2024.05.29 06:04 2cool4ashe Riot Games decides to commemorate top player Faker's 10 years of playing League of Legends professionally with...a purchasable $500 USD champion skin. Players react. A lot of players.

If you've never played League of Legends (abbrev. to LoL) before, there's just a few things you need to know:
  1. It's a 5v5 team game
  2. The playerbase is notoriously TOXIC as hell
  3. 'Faker' is the best LoL player Esports has ever seen, and even though he's played professionally for 10 years, he continues to get better and better
  4. A 'Skin' is an alternate appearance for a Champion (playable character) that you can buy with real money (but first you need to buy ingame currency called RP), or possibly get for free through freebie rewards from playing the game
  5. The average price of a Skin is $10 USD (1350 RP)
  6. Faker does not equip his Champion with a skin, opting to only use the default (free) appearance
Things begin 6 days ago when Riot Games posts a teaser trailer for a documentary film about Faker, titled "Hall of Legends: Faker', and it's set to release on the League of Legends Youtube channel June 14th. As part of the hype, 4 days ago, another Hall of Legends teaser video was released, this time showing a brand new Skin for the Champion Ahri, titled, 'Immortalized Legend Ahri'. It should be known that Ahri is one of the most popular Champs in the game, and Riot Games has continued to capitalize on that fact by producing more and more Skins for her.
Before this announcement, Ahri had 17 skins. Now, she will have 20, because this new Immortalized Legend Ahri skin has 3 variations, priced as 3 different bundles. Yes, this means, if you want any of these Skins, you have to buy one of the bundles that come with a bunch of other stuff, oh and the Skin too. Riot has also announced that 30% of the proceeds of this Skin line will go to Faker. So here are the prices:
Risen Legend Ahri Bundle (Basic): 5430 RP (~$40 USD) Immortalized Legend Ahri Bundle (Fancier): 32,430 RP (~$240 USD) Signature Ahri Bundle (Amazing!!!): 59,260 RP (~$500 USD)
How does leagueoflegends react? Let's take a look at the top thread as of this post: (Commenters will be C1, C2, C3, etc.)
C1: The way i thought 59k rp was a typo lmfaooo C2: i had to go look, then check the store, then go look again, then check the store again, and im still not completely sure this is actually real. i hope zero people buy the skins C3: My first thought was they wanted me to tell us we would get 59.620 RP of "value" from buying the battle pass C4: $500? Yeah no thanks lmao. Faker doesnt even use skins anyway. C5: If you wanna be like faker, don't buy a skin 💯 C6: For that kind of money I almost expect Faker himself to deliver me a code to the bundle C7: I would expect him to come home and play the next 10 matches for me and also go in a date together
One Redditor points out the irony of having the most expensive Skin in the game in honor of Faker, who doesn't use Skins:
C1: "Let's celebrate the face of our e-sport (who famously doesn't even spend money on skins) by absolutely overcharging the fuck out of his event skins." What the hell Riot lol C2: how ironic is that Faker himself is against using skins and they give him the most expensive skin ever made lol C3: Why is he against using skins? C2: He said before he sees skins as a waste of money and that the base skins are good enough for him, he has numerous world skins under his name but he used them less than 5 times in a 11 year career C3: The game is free, how else would it generate income if not for cosmetics? In its early days at least, I have no clue if the professional scene generates enough income to make it sustainable. [gets downvoted] C4: The comment above is straight up false information. Faker growing poor and couldn't afford skin and it became a habit of him so even with alot of money now he still don't buy skin. C3: What does he even spend money on? Doesn't he play league 24/7? [more downvotes] C5: Food, housing, and his future. Why would he spend money on a free game when he can save it and be 100% financially stable for the rest of his life. It's pretty pointless to spend money on league. C6: Pretty sure [T1, the team he plays for] covers his food and housing already lmao C3: [to C5] I'm sure that faker buying skins here and there would bankrupt him. C5: You're missing the point. People who grow up in poverty are generally going to avoid spending on things like that. It's not that it's going to bankrupt him, you're twisting my words in bad faith.
Several Redditors do the math to help themselves visualize the price of the most expensive bundle:
C1: $500 for a skin, that's a real signature move by Riot. C2: "most generous bundles" (40$ 💀) C3: Elden Ring´s DLC is cheaper C4: This is giving me real "pride and accomplishment" vibes lol C5: Would you rather have a) A couple of skins and some useless bs like icons and emotes b) A Steam Deck with a dozen of the best indie games ever made C6: c) rent money C7: Almost half my monthly wage 💀💀 C8: 3rd world country mfs got hit harrrd This shit is 2.5x my monthly 9 to 5 wage And I mean the full thing, no rent no food no bills nothing 2 and a half months of ice soup if I wanted to buy this lmao C9: This is like, 10 months worth of rent for me what the fuck C10: This is what I earn in a month (working 10h) 💀 I can decide between food and league skin
The comments keep coming in, so get popcorn ready, because there's more threads to read after that!
The Hall of Legends event was never about celebrating Faker, it was to use him to make money.
Almost every League player loves Faker and we would have loved to to own the Ahri skin dedicated to him. Riot putting the full skin behind 600$ paywall is the biggest insult imaginable to us. Riot chose to exploit our love for Faker for their own gain.
Meanwhile, in AhriMains, the Fox lovers are alternating between cope memes and boycott ideas:
I Blame the Whales for this.
Easy way to counter Riot's prices
The best way to rebel is to boycott Ahri herself
I think it’s atrocious that riot is pricing a skin bundle that costs half my paycheck for an entire month. I say let’s protest in a way that forces riot to the negotiating table. All we need to do is ban Ahri every single game. The whales will never get to enjoy the skin if they cannot play the champion, and then riot will be forced to lower prices. Similar strategies worked for ryze. Let’s work to get Ahri banrate to 100%. Edit: Big brain idea, link this post in every pre-game lobby and ask them to also do the same in their next game. Exponential spread. Also send this message below to all your friends and ask them to do the same, without the parenthesis. Grassroot movements need commitment. "Discourage riot from 500$ skin. Send to friends. https://old.reddit.com/AhriMains/comments/1d2rsi5/the_best_way_to_rebel_is_to_boycott_ahri_herself/?sort=top"

2024.05.29 04:53 skeeredstiff The disappearing ghost town.

In 1982, I and six buddies went bear hunting in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We were staying at some cabins near Twin Lakes at the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula. When you hunt most critters you go out before dawn and sit until an hour or two after the sun comes up and late afternoon until dark. Most bigger game animals hunker down during daylight hours, so it doesn't pay to sit all day. This means you have a lot of time between hunts; this part of the UP has some remote areas; it is also where a lot of copper mining went on in the old days; the mines are all closed now and mostly full of water. There are a lot of big paper mill holdings there also that are still being logged, so there are a lot of logging roads built by the paper mills; they are good enough roads for large double-trailer logs trucks filled with many tons of logs to travel on. One thing you learn quickly when you use these roads is to get the hell off the road when a truck is coming because they take up the whole road and they don't even slow down for civilians because the mill owns the roads, not the state or county and you are on their land, but as long as you don't get in the way they don't care. Most of the bridges across streams or rivers just consist of huge piles of large rocks with smaller gravel on top of the road. These things look like dams, but because of the large bottom rocks, the water can flow through the "bridge." It's a pretty cool thing to see. We spent a lot of time driving and exploring these logging roads. On one particular day, we went down a new road that led to an actual state park at the bottom of Misery Bay on Lake Superior. It's a park maintained by the state on paper mill property, there are several very rusitc camp sites at that park. We spent some time at the park and messing around on the beach. About noon we headed back down a different road, you see alot of small shacks that usually have smoke coming out of the chimneys, they are apparently used by the loggers. We eventually ended up way out in the wilderness with no signs of logging or logging trucks, it's usually like driving in a tunnel because the trees come together over the road. After a long while, we came into a clear area, and around a bend there was we came upon what we thought was a small town. The road basically went right down "main street," and as we drove through the place, it became apparent there were no people to be seen. We came to a building that was a kind of store, so we stopped there. The "store" was completly empty, looking in the dusty windows you could see it had been empty for a long time. We walked around "main street" checking out the houses, a lot of them were in pretty good repair but they were completley deserted, dust on all the floors had been undisturbed for many years and ther were no signs of foot traffic anywhere. We eventually got back in the trucks and moved on we were all pretty intrigued by the town, we didn't go in any of the houses because it just looked like the owners might actually come back. The "main street" went up a pretty big hill, at the top of the hill was a large building that was obviously some kind of industrial use building covered in that old galvanized corrugated metal sheeting. We stopped at the building and found an opening in the siding. The inside of the building was wide open, and it was very tall, like 30-40 feet tall, with a lot of supporting steelwork; everything was very rusty and obviously hadn't been touched in many years. There were large windows with no glass, just open to the outside high up in the walls that allowed the sun to light it up pretty well inside. At the center of the place, there was a large hole in the floor, like 15-20 feet square. We peered down into the opening, and it was a deep dark hole; somebody dropped a stone down the hole, and it was a long time before you could hear a faint splash of water so we dropped a stone and we had a couple of those old Casio watches with a stopwatch function so we dropped a rock and timed it to the splash, it took almost exactly ten seconds. there were no guard rails or safety measures of any kind, it was really scary thinking about falling into that deep black hole. There was some old equipment left that looked to be like turn of the century type stuff, we assumed it was a closed copper mine. The whole time we were exploring we had two 35mm film cameras taking a lot of pictures, this was 30 years before cell phones and 35-40 before smart phones. After exploring the place for a while, we decided it was time to get going because we had only a few hours before dark. After miles of running down those unmarked roads, we eventually made it back to the cabins, and we all went out to our hunting spots. After it got dark, we all headed to the local bar where we usually went to get something to eat. One of the guys asked the lady bartender if she knew anything about that shut-down mine and abandoned the town; she got kind of a funny look on her face and went to the kitchen pass-through window and said, "hey Dave, these guys went and visited Peterson, we all looked at each other like WTF is she talking about, the kitchen door opened up and the a the cook apparently called Dave came out dressed in typical bar cook clothes. Dave came over and said what did you see in Peterson we said first of all, we never saw a sign with a name on it, but it was just an abandoned town with pretty decent-looking buildings and a closed-down copper mine up on the hill. Dave said yep that's Peterson some people see the signs going into town and some don't, the thing is there never was a Peterson it never existed. Whh......What the fuck are you talking about? We were there, looked into the buildings, dropped rocks down the empty mine shaft, and took many pictures. Dave said yep, you and many other people, but if you try to return, you won't find it. What? We know the road we took. We can get back there, he said go ahead and try. You won't find it. Dave asked did you, by any chance, drop a rock in the hole and time it to the bottom? Yes, actually, we did it took almost exactly ten seconds, Dave said yep, I did, too, and I looked it up. A falling rock or anything falls about four hundred feet in ten seconds; he said Peterson is a real ghost town the whole place is a real ghost town; he said I was there and saw the same things years ago, but I've tried many times to go back and I've never been able to find it, me and a lot of other people who live in this area and know it like the backs of our hands have seen it once and once only. Dave said to go to Houghton Hancock and get your film developed, and let's see the pictures. The next day, we decided to take off from hunting and go up to town and get the film developed. Houghton Hancock is home to Michigan Tech so it's a college town with all the amenities it had a quick film developer place so we dropped the film off and went to see the sights, it's a really picturesque place. About an hour north east of HH is Copper harbor at the very top of Michigan were it ends into Lake Superior, it to is a really cool place. When we got back to HH, we were dying to see the pictures, so we went and got the film and tore open the envelopes. There were lots of pictures, beautiful pictures, but not a single picture of "Peterson"..........Now just a goddamned minute, this is not fucking possible a couple of the guys went back to the film place and asked where are the other pictures that were on those rolls? There were no other pictures. You have all the negatives. We don't keep other people's pictures. We see thousands every month. There's a park in town, and we stopped there, and all sat at a table, just kind of in shock, not saying much for quite a while. In 1982, I was 23 years old. At 23, you think you know it all when you are hit square in the face by something like that; it shakes you to the core; everything you think you know is now suspect because you were in that abandoned town; it was just a cool old abandoned town, you saw it with your own eyes in the wide open sunny broad daylight, not on some dark foggy creepy night and nothing creepy happened, we took pictures that don't exist. That changed my life from that point forward. After that, we went back to see Dave and gave him the stack of pictures of the woods, the Big Mac bridge, Misery Bay, the park on the bay, logging trucks, the rock bridges, some of the shacks, one of which was just about two miles from "Peterson." Dave just kind of chuckled and said yep, that's our "Peterson" alright. For the next two days we totally forgot about hunting, we split up in two trucks and drove those roads over and over and over and never re-found "Peterson." That is my high strangeness story, we found a town that never existed, that other people have also see but only once. As I look back on what we are now hearing stories about, stuff like different timelines like this fucked up one we are in now compared to the real one we branched off from on January 20, 2016. Is Peterson a place close to a spot where two different timelines come very close together? Is it possible that when all the conditions in the universe are just right, and you happen to be in the right place when all those conditions are right, you can visit Peterson? What would happen if you were in Peterson and the universal conditions changed? I wonder if we will ever find out. If you can only go there once, how will it be studied? The mind-warping question is, who keeps track of who has been to Peterson only once and who hasn't?

Ground Issue?
I was in the process of confirming my 2000 F450 Diesel had a bad brake switch. Discovered Something odd, with the switch disconnected, using my power probe. Pin 2 fluctuates in ground / open, with key off. Any thoughts? There is a lot on this circuit that could be problematic, hoping to pick up on some experience here.

Christening the New R1T on the Black Rock Playa (NV), with some Thoughts on Off-Roading, Adventuring, and Camping
Hello Everyone! We took our new R1T out to the Black Rock Playa (Burning Man location) for Memorial day, and I thought I'd share some thoughts on it's performance over the course of 3 days in a particularly remote location. It'll be a doozy of a writeup, but I'll try to break it down for anyone else that is interested in specifics and is wary of taking a ~$90,000 vehicle off the pavement. For comparison, we've got a Leased 2024 R1T Quad with 21's and the large pack, with just under 1000 miles at the beginning of the trip.
(TL,DR: 90 miles out to the Playa, Napier Bed Tent review, 100 mile excursion, blown tire on a gravel road with repair, solar top-off from RV, then conserve mode 90 miles back)

Getting out there:
We started the weekend on Saturday morning and topped off to 100% (316 miles, All Purpose) at the closest Charger to the Black Rock Desert, which was 90 miles away at the Electrify America in Fernley, NV. After a mostly uneventful drive to the campsite, we posted up and made camp with some family that had brought an RV all decked out with Solar (More on this later...) and numerous other tents/vans. In All Purpose and mostly driving like a grandma, efficiency was about 2.2 M/kWh and we arrived with about 220 miles remaining.
Camping in the Rivian:
We purchased a Napier Backroadz Truck Bed Tent for a previous vehicle last year, and I was eager to see how the smaller version of the tent would fit in the R1T. After searching a few other posts, and measuring everything up. the smallest size of the tent (Compact-Short Bed) fits like a champ. It does take a little bit of finagling, and at the advice of another Redditor, some carabiners to connect some of the straps inside the gear tunnel. But it fit just fine, and with the tailgate down, gave us more than enough length for the tent and to sleep. As it turns out, the R1T bed is exactly the right size to fit a Full or Double size mattress. We decided to go with a 6 inch tri-fold memory foam mattress for comfort instead of an air mattress, but either will fit. The folded mattress takes up exactly half the bed during travel, leaving plenty of room for chairs, coolers, etc. and was fantastic for comfort. It was a little tight in the bed with myself (6'4", 300) my Wife (5'8", 130) and the 90lb chocolate lab, but any combination of the two of us would have been perfectly fine. And even all three was some of the most comfortable car camping I've done.
As it pertains to Camp Mode and Power usage, it took a while for my big wrinkly brain to figure out that Camp Courtesy was the setting that stopped Proximity Lock/Unlock. So for the first 6 or so hours, it would regularly unlock and light up the whole Playa until I finally read the manual and found the Camp Courtesy mode section. After that, it worked like a champ, stayed perfectly level, and lost very little to Vampire Drain. Even with the 6 hour SNAFU, it only lost about 4 miles between Noon Saturday and about 10 A.M. Sunday.

Off-Road Excursion:
We ended up leaving on Sunday morning to visit Double Hot Springs and Clapper Canyon, about 100 miles round trip back to the campsite. In all my calculating and planning, I wanted to be back at the campsite with about 110 miles remaining to get to the charger in Fernley. I wasn't sure about the efficiency while driving off the pavement and at varying speeds, so I had planned to bail out early if it looked like we weren't going to make it back with at least 110 miles.
Our convoy of 2 Jeeps, a lifted Subaru Baja, and the R1T went bombing across the Playa at about 80 MPH for the first 30 miles to make it to the hot springs. For those that have never been to the Black Rock, it's an expanse of about 1000 square miles of Alkali Desert. Extremely flat, insanely dusty, and not unlike every desolate planet you've ever seen in a science fiction movie. The baked top "Crust" usually cracks under the weight of vehicles and leaves tire tracks all the way across the desert, but the Rivian didn't seem to sink noticeably further than any of the other vehicles. It did suck down some extra juice though, at about 1.8 M/kWh in All Purpose, we arrived on the other side of the playa with about 160 miles. Which means we burnt through about 50 miles of range traveling only 30 miles. But we carried on!
As an aside here, the amount of dust on the Playa is astounding, and the Rivian did an excellent job of keeping as much out as it could. The "Waterproof" compartments (Frunk, Tunnel, Under bed, and Cab) all did a perfect job at keeping the dust out. We kept the newest generation power Tonneau closed with some hope that maybe it would keep some out of the bed, and that was a mistake. The bed was coated with about 1/2 inch of dust, and I later learned the Tonneau was not going to open with all the crap in the slats (more on that later). But for anyone looking at going somewhere super dusty, keep the Tonneau open and put all the stuff you don't want coated in crud in the waterproof compartments.
The next 40ish miles were going to be two-tracker dirt roads. Nothing super difficult, but no faster than about 30 MPH, and most of it less than 20. The Rivian did great! We used All Terrain, and switched a few times between highest and high ride height. Like I said, not Imogene or Rubicon level difficulty, but there were a few places that required some care to not scrape a bumper or ding a door. The approach and departure angles allowed us to traverse a few washes that I would have had to get creative with in a longer truck. The front facing cameras were fantastic to see what was coming without having to guess, although, I don't think I'd do any legitimate Rock Crawling without a spotter just using the cameras. They're decent quality to see where a dip or rock is, but not nearly good enough for me to trust completely on anything gnarly.
We trucked our way along and got some very funny looks from a few other passers-by, keeping up with the two Jeeps just fine. It was as we were beginning to turn the corner on the loop back around to the campsite that things started getting a little worrisome. The road we had intended to take had been completely wiped out by some heavy rain last year, and required a nigh on 20 mile detour to go around. At this point, the range anxiety was not great, and I was coming up with contingencies on how to get home. During this stretch of the excursion, we got about 1.4 M/kWh, which was worse than I had hoped, but about what I expected. The detour led us to a very nicely maintained gravel road, so I was confident that we would be able to get better efficiency than we had been getting, and I ended up putting it into conserve and cruising along at about 40MPH. It was about 30 miles back to camp and 90 back to the charger after that, and the range with Conserve mode showed about 130 miles, which was not exactly ideal, but we could probably squeak back to the charger if nothing changed.
https://preview.redd.it/1ceua0zun93d1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa68e7d911c9a2fb6e15465bf37f43abdfbfa476
We were in the back of the convoy as we moved along down the gravel road, when a notification popped up on the screen. "Check Tire Pressure", and sure enough, the rear drivers side tire was down at 41PSI and dropping rapidly. We rolled to a stop and hopped out to see what the damage was.
Tire Repair:
Lo, and behold, there was a tear of about 1/4 inch in the crown of the left rear tire. and I could hear and feel the air escaping. Unfortunately, I didn't have a spare tire, but our delivery guy had mentioned that the compressor bag in the gear tunnel door had a repair kit. So I broke out the bag, and followed the instructions on the TireJect kit. It involved removing the valve stem core with the included tool, squeezing in about 10 Oz of the rubbeKevlar mix, then inflating the tire and rolling forward a few feet to coat the inside of the tire. I was wholly unconvinced of this working, because I've had very little luck with similar products in the past, and the hole was fairly significant. But, without much of a choice, and in about 10 minutes, it worked exactly as advertised. We used the on-board compressor to fill up to 48PSI, rolled forward about 20 feet, then topped off the tire again, and it worked like a charm. I cannot express how easy, and how well this product worked. It really saved our bacon, because getting a tow truck out there would have been a nightmare, and leaving to get a new tire wouldn't have been much better. Save for having a spare tire, I couldn't ask for a better solution for when you're 100+ miles from civilization. Props to Rivian for finding this product and including a legitimate lifeline in lieu of a spare. It didn't lose a single PSI during the ensuing dirt road drive nor the 150 mile pavement drive all the way home.
Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch:
We made it back to the campsite with exactly 82 miles. That was in Conserve, driving as gently as possible both for the tire integrity and for range consumption. Unfortunately, the closest charger was exactly 90 miles away. Even in Conserve, we very probably wouldn't make it. Luckily, as part of their retirement plans, my parents are working on their Off-Grid RV and Utility Trailer, complete with a solar array and 11kWh battery. They offered to let us plug into their fully charged solar battery (albeit 110V, 20 Amp) and stay out another unplanned night. From about 6 P.M. to about 10 A.M., the battery (and solar in the morning) charged us up to 110 miles at an average of 1.1 kW. If they had a second inverter hooked up, we would have been able to use the 240 travel charger and drain that battery in about 1.5 hours. But, as it was, we spent another evening out on the Playa and trickle charged the car.
https://preview.redd.it/455nmcxxn93d1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ca4de257c535cc1c36588029c605807f708d229
The Drive Home:
We left it in Conserve for the 90 mile return trip Monday morning. I had intended to open the Tonneau to let some of the dust blow out of the bed. I blew out the individual slat joints and the track on either side of the bed with a separate compressor , but when I pushed the button to retract the cover, it moved about 6 inches and stopped. Knowing the reputation the old Tonneaus had, I quickly abandoned that idea and waited till we got somewhere I could brush out the excess and clean the tracks more thoroughly.
We rolled into the Electrify America charger in Fernley with 11 miles and 2%, averaging 2.6 M/kWh for the drive. The tire held up beautifully, and we quickly charged up to 80% for the remaining drive home to Reno.
We stopped off at a car wash and spent a great deal of time spraying down the remaining dust, dirt, grime, and bug guts off. After a thorough spraying of the Tonneau slats and rails, it retracted just fine! No issues, no grinding, and cleaned up great. Yet another testament to Rivian's engineers knowing in the re-design when to quit forcing the moving parts.
The Conclusion:
It was a fantastic trip out! We got to explore a great deal of the operating envelope for the R1T. It was a super comfortable drive, both on and off road, and handled most of the trip like a champ! The vehicle itself worked exactly as advertised. The Camp Speaker was fantastic, Camp Mode and Leveling made for a great place to sleep, and the bed tent was a much more affordable way to camp rather than a $2000 dollar Roof Top Tent.
The downfalls were really more issues with the current (Ha!) charging infrastructure, and us pushing the limits of range without making a whole lot of concessions in comfort. We kept the windows down when it was comfortable to do so, but ran the AC for a good chunk of the trip, and could have turned back from the excursion early. The truck did as good as I could have expected, but a Rivian Adventure Network Charger in Gerlach, NV (the closest settlement) would have alleviated almost all of our issues, save the blown tire. Unfortunately, that seems to just be a byproduct of heavy truck+high tire pressure. I'm not convinced the 20" Off-Road tires would have done any better, but maybe a more aggressive tread would have stopped whatever rock punched the hole. In any case, the TireJect kit in conjunction with the onboard compressor worked beautifully and got us all the way back to the RV and then on to the charger and home.
I'm excited to keep adventuring in our truck! I would be ok to head back out to the Black Rock, but keep the excursions out there to a much shorter route. We were lucky to have a 11kWh top-up, but without that, we would very likely have been screwed. For anyone wanting to know how Rivians do off-road, they're fantastic! But keep in mind that the range calculations are estimates, and your efficiency will probably be lower than on the pavement, so build bigger buffers for your range calculations, especially if you're exploring the more remote parts of the world. 2024.05.29 02:07 Fiorella999 S1 Ep8 Rewatch and Discussion

This episode is where some of the best acting is but also where some of the worst writing is. Also we gets the version of the Greens we will be sticking with for the remainder of the show for the first time. Let me delve into some points that will have a lot of intersection with my criticisms from last episode
-The episode starts with Corlys in a coma after offscreen fighting in the Stepstones. Vaemond and Rhaenys discuss the succession of Driftmark if things go for the worst. Like I said previously Vaemond’s actor is absolutely fantastic (if anybody knows of any other movies, shows or plays where his actor or Corlys appear in please let me know). While on my original watch I obviously agreed Luke has no basis to inherit Driftmark I opposed Vaemond trying to get it either, just because by succession rules normally for lords, it would go to a daughter and her descendants before uncle and therefore should go to Baela, though some people in this sub have brought up the argument that maybe as a Valyrian house they have slighty different succession. I absolutely sympathize more with Vaemond on rewatch, though I still get why people might see him as the standard usurping uncle
-We go to Jace who is really trying to learn Valyrian which to his credit does show at least he takes his duty as Prince seriously even if because of bastardy should not be eligible for the throne and unlike say Joffrey from the main series who for all his many faults actually thought he was Robert’s son, Jace clearly knows what’s up, and is actively contributing to his mother’s usurpation attempt
-Rhaenyra and Daemon gets the news of Vaemond’s petition, and discuss how now with Alicent and Otto in power after Viserys increasingly failing health, and Rhaenys holding being a bit upset with them to say the least after everything that has happened, Luke’s legitimacy might be put to question and by extension Jace’s. Am I supposed to feel sympathetic and worried for you? This is all your fault! She left court to the Greens instead of staying and establishing alliances. Again you could have been made Hand and Regent while Viserys was abed and basically start establishing yourself as ruler. Also you not only have obvious bastards which is an insult and makes a joke of House Velaryon while also as Rhaenys put it perfect putting right in the center of a political storm, but you also made her believe that you killed her own son. Any other House would have probably just outright rebelled against you or at least sided with the Greens, but these are the Velaryons, the House that is so powerful it is a Great House in all but name, but yet always playing as the sidekicks to Rhaenyra despite being established as their own power in their own right in the first half of the season. If she hadn’t fake killed Laenor, she might have even convinced Corlys to take Luke as a ward, and actually get him familiar with the sea and Driftmark. I just don’t get how even TB members that like Rhaenyra personally don’t just pull their hair at every horrible decision she does.
-The Blacks arrive back at the Red Keep. The Strong boys get to watch Aemond training with Cole (I just love Luke’s nervous look upon realization). It’s clear after the whole eye incident, that Aemond saw that his own father couldn’t care less and wouldn’t defend him, and that besides his mother he would have to stand on his own and defend himself, and get stronger both physically and mentally. Also again we are shown how more Faith of the Seven imagery is shown with the Greens, with after them getting into power adding in more religious heraldry. Also I love how people point to Alicent and Otto in control as them and their “evil scheming” without taking into note they have basically been running the realm, keeping it stable and prosperity.
-Dyana. This is always a awful point to talk about. Obviously it’s there to make Aegon look bad, at the same time that Aegon would never do this in the books is debatable, as some lines hint at him accosting servants as users like me and natla among others believe, but others interpret it as merely him having a affair with said servants. Still regardless of book canon and show runner intention, it is obvious this is awful. Some people just dismiss it as awful fan fiction, but I feel if you are engaging with the show as most users due, then you have to engage with its canon to an extent for better or worse. I think you can still believe Aegon is not the best person and is incredibly flawed while still believing, he absolutely has the best claim and the realm would be better with him as king. As to Dyana’s longer implications, some people theorize maybe she will turn into the show’s version of Esselyn, despite the moon tea which maybe it’s focus is supposed to either eliminate or highlight that possibility depending on how you see it. I really hope not though.
-Rhaenyra and Daemon visit Viserys, who for all of our opinions on him, is played by amazingly by Paddy who gives it his all this episode and who also the makeup department did fantastic job. We also get introduced to Aegon III and Viserys II. It does make me curious if they will most likely be recasted or if with the king shooting schedule in between seasons they will use them, since a important part is having the kids old enough to where Aegon leaves Viserys while on dragon back during the Gullet causing him great regret down the line, as well as later with him watching his mother being eaten.
-Rhaenyra and Rhaenys talk where in order for her to back Luke’s claim they would do a dual marriage with Jace and Baela and Luke and Rhaena. Now I have already given my opinion on how this change makes Velaryons previous unwavering support make no sense, and how honestly Corlys and Rhaenys would have already pushed for this realistically before. Something that should be noted is his Rhaenyra says “Jace and Baela son will rule”. This is just hilarious. I’m sure the writers just added it without thinking but it just shows how Rhaenyra sees herself as the exception rather than the feminist pioneer many fans make her out to be
-Rhaenyra just the night before the petitions talks to Viserys and of course talks to him about the Song of Ice and Fire. Now this is setup for one of the worst writing decisions ever, but let me just say, despite giving very little screentime with little redeeming qualities to the point Tom had to to ask give them to give his character more, these writers are so insecure about their golden protagonist they literally have to beat us over the head with this stupid prophecy that will lead nowhere in the end just to make her seem more important than she is. It’s bad enough we had 8 seasons worth of buildup that led to utter disappointment, do we really need more retroactive buildup to that end goal? The fans are literally giving you another chance after the Epitome of horrible endings in pop culture, I would think you would want to cultivate that good will and stay away from that reminder not double down on it. It’s honestly so stupid. Mind you with Jace at the wall and the leaks, it’s not going to be any better, so might as well just mentally prepare myself to roll my eyes with this.
-The petition are put into place between Vaemond and Luke. I have previously stated how originally I was against the race change for the Velaryons not out of some “aNti-wOkE” mentality (my opinion is quite the opposite, I think genres like sci-fi and fantasy are enriched by more representation) but because the Strong boys plotline as all about their physical appearance and how it doesn’t match their alleged father and of their house, and I think this change just completely removes any doubt to the point of entering comedic territory. Not only that but I think unintentionally it adds a very weird undertone where the framing is we are rooting the white guy to usurp one of the few if only prominent Black House in the story. I know that isn’t the intention and to be fair the concept of whiteness and race we have in our world doesn’t exist in Westeros, but still the undertone is there and because the framing is for the audience to root for Luke it is quite uncomfortable.
-Viserys walks in to the throne room, and again it is a spectacularly well acted scene by Paddy (how he didn’t get an Emmy I don’t know). While many in the audience will take this especially TB as Viserys standing up one last time for his daughter to defend what is right though, writing wise I analyze more as a poor man literally on the brink of death having to get up to defend her screw up daughter from the consequences of her own actions. Less charitable I know but I feel closer an interpretation to the truth.
-The Greens and the Blacks with Viserys are together for dinner at his insistence. He gives a well acted speech and we see him at his most vulnerable. It’s really nice. I I don’t mind maybe a more vulnerable scene or two between the factions especially before the storm. It’s when Alicent just stands up and says “you will make a great Queen” that I lost it… Again it was a great speech, but unless this is a D&D session, and Viserys that rolled a Nat 20, there should be no reason why Alicent just completely forgets everything that has happened so far. It’s one thing if maybe she finds it in her to forgive any person insults but after what happened to Aemond, that is absolutely ridiculous. I’m one of the main defenders of show Alicent and her more empathetic portrayal, but this is too far. Her just holding her arm and saying she just got here when she was about leave like some old college friend is just mind boggling. Maybe if they developed it over a couple of episodes with years passing in between, I could see how they might reach a more amicable standing if Viserys is still alive but literally after one speech I am supposed to believe all the buildup of the last episodes is a bygone? What a joke, though only second to the following
-Viserys moments before dying in delusion answers Rhaenyra’s question to Alicent about the whole prophecy and she misinterprets it as Aegon being chosen by Viserys. This is beyond stupid. They are basically solving a problem they just created. Why is this necessary? Alicent was already geared up to fight tooth and nail for Aegon’s claim you don’t need this misunderstanding. If you just remove the prior mistake I mentioned with Alicent now congratulating Rhaenyra on being a future Queen, then you wouldn’t need this. This misunderstanding completely undermines the complex legal dispute that this was is based on, and instead becomes a game of “he said, no wait he said”. The trailers already framing it as the Greens fighting because Viserys chose him, but that never the basis for their claim. Viserys could have chosen Butterbumps for all it matters, the eldest male claimant comes next in line. This just frames Aegon’s claim deriving from Viserys will, which obviously Rhaenyra from that standpoint the audience would know the truth. And it doesn’t even matter since next episode we see the Green Council already making preparations to crown Aegon without even knowing of this, so again it’s completely and utterly unnecessary and stupid. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a last minute change, the writers came up after waking up before coffee and just added without s single second thought. This is clearly the episode that best epitomizes how HOTD strength is it’s acting not its writing. Trust me if we didn’t have talented actors frying the best to make it work it could be far worse but there is only so much they can do with this fanfiction levels of writing.
Listen I try to be positive and respectful, these screenwriters do work hard And again I actually most like show Alicent and think it an improvement over book version, but it’s decisions like this that just GOT season 8 vibes and it literally has just started.

Weekend Actuals for May 24-27 – 'Furiosa' and 'Garfield' Lead the Worst Memorial Day in Decades

Just when you thought the box office couldn't get any worse.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was the first film in the franchise to open at #1, yet its numbers were far below the most pessimistic predictions. The Garfield Movie opened solidly, although it didn't show signs of a break-out here. Angel Studios also released Sight, which was off to a very weak start as well.

The Top 10 earned a combined $97 million ($123.7 million four-day). That's off a massive 39% drop from last year, when The Little Mermaid opened to almost $100 million. In fact, discarding 2020 and 2021 for the pandemic, it was the worst Memorial Day weekend in at least 20 years, and the first one to miss $100 million. And that's not even adjusted for inflation.

Debuting in 3,804 theaters, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga flopped with just $26.3 million ($32.3 million four-day). That's a rough 43% drop from Mad Max: Fury Road, which debuted with $45.4 million back in May 2015. And that's despite nine years of inflation, which makes it even worse. Another sad stat: adjusted for inflation, the debut is barely above Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome ($21.2 million adjusted).

The last time we had a worse #1 during Memorial Day was Casper back in 1995. Adjusted for inflation, it was the worst in over four decades.

Unfortunately, despite the pretty great reviews, the film had a lot against it.

No one will deny that Fury Road is one of the most acclaimed action films of the century, perhaps of all time. But that film, despite making $380 million worldwide, was still a money loser due to its high budget. The figures vary, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that the film lost $20-$40 million for Warner Bros. Now, despite not being a success, the acclaim allowed it to snatch 6 Oscar wins, and nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. So while WB may have expected more, they got the incentive to continue with the franchise. $380 million is still a lot of money for an R-rated film like this.

But instead of striking while the iron is hot, Warner Bros. got into a severe lawsuit with director George Miller in 2017, as the latter claimed he did not receive a disputed $7 million bonus. This caused production on Furiosa and a Fury Road sequel to stall. The lawsuit was settled in 2020, after which Miller started pre-production on this film. But that's the thing; 9 years is way too long for a follow-up and audiences eventually lose interest. The preferential gap between franchise follow-ups should be as close as possible. Had it come out in 2018 or 2019, it would've fared far better.

But that also leads to another problem; was a Furiosa prequel the film that the audiences wanted to watch after Fury Road? We cannot make assumptions, but it's tough to say the audiences didn't want to watch Mad Max on another epic adventure after the events of the film. After all, the franchise is called Mad Max. Prequels limit the potential audience of the film; this film does not feature Mad Max save for a brief cameo (and it isn't even played by Tom Hardy). So if the audience feels the prequel won't add anything, they simply won't watch it. That's a disadvantage of prequels; you know Furiosa, Immortan Joe and his men will all live. Outside Star Wars (and even that's because of inflation), prequels aren't known for improving on their previous films.

The absence of Hardy and Charlize Theron also hurt the film. It's ridiculous to expect Theron to play a younger version of the character, but the character is linked to Theron, no matter how great Furiosa ends up. Hardy and Theron are not box office draws, but they have a lot of success to their names. In contrast, Anya Taylor-Joy may be popular online, but she has starred in a lot of bombs in the past few years and does not have a single film as leading lady above $75 million. And Hemsworth, while obviously popular for Thor, has not been able to translate that popularity at the box office; he hasn't had a single box office hit since Snow White and the Huntsman in 2012. So you've got two actors that despite being "popular", aren't exactly "popular" enough to help a film.

Now, perhaps the biggest factor, is that the Mad Max franchise simply has not been huge. Yeah, Fury Road made $380 million but that showed that the franchise has a ceilling. When it debuted in 1979, Mad Max earned $100 million worldwide, albeit with an almost non-existent presence in North America. The Road Warrior made $36 million in rentals, while Beyond Thunderdome made $52 million in rentals. Good for their times, but not strong enough for a $168 million film like Furiosa.

According to Warner Bros., a colossal 93% of the audience was 18 and over, and 55% was in the 18-34 demographic. Only 2% of the audience was 13-17, and 9% was 55 and over. Despite Furiosa as the lead, only 28% of the audience was female, although that's not exactly surprising.

The film received a "B+" on CinemaScore, which is the same score as Fury Road. That's not a horrible score, but it does not indicate the general audience will discover the film in subsequent weekends. That film had great legs, but Furiosa doesn't have the same amount of acclaim. Whatever the case, a sub $100 million run is imminent. Miller was hoping to get to The Wasteland with Hardy, but those plans might die unless there's a miracle. But one thing is certain: Furiosa won't ride the highways of Valhalla and McFeast with the heroes of all time.

Sony's The Garfield Movie debuted with $24 million ($31.2 million four-day) in 4,035 theaters. That's barely above what Bill Murray's reviled live-action/animation hybrid earned back in 2004. At least, it already surpassed the lifetime of the sequel ($28 million).

Considering it cost just $60 million, this is a solid debut that puts it in profitability territory. But one can't help but feel like the film could've made even more. After all, it's the first animated title in 2 months. It even managed to open below last week's IF, and that's despite having the IP advantage on its side.

At the end of the day, Garfield is a well known but not massively popular film franchise. It didn't help that Murray's films were poorly received, so it looks like there isn't a lot of market for these films. Sony tried to market the film as a funny adventure for the whole family, but the marketing simply lacked a "hook". There's nothing fresh about this film, and it doesn't offer anything you haven't seen before. If you watched the trailer, you already saw the whole film. In fact, one of the biggest complaints heard is that the film has very little resemblance to the character. Animated films are often critic-proof, but even the reviews for Garfield were quite bad (38% on RT).

According to Sony, 53% of the audience was female and 44% are over 24 years old. They gave it a "B+" on CinemaScore, which is a very poor grade for a family film (these films end up in the A range most of the time). Even IF still got an A. It's tough to determine how much it will gross, but it's a conclusion that families are prioritizing IF and Inside Out 2 for their kids. It should pass Murray's original, but $100 million remains a question mark.

In third place, IF dropped 52% and added $16.1 million ($22.2 million four-day). Considering it was facing Garfield, that's not a bad drop. Through Monday, the film has earned $64.8 million, and there's a strong chance it will finish with over $100 million domestically.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes eased 47% and grossed $13.3 million ($17.5 million four-day). These aren't fantastic holds, but the film has held far better than its "B" on CinemaScore suggests. The gap between this and War continues expanding; it's now $7 million ahead of that film through the same point. It has made $127 million domestically, and it should earn over $160 million.

In fifth place, The Fall Guy eased just 28% and added $5.9 million ($7.8 million four-day). That takes its domestic total to a meager $72.2 million, and it looks like a sub $90 million run is becoming more likely.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 dropped 53%, earning $5.5 million ($7 million four-day). Through Monday, the film has earned $22.7 million.

In seventh place, we had another newcomer, Angel Studios' Sight, but the film bombed with just $2.7 million ($3.7 million four-day) in 2,100 theaters. Even with an "A" on CinemaScore, it's unlikely the film makes a good impression in the coming weeks.

Challengers dropped 51% and added $1.4 million ($1.8 million four-day). That takes its domestic total to $46.5 million.

Unsurprisingly, Back to Black collapsed 62% for a $1 million weekend ($1.3 million four-day). That was imminent, given that the film had no appeal beyond Amy Winehouse's fans. And even those fans are disliking the film. The film has earned just $5.3 million, and it will finish below $7 million domestically.

Rounding up the Top 10 was Neon's expansion of Pamela Adlon's Babes into 590 theaters. But the film amassed just $1 million ($1.2 million four-day). In contrast, Bottoms made $3 million in 125 more theaters. Expect it to finish below $5 million.

As a bonus: Sony re-released Spider-Man: Far From Home on Monday, but it earned just $265,000. That's even less than Homecoming's re-release ($285K).

OVERSEAS

Furiosa also led the overseas box office, yet it was also a very weak start. Originally projected to debut with $80 million, it earned just $64.8 million worldwide. For comparison, Fury Road debuted with $109 million worldwide back in 2015. The best debuts were in Korea ($6.4M), France ($2.6M), the UK ($2.5M), Mexico ($2.4M), and Australia ($2.2M). With a debut this weak, a sub $200 million is becoming a possibility.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes added $20.6 million this weekend, taking its worldwide total to near $300 million after 3 weeks. Its best markets are China ($25.3M), France ($17.3M), Mexico ($15.5M), UK ($13M) and Brazil ($7.6M).

The Garfield Movie added $14 million, and its cume is now $97.5 million. It had solid starts in the UK ($2.5M) and Middle East ($1M). It still has Indonesia, Australia, Poland, France and Japan left.

IF crossed $100 million worldwide after adding $11.3 million overseas. Its best markets are France ($6.8M), Mexico ($5.5M), UK ($5.4M), Australia ($3.4M) and Germany ($2.4M).

After struggling, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has finally crossed $200 million worldwide. A good milestone, but the film is still not a hit with that $100 million budget.

MOVIES THAT ENDED THEIR RUN THIS WEEK

None.

THIS WEEKEND

The year-to-year comparisons are about to get worse. We might have a weekend without a single film above $15 million.

Disney is returning with their first film of the year, Young Woman and the Sea. It stars Daisy Ridley as Gertrude Ederle, an American competitive swimmer who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Even with Disney's backing, don't expect much; it's only getting a limited theatrical release. By how much? We don't know, but certainly not strong enough to make $10 million this weekend.

North America is also getting Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle. The film already opened in Japan, where it has made $68 million so far. How much will it make compared to Spy x Family ($4.8 million)?

Another release is Roadside Attractions' Summer Camp, starring Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard. Don't expect much here; Roadside is not known for pulling great numbers.

ANNOUNCEMENT

No write-up next week, just the image. Real-life stuff, but it's not like we're getting an exciting weekend here. We'll return for Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

2024.05.28 23:23 brightfuture57 If you want the cheap scrap metal the cheapest place other than a scrap dealer is resold sheet metal on Facebook marketplace.

Im talking about Just individual people not businessess. I saw plenty of listings for copper you can get it for $5 a pound and scrap price is possibly $3.30 a pound. If eant to get.yoir.momeh back simply scrap it or if not that you can get the $3 a pound by reselling or Facebook marketplace I bet. A good online price for copper is $13 a pound a bad one is like $20. A really good price is $10 mostly from local metal suppliers. The best prices you can get it at are $7 or $8 a pound locally. So getting it for $5 a pound is truly amazing.
Copper is the moat reliable in mainstream shielding and ti accounts I think. Stainless steel Aluminum TIs talk about less positively than.other shielding metals Cant be grounded I guess so it can build up a charge withoitmanwauntongrtnrif of it ik guessing??? Still it's the cheapes sheet metal there is and 40 percent of.tje weight.for.tje skin depth as.copper which is the.shielding based on the conductivity.tne attenuation.
A bit of lead zinc and bronze also Regular mild ferromagnetic steel This regular steel can be used to generate stronger radiowaves if particular gang stalkers know how to use it says microwaved individual mod if targeted energy weapons so he aware dn careful.
Plastic 55 gallon water drums $10 each Steel 55 gallon water drums $10 or $15.each 15 gallon water drums these weeken in in the sun severely though All sizes of water containers
You can also get cheap wood Tools A trailer to move this stuff and other equipment And there's got to be other stuff you can get for very cheap.
Water drums are awesome because there as cheap as you can get for containers to hold water per square ft but there super thick as well 2 ft thick. Unlike other containers you can make a structure with them in there own. The plastic ones are might not be strong enough for one to support a second full one or even a half of a full one. Some are made stronger than others and they probably weather and weeken over time. Test then thoroughly before trusting then to near weight. They each hold 440lb of water. If you want to put 220lb on top of one then that's 1.5 times the weight. So test for doing this by putting 1.5 weight test Half a water drum on top of a full water drum
2.weigjt a full water drums on top of a full water drum
2.5 weight test fill one with sand or gravel on top on top of one fill of water. A full one might be just over 2.5 times be aware of that
Test two of each weight and leave them for days so are how they hold up under greeter weight than you intend to use them.
You can fill inmtue gaps by taking 6 inch 6 mil thickness poly tube bags. Cut them to be roughly 6 ft long. Use zip ties to tie off one end and use marine dealer or job plastic weld to keep it closed. Fill it with salt water. Use zip ties on the other side to close it. Drape it over the top to hang down on both sides filling in the gaps between barrels partially. This will be very heavy though. Probably better to just make two seperate 3 ft lengths made the same weigh. Put a 6 inch wide strip of plywood running along your wall of water drums and hang the poly bags with strings on either side to hang down and partially fill in the gaps between the barrels. The side with marine sealer is down the side with only a zip tie is up so there's no water pressure on it.
To make a continuous walk you can also offset them.youncoikd also have a double row which would also hold extra weight and make use of the full thickness of the barrels not just get 1 ft of thickness protection on the week parts k think. Salt water is a far better shield than standard shieldinf information suggests. This is.far better than a single layer of copper sheet metal and a lot cheaper per square ft. However a layer of copper with the barrel is better than just the barrel. What would happen if you had 5 or 10 layers of copper? We don't know how well it would work but obviously it's easy to fit that copper within that thickmess. It's isn't really possible to use more then two layers of water drums. Use a electric pump to fill $40 or a gas powered pump $150. There's a gas powered one at harbor freight for $150. Nest not to out a charge in the air with the elect iv one if you plan to have a low amount of electromagnetic energy in your local environment.ntjw can surprisingly draw power for rhwre weapons from local power sources which is why you want to turn off your houses electricity. Shut off circuit breakers. You can put OSB or plywood over the top to bridge a 3 ft wide Gap and 1 or two layers of half inch OSB should be enough to hold a heavy roof of water bags. Look up the wheelbarrow water bags on Amazon. $20. Or the giant water bladders. There three ft tall skneoth one high you can create a structure you can sit up and work in. Don't use plywood or OSB indoors only outside so it can air out. It's too toxic. Only use pure bond plywood indoors. It actually improves it to run a copper wire through the water barrels and ground them like you would with a faraday cage. Tinned copper is meant to resist corrosion and would be a natural choice for this buy normal is fine if you check it to make sure it's staying in good condition. if you put it outside than you can heat it with a self contained propane heater or a porch heater. Don't use an electric heater tons of energy to power that.

2024.05.28 23:00 keeptrudgin Our property manager overlapped our lease with new tenants and demanded us out a week before our lease ended and this greatly impacted our finances, life, and mental health. (TX, USA)

We are moving out of state, and our rental lease agreement ends 5/31/2024. On 5/16 our property manager (works for huge corp) verbally asked us if we were open to moving early (~5/18) and being reimbursed for the days not there - we said we'd try our best because we could use the money. My husband and I are both injured (he is healing from 17 stitches in knee and I am healing from 10 stitches in my dominant hand).
Turns out the property manager wrote up and signed a lease with his new tenants that was written with a start date of 5/24. He became very persistent and put high pressure and high stress on us to get out of the house, despite acknowledging he knew he made a mistake with the overlap. We wanted to be amicable and spent every hour of every day trying to get out of the house as soon as possible because he made us feel guilty that a husband and wife with their infant would have nowhere to live until we vacated the property. During this conversation he admitted he made a huge mistake, but did not give any other options other than putting a sense of urgency and the burden on us.
We paid an additional fee for having to schedule the cleaning crew with only a day notice - when we didn't even want to pay for the cleaning service to do 50% of the things they did because we wanted to do them ourselves since we would've had the time to do so if we didn't have to leave early. This cost us over $300. There were many other experiences/financial costs that we had to absorb during all of this.
On 5/25 - the property manager brought a crew of almost 10 people to repaint the touch ups his first painter did (first painter used incorrect color). While the painting crew was inside the house they not only did a messy job that ruined all of the mopping and cleaning the cleaning service we paid for did - they moved and rearranged all of our personal belongings and valuables that were still inside the house. That was already uncomfortable enough, but my husband walked into our garage to two of the painters going through our belongings that were in zippered bags and labeled boxes - things that were very clearly our personal belongings.
Instead of rectifying and addressing the situation, the property manager called it a misunderstanding and demanded all of our personal belongings be put into our trailer immediately. He then started picking up our stuff and putting it in random places throughout our 20 foot trailer. All of our organizing and efforts to make our already stressful out of state move was lost. We can't find many of our belongings because they were either moved around and misplaced by these strangers- or stolen. We have already established a list of things we are certain were stolen from us. This list is still ongoing since we have not had a place or opportunity to sort out the rest of our stuff.
We vacated the property very early 5/26 and our property manager has not discussed any reimbursements or dollar amount of our security deposit that we should expect to get back. We have spent the last month - specifically the last three weeks - with little to no sleep or appetite due to being very stressed out and physically exhausted. We both regressed in our healing process of our serious injuries and feel like this has greatly impacted our mental health as well as a long list of financial impact that we would’ve never had if we weren’t essentially kicked out of our house before our lease ended. How much of this can the property management company be held accountable for?

2024.05.28 22:47 silverinferno3 Some early thoughts on Evil Empire's "The Rogue Prince of Persia"

Decided to hop onto the Early Access train for The Rogue Prince of Persia since I really vibed with those trailers. I've only played about an hour and only got to the first boss, so these are very early impressions, but I figured I'd mention my thoughts if anyone was curious about the game. I might come back and provide some more details as I sink more teeth into it.
tl;dr: Game is fun and the parkour is sexy as hell, but the rest is a bit sparse and simplistic at the moment. Devs promise that more will be added frequently so keep an eye out if you're still on the fence. Oh, and OST's a fucking banger
Gameplay: The game has a lot of similarities to Dead Cells, which makes sense since Evil Empire was created to work on DC's post-launch content. RPoP is the first game they're fully developing from scratch, but you can tell they're working with what they know. It's a rogue-lite, where you traverse through six levels, fight a few bosses in-between, and find upgrades along the way to make yourself stronger. There are no perma-upgrades that increase stats (that I've seen so far), but you can unlock new weapons and relics to find on your runs, and even new areas to discover.
Combat: This is where it's mostly similar to Dead Cells. You have a primary melee weapon with a three-hit combo and a charge-up special, a ranged weapon, and you'll find relics that provide modifiers to your moves. In addition, there's a ground slam that destroys armor, a kick that knocks back enemies and can stun if you make them collide with each other, and a vault which hops you over the enemy and dodge their attack. Most enemies are easily dealt with by vaulting over them as they wind-up an attack and then striking them before they can turn around, but it's important to keep an eye out for ranged attackers that can sneak a hit in if you haven't moved out of the way. Overall, combat's pretty simple: not bad but nothing too special.
Parkour: This is what makes this game stand out from Dead Cells. Now, fully honest, I've never played the other Prince of Persia games, but I hear this parkour system is similar to what used to be in the 2D games, so if you have reference for that, there you go. Personally, I love the parkour. It's smooth, buttery smooth in fact. It's a ton of fun climbing around and chaining movement together as you run up the background walls, clamber up a side-wall, hop onto a beam, and jump over to your destination. And what's great is that the game offers you challenge rooms throughout the stages to test your skills. No enemies, just hazards and beams and lots of walls to run around on. Your background-wall-run only lasts about a second, but it resets as soon as you hit a side-wall, so chaining together movement gets easier when you understand your path. I'd so so far as to say that this is the real highlight of the game and what I'm most looking forward to when during my runs.
Current Content: From what I hear from those who've already completed full runs and really pushed through this game, the content is a bit sparse. Even Evil Empire themselves have admitted those criticisms are valid, but they promise weekly updates and to at least double the amount of current content by the end of things (which they currently estimate will take about a year). As is stands, the game has 6 levels, 2 bosses, 7 melee weapons, 6 ranged weapons, and 30 relics, so I think a few hours will be all it takes to get a good feel for most of the game's current content. None of the weapons or relics feel particularly game-changing so hopefully they add something that'll shake things up in terms of the combat, but right now I'm pretty happy with how fun the parkour is and hope they add plenty more of that too.
Believe it or not, this post was originally much longer, but I figure if you need a deep dive into all the game's systems and mechanics, there are gonna be Youtube reviews that would be better for that, if only because they'll have good footage of the game in action. All I can say is that it plays well, and hopefully it gets even better as they experiment with new features. Game's currently 20 USD, will likely rise at some point, but they promise to forewarn everyone before that happens. If you're interested in an action platformer with fun movement, it's a good time. If you want a game to sink your teeth into, maybe hold off for a bit and follow along with its updates from afar.

2024.05.28 19:50 solidoutlaw League of Legends celebrates it's most prolific player with a $500 skin.

To celebrate possibly the most famous pro player in all of league of legends, Faker, Riot Games is creating what is essentially an [ingame hall of fame], with the first usage of it being dedicated to him, as well as character skins in his name. Now, credit where credit is due, this is a very cool gesture, and while Riot has celebrated pro teams in the past (by creating skin lines dedicated to them), this is the first time they've gone to such lengths, even making a whole ass CG trailer to promote it (they've made trailers dedicated to teams in the past, but again, this is for JUST Faker as opposed to a group).
One of the skins (Risen Legend Leblanc) is only unlockable via the event pass (which costs roughly $20), and while the event rewards seem fairly decent, if you only wanted the skin, it's not worth $20. The other skin, for Ahri, which has far more production put into it, comes in three different sets. The first is "Risen Legend", which costs $50, and at this time of this writing, seems to be it's own skin as opposed to a single skin that can transform (they've done this for high value skins in the past but never for $50, as normally, the highest skin tier in league costs around $30) The 2nd set is "Immortalized", and features alternative forms, new VO, etc, and costs about $300. Remember, skins of that same tier only cost around $30 normally. Finally, the last set is "Immortalized", which costs over $500, and features added effects to the skin including homages to Faker himself such as his signature on the artwork and such. Now granted, this does come with the event pass and the Leblanc skin, but it's also higher than the price of a PS5 so...
And quite possibly the funniest cherry on the top about all of this? Faker doesn't even use skins when he plays usually.
(Quick edit: Forgot to link the event page)

The next holywood releases currently scheduled are Civil War and Furiosa on June 7th, IF on June 15th, Inside Out 2 on June 21st and Despicable Me 4 on July 12th
Some rumors suggest Garfield could release around Childers Day on the 1st of June although given it has not yet been announced that will probably not happen for now. Might release later in June.
On the Japanese front Doraemon 43 is next on the list with a confirmed May 31st release which was expected as its right on the verge of Children's Day on June 1st.
Haikyu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump will release on the 15th June.
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! The Movie will also release at some point.

Childrens Day(June 1st)

Childrens Day this year only has 3 relevant relesese. Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Earth Symphony continues the long term tradition of a Doraemon movie on Childrens day. There's been one every year since 2017 except 2020 during Covid.
Holywood will have Garfield which collects a solid $55k in pre-sales on its first day on sale. Not bad and better than a lot of the recent animation's at the same point.

Not all movies are included since a lot are just too small to be worth covering.

Childrens Day is more official with Children under 14 getting half a day off. It mostly sees the release of a few animated movies and this year should be no different with Doraemon releasing on the date alongside a local animation.

2024.05.28 19:18 dm7676 Outdoor grill/cooking setups - looking to upgrade

Right now I have a popup trailer but plan to upgrade that in the next year or so to a regular trailer. Regardless though, I like to cook outside now and plan to even with a trailer. The popup has a 3 burner stove that can attach to the outside so I generally keep that outside and setup my old Coleman Roadtrip grill next to it, just at the edge of the awning so I can stand under the awning to cook in the rain if I need to while the grill is partly outside of it. Anyways, this Roadtrip grill has gotten a lot of use as a grill, griddle, and I even use the burner on it sometime if I need to. It is nearing 20 years old and the burners are a little more finicky and it isn't always the easiest thing to clean so I am thinking about upgrading. Just walking around the campground, it seems like at least half of the people (RVs or even tents) have those Camp Chef setups. Is that the way to go? They seem pretty durable and versatile. I would need it to grill (steaks, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, etc.) and a griddle for pancakes, bacon, or whatever else I want to through on there. May boil a pot of water too. It does seem Costco has them often so it made me think of them. I know they are probably pretty heavy and bulky, but we never go for less than 3 nights, and usually more like 4-7 nights at a time. I am thinking ahead that even if I get a trailer with an outdoor kitchen, I would still probably need a separate grill. What are your guys thoughts on this or any other recommendation? And if you like the Camp Chef, how many burners and which accessories are a must to go with it? Or is something like a Weber Q with a griddle grate attachment another good choice? I am usually just cooking for our family of 4 so rarely need a ton of cooking space. Thanks.

2024.05.28 18:16 ForTheHomelandUSA Any Non-CDL Hotshot Non-Owner Operator Employee Occupational Type of jobs?

I’m 21 year old US Citizen that just moved to US after not being here for 20 years with a MN state Driver’s License. I was trying to apply for a paid CDL school from trucking industry mega carriers, such as, Roehl and Swift, but I don’t have 2 years worth of experience on my US Driver’s License. In Europe I got my license right when I was legally able to at 18 years old and I got it with a manual transmission endorsement, because, if I chose the automatic, then I wouldn’t be able to drive a manual car in Europe legally. My furthest and longest day’s driving have been driving from Oslo, Norway to Nynäshamn, Sweden (536km, 333miles) to use a ferry to transport my dad’s car and stuff that’s inside and or inside of a trailer that’s attached to a car and I’ve done that multiple times with a load and without a load attached to a passenger vehicle. And then the next day when the ferry shipped us to Latvia. I would drive from third largest major port city in Latvia - Ventpils to Valmiera (288km, 178 miles), where we lived. And I was always driving with no rest periods for that mileage and completed that in 2 days, I’ve done it at least 7 times. I’ve recently confirmed that my passion is driving. Since, I don’t own a home, don’t have a family, I can stay on the road for long periods of time (I’m only willing to do OTR). Also I passed my driver’s test in USA with a huge GMC Yukon, because at the time I didn’t had a car and I needed to get the Driver’s License ASAP. So I had to get a Driver’s License with a car that I was borrowing. Now I have my own car.
I’ve done my research about trucking and hot-shot industry and I know the reality that there are good and bad days and everything in between. And I’m still willing to apply myself for this kind of work. Also I’m willing to stay on the road for long periods of time, because I want to save up some capital and be a good provider for myself.
If you, guys, have any vacancies, then you can send them to me. Then feel free to do so! I really enjoy driving! That’s the only thing that I’m naturally inclined to do.
I’m willing to relocate. As I just said, I’m 21 years old and it’s critical for me to save up some capital and get the experience before going to megas trucking school when I’m able to. I’m willing to give a solid, like real solid 2 or more year run with the company that offers me the opportunity.
P. S. I even do the midwestern state thing where I just drive around, because everything else bores me. If I don’t reply immediately, then I’m gonna reply ASAP whenever I have my phone with me.
If I won’t have any opportunities in hot-shot industry, then I’ll guess that I’ll have to go to apply as a floorhand in North Dakota oil fields. Honestly I just wanna provide. Even, if that is +1k a week with a lot of hours.

2024.05.28 17:52 Em_ber_4462 Towed my (small) horse trailer!

I have the 4K tow package on my 2024 XL and was able to haul my horse to a local equestrian park! The trailer is 1900 lbs and my horse is 1000 lbs. I brought my dad for tech support but he wasn't needed because the truck did great! I typically trailer short distances (20 miles or less) a couple times a month, so I'm happy that I no longer have to rely on other people for transportation.

2024.05.28 17:33 Slims I just released Update 1 for Final Factory

Hi again BaseBuildingGames!
Update 1 for Final Factory is out now and it adds Supply Bots (similar to Logistics Bots in Factorio), a ton of QOL, better data visualization for your factory, a research queue, tech tree UI revamp, and a bunch of other stuff!
Store page (currently 20% off)
Launch Trailer
Full Update 1 Patch Notes
If you haven't checked out the game yet - it's an automation game set in space inspired by Factorio and Comsoteer. You'll design space stations and space crafts, explore an "infinite" map, and defend your base from alien bear people (unless you want to play on Pacifist mode for a relaxed experience).
I engineered it to perform well at a large scale, so you’ll be able build absolutely massive factories with great performance. The game has a lot of content already, including a 40 hour campaign and an endlessly replayable endgame - so much so that we have dozens players with thousands of hours into the game.
I'll be hanging out here to answer any questions about the game - please feel free to ask anything!
Thanks for reading! /Slims
