2024.05.15 23:15 SanMartianRover This is how boomers act with tech support. And this was someone that worked AT A CHURCH.

I've found that almost EVERY time I get a user who works for a church, they are incredibly rude, idiotic people who treat customer service like absolute trash. They are horrible. The worst insults I've gotten at this job have been from people who work at churches or realtors. Anyway, here's the transcript of our conversation today.
(03:43:30 PM) me: Hello! Thanks so much for contacting WEBSITE Support. My name is BLANK and I will be very happy to help you. Please allow me a few moments to access your account.
(03:44:16 PM) ID10T: BLANK--I'm thinking about switching PROJECT platforms because I cannot stand every single frickin time I want to access & make changes to my PROJECT , I have to go through 2 factor identification.
(03:44:24 PM) ID10T: I'm getting sick of it!
(03:44:36 PM) ID10T: And then it says, skip for 2 weeks--nope that doesn't work either!!!!!
(03:44:55 PM) ID10T: Get someone to shut down that security measure on our account.
(03:45:15 PM) ID10T: If someone wants to hack out account, I'm o.k. with that. Let them.
(03:45:55 PM) me: We can't turn that off, but there may be some reason the login cookie is getting deleted on your machine. WEBSITE uses a login cookie that expires after 2 weeks. If you clear this cookie, you will be required to login the next time you visit WEBSITE. If you have any kind of browser extension or anti-virus that clears cookies on an active basis, that could be clearing the login cookie for WEBSITE and causing you to be logged out. I suggest checking into that. This could be a behavior of the browser itself, an addon/extension of the browser, anti-virus on your computer or even apps/processes being run on your machine by your business (if you are not on a personal device). Also are you running AVG? In most cases, that is the anti-virus which is causing issues with the login cookie.
(03:46:43 PM) ID10T: I do not have this problem with ANY OTHER PLATFORM except WEBSITE
(03:46:48 PM) ID10T: and it's super annoying
(03:46:55 PM) ID10T: I don't even know what AVG is
(03:47:11 PM) me: It is anti-virus software. Are you on a personal machine?
(03:47:17 PM) me: Or is it managed by your organization?
(03:47:19 PM) ID10T: Just have one of your IT guys go into our account & deactivate all this crap
(03:47:37 PM) ID10T: my machine is managed by my organization
(03:47:44 PM) me: That's not how it works I'm sorry. The login is maintained by a cookie which gets saved to the device. If it's deleted, the login is not maintained.
(03:47:51 PM) ID10T: Actually, no, I think you would classify it as personal
(03:48:16 PM) ID10T: They why do I not have this problem with any other platform. Sometimes it logs me out within minutes
(03:48:24 PM) ID10T: then I have to get another code all over again.
(03:48:33 PM) ID10T: Can you not appreciate how annoying this is????????????
(03:48:37 PM) me: I do
(03:48:45 PM) me: I understand it's frustrating and I am talking you through the solution.
(03:48:56 PM) ID10T: It is super annoying. Annoying enough that I'm looking at Constant Contact just to be free from your stupid security
(03:49:00 PM) me: Are you running any privacy extensions in your browser?
(03:49:17 PM) ID10T: I have no idea about privacy extentions in my brows
(03:49:26 PM) ID10T: I'm not a computer scientist
(03:49:36 PM) ID10T: I just want to work on my fricken campaign!!!
(03:50:25 PM) ID10T: Turn it off! Get your IT guys to turn it off on our account. We don't care
(03:50:47 PM) me: That isn't an option. Are you running any anti-virus on your computer?
(03:50:50 PM) ID10T: Am I the only person who's frustrated as hell with this annoying blip in your system?
(03:51:07 PM) me: No, it has come up before which is why I know what causes the issue. I know it is frustrating. I am trying to help you.
(03:51:28 PM) ID10T: I have no idea if I have anti-virus software on my machine.
(03:51:51 PM) me: Are you working for a company that has IT available that could find out?
(03:52:16 PM) ID10T: Yes, but then I have to pay him $90/hour. Are you going to give me 6 months free to get this problem resolved?
(03:52:50 PM) ID10T: That feels like a good solution. Give me 6 months or even a year for free and you won't hear from me again. I'll pay to get your platform fixed!!!
(03:53:25 PM) ID10T: You know, it used work perfectly fine. We have been long, long customers of yours. And then, no...someone had to "FIX" the platform & now it sucks!
(03:54:44 PM) me: This is not an appropriate reason to provide credit, I'm sorry. Let's try this. Can you go to the profile icon in your account, click it, and at the bottom, it says Cookie Preferences. Click that and make sure all cookies are enabled. Let me know when that is complete.
(03:54:47 PM) ID10T: Sometimes i have to enter a code like 4 or 5 times a day
(03:55:24 PM) ID10T: well, it's stuck behind this chat window...
(03:55:35 PM) me: You can open WEBSITE in a new tab
(03:55:37 PM) ID10T: I'm not able to move the chat window? or am I
(03:56:52 PM) ID10T: I'm trying to find cookie preferences
(03:56:57 PM) ID10T: it's not jumping out at me...
(03:57:18 PM) me: It's at the bottom, here is a screenshot: [image]
(03:58:45 PM) ID10T: Essential Website Cookies Always Active
(03:58:53 PM) me: All of them are enabled?
(03:59:32 PM) me: Especially we want Performance and Functionality Cookies enabled
(03:59:36 PM) me: The little slider should be green
(03:59:50 PM) ID10T: Performance and Functionality Cookies I had to hit the slider on this one
(04:00:03 PM) ID10T: same with analytics & customization
(04:00:08 PM) me: Ok they were off?
(04:00:18 PM) ID10T: yes
(04:00:27 PM) ID10T: 2 of the were off... analytics & performance
(04:00:28 PM) me: The performance one is most important. That should fix it.
(04:00:49 PM) me: It MAY require you to verify one more time, but it should work for 2 weeks after that.
(04:01:16 PM) ID10T: OK BLANK. I guess I can't test it while I'm logged in here but I hopeyou are right.
(04:01:26 PM) me: I hope you have a wonderful day :)
(04:01:31 PM) ID10T: You too!
(04:01:32 PM) me: Thanks for contacting WEBSITE support. Have a great day.
They had cookies disabled.
Isn't it amazing how childish boomers are? Why do they think that being rude is the best option? They actively make the world worse with everything they do.

2024.05.15 23:08 Ok-Case-5084 Help Restore Grandma's Stolen Savings

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, We are reaching out today to share the story of our beloved Grandma Judie, an 85-year-old woman who has recently fallen victim to a heartless crime. In a world where seniors should be enjoying their golden years in peace and comfort, she has instead been thrust into a distressing situation that has left her financially and emotionally devastated. What Happened: A few weeks ago, her bank account was hacked, and her life savings were stolen. This money was not just numbers in a bank; it was the culmination of years of hard work, careful saving, and prudent financial planning. It was meant to cover her daily living expenses, medical bills, and the little joys in life that every elderly person deserves. It sounds like the script of the movie, "The Beekeeper" with Jason Statham, and happens more and more every day. The Impact: The loss has been overwhelming. Grandma has always been fiercely independent, relying on her savings to maintain her dignity and autonomy. Now, without these funds, she faces uncertainty and insecurity. The emotional toll has been significant, and the financial burden has added a weight that no one her age should have to bear. Why We Need Your Help: We are only asking for a mere $1000 to help her get by while the bank and police sort out who was responsible. This amount will cover her immediate needs. How You Can Help: Donate: Any amount, big or small, will make a significant difference. Every dollar brings us closer to restoring Grandma's faith in humanity and peace of mind. Share: Please share this campaign with your network. The more people who know about my Grandma's plight, the quicker we can reach our goal.

2024.05.15 22:51 devpat89 Not able to log in - IP blocked after single attempt

Update: marking this as solved. I don't know what caused the lock out - I'm 100% certain I only entered my password once. "Resolution" if it counts: I'm thankful I had the DSfinder app installed on my ipad through which I was able to see "IP Blocking" settings and managed to unblock the IP address of my PC. Had forgotten I had installed it on that device. Don't think it contributed to the issue as again, device is WiFI only and never open the Synology app. Just massively relieved!
Hi All,
Would appreciate some help here. I'm really confused what's going on.
Background
I last logged into my DSM 2 days ago on my PC. Just tried to log in right now and something odd happened, I'm used to signing in by entering my password followed by 2FA code even though it's my personal device. This time on attempting to sign on to my admin account, after entering my username I received a message to validate my log in using the Synology Secure SignIn app instead of entering a password. I do not have the app. I tried another non-admin account, still the same message. Upon attempting to log in with a password, instead I receive a message saying too many failed attempts have been made to log in and the IP address has been blocked. To be clear, I had not made any prior attempts from my personal device (it was sleeping until about 5 minutes before I attempted to log in). Although I couldn't access my DSM account, I was still able to access my mapped network drives. I tried to restart my PC and tried to log in again, but same result, and this time no luck with accessing mapped network drives either.
Edit to add: I never log into my NAS through any other devices besides this PC in my home network.
Existing Security
My NAS is exposed to the internet only via Plex. It is port forwarded so not the standard 32400 and behind a double nat. Plex has a secure password and also has 2FA.
I have firewall rules set up so only can be accessed in my country of origin UK, and after 3 or 5 wrong attempts I believe it blocks the IP. Prior to this I've never had any attempts made on my NAS.
I have my original admin account disabled, and the new one is super obscure. My password is beyond what is reflected here: https://caltechsites-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/imss/images/2023_Password_Table_Square.original.jpg
In addition, I haven't logged into my authenticator app on this device.
Oddities
One of the drives I have is dedicated to media. I'm still able to access this through Plex. I run Plex through docker and I am still able to access this through my NAS IP address.
Edit to add: I have DLNA enabled on my NAS, I'm able to access media through this as well (including through my PC).
I have another laptop that was also sleeping. I've just switched it on, it is still connected to my mapped network drives and I can access the majority of them (different limited access credentials), but none of the content is blocked by any means. I never attempt to log into DSM through this laptop. Only the initial mapping of the drives.
I've not received any emails notifying that I've been hacked/my content has been locked until I pay
Synology assistant isn't having luck finding the Synology NAS on the network at all either.
Maybe related
I've requested a speed upgrade from my internet provider. They've sent me a new router and asked me to plug it in within 5 days. I've not done this yet and was actually logging into my DSM account to double check all my settings prior to switching out.
If you're still reading, thanks so much!
At this point I'm clueless if it's something malicious or not. I'm going to run Malwarebytes overnight on my PC. Is there a chance that a change at my ISP side could result in the above?
I'm thinking worst case scenario I've been hacked, but let's say I have a keylogger on my machine, is it possible for them to break into my NAS based on my passwords alone? My 2FA is always from my personal phone and I don't log into that on my PC. Really not sure how else they could have gotten access, and again, no emails or anything, nothing has been zipped.
Would appreciate your help / suggestions on what I can do here please!
Thanks!

2024.05.15 22:21 jasgaspy [A4A] Partner Hunting: The Post

Quick tags and notes: My discord account was hacked so anyone who previously rped with me can hit me up and I can give you my new alt. [Not looking to replace anyone. OC x OC only. ]
Pairings: [MxM] [FxF] [NBxM] [NBxF] [NBxNB] [FxM]
Welcome Genres: [Fantasy] [Romance] [Historical] [Modern] [SOL] [Drama] [Horror]
Who I am: I'm JJ! A 25 year old roleplayer of over a decade. I'm nonbinary, have autism, adhd, and I really enjoy writing as a way to explore my creative ideas and socialize with others via common interests. I live in the EST Timezone.
Special interests: My main one that often connects to roleplays I do is japanese history and culture, particularly mythology and religion. I have a similar interest in chinese and other asian mythologies as well as bits and pieces from many cultures.
Other favored rp tropes/plots/subjects: I'm really into plots involving royalty and tend to vibe more with medieval or premodern settings. Opposites attract is one of my favorite tropes.
Writing details/habits: While I don't claim to be the most skilled or amazing writer, I am very passionate about it and do genuinely enjoy writing. I only write in 3rd person but tense can get a little tricky for me so I don't tend to be a stickler for perfect grammar or spelling, so long as I understand what's going on and effort was put in. As much as I'd like to say that length doesn't matter, the more you're capable of writing, the better. This isn't saying that you have to bust out a 5,000 word essay every response or even that I expect a majority of posts to be super long, especially if there isn't much going on to write about. But I can go past the discord character limit 2 or 3 times over in a post before I've written everything I want to get into my reply and I'd like a partner that can go as hard as I do in writing when the situation calls for it.
Schedules and Reply Frequency: I'm a stay at home fiance and that allows me a good bit of freedom when it comes to my schedule, but I also tend to put replying to rps lower on my priority list. Taking care of my family and myself will always come first, plus the adhd and autism can affect my attention span or level of burnout pretty significantly, so while I do my best and do love rping, I like to take my time and welcome ppl to ping me for an update if they want it, as that's what I normally do as well. I might not be around as frequently some days, it really just depends on what comes up and how I'm feeling.
If you're interested: please be 19+ years old and have discord. Please try to incorporate the type of info i shared in your message to me. Accepted pairings, genres, who you are, what your interests are, favorite plots/tropes, writing habits and/or details, reply frequency, and any questions/anything you want from my reply to your welcome message!

2024.05.15 21:48 berrythebarbarian I Fixed It

Tank passive now grants full immunity to CC (all of it: nade, stuns, everything) except from ultimates, the dps passive, and other tanks. This is just where we are now. You can now play road hog into Ana without mandating your teammate play Kiri. And since healing can't be negated as a defense it should be balanceable. There will be wide ranging changes to account for this, but anyone who's value came from making tanks not able to play might not should have been doing that.
McCree is moved to Support. Flavor as frontier healing or whatever. He gains a Field Medicine ability that creates a heal aura similar to Soldier. Down to 50 a shot. This isn't even a CC thing I just think he'd be more fun.
Mei is also a support, with lowered damage but added healing. Moira peed in her tank.
Old Orisa is added back in. I miss old horse. New horse gets less hp but gains speed during Fortify. Look. She's fun now.
Sym is a Support again. Turret, TP, and a shield generator little robot that follows people around and gives them 50 over health. Like a tethered, worse Bap lamp. Still no heal because I liked that injury lawyer Sym meme.
Sombra is a tank. Invis is back on a cool down, she explodes out of translocator now, hack is attached to a semi-skill shot grenade.
Echo is moved to The Dumpster where she Fucking Belongs. I hate this hero.
Bap Lamp now has 50 more HP and gives 50% dr. This isn't a meme idea it's just, like, clearly how it should work? Am I crazy?

2024.05.15 21:35 StonedMackin The Internet didn't ruin humanity, humans ruined the Internet

I commonly see this sentiment that the Internet ruined humanity but I would like to say it's actually humanity that's ruined the Internet. We created the Internet and we've ruined the Internet.
You can't go anywhere on the Internet without coming across some human being shitty. You go on a dating app? Shitty people with fake account after fake account attempting to scam you out of money, or rob you or whatever it is.
You can't go on an online game without some shitty person attempting to ruin everyone else's fun by hacking or actively ruining their gameplay.
You can't post things to sell on marketplaces without being bombarded with bot messages attempting to scam you.
You can't go on social medias/forums without seeing people attempt to manipulate your emotions for their own emotional support/boost (trolling, etc) or just being the utmost typical person/walking trope imaginable.
Everywhere you go on the Internet there's someone attempting to cause you financial, emotional, sometimes physical, etc harm. Yeah there seems to be more good people than not but the others really ruin things a lot of the part even with their minimal numbers.
You can't even make a simple post in a Facebook community without some scam account attempting to get information from you with questions (a lot of them being security style questions) or to get you to tap a link to either put something on your device, log you, etc.
In almost every comment section you see either one of these, a combination of these or all of these; racism, sexism, trolling, anti natalism and just extreme hatred in general, disrespect, being rude/outright, assumptions upon assumptions, the inability to accept people's religious (or lack of) beliefs, personal opinions and other ways of life, others repeating each other's top comments in an attempt to get Internet attention, etc. There's a lot of good comments too don't get me wrong but you're almost never able to go to one comment section without seeing it to some extent.
Then you have the constant political back and forths. The amount of accessible NSFW content to children (and honestly some of it shouldn't be accessible to anyone, adults included). The amount of fucked up/backwards sentiments just freely flowing around. The predatory data farming and information mining. The fact SEO has pretty much been ruined by companies and individuals skewing the search results for their own benefit, the fact AI chats, etc have incorporated into it making so many results just redundant/fake, that companies prioritize money over accuracy/use ability, the fact marketing has been allowed to get to where it's gotten (every single thing on the Internet having marketing connected to it), the people that are out to scam, finesse and outright rob you (eBay, marketplaces, fake Amazon stores, Craigslist, etc).
Unfortunately we as humans have been like this before the internet, the Internet just gave these people a networking platform. Yeah maybe the Internet did influence a lot of people to do these things, or opened more doors to do these things or taught people how to do these things but these things are human society.
The Internet didn't destroy humanity, humanity destroyed the internet, which was supposed to be (and continues to be) a useful tool for countless of things. Human greed, human negativity, human desperation, human selfishness, human ignorance, human hatred, etc all made these things (and the countless more examples I could have given) possible.

2024.05.15 20:31 Acrobatic_Concept824 What were they talking about?

Before I start: yes I'm getting professional help.
Some context: 2 things are wrong
-I am scared shitless of having my consciousness transferred into a bad simulation when I die. Everyone in my life is aware of this fear and keep me going about it, scaring me on purpose.
-My devices are hacked by someone and people in my life have all the details of my accounts etc. I know this because they have repeated back to me my private info.
Ok, moving on:
I overheard a coworker say to another coworker "I hate honesty". I'm not sure if I heard them right but I probably have. I thought that if they were saying, they were mocking me for hating when people would scare me about the afterlife. As if those people were "just being honest".
It so happens that I feel like people act like I deserve what's going on. I posted somewhere on reddit that morning about how it upsets me when people act like I deserve what's happening to me.
Could the comment about "honesty" be about the whole afterlife scenario or could it be about me deserving to have gotten hacked?

2024.05.15 20:28 Henti-Boady-pillow How to Credit Card

Simply: Buy -> Pay -> Credit Up
Non-Simply:
Now check splitting.
Now Credit Cards.
How to Keep Track of Spending
How to Track Spending on Paper
How Credit works & how to get more Spending Money
Super Basic Stuff
Dont keep Important Numbers on Digital Devices so
Technology Maybe Good but IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE, a piece of paper cant be hacked.
The only thing you use the checking card for is paying back credit cards, savings is an emergency fund pretty much.
Modern US society is basically built around credit cards so when someone ask "how can i build credit without credit?" you still have money on the first credit card, using that money and paying back is how the credit and money goes up
you can file directly to the irs also with taxes https://www.irs.gov/filing https://www.irs.gov/payments
the irs should tell you if you do it right, renting wont be as difficult because the landlord pays the taxes you just pay a share.
Im no expert but its better than getting into a debt trap, if you keep up with credit. Cars, houses, collage should be the only debts you take on just pay them on time so intrest doesnt go up.
The housing industry is basically built on debt so you could be a million in debt but aslong as you pay the specified amount every period the debt wont go up or down but that debt amd can count as you having a million dollar networth.
if you dont want to pay taxes just dont ever file make checks physical and use cash. its becoming more difficult with most places phasing cash out.
if theres any question you can ask, i know theres older folks on here that can give extra knowledge ontop of this. Seeing its just a basic how credit works and how to use it smartly.
something something be responible.

2024.05.15 19:56 Jacktaz1018 Journey getting my xbox live back

This is a on going journey at the moment.
On Sunday, May, 12th my mixrosoft account was hacked. Password and email changed. I now have no access to this account anymore. Ive had this account for over 15 years so you can imagine how much money I spent over the years.I went down the rabbit hole on trying to get in contact with microsoft. As most know, that's a impossible mission.
I did however try to recover my account by sending in a request ticket that can give me access back to my account. Asked for information like email address, secondary email address to send ticket info to, credit card used for purchases (last 4 digits and exp date) gamert tag, console ID and a few other things. After about a hour I recieved a email stating the following:
"Thank you for your Microsoft account recovery request.
Unfortunately, we are not able to assist you with your request. Your Microsoft account appears to be provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Please contact your ISP to assist you with your account recovery.
The account recovery request ********* for the account name@email address will be closed.
Thank you,
Microsoft Support Team
Microsoft Corporation One Microsoft Way Redmond, WA 98052 USA"
Now obviously, my ISP did not set up my account for me. For 2 days, I tried many different ways to contact Microsoft in order to talk to someone on the phone. All google search ended with numbers for a automated system that tells me to change my password online. No hope of speaking to a human being. Went back to the rabbit hole lurking at different reddit posts and seems like all hope may be gone. I'm too stubborn to allow this to happen. So let the brainstorming begin.
Obviously, the only way to speak to a rep on the phone, you need a account. So I made a dummy email address and a dummy xobox account with a dummy xbox live gamer tag. Went to contact us at this website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus
Was able to request a phone call about my subscription. Recieved a phone call in less than 2 minutes. Was on the phone with the agent for about 27 minutes.
In that time, I explained the situation. He looked into my compromised account and created a service ticket for me. Then escalated it for the tech department to hopefully get to work on it. I was emailed a long form that asks a lot of information (more than the online account recovery) to prove that I am who I am claiming to be. A victim of a cyber crime. I filled out the form and uploaded to the website that was in the email and forwarded it to the service rep that I spoke with.
I was also instructed to make another account (that's not my dummy account because it already have a gamertag attached to it) the reason for the new microsoft account is if they can recover my hacked account they can migrate all my account stuff (game purchases, cloud game saves, game pass subscription etc) from my hacked account to the new (and hopefully saved account).
Now the wait begins. I will post updates as time goes on. Let's hope for the best

2024.05.15 19:12 This-Fix9864 What exactly ate the capabilities of my hackers?

So I know how nothing of hacking and technology. My Whatsup app got hacked, I had texts open. They took over everything, my email, my social media. I'm learning how to correct it the best I can. Tired deleting Google mail. That didn't work. But this is not my question. My question is, it got so bad that they even cloned my phone. Like how bad is this? I texted my husband on that phone, are they on his phone now? Are they on the phone of the people's texts I never deleted? Are they on everyone's Whatsup app?
Edit: I'm going to try to keep this short. Just to let you know I am aware of how incompetent I am, and I really appreciate your advice, because I don't know what to do at this point.
I had a phone from MetroPCS. I dropped the phone lots of times, had cracks in the screen, would use it while I was smoking cigarettes and raining etc. It started acting up, I didn't think anything of it. The screen started twitching, and one day I couldn't log into it. I thought I had dried it out some, and was able to log into it the day I bought a new phone on the same plan, with the same number. I transferred all my accounts, it was hard to do cause the screen twitched and apps would close on their own and I would have to go back and forth to get my information. I put the phone down, telling myself that I would get around to getting other information like the many chrome windows I had open. Logging out of everything etc. It died, I never got back to it. I'm using my new phone. I notice that there are some screen shots of job postings from my whatsapp groups. Haven't used the app in a while. Didn't know how whatto make of it. Time passes and I get a call from what's app. I accidentally answered it so I did say hello, didn't get much hung up. Time passes. I'm doing things exac6the same, not deleting emails, not deleting texts etc. My new phone starts glitching. Screens minimize on there own, keyboard not recognizing every command. Slow speeds. I didn't know how what to do so I tried to get a hold of my accounts. I put 2 step verification on. My passwords kept changing. And my account says Andriod pixel 6 is signed in multiple times. I stopped receiving texts except from my husband, I tried deleting the accounts, but my yahoo mail was attached to them and they were opened back up. I realized it was my old phone, didn't log out of anything and rebooted it. Facebook was taken over, I couldn't make any changes, because I could not keep my password mine., Whatsup app was added to one of the accounts which I didn't do. I deleted all my friends, because I didn't know what to do. I also rebooted this phone, twice I think. The first time I noticed a couple duplicates of apps like Google. And the second time I noticed it was downloading way more, so I stopped the download and made a new account. I just got a new phone, and it is glitching. All new information. New service etc. Curser moving on its own. Some weird gray G for Google logo at the top and a blank screen window that popped up and magicaly went away. My husband's PayPal account was broken into today, he deleted the app, deleting all the notifications in his email and called his bank. I'm at a loss. Do I log back in on my old phone to log back out? Or just contact Google and all the companies? Do I contact all my contacts attached to Google and tell them what?
Do I get new wifi? Just found out that my Avast app lock magicaly had a the apps unlocked.

2024.05.15 18:45 Ambitious_Bird434 Questions from an aspiring newtuber

Hi everyone, I've been on YouTube for a while now, my account is probably older than some YouTubers have been alive even, it's crazy to think how much Youtube has changed the world and that so many young Gen Z people today don't remember life before Youtube. But anyways, I'm looking to start making my channel active on YouTube and had some questions for everyone, I appreciate anyone who engages in good faith.
-What is the best recommended video editing software to use that is free and also takes into account a simple and understandable interface? I'm not a complete novice, I've used different things before but I don't have a lot of advanced experience like professionals who work on big budget films or anything and I don't actively edit. I'm sure technology for video editing software has continued to evolve over time and I have fallen behind the times, what's all the good new stuff nowadays? I'm just a normal tech savvy-ish person. Just looking for something that has depth and good features to it but not too overwhelming to where the advanced features become more of a distraction rather than anything else. (This question hits two birds with one stone too because I'm a teacher who needs to choose a software to use for editing video clips together for the school I work for as well.)
-I have been on YouTube for a while now, my account was made in 2006 and I have only sporadically uploaded over the years with no goal in mind other than to just upload for fun. I uploaded a couple of videos of talks with celebrities in 2021 got some nice view numbers from 10k-70k (imo as a non-active channel with just 350something subs). Should I continue uploading on my personal account or start from a brand new account? I was thinking to myself, does my account's longevity help with anything at all? Or the videos I just mentioned? I even have a video that was uploaded in 2006. Would audiences care about the old stuff or just new stuff? The thing is too, I know Youtubers get hacked too the more well known you become and if one day (I don't mean to be presumptuous here either by implying I know I will be well known or not, it's just me thinking ahead and being ready) but if I get hacked one day, that in and of itself will suck but I think about all my personal content on YouTube that I've added over the years that I don't want to lose or private videos i don't want others to see out there. This would technically be at risk too. Anyways, these are just some thoughts I've had, I'm wondering what best practices would be. Just make that new channel or maybe move all my personal things into a new channel and make my "old channel" the "new channel".
-Reality is I get busy, I don't plan on starting this project until I'm in a lifestyle where I'm allowed to put in the grind and hours of being a youtuber but if in the event I get a following and then I need to take a break or anything what should I do? Does your momentum suddenly stop and subscribers just leave on their own after not seeing you for a while or do they stick around?
-What's the best thing I should do to work the algorithm in my favor? In terms of best practices when uploading a video, being searchable, and what I should tell subscribers to do when watching? beyond basic hashtags I suppose or hitting like, commenting, and subscribing like everyone else says.
-I think most people will say it's good to have a specific brand or concept/idea for your channel but what if I personally want some variety? (like vlogging, podcasting, video game plays, unboxings, reviews, etc.) Is this just a non-negotiable to just pick one thing and stick to it?
-Should I think about my target audience or just do what I want and leave it to the people to decide if my stuff is good and relevant to them?
-At what point do you start making money from Youtube and this becomes a professional career as opposed to just a hobby? Is it based on views and such? How do you get paid? Is there any extra signing up I have to do beyond just having my YouTube account? Money isn't a huge motivating factor, i don't expect Logan Paul or Mr.beast numbers but it'd be nice to know that making videos could become modest side income or regular income in the future too.
Thank you everyone for your help

2024.05.15 17:41 destinedhere58 Mother threatening to keep baby from father

I’m posting on behalf of my brother who doesn’t have a Reddit account.
He and his girlfriend of 2 years broke up last week. They share a 6 month old baby. They were living the house she inherited from her parents. She told him to leave after shoving him twice, breaking his phone, iPad and PlayStation because he wanted to come visit me with the baby on my birthday she didn’t want to. My brother has since told me this isn’t the first time she’s broke his things, put her hands on him and she regularly screams at him and belittles him. He is on the birth certificate and the baby is a junior - I’m not sure if that matters.
He has stayed until now because he didn’t want to leave his son. In the past week she has hacked into all of his social media accounts, email, and texted his boss lies.
She’s sent texts threatening to burn his stuff, kill his pets (reptiles), and what is most worrying to my brother is she’s not letting him see the baby and says unless they get back together he will never see his son again. He has already filed for shared custody (the day after he moved out) and has been saving all of her texts.
Is there anything else we can do in the mean time? She won’t let him pick up any of his clothes and he really wants to see his son for at least a few hours. He is in Bucks County, PA.

2024.05.15 17:05 NozukiGX Account Hacked/Re-linked and sold

Hi, it's been almost a year since I've been hacked. It started somewhere around August - December 2023 when someone on techno phone logged into my account even tho I only linked it with Facebook. I have all my rightful suspicion to say that my account worth around 100$ max is being sold somewhere in the Russian market with multiple phone logging in. Out of 5-7 Customer Support claims, only 1 was accepted and that was back in 2023. CS unlinked email and phone for me to re link but they did it while I was asleep and thus the hacker simply relinked his own email/ph. He has turned on secondary certification but he has turned it off around 2024/04/27 from the logs.
Like another post somewhere, I WILL link every damn photos/details regarding that this account belongs to me. Original Clan : IJN (InJinnWeTrust)

Yes I bought the RP. I am tired, ive submitted so many CS request and till now as of this post date, they rejected again. One of the pics i even circled my device in red.

2024.05.15 16:15 Glum-Dimension1708 Hire a hacker? How can I hack my cheating spouse WhatsApp and read his or her chats remotely?

Actually, it is possible to see someone's WhatsApp messages through your phone without any trace to you. All you need is the targeted WhatsApp number alone. But to hack into someone's WhatsApp account remotely it requires technical knowledge. There are few spy app which can be use to spy someone WhatsApp account to gain access to the targeted WhatsApp number. Like I told you initially this question required spyware skills. So, therefore, I will have to suggest you hire a professional ethical hacker to help you fix your social media hacking services

2024.05.15 16:02 Meia_Ang [Discussion] Quarterly Non-Fiction Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, Chapters 11-17

Hello everyone, welcome to the third discussion about Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. Hope you studied hard this week, I sure did!

Summary

Previously, in Thinking Fast and Slow, we followed Kahneman and Amos’s academic bromance in the wonderful world of decision making and biases. Our two main characters model two kinds of behavior of the brain. System 1, always on, is the intuitive one, that makes continual judgments and assumptions. System 2 is the slower one, only called when necessary, that produces rational thinking, mathematical reasoning, and is awfully lazy. We learned that even specialists are really bad at intuitive statistics and apply the law of small numbers when they shouldn’t.
Chapter 11: Anchors When we are asked to consider a possible solution to an estimation problem (eg, did Gandhi die after 100 years old?), our answer will be close to this number, like it’s anchored to it. Even when the proposition is obviously unrelated, like with a rigged wheel of fortune. It has many consequences, like with real estate prices and every negotiation. If someone starts one with an absurd price, make a big fuss and stop it until a more reasonable offer.
Both systems cause this behavior. System 1 because of priming (unconscious influence of a previous information). System 2 makes us start at the anchor, and then adjust, often not enough.
Btw, here are the answers to the questions, it annoyed me that they weren’t in the book. Washington became president in 1789. Waters boils at around 70°C/160°F on top of the Everest. Gandhi died at 78 years old.
Chapter 12: Availability We learn about the availability bias. When we are asked to estimate the frequency of an event, our answer depends on how easily we can retrieve examples from our memory. The more dramatic and personal the example is, the more it works. Making people list examples increases the perceived frequency, except when you ask too much. Finding 12 examples of something is hard, and your brain will interpret the cognitive fatigue as a less frequent phenomenon.
Chapter 13: Availability, emotion and risk Our perception of risk is biased by availability and the affect heuristic. If you feel strongly about something negative, you will evaluate the risk as stronger. It’s especially true with very small risks such as terrorism, which our brain is really bad at evaluating (it’s either ignored or given too much weight). And a recent disaster in the news will make us renew our insurance policies. There is a very negative correlation between benefit and risk in the mind of people. This means that if a technology is perceived as highly useful, you will perceive it as less risky, and vice versa.
Kahneman then presents two philosophies about risk assessment and how it affects public policy. There can be availability cascades around public panics such as the Love Canal controversy, fed by media frenzy and politics. Slovic thinks that risk being not objective (it depends on what parameter we prioritize, such as lives or money), the perception of the citizens should never be ignored. Sunstein wants risk experts to rule, because public pressure make the biased lawmakers prioritize the use of tax money inefficiently. Kahneman wisely stays in the middle of this merciless academic scuffle.
Chapter 14: Tom W Tom W is a fictional university student invented by Kahnmos. The goal of the exercise is to guess his specialty. The subjects are told the proportion of the students in each specialty (the base rate, humanities being more probable than STEM), and sometimes a (dubious) psychological profile. He’s described as a nerdy asocial guy who likes bad puns, and if you’re judging him, remember you’re on reddit, so don’t throw any stone here. Most people, even specialists, will infer that Tom studies Computer Science, despite the probabilities given by the base rate, that mean it is more probable for him to study Humanities. It’s because this tells a better story (they choose representativeness instead of base rate. Even if the added information is dubious. Once again, if system 2 is activated (eg by frowning), people will get closer to the base rate.
Kahneman then gives us advice to discipline our faulty intuitions. You just have to use Bayes’s rule and multiply probabilities in your head! Easy. If you cannot do that, I’m sorry you’re an embarrassment to your family and country, but just remember to stay close to the base rate and question the quality of the evidence.
Chapter 15: Linda or less is more Linda is another fictional character created to make us feel bad. She’s described as a left-leaning politically engaged woman. What is more probable, that she’s a bank teller or a feminist bank teller? Most people will choose the second. The problem is that feminist bank tellers are a subset of bank tellers, so there’s less of them (all feminist bank tellers are bank tellers, whereas only some bank tellers are feminist). So it’s mathematically less probable. However, it’s more plausible, tells a causal story, so our System 1 likes it. It’s called conjuction fallacy.
Apparently, Linda caused another controversy in the field of psychology, but Kahneman doesn’t go into details, probably to protect his readers from the gruesome imagery.
Chapter 16 Causes trump statistics We go back to a Tom-like experiment, comparing base rate to other information. When the base rate is neutral, people don’t care about it. But when it is causal and tells a story, the brain will take it into account more. The story (here, it is that a company’s cab cause most of the accidents) creates a stereotype in our head. And in this case, stereotyping helps improving the accuracy of our intuitions.
The author then discusses how to teach psychology to students. He describes the help experiment, where people isolated in booths heard a stooge pretending to die. A minority of people went to help, because of the dilution of responsibility (”someone else can do it!”). When faced to this result, most students accept it but it doesn’t really change their views, in particular of themselves. However, when shown some individuals and their choices, their ideas really evolved. Once again, we suck at statistics and love to make stories from anecdotes. But now we can hack it?
Chapter 17 Regression to the mean Every performance has a random element. That means that if someone has an exceptionally good run, in sports for instance, their results will go down in the future. The opposite is also true. This is called regression to the mean and happens all the time when there is randomness involved. But our brains love causality and will invent a story around it. For instance, this air cadet performed better the second time because I yelled at him, not because of randomness catching up with his bad luck. That’s why we need control groups in every experiment, because many sick people will get better because of time and statistics.
