2024.05.21 16:33 lce_Wallow_Kum 3rd PC exchange STILL BROKEN #cpsupport #cpgeneral

About a year ago I purchased a prebuilt 4070TI for about $2,600. [https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1743864-REG/cyberpowerpc_slc10220cpgv8_gamer_supreme_liquid_cool.html] This is the link to the EXACT build that i currently still have issues with. The first arrival of the pc came with the GPU being broken due to the hard foam packaging material that they insert inside. Due to the tight space the foam forced the the GPU downward and was broken. I then told support for an exchange due to the issue and weeks later i get my replacement. I literally can’t make this up but they sent me a broken down USED PC. Dust covered fans, rubber grip on the computer case completely dirty and broken off. The pc case glass had scratches and dirt. I showed the support team and had it exchanged now for the THIRD time. Now with this third “new” PC, it’s in a blue screen boot loop on start up with “System_thread_exception_not_handled” error code with the VGA and DRAM light glowing on the motherboard. I can’t access Safe Mode or the Operating system. Upon startup of the pc every single time it just loops on blue screen.
I’ve tried: - Updating BIOS - reseating RAM sticks - changing settings in BIOS - Changing out the SSD with a pre-install of windows 11

2024.05.20 04:27 Rhaynebow I reached my Stopping Point in Winds of Anthos! Here are my final thoughts! (Long read and language warning)

I reached my Stopping Point in Winds of Anthos! Here are my final thoughts! (Long read and language warning)
I overall had a fine time with this game. I've gotten my kid fully-grown, did the family outing event and grew everything but the giant crops because I don't have the patience to grow those. Every Harvest Fruit has been eaten and most of my tools upgraded.
Forging for stuff was probably my favorite thing to do because it felt great to run around on my horse (or dinosaur), picking up truffles, stopping to pick fruits and nuts off trees and fishing. I felt like a genuine explorer!
That said, I didn't like being responsible for all of bitch work in the villages. The word "materials" has been cursed by this game. Most of these towns are surrounded by trees and have mines a few feet away, why can't they just cut down their own trees?
And don't get me STARTED on the high quality lumber. You would assume you could obtain that stuff through an upgraded axe, but NNNNNNOPE, you can only occasionally get that stuff by winning contests, otherwise you'll have to buy it from the shop in Herbstburg for like, 2700g A PIECE. Yes, you can ALSO craft it, but you need to grow the rarer flowers as part of their recipe (a recipe you have to unlock the option to buy). And most of the time, any building or storyline quest that needs the high quality lumber needs quite a bit of it.
The clothing options are sadly quite limited, as cute as they are. And unlike One World, there's no all-weather clothing, so if I wanted to go to the desert, I'd have to ditch my winter outfit, which sucks because I love the winter clothes. (You can also just go to the desert at night because it becomes a cold weather climate at night).
Getting feed is a pain in the ass because only high quality fodder corn gets you the best crop-fodder ratio. It's easier to just cut the obnoxious pasture of weeds in Lectenbury to get you 29 bushels of fodder.
A few of the contests in the game felt straight up broken or at least rigged. The Advanced Equestrian Challenge race could easily be lost by your opponents pushing you out of the way as your character gets shoved around so easily. Each race has these stupidly narrow checkpoint fences that you HAVE to run through, but the game is so slippery, I've lost races thanks to Judy pushing me outside of them (She's lucky she was practically my son's wet nurse). The carrots are pointless too because they just make you risk missing the checkpoint even more.
Both of the "Rush" contests; the Fish Frenzy and Mining Meet give you too little time to get to the spots where you can actually do the thing you're trying to win the most points at. For the Fish Frenzy, you can only fish from certain spots in Lilikila, so you'll lose time just running to a dock. Most of your time in the Mining Meet will be spent trying to avoid pitfalls, smashing boulders to reach gem nodes and digging for the stairs.
The Anthos Expo is a legitimate challenge though, as you have to make sure your crops get as many nutrients as possible. Every 8th day of the month, which is 2 days before the Expo, there's a special moon that shines, giving a boost to your crops. The Tiny Goddess will tell you the theme for the Expo a few days before the 8th, so you'll have to calculate which crops to grow and when so their quality can be boosted by the moon. This is especially important with fast growing crops like turnips as they tend to not take fertilizer well thanks to how fast they grow. Unfortunately, winning the Anthos Expo is based on the star rank of your crops, dishes and animals. I've submitted giant crops and still lost because it only had 1 star. The only way to get 2 star crops is by growing a shit ton of them until you've reached the highest rank for that crop. And even then, a 2 star isn't guaranteed, moonlight and all of that magic crap. I gave up on winning the Advanced Expo, the rewards for the contests tend to be extremely weak if they're not the high quality lumber, typically a single gem or a bag of strawberry seeds.
As is the case for Natsume, their marriage candidates look great, but have the personalities of cardboard. What they're introduced doing is basically all that they are and what they'll talk about. Judy only talks about animals, Neil only talks about cooking, Kaimana only talks about fishing tackle, Aolani only talks about fish. And they tend to suffer from Spot the Main Character Syndrome as the NPCS are painfully under-designed compared to them. Your introduction to Nikolai is particularly hilarious because you walk into the clinic and see the plain Dolph in his gray sweater and behind him is this Emo Gakupo reading a book behind him.
Sometimes it's the opposite and they look TOO plain. Westley and Jacques look virtually the same and although I married Arnold, he looks more like the younger brother of a marriage candidate than a candidate himself. But he seemed like the type of overworking guy that could only be stopped by a kiss, so I picked him over Nikolai, Kaimana, and Judy.
Raising our kid Legato (because music) was a struggle, although it makes having kids in a farm sim actually feel like a challenge. The baby will be wolfing down milk for 3 seasons straight, so do Judy's requests often as she'll give you milk as a reward. Feed the little blob around 3-4 times a day and hopefully Tiny won't pester you.
WARNING: I encountered a glitch where while I was in the middle of charging my sickle to cut some weeds, Tiny alerted me that my baby needed me. I ended up stuck with my charging circle still around me, but I was no longer holding my sickle. I was unable to move nor pause the game to warp around, so I had to close the game entirely.
One really interesting thing I noticed though is that aside from two instances, your kid is referred to with gender neutral pronouns. At no point in the game was Legato called our son, not even in his character bio. He's simply our child and even the family outing events have the NPCs call him a child.
The game may have been rough around the edges, but I had a lot of fun with what worked. The world was huge, with lots of nooks and crannies to fish, forage, farm and tame. Sunsets were glowing and I was genuinely impressed by the night sky, the northern lights appearing every time. New seasons meant tides changing, which meant more areas to explore. Mining just a bit longer could lead you to underground ponds with rare fish. Storylines asking for hard-to-find materials were annoying, but also made the game last longer. Your stamina would deplete as you walked, but it was all the more reason to pace yourself. Explore a bit more everyday so you could find Harvest Fruit and boost your energy. Learn to cook for more replenishing meals, meaning learning how to grow better crops. Experimenting with crop locations so you can collect all of the mutations.
The length and size of the game leaves you with a sense of accomplishment. Things like crop mutations, forging, taming animals, fishing and mining take just long enough that you feel great when it's done.
Wrap up time.
FAVORITE VILLAGE: Lectenbury. Easy to navigate.
LEAST FAVORITE VILLAGE: Tie between Herbstburg and Lilikila. Both were hard to remember the location of certain stores.
FAVORITE FARM LOCATION: Herbstberg. Far from town, but the land is just big enough for crops and animals.(I'm currently at the Goddess Farm though because I'm the Supreme Leader fite me)
FAVORITE BACHELORETTE: Judy
FAVORITE BACHELOR: Kaimana for his looks. But he was all about that (sea)bass, so I ultimately dumped him
HOURS LOST TO THE WINDS OF ANTHOS: 186
Bye-bye!

2024.05.19 21:35 MGK_2 A Means to an End

It occurred to me that my previous post Changing Gears left people hanging. So, I felt compelled to follow up and give an answer.
Part 2.
So, I would say we have hit upon a link of sorts that exists between Merck and CytoDyn that cannot be denied.
As I alluded to in that post, there must have been a massive conflict of interest in CytoDyn's management BOD and Cyrus' intentions when it came time to making the decision to proceed or not to proceed with a fully funded MD Anderson combination Keytruda Clinical Trial for mCRC. While it would have been greatly in favor of CytoDyn to pursue this trial, the BOD incredulously made the unbelievable decision to walk away from it, completely against Cyrus' wishes. As we know, "Any government divided cannot stand. It will fall... eventually."
Was there an argument between Cyrus and Tanya? I'd say more than likely yes. He was still VP and remains as such. I believe the reason why the BOD decided the way they did was due to their 1st allegiance to the FDA and not doing anything that would risk the hold getting lifted. After all, they came too far to blow it at the last mile. However, it remains possible, that Merck did not want the MD Anderson Phase II Combination trial for mCRC to happen. After all, Merck just completed their own trial of Keytruda with their own CCR5 blockade Vicriviroc and the trial just finished last week. It failed. Maybe they needed time to see if their own CCR5 blockade would work before experimenting with ours at MD Anderson?
Could Merck have influenced the BOD in one way or another and push to cancel the free trial? The trial that Cyrus arranged which would provide CytoDyn with a vast amount of FREE unequivocal Research Data so valuable to CytoDyn. That would have provided that pot of gold, free of charge to CytoDyn. The unassailable and unequivocal data set which Cyrus absolutely required in order to properly present the Company to Big Pharma so as to receive proper bids and valuation. Merck could have been against proceeding in this trial because they had their own to try first and that might have influenced our BOD to pull the plug. Maybe Merck said, "wait, we want to try out our drug first. If it fails, we will be knocking on your door." And that was all which was necessary to get the BOD to comply.
Now, with Dr. Lalezari as CEO, CytoDyn is back on board in the pursuit of mCRC and his decision is supreme. Why wouldn't that fully funded MD Anderson trial still be an option? Maybe it still is available, but it would have to be a combination trial ONLY. The two drugs cannot be pitted one against the other. You cannot have leronlimab beating Keytruda. No absolutely not. Given that Keytruda is on the ticket, the FDA accepts the trial.
From this BioSpace Article March, 2023, Cyrus confidently asserted:
"These are both areas where checkpoint inhibitors have failed to show efficacy when added to a standard-of-care backbone, Arman said, adding that leronlimab has shown positive signals in both.
“From a mechanistic standpoint, we believe we could get a synergistic effect with a checkpoint inhibitor,” he said.
Leronlimab is currently being trialed in combination with Keytruda (pembrolizumab) in a breast cancer xenograft model in partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Arman said CytoDyn expects to observe an enhanced anti-tumor effect from the combination and identify immunological biomarkers."
From the May 2024 Letter to Shareholders, Dr. Lalezari stated:
"It is imperative that the Company generate unassailable results in the clinic and I believe the above trials can accomplish this*. Starting the oncology study and related fundraising is the top priority of the Company at this time"*
Both of them boldly claim the effectiveness of leronlimab in mCRC. Cyrus says it could generate a synergistic effect with Keytruda resulting from the combination of the two drugs, while Lalezari points to the unassailable results both must have appreciated. Certainly, both men have also seen the unassailable results that shall be described in the coming (2) journal articles in mTNBC. When Amarex was forced to hand over the raw data of these trials, it had to be decoded and put into FDA Good Clinical Practice format which took hours and hours of painstaking work, but it got done thanks to Bernie Cunningham, Joseph Miedling and the auditors Cyrus put into place for such work. What they found must have been truly amazing so as to compel them to put those results into peer reviewed journal articles.
In my prior thesis which u/psasoffice had also helped me determine, The Timeline and The Connections as to why CytoDyn pulled out, I discussed Kivlighn's role in the matter. Remember, I put forth that Kivlighn had pulled it away from Merck. That he took the free trial opportunity away from them so they could just buy us to perform the trial themselves. I said that Kivlighn caused CytoDyn's BOD to pull out of the trial in hopes of forcing Merck to swoop in and buy CytoDyn outright. I wrote:
"Kivlighn needed to determine CytoDyn's best path to partner. Kivlighn began changing the direction of the company while Cyrus Arman was sick. Cyrus was headed down the "do it alone" path. His main goal was MASH, but he also wanted to partner in Oncology and he wanted HIV, cure, long acting and was eyeing the resubmission of HIV-MDR. When Cyrus was out on MLOA, Kivlighn had the opportunity to modify or change Cyrus' original heading. Kivlighn wanted the company sold. He wanted the company partnered or bought out.
At some point, because of the results of the MD Anderson study, I believe Cyrus Arman had negotiated with MD Anderson on a CRC trial where CytoDyn would supply all the leronlimab, while MD Anderson did everything else. MD Anderson offered this to Cyrus and Cyrus was all in. Just waiting for the hold to lift. But, while Cyrus was sick and out on MLOA, and because Kivlighn had Merck experience and because Kivlighn "knew" how to make the company obtain a partnership, he recommended that CytoDyn turn down the MD Anderson offer to perform the CRC trial and to take that away from Merck. Almost like a "bait and switch". Kivlighn was thinking that if Merck really wanted CytoDyn, that they would come on in, swoop down and buy it outright, completely before anything was proven by trial, that might raise the asking price as they knew its capacity already given the study was with Keytruda, MD Anderson and leronlimab. They could do the trial themselves if they bought CytoDyn. Maybe, Kivlighn wanted to prevent Merck from thinking that they can wait to see how well leronlimab does in the MD Anderson sponsored trial which would give Merck some time before making the offer to buy CytoDyn. He wanted to take that away from Merck and force them to buy now. Because if the MD Anderson trial were to proceed in CRC, the good results would make CytoDyn even more valuable. I'm really not sure what Kivlighn was thinking, but whatever it was, it sure did piss off many people, especially Cyrus Arman."
If this conjectured hypothesis is right, then Kivlighn must also have believed, that the data in both the mCRC murine study and the mTNBC trial which he had also seen, in his opinion, was powerful enough such that a Phase II trial was not even necessary and a pull out of the trial would surely induce Merck, (who owned and possessed the murine data), to purchase the Company. Kivlighn knew Merck had the data staring them in the face day after day. Kivlighn had to be of the impression of "What, is Merck just going to sit back and do nothing with it?" Going into this murine study, CytoDyn was aware that they would have no way of proving the results, because they knew that the data would be owned by Merck once the study was complete. They had to have signed over the rights to that data to Merck when Kelly closed the deal. Kelly must have believed that if the study came back favorable, Merck then would be spurred to action. Kivlighn may not have been aware though, that at the time, Merck was running their own combination Keytruda + CCR5 Blockade Vicriviroc against mCRC while he was in the process of causing CytoDyn to pull out of the Phase II CRC trial. Therefore, the BOD, Kivlighn as well as Merck are all likely to blame for the cancellation of this otherwise windfall and gratis trial that CytoDyn could have immensely benefited from.
As to the pursuit of what the FDA intended for CytoDyn to proceed once coming off hold, which is the Inflammation and Immune Activation trial, it initially did not draw sufficient support from the public and therefore did not result in an increasing share price to the point to raise funds without completely depleting available shares. Therefore, CytoDyn now has its CEO and VP in concert back on the mCRC train again. But a partner is necessary and fund raising has become #1 priority.
Look, all of the companies are out to find the best weapon against these MSS tumors. Right now, there is no solution. Leronlimab is the solution and the data that proves it is in the hands of MD Anderson. Soon, data for it is forthcoming in the (2) peer reviewed journal articles in mTNBC. But regarding mCRC, that data resides with Merck and it is only in a murine study, inaccessible to CytoDyn, but apparently good enough to have been offered a fully funded Phase II combination trial with Merck's Keytruda. So, Dr. Lalezari made the decision to shift gears back to this new mCRC indication, but he needs money. He also needs a partner, because, so far, that same trial has been rescinded. But he has Cyrus there at his side and Cyrus somehow got MD Anderson together with Merck to create this Phase II trial. How did he do that? He had to have spoken to some Merck people to see if they wanted to take the profound murine mTNBC results and apply them towards some indication of their choice, such as mCRC and Merck agreed to fully fund the agreed upon human, phase II combo trial. Maybe he can do it all over again? I don't know if he would be able to do something like that with a manufacturer of another PD-1 blocker since the synergistic data is with Keytruda.
But this time around, the only way the trial could be run is as a combination only trial. The two drugs could not be pitted against each other. If they were synergistic before, then they are kept that way. Regardless of which PD-1 blockade is used, it should remain a combination trial because of the partnership. The partnership is more important than which drug is doing the work. But, Why would we want to experiment with another PD-1 blocker when we already have seen the results as synergistic? We wouldn't unless we were forced to. Meaning, Merck fails to enter again while another PD-1 comes in and partners. Would that induce a Merck counter bid? Assuming they have found no solution to their expiring patent problem, it probably would.
After all, why is every drug out there failing to extend their patent? Is Keytruda simply unable to treat MSS type tumors despite all means of assistance? But we have evidence of their synergism. Given that the only known substance on Earth that is capable of treating these MSS tumors is leronlimab, why have we not been the #1 choice to combine with? Until now, with the hold said and done with and given the new change in priority to mCRC, and with Merck's Keytruda with their own CCR5 blockade Vicriviroc Trial which failed, will Merck now be interested to take a second look at CytoDyn? How long will this search go on for? How many patients?
The provocative data is coming in peer reviewed journal articles that prove leronlimab treats the very difficult mTNBC. Merck already knows from the murine study that it treats the MSS mCRC tumors. What matters is that they have the data and that the data is unassailable as per Lalezari and Arman. They know and understand that by combining with leronlimab, they would have a successful result. The only problem is that it cannot be shown that leronlimab is better at the eradication of mCRC than Keytruda in a side-by-side comparison. Therefore, they cannot have a standalone leronlimab arm and a standalone Keytruda arm. The two cannot be pitted against each other. And I thank Respert24 for this ingenious answer.
"Notice they didn't create a Dud-Only arm versus a Keytruda-Only arm. A surefire way to inadvertently show that a different drug is better than your own. Keytruda is already "proven" and is going to want to run a trial that shows they can extend their patent. Similar to this trial, if we ended up in a trial with them it would, in my humble opinion, be Keytruda + LL all day. Maybe both of the doses we've had in studies (350/700).
What I don't expect is a trial that Cytodyn would run if there was no partnership, which is to compare and contrast LL to Keytruda. If Merck is running it they're just trying to show that together you see a better result, and boom! They've got new life and we've got the exciting new darling of the oncology world."
CytoDyn has seen the data on mCRC, but it is not in their pocket. However, they do have the mTNBC data, but no priority to target that right now. Is that because, Merck or MD Anderson might have an interest in treating mCRC MSS type tumors? You think? So, it seems like this won't be solved until Merck finds a solution to their problem before their patent expires. Patent expiration is the end all to all of this and they have 4 more years of trying to find something that will extend it. Something that allows it to be used on all MSS tumors, not just mCRC or mTNBC, but 85% of all cancers.
Given that Keytruda is the Darling of the Oncology World and given leronlimab is the only drug that can treat 85% of the oncologic tumors out there while Keytruda can only help less than 15%, doesn't it make sense for them to come together in combination therapy to treat the entirety of cancers across the board? In this way, so many of the world's problems could be wiped out in one solid partnership. Isn't the name of the game to have a therapeutic solution to the entirety of this disease? And who can't work with Lalezari? That is no excuse.

2024.05.19 10:58 jenajiejing The Secret of Human Bodies – Examples Proving the Existence of the Greatest Creator

Xue Feng Though the modern medicine has limited knowledge of human bodies, what we have known is enough for us to admire the excellent human body structure and functions. Each system and organ in the human body is designed by the Greatest Creator. Even those trivial body parts have great functions. For example, there are several types of hairs on human bodies with distinct forms and functions. The head hair is designed to protect and beautify the head. It can grow long. According to the Bible, “But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.” The eyebrows can divert sweat and rain, preventing them into the eyes. That’s why they are lined above the two eyes. Eyelashes can prevent the dust and other things from entering the eyes. That’s why they are lined on the sides of the eyelids. Also they stand forward in a special curve because it wouldn’t hinder the eyesight or pierce into the eyes when closing the eyes. If the eyebrows and eyelashes are too long, they will hinder the eyesight. That’s why they wouldn’t grow as long as the hair or beards. The nasal hairs can filter the inhaled air. That’s why they grow inside the nostril and stand sideways and outwards. If they stand inwards, the other things will find it easy to come into the nostrils and difficult to go out. The armpit hairs can prevent the partial friction and help the sweat evaporate. Without the armpit hairs, we have to raise our arms. Otherwise the skin under the arm will become inflamed because of the friction and moist. Required by the function, the armpit hairs cannot grow as long as the head hairs, or as short as the eyebrows. Besides, they are soft and curving. If they are rigid and coarse, they will hurt the skin. And cilia grow on the intestinal epithelium. The cilia grow downward and vibrate together. The vibrating waves move downward from upward to help move down the intestinal contents. Cilia also grow on the airway and bronchus epithelium. However, they grow and vibrate in the opposite direction as those on the intestinal epithelium. Only in this way can they move the sputum upward to the throat and spit them. If they grow downward, the airway and bronchus would get stuck by the sputum and the humans would die from it. Now I wish to take two simple reflections of human bodies as an example. When foreign matters enter the nostrils or airways, they will arouse two protective reflections, sneeze or cough, which is designed to repel the foreign matters. But due to different situation, these two reflections differ in their approaches. The foreign matters in the nostrils are not urgent so the sneeze reflection can be prepared in a composed way. First, inhale slowly; open the mouth, and the soft place move upward to block the nostril. Then breathe in enough air through the mouth, and the pleural body contracts sharply to emit the air in the lungs quickly. When the emitting reaches its peak, the tongue rises abruptly to block the mouth to repel the air to go out swiftly through the nostrils. In this way the foreign matters in the nostrils are driven out. However, if the foreign matters enter the airway, it is an emergent situation. If the foreign matters are not driven out timely, the life will be put at risk. The inhaling is strictly forbidden because it will make the foreign matters go deeper and cause suffocation. So the cough doesn’t include the inhaling. Instead, the glottis closes immediately. At the same time, the pleural body contracts suddenly and adds the lung air pressure extremely. When the pressure is at its strongest point, the glottis opens suddenly and the lung air sends out explosively, compelling the foreign matters in the airway to the throat via the glottis. At this time, the soft place rises to block the nostrils. The foreign matters are spit out through the mouth. If the tongue and the soft place perform the same way as in the sneeze, the foreign matters emitted out of the airway will enter the nostrils, causing another trouble. In these two reflections, the body parts must cooperate closely. Any failure in the coordination will lead to the failure of the reflection, causing serious consequences. So these activities are not done freely. Instead, they are done as required by their functions and set procedures. These procedures are not learnt or practices. The program has been rooted in our brain nerve structure (nerve nucleus) when we are born. Otherwise, the babies will not survive. The advanced computer science has made it possible to simulate these activities. However, the simulation requires 3 conditions: 1. Device simulating the inhale and exhaling of human mouth, nose, throat, pleural and the sensing device; 2. The central control equipment simulating nerves and body system (compute, input and output devices). The above two devices are hardware. And software is also needed, namely (3). A program composed in strict compliance with the requirements to control the performance and procedure of each link, and arrange them in perfect coordination. All the three conditions are imperative. Otherwise the reflections can’t be realized. The program itself is not a substance structure. Instead, it is a smart use and spiritual result. There will be no such a thing as the program without the smart use. So we have to ask, the program is composed by the humans and stored in the computer, how about the control program in the human brain. Is it also composed by someone and stored in the human brain? Sneeze and cough are the simplest examples. There are numerous automatically controlled physical, bio-chemical and pathological human body activities, which are even more sophisticated than reflections of cough. Even today, some of them remain mysteries to us. So how are these sophisticated control programs composed? And where do they come from? Now let’s have a look at the sensory organs on human bodies. Why do we have two ears? The reason is that one ear is not able to identify the direction. With the ears lying on two sides of the head, the sound reaches the ears in sequence of time. Based on the slight receiving time difference, the brain can judge where the sound comes from. The auricle is the most outward component of the ear. It can introduce the sound into the external auditory canal. Within the auricle there is a thin layer of cartilage helping to retain the form of auricle, giving it wonderful elasticity and protecting it from the clashes. Without the cartilage, the auricle is just two useless pieces of skin hanging on the head side. If the thin bone is inside the auricle, it will break easily even if when you are sleeping on your side, damaging the auricle. There is fuzz on the outer segment of the external auditory canal preventing the sand and dust. The inner segment secretes cerumen to prevent insects. When foreign matters enter the external auditory canal, it will trigger head shaking, instead of sneeze or cough, to get the matters out. Because the external auditory canal is a blind passage, it is impossible to repel the foreign matters with air. Why don’t the foreign matters in the nostrils arouse the head-shaking reflection to repel them? That’s because the nostrils of humans almost lie in the middle of the head. The shaking is not able to produce enough centrifugal force. Besides, the human nostrils face downward and it is improper to repel the foreign matters by shaking the head. The sound is produced by the mechanical vibration of objects and is transmitted by the air fluctuation, or the sound waves. The human ears are actually working like a precise mechanical vibration monitor. In the inner ear there are a number of keyboards with different sizes, producing nerve impulses produced by echoing with corresponding frequencies. The brain, in accordance with the features of these impulses, identifies the strength, tunes and timbre of the sounds. We must note though there are many sensory organs in human bodies, only the inner ear is protected by the most solid and firm bones. In fact, it lies in the cave part of the temporal bone. Of all the sensory organs, only the ears monitor the mechanical vibration, which needs a relatively fixed position. Otherwise, it is not able to monitor the sound. If the inner ear lies in the soft tissues, when the sound wave arrives, the inner ear will vibrate with it. Thus it can hear nothing. Now the inner ear lies in the firm bone and it can’t sense the air vibration. So it is imperative to reduce the density waves to the mechanical vibrations before sending them to the inner ear. And there is such a reduction device at the middle bottom of the external auditory canal, which is called the eardrum. The eardrum has enough space to receive the air pressure. It is thin enough to vibrate when the sound wave arrives. Meanwhile, the eardrum is strong enough to push the transmission device. The long handle of the middle ear cartilage is attached to its inner side, the tensile force of which makes the eardrum sink inside slightly to maintain certain tension. This allows the eardrum to accurately reduce the arriving sound waves into the mechanical vibrations. No matter what the temperature is, the vibration function is not impacted. After the sound waves are reduced into the mechanical vibration, some rigid objects are needed to transmit the vibration to the inner ear. Of all body tissues, the most rigid objects are the bones. However, the bones are heavy in general and covered by the soft tissues, which are not suitable for the audio vibration. However, in the tympanic cavity between the eardrum and the inner ear, there are three unique tiny bones with delicate forms measured in millimeters. They are almost completely exposed to the air in the tympanic cavity. These three tiny bones are connected by ligament and form a transmission chain in curve with excellent audio vibration function, able to transmit accurately the vibration of the eardrum to the inner ear. The transmission device can properly multiply the weak vibration and reduce the strong sound wave. All of these structures are the super designs required by the acoustics. There are even smarter designs in the hearing organ. For example, to make the eardrum vibrate freely following the arriving sound waves, the two sides of the eardrums must be exposed to the air. As a result, there is a tympanic cavity full of air in the middle ear. If the cavity is filled by liquids, just as other cavities are, the eardrum is not able to vibrate because the liquids can’t contract. Besides, the cavity does not only need to be filled with air, but also needs to be connected to the outside world with a proper passage, to balance the static air pressure in the cavity with the outside air pressure. Otherwise, the air in the cavity will gradually be absorbed, causing the eardrum to sink excessively or damaging it. When the outside air pressure changes, (such as in mountain climbing, diving, the airplane takeoff or climate change), it will arouse uncomfortable feelings or lead to hearing malfunction. But the middle ear can’t be opened to the outside world directly, just like the external auditory canal or nostrils can. The reason is that the direct exposure will make the arriving waving sound reach the two sides of the eardrums at the same time via the external auditory canal and middle ear passage, counteracting the sound pressure. Thus the eardrums will not vibrate at all, unable to produce the hearing. So it is a difficult problem to connect the middle ear and the outside world. However, the human body, with a smart design, solves this problem. The middle ear is opened at the two sides in the upper rear of the pharynx via a half-opened passage (the so-called auditory tube). The auditory tube is locked in common times and only opened temporarily when taking the swallowing actions, balancing the air pressure in the middle ear shortly. After the swallowing action is over, the auditory tube is locked again. Apart from eating, human body would regularly take swallowing action unconsciously, even when he or she is sleeping. Thus the air pressure in the middle ear can be adjusted from time to time and avoid the hearing from being hindered. Besides, when swallowing, the swallowing segment and the soft palate will definitely rise, blocking the mouth and nostrils against the outside world. So on the moment when the ear and throat are opened shortly, though the air in the throat can enter the middle ear, the sound waves from the outside world are blocked against the middle ear. As a result, the hearing will not be interfered and can receive the outside sound and voice. Only the throat in the body can meet the special demand of the hearing organs. The throat is originally designed as part of the digestion and breathing system, it does not belong to sensory system. However, it can cooperate so smartly with the hearing organs. We have to admire the extremely delicate body-wise design. The vestibule in the inner ear controls the balance of the body. In the vestibule there are 3 semicircular canals. When the body loses balance, the mutually-vertical semicircular canals produce the balance impulse, which triggers the corresponding reflection via the balance center in the medulla brain. Why are there 3 semicircular canals instead of 2 or 4? And why are they mutually vertical? The reason is apparent. Humans live in the 3-dimensional space. There are 3 mutually-vertical movement directions, namely, front and rear, left and right, upward and downward. So the 3 mutually-vertical semicircular canals can monitor the movements. The number less than 3 or more than 3 would be insufficient or redundant. We can see the delicate and smart structure and function, and the supreme wisdom in them. They can’t be the accidental results. As the most important perception of human bodies, vision provides more information than that provided by all other perceptions. The vision is the perception of image and space and the visual organs must have the most precise and accurate structure completely different from other sensory organs. As a result, in the perspective of the embryo-genesis or neuro-anatomy, the main structure of the eyes is not just the common receptor. Instead, it is part of the cerebral cortex. The so-called optic nerves are completely different from other cerebrospinal nerves. In essence, the optic nerves are inner structure in the brain, transmitting the most sophisticated visual information. The eyes function like a precise camera. The retina composed of the photoreceptor cells is just like the films. The crystal, iris and the cornea works like the lens, diaphragm and the filter. However, the precision and automatic adjustment of the eyes is no match of any high-quality cameras. For example, the lens in modern cameras is made of special glass or hard plastics with fixed focal distance. When taking pictures for the landscapes with different distances, the lens position must be adjusted. Otherwise, the image will not be produced on the films. But this is an awkward approach. Imagine when the eyes are watching landscapes with different distances, the eyeballs have to protrude or recess alternatively, which looks ugly or damages the health and function of the eyes. However, the crystal in the eyes are transparent and elastic colloid, which can adjust automatically the focal distance in accordance with the distance of the objects to make sure all the objects can be imaged on the retina, without changing the position of the crystal. Such automatic adjustment function can’t be fulfilled by any camera. If we observe the eyes in the perspective of modern TV technologies, the eyes are more like the television camera, but thousands of times more precise than the television cameras. The TV image is composed of dense pixels (the mixed dark or brilliant light spots). Till now, the best TV image only contains less than 1 million pixels. However, the human eyes can produce image containing 20 billion pixels. Only the eyes can see the details of objects. No matter how clear or accurate the image is, it is still a plan view image. Then how the eyes can provide the dimensional image is a key issue of providing the complete vision. But it is not an easy task at all to convert the flat view image into the dimensional one. For a long time, people have been puzzled by how the conversion is done. Of course, we later knew the smartness and delicacy of the human body shown here. The two eyes send the flat view images they receive into the same nerve center, which contrasts and analyzes the images and judges the distance of the objects based on the slight visual angle difference caused by the position difference of the two eyes. Thus the dimensional image is produced. That’s why people have to have 2 eyes to establish the complete vision. Based on such understanding, humans have invented the dimensional movies. But the above is only the external process of how vision is formed. People have little knowledge about how the visual center works inside. We have to admit that the mysteries of human body structure and functions are beyond the intelligence of mankind. As a matter of fact, the distance judgment with two eyes is the triangulation technique which is precise and automatic. The accurate measurement needs two premises. First, the two eyes must focus on one object at the same time. Otherwise, there will be double vision, which means the one objects will be seen as two objects. As a result, the complete neuromuscular system is equipped on the outside of the eyeballs, making the eyeballs the most flexible and accurate organs. The ciliary muscle inside the eyeballs can adjust the conversion rate of the crystal at any time to focus on the object and form the clearest image. Second, the retina of the two eyes must be strictly symmetrical. Otherwise, the image contrast of the two eyes will become impossible. Furthermore, the images received by the two eyes must be transmitted at the same time to the same visual center for contrast and analysis. There are two visual nerves on the left and right side of the brain, supervising respectively the two sides of the vision field. The objects in the left of the vision field are reflected, via the eye pupil, on the retina of the right sides of the two eyeballs. The corresponding images in the two eyes, via the visual nerve, are sent to the visual center on the right side of the brain. The objects in the right of the vision field are reflected, via the eye pupil, on the retina of the left sides of the two eyeballs. The corresponding images in the two eyes, via the visual nerve, are sent to the visual center on the left side of the brain. The two visual nerves contrast the corresponding images coming from the eyes and produce the full-field dimensional images. The pairs of human parts are often symmetrical on the outside. Only the retinas are symmetrical in the same position. Namely, the left side is symmetrical to the left side and the right side symmetrical to the right side of the two retinas. That’s because the light rays come in directly. Otherwise, the visual centers can’t receive the corresponding images or get the coordinated vision. The structural symmetry of the retinas in the two eyes must be accurate to the utmost. Otherwise the images in the two eyes will not comply with each other and the ambiguity will occur. Besides, the corresponding images from the two eyes must be sent to the same visual center. Thus the optic nerves must have the corresponding special structure to realize the cross-transmission of the images. This is the unique “chiasma opticum” unique to the optic nerves. This function is not possessed by any other nervus cerebrospinalis because they don’t handle the information of images and space. If we use the computers and monitoring cameras to simulate the process of human vision, the input network of the computers has to have a similar chiasm. No other design can do it. Judging from the above, we can find all the human organs, structures and functions have shown the supreme wisdom. And these are the ways they should be. Some people think that human body has some useless organs, such as the thymus gland, appendix, tonsil and coccyx, in order to prove the human structure is imperfect. Some people used to believe that these organs were not that useful. Instead, they tend to arouse diseases such as appendicitis and tonsillitis. If these organs are cut off, it will not have much impact on the human body. In the past, people used to classify spleens and other organs into the useless organs. There was a list of useless organs in the past which included over 100 organs. But the list was long not because these organs are useless but because people at the time were ignorant. As more we know about the organs, most of them have been deleted from the list and there are only a few still remain in the list. Some people think that these organs are the leftovers of human evolution, which are called the “waste back organs” and use them as one of the evidences of evolution theory. This is a complete misunderstanding. Till not we have understood there are no such things as the “obsolescent organs”. It is simply the lack of knowledge of these organs. Take the thymus gland as an example. In the past, people didn’t know its function. Now we have understood it is the warning device of the human body against the inner and outer infection sources. As a result, the thymus gland contributes a lot to the human health. Another example, if the coccyx fractures, it will cause serious functional disturbance. So the coccyx is also an imperative part of human body. Some people might say these organs can trigger diseases. Then all human organs can lead to diseases, even brain and heart are of no exceptions. Why don’t we say the brain and heart are useless? Some organs, though they are not as important as the heart and brain and wouldn’t endanger life immediately when eliminated, are also useful. Just like if the hands or feet are lost, though not fatal, the human body is handicapped. After knowing the supreme and smart design of human structures and functions, you might want to know how they come into being. Who has designed and made such sophisticated and precise organs? We cannot avoid the question. Any truth-seeking person would admit that the extremely delicate organs and structures are not produced naturally or accidently. For instance, if someone gives you a top-class camera and tells you it is a natural one without designer or manufacturer; do you think his words are scientific and acceptable? The human body, which is even more delicate, accurate, flexible and practical, must have a supremely wise and capable creator behind it. On a spring Sunday morning in 1954, I saw a young stranger sitting in the chamber of a Church. When we started to talk, I knew that he was a student at Peking Union Medical College. He said to me, “Since I studied anatomy and physiology, I have felt the human body is really a wonder. It is not possible to understand it unless we interpret the wonder with a God.” He came to the church to seek an answer. The wonder of this young man is not the only example. I remember that when I was studying anatomy and physiology in school, some students surrounded our physiology teacher and kept asking him questions. Finally, the teacher, annoyed by so many questions, told us, “Please stop the questions because they will lead to religion in the end.” Because of the special political background at the time, the teacher’s warning silenced all the students. But his warning impressed me deeply and remained in my memory till today. My thought at that time was that the teacher was right because all the things were created by the God. Though he was not a Christian, he had to admit the truth and the further probe into the human body mysteries (part of the Universe mysteries) would definitely lead to the existence of the God (religion) in the end. Otherwise, it would be impossible to explain the wonders of the human body. The Bible says, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”(1:20 Romans 1) Was the teacher demonstrating his scientific spirit? No. The scientific spirit means the truth and boldly pursuit of the truth without avoiding any controversy. The teacher knew very clearly that one more step forward would lead to the God but he dared not move onto the path towards the truth. Instead, he asked his students to stop there. It has shown that many people refuse to admit the existence of God not because they don’t have the scientific spirit but because of the social pressure, individual consideration for their interest and prospect, just as what the teacher was doing at that time. Nevertheless, the existence of the God would not change. And we cannot live in such considerations for the reality forever. One day in the future, when we have to face the ultimate choice, we will have to face the supreme master who has created the Universe and the human beings. The Bible says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” If we don’t accept the immoral God now, we have no excuse when it comes to the day. When we talk about the origin of all things in the Universe, some young people often ask, “You have said the humans are created by the God, then who has created the God?” The analogizing logics seem to be reasonable. But it is not true. Because the God is the creator instead of the created, you can’t link these together. The table is made by the carpenter. But you cannot say the carpenter and the table have the same origin. Human benings’ understand of the God is only limited to the enlightenment from the God to the humans. Otherwise, humans cannot understand the mystery of God’s nature. The God says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Exodus 3:14 and Revelation 1:8). For the God, there is only the eternality, and there is no time, beginning or ending. Even in the scientific field, too many analogizing questions won’t be tolerated. One scholar was talking about the belief in the God with his students. One student asked suddenly and proudly, “Where does the Universe come from?” The scholar answers, “The Universe is created by the God.” The student continued to ask, “Who has created the God?” The scholar answered, “The God is Alpha and Omega and I am not created.” The student said, “This is not scientific at all.” The scholar then asked the student, “Where does the Earth come from?” The student answered, “The Earth comes from the Sun.” The scholar continued to ask, “Where does the Sun come from?” The student answered, “The Sun comes from the Galaxy.” The scholar asked again, “Where does the Galaxy come from?” The student hesitated and answered, “The Galaxy comes from the nature.” The scholar continued to ask, “Where does the nature come from?” The student couldn’t answer this question and said in anger, “The nature is the nature and comes naturally.” The scholar then laughed, “This is not scientific at all.” So we can conclude that the “scientific” answers are not scientific. Another example is that the sciences tell people that substances are composed of the molecules. Then what are the molecules composed of? The molecules are composed of the atoms. But what are the atoms composed of? They are composed of the electrons, protons and neutrons. Then what are the electrons, protons and neutrons composed of? Till now, we cannot find an answer to this question. The atomic physicists are now working hard to find the “elementary particle”. They are called “basic particles” because the scientists don’t expect the substances to be divided limitlessly. So they believe that one day they will find the ultimate component, the “elementary particle”. Of course, the scientists will not ask such question of “what is something composed of?” This is the extremity and everything ends here. The materialists claim that the Universe is limitless and that the materials are eternal and can be divided limitlessly, etc. They are simply the groundless conclusion of the philosophers. And there is an extremity in their logics, the materials. They say that the materials are Alpha and Omega but can’t tell where the materials come from. Now let’s have a look at the math. All numbers come from 1, followed by 2, 3…. You can’t ask what the 1 is because 1 is 1, and not other numbers. It means that 1 is the origin of all numbers. The Greatest Creator has created all things and the Greatest Creator is the origin of them. It will be meaningless to ask where the Greatest Creator comes from.

Though the modern medicine has limited knowledge of human bodies, what we have known is enough for us to admire the excellent human body structure and functions.

2024.05.19 07:45 PerilousPlatypus [WP] After being exiled to Earth, you found a spouse and had a family. Earth was just invaded and your family was killed. Now you get to remind everyone why you were exiled.

The exile was expected. Inevitable.
They had handed me the means necessary for victory -- total control. Countless planets had been placed under my command. Every resource had been dedicated to my exclusive discretion. The laws of the Panesian Senate suspended save one: Dictatus Supreme.
I had refused, at first.
But eventually, I answered their call. I took on the mantle of Dictator and I waged the terrible, bloody war no one else would wage. It came at a terrible cost. To us. To them.
Mostly to them.
In the end, half the galaxy lay in ruins, with billions of lives scoured from existence. The Panesian Confederation survived and the Thrax'in Empire was no more.
I was thanked.
Then I was exiled.
Retired, as they called it. Offered a life of peace in exchange for the ocean of blood on my hands. A Dictator could not remain in the Panesian Confederation, it posed too great a risk to democracy restored after the Writ of Dictatus Supreme had ended. I understood, though I couldn't bring myself to be thankful in that moment.
But that would change. I was exiled to a wayward planet, multiple jumps away from anything remotely relevant. The planet was compatible and the local species reasonably hospitable. They were some distance from discovering hyper accelerative technologies, but there was enough to lead a reasonably happy existence.
And I did.
Eventually. It took time for the shock of the war to fade, for my nights to be filled with anything other than the seared memories of what had come before. After time, those memories were replaced by the moments I shared with my family. Warm moments of love. Quiet moments of shared peace.
They say time heals all wounds. Perhaps that's true, but I found a family does the job far better.
Until it was taken away.
The attack came suddenly. Searing red streaks of flame painted the night sky as the Thrax'in landed their expeditionary force. Their goals were simple enough: pacify the population, strip the resources of interest, and then move on.
Humanity was in no position to resist, though they made an admirable effort. There is little drones and ballistics can do against mechs with energy shields. The battle for Earth was over in a few hours. Billions were killed. My family among them.
It was there, in the ruins of my home, that I learned an important truth: A defeated enemy is not the same as an eradicated enemy. For all of my successes in the war, I had not truly won. So long as a Thrax'in lived, they would be a threat to others. Families would continue to die, and it would be my fault.
Thankfully, I knew a thing or two about fighting them. Things Humanity would benefit from. Things even an exile could do. Things that would remind the Thrax'in and everyone else, why I was exiled in the first place.
It began simply. Small. This was not a war to be won by direct confrontation. I was no longer Dictator. Thousands of planets did not await my call. Instead, I would be a cancer within. Growing and metastasizing. Devouring them from within.
Yes, it began simply.
What could be more simple than surrender?
A passing patrol, sweeping the ruins, was only to happy to take me in. They stomped close, looming over me in their mechs. I could hear the chittering between them, could smell the Thrax'in musk.
I looked up at them. A docile Human, shivering and bewildered, hands in the air. An easy target.
The Thrax'in could never resist an easy target.
One reached toward me, the mech's hand clamping down on my arm. Well, not my arm. The arm of my own mech, the bio-engineered Panesian suit of distilled mayhem I had been gifted to allow me to blend in.
Look like a Human.
Talk like a Human.
Kill like a Panesian.
Nanites flowed from my suit and onto the surface of the Thrax'in mech, infiltrating its internal systems. Data began to flow back to me, depicting the status of the local battle sphere. Numerous meat ships were gathering the remaining Humans up while extractors were beginning to drain resources. Among them were the various Thrax'in military units as well as a smattering of hot spots indicating continued Human resistance.
I stumbled along beside the mech as it ushered me toward a meat ship. By the time I reached the ship, seventy-four Thrax'in mechs were infected. Two transports. Six integrated computer systems.
When I boarded the ship, it was already mine.
The Exile had returned.

2024.05.18 21:53 Licilynn12 Healing from mold 11 months later

Hey guys, so I figured I’d make a post on healing from toxic mold. I haven’t been on here lately because I truly feel like I’ve got to a point where I no longer needed to rely on this account with all the different treatments I’ve been focusing on for the last 11 months. I feel incredibly good and truly feel like I’ve gotten my self back. I do have some symptoms left, but it’s so tolerable. Now I know my body is healing. My family moved out of toxic mold last July and 2023. I never thought I would ever feel this good again. I felt so lost and I thought that was gonna be my life forever. Everything I have done has been consistently used, especially taking herbs, binders, and antifungals, and really digging deeper than just mold toxicity. We all know we have parasites, so that was a huge one for me. I also have a lot of heavy metals that I’ve been tackling toxicity, candida, overgrowth, and chronic Lyme. Everything that I did range from some hyperbaric oxygen chamber sessions, biofeedback, qest, NAET therapy, foot detox baths, body/emotion code, herbs that are broad spectrum to tackle everything I’m dealing with, anti fungals, and binders. I did infared sauna a few times, but I would get too sick. I would love to try it again now that I’m feeling a lot better.
I was taking almost 15 different types of supplements which I won’t name all because I finally found a couple that has helped me the most I wouldn’t want anyone to waste their money on the other herbs/ supplements.
Supplements they i feel like has really helped me
Bodybio pc Armra I01 (this one has given me the most results) Golden thread from supreme nutrition Takesumi which is a binder.
I took way too many other ones that may have helped, but didn’t really move the needle for me like these have .
Now I’m down to just taking the i01 and armra and i truly feel so dang good and amazing.
if you are someone dealing with mold toxicity and maybe chronic lyme, I hope this can help you and there is light at the end of the tunnel. I truly felt like there wasn’t when I was in the thick of it, but with persistence on finding all kinds of ways to heal, you will get there .
On the bright side of everything because I know that everyone wants to know results I’ve been doing bio feedback which has been telling me my fungal and mold numbers and since taking one of the supplements was only thing i did differently in just a month and a half my numbers went down 20 points according to biofeedback.

2024.05.18 21:34 Michtrk 1946-1952 The Rest of the World

JAPAN
12 April 1946 – surrender of Japan, brief premiership of Naruhiko Higashikuni (14 April to 9 June 1946), followed by Kijūrō Shidehara. Occupation mostly carried by US troops, but also Commonwealth zone (UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand), led by Douglas MacArthur as the SCAP (Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers)
Situation is even way worse than in our reality thanks to all the destruction. First effort is gíve relief to the starving population. Even greater than in our reality are efforts to remove Hirohito (and it is impossible to imagine for the most of Allied leaders including Truman and Churchill to keep him on the throne after this brutal invasion), and despite opposition of MacArthur, Allies force the emperor to abdicate (and renounce divine status) in favour of regency headed by Takahito, (27 July 1946), when Akihito comes to age, he would become the Emperor. Hirohito’s abdication marks the beginning of Seika era, era of Emperor Akihito.
Hirohito is still given all possible protections against any trials for war crimes by MacArthur and is basically sent to comfortable retirement. Institution of monarchy is protected by Allies. Through 1946-1947 many westernisation reforms by MacArthur, based largely on FDR’s New Deal, as in our reality. April-May, political prisoners were released, and Communist Party of Japan was legalised and became politically active organising strikes. 10 February 1947 the first election with women suffrage, victory of Democratic Liberal Party headed by war criminal Hatoyama, who was eventually purged by Allied administration, so Shigeru Yoshida became new prime minister (22 March 1947).
By mid-1947 many officials connected to war crimes were purged, however since then, the course was reversed due to American need for the creation of a powerful Ally against the USSR and many regained power or at least avoided persecution. Through 1947 Americans wrote a new Japanese constitution (later in American myths it was MacArthur completely by himself), 3 August 1947 it was presented. Major shift from our reality is that Article 9, although considered, is not included in such sense as in our reality, it states only that “Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes” second part about demilitarisation is missing. Since summer 1947, US authorities adopt “Reverse Course” policies - aforementioned rehabilitation of officials, also protection of Zaibatsu (which Americans originally wanted to break-up and weaken), and reconstruction. Tokyo Trials 26 September 1946 to 12 January 1950 – MacArthur’s cover up of Japanese war crimes to a lesser extent, but it still does happen (including Unit 731). Taft also, like in Germany, attacks trials as “victor's justice”. From 25 December to 31 1950 Khabarovsk war crimes trials in the USSR about war criminals from Manchuria.
Persecution of growing Japanese communist movement starts. 1948-1951 “Red Purge”. Since March 1949 Dodge Line plan of right-wing economic reforms (cutting public spending, limiting public consumption, and reorienting industrial production in favour of export-oriented), also increase in unemployment and law against unions passed. In 1949 conflicts between communists and authorities escalated into many strikes, pro-communist politicians and officials began to be fired, after summer strike waves also purges of workers and academics. 1 July 1949 Japanese Self-Defence forces established – official remilitarisation. 23 October 1949 election, victory of DLP, electoral success of communists.
Peace Treaty with Japan
President Taft was eager to restore Japanese Independence – SCAP already transferred large amount of authority to Japanese trough 1949, secretary of the state William Richards Castle Jr took initiative. Despite Taft’s initial opposition to idea of continuous military presence, he is persuaded to keep limited number of stationed troops. Peace Treaty with Japan was scheduled after Treaty with Germany. Talks began in August 1950, however talks collapsed over China, despite at the time everyone recognised KMT, Soviets wanted PRC representatives to also attend. Other negotiations were called for January 1951, which resulted into calling for a Peace Conference with Japan in San Francisco analogous to the previous one with Germany. 6 March to 8 August 1951 San Francisco Conference, USSR and its allies boycotted them due to not including Chinese representatives. Despite Chinese and Soviets not being present, their interests were considered. Taiwan was ceded to China, Sakhalin, and Kuril Islands to USSR, unlike OTL Okinawa and more territories were already given back to Japan. Treaty was signed 8 August 1951, valid since 8 March 1952. Separate peace treaties were signed between Japan and ROC (30 January 1953), the Soviet Union and Korea “Vladivostok Treaties” 28 April 1952, these treaties recognised Soviet control over former Japanese territories and entitled Japan to pay reparations to Korea.
8 September 1951 U.S.-Japan Security Treaty was signed, which dictated Japan to accept continuous American military presence. This treaty caused a wave of resistance in Japan, uniting Japanese from right to left. Bloody May Day – over a million protestors in all of Japan, in Tokyo these protests escalated into violence and protests were massacred by police. 1 October 1952 election victory of Yoshida’s Liberal Party. 10 November 1952 coronation ceremony of Emperor Akihito, it marks symbolic beginning of new post-war Japan.
Philippines – 4 July 1947 United States gave official independence to Philippines and retained there many military bases (agreement from 1946 establishes bases for 99 years!) and the US still keeps a degree of political and economic dominance. 28 June 1946 Manuel Roxas became president of Philippines (still under US control then), communists were expelled from Congress despite being democratically elected – Hukbalahap Rebellion resumes (June 1946) and gained substantial strength, United States interferes and supports the government. On 15 April 1948 Roxas died of a heart attack; he was succeeded by vice-president Elpidio Quirino (re-elected in a fraudulent election 8 November 1949). Since the Taft Presidency, interests of Americans in Philippine affairs decreased, aid against Huks drained. President Quirino initiated major social reforms during his second term and attempted mostly useful land reform. 1950-1951 Huks successfully boosted their strength with seizing and keeping control over the centre of Laguna province – Santa Cruz. In 1952 Huks controlled sizable parts of the country and due to government corruption and brutality against rebels had also popular support. In 1951 they started to obtain massive support from China (from 1948 they were also backed by Korea).
Indonesia
Independence
As Japan surrendered, two days later on 14 April 1946 Indonesia (then with its majority under Japanese control) Indonesia declared independence, Sukarno became president and Hatta vice-president. Indonesians took advantage of the lack of established authority. Indonesia was occupied by Commonwealth forces (started in late May 1946). 27 June to 20 July 1946 a large battle between Indonesian and British forces – Battle of Surabaya, under significant losses results into a British victory. Churchill wanted to restore Dutch colonial rule and was ready to back them.
Important is Dutch reaction, Dutch government at the time was coalition between all parties formed after liberation by the Red Army in September 1945 (in wikibox there is 1946, another mistake overlook until I needed that), all parties with exception of CPN supported re-conquest of Indonesia, while communists wanted to grand them independence. CPN is vigorously opposed to continued colonisation and due to CPN securing second place in 1946 election and to lesser degree Soviet pressure on Dutch to recognise Indonesia, talks began in February 1947. Coincidentally with the December 1946 election there was a Malino Conference in which representatives of Dutch controlled territory backed the plan for creation of Dutch aligned federal states. 15 February 1947 Linggadjati Round Table Agreement is signed, in which Netherlands recognises Indonesian Republic controlled territory and both sides agree on formation of the Federal Republic of Indonesia (Republic, East Indonesia and Kalimantan) by 1 January 1948, FRI would newly formed Netherlands-Indonesian Union with the Dutch monarch as head. Similar agreement was reached in our reality but failed. In this timeline everything goes through, despite the fall of the Dutch coalition in summer 1947.
Federation
First Indonesian prime minister under Sutan Sjahrir (April to 3 December 1946), replaced by Amir Sjarifuddin, his cabinet included leftist forces, eventually even communists, who were instrumental in making agreement with the Netherlands (as part of the Dutch coalition were also communist negotiators). This cabinet stayed in power, avoiding real life events of the Madiun Affair. New government headed by Mohammad Hatta was formed after the creation of the federal republic. Creation of this republic was met with criticism from Islamists, who launched the Darul Islam rebellion led by Sekarmadji Maridjan Kartosoewirjo (7 August 1948). Overall, young Indonesia was a very unstable country. Anti-unitary forces attempted a failed coup in January 1950. Federation was not popular among Indonesians, so it was quickly dissolved and replaced with a unitary republic (14 April 1950). The Republic of South Maluku attempted to break away with Dutch support, however failed to do so.
Liberal Democratic Period (to 1952)
Newly declared Indonesian republic adopted its constitution and became a free parliamentary democracy. First government was a leftwing one again under Sjarifuddin, however eventually collapsed due to Indonesian National Party (12 October 1950, replaced by cabinet of Mohammad Natsir), but this government managed to pass electoral law, so first Indonesian legislative elections were held (29 September 1951), lot of parties ran and get seats – four largest were PNI (left wing nationalism), Masyumi (liberal Islamism), Nahdlatul Ulama (Islamism), PKI (communists) and PSI- Parsi (democratic socialism). Result was a right leaning coalition under Sidik Djojosukarto (PNI- Masyumi and several minor parties), in 1952 Indonesia officially left “Union” with Netherlands.
British Malaya
1 November 1946 British colonies were united into the “Malayan Union”, strengthening and centralising British control, stripping local sultans of their powers. This created another opposition movement under nationalist United Malays National Organisation, they applied massive resistance and did not participate in British institutions. Unlike OTL, during the Churchill years, there was no reform. In 1952 (1 February) it was transformed due to this massive and long resistance (and also due to large scale communist uprising) to Federation of Malaya, attempting to appease at least conservative nationalists.
Anti–British National Liberation War (early years)
Postwar economic turmoil, powerful communist organisation, brutal response of colonial authorities to strikers. Malaya was a key British source of resources, to pay for US debts (even way more rising in importance after Taft). 17 June 1948 Sungai Siput incident – revenge killing of plantation managers lead to massive British anti-communist arrests, and communists went into hiding. Also, the uprising in Burma (1947) also plays a role as another new motivation. February 1949 Malayan National Liberation Army under Chin Peng is formed (reformed from anti-Japanese resistance movement), MNLA has support of the population and is based in jungles and areas very hard to access for colonialists. Britain imposes very harsh repression against the population, leading to even more widespread support for MNLA. April 1950 “Briggs Plan” adopted forced deportations of ethnic Chinese to camps (up to half million people). The UK also uses Agent Orange (as the first country in the World), murders and tortures countless civilians, and destroys villages.
6 October 1951 British High Commissioner Henry Gurney survives MNLA ambush, this is actually damaging to the British as his replacement Gerald Templer was more competent in fighting with partisans. British forces are aided by other commonwealth nations. By 1953 the UK had problems dealing with communists and communists were stronger compared to our reality.
British Sarawak, North Borneo, Brunei
These territories were separated from Malaya in 1946. This was opposed by Malays but supported by the Chinese. Resistance by Malays culminated in assassination of Duncan Stewart. Small communist rebellion also started.
Thailand – After the war in June 1946 king Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII) returned back to Thailand, however, was found shot dead on 26 March 1947 his death was blamed on prime minister Pridi Banomyong, who was forced to resign being replaced by Luang Thamrong.
In 1946 Thailand had to return territories to France. The 20 October 1946 election resulted in the victory of the People's Party, the first government was formed by Khuang Aphaiwong, he was however replaced by Pridi Banomyong after a lost vote of confidence (6 January 1947). Pridi was supportive of Vietnamese Independence, so he ended up being overthrown in a US backed coup (8 November 1947), this coup brough Plaek Pibulsonggram back to power. Military allied with royalists and Khuang Aphaiwong was appointed prime minister. New constitution gave back powers to Monarchythat were decreased in the 1932 revolution. To counter the power of royalist military and Pridi allied supporters, another coup was carried out on 6 April 1948, fully returning Plaek to power; he eventually secured power and foced Pridi into exile. Plaek attempted to fully secure power and destroy opposition, but due to lack of US support since 1949, he was eventually ousted by Pridi and his supporters (11 February 1949). New Direk Jayanama-led left-wing democratic government, managed to secure limited support of USSR and larger one of China (but also Britain due to their previous alliance with Allies) and tried to adopt non alignment foreign political stance. Internal political reforms – reduced power of monarchy, new legislature (in June 1950 democratic election), thanks popular policy of land reform government gained widespread support from the rural population. 29 November 1951 anti-Pridi parts of the military attempted a coup against him as returned from exile Plaek Phibunsongkhram, but eventually failed and Plaek was banished. In 1952 the government turned against conservative royalists and attempted to even further weaken the monarchy.
Vietnam
March Revolution 16 March to 15 April, Abdication of Emperor Bảo Đại (already before surrender of Japan because of fears of French invasion) -> creation of Vietnamese Democratic Republic. In late April North Vietnam was occupied by Chinese forces to accept the surrender of the Japanese. In March also general Leclerc arrives. Fontainebleau Agreements in mid-1946 between Vietnam and France, Vietnam as part of the French Union. With the return of France (November 1946) fighting erupted, war erupted in March 1947. By October France took over main population centres. To increase French support, State of Vietnam was created under emperor Bao Dai (2 August 1949) In 1950 Vietnam recognised by the soviet bloc. Same year the UK recognised the State of Vietnam. In late 1950 Viet Minh launched a successful offensive. In January 1951 de Tassigny was appointed to command, under his leadership France had limited military success. Hower financing the war became a major problem around this time. In March 1951 Viet Minh won in the crucial battle of Vĩnh Yên (17 March) and Viet Minh got close to Hanoi, but the French eventually managed to hold the city after heavy losses.
Change came in 1952 from Paris, talks started in February and eventually ceasefire was declared (28 February). Paris Conference – France officially recognised Democratic Republic of Vietnam, State of Vietnam was not invited as France and DRV both agreed that it was French colony (this was heavily criticised). End of war was also connected with referendum about future of Vietnam, if people support State of Vietnam in union with France or DRV. Referendum was held 14 June 1952 and resulted into landslide victory for Vietminh. Emperor abdicates and State of Vietnam dissolves, but some members of its military continue to resist DRV.
Newly independent Vietnam became a key ally for all of the socialist bloc in Asia and supported anti-colonial movements. In 1952 land reform began – often turned violent with execution of landlords. In 1953 the first five-year plan was launched, focusing on developing the country.
Laos – After the defeat of Japanese anti-colonial Lao Issara emerged. Lao monarch king Sisavang Vong however agreed with restoration of the French protectorate, Lao Issara with aid from China and Viet Minh attempted to resist re-imposition of French rule, however movement was weak and failed to do so and eventually dissolved itself in 1949. In January 1947 an agreement was signed that pledged France to give Laos autonomy inside the French Union. 1950 – Pathet Lao is formed and joins Viet Minh against French forces. In 1952 French officially withdrew from the country.
Cambodia – In 1946 king Norodom Sihanouk attempted to negotiate independence with the French, December 1946 election was held that resulted in victory of the left-wing Democratic party over conservative Liberal party. 23 October 1947 Democratic party dominated assembly passed a constitution modelled on the French one. After the death of Democratic party founder Sisowath Yuthevong, the party divided itself and cannot agree on a concrete program. In 1948 Cambodia was given autonomy by the French. After independence in April 1952, Democratic Party was largely boosted by this success. This avoided the fall of parliamentary democracy.
Ceylon (Sri Lanka)– Sri Lankan leaders led by Don Stephen Senanayake attempted to reach independence through negotiations. However, negotiations with secretary of colonies Oliver Stanley led only to self-governance and the British initially rejected granting Ceylon status of dominion. On 24 September 1947 Senanayake became the first prime minister of the newly formed Ceylonese government. In 1948 granting Dominion status to India led to demonstrations in Ceylon, Senanayake increased his pressure towards Britain. Eventually Ceylon was given the same status as India and Pakistan 4 February 1949. The Senanayake family had a lot of power, after the death of Senanayake (26 March 1952) his son Dudley was chosen by the British governor.
OCEANIA AND AMERICAS (Basically restating history with occasional minor changes, brief)
Australia – 5 July 1945 death of prime minister John Curtin, he was succeeded by Frank Forde until Labour elected Ben Chifley as its new leader. 28 October 1946 Labour government was re-elected against the emerging Liberal Party. His government was characterised by successful Keynesian social democratic politics, similar to later Attlee in UK, (social welfare, universal healthcare – in real life modelled after British one, this timeline it is vice versa, ie. The Chifley government serves as an example for Attlee elected in 1951) starting Australian postwar economic growth. Australia also supports migration to increase its population (Europeans due to the still existing “White Australia” policy). Left-wing policies, such as nationalisations, created opposition from capitalists and their conservative affiliates in politics and media. Criticism also comes from the left due to the government's anti-communism and breaking of strikes. 10 December 1949 Liberal prime minister Robert Menzies was elected. Anti-communism, in 1950 Communist party was banned, it was ruled unconstitutional. 28 April 1951 a new election, triggered the failure of the banking bill, still a victory for Liberals, however they weakened themselves with this move. In 1951 Menzies declared a referendum about banning communist parties and this timeline people agreed, leading to persecution of many communists, it was criticised as a major attack on freedom of political expression. Red Scare was similar to the US at the time, but pushed by Menzies' government. Liberal economic policies, this time taking inspiration from Taft.
New Zealand – 27 November 1946 election, victory of ruling Labour Party, Labour declined and lost popularity due to continuous post-war rationing and Fraser’s support for compulsory military service. 30 November 1949 National Party led by Sidney Holland was elected. The Legislation was changed from bicameral to unicameral, economic reforms, however the National government still supported the welfare state. Conflict with Unions, culminating into the waterfront dispute of 1951, the government responded harshly against workers with strong anti-union legislation, even outright criminalising support for them. 11 July 1951 the government was re-elected and gained more seats as a large part of the public supported their stance against workers, due to widespread anti-communism.
Oceania – “Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands” established in 1948 was originally controlled by the USA as OTL, but eventually transferred to the United Kingdom in 1950, as the US was not interested in its administration.
Canada – economic boom, social welfare Keynesian economic policies. 20 May 1946 first postwar election, victory of Liberals, however failed to obtain majority and had to rely on leftwing Co-operative Commonwealth, resulting in Canada building the strongest welfare state from Commonwealth states and becoming the most progressive one (and also becoming a major destination for European immigrants). On 15 November 1948 King retired and was succeeded by Louis St. Laurent, a French Canadian strongly opposed to communism. Due to this anti-communist however the ruling coalition collapsed, triggering snap election on 27 June 1949, which resulted in victory of Liberals, who yet again could form government without making coalitions. Shortly before the election, 31 March 1949 Canada united with NewFoundland. Canada took an important role while the US was absent in TATO.
Mexico – 1 December 1946 Miguel Alemán Valdés became president. Pro-business policies and industrialisation, development of infrastructure (dubbed Mexican miracle), however also corruption and elitism. Pro-American foreign policy. 1 December 1952 he was succeeded by Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, he was popular due to his strong stance against corruption and rapid economic development.
Guatemala – In 1944 the country was ruled by dictator Jorge Ubico, who was overthrown by a junta that was overthrown in a popular revolution (20 October 1944), 15 March 1945 Juan José Arévalo became the country's first democratically elected president, who introduced many reforms. He developed the political ideology of Arevalismo "spiritual socialism" -it can be considered a form of democratic socialism. 12 November 1950 Jacobo Árbenz was elected president, he continued the policies of Arévalo and was even more ambitious with his democratic socialist reforms. Largest one was Land Reform (17 June 1952) which greatly benefited hundred of thousands poor Guatemalan people especially indigenous ones, however made very angry American United Fruit Company that controlled majority of land and basically country itself, UFC began to lobby for his overthrown...
British Honduras – Rise of voice for independence and People's United Party
Honduras – Rule of pro American dictator Tiburcio Carías Andino, unlike OTL he did not gave power to his puppets and continued to rule the country directly. Rise of discounted with his regime, even greater due any reforms instituted by his successor Juan Manuel Gálvez were not passed.
El Salvador – Authoritarian rule of Salvador Castaneda Castro (1945-1948), suppression of strikes and opposition, eventually he was deposed by military coup (14.12.1948), after rule of military, Óscar Osorio was appointed president (14.9.1950), he instituted some social reforms, but continued corrupt regime and persecution of opposition.
Nicaragua – Dictatorial rule of pro-American Somoza dynasty. 1947-1950 figurehead presidency of Leonardo Argüello Barreto (after Truman’s pressure for liberalisation).
Costa Rica – 12 March – 24 April 1948 civil war, after an attempt to annul victory of opposition candidate José Figueres Ferrer in election, it ultimately led to victory of rebels with US help. José Figueres Ferrer became provisional president. and pushed many important reforms: abolished the military, gave women suffrage, welfare, nationalisations of banks and also outlawed communist party. 1949-1953 presidency of Otilio Ulate Blanco that upheld these reforms.
Panama – pro-American parliamentary democracy dominated by oligarchy.
Colombia – 9 April 1948 popular democratic socialist presidential candidate of the Liberal Party Jorge Eliécer Gaitán was assassinated. This triggered the “La Violencia” (1948-1958) period of massive unrest between the left and the right, over 200 000 died, at the start of the Colombian conflict. On 9 November 1949 Liberal opposition attempted to impeach president Ospina Pérez, he dissolved Congress, creating a presidential dictatorship. Liberal leaders launched an uprising in rural areas (originally it was intended to be a military coup, that however in real life did not take place and here took place and failed). 7 August 1950 new Conservative dictatorial president Laureano Gómez Castro, admirer of Franco, suffered a major heart attack and power was transferred to Roberto Urdaneta Arbeláez in 1951.
Venezuela – 18 October 1945 military coup that brought democracy to Venezuela (October 1946 and December 1947 democratic elections) under president Rómulo Betancourt. The 1940s economy also boomed thanks to oil. However, on 24 November 1948, the military staged a coup and Marcos Pérez Jiménez became dictator, under his oppressive regime there was great economic development, and he was close to the US.
Ecuador – President José María Velasco Ibarra was ousted in military coup (23 August 1947), 1947-1948 unstable country was ruled by military Carlos Mancheno Cajas, eventually military gave power to former vice-president Mariano Suárez Veintimilla, who gave his powers to Congress that elected Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola (31 August 1947). His presidency was strongly allied with the United States. 1 September 1948 Galo Plaza, another strongly pro-American figure, became the next president. He supported technocratic approach, democracy and was very open to foreign (mostly American) influence, exporting bananas to America. 1 June 1952 José María Velasco Ibarra (former deposed president, established politician and Ecuadorian nationalist) won election and became president for third term, his term was stable and brought progress, mostly in great development of infrastructure.
Brazil – Fourth Brazilian Republic, president Eurico Gaspar Dutra (1946-1951). Close relations with the US, liberal economic policy. 31 January 1951 Vargas returned after victory in the 3 October 1950 election. Keynesian economic policy, 1953 creation of PETROBRAS. Rua Tonelero shooting an assassination attempt on leading opposition member Carlos Lacerda (5August 1954) blamed on Vargas by opposition in a strong campaign, 24 August 1954 he committed suicide.
Perú – 1945 leftwing president José Luis Bustamante y Rivero, restoration of democracy. 29 October 1948 military seized power in a coup after murder of a prominent right-wing editor. Manuel Odría's regime strongly persecuted leftwing APRA, supported powerful oligarchy and gained favour of people thanks to populist rhetoric and policies.
Bolivia – 1947 to 1949 rule of Enrique Hertzog, conservative American aligned government. Economy in a terrible state, social unrest and intensified class struggle. Dominant opposition group was Nationalist Revolutionary Movement (MRN) with a program of nationalisations and land reform. Next president Mamerto Urriolagoitía installed military rule (16 May 1951) under Hugo Ballivián. 9 April 1952 Bolivian National Revolution overthrew the junta. Víctor Paz Estenssoro became president. Many left-wing and democratic reforms transformed the country: universal suffrage, nationalisation of mining, large land reform (however created farms were eventually again taken over by large landowners), great influence of trade unions and workers.
Paraguay – Dictator Higinio Morínigo was pushed by the US to liberalise his regime, he legalised political parties and formed a coalition between Colorado and Febreristas. Later ones resigned from the government (11 January 1947) and united with opposition forces (Liberals and Communists) and attempted to topple his regime starting a civil war (7 March – 20 August 1947), despite opposition having popular support, and the government was saved by the US and Argentina. All parties with exception of Colorado were banned and the country became one party state. 16 August 1948 leader of Colorado Juan Natalicio González was elected president. He promoted nationalist policies; several American companies were nationalised. Due to American non-interventionism, three attempted coups against the president failed due to lack of any outside support. In other ways Paraguay was a stable country during his presidency.
Uruguay – functioning democracy, dominance of liberal Colorado party. Presidents: Juan José de Amézaga (1943-1947) – social reforms, economic stability and growth. Tomás Berreta (1947) died in office, Luis Batlle Berres (1947-1951) continued social and leftwing economic reforms.
Chile – Democratic presidential republic. September 1946 presidential election, Gabriel González Videla (Radical) elected. During his presidency many communist strikes, under US pressure Videla passed “Permanent Defense of Democracy Law” (8.9.1948) that banned the communist party, many imprisoned, strikes brutally suppressed, relations with socialist bloc broken. Radicals created alliance with Liberals and Conservatives. 4 September 1952 resulted in the victory of former president nationalist general Carlos Ibáñez del Campo. He repealed the ban on communists and also gained support from the left.
Argentina – Peron and Peronism. Nationalism, populism, social welfare, improvement of working conditions, development of local industry, growing power of the trade unions, authoritarian rule and persecution of opposition etc. Non-aligned foreign policy stance. 26 July 1952 death of Eva Peron.
Cuba – Presidents Ramón Grau (44-48) and Carlos Prío Socarrás (48-52) of left-wing nationalist Partido Auténtico. 10.3.1952 democracy overthrown by Batista’s coup. Pro-American authoritarian regime, serving interests of American elites owning majority of the county.
Haiti – 1946 revolution (11.1) – military seized power and new National Assembly was elected, Dumarsais Estimé became president (16 August 1946 to 10 May 1950), attempts of reforms, focused on expanding education, expansion of worker’s rights, creation of social security system (no passed), major nationalisations. His presidency was marked by growth and economic development. In foreign policy he was allied towards the US. After he tried to extend his time in office, he was removed by the military. General Paul Magloire became new president, he was elected president in 1950 first direct election.
Dominican Republic – Totalitarian far-right dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. Ally of the US.

2024.05.17 05:22 sliceofpear Boris Yeltsin destroyed the USSR just because he was impressed with the candy selection at a Houston supermarket

I stumbled across this long passage by Lev Sukhanov, Yeltsin's assistant at the time, from his book "3 years with Boris Yeltsin". The events described occurred in September 1989 and I've recited the passages below:
“When we were already returning to the airport, the devil pushed us to take a look at a typical American supermarket.
It was called Randall's Supermarket. From our group, only Boris Nikolaevich and I had never been to this kind of trading establishments.
Moreover, this was not a metropolitan, much less a New York store and, according to our standards, a very “ordinary” provincial one. If, of course, Houston can be considered a province.
Getting off the bus, I began to look for a crowd of people and something similar to our queues. However, there was no queue — neither around nor in the store itself.
It was a one-story building made of light metal structures. Naturally, none of the service personnel knew about our arrival and therefore there could be no talk of any “showing off”. An ordinary day, an “ordinary” assortment, “ordinary” visitors...
I was immediately struck by the abundance of light. And in general, the color scheme of everything was so bright and impressive that it felt like we were descending into the depths of a kaleidoscope.
The abundance of flowers was also mesmerizing - juicy, vibrant, as if just cut from a flower bed. Moreover, the flowers were not for sale, but as a decorative element.
As soon as we entered the supermarket, they called someone from the administration. From somewhere in the belly of the utility rooms appeared a very handsome young man in a snow-white shirt, neatly combed and, of course, smiling. It was the chief administrator. We introduced ourselves and said that we would like to find out about the work of the store.
When we walked along the rows, our eyes didn’t know where to stop. I could guess different things, but what I saw in this supermarket was no less amazing than America itself.
Some of us started counting the types of hams. We lost count.
I remembered our sausage shop on Krasnaya Presnya, where back in 1963 you could buy “Brunswick”, “Stolichnaya”, “Tambov”, “Uglich”, “Krakov” and a few other types of sausages. At that time, I thought this was the top of human dreams and that the first signs of communism hatched. To be fair, over the years, the store’s shelves began to empty and now only memories of its bright past remained. I remembered that Soviet store and compared it with this one in Houston, and realized that the abundance to which Khrushchev promised to lead us had passed us by.
At that moment (in Houston), all 300 Soviet research institutes and departments, whose job was to point to the advantages of socialism over capitalism could be trying to convinced me, but their efforts would be pointless.
The American reality, on the example of this supermarket, looked 100 times more convincing than any Soviet theories. Sure, not by bread alone a man lives... Not by sausage alone, not by cheese alone...
By the way, have you seen red, brown, lemon-orange cheese? How many types of cheese do you think we've seen in Houston? What about ham? All this unimaginable delicacy that everyone can try right in the store and decide — is it worth spending dollars on?
We couldn’t count the names of sweets and cakes, couldn’t grasp their variety of colors and their appetizing attractiveness with our eyes.
And although I am trying to convey my impressions, I understand that this is just a pathetic attempt, because the word is powerless before the reality of what that American store could offer.
Occasionally, I glanced at Yeltsin and noticed that it was a difficult test for him. And when a woman with a trolley caught up with him, on top of which a little boy was sitting, Boris Nikolaevich, apologizing, began to question her.
Does she often go to this store? It turned out, only on Saturdays.
Is your family big? 3 people: she, husband and child.
What is your family income? The woman explained that she was temporarily not working and lived on her husband’s salary, $3,600 a month.
Yeltsin asked how much she usually spends on food? It turned out that this family was spending about $170 on food for a week. From Saturday to Saturday. She still paid rent, insurance...
In the vegetable section, we were literally shocked by the quality of the produce.
A radish the size of a large potato was illuminated by bright light, and water was scattered onto it from small “spirits.”
Radishes were literally dazzling, and next to them were onions, garlic, eggplants, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumbers.
You want smoked eel — here.
Would you like lamprey? Or is your liver accustomed to sturgeon and oysters? Pineapples, bananas…
And at the confectionery section, one can could stand for hours: it probably surpasses Hollywood in terms of entertainment. A huge cake representing a hockey arena awaited the customer on a stand. The player figures were made of chocolate. A real work of art, and most importantly — accessible, quite accessible.
In general, this was a hypertensive topic. For Boris Nikolaevich and me, visiting the supermarket was a real shock.
As I am writing this book, my wife today (September 1991) went to the store to buy milk at 7 am, but there were queues. Queues are everywhere: you have to stand for 2 days to buy sugar. And this is here — in Moscow, in the second half of the 20th century, 73 years after the Great Revolution. At the time, when, according to Khrushchev’s calculations, we should all already be living under communism. Or maybe what we had built in the USSR is the true communism?
At the exit from the American supermarket, the girl sitting at the cash register didn’t not have to count anything. In her hands, she held a small device that resembled a hair dryer, which she quickly ran over the price code on the packages. After this operation, the price appeared on the computer cash register screen, the customer paid and could freely pass through the electronic turnstile. Well, what else could be simpler and smarter than such a system?
When we left the supermarket, the administrator gave us a present: a huge plastic bag with the packs of food from this store.
I fully believe that it was after Houston (after visiting the supermarket), on the plane, that Yeltsin’s last faith in his Bolshevik way of thinking finally collapsed.
Perhaps, in those moments of spiritual turmoil, the decision to leave the Communist party and join the struggle for supreme power in Russia irrevocably matured in him.”
It was then that Yeltsin realized that all the stories of “international journalists” about American workers who allegedly were dying in hellish poverty and dreamed only about moving to the USSR, all these stories were nothing more than propaganda. Even the party “elites” did not know that.
I know the dissolution of the USSR was much more complicated than one person, but this alcoholic piece of shit destroyed the lives of millions of people and set the history of humanity down a rapidly destructive path just because he was amazed by some brands of ham and tinsel. To Yeltsin being able to chose from a thousand brands of mass-produced highly processed junk food that's all owned by one conglomerate was more important than maintaining his country. Fuck Gorbachev but especially fuck Yeltsin, at least Gorbachev pretended to care about his people and communism while Yeltsin sold his country to a handful of oligarch thugs just because he thought there's no greater tragedy than being able to purchase 10 different brands of processed garbage.
Imperialism would have been able to disintegrate the Soviet Union, had the Soviets not destroyed themselves, had those responsible for the strategies and tactics and for the country's political and government policies not destroyed the country. In other words, socialism did not die from natural causes: it was a suicide, socialism was murdered.

2024.05.14 08:52 AncientPC Thoughts and tips after climbing to 10k in 2 weeks.

Yes, I had a lot of time. I originally played this game when it launched during the pandemic and stopped at 1k trophies, and picked it up again ~3 years later. I want to share my thoughts about the last ~15 days while it's still fresh and answer any questions people might have.
I have a 43% win rate in 3600 BR games, and 300+ games with each of the following heroes: Angel, Bastion, Blizzard, Blot, Cyclops, Ghost, Levi, Lynx, Ramsay, Raven, Sparkle, Vi. I have the most fun with Angel, Raven, Ramsay, and Lynx.
I've unlocked every hero except Alice, paid for Blizzard and Vi.

Trophy Tiers

Broadly speaking, the percentage of poor players decreases as you gain higher trophies. Being completely honest, I saw a bunch of mistakes made by enemies, teammates, and myself at 9k trophies. At 10k+ trophies, most of the mistakes I see are my own.

Low Tier: <3k

I have a second account on an old phone at this tier that I use to play under powered / rarely used heroes in casual games. It's mostly bots and occasional humans with rudimentary gameplay.

Mid Tier: 3-7k

People are still misplaying all the time, but in general are improving and trying to coordinate as a team. Pickup teams are pretty easy to create and people are generally friendly. Honestly, I probably had the most fun at this tier since I enjoy playing the game casually with a variety of heroes and different team compositions (vs trying to win all the time).
There's still plenty of bots in offpeak hours.

High Tier: >7k

This is the first tier where it starts to get competitive. Relatedly, this is also the first tier I started seeing bad manners and griefing.
Early on when I was around 2k, I teamed up with some high trophy players and played in 10k games. That's when I learned first hand how much faster and aggressive the game was. On certain maps (Bank, Village, Hotel), fights will often initiate after picking up ~2 items.
As for bad manners, I'm used to it from playing plenty of other online games but enjoyed the fact that Bullet Echo largely doesn't have it. However at 7k+, now you get a lot of people bm'ing when they kill you, if two people fight over an item, etc. It most commonly manifests as sprays/stickers, but also a lot of head shaking and the occasional teamkill grenade for taking "their" item.
Pickup teams are a lot more mercenary. People join up, and if the team loses most will leave; there's little to no chat banter anymore. If someone misplays a few times, they often get kicked from the team, the team is disbanded, and/or they get defriended. This, uhh, has totally never happened to me.

10k

The "end game." Heroes' power typically ranges 1650 - 2200 (Ultimate level 70 to Immortal), with the occasional Divine player. There's relatively few bots during peak times.
The games are fast and brutal, and any small mistake is quickly exploited. My winrate has dropped significantly even when playing my better characters, but I'm learning. Pre-10k, I'd typically open 3x battle and skull chests under 30 minutes. Now, opening battle/skull chests and winning contracts has become significantly harder.

Bravery Road

I don't have any experience with this tier since I lack Divine heroes. Others have shared that it's mostly full of bots.

Heroes

Tier List

This is based on 9k+ trophy BR in the hands of a good player:

Hero Investment

First off, invest in heroes that you enjoy playing regardless of tier lists. If you want recommendations for <7k gameplay, here's my list:
That's at least one hero per class (for contracts and gameplay variety), but a heavy bias towards Skytech faction because of all the shields.

Bastion

Bastion is great for bot farming and low / mid tier gameplay, but is easily outplayed in 7k+ games. I had a bunch of mid tier Bastion friends that I invited to 7k+ games and they've always left after a few games due to being outplayed.
Outplaying Bastion is usually done through kiting or baiting and flanking with teammates since their range is too short and movement speed is too slow. Bastion (and Blot to an extent) is outclassed by more mobile shield heroes: Angel, Hurricane, Satoshi.
Leviathan gets a special call out since his turret is great for zoning and has extended spray that can be abused to hit behind walls.

Grenade Users (Firefly/Shenji/Sparkles/Freddie)

Pre-10k, most of these are terrible nade spammers hoping to get an easy kill. I've seen so many Firefly users use more nades than bullets in a round, adding little value chucking nades into thin air. Shenji users, please use your nades to zone the enemies and less about trying to kill them. Also stop burning the grass because you can, especially when you're up against snipers.

Vi

My win rate with Vi is significantly higher than the rest of the field, which shows how broken she is. I think she needs to be nerfed, and she's my most played and highest leveled character (Stellar).
I also have some bad experiences after teaming up with a bunch of Vi-only tryhards (about 6-8 different teammates for 5+ games each). They're generally incredibly aggressive and good at racking up a high kill count, but often lack map awareness or team dynamics besides spamming, "Let's go!"

Tips

League

Climb as fast as you can, as high as you can since you get more loot per chest depending on your league level, and streaking gets harder the higher you climb in trophies. Bot farming (read below) is the easiest way to streak games and hit the next league level.
I think there is an argument to be made about staying in purple 1. I found it significantly easier to win most of the contracts at purple 1, but I was grouped with all the other grinders once I hit purple 2. This might be a red herring though.

Resources

Spending Money

Contracts

Star Pass

Technology

It's $10/mo. You get a random hero motivated and 8 drone plugins (2 of each color) per week, and 10 tech tokens/day. 70 tech tokens/week is enough to get drone blueprints, 2xpersonal gears boxes, some squad gear, 500 nuts, and 5 costume tokens. Also your name is highlighted in gold.
I think it's great for the first month or two for the personal gear and drone parts, but not sure if it's worth keeping afterwards.

Bots

Recognizing bots means you can adapt your strategy when playing with and against them.

Identification

Pre-game

In game

Farming (BR, SvS, sabo, koth)

Bot farming is a great way to hit the streak for a league jump or grind for festival tokens.
I find sabo, SvS, and sometimes arcade in offpeak hours (or other region's servers) the easiest modes for bot farming.
Generally bots will collect a few items and start roaming looking for enemies. If a firefight ensues, the bots will start swarming towards noise like zombies.
The best characters to farm bots are those that can do a lot of damage without taking any themselves. Since bots will run in a straight line towards you, assault rifles and snipers excel at bot farming.

As teammates

It sucks to get bots as teammates, but if you understand their behavior you can take advantage of it to try and win the round.

Drones

Zenith gets increasingly valuable in 7k+ games as you never have time to revive and/or enemies will camp dead bodies. Zenith's ability to revive through walls can also be exploited.

In game tactics

This is already a long post, so I'll brain dump common improvements / mistakes that I come across. Feel free to ask questions in the comments.

tldr

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Bullet Echo, bots and all.

Today, making your website or online shop show up first in search results is key. This means you need good SEO, a way to make sure people find you online. Now, there's a new helper: AI.
Think of it as smart machines that learn and think almost like we do. They're changing how we make our websites better for ranking high in searches.

Enhancing User Engagement Through AI Insights
To boost user engagement, AI gives insights into what people seek. It spots trends in searches like "best running shoes," hinting at a desire for product tips.
Moreover, AI swiftly sifts through data on popular topics from user behavior analysis. This leads to crafting content that hits home with readers more effectively. AI-driven personalization serves up suggestions based on one’s past choices or profile details. For instance, showing similar products a shopper liked before or news pieces fitting individual tastes, lifting engagement levels noticeably.
Predicting what users might want next. Be it shows to watch or items to buy. It enriches experiences on platforms ranging from ecommerce sites to streaming services. Virtual assistants powered by AI streamline tasks like booking trips or answering questions, further heightening satisfaction through relevance.
In essence, leveraging AI for personalized encounters not only spikes interest but invites visitors to stay longer and interact more deeply with websites, which circles back positively on search rankings, too.

Crafting Relevant Content with AI Tools
AI tools are a must to craft relevant content. They offer quick research and provide fresh ideas when you're stuck. For example, they can pull up facts or trends in seconds. Work that used to take hours by hand.
Think of using Writesonic for marketer-friendly copy or Jasper to boost SEO results with engaging articles. A tool like Grammarly polishes your writing fast, making it crisp and clear without effort from you. This is key because great blog posts need both strong information and easy readability to reach more people online.
Choosing the right AI helper means matching one's features with your specific needs as a writer or marketer.

AI and Keyword Optimization Strategies
In your journey to master SEO, AI is a game-changer. It moves past traditional methods by learning from data and user actions. This means it can spot trends and optimize smarter for better search rankings.
For keyword research, the impact is huge. Use AI tools to find strong keywords based on real-time data like search volume and competition levels. These insights are key in choosing keywords that will drive more targeted traffic to your site.
Embrace these advancements. Let AI do the heavy lifting in analyzing data so you can focus on creating content that hits the mark every time.

Improving Readability with AI Assistance
To boost your article's readability, consider its current structure. If it features long paragraphs and lacks visual breaks or proper headers, you're missing out on engagement opportunities. Analyze the top 10 competitors' articles for quality comparison.
Aim to surpass them in insights offered and user-friendliness. Introduce well-structured sections, optimize images, enhance calls-to-action, and adjust header formats for better scannability. Tools like Frase offer comprehensive help by analyzing competition and structuring content effectively.
While AI aids in drafting and refining content, identifying keywords, and crafting meta descriptions, it doesn't fully replace human creativity.

Measuring the Success of AI-Optimized Content
To gauge the success of AI-optimized content, focus on its impact on SEO and user engagement. Check if your main keyword ranks higher in search engine results after optimization. Monitor traffic to see if more users visit your site.
Also, track backlinks; a rise indicates growing authority and credibility online. Use analytics to measure visitor actions. Are they staying longer and visiting more pages? This shows increased interest due to relevant, high-quality content tailored by AI tools for your audience's needs.

Future Trends in AI for SEO
In the world of SEO, generative AI is reshaping how content appears in search results. This technology crafts new pieces from what it has learned. Quality reigns supreme; Google values original work reflecting real expertise or unique experiences.
For you, this means diving deep into topics and speaking with experts more often. Their insights enrich your material, aligning with future expectations for high-ranking pages. To stand out, demonstrate authority clearly within your articles.
Adding a bio section showcasing the author's qualifications can significantly impact perceptions of credibility and authenticity, a straightforward yet effective strategy to indicate quality following E-E-A-T principles. Perform an audit with tools like Semrush to assess your site health and core web vitals. These metrics indicate your readiness for SEO trends driven by advanced AI technologies.

Understanding AI in SEO Content Creation
In today's SEO, understanding AI’s role is key. Let me explain precisely. Think about content creation. AI tools help you find topics people care about. They analyze vast data sets quickly, something a human can't do as fast or accurately. This means your articles meet real user needs better.
These tools predict trends before they become big news. By tapping into this early knowledge, you position your website as a leader in its niche.
Using AI to optimize content for better ranking and relevance proves to be key. This tool helps you analyze vast data quickly, spotting trends you might miss. It suggests keywords that make your work more visible online.
But remember, the heart of your writing should still speak to people, not just algorithms.

2024.05.11 05:29 ElevenCookiesInAVCR G Hub Startup Impact Preventing computer from booting?

I've got a bit of a lengthy question so apologies for that in advance; I appreciate anybody who has insight about this.
I have a brand new Cyberpower PC running Windows 11 (specs here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gamer-supreme-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-9-7900x-64gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-super-12gb-2tb-ssd-white/6573343.p?skuId=6573343&ref=NS&loc=101). It was running great when I first got it. Then, I got all of my Logitech G gear. G203 mouse, G815 keyboard, G735 headset. I had so, so many headaches with G Hub that lasted for weeks. The headset couldn't be discovered by my PC, and somebody with LG support uninstalled and reinstalled a Bluetooth driver. G Hub updated, and all of the lights on all of my devices started strobing like crazy, no matter what the RGB light settings were in G Hub. Fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling finally after a lot of other troubleshooting. I say all of this just to explain that until G Hub, I had no issues with this computer. It has Steam and Spotify on it, and that's it. I haven't installed any strange software at all.
I had the computer for a few weeks, then on 4/29, when I hit the power button, the computer light would turn on, but it would never boot up, even after 5, 10 minutes went by. Lights never turned on for my monitors or keyboard/mouse. The only way to get around this was to hold down the power button and then press it again, then the computer would boot is "safe mood" which apparently is with minimal drivers and startup apps, then it would finally start up.
I have been communicating with Windows Support and Cyberpower Support about this for weeks, with no fix so far. I know nothing about computers, but I figured that since booting in "safe mode" is a work-around, it's got to be a software issue. If it was hardware, I felt like I would still have the same issue even in safe mode, since all that safe mode changes is software things.
I have tried so, so many things to fix this. I removed unnecessary applications. I disabled many startup applications, I went into command prompt and did sfc / scannow and there were no issues. I ran "mdsched" "windows memory diagnostic" check of my RAM and it found no issues. I reinstalled Windows 11. I restored my system configuration to a date before the issue. I had already had fast startup enabled. None of these things fixed the issue.
I also went into my BIOS, DDR memory features, and changed the memory context restore setting from Auto to Enabled. This made things WAY worse. I got blue screen error after blue screen error (that Windows couldn't start up) until I went back into BIOS and changed the setting back.
So, I'm back to looking at my startup drivers and applications. In Task Manager, the only things that open on startup are Java Update Scheduler (says it has medium startup impact), Radeon software startup task, Realtek Audio startup task, security health systems tray, and LG system tray, which includes G Hub, LGHub agent, and logi crashpad handler. LG system tray is the only one that says it has high startup impact of those.
So with that context (may be more context than needed), my question is, could it be the LG startup tasks that are causing my issue? Again, I'm not having boot up delays. The computer doesn't boot at all, unless it is in safe mode. Obviously I can push the power button three times to go into safe mode each time I turn on the computer to get it to work. But it's irritating because it shouldn't have to work that way. Again I know nothing about computers, and it seems like it would be weird for just G Hub to make my computer unable to boot. But without a better explanation after trying all of these things, and given that I never had any issues until I got my Logitech devices, I'm wondering if that's what's happening.
I mainly just want to know if that even makes sense as an explanation. It's annoying not to have the lghub system tray as a startup task because if I don't, my keyboard and mouse do not turn on with the RGB light settings that I customized, they just turn on to the default rainbow. I would have to manually open G Hub every time after my computer started up to get G Hub to communicate the RGB settings to the devices. Which, I guess I can do if that's the only work around. I'm just at a loss, because I thought Logitech was supposed to be a reputable company with fairly accessible products for people like myself who are sort of casual gamers and not familiar with nor needing all the high-end tech stuff for my setup. But these products have done nothing but glitch since I got them a few weeks ago. That's why I'm wondering if their software is also the cause of this issue. It seems like that in isolation shouldn't be enough to confuse the whole startup task list and prevent a boot up altogether but maybe something small can mess up the whole thing. Any insight is appreciated. If it could be this at this point I'd consider just returning it all and going with another brand rather than have to worry that every few days I'm going to have another Logitech related issue to troubleshoot for as long as I have the products. Especially if it goes so far as to stop my computer from booting.
Anyways, sorry again for the long post. Thanks in advance for the tips.

Destined Rise Timeline Richard M. Nixon Presidency (Jan 1961-Nov 1962). Second Elected Term (Part 1).
(Sorry that it's been so long since the last post. I've just been busy with school, so I haven't had the opportunity to continue the timeline until now.)
President Richard M. Nixon (1955-)
Administration:
Vice President: John J. Williams (1957-)
Secretary of State: Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. (1959-)
Secretary of the Treasury: Prescott S. Bush (1957-)
Secretary of Defense: Robert B. Anderson (1957-)
Attorney General: William P. Rodgers (1959-)
Postmaster General: Arthur E. Summerfield (1955-)
Secretary of the Interior: Frederick A. Seaton (1961-)
Secretary of Agriculture: Earl L. Butz (1957-)
Secretary of Commerce: Frederick H. Mueller (1961-)
Secretary of Labor: James P. Mitchell (1955-)
Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare: Arthur S. Flemming (1958-)
National Security Advisor: Harold E. Stassen (1957-)
Ambassador to the United Nations: James J. Wadsworth (1959-)
Chief of Staff: H.R. Haldeman (1957-)
Nixon had no intention of replacing anyone in the administration, but with Secretary Mckay and Secretary Weeks both deciding to retire, he needed to replace them.
Replacing Secretary McKay would be former Senator Fred A. Seaton of Minnesota. Seaton had worked in various positions in the Eisenhower administration, and had been carried over to the Nixon administration when he took over. Believing him to be capable and as a sort of reward for his service, Nixon decided to make him his new Secretary of the Interior. However, his selection has irked some conservatives considering his liberal leanings.
Nixon’s replacement for Weeks would end up being his deputy, 67 year-old Frederick H. Mueller of Michigan. After years of being the president of his family’s business, Mueller would become Deputy Secretary of Commerce back in 1958 and now with Secretary Weeks retiring, it was only right for Mueller to take up the position.

Foreign Policy:

Cuba: Despite their fierce fighting, especially after Che Guevara’s death back in 1959, it was only a matter of time before the rebels would fall to the U.S. backed Cuban government. They finally fell in February of 1961. After years of back and forth fighting, Batista’s forces had finally been able to deal a decisive blow to the rebels in the Sierra Maestra mountain range. The costly onslaught killed a substantial number of “communist” rebels and scattered whoever was left. Surviving rebel leaders, such as Fidel Castro and his brother, fled to other Latin American countries.
President Richard M. Nixon and Dictator Fulgencio Batista (1901-1962)
This was welcome news for the thoroughly exhausted Nixon, but he now had other issues to deal with. First and foremost concerning a certain Fulgencio Batista. Nixon had at one point supported the dictator, however, after seeing his incompetence and unpopularity first hand, it was clear he needed to go. Nixon knew Batista wouldn’t let go of power willingly, so he likely had to use other methods to get him out of power. About one month after the rebels had been effectively crushed, Batista would be found dead under mysterious circumstances. President Nixon would soon after issue a statement “mourning” the Cuban leader, and his administration would officially pin the blame on the Cuban mafia. After Batista’s death, Nixon quickly dispatched the primed military to Cuba to take control of the situation and begin peacekeeping. Nixon would then go on to appoint Carlos M. Sterling as the country’s new de facto president, and allowed the country to hold presidential elections in November of 1962.
U.S. vessel in Cuba
However, despite initially just being sent for peacekeeping, Nixon would keep the U.S. military on the island nation indefinitely. Effectively putting the country under the thumb of the United States and undermining the power of President Sterling. Nixon justified his decision by reasoning that the country was still unstable and under the threat of Communism, but that’s little consolation for the other Latin American nations who’ve made their displeasure known.
Latin America: Knowing very well that the other Latin American countries weren’t happy with his occupation of Cuba, Nixon began working toward appeasing them. In April of 1961, he officially introduced his Alliance for Prosperity plan to Congress. It was a multi-year plan that aimed to provide the Latin American countries with a vast amount of economic aid to improve their situations. Nixon's ultimate end goal for the plan was to hopefully turn the Latin American countries away from communism and to make them reliant on the U.S. for aid.
In that same April, the Republican controlled Congress reluctantly agreed to grant Nixon’s plan with just barely one billion dollars. Soon after money began quickly flowing into Latin America, contributing to the construction of infrastructure and general improvements to the quality of life in the region. However, looking just a bit closer, the plan wasn't as impactful as some had hoped it would be, but either way, it still somewhat contributed to Nixon’s end goals.
Southeast Asia: Entering his second term in office, Nixon continued preventing the spread of Communism in the region, but with his recent success in Cuba, he noticeably upped the ante.
Starting in Laos, the “cork of the bottle” as Eisenhower had called it. Although an agreement had been made to respect Laotian neutrality in mid 1962, it had been quickly disregarded by the United States and the Communist nations. The North Vietnamese continued making incursions into Laos, the Soviets and Chinese continued supporting the Pathet Lao, and the United States continued supporting the Royal Lao Government.
President Nixon announcing the deployment of U.S. troops in Laos and South Vietnam
However, Nixon wasn’t convinced that the country was doing enough to prevent Laos from falling. Just a few weeks after the “agreement,” Nixon would take aggressive measures. With the support of the Joint Chiefs and most of his administration, he would convince Congress to send 5,000 standing soldiers to Laos. It was a highly controversial and very provoking decision, but Nixon defended his decision by saying they were only there to deter Communist incursions.
Transitioning over to South Vietnam, the Diem government had continued struggling against northern incursion into the south. Again with the support of the Joint Chiefs and his administration, he would use that as a justification and ask Congress to send more military equipment and advisors to the south. However, he would also ask Congress to approve sending 10,000 standing soldiers to the south to deter the north. Despite their reluctance, Congress would eventually agree and 10,000 soldiers would be sent to the south.
As expected, the Communists didn’t take kindly to the U.S. deploying troops to Laos and South Vietnam, it raised the already high tensions between them. However, at least thus far, the troop placements have been successful at deterring incursions into Laos and South Vietnam and Nixon has dubbed his troop placements as a success.
East Asia: Although Nixon successfully made diplomatic progress with the Soviets, the situation with China has only gotten more and more volatile as the years go by. Entering his second term, Nixon has put more scrutiny on the nation as they become more and more of a threat, however, not all is bad. In recent years, the relationship between the Soviets and Chinese have only gotten worse, whether their relationship will deteriorate completely remains to be seen.
Middle East: Barring the Kuwait Crisis, which was mostly resolved by the British, the Middle East wasn’t nearly as hectic as it was during the 50’s. As he’s done since he entered office in 1955, Nixon continued attempting to strengthen the Baghdad Pact with varied success. Regarding Israel, Nixon expectedly continued supplying our ally with military supplies, including some state of the art antiaircraft missiles.
Soviet Union: Despite signing the groundbreaking partial nuclear test-ban treaty with the Soviets at the tail end of his first elected term, things are still not completely stable with the Soviets. A crisis in Berlin, supposedly funding the Cuban rebels, among various other things have contributed toward tensions remaining high.

Domestic Policy:

Economy: Despite going through multiple recessions in the previous decade, entering the 1960s, it seemed like the economy was on the up. Back in 1957, Nixon had successfully passed the Revenue Act of 1957. The act had decreased taxes for middle and lower class earners, while increasing taxes on high earners.
However, quite a few of his fellow Republican allies believed that there should be a tax cut across the board, believing that it would help stimulate the economy. Just a few months after being inaugurated, in the summer of 1961, the Republican controlled house would introduce the Revenue Act of 1961. The act would cut taxes across the board by 20 percent. However, with middle and lower class earners having had their taxes cut four years earlier, this would mostly affect the country’s highest earners. Someone with a tax rate of 91 percent would have their rates reduced to 71 percent under the act.
Although the Democrats voiced their dislike of the act, with Republican majorities in both chambers of Congress, the act would easily get through. It would be subsequently signed by President Nixon, who himself was mostly indifferent to the act. In the months following the acts passing, the economy would continue to grow steadily.
The Department of Justice: Just after being inaugurated to his second elected term as president, Nixon had a private meeting with Attorney General and confidant William P. Rodgers. Details about the meeting between the two men are still mostly unknown, but one thing is for certain, Orval Faubus’s days were numbered.
In November of 1961, the Justice Department would formally and publicly announce that widespread voter fraud had been committed throughout the southern states during the 1960 election. Among those accused of committing or aiding in fraud was Governor Orval Faubus himself, and all hell broke loose in the south.
President Nixon addressing the country
Following the announcement by the Department of Justice (DoJ), millions of Southerners nationwide took to violent protests and riots against the federal government, unfortunately ensnaring African-Americans in the chaos. Politicians across the South denounced the situation as an outrage, branding both the federal government and President Nixon as tyrannical. Some politicians increased tensions by escalating racial rhetoric, while others attempted to impeach Nixon, albeit unsuccessfully in Congress. Governor Faubus, among others, vehemently denied any election misconduct, echoing the widespread sentiment of outrage. To quell some especially violent protests and as a warning to all the southern governors, President Nixon would mobilize the National Guard to keep the peace. However, this response was met by more violence by southern civilians.
Governor Orval Faubus on trial
The federal trial itself would finally begin the next year in February of 1962. Although some thought it would become a long and arduous affair, it would be quite swift. With ten hard months worth of evidence obtained, through various methods, it wasn’t difficult for the DoJ to prove that fraud had indeed been committed in the southern states during the 1960 election. Many conspirators would be sentenced with various different sentences, ranging from high fines to serious imprisonment. For his part, Governor Faubus was sentenced to ten years in federal prison and he was promptly removed from the governor’s office.
While all this was going on, Vice President Williams was doing all he could to keep some of the more conservative members of the Republican party around. Although “most” Republicans generally agreed with the DoJ’s actions given the evidence, some saw this as severe government overreach.
The “True President”: Since the 1960 election results came back in, Nixon has had to deal with the blowback from winning the election via the 2nd ever deadlock in American history.
Kennedy supporters across the nation have dubbed the Massachusetts Senator as the “true president,” while calling Nixon undeserving of the high office. For his part, Nixon traveled to Democratic strongholds in the east coast in an attempt to keep the peace and quell the protests against his second term. However, they weren’t particularly effective.
The protests weren’t good for Nixon as was, but when the DoJ announced that election fraud had in fact been committed en masse throughout the south, Kennedy supporters were furious and even more galvanized against Nixon. Nixon had anticipated that this would happen, and he had prepared to barnstorm the east coast and some other Democratic strongholds to try and quell their anger. However, like before, the attempt proved ineffective.
The situation started to improve only after John F. Kennedy intervened to help President Nixon appease his supporters' anger. Despite Kennedy riding off the anger of his supporters, he had shared a friendship with Nixon. Recognizing the urgent need for national unity in such turbulent times, Kennedy joined Nixon in efforts to pacify his enraged supporters by accompanying him on travels.
The young Senator’s charisma, zeal, and humility was infectious. During one visit in New York State, he made his now famous "Forward" speech.
Senator Kennedy delivering his \"Forward Speech\"
“My fellow Americans. Tonight, I speak to you not only as your elected leader but as a fellow citizen of this great nation, a nation that stands at a crossroads of history, where the winds of change blow strong and the currents of uncertainty swirl. The recent election, yes, it was marred with fraud. However, the past is but a prologue to the future.
In times such as these, it is easy to look back, to dwell on the injustices, the grievances, the wrongs that have been done. But my friends, we cannot change what has already come to pass. We cannot turn back the hands of time, nor can we rewrite the chapters of history.
Instead, we must look forward. We must cast our gaze towards the horizon of tomorrow, towards the promise of a brighter future that lies ahead. For it is in our collective will, our shared determination, that we shall find the strength to overcome any obstacle, to weather any storm.
Let us not be defined by the trials of the past, but rather by our resilience in the face of adversity. Let us not be consumed by bitterness and division, but rather united in our pursuit of a common purpose, a common destiny.
For as long as this great nation has stood, it has been the beacon of hope and the bastion of freedom. And so it shall remain, so long as we have the courage to stand firm in our convictions, to uphold the principles upon which it was founded. My fellow Americans, the road ahead may be long and arduous, but I have faith in the indomitable spirit of the American people.
Together, we shall chart a course towards a brighter tomorrow, a tomorrow where justice prevails, where truth triumphs, and where the flame of liberty burns ever bright. So let us rise to the challenge before us. Let us seize the opportunities that lie ahead. And let us march forward, hand in hand, towards a future that is worthy of the sacrifices of those who have come before us. Thank you, and God bless America.”
President Nixon and Senator Kennedy
His speech reverberated throughout the nation, capturing headlines and effectively soothing his supporters, who settled down after his remarkable speech. Its impact even extended beyond his immediate base, swaying even some southerners to the Senator's perspective. For Nixon, the speech brought a semblance of relief, while for Senator Kennedy, it launched him deeper into the realms of stardom and political legend.
Infrastructure: Since the inception of Nixon’s “Rejuvenate America” plan in 1959, significant financial resources had been allocated to all 50 states, aimed at bolstering infrastructure and enhancing the overall quality of life nationwide. Despite opposition from Democrats, Nixon's initiative garnered widespread public support as citizens welcomed the prospect of tangible improvements within their communities.
However, during the seemingly optimistic landscape, clouds of controversy loomed. The unrestricted nature of the plan, essentially a financial carte blanche extended to every state, invited strong scrutiny. By late 1961, Democrats raised allegations of misuse, claiming that funds from the “Rejuvenate America” plan found their way into the pockets of politicians, predominantly Republicans.
Although Nixon vehemently refuted these accusations, the summer of 1962 brought forth damning evidence suggesting otherwise. Some Republican officials were indeed found to have misappropriated funds intended for public benefit. However, the Democrats' fervent accusations weren’t without irony, as instances of Democrats similarly engaging in misconduct would also be unveiled. Nonetheless, the spotlight remained fixed on Republican transgressions as Democrats pursued their allegations.
In response, President Nixon would formally apologize, but he would mostly pin the blame on the stateside politicians. Saying they should have looked after the funds more adequately. However, he would also say he’d begin tracking the funds with federal oversight. He would then introduce the Oversight Act of 1962 in August, the act would track where the funds from the “Rejuvenate America” plan were going. Despite opposition from some of the more conservative members of the party, the bill would get through Congress with bipartisan support.
Social Programs: As welfare emerged as an increasingly significant concern in the new decade, Nixon recognized the necessity of taking action to prevent the Democrats from dominating the conversation. In the spring of 1962, he introduced his 'Family Assistance Plan' (FAP) to Congress as a strategic response. In short, the plan would provide struggling families with a guaranteed annual income from the federal government, approximately $1200 annually.
However, Nixon's plan faced opposition not only from Democrats who didn’t believe it went far enough, but also from his fellow Republicans. Particularly among conservatives, there were strong objections to the bill due to concerns raised about its potential strain on the treasury and the perceived risk of discouraging work incentives. Ultimately, despite Nixon's efforts, the plan failed to advance through Congress and was never enacted into law.
NASA: Since the Vanguard disaster, Nixon had kept a close eye on the agency. To quell American fears and to restore confidence in the agency, he ambitiously announced that the country would land on the moon by the end of the decade. Although they had been making good progress since the embarrassment, he wanted them to progress faster to meet his self-imposed deadline. In November of 1962, we would successfully increase funding toward the agency to increase their progress.

Supreme Court Admissions: With Justice Felix Frankfurter's retirement from the court due to health reasons in August of 1962, Nixon faced the imperative of appointing another justice to the country’s highest court. Eventually, he nominated William H. Hastie Jr. to the Supreme Court, marking the first time a black American had been nominated for such a position. Despite Chief Justice Warren's initial opposition to Hastie's nomination, Nixon dispatched Justice Brownell and Attorney General Rodgers to persuade the respected judge. Ultimately, Warren begrudgingly accepted Hastie into the fold.
However, Nixon also needed to persuade Hastie to accept the nomination. While Hastie harbored reservations toward Justice Warren, President Nixon, Attorney General Rodgers, and other prominent figures managed to sway him to accept the nomination after concerted efforts.
When his nomination reached Congress, it faced opposition from southern Democrats and some particularly conservative Republicans. Nonetheless, it encountered relatively smooth confirmation proceedings thanks to the support of moderates and liberals from both parties. Thus, the nation welcomed its first-ever black Supreme Court Justice. While Black Americans celebrated his appointment, southerners, still grappling with the Department of Justice’s actions, vehemently opposed him.
Current Supreme Court (As of August, 1962):
-Chief Justice Earl Warren
-Associate Justice Herbert Brownell Jr.
-Associate Justice William O. Douglas
-Associate Justice Hugo L. Black
-Associate Justice Tom C. Clark
-Associate Justice John Marshall Harlan II
-Associate Justice Potter Stewart
-Associate Justice William J. Brennan Jr.
-Associate Justice William H. Hastie Jr.

2024.05.09 16:48 dokkanisfun Dokkan gauntlet

Dokkan gauntlet
This is the list of the order of events I use to run the dokkan gauntlet. This isn't an order of "difficulty" this is ordered 80% based of stats. I dont factor in if the enemy can be atk lowered, sealed, or stunned because with the way my teams get built some teams just don't have those abilities. I do take in factor if the enemy can lock rotations, seal/stun. I've ran 100's of teams through this list and it's ordered just about as good as I can get it.
So basically what my goal is is to use different characters as leaders. As an added twist to spice up the team builds, I restrict the characters I can use by picking 2 categories that the character belongs to (usually the leader skill category and one random one so if I used teq ultimate gohan i would use saviors and hybrid sayians) and I also do a run where I pick from a pool of characters at random that fit uder their leader skill. its very fun and makes me use tons of characters in multiple situations.
