2024.06.09 13:35 IllIllIIIllllIIIIlI New prescription at opticians but the test frame lenses were worse than my current glasses.

I got an eye test today as I noticed my eye sight seems to have worsened this past week or so - increased light distortion, especially on screens.
Based on the eye test with the lense machine that they use, the result was a higher prescription than my current glasses.
But then when it came to try the prescription on the test frame - the one where they swap in different lenses on the metal glasses frame - it was worse than my current glasses (I compared a number of times to make sure).
Has anyone else experienced this? I’m wondering if the test frame is lacking and doesn’t quite work properly for Keratoconus?

2024.06.09 10:25 Wooleyty I met the Dogman at Raven's Nest and it took my sister. [Part one]

My name is Rory Fars, and my little sister, Lily Fars, is the last family I had left.
A heavy sense of dread settled over me like a suffocating blanket as I sat in the worn leather seat of Lily's old jeep. The car, a relic of our happier days, seemed to groan under our shared sorrow. Beside me, Lily, my best friend, and confidante, absentmindedly twirled a strand of her long, dark hair, which swayed gently in rhythm with the haunting melodies from the oldies station on the radio. This car had seen us through countless joyful journeys when our family was whole. Almost three years had passed since that fateful Christmas trip in Texas when our parents were tragically killed in a horrific multi-car pileup. The memory of their loss was a constant ache, a wound that never fully healed.
My dad was from Amarillo, Texas, so my parents often took trips down there, visiting the places that held so many memories for him. During one of these trips, just before Christmas, a sudden blizzard struck while they were on the freeway. The snow fell in blinding sheets, making the world outside a disorienting white blur. As they tried to slowly pull to the side, their vision obscured by the relentless storm, they never saw the car barreling toward them at least forty miles an hour. The impact was devastating, an abrupt and brutal end to their journey and, in many ways, to our lives as we had known them.
My parents were always sticklers for safety, insisting on seatbelts every time we got in the car. So, of course, they had theirs on during that fateful trip. The initial impact wasn't what killed them, the coroner explained to me. Not even the first hit from behind, which was going at least fifty miles an hour, was fatal. I had to practically shake the information out of him—they were so resistant to tell me anything at first. By the time the third car hit, with an unknown speed, their survival was already in jeopardy. The coroner said that by the fifth car, they were likely dead. But it didn't end there. Another twenty-three vehicles slammed into the back of the pile, each collision further crushing their bodies, reducing them to a horrific, unrecognizable state. Each jarring impact pushed my parents deeper into a gruesome amalgamation of twisted metal and shattered lives.
I don't know why I felt compelled to demand those details at the time, but I deeply regret it now. I wish I had never asked. Almost every night, unless I drink myself into oblivion, I am haunted by nightmares of what they endured. I dream of driving up to save them, only to be caught in the same deadly barrage of cars, ending in a twisted metal tomb for all of us.
Lily is never in those dreams. Even in my most horrific imaginings, I can't envision her being hurt. Lily is my little sister, younger by eight years and three months. Whenever I mention our age difference, I see the judgment in people's eyes, but what can I say? Our parents never stopped loving each other. They had Lily late in life; she became our shared joy, our living reminder of the love that had bound our family together.
Lily wasn't my twin in the literal sense, but ever since she was born, it felt like we shared the inexplicable connection that twins often describe. As she grew up, our bond only deepened—we acted, sounded, and even looked remarkably alike. She became my rock, especially after our parents' tragic deaths. We leaned on each other, cried into each other's shoulders, and somehow found the strength to move forward. We eventually moved in together, finding solace in a two-bedroom apartment that became our sanctuary.
Lily seemed to handle our parents' deaths better than I did, or maybe she was just better at distracting herself with technology. Even before their passing, Lily was addicted to any kind of digital screen she could manipulate. Her ability to navigate the digital world was unmatched; she was the most intelligent person I had ever met. Her intelligence was a beacon of light in the darkness that had enveloped us, a testament to her resilience and brilliance.
After my parents' death, I embarked on a quest to find my spirituality by delving into paranormal investigations. I hoped these pursuits would bring me closer to my parents in the afterlife, spiritual realm, or whatever you want to call it. Instead, it created a chasm between me and any sense of spiritual existence. Each investigation seemed to push me further from the answers I sought, leaving me feeling more isolated and disconnected than ever.
I had hoped that by exploring these paranormal claims, I would discover a way to reach out to my parents and feel their presence again. Yet, as the years have passed, this endeavor has only deepened my loneliness and sense of loss. Despite knowing how detrimental it is to my mental health, I can't bring myself to stop. The hope that the subsequent investigation will be the one that proves the existence of an afterlife and that I'll find a way to contact my parents keeps me going. It's a desperate, unrelenting pursuit for a connection that remains heartbreakingly out of reach.
I should have accepted their death and moved on like any sane person would. Instead, I let my grief fester and dragged my sister and a stranger, Mark, through my obsessive quest for answers. My relentless pursuit of the paranormal didn't just alienate me; it consumed us all, leading to their untimely deaths. My name is Rory Fars, and I am here to confess my side of the story about the missing case of Lily Fars and Mark Lawrence.
This is the truth about how my desperate search for a connection with the afterlife led to a nightmare from which none of us could escape.
To start off, no, Lily was not a student of Mark's who fell in love with him and then got jealous of me hitting on him, leading her to kill him and herself. I know that sounds ridiculous, but given some wild theories circulating online, I need to address this one specifically since it seems to be the most popular.
First and foremost, Mark Lawrence was not, nor has he ever been, a professor at a university. Lily and I met Mark at the Local Museum in Redlin, a town nestled deep in the Appalachian Mountains. He was the curator of an exhibit showcasing the history of Raven's Nest, a forgotten mining town that neither Lily nor I had ever heard of. This is where our story begins, in a place steeped in history and mystery, far removed from the convoluted theories that now cloud the truth.
We were constantly searching for new ideas for our podcast about paranormal claims. Each of our twenty-five episodes so far had concluded with a rational explanation, so when Mark told us about the curse of Harper, I was immediately intrigued.
Mark was an older man, likely in his mid-sixties, with a full head of silver hair and a beard that stubbornly clung to its youthful color, only lightly dusted with grey. He had a presence that commanded attention, and his stories about the curse were delivered with an intensity that drew me in.
On the other hand, Lily was always more interested in the technical aspects of the paranormal. She had her own theories and was determined to debunk every claim we investigated. She wasn't easily swayed by Mark's tales about the curse of Harper, but she was willing to listen and give him a chance to prove himself. Her skeptical mind constantly checked my enthusiasm, and together, we hoped to uncover the truth behind yet another paranormal mystery.
"Hello ladies, care to hear about the mysterious town of Raven's Nest?" Mark asked with theatrical enthusiasm.
Lily and I exchanged a knowing glance, trying to stifle our amusement. Despite our attempts to remain composed, a smirk played at the corners of our lips.
"We're all ears," I replied, my tone laced with a hint of sarcasm.
He sighed, almost as if he was disappointed that we said yes. Taking a deep breath, he seemed to steel himself for the task ahead. "Well, you see," he began, his voice tinged with uncertainty, "in the early twentieth century, a man named Harper Franstein exploited many men and children in the coal mines. By the mid-1920s, he had established his own settlement in a secluded valley, which he dubbed 'The Raven's Nest.' It was never officially recognized as a town, but that's the only name we have to go off of."
I could see the beads of sweat forming on Mark's brow as he struggled to recall every detail. Despite his initial enthusiasm, he now appeared flustered, his confidence waning. Eventually, he resorted to consulting his damp and crumpled notes, a sign of his growing unease.
"Um, anyway, yeah, um," he stuttered, audibly gulping as his nerves got the better of him. Lily couldn't contain her laughter, emitting a snicker that earned us a glare from Mark.
"Hey, just relax," I interjected, trying to diffuse the tension. "We're not here to judge or intimidate you." With a gentle touch on his forearm and a chuckle, I attempted to reassure him, hoping to ease his obvious discomfort.
He paused, sharing a chuckle with me, while Lily struggled to suppress her laughter and eventually excused herself, leaving just Mark and me. Evidently, he felt more at ease with fewer listeners, so he pressed on with his narrative.
"Anyway," he resumed, "Harper held complete control over the town and the mine, and he made sure everyone was acutely aware of that fact. When the disappearances began, he tried to sweep them under the rug, attributing them to anything but his own negligence in mining practices."
"What do you mean by 'negligence in mining practices'?" I interjected, eager to delve deeper into his intriguing tale.
He looked up, clearly pleased by my question. "Yes, exactly," he affirmed. "Harper adhered to a mining technique outlined by Dwight Brunst in the mid to late nineteenth century. This method mandated only one entry and exit point into the mine."
"Wait, so they were forbidden from creating additional exits?" I pressed for clarification.
"Not explicitly," he explained. "The practice advocated for just one entry and exit as it was believed to minimize the risk of cave-ins, at least in theory. However, there were instances where miners, feeling uneasy about this restriction, took matters into their own hands and carved out what they called 'Emergency Exits' for themselves. After about half of the town started going missing, Harper couldn't take criticism about how he responded, but most people say he was losing money quickly and didn't want to live in a world where he was poor. He walked into the mine, never to be seen again, much like the cave's past victims. Visitors report seeing and hearing Harper, trying to get them to leave."
As I stood there, listening to Mark's enthralling narrative, I found myself captivated by the mysterious allure of Raven's Nest. Unable to contain my curiosity, I decided to pose a question.
"So, what does the town look like now?" I inquired, eager to learn more about the present state of this enigmatic place.
Mark's demeanor shifted slightly as he rifled through his notes, a subtle indication that he didn't have a straightforward answer to my query.
"You've never been there?" I asked, my tone softening with genuine curiosity.
He flinched as though my question had struck a nerve. "Shhhhhh... shut up," he demanded, his voice tinged with unease.
Suppressing a chuckle, I leaned in closer and whispered, "Okay, hear me out. My sister Lily and I are investigating paranormal phenomena. Your story about Raven's Nest sounds like the perfect addition to our podcast. What do you say we compensate you for your guidance? Let's say, three hundred bucks?"
He straightened up, contemplating my proposition for a few moments. Without uttering a word, he extended his hand, and I met it halfway with my own, sealing our agreement with a firm handshake.
Our journey to Raven's Nest was no easy feat. Situated a good twenty miles from town and nestled deep within a dense valley. After all of the tight turns, narrow dirt roads, and steep inclines, it took us a grueling two and a half hours to go twenty-something miles, but we finally reached the outskirts of the infamous settlement. As we stood at the edge of the "Nest," anticipation mingled with trepidation, setting the stage for the eerie exploration that lay ahead.
I glanced at my phone; the time read 11:56 pm, signaling the late hour. Sensing the exhaustion weighing heavily, I suggested we catch a few hours of rest in Lily's jeep. Mark, though visibly unsettled, remained silent from the back seat, his arms folded tightly across his chest as he slumped against the window like a sulking child.
Drifting asleep in the passenger seat, I soon found myself ensnared in a nightmare. In my dream, Mark was being dragged away into the darkness, his desperate attempts to claw his way back to safety only resulting in broken fingertips. Despite his struggles, he was powerless against the unseen force pulling him inexorably into the abyss. Suddenly, I was alone, engulfed in utter darkness, my heart pounding with fear as I ran blindly from an unseen terror that seemed to pursue me relentlessly, its malevolent presence palpable but unseen.
I jolted awake, gasping for breath, my heart racing as the remnants of dread lingered in the pit of my stomach. It was morning, and I was struggling to adjust my vision. Lily's frantic but comforting voice broke through the haze of my terror, grounding me in reality. With her comforting embrace, I gradually calmed my racing thoughts, drawing deep, steadying breaths.
As we sat there, enveloped in each other's embrace, Mark approached the driver's side window with an unexpected question, "Alright, what's for breakfast?" His nonchalant tone and casual demeanor were a stark contrast to the harrowing nightmare that had just consumed my thoughts, momentarily dispelling the lingering specter of fear that had haunted my dreams.
Lily and I both look up at him and back at each other as we burst out into laughter.
Amidst our shared laughter, Lily and I exchanged amused glances before turning our attention back to Mark.
"Ha...ha, yeah. No, but seriously, what's for breakfast? Eggs, bacon, toast, at least?" Mark pressed, hoping for a more substantial response.
His earnest inquiry fueled our laughter further, our giggles echoing through the quiet night air. Eventually, we regained our composure and stepped out of the jeep, stretching our limbs after the cramped confines of the vehicle.
Mark awkwardly moves to the side, still waiting for an honest answer. Lily tossed him a granola bar, eliciting a bemused chuckle from him. With a shared understanding, we set off on foot, embarking on the hike into the town.
The path ahead was clear: a single dirt road that wound its way from the abandoned coal mine into the heart of the small settlement. The road, now overgrown and muddy from years of disuse, bore the marks of neglect and isolation. Wary of the treacherous conditions, Lily opted to forgo the risk of getting stuck, steering clear of the decrepit road that likely hadn't seen a traveler in at least half a century.
We parked Lily's jeep at the entrance to both the mine and the town of Raven's Nest, opting to proceed on foot from there. Standing at the mountain's peak, gazing down at the desolate town below, I couldn't help but ponder the history beneath the dilapidated structures. I imagined how this valley must have once been a pristine landscape cherished by the indigenous people who roamed its lush terrain.
"Jesus, this place is more like a shit nest," Mark muttered in disgust, his disdain evident in his tone.
Lily shot me a knowing glance, silently communicating her skepticism toward Mark's assessment of the town.
Deciding to put Mark's knowledge to the test, I casually inquired, "So, what year was this area founded?"
Mark's reaction was almost defensive as if my question had caught him off guard. He hesitated momentarily before fumbling for his note cards in his pocket, a telltale sign that he wasn't as knowledgeable as he let on.
Before he could respond, I interjected with another question, "Mark, how long have you worked at the museum?"
As Mark froze, his gaze locking onto mine like a deer caught in headlights, I watched him closely, waiting for any sign of hesitation or discomfort. My narrowed eyes bore into his, silently urging him to be honest.
Finally, breaking the tense silence, Mark confessed, "Look, this is only my first week. I... I haven't had the greatest time lately, and I really need the extra money. I'm sorry I lied, but I'll help however I can."
I met his gaze unwaveringly, sensing the sincerity in his words. Clearly, he was a man in need of redemption, grappling with his own personal struggles.
"Alright, alright, don't cry too much," I teased lightly, trying to ease the tension. Gesturing towards Lily, who was busy preparing her wireless motion cameras in her backpack, I continued, "Lily and I already figured that was the case. Honestly, we're surprised you agreed to come along."
Mark remained frozen, but the tension seemed to melt away from his expression, replaced by a tentative smile. It was a moment of shared understanding, a silent acknowledgment that he was still welcomed into our expedition despite his initial deception.
"Alright, I have the cams and portable batteries to make sure the cameras and anything we have with power can last," Lily said, her voice brimming with determination.
We began our descent into the town, our hiking boots struggling against the thick, clinging mud produced by the constant light rain and years of disuse. Each step was a battle, the mud threatening to swallow our boots with every move.
After an eternity of trudging through the muck, we finally reached the town's only paved road—the main road. It had taken us only about fifteen minutes to hike down, but navigating the muddy slope had sapped our energy. We paused for a break, taking a few minutes to clean off our boots and catch our breath.
As we rested, I noticed Lily rummaging through her bag with a focused intensity. Curious, I asked, "What are you looking for?"
"I brought five motion-detecting cameras that I want to set up strategically throughout the town," she replied, pulling out one of the cameras. She walked over to the nearest building, a structure that served as a post office, police station, and fire station. She positioned the camera outside the building so it was pointed at the only road leading in and out of the town.
"We need to cover all potential points of interest," she explained, securing the camera in place. "This one will monitor any activity on the main road. We should place the other cameras around key locations like the mine entrance, the town square, and some more intact buildings."
I nodded, appreciating her thoroughness. "Good idea. We need to make sure we capture anything unusual."
Mark, having finally caught his breath, joined us. "Alright, let's get these cameras set up and see what we can find," he said, a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Look," Lily said, turning her tablet screen toward us. She waved her hand in front of the camera she had just placed. The tablet displayed five squares on the interface, each meant to show a feed from one of the cameras. Since Lily had only set up one camera so far, only the bottom right square showed any footage pointed at the road leading out of town. She stopped waving her hand, and the feed went to a blue screen.
"What happened? Did we lose connection?" Mark asked frantically, his eyes wide with concern.
Lily cackled, struggling to contain her amusement. Composing herself, she waved her hand in front of the camera again, and the bottom right square showed her hand waving once more. "It's motion-activated. It's the best way to save on battery life," she explained.
Mark seemed to relax, though he was still catching his breath after the brief panic.
I glanced at my watch, noting the time. "It's 8:30. We're behind schedule. If you want to place the rest of your cameras, we better move now," I said, walking down the street.
Lily immediately got up and followed me, with Mark struggling to keep pace behind us. We reached the market building, and Lily positioned her second camera on the side of the road, pointing up at the market.
It's not much longer before we make it to the Town Hall. I suggest Lily place a camera nearby. She nods and heads into a building across from the Town Hall labeled, "Slaughterhouse: LOCAL ANIMALS ONLY."
As Lily explores the building to find an adequate spot for the camera, I wait for Mark to catch up. While I wait, I can't help but imagine this town in its prime, picturing the streets filled with families who loved each other.
My thoughts are abruptly cut off by a sound echoing in the distance—a roar unlike any I've ever heard. It was a mix of a human screaming in pain, the roar of a lion, and, near the end, the howl of a wolf. The chilling sound sent shivers down my spine.
I jump to my feet and immediately call out, "Lily, you okay?"
There's no response from Lily, but I'm interrupted by Mark finally catching up, panting heavily.
"Holy... shit... did you... hear that?" Mark said frantically between breaths.
"Yeah, we have to find Lily," I say, bolting into the slaughterhouse. I glance back to see Mark bracing himself on the steps of the Town Hall, struggling to keep up.
As I enter the building, the stench of rotting flesh hits me like a wave, causing me to gag. The smell is too fresh to be decades old.
"Lily? Lily, where are you?" I yell, using my shirt to shield my nose from the overwhelming odor.
"Rory, I'm in here!" I hear Lily yell from a room two doors down. I pass the first door, peeking in to ensure I hadn't misheard, but I wish I hadn't looked.
Inside the first room, I catch a glimpse of what appears to be a pile of animal carcasses, their decayed bodies arranged in a grotesque display. The sight is horrifying, the flesh still disturbingly fresh. The bile rises in my throat, but I force myself to focus on finding Lily.
I rush to the room where her voice came from, pushing the door open. Lily is there, setting up the camera, seemingly oblivious to the horror in the adjacent room. Relief floods through me as I see she's safe.
"Lily, did you hear that roar?" I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Yeah, I heard it," she replies, her eyes wide with concern. "I was just finishing up here. Let's get back to Mark and figure out what that was." She had placed the camera in a window, pointing directly at the Town Hall.
We hurry back outside, where Mark still catches his breath as we meet between the buildings. "We need to stay together from now on," I say firmly, looking at both of them. "Whatever that noise was, it's not something we want to face alone."
"Let's check out the Town Hall!" Mark says excitedly as he slowly clambers through a broken window.
"Did he not just hear what I said?" I mutter under my breath, shaking my head in disbelief.
Lily gives me a shrug, her eyes reflecting a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Guess we're heading into the Town Hall then," she says, adjusting her backpack and walking towards the broken window.
I sigh and follow suit, hoisting myself up and carefully maneuvering through the jagged glass. Inside, the air is musty, filled with the scent of old paper and decaying wood. Dust motes float lazily in the beams of sunlight streaming through the cracked windows.
The main hall is vast and eerily silent, with rows of empty chairs facing a stage draped in tattered curtains. The walls are lined with faded portraits and yellowed maps of the town, remnants of a time when this place was alive and bustling.
Mark is already at the front, examining a large, decrepit desk. "Look at this," he says, his voice echoing in the empty space. "It's like stepping back in time."
I walk over, glancing at the old papers scattered across the desk. Most are mundane—meeting minutes, maintenance logs—but one catches my eye. It's a letter dated June 1925, addressed to Harper Franstein.
"Harper, the disappearances are becoming more frequent. The townsfolk are getting restless, and I fear they may take matters into their own hands if we don't act soon. We need to find out what's causing this before it's too late."
I read the letter aloud, and the room fell silent. "Sounds like things were getting pretty tense," Lily remarks, her voice subdued.
As I'm distracted by the time capsule in front of us, Mark sneaks off.
I'm not sure how long it was before she noticed, but I saw Lily looking around before saying, "Where the hell did Mark go?" breaking me out of my trance.
I look around, turning my head in all directions, and shrug at Lily. I hear shuffling in the second room down the hall, so I slowly walk toward it.
"Mark?" I call out.
Just then, a loud crash reverberates through the building, making it sound like the whole place was about to come down.
We run in and see Mark struggling to keep himself from falling into a giant hole that must've broken under his weight. Trying not to laugh, I glance at Lily. We help him up as he dramatically falls onto his back, wheezing as he catches his breath.
Lily and I can't contain our laughter anymore as we bust out laughing hard. Startled by our sudden outburst, Mark jumps in fear. He looks around, confused for a few seconds, before realizing that we are laughing at him.
"Jesus, thanks, I guess," he says, clearly thankful but annoyed by our reaction.
After we contained ourselves, we headed back outside, exiting through the window Mark entered through. He struggles to climb out, but after Lily gives him a hand, he is safely out of the Town Hall.
"Alright, Ror, where should we put the next camera?" Lily asks me.
I stop to think momentarily, trying to picture the town's layout. "I think the only place left is the neighborhood," I respond confidently. I always talk like that with Lily. Over the years, I've realized she is the only person I can have that much confidence around. With anyone else, I'm worried about saying something stupid or wrong or how they'll view me, but with my sister, everything is easy.
As I look at the replica map of the town in its heyday from the museum, I determine that the neighborhood is to the East. "Okay, looks like we head East past the Library. Let's go." I say, walking away.
It only takes about eight minutes to get to the long strip of road that housed the town's workers. According to the map, there were fifteen houses along this strip of road.
The houses stand eerily silent, their wooden frames weathered and decayed by time. We walk down the road, our footsteps crunching on the gravel and echoing in the stillness. The air feels heavier here like the past is watching us, waiting to reveal its secrets.
"Let's put the last cameras on that house at the end of the road," I suggest, pointing to a house that looks slightly less dilapidated than the others, "another one at the last house on the other side, and the last we can save for a spot you choose."
Lily nods and heads toward the first house, pulling another camera from her backpack. She sets it up on the porch, positioning it to capture the entire street, and does the same in the opposite house. As I stand with Mark breathing hard, still unable to catch his breath since we first got here, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. I glance around nervously but see nothing out of the ordinary.
"All set," Lily says, breaking my reverie, "Still no ideas for the last cam?" Lily asks me.
"Like I said, wherever you think it would be best. I feel like we have enough good spots and angles, so go wild with that one," I told her.
She smirked and kept walking next to me. Mark was still struggling behind, but after the town hall mishap, he was trying his best to keep up. I looked at my watch, and it read '12:30 pm'.
"Holy shit, it's already 12:30," I said in amazement, but no one else seemed fazed. It felt like we'd only been here thirty minutes, not almost four hours.
We walked back down the street. Lily and I had been discussing on the walk that she should put the last camera at the town's only stoplight in front of the Library.
As we made our way to it, I could have sworn I was seeing something moving fast past my vision in the corner of my eye. Every time I turned to look, it was gone. I chalked it up to being my imagination until Lily and Mark both experienced the same thing.
"What the fuck was that?" Mark asked as he ducked, bracing for something terrible to happen. Lily and I looked back at him and then at each other as we shrugged. It was after that that I started seeing things, too.
I confided in Lily about the unsettling visions and sounds, and she admitted she had experienced the same phenomena but had kept quiet, fearing Mark would dismiss her as paranoid.
"Well, it's probably just a cat or something," I said, attempting to downplay the situation, but neither seemed convinced.
We continued our trek, and I noticed that the more we walked, the more frequently I caught fleeting glimpses of movement in my peripheral vision. It was beginning to grate on my nerves.
Finally, we reached the light in front of the Library. As Lily mounted the camera, I felt a sense of satisfaction. We were making good progress, and it seemed like a suitable moment to start exploring the town more freely. We decided to split up and cover different sections of the town.
"Wait, we have to go alone? Why can't we stay together like you said?" Mark asked frantically, but Lily and I ignored him as we headed in separate directions. He continued to protest, but we paid him no mind. Eventually, I was either far enough away to not hear him anymore, or he had given up. Either way, I was happy to enjoy the eerie silence of the town.
As I wandered, the stillness of Raven's Nest enveloped me. With its decrepit buildings and overgrown streets, the town exuded an unsettling charm. It was as if I had stepped into a forgotten world, a place frozen in time with secrets waiting to be unearthed. The ambiance reminded me of an amusement park's haunted town section—artificially eerie yet irresistibly intriguing. Despite the creepiness, the mysterious vibe of the town kept me engaged and eager to explore its hidden corners.
I glanced at my watch again, only to find the time glaring back at me: 3:19 pm. It couldn't be right. There was no way it had been that long since I last checked. Panic seized me, and I called out for Lily, my voice tinged with urgency. She appeared beside me in a matter of minutes, her expression mirroring my concern.
"What's up, Ror? You okay?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.
"How long would you say it's been since you put the last camera down?" I inquired, my heart pounding in my chest.
Lily's brow furrowed as she struggled to come up with an answer. "Uh, I don't know, thirty minutes?" she hazarded a guess.
I held up my watch, displaying the time: 3:20 pm. Lily fell silent, her eyes widening in disbelief. She was never great with time, but missing almost three hours of our memory was unprecedented.
"There's no way. Your watch must be—" Lily began, her voice trailing off as she checked her own watch, only to freeze in shock when she found it displayed the same time as mine.
"Lil, something is going on," I stated, my voice tight and apprehensive. I glanced up at the sky, my stomach churning as I noticed the clouds darkening and rolling in from all sides of the valley.
The sky closed rapidly, ominous clouds obscuring the sun as thunder rumbled ominously against the mountains.
"Mark? Mark, where are—" I began to call out, but before I could finish, Mark emerged from behind a wall, appearing as if he'd been too frightened to venture far on his own.
"We have to get inside!" Mark exclaimed urgently, his voice tinged with fear.

2024.06.09 10:23 bennettyboi My thoughts on the game after 30 hours +getting the true ending

Pros
-combat is excellent and is essentially a very successful translation of sekiro-style combat to the second dimension. for those unaware of the differences and try to play the game like hollow knight you will die FAST, hollow knights combat is about positioning yourself, and being as aggressive as possible, in Nine sols heavy emphasis is placed on timing, and knowing when to counter attack, parrying is king
-the bosses, especially the main bosses are great, With special attention being drawn to the 4th through 9th sols
-This game has one of the best final boss in a video game that I have played in a long time
-art, the game is beautiful* with the occasional fully animated cut scene
-the world building, the game describes itself as taopunk which is cyberpunk mixed with Taoist mythology, I would love to see this setting explored more
-this is a rare souls-like with an actual difficulty option, I beat the game on regular difficulty but I appreciate that the option was there for the people who wanted one.
MINOR COMPLAINTS
-*I couldn't help but feel that some areas didn't meaningfully differentiate from each other, (you will spend a lot of time in this game in dark blue-green metal corridors) some areas looked close to identical to each other or were a simple color swap, however there are enough unique areas that this isnt that bad.
-hit-boxes, I'm not someone who generally notices these things so Imagine how bad some of these have to be for me to take note of it, for example I can be blatantly out of a grab attack and be teleported 10 feet right into into the attack, some attacks I can be very clearly outside of and still get hit. however 99% of the time the hit-boxes are actually really good, its only a few examples on some of the larger enemies that I actually noticed
-fast travel currently requires you to go to the pavilion first before going to another node which feels really unnecessary especially because you already have multiple reasons to go back there even without the mandatory visit, if you were allowed to teleport to any node it would save a loading screen.
-the game is relatively linear for a metroidvainia with only a bit of open ended exploration towards the end of the game
-the reusing of mini-bosses, I'm not against the idea but most were re-used twice or even three times
-no boss rush, but I hear they will add that in eventually.
This is an excellent game, I would recommend it to people who enjoyed Sekiro style combat, Hollow knight fans and people who enjoy hard games generally. Red Candle games knocked it out of the park in there first attempt at a metroidvainia and I for one am looking forward to what they do next. And if you play this game, PLEASE, leave a positive review to support these devs, they really deserve it.

2024.06.09 10:19 StrawberryHot2305 [TOMT] Old iOS Haunted Mansion Platformer Game

There was a game I used to play on iOS somewhere between 2011-2016, it was a side-scrolling (but 3d) platformer in a haunted/ghost mansion, you played as Frankenstein, the graphics seemed, at the time, very good, there was reflective metal, glowing creatures, you could go up floors. The ceiling was off the screen and the walls were made of wood, or possibly a castle-like stone. The whole thing was based around a kid who had Halloween Monster trading cards, or a comic, or something like that, and the monsters and game were from that but I don't remember if he imagined it or it waas real, or what. Let me know if you have an idea!

2024.06.09 09:54 Stanley232323 Daily Community Tiering Post Day 53: It's always darkest before the 'Don. It's Archaludon/Dynamax-Duraludon!

Hello again everybody!

Before we get started on today's post the current voting for Hisuian-Samurott currently has votes for B tier with a solid lead! For the time being we will put Hisuian-Samurott into the B tier with its Unovan counterpart and if anything changes I'll update on tomorrow's post!
Meanwhile the vote for Hisuian-Typhlosion has officially ended with B tier being the winning vote! I've included the Weighted Average for that vote in the tier list below :)
(Please note that this voting/tiering is centered around Classic as the current state of Endless requires specific strategies after a certain point.)

Current Tier List:

S tier:

Garganacl (4.37), Cloyster (4.01), Skeledirge (4.48), Gholdengo (4.49), Tinkaton (4.64)

A tier:

B tier:

Kanto-Persian/Dynamax Kanto-Meowth (3.25), Weavile (3.23), Starmie (2.92), Rhyperior (2.88), Quagsire (2.91), Mamoswine (3.25), Whimsicott (3.36), Aggron/Mega (3.48), Infernape (3.48), Alolan-Decidueye (2.89), Johto-Typhlosion (3.06), Torterra (3.03), Serperior (3.60), Unovan-Samurott (3.04), Chesnaught (2.74), Incineroar (3.49), Rillaboom/Dynamax (3.43), Inteleon/Dynamax (3.17), Hisuian-Typhlosion (3.15), Hisuian-Samurott

C tier:

Linoone (2.97), Meganium (2.09), Emboar (2.39), Hisuian-Decidueye (2.65)

F tier:

Dustox (1.47)
With that being said let's get to today's vote!
Today is day 53 of tier voting and we are officially back to doing regular votes on specifically requested Pokemon! :) To start things off today we will discuss the former GOAT of Endless mode, as well as the Dynamax form of its pre-evolution, but of course these votes are about Classic as opposed to Endless so this is a very different ballgame we're playing here. The reason we are voting these together as one vote is because they are nearly identical in functionality with only slight differences and essentially it just comes down to choosing one or the other for your run since Archaludon can not Dynamax but you're more likely to roll a Metal Alloy before a Dynamax Bracelet and Max Mushrooms. They also have the same typing, Passive, Egg Moves and almost identical natural moveset with the exception of Archaludon getting its Signature Move, Electro Shot. What will likely come as a surprise to most of you however, is Dyna-Duraludon actually has a slightly better stat spread than it's evolved form (in every case except Special Defense which is only 5 points worse and HP which is the same). However, Archaludon certainly has the advantage abilities-wise as it gets Stamina or Sturdy as opposed to the very niche and not necessarily useful Light or Heavy Metal. (Their Hidden Ability, Stalwart isn't implemented but also is useless in single battles and honestly just not very good anyways). Also, Electro Shot is an extremely powerful move, especially on a Rain team or in a water biome where Rain is fairly common. So as for which one is better overall it's somewhat hard to say. For typing, Dragon/Steel is a very strong typing with only 2 weaknesses, an immunity and 9 resistances! The typing is immune to or resists over half of the entire type chart! Both forms have good Physical bulk and attacking stats (moreso on Special Attack) as well as okay speed. Natural access to Metal Burst is also very powerful even in Classic as even with the rough Special Defense it has enough HP to usually survive a single hit (or Archaludon can just run Sturdy and not even worry about it). For Passive Ability they get Download which is really good against certain opponents but definitely wants to know what it's being sent in against to make sure it boosts Special Attack. For Egg Moves they definitely got some gifts with Ice type coverage, Body Press (which is mostly useful for Stamina Archaludon), Recover and Core Enforcer (which doesn't have its secondary effect implemented at the time of writing this but is still a 100 BP Dragon-type Special Attack). While the starter cost of 5 is somewhat on the expensive side, even base form Duraludon is incredibly powerful compared to most of the early game encounters you'll experience in Classic.
(Please note that Pokemon with Mega/Dynamax evolutions will be tiered as one Pokemon and not tiered separately for their Mega/Dynamax form. Different variants such as Alolan Persian vs. Kanto Persian will be tiered separately however.)

What each tier generally means:

S tier:

Top tier, can make or break your entire run, essentially the cream of the crop.

A tier:

Very strong but not quite top tier, might be slightly outclassed or has a slight weakness holding it back.

B tier:

Solid choice that can make it to your endgame team, might be reliant on team composition to truly function well or might just be overall outclassed.

C tier:

Usually early-mid game 'Mons, ones you don't really want to take to end game if you can avoid it, usually pretty decently glaring weakness but something redeeming enough to keep from F tier.

F tier:

No reason to use in end game unless you're doing it for a meme/joke/completionist/Egg Voucher purposes.

Abstain/No Opinion:

This will be a voting option mostly for Pokemon people haven't unlocked/used to their full potential yet. Can also be used as a "See Results" button (remember Reddit won't let you change your vote however) if you don't want to skew the data but want to see the results of the vote.
(Data in parentheses is for Dynamax Duraludon)

Archaludon (Dynamax-Duraludon)

Base stats:

Learnset by level up:

Leer, Metal Claw, Rock Smash, Hone Claws, Metal Sound, Breaking Swipe, Dragon Tail, Iron Defense, Focus Energy, Dragon Claw, Flash Cannon, Metal Burst, Hyper Beam

2024.06.09 06:38 Giant_Acroyear Dossur: Impossible [1]

Let us begin with appropriate mood music
Agent B17 - MISSION LOG [Human Standard Time]: March 19, 2137
Shadow Cabal System Expansion Lab, Remote location on Aafa
Observer W04 had impressed upon me the importance of this mission, both for the Ongoing Primary Objective, and for the Urgent Secondary Objective. After weeks of data analysis following the Seige of Mileau, the Intelligence Division of the Dossur Conspiracy had picked up chatter in the network on the location of our captured hostages.
We had narrowed down an information nexus at a newly identified Shadow Cabal System Expansion Lab on Aafa, which my team of Shadows were currently infiltrating. Posing as a maintenance crew for the ventilation system, we had opened the side of a rooftop cooling unit, and had entered the ductwork as a cleaning crew.
Once inside the ducts, we had opened our cleaning devices and pulled out the real equipment: a close link point to point FTL radio, and a spool of optical cables, along with several micro camera units, to allow the conspiracy to more closely monitor the activities in this "hidden facility".
My team split, to deploy the monitoring system through the facility, while I focused on the "secure computing chamber". Getting to those servers was deemed a high value target, and being the best available agent, I was tasked to remain invisible, and enable the "owning" of the data being stored there. The other members of my team, backtracked to the cooling unit, cleaning as they went, to maintain the cover story. They entered the maintenance cart and drove it to the meeting site, their tasks complete.
[Time advance: 3 claws]
The square conduit was dark, lit only by the evenly spaced grilles of vents. I slowly crawled along the open passage, being sure to keep my claws from skittering on the bottom. My weight, all [140 grams], was not enough to warp the metal, so I did not make any noise as I progressed. I could finally see the lit grille that was my current objective; It appeared someone had stayed in the lab to work late. No matter, my time was not of the essence, maintaining secrecy was. I would wait long enough for this dedicated individual to pack it in.
I slowed my approach as I came up to the grille, and placed the monitoring device I had brought with me, such that the fiber optic link back to the camera control pod was well hidden. The fisheye lens at the end of it would ensure that nothing could be missed by its wide field of view. The microphone would pick up even the sound of breathing from across the room, and the spread spectrum signaling link, the latest out of the Conspiracy labs, would not attract notice due to the resemblance to white noise splattered across the radio spectrum.
With the camera in place, I relaxed and watched it's feed from the display in my night vision goggles. There was still enough time for some last minute surveillance. The exfiltration at the designated landing zone would not take place until I gave the signal. The backup LZ would not be needed for this mission.
Whiskers passed, ticking away slowly, as I watched this mid-level planner work though scheduling transport of scores of victims to various Predator Disease Facilities. Eventually, the Kolshian, one Dr. Javyrius, was satisfied with his work, and made a backup copy to carry home. He popped the backup chip out of the computer and slipped the fingernail sized unit into his pocket.
Sqwek. This mission just got much harder…
I loosed the collar of my vest, and pulled the blowgun from my pack. I selected a soporific dart from my selection of ammunition, and lined up the shot. With a quick, near silent puff of my cheeks, the dart flew to its target, striking exactly where I needed it to go; the basal artery on the back of the Kolshian's neck. The Kolshian slapped at it, like it was an insect; this only helped to inject the remaining dose into his neck, which was then pumped directly into his brain. He stood up abruptly, then staggered along the desk as the drug began to take effect, finally slumping to the floor, asleep, as he was overcome by the full effects of the drug.
The risk was great, but I needed to make sure that the files on both the mainframe and the backup copy on his laptop were replaced with the data that the Conspiracy needed to be there.
I opened the ventilation grille and slipped through it into the lab. I rapelled down the monofilament cable I had attached to the floor of the vent, and, on reaching the floor, detached the carabiner from my harness.
I scurried across the floor, keeping to all fours. I approached the now somnolent Kolshian, and quickly checked the pulse at his neck, removing the spent dart. Having verified that his pulse was slow but steady, I confirmed he was in a deep sleep. I again had some time. We could not have our cover blown by an accidental death, and the ensuing investigations.
I moved down along his body, taking care to keep out of view of the lab windows. I reached into the pocket where the backup chip he created had been placed. I removed the chip, and replaced it with one of the three copies of false data that I had brought with me. I then climbed up on his back, and leapt from there to the top of the stool he had been working from, to his computer.
The machine was still logged in, and I proceeded to remove and replace the data files with the ones the Conspiracy had prepared. I made copies of the PD patient data he'd been working on while the Stellar Systems Survey data were updated to mark certain out-of-the-way star systems as having no habitable or exploitable planets. As such, these star systems would be marked as not needing any further investigation, and would fall off the Federation's radar for exploration and exploitation. This would make these systems the perfect places for hidden colonies, a prime goal of the Dossur Conspiracy.
More immediately, though, these records of which victims were assigned to what facilities would be of great interest to the "Bring Them Home" faction of the Dossur Conspiracy… This mission had uncovered a goldmine, and I intended to see that the most was made of it.
The clomping of boots in the outer hallway alerted me to the approach of the guard, and I curled up behind the screen of the laptop, out of sight of the lab windows. Score one for being one of the smallest sapients in the known galaxy. I heard the boots pause briefly, then move on.
"Central Control, this is Security One. The geeks left the lights on in Lab 4 again. Go ahead and turn that off." the guard called out over his radio.
A short time later, I pulled the memory chips with the completed copies from the laptop and dropped onto the stool, and then back to the floor. The lights in the lab went out a short time later, but I had already reeled myself back up the monofilament into the open vent and replaced the grille.
A few little viral surprises had been left while I had the laptop open; the boys in the cyber division would be ecstatic. Direct access to these Shadow Cabal servers meant that these excursions into the lab would no longer be necessary and the risk associated with getting the system data off of Aafa, were greatly reduced.
All that remained was to extricate myself. Having planted the observation microcameras, I was able to return to the rooftop and go uncover the last piece of vital equipment left by my team: A memory fiber glider.
I slipped into the glider harness, and activated the memory, which unfurled the carbon fiber from it's rolled up pliant state to the stiff aerodynamic wings I needed, and I leapt from the roof, gliding away under the darkness.
"Mama Bird, come get your fledgling." I whispered into the comand channel, and maintained my glide path over the road leading to the facility.
"Copy, Shadow. Pickup in 3, 2, 1..." came back, and the cargo bay of the stealth courier opened behind me, swallowing my glider like a fish snapping up an insect. THe tiny ship flew on, following the road out over the nearby ocean, it maintained nape of the earth altitude until well over the horizon, and then went extra-orbital, before engaging the FTL drive to the safe hold.
MISSION COMPLETE.

Retro Gaming 00's- Super Smash Bros Melee: (2001)

Super Smash Bros Melee was probably one of the best multiplayer fighting games to be released for the Nintendo GameCube. This game not only included more characters than its Nintendo 64 predecessor but it also featured many exciting soundtracks which featured remixes of songs from old NES & SNES games. Some of the best soundtracks in this game had included Mute City, Big Blue, Great Bay along with Hyrule Temple theme and more. There were so many cool characters featured in this game including Dr. Mario, Roy, Young Link, Pichu, Zelda along with others. Super Smash Bros Melee features a fantastic opening sequence which introduces players to the main screen where players have the option of choosing their level of difficulty in one player mode.
One of the more exciting things about Super Smash Bros Melee deals with earning trophies by completing 1 Player Mode on Classic, Adventure or All Star mode. When people choose their character they have the option of deciding what level along with how many lives they can start off with. Some of the stages in this game are pretty epic such as Mute City & Big Blue because they were awesome levels in the F-Zero game and was always interesting to see what it would be like to fight on those levels instead of racing on it. Along with F-Zero the Pokemon stages in this game were also pretty cool along with battling in some of the Zelda levels. Some might argue that the bosses in Super Smash Bros Melee are tougher than the ones in the last game. Even though, the Master Hand returns as a boss in this game Giga Bowser seemed like a tougher boss than Metal Mario or Giant Donkey Kong in Super Smash Bros Brawl. This game was praised by fans and critics alike for being one of the best crossover fighting games for the Nintendo GameCube and a title with replay value that would last for several years following its release.

2024.06.09 05:16 juanchinnn [question] What are good starter watches

I’ve never been into watches, I have had an Apple Watch Series 7 for the past 4 yrs. I can lie I loved it, and honestly I only used with the analog wallpapers. Anyways… Two weeks ago I lost it.
Probably a sign from above to get into watches, even though this week someone told me she found it.
Ever since, I’ve talked to a watch guy ab watches and he told me ab the moonswatch as a starter like a fun watch, honestly in pictures it looks so good. He did tell me ab the drawbacks. Today I went to check out watches at the mall close to my house.
I checked the swatch store, the moon watch in person looks really good, as in the details within the watch it was not big on me and it looked really good. I mean for $270 I was okay with it, but I couldn’t help that it looks like straight plastic even though it says it’s 2/3 “bioceramic,” the glass feels horrible just like plastic too. I mean I had an Apple Watch and the glass on the screen felt just right. The salesman’s wording also drew me away, that I am getting an omega, but to me it was an overpriced swatch. I wanted a metal watch.
I had also browsed around and found tissots look really nice. I’ve read also about seiko and citizens, they are nice but I don’t like the big fonts on the watches for the names. I do prefer smaller font sizes
I want to start off with $200-$400 watch (if I like the watch a little bit more)
The tissots I’ve found they all looked good that I couldn’t choose, but maybe I’m opened to other brands models even seiko or citizen.

2024.06.09 04:48 Clear-Maybe-6710 I love delivering for Amazon

When ever I get a new hire to train or someone asks me if I like delivering for amazon I say I love it! I mean it does have its ups and downs. But today a song came on my playlist and I was really hoping people would notice that when I’m playing it with my windows down waiting to pull into load out. That song is I’m not ok by my chemical romance. Tbh I’m really not ok with the bs I’ve delt with the past couple months. I’m definitely not ok. But I do love delivering when the day goes with no problem. Just a rant and wanted to get this out..
Things that happened the past few months that put me on the edge.
  1. Getting screwed on benefits. Was moving to full time a while back and was going to get benefits. I told them 4 months in advance that my old benefits where going to expire. Constantly told them to remind that I need to get enrolled. Alright the enrollment period happens and I never receive a email. They told me to wait for a email again and j should get it by the end of the month. I wait and 2 days before the end I remind them once again and then I’m told enrollment has passed. I got it worked out but still damn that really sucked.
  2. Went into load out and i had no carts ready. The app said to wait until all carts are ready but I asked for a pick list to start loading when I get a cart. They could not provide a picklist. So I thought ok. We will work this out. First 2 overflow carts get to staging and I start to take them was going to wait to load until I know the tote count. The 3rd cart is ready with 12 bags on it. I couldn’t wait no more I had to start loading because it was 5 min till dispatch. I didn’t get the last cart until 2 minets to departure. I had to rush load everything because I was holding everyone else up. I believe that route had 21 bags and around 40 overflow. I tried to organize the best I could with aid numbers but what really got me was my first tote was in the middle of the van at the very bottom. I had to unload half my van just to get to it and my semi organized van turned into a nightmare. I somehow managed to deliver all the packages without a rescue.
  3. This was on the same trip as 1. The sliding doors! When you try to open the sliding door and it just barley moves! The tracks are so gunked up or the rollers are completely broken. The sliding door at some times only opened like 1/4 of the way. That was almost my breaking point.
  4. A/C not working. Those vans can get pretty hot right? Well of course they will! It’s a big metal box with the sun heating everything up. We shouldn’t haft to deal with that. I’m pretty tired of it.
  5. OTP. I’ve had a big increase in those the past couple of weeks. It was good and easy at first but now I had one lady cus me out because she didn’t understand I couldn’t leave the package without that code. She called and talk to 2 reps and they both said she could use the last 2 of her phone number. WTF support that doesn’t work anymore! Yeah so I called them and the guy called her back and I was able to deliver it. I probably should have just left but I didn’t want to bring anything back to the station because I didn’t want to sit in line waiting for those slow flex drivers.. she left me negative feedback… out of my control lady..
  6. Customer feedback. The most annoying way of saying you don’t know how to do your job even when you do it correctly. I did a test a little bit ago because I noticed a customer didn’t have a note for delivery. I know this route because I’ve been doing it for months. It’s in the hood and she always wants her packages in the back yard up the 20 stairs behind the screen patio. One order she forgot to put the note. So I put it behind the trash can in the front porch. Not visiable from the road. Cool delivered. I received a negative complaint from that person the following week and just so everyone knows that a customer can update a comment after it has been delivered and then say you didn’t follow instructions. Her comment was in all caps saying leave it on the fkn back porch.not the front.the back.
I have a couple more things but I think I’ll just leave it at this point because atm, I’m not ok. I feel better getting this out. I know there is a lot of people going through everything I just posted and I wish a the best of luck. Just wish amazon would take me somewhere fancy first before they screw me.

“..-spatch to 658…”
“Zzzzz…” With reluctance, and determination not to be woken up from my catnap, I pretend, at least for a moment, not to hear the buzzing sound.
“Dispatch to 658, you’re 10 minutes past check in! Did you fall asleep?”
I sighed, eyes still shut as I brought a claw to the small radio clipped to my shirt's front pocket. click “No, Dispatch, I am not asleep, I am quietly observing the situation.” The low, gravelly tone of my voice rumbled out in as soft a whisper as I could manage. It was met with silence for a few heartbeats, before the link of the radio connection clicked back to life from the other end.
“Bullshit. You’re just napping in that damn tree again with the camera on the meadow.” I was, in fact, in a tree. It was a rather nice one. Thanks to the environment here being similar enough to earth to be negligible, and the plant life nearly being about as diverse from what we’d been able to tell so far, many of the sights around me were oddly familiar. If not a bit off color. Though plants were not my area of expertise, nor interest. At least past what I needed to know for my work. The tree was more or less the same as the ‘Oaks’ I remember from my time field training on Earth The pale white bark, and the almost Blue foliage decorating its branches certainly deviated. That aside I had been awake for most of the last two hours, diligently recording the flight and habits of an avian species.
“Negative Dispatch. Aside from the last…” I paused to check the watch on the inside of my wrist. “20 minutes, these little guys have been active almost the whole time, and I’ve been manually handling the camera. We’ll have plenty of footage to submit, don’t you worry.” I looked around for a moment, making sure the camera was in fact where I had set it once the flock had settled down, just after dawn properly finished. The morning sky was still pale. The rotation of the planet had a similar speed to Earth as well, it was by and large one the the main reasons humans had been particularly excited to attempt their first, far flung out of system colony here.
“Well? Was it like they said? Did they go for the swarms that gathered at sunrise?” The excited voice came through again, as I continued to check my gear, pulling the temporary mount from the trunk of the tree by unbuckling the straps, and beginning to stow it in my bag. After a moment of juggling some brackets in my claws, I clicked the radio over again.
“Yes Jana, they did as expected. I don’t think we’ll have to worry about an epidemic or anything if they do things properly out here.” I confirmed the woman's assumptions, smirking slightly as I got into a crouching position on the thick branch I’d parked myself upon, looking around to double check that nothing was waiting for me on the ground or hiding near the base of the trunk. The forest comes alive in these early hours, as the creatures trade off, the night stalkers and the day walkers crossing paths as they go their respective ways. It was an excellent time for caution.
“Fantastic! Alright. I’ll let the boss know you’re done and safe, Come on back and we can get breakfast!” A soft chortle of laughter tickled my throat, before giving the radio one final connection.
“Agreed, I’ll radio again if anything happens on the way back, but I’m climbing down now. I should be there in about 40 minutes. 658 out.” I ended the radio call properly. It’s not like we had an abundance of oversight or anything with people scanning our radio chatter or recordings. Outside of the scientists that valued our documentation for zoological studies. But the principle of the thing mattered. There were only five Rangers for each settlement, making a total of twenty of us on the planet. The Vishnu colony was still only about a year old, and we were forerunning what, to the galaxy at large, was an almost insane concept. Preservation of life and nature.
Coexistence.
I immediately scoffed at myself mentally, as I apparently let my thoughts wander into the dramatic while climbing down from the heights of the tree. My claws were diligent in controlling my descent. I’d spent a large portion of my childhood climbing. And crawling through dark, tight places when needed. I was good at it. I’d had to be. The result being that there were few places I wasn’t willing and capable of getting to with ease. Which is one of the few reasons I feel like I got this particular job in the first place. Sure, I couldn't beat the humans in a march, but I could be up and down the side of a cliff, or a tree, before they finished buckling their harness on. So for a job like this, I was more than welcomed by them for taking on the task. Despite all the Arboreal shit the humans had spit around since being introduced to the galaxy at large, my companions seemed exceptionally reluctant to get in a damned tree.
—---------
Advance time: 1 Hour
—---------
“You’re Late!” In spite of the annoyed tone, the voice calling out to me from up ahead was a welcome sound, as was the sight of my almost literal other half. My twin. She stood, hands on her hips in a petulant pose, in front of the pre-fab building that we were currently still using for our Ranger Station. Slanted metal roof, agreeably sturdy walls, and four rooms. A covered porch, with the official seal of our office hanging as a sign, was the only thing one could consider decoration. It was functional at the least.
“And you are impatient.” I answered calmly, smirking at her despite the weariness of my body. Through diligent training I was mostly capable of keeping up with our other companions at a decent pace, but a walk of that distance through wilderness was taxing on my body. And in spite of what some might consider a rude welcome, I was happy to see her, the mere fact of my being within proximity of my sister invigorating me again. My tail began to wag slightly, and even with the pout on her features, I noticed hers moving similarly. Before she could ask, I pulled the camera from the utility pouch on my waist, part of the uniform I was required to wear while on duty. It was, thankfully, not restrictive. Khaki shorts and short sleeved shirt, in deference to the warm weather of this planet’s current season, along with the belt, and holster holding my secured weapon. The large and heavy pack strapped onto my back was the worst of it by far. Filled with camping gear, survival tools, and the equipment I had needed for observations at the time, it had slowed me significantly on the way back at the end of several hours of work. As well as what I had run into only a short while ago. “Look.” I said simply, turning the viewing screen on the device to face her, letting her eyes focus on the image.
“...Oh! You found a den? Where?” Drejana’s attitude immediately improved, though I knew it had been an act for attention in the first place, it was amusing to see it crumble in the face of the cute, fluffy little things I had found.
“Only about ten minutes back, so not far at all. It certainly wasn’t there a few days ago. That means they are comfortable being near to people, or at least not very cautious of us.” I stood shoulder to shoulder with her now on the porch, flicking through the three images I had managed to get before the creatures had retreated into their hole. Their fur pattern matched much of the foliage in the area, the plants taking on a blue green hue in the majority of spaces. As Thomas had said when we first arrived about a year ago, the entire planet was like ‘Standing in the middle of Kentucky’. He’d had to explain that shortly after for us.
Despite the misnomer of the name of the actual grass on earth, this planet was in fact, a blue-green shade overall. And the little critters I’d found nearby were patterned in the same way. The majority of their fur was a similar shade of blue, with charcoal gray markings that we all agreed worked for camouflage. Long, thin snouts and muzzles, with short, rounded ears that had an impressive swivel, and the sleek furred tail. Roger had compared them to a crossing of Opossum and Foxes.
My sister trilled lightly, almost chirping with barely suppressed glee at the images, what I assumed to be a mother and two kits. The first image caught them unaware, the mother standing over the smaller ones while they argued over a bit of fruit they had been brought. The camera was entirely silent, but something I did had given me away, as all their heads were pointed directly at me in the next shot. The third only showed the puffed out tail of the mother retreating into the nearby den, having herded her charges in before her. My sibling and I found them equally cute. I knew this without having to ask, because it was the reason we were here in the first place.
We survived the Dominion, and Betterment, because of our physical attributes. Not our mental ones. On the outside, we were exemplary. Our scales gleamed, the normal hues of gray practically glowed, and some likened it to metal more than scale when describing us. Slightly taller than average, we were the same height, standing about a head above most of the taller humans we’d met. With our legs bent comfortably at least. If we stretched we towered over them by a large margin. Drejana had a more feminine shape of course, but with slightly broader shoulders than most females. I was mirrored in that, with a decently masculine build, but with slightly narrower shoulders to match her, though my muscles were more pronounced. That was mostly due to the difference in our work. I spent most of my time keeping up with the humans while training and working back on earth, and Jana spent most of her time learning the more intellectual side of things. Combine that with an abundance of amazing food, and I’d bulked up, while she had filled out. The only other visual difference, aside from individual scars, were our eyes. Both of our eyes were technically blue, though mine were so dark that without close attention or direct light, they looked black. Hers were brighter, almost startling in their vividness, like cobalt. We were strong, physically gifted, and lived through hell because of it.
Twins were rare. Twins without deformities from complications in the egg were even rarer. Our parents had been handsomely rewarded for their results with us. As soon as we could walk without help, we were handed over to Betterment. At first we were treated well. Or as well as a fascist state treating what boiled down to experimental subjects for new genetic improvements considered ‘well’. The first few years were normal. We were fed better than most as we learned later, and given preferential treatment. Until we started to actually think about the world around us, and each other. It all went bad when they tried to separate us, and we became… difficult. Mentally defective. Overly social. Attached. Empathic. The re-education following was-
“Stop.” The soft voice beside me pulled me out of the thoughts. I realized I'd been staring into nothing unblinkingly. I shook my head with a harsh twitch before turning to look at her through one eye. “You’re doing it again Nova…” Her voice soothed me, and I felt her hand resting gently on the bend of my arm. I nodded, the habit picked up only after a week on earth when we first got there.
“I- Yes. Yes, sorry, I wasn’t paying attention again.” A tremble traveled down by spine and through my tail, shaking away the rest of the thoughts that had attempted to settle in again. “I’m alright. Just tired. And hungry.” I sighed, huffing out through my nose as I put the camera away, and patted her hand on my arm, smiling gently. “Let me put away my things and we can go eat. I’d like to get some proper sleep before this afternoon.”
Having banished the dark thoughts for me, she smiled much more brightly, nodding in return and letting her tail sway. “I’ll wait in the car.” She leaned in, giving me an affectionate peck on the cheek, which was mostly just a bump from the tip of her muzzle. I gestured back with an affirmative, and headed into the station to secure my gear, hand off the recording equipment, and change to head home.

2024.06.09 02:18 Brainfried Albert - the Cowardly Narcissist

Many problem gamers wear their red flags for all to see, allowing you to decide if you can handle those particular flags or not. Other problem gamers, like Albert, reveal their red flags slowly and casually. Like the proverbial boiling of a frog. By the time you realize they are the problem in your game, it’s too late.
The time is mid-2019, Gerard joins the group and is the ideal gamer. He wants to enjoy the game, comes prepared, doesn’t hog the spotlight, but is ready for when it’s on him. After a few months when Gerard asked to invite a person who was just hired on at his place of employment, we said sure.
Albert knew the 5E and was a positive addition to the game. Or so we thought.
His PC did not start off broken, but ended up a bit broken in time. Around double-digit levels his eldritch knight was becoming a bit unhittable. I, the DM, would need to roll 18’s just to score a hit thanks to his high AC. This was made worse when he got a Cloak of Displacement or cast Blur.
When it came to saving throws, he was nearly immune thanks to feats, decent Dex stat, and class features. And that is ok, I am not a new DM and know how to challenge the group. So, I designed a particular combat just to challenge him, that threw a lot of lightning bolts at him (the group’s tank). Some constructs that would start with a standard Lightning Bolt aimed at its target, and when it was reduced to 50% hp, the Lightning Bolt would recharge. Albert’s PC took a beating, but the party won, and Albert had sufficient healing to keep him alive without issue.
But he moaned and whined about it. I was a little irritated at that, because his PC was never truly in danger because he could easily make the saves and had easy access to heals.
That is when I started remembering the various little things he had been doing all this time and started noting more things that would pop up:
Here are the less minor things that just show what a pathetic cowardly narcissist he truly was.
Gerard ended up getting laid off of work at the same time we switch to VTT. It turns out the Albert set up a situation to make Gerard look bad and Albert look good (promoted even). So, when layoff time came, Gerard had some ticks against him that made the choice easy for the higher-ups in the company.
Now this story makes several of us laugh. All except Albert.
Spoilers for Curse of Strahd
In Curse of Strahd there is a cart that says something like “Do not open!”.
Another player’s PC (a stereotypical half-orc barbarian) said “I ain’t gonna let no sign tell me what to do.”, and proceeded to open the cart.
The cart was full of alchemists’ fire and exploded for a heinous amount of damage. The party was low-level enough that a failed saving throw could kill.
Two PCs died. One of those PC’s was Albert’s.
The half-orc made his save and survived.
Now I knew that Albert would whine, so I took a pic of the trap and posted it in group chat.
Well rather than him being an adult (this was CoS after all, and was not going to be easy) making a new PC, he read every single word of that trap and caught one bit that I missed.
The person opening the door gets disadvantage to their Dexterity save.
Rather than letting it go, he decided to be a petty rat and pointed out what I missed.
The half-orc rolled again and made the save.
The rest of us love that story, because there’s some poetic justice in it.
Now this next story was based around an idea that’s been around the internet for a bit, that I modified to my needs for the story.
A wizard established a town where its initial townsfolk were constructs that he made, and they were regular people in all respects until the wizard died. The wizard just wanted a family, so the town became his extended family as he watched it grow larger with every year. And he was happy.
When he died, half a dozen townsfolk abruptly turned into iron golems. They were motionless and would remain so until the town was under attack. Then they would spring into action to save the town.
The party was in this town when it happened, and they were curious, but they had some world-saving to do on some islands nearby (getting a MacGuffin). There was also an evil red dragon, that had wanted the area around the town as its lair, but the old wizard kept him at bay for decades.
The party investigated an island that had some sad cyclops that had been reduced to the stone age. They had a nice little society and were able to smith weapons. But then the “oxidation beasts” (rust monsters) came and didn’t kill the cyclops, but destroyed everything of theirs made of metal.
The party was willing to help, though they were concerned about the risk of some of their nicer items. (Note: when I use rust monsters, I always give extra treasure to make up for what was lost.)
But Albert, he ran his cowardly butt back to the boat stayed offshore for the remainder of the session. He couldn’t risk his recently bought magical armor and weapons (which he’d be able to buy again later).
He refused to the point the rest of the party abandoned the cyclops to their plight and I had to toss that session’s planned encounters. I was content to have them go on with the adventure and leave Albert sitting on the boat.
I wasn’t irritated at the party, but I was extremely unhappy with the cowardice of Albert and his supposed hero. A double-digit level paladin afraid of some 0.5 CR monsters that the party could kill from a distance.
I debated booting Albert. I debated having his deity abandon his PC for cowardice.
Then I had a stroke of evil-DM genius. I had not even thought about the rust monsters versus the iron golems when I started the planning, but then I saw a painful opportunity.
While the party was successfully getting the MacGuffin, the red dragon made a deal with the cyclops and put the rust monsters to use.
The dragon made an appearance to the town and activated the iron golems, who ran into a herd of rust monsters released from bamboo cages on the beach. When the golems were gone, the red dragon, the cyclops, and other assorted baddies destroyed the town.
When the party headed back to town, the black smoke warned them something bad had happened. They figured out what happened, felt horrible, and wanted revenge.
Except for Albert. “Sucks to be them. I’m fine.”
And the final straw before I finally booted Albert from the group.
The same party, about a month later, needed one last MacGuffin for their world-saving quest and only one NPC knew where it was – a semi-sane lich who enjoyed taunting the party in evil, Joker-esque ways.
This time he had a carnival and all the party had to do get the clue for the last MacGuffin was to win every game of skill in the carnival in one hour.
I spent hours on preparing the various games of skill the party would have to win, looking at character sheets to ensure the right DCs were set to the right amount of challenge within the time limit.
I was looking forward to this because it wasn’t a “kill the monsters and take its treasure” kind of session. It was supposed to be a little silly and whimsical.
The party was cautiously concerned, but played along up until the point where the lich required them to put all of their magic items in a box so they could not be used during the games.
Most of the party was all “absolutely not”, the loudest being Albert.
And they were right, it could have been a trick to steal their stuff.
A couple of the party were fine with it, because it was different, but I was deflated.
I pushed forward and ensured the party that there was no trick to steal their items.
And Albert still refused because his PC “must wear his armor at all times”. He tried to hide behind a flimsy role-playing excuse of “It’s the way my order is”.
I had hit my braking point. I nearly ended the campaign right then and there.
I had to point out the work I had done for this session and they were taking a giant dump on it because of a coward and his armor.
The carnival went forward, but the fun was robbed from me.
A few days later I booted Albert from the group, took a two-month break from DMing while we played some other games. The newest campaign started at level 1 and the PCs just hit level 17.

2024.06.09 01:17 GodOfSadism Where to get screen professionally buffed?

I’ve an old 1000 and a e1000 I pulled out of strange the other week. Both have light “rainbow” scratches on the screen. I’ve heard people talk about using toothpaste, metal polish, baking soda etc but I’d rather not, especially on the street which doesn’t seem to have replacement faceplates available.
Anyway what kind of store would I take it to? Call around phone repair places? Plastic panel beaters? Please no specific stores (eg. “Mom & pops electronics TX USA”), I’m not sending it to the USA or Europe. Any help would be appreciated.

2024.06.08 23:35 DIY_Forever Matched set update.

Matched set update.
Close up of the new fan shroud around the Spider V3 hotend.
Got the 3DTouch mounted. Plenty of room to route the wiring away from the hotend.
Clean space and filament efficient design. Now I just need to get that mainboard swapped and firmware stabbed in and I should be good to go.
So the new to me second hand G32 printer is here, and assembly and configuration excluding the dual Z is completed. Ran PID tuning on both the hot end and bed, trammed the bed, spent way too long tramming the bed but got it smooth up level, ran an absolutely gorgeous auto mesh, and got the extruder to do its thing. Slammed Mirscoc in it and tried my hand at a custom splash screen. Apparently I did something wrong but will go back and fix that later. Running a print job now, had a hiccup when I printed the display frame so printing a new one. Should be a fast and easy test of the setup.
The original Aquila is being checked and sadly, it is a sick puppy. The new cables are here and it's not the cabling. Mainboard / driver is definately bad. I think I am going to get new to me Aquila at 100% before I rip the innards out of my original. Still need to get some liquid electrical tape anyway.
So for those keeping score.
Original has PEI build sheet, 3D Touch, and Spider V3 hot end, bed handle, vertical screen bracket, display frame, WinSinn LED fans in the hot end and mainbaord housing, Aluminum leveling knobs with heavy duty springs, Ender 3 custom fan shroud, Ender 3 style BLTouch mount, metal extruder direct drive, dual gear extruder, and dual Z. Pending installs are the slot covers, and the 4.2.7 mainboard. Slot covers are being printed on the new to me Aquila as I type...
New to me Aquila has. There is a possibility if not a likelihood I am going to do the 4.2.7 board in this one as well, again to make them match.
The new to me and seemingly working, or at least in testing Aquila mod platform...

2024.06.08 22:43 Cheesypower Building Helping Hands

I became obsessed with the idea of charity groups arriving on Irvrana and helping the Bissem with various things that don't necessarily show up in the big picture- so you know what? I decided to do it myself. Enjoy!
When the news came of aliens being real, it had been a shock- how could anyone in Irvana have seen such an audacious announcement being made by the government? Yet as the news was streamed as these strange beings from the stars appeared before a gathered crowd of reporters, all three of them as different from each other as they were from the Bissem, it was impossible to refute the claims as being some sort of hoax.
For those like Director Guinelle, however, the news was... perhaps less impactful than it was for others- an exciting oddity, to be sure, but the main relevance it had for her life was that it was an effective way of keeping her patients occupied. The children in particular were enamored with the news, fascinated by the sight of such alien beings, chattering amongst both themselves and their caretakers about countless questions, observations, and hopes they held regarding these enigmatic visitors who claimed good intentions.
It made guiding them through physical therapy all the easier- talk of the tall alien with no feathers or fur a ready distraction from movements needed to compensate for a missing flipper or foot. Pain that would have been an obstacle they needed to be pushed through faded with the distraction of the way the quietest alien was covered in quills and barbs- how did one function normally with so many weapons hanging from their back?
Even the adult patients welcomed the distraction- the melancholy of lost mobility and crushed dreams buried under theorizing about what the aliens might actually want, or griping about them being an affront to the gods- though thankfully the crowd of protestors who believed the same about their prosthetics seemed to have found a new target for their demonstrations, appearing outside of public courthouses and official government buildings instead of harassing her doctors and patients with insults and screaming declarations of them stripping their patients of their bissemity and replacing it with metal and machinery.
Their prosthetics didn't even use metal- too prone to rust, and weighed down too much! What limited mobility they could manage to provide for their patients required much lighter plastics and alloys be used!
Anyways, news of aliens quickly faded from her attention as she focused on her work as usual- signing documents, trying her best to continue sweet-talking the groups her hospital relied on for funding, doing her best to remain civil in the face of complaints of money being "wasted" when replacing missing limbs was a fantasy, reviewing potential new patients whenever they came up or got through the paperwork of appealing for a place in her halls, coordinating between the research teams who tried to find new solutions to improve their prosthetics and the doctors who would need to actually implement such changes and make sure they worked for the patient... The work was never-ending, and not well suited to indulging in distractions, even ones as big as Aliens actually existing!
So her current circumstances, sitting nervously inside of an official Lassmin limo speeding through the city streets, escorted by armed guards sat to either side her, with no explanation beyond the statement they'd given when they burst into her office and 'invited' her down to a meeting with a representative from those aliens? Well, it wasn't exactly something she'd been scheduling in advance!
Nervously combing her feathers back into place and ensuring they were evenly coated in just enough oil to give herself a healthy sheen, Guinelle straightened her posture and practiced her best business-deal resting expression as the column of vehicles pulled into the central government building's parking lot. She might not know what the aliens wanted with a specialty hospital director- one of her more 'inventive' patients would probably suggest that she was simply deemed an acceptable sacrifice by her own government. She did her best to quiet that annoyingly intrusive though as she was waddled through the halls, past onlooking groups of bissem turning from whatever they were doing to see what the commotion was about.
"Ah, the woman of the hour!" The mayor's perfect politician tone was a welcome distraction- even if it couldn't completely hide the slight nervous tremor to his words. The vritalian male's more modest stature was ever so slightly raised- he preferred to wear claw-boosters, saying the added height granted him a natural air of authority. Right now though, his demeanor was that of someone who thought they were in trouble but didn't know why- a flipper idly tugging at the ceremonial garnet of office around his neck. "Quite the unexpected series of events, isn't this? Why, aliens within our city- and apparently with a deal to offer! The tabloids ought to have a field day with this once it's announced!"
"That is... an unexpected surprise, indeed!" she slipped into her practiced 'meeting with investors' speaking patterns with ease, giving a socially-acceptable head-bob of polite agreement. "Though, I haven't exactly had it explained why such a... momentous moment requires my own presence? My facility isn't the most prominent industry within the city..."
"Nonsense! Your hospital and it's research are a prize of the city- a statement of our commitment to bettering the lives of our people, even the ones struck with the most unfortunate of circumstances!" The mayor gushed words filled with positivity but little substance- especially when she remembered the last time they had met regarding certain financial grants for their continued operation. "In fact, the aliens seem to have caught notice of your valiant mission, and are interested in cooperation in the pursuit of shared goals, in order to reach a better tomorrow with joined flippers- er, whatever they have! I for one, have no doubt that their contributions will be valued and most beneficial for us all!"
...Those were a lot of words for him to essentially say that he was missing a lot of details too and didn't actually know why the aliens had taken an interest in her facility, but then that was the way of most politicians- fill the conversation with enough noise, and people would focus on the feelings of the statements made rather than the actual substance. Fortunately, she'd long since learned to navigate such methods of obfuscation, though knowing that he was also unaware of their purpose here made that twisting in her gut just a bit more intense.
Thankfully, her worries were temporarily pushed to the side as they were waved into a conference room, where a Selmer was already seated and waiting for them. The trappings draped across her shoulders were adorned with several metals, denoting her as a military officer- though Guinelle wasn't familiar enough with their system of rankings to know exactly how high she must be in the chain of command. The officer looked between the two of them as they moved to take their seats, and nodded in satisfaction as the doors were closed behind them.
"Thank you both for attending so promptly- this situation is rather unprecedented, so there was no time to explain in... unsecured environments. I apologize for any stress that caused you, but we need to move quickly in order to take advantage of this opportunity."
"That's perfectly understandable, ma'am!" the mayor gushed before Guinelle could finish opening her beak- leaving her to carefully close it again as he began to prattle once more. "Time is a resource we never have enough of, especially when it comes to matters of supreme import! Why-"
"As I said," The officer interrupted coolly, "time is of the essence here, so forgive me if I insist on skipping the pleasantries in favor of briefing you both on the situation. That is," she looked directly down at the mayor, his boosters not even close to making up for their natural height difference, "assuming that is agreeable to you, sir mayor?" It did not sound like a question.
Guinelle watched him start to look offended, before settling his expression and leaning back in his seat. "I suppose explanations would be prudent, given the... urgency with which we were summoned."
"Great." Picking up a folder and tapping it on the table, the officer glanced between the two of them and clacked her beak. "The short of it is, we've been approached by an internal group within the aliens- not their government, but some sort of charity organization- which has expressed interest in beginning operations within our nation. Having reviewed the nature of the offer, the government believes this would be a boon worth accepting, should we find someplace willing to accept them. Your facility, Director Guinelle, is a fit for the parameters they requested, and thus we would ask for you to consider their offer, should you choose to hear them out- and for you, sir mayor, to approve of their operations being set up within your city."
"My facility?" Guinelle questioned. "They were interested in our facility above all others? Forgive me, but... we are quite specialized in our purview, and not nearly as advanced as some of the other hospitals even within this city. Is there a reason we were of particular interest to them, miss...?"
"General Kippar," the Selmer clarified, "and it's your specialization that is of interest to them, director. They are offering to provide their own knowledge of the design and production of prosthetic limb technology, and believe your facility would be the best starting point for integrating their advancements with our own efforts- and for what it is worth, we hold that same belief. Your advancements in the field are beyond what anyone else has accomplished, so it is our hope that you will have an easier time adapting whatever they provide for our own use. Though, I hope it is understood that the government is going to wish to receive access to any of the technology they are able to provide."
"That..." pausing for a moment, she thought over what she had just been told- the heady giddiness of potential access to that kind of resources and knowledge temporarily pushed aside as best she could manage in the face of a request for a commitment. "...the information I would be perfectly fine with sharing- we may even produce some official medical journals to release it to the general healthcare community. For hardware though, we cannot offer anything already assigned to a patient, as it would be their property at that point. Perhaps providing working examples unspoken for by a patient yet?"
"Seems reasonable enough," the general nodded crisply. "Though perhaps we should let this alien make their sales-pitch first, before we start counting the fish in our net. If the two of you are ready?" Guinelle nodded eagerly, and the mayor nodded as well- though he seemed to be pouting about being excluded from their previous conversation. Ignoring his ill mood, the general turned to one of the guards and waved a flipper at him, getting a salute in return as he left the room.
Guinelle fluffed her feathers in her seat, the mayor striking up a conversation about permits and such barely registering to her as she grappled with the thought of what was being offered. Alien medical technology, likely beyond anything her people had managed so far- how much would that push their own progress ahead? Had they figured out waterproofing of the joints? Were their prosthetics capable of powered articulation? The best prototypes her own people had managed so far was a replacement leg that provided a steady base and enough flexibility for the patient to walk without needing a cane, even if the battery life of it wasn't great. Just having more advanced batteries would do wonders for giving their patients something so they could move under their own power! She might need to hear this alien out before hashing out the details, but at face value, there was no way should was going to refuse this offer!
Her internal thoughts were interrupted by the door opening, and one of the tall, lanky aliens striding through. Their long limbs bending and swaying as they moved around was fascinating to observe- so different from the normal sway of a bissem's walk, this alien barely shifted to either side at all as they moved! Their unfortunately-bare face brightened as she (was it a she? Their body was different from the male that had been on the videos from first contact) laid eyes on them all, lips pulled apart in a baring of teeth as she pulled alongside the table, pulling out a seat and setting a rectangular carrying box of some sort down beside her.
Her lips began moving, releasing a series of guttural noises from her throat, before a device affixed to her chest crackled to life. "Greetings and good day," the device spoke in perfectly-understandable speech- even bearing a similar tone to the alien's voice! "My name is Lucillia, and on behalf of the Daedalus Initiative, I would like to thank you all for hearing me out and giving us a chance to bring our work to you. While our races have only been in contact for a short time, it is a great pleasure to be working with you towards our mutual mission of ensuring everyone has a chance to live Life Without Limits."
Not speaking their language herself? That made sense- not everyone could learn a new language quickly- especially if it crossed the species barrier. Thank goodness they seemed to have figured out machines that could translate in real-time for them- otherwise this conversation would be much more awkward to parse through.
"That is my hope as well," Guinelle chimed in quickly, noting how the last bit sounded like a practiced slogan. "I'm Director Guinelle, and I run the Prow-Wave Prosthetic Institute, and I'm very interested in getting my flippers on whatever innovations you can offer us to help our patients return to a normal life. I am glad your government chose our facility for the first site to introduce this technology- we'll be sure to get to work right away finding how to adapt any advancements to our own work on limb-replacement."
Whatever response she was expecting, the tall alien tilting her head back and barking out a laugh was certainly not it. "Oh, I am not here on behalf of the UN, my dear- Daedalus Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to relief efforts and providing medical care to those who either don't have access or can't afford the care and resources that they need. If it was up to the UN, this meeting wouldn't be happening, and you wouldn't be seeing hide or hair of this technology for months, much less getting started on it." She gestured energetically with one of her long limbs, the spindly fingers of her hand twitching in a deliberate eye-catching way. "However, I hope you'll agree that spending several months refusing children and patients medical care while politicians play their little games doesn't exactly sit well with me."
"Such games are not without reason, miss Lucillia," the mayor spoke up, sitting up in a professional posture. "While I am willing to accommodate your efforts here, I now find myself worrying if we are causing a diplomatic incident allowing you to set up a facility in my city."
"If we were setting up a facility, then we WOULD be in trouble," she answered quickly, pointing an index finger at the mayor while her thumb was held skyward- some sort of human gesture? "After all, they don't want anybody contaminating culture, especially with a new uplift, and telling them we just want to help people who've already lost limbs doesn't really seem to work. However," her finger swung around to point at Guinelle, "if an EXISTING facility were to request the Daedalus Initiative provide aid, then the SC's charters on charities and relief workers would leave us free to provide as much aid as possible, so long as it is confined to within that existing facility!"
Blinking at the energetic display, Guinelle crossed her flippers in front of her beak, considering the boisterous human as a few missing pieces clicked into place. "Well, that certainly sounds like it would be beneficial for your organization- if such a request was to be made, could you give us some examples of what might be offered to us? I can't imagine you already have prosthetics ready-made for bissem just yet."
"Well, not specifically, but we do have something that should be easy to adjust to the required specifications!" Reaching down into her case, the human pulled out a technological pad, then started fiddling with it as images popped up and scrolled along the screen- what a marvelous piece of technology that would be! Just imagine how much paperwork such a device might be able to replace! "See, we have a species back on Earth called penguins- technically several species, but I digress- and conservation efforts did end up designing some prosthetic flippers for a few members who had lost them due to either predators or human shipping. Obviously adjustments will need to be made, seeing as it's not a perfect comparison- for one thing, your flippers are far more dexterous than a penguin's would be- but I think you can see that the base design is a promising starting point!"
The human slid her dataslate over, and Guinelle picked it up, examining the blueprints she was being shown... and slowly felt her beak falling open at what she was seeing. This... this was something at a level that her engineers thought would be decades away at minimum- full articulation, no cables in need of being plugged in, no external batteries- was that a direct connection to the patient's nervous system?! Did these aliens have that kind of medical technology in such abundance that even charity workers could provide it?! While she was right that this wasn't the full dexterity of a natural bissem flipper, this was still leagues beyond the best tech she could provide to those with deep enough pockets for it- and she was considering this a base model?!
"H-how much are these going to cost us again?" she questioned weakly, the tablet clattering back down onto the table. "Our budget... while we have a decent fund for research and development, this kind of tech..."
"That's the beauty of it! We're a non-profit- and most of our funds come from donations anyways! For this project, we've already arranged the necessary funding in advance- none of this will cost you a dime! Or, whatever currency you use."
"That is... quite generous," The mayor interrupted, tapping the table with a flipper, "though you'll forgive me for asking... are theoreticals all you have to offer? While this all sounds very nice, it's good to have confirmation you can deliver the product offered- or at least something similar, to show you have the capability. That's only fair, yes?"
Something devious sparked to life in the human's eyes. "Oh, that's no trouble at all- I even brought along an example of the product we offer! This model is one I can personally vouch for!"
And with that, she reached up her sleeve, shifting something around... and then pulled her own arm off, setting it down on the table with a thunk- one drowned out by the mayor's terrified shriek as he pushed away from the table, flippers flapping at the air as his chair slowly tipped backwards and crashed into the ground, spilling his flailing form onto the floor.
Guinelle barely managed to keep her own chair balanced, flippers held to her beak as she stared at the detached limb- before jerking her gaze towards the grinning human, who seemed disturbingly nonchalant about being reduced to a single arm. Thankfully, it didn't take too long for her brain to kick back into gear, slowly clicking information into place as she noted the lack of blood, or disturbance, and the fact that she had been asked to present a working model...
"I-I didn't even notice," she stammered, eyes flicking back to the prosthetic on the table. She could see the metallic sheen at the end, with some obvious connectors sticking out... but the rest of the limb looked almost indistinguishable from the human's other limb, which she had blatantly laid on the table for comparison. Gingerly, Guinelle reached out and poked at the smaller digits of the limb, feeling not heavy iron, but some kind of soft, firm material- and the fingers flexing closed with barely any pressure from her touch.
So many tiny joints, so close together, and they'd all been working perfectly- no external power source that she could see, either on the limb or on the human. The way she'd been able to detach it so easily, without any obvious pain. Picking it up, it was surprisingly heavy- a soft material that felt so much like normal skin, so unlike the harsh firmness of their own plastic limbs that she couldn't help but run her flipper along it, marveling at how it gave and flexed so similarly to the real thing. There were differences, now that she looked at it up close- bits that were a bit too angular to be natural, strange spots of firmness where there shouldn't be- but the fact she had to focus to find them, even this close up...
"Pretty good work, right?" the human spoke up, a tinge of pride in her voice- even as the device on her chest clearly began to struggle with the speed at which she began talking, giving a strange echo between her natural speech and the translation. "Not as good as the original obviously, but that model's served me well for about fifteen years now- and it's a decent upgrade from the first one I got fitted with after, well... unfortunate events at my old position." Sitting back up, Lucillia patted at her empty shoulder proudly. "So as you can see, I've got a personal stake in making sure all the prosthetics we provide are the best they can possibly be!"
With shaking flippers, Guinelle pushed the limb back across the table to her. "W-would you mind putting this back on?"
With a knowing smile, the human rolled up her sleeve, exposing an obvious technological port right where her shoulder should be- and with a bit of shuffling, lined up the connectors and pushed it into place, the limb locking in with a solid-sounding click. Dexterous fingers flicked up a panel and pushed a few buttons, then flicked it close as a tiny light came on. Rolling her sleeve back down, the human rolled her reattached arm, making a show of flexing her fingers in sequence before grasping and spreading her entire hand.
"No stutter, no lag, just got to make sure the connection is seated properly, lock it in, and turn it on! Battery lasts for about six hours, and the charging plug is discreet and can fit into any typical electrical port. No pain when it's disconnected either- you basically turn off your connections to the nerves, and it feels more like the arm has gone numb- a bit trippy for the first few months, but certainly better than some alternatives!"
Guinelle felt her chair wobbling beneath her, and chose to simply abandon it, ignoring the clatter as she climbed onto the table and waddled over as fast as she could, eagerly extending a flipper towards the human. "As Director of the Prow-Wave Prosthetics Institute, I am requesting the Daedalus Initiative's aid as quickly as possible. Just tell me what you need from me- anything it takes to get this tech available to my patients as soon as we can!"
"Well, of course there are papers to be signed and filed," Lucillia grinned, the grip of her prosthetic warm and soft as she gripped Guinelle's flipper and shook it, "but once we take care of that, we'll have a ship flying in by the end of the week. I look forward to working with you, Director Guinelle."
"Likewise, Director Lucillia," she beamed, fluffing her feathers in joy. This kind of miracle-tech was going to help so many Bissems!

2024.06.08 22:15 foohbear Nassau Stadium fan experience report (SA-NED)

Just got back from the SA-NED match and thought I would post my experiences with the venue. As a meticulous planner, every detail is helpful, and I wasn't sure what to expect, given the wild variations in accounts from other redditors.
PARKING: Had pre-paid parking at Nassau Coliseum, arrived 75mins before first ball. Many streets closed off with police vehicles and even nose-to-nose dump trucks to prevent VBIEDs. Lots of parking attendants to direct traffic, no problems.
FROM PARKING TO STADIUM: At the pedestrian exit to the parking lot a BIG sign saying NO BAGS ALLOWED. Next to that was the queueing area for the shuttles. We opted for the easy 15 minute walk to the venue, there's a wide path + one lane of the road was fenced off for this purpose.
CHECKPOINT: Arriving at the ticket/security checkpoint, people were instructed to empty all water bottles. So NO BAGS and NO LIQUIDS. I did not explore if there was an option for things like baby formula or medication, so I'm not sure if you could get an exception for that. We were then funneled into a zig-zag. At the end, there were 6-8 metal detectors, and they were directing people to the shortest available lines, which kept individual checkpoints from getting overwhelmed. There were some secondary screening areas behind that for those who beeped or were randomly selected. From the time I left the car to the time I was inside the venue, I never moved slower than a leisurely walking pace.
VENUE SECURITY: VERY heavy police/fire/EMS presence in addition to the venue security staff. Most police were in dress blues, including mounted police. Dozens of TAC teamers spread around the perimeter in battle rattle. Very safe environment.
GETTING AROUND THE FACILITY: Just inside the entrance was a venue map that we found helpful to locate the various facilities (restrooms, food, water, aid station). There were also random greeters and roaming staff who were there to point you in the right direction.
MERCH: The merch tent is on the east side of the venue and had a pretty good selection of gear. Branded items for various nations but ONLY if they had a match at the venue. So no England, no Australia. The shirts were $30-45 and there were lots of different non-country-specific T20WC shirts. They also had keychains, pins, and magnets. Lots of hats, but boy were they pricey ($40+). Weird to pay $35 for a t-shirt and $45 for a hat. However, and there is a fantastic T20WC hat with embroidered logos of every participating nation on it for $50. It was just too sweet to say 'no' to.
FOOD: The venue-run food selection is more than you might think at first glance, there are three different types of venue-run food tents. They look the same, but offer different foods, including some vegetarian items. There's a big cluster of them on the south-east side as well as a 'grab-and-go' tent with cold sandwiches, fruit cups, cotton candy, potato chips, soft drinks, etc. There were over a dozen food trucks scattered around the grounds. Coffee, pretzels, burgers, kebabs, tacos, sandwiches. I don't think you will lack for options.
DRINKS: Firstly, bring an empty water bottle. Don't pay $6.50 for a 16oz water when the water stations are so plentiful. There were full "BAR" tents on each side of the stadium with beer and hard seltzer. There were also smaller tents outside each section/seat passageway, but they had a much smaller selection. 20oz beer cans were $14, which is a bit much for Miller Lite and Coors Light IMHO. If you are a beer person, go find the BAR tents that sell the Coney Island IPA. It's nice.
WATER: Near-ish each restroom is a water station where you can refill your bottle for free with cold water.
RESTROOMS: There is a restroom area outside each corner of the stadium. I used the men's urinal trough, so I can't say about the state of the porta-potties. There were about 20 stalls in each area. There are also field sinks (NON-POTABLE) with hand soap.
STAFF: Everyone was quite pleasant and seemed to be happy to be there, which was nice. The situational response was also very good. A gentleman in front of me started to show signs of heatstroke, so someone notified the usher. Within 90 seconds a venue security guard was there, then a minute later a County police officer, and then like 4 more officers, a police medic, two fire department personnel, and finally the EMT with a medical folding chair and they whisked him away to the air-conditioned medical trailer. It took maybe 5 minutes total, very organized.
RECOMMENDED PREPARATION: Keep in mind: there is no seat that has shade the entire match. Most are in full sun, even the expensive ones. The aid station was busy treating people who were not prepared for this. Here was my "loadout":
  1. A full brim hat to keep sun off ears and neck.
  2. Sunglasses
  3. Small phone charger battery (good 5G coverage, had no issues with signal)
  4. Small tube of SPF 50 sunscreen. If for some reason you forget yours, there is a free sunscreen dispenser attached to the side of the aid station on the east side.
  5. A plastic roll up water bottle (VAPUR brand). I have these for hiking, but you could bring any empty bottle you like and fill it up.
  6. A medium-sized towel - this was probably the MOST helpful item. Head to the water station at drinks break/innings break and soak it, then put it around your neck. It keeps the sun off AND keeps you cool.
It was about 80F and almost ZERO clouds, so I was very happy with this prep. It also fit easily in my pockets - remember, NO BAGS.
ISSUES: I personally had none. The only complaints I was hearing as I walked around was about the ticket situation, which I think everyone agrees was a debacle, and the field conditions, which has been pretty well documented by others. I think they have ironed out the kinks in their planning and execution, and I have confidence that things will be smoother going forward.
CONCLUSION: In all, I had a very pleasant experience. To be fair, the crowd was only a little more than half the capacity, so the lines and ease-of-movement may be wildly different for tomorrow's IND-PAK match.
I hope this is helpful for folks looking to attend one of the remaining four matches at Nassau.

2024.06.08 22:10 SouthParkiscool UPDATE: My friend was being ignored and left out by her main friend group. I regret trying to get answers.

Context
I was shaking, stressing over the idea the girls might break in at any second. Eventually, the police arrived and told us they'd be on the lookout, which eased most of my nerves. Alice and I still needed to hide, though… and for how long was unknown. A couple of hours after the police left, there was a knock on the front door. A male voice echoed in.
“Hello? We have the property secured. May I come in?”
I went over to the door and answered it, relieved help had returned. The officer stood on my welcome mat, with his radio in hand. I took a deep breath.
“Thank you so much for coming. Can you stay for a while?”
“Yes, I will stick around. Because your description of the perpetrators is quite alarming, I've brought backup.”
I sped to Alice’s room, then repeated to her what the officer told me. She sighed in relief, but still had that look of conflict and stress on her face. No matter how much we had discussed her friends, I was still confused as to why they hated her. She has never done anything wrong, as far as I know. This situation was so out of the ordinary. She was always pretty innocent and sweet, so who would act out against her as if she had done something criminal?
The officer was at the kitchen table, speaking into his radio, while Alice and I went over the things she has done that her friends may have mistaken for malice. We couldn't come up with a single thing that would drive anybody to chase after anybody with hammers. Who would be that pressed about someone being unable to hear them? Reading a text wrong? Looking in the wrong place at the wrong time? Eventually, the officer walked over and told us to follow him outside. We put our shoes on, then out we went.
The three of us were mostly silent as we walked along the sidewalk. It was a chill, warm night. So quiet, I could only hear the sounds of our footsteps. At some point, we stepped into a convenience store. The cashier was absent, and there were a few candy wrappers littered across the floor. The officer brought us into one of the isles, then looked us both in the eyes.
“You hear the music playing? That'll be your lesson for tonight.”
It was a rap song about trust. I didn't understand what it had to do with the situation. I didn't understand how what the officer said was supposed to fit in with the atmosphere of this situation. Before I could open my mouth, I heard the front doors. The officer looked over, then stepped away from us. Five girls walked in, all with touque masks and hammers. My heart dropped. The girls stood by each other, left hands resting on their hips as they all stared at Alice and I. Alice gasped.
“Oh my god!”
The officer let out a good laugh, right at our faces. I raised my right brow at him.
“Why are you laughing right now?”
The girls started giggling, but not in any innocent way. The officer shook his head at us.
“You two seriously thought you were safe with me.”
I was confused. Why would a police officer say that? What did he mean? What was he doing? The girl to the far left pointed her hammer at the officer, giggling.
“He's my boyfriend!”
The “officer” took his hat off and let it fall to the ground.
“I need to get out of these clothes. See you later, Sandra.”
It was like my soul turned to ice. All those feelings of assurance and safety were just… the result of a trick. How'd they even do this? What happened to the police we called??? Our safety wasn't real! I looked at Alice, who’s pupils had shrunk and looked less colorful… like the life was taken from her.
“Why…? What are you doing?”
Sandra rolled her eyes. “We got you to come here so we can get you. Did you have fun feeling safe?”
Sandra's boyfriend walked up to the doors, the girls moved out of his way to let him exit. My brows furrowed, I stared at Sarah. “Who's idea was this!? This is cruel and… you shouldn't be doing this stuff!” Sarah, shifting her weight to her right leg, pointed her hammer at herself.
“Mine, actually.”
The girls sprinted towards Alice and I, eyebrows furrowed and hammers pointed at us. I grabbed Alice's shoulder, then turned and sprinted to the back of the store with her. There was a door, but the handle wouldn't budge. My nerves were stinging. Next thing I knew, excruciating pains hit my back and shoulders. The force of multiple hammers brought me to the floor, then one of them struck my right knee. The pain was unbearable. I reached for my knee and let out a scream. Leah grabbed both my hands and held them above my head, then Sarah and Sandra struck both of my knee caps again, making me scream louder than I ever have. They then started scraping my waist with the front of their hammers. Meanwhile, Alice was wailing and screeching. Jessica and Anna weren't holding back, striking every nerve-ending-heavy part of her body once, before scraping her forehead. I could barely do anything other than kick and wail. The only thought on my mind was… “why?” I was then struck in the head, and everything went blurry.
Sometime later, I awoke in an empty room with white brick walls and a metal door with no window. My body was aching from the hits it took, and I was confused as to where I was. The door creaked open. It was Sarah, without her mask, face and long blond hair fully visible. She was holding a jar in her hands and stared into my eyes.
“I brought this… I hope you have fun with it.”
She pointed the jar at me, then twisted the lid off. Shutting her eyes, she turned the jar upside-down, letting a blurry object fall to the floor. It looked odd. It was as if something was able to be given a censor-blur in real life. As I stared at it, my heart dropped, shivers ran down my spine, and my head began to ache. Sarah backed out of the room, shutting the door on her way out. What made this worse was the click of the door being locked. I jumped up, looking at the blurred object as it sat on the concrete floor. I needed out. I picked myself up, ignoring the aching, and stumbled to, then body-slammed, the door. I twisted the handle, hoping I could somehow rip it out. Of course, it was no use. Fear really does things to your confidence, doesn't it?
I was hyperventilating, but then I wondered, why was I so afraid of this? It was an object… it can't move… I sat down facing the door. I was not going to look at that rancid THING. I hated it so much. It was like its purpose was to heighten my fight-or-flight response. Specifically the flight part. I reached into my pocket for my phone. As I pulled it out, I noticed the screen was terribly scratched and cracked. “LOL” had been written on it with mascara. All I could do was throw it at the object, but I would need to look at the object in order to properly aim for it. I buried my head in my arms, hoping I'd at least fall asleep.
Well, I did fall asleep… but I woke up to a painful prickling on my left shoulder, like hundreds of needles were poking me at a time. I looked and saw, up close, the blurry object. It was just sitting on my shoulder… until it moved. Shocked to my soul, I jumped up and ran my shoulder into the wall. The thing fell off and landed by my foot. I went over to grab my phone, then blindly threw it at the thing while turning my head away. The phone made a thump, rather than a crash, so I had to have hit the thing. While catching my breath, the painful prickling returned near the center of my back. My stomach tightening, I took my shirt off, then slammed it to the ground. Luckily, it was covering the object, but I could see a hump moving around. I became disoriented, throwing up on the ground.
I had felt enough fear for enough time to grow frustrated. In a desperate need to get rid of the thing, I took my right foot and stomped the hump again and again and again. I heard a splatter. Once I could feel I had flattened the thing, I stopped. I bent down and gently lifted my shirt until I started seeing a disgusting mush of black, red, and purple, along with a white slime. As disgusting as it was, my adrenaline wasn't rising. However, my shirt had rips and disgusting stains.
The door clicked, then creaked open. My heart skipped a beat. I stood up, hoping to my life it wasn't one of Alice's twisted friends. It was just Alice. Her face flushed, eyes sunken. Her shirt was torn, exposing her stomach and shoulders. She let out a deep sigh.
“What did they do to you?”
I explained everything. She nodded, then squinted.
“They made me eat one.”
I nearly threw up again. “They made you what!?”
“Yeah… Sarah and Sandra tied me up, then Sarah put a tube in my mouth and… and… I can't even…”
I was desperate to know why Alice's friends were doing this. Going to the greatest lengths possible to torment Alice and I…
“Did they do anything else to you?”
“They sat away from me and talked about all the fun things they've done together, along with all the fun things they plan on doing with each other. I tried to talk to them, but they’d barely respond. Then, apparently, Sarah stole my childhood DVD and brought it with her. She stood up and scratched it against the wall while the others giggled and glanced at me.”
“Well… that's cruel… they're horrible people.”
“It was worse that they weren't wearing their touque masks anymore. It was like a casual hang out I wasn't invited to.”
“Did they even passively talk about their problem with you?”
“No, but they would occasionally bring up my name, then go “ew” and “gross” or make a disgusted face.”
Alice did not deserve to go through any of this. I wanted to figure out what her fake friends’ problem was, and even if Alice did something wrong… 1. she'd be the one to apologize and do better. I doubt she'd have done it on purpose… 2. her friends are definitely in the wrong for being violent, impersonating authority, and kidnapping. Why can't people just communicate? Or at least say they don't want to communicate… I told Alice we needed to stay far away from her psychotic excuses for friends. She nodded her head in agreement.
“Definitely. Although, I think one of them was neutral.”
“Neutral means you don't care about the stuff the toxic one is doing. You don't want to cut them off for being toxic, because you don't see that what they're doing is wrong.”
Alice nodded her head in agreement as a woman with long black hair, who looked to be in her 30s, peered into the room.
“Oh my god, are you two alright!? I’m an employee here. I heard there were five girls causing some trouble.” Alice looked at her.
“Yeah! They made me eat a weird bug and socially humiliated me!” The employee nodded her head.
“I see. I'm going to need you two to come with me.”
We followed the employee into the hallway. I couldn't guess where we were. The hallway was just white bricks and grey metal doors along both walls. It didn't help that I couldn't recall how I got here. Every question Alice and I asked was ignored, which meant I had to wait longer for any answers. It couldn't be that long, though… right?
At the end of the hallway, there was a pair of double doors. The employee held one of them open for us, and when we walked through, a pit formed in my stomach. The five psychopaths were standing by each other in the center of an empty lobby, pointing their phones at us. Sarah rested her left hand on her hip.
“Ew, look, it's those sluts!” Sandra flipped back her long black hair.
“They're so gross!”
I looked into the employee's eyes, waiting for her to tell them off. I was hoping she'd curse them out too. She nodded her head left and right.
“These two girls were trespassing on this property and brushing up against male employees without consent. Say what you need to.”
And if my trust in authority hadn't already been obliterated… I looked at Alice to check for her reaction. Her brows were furrowed.
“I know everything about you, by the way. We've been friends for eight years.” Jessica chuckled.
“Oh yeah? We know everything about you too! We still have that video of you being tricked into keying someone's car by being told it was a junk car you could practice your rage on.” The girls chuckled. Alice had a look of determination. Meanwhile, I was shaking. What's about to happen? Did Alice have to say that at this moment? Sarah looked me in the eyes.
“Alexa, you shouldn't be friends with Alice, if you don't want to be dragged into her problems.” I raised my right brow.
“But you're the ones causing the problems! You're torturing Alice… and I… and you aren't giving us any reason!” The girls slid their phones into their pockets, then walked over to me. I was cornered. Even if there weren't six women cornering me, the exit doors were boarded up beyond their frames. There was no immediate way out. Sarah was staring me down.
“You know what, Alexa?” I was sinking.
“What?”
Sarah and Sandra sped up to me, then grabbed me by the arms. I froze, reminded of what went down in the convenience store. Jessica smirked.
“I think we should let Alexa get her words out now.” Sarah giggled.
“I bet she thinks people will believe the bug thing.” Sandra giggled.
“That was the reason we introduced her to the bug, so...”
The employee gave me her phone, then she told me to vocalize every word I type. As I typed this, the girls giggled and rolled their eyes at every moment of fear I recounted. They want me to feel small, but I'm too distrusting of them already. Hopefully this will be settled peacefully and maturely.
