2024.05.12 15:36 Few-Designer-4516 Hells Kitchen Last Chance Season 13th Vote (Episode 13)

After a shocking double elimination, Kanae was happy to survive and as much as she liked Emily she understood why she left but thought Donya should have been up instead of her. Paula said she was happy with the 3 ladies she had with her on the blue team but said tomorrow they had to win the challenge as she was tired of punishments and Nikki agreed they were getting to caught up in service due to the constant punishments so it was time to win a challenge so they could relax tomorrow. Nick was not happy at being put up as he felt like Anthony and Adam always voted the same was as Van, and asked Anthony if he genuinely thought he had been the 2nd worst tonight and Anthony just said it was tough but he thought Adam ran his course better. Chef Ramsay welcomed back the final 8 and said after last night's awful teamwork during charity night he had a challenge that would force the chefs to communicate as it was the relay challenge where the Chefs would have to cook 5 dishes from the Hells Kitchen Menu in half an hour with a Chef from each team leaving every 5 minutes. Adam was confused by the math on this but Ramsay informed them that the twist was that after 1 chef was left in the kitchen, he would pass on to another and then 2 would be left in the kitchen at the end.
Van was confident in this challenge as the red team's communication was a lot better than the blue teams and they started their dishes off strongly and the red team also started well despite miscommunication over who was starting which dish as both Nikki and Donya started the chicken which was stopped by Paula. Adam and Nikki left the kitchen first and were followed by Anthony and Kanae and finally Van and Donya left to leave Paula and Nick. Paula relaid instructions strongly to Donya when she returned while Nick and Van forgot about last nights issues to leave good instructions. Finally Kanae and Nikki finished the blue teams dishes but Nikki realized the wellingtons were not ready while Anthony and Adam finishing the red teams courses got flustered and forgot the sauce for the duck and ended up dumping the sauce on the dish at the last second. The first dish presented was the wellingtons and while Ramsay felt like the red team's could have done with a minute more in the oven, the blue team's was completely rare and had fallen apart so awarded the point to the red team. Next up was the snapper and both teams nailed the snapper to both get a point to leave the red team up 2:1 but Nikki was confident in the last 3 dishes her and Kanae plated. The blue team's duck dish was perfect while Anthony dumping the sauce on at the last minute made it look like someone had shat on the plate and to add to it, the vegetables were splattered so the blue team tied 2:2 with Adam saying they quacked under the pressure there. The penultimate dish was the chicken and despite both dishes looking a bit clumsy they tasted delicious to leave it down to the battle of the salmon. The blue team had slighly overcooked cauliflowers but the blue team had raw cauliflower and a badly seared salmon to give the blue team victory!
The ladies were finally getting out of here and got to enjoy a day of go karting as well as lunch and Paula said she'd rather have a beach or spa day but will take anything that's not a punishment. The losing red team had to prepare 200 coconuts for a special for tonight and Nick was a bit disappointed in Adam and Anthony's performance as the last 2 standing as him and Van did a great job while Anthony knew the salmon and the duck was his fault but wasn't going to let one bad day get to him and was determined to have a great service tonight. Van and Nick had a pep talk before service about how no matter what, the 4 of them were going to win tonight and hopefully get black jackets, with TEAM RED bonding before service.
Adam was running the appetizers station and said risottos and pastas should never be an issue for him, and Nick was quick to help Adam on the tartares and salads as Adam's first risottos and carbonaras came out perfect. Adam did start to get a bit behind on the high risotto orders and ended up serving one undercooked with Ramsay noting he keeps cooking risotto off the stove which is going to take longer! Adam did fight back on risotto but then got a bit behind on carbonara and called 1 minutes then 2 minutes but he did fight back and with Van serving nice scallops the red team did finish appetizers with Ramsay saying that was a great start and to keep it up. Nick on meat and Van on fish timed very well with Anthony on garnish with Van saying he is not being taken down by the fish station for the 3rd time in hells kitchen as his turbot and salmon, as well as Nick's duck and wellingtons flew out for the first 6 top and Nick said as much as him and Van had issues they both kicked ass in service. Anthony was asked for the all day on ribeyes from Nick but ended up behind on mashed potato and when Ramsay told him the next order, Anthony forgot it straightaway but after being told to get his shit together by Van, he managed to repeat the order to push the next entrees out. Van did end up pushing the time back on turbot and was noted by Ramsay to not be multitasking appetizers and entrees well but Van did fight back and with Nick's final ribeyes flying out, the red team completed a great service with Ramsay praising the performance of Nick!
Nikki was on appetizers for the blue team and felt like after their reward they were in good spirits and had a strong start on risottos but Donya on the fish station served overcooked scallops and Ramsay said it was because her pans aren't hot enough so the scallops are boiling and Donya admitted she was freaking out a bit tonight but knew she had it as she bounced back on scallops. Nikki though dragged on carbonara due to adding too much stock to it and ended up having to start over due to breaking the carbonara and she was struggling to stay organized as she then served an undercooked risotto! Nikki knew she had to fight back herself and did manage to complete appetizers with Donya, thanks to Kanae's help but they were behind the red team on entrees. Paula on garnish said she was going to push Kanae and Donya to their best service yet to beat the boys tonight but Donya served raw snapper and Ramsay wondered why the fuck Donya wasn't checking her food before sending it out to which Donya had no answer. Donya did fight back and Kanae served perfect lamb but a 6 top halfway through entrees of 2 ribeyes, 1 wellington, 1 duck, 1 salmon and 1 turbot was instantly causing problems as Kanae served 2 overcooked ribeyes to completely kill the table and Ramsay said they had to start again as he wasn't fucking about tonight! Paula then served salty mashed potato and Nikki said this was insane that even Paula was fucking up tonight and Paula was now behind on mashed potato but Kanae said it was time to be a leader and get everyone fired up to complete this table. Kanae though served lamb sauce instead of duck sauce and when Kanae bounced back, Ramsay realized that Donya hadn't bothered to fire 2 new turbot and served 2 old turbot which had gone dry and disgusting and Kanae didn't know what the fuck was going on as they had been stuck on this same table forever. When Donya's refire turbot came out RAW, Chef Ramsay had had enough and told Adam to stay on desserts and got Nick, Anthony and Van to come in from the red kitchen to help not only complete this table but the rest of service. Paula said this was completely humiliating and felt like the red team was enjoying this far too much and Donya's station was a disaster as she had no idea what was even fired and Van said he knew the fish station was a bitch so wasn't going to rub salt in the wound and with Van's help, Donya did fight back and the blue team did finally finish service.
Chef Ramsay congratulated the red team but said that that one 6 top from the blue team was one of the most painful things he had ever witnessed and to come up with 2 nominees for elimination. Nikki started by saying that Paula wasn't going up so it was obviously between herself, Kanae and Donya who was going up and Donya said if anyone wanted to put her up she wouldn't blame them but felt like she had been stronger than both of them overall. Kanae said her service wasn't perfect but she worked her ass off to help Nikki on appetizers and was ready on entrees at the end to which Paula agreed and nominated Donya and Nikki. Ramsay said the 2 nominees were fair enough but there was someone else he had to hear from and called Kanae forward as well. The 3 ladies all gave strong pleas to stay but after sending Nikki back in line, Chef Ramsay eliminated DONYA for getting completely lost tonight and needing help from someone on the opposing team on her station but praised her fight and passion as well as a strong performance all season. Adam said he was surprised to see Donya go as he considered her a front runner at one point but said one service could see you out of here and Nikki was happy to survive with black jackets around the corner and said it was time to scratch the 5 year itch of not getting a black jacket in season 19.
Vote HERE for the 2 chefs you don't want to see get a black jacket!

2024.05.09 06:27 WorkingMinimumMum Wholesome memory of a stranger from Georgia

This was back in 2010; I was 15 or 16 at the time. My parents and I were on vacation (we’re from the PNW) In Savannah, Georgia. We went to Paula Deen’s restaurant for dinner where we met our server, Trey. Trey was an awesome guy, he was so kind and we were laughing and joking with him the whole time we were at the restaurant. We had an amazing meal and went on our way.
The next day my parents and I were walking around the town and we run into Trey! It was surprising but a happy moment; we all started talking and found out he was headed to his church. Turns out he attended the First African Babtist Church and invited us to come take a quick tour. A personal tour the first black church in America, what?! Yes please. For some context, my parents and I are white and I was not raised religious. Not atheist, but not religious. My parents just didn’t really talk to me about it at all.
The tour was amazing, we met so many kind, warm, welcoming people! I especially remember this one woman from the kitchen. She had just finished making lunch for the church members, and was offering us food too. We had just eaten so we were stuffed and couldn’t eat a whole second lunch, but we tried some of her food and oh my…. It was amazing! We got to see an awesome part of black culture that day, and felt the love and soul of that church.
I’ll never forget Trey, the church, the woman that fed us. It was such a welcoming experience from someone we had met not even 12 hours prior. Trey, your kindness has made a lasting impact on me, 14 years later. Thank you for this amazing memory. I will never forget Savannah, GA and plan on going back.

2024.05.05 01:32 Few-Designer-4516 Hells Kitchen Last Chance Season 8th Vote (Episode 8)

With the teams now back to the normal format of men against women, the new look male red team was pumped as they had a team meeting as Vlad was happy working with all the men in the red team as he felt it had been Donya, Kanae and Emily who’d been the issue working with and was even happier when Van said he felt the 3 strongest from the blue team were with them now and despite Nick not being convinced by that statement he was happy on a new team as the red team had had a lot of success so they must have been doing right. Nikki was happy to be on a female team but said it was hard having to constantly be on new teams and Suzanne was loving the team spirit on the new look blue team as everyone was positive and working together. Chef Ramsay welcomed the new look teams back and said he hoped everyone was excited for a new challenge where they would be rolling for 7 ingredients each and said he hoped everyones brain was working with Anthony a little worried as despite being great chefs, he didn’t really consider Vlad, Sam and Adam to be the quickest thinkers ont their feet and Nikki said as long as they get a good protein they should be fine.
The red team was up first and had duck as their protein and Van was first up with a strong effort to score 4/5 and Van said a 5 would have been awesome but he’s happy to get a 4. Anthony was next and ended up with bland kale to score 3 which Vlad said was not acceptable as supposed all stars should get 4 or 5. Adam also scored 3 thanks to having slightly undercooked potatoes and Adam said he always expects better for himself but Nick came up with a perfect dish to score 5! Sam also scored 5 with Ramsay saying this was the best dish he’d ever tasted from him and Sam said moments like this is something you never forget but Ed only scored 3 thanks to his dish lacking cohesion but Vlad scored a perfect 5 to give the red team 28/35 and Vlad said with some of the women on the blue team that 28 should be enough. The ladies had pork as their protein and Paula started with a superb effort to score 5 out of 5 and she said she was too old for another punishment and was getting out of hells kitchen today. Alison also had a strong effort to score 4 to keep up the good start but Donya’s effort was asked by Ramsay what was wrong with it and when Ramsay cut into it it was noted to be undercooked to score 2. Nikki though came back with another perfect 5 but Suzanne served overcooked pork as well as bland polenta to score only 2 and the blue team needed a perfect 10 from the last 2 dishes to tie. Kanae scored 5 with a perfect dish and despite Emily having a strong effort, the presentation was slightly clumsy to score 4 and give the red team a 1 point victory!
Chef Ramsay congratulated the red team and told them they would be taking a helicopter trip to santa barbara for drinks and lunch and Chef Ramsay asked Kanae if she wanted to use her punishment pass to which she said YES and took the place of Adam who she felt had an over confident attitude and wanted to take down a peg. Adam was pissed to not be getting a lunch out with his new team but said hells kitchen isn’t easy and reunited with some of his old team members for the punishment. Chef Ramsay joined the red team on the reward and asked the motivations in coming back to hells kitchen and while the team gave humble answers, Vlad was too focused on talking about how great he was and Van said being humble goes a long way in this industry and Vlad needs to learn this. The blue team had to bake brownies for a dessert for tomorrows service and Paula felt like her age was catching up to her with all the punishments and had to have a chat with Nikki who said this was just 1 punishment and they would win the next challenge to live the good life for a while. The next day Chef Ramsay told the new look teams he expected close to perfection and Alison said a team that had worked together for 6 services hadn’t achieved that so that might be a bit much for a team who were together for 1 service.
The red team had Ed and Vlad together on appetizers and Ed said he’d struggled a bit since being back but knowing Van and Nick had his back helped and with Van and Anthony supporting well on fish, Ed and Vlad got their first risottos and pastas out with no problem. Ed continued to have a strong service leading the appetizers and Vlad backed him up very well as the red team finished appetizers very strongly with Chef Ramsay saying the pace could have been quicker but to keep it going! Nick was on the garnish station and said he loved garnish as he was organised and he loved pushing the team, which saw Adam’s lamb and Sam’s ribeyes fly out on the first entrees. Nick continued to have a strong service but Van ended up behind Adam’s duck and he called inconsistent times on seabass before finally getting it out and Van said he wasn’t going to get fucked by seabass in hells kitchen! Sam and Adam continued to perform strongly but Anthony ended up behind and served raw snapper but Anthony said at no point would that let him question himself as his refire come out and with Sam’s final wellingtons coming out perfect, the red team finished a great service!
Donya and Paula were working together on appetizers and Donya said it was an honor to work with Paula as she knew what a great chef she was and their first tunas and carbonara flew out as Paula said she was tired of losing on her return so it was time to come back. Donya and Paula continued to get perfect appetizers out but Suzanne and Alison were struggling to keep up on the fish station and despite Suzanne catching up with her scallops, Alison served lobster tails that were ICE COLD. Alison did fight back and the blue team did finish appetizers but Ramsay noted they were behind the red team and Emily on garnish was determined that this was the service where she stepped up as a leader. Nikki and Kanae were on the meat station and Nikki was pumped on her favourite station, serving perfect ribeyes and wellingtons but Kanae ended up dragging horribly on lamb and not timing at all well with the fish station. Kanae then served raw lamb and Suzanne served overcooked seabass to completely kill the table and Ramsay wondered where the fuck the communication had gone! This caused a ripple effect for Emily on garnish as she couldn’t repeat back the order and then couldn’t call a time back to Nikki on ribeyes. Kanae ended up behind on chicken and called inconsistent times and after Kanae got her chicken out, Emily finally got her garnish served but served watery creamed leeks and Ramsay said he was close to being done with this shit! Kanae and Nikki got their shit together on the meat station but Suzanne ended up being out of sync with Alison and said she was a minute behind on salmon and told Alison to serve snapper if she was ready but Alison served raw snapper and when Suzanne pulled her salmon it was broken and Chef Ramsay had had enough and kicked the blue team out of the kitchen!
A pumped Ramsay congratulated the red team but said the blue team were atrocious and to come up with 2 nominees for elimination. Paula said she was too angry to talk and Nikki said she was close to losing it as well and it had to be between Suzanne, Alison and Emily who goes up tonight and Suzanne was quick to say that Emily dragged all night and Alison was the one with problems from the beginning and Alison agreed she struggled but felt she would be stronger for the team than Suzanne and Emily. Paula was fuming at how bad the performance was from the blue team and had to be calmed down by Donya as she felt the performances from supposed all stars would be better than this shit as Alison and Suzanne were nominated. Chef Ramsay heard 2 strong pleas from both of them but eliminated SUZANNE for struggling a few services in a row and told Alison to wake up. Alison was happy to survive a nomination but knew she would be on borrowed time if she didn’t improve and Van felt happy with the red team as they were working well together and the blue team didn’t feel like a team.
Vote HERE for the next 2 chefs to be eliminated!

2024.05.01 11:15 WiretteWirette [Spoilers EXTENDED] GRRM, redemption and Jaime's ending

Since there're a lot of posts about Jaime these time, it may useful to reread GRRM's quote about what he's trying to explore (amongst other things) in his arc, especially since it's very often quoted (very) unaccurately.
It's in a 2014 interview in Rolling Stone, that you can read here https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/george-r-r-martin-the-rolling-stone-interview-242487/ (paywall, but you can read it using any browser's reader).
One of the things I wanted to explore with Jaime, and with so many of the characters, is the whole issue of redemption. When can we be redeemed? Is redemption even possible? I don’t have an answer. But when do we forgive people? You see it all around in our society, in constant debates. Should we forgive Michael Vick? I have friends who are dog-lovers who will never forgive Michael Vick. Michael Vick has served years in prison; he’s apologized. Has he apologized sufficiently? Woody Allen: Is Woody Allen someone that we should laud, or someone that we should despise? Or Roman Polanski, Paula Deen. Our society is full of people who have fallen in one way or another, and what do we do with these people? How many good acts make up for a bad act? If you’re a Nazi war criminal and then spend the next 40 years doing good deeds and feeding the hungry, does that make up for being a concentration-camp guard? I don’t know the answer, but these are questions worth thinking about. I want there to be a possibility of redemption for us, because we all do terrible things. We should be able to be forgiven. Because if there is no possibility of redemption, what’s the answer then? [Martin pauses for a moment.] You’ve read the books?
As you can see, it's not really about the person trying to be redeemed, but it's about how other people are reacting. In other words, it's not as much about redemption as about forgiveness.
It's worth noting, as well, that for GRRM it's not a theme specific to Jaime : "and with so many of the characters". The show focus this question on Jaime by considerably blackening his character - making him kill his cousin, or making Aerys's death in part about protecting Tywin (in the books, Jaime has taken his decision before Aerys asked for Tywin's head - as shown by the fact he wears his Lannister armour, not the Kingsguard one). But in the books, redemption is a wider question, relevant for many other characters.
And GRRM's take on the question is pretty clear : We should be able to be forgiven. Because if there is no possibility of redemption, what’s the answer then?
One of the many differences between show and books is that the show never bothered to deal with this question. They ditched LSH, whose narrative fonction is to explore what happens when you aren't able to forgive anymore. They stopped adapting Jaime's arc after season 4 - and in season 4, they didn't adapt the part of Jaime's arc where he moves away from Cersei (trying to uphold his KG's oath, and, after the Sept scene, denying Cersei twice - even before learning she cheated on him).
The idea that Jaime's ending will be a failed redemption because that's how the show adaptated it has very little ground.
GRRM himself says the ending of the books and the show will be very different (on his blogpost A Winter Garden, 2022, 8th July)
And the ending? You will need to wait until I get there. Some things will be the same. A lot will not.
He also said before he knew from the beginning how the main five characters will end, but Jaime isn't one of them. And of course, on top of the fact we have clear foreshadowing Jaime will outlive Cersei, he belongs, at the end of ADWD, to a part of the plot that simply hasn't been adapted in the show.
To sum it up : we don't know how Jaime will end in the books, but 1/ we have no ground to think it'll be similar to his show ending, and 2/ we have strong pointers, per GRRM himself and in text, that the show ending isn't consistent with ASOIAF's theme, nor with his character's development, nor with the plot.

Christina Hendricks on the red carpet at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards

Hitting On Christina Hendricks: Everyone’s Doing It

By Michael K / October 6, 2010
Since today is obviously Celebrities Saying Stuff To Magazines Day, here’s yet another one to add to the top of the pile! The ginger chichis goddess Christina Hendricks had a conversation with Harpers Bazaar about how she can’t step outside of her house without somebody trying to warm their nose in her titty alley and about how she’s sort of responsible for the GINGER MOVEMENT (Phoebe Price better get her team of lawyers on this)!
Christina says that ever since she warmed the genitals of the world with her locks of fire on Mad Men, everybody has been hitting on her. EVERYBODY! Dudes who usually only motorboat if a b-hole is involved? Yup, they hit on her. Chicks who have been chasing dicks since they came out of the womb (copyright: Kim Zolciak)? Yup, they hit on her too. Christina explained, “Women hit on me. My husband thinks it’s so odd that so many women hit on me. Gay men too. They say to me, ‘Well, I’m not straight, but if I was…’ I think it’s so flattering.”
Some people! If I ever came across Christina in the outside world, I wouldn’t try to hump or lick her cheek or anything. No, I’d just ask her if I could put my ear to her magnificent chichis so I can hear the angels yodel on the highest mountain peak in heaven. That’s all.
Anyways, here’s a couple more quotes from the interview:
When Mad Men first aired, a woman came up to her in a restaurant to shower her with praise for being a role model: “‘Excuse me, I just want to tell you that I watch your show, and you make me feel better about myself. I am a curvy woman, and you’ve made me feel sexy and beautiful.’ I got teary eyed. I remember Geoffrey saying, ‘That’s what you’re doing for people. That’s amazing.’ And I said, ‘I’m just trying to be a good actress and trying to tell a story, but if this is the sidebar, all this positivity, then that is awesome.‘” During her modeling days, Christina says she showed Karen Elson the power of the ginge: “Oh, I have a story for you. I was in Milan, and you would see the same girls at castings. There was one girl—she was like, ‘I can’t get any work. I’m so sick of this, I’m ready to quit. I love your hair color. What do you color your hair with?’ and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s red. Here’s my formula.’ It was Karen Elson. A couple of weeks later, she had bright-red hair. Sorry, Karen, but you did ask about my hair color. Then I saw her on the cover of Italian Vogue, and the rest is history! Karen is amazing. I’m such an admirer of hers.”
But more importantly, why is she eating that diamond in the picture above? Nasty ass fuck! Dip that shit in butter batter and deep fry it first. I’m sure Paula Deen has a recipe.

2024.04.22 22:38 RibokuGreat Need help with this homebrew concept I found, how would you all stat it out?

How would you all make this goddess stat block and cleric domain?:
"My players tend to do some ridiculous stuff to the point where I could probably fill an entire thread with their shenanigans, but the first and best would probably have to be weaponizing butter.
During the first session the party found themselves in a small town library trying to figure out what's going on. Among other things they found a book with 1001 uses for butter, just as a throwaway detail. They check it out as well and I think nothing of it.
After the session I ask for downtime actions and the party's mad scientist comes to me and says "I want to make explosive butter." I have him roll for it and he aces it. He then posts a picture to our facebook group along the lines of "chicken + stick of butter = [chicken shaped blast shadow] + cooked chicken"
The rest of the group runs with this and it leads to an ever increasing spiral of butter related weaponry and paraphernalia. Buying a cow to secure their own supply and hiding it in their basement. Adding some herbs and spices to the mix and creating the basting grenade. After building a BPG, a different player took a skill specialty in food-based weaponry.
This of course deserved an equally weird response in kind. See, this kind of abuse of butter didn't go unnoticed, namely by the butter deity herself, Paula Deen. She waged a campaign of harassment against the party for infringing on her domain, eventually culminating in summoning a skyscraper-sized sentient corn on the cob to crush them.
In the lore of this world, butter is now a highly controlled substance and the French have become the most formidable military power in the world. Even when telling non-butter related stories from this game, I can only ever refer to it as "Buttergame.""

2024.04.21 22:31 IsntSheUnusual I am being called a bigot because I don't want to date my former friend. AITAH?

There is a bunch of background so here is the link
https://www.reddit.com/relationships/s/TQKpUQeZ5U my post before
Here is the last update I couldn't post: So I posted lot about my struggles and my old friend group. I can't even begin to think to retype all of that, so it's all in my past posts but long story short, "Hank" was in this group. I sent a text in the group chat.
"Hey,
So I understand from what's been said and done that I am not adding any joy to this group. It's very clear I am making things uncomfortable and awkward for everyone. I apologize for any harm I have caused since my accident, and will not be attending any more group events. I will also leave this chat. I really hope you all well and cherish the time we shared.
-OP"
I left the group chat immediately but got calls and texts from all of them asking why, Clara said she understood and wanted to stay in touch and that she too was thinking of leaving the group overall. James and everyone else were hitting my notifications like crazy. I took a nap and Hank showed up at my house.
He said he was sorry if he hurt me and said he was "mean because of a crush " he had on me? I was so confused. You like me so you made me hate myself for literally days?
I said i cant talk and to not just show up at my house unannounced please and he asked me to come back to the group because I am the "heart of the group" and I think my face betrayed me because I gave him the "bombastic" side eye at how cheesy that was. I said I was tired and needed to sleep and closed the door. Now I am getting messages about events like "are you still bringing a cake to this" or "are you still my ride to that."
I just feel used. And alone. I thought maybe cutting away from them would help me feel better but it just makes me feel worse. I feel like I let down my friends because as one of them put it I am "just tossing away the only people who give a sh*t" about me. Idk.
And from there here is what's happened recently...
Since then I started making some supplemental income on writing recipes for a local organization that sells different cook books. It's something I can do in my free time and enjoy.
A lot to catch up on sorry but here is what happened yesterday - I was sitting at a local bar, fairly I have to add that it's a known place I frequent, but I was working on recipes for a new cookbook. The staff there know me as I live close and can walk to them. They also heard some of what happened with my friend group as I've told the bartender who asked me why she hadn't seen me with my friends anymore. When I mentioned writing about it on reddit, she once sat with me while it was slow and read some of it on her phone.
Anyway Hank arrived with some friends, be announced to the staff he got a promotion and was celebrating. He got some congrats from the folks there and I kept my eyes on my notebook but I could see him moving towards me. He gave a really happy hello and I mustered a smile and said hi but went back to my recipe. He said he was thinking of me and wanted to know how I am doing. I said I was fine just busy and hw me asked with what.
I am a moron but I mentioned the recipe book I helped write that is already out. He asked where he could get it and I mentioned it can be found on Amazon as it was the most popular site and he looked it up. He said he was getting the Kindle version and showed me he purchased it and I thanked him and said I hoped he would enjoy it and continued working. He took the hint and went with his friends and for a while I was left to my work and thoughts. I was happy to have the peace, as I have been working on being alone and being okay with it and I have found some solace in being alone in crowded spaces. I enjoy the sounds of life and don't mind being on my own sometimes.
When he returned he was laughing and had the ebook/kindle version of the book and ordered me another beer stating "I know I have to buy you a beer for you to want to talk to me" and just laughed. I said he didn't have to and I could buy my own beer and he kept poking at it insisting he buy my beer and then said "alright alright I will buy you two" and asked the bartender to put my 1st beer on his tab. I was just exhausted at this point and thanked him. He showed me his phone with the book pulled up and went on an at least 5 minute "critique" of the book.
  1. My cover art was boring (I didn't make the cover)
  2. Two of the recipes were bland and not interesting at all.
  3. The images looked too commercial and no one would buy a commercial looking book.
  4. Why are there vegan recipes in it? That's lame and divisive (that would be because one of the other writers is vegan and we found it to be inclusive to add a couple recipes in) And 5. For the price, it's not engaging enough and "it's not like you're Paula Deen or something"
I managed to stay calm for most of it but it was the tail end when he laughed at some joke he said at my expense that I genuinely don't remember and then said "How about I take you on a date, and I can give you some pointers? You know I'm a good cook."
I said thanks but I hadn't the time between my jobs and this new gig as a writer. He kept saying "C'mooooon" and chuckling, nudging his elbow onto my arm but his laugh kept sounding more odd.
I just looked at him and said "You told everyone I ruin everything...I wouldn't want to ruin your time." He rolled his eyes and said that was forever ago and the fact that I haven't gotten over it was "crazy" to him. I didn't say much else to him other than repeating variations of insults he said about me and how he clearly would want "better than me". It was petty I know. But I kept it going. Hank got so angry at me and said to stop mocking him. I said i wasn't, that these are things he said were his observations of me. So why be with someone like that? And he agreed but said "Well then maybe be grateful I think you're cute." And I thanked him but was sarcastic. He then said "You're being too sensitive. Grow up." And I just replied "I know. I am sensitive. Why would you want to date someone like that. I'm sorry. Thanks for the beers." And walked away.
I am getting texts once again from the group and many of them are saying I broke his heart and am a bigot because he is autistic and I clearly look down on him. This was news to me so I want to reply and defend myself. But even still AITAH for being petty and "mocking" Hank?

2024.04.20 00:07 Pangolin36 Recap: “The Next Food Network Star:” S4:E7: “Vegas Throwdown”

Disclaimer: I almost skipped this episode, because it features a cameo appearance from Paula Deen. I will not comment on Ms. Deen’s appearance in this episode.
Lisa was so starstruck to meet Ms. Deen that she cried. I am almost glad Lisa did not win this season, because this is the second guest who has made her starstruck. The first celebrity guest who made her starstruck was Martha Stewart. If Lisa got her own show on the Food Network, she would be around celebrities a lot. IMO, her behavior toward Ms. Stewart and Ms. Deen was unprofessional.
The challenge was lively and energetic. The contestants are paired up in head-to-head competitions where they have to make two dishes: one is their own signature dish, and the second one is their opponent’s signature dish.
I liked Kelsey’s chicken Parmesan on skewers and I liked Adam’s lobster macaroni and cheese.
Lisa uses duck confit as an ingredient in one of her dishes. Duck confit is the second specific ingredient that keeps coming up in her dishes, the first one being haricot verts. I understand her point of view is bringing sophisticated dining to the home cook, but just found it strange how she keeps using the same ingredients over and over again.
I found it ironic Aaron competed against Kelsey, and they both went on to have their own shows on Food Network.
Aaron did really well this episode. He came off very professional.
The Selection Committee does not say who wins each head-to-head competition, but considering Kelsey was eliminated this episode, it’s safe to say Aaron won his challenge against Kelsey.
Overall, it was a fun episode, and definitely one of my top 3 favorite episodes of the season (even though I’ve only seen 7 episodes of this season so far).

Note: This story is meant to be read after completing DDLC Plus. All credit for the original DDLC and DDLC Plus characters and world goes to their creator, and this story is not affiliated with the official DDLC content. Some concepts like the Universal Constructor and the concept of AI rampancy are also borrowed from other series (most notably the original Deus Ex), though their use in this story is my own idea. With a few exceptions, my original characters in this story will generally not be named and their descriptions will be kept vague, so anyone reading this who wants to see themselves in one of the original characters can more easily do so. I'd welcome any feedback and will post more parts as I write them. I hope you enjoy the story.

Here is Part 50 of Digital Reality. Sayori arrives to the real world, but all is not well. Didn’t have time to build the custom dialogue scene yet, but that will be added.
Part 50: Warning Signs
MC stared intently through the windows of the UC control room as the second construction began.
“That blue glow coming from the machine is really weird. Is that normal?” he asked.
“Yes, it’s totally normal,” explained UC senior engineer Lauren Medrano as she walked over to stand beside him, “The nanites that are used for construction emit a bluish light as a byproduct of the construction process.”
MC nodded as metallic pings began to be heard from the Universal Constructor. “How about that noise? Is that normal?”
“That’s normal too,” Medrano assured him, “Just the UC doing what it does.”
MC smiled nervously. “Thanks. I’m just worried about Sayori…I know this should work and that you guys know what you’re doing, but I just hope she’s alright, you know?”
Medrano returned his smile. “That’s nice of you to be concerned for her. You’ll be reunited with her soon enough.”
Several minutes passed. MC continued to pace around the room and stare through the windows into the UC chamber, anxiously awaiting any news from the MES team.
“Everything looks like it went through okay on our end. Do you still think you’ll be able to reduce construction time?” Ive Laster asked, looking up from his laptop.
Medrano looked over to the engineers seated at the control consoles.
“Should be about fifteen more minutes from here based on the latest estimates from the system,” one of them answered, “So far everything is looking good. Eve and the system hasn’t indicated any issues with the parallel constructions we’re running for this one.”
“Great, thanks,” Laster replied, “At this rate we should be done by dinner time.”
“Excellent,” Paula Miner said with satisfaction, “Reporting success tonight would be a great accomplishment.”
The FXI CTO rolled his eyes. “Does she care about anything other than accomplishing project goals?” he wondered aloud quietly.
The FXI President smirked. “Probably not,” he whispered in reply, “But right now our goals align and that’s the important thing.”
He glanced at his Compaq EliteBook. The brushed aluminum finished laptop computer remained connected to VM1 and displayed the terminal window showing the members of the Literature Club who were still in the digital world.
“Is everything still going okay?” Monika asked from the screen.
“It sounds like we should have Sayori here in about fifteen minutes,” the FXI President informed her, “We’ll keep you updated as we know more.”
“Fifteen minutes? Wow, that’s great,” Monika replied with excitement, “I’m glad they were able to speed up the process.”
“Given the engineers’ successful acceleration of the construction process, it appears that I will need to prepare myself to go momentarily,” Yuri observed, “As we are all able to transport items with us, I would like to inform you that in addition to my casual outfit, I have placed my knife collection in my backpack to accompany me.”
The FXI CTO looked over at the FXI President’s screen in surprise. “How many knives are we talking about?”
“W-while I would have preferred to bring my collection in its entirety, I felt that the best course of action was to bring my five favorites,” Yuri explained, looking slightly embarrassed.
“Okay,” the FXI CTO said, writing a note on his laptop, “We’ll have to make sure we grab all those files to transmit when we’re ready for you.”
“Thank you,” Yuri replied, calming down, “Though I know many regard my interest in knives as...unusual, I truly appreciate your willingness to assist me in bringing some of my collection with me.”
From across the room, one of the computers controlling the Universal Constructor chimed an alert.
“Phases one and two of construction are complete,” the engineer sitting at the computer reported, “Everything is still looking good.”
“How many phases does the UC require this time around?” Laster asked.
“Four plus an error checking phase,” Medrano replied, “The system was able to reduce the number of construction phases by more than half based on the data we gathered from the first construction.”
“These constructions are generating a huge amount of data for us,” UC project manager David Kent added as he looked up from his computer, “Once we’ve analyzed all of the information, we should be able to further optimize the UC to further speed up construction times. I can’t go into details about our future plans for obvious reasons, but this will really help us.”
Laster nodded. “Got it. Hopefully that works out.”
“It should, in time,” Kent replied, “The reality is that this whole thing is still highly experimental. Thankfully the Chairman and the executive committee aren’t putting any pressure on us to commercialize it any time soon.”
“I wish we were given the same latitude,” Miner said with a sigh, “We were told that we had to not only accomplish our goals but also find a commercial application for the technology we developed. But I suppose that’s kept them from cutting our budget so far, and after today hopefully we’ll get authorized to spend more money on Project Libitina. And don’t ask. Like you, I can’t share all the details of what we’re working on. Particularly not with non-employees present.”
Kent smiled and shook his head. “I wasn’t going to ask. I understand the need for confidentiality even though we work in the same building. Speaking of which, I know we all went down to the UC chamber after the first construction, but we really aren’t supposed to allow anyone else down there.”
Miner held up a hand. “Understood. We will stay up here going forward.”
“Phase three is complete,” one of the engineers announced, “We’re running faster than expected. The system reports phase four should be done in the next five minutes, and error checking should take about another minute from there.”
“And then I’ll get to see Sayori?” MC asked, looking over from the window.
“Yes, if everything goes well,” Medrano confirmed.
The pinging noises from the Universal Constructor increased in frequency as the process continued, and as the countdown timer on the engineers’ screens ran down to zero, they faded along with the blue glow coming from the construction chamber.
“Construction complete,” reported one of the engineers, “Nanites have been removed from the chamber and we are clear to open.”
The door to the construction chamber slid open, and a young woman who had blue eyes and coral pink hair with a red bow in it stepped out…and promptly tripped over herself.
“Ow!” Sayori yelled, rubbing her wrists to try to make the pain from the fall go away.
Sayori’s eyes became wide as she tried to comprehend her surroundings. The UC chamber, filled with equipment, concrete walls, and glossy tiles, was unlike anything she had ever seen.
“Where am I?” she asked nervously, “Hello? Is anyone there?”
In the control room, the MES and FXI teams exchanged congratulations on a second successful construction. MC tapped on the glass window overlooking the UC chamber to try to get Sayori’s attention. “Hey! Sayori!”
Sayori looked around for the source of the sound and her eyes found MC. Her face lit up with a smile as she recognized him.
The door to the UC chamber slid open and David Kent and Lauren Medrano walked down the stairs. Sayori looked at them with surprise.
“Hi! I’m Sayori! Is this…reality?”
Medrano extended a hand to her. “Yes, it is. Welcome to the real world. Come on upstairs and we can reunite you with your friend MC.”
Sayori bounded up the stairs, taking two at a time in her excitement. As she stepped into the control room, her eyes met MC’s.
“MC. We’re…we’re really here,” Sayori said, barely able to keep her composure.
MC smiled as he stepped towards her with open arms and embraced her. “Yeah, Sayori. We made it. We really made it.”
MC and Sayori held each other for a long moment as the engineers performed cleanup functions on the UC and prepared for the next construction.
“Hey, let me introduce you to the guys who have been on the other side of the screen this whole time,” MC said, breaking the hug and gesturing to the FXI executives and Laster.
“Hi Sayori,” the FXI President greeted her as he stood up from his laptop, “Great to finally meet you in person.”
The FXI President extended his hand to her, but Sayori hugged him.
“Thank you so much,” she said, “You made this possible.”
The FXI President shook his head. “It was all a team effort. Everyone here contributed.”
Sayori turned to the FXI CTO and Laster and gave them each a hug as well.
“It’s so great to be here!” Sayori declared, “So many new people to meet and new things to see! But for now…is there anywhere I could get a snack or something?”
“I think there’s some left over pizza from lunch,” Laster said, “I think they put everything in the conference room next door. There might even be some dessert left too if you want a cookie or something.”
“That sounds great! Thanks!” Sayori replied.
“Ive, I need you for a minute,” Miner interrupted, “We need to chat about a few things before the next construction. Have our colleagues from FXI take them next door.”
“Sure, we can do that,” the FXI CTO said, “We’ll get them set up.”
Sayori and MC followed the two FXI executives out of the control room and down the hallway to a windowless conference room. Everything in the room was shades of gray; the carpet, chairs, tables, and walls were all a bland, corporate gray. Two boxes of pizza sat on the table alongside a plate of cookies and several cans of soda.
“Take what you want,” the FXI President said gesturing to the food, “You guys can hang out here while we continue working on the rest of the constructions.”
“Thanks!” Sayori replied, grabbing a cookie and taking a huge bite, “This is even better than the cookies in our old world!”
MC smiled at Sayori’s excitement and took a slice of pizza for himself. “Thanks, guys. We’re happy to hang out here for now. Just let us know if you need our help with anything.”
“Sounds good,” the FXI President replied, turning to leave the room, “We’ll keep you updated on our progress. Yuri should be next.”
The two FXI executives walked back toward the UC control room.
“They seem to be taking this pretty well,” the FXI CTO observed, “Though I wonder if the full realization has hit them yet.”
“Good point,” the FXI President agreed, “The full impact of what they’ve been through may not hit them for some time.”
They stepped back into the control room where Laster was gesturing to get their attention.
“We may have a problem,” he said quietly as the FXI executives approached him.
“What’s going on?” the FXI CTO asked.
“Rea and Ro reported some odd behavior from the server during Sayori’s construction. I’ve also looked at the terminal window and we are getting graphical issues again,” Laster replied grimly.
“Okay. How do we proceed?” the FXI President asked.
“Just keep going for now,” Laster explained, “Paula doesn’t want to risk the project right now.”
The FXI President sighed. “Okay. But we need to keep a close eye on things.”
Laster nodded. “Agreed. Let’s get back on the terminal app and get ready for the next construction. I think Yuri is up next?”
“Right,” the FXI CTO confirmed, “I just hope we’re making the right call here by continuing.”
The FXI President turned back to his laptop and opened the terminal window. He frowned as he looked at the screen. The Literature Club room appeared inverted.
“Hi again!” Monika said, “Did Sayori make it okay?”
“Yes, she did,” the FXI President replied, “She and MC are in one of the nearby conference rooms having lunch, and we’re getting ready to bring Yuri into reality. Yuri, are you ready?”
Yuri looked to the side. “I…I must admit that I am still terrified. Although I am encouraged by the successful transmission of Sayori and MC to reality, my mind is quite fearful.”
“It will be okay,” the FXI CTO reassured her, “We know what we’re doing.”
The screen flickered and the colors of the room inverted.
“What is that?” the FXI CTO asked.
“It’s not normal…darn it. Another glitch,” Laster muttered, “Keep going for now.”
The terminal window continued to flash for several seconds, and as the club room’s colors and orientation returned to normal, the FXI President noticed that Yuri’s expression had become disturbingly intense.
“YOU! IN THE REAL WORLD!” she yelled excitedly, “STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE! I WILL BE THERE SOON AND YOU WILL BE MINE AND I WILL BE YOURS! I THINK ABOUT IT ALL DAY! EVERY DAY!”
“What’s happening?” Monika asked, concerned.
“Uh oh,” Laster said, “We’ve seen this before. There’s an issue with Yuri’s character file that causes her to go into this obsessive state. We may need to shut down temporarily to fix this.”
“We will do nothing of the sort,” Miner interrupted quietly as she walked over to Laster and the FXI executives. Continue with the operation.”
“Paula…this is a bad idea,” Laster objected.
Across the room, Medrano looked up from her computer. “We’re ready for the next construction. You’re clear to transmit.”
“Do it,” Miner said, reaching over to hit a key on the FXI President’s laptop.
The portal in the club room opened. Still wearing a crazed expression, Yuri stepped through it.
“Transmitting now,” Miner replied, “You should be receiving the file momentarily.”
“What did we just do?” the FXI CTO asked in horror.
On the terminal screen, Monika, Natsuki, and Sayuri looked equally shocked.
“Is she going to arrive to the real world like that?” Natsuki asked in concern, “I really hope she’ll be okay.”
