2024.05.02 17:39 Mundane_Detective_41 Pentagon Kino has released his 1st solo album under his self-established company!

As many would know, Pentagon members -except the hyung line who are held back by their enlistments delaying their contract expiration- left Cube in October, and Kino decided to set up his own company called Naked (Shinwon has a lot of fun teasing Kino over the name and about him being a CEO now). The reason for doing so was that he had a clear path he wanted to take as an artist, and he didn't feel like he would be able to achieve it by signing into another company, that the person he could trust the most was himself.
Here is a brief Naked company tour and it looks so much nicer than the Cube building.
And today he has finally released his first ep! It's called 'If this is love, I want a refund' which is quite an original title. He has been involved in everything and overseen every part of the process since he wanted everything to be to his taste and the album has 2 versions called expectation (photobook type) and reality (digipack type). The photobook version includes a heart origami while the digipack packaging has a heart that breaks when you open it, the photocards have rock-paper-scissors drawings to play with your friends when deciding who pays while hanging out.
Pentagon members have already made posts supporting him!
Kino's also a full-time tiktoker and has been using it for his guerrilla marketing, posting tiktoks to hint the theme of his song releases, going to Coachella and promoting himself while he was there and even making random people, including Simu Liu, listen to his song.
As a belated intro for anyone not familiar with him, he is Pentagon's main dancer, sub vocal, sub rapper and part of the group's producer line. He's their dance leader and has been involved in the group's choreographies, even with their debut Gorilla.
A lot of people forget about this fact, but in 2018 Kino's Shine fancam went viral among Korean community sites and he was a stan attractor to the group for k-fans during Shine era, even DKB's E-Chan who's a fanboy has also mentioned this fact several years later. The main reason for his virality at the time was that they loved how happy and cute he looked while dancing Shine, and he's always had fame for being very sweet to fans, which is why he's nicknamed 'Uni Prince'. He credited Pentagon's fandom universe for the lyrics in Pentagon's fansong Eternal Flame and still brags about it in recent interviews.
In 2022 he participated in SMF's prequel Be Mbitious where he gained attention for his visuals and dancing skills. In the final he was in the top 8 on both judge rank and audience rank, but unfortunately his overall score landed him at rank 10, ending up 2 spots away from debuting in dance crew Mbitious and unable to go to SMF.
Kino is more prolific in song writing and production than what most people might assume! The first b-side he produced for Pentagon is It's Over in Demo 01 album in 2017 (their first fully self-produced album) and since then he's a regular in Pentagon's credits. A lot of his songs are some of the most beloved b-sides such as Violet, Spring Snow, Sparkling Night or Japanese title track Happiness. One of my favorite Pentagon songs he produced is When It Rains At Night, which I really recommend.
Last August, Pentagon released their self-produced Japanese mini album Pado, where Kino co-produced 4 out of the 5 songs, including the title track Pado (wave to me) and b-side Made In Heaven, which is Spring Snow's little sister and Pentagon members (especially Shinwon) have been wanting to release the song since 2019.
He's produced for many artists like A.C.E's Atlantis, Park Minji's Ring or Kriz feat WOODZ's Bad, and wrote the lyrics of Park Handam's Maze or (the forgotten Cube ballad girlgroup) A Train To Autumn's The Season You Were In among others. Of course for Pentagon members too, he was involved in Wooseok's solo Always Difficult Always Beautiful from Wooseok x Kuanlin's album, produced and collabed on Jinho's Gravity and Hongseok has an unreleased solo song called Nothing Has Changed which is produced by Kino that he has recently performed at his solo fanmeeting last month.
Kino even wrote and composed OSTs like Pentagon's Twenty Twenty for the drama of the same name, his solo OST Stay With Me for Pumpkin Time or Lee Sooyoung's Shine Bright for Kkondae Intern.
He's also an artist! He has painted several artworks, had them displayed in exhibitions and sold some of them. Here is a vlog where he shows his art studio. He made a Daisy painting which he gifted to Hui as a present before he enlisted (and Hui still shows it off in his studio). Hui liked it so much and the members liked it too they decided to use it as the digital cover for Pentagon's WE:TH album. Kino also did the art for the WE:TH teasers.
While in Cube, he had his solo debut with his single Pose, which is inspired by the tale of Narcissus. He was highly involved from concept, meetings with Cube, song production (Wooseok helped him out with the lyrics and Hui sang part of the demo), selecting the dancers, choreography, sketched costume designs for himself and the dancers, MV filming location, color palette and more. Kinowhere episodes 2-4 show the process and it's worth watching. Unfortunately, Cube used his solo debut to try out a platform version release for the first time, so he had no physical CD, it was just one song and he was only able to perform one music show stage. He hasn't performed at music shows since then, but he is back for the first time in 2 years with this comeback! He performed at Mcountdown today and he is confirmed for Show Champion.
After establishing his company, he has been performing solo concerts in Korea, Japan, Taipei, Hong Kong and traveling all around the world. The credits at the end of the concert are hilarious but show his hard work. For his Korea concert several of his friends sent video messages as support such as BTOB Eunkwang, Kwon Eunbi, The Boyz Hyunjae, Seventeen Vernon, WOODZ, actor Lee Hyunwoo, Aiki and Hui, and Pentagon members attended (being loud fanboys). He has performed a couple of Pentagon songs he produced at his concerts like Spring Snow, Beautiful Goodbye or Call My Name.
In November, he held a listening party with adult fans where they drank beer while having an exclusive preview of some songs from this album. Pentagon members were there too, except Hui who had a musical performance that day and Wooseok who went to Hui's musical to not leave him alone but they cheered each other on social media. He also was a surprise guest at Yeo One's solo fanmeeting, performing together, and showed up at Hui's Hmm BOP MV filming to support him as well as his solo debut showcon with the members. He has guested several times in Wooseok's radio show.
Now onto the album!
Fashion Style was the first song he released and it is about being true to yourself. He didn't even have a manager when he did this release. He did the challenge with Jinho and Hui, also with Sorn who helped him out when he traveled to Singapore to do a couple of schedules since last year we've had a lot of CLC-Pentagon interactions.
Freaky Love was his second digital release with a cute animated MV. This short video explains how he made the song after discovering the word 'delulu' on his tiktok's comments. This time he did the challenge with Wooseok!
Fashion Style and Freaky Love are included as b-sides in his album.
He released a performance video for his b-side Solo. It's a breakup song where instead of heartbreak, what remains is happiness and feelings of liberation. It is choreographed by Jinstar, who trained Pentagon and has worked with them on Spring Snow, Dr Bebe, or their RTK stages (also recently worked on Riize's Get A Guitar and Memories or Ten's Dangerous). The other choreographer Dayoung, is another regular who has worked a lot with Pentagon. SWF fans might recognize Rozalin among the dancers, she is Kino's highschool classmate from Hanlim.
For the comeback rollout he also gave us a live clip of his song Valentine, which he had previously spoiled in one of his concerts. Quite a simple video, but fits the song's chill vibe and personally has my favorite styling.
The title track is Break My Heart features Lay Bankz. The song includes a surprising Blackpink reference and showcases the style he seems to be into lately.
Some other facts:
Despite this post is already long, there's still a lot I missed talking about that other unis can fill in, but just to conclude I'll say that he's an artist in every sense of the word and I'm glad he took the risk to make his own company and continue to release music on his own terms! I think the album is quite nice to listen so please do check it out, and he's a wonderful performer so watch out for his stages too.
If you've made it here, thank you for reading!

Hi everyone!
I watched it in the early 90s (around '92-'94, I think), probably on VHS, but it's not impossible that it aired on TV. I remember very few things about it, and it's quite jumbled in my memory, but I'll try to gather everything:
That's about all that's left. I've been searching for years, but unfortunately, without any success so far. Maybe it will ring a bell for someone. Thank you in Advance!

2024.05.02 06:09 benitosbenito issues with kpop and the fans, extensive rant

i see people buying albums, merch, and concert tickets but it's really not worth investing away you or your parent's money at, and to have all these things in which you will inevitably toss away later. why couldn't they have seen the concert of anyone else? say a band, a non-kpop one. do they not listen to any other music? are they entertained by the performances in which is only sung live half the time? even then they need significant help from the backing track. i get that they dance at the same time as singing but with the people they choose to become idols, they're more on looks than talent so they couldn't sing whilst standing still anyway. on the looks part, they look too artificial and plastic, they don't look real, and they all look the same, very plain at that. new groups come along doing the same things, fans eat it up and continue to pretend they love it and waste away more and more on it. do they only love it because other people do?
fans feel entitled to dance on any space they please in order to fan their own ego even though others have important and urgent places to be such as, work, college/school, etc.
once you discover all music outside of kpop, you will come to the realization that kpop is not all that its cracked out to be. they copied and pasted what everyone in the world (mostly us, uk, japan, and more) has been doing for years with nothing new to add of their own. producers in korea are scarce, they buy productions from us, uk, japanese producers with no changes, only a translation. albums are disjointed, having a different producer for each song. the idols have no idea what they're singing about but the fans don't care to translate the korean lyrics to english to find out anyway. idols feel no connection to their lyrics, you feel no connection to their performances, zero emotional connection all around.
idols become so uptight with screwing up their dance routines that you can see a visible panic on their faces as they continue to try and perform. the fact that idols are scared to do what they do because they know what's to come behind the scenes, a punishment, discipline, or scolding from their producer, choreographer, or manager is scary.
do idols not realize what they got themselves into but it's really hard to get out of due to contracts? can they talk about their experiences afterward or can't because of legal issues with the company?
being a fan of jpop, it makes me wonder what makes japanese youth want to run over to korea to pursue idoling. probably just the fame? seeing as kpop is booming at the moment? japan's very own idol culture is much more pure, why would they willingly choose kpop's over staying right at home. do they feel like they need a little challenge in their life? to take a chance to tell everyone they went overseas and went out on their own?
why does everyone continue to want to become idols knowing how dark and depressing it can be? do they want to pursue it for the paycheck? it's hard enough for big idols to make money, let alone be in one of many nugu unknown companies and be more in debt than anything.

2024.05.02 05:33 Mimizu-ningen My car got vandalized and goods including wallet have been stollen

I live in a very peaceful (or so I thought) neighborhood in Mito with mostly elderly people who can barely move their legs anymore. Been living here for 3 years and never heard of any crime happening. All my neighbors are friendly and kind. The only thing scary in this neighborhood is the rabid raccoons.
I always park my car next to the house I’m renting, right by the guest bedroom window. I sometimes leave my bag with my wallet in it on the passenger seat because WHO’S GONNA TAKE IT, RIGHT? Well, it got taken.
I woke up to the passenger seat window completely shattered and the bag was gone. I only had 9000 yen in cash, but what I’m dreading the most is my documents. All of them. Credit cards, point cards, resident card, driver’s license, everything has to be renewed. I had 1500 yen on my Tsuruha point card and I was gonna use them to buy my son’s diapers that day.
Anyway, the police didn’t do anything. My neighbors don’t have any type of CCTV, I didn’t hear anything during the night, and there were no fingerprints and no suspects. And even if there was a suspect, if there was no evidence, Japanese police couldn’t care less. I know they’ll never find my stuff. They were acting pretty bored and bothered too, like I woke them up from their nap and dragged them here. I even showed them a picture of my bag and wallet and drew a sketch and they were like nah we don’t need that. I beg you pardon? Instead, they spent an hour counting steps around the house. ???? I told them to review the footage of the CCTV from the Anko factory in front of my house and they were like nah that won’t be necessary, we’re gonna take your fingerprints instead. ??????? I beg your DEAREST pardon. I could not reason a thing of their investigation.
Anyway, my car finally got fixed today but my stuff will be forever gone. Be cautious and don’t get in my situation, otherwise the police will count how many steps from the crime scene to the gates of hell (immigration office).

2024.05.02 02:11 Smarties_Mc_Flurry Impressively terrifying JHorror film to show my girlfriend?

Im a huge Jhorror fan and Im trying to get my girlfriend into liking japanese horror as well. I haven’t watched many films recently, though I have seen most of the Ju-on series (my all time favorite) as well as others like Reincarnation, Kairo, Ringu, and The Howling Village.
Watched the American spinoff film The Grudge (2004) with my girlfriend last week, she seemed to really like the aesthetic of it and is intrigued to watch the original Ju-on and other Jhorror films. The issue is, she was expecting The Grudge to frighten her a lot more than it did, and she’s looking for something that will genuinely scare her. To be fair a lot of horror movies aren’t that scary to either one of us.
With all of that said, do y’all have any recommendations on a really scary japanese horror movie for me to watch with her? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.02 02:09 LoveliestLoser Is the Corpse Party on Crunchyroll show any good?

I've been looking for something scary to watch and I've recently discovered Corpse Party. I've downloaded ROMs for the game but it was all in Japanese, so I found the show on Crunchyroll. I've heard people say it's censored but what kind of censored? Sexual, gore, or are they bullshitting me?

2024.05.01 22:53 Mundane_Flower2490 Is it Bart?

Hi all, looking to share my story and get some outside opinions here.
To start. 34y Male. Live in the woods of CT. Pulling ticks off my Golden retriever is almost a daily occurrence.
September 2023. Woke up with an embedded "brown" tick. Removed it and thought nothing of it.. fast forward to Mid November 2023. Woke up to both of my knees burning. Felt like they were on fire as I was laying in bed. Have a ton of doxycycline on hand from dogs Lyme exposure so put myself on 2x 100mg doxy daily for 3-4 weeks. Within 2 days my knees were 80% better. 5 days I was at 100%.
Starting Feb/March I would have this issue where my lymph nodes in my neck would randomly start burning. Happened very sporadically at first. Then started feeling some mild arthritis in my knees again so went to my GP in April. He ran a Lyme panel that came back negative... And also an "ANA" autoimmune panel. ANA came back positive as well as RNP. Was told I most likely have an autoimmune issue and refered to a rhuematologist.
The more I research my symptoms and the connection to Lyme/Bart to autoimmune I feel like that's a big factor here... Mentioned this to my Rheum on Monday and he brushed the Lyme concern aside. Said "most likely not lyme" we need to treat your immune system etc.. He ran a ton of blood work for RA/autoimmune that day and got results back today. ANA/RNP negative this time and every other inflammatory marker was down.
My symptoms include: Sudden arthritis in knees, pain in bottom of feet, mild pain in shins, some scary neuropathy type numbness on the top of my hands, pins/needles feeling in hands/feet, brain fog, neck/shoulder stiffness, lower spine also feels arthritic, zero energy, and the lymph nodes burning.
On Monday I put myself back on doxy.. 4x 100mg daily, cryptolcepis, houttuynia, and Japanese knotweed. Since then I feel "better". My lymph node hasn't burned since, and I feel I got 80% of my energy back. Although yesterday my knees and pins/needle sensation in my hands came back 😞.
I feel like there is an autoimmune component to this, and it's because my body is trying really hard to fight potentially Bartonella. Although I could be wrong to...
Before all of this I was perfectly healthy. Never had an achey joint in my life.
Am I correct to assume my autoimmune diagnosis is very much related to this recent Tick bite?
I just scheduled an appointment with a local Lyme specialist on May 22nd.
Any input is appreciated. Feel like every day I have some new symptom.

2024.05.01 22:06 DaburuKiruDAYO Weird story about UFO and the possible meaning behind the lyrics?

After some googling, no one really seems to know what UFO is exactly about, so I thought this might be a fun addition to the theory.
For context, I’m Japanese American and this was when I was visiting my family in Japan 2016-17 ish? My aunt and uncle are psychic mediums (it’s a lot more viable of a job in Japan) and although I don’t necessarily believe anything they said, I’ve thought about this story for a long time. (My uncle had acute onset schizophrenia in his twenties and that’s when he started- undiagnosed, though. It’s quite obvious what he had, he heard the radio talking to him and such, and my aunt (his wife) found a note on her door midsuicide attempt and claims she started seeing after that event, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was also some kind of acute onset psychosis)
Anyway, with all that out of the way. I liked hearing about their stories, regardless of my belief for the whole thing. My aunt told me that sometimes she gets little tiny grey aliens from Zeta Reticuli that come visit her to “feed” on her energy.
She said “they aren’t scary, or harmful. They just need external energy to keep them in existence. Their home planet was destroyed by a larger entity so they have no choice but to roam and scavenge. They’ll be destroyed by loneliness and sadness if they didn’t. Really, they’re pitiful creatures. I feel terrible for them. Although their fingers are cold and slimy and kind of gross me out” (translated from Japanese so not exact)
Anyway, I went about my day not really thinking about that story and then I listened to kikuo’s UFO for the first time and I was floored at how similar the song and the story my aunt had just told me was. I sent her the song and she was also shocked and asked where in the world I found a song like that.
So, I’m not necessarily saying Kikuo was visited by aliens LMAO. But rather maybe this is like a known story among alien conspiracy theorists? Because if it is then maybe he heard about it and thought it would be a good topic to make a song about? It is a very melancholy story, like the song. Especially the lines about wanting to go home and how lonely they are, even the line about a space war. (The English translations translate it as “war of the worlds” but the Japanese literally translates to “space war”)

2024.05.01 17:41 lets-split-up I bought a chest freezer on craigslist... appliances are terrifying!

This new story returns to one of my favorite scary props: freezers. There's just something about these big appliances... the idea of bodies being stuck in them is creepy. Maybe because it actually happens. I've written two separate stories before about people stuck in fridges/freezers, and one post about my research into children's accidental deaths in them.
But sometimes it's no accident... sometimes there's deliberate use of freezers... like this incredibly creepy news article about how a man went to clean out his late mother's Manhattan apartment and found she'd been keeping a corpse in her freezer for over a decade. Even more unsettling? While trying to find this article, I found several more similar incidents.
I keep telling my spouse I'd like a chest freezer to store stuff from our garden during the winter. But now I'm second guessing that wish...
On a sidenote, I know I promised a new series. Sometimes I plan meticulously but when I actually start writing, the story just doesn't match the vision in my head. The truth is I have about four different series I've started, only to drop because they're not compelling enough. I had a lot of false starts these past few weeks. But I've got a few things in the pipeline currently!
Meantime, enjoy the new standalone story!

2024.05.01 13:38 jellybean83087 FIREd 36F SINK 2nd Year Update

TL DR: FIREd in May 2022 with $885k, current NW is $1M. Last year’s expenses totaled $28k. I slowly road tripped along the west coast of US and spent two months in Canada. Recently sold my car, downsized material possessions, and moved to Japan. I am now attending a Japanese language school for a year. This is a great way to explore a new country, challenge my brain, and gain access to social networks.
Background: Click here for the link to my first year update.
Life Update: In 2023, I slowly road tripped along the west coast of US and spent two months in Canada. I started from Seattle and drove up north to Vancouver and Calgary. Spent a month in each city. Joined the local hiking Meetup groups and explored the numerous hiking trails around the cities. Among one of my best experiences in Vancouver was training with a local dragon boat team. After Canada, I drove down south all the way to San Diego. I picked up my best friend at San Fran, and we toured around CA for two weeks before stopping in San Diego. I stayed in San Diego for a month after my friend left, and then flew to the east coast to spend a few weeks with family.
Recently I’ve sold my car, downsized my material possessions, and moved to Japan. In my update last year, I had mentioned two issues post-FIRE. The first issue is the lack of social interactions and the second is the lack of brain stimulation. Moving to Japan and studying Japanese is my solution to both of them. I just started attending a Japanese language school and will be here for a year. This is a great way to explore a new country, utilize my intellect, and meet new people in a community environment.
Finances: I FIREd two years ago with $885k. NW is currently hovering around $1M. Hurray!! And a big pat to myself for joining the two-comma club! My 2023 expenses totaled $28k. I aim to spend below the 4% SWR, but it’s not a strict rule. Other than having about two years’ worth of expenses (~$70k) in cash, the rest of my assets are in index funds, VTSAX. The funds are held in a mix of tax efficient retirement and taxable brokerage accounts.
People often ask how I manage to keep my expenses so low. My largest expenses are housing, transportation, and food. I find that as long as I keep these three categories under control the rest of my budget is easy. 1) For housing, I try to spend on average $1,500 or less each month on hotels and Airbnbs. Airbnb hosts will often give a large discount to monthly renters. In Japan, I am renting a bedroom in a shared house for $600 per month. The house is located in the heart of the city and within walking distance of my school. I’m enjoying it so far. 2) Transportation-wise, last year I had my little Honda fit and drove it all around the US and into Canada. It was a fully paid off car so I only had to pay for gas, maintenance, and insurance. That averaged around $200 per month. I sold the car for $10k prior to my move and am solely relying on public transit in Japan. 3) Food costs were about $300 per month last year. I mostly bought groceries and cooked rather than eating out. I try to eat out with friends and when I find a restaurant that I want to try. My food costs will likely go up in Japan since there are so many good restaurants. Generally restaurants in Japan are much cheaper than the US due to the strong dollar and lack of tipping culture. Rather than focusing on saving, I’m trying to flex my spending muscle in order to spend more on food experiences. Instead of having a spending limit, I’m going to force myself to use up $500 or more each month on food. This will be an interesting social/financial experiment. Shout out to Ramit Sethi, the Mad Finentist, and the guys at MileHighFI podcast for the inspiration to initiate this spending change.
Since the cost of living in Japan is much lower compared to the US, I’ll be using the remainder of my budget to explore the nearby cities and countries.
Health Insurance: I understand that this topic is a big concern. Here’s my situation. In the US, I am relying on Medicaid for health insurance. The state that I am based out of has expended Medicaid, which just requires a low income. My only source of income is dividends from my taxable brokerage accounts and interest income from HYSA. Added up they are usually around the Federal Poverty Level. Additionally, unless you are a senior citizen, there are no maximums for financial assets. Medicaid rules vary from state to state so YMMV.
Upon arriving in Japan with a long-term student visa, I’ve gained access to the National Health insurance. Overall, Japan’s healthcare costs are much lower than that of the US. The national insurance gives me 70% off all medical and pharmaceutical expenses while in Japan. As an example of how cheap medical services are here, I recently went to a clinic for allergies and paid $7 for the doctor visit and $5 for the medication he prescribed. It was such a relief to not feel like I’m being robbed after seeing a medical professional.
Plans for the near future: After spending a year in Japan, I will continue to slowly travel around Asia, Australia, and Europe. I am aiming to spend weeks to months in each place. I find that slow traveling is much more enjoyable and affordable since you can get weekly/monthly discounts on hotels and short-term rentals.
Reflections and Random thoughts:
Thank you for reading my long rambling update. It feels nice to organize my thoughts on paper. Hopefully my experiences can be of help to some of you or at least entertain you. Given the 13hr+ time difference, I’ll try my best to answer any questions before going to bed and will pick it up again tomorrow morning.
Edit: The language school I'm attending in Japan costs $6k for the year, so about $500 per month.

2024.04.30 21:11 ilikegus Just finished the whole series and it was amazing

You probably get these a lot, but I just want to ask some questions and share my comments about the games.
First of all, wow the games are amazing. 999 blew my mind when I was playing it and VLR and ZTD were great follow ups. The character writing was great for all 3 games, the stories were amazing and really well structured, and I loved the music. It really added to the overall experience.
I thought 999 was practically perfect. I loved the 2d sprites, I loved the story, I loved the characters, and I fell for basically every twist in the game. I heard this game was good and got it on my DS, but I had no idea what it was about and I was happy when it was just a scary escape room. Junpei was a great protagonist and I immediately loved June for the rest of the game. The story was absolutely phenomenal and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved the sprinkling in of science facts and all the references to 9 were super clever. It had a perfect balance between puzzles and stories and I loved the different sound design when each character “spoke”. I thought redoing the puzzles every time was a little annoying and the Alice stuff was kind of weird, but the game was incredible overall. It was so amazing that it kind of made it impossible for me to enjoy the other games as much.
VLR was great and I loved playing it, but it was a lot harder to get into than 999. I didn’t enjoy the switch to 3D and the Japanese voice lines were annoying for someone who speaks English, but I got used to it eventually. The silver and gold files were super clever and not having to redo puzzles was nice, but the puzzles in this game felt a lot worse than the first. There was a lot more times I got stuck and had to google something that I felt wasn’t super clear, but this could just be a skill issue.
It was a treat to see Clover again, and I loved Tenmouji, Phi, and especially Luna as characters, but Sigma felt like a weird protagonist. Junpei was just a regular guy, Sigma was kind of a pervy guy that wasn’t super liked. It took a little bit to heat up because there’s just so much game, but the twists were done incredibly well and the endings were amazing. Once I fully got into the story I was incredibly invested. It was hard to follow up on 999, but I thought the Ambidex game was a really clever way to keep the general plot of the series while moving in a new direction. It really pushed the believability of the game, but the characters, dialogue, and stories were strong enough to overcome the goofiness of it.
ZTD was great and a nice ending to the series, but it was even tougher to get into than VLR. After I got used to the 3D sprites of the last game, this game looked really jarring and having English dialogue made the game a lot slower than the previous games. I was shocked how upset I was that Phi’s voice was completely different than her Japanese voice. I thought Q’s, Akane’s, and Diana’s voice actors did really well to bring the cast to life. It was really nice seeing Junpei and Akane together again and interacting a bit with Sigma and Phi. Eric was the absolute worst. Dio was an antagonist, but he had a clear motive to sabotage everything. Eric was just a trigger-happy idiot that constantly ruined everything and I couldn’t buy into his sad past because he was so annoying. Junpei turned into kind of a loser which made me sad, but I liked his character arc and putting the ring on Akane’s right hand was one of my favorite moments of the series. I wish they had one more scene near the end where they embraced. Sean’s head reveal was the creepiest moment of the whole series for me, the design to have nothing there was genius and his scream made it haunting.
Diana was my favorite character and I’m glad she had a couple nice endings. It makes Luna’s existence in VLR incredibly sad though which bums me out. I do feel the twists in this game were kind of rushed however. Phi being Sigma’s daughter didn’t feel like it had to happen, but I did like that she was named after herself and got her own brooch in the past. Mira’s past came out of nowhere and was just brushed off for most of the story. I felt they were building to a big scene where the other characters gang up against Mira, but it’s mostly ignored. Delta being the villain could’ve been really good, but it was just so out of left field. I didn’t notice any mention of him being in the facility until he was just suddenly there and I thought it was really weak. He was a great character, but I think they should’ve foreshadowed it a little more.
The general story was a lot, but I thought they pulled it off even if it was kind of goofy. I was disappointed by the puzzles. It felt like there weren’t really any and the ones they had were pretty weird, but that’s also because this is the third game. The flow ended up being really confusing and I got stuck a couple different times where I eventually had to google my way out. This one felt like the most work to play, but I still had a great time and it was a good ending to the series.
Overall I thought 999 > VLR > ZTD, but every single game was great and added more fun characters to the story. I’m super interested to hear the community’s thoughts because I’ve been avoiding spoilers for the last month while playing. Thanks for reading and I’d love suggestions for games that are similar to these games in premise and quality

2024.04.30 01:41 No-Cartographer2512 What Scary Farm maze do you think is the most messed up and why?

I've been watching walkthroughs of the mazes lately and so far, I think the most messed up ones are the Tooth Fairy and Pinocchio Unstrung because of their storylines and since they're extremely graphic.

2024.04.29 20:48 Royal_Inflation_6842 Helpful criticism

Hey everyone, I'm Angel, and let me take you on a journey through my life growing up in foster care. No, it wasn't like the movie Annie. If it was, I'd probably be belting out show tunes and dancing on Broadway right now instead of standing here. But hey, at least I'd have killer vocals.
So, picture this: a spunky 13-year-old me, thrown into the chaotic world of foster care. It was like being dropped into the deep end of a pool without knowing how to swim. Scary? Definitely. But also strangely exhilarating. I mean, how many people can say they've lived through their own real-life drama series?
I spent a good chunk of my life in foster care – six years to be exact. It was like a rollercoaster ride, but instead of thrilling twists and turns, it was more like navigating a maze blindfolded. Still, I wouldn't trade my experience for the world. Well, maybe for a lifetime supply of pizza, but that's about it.
Living in an all-girls group home was an adventure, to say the least. Picture Mean Girls meets Survivor, with a sprinkle of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Yeah, it was that wild. I tried channeling my inner Regina George, but let's be real, I was more of a Cady Heron with a side of sarcasm and a penchant for bad puns.
And the counselors? Bless their hearts. They were like overworked superheroes trying to save the day one meltdown at a time. I once convinced a counselor that I was allergic to broccoli just to avoid eating it. Let's just say I've never seen anyone jump faster than when that plate of greens came my way.
Privacy? Forget about it. If you wanted to keep a secret, you might as well have tattooed it on your forehead. I tried hiding my stash of chocolate under my mattress once. Turns out, chocolate has a way of disappearing faster than my hopes of ever becoming a superhero. It's like the Hulk of sweets, only instead of smashing things, it just magically vanishes.
But you know what? Despite all the chaos and craziness, those girls became my sisters. We may have fought like cats and dogs, but at the end of the day, we had each other's backs. It was like having a built-in support system, except instead of a therapist, we had each other and a never-ending supply of cheesy jokes to lighten the mood. Because when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. And when life gives you a bunch of teenage girls, you make memories that last a lifetime.
So, yeah, growing up in foster care wasn't exactly a walk in the park. But hey, it made me who I am today – a sarcastic, pizza-loving, slightly dysfunctional comedian. And for that, I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks, foster care!"

2024.04.29 19:17 Finklemeire Overwatch University Episode 3 ft. Aid NineK Rush Rough Translations

This is NineKs episode dude gors off. Sorry for the delay Internet died so I'm going to be a lot more brief with this one. This took place before the OWCS Asia Finals so it might feel pointless but there is some crazy spice at the end I feel the drama lovers would enjoy. They are going to release a new episode very soon with Episode 4 ft. Coach Moon but for now get your Milk Ready NineK is bringing a lot of Spice.
Topic 1 Honey Pot
Aid: NineK you and I have a lot to say about this team don't we? Coach Rush I assume you haven't watched them?
Rush: I don't watch them
Aid: The Pacific region has gotten a lot better than what we used to think of them.
Rush: Stop your nonsense
Aid: No seriously the top teams at least are very good
NineK: Honestly they have gotten better I'm curious do you think they could beat the lower tier Korean teams?
Aid: Honestly they don't stand a chance against the top teams
NineK: But the top teams in Pacific could honestly contest the lower tier Korean teams. The balance is so off where the top korean teams are just way better than the rest of the lower ranked ones.
Aid: I agree the top Pacific teams I could see contesting the low to mid rank Korean teams. I'm actually very much looking forward to Nyang he's got very good mechanics from what I've seen. Curious how he will do. It's tough cause all of their first matches are against Koreans so it'll be tough. Most of the competition is probably just to see whether Pacific or Japan are better between each other.
NineK: We used to scrim Pacific a long time ago in the past
Aid: I thought that DAF would win to be honest but Honeypot came out and won instead.
NineK: I think right now the biggest issue the other teams will have at the Asia LAN is they won't be able to contest Koreas Tracer play. They won't be able to process it cause they haven't played against super Tracers Honestly you bring some of Koreas weaker Tracers to these other regions and they'd be one of the strongest players immediately. But Nyang seems really good. But don't you think with all the scrims available now that it's easier to get better? Like obviously tank is harder but
Aid: Like watching the top player vods and mimicking them
NineK: Tank might be hard but DPS should be easy to copy.
Aid: Healer should be easy as well. NineK: Really?
Aid: Yeah positioning is very important for healer so they can just copy that
NineK: Alright sure
Aid: Coach Rush you haven't watched any Pacific games?
Rush: Not i haven't I wont.won't.
Aid: Haha
Rush: I won't so stop stressing me out. Last week watching the West already made me already almost destroy my monitor. Topic 2: Varrel
Aid: This is Japan's number 1 team we saw them at OWWC as well. I can really feel this teams coordination. Like usually when I watch other regions I feel like they just play with mechanics but I can really see some coordination. I do feel like sometimes they play a little bit down to their opponents level.
NineK: To be honest there are plenty of teams that were strong but not completely dominant against weaker teams think of how not every Shanghai s1 game was a blow out either.
Rush: Honestly feel in 5v5 it's gotten closer since there's less room for a thrower to ruin it.
NineK: I've felt the opposite
Rush: Thing is it's a lot brawlier in 5v5 so a good player can make it easier. Like I watch older VODs and think how did they win with this player
Aid: Coach what do you think about the Japanese team.
Rush: These players are too old. Overwatch is getting more popular in the region so I think they would be better investing in new talent. These guys have been together how long? Like at least when the older Chinese players who have been around forever together they made huge upsets and won a lot. Think it's time to go for the newer talent
Aid: I hear that OW is getting really popular in Japan and hear people are hoping that new talent will pop up and be really good.
Rush: That's what I mean start scouting the future players out early and stick one or two of them into your team to develop them.
Aid: KSG feels really good for them
Rush: Oh he's like 20 that's good.
Aid: Pacific or Japan?
NineK: From what I've seen Pacific is better
Aid: I agree
NineK: The problem is from what I've seen is the tanks in the Pacific haven't impressed me at all
Aid: I think their dps is really good rather than the tanks while I felt the opposite for Japan where I think their tanks are really good.
NineK: Tank is so important foe the team I think if the Japanese tanks really pressure and outperform their Pacific counterparts it might be the difference maker.
Rush: But the Pacific regions tank is an ex-Overwatch League player
NineK: But he's really bad
Rush: How could you say he's bad.
NineK: But like don't you think if we're being realistic that the Pacific teams will just hope to do better than Japan?
Aid: I think the same thing. Obviously Korea is on another level but "we should at least be better than pacific" "at least we should beat japan" like no one wants to be the worst region of the 3 right?
Rush: I think the games layout right now is kind of boring
Aid: I agree the brackets laid out so you just know all the Korean teams will win immediately.
Rush: We were going to say this later but in the end the top korean teams are going to play each other any ways for the top slots so it just feels wasted time with the match ups they decided on.
NineK: But don't you think what they're going for is more so letting teams that haven't faced off play against each other.
NineK: Didn't people always complain about this in the ow tournaments where all the Asian teams only chose each other and west with each other during mixed tournies? I can understand the the rationale here.
Rush: The best seeds from each region pick one opponent and moving on would be cool NineK: I mean at the end of the day if the games are boring and uninteresting that'd be on the teams for being too weak
Aid: Well if you're just stating facts bluntly like that sure.
NineK: It's not like the organizers can go up to the teams and say you weak teams play each other so it'll be closer.
Rush: But for sports you need to let some of the weaker teams have more help-
NineK: Coach! How many times have we complained about this very issue Blizzard always helping the weak team.
Aid: Yeah I remember that one OWL season we were asking ourselves just how many frigging teams are they gonna allow into play offs?
NineK: One thing I always hated about Blizzard is they never listened to the top teams suggestions.
Rush: They do listen I felt they listen to everyone
NineK: Well I guess it's just Philly and Shock they didn't ever listen to.
Aid: Haha moving on
Topic 3: Falcons
Aid: The number 1 team. I haven't heard anything recently about them in scrims so I'm not sure how it's going for them
NineK: But at the end of that team and WAC and wait what's their name
Aid: Raccoon
NineK: Won't those two teams just go back and forth. Back and forth for their rivalry? Rush: Who knows they could just randomly lose
NineK: Okay but it's dangerous to lose here.
Aid: (Reads chat) Oh there's rumors of Wrecking Ball being played?
NineK: He's useful
Rush: Violet mentioned it in an interview for their media day.
NineK: Until Violet quits he is number 1 in my heart.
Aid: (reading chat) Donghak would want to defeat Falcons no matter what.
NineK: Wouldn't FTG want to beat Crazy Raccoons no matter what for the last games results as well? Cause they got picked by them and then lost.
Aid: Yeah they'd be missed like damn you called me weak and then beat me.
NineK: But in regard to Falcons does it matter Ball or Orisa they'd be good.
Aid: Then isn't Hanbin just benched
Rush: No I believe in the Crusty Crack Pipe something weird will come out
NineK: Like Mauga Bastion? Or Symm Rush: If I believe in the Crusty Crackpipe I bet we will see Hanbinston again
Aid: But if it's true Ball is being played that hero pops Winstons. Wrecking Ball wise wouldn't it obviously be Smurf in?
Rush: You're underestimating that Crusty Magic. We might see Hanbin Wrecking Ball.
NineK: But Smurf was benched during GOATs right? I sat with him and told him to just grind the he'll out of Orisa and Wrecking Ball. He practiced it so much
Aid: But what if with the new changes Hanbin is like "I think I might be really good at Wrecking Ball though"
Rush: That's usually when I smack the shit out of Hanbin
Aid: That's true every time a new tank comes out Hanbin thinks he's the best in the world at that hero.
NineK: I've heard he dropped that mindset
Rush: No he's just cosplaying being humble
NineK: You know that thing where you pretend to be all weak then get put in and carry to be a super hero.
Rush: But if you look at all the games it's the best time for them to try out all the joke comps.
NineK: But imagine they did that tomorrow and then they lose lol.
Aid: But do you think Crusty is the type to say this is a real game play super serious or this game will be easy let's have fun?
NineK: There's definitely a bit of showmanship to his picks besides there's been instances of us choosing to off role people too. Notably Rascal was a really good Bap and Brig for us on Shock. Remember when Brig used to become meta people would just put the DPs players on that hero?
Topic 4: Bracket
Aid: Falcons vs DAF won't this be easy
NineK: The way I had this is FTG getting to GF and Falcons from the lower side will-
Rush: NineK we ain't doing it like that go game by game
Aid: Dude why are you planning out a whole movie where FTG wins
Aid: Anyways I'm taking Falcons
Rush: If I'm Crusty I'm trolling
Aid: I mean this is an obvious 3-0 NineK: Yeti vs Varrel I wonder if they'll go dive
Rush: If I'm Yeti I wouldn't do the Orisa against this team. If I'm them I'm confident to win regardless of if I'm playing Orisa or not. Regardless if I'm Yeti I'm just focused on getting to Dallas and then worrying about the meta
Aid: Maybe they'll just go Wrecking Ball NineK: Donghak is known for his Ball it makes sense
Rush: I've never seen it in game but there is definitely a difference between a real Wrecking Ball and the main tanks just using the hero. The real Balls are genuinely scary
NineK: That Chinese player
Aid: Ameng?
Rush: He played the older version of the hero so he isn't scary. I mean he got replaced by Gaga
NineK: Gaga was really good
Aid: So what's the score. We all agree Yeti goes up. 3-0? Is there a hope of them stealing one round?
NineK: There's no hope of it unless Yeti randomly imploded
NineK: For Honeypot vs FTG isn't there a chance Violet underestimates his opponent and Honeypot get a game?
Aid: so if they lose a map it's Violet's fault? So 3-1?
NineK: If he trolls only.
Aid: So they win?
NineK: If they lose they should retire. Aid: I thought Insomnia was good but they've kind of fallen off a bit so 3-0 for Crazy Raccoons.
Aid: Struggling with the bracket maker
NineK: Cmon Aid do better as the host, study up on it or something.
Aid: Winners Bracket Falcon vs Yeti what do you expect?
NineK: No idea
Rush: What are we supposed to do with that
Aid: It's for fun if we were to get the bracket right I'd have been better off buying a lotto ticket
NineK: Well for my ideal scenario Falcons has to go loser side so I'm going for Yeti over Falcons 3-2
Rush: Isn't it usually a loss for Yeti if they get to game 5s?
NineK: Fine 3-1
Aid: What do you think Coach Rush?
Rush: Just go Yeti
Aid: Crazy Raccoon vs FTG. Honestly the way I see it when you look at how FTG and CR play there's no way FTG ever wins.
Rush: Will NineKs love Violet have changed enough to get them the win?
NineK: Never the beauty of Violet is he's always just going to play like Violet.
Aid: I feel like there's basically no hope FTG wins this.
NineK: I acknowledge that. The way I see it there's no member who will pull out something interesting.
Aid: Yeah they play very standard Overwatch and I don't think they can beat Crazy Raccoons like that
NineK: I agree it's probably guaranteed.
Aid: 3-0 for me
NineK: But for my scenario FTG wins 3-2
Rush: I think Crazy Raccoon as well
Aid: Anyways despite NineKs vision we will go CR
NineK: Curious about the meta though there's talk about Ball though.
Rush: I doubt Ball will get played to the level of being meta
NineK: Ball Ana Zen might work
Rush: That's comp gets destroyed by a TPed Orisa
Aid: DAF vs Varrel in lower bracket that finals in Japan was good
NineK: I put Varrel
Rush: I have no idea I didn't watch it. I managed to watch EU and NA at least but haven't seen Pacific and Japan
Aid: Honey Pot vs Insomnia is a quick 3-0 for Honeypot
Aid: Falcons vs Varrel is a 3-0 and so is FTG vs Honeypot
Aid: Falcons vs FTG this is harder NineK: I think Falcons loser side power beats FTG
Aid: But you said you believe in the power of Violet
NineK: If you wanted go off my imagination then you should've had them winning in upper bracket
Aid: Those kids have experience doing losers runs so 3-1
NineK: So then them vs Yeti
Aid: Oh you think Raccoons beats Yeti?
NineK: Yeah unless Donghak goes crazy and punches them down if CR go down Falcons absolutely beat them and move on but if Yeti comes down they also lose
Aid: Crazy Raccoon is obvious though I bet they got it together after losing a finals right
NineK: Yes for sure but we aren't trying to match the obvious future we wanna have fun with it and I'm imagining Yeti winning.
Rush: Yeti wins for sure lol
Aid: So 3-2?
Rush: No 3-1 if it goes to 5 Yeti always loses if they go to finals they lose
NineK: They go up 3 and get reverse swept
Rush: They don't look like winners.
NineK: This is the real game
Rush: If you're a man you feel a nervousness/anticipation when you meet your match like this
NineK: I feel like if they meet upper bracket WAC I mean Raccoons wins but losers side I have Falcons
Rush: I have no idea if I could just see Day 1 I feel like I'd at least know.
Aid: We aren't claiming to be prophetic with this just having fun and sprinkling our own bias for who we are rooting for
NineK: I don't think Rush would have a team he roots for more
Rush: I don't do you Aid?
Aid: No not really
NineK: Then why you ask us that
Rush: I'm rooting for Toronto
Aid: What does chat think? CR or Falcons wow chat is very into Falcons
Rush: Yeti vs Falcons is definitely Falcons. They just don't have the ability to clutch tournament wins yet.
NineK: They turn it around here and go on to win
Aid: Falcons wins
Topic 5 Esports World Cup
Just starts with a lot of talk trying to understand the bracket and if an Asian team wins Dallas Asia gets a 5th slot. Speculating on Team from China. Aid wishes the Chinese will get to compete permanently again.
Aid: Guxue is really good
Rush: They have Gaga as well
Aid: Between the two I feel like Guxue has way better juggles
Rush: Fearless and Gaga are actually very friendly
NineK: Really?
Aid: They were on the same team in the Shanghai academy team. I want Chinese OW back.
Rush: Honestly I thought they would just straight invite some Saudi teams it's their tournament
Topic 6: Clash
Aid: I find it more fun than Flashpoint but the point goes too quick
Rush: Yeah it's way too fast you'd want like at least 2 fights. It's fun but it feels way too simple in design.
Topic 7: Hero Bans
NineK is very in favor of it and loves that it also stops mirrors Aid believes it looks promising but would like to see it play out first Rush believes we should watch to see how it works in EU NA
Topic 8: Streamer Tournament in Korea
Skipping this but basically Korean streamers tried overwatch and NineK coached them
Topic 9: The West (Get your Milk Ready for the Spice)
Aid: Ex Oblivione and Timeless lost and it caused a mess online.
Rush: Honestly ExO was fine. It was just a good game with one side coming out on top. But Timeless doesn't have the right so go up.
Aid: But last stage they got 2nd
Rush: I was watching the game and got so missed off I turned off the VOD literally don't have the right to win. Anyway Supershy and ExO was a good game back and forth
Aid: I noticed a lot of new players so maybe there's a new generation of players rising up now.
NineK: But Timeless can't ever win because of Cjay
Rush: It's not Cjay Timeless just has no thoughts to win at all. They win a fight and give up all the space. No thought to initiate all they do is meet peoples initiation. They literally aren't even thinking of winning.
NineK: Maybe they just don't know any better
Rush: Is that possible? There's so many VODs you can watch to learn from like from the very get go and basics they're just giving no thought to winning. So I can't point to Cjay soecifically as the weakness.
NineK: He doesn't heal
Rush: They give this feel of when they have both DPS all they do is sit around until their damage players do something for them.
NineK: What if their DPS want to go forward but Cjay is like "stop moving up dude it's harder to heal you then"
Rush: Then why doesn't the tank move up
NineK: The West kind of has a strange loose hierarchy system so it could just be the supports telling them to stay back and they listen
Rush: So when I saw ExO and they move forward when they want to and such but nothing from Timeless. Turn on the replay of the game for us
Aid: Sure I'll do it anything you wanna see in particular.
Rush: Just put and map from the game up you'll see it immediately.
Aid: Pulls up Oasis in Timeless vs Citrus Nation
Rush: Watch this it's insane. The tank just leaves point and goes back closer to their own spawn after they won a fight and they lose the point. This is what I meant they have no intention of winning. Like even when they win fights it doesn't feel like they're winning.
NineK: (Dumbfounded watching the VOD) Can you pull up Cjays POV
Rush: Stop picking on him lol I'm feeling bad
Aid: We can tell from the overhead view already
NineK: He has no common sense. How on Earth were they taught to play like this
Rush: They're randomly everywhere with no plans at all. They never initiate anything.
Aid: I can already tell exactly how it's gonna go like this
Rush: Their strategy is the DPS carry
NineK: No strategy and their positioning is so awful. (CJAY DIES)
NineK: Wait zoom in on that right there see what I mean
Aid: Moving on
NineK: Pull it up before I get pissed off turn it on turn it on turn it on
Rush: Poor Cjay
Aid: (Cjay stands wide open and gets killed) wow no fear
NineK: Can you guys hold back seeing that?!?!?! He must just not have ears to hear sound queues. It's just sooooo bad.
Aid: I think he needs to go onto the Streamer Tournament and learn from the experience
NineK: This guy can't be taught to be better.
Aid: His positioning given where they would come from makes no sense in any FPS
NineK: I'm not joking when I say I can't fathom how awful he's playing (just depressed watching more of the VOD)
NineK: And you just know they're thinking "shit we played well" Fuck off
Aid: Cmon NineK chill a bit we are literally on Episode 3.
NineK: They play like this and their Coach has the nerve to say Overwatch League teams are lucky he never got picked up
Rush: Woah woah woah he could be a great coach and no one is listening
Aid: Agreed with that amount of confidence he must be good
Rush: (watching Map 2) No thought whatsoever running through their heads
Aid: Man I wish Dallas would come by
NineK: Watching this there's a reason Vegas Eternal and Valiant was so terrible humans with no right to go pro are cosplaying here having a high SR really isn't everything.
Aid: (Reading chat telling him this is why Gunba refused to do collegiate coaching) That's toxic lol.
NineK: Gunba has a title though.
Rush: Didn't Masaa say Gunba told him to play more like Violet?
NineK: I saw that and laughed. But Gunba loves to bark orders at his players and think that he's always correct. I've heard from a lot of his ex-players he would literally be completely wrong about something so they ignored him
Rush: Gunbas won a title so we can't criticize him please stop
NineK: True we don't know if it's cause of his words they won
Rush: Gunba is the best
Aid: Gunba Nunber 1
Rush: Gunba the Best
NineK: Coach of the Year
Aid: Wait how do you die to that as Orisa NineK: This is why I left the League. Cause I hated playing people like this.
Aid: Isn't it cause of the League dying you left the league?
NineK: That too but seeing players and games like this there's no hope for Overwatch. How long has Cjaybeen active look that up Aid.
Aid: Right now with this VOD running I can't help but just watch your reaction instead
NineK: Like if you've watched your own VOD shouldn't you be able to tell this is wrong
Aid: They might think they're just very good
Rush: Or the coach is at fault
NineK: He's been playing since 2019
Rush: The coach told him to play like this
NineK: The coach td him to not heal and throw kunai of course
Aid: could of said it like this (No Head Go Home)
Rush: For this style of Kiriko if they hit all heads hots you do win
NineK: So he's widowmaker not kiriko
Aid: Then he should talk to Teru that guy was good at DPS kiriko
Rush: Look at this they're a man up and not pushing at all. Citrus Nation at least push forward
NineK: I dont know the rest but I've seen a lot of the two sojourn players. The way I see it OW in NA and EU support and tank is dead no talent coming up just give up if you aren't a DPS
Aid: I was curious there are such few good supports from the West
NineK: Funny ASTRO was good
Aid: Yeah but he's a Lucio one trick Rush: I don't really get this topic there's no good new players either
Aid: There's are plenty of good flex supports
NineK: We mean new ones there are none. OW 2 tank and supporters are a lot harder. These guys don't know they're bad. There aren't any good coaches either. (Outside of the well-known former OWL ones)
Aid: Go to the West and coach them.
NineK: I hate this kind of Overwatch. You know why I'm so pissed off? I worked really hard to learn the game and come up with strategies but these guys just cackle with each other mash the buttons and run into each other. The coaches just say "heal better hit more headshots" like why are you even coaching at that point and why are you a pro player
Aid: There could be a diamond in the rough in there
NineK: This is just pathetic.
Rush: If all of Overwatch was played like this the game would be so boring tbh. I genuinely don't know what the tank here is doing.
NineK: You know I've seen a lot of players who have had different coaches before and you know what they say? (They roll back to Opener dying)
NineK: So you see the situation? The bad coaches don't talk about what leads to the death just about him dying "just do better" "just heal amp here" they just coach from the perspective of criticizing the results they see on screen. All they talk about his how you should've done this one thing to not die and all it does is make your players much more hesitant. Like when I was coaching the Streamer league I basically told them there's no correct answer for using your Lucio ult correctly. That can't be drilled. But these bad coaches love to hyper focus on telling their players they had a bad beat and to work on it there are so many people who shouldn't be allowed to coach. Like Oh you scored a goal you're good just play like this guy and you'll be good too.
Aid: Day 1 OW feedback level.
Rush: I wonder who the shot caller is for this team and how they think.
Aid: Well it's the tanks fault since this team just follows mither duck in a line.
Rush: But like it could be that usually your tank calls a lot for setting up the fight and someone else is just telling him to pull back
NineK: That's probably Cjay
Aid: Jeez
NineK: I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight from anger
Rush: I saw the first map thought it was a fluke and they played the same way in Map 2 and turned it off.
NineK: Am I the weird one? Like this pissed me off so much. These guys were NA rank 2

2024.04.29 17:08 nomass39 Something terrible happened at my school, but no one else seems to care.

“Mister Vermeil?” Katie called, raising her hand. “I think I saw a man with a gun outside.”
There is no combination of words more perfectly calibrated to turn a teacher’s blood to ice.
The horror only settled deeper in my chest when I watched my kids go crowding around the windows, chattering excitedly amongst themselves like a shooting star was going by. “I don’t see him! Where is he?” “Oh, he’s right there, behind the tree!” “What’s he look like? What’s he doing?”
I couldn’t see a thing out there, myself. The thick, oppressive blanket of mountain fog that always settled on this school made visibility low in the best of times. All I could see was that endless ocean of trees disappearing into that vast backdrop of white. But I trusted my students, and took their reports dead seriously. “Get down!” I finally shouted once I’d worked out the knot in my throat. “Get down under the windows! Don’t let him see you!”
It was the first time I’d raised my voice at these kids, and that scared them more than the man outside. The room was a cacophony of squeaking chairs and shoved desks as they rushed to huddle under the windows. All the while, my heart was pounding in my ears as I scrambled to pull the velcro straps over every window that would release the safety shutters.
Every instant, I felt certain some homicidal maniac was about to take my head off with a .308 Winchester. I wasn’t even just scared to die. I was scared of my students being forced to witness something like that.
But I got lucky — or maybe he had mercy.
The only way to reach the headmistress’ personal phone was an old-school red telephone sat on my desk, with a bit of tape reading ‘FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY’. She’d always been very particular that she be called instead of the police in times like these. All I had to do was punch in *66, and she picked up in an instant.
I’m embarrassed to imagine what I must’ve sounded like. The incomprehensible verbal diarrhea of a man who’d never dealt with a situation more deadly than a bicycle crash or a high fever. But luckily, she seemed to parce together exactly what I was getting at. And her stoic, commanding tone silenced my babbling in an instant.
“It will be dealt with.”
Sirens. Sirens started blaring all over school like it was about to be leveled by a tornado, or maybe nuclear armageddon. Under the din, my students all frantically whispered to eachother, trying to guess at what was going on. ’He’s a hunter,’ was the consensus. That almost calmed me down. If he was just some hunter after the elk and mule deer up here in the Rockies, then no biggie, right? But for some reason, the word ‘hunter’ seemed to strike the kids with terror.
Outside, I heard the screech of tires and two rear doors being slammed open. My curiosity peaked. I’d seen that black van labeled ‘SECURITY’ parked in the lot, but never gotten a glimpse inside. Despite all my better judgment, I couldn’t resist the tiniest peek under the corner of a shutter.
Out of the van poured two individuals dressed less like school security guards, and more like the sort of shadowy government agents you’d see in movies: black suits, shades and earpieces fitting their perfect combovers. I think what I saw them do next was the moment that forever changed me — forever shattered my delusion that the universe is ultimately a rational and orderly place.
The two guards checked off their equipment, dropped to all fours, and broke into a sprint.
Under other circumstances, it would have been laughable. As it was, it stole my breath away. They ran not even like primates would, but with the exact speed and style of wolves — they must’ve been going fifteen miles per hour minimum. Human bodies just don’t work that way. We can’t twist our bodies in such a way to allow ourselves to full-bore gallop at that kind of speed. Our joints weren’t meant to bend in those directions.
They disappeared into the forest like hunting dogs let loose upon the scent of prey. I jumped, and a gasp spread across the room as a gunshot erupted in those woods. And then another. Two shots total, echoing down the foggy valleys of the mountain, scaring away the crows. Then came the long silence as I held my breath, waiting to see if the nightmare was all over, or just beginning.
And then the screaming began.
It started as a rumbling murmer, one I couldn’t place. Then it acquired peaks and troughs, reaching pitches that managed to strain my ears. At its height, it almost seemed louder than the gunshots had been. It was a man’s voice, at least at first — but then it devolved into something that didn’t sound human at all. Like his vocal chords had been ripped into, and the only sounds he could still produce was to bay like a dying animal.
Yet somehow, even that didn’t horrify me as much as my student’s reactions. They seemed… relieved. Even laughing amongst themselves, as if this proved we were out of danger. The screams dulled, the sirens disappeared, and my students returned to their seats, staring at me as if expecting me to continue the lesson.
It was all so surreal, like something out of a dream. Never before in my life have I been surrounded by people, yet felt so utterly alone.
I tried not to break down in front of my own students. But unlike my class, I couldn’t just move past what had happened, like it’d all been no big deal. So, like a sleepwalking man acting on instinct, I did the first thing I could think of: I called the headmistress again.
Her tone was flat, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. “Vermeil.”
I wanted to scream at her, but words failed me. I was panting like a dog. “I… I need…” I took a drink of water with a shaky hand. “I need to know what that… what that was.”
“Mister Vermeil, this phone is only to be used in the case of emergencies—“
“Emergency!? This isn’t an emergency!? There was a shootout outside my classroom! Where’s the police? The press?”
“They’re not coming,” she said sternly. “It was all a false alarm. Nobody was hurt.”
“Nobody was hurt!? Are you hearing yourself!? I heard a man wail like he was being fed feet first into a meat—“ I caught myself, glancing at my class. “If you had heard the things I’ve heard, you wouldn’t be so—“
“When I employed you under the auspices of the Integration Initiative, it was because I was assured of your dedication to teaching. Surely you recognize the importance of not allowing your class to fall even a day behind the schedule outlined in the syllabus? We cannot allow every minor incident to interfere with their-“
“Minor incident!? Am I the only one here who hasn’t lost their mind!? If this is what you consider ‘routine’, then I don’t want to know—“
“Mister. Vermeil.” She spoke in that tone that always silenced me, as if she commanded my very mind. In the silence, she let out a long sigh. When her voice returned, I couldn’t tell if she was leveling with me, or humoring me. “Tell you what. I can tell you’ve had a stressful day. Why don’t you take the rest of it off? I can have a substitute fill in while you get some rest, okay?”
I wanted to argue, to scream and shout. But I realized how my students were looking at me, and noticed the tears on my cheeks.
Needless to say, I did end up taking the day off. All the while, I agonized over whether to quit. I mean, this was supposed to be my big break. My first real teaching job since the incident a few years back. No more tutoring, no more subbing. Getting to head my very own class and create my own lesson plans.
I spent the night on the couch watching the news like a hawk. It was all still small town nonsense — a cat stuck in a tree, a charming local bake sale. Not a word about whatever had happened in that school on the mountainside.
The headmistress’ gaslighting was starting to work on me. If nobody saw anything wrong with what had happened… then the problem must be me, right? I must have misinterpreted everything. There had to have been some reasonable explanation for what I’d seen and heard.
So the next morning, it was right back to work.
The thing is, I’ve never gotten a good explanation for what the ‘Integration Initiative’ was. I’d assumed it was some sort of remedial education program. After all, the bulk of my class was severely behind by fifth grade standards. Many needed to learn basic social behaviors, properly expressing their emotions, how to read or write, or even how to speak at all.
The Hastings twins, for instance. They were brother and sister, or so I’ve been told, but near impossible to tell apart. They were both so androgynous, with flawless pale skin totally free of even a single strand of hair — even eyebrows. And they never emoted, never reacted. Never even blinked. If you didn’t know any better, you’d assume they were mannequins set up at their desks, positioned to stare at me in perfect stillness as I taught.
But they were just one of the more extreme examples. A few were more like normal kids, just a little behind. Katie, for instance.
When I had a quiet moment in class that day, I noticed her completing a maze in her coloring book with a crayon, and beckoned her over. She sat politely across from me as I composed myself. “Katie. I just wanted to say… you were very brave to speak up yesterday. I know that must have been scary. School is supposed to be a safe place. If you ever need to talk to me about anything, you can just let me know, okay?”
She stared at me for a moment. And then said, as casually as you’d discuss the weather, “I hope he suffered.”
There was a long silence.
I blinked, trying to register what I’d heard. “What?”
“I hope he died real slow,” she continued. Her face was blank, her tone flat. “I hope they took their time with him. I hope that he felt every moment of it.”
I wiped the sweat from my brow. “That’s… that’s not…”
“He was a hunter, Mister Vermeil. He deserved it,” she insisted. “I hope they hurt him really, really badly. I hope they took him somewhere so they can keep him alive. I hope they’re taking away his fingernails and his teeth and his eyes, and he’s crying and screaming and—“
“Katie,” I suddenly cut in. “Do you remember how we talked about… no-no subjects?”
She nodded. After all, we’d spent a lot of time in class discussing what was appropriate to say. I continued, trying to hide the quiver in my voice. “Well… it’s not appropriate to… to talk about, you know, death and… suffering.”
It was like a switch flipped. In an instant, Katie went right back to being just an ordinary little girl. “Oh! Sorry, Mister Vermeil! I’ll remember that for next time!” And just like that, she went right back to her desk, leaving me dazed and stunned like I’d just been punched in the teeth.
Even now, I can’t help but wonder what she meant by ‘next time’.
I’ve learned my lesson. Never talk about what happened to anyone. Never even mention it. And the same goes for any other strange oddities I’m beginning to notice around the school — like the ditch full of the shed skins of something much larger than any reptile we have up here in Colorado, or the sound of loud TV static emanating from a bathroom I’m 100% certain had no television. All of it’s completely normal to everyone around me.
But I can’t get it out of my mind. I still check the news and Google obsessively, but can’t find the slightest mention of anything off about this place. I did, however, notice something on Facebook.
Someone local was asking whether anybody had seen her brother, William. A heavyset man with a big, bushy beard, who’d gone missing without even his PLB being able to report any location. The post had been made the day after the incident I’d witnessed.
Apparently, the last time they’d spoken, William said that he was going out on a hunting trip.

2024.04.29 15:51 Charity00 The Amazing Race 23 - Review

I’ve decided to rewatch every Amazing Race and rank them all.
*************************************
SEASON 23 gets a 6/10
*************************************
This season had some good aspects but felt underwhelming overall so is ranked near the bottom. The cast was average besides 3 teams (Leo/Jamal, Tim/Marie, Nicole/Travis who were all pretty dynamic), the route was average (no new countries or anything unique), challenges were okay but few standouts, winners were very forgettable and drama was okay but nothing special. It was an enjoyable season (so gets a 6) but not much stands out as ‘fantastic’.

General Thoughts

Route
*************************************
Cast Ranking
1.Leo/Jamal - the Afganimals were the obvious fan favorites! They aren’t for everyone - they do ham it up for the cameras A LOT (Yelling LALALALA, dancing, imitating the elephants and being LOUD) but I still liked their enthusiasm and fun commentary like joking that Ally/Ashley were their race wives (“My wife is flying off with another man” when paragliding). They were also sneaky (such as “My wife is pregnant”) and lied just for the fun of it (lying about not U-Turning Brandon/Adam, lying about the challenge taking hours, lying about Tim/Marie being ahead). But I appreciate teams that cause friction and some drama…while also managing to be likeable and providing some laughs. Also somewhat became a “final boss” at the end where every other team wanted them out and worked together to do so.
  1. Tim/Marie - were the next big characters! Their banter and roasting each other was hilarious (“I didn’t know they made voices as shrill as yours” - “Well I didn’t know they made people as dumb as you” haha) and Marie was such a ballsy and wacky individual who claims she’s “always right” and demanded a 60-40 split of the winnings haha It’s fascinating having 2 individuals who hate eachother (the Japanese host saying “American love story” but Marie calling them “American horror story” haha) but I sort of picture them being fun friends in a way. Besides their bickering, Marie was also pushy at the start trying to leverage the Express Pass at every chance (“Remember we have an Express Pass”) and not afraid to steal a taxi (and blame Leo/Jamal). She was petty and bitchy but also aware of it “I’m mad because they did something I would have done”. Sometimes their fights came off as playing up for the camera but still witty and entertaining! And a pretty strong team too!
  2. Nicole/Travis - had one of the most unique storylines in that they started off as these likeable and dominant “power parents” but the second half they were a disaster - Nicole freaked out at multiple challenges and Travis was impatient and tough on her. Possibly the biggest editing nosedive of a team ever - and I found it fascinating! They weren’t necessarily likeable but I liked Nicole mentioning “Express Pass” EVERY episode, hilariously blackmailing Tim/Marie for it, plus some sassy looks! They got a hypocritical edit where they wanted to be role models for their kids…but were then shown not being that honourable (Nicole trying to cheat off Leo and begging for help is one of my favorite moments) and were carried to the end by their allies Jason/Amy. Also Travis previously mentioned about staying unflustered and wanting their children to see them working together well haha I much prefer a messy team like this than the actual inspirational ones.
  3. Nicky/Kim - had everything needed to be a ‘likeable underdog team’ but I found them hard to root for because they were “baseball wives” rather than “regular people”. But I still liked them. They weren’t huge characters but were very sweet, endearing, and actually quite independent and strategic, like plotting with Tim/Marie and then getting in front of the counter. They weren’t pampered divas AT ALL like many expected. They also felt down to earth with some witty comments such as “she's like Cameron Diaz in my best friend's wedding” at the opera challenge and getting excited “Our cab has pink on it” haha. Some cute moments like “We’re not bunnies anymore…we are ninjas” but after struggling at that wave pool “I think we’ll just go back to being bunnies” haha Enjoyed seeing them scrape through each week.
  4. Jason/Amy - I’m not a fan of the “generic couple” archetype and Jason/Amy were basically just that, and they weren’t that interesting or memorable. However I ranked them higher because of their role in a few dramas like their fight when Tim/Marie stole their taxi, as well as their alliance with Nicole/Travis. Helping other teams at the final 4 created some interesting discussions, especially when Nicole/Travis were a bigger threat than Ally/Ashley. I remember Jason randomly asking if Indonesians were like Asians or Indians haha But forgettable as characters.
  5. Tim/Danny - had the “needs the money” backstory and a very sad elimination with Tim struggling at the choir challenge (arguably unfair because Tim was just a terrible singer so not sure if he could have done much better). Team Oklahoma had some good banter dressing up as the couple (“wanting rock scissors paper” to determine who was the woman, humorously arguing and suggesting things like 1 was smaller or more attractive as a woman) and helped Ally/Ashley with their truck..but nothing special. Not overly memorable but still a likeable team!
  6. Brandon/Adam - another fun likeable male team who always seemed to be enjoying the race…and lived in the woods. A few fun confessionals and making their own fishing rods to fish on the boat in Norway. Started out strong (including a 1st place before their elimination) but had 1 bad leg with a bad Detour choice and a U-Turn. In a way I liked these shock eliminations. Similar to Tim/Danny in that they were likeable but not that memorable.
  7. Rowan/Shane - had some fun moments like “Phil don’t fall asleep” when they finally arrived at the pit stop, “My name is not Rowan for nothing” when rowing and telling Shane to stop talking on the bikes because they are wasting “air” haha. We don’t see “2 older goofy men” often and I like older, unfit teams who are a bit of a disaster. Team Bingo were wacky and funny like a modern Steve/Dave. They had a disaster of a leg - wrong bus, hilariously taking a local shoe shiner’s cart (one of the best moments of the season) and calling Marie “el diablo” haha One of the more memorable early boots and would have been unique characters if they somehow lasted longer.
  8. Ally/Ashley - they were the “dumb blondes” but pretty forgettable and just didn’t have any charisma like Caroline/Jennifer or Liz/Marie. One of them wanted to find love…but was then reminded that she had a boyfriend haha plus calling Abu Dhabi “Abu Dubai” and were edited as just riding Leo/Jamal’s coattails. I actually would have liked them more if they had more dumb moments - they weren’t great racers, but not in a funny way. And Nicky/Kim were definitely the more endearing underdog team. They had a big fight in their elimination episode and would have been more entertaining if they were like this more often.
  9. Naina/Hoskote - felt less mactorish and had a storyline of Hoskote wanting an arranged marriage for his daughter and being old fashioned. If they lasted longer, they could have had a Ron/Christina type storyline with Hoskote showing signs of being “real truth flavour” haha, and there was some very mild bickering in leg 1. However they didn’t really stand out in their 1 leg and didn’t have much of an interesting storyline or a memorable elimination.
  10. ChesteEphraim - seemed fun and likeable in their short stay with “We’re heavy, it’s gonna take a mountain of salt to make us float”, “You were easy to spot - you looked like a military jeep under the parachute” and comparing themselves to the Beekman Boys when struggling at the airport. They came in 1st in leg 2 and were a shock elimination in leg 3 with their bad luck with their flight connections and delays. Were eliminated at the airport after falling a day behind! Usually find it hard to root for alpha male teams (especially former athletes) so that’s the main thing that separates them from the teams ranked just above them (2 blondes and a fathedaughter team).

Leg Rankings
1.Leg 9 - Indonesia (F5 - Ally/Ashley eliminated) - a fantastic leg that sets up the final 5 so well with a chaotic location in Bandung, trains, cultural animal tasks (ram fighting, making birds sing, feeding elephants), drama (Leo/Jamal vs Nicole/Travis over the U-Turn), great detour (Ally/Ashley not going to the market first, teams hilariously trying to fit sugarcane into taxis…the poor taxi drivers), Ally/Ashley arguing and pleading for help, and some placement shifts at both the Detour and Road Block. The best part was the storyline of Nicole/Travis being like “we want to be a beacon for God’s light” and continually critiquing Leo/Jamal for playing unethically….and then ending with Nicole’s hilarious meltdown at the anklung Road Block (hypocritically trying to look at Leo’s, getting frustrated with the children “Don’t laugh, you have to help the lady” haha, Travis groaning in disappointment “She doesn’t know an octave is 8”). Tense ending with Nicole begging Amy to help her with Ally/Ashley getting closer!
  1. Leg 5 - Poland (F8 - Brandon/Adam eliminated) - navigation dramas, great tasks, U-Turn drama, great location in Gdansk, banter between teams, Express Pass used and lots of action. The Express Pass cliffhanger is resolved haha The polish dance was fun with Tim/Danny bantering about being the woman and struggling “I’m a white body with 2 left feet…and I have 3 left feet” haha and the judge “don’t fight with each other” and Tim ripping his pants. The huge apartment building Road Block was basic but had some fun moments between teams - Some teams working together, Tim and Jason randomly dancing, Travis pressing the elevator on every floor for Kim haha and Tim having to warn Marie that you can get a penalty for “bad manners”. Plus some nice interactions with locals. Some navigational issues and Brandon/Adam get tricked by Jason/Amy’s taxi driver haha Brandon/Adam had a disastrous leg after finishing 1st at the “Keep on Racing” (shock elimination). Great episode but misses #1 because it had bigger moments.
  2. Leg 11 - Japan (F4 - Leo/Jamal eliminated) - a very exciting final 4 elimination with some great inter-team drama! A few too many wacky Japanese tasks though rather than cultural tasks - walking vending machines, crazy game shows, jump into a telephone box filled with water, cat temple, capturing a rhino in a suit, and a robot greeter. Detour was too easy for a final 4 (especially answering the phone underwater - awful) and the rhino Speed Bump was embarrassing…but I loved the robot Road Block - placement shifts, Amy and Nicole working together, Amy staying behind to help Nicole who was freaking out again, and Travis ridiculing Nicole afterwards (and Jason frustrated that Amy wasted time helping). It was sad seeing Nicole so sad and disappointed when Travis should have been relieved a team was behind. Great storylines for the final 4 with everyone vs Leo/Jamal (plus losing Tim/Marie while searching the park) and memorable elimination. Unfortunately the weak challenges let it down a bit though.
  3. Leg 2 - Chile (F10 - Rowan/Shane eliminated) - Some drama at the start with Tim/Marie trying to dictate lines at the hours of operation with Afganimals calling them “Pinky and No Brain” haha with teams annoyed by them for the whole leg, Ally/Ashley call her miserable (love this trashy drama). Reading the newspaper on saltwater was one of those “silly” challenges but had Nicky/Kim having a minor meltdown and Nicole “What a lovely way to start my birthday, a salt bath with my husband”. Some Detour switching and Nicole crashing her bike. Some interesting bus scrambles with Rowan/Shane getting confused and picking a later bus. The shoe shining Road Block was fun and tense at the end - Rowan taking a random person’s shoe shining equipment haha (and calling Marie the devil haha), Kim forgetting equipment with Marie not giving her the Express Pass (earlier had an alliance because Tim knows Kim’s husband), Leo/Jamal missing out on 1st because they didn’t pay their driver, and just felt so much more exciting than leg 1.
  4. Leg 10 - Indonesia (F4 - Non elimination) - a fun leg despite being an obvious non-elimination. Challenges weren’t great but the teams made them better than they should have been. Eating the cobras was a lame eating challenge…but Marie being a picky eater had fun moments. Boiling the eggs in the volcanic crater was also a dull challenge…but had teams having to redo it plus Marie freaking out again because she’s never boiled an egg and wasn’t even putting the eggs into the water haha (but surprisingly got it on her 1st try). Painting their partnesearching the fields also had fun moments especially painting the men with Nicole “My husband looks like the sexiest drag queen ever” (and Phil calling him an angry showgirl) and Marie “You’re so metro, you’ll be fine”. Leo/Jamal also lie again and then have to confess (about Tim/Marie being ahead). Felt like a tense ending with Leo/Jamal struggling to find the shears, switching, immediately leaving at “shave your beards” haha but still felt close. More drama in the ones above it though.
  5. Leg 6 - Austria (F7 - Tim/Danny eliminated) - just an “okay” leg but the taxi drama raises it up higher plus the singing challenge at the end. Assembling the chandelier looked interesting but all teams chose matching the masks which wasn’t that difficult or interesting (which Marie said “We did it in like 3 minutes”). Some drama with Jason/Amy trying the bungy jump Fast Forward but choosing to leave due to weather (tense deciding whether to wait or leave with the wind). But the German opera song was a nice tough task with lots of teams together (Tim really struggling and the judge being like “That was terrible” haha). It felt a little bit long and drawn out though. Also a random scene where clowns appear “When you said clowns, I got scared because I thought you meant the Afganimals were here” haha Leo/Jamal also lie about the U-Turn. Tim/Marie stealing Jason/Amy’s taxi and arguing on the mat was the highlight. Would rank higher if the leg was more interesting overall.
  6. Leg 7 - United Arab Emirates (F6 - Non elimination) - another “okay” leg. Some airport banter with Marie complaining about Nicky/Kim chatting on and on with their airport staff, and also Tim getting over the Jason/Amy drama because we’re dudes and then calls Marie a “dude” haha Then visited mosques in Abu Dhabi with a nice scene of Nicky/Kim reflecting on Arab culture and not to judge a group of people by one’s actions. Ally/Ashley also hope Leo/Jamal help them there because “it’s a man’s world” and also “Abu Dubai”. Sorting dates/assembling fishing net were both challenging detours, Tim/Marie hilariously bicker (Nicky/Kim being like “As an American, it’s embarrassing”) and Nicky/Kim keeping one of the locations a secret from the other teams and Nicole/Travis struggle putting together the net (the start of their downfall). The repel and racecar Road Block weren’t that interesting at the end (Kim was scared of heights…and cars). Also the ferries before the Road Block made it obvious that Nicky/Kim weren’t catching up.
  7. Leg 3 - Portugal (F9 - ChesteEphraim eliminated) - a modern season with a classic flight scramble! This took up half the episode…and I don’t mind because I love flights and travel - they’re the heart and soul of the race more than challenges. Aggressively trying to get on standby, a team books the wrong date, a clash between Nicky/Kim and Tim/Marie, a few teams work together (and Tim/Danny don’t trust the Afganimals’ alliance), Marie tries to get information from Tim/Danny, and ChesteEphraim’s bad luck becoming “Beekman Boys part 2” haha Such classic feels! The Lisbon section was pretty dull though with ChesteEphraim as obvious boots and dull tasks (Detour may have been better with teams together), but I also like when teams are far apart from flights and can keep their leads. Ashley is inspired by her Portuguese grandfather with Leo “My race wife is Portuguese” haha Leo/Jamal lying about the tiles challenge taking a long time and Tim/Marie not using the Express Pass were the only notable things though. Average overall!
  8. Leg 12 - USA (F3 - Finale) - a dull finale but not necessarily terrible. Alaska has been done many times before and no challenges stood out as memorable plus boring winners. And there wasn’t any drama between these teams like there usually is, and Marie had no crazy moments. Nicole being a hot mess was the only highlight - failed the supply drop Road Block, dropped her pick on the ice climb haha, Travis told her to stop rowing because she was that bad, and then at the final puzzle Travis just groaned at how useless she was “I’m basically doing the whole thing myself” haha A fitting ending for them! Unfortunately Jason/Amy left the Road Block first and just never lost their lead. That’s also why TAR16, TAR17, TAR19 and TAR22 were also underwhelming finales - the team that leaves the first challenge first never loses their lead. It looked like all teams were together at the final puzzle (remembering the currencies wasn’t a bad idea) but it just didn’t feel tense enough. The last 3 are also boring, but at least this had the excitement of the finish line.
  9. Leg 4 - Norway (F8 - TBC) - had the gimmick of “daytime at 1:00am” but nothing much happened besides Nicole aggressively asking for the Express Pass in return for helping Tim/Marie (who missed their clue). Nicole “I want that Express Pass, I want that Express Pass” with a hilariously sassy look to the camera…and To Be Continued haha. One of the best moments of the season…however the rest of the leg was dull. Both Detours were just “doing boring things with fish” plus hanging up the fish heads was so much quicker that it seemed unfair. The Detour really only had Nicky/Kim “The Cod Queens” struggling to carry the fish and freak out that they’ve lost their clue (but it’s in her mouth haha). Tim/Marie also place the fish on the wrong pole and try leveraging the Express Pass with Brandon/Adam ignoring and mocking her (they may actually need this the next day haha). Jumping into the cold ocean and moving the boulder with your car “Ford product placement” were also boring besides Ally/Ashley almost driving their car over a cliff haha
  10. Leg 8 - United Arab Emirates (F6 - Nicky/Kim eliminated) - didn’t have much happen despite another U-Turn. It had desert scenery but teams were mostly in the same order with no equalisers and Nicky/Kim never caught up. In fact Nicky/Kim’s buggy got stuck in the sand and then got U-Turned and a Speed Bump…so just fell further behind. Preparing the wedding dish/grooming a camel weren’t great. Preparing a camel for a beauty contest was a funny concept I guess, with the camels kicking and teams laughing about their hot camels. The rafting Road Block was boring and easy…even Nicole did it with no problems haha The wave pool Speed Bump was a bit silly but worked well with Nicky/Kim being scared. Some of the U-Turn drama was okay but nothing special - Nicole/Travis strategically using the Express Pass to get to the board first, Tim/Marie U-Turned Nicky/Kim because of a petty rivalry, and Leo/Jamal lying about how easy the cooking challenge was (they switched). But dull overall!
  11. Leg 1 - Chile (F11 - Naina/Hoskote eliminated) - a very boring premiere and very similar to TAR20’s very boring premiere (ep2 is also similar to TAR20’s ep2). A dull heights challenge where the person NOT doing the Road Block is completing the paraglide (same twist as TAR20’s skydive except paragliding is less scary). Following the paragliders (the actual task) wasn’t that hard with the only interesting thing being Marie taking Jamal’s taxi and him saying “Bitch”. The paragliding only had Kim being slightly scared, and doing it for her children…named Spidey and Baboo haha. Then a 2nd dull challenge just like TAR20 (rowing a boat and collecting fish) where the only difficulty was 2 team members accidental doing both Road Blocks. Ally/Ashley tipped off Leo/Jamal about their Road Block mistake. And just like TAR20, not many teams stood out, no drama and it was a dull looking South American city. The only highlights were Nicole/Travis taking a taxi instead of walking and Tim/Danny having a language barrier in the US haha
*************************************
Summary
So the best way of describing this season is - not terrible but not much stands out as “fantastic”. This season needed some more dynamic characters (and less gimmicky/mactorish/camera aware), a more likeable final 3, more interesting winners, and some more memorable moments. Around half the episodes I’d regard as average or dull. It did have some interesting parts due to some drama (mostly due to the polarising characters of Tim/Marie, Nicole/Travis and Leo/Jamal) and some top episodes. I found it similar to TAR4 and TAR15 in that they had a dull feel overall but some fun characters here and there. Enjoyable enough so still scrapes through with a 6/10 which is still “good”.
*************************************
So after each season I will place it on a ranking:
1.TAR5 - 10/10
  1. TAR3 - 10/10
  2. TAR12 - 9/10
  3. TAR17 - 9/10
