2024.05.16 23:02 scsresearch SCS - strategy for interacting with your SCS MD

I offer the same research feedback to a Reddit user commenting on this post.
https://twitter.com/isSCS4me/status/1747970165189366113
The text below is a strategy for interacting with your PM MD for SCS.
Some PM MDs receive a kickback from the SCS manufacturer. It is legal but
not ethical. Their strategy is SCS or NO pain medication.
SCS is generally agreed to be effective for neuropathic pain(NP), but I am
not convinced. NP is post-surgical nerve injury pain, and treatment options
are challenging. NP will be high on the PM MD recommendation list for
post-surgical patients.
You want the PM practice supplying evidence to justify your SCS implant.
I suggest that you send two portal messages. The first to the PM practice,
requesting for not-industry-sponsored publication supporting SCS for your
pain condition. The other portal message to your PCP explains your portal
message to the PM practice. The one to your PCP is important because your PCP
is your protector! A practice without a portal requires a certified letter.
Your not-industry-sponsored publication request is for unbiased research.
The industry is SCS manufacturers. Studies are biased when industry-funded,
industry-contracted researcher(s), researchers with stock in the industry, etc.
The portal character count is frustrating. I use a PDF attachment when
exceeding the character count.
The PM practice might not respond, but the portal post is part of your medical
record. I recommend printing the information on your computer from the portal;
it is a backup strategy.
The publication might not be free, but do not worry. You want the title and
digital object identifier(DOI). The DOI is guaranteed unique, but the title
is not. Please post one or both as a reply to this Tweet. A friend can Tweet
the information to protect your identity.
I will review the publication and reply with a summary when Google Scholar
provides ten+ citations by SCS research publications. I will purchase your
not-freely accessible publication when it meets the citation count condition;
a freely accessible one is terrific.
A few words of caution. Your PM practice might react harshly vocally.
Feel free to use any part of the above in your portal messages.

2024.05.16 22:38 ThrowRA2002cj Letter of rec from a controversial professor?

I’m planning to apply this fall and as such I’ve started to think about who I want my letter or recommendation from. I think the best letter I could get is from one of my professors who I’ve had class with twice and has heavily influenced my intellectual growth and outlook However, she’s also controversial because she’s very outspokenly pro-Palestine. I personally share her views, but I know a lot of universities have shown themselves to be hostile to the Palestinian cause, and that does make me wonder whether asking her for a letter or recommendation might be a bad idea. Thoughts?

2024.05.16 21:02 Mohamedzouig How Do I Land My First Job as a Web Developer?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to break into the world of web development and could use some advice on how to land my first job. I have a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and I've been working on some personal projects to build my portfolio. I also have experience with ReactJS, SASS, Node.js, and TailwindCSS. Here’s what I’ve done so far: Completed several online courses and tutorials Built a few small websites and projects using ReactJS, SASS, Node.js, and TailwindCSS, which are showcased in my portfolio Created a GitHub account to share my code Joined a couple of web development communities to network and learn from others Actively sharing posts about web development on LinkedIn to build my professional network and visibility Despite all this, I'm finding it challenging to get that first job. Here are some specific questions I have: Portfolio Tips: What should I include in my portfolio to make it stand out, especially with technologies like ReactJS, SASS, Node.js, and TailwindCSS? Any examples of impressive portfolios would be greatly appreciated. Job Search Strategies: Where should I be looking for entry-level web developer positions? Any job boards or websites you recommend? Networking: How can I effectively network with other web developers and potential employers? Resume and Cover Letter: What should I emphasize in my resume and cover letter to highlight my skills and potential despite limited professional experience? Interviews: What should I expect during interviews for web developer roles, and how can I best prepare for them? Any other advice or personal experiences you can share would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions!

Exclusive: How a B.C. student died after overdosing in a Victoria dorm — and the major mistakes her parents say were made that night
Open letter from her mother:
I have worked as an emergency physician in BC for the past 25 years. During every shift that I’ve worked for the past decade, I’ve witnessed the steadily worsening opioid crisis gripping our province. That crisis has now taken my child. https://vancouversun.com/feature/bc-student-overdose-death-university-victoria
I am sending this email as a call to action asking you to help us advocate for change to prevent this from happening to another young person. I am attaching an open letter to Premier David Eby, Bonnie Henry, Health Minister Adrian Dix or you can link to it at www.SidneyShouldBeHere.ca. The letter provides simple, easily achievable recommendations that would help teens and young adults in BC stay safe and save lives.
If you agree with the recommendations in the letter, please email David Eby and your MLA. You can link to our website and find a link to a standardized email www.SidneyShouldBeHere.ca.
On January 23rd, my daughter Sidney and another first year student were poisoned by fentanyl in a dorm at the University of Victoria. Sidney died several days later. Fentanyl may have killed Sidney, but the catastrophic response by the University of Victoria and the 911 operator allowed her to die. Her death was completely preventable. No young, healthy person should die from a witnessed opioid poisoning. As many of you know, naloxone, when given early in an opioid overdose, reverses the effects of the opioid. CPR will keep the recipient alive for the few minutes it takes for naloxone to work. Five very competent, sober students who were motivated to help my daughter had to watch her die as nobody had given them the education and tools to help. Naloxone was not available in the dorm at the University of Victoria. None of the students who witnessed my daughter’s death had ever heard of naloxone. BC is far behind other provinces in ensuring our young people are safe. Easy-to-use nasal naloxone has been free in Ontario and Quebec for 7 years, but not in BC. Unlike other provinces, BC does not make CPR mandatory in its high school curriculum. As a result none of the university students who wanted to help knew how to administer CPR, which would have saved my daughter’s life.
Please share this email and this letter as broadly as you are willing… friends, family, teachers, coworkers, your MLA. If you share this email with people who don’t know me, please remove my email address at the top. People who don’t know me can contact me at sidneyshouldbehere@gmail.com Help us ensure we build a better safety net for young people exposed to fentanyl in BC. Our young people deserve better.

2024.05.16 20:50 Intelligent_Ant_290 From nothingness to sanctity

One day, in the folds of time, a person was born in the city of Marrakesh. They all had many brothers, and they were poor and their condition was miserable and extremely poor. This person, whose name was Ibrahim, worked the entire summer to buy school supplies for the next year, and if his shoes were torn, Or he sewed his clothes, but he had no shoes, so his clothes were worn out and old. Ibrahim’s father was in the service, so he was absent from the house, not being with his family much. Days passed and Ibrahim grew up, so his father gave him two choices: either to go to the Education Academy to study and graduate as a professor, or to enter the service. The military, and this choice was not recommended by the father, Ibrahim, because he did not want his son to go through a difficult experience like him, but Ibrahim had an opinion and was very stubborn, so he chose military service, so he went, and after a few years he graduated with the rank of colonel, and at that time his mother proposed to him, a girl from the neighborhood in which he They lived in it, and at that time he married a son, and after that she became pregnant and they had a son, a male, and they named him Muhammad, and from here our story will begin. Muhammad was an ordinary child, and he studied well and excelled in his studies. He always went to the mosque in order to memorize the Qur’an, and he was not an honest, trustworthy child with good morals. He respected people and never insulted anyone. He was a pure and pure child. As the years passed, Muhammad grew up and took the baccalaureate degree. And all these years, Muhammad was influenced by the Islamic conquests and the personality of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Companions, may God be pleased with them, especially Omar ibn Al-Khattab and Ali bin Abi Talib, so he devoted himself to reading the biography of the Prophet and watching videos whose topics were Islam. The important thing is that we go back and said that Muhammad reached the age of 18 and did not find in Morocco job opportunities or even a good position, so he decided to immigrate to America like other young people, so he was registered in the American lottery and after a few months had passed. Acceptance came to him, and he was very happy because he would find a decent living and a decent life. But in reality, there is something else. The important thing is that Muhammad collected all the documents he would need and applied for the visa. Before and after that, he collected his beliefs and booked the plane ticket. On the night of the flight, he was so excited that he did not sleep a lot, and in the morning. He went to the airport, his parents said goodbye to him, and he went to the plane, and after hours he found himself in America, and the reality was something else. There were many racists, and they always insulted him with the name Muhammad because he idolized the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and they even called the Messenger lustful, and he married Aisha for 6 years. And God forbid, as they curse the honorable companions, may God be pleased with them. The important thing is that Muhammad completed his studies in America and obtained several certificates, so he submitted his application to enter the police because he had just obtained American citizenship. The important thing is that he submitted his application and they approved it, so he took the written and physical test and passed it, so he passed them, and now Muhammad has become An official policeman for the state of Chicago, Muhammad was sincere in his work and dedicated to it. He always did not accept bribery and punished criminals severely. Years passed and Muhammad rose in his position and became in the anti-gang department. He became the one carrying out executions and began killing and exterminating everyone. Killer gangs because the state gives him the decision to kill them because they incite fear in people, kill them, and rape their daughters. Muhammad killed, or rather executed, thousands of people, and he exterminated hundreds of gangs from existence, and all the criminals feared him and were afraid to even mention his important name. Hours passed, and one day of the daysOne day, Muhammad found a volume containing the story of the revolution and the Soviet Union. He read it all and was influenced by revolutionary thought. He began to imagine himself as the king of the world, and he was one of the most supportive of the Palestinian cause. They always sent thousands of dollars to Palestinian associations, and Muhammad was stable even though he was stable. In America, but he hates its corrupt regime and the racism towards foreigners that is abundant in it, so Muhammad decided to go to Russia in order to settle there and submitted his application to Russian intelligence and gave up his service in America, but he still possessed American citizenship. The important thing is that Muhammad worked in Russian intelligence and began every day. It is getting more and more popular and everyone loves it until one day there was a parade for President Vladimir Putin And then Muhammad met President Putin, and Putin liked Muhammad’s personality and the way he treated and respected him, so he decided to hire him as his bodyguard, and Muhammad was very happy with this news. The next day, he started working with the president, and he accompanied him wherever he went. The president was subjected to a series of assassination attempts, and Muhammad was always He was his savior. Meanwhile, Muhammad became a loyal friend of Putin and became Vice President. One day, Putin became seriously ill, and when he was on his deathbed, he said goodbye to Muhammad. Muhammad was very affected by his death, but he moved forward and now he has become the President of the Republic of Russia, so it began. His ambitions to reshape the Soviet Union, so he began to forcefully occupy the countries that were on his side. He did not kill innocent people or women. He implemented the commandments of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, to the letter. At this time, America began to threaten Muhammad that it would occupy Russia and destroy it. Muhammad was aware of this matter and was He planned in advance, as he intended to obey America and eliminate it, and the opportunity came to him. He restored the Soviet Union a hundred times stronger and stronger than it was during the era of Stalin and the other leaders. He only developed the nuclear arsenal and developed advanced weapons, and at this time Muhammad brought his father because He had experience in the army and gave him the position of first commander of the army staff, so his father trained the armyHis father was very strict, and he trained the soldiers very hard, and this would benefit them later. Muhammad also gave his grandfather the position of the chief president of all the central banks in the Soviet Union. He was the state’s accountant. All of the revenues of the Soviet Union passed through Muhammad’s grandfather. He also gave his great uncle the position of governor. He was in charge of all the car factories in the country, so he was in charge of all the car factories and all the companies. He was the president of them and the first factory because he had experience. He also entrusted him with the tasks of building power plants and manufacturing high-precision surveillance cameras. Muhammad gave his middle uncle the position of president of the iron and aluminum mining companies. All types of metal. He also gave his younger uncle the head of the taxi unions, as he is responsible for companies and all taxis and driving licenses for taxis, as well as their taxes. Muhammad also gave his younger uncle the position of head of the Ministry of Education and responsible for all schools in the country, as well as the head of the professors’ body. As he is responsible for the education and study sector, Muhammad also gave his great uncle the position of head of the body of lawyers, judges and courts in the state because his great uncle had more than 20 years of experience in the field. Muhammad also gave his other grandfather the position of head of arms manufacturing and export companies because his grandfather also had In military service, he had a lot of experience in questions, because this is all his specialty in politics Thanks to these positions that he gave to some members of his family, each of whom had great experience in the field in which he specialized, which helped the Soviet Union develop greatly and become stronger and stronger. At that time, Muhammad consulted his Soviet advisors and his father in his capacity as Supreme Commander. And the highest ranks of the army, intelligence, and security in the country. Ibrahim, Muhammad’s father, was the second most important authority in the country after his son Muhammad. The important thing is that after the long Shura period, Muhammad took the appropriate decision, so he bombed Washington, D.C., with a large nuclear bomb, which led to the erasure of Washington from the map and the destruction of the White House, so America rose. He responded with a nuclear missile, but Ibrahim, Muhammad's father, was able to dismantle it, repel it, and turn it towards America. From here, a fierce battle began between the Soviet Union and the United States of America. In the end, the Soviet Union was able to overthrow and eliminate America. It also occupied Canada and South America and brought it back. Alaska to Soviet ruleThe Soviet Union seized all the wealth of North and South America, and even Canada, and annexed them to the Soviet Union. Muhammad rebuilt America on the Soviet system, and even Canada and Brazil. The power of the Soviet Union increased 1,000 times, and the Soviet Union became the most powerful country in the world. Muhammad’s ambitions increased, so he occupied North Korea. He eliminated President Kim Jong-un and also occupied South Korea, Japan, and China. The thing that distinguished Muhammad was not killing innocent people. He only killed those participating in the war, and when he occupied the country, he rebuilt it and employed its citizens with a better salary than they had been, so everyone saluted him. There were also those who hated him, but they were very few. The important thing is that the Soviet Union became from the Republic of Russia to the most powerful country in history. Muhammad also liberated Palestine and gathered all the lions of the world and burned them, slaughtered them, and exterminated them from the globe. Only Muhammad eliminated all the Jews and it was Palestine. It was filled with ululations and joy at her liberation, and all the people were chanting the name Muhammad Muhammad and calling him Muhammad the Savior. Meanwhile, the grandfather of the first and second Muhammad died of old age, so Muhammad became very sad for them. At the funeral, someone poisoned Muhammad’s food with the most severe type of poison, and when he ate it, he choked and died. He almost died, but when he came out of the coma, the doctor told him while he was crying, “The poison has spread through your body, my lord Muhammad. You have only a few days left of your life.” Muhammad began to cry, but he was patient. Then Muhammad made his farewell conference in which he gave a speech and advised the people. When he dies, the rule will pass to his father, and when his father dies, it will pass to his great uncle, and this sequence will remainAfter a few days, Muhammad died and was buried in a grave of gold and diamonds. He became the most important figure in the world, so people began to visit him from all parts of the Soviet Union and even from the Arab countries. Millions of people visited him daily. As for him, when he died, power passed to him and he ruled with justice. Here the story of Muhammad has ended and has been folded between the pages of the past I forgot to mention that Muhammad was fighting with the soldiers, but he was covering his face with a mask so that the opponents would not recognize him and focus on him to kill him. If the president was killed, the Soviet Union would collapse. Muhammad was fighting with the soldiers and killing a lot of the enemy. He and his father were fighting, even though his father He was old, but he was stronger than Muhammad himself. Muhammad’s father was fighting 10 soldiers at the same time and killing them. Muhammad also occupied France, demolished the Eiffel Tower, and occupied almost all of Europe. Muhammad donated billions of dollars to Palestine until Palestine became very advanced and became a more ornate city. Muhammad also occupied Iran and exterminated the extremist Shiites. The one who poisoned Muhammad was a black man from Ethiopia, and the soldiers shot him dead when Muhammad died. Also, Muhammad could also have eliminated Morocco and wiped it from the map, but Muhammad did not want to do that out of respect for the Almoravids, Almohads, and Idrisids. When Muhammad died, power passed to his father and he began to rule the world. Muhammad’s tomb, built of pure gold and all precious stones, became a place of pilgrimage for millions of people every day, to the point that airports were filled with people and thousands of people were lining up in queues to obtain a visa. There were also thousands of people in the street chanting the name of Muhammad the Leader. The great and even they are queuing up to go to the Soviet capital, as there are people from far away places in the world such as Australia who go to the Soviet capital to visit the grave of Muhammad, and he was the most important and holiest person in the world after the Prophet Muhammad. And his companions, I am talking about his military clothes and weapons, all of them were sold for millions of dollars to Arab museums. As for the Soviet museums, they contain Muhammad’s necklace and his favorite weapon, and even the Soviet museum is crowded with people every day just to see its antiquities. Mohammed. Everyone loved him, so Muhammad became the second legend that history will not repeat. The first legend is the Prophet MuhammadWhen Muhammad died, they wrapped him in very advanced materials to prevent his body from decomposing. Muhammad's body did not decompose, but remained as it was. One of the materials used to preserve Muhammad's body was formalin, so Muhammad's body remained intact throughout the years. There are also some very wealthy Arabs who wanted to move Muhammad’s grave from the Soviet Union to Mecca in order to increase the state’s economy, but the entire world, billions of people, categorically refused, whether from within the Soviet Union or from outside it, and they wanted to buy his body for billions of dollars, but the entire world categorically refused. A wave of anger has erupted against Saudi Arabia because of this, because a person like Muhammad cannot be violated and his grave opened When Muhammad's father, Ibrahim, assumed power, and due to his old age, he was 61 years old. He found many difficulties because he found himself facing a great challenge in front of him, ruling millions of people. The Soviet Union, during Muhammad's era, was at the height of its power. He had sat on the throne of the most powerful country in history. Only the area of the Soviet Union was estimated at 400 million kilometers, so Ibrahim had to make a lot of effort, and in some of the Union’s colonies, some civil wars broke out between supporters of Muhammad and his supporters and among those who hated him, as most of those who hated Muhammad were from Central Europe, from the Greek islands and elsewhere. Next to it was the leader of the movement named Johann Gospiel. The latter sought revenge on Muhammad’s followers, and they all wanted to kill Ibrahim and destroy the Soviet Union. He was very hateful, and events will show you why the latter was so hateful of Muhammad and the main family. We will go back in time a little to when Muhammad committed mischief. America and occupied North and South Korea. His ambitions began in Europe, and he started with Italy, so he overthrew it, even though he respected Mussolini, the Italian fascist leader, but Muhammad’s ambitions were to occupy all of Europe, so he occupied Italy, eliminated its leader, and demolished all the ancient Roman idols and gods, and when he headed to occupy the Vatican. Muhammad remembered the words of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, at the sign of the Hour, that in the Vatican there is the staff of Moses and the Thapoth of the Covenant, according to what the commentators and hadith scholars say, so Muhammad retreated. With his army, he went to occupy Greece and wanted to destroy Athens. He met the other army, headed by Johann Gaspiel's brother, called Nicholas Gaspiel. The two armies faced each other. Nicholas' army consisted of 45,000 tanks, a fleet of planes, and 980,000 soldiers, while Muhammad had 60,000 tanks. 2 million soldiers, and the two armies faced each other at the famous Evros River in Greece. The war began, and it was so bloody that the Evros River was filled to the brim with corpses and its color became red with blood. Muhammad was killing the enemies, and his father Ibrahim was also fighting, as he was 51 years old and he was very strong. Stronger than Muhammad himself. The important thing was that Muhammad was fighting. He tore off his mask. Nicholas the commander saw him and said: Here you are, Muhammad. I swear to Zeus, Poseidon, and Athena that you will not survive today. Medusa's curse will fall on you. Today I will hang your head before the gods. Muhammad did not answer him verbally, so his response was to arrest him, cut off his head, and hang his body on a treeThey continued fighting for several hours, and Muhammad was able to eliminate the entire army and occupied Greece at five in the morning. He prayed dawn in the city and began his entry with the soldiers. 200,000 soldiers had died in the war. Muhammad made a broadcast on television and consoled all the families and gave them a salary. For life and huge sums of money. The important thing is that Muhammad passed by the fields and saw some peasants. When they saw him, one of them called out and said, “Where is Muhammad?” Muhammad said to him, “Here is Muhammad.” The man came to him and hugged him and said, “O Muhammad, we have been saved from a tyrant who was torturing us and making our lives miserable.” Nicholas Gaspiel) and gave Muhammad some apples and lemons, so Muhammad bought 300 cows from him and the soldiers slaughtered them, so they ate until their stomachs were full and they slept that night while Muhammad was standing praying. This is just going back in time to explain to you why Johann Gaspial hates Muhammad.Johann Gaspel was telling his experience when he saw Muhammad and saying when Muhammad conquered all of Greece, and the people were chanting his name. I said that Muhammad was not killing ordinary citizens and women because he was carrying out the orders of the Prophet Muhammad and his law of war. Johan Gaspel was 12 years old. He said: “I saw large crowds chanting the name of Muhammad, then I was looking out the window, and suddenly I saw Muhammad passing in front of me and hundreds of thousands of people.” Behind him were hundreds of thousands of soldiers armed with the most modern weapons in the world. He said that Muhammad was strong, broad-chested, not more than 180 centimeters tall, and had a black beard, black hair, and brown eyes. Dark brown, and when Johann saw him, he felt an unusual tremor and said that Muhammad was a person that everyone feared

2024.05.16 20:21 zoey77_ Writing the O1 application: How was your experience?

Hi :) I’m looking for someone who would share some insight on how they worked on their application for the O1.
Meaning, the recommendation letters, citations, press list, detailed descriptions of your CV…
I know it takes time but that’s not my issue in this case. I’m just curious too see how it was for others to prepare all that, was it difficult to get recommendation letters and to receive a job offer? My plan is to file one with an agent (not an employer), talked to an attorney and he said I qualify for it and can get started with the application. But I’m still nervous about the process itself and whether I’ll have enough to be approved.
I think it stems from a friend who was super stressed out about it for months and ended up writing 400 pages that he submitted. How many pages did you have in the end? Is that normal?
So yeah I would appreciate any insight and advice! Thank you :)

about me: Poly student from nyp (gpa 3.45), only join in SHSS club as a member but instead joined in more events/camps throughout poly.
Has/had multiple part time jobs while studying. Started volunteering regularly since feb 2024
context: applied for NUS nursing only as i would only want to be in nursing in the future, saw no pojnt in applying for other courses.
did not get any interviews -> no news until rejection tdy.
re: SIT nursing, did not complete application in time before deadline. therefore, not possible.
currently decision:
appeal if not succesful -> gap year, build portfolio and try 2025 again for both nus and sit this time.
if i still am reject by then -> will just work and get a degree in the future instead (not vv worried about lacking behind and waiting)
Questions: 1) Would testimonials or recommendation letters help with appeal? (thinking of attaching in email to NUS separately)
2) Would it be better to start working in a hospital full time with my diploma then quit if i get accepted next year?
3) Join hospital as a locum nurse and do more passion projects relating to nursing?
4) What are my chances of successful appeal if i did not go through the interview?
5) anyone got a lower gpa (<3.4) but got an interview offer? (want to see if my write up was the problem instead)
any advice is appreciated :”) thank you in advance

2024.05.16 20:08 Desperate_Speaker753 Tips for Applying for MCAT Accommodations, from someone with ADHD & Approval for Standard Time + 50% and more.

For anyone who feels lost trying to apply for accommodations on the MCAT, you are not alone! I will try to keep this short with as much information as possible. Please feel free to DM me with any personal questions!
Accommodation History
First MCAT Attempt - Normal Timing
I took the MCAT with no accommodations on 6/17/23. I scored below 500 (which was not consistent with my practice exams, but I remember being extremely nervous on test day, really running out of time, and only being able to guess on the math questions because I had no time to attempt them).
Reasons For Not Originally Attempting To Apply For Accommodations:
AAMC requires a neuropsych eval that has not expired within 4 years. My eval had just expired. It is pretty expensive and time consuming to get this done.
Didn't want to spend the time and money on a new neuropsych eval.
AAMC accommodation process seemed tedious and intimidating. I almost felt like I would be using my time better by studying for the MCAT instead of working on the application.
The stigma surrounding ADHD/receiving extra time on tests - I think I wanted to try to "overcome" my disability because of the fear of being judged..Especially when thinking about how doctors don't receive extra time in the real world. However, I can confidently say that there is no reason to feel judged for finding what works best for you as an individual and as a test taker, especially in order to "level the playing field". And we all know the MCAT is not comparable to real life emergency situations.
Important Resources/Documents I Submitted When Applying for Accommodations:
What I applied for (Applied on 10/24/23):
First Decision Received by AAMC: (11/28/23)
Wrote a Reconsideration Letter on behalf of myself & had my evaluator write a reconsideration letter.
Submitted this reconsideration letter on 12/22/23
Received Final Decision & Approval of What I Initially requested on 01/20/24.
This was a really long post and an extremely long journey. While I am extremely grateful that I have all these resources to share with you, I acknowledge that every situation is different. Please don't give up if you truly feel you deserve certain accommodations. The MCAT does not define you!
Good Luck & feel free to message me with any questions!!

2024.05.16 19:48 Anonymous7215 I Changed my College Major

I started my first year of college as an Architecture Major. I regretted it and changed my major. I feel that my parents are disappointed with me now.
Before enrolling into the current college I am now, my mother told me I could choose any college I wanted to go to. So, I decided to apply to a college that is three hours away from home but it is thirty minutes away from my aunt's house. My plan was to live with my aunt until I graduate. I wanted to go somewhere new and experience new things. I started getting my recommendation letters required in order to be accepted into the school and filled out the application. When I told my mom I was ready to send everything in she told me to not apply there. I asked her why but she said why did I want to go so far but I told her that she allowed to me enroll to any school I wanted. She denied it and said why did I want to go so far away from her. She told me that I will not be applying there and to enroll in another school. She also told me I was leaving her to go off on my own. I felt upset and lied to about letting me a choice and the fact that my mom let me dictate where I had to go.
I enrolled in the college I am now as an Architecture major. My mom was excited and kept fantasizing about how I will build her dream house. My first semester went well so far but I struggled with doing the work and honestly I lost all passion for it. My second semester, I just shut down and stopped doing work for the class and stopped attending some of the classes. I really didn't enjoy it as I used to and it was stressing me out. I started to have panic attacks and chest pains. This has led me unable to drive as well. My mom took me to the doctor and that is when I broke down and told her everything. I cried and she cried but she told me that I if I didn't like it anymore I could change my major. I tried to do it for her but I failed the class and I decided to change my major. When I told my mom about this, she looked at me and told me why I did this. I told her I didn't like Architecture anymore and that it was stressful for me. She told me what is the point in going to college anymore if I failed already. I honestly saw the disappointed look in her eyes that told me she thought of me as a failure.
From that moment, I really don't know what do anymore. I recently decided to be a business major because that was something that I was more interested in before Architecture. When I later tried again to talk to my mom about this she had this uninterested look on her face and said whatever. I have decided to just stop telling my parents everything about school. This really made me think about what should I do for my future. I have thought of ending it all. I think that my parents wouldn't care at all and it wouldn't make a difference because they have another child who is more talented than me and already has a career path in mind. As for me, I am the child that hugely disappointed them. They say they care about me but I know that is a lie. Imagine being told that I am a disturbance, that I am worthless, or that I am the sibling they never wanted. Well, that is what my family has told me. When confronted about this, they turn the other way or deny that they even say this. I really don't care anymore and I want to do something that makes not only make them happy but also me happy. I want to be happy for once.

2024.05.16 19:41 JawKneePlays How to Backup your Saves with Powershell and Scheduled Tasks

There was a thread earlier today about people quitting because of BS deaths and I, like some others, have a Powershell script to backup Saves for such a scenario. I put my script in a comment but thought maybe some people would like a full post on how this is achieved.
PS: Someone mentioned wanting to give me a Reddit award for my comment, but obviously awards are gone. So instead, maybe consider following me on Twitch, JawKneePlays. Thanks
I took this Backup Script from someone else and modified it, but I can't remember who the original author is to credit them.
Pre-Warning: Do this at your own risk. I WILL NOT take responsibility for any issues this causes nor will I fix individual issues. If there are questions on what the script is doing etc, then I'm happy to answer.
  1. Create the Powershell script file (We're using Powershell ISE because everyone will have it installed with Windows)
    1. Open Powershell ISE
    2. Copy the SCRIPT BLOCK below and paste this into the ISE (SCROLL DOWN THIS POST)
    3. Modify these variables to suit you
      1. $SourcePath = "C:\Users\$user\Zomboid\Saves"
      2. $BkupVolumeLabel = "Games"
      3. $RetentionDays = 2
    4. Save the file and name it whatever you want and where you want
      1. Mine is: "D:\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\Scripts\BACKUP_SCRIPTS\ProjectZomboid_Backup.ps1"
      2. NOT REQUIRED BUT: If you don't have a "*\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\" directory and want one, follow this to create a Powershell profile.
  2. Create the Scheduled Task
    1. Open Task Scheduler
    2. Right Click the "Task Scheduler Library" folder and Select "New Task"
      1. In the General tab, give the Task a Name
      2. In the Triggers tab, Select "New" and configure the Schedule how you see fit
      3. In the Actions tab, Select "New"
      4. Select "OK" and you're ready to run the task to test it works
  3. Restoring the Files
    1. This is a simple Delete the current folder and replace it with your backup folder
    2. If you're afraid of losing your data, I would recommend renaming the current folder from "saves" to "saves.old" and then copying your backup up folder. That way you can delete the backup if it's not what you want or it fails and you can go back to the previous state by renaming the folder back to "saves". It's just worth doing once or twice before you commit to using the backup files
  4. That should be everything covered. If anyone notices an issue with the write up, or has any suggestions for myself or others, chime in!
SCRIPT BLOCK (COPY EVERYTHING BELOW THIS LINE INTO YOUR ISE AND SAVE IT AS A ".PS1" FILE) <#
This script takes a backup copy of an entire folder and puts it on a dedicated backup drive.
It is recommended to use an external hard drive for this backup.
To correctly use this script, be sure that you format each backup drive with the $BkupVolumeLabel keyword in the Volume Label.
To run the script automatically:
Schedule a task to run program powershell.exe with the argument:
-executionpolicy Bypass -file "[insert path to script file here]"
Schedule to run as often as you would like to make a backup.
Change $user below to your PC user name (look at the directory if you don't know)

>

$SourcePath = "C:\Users\$user\Zomboid\Saves"
$BkupVolumeLabel = "Games"
$RetentionDays = 2

# I WILL TAKE IT FROM HERE!

$Date = Get-Date -Format "yyyy MMM dd hhmm tt"
$BackupDrives = (Get-Volume Where-Object {$_.FileSystemLabel -like "*$BkupVolumeLabel*"}).DriveLetter
ForEach ($Drive in $BackupDrives) {
$Letter = "$Drive" + ":\"
$Destination = "$Letter" + (Get-Item -Path $SourcePath).Parent.Name + "\" + (Get-Item -Path $SourcePath).Name
IF (-not (Test-Path -Path $Destination)) {
New-Item -Path $Destination -ItemType Directory
}
Copy-Item -Path $SourcePath -Destination "$Destination\$date" -Recurse
Get-ChildItem -Path $Destination Where-Object {$_.CreationTime -lt ((Get-Date).AddDays( - $RetentionDays))} Remove-Item -Force -Recurse
}

$Error > C:\users\public\desktop\BackupErrors.txt #Remove leading # if you need error information for failed backups.

2024.05.16 19:16 zangetSU05 Swiss Visa approved from India 15 days tourist

Timeline: 8th May- appointment (last slot of the day) 9th May - application transferred from Bangalore to Delhi 10th May - application reached Embassy in Delhi 11th and 12th weekend 14th May - end of the day received information that visas have been dispatched (late evening) 16th May - received the passports with visa
Note: - our first Schengen on a new (renewed) passports - not a very strong past history of international travel but we followed strict adherence to the documents listed in the application - we had asked for a single entry visa as we had learned that single entry visa is a better option for first Schengen but we got a multiple entry - VFS was smooth for the most part. If you’re applying as a family (husband wife in our case with our passports carrying this info), we didn’t need to attach each other’s documents. We had carried the prints but the VFS person removed it saying that it’s not needed for family. While our applications were different they were placed in the same folder and treated as one. - in case you want separate updates, make sure to sign two forms at the counter. We had opted for the courier and SMS for the both of us and in the form we had mentioned both of our numbers and email IDs but only the primary applicant was getting notified (though it was for both). Just thought of highlighting it here. - If your documents are sorted, you can skip the premium service. The wait time was hardly anything - VFS had increased the SMS service and courier price so while we had paid for them during the appointment booking, we had to pay more at the counter. - also it worked for some people but for us neither the application number nor the passport number worked as a reference to check on BlueDart’s website so eventually we had to call VFS to share the AWB no which they very kindly did
I would highly recommend keeping your itinerary simple and concise and support that with your accommodation. When we were preparing the itinerary, we worked towards making it the final draft. Most people I spoke with said that it’s common to cancel everything once you get the visa and replan the itinerary but we neither had the patience nor the willingness to run into any issues, considering the scenarios at the border authority. And I can’t say for sure but keeping it to just one country also helped in the quick response.
Open for questions (except cover letter format as that has been shared many times in this group and I also used the same)
Happy travelling!

2024.05.16 19:01 Ok_Tradition9445 Laid off recommendation letter

I’ve recently been laid off due to company performance and they’ve offered to write a letter of recommendation. Despite them giving me a month notice of termination, I’ve decided not to immediately start the job hunt and enjoy some time without working. Is it a thing to get a general recommendation letter to use for future jobs applications? I’m not even sure how to request a letter but I would think it would be awkward to request one in the fall for example when I’ve been laid off since spring.

2024.05.16 18:59 AssignmentCapital716 Moving to PA or stay in AZ

I need some advice. My bf got a promotion at his job, it's in Pennsylvania, we currently reside in AZ. He's going to be making double of what I currently make. He wants me to go with him, he said I don't have to work if I don't want to. I have a daughter, he's willing to let me be a stay at home mother, he just wants me to cook and clean, and take care of the home. He's making it sound so easy and it makes me uncomfortable. I have about 4k in credit card debt, a new car I barely financed 10 months ago, it's a huge car payment. He says he can cover it all, but I don't think it's realistic. I currently have an amazing job here in az. My job has an employee discount for childcare so I'm paying for full time child care $200 a month, while others pay over $1,000. My child also has autism, which the job I work for is an autism therapy place, so she gets ABA therapy there. My benefits are better than most peoples I've noticed. My job is very flexible with me, I can work remotely sometimes but tend to be in office since my child is down the street in the main building where the school is at. My job said they can't offer me to work remotely in Pennsylvania due to some Tax regulations. It would be too much of a hassle for them to accommodate. I've been with them for 3 years, my career was born here, I know at some time I need to move on, I don't think I'm just that ready yet. My superiors tell me I should be confident and can easily get a higher paying job at another company as long as I don't stay in a nonprofit organization. My manager and coworkers are more than willing to write letter of recommendations for me, not sure if that's even looked at anymore for other jobs. I'm a good worker, I'm just not good with interviews and 1:1 talks. So getting a new job would definitely be rough in the interview process.
If I stay in AZ, I'll have to figure out my living arrangements, maybe getting stuck at my mom's place which is already full from my siblings. My sister is unbearable to live with. I really hate the heat here, I can't stand it, but I'm used to it so what's another couples years of it.
I guess comes down to, if I move to PA it would be out of 'love' for my bf and for the benefits of someone else paying bills while I just get to cook, clean, take care of my daughter until she's ready for public school. It just seems wrong to go for the benefits. I do appreciate my bf, he's a good guy, I just don't want to take advantage of him if It takes too long to find another job.
Very random but keeps me awake at night, idk if PA has a huge racist problem or not, I couldn't find much online. My bf and child are lightskin, but I am pretty brown, I can pass a native American with my browness. Ive never really experienced rude racism in AZ. AZ racist peeps tend to just give a look or ignore, but based from social media other places can be very mean. So I'm worried about that.
This is kinda all over the place. I'm very indecisive and just need advice from people who aren't in my biased family and friends circle.

2024.05.16 17:53 PinkamenaDP Last time I had wisdom teeth removed, there was no Reddit. I had to freak out all alone!

I, a 45 yo female, had my bottom two impacted wisdom teeth removed in the mid '90's around the time of my braces treatment. I don't remember much about it other than waking up during the surgery, to loud radio music, the surgeon and nurses talking and laughing, and a couple of cuss words amongst their conversation. Then I blacked back out. I also remember having an allergic reaction to either the pain med or the antibiotic, but since I was taking both, I don't know which one caused the reaction.
When I had the first surgery, there was no reddit, no widely used internet. I had no one to advise me, other than my surgeon and orthodontists' offices, which I of course didn't spam them with my fears, I just followed their post-surgery instructions to the letter. There were no other young adults around me having their wisdom teeth removed. My parents and other family had had theirs out two decades earlier. I was seemingly all alone and freaking out about whether I was healing normally.
Fast forward to 6 days ago, I had my upper wisdom teeth extracted. They'd erupted long back with the lower ones, and were fully grown in. In fact, they'd been in so long, that with no lower teeth underneath them, there was no opposing force to keep them from moving slowly down further and further. My dentist told me they may stop moving downward, or they may eventually start to touch my bottom jaw bone, and when that happens, I'd definitely need to have them removed. He recommended it 12 years ago when I first started seeing him, because he said all they do is catch bacteria and start to decay. But I held firm that as long as they weren't causing problems, I didn't want to go through another surgery. I was able enjoy to not worrying about dry socket for 25 years since they erupted. Until this year when they both developed small cavities.
Now, here I was, this week terrified of getting dry socket. Everything was a breeze up until day 3 when my pain gradually got worse, and I just about freaked out. I started re-reading my current post-op instructions, reading every dental website I could find, and I came into this sub. I was convinced my blood clots just didn't form at all (because nothing had fallen out). All of my fears were being laid out by other people every hour of the day. I got plenty of answers and personal experiences to help me relax and realize that if I'd developed dry socket, I would KNOW IT.
I found out that days 3 and 4, or for some people 4 and 5, are the worst for pain, and that it can take up to 48 hours for anaesthesia to be processed fully out of the body. No wonder days 1 and 2 were such a breeze. I was very worried that at my "advanced age" (although 45 isn't old!), I might have a more difficult healing period.
So far, so good. I'm on day 6 and seeing the swelling in the sockets finally reduced to where I can see in the holes, and I can see the last remnants of the blood clots in both of them now. I'm taking my ibuprofen 3x a day. Sleeping well. Eating mashed potatoes, apple sauce, strawberry shakes, yogurt. So far, my healing is right on schedule.
Just want to let everyone know I think it's really great that we have so much information online to refer to, to find comfort, see pictures, to get our questions answered. Take the positive stories that you read here to heart. Yes, it's scary. Try to relax, follow your instructions, and consult your surgeon or dentist with any problems for the answers that fit you specifically, because they really are the ones you need to be ACTUALLY listening to. But geez it is so amazing to have this sub!! Best of luck to all of those going through this now and in the future. Happy healing!
There's a great informational website called Animated-Teeth that I read over and over all weekend long.

2024.05.16 17:47 Old_Meringue3336 Grant Ran Out and I was not Informed

I am a graduate student and a researcher who has been working on this research project for around a year as an independent contractor. Around November, my payments started to be delayed. As of now, my last payment for my work was in January. I have been sending invoices and been told that they are “working on it.” This week, I was informed that the grant paying my salary ran out in January, and that they still have to “rearrange the budget” in order to pay me.
It’s been 3 months without payments. What can I do to either speed up the process or even ensure that I get paid? I would love to resolve this issue without alienating my supervisors as I was hoping that I could secure a letter of recommendation. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

2024.05.16 16:47 HRJafael Five Points Project, trash disposal on Athol Town Meeting warrant

Five Points Project, trash disposal on Athol Town Meeting warrant
The Finance and Warrant Advisory Committee met Tuesday evening to review the 34-article warrant which will be decided on by the voters at the June 10 Annual Town Meeting. While the committee voted to recommend passage of 33 articles, it delayed a vote on Town Manager Shaun Suhoski’s proposed $28.8 million spending package for FY25. Members wanted another week to review the budget in detail before discussing it with Suhoski.
While most items generated little discussion, some committee members had questions regarding Article 29, which asks voters to approve spending $100,000 from free cash to “augment funds previously voted to acquire land, or temporary or permanent easements” to facilitate what the Five Points Project. The project will reconfigure the intersection that includes Crescent and Bridge streets and Chestnut Hill Avenue and include infrastructure improvements on several side streets in that area.
“As you all know, the town of Athol has been working on that…Five Points Project since about 2017, just before I got here,” Public Works Director Dick Kilhart told the committee. “We’re at the point on the process where this project will advertise for bids by MassDOT on June 29 of this year. One of the last steps in that process is to have those parcels, whether they’re temporary easements or permanent easements.”
Kilhart said that there are some 47 easements in total that need to be secured for the project. He added that MassDOT sent a letter to those property owners from which the town is seeking an easement or easements.
“We’ve had six or seven property owners suggest that they would donate (the easement) back to the town,” he added. “They don’t have to, but we’ve had a handful say they would.” Kilhart added that the contract for undertaking the $9.7 million project will likely be awarded this August, with construction set to begin next spring. The entire cost is being paid for with federal funds.
Another article drew some attention was Article 16, which establishes an FY25 budget for the town’s transfer station of just over $835,000. That figure represents an increase of nearly 44% over the current fiscal year’s budget.
“The transfer station has been running modest deficits for a couple of years,” Suhoski explained. “What’s happened is in the last couple of years the hauling costs have skyrocketed, and we’re updating our fees and raising our fees, but it’s always a year late and a dollar short. So this fiscal year we’re in (FY24), we raised the rates earlier in the year to get ahead of it, and we are. We appear to be around break-even.”
At a Special Town Meeting to be held right before the Annual Town Meeting, Suhoski said the plan is to increase the current transfer station budget by $200,000 in order to erase the deficit resulting from the increased disposal and hauling costs.
“It will be within our revenue” he said. “Then this (FY25) budget is built on that; it resets the budget to the current contract and the projected increases in our hauling contract with WIN (Waste Innovations of North Billerica) for next year, then we’ll re-bid it for fiscal ‘26.” The committee voted to recommend passage of the proposed FY25 budget for the public works, transfer and recycling division, along with a $1.3 million budget for the water division and a nearly $1.6 million spending package for the sewer division.
The FWAC will put the remainder of the town’s FY25 budget - $25.1 million – under a microscope next week. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 23, 5:30 p.m. in room 21 of the town hall.

2024.05.16 16:15 Ur_Anemone ‘Tradwife’ Content Isn’t Really for Women. It’s for Men Who Want Submissive Wives.

‘Tradwife’ Content Isn’t Really for Women. It’s for Men Who Want Submissive Wives.
…For the uninitiated, “A tradwife (short for traditional wife) is a woman,” typically a conservative Christian, “who prefers to take a traditional or ultratraditional role in marriage, including the belief that a woman’s place is in the home,” according to one of the genre’s more popular creators. These conventionally pretty influencers depict themselves cooking elaborate meals, tending to their children and doing housework. Their posts sometimes come with florid captions about the joy and freedom that come from submitting to their husbands, because biblical submission doesn’t connote inferiority. They tend to dress either in 1950s cosplay or barefoot in gauzy, long dresses.
The whole discussion can be a trap because the content itself is meant to be a heightened provocation — some tradwife creators post things that they label as triggering opinions and then say they get so much hate for being stay-at-home moms. But they rely on that dissonance in order to create more engagement (which leads to more clicks and more money).
These posts have a way of painting feminists as haters who resist their true nature and casting career women in opposition to women who don’t work for pay. The reality is that stay-at-home moms and working moms are frequently just the same people at different points in their lives and that content creation is a paying job: My favorite example of this is the tradwife pitching a $5,900 set of courses on how to be a tradwife.
Further, there are tons of reasons any parent might opt to stay home that don’t require buying into tradwife values: Work isn’t always satisfying or well paid, some people want to spend a majority of their time with their kids, and child care is so expensive that it can push a lower-earning parent out of the labor market, to name a few. And as an avowed lover of #cleantok, I have no problem with content about household tasks, but that’s separate from what the tradwives are often cynically pushing. When people criticize the way tradwives troll, they’re very likely to respond that their detractors simply don’t value the hard work of raising children and running a household — when many of their critics value that work tremendously and do it themselves.
That said, I’m not particularly concerned that young women watching TikTok are going to be so influenced by this content that they’ll start fleeing the secular world en masse to submit to their husbands, live on farms and bake aesthetic pies. That’s because young women are increasingly rejecting this specific kind of domestic arrangement.
According to a November 2023 survey from the Survey Center on American Life at the American Enterprise Institute, 61 percent of Gen Z women said they considered themselves feminists, the highest percentage of any generation. And as the Survey Center’s Daniel A. Cox and Kelsey Eyre Hammond explained in April, “Young women are leaving church in unprecedented numbers,” partly because they “are more concerned about the unequal treatment of women in American society and are more suspicious of institutions that uphold traditional social arrangements.” Women are outpacing men in terms of college graduation rates, and prime-age women’s labor force participation is even greater than it was before the Covid pandemic.
Still, some tradwife creators appear to be popular if you look at their follower counts, and they certainly generate a lot of chatter. But I often think: Who is this content really for? Sure, some portion of their followers are probably like-minded women, but a new study from Media Matters made me wonder if the tradwife’s main audience is actually right-leaning men:
Media Matters coded and analyzed 327 recommended videos after exclusively interacting with tradwife content and documented what happened. We found TikTok’s recommendation algorithm rapidly populated our F.Y.P. [For You page] with conspiracy theory content and fearmongering, which made up nearly one-third of all videos served to the F.Y.P.
After interaction with tradwives, the study found, TikTok’s recommendation algorithm also served up “19 videos featuring extremist right-wing media figures,” such as Alex Jones and Nick Fuentes.
(A related idea, put forth by the journalist and internet commentator Max Read in a story by my friend Kathryn Jezer-Morton in The Cut, is that tradwife content is actually for men with something of a Donna Reed fetish: “Maybe it’s a different version of the e-girl phenomenon or the OnlyFans phenomenon. To the extent that I would worry about anything in the future, instead of creating a mass of tradwife women, it feels a lot like you’ll get one or two very famous ones, and a mass of simping male followers.”)…
Writing for UnHerd, Mary Harrington recently profiled Lauren Southern, a former right-wing influencer who left her husband and now describes her ultratraditional marriage as abusive. Harrington also spoke to another ex-tradwife, who said that “the men who self-select into these communities are often ‘wayward, antisocial, disagreeable and very, very misogynistic.’”
If there’s anyone to worry about watching and absorbing tradwife content to the letter, I suspect that it’s these men. There are too many stories about fathers and husbands who abuse the power they have over their families and too many stories about the wives and children who flee their coercive control. Instead of continuing to talk about tradwives on TikTok or other social media outlets, even to debunk their limited appeal, we should spend more time elevating the stories of the people who made it out of these circumstances. Unlike the manicured, well-lit vision of idealized submission, stories like West’s have no filter.
