I know this is a bit stupid of a question, but id just like to have this fully clarified, once someone turns 18 can they legally change their first name and surname? If so with the surname can you change it to anything or are there certain rules that apply to what it may be changed to. Id also love to know if (for example) If someone were to change their name and surname, move to a different country, other than legal records would their past name be tracable easily or how does that work? Is the family allowed to know their new name or is it prohibited? Thank you

Okay, so a disclaimer at start. My autism easily takes me over when I'm writing things like this, and I tend to... come out much more agressive with my beliefs than I actually are. I guess I learned social skills from books in childhood, and a lot of those books involved sassy characters, this has stuck with me.
In other words, let me say it like this - I am perfectly aware that people can have different outlooks on the subject, and it's fine. I'm not saying it's not. What I'm making this post for is to kind of... intervene in the situations when people make certain decisions when writing fanfics (that they are trying to be realistic about) that don't actually make a lot of sense, from the real world point of view. However, they don't know that.
To me, such feedback was always helpful. Even such rants can offer you an idea on how to make a more unexpected plottwist in your fanfic or something like this. So, yeah.
I guess that I might finally find use for that university degree, heh xD
*** I have several problems with the usual portrayal of MLA's in fanfics, and I'm planning to go through them in order. Looking forward to feedback and maybe even a discussion, the more Quality MLA Content we get out of it, the better. It might, however, feel a bit disjointed, because my mental state is just like that nowadays, sigh.

1. Their Beliefs

Don't get me wrong, we all like us some completely irredemeeable villain group that we can trounce around for moral catharsis, and there's no one better to trounce around than the quirk supremacists (as we all know what sort of real world people they're a stand-in for). However, there is a problem with that.
Canon!MLA has extremely limited amount of on-screen quirk supremacism. Yes, I was pretty surprised by it as well. However, the only person that actively goes on quirk supremacist rants is Geten. Who, let's be real, is there because he is very powerful and through that, useful. Is he even educated? Is he in charge of anything in the MLA? He probably isn't. Who would have thought.
He's just Re-Destro's attack dog, let's be real.
Yes, they want free quirk usage in society. However, seeing that as supremacism is only one way of interpreting it. We can also talk about allowing people to use what they were born with and not be effectively discriminated for it (because someone born with more useful quirk loses more than someone born with a useless one when they can't use it).
Hell, in a way, MLA's ideology can be seen as being about bodily autonomy that the Quirk Laws violate. For the greater good of a society, which makes it a possibly acceptable thing, but clearly not for all. And don't have me mention how they'd likely to Overhaul gaslighting Eri into thinking her quirk is a curse, purely on the basis of their political ideology.
Look, what I'm saying is that if you can interpret a secret organization's end goal as authoritarian, genetics-based societal hierarchy and a liberal freedomtopia of self-determinism, it means that we simply don't know shit about said secret organization. To be honest, the only thing that we can say about them is that they aren't communists, because they have a CEO in their rank. That's all.
Hell, you remember the Vigilantes? It's implied with the Skycrawler's epilogue that the US Hero System is much less strict, meaning that you're a hero when you're doing good job with your quirk and a villain if you break the law with it. In other words, it's possible to imagine the MLA as an organization that's trying to introduce more American solutions to problem to Japan. And a more American-like approach to quirks.
Yes, I know that America is a problematic subject for many, especially today, but the country exists and seems to work well in the BNHA, so maybe they solved all their problems by then. So, it's a hardly a subject for hyper-scrutiny and being treated like the Austrian moustache man-wannabes.
What I'm saying right now, isn't that you CAN'T make your MLA into such an organization. The canon makes them bland enough to make nearly all answers to be a reasonable one. What I am trying to suggest here, is to make them more diverse.
This is something that I did in my fanfics and that I believe Darken is going for (the author of My False Love Academia), at least in some not-yet published one-shots that I really liked. He made MLA to be a relatively recent merger of a number of lesser organizations with a somewhat similar but not identical approach to things. So, like, a group that's about pure quirk freedom can co-exist with a group that sees MLA as a way to actual quirk supremacy, another one that doesn't like the heroes (and that's all) and then you also have a mutant rights group that things that quirk discrimination is bad and Detnerat can give them a lot of money to spend on telling people that their (mutant) quirks are fine and great, no matter what others and the government tells them.
That offers you a much more freedom in portrayal of that organization. Can make it to be less a one-dimensional mook factory for Shigaraki (or whoever you replace him with in your fic). Have a group of MLA engage students in the Paranormal Liberation War Arc and almost splitting apart because some of them don't want to attack Tsuyu (but want to make them go to their side, because mutants), some others are just angry at the heroes in general and want to fight, etc. Just add some drama to the situation.
You can add a lot of drama and make your portrayal of the bad guys to be a bit more interesting with something like this.
2. Their Numbers
Okay, this is where my degree in military history comes into play. I have seen MLA being taken off-screen to pave the way into dealing with AFO, and being treated as no-problem at all... way too many times. I was also told by someone that 100 000 isn't that much and it doesn't really matter.
Okay. Stop.
100 000 isn't a realistic number for people preparing for a violent takeover of the country, yes. But not because it's too small. It not realistic, because it's too big*.* By logic of real world, such an organization should have either already launched a successful coup d'etat, start a civil war, be discovered and long-ago dismantled by the police/army or split apart due to internal strife.
People do not understand how little does it take to (in correct circumstances) take over a country. You guys remember Lenin? You know, the guy who overthrew Russia and started that funny thing called Communism?
His party (the bolsheviks) were the minority split group of a larger party (miensheviks). Those, in turn, were a smaller far-left party than a much bigger Socialist Revolutionary Party. In fact, only about 5% of the capital garrison sided with them during the coup. However, Kierensky's government was so unpopular that only about 2.5% of said garrison sided with them, the rest going 'screw them both' and going home, getting drunk or going home to get drunk. (Source: Russian Revolution by Richard Pipes).
And they almost fell soon after that because the local banks refused to accept their takeover of the capital and refused to give them money they needed to pay the people that were supposed to be the local government, so said local government sent armed people to rob said banks.
Let me reiterate it - MLA, to go by their numbers (that were made up because they sounded cool and make them look like a problem, we all know that), is a massive threat to the System. They have immense finances, easy access to equipment (via Detnerat), their own political party that can be used as the front for the takeover (Hearts and Minds Party) their own seemingly popular media/propaganda group (Shoowaysha Publishing) and all the telecoms and possibility to wiretap their opponents that the Feels Good Inc. has. Hell, they have their own communication satelites.
If you still think that 100 000 isn't a lot, please remind yourself that the modern German Army has 170 000 members. And now imagine such a group being trained in said country, without said country realizing what was going on. You starting to understand why MLA being taken down off-screen is rubbing me the wrong way?
If that wasn't a superhero shounen, the Paranormal Liberation War Arc would have include a lot of tanks, artillery pieces and armed soldiers told to shoot first, ask questions later.
Again, this can be done logically, don't get me wrong. The best way of solving it is something that I encountered in one IzuMeiTooru fanfic (I don't remember the name, if you do, please remind me, I'd like to give that fic a shoutout it was really good). In it, something started to kill the MLA leaders one by one (before they could have their fated clash with Shigaraki). The result?
The Night of Broken Peace (if I remember the name correctly). The MLA losing its cohesiveness and support structure, and either coming around to strike against the heroes (without real hope of winning) or ditching it all and becoming villains officially. Suddenly bolstering every local street gang with combatants that were TRAINED to fight with heroes, resulting in the crime rates skyrocketing overnight.
The country wasn't taken down. The MLA wasn't going to have its own arc. But even then, their takedown had its own gravity, pretty much ending the Era of Peace, as much as Kamino did. In way, this is what happened after Paranormal Liberation War in canon, except off-screen. Yes, Gigantomachia and Dabi's reveal of his connection to Endeavor did a lot, but to go by official numbers, the heroes rounded-up around ~12 000 if I remember it correctly. This means that a big part of the chaos in the country is due to surviving MLA (now PLF) operatives and supporters going berserk over the country. Even Skeptic is mentioned to do his best to rally those groups together in canon.
You don't want to deal with the MLA? Mention offhandedly how something happend to Re-Destro's public persona (died in mysterious circumstances or something) and boost the random villains the cast encounters. Hell, why not make several of the tougher USJ thugs (like the guy that takes Kaminari hostage) into former MLA members? You can give them some depth while at it, why not? You want to add an OC villain to, say, League? Why not make them a former MLA member that ended up joining the group after Re-Destro kicked the bucket (probably because of AFO, though AFO's not telling that). Voila.
Small side-idea: I don't believe that those numbers are truly logical as well. 100 000 members of such an organization makes no sense, especially if you also want to make your Nedzu to be supergenius - making him miss someone organizing an equivalent of a smaller First World army is... well, it's kinda weird.
Personally, I make 100 000 to be the list of their sworn members. Who know about MLA and that they are the part of it. Not all of those are combatants to begin with, a lot of them can be for example high ranking Feels Good members that are tasked with keeping Detnerat Towers' computers in working order.
As for the rest, 3/4 of them aren't full time members. Most of them train in some local 'quirk gyms' (they have to be something like this). During the day, the quirk gym operates normally. Late-evening, there's a special training group that might or might noe include a number of local MLA members, one of whom owns the gym. Those people have their own jobs, so that the MLA doesn't have to supply them with food and accomodations, which means less tracable money flow.
The remaining 1/4 are those from the last category that proved to be more skilled and dedicated to the cause, so they're the ones that actually are trainining in some sort of MLA secret bases around the country. This includes at least a number of officers that Hawks in-canon mentiones to 'be stronger than average pro-hero', and also likely at least some turncoat heroes that drop by from time to time.
This brings the organization down to having ~30-40k of said irregular supporters that can do some footwork and hurt someone, but they're pretty much tougher USJ thugs that can deal with local police but not much more than that, and then a few thousand of actually dangerous combatants. This still makes them a giant threat to the country, but doesn't make me ask 'wait, why aren't they in charger yet'?.
Actually, fun fact. It's somewhat implied in canon that Re-Destro was planning to pull a coup d'etat rather than go for a regular war. You remember the part where I mentioned the Russian Revolution above? Well, it succeeded because of how unpopular the current system was. Re-Destro began to move after All Might's fall and Stain's recording from Hosu began to weaken the public support for the heroics, and intended to go full-out after eliminating the League.
Thus strengthening the resolve of his men and being able to further weaken the heroes by being able to point in the media 'look, the heroes failed to catch them, All Might failed to catch them, and yet the simple folks gathered up and got them out! Why do we even need the heroes?'. Thus doing another blow to the public support and the morale of the heroes, and making it likely that if played correctly, a lot of people wouldn't try to fight the MLA due to not wanting to bleed for a system that they perceived as failed.
Yes, it didn't work. But it could work.
3. Their Members
I have done A LOT in my fics to give them some a bit more unique characters in order to give them some depth as an organization.
Geten got a sister that he has a one-sided rivalry with because their parents in their quirk supremacist compound were playing them against each other to make them train harder.
Re-Destro has a daughter because I love to make him more like Doofenshmirtz and he needs his own Vanessa that was crippled by her own quirk in childhood to make him a bit more... empathetic and make his organization go the more 'quirk liberal' way rather than 'quirk supremacist' in canon.
I have a few more notable members here and there, like Rave, Toxicity (occassionally), Hellmouth and Reload, with their own pretty tough quirks.
Do you know why?
Because canon MLA is a joke in this department. And that's something that I fully realize. They have a number of notable members showed in like one scene, some of which actually have rather awesome-looking aesthetics that could make them be serious threats to the cast. To give us some op fights between them and the Top Heroes.
But no. To this day, we don't even know the name of the guy who killed Midnight. Or his quirk. It's... it's actually pretty sad at this point.
But this means that we can drop all the cool (but not totally op) quirks ideas we have on their organization, and voila. We can get more cool fights in our fanfics, and get away with it ;v C'mon, we all have that one (or a few) cool quirk/quirk fight ideas we have but we just didn't get around to writing it down.
However, there is one thing that I have to mention here. Please, stop making Re-Destro a weakling. He was casually crushing buildings left and right in his fight with Shigaraki. The only reason that Shigaraki won was because he was getting a shounen protagonist power-up moment for a while, and that for some reason his matter disintegration quirk gave him all-around strength and speed strengthening.
I think that Tokoyami/Dark Shadow manhandling him later on made people downgrade him into a mook, but it only makes sense when you forget that Re-Destro was made a cripple before that fight. He was holding Dark Shadow in near-perfect conditions back for as long as his prosthetic legs could hold him up. And even then, Dark Shadow couldn't just end his fight.
He then fought (again, off-screen, because why not?) Edgeshot. At that point hero number... 3? 4?. While being a cripple missing both his legs. And he actually managed to clearly exhaust Edgeshot. In the same time, a mere copy of him was going berserk in the HPSC headquarters and managed to kill its president.
Oh, and much later, Dark Shadow actually managed to punch You-Know-Who (I don't know if it counts as spoilers, so I won't say any details), even if not at his peak. C'mon.
I am of genuine opinion that peak Re-Destro is Endeavor's equal. As a part of a 'top grade quirk with top grade enhancements and top grade training' level that's only surpassed by bullshit quirks like OFA, AFO and Star and Stripe.
He has a lot of potential, and I really think that the fandom has milked Tomura Shigaraki, Overhaul and All for One for nearly all that they are worth.

After being robbed
Looking for advice on what else we can do after being robbed?
In the overnight sleeping cabin from Hanoi to Hue, someone has entered our cabin, gone through our taken my partners phone, ID and bank cards.
The phone is tracable and responding via find my phone, but is still in Hanoi and we are in Hue.
Whilst we've cancelled everything, locked the phone and reported this to the police, we've been told we have to wait for them to assign it to the right department and then we'll be contacted regarding the phones location. No timeframes were given.
I'm concerned the phone may go flat, and stop responding. Is there anything else we can do?
UPDATE: Answering the most common questions. We are on a tour group, the trip leader was expecting a 4th person to use one if the bunks and left the door unlocked.
The person who took it left his bag and ticket behind, we suspect it was a local who found an empty bed, went through our stuff and was spooked when my partner woke up. So we are hopeful given we have his stuff and name, the police will do something.
We have access to our money as there are 2 of us travelling

I had a horrible feeling after an incounter on Friday. They used sll the manipulation tricks in the book, so much that even though I just wanted to run he somehow managed to force me to do whatcI didn’t want to do.
Started by using a compliment with a follow up direct question about it, in such away that it felt rude not to answer. Them before you knew it he had pushed a book in my arms so I intinctively received it. Was supposedly a free gift and pushed in such a way that it wasn’t even asked. Then he forcibly put himself infrobt of where I was going, between me and the person I was with, and claimed it was normal to get a «donation». I went to my default «I don’t have cash on me». Which of cause makes it worse: oh that ok, I have vipps! (A supposedly safe money transfer) I know the app itself should be safe, but he made me ferl SO uncomfortable, but also made it clear he would not let me go without «doing the right thing». I tried to get away but he keot insisting, pushing and getting in my way in such a way that I felt forced to do it. I gave him only half of what he claimed was «normal to give, thoug more would be better». Honestly felt like a manipulation to sell their book. And did google them after, this is exactly what they do! But he also quickly took a photo of me before I got away, and that made me feel just SO uncomfortable!!
The Vipps app works through phone number, so he will be able to see my number and my name. No other payment info or social info. So he has only those two, + a photo of my face (with glasses on, hat far down and a scarf high up since cold out, so no where near legal for passport if they attempted anything like that)
How worried should I be? They seem to be specifically know for extorting donations for what I found. I have their info, Hare Krishna Bergen (so the cult + local area) To use Vipps their account has to be connected through a tracable bank and person, so police can track them down if they try anything.
Do anyone have experience with Hare Krishna doing ID thefts or other info copying through proximity? (If so, what could be copied and how? In case it matters, I used iphone 12)
I emptied my primary bank account and blocked my card first day just cause I felt so uncomfortable. I’ve kept checking my bank account, and even changed password just in case. What more should I do? I have ID theft insurance.

I used to live in France and now I need to obtain the "extrait de casier judiciaire". I was able to apply for it online, but I'm confused about one thing. The very first page after connecting through FranceConnect has "Vous êtes né(e) hors de France" correctly ticked for me, and below it says "Un justificatif d'identité devra être joint à votre demande". I clicked through and filled in the rest of the online form, clicked the final submit button, received an email with a confirmation link, confirmed, and now nothing - at no point was I asked for proof of identity. Is this expected, am I supposed to provide it at some point in the future? I didn't even have to provide any further details like passport number or N° de Sécurité sociale or anything that identifies me apart from name and date/place of birth, which I also find a bit strange (ok i'm tracable, but surely more identifying numbers should help). I am here to break my silence regarding the ongoing bot invasion.
The Rat Empire sits in the bot-desired position where it isn't small enough that posts don't get traction, nor big enough where it requires a large mod team, auto-moderator, or other fancy tools.
As such, bots post about 30% of the content. But how do they get so big?
Firts, let's answer some question:

What is a bot?

Simply put, a bot refers to a karma-creation bot that automatically steals content from other subreddits and posts it here. This is not crossposting, since the original creator is not credited, the source isn't tracable.
They work by automatically finding posts that performed well in other subreddits, posting it here and leaving it up for anywhere between a day and a week, then deleting the post.
These bot accounts can then be sold to other people. Either as an upvoting service or as the account itself. Karma is needed to post on most subreddits. It also helps circumventing bans form subreddits, ceating "Trust" with reddit allowing for more posts, chats and comments a day without being rate-limited, promoting adult content, among other uses.

How do you identify a bot?

Is the content related to the Rat Empire?
Bots struggle with connecting the dots, usually they only use the title of the original post. If it contains words that pertain to this subreddit (EG.: Bottom, femboy, gay, etc.)
The bots then take this image and post it here without knowing its contents. So the actual subject of the image may not be completely compatible with the topic.
Examples include that the image is missing context or not entirely related to the subreddit, misinformation or edited images that don't make sense, and posts that lack a good title
Mind you this is not the only, nor the easiest way to spot a bot.
Is the account name legible and makes sense?
Humans (Like me, I am a real human, I swear) tend to not read the username, and if they do they only read the first word. As such, users like harveysaarelabzc21 tamekastindephn71 Eveningzxcv don't make sense if you read past the fisrst word. It's a word that makes sense, or words that make sense in an order that doesn't.
Mind you, automatically generated Reddit names usually have the format [Verb/adjective] [Underscore] [Noun] [4 digits], these may be real humans.
Is the acount old enough or new enough?
Generally, bot accounts are created, then enter a 4 to 6 month dormant period, then activate for karma farming. Accounts created between February and July of this year (As of october 2023) would generaly be bots. This is nor a surefire way to know though
Does the account have any other interaction?
Generally, when enough karma was farmed, their posts will become spammy, promoting something, or posting on a timer. EG.: They will post on an adult subreddit every 8 hours. This is the only sure indicator that an account is a bot.
If they generally lack post history, comments, badges, participation in events like Place, they could be a bot, provided they are not new users.

How do we stop this?

The Rat Empire only has 2 moderators, and no auto-mod, so it's up to you and me to report these bots.
First, downvote the post made by the bot. Downvotes will make it harder for them to thrive.
Then, expand the post by clicking or tapping on it. You will now see the comments.
Press on the three dots ( . . . ) at the bottom of the post on browser, or at the top right of the post.
Select Spam - Harmful Bots - Submit - Block user
This will create a report to both Reddit and the moderation team. The moderation team may not remove it straight away, but enough reports will cause Reddit to take down the acocunt.
(In the time it took me to write this, one of the accounts I referenced was deleted!)

For some background I'm ethnically Korean, nationally American. My dad visited South Korea around 2015 for about a month to reconnect with distant relatives and just see the country since the last time he was there was when he was like 10 years old. Among the cool stuff he brought back one of the items was a paper copy document of our family tree.
In Korea these family trees are called Jokbo, they not only record family members but also include standout info of interesting family members and denote specific prefix or suffixs to unborn heirs dependent on the generation they're born into. An example would be my Korean name Chuh-Sun, Chuh and some other word were options for my family to chose and they stuck with that one for me and my brother.
Fast forward to 2 years ago and I randomly have some renewed interest into jokbos and do my own research for fun. Interestingly, in modern Korea a lot of false jokbos exist to falsely claim heritage to prominent clans for social clout that apparently has heavy influence on social mobility. Jokbos apparently were only existent in higher class families, peasants didn't even have last names. When the Japanese invaded and westernized Korea they forced last names as a requirement so people scrambled to just pick random names (Kim was a popular clan at the time hence why there's so many Kim's out there). Additionally the Japanese destroyed a lot of important relics and documents including jokbos so few authentic ones remain in existence which makes verifying them a pain.
Well I come to find out not only is our jokbo legitimate, but it's the oldest surviving jokbo in all of known Korea. It dates back to the founder of the clan in 913 AD to a guy that helped a king take over the country. My ancestors are filled to the brim with interesting characters like Kwon Yul who was a general in the Imjin war. By extension, I'm apparently related by very distant blood to famous kpop stars like DEAN and G Dragon, and apparently some guy that's high up in Samsung. Learning all this made me pretty grateful so much of my ancestral lineage is tracable, most people I know can barely go back 4 generations without things getting hazy. Best part is I never need to us ancestry.com or that DNA kit thing to tell you your ancestral makeup.

Some of you have probably heard about the most recent controversy regarding Limbus Company, the gacha game by Project Moon. After a wave of harassment and review-bombing by a dissatisfied portion of the Korean community, artist VellMori was fired by the company.
In this post I'll be explaining fully the origin of the controversy as well as clearing up any misinformation on both sides. ( Images will be added as soon as I have access to a computer )
What happened ?

1. Technical issues : Recently added mechanics and nerfs were disliked by the general community, in addition a typo was present in a patch note, leading some players to invest ressources in an ability less powerful than it actually is. Despite immediate fixes as well as compensation the community was still angry, leading to a bunch of Korean forums,DC ( Korean /pol/ equivalent) being the infamous one, to gather all their issues about the game. They ended up settling on a list of issues they had with the game, most of them being genuine complaints any user could have, like balance issues, ressources costs and pace at which units were released. One issue on that list however was special, "No swimsuit character".
   
2. The swimsuit drama : In the mind of many gacha players, summer season arriving means swimsuit related units. For reference however, Project Moon games are known to feature very very few fanservice. This lead many players to think that we wouldn't even get anything close to a swimsuit. However ProjMoon blessed the playerbase by giving one of the female characters a skin-tight wetsuit (named Ishmael), and a male character a shirtless beach outfit with a choker and trunks( named Sinclair). Despite the wetsuit being very objectively fanservice, highlighting the shapes of the female character, the DC Korean community was not satisfied, at all. This lead some users to cry out in outrage that "feminism" was the reason they weren't getting a swimsuit character.I'm sure that initially the people claiming such a thing were a small minority, some probably even joking, yet this is how the witch hunting for feminism started.
   
3. The witch hunt : The DC playerbase first looked into the artist in charge of character CGs, the one who, as far as the community is aware, is responsible for not giving them a bikini. He was in fact a man so the feminism accusations were dropped. They then started digging around the artist in charge of making story illustrations, someone completely unrelated to the swimsuit debacle. The wetsuit character not even released yet, the person in charge of the STORY illustrations would have no impact whatsoever on her appearance in her CHARACTER illustration. That story artist is VellMori. As it turns out, a few deleted retweets from 5 years ago were "very extremist feminist things". Thus labelling her as a FemRad by the DC community.
   
4. The feminist outrage: DC's issue with FemRad seems to be tied to very toxic and extremist groups of women, mainly Womad or Megalia, that under the guise of feminism, would actually just be misandrist assholes ( basically "feminazis"that we have here in the West ). VellMori retweeted a post from Megalia and was thus associated with the movement. Among other things, this started the actual review bombing, death threats as well as a group of individuals walking up to PM's office and stating that they would not leave until they could talk to the team. It's important to note that they weren't explicitly threatening violence like some people claim. However it's clear that this is still coercion, especially considering the death threats that the devs had received that day, this was still a threatening and out of line situation. After a few hours, PM published on twitter their desire to change certain technical components of the game, as well as the firing of VellMori, citing a breach of contract. She reportedly made her personal twitter account tracable to her work handle, which was a breach of contract
   

Now to go over everything VellMori is accused of by the DC community and why everything is false :

• Being a part of Womad movement :This whole claim arises from 2 retweets deleted, 5 years ago. One of them is about calling out spy cameras. The other retweet was about the issue of being called a FemRad even when all you're asking is basic treatment. She has had no further involvement with the movement apart from those few interactions.

• She doubled down on those beliefs when it was brought up recently : when some people brought up her deleted tweets from 5 years ago, she laughed in their face and called them incels. Btw do note that the tweet showed to "prove" that she doubled down isn't even 100% linked to her. Some people speculate that the tweets are from a completely separate account and DC is trying to smear her. VellMori would have been around 15 years old when those tweets were first published, as such I wholly believe that laughing in the face of someone bringing such outdated information to you is worthy of being laughed at. Also she drew a character making that same gesture in one of the story illustrations: the tweet was conviently cropped on the DC board making it impossible to see who tweeted it. How unfortunate 😭. The character in the story doing that gesture is just running his fingers across a mirror, it's a coincidence, nothing more.

Hello everyone! I'm back with another more current John Doe case that suprisingly few people heard about. I think that this is a very interesting story, and I'm suprised that it hasn't been solved a year later. Like with all the modern Doe cases I write about, I hope that, maybe, this post will find a right person that knew something about this man and will be able to give that final puzzle piece that will lead to this man having his name back.
On the 13th of February 2022 in Cherokee County, North Carolina, a person looking for old bottles and jars in the forest stumbled upon a makeshift campsite and a set of skeletal remains, which prompted them to call the police. The deputies have found more items that appeared to have belonged to him near the 6200 block of Brasstown, Murphy.
The man had quite a lot of items on him: Several BiC lighters, a red tactical flashlight, a steel watch with a gold-colored trim, a set of "silverware" (but it appears to just be regular cutlery, nothing fancy as some people originally thought), reading glasses in a black and gold case and another pair of glasses with a tortoiseshell frame, two backpacks of different sizes and a tarp. He also had a digital camera that I will talk about more later on and a laptop.
After his skeleton was processed, it was found out that he was likely a white man, 40-60 years in age, 5"6'-6'3" (66-75 inches /168-195 cm) in height (some early sources note that he was a "tall male"), though it's just an estimation, and his weight cannot be estimated due to the bad state his remains were in. That's really all that can be said about him, as hair or eyes were too decomposed to say anything about their color.
The most interesting thing relating to the case has to be the digital camera that was found in the campside. It was badly damaged by the elements and apparent animal activity (it was noted that something gnawed on the camera), but the police was able to restore the contents of the memory card. There was around 100 photos taken with it, and only two featured people, according to Joe Wood, the sheriff's chief deputy. Some of these photos have been made public, and they feature: An old barn, a landscape painting done on canvas, a trailer home, a makeshift campsite at night and what appears to be a family having dinner in a pretty elegant kitchen.
Within hours of the photos being published, someone who allegedly recognized themselves on one of the photos said that the landscape painting looks like it was made by their artist friend from New Mexico. The artist was never reported missing, and their name was never stated in any articles, so it's unclear if anything came of it. At first, the investigators thought that the man might be Dylan Brock, a 34 year old from Orange County who went missing in the Franklin area in 2018.
For some time, the John Doe's tentative name on NamUS was "Sammie Davis". A person on websleuth found an article about a woman who was looking for her missing brother, Sammie Davis. It's speculated that the police thought that the John Doe was said Sammie Davis, but some comparison like DNA or dentals didn't match up- the name is no longer on his page in NamUS, so it's probably not him.
So who was this man? Sadly, I feel like these photos can't be easily matched to a place, since there's so many barns and trailers that look like this. I think that the photo of the family dinner can jog someone's memory, or maybe someone will even recognize themselves in it. The painting is, no offense to the artist, pretty generic too, not something easily tracable to a specific artist.
The laptop was apparently made in 2016, so that's the earliest our John Doe might've died. There was also a cellphone found, but it was damaged beyond saving, and it was a generic model that can be bought in grocery stores. His belongings were starting to be overtaken by nature, with roots growing over the laptop, so he had to be there for some time. The police said that they were comparing his dentals and DNA to some potential matches, so they have both. If they have DNA, then doing genetic genealogy is a matter of time and money, and I believe that John Doe will have his name back one day.

So I found out that my tech supervisor has been having a cashier count his deposits, fill out all the slips, do the Garda and weekly deposit logs and even sign the supervisors name for him on forms.
I bring this to my gm and instead of immediately removing them from closing duties he thinks that just a slap on the wrist will be enough and this this shouldn't even be a real write-up.
And this is the latest in a string of attempts to get out of doing his job. It goes down the line. It just makes for far far far more work for everyone else to cover him. Dude is a walking liability as far am I'm concerned. He's been with the company for two months and cutting him lose before 90 days is up would be the ideal situation. We have a couple of people who could step into that role and we'd be just fine.
Truth be told I want to just report it as a ethics violation. The only problem is that it would obviously be tracable back to me and I don't want blowback on myself.
Truthfully, I don't understand why my gm is seemingly covering for a operational liability like this. We gain nothing from keeping him here. Its only loss.
I told my boss today that, frankly, this motherfucker and his defense of him makes me just want to put in my two weeks and move on. I can't really afford that right now tho. Uggg.

There has been recent talks of a way of limiting the shills/negatively of "new" users.
My recommendation to the community is that we implement a title system under everyone's names based on a tracable metric. For example, how long they've been a member, how much positive karma they have, etc.
Not sure what the variables are for titles on the admin/mod side.

At least we can easily identify who is older and who is newer and know which users to ignore if they are being total shill assholes.
This way we aren't limiting new people who are genuinely interested in BBBY but we also know who to take with a grain of salt.
It doesn't need to be membership length, but if a mod can list what we can use as a measuring stick on the metrics side. We should put it up to a vote.
Thoughts?

Currently when we run a ansible playbook on cisco equipment from awx we just chose "machine credentials" and have the user write username and password with "prompt on launch".
However we are now building a workflow where we also do job against other vendor. So we cant use prompt on launch. I have a password survey that works for the other equipment. Is there any way to pass the credentials in awx directly from the survey, getting the same behaviour as pick "machine credentials"?

A little over two weeks ago I (35yo/f) received a text from a random number. It was a screen shot of a brief "conversation" and a picture of my husband's dick.(41yo/m) This is what blew the whole thing up. The person that text this to me said his full legal name and said that he was trying to buy sex from young girls. I asked how young these girls were and suprisingly the number text back and said they were younger than my husband's daughter, my step daughter (20/f). Then the number proceeded to send me pictures of my husband to prove it was him. One picture was not him, but someone who looked similar, and the other was an old work picture. This number then told me they send the screen shot of the convo and dick pic to his ex wife, neighbors of ours, his work and on Facebook. The number stopped communicating with me after they said I should get tested for AIDS. I was out of town with family that night so couldn't say or do anything until the next day.
I wished I would have kept my shit together and been more planned out and thoughtful about my approach but I was so livid and had so many questions that I handed my phone to him the next morning and asked him to explain and for him to show me his phone immediately. He tried to deny it initially and said he wasn't doing anything and handed me his phone. Nothing in his text messages. I then went to the trash folder and found dozens of explicit conversations and as soon as I clicked on one and got a glimpse of a few messages he yanked the phone away from me and said he had to go. I followed him to the garage and told him he needs to tell me the truth right now or else this is going to lead to a divorce quick. He just kept repeating that he didn't do anything and then got in his truck and went off to work.
Things have been hard since that day. He's come clean and said he finds these sexting numbers when he is bored and I'm out of town. He has been doing it for at least 2 years of our 5 year marriage. He vehimately denies that this is with young women, especially not teens or children. There is no info given to our neighbors, his ex, his place of work or Facebook, that I am aware of anyways but I have done my research. I got tested and I do not have AIDS or any other STD.
But he was still finding women to sext with. He was still exposing himself and saying things he would never say to me. He also said he would watch cam girls or porn sometimes too. I know this isn't the worst betrayal ever, but I feel violated. The fact that I was tracable, my husband was traceable and now our children are too, makes me feel so exposed. The fact that my husband wasn't open with me all these years, and that he straight lied to my face and walked away when I told him flat out if he left to go to work he was walking away from our marriage, it's all painful. A lot has been discussed since everything unfolded but I can't cover it all here in one post. If anything it's cathartic to type some of it out and get it out there.

Ok this is the very first time I would like to write some kind of chronology here. After seeing how much work the users put in their threads, I will try to bring in as much useful informations as possible. But be aware, english is not my native language.
So, yeah, after reading the chilling thread of Ruth Price in this Subreddit, I was taken back to another weird case that is not so prominently featured like I thought it would (there are a few topics about this case available on Reddit though). It's the strange case of a luxury Hotel in Oslo -The Raddison Blue Plaza Hotel- that happened in 1995 and is unresolved to this day. Of course, the official statement of the norwegian police was suicide. Of course, there is more to this weird case than meets the eye.
The case was prominently featured in the new second season (Episode 2) of Netflix "Unsolved Mysteries" Reboot so many of you might know this case. If not, watch the episode or wait for the link to another documentary I present at the end of my post.
This story revolves around a woman named Jennifer Fergate. That's the name that was noticed on when she called and asked about a free room. The name was obviously fake and she actually checked in under a slightly different name as Jennifer Fairgate including another person, probably her husband or brother, Lois Fergate (this person will become quite important later). On the phone, Jennifer was fluent in English and German. In fact, the employees from the Hotel noticed that she was indeed german (I'm myself german).
- Jennifer checked in under a wrong identity. Neither was her name Jennifer Fairgate, neither was the address correct which was located in a very small village in Verlaine, Belgium. Forensics estimated her age in her mid 20's (born around 1971). Hotel employees described her as an elegant woman, about 159 cm tall (or short in this case) with dark short hair. On May 31, 1995 employees her to room 2805 in the 28th. floor of the Hotel.
- After a room cleaning (Jennifer was not present in the room during this time), Jennifer must have come back to her room because from Friday to Saturday the "Do not Disturb" sign was hanging on the doorknob on the outside door of her room.
- Jennifer ordered food and drinks to her room which were not paid. Via the television in her room, the reception notified her to visit them ASAP. She ignored the messages.
(This actually happened differently, big Heads-Up to u/juliettebell who wrote the follwing: - "She didn’t ignore the messages the reception sent to her room via the TV; she replied by pressing the “OK” button on the remote. So around 15 minutes before the gunshot, someone (who’s still alive) must have been in the room." Also " - She put the room service tap on her bill but gave a hefty tip of 50 kr in cash."
- On June 3rd, 1995 around 08:00 pm, the reception send out a security guard to her room which was still covered with the "Do not Disturb" sign. Shortly before he arrived at her room, he heard a gunshot out of the locked room. The Police was called.
- Employees of the Hotel and the Police opened room 2805 just to find a bloodbath. They found the lifeless body of Jennifer Fairgate with a fatal gun wound in her head, the weapon, a FN Browning HP handgun, neatly placed in both of her hands.
Be aware: This is a very compact chronology of the events because I don't want you to read 30 minutes here. Now, the real mystery begins. Police declared this, after an obduction, that this was a sucide. Which is, in so many aspects, weird to say the least.
Too many things don't add up here. Let's start with the fact the she has managed to check in one of the most well known Hotels in Oslo at that time with a fake idenity and a fake contact sheet. The address in Verlaine was purely fictional, yet this is a real place and somehow she must had had some connections to this place.
Jennifer left the Hotel for almost a complete day. Where did she went?
Jennifer made a call from her Hotel room to a number which wasn't tracable.
The most biggest mystery is: Who was Lois Fergate? This person was also registered when she checked in. Here, things become confusing when employees of the Hotel were asked years later. Some said she was clearly seen with another man, other say she was alone.
The labels on her clothing were removed (probably by Jennifer herself), it wasn't tracable back where she purchased the clothing.
Forensics and Ballistics reconstructed her death some while ago saying that it is impossible for a woman of her stature to kill herself in such a "strange" way.
My clue is: There was someone else in the room on the day she came back to the Hotel. The next problem would be, how did anyone got away with murder here? It's more or less a locked room mystery. The Hotel room was locked and no one with the exception of Hotel staff was able to get in or out. The staff also confirmed that her door wasn't opened since the day she returned to her room.
Man, there is so many strange stuff that happened here that it is hard for me to list everyhting. If you are really interested in this case, I will link a few sources which prodiving a better work than myself and you might dig in into this weird case.
To this day, Jennifer Fairgate wasn't identified. We don't know her real name, her real age, her real origins. Her body was exhumed a while ago but without any groundbreaking results (we now know she was about correct about the age mentioned on her contact sheet). It's also a sad story because in all these years, no one ever came forward about this young woman. Someone must have known her, right? So, many things point out to espionage and and that she was a spy. But let's be honest here, there are far too many dead ends to proof or disproof anything. I don't even rule out suicide.
So I might ask, do you know more about this case? Is there any new revelation?

It's worth your time and in my opinion way better than the episode from Unsolved Mystery since here, they reconstruct a few scenes and even interviewed old staff employees from the time Jennifer was a guest at the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel in Oslo.

Is there any normal easy to use family tree software?
Don't get me wrong, but I'm not able find any decent family tree application on the market meeting my expectations.
What I am looking for:

1. cloud based with ios / android app support - my plan is to create tree and show it to my other family members (e.g. grandparents, cousins ..) via their tablets so they can click on each tree member and see its photos / videos

experience MyHeritage - Besides the look like it was developed in 1990 and laggy app on iPad , I cannot figure out how to view more than 60 people at once (tree will contain 150+ members). I cannot see it via web app either. Only via desktop app - FamilyTree Builder

1. easy to use - parents/grandparents should be able to modify tree (e.g. add photos) via app let's say "intuitively" :)
   
2. secure - tree must be absolutely private (without possibility to find matches from other trees), cannot by tracable by nobody but me. Since we are talking about quite confidental data I don't want to risk any data breach
   
3. access management - possibility to grant read/write access for my family members
   
4. print/export feature - in case I would like to print it phisically or into some jpeg file using some nice template (all 150 members together in one file). Maybe I'm missing something in configuration settings of each tested software, but everytime I will create simple tree with me, my siblings, cousins ... and try to export whole tree into some nice template, my siblings and everyone else cannot be included in tree. Just me and my family above / bellow. I'm not able to see my family, that is let's say on the same family level as me (cousins, siblings ...). Tried it on ancestry, roots magic 7.

Other remarks: I don't need any fancy high tech genealogy features (dna tests / tree matches / statistics ...etc). I just want to build normal simple cloud based / local based tree.
Observations:
• I've tried more than 10 various family tree desktop tools and I would say there is still huge gap on the market. Every desktop app looks like it was developed in 1990
• Some apps does not support encoding UTF-8 so I cannot even write my name correctly).
• All desktop apps are incredibly complicated.
• Many times happen, that gedcom files cannot be successfully imported to different software.
• Some apps does not support various relationships (partner could be only wife or husband. If couple is not maried but has kids it is not possible to add there just girlfriend or boyfriend. Also you cannot add there your exwifes / exhusbands)

I've had a fellow employee who hired just before COVID hit the US in March. This person (Well call them A) regularly harassed people at work, and even caused a different employee to quit, not long after A's hire.
I don't have a lot of people to vent to but it's really wearing on me having delt with it for almost a year now.
A gaslights myself and two other employees my age (B and C). This makes me believe there's a bias because A's always complaining about millennial.
Unfortunately A's also best friends with the manger (D). D, and the owner of the business (E) are complete push overs, which I think factors into why A's still around. Not to mention E has a hard time keeping employees because D is too flighty, and tends to forget a lot of things which causes a lot of undo stress, as well as a lack of structure and consistency in the business. Note this is a small business and there are 4 main staff, 1 secretary (who is the child of A; F), 2 machine operators/grounds keepers, and the owner.
Now that there's a little background laid out. I would like to note, I can't specifically say my line of work because it might make my rant tracable since it a very niche profession and with social media laws and employment.
So, A is a chronic liar. I started keeping a log with dates of things A has done and said to myself, B and C.
This started becoming a very apparent trend of harassment when my grandpa died in July. A decided to ask me, while I was crying and C was comforting me, "Don't you do anything around here?" I gave her a quick look, surprised, and A immediately says" Calm down. I'm just joking, b*."
Which didn't make C or myself too happy.
I continue my day trying to keep myself together and considering my profession A should know better how to handle this, as I was sluggish and slow given the circumstances of grief.
I was preparing to leave but was waiting on my family to call. I had notified both D and E of the situation and how I would be leaving short notice to go home and help my family through Funeral Arrangements, finding the will, and generally playing referee, as my family tends to buttheads. My concern was mostly my 2 cousins who were his adopted children, and my sister who I played mother to most my life. I wanted to help facilitate their grief the best I could.
I finally got the call, but had an obligation to my job as we were doing work with a 3rd party. During my work both A and B were working with me. A asks me, in a seemingly comforting voice, "So, what's going on?" I don’t talk much about my feelings and most definitely not to people I don't know well, or don't really get along with. So, choking back tears, I replied, "I don’t really want to talk about."
She starts nagging me out, "Well, we are your coworkers, we have a right to know when your leaving. It's your obligation to do (job) every night. You're leaving us high and dry. Everyone is mad at you." B by this point has walked away and hid around the corner to avoid the scenario, while our 3rd party was watching the whole thing unfold. I was not only upset A was basically yelling at me, but completely disenfranchised my grief. I eventually walked out to our vehicles and was trying hard not to cry. A and B eventually followed me out where A continued to a cost me saying, "How dare you leave us like this. We need you." And so on. As tears started to roll down my face she hugged me, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to make you upset. Why don't you go ahead and go back to the office ahead of us. We have it from here.
Would like to note, A did exactly the same thing to B when Bs adoptive grandfather died, and B only took a half day off for the funeral.
I called D crying my eyes out, and texted C what was going on. D told me no one was mad at me. I said yes they are A told me so, so I'm not going home. D urged me to go home and spend as much time with my family as needed.
I went home and told my family what happened and naturally they're upset about it. Especially how management did nothing.
I spent a week, but was daily harassed about when I was coming back by D.
Fast forward to exactly the 1 month anniversary of my grandfather's death, to the day. A decides to jump on me about how lazy I've been, and we have a sit down meeting because I am spending too much time at the desk doing “nothing” (i.e. studying for my law exam, making tests, and flash cards, as well as the prayer cards, and cremation certificates). After this meeting I am no longer allowed to sit and study when it is slow. When I am done with the certificates and regular paper work, I have to be up doing something. This is of course while everyone else sits around and watches videos on the internet, plays games, and uses facebook. Along with this incident, I am told to no longer talk to C on the job, despite needing to speak with him for dates for certificates. C starts handing all paperwork to D which then gets forwarded to me. I’m no longer allowed to help in the (machine area) at all.
My grandfather's death is brought up as a fighting point. I’m told once again that it’s not fair that I had a week off, and I am accused of stealing company time. My grandfather’s death continues to be the focal point of the event to the point in which I need to up all of my anxiety and depression medications just to make it through a work day. My grandfather’s death, while I had laid him to rest and was as okay as a person can be, was turned into a traumatic event because A couldn’t just let it go, and let him ‘stay in the ground.’
A calls me childish, because of this fight, then calls out of work for the weekend because she is upset with me.
Less than a week after the melt down, A's in question dog dies, and I am expected to be comforting, understanding, and not talk about the event unless it is brought up by A. A cries frequently on the job, and is even allowed to leave for periods of the day to be alone.
Things continue on this way for a while, I pretend to be alright. I start making a daily regimen of house cleaning. Which is still not enough, and I am continued to be treated as though I am lazy, to the point of no longer being granted the personal space to eat lunch. A starts to stand over me while I eat. I stop eating while at work all together.
A now starts following me around the [workplace] if I am out of sight. I can’t even use the restroom without being monitored. If I am not found - i.e. doing laundry, taking out the trash, or using the restroom - A starts stomping around the funeral home, and yelling to other employees, especially the [machine operators] (where A assumes I hide) “Where the f* is she?!”
I stop using the restroom at work to the best of my ability.
I could write for days, because its constant. There eventually becomes a pattern because D give me Tuesdays off in trade for working every Saturday. A doesn’t like this and anytime I mention going home on my Tuesday, there is an office dispute the next day. Over little random stuff that doesn't even really matter.
A's new thing is dress code. A has even harassed D and E into going along with the demands that none of us are any longer to wear anything but a business suit. Despite me never signing a contract and the precedent in place of mostly casual clothing unless on 3rd party business. Which means if it goes to court, they side with me given the time span in which I've never been spoken to about dress code or my attire. For a year and a half in down time and cleaning I have worn khaki colored or white pants with a nice shirt. Suddenly it's a huge issue to which A makes the comment. D and E are mad at you and B for not wearing suits everyday and "You’re lucky I'm not your manager."
Thats not close to everything I've been writing down. A pushes work onto everyone else, skips out on [job] and doesn't get talked to but if B skips on [job] B is reprimanded. A calls up stupid, A has fought with local clerks which D hides from E. A has been dishonest with 3rd parties, even stolen from 3rd parties to use as part of her racist Halloween costum (our 3rd party was a Sikh family). A screamed at a delivery person for going to the wrong door, calling them and I quote a "f*ing idiot", pulled C's hair, written on C's back. Accused myself, B, and C for talking about her when we were talking about C's hair flub (accidentally turned pink and orange while bleaching) and complained to D. We got reprimanded.
A always complaining about professionalism and how myself and B don't take the job serious enough, when A is awful to most people and drive 3rd parties away, and put a bad name in the community. Other 3rd parties she has been employed by cringe when they hear A's name stating that's why A doesn't work here anymore, and E should get rid of A if E knows what's good for the company.
Update Just got a text to work tomorrow because A doesn’t want to. I'm legally not allowed to under law because I'm no longer a registered resident or a licensed [job].
I'm just really stressed. Thanks for listening.
TLDR; A is a fing ahole that constantly harasses and threatens other employees, myself, and 3rd party vendors. I want to die but can't leave as I'm only a resident, which ended yesterday so I'm waiting for my results, and have to hold out for my license. My bosses don't do squat because they're cowards.
Also, realized my post history makes it pretty obvious what my job is... whoops... oh well. At least its not immediately searchable, and I attempted to be vague.

Here we go..
So, thanks to snowden, we know that the NSA under the US Government has collected an enormous amount of data on its citizens for over a decade. Phone calls, texts, photos, everything entered into the internet from an easy google search to the pron you watch can be traced right back to you. Google and its conglomerates, along with facebook/IG have been collecting all your personal data, messages, etc for what ever they want and can sell your info off to the highest bid.
Okay here we are. "Secrect social profiles" and consumer reports tracable right back to a unique citizen.
We know that the CCP uses this type of information and also manages their population with this sort of data. SOCIAL CREDIT SCORE. LOOK THAT UP.
In light of all the hacks, and selling of data, what if... all of this data was(there's a good possibility it is.) In the hands of CCP hands.
What if this data is being held in preparation for the big sell out of the "free world" by B&P4 politicians?
What if this data is being prepped to be used against you? Remember when HK finally was taken back by the mainland? Remember how they said crimes in violation of the ML law wouldn't be back dated held against the citizens of HK? That was not the truth.
We can follow the money on a lot of these big company c.e.o.s being ousted from the states or their ties to CCP.
I remember seeing something bout CCP leader, what ever his name was, is a fan of Sun tzu's art of war. Would it be too much to think that a super power like the ccp controlled china is waging an subvert war against their opposition?
Edit: if I took more than 10 minutes to share this I could have wrote this a little more fluently and make myself look like less of a crack pot. We can just call this a rough draft?
