Tufts university: academic calendar 2009-2010

Submitting transcripts from my previous university.

2024.05.15 10:56 Major-Criticism-6515 Submitting transcripts from my previous university.

Good news everyone! I got accepted as a transfer student here! I will be attending starting fall 2024.
I have done all the basics (accepting the admission, housing, dorm stuff, VT username, etc.), and I have also updated the SRAR (self-reported academic record). However, VT also requests that I send an official transcript. I wasn't sure where to send it, so I emailed the admissions office. They responded and told me that my previous university must send them, not me.
For those who have gone through the transfer process, did your previous universities send in the transcripts for you, or did you do it yourself? And if they did, did they do it digitally or by actual mail? I just want to know, since they're due in a month.

2024.05.15 10:14 aether-unsolicited How can I stick with a uni course without getting overwhelmed?

How can I stick with a uni course without getting overwhelmed?
I started studying a university course (in naturopathy / health science) online in mid February this year with the intention to face and heal the psychological challenges that come up for me each time I attempt to study a uni course. As predicted, I've been spiralling into dysfunction around it this year, however this time around I have more conscious awareness of the seriousness of these challenges. Returning to an academic environment to me is like opening my own personal Pandora's box of internalised conditioning, trauma, wounds, and compulsive behaviours haha, yet it feels important to me to do this shadow work to become a freer version of myself.
The main challenges I've been experiencing this year around studying are dissociation (finding it hard to connect emotionally to the course or experiencing it as 'real'), mentally 'rebelling' whenever I try to move towards the coursework haha, and being so consumed psychologically with my ideas of (and relationship to) study that my daily routines are all over the place.
The paradox is that I'm very passionate about the topics I'm learning about and I care about doing well in this area of my life - it's just the emotional/psychological obstacles around uni study that make it very difficult for me to continue moving towards it.
I've been thinking that maybe it's necessary for me to study physically in person (instead of online), but I live rurally, so to study my course at a uni campus would mean moving to a city (which isn't really my style tbh) or switching to a local university with a lower quality course, so if I'm able to make online study work I'd definitely prefer it~
So YEAH, all of this to say, I'm really just hoping and looking for any perspectives on this issue in relation to my chart.
tl;dr: How might it be possible for me to overcome/heal/release these emotional and psychological obstacles? What's the deal with the oh so many squares to my moon, and is there a way for me to work with these? Do you have any deeper or general insights into this experience for me?
Much gratitude in advance ~

2024.05.15 10:14 Fearless_Sample3209 Master's in CS without letters of recommendation

Terve
I am an experienced software engineer and am considering doing my master's in computer science in Finland.
One of my qualms is that I finished my bachelor's degree 10 years ago and so I am unable to get any academic letters of recommendation for my master's application which many universities require. Are there any universities in Finland which don't require academic letters of recommendation to pursue master's degrees?

2024.05.15 09:59 Antique-Speaker-3405 The longer we’ve stayed broken up, the more I’ve started to hate him

My relationship with my parents had always been healthy and positive; I basically told them everything so they trusted me a lot. Our relationship took a major shift when I started dating my first college boyfriend. They absolutely adored every detail I shared about him, until I told them about how he was planning on leaving and never coming back to my town after his first year at our university. They told me that the relationship was doomed to fail, but I listened so faithfully to his reassurances that he’d be willing and committed to a long distance relationship with me.
Well one academic school year later, my relationship with my dad completely deteriorated, my mom lost any and all respect for me, and it felt like I had been the only one putting in any effort. I had to make all the plans to meet up outside of mutual class days, I had to plan all our phone calls, I had to just deal with it when he cancelled said plans for work. When he was stressed and overwhelmed, I was there to put my bitterness and resentment aside to comfort him, to let him know that I was there for him and that I cared. But over the course of a week when I started doubting our relationship and stopped reaching out as much as I used to, he dumped me so fast.
Initially I tried mediating, he started crying so I assured him that I’d love to stay friends at least. When we got to a point in the conversation that resembled peace, I asked him why he waited until then to break up with me when he clearly knew things hadn’t been working for a while.
He then said he couldn’t see things working out after he left for the summer. I left without another word because I realized I had absolutely nothing to say to him.
I don’t care that he’s “sorry” or that he thinks I deserve better, or how remorseful he was when breaking up with me. The amount of effort, the amount of my self worth I’ve given away, my relationship with my parents that’s been so heavily affected, everything makes me so furious that I ever listened or trusted him. I feel so stupid now that I actually thought this boy who puts his dreams above everything could ever put me as at least a third or fourth priority.
I feel so used, he was my first time for everything. EVERYTHING. I wish I would have listened to my parents. I wish more than anything that I could just forget he ever existed.

2024.05.15 09:43 neurotichaos I’m not happy for my friend’s great life

And I feel sick about it. I also DONT feel sick about it. So the context:
So my friend recently got a job completely out of the blue that pays them extremely well and gives them amazing benefits. We’re talking this person has the opportunity and means to take multiple overseas holidays every year with their pay and scheduling of their job. The job in question is not one they studied for nor was it one that was in their industry. Basically there was a (very rare) job opening and they interviewed well and got the job.
Now, I know I should be happy for them. But it’s so hard to not compare myself. I studied hard and performed well academically to get the job I have, and I’ve worked hard at it consistently since leaving university to get on a decent salary with some perks. This person gets a job in a completely random field with no experience and no relevant prior training and is somehow living this lifestyle. The way this person talks is also not helping me come to terms with this.
For example, this person will often make flippant statements that they are “broke”, even though they are going on multiple expensive trips per year, have bought a new car etc. At other times they have made comments lamenting how they can’t believe how much things cost and that it’s so hard for them.
It’s hard not to feel upset by this when we are in a cost of living and housing crisis, and my “decent salary” is rapidly affording me (and people on similar salaries to me) less and less. I’m not poor by any means, I have enough for the essentials and some leisure too, but I’m barely saving and I certainly don’t have the money to be going on anything more than a local trip. The housing market is incredibly out of reach for me and I am left dealing with a rental crisis where rents have skyrocketed ~50% in two years where I live. I’ve highlighted that complaining about being “broke” is tone deaf and frankly given them a bit of a talking to but it just doesn’t seem to register with them. Alternatively they may be saying things like this just to be annoying.
I know I should be happy for them. They have an amazing, incredible job! They get fabulous perks! But honestly, I don’t feel happy. I’m not happy. They didn’t work for this opportunity and they haven’t done anything to deserve it. It should be me in this financial position and not them. I should be succeeding in life and having these amazing milestones but instead I feel like an utter failure, even though I am only mid twenties and financially independent, debt free, good career, fit and healthy etc. The cost of living and housing crisis (right on the back of COVID too) has honestly stripped me of so much confidence that I had of ever having a financially secure future. I’m angry at myself for not being “better” and earning this unbelievably high salary but I’m also so angry at my country for deluding my generation into thinking we could succeed if we studied hard and got a good job.
Has anyone experienced these feelings towards a friend before? I’m trying really hard to not be an asshole here but I’m not doing great tbh.

2024.05.15 09:36 loxoror Third college student of mine quit in 12 months because of alcohol

I work at a university and support students as a tutor in their academic careers. Yesterday, the third student in 12 months came to me and said that he would have to temporarily drop out of his studies because he needs to go into therapy for his alcohol addiction.
It really brings me down. All three students were brilliant, committed, and had very good grades. Then it starts with alcohol at parties; they think they have it under control, but then they lose the motivation to study and their internships.
They worked hard in high school and passed the entrance exams for the university - and now all their momentum is gone.
I know they can succeed in therapy, but it is just sad to see how much of their potential is now being lost due to addiction.

2024.05.15 09:29 cbelt20 Thinking of going back to college

6 years ago I had a really bad freshman year at a public university (no excuses, I was lazy and took it for granted) and got an academic probation. I, being dumb and scared, did nothing about it and left. Since then I’ve the first half of my 20’s going nowhere in life but recently I’ve had the motivation to come back.
So I’m looking for some advice with how to get back on track as I still feel a little lost. If I do go back I’d definitely want to start part-time at a local community college this time for financial reasons. I’m worried about how and if the credits from my former university would transfer after an “unappealed” probation. Any advice on where to begin?

2024.05.15 08:54 AdmirableSentence6 Question about iPad or iPhone

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to decide between investing in an iPad or an iPhone. Currently, I have an Android phone that will only be usable for about another year. I'm a university student majoring in Computer Science and Machine Learning with a minor in Physics. Given my academic needs, I'm wondering if an iPad would be a better investment than an iPhone for tasks such as taking notes, reading books, and solving problems. Can anyone provide some advice on which option might be more beneficial?
Thank you so much!!!

2024.05.15 08:16 ParasiteGames What to do after Academic Suspension?

As said in the title, I’ve been placed on Academic Suspension. Currently I’m in the process of trying to get that suspension appealed. But a part of me says I should just let it go through and wait it out. Even then if I am resubmitted into the university. I’m not sure I’ll do any better. I’m also in the midst of changing majors from Computer Science to Business. It also doesn’t help that I didn’t really plan out how my college would go. I feel stuck, and trapped. I just want to know a better way and how to find it.

Pursue your MBBS Abroad Dream here now:

Fuel your MBBS Abroad Dream! Here's a quick roadmap:

Source- Google
  1. Research & Choose: Explore countries offering MBBS programs in English. Consider factors like tuition, living costs, and eligibility requirements. Look for universities recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for smooth return practice [MCI website].
  2. Entrance Exams: Prepare for exams like NEET (India) or MCAT (US). Some universities might have their own entrance tests.
  3. Applications & Visas: Gather academic transcripts, recommendation letters, and proof of English proficiency (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL). Apply to universities well in advance. Secure a student visa after acceptance.
  4. Financial Planning: Estimate expenses and explore scholarship options. Talk to banks for education loans if needed.
  5. Pre-departure Prep: Learn about the new culture and healthcare system. Familiarize yourself with the university's curriculum and accommodation options. Pack for the climate and course needs.
Remember, this is a starting point. In-depth research on specific countries and universities is crucial. Good luck!

2024.05.15 07:59 thz76 Applying to Uni without CCA or achievements?

I’m currently Y3S1 at my internship rn and by the end of this year I’ll prob try to apply for the top 3 universities in Singapore. I’m quite confident in my cgpa 3.9x but I have no CCA and no achievements in poly (idk whether you can count a participation award for NSC during secondary school, does internship count as non-academic?).
Should I start cramming some competitions into my Y3S2 when I go back to school? For those who were in a similar situation, what did you write in the CCA and non academic part? Do tell if you manage to enter Uni with no CCA or non academic achievements.

2024.05.15 07:45 TheLeapQuest How to decide the right time to pursue masters abroad

Achieving the dream of pursuing a master's degree abroad is exhilarating, yet the timing for this journey is unique to each individual, influenced by various factors. Here's a breakdown to help you navigate your decision:
Academic Merit and Profile Strength: If your academic performance, standardized test scores, and overall profile shine bright, securing a spot in a top university could be within reach. This indicates that now might be the opportune moment to take the leap.
Profile Enhancement: For those whose scores meet the minimum requirements but possess a robust profile bolstered by additional skills, certifications, and professional experience, you still stand a strong chance. These extra layers of competence can significantly boost your admission prospects.
Financial Stability: Affording an education abroad without solely relying on loans is a crucial consideration. If your financial situation is favorable and can comfortably support your overseas education, it could be a green light to proceed.
Clarity of Goals: Are your passion and career aspirations aligned with pursuing higher education abroad? If so, and you're confident that this path will help you achieve your goals, then it's time to take the plunge.
Market Conditions: Assessing the economic and job market trends in foreign countries, both presently and projected for the next couple of years, is prudent. If the outlook is promising, it adds weight to your decision to move forward with your plans.
Self-Reflection and Preparation: If uncertainty clouds your mind, or if your academic merit, profile strength, or financial stability need improvement, it might be wise to hit pause temporarily. Take this time to bolster all necessary aspects before forging ahead.
Remember, the journey to pursuing a master's abroad is not just about reaching the destination, it's also about being prepared and confident in your decision every step of the way. Trust your instincts, weigh your options carefully, and when the time is right, embark on this transformative experience with conviction

2024.05.15 07:35 faceitsucker69 Why you should join IIT BHU? Day #1

IIT BHU is comparatively a new IIT but even before it was IIT it was a great engineering college under one of the oldest universities in Asia. The legacy of BHU is not something we can measure in numbers or words.
IIT BHU is unique as it has an open campus (Bikes are allowed from 2nd year), surely it may pose a security threat but the thrill and amazement of being around various types of cultures and people is a very fun and unique experience. The connection to BHU provides a sea of amazing opportunities and many academic benefits.
My Info: Just Completed 1st Year of Mechanical Engineering at IIT BHU.
That is just one of many reasons you should consider joining IIT BHU if you get a good rank, If you are taking exam next year study hard for IIT BHU.
