2024.05.16 08:43 chaibhu In search of a work tote bag for Wife

Hey everyone!
My wife was laid off 6 months ago and after many applications and interviews she finally got a new job that is a good fit for her, pays well and is at a good company. I am incredibly proud of her and want to get her a nice work bag to celebrate her going back to the office. Also since this is an in-office job and not WFH, I want the bag to be classy looking but also highly functional as she commutes via public transit.
Ideally what I am looking for is something that looks like the bellroy Tokyo tote but made with leather or coated nylon as she's not a fan of the woven technical fabrics (she thinks all my backpacks are too techy haha)
Here's a list of things she would carry daily: A small umbrella ~700ml water bottle 14 inch laptop and charger Small pouch of daily makeup A medium sized rectangular lunch box Keys, wallet, sunglass case
Some hard requirements: Top closure zipper as we live in the Netherlands and rain is common Classy looking and appropriate for work At least one sleek outside zippered pocket or drop pocket to hold public transit card, lipstick/lipgloss
My budget is up to 200EUR and availability in EU would be ideal.
Thank you so much!

2024.05.16 04:44 Sea-Confection-8820 Custom Bag Review - 9 pockets!

Custom Bag Review - 9 pockets!
Earlier this year, I found a bag I absolutely fell in love with - the PacSafe Cruise Crossbody. I originally purchased it for travel since this brand specializes in anti-theft bags but I was blown away by how amazingly organized it was. It has 4 outer pockets and 7 inner ones (8, if you count the pen pocket)! But as an anti-theft brand, the style was lacking and it only came in nylon.
So the solution I arrived at was to have u/RaptureofSenses recreate this bag in luxurious lambskin and suede and add on some touches the PacSafe lacked (outer keyring for a charm and shorter strap to hang my bag). u/RaptureofSenses was wonderful to work with and extremely patient as I described my bag (first time getting a custom bag done). I recall a thread that asked what luxury means to you; for me, luxury means getting exactly what you want.
My shortlist of must-haves:
  • An easy exterior phone pocket
  • Plenty of interior organization (not needing to buy an internal organizer to make the bag work for you)
  • Crossbody strap and a shorter strap/handle to hang my bag on things (shout out to the Clippa2 bag hook again)
  • And of course, amazing materials (this is the softest suede I’ve ever felt) but structured enough to stand on its own when filled with (it fits an iPad!).
I will definitely be commissioning more in the future - she did an amazing job merging practicality with luxury. I would have never discovered this was an option if it weren't for this sub, so thank you to all the previous reviewers!
Edit: Noticed I'm having trouble uploading the images :( Let me try to figure that out...

2024.05.16 04:29 Mean-Employment5448 What just happened?

Someone just came to my vending machine and bought a couple thousand caps worth of stuff. I popped back to wave and say thanks. They dropped everything that they just bought in a duffle bag in front of the machine. Did I scare them off? Random act of kindness to just gift some caps? I am still newish to the game and hope I didn't make it weird.

Adoptive Mother: Anne Jones, age 42
Adoptive Father: Jake Jones, age 43

Personality

"Well, I love the kid. He's my son, of course I love him. He's generally been a kind, optimistic kid who loves the outdoors, although if you ever get him upset, good luck getting back onto his good side. Few more... quirks, if you really want me to talk about them, but let's focus on the positives. He's humble, there's that. I've never seen him take too much credit for his own achievements. He's entranced by music, which I guess is a good thing, but it's almost the only thing he pays attention to. He's really always had a hard time paying attention to things, now that I think about it. But yeah, he's kind, positive, friendly and social, but man does he hold a grudge." - Jake Jones, when asked about Mac, one year ago

Favorite Things

"Well I really enjoyed spending time with my friends. They're basically my heart and soul, we did everything together, until we didn't when I moved away. But finding new ones hasn't been a problem yet." - Mac, discussing what he misses most from his old hometown, six months ago
"Music is the best, for sure. I love my favorite artists, they've brought me to where I am today. Go ask me about some music, I can tell you ANYTHING. Length of an album? I got you. Release year? Already know it. Do I have the vinyl? Obviously." - Mac, when asked what he wanted for dinner, two years ago

History

[to be revealed]

Now

Mac had been walking for the last few days, but looking at him you wouldn't realize it. His top, a white shirt paired with a leather jacket, was a bit dirty, but nothing major. His jeans had holes that could have been mistaken for an outdated fashion trend. A backpack was slung over his shoulder, unzipped. It looked like the contents were about to spill out, but Mac either didn't notice, or didn't care. He had a decently full duffle bag that he was struggling to carry, but he tried his best to hide it.
Starting the final stretch of his journey, he looked at the hill, with the gigantic pine tree at the top. This was the spot. As he made it to the top, he turned, and to anyone watching, it would appear he was waving at the trees. He continued his hike up the hill, unaware of the grapevines glowing above his head.

2024.05.16 00:35 americanbayken Carry-On Size Question

TL/DR...my carry-on is a duffle bag with backpack straps; it's 5 inches longer than specified on the WJ website. We're traveling from Atlanta to Vancouver for a cruise. Will they make me gate check my bag or should I be OK? It's obviously a soft bag and able to be compressed a bit.

2024.05.15 22:58 boss-battle-theme ANNAPRO Pressure-Reducing Comfort Head Strap Impressions

My head strap from ANNAPRO arrived yesterday in the mail and I've had several hours to use it.
What I like:
  1. Build quality -- I haven't had any build quality issues with other Vision Pro accessories, but it's worth pointing out that this one appears to be well-crafted, too. It also includes two sizes of replacement cushions.
  2. Modest profile -- I usually pack my Vision Pro in a Waterfield case that I drop in a larger duffle bag. I can still easily bag my headset with the head strap in place, so I doubt I'll need to remove it (but if I did, it's trivially easy).
  3. Relief of face pressure -- With the comfort strap properly situated, most of the weight of the headset is removed from the cheeks and brow, transferring it instead to the strap. As a result, the solo headband can be loosened further, and there is less chance of facial marking from extended use.
  4. Longterm comfort -- I've worn this thing for more than four hours now and the relief it provides is not inconsiderable.
  5. Price -- I think the price for this accessory is more than reasonable considering that other accessories requiring the purchase of an additional solo band (~$100) are priced similarly.
What I don't like:
  1. Build materials -- the cushion material is a black polyurethane sponge that resembles a low-quality headphone strap. Being pressed against the forehead as it is, it becomes blotted with skin oils with each use. It would have been nice if the cushion material more closely resembled the fabric of the light seal cushion.
  2. Positioning -- I think the solo band is comfortable enough on its own, and I can quickly find a comfortable position after putting the headset on. This is because it is easy to sense the weight distribution when the device rests on the face. With the head strap, the weight cues are removed, so adjusting the headset is mostly done by aligning it to where it would have gone and then pressing the unit back into my forehead until it is comfortably seated. Then I adjust for any warnings about being too close, far, etc., which seem to happen more frequently.
For people who are new to using the Apple Vision Pro, I highly recommend using the included straps for at least two weeks before starting to buy additional comfort accessories. I preordered this strap before really making my peace with the solo band, and in retrospect, I think the solo band is comfortable enough without additional accessories. That being said, if you're using this thing at the office and are worried about a ski mask print on your face when you go to the bathroom or have long-term comfort issues, you could do a lot worse than this thing.

2024.05.15 21:31 Zestyclose-Ad2945 Dry Bag Overall Size - Smaller than online photos?

Does anyone on the larger side have a dry bag and feel like its way bigger in official photos? Mine seems really small compared to photos online. To the point where I thought it may be a fake. I'm 6'3'' 220lb with broad shoulders. Feels more like a slightly oversized backpack on me, not this giant duffle like bag shown in model photos.

2024.05.15 20:50 GarbageTVAfficionado 10-year collection

10-year collection
I’ve been buying Baggu for the last 10 or so years and recently needed to distract myself for a while so I made these in FreeForm to visualize my collection. It’s def bigger than I thought, but I don’t need anything else; all of these items get regular use except the mini crescents, which confuse me.
I still haven’t done one with my reusables—that will be next. I primarily bought reusables and pouches and accessories until recently when I started using the nylon bags more, which is probably obvious.

2024.05.15 20:20 HoneycombBladeworks Gussets

Hi guys,
I'm looking for some help. I've been doing leather crafts for a while now, mostly custom knife sheaths, wallets, a few purses, and a duffle bag. My question is, I've recently started playing with using gussets and each time I have so much difficulty.
What's the trick? I usually measure the outside circumference of my bag template and then use those measurements for the gusset length. Then divide the gusset length by the number of stitch holes on the main body to get the correct stitch distance.
Each time I do this I usually have 1 or 2 too many holes. It drives me nuts and usually end up trimming my gusset to the correct number of stitch holes and "making do" with the error. Both times it's worked out okay but I want to figure out where I am going wrong. Any suggestions?
TL/DR: Need help with designing Gussets appropriately. What tips and tricks do you have?
