. I have seen many people who graduated last year and haven't found a job yet, they're working in local stores, hotels, and gas stations to clear their student loan. Not everyone who comes to the US from India lands a job at FAANG, that's a small number.
Youtubers and Instagrammers are misrepresenting reality every day for their likes, views(especially that guy, Parth, on Instagram). He paints a different picture of the US, hiding the immigration struggles and luring young minds from India.
A net worth of $50k after five years is pretty disappointing by Desi standards. I console myself that at least I'm not in $100k debt like others who haven't found a job yet after graduating. Please decide wisely about your future and finances. I feel I lost my late 20s chasing the American dream.
Physical health + Mental health + family >>>>>>>>>
Vent over. Bye

2024.05.15 01:50 OTonConsole Which of these tools will be the best fit for me.

What I will be doing,
drilling holes in 1" - 1.5" thick wood (once every other week). drilling holes in sheet metal / pipe (once a month). For these 2 tasks I wanna use the Diablo bits, I will be pulling cables through these holes.
Building furniture, (once or twice a month) I will mostly drive through pre drilled holes, and stuff I assemble are usually really delicate. But sometimes, maybe 30% of the time I might have to drill a holes before driving if it's not already drilled.
Making 6mm in diameter holes in concrete wall. (Once every 2-3 months). I live in a concrete apartment and may occasionally need to hang something like a pot etc on the wall.
So for all these types of work. Could someone recommend me a tool and a bit set I could order online.
As for the tools, I really like these 2 - https://a.co/d/ggEMwot - https://a.co/d/8cBUD66
I found out that the Milwaukee one is actually available locally, as I have a store for them. So if the Dewalt one is better, I'll have to order it online, which I don't mind.
I would need to find a good bit set with a mix of everything for what I will be doing but I guess ill figure that out and try different ones and learn on my own. A reference or link to a good guide will be nice though.
And lastly, I have an arm injury atm, so a tool that has anti kickback will be a plus for me, especially since this will be my first time using power tools. I also wanna clarify that I want to, for now, buy a single tool that is right for what I need. I can buy more later if need arise.
Thanks
