👋 Welcome to the /ukpolitics General Election Campaign Megathread. The mad lad Rishi Sunak has called a general election, and now we're bracing ourselves for 6 weeks of bacon sandwiches, newspapers begging you to support their candidates, and a downpour of manifesto pledges.
This is our new daily megathread for all of the day's news until the election. Polling day is on 4th July, and you need to make sure that you are registered to vote if you haven't already, and that you have a form of photo ID (passport, driving license, etc). If you don't have photo ID, you can apply for a voter authority certificate.
Please do not submit articles to the megathread which clearly stand as their own submission. Comments which include a link to a story which clearly stands as its own submission will be removed. Comments which relate to a story which already exists on the subreddit will be removed, to keep everything in one place. Links as comments are not useful here. Add a headline, tweet content or explainer please.
This thread will automatically roll over into a new one at 06:00 GMT each morning.
You can join our Discord server for real-time discussion with fellow subreddit users, and follow our Twitter account to keep up with the latest developments.

2024.05.26 05:15 Unlikely_Spell_2869 As a Sefe-taught Devops with 3 YoE, how likely would it be for me to land myself a Devops / System Adm role in Canada in 2024?

I hope you don't mind my direct approach in asking this question. I come from a diverse background and am currently a self-taught DevOps professional working for HSBC. I'm on track to obtain Canadian Permanent Residency by the end of 2024, so I've been actively researching the job market in Canada. Here's a brief overview of my situation:
My primary concern is whether my background in a highly regulated environment like banking, which prioritizes formality, compliance, and reliability over efficiency, might be perceived as a barrier in transitioning to DevOps, Systems Administration, or Site Reliability Engineering roles in North America.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my post. I'd greatly appreciate any insights or perspectives you can offer. And if possible, I'd like to know what salary range I should expect when pursuing positions in these fields, so that I could make more informed decision.

2024.05.26 04:30 LunchyPete Trouble proxying SSL to HTTP container on backend

I have a kimsufi server, setup a nextcloud container and a nginx-proxy-manager container.
I have a subdomain via a dynamic dns provider and have lets encrypt certs for that domain.
I can't use the lets encrypt functionality bult into nginx proxy manager due to port restrictions and my dynmaic dnsprovider not being supported for the dns challenge.
I added the SSL certs manually in nginx proxy manager. Then setup a proxy host with my ssl cert, chose forward ssl, and put in http://mydomain.com:8080 as the destionation.
On visiting https://mydomain.com I get an error that the site could not be reached and that's it.
443 is open on the host and belongs to the nginx proxy manager container, and http://mydomain.com:8080 works fine.
What could I be doing wrong and what are some steps to troubleshoot?

2024.05.26 04:17 Pineapple_Forward AITA for not responding to a friend who’s experiencing serious anxiety?

To start, 11 years ago whilst I was at university, I (now F30, from the UK) made a friend online from the USA (now F27), we became friends over shared interests and the fact we’d had similar experiences growing up as we were both autistic. One thing I learnt quickly is that she did not have a good childhood at all. Her parents were neglectful and abusive and for the most part she was basically left to raise herself. Over the years we became very close as friends and remained in regular contact.
Now back to the present, in the past year she managed to move to Las Vegas from California to get away from her family. This is where things took a turn. It started when she was struggling to find work. She was getting extreme anxiety over said struggle, and although I tried to be supportive, understanding and encouraging, all I was met back with was anger and hostility (something of which I did not need at the time as my partner had just been fired from their job, so we were both feeling similar anxiety). It got to the point where I felt afraid to say anything without feeling like I was just making things worse.
She also began requesting video calls on Facebook and immediately hanging up just to get my attention during moments of said anxiety so I’d be able to respond fast.
It got worse in December when she broke a clavicle during a car accident (for reference, at this point she had/has a casino job). She was panicking that she would never be able to work again and would be homeless. Despite my attempts to understand and reassure her the injury alone shouldn’t stop her from working again, next morning I woke to lots of angry messages about how she would be homeless and how she hated that people were downplaying her issues.
I’ve really wanted to help, but I started to feel like I was being mistreated. At this point I was only ever being messaged when she had an issue, and although she did apologise when I explained how I was going through a lot of my own issues and started to talk more calmly, she still only talked to me whenever she had an issue.
Two things happened that made me feel I had enough. One was where she tried to get my help right as I was on a train in pain from what was later revealed to be a broken hand, and another when she tried calling me right when I was in the middle of a work shift. Granted, she couldn’t have known I had an accident or that I was working, but it made me feel like I was just a form of therapy rather than a friend. She even once said she needed some “therapy” from me. I know I should talk to her directly about how I’m feeling, but I can’t help but feel afraid she will get angry again.
I do still talk to her. But as I can’t help but feel anxiety (and some personal stuff going on), I’ve been much slower to respond. These past few days I’ve just not been able to respond at all. Nobody’s directly called me an asshole or even hinted at it, but I can’t help but feel I am and that I’m abandoning a friend in need. So Reddit, AITA?

I just got the email today that my cases were created in NVC and I wanted to get started right away, as one does. I log in to both cases on CEAC, no problems there, but when I wanted to pay the fees I got hit with this page. Could it be that the cases are too new? Or that it's the weekend? Or both?
My cases were transferred from USCIS; priority date 4 May 2023, approval date 21 May 2024; my consulate is Ciudad Juárez in México

2024.05.26 02:41 ssps "Hello Pervert", where is it actually sent from?

Almost everyone receved one of these emails by now, where the sender claims that they hacked your devices, recorded you doing stuff, stole your email account among other things, and sent the extorsion email from allegedly that your email account: the From: field is usually manipulated to show your own email address.
Of course, all of this is lies, except the bicoin wallet, where you are invited to send ransom.
If you look at the email headers though (Command+Option+U in Mail on a Mac, "Show Original" in gmail, etc) you will see different picture.
I've just receveid one of those, and this is how the headers look like in it (I censored email addresses and IP addresses with XXX (for sender) and MMM(for me) to ahere to the forum rules)
Usually, the From: field is manipulated to show your own address, but in this new version of this email they used quite a different approach:
Return-path: Original-recipient: rfc822;MMMM@icloud.com Received: from p00-icloudmta-smtpin-us-east-1a-1 by p97-mailgateway-smtp-7556556dd4-cbtvg (mailgateway 2416B100) with SMTP id ddbd03f0-b6c3-4bd9-aae9-1f2ad1a59c2d for ; Tue, 21 May 2024 07:06:48 GMT X-Apple-MoveToFolder: Junk X-Apple-Action: CLXJUNK/Junk X-Apple-UUID: ddbd03f0-b6c3-4bd9-aae9-1f2ad1a59c2d Received: from me209.com (unknown [45.128.XXX.XXX]) by p00-icloudmta-smtpin-us-east-1a-1.me.com (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 68EA21800088 for ; Tue, 21 May 2024 07:06:47 +0000 (UTC) X-ICL-SCORE: 4.122034040041 X-ICL-INFO: GAtbVUweB1BHSVVDSAQGUkFIRFcUWUIPAApbVRYSFhEAREQfHVlbBhQVClVYVVJfVwoDGRxVRFdE TyYeGllUDVsaCRpaEFAGSFsPFRFSWUwWFgtVWENfEkhbUkJWAQRaW0BRWUkJBkBVEQMbFw0UDxBL Vk5WU1kPV1kWAwoNFDlBTEhGSggYW0JXV05IbRRCER1bVQ1eXQwaDghVWF1fBkhbWhYbAwBQQ0le ERsAAlpFGwBOGwMEAxdJVhFMAwBRFkpQR08FUAdBQFE3EVJfABpXBRgVDhRCBxpbVQtRRRIACiYe G1xZFxFXBRgVEg== x-spam-flag: yes x-suspected-spam: true Authentication-Results: bimi.icloud.com; bimi=skipped reason="insufficient dmarc" X-ARC-Info: policy=fail; arc=none Authentication-Results: arc.icloud.com; arc=none Authentication-Results: dmarc.icloud.com; dmarc=none header.from=ibibo.com X-DMARC-Info: pass=none; dmarc-policy=(nopolicy); s=u0; d=u0; pdomain=ibibo.com X-DMARC-Policy: none Authentication-Results: dkim-verifier.icloud.com; dkim=none Authentication-Results: spf.icloud.com; spf=softfail (spf.icloud.com: domain of transitioning XXXXXX@ibibo.com does not designate 45.128.XXX.XXX as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=XXXXXXX@ibibo.com Received-SPF: softfail (spf.icloud.com: domain of transitioning XXXXXXX@ibibo.com does not designate 45.128.XXX.XXX as permitted sender) receiver=spf.icloud.com; client-ip=45.128.XXX.XXX; helo=me209.com; envelope-from=XXXXXXX@ibibo.com Message-ID: From: "You have been hacked!" To: MMMMM@icloud.com Subject: =?utf-8?B?MMMMMMMMMMMMM?= Date: Tue, 21 May 2024 07:06:43 -0700 MIME-Version: 1.0
  • The From: address is not manipulated, instead it appears to be send from the user "You have been hacked!" and email address XXXXXXX@ibibo.com (censored). Becuase email client usually shows just the name when it's available -- it looks like a subject of the email. Clever!
  • The Subject: field contains my encoded UTF-8 email address. Also quite clever -- it will appear after the subject and the user will asssume it's From: address.
  • Look for Received: headers. We see two:
    • Received: from p00-icloudmta-smtpin-us-east-1a-1 by p97-mailgateway-smtp-7556556dd4-cbtvg (mailgateway 2416B100) with SMTP id ddbd03f0-b6c3-4bd9-aae9-1f2ad1a59c2d for <MMMM@icloud.com>; Tue, 21 May 2024 07:06:48 GMT
    • Received: from me209.com (unknown [45.128.XXX.XXX]) by p00-icloudmta-smtpin-us-east-1a-1.me.com (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 68EA21800088 for <MMMM@icloud.com>; Tue, 21 May 2024 07:06:47 +0000 (UTC)
The first one is iCloud email server, and the second -- the sender's email server. When looking up the uncensored 45.128.XXX.XXX address on ipinfo.io we'll see that it belongs to a hosting company in France neterra.net, the scammer used to presumably send these emails from. The domain me209.com no longer exists, but they only needed it for a short time to send this spam.
  • Furthermore, look at DMARC, SPF, and DKIM failures in these emails -- very sloppy, but hey, not all criminals are tech savvy or care enough.

2024.05.26 01:44 MHKaram normal download speed but Zero upload speed 5G

Hey everyone, having a nightmare with my internet connection and hoping someone can lend a hand.
The problem
I'm using an Alienware m15 R6 laptop (Windows 11, version 23H2) with a 5G broadband package from Three UK. My router's a ZTE 5G CPE MC801A WiFi 6.
What I've Tried (Trust Me, It's a Lot):
Here's the kicker: I managed to get a kinda-sorta fix by creating a network bridge with Ethernet and Wi-Fi. But it's a total pain! Here's why:
I'll try to upload some screenshots of the network bridge configuration when it's working with full functionality. Hopefully, this might help diagnose the issue.
Anyone ever seen anything like this? Any ideas on how to fix this upload issue and get my laptop back online properly?
Thanks a bunch for any help!

Im looking for feedback for my plan.
I'm building a PC to function as both a NAS and my home media server. I'm planning on using TrueNAS Scale, and 4x 18X Exos 18TB drives (maybe overkill). I'd also like to run the following services: Jellyfin, Immich, qBittorrent, Radarr, Sonarr, Wireguard, Pihole + Unbound, Minecraft Server.
Building a custom PC isnt an issue for me, I have some decent experience with Linux and I'm willing to put in the time to learn something properly

2024.05.26 00:27 Niskeletor Coolify behind Nginx proxy manager

I am using Nginx Proxy Manager (NPM) as an intermediary between my public IP and Coolify. When I redirect the router ports directly to Coolify, everything works correctly: pages are displayed, SSL certificates are obtained, and there are no connectivity issues. However, when I enter NPM in the configuration, which listens on ports 80 and 443, I'm not sure how to configure NPM to properly respect and redirect requests to Coolify. Let me explain my tech stack. Domain: example.es registered in Cloudflare without proxy CNAME: cool.example.es without proxy cool.example.es reaches my Nginx Proxy Manager and performs a Proxy Host to 192.168.70.90:8000, with a Let's Encrypt certificate and HTTPS OK So far, so good. I can access the Coolify panel with cool.example.es and the local IP. The self-host configuration seems correct: DNS: I have tried both my Pi-Hole (which is my DNS-DHCP server) and Google or Cloudflare DNS Instance Domain: https://cool.example.es/ Wildcard Domain: https://example.es/ Proxy OK: Tried with both Caddy and Traefik Deployments of containers that are only reachable through local IP and port are fine. But if I try to deploy a static page, the deployment succeeds, but when I try to access the URL it suggests, I get an access error I've been reading documentation, videos and tutorials for a week now and this seems like a conspiracy to get me to pay for a cloud server :((

2024.05.25 23:55 TajHaxSocials12 Snapchat Hack!ing Group By @TajHacksSnaps On Telegr.am REVIEW! Heard They Scam? Or Was It Rumors? We Ordered To Find Out!

Welcome Back To Our "scam" finding REVIEWS! Today, we're going through someone who has been highly recommended to check out.
Its Friday - so we're here checking out "@TajHacksSnaps" on telegram! They've been vouched for, reviewed by other folks & given a pretty decent amount of feedback from the community so without anymore rambling - lets get into it!
Usually, we break down what's important like the average experience when going through with dealing with them, how to be safe dealing with ANYONE not just people being "accused" of certain practices. So we'll start with the positive
1 - Content / Proof -( 7.8 / 10 )
So starting with what everyone usually wants to see the most, hearing what they do you'd think "bullshit, let me see some proof" & you'd be right. Where's the damn proof this is even real? well - they've got a pretty nice layout of their work, in the group they host on tele! I was able to see people's orders being taken, worked on progressively , content being issued and an actual reaction from them also. We were in a group call as they showed us them using an access link to get into some chicks my eyes only which was actually crazy lol! So they definitely aren't short of anything
2 - Time / Efficiency - (8.3 / 10)
So this parts a bit mixed, they're usually going to quote you a specific time frame (which may or may not be exact - just an estimate) that could most likely change so be open minded before going 100% into this thinking it'll be 10 minutes. It really depends on how much has to get pulled because more content = more work which means more waiting. So I'd do this when i have at least 25-30 minutes to wait because nothing really is "instant". What i also realized is they get pretty booked up - so if you're not at least a member , have history with them or ordered ahead - on a buy day that 30 min might be 1-2 hours.
  1. The Members / Community (8.5 / 10)
They're a pretty relax & cool group , mods take care of all the fake self promo , toxicity , and they keep it a nice place to just chill. They host livestreams where we watch them do orders LIVE! its actually set up pretty nice. The only "negative" some would say is that its a monthly subscription to join to take advantage of the perks it comes with. So bare that in mind because its not exactly an open for everyone community since they share a bunch of private content there.
  1. Security / Anonymity ( 9.1 / 10)
What would a service be. without PROTECTION! Nothing done is moved , shared , published unless YOU say so. They're pretty tight on that actually, & also the fact they keep client anonymity secured! Everything is done in encrypted spaces , & they even make sure anything said / done is wiped from server logs , your intended target doesn't have a CLUE! Which is why i'm giving this point a 9.
  1. Pricing / Sales ( 8.3 / 10)
Lastly, well take a brief moment to just go over how to get the most $ for your experience. Weekly Sales , Other Members , & Staff Vouches are your best friend! You'll be able to get up to HALF OFF the current rates, weekly updates / info on what's new for snapchat , Instagram , & facebook using the snaphacks+ membership, AND internationally - payments are different so keep that in mind.
In Conclusion , We give "TajHacksSnaps"s group a (8.6 / 10) for the way they've gotten proof that's easily accessible , a great sense of community when it comes to updating everyone on orders , showing & going out of their way to show you that they're ACTIVELY working , + showing a lot of love to members of their community / group like sales , freebies , & handing out content! Ill link their group on ny social link / comments for more info!

2024.05.25 23:30 rsmithlal Having issues with SSL configuration on self-hosted Rails 7 app running on a Raspberry Pi 5 docker-based deployment through Cloudflare tunnel

Hi folks,
I'm early into building an open source community engine that I hope to be able to deploy to accessible hardware like a Raspberry Pi 5. I'm deploying the engine in a host Rails 7.0.8 application.
I'm running into problems submitting a post request to the app through a form.
The error message
I'm using Cloudflare tunnels to route traffic to my Raspberry Pi 5. It securely routes the traffic to my device, allowing me to run my prototype. I can access my app over the internet at the subdomain I have assigned to it.
I'm using dokku on the Pi to orchestrate my Docker containers for my app, workers, and databases.
I'm using a form to allow the user to configure the platform on first-run.
https://preview.redd.it/hgzrh6oihl2d1.png?width=785&format=png&auto=webp&s=81de28376cec6b2a66c400a04c185f27d07ec5d4
The whole setup process works great in dev, but there is a confounding SSL configuration that is preventing me from being able to successfully submit my form.
From the docs and other questions/answers I've uncovered in my research, routing traffic via Cloudflare tunnels seems to need to send the traffic to the host proxy unencrypted via http at the other end of the tunnel.
https://preview.redd.it/7d3mjs8ngl2d1.png?width=546&format=png&auto=webp&s=66669c7dbf2637bd2d9afa5f4051d5ea68c3ddbb
Letsencrypt is available through the dokku plugin, but not enabled. When I turn it on, it successfully gets a certificate but the app goes into an infinite redirect between http and https versions of my domain.

I'm setting and using a base_url in a handful of places, but I didn't use it for the form don't think it's involved in this error.

I've tried just about every permutation of suggestions from my experience, guides, Googling, and chatGPT but I'm hitting a major roadblock here with my app desperately wanting to respond to secure traffic but either getting caught in an infinite redirect loop or giving me that origin authenticity error.
I'm also currently trying to deploy this to a Digital Ocean VPS without using a Cloudflare tunnel to see if I can get it working in a standard production deployment environment and isolate the issue further.
Please folks, I could really use your help! Have you ever encountered this issue before?
Thank you.

2024.05.25 23:24 Right-Ad2418 Not sure what am doing wrong here

So i decided to host a NextJS 14 project on my digital ocean droplet recently (mostly out of curiosity) and I've been running into this strange bug.
In my project, I made a static route where I import images from my public folder (around 10 images) and display them as a gallery in the static route. I do this by calling all the routes in the page.tsx of that route and putting it in an array and passing it into the component I made for the gallery. I use image from next/images also.
Now, the gallery works really well in the dev server and I ran npm build and run it, it works in my PC. But when I cloned, installed, built and served the project using PM2 and nginx for reverse proxy, the entire app works, but the route with the pictures is throwing an error 403 or 504.
Can someone explain to me what I'm doing wrong? Cuz this is very frustrating. Thanks in advance!

2024.05.25 23:16 9acca9 Trying to use with Caddy

Trying to use with Caddy
hi.
I create this issue in the github related to crowdsec and Caddy
https://github.com/hslatman/caddy-crowdsec-bounceissues/44
i will post here to see if somebody can give me a hand.
Im trying to use this bouncer. I install it, also crowdsec, enroll the server, etc. I see this in crowdsec:
https://preview.redd.it/uxayajz62n2d1.png?width=530&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d7e462f7eb565cbe3d014e1aa8ec289806b4edb
So, it seems crowdsec is fine. I compile with xcaddy and also seems working: caddy list-modules result:
 Standard modules: 106 crowdsec Non-standard modules: 1
I put this in my Caddyfile:

2024.05.25 22:23 pan_chromia How do you pay in a restaurant?

I have eaten out at sit-down restaurants in multiple contexts: alone, with a group, crowded, empty, and I cannot for the life of me figure this out.
Here’s what I’m used to in the US: Server clears your plates. They immediately come back with a printed receipt on a little tray. They leave it with you for a couple minutes so you can put your credit card on it, then they take it away promptly and swipe your card. They come back with your card and two more receipts (so now you’re at three): one labeled merchant copy and one labeled customer copy. They both have a blank spot for the tip. You write in the amount you want to tip on both, sign the merchant copy and leave it, take the customer copy (if you want it) and leave.
Here’s what happens to me in England: 1. Server clears my plates. 2. I wait. And wait. I see them continuing to serve the tables near me. I wonder if I’m supposed to pay at the counter? I don’t see a sign. I’m obviously not busy (not finishing my food or reading on my phone or anything). 3. I get tired of waiting and flag down a waiter. I ask for the bill, feeling like I must be committing some major faux pas? But a minute later they come back with a credit card reader. 4. They show me the receipt, I pay with my card contactless on the reader they hold out to me, they smile and I say thanks and they leave. 5. I am now stumped. Do I tip? Do I not tip? I don’t carry cash because I was told everything is contactless… If I want to tip, how do I? (Before anyone says there’s no tipping, responses on a recent post on AskUK said 10% isn’t unreasonable if there’s table service. Probably a whole post of its own.) I leave without tipping, feeling terrible.
What am I missing around step 2? And if you want to tip, how do you handle step 5?
Don’t get me started on “pay at the counter” places where they look at me like I’m mad if I clear my own table and bring in my dishes… I feel so rude leaving dirty plates on an outside table, but that seems to be the norm!

2024.05.25 21:39 ChangingTheChannel I can't figure why NPM is not resolving specific containers

Hello,
I was making the switch from Traefik because I simplified my network to just http and everything is behind a vpn and now im trying to simplify my docker compose projects.
I use Pihole to make my own hostnames and point them to the server that has docker and npm as one of its containers. I use that same hostname on npm and let npm resolve the container hostname (and port) for it to serve back that response. Unfortunately it's being picky. I'm having issues with Portainer and Prowlarr not resolving even though if I use the host server's ip and port of the exposed container...it works.
My setup was all working prior to the npm switch and I didn't touch my docker-compose files while implementing this.
Here's what I troubleshooted:
Was liking NPM at first but debugging this because of some unexplainable behavior and the it "just works" explanation written by these guys (https://nginxproxymanager.com/advanced-config/) just isn't making this worth it to implement.
