2024.05.16 09:50 No-Storm-8920 My ex is trying to take our kid away from me, but I can stop it all if I use his father’s coma against him.

Hi! This story will require quite a bit of context (that can be found here https://www.reddit.com/AmItheAsshole/s/2Vo9S0QKF1). Long story short, my (F26) ex Fitz (M 32) keeps finding reasons to sue me to get full custody of our son Tim (M5). He sued several times in the past, but now everything went too far.
After a previous fierce custody battle we had an iron tight co parenting agreement. It took ages to reach one as he kept trying to include clauses just to make my life miserable. Right after graduating, when Tim was around 1 yo, in the middle of our custody battle, I would take Tim to work with me a lot. I would have long hours at the beginning, trying to make a name for myself, while Fitz was trying to paint me as a negligent mother for leaving Tim with a nanny while studying, back during finals. Hence, every other day after 4:30, when most people would go home, my mom would drop Tim at my lab and he would stay and play next to me in my office until 8 when we would go home. I would offer him plenty of attention as I would mostly run time consuming simulations that would require little involvement from my side.
Knowing this, Fitz fought tooth and nail to stop me from doing this, knowing how much easier this made our life. I work in a lab that focuses on various incurable diseases research. I almost never get in touch with the biological side as I am in the modelling team, doing mostly maths and coding. My office is in a different building than the lab and Tim has only ever been in my own office, far from the biological material. However, in the end, after arguing that my workplace is dangerous, Fitz managed to get a clause that would prevent me from having Tim with me at work. In order not to have it sound personal, the clause stated that Tim was not to be taken in any place with a BR factor greater than 1, unless his safety would be at play.
Where we are from, the BR factor of an establishment measures the risk of getting an infectious disease. Any biological lab has it greater than 1, by default, even if they do not work with any viruses . During the pandemic, all hospitals got their BR increased over 1.
Now, after an emergency, Fitz sued me for breaching our agreement. He has had a private detective in me for the better part of the past two years and kept trying building a case against me for “repeatedly violating our contract “. He kept using petty situations, like Tim being alone with my dad for 2 minutes into the men’s room at the mall while my mom and I are right in front of the door, waiting for them, even though my dad is not on the pre approved list as he has epilepsy. Or me not having an epi pen at my home because I gave it to Fitz as his was about to expire and it was his turn to pick up Tim who has severe allergies, even though our agreement said to have one at all times. (Just to make it clear, I bought a new one before getting Tim back). He also tried to paint me as a danger for having had seen a psychiatrist in highschool and early college. The reason was an eating disorder, nothing that could be any danger, which Fitz was aware of.
Even though all his so said proofs and breaches of contract were silly, with the most serious one described in the linked post, the trial got very intense, with him attacking me on a personal level. While we live in a big city, it quickly became the biggest gossip in our community, being on the lips of all the moms from pre school, most of them siding with me. Unfortunately, as much as I tried and couldn’t keep it all from Tim, since he was asked lots of questions by the kids at pre-school who heard about the situation. He became very stressed and started having night terrors.
I tried to reason with Fitz for Tim’s sake with no luck. 2 days ago, Fitz’s sister, Mia, came to see me. She wanted to give me something that could end all the stress Tim was under.
Almost 3 years ago, Fitz’s dad had a heart attack and almost died, but made a miraculous recovery. While he was in a coma, Fitz and Mia took Tim to the hospital to see his grandfather for what was thought to be the last time. Fitz’s entire family agreed there was no point in telling me, since I was very empathetic about the entire situation and even suggested that Tim and I could go visit him in the hospital once I picked him up from Fitz. They refused, however, since Tim already visited him, but did not mention this to me. She gave me texts to prove everything she was saying, and showing that Fitz knowingly breached our agreement and hid this from me for years on purpose.
My lawyer says that since this event occurred before all the ones he tries to use against me, it could get the entire case dismissed immediately, since it would have voided the parenting agreement we had. He guarantees me a win nonetheless, it would just take longer if we don’t use this. My parents think I should be the bigger person and not use it, as it is cruel and I should be an example for Tim for when he will be older. They insist that I would be in the wrong, especially since I would win nonetheless. I, however, just want to end this nightmare for good, and take care of the emotional health of my son.
What should I do? Any advice on the matter will be highly appreciated!

2024.05.16 09:47 LegionOfDoom31 Pros/Cons of our upcoming schedule

I feel like the Seahawks got a really favorable schedule (besides the 2 Thursday night games). But here are my immediate thoughts on it. Let me know what y’all think though:
Pros: 1. we start the season against 2 very winnable games against the Broncos and Pats that give the players time to get comfortable and find their rhythms in the Grubb/Macdonald defense. Also both the Broncos and Pats will be starting out their rookies.
  1. We play at home against the Dolphins, Bills, Packers, and Vikings. Teams that are hard to play on the road against instead are home games for us.
  2. We get to play the 49ers in October (y’all know how they play during that month)
  3. Also get a bye week before playing the 49ers a second time
Cons: 1. play Dolphins and Lions back-to-back
  1. We have the 49ers on a short week (at least we play the Giants right before them)
  2. Week 6-11 will be a really tough stretch
  3. We play Bears and Vikings at the end of the season, giving both rookie QBs time to get into rhythm with their offense and get comfortable.
What do y’all think?
Edit: there’s definitely trap games in this schedule with the Giants and both Cardinals games

2024.05.16 09:46 PerpetualPuzzles My manager just doesn't get it

Please note that I'm aware that we are all affected differently by our unique circumstances and levels of ability. The following post is not meant to make anyone feel inadequate, we all have our barriers and some can be overcome and others can't. It doesn't make us better or worse as people.
I've got a couple of disabilities including (but not limited to) a visual impairment, dyspraxia and fatigue. There are days when getting out of bed is like climbing Everest. I hold a professional qualification and work in a field with responsibility for people.
I'm qualified to Master's level. It took work and there was awful discrimination but I did it. I've done more complex jobs than this one. I'm not useless. I'm not stupid. I have disabilities but I will support those around me. I have been in this post about 3 months & have been within the larger organisation for over 2 years. I've worked in the sector (pre & post qualification) for over a decade.
We have to use a database. It's awful. There's scrollbars within scroll bars and a prohibitive number of clicks to do anything. I have used it in the other areas of the organisation but it's different here & I've not been trained, just expected to pick it up as I go along. I can't see it properly and constantly get error messages because I've missed a starred box. I have put appointments in on the wrong day because it's hard to see the screen properly.
There were also multiple incidents where I have been talked over by colleagues when areas of groups have been my responsibility.
My manager is picking me up on this. She told me that I should know how to work the system and stop making mistakes. She said that I'm upset about being invalidated by my colleagues because of something in my past, not because their behaviour is unacceptable. On our supervision notes, she recorded me as having dyslexia, which is a different condition.
I'm worn out. I've got supervision next week and I'm dreading it. Any words of wisdom from the crowd?
TL:DR: I'm very experienced in being invalidated & it's doing my head in.

2024.05.16 09:44 phoebepa25 Guy I’m seeing made a new dating app profile - how do I confront him?

So I (F27) met a guy (M32) who lives in Cornwall (family friend) and I live about 6 hours away. I met him in September for the first time and there was an instant click between us and I stayed round his one of the last nights of my holiday and I did catch feelings. He was only a couple months out of a very long term relationship so I knew he wasn’t really ready for anything and 2 weeks after I left we stopped talking.
Come the new year he started messaging me again, sending me updates on his farm and we FaceTimed, and eventually I went back to Cornwall in April on a family holiday. The whole week I was there we spent together, and he told me he liked me but wasn’t sure where my head had been at this whole time. Anyway we said we would try and make the effort to see each other and speak more, and so far he’s come to see me a week after I left, we’ve FaceTimed or spoke on the phone probably every other night and I’m going back down to see him in 2 weeks time.
To me everything has seemed like he was on the same wavelength as me this time and wants to see if things could work as he has been good with FaceTiming and saying things like meeting my friends so etc.
this was until yesterday, he didn’t reply to me all day so I went on hinge and low and behold he’s made a new hinge profile (which he didn’t have previously). I don’t know how to feel, I messaged asking for a FaceTime and we did and he was acting normal, there was no hints of anything being different. The only thing is he obviously didn’t reply to me all day and then has made a new dating profile.
I don’t know what to do, I really like this guy and I’ve never felt this way about someone before. I’m going down in 2 weeks so how do I bring up where his head is at without coming across intense? It’s a long way and a lot of money for me to go to him so if he isn’t considering anything serious with me I don’t want to spend my time and money visiting him to develop more feelings and getting really badly hurt.
Please help me!! I’m normally an avoidant and would just walk away from this but they say when you know you know and I just feel like we have something between us that I want to explore but I need to know if he feels the same. How do I go about asking this guy when I am in Cornwall what he wants from me?
TL;DR - guy I’m dating made a new dating app profile and I need advice on how to ask him what his feelings are towards me

2024.05.16 09:42 v8wr Could a 8 month old budgie accept a 3 year old one?

I have a maybe 3-4 month old budgie(starting to molt and beginning to look ragged) who is also starting to get an iris. The store has a 8 month now old female budgie who has been in there with her 2 brothers(they are paired, she is unpaired, according to the pet shop) and I'm wondering if, over the course of a month, she would accept my current budgie, or should I just get a younger one. The shop would have to call in and ask for the younger budgies. Note, none of the pet shops here are like...proper. Eastern Poland, and there are no toys in the cage, just one perch, food, and water, which is...really sad and universal here, it seems. So with that in mind, having proper fly space, toys, and food variety, would it be wise?
We are also worried the three have been together so long that they may have bonded as a trio and we worry about the female's mental health being separated and how much of an impact it would have on her. Squeaky Toy Baby Boy Blue(Bluey, the current budgie) was alone in the shop and his cage was caked in poop, so i think the change to a better environment made him accept us quickly, but he was alone, and she isn't, and her cage is clean.
Either way, do you guys think it's wise to get her, or to just wait for the next brood of budgies to arrive(upon request)

2024.05.16 09:41 Bulky_Chocolate_2373 I've Been Under Investigation for Child Abuse but No One is Telling Me Anything

I (19 **) work as a direct support professional for children in residential care due to IDD and/or behavioral issues. I am a full-time college student while independently supporting myself by working full-time. I typically work 32-36 hours a week while taking 4 classes (16 credits) with 3 of them being STEM, so you can only imagine how extremely busy my schedule is and the amount of stress I am constantly under. I took a week off from work to ensure that I could solely focus on my finals. I returned to work the Saturday right after finals, first day of spring break, and worked a 12 hour shift at a house that I have only worked at about 4 times prior to that shift. This house has a 1:1 staff to client ratio so there is typically 3 staff to the 3 clients, except when it is the overnight shift. On the last hour of my shift, one of the clients ran away during bed time hours and none of us realized until 20 mins later. You're probably wondering how the hell we didn't notice a kid was missing. All of the clients were in bed and all 3 of the staffs were in the staff office finishing up the necessary paperwork to complete the shift. About 10-15 mins after the last kid was put to bed, we heard the slightest chirp from one of the alarms. It was completely silent but we still barely heard the alarm. There is supposed to be alarms on every door and window leading outside, but this house in particular had an alarm on one of the bathrooms. We assumed that it was bathroom door slightly swinging open, but Staff 1 (client is the one that ran away) walked out of the office and I assumed that they went to check out the rest of the house. My client's room is right across the office door with their door wide open due to personal preference. The office door was never fully shut and I was sitting by the door to ensure that I could keep visual/audial supervision for my own client practically at all times. Staff 2 (client is in the other side of the house) was at the desk working on their paperwork and peeked out the window that shows the front lawn. They didn't see anything or say anything, and resumed their paperwork. About 20 mins later, Staff 2 goes out to warm up his car since it was almost shift change and the overnight staff was supposed to be coming soon. Overnight staff pulls up as Staff 2 was out there and the two had a conversation before Staff 2 drove off without being relived from duties. Overnight staff walks into the office and says "Y'all didn't notice you were missing a kid?" Staff 1 and I are obviously confused and thought that they were joking but they tell us how the kid got out and that Staff 2 left to drive around in search of the kid. Staff 1 walks around the neighborhood while I stay in the house because atleast one person needed to be in the house and the overnight staff was still clocking in and doing shift change duties. The kid is found at a park down the street and brought back to the house within 15-20 mins. All three of us were relieved from our shift and informed that we would be suspended pending investigation. This is because the company policy is to maintain supervision with 15 minute checks, at minimum, even if the clients are in their room. In other words, we realized that the kid was missing 5 mins late. HR contacted me 4 days later and said that they filed a report of child abuse and that the investigator will be reaching out. I don't hear anything from anyone for the next week and a half. I then reached out to my manager and informed that I haven't been contacted yet and they responded that they will reach out to HR. I get contacted by the investigator 3 days later and find out that they weren't able to reach out because they had spelled my name wrong on the email. I was under the assumption that cooperating was in my best interest if I wanted to return to work as soon as possible and so I told the investigator my perspective of the events and was very detailed and included timestamps. This is something that I have picked up while working there to provide the most accurate information relating to tracking client's behavior. At the end of the interview, the investigator stated that they didn't really find incriminating evidence but that was still up for debate until the investigation has been concluded. The investigator mentioned that it may be possible for me to be brought into court as a witness if it reaches that stage. I don't hear anything else after this for another 2 weeks before I reached out to HR and left the investigator a voicemail. HR informs me that I am still employed but that they didn't have any other information. Another week or so goes by and I still haven't heard from the investigator so I sent them a text message. I got a reply the following morning stating that there was no new information at the time. At this point, I have been suspended for 8 weeks and applied to a former minimum wage job to have a source of income. A few hours ago, I got a text from a coworker checking in on me and I find out that Staff 1 got fired immediately and that Staff 2 returned to work after 1 week. I am now trying to look for a legal aid or a lawyer for low-income people but I am not really sure how to go about this situation. I am looking for advice because I have no family and no connections to guide me through this foreign situation. I maintained supervision on my own client the whole time and I assumed that my fellow coworkers did their duties in ensuring their clients' safety. I do not think that I am implicated in this situation at all.
What should I do?
** Side note: Specific details have been simplified due to the sensitivity of this situation and any identifying characteristics has been anonymized and may cause confusion. I apologize for that.

2024.05.16 09:40 OldSchool_PT Newly Diagnosed

Hi everyone,
As the title states, I (25M) was diagnosed this month after a counselor finally picked up on the trends of my rather extreme mood fluctuations around finals (about to take comprehensive exams for a clinical doctorate) and asked if I'd ever been assessed for bipolar before. There are definitely undiagnosed mental health issues in my family but that is unlikely to change for the older generations due to distrust of the medical system. As for me, I've only really told my girlfriend and a few other close friends just to get a feel for how this changes things for me whether big or small. My doctor recommends I start medication along with counseling but is not rushing me as she understands its a rsther weighted decision. Some questions I have are:
  1. Does it get better after diagnosis learning how to cope using healthy methods? I ask because for years it frightens me how good a rigid schedule makes me feel but then any deviation can ruin my mood.
  2. Should I consider starting medications now or after my comprehensive exams in a month? Just worried about attention changes or what not, am I being ridiculous?

Other Products

Competitions

These are essentially blockchain-based lotteries with prize pools funded by ticket purchases. However, the results are determined transparently by smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain rather than a traditional lottery draw.
Each competition has a set number of tickets available for purchase at different price tiers. For example, you might be able to get 50 entries for 0.012 ETH or go bigger with 2,000 entries for 0.36 ETH.
The smart contracts then randomly select the winning tickets/wallets in a fully auditable and verifiable manner thanks to the transparency of the blockchain ledger.

Current competitions offer prize pools ranging from a couple of ETH up to jackpots worth thousands of dollars. And best of all, MetaWin provides every player with one free ticket just for joining the Telegram community!
By harnessing blockchain technology, MetaWin competitions guarantee true randomness and fairness that is open for verification by anyone. It adds an exciting crypto twist to lottery-style games.

NFT Prizes

In addition to ETH prizes, some MetaWin competitions let you win valuable NFT collectibles from popular collections like Beanz and Killabears that trade on marketplaces like OpenSea.
MetaWin NFTs
There’s even the ability to gain entries into these special NFT competitions by holding certain requisite NFTs from the collection. It’s an innovative way to engage existing NFT fans and collectors.
With NFTs being all the rage, scoring rare and valuable pieces through MetaWin’s smart competitions adds an element of gamification that blends perfectly with crypto gambling.

Welcome Bonuses

While most online casinos offer a standard deposit match bonus, MetaWin takes a different approach that’s tailored to its innovative blockchain competitions. Here’s how it works:
As soon as you connect your crypto wallet to MetaWin, you’ll automatically receive 1 free ticket entry to the current big prize competition running at the time.
For example, the most recent competition had a prize pool of 5 ETH (over $9,000 at current prices!). Just by signing up, you get a free lottery ticket for a chance to win that huge prize.
But MetaWin doesn’t stop there. You can then purchase additional entries at discounted rates to increase your odds significantly:
  • 50 additional entries for 0.012 ETH
  • 165 additional entries for 0.036 ETH
  • 780 additional entries for 0.156 ETH
  • 2,000 additional entries for 0.36 ETH
As you can see, the more entries you purchase, the bigger the discount per entry. So maximizing your investment can pay off massively if you hit that smart contract jackpot.
With each new competition cycle, the prize pools reset with new opportunities to win big payouts or rare NFTs just for joining.

Design & Usability

MetaWin has a clean and modern website design that makes it easy to navigate the platform’s different sections like slots, table games, live casino, and competitions. The minimalist user interface puts the focus squarely on the games and features, creating an uncluttered experience.
That said, the website can feel a bit bare-bones at times due to its stripped-back, decentralized nature. There aren’t a ton of flashy graphics or extraneous visual elements, which some users may see as a pro or con depending on their preferences.

The use of WebGL and live animations does give the game lobbies a more dynamic feel, while still maintaining performance nicely across devices. You’ll see things like the roulette wheel spinning in the background as you browse game options.
Usability is well thought out, with handy filter and sorting options that let you quickly find the type of game you’re looking for, whether that’s Megaways slots, specific table games like baccarat, or titles from certain providers. The favorites system is also convenient for keeping your preferred games organized.
For a Web3 crypto platform, MetaWin has achieved a great balance between an easy-to-use interface and giving users all the benefits of blockchain like transparency and verifiability.

Members Area

MetaWin takes a unique approach to its “members area” by leveraging blockchain technology and crypto wallets. Rather than a traditional account system, your Ethereum wallet essentially becomes your MetaWin account when you connect it to the platform.
Once your wallet like MetaMask is securely linked, you’ll have access to MetaWin’s full suite of games, competitions, and features. Your wallet address serves as your identifier, with all transactions, winnings, tickets, and NFT prizes directly deposited to your wallet’s balance.
The members area experience is quite stripped back compared to conventional online casinos. There are no bloated account sections or pages full of personal details and payment info. Everything is kept anonymous through your encrypted wallet connection.

However, you still get a handy dashboard view that lets you track your gameplay activity, competition entries, current wallet balance, and any NFTs you may have won. This members overview area provides all the essential data you need about your MetaWin gaming in a clean, easy-to-digest interface.
You can also quickly jump to the game lobbies, hop into competitions, purchase additional entries, or withdraw winnings straight from this main account area with just a couple clicks. It’s a lean experience free of clutter, putting the focus on gaming and prizes.

Mobile Offering

Rather than having dedicated iOS or Android apps, MetaWin has been optimized to work seamlessly on mobile web browsers across all devices and operating systems.
Simply navigate to the MetaWin website from your smartphone or tablet’s web browser and you’ll be automatically loaded into the mobile-friendly version of the platform.
The entire site has been designed responsively to provide an ideal user experience no matter the screen size or aspect ratio. All the games, features, and account areas translate perfectly to mobile layouts.
You’ll be able to easily browse game lobbies, with smart filtering and sorting options that make finding your preferred slots, tables, or live dealer games a breeze on mobile. Game launches are lightning fast with no bulky plugins required.

Connecting your crypto wallet like MetaMask is just as straightforward on mobile as desktop. Most mobile wallets can simply scan the provided QR code for effortless linking to MetaWin.
From there, you can make instant deposits, purchase competition entries, gamble, and cash out winnings all within your mobile browser. No downloads or installs needed – just MetaWin’s sleek mobile web interface.
The clean, stripped-back design philosophy helps deliver an incredibly smooth and lightweight user experience optimized for mobile data and connectivity.

Ease of Use

One of MetaWin’s biggest strengths is its sheer simplicity and ease of use. The entire platform has been designed around providing an effortless web3 gambling experience that leverages the advantages of blockchain technology.
Getting started takes just seconds. There’s no lengthy signup process or account registrations. All you need to do is connect your existing Ethereum wallet like MetaMask to the MetaWin website with a couple clicks. Your wallet acts as your secure, anonymous ID.
From there, the user experience is extremely intuitive. The clean website layout makes it easy to find and filter through the various game lobbies for slots, tables, live casino, and more. Descriptions and instructions are clear and straightforward.
Actually placing wagers is as simple as can be, with no convoluted payment flows. Since you’re betting with the ETH already loaded in your connected wallet, you can start playing games instantly. Winnings are automatically credited back to your wallet’s balance.
Purchasing entries for the innovative blockchain competitions works in the same seamless fashion. You can buy tickets directly from your wallet balance with just a few clicks.
Withdrawing is also hassle-free with no lengthy cashout periods. You can instantly transfer your ETH winnings from MetaWin directly back into your personal crypto wallet whenever desired.

Customer Support

Despite its streamlined, decentralized approach, MetaWin does not sacrifice quality customer service. Players have multiple channels to get timely assistance whenever needed.

Email Support

For general inquiries or more complex issues, you can email the MetaWin support team directly at [support@metawin.com](mailto:support@metawin.com). They strive to respond to all emails within 24 hours during normal operating hours.

FAQ Section

MetaWin also provides a comprehensive FAQ hub covering common questions about the site’s features, security, games, and more. This is an excellent self-service resource for quickly finding answers to basic queries on your own.
While phone support is not provided, the email, live chat, and FAQ options should sufficiently cover most customer service needs that may arise during gameplay at this web3 crypto casino.

Conclusion

MetaWin is truly blazing a new trail in the world of online crypto gambling. This pioneering platform leverages blockchain technology to deliver an anonymous, secure, and provably fair gaming experience like no other.
From just connecting your Ethereum wallet, a world of possibilities opens up. You can enjoy slots, table games, live dealer tables, jackpots and more from trusted developers like Pragmatic Play. All while maintaining complete privacy by never having to provide any personal information.
MetaWin’s real innovation shines through its unique blockchain competitions and opportunities to win big ETH prizes and coveted NFTs through transparent smart contracts. The random, cryptographically-verifiable results of these events guarantee a level playing field.
Add in benefits like instant, fee-free payouts directly to your wallet and MetaWin provides a glimpse into the future of web3 gaming. An experience built on the fundamentals of anonymity, autonomy and decentralization.
Is it a perfect platform? Perhaps not quite yet. The game library is still growing and being limited to just Ethereum may turn some users away. But MetaWin is undoubtedly at the vanguard of blockchain gambling.
For those who have been patiently waiting for a way to enjoy casino games, enter thrilling competitions, and potentially win big all while taking advantage of crypto’s inherent privacy and security benefits – MetaWin delivers an unparalleled solution.

2024.05.16 09:38 ToncBlonc Wings of Steel. Phantom Within. Chapter 19

“Either in hiding or dead eh?” Steelblade whispered. Sonora had gone into her parents room to tell her father about the attempt. He had found Meerkat curled up under her father’s wing and tail twinned with Steelblade’s. Sonora was surprised her mother could squish herself enough to fit under Steelblade’s wing. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s dead if I don’t know them.” Sonora’s father sighed. “Unfortunately, it’s our only lead.”
“We could search the continent again.” Sonora suggested. Her father looked uncertain.
“I don’t know.” He said quietly. “It’s an option but I won’t be able to explore the sea kingdom again. Coral hates me and.” Steelblade paused, looking at Meerkat under his wing with sympathy. “She needs me.”
“You need each other.” Sonora told her father. “It’s how you beat Talon before. Maybe if you 2 stay close, he’ll have a harder time getting you, giving us more time.” Steelblade looked uncertain.
“It’s not how I beat him last time.” He said with a sad look at Meerkat’s scar.
“Yes it is.” Sonora said, trying to convince her father. “You may both not have been fighting, but her injury is what gave you the determination to beat him.” Her father still looked skeptical.
“I just.” He started. “Don’t want her to get hurt because of him again.” Sonora could hear the pain in her father’s voice. Not only did Meerkat gain a scar because of Steeltalon. But her and Steelblade lost half their eggs to the steelwing. Sonora, Aster, and Steelstorm were the remainders.
“Do you think you’ll have more?” Sonora asked cautiously. Steelblade blinked his eyes with surprise.
“Where did that come from?” Her father asked.
“To feel young again?” Sonora suggested with laughter in her tone. She could hear her father chuckle.
“Well with Boron having a lover and you and your brothers getting older.” Steelblade started, a playful look in his eyes. “Maybe some more would make me and Meerkat feel young again.” He joked. Sonora giggled.
“Maybe they could repair the damage done by Talon.” Sonora said. Steelblade’s face darkened.
“I don’t think anything can fully repair Talon’s actions.” Steelblade said grimly. Sonora walked next to her father’s bed and laid one of her talons on his.
“When you kill his spirit.” Sonora started. “The wounds will start to heal.” Steelblade scoffed.
“The scars will start to heal.” He said. “Most of mine are from Talon. The only one not is the one along my side. Nothing can reverse the damage he’s done.”
“Only if you let the damage linger.” Sonora said, trying to comfort the battle scarred steelwing. “Surely there is a way to forget.” Steelblade snapped his head to look her in the eyes.
“There isn’t a way to forget what Talon did.” He growled softly. “He killed 3 of my dragonets. Your siblings. He’s given me more scars than anyone else, scarred your mother, and sent other dragons to hit our friends’ families.” Sonora flinched at his sudden change in tone and she saw a guilty look in his eyes. “Sorry.” Her father apologized. “I guess it’s harder for me because he took away both my parents from me and attempted to kill the new family I’ve built.” Steelblade’s face was plagued with grief and pain. Sonora hopped up next to him and laid next to him. He put his other wing over her.
“The scars can still heal.” Sonora said as she leaned into her father.
“I know but.” Steelblade started. “It’s hard to forget the things he’s done in an attempt to ruin my life.”
“And he isn’t done.” Sonora said. “So stay strong to make sure he doesn’t win.” Steelblade laid his chin on top of her head.
“I will always stay my strongest to protect my family.” Her father replied. “Talon won’t win.” Sonora hugged his neck.
“Remember, we’ll all here for you dad.” Sonora reminded him. “We will all try to help any way we can.”
“I know.” Her father responded. “If I knew any way they could help, I’d ask. But this……….. is a whole new threat.”
“We’ll still find ways to help.” Sonora said. She knew how stubborn her father could be.
“And that’s why these are my best years.” Steelblade said as he coiled what neck he had left around Sonora’s. “I have dragons to call family and friends.” They laid there hugging for a few minutes. “Now get out there and visit with them.” Steelblade told her. “There are dragons in the here and now you should be spending time with. Not an old fossil like me.” He joked. Sonora chuckled in response before she left.
“How is he?” Cavemaker asked after she closed her parents’ door.
“He’s fine.” Sonora replied. “Mother on the other talon, isn’t as fine. She’s worried sick about him.”
“Well Meerkat didn’t have many dragons close to her.” Strider commented. “Most of her time was her and Roadrunner before she came here. She doesn’t want to lose the dragon closest to her.” Strider finished off and twinned his talon with Cypress’s.
“I know I’d be worried if Cavemaker was being haunted by Nightblade.” Canary said as she leaned into the nightwing.
“He wouldn’t be able to.” Cavemaker scoffed. “He was only set on taking over the continent. He had no desire to ruin my life.”
“You could say he did.” Boron commented. “He did injure Canary.”
“Yeah. That’s why he wouldn’t be able to do anything to me.” Cavemaker said. “Different motives and the amount of resistance he’d feel.”
“Give Blade some credit.” Cypress cut in. “He’s trying his best to hold back Talon, but Talon has had weeks to gain power and he wants to actively ruin Blade’s life.” Cavemaker nodded but still seemed unconvinced.
“When did you get so serious?” Strider joked as he elbowed the nightwing. “That’s my job.” Cavemaker sighed with defeat.
“Because I feel the defensiveness and pressure of becoming a father growing more and more as the days go on.” Cavemaker replied. Canary leaned into him and put her wing over him.
“You’ll be a fantastic father.” Canary said with a comforting voice. “You are a fantastic fiancé and a fantastic friend. Don’t let pressure get to you.” Cavemaker nuzzled the skywing.
“And you bothered me and Strider about being fast.” Cypress joked at the nightwing, causing the rest to laugh.
“Yeah well.” Cavemaker started, playfulness breaking into his voice. “I can still bother Blade and Meerkat about it.” He said with a laugh.
“Well it’s getting late.” Jellyfish said. Sonora looked out the window and saw it was getting dark. “Should get some sleep before we go searching for answers.” Everyone nodded their agreement and split off to their rooms. Sonora laid down next to her brothers. Steelstorm was sleeping on top of Aster. Sonora chuckled and laid her head on her talons. “You still want a friend’s company?” She heard Jellyfish’s whisper.
“Please.” Sonora replied. She could hear the seawing lay next to her. This night however, Jellyfish put her tail over Sonora’s.

2024.05.16 09:37 Pulled_An_LBJ Fired after being on training plan and assured 3 weeks ago nowhere near even a PIP, much less firing

I got a new manager and he immediately put me on a training plan. My previous manager had just given me a positive annual review so this was alarming to me, so I asked if this was performance plan. I was assured that this was not a PIP, just a way to level up my skills and he mentioned a leveling guide none of my coworkers had ever seen, and later I found out its a tool used between managers and HR to discuss how to help employees grow. However, my new manager was using it like a weapon.
Regardless, I love learning and was all on-board to learn everything I needed to. I’m a frontend developer in the silicon valley and he listed some things that were easy to learn (which I did and started to add to accepted merge requests), but also he wanted me to learn how they do things on this new team he had created. He created a long checklist that frankly had tasks that sounded like a principal engineer, and I’m midlevel. Still, I was on board and gave it my all.
He gave me a project as part of my training plan that was an actual project with real deadlines and my job was to lead the entire project, to gather requirements, create a plan and timeline and tickets and frankly a lot of things that in the past were handled by project managers or my previous manager at the company and the team. Now it felt like I needed to be a project manager, team lead, and full stack engineer since I had to create middleware, API providers. I created a plan and started with getting the API calls, Oauth tokens, learning about company API IDs and API secrets, and getting the API Client and Provider set up for the first time.
Oh, I also decided to disclose to my manager and HR that I had ADHD and was seeking legally provided workplace accommodation because while my manager created an environment perfect for my ADHD, this manager seemed to do everything possible to not accommodate my ADHD. Oh, and during this training plan I am getting nonstop negative weekly feedback on my performance.
So I was both working hard to learn and filled with anxiety from the negative feedback, yet I was 90% done with the project and 2 weeks away from integration testing. I open my laptop and see that my manager took me off the project and gave it to an engineer who was supposed to be one of the people training me but he was never available and in another timezone. The reason my manager gave was that he was afraid I wouldn’t meet the deadlines. The project wasn’t due for 2 months, but milestone deadlines were the integration testing in 2 weeks and another one a month from then.
I got a horrible cold and had to take a couple days off, I get to work on Monday and my manager and HR fire me without severance and cite performance as the reason. I asked HR why she said 3 weeks ago that I was nowhere near getting fired, and that I wasn’t even close to a PIP, that this was a true training plan. She kind of spoke quickly and said something about reviewing performance and decided to end our relationship. At that point I felt like saying “Ok, can I go now?”but was super professional and said goodbye at the end.
But now I find myself ruminating about what happened. The whole thing felt so unfair and confusing. I saw how kind this group was to a poster who lost their job and it seemed to turn them around and make them feel hopeful. Can you help me move past this?

2024.05.16 09:36 RemmyE333 Yesterday was full of ups and downs...

I went over to my dad's to help mow his lawn and clean up his yard because he's no longer capable, when I came across two kittens. We had destroyed their home unintentionally while throwing away some of the trash, so I hoped their mama would come back and move them. Well, she didn't, and a dog came and tried to eat them (the front yard does not have a gate). Luckily the dog didn't because we got to them in time. Having moved them, we waited to make sure mama would come. I started thinking how they were feral and I had seen the mom who was also feral. The kittens were about 2-4 weeks old and the mom only looked like a year old herself. So I decided to try to trap her and take her in to get her and her babies adopted out.
She finally showed up late at night and we caught her, but while trying to get her into her cage she bit me, clean through some work gloves and my fingernail, several times. I had no idea their fangs could do that. Well, we got her packed up and this morning I took them to the local no-kill shelter. They let me know that when she is old enough and the kittens are weaned that they would fix her, tip her ears, and re-release her if they aren't able to find a home for her. I'm glad I did it, but my hands got mangled. I can guarantee that those kittens would have died, so at least now there won't be new kittens dying each year.
The highlight of my day was my son getting to hold a kitten for the first time in his life. He is deathly allergic to all animals with fur so much so that he requires an epi-pen, and he started allergy shots only a year ago. He is still very allergic, but the allergist encouraged me to give him antihistamines and then let him pet a cat to test what his reaction would be. He got a little itchy, but was overall fine. This is pretty incredible! We will do 3 more tests before I will feel comfortable enough to start taking him to stores again (because everyone brings their pets into stores, not just service animals, but everyone). Next test will be a full grown cat that has never been around dogs. The third test will be a puppy or dog that has never been around cats. Last test will be both at the same time. If he doesn't have serious reactions to any of these tests it means we can change the way we live. We can go to parks again, and he can go trick or treating for the first time. We will be able to ride on airplanes again, and go on hikes in the woods.
The allergist informed me that he would add even more cat and dog allergen into the shots this year so hopefully we could speed up the process. My son has been carrying around a little stuffed dog he named Oreo for the last 2 years in anticipation of the day he can have his own pet. He takes such good care of it. When it's cold outside, he even puts it under his coat to keep it warm.
I am not an optimist, but I have great hopes for this coming year!

2024.05.16 09:36 PrimeR321 Our fate, and why to have faith in something bigger.

This is how things are falling apart, and coming together nicely for those who were tortured through tyrannical systems, and did not deserve it. Have faith in god, if it steers you towards the side of good vs evil, because it truly DOES matter. That is the great culling happening soon, and it wasn't a slaughter of every bad person, it was a sterilization, and being left behind, that the bad people get. The good people get to "ascend" into something much bigger than what we have created on earth. That was our great judgement. If you are good, you will "transcend our world", If you were bad, you will not.
The sterilization will happen soon because the alignment of the planets of the 2 or ???# distant species is stretching. We are going to lose contact soon in the coming years probably, but I am not sure when. It's all about saving the right souls, and leaving the wrong ones to rot in an endless loop of time, a spiral towards the center of a giant black hole, sucking in the rest of the galaxy. We will see the development of technologies that can never be used to save us now anyways, taking place. They will tell you everything you ever dreamed of knowing about fields and gravity and time, if you are staying on earth, because it no longer matters. We couldn't even devise the level of tech required to escape the "fields" now. They really were our last chance.
It's way too late for the people doing this to us, but please everyone, have hope for your own soul if you are truly good inside. I implore you to have faith in something bigger than what humanity can create. Let the goodness shine until it's over, because it WILL go noticed, just not by ourselves. The brighter you shine as a good person, the more likely you are to get access to a life raft on this sinking ship. Have faith in a higher power, and it really isn't humanity that you need to have faith in anymore.

2024.05.16 09:36 Correct_Inside1658 Holy fuck America hates service workers

I wrote this as a comment originally in another sub, but I needed to rant more vocally and I felt like there’d be some sympathetic ears here.
I work at a gas station, and for some reason that translates into me not deserving nice things in America. I kinda had no idea how much our society fucking hates service workers till I started working here full-time back in January.
It’s honestly kind of fucked: half the people I work with have kids, and have worked here for years. I’m lucky in that I don’t have kids and am able to live with family for cheap rent, but this is very much not the norm at my place of work. We get paid on average between 17.50-19.50 an hour (in CA, where the cheapest rent you can find is a $1300/mo studio), we get to earn 4 PTO days a year (which are not guaranteed to be accepted when I request them, and no designated sick days), our hours are not guaranteed, we don’t have a retirement plan outside of the option to maybe put money into an IRA on our own initiative, and we can and will be let go even for basic mistakes at times (“right to work” my ass, fuck at-will employment). We technically have health insurance, but it’s both expensive and dogshit.
It’s crazy how little we learned from COVID too: if someone at my work gets sick, they usually have to come in. They can’t afford to miss a day, especially considering the CoL here in California. So, what happens is that one person (or their usually small children) will get sick, and then the rest of us also get sick and also have to come into work. Then we handle your food, your cash, your condoms, your cigarettes, your alcohol, and stand much less than 6 feet away from you at a register with no PPE provided.
During COVID, my co-workers (I was in college during COVID) had to come into work because they were ‘essential’. Yet, pretty much constantly we don’t get treated like we’re essential. Probably about 25ish percent of our customers treat us like fucking garbage. I’ve been screamed at before by customers for asking for ID (which is the law for selling tobacco/alcohol here), I’ve been screamed at for taking more than 30 seconds to get to a person in line, and I have had to do stuff that is not in my job description ranging from: administering first aid, playing therapist to people, car maintenance, sheltering people after severe car crashes when the highway patrol drops them off, scaring off meth-heads, and de-escalating potentially violent situations with drunk people who are pissed I can’t sell them alcohol at 3am on a Monday. Honestly, this job isn’t even that bad compared to many other places that employ service workers. If I go online and complain about any of this, I’ll have like, scores of people tell me, “well, you don’t work a real job, what do you expect?”
I’ve even had my own family tell me that my job isn’t a “real job”, and they’re not even assholes.
Personally, my response to anyone that tells me I don’t work a “real” job (and therefore don’t deserve things like a living wage or sick pay) is this: if you really think that, then try not getting gas, going to a grocery store, getting fast food, buying clothes, or any other service that requires service workers. Then tell me I don’t serve a necessary function in society, and don’t deserve benefits.
Edit: Don’t even get me started on our janitorial staff. The things those poor fuckers have to clean up in our restroom 3 times a day are fucking ludicrous. They get paid as much as I do, and have the same benefits. One of our janitors just finished her bachelor’s, and is currently getting her Master’s.
Edit 2: I have 4 associates degrees, and was one year away from finishing my double major at a T10 before I had to drop out due to medical reasons.
Edit 3: I just wanna share one of my co-worker’s experience, because it’s depressing as hell. She’s 26, and has two kids (6 and 2). She splits a small studio with her boyfriend. She works nights and watches the kids during the day, he works days and watches the kids at night. They both drive 40+ minutes to work, and need to upkeep two cars so that they can both get to their separate work spaces. She’s been so sick the last week that she’s hacking up mucus most of the day. She can’t take the day off, or she can’t make rent. She also cleans the coffee pots and other dishes, handles food, and is in close proximity to the rest of us. Naturally, everyone else in my workplace is now becoming sick (including me). The poor thing can wear a mask, but like… Jesus. This is fucking untenable. It’s shameful.

2024.05.16 09:36 nesfor 1040-ES Lines 12 and 13 - help!

Hi all - I’ve never had taxes more complicated than standard employee wages and I don’t understand how anyone figures this out without a team of professionals. I've been reading so many forms and none of them make sense.
Last year, I worked as an employee at a company. I stopped working there last year, 2023. I’m working a contractor job from March through August of 2-24 and I’m trying to figure out quarterly payments when I won’t even be working every quarter. I don’t have any previous years’ taxes from this job to refer to. I know roughly how much I will make in total, but it depends on the hours I log.
I’m trying to fill out the 2024 estimated tax worksheet on page 8 of 2024 Form 1040-ES, but I don’t know what 12b (required annual payment based on prior year’s tax) refers to or how to calculate it. Is that just how much I paid in taxes last year at my old job?
Then, line 13 is "Income tax withheld and estimated to be withheld during 2024 (including income tax withholding on pensions, annuities, certain deferred income, and Additional Medicare Tax withholding)." The instructions for this worksheet end at #12 and I have no idea how to find this information. I thought I was calculating income tax this whole time?? How do I get this number?
Thank you so much!

2024.05.16 09:34 West_Blueberry_5599 The life of a below average looking incel in SG

I'm not sure if incels are a very outlandish concept here in SG. I'm not proud of being an incel and I never thought that I would become one. However, I do believe that one day I will get past this phase.
For context, I think I have it slightly better than most incels. I'd say my face looks below average, but I'm a lot taller than the average guy in SG, slightly above 190cm, am decently well built since I've been hitting the gym for over a year, am financially stable thanks to my savings, side income and family background.
So you must be thinking: I have everything a 23 year old could want in life. I ORDed around a month ago, I'm currently taking a few months to consider my future job and am figuring out how to expand my side businesses that I've been running for awhile. I'm free, I drive a nice Porsche (Dads 3rd vehicle so it's not mine), have money to do and buy whatever I please, am genetically advantaged in height and body build. Why would I become an incel?
I don't have any friends due to my lack of self confidence, which stems from being bullied in Secondary school. I'd consider myself to be introverted. Every guy my age is going to uni, where they get to make many new friends, experience the hall/uni life, talk to other girls. If not, almost every guy has a friend group that has a girl inside. Even if they don't, one of the friend in the group would have a friend that is a girl, and through him you'd be able to have mutuals etc. I have close to zero exposure with the outside world. It's not that I don't want to go out, it's that I don't have reason to. The only times I go out are to gym, have supper alone, pump petrol. I am on 3 different dating apps, at one point 5. I'll get to that in a second.
You know sometimes you see someone attractive, you'd glace at them? Throughout my life, even up till now, I've never caught a girl giving me attention. Which leads me to the incel mindset.
Think about it. I've seen girls on social media and in public sometimes. Most of them date guys that are either super handsome with thick eyebrows, tall and huge, clear skin, good fashion sense. You do occasionally see some girls date guys that are average or even below average looking, but the harsh truth is that the girls themselves aren't very attractive. I know I'm a hypocrite.
Girls don't want guys that treat them well or give them attention. For some reason, girls only like guys that don't know that they exist or treat them like trash. If an average looking guy kept giving a girl attention and tried chasing her, do you really think she'd fall for him if there's a good looking guy that she likes but doesn't like her back? In SG, girls can choose whoever they want, I don't know why. Guys will fall for you if you're even remotely attractive and if you spend enough time with him. Chances are, and a girl uses this to her advantage, the better looking guy will fall for her if she gives him attention. So she chooses to friendzone the average looking guy and take a chance at dating the better looking guy, because she knows that there is a high chance that he'd start to fall for her.
There's this saying where 80% of girls go for the top 10% of men. I am not in that 10% because of my trash social skills with girls and average/below average face. I've been on dating apps for 3 years, and at this point I'm done with them. At first, I'd slowly swipe the girls and consider if she's really my type. But now I just spam like because the girls that I like don't like me back. I get like 1 match every 2 weeks, even being on multiple dating apps. Skill issue? Do you really think she'd swipe on me when there are better looking guys on the apps? And the fucking shittiest part is when I match with a girl that i'm interested in, I send the first message (because in sg thats how its supposed to be), and then the next morning i wake up she unmatches. In the 3 years I've been on dating apps I've gone on 0 dates. I had 2 conversations with girls that I was interested in. only for 1 to ghost me and for the other to unmatch me.
This is what I deduce from my experience with girls on dating apps and my ex. I'm financially stable, I'm tall, I'm well built. Yet I'm unable to get the attention of a girl. This is because of my face and my awkwardness/lack of ability to speak to girls because I don't have much experience. If I were good looking, the second part wouldn't matter because the girl would be the one trying to carry on the conversation. Because of this mindset, I've slowly started to resent girls because of their mindsets. Whenever I'd see a girl at my gym/in public, I start to feel a sense of hatred and sadness. I can't explain why. I don't think I'd make a bad boyfriend. All I want is to start a family and my girlfriend and I work together to build our family and our own home. But I don't have the chance, no girl would want to even give me a chance because I'm not handsome.
TLDR: Height/muscles/mannerisms don't matter, as long as your face looks good you're set.
I know this post is going to get a lot of hate. I'm not posting this so that I'd get pity. I just wanted to share my experiences. I'd love to hear your opinions.

2024.05.16 09:34 alhbundy Can't give it away.

Another Free Comic Book day has passed and another Mommy would not let her kid have a free comic.
So I thought I would tell the tales of other times when similar events occurred.
This tale begins the way all the others do. With a kid that wanting a pack of the evil Pokemon cards. As soon as the girl spotted the cards the typical mad mommy face appeared and the usual quote was quoted.
"YOU DON"T NEED THAT."
Girl said that she wanted them because they were fun.
Mommy, "You keep losing them."
So I asked the kid how she loses them. Her response was that she didn't lose them, her mother always threw them out. (I believed her)
So I asked her why she kept throwing them out to which she replied that she didn't and that her kid was a scatter brain.
I responded that I hear this all the time and that the mother does throw them out. Again I asked.
Now she retorted with the "I don't like them" reason.
Then she asked her father to buy her one, but he took one look at his wife and giggled nervously, took the pack out of her hand and tossed it on my table.
So I decided to have a little more fun. I told the mommy that today was her lucky day. It was free comic book day and the kid could take a free comic from the box on the table.
"SHE DOESN"T NEED IT."
Wow even free you won't relent. I asked the father what he thought. More nervous giggling. (Get a pair sir.) Girl thanked me for trying and mommy yelled at her for wasting her time. Mommy grabbed her by the arm so she couldn't take a book.

Another fine parent said that she wasn't going to waste her money on this shit. I informed her that her kid could take as many of the free books from the display so she didn't have to spend a dime on the kid.
Rather than thanking me, she said that was even worse.
I basically asked her WTF (without cursing) that meant.
The kid stated that she hated that he liked comics and always was looking for an excuse not to buy them for him and I took that excuse away. As he was saying this she walked away and yelled at him to move along.

The worst and funniest one I had was when the father and son were selecting a few age appropriate books. The mommy saw this and pulled the books out of the kids hand, yelled at the father, "I SAID NO" shredded them and slammed the pieces on the floor.
The father looked at her and stated that he said yes and the kid could have them.
She went wide eyed and yelled back for him not to defy her.
He walked back to my stand, apologized, and asked if he could have a few more. All the while she was screaming that he better not do it.
Of course I said yes and recommended that he hold on to them.
All the way down this aisle she tried to grab them. Then about halfway down he finally had enough and yelled "WTF is your problem??" and to knock it off. She didn't.

About 15 years ago, I had to close my account with my distributor and the last time I officially did the giveaway I counted the number of parents that did this. I usually did this for the month of May as keeping the books was taking up space.
I did two markets at that time, one in PA and the other in NY.
I had 48 parents that would not let the kids have free books. 45 were the mother, 2 of the fathers blamed the mother and the third was like the guy in the first incident.

One of the markets I used to do had a Halloween party every year. So instead of giving away candy I would give a kid a free book. Most parents did let the kid have them except for one.
When I told them the giveaway when the kid did "Trick or treat" she stated that the kid wanted candy.
Kid stated that he wanted a comic. That was better.
She told the kid. "No, you want candy"
Kid. "No, I want this."
Mother, (Well you get the picture.)
Kid. "No you want candy. Every year you steal my candy.
Mother got mad and told the kid that now he wasn't getting anything. We both knew that anyway. So he took a freebie and thanked me and the mother told me that I should be giving candy because that's what the kids really want.

2024.05.16 09:34 mecopian Need advice

So a few weeks ago I posted here how I didn’t get a response while applying directly to a company but then consultants/recruiters are able to get me an interview in a matter of 1-2 weeks.
Things have progressed and I may get an offer from a company this week. Question is my J1 has a direct line for employment verifications. Essentially it’s the equifax number.
Is this quite common in relatively larger companies?
My new J2 is rather small company but I’m sure they might check on me. Should I shut down equifax after J2’s verification? Or right away?
More importantly if I do shut down equifax do they still any basic info to the caller?
