Smiling Critter Oc concept- Melody Magpie
Little more info, after Catnap's discontinuation, Melody Magpie would be a stand in- a smiling critter with a music box instead of the scents.
Experiment wise, she was rushed, hence the offset anatomy and weird stitching. Her creation was almost complete when the hour of Joy happened- so shes very much a butchered experiment. She probably would've been discarded anyway, being so wrongly made.
And over time, her hand rotted off with her makeshift bones being exposed and controlled by the remaining skin attached 😊

2024.05.21 22:28 think4ever Mosaic Trisomy 13

A couple of months back we received an abnormal NIPT result for high mosaic Trisomy 13 with 16% PPV. Did NT scan at 12 weeks which was measured at 1.6 but they did not find a nasal bone. The MFM doctor was not that concerned as she mentioned some Asians have this and we are Asian.
We declined CVS and decided for amnio and early anatomy scan at 16 weeks. Anatomy scan revealed no other markers except the absent nasal bone. FISH came back two days later and was negative. Two weeks later microarray came back normal. Another anatomy scan at 19 weeks also looks good. We are due in October and hope for a good outcome.
I just shared this because this site has been so helpful especially knowing that there were several false positives. I wish none of us have to go through this but very thankful for the science, doctors and also to everyone who have contributed here. Wish you all the best!

So I have less then 90° of hip flexion rom before the socket and femur make bone on bone contact and I was wondering if I'm better off just ditching heavy squats cause even with heel elevation and an up right squat I'm not breaking 90° with my hip anatomy. thoughts

2024.05.21 18:15 harinedzumi_art Solar Cult in the Nha-Dai Kingdom.

Solar Cult in the Nha-Dai Kingdom.
Solar Cult in the Nha-Dai Kingdom.
"...With every breath, the air Spirits enter my lungs. With every step I take, the Spirits of paws communicate with the spirits of earth and water. Wherever I look, the Spirits of eyes see it too. When I die, the Spirits will leave the rotten meat and dirty bones. And then they will gather again, and the new me will be born. Don't worry about the dead, don't worry about the living! We are all just a temporary shell, nothing more! Penetrate into the Teaching and you will see the World beyond the shell..."
© Linh Ai-Ca, Priestess who Achieved Full Understanding. An excerpt from Her teachings for those entering the Circle.
Solar Cult has no analogues in the Small World. Like most of the religious, it's based on the ancient Teaching of the One Way created by the legendary White Hare Prophet. However, by completely changing the form and narrative, the Solar Cult kept all the ideas of the Prophet unchanged. Based on the antiquity of the Cult and the exorbitant complexity of its philosophy, many scientists of the Small World believe that the first priestesses were not followers, but associates of the White Hare. Therefore, modern followers of the White Hare's Teaching consider Solar Cult to be a part of the One Way.
Solar Cult denies the existence of a God or other higher power capable of creating or influencing the World. It is believed that the World creates itself, and Spirits serve as the material for this. Since Spirits are not able to live in the World without having a form, they fill any form with themselves, and so life appears. Absolutely everything Alive, from stone [yes, according to the Cult, even stones are Alive] and up to sovereigns are essentially Spirits. Bodies are only a form, and are not capable of living by themselves.
From this comes the most important statement of the Solar Cult. Awareness of one's own individual life is an illusion that hides the Truth. There is no real life and death. There is no real mind. And there is no real reasons to follow this illusions.
Therefore, intentions and actions [exactly in this sequence] become the only important factors of the World's existence. Intentions unite Spirits, and actions strengthen this connection, and after the physical death of the shell, the same Spirits inhabit another. Any intentions and actions are preserved and developed. The Spirits of murderers inhabit new shells and give life to new murderers. The Spirits of healers give life to new healers. Etc.
The main goal of the Solar Cult is to help all living beings realize their own essence and see the real World. This can be done only by avoiding any manifestations of selfishness [imposed by an illusory self] and doing good deeds without the intention of getting benefits for yourself. It is believed that any living being is able to achieve this without Solar Cult, so the Cult helps and teaches only those who have asked for it themselves. Yes, the Solar Sun is the most peaceful religion of the Small World. At the same time, Solar Cult accepts disciples of any nation, even without paying attention to their past. In addition, the Cult recognizes some other religions and teachings true. Therefore, for example, the Solar Cult is widespread among the Free Newts of the Swampland, who profess this along with the traditional Teaching of Heaven. More than a half gang leaders [and pretty same numbers for gang members] are desciples of the Teaching of Ten Thousand Solar Spirits and have their own priestess-teachers [in fact everyone can become a priestesses, even males, priestess is just a name, it has no gender] And rats, cats and gerbils, following the Teachings of the One Way, regularly make pilgrimages to Nha-Dai in order to listen to the Teachings of the priestesses.
It was the Solar Cult that made the black-eyed foxes a unique nation. The intention to understand the real nature of the World, backed up by natural curiosity, made them open minded, friendly and supportive. In fact, the Nha-Dai Kingdom has been supplying everyone with the most valuable goods for hundreds of years with minimal benefit for itself. That is why so many volunteers came to help the black-eyed foxes in their fight against the Iron Caliphate.
Alas, the centuries-long war has also affected the Cult. Since Mo'Gu aggressively impose the Cult of the Dead God and exterminate priestesses and disciples, they are recognized as enemies of the World. Therefore, the intention to fight and kill them is considered good. It is believed that the Spirits of warriors who died in this struggle give birth to warriors again. And after the final victory over Mo'Gu, these warriors will be reborn again and become priestesses. However, many priestesses [including the whole Circle of Priestesses] are already fighting against Mo'Gu. In fact, militarization has long been an integral part of the Cult. In all modern Solar Monasteries, cubs are taught the anatomy of lizards and trained to kill them effectively. Foreign military instructors [usually newts and rats from among the desciples] live in the same Monasteries, teaching future soldiers fighting techniques and tactics. But it is important to note that now all this is aimed at only one goal: the victory over Mo'Gu and the liberation of the Nha-Dai Kingdom from religious persecution. I want to believe that this will not change.

2024.05.21 17:31 Octo13_Meg No significant symptoms??

Brief history. A year ago I had a staph infection in my sinuses. CT scan confirmed all sinus cavities were full, everything was swollen, I was a hot mess. Suffering from daily headaches, stuffy nose, etc. Prescribed strong antibiotics and it cleared. She had suggested surgery because of the anatomy of my sinuses but I didn’t do it at the time. I rarely have sinus issues so I didn’t think it was necessary.
Since that time I’ve had zero headaches, no sinus pressure, can breathe 💯 though my nose. Only issue is sometimes I can “smell” my sinuses if that makes sense. Also have some post nasal drip but not significant.
Went to the ENT a few weeks ago because I suspected a CSF leak (clear fluid leaking from one side of my nose when I bent over, no other symptoms). She ordered another CT scan and this time my Maxillary sinuses (both) are 💯 obstructed. I suspect they’ve been that way for a while, even though I don’t have any traditional symptoms.
Doctor is again suggesting surgery to correct a deviated septum with bone spur, and open up my sinuses so they can drain. I’m hesitant to move forward with surgery since I don’t really have a quality of life issue associated with the filled sinuses.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Would you move forward with the surgery despite not really having issues?

2024.05.21 15:02 Yphi-Zirconium Realism of the Rotten Vale : Can Big Snek make Laif ?

Check here for all images : https://imgur.com/a/m0JiXr8
[This is part of a larger video project on the geological past of Monster Hunter World]
Hello everyone from whichever subreddit I might post this in. I was working on a future video project for Monster Hunter World, and wanted to post some of my findings here, because, hey, it’s actually pretty interesting imo.
Those findings are specifically about the Coral Highlands and the Rotten Vale and whether the death of a giant fucking Dalamadur could trigger the flourishing of an ecosystem like the Coral Highlands
So, without further ado, let’s start !
My objective was to calculate the mass of the giant dalamadur in the Rotten Vale, figure out what’s the average decomposition speed of most animals, and then just multiply both to figure out how long it would’ve taken for the Rotten Vale’s Dalamadur to decompose.
From there on you try to figure out 2 things :
Anyways, the Himalayas, which was the result of very fast colliding plates, creating one of the highest peaking mountain ranges, was formed at around 65-55 Million years ago, when the Indian and Eurasian plates collided. In conclusion, if we assume that the plates which created the mountain range in the area might be slower ( or faster, we never know ), the Rotten Vale’s Dalamadur must be at least as old as the geological formations themselves, in other words around 100+ Million Years Old
With that out of the way, I took in the length and weight of the Dalamadur we find in MH4U ( shout-out to u/BloodbathFatalis for figuring it out, links to his post here : https://www.reddit.com/MonsterHuntecomments/1558043/dalamudar_weight_calculation40000_tons_roughly/ ), and apply it to Vale Dalamadur, which I will refer to in this post as “Ancient Dalamadur” from now on
Ill link my spreadsheet later this day, but basically I got a mass of about 342 Million Metric Ton ( fig.1 : https://imgur.com/a/8euzNul ), which is fucking insane. I don’t have anything to compare it immediately but it’s just, unimaginably heavy.
Next, Decomposition
When I was researching this subject, I discovered Whale Falls, which are basically the formation of little ecosystem around a whale carcass, which is EXACTLY what I needed. Whale Falls happen in 3 stages, the first one being the decomposition of soft tissue, the second being the colonization of the bones by different animals, and the third stage is the decomposition of the bones themselves. The Fourth Stage, dubbed “Reef Stage” on Wikipedia, is when all that’s left are minerals : in other words, all organic matter has been consumed. Now, of course, comparing a snake to a whale leads to some issues, and it might not give us an exact value, especially since the chemical composition of whale and snake bones are completely different, but at least this might give us an approximate value. If anyone know the percentage of lipids in snake bones though, I’m down to calculate using that.
Anyways, after applying the values given by *Wikipedia* for the Whale Fall of a grey Whale, we can figure out how long it takes for a Dalamadur, and by extension, an Ancient Dalamadur, to decompose ( fig. 2 : https://imgur.com/a/Bjl3gEE ).
This gives us a total time until Reef Stage of about 885 MILLIONS YEARS.
THAT’S A LONG-ASS TIME
For comparison, On Earth, 885 Millions years ago, Life was literally but a few multicellular organisms that could photosynthesize. Trees, insects, animals, none of them existed yet.
So yeah, having a giant fucking Dalamadur stuck there is plausible, somehow, since by then mountain collision could’ve happened and even after erosion and rifting, the bones would still be there.
Considering also that 50 Millions years of those is just decomposing the Giant Dalamadur until the skeleton is fully colonized, yeah no, this actually makes more sense than we give it credit for
Also, thanks to more *Wikipedia* sources, we have the added knowledge that a grey whale whale fall releases would’ve released around 17 Million Tons of Carbon.
For comparison, most natural oils and fossil fuels are about 85% Carbon, so if all the Organic Matter of these Giant Dalamadurs were trapped, only one of them could amount to 14.2 Million Tons of petroleum, for example. Since 1kg of Petroleum of Petroleum is about 1.27 Liters ( 1L=>0.79kg), 1 ton of Petroleum is 1270 Liters, this gives us about 1.80E10 L of petroleum, or, in other words, 18 Billion Liters, which is about 112,500,000Barrels. For comparison, we as humans use 97,103,871 Barrels per day, so one Ancient Dalamadur has enough organic matter to to fuel the needs for oil for ALL OF HUMANITY for an ENTIRE DAY.
This made me realize two things :
Fun fact though, while Ancient Dalamadur is, fucking massive, compared to other snake physiology and anatomy
. He’s not the bulkiest (fig.3 https://imgur.com/a/TvFzKok ). If Dalamadurs had the metabolism of a Gaboon Viper or an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, they’d be MUCH bulkier and would then take even LONGER to decompose and would have EVEN MORE organic matter
This is fucking insane
But anyways, Conclusion :
Considering that the Rotten Vale contains more than just one Ancient Dalamadur ( https://www.reddit.com/MonsterHuntecomments/88r7az/dalamadur_and_the_rotten_vale_possibility_of_9/ ), and I only used the measurement approximation of the Largest Ancient Dalamadur, aka, the one with the Giant Skull on the Surface level of the Vale, and that Vaal Hazak’s control over the area is now forcing all elder dragons migrating to the New World to die there, with part of their energy going too the Elder’s Recess :
Yeah, it’s more plausible than I thought, I have to say.
That’s all I have for today, I’ll probably make another post here about the Guiding Lands or maybe even the Everstream someday. Thanks for reading this, if I missed anything or want me to give you some more info on the subject, or even give me some propositions or future video ideas, make sure to comment and also upvote so that more people can see this and I didn’t just spent two days doing research for nothing. See ya !
NB : So I had to rewrite this paragraph due to a fuck up, and also I discovered this after writing all this down, but basically the length of the Ancient Dalamadur might not be accurate, as I've seen posts either saying he's 1-3km long and others saying he's 5-10km long, but, long story short, after doing some calculations, the Ancient Dalamadur's corpse status is realistic if, at minimum, he's about 4-5km long. If anyone could measure the size of the giant dalamadur skull on the surface of the Rotten Vale and the size of a dalamadur head in 4U, we could estimate the length of the Larger Ancient Dalamadur, and, even if it is, like, 1-2km long there are still enough Dalamadur Corpses ( at least 8-9 ) to release enough organic matter to create the coral highlands, I think. If anyone has an actual length tho, I'd be happy to use it, albeit with calculations of how we got to that result.

2024.05.20 20:42 One_egg_is_an_Oeuf I'm new to Anki and need tips on how to approach my reviews

I'm relatively new to using Anki regularly as my primary learning tool. SRS is great and I have no doubts about its effectiveness.
I organize my cards with tags indicating the period I'm studying the subject and the specific test for which the information will be needed. This way, I can create a custom deck close to the exam date to review those particular cards. However, I'm confused about how to handle regular reviews.
I currently have decks for major subjects (e.g., Anatomy, Physiology), which I think are essential. But I'm wondering if I should create sub-decks within these main subjects (for example, within Anatomy, have separate decks for bones, muscles, etc.).
For those with more experience: Is it better to review cards from different areas mixed together, or is it more efficient to review cards by specific subjects?

2024.05.20 18:25 Twitch6r A Man Amongst the Stars 9

First Previous Next
*Knock* *Knock*
A soft knock gently woke me up from my dreamless slumber. When I opened my eyes, I was met with a pitch black expanse. I noted that the retina-destroying light bulb must have been turned off at some point. Feeling around, I could feel my body was less sore then it was the previous, what I’ve taken to calling sleep cycles, as it didn’t feel quite right to call anything night or day anymore.
Still, though, I could feel a distinct pang of pain that shot through me every time I tried to perform an action more complex than raising my right hand, while doing anything with my left was completely out of the picture. With apprehension, I crossed my right arm across my body to gently grope around my left in an attempt to find the part that was actually broken, but it was to no avail, as all I achieved in doing so was hurting myself.
*Knock* *Knock*
Oh right, the door. Were they waiting for me to allow them in? In that case, this definitely isn’t Guard.
“You can come in.” I yelled hesitantly.
The door flew open at such speed that I wouldn't be surprised if the door fell off its space hinges. In the doorway, a figure stood. I couldn’t quite identify their features, but their silhouette was enough to identify the fact they weren’t too tall, by space standards, of course. They still appeared to be easily 6 foot, but at this point I could barely even consider that height tall. No, what actually grabbed my attention was the several appendages that were attached to the top of their head, and that were currently freely swaying in the wind, like seaweed in the ocean. One was currently wrapped around the door knob, clueing me into the fact they were also completely autonomous. Honestly, they reminded me a lot of
 tentacles. Shit.
“S-Sorry.” Their voice and movement was shaky and erratic. They walked inside the room before quickly closing the door behind them, their features now much more visible, including the dark yellow coat and pitch black pants they wore. The gray skin across their slightly, to be nice I’ll just say chubby, body was the first notable feature. The second was the feathery gills almost identical to those of axolotl’s on the side of their head. Their face was soft, like the rest of the body, with a giant pair of pink, egg-shaped eyes that hadn't yet left the floor. Their bottom and top lip were not long enough to connect, leading to their mouth being permanently open. Their cone shaped head started pointed at the chin area, and widened out until it was big enough to accommodate the multitude of appendages on their head. They truly looked like an evolved axolotl, sans tail. “I’ve been working out recently, g-guess I don’t know my own strengths anymore.” They nervously chuckled while rubbing their webbed hands together.
“Uh, it’s alright. I mean, it’s not my door so I don’t mind.” I said in an attempt to comfort them. “No shame in working out. It’s clearly effective, right?” At this, the feathery gills adorning their head pulsed slightly in a pink light, before quickly returning to their non-luminescent state. For the first time since they came into the room, they looked at me.
“A-are you the Hum’un.”
“Who are you?” I tried not to be rude, as so far they had given me no reason to be, but it was also imperative I didn’t let my guard down. Better safe than sorry.
“Doctor!” They practically yelled, before seemingly becoming embarrassed. “Sorry, I’m sorry. Doctor, a-as in, that’s wh-what I am. For you. That is.” Christ, and I thought I was nervous.
“What would a doctor of a different species do for me? We don't exactly share the same body.” I tried to not be confrontational, but at the same time, it was a real concern that I knew might impede any help I could receive.
“N-no worries, I’m no regular physician, I’m a trained interspecies specialist, specifically employed to help with whatever ailments might have befallen you. I have certifications in 7 different medical departments, over 8 polar cycles in non-primary education, have treated all sorts of species throughout the galaxy, almost-” I tuned out their accomplishments by this point, letting the ramblings just wash over me. They. I’ve just been saying they as a placeholder until I could figure out their gender, but maybe it was silly to assume an alien would always be male or female, especially considering this probably wasn’t even a mammal, judging by their aquatic look and the fact they lacked any mammary tissue. I mean, so do I, but
whatever. They would probably be fine. “Isn’t that impressive?”
“Hm? Oh, yeah it is. Great job.” I gave a reassuring smile that they appeared to have appreciated. “So, do we begin now, or?” I cut myself off to give them an opening to talk, as it didn’t seem in their nature to have the confidence to initiate.
“Y-yes, of course.” They walked up to the side of my bed before continuing. “I have been tasked with going over any injuries you may have sustained during your last mission. Is this correct?”
“I was hurt pretty bad, yes.”
“Great! Not because you were hurt, of course, just as in, you know.” The gills pulsated again.
“Calm down, I get it.”
“Mhm, of course.” They looked around before continuing. “Before we begin, mind answering a couple survey questions? It won't take long.”
“Questions? Really?” My patience for any sort of questions had run thin after yesterday's fiasco, and it wasn’t something I wanted repeated.
“J-just a couple regarding who you are. It will help me treat you b-better.”
“Fine.”
“Perfect!” They ruffled through coat pockets using the appendages on their head before pulling out a crumpled piece of paper. “Firstly, are you a mammal? Yes or no.”
“Yes.” They emerged a small circle shaped object from their pocket before gliding it gently across the paper, leaving a symbol containing a large circle on the outside with different sized circles on the inside..
“Second, what is your gender?”
“Male.” Again, the object gently flew across the paper.
“Thirdly, does your blood contain any chemicals?”
“Mainly copper, but also some other metals like iron.” I explained. I hoped they wouldn’t ask any questions about my anatomy more complex than that, as my limited biology knowledge wouldn’t get me very far. “Also oxygen. A lot of oxygen.” With one last swipe on the paper, they folded the paper back up before stuffing it back into a pocket.
“Thank you so much for cooperating! You know, you’re nowhere near as aggressive as they said you would be.” The doctor spoke absentmindedly as the appendages began to pull out instruments from their pockets.
“Really? They labeled me as “aggressive?” Maybe if they didn’t try to tear me down at every opportunity, I wouldn’t have a reason to be “aggressive.” Have they ever thought about that?” I steadily raised my voice, making sure that anyone outside could hear me.
“No! Th-that's not it at all. They just implied it because injured animals are usually more aggressive. That’s all!” They sputtered in an attempt to reassure me.
“Animal? Fucking animal?” I muttered incredulously. That implication made me fume. “I’m not some stupid animal that broke its paw; some animal that would die in the wilderness without aid. If I was left in that forest, guess what? I would have found a way to survive. My species was built to survive.” In an attempt to show the doctor what I meant, I decided, for the first time since I was getting knocked around by drones, to move on my legs. I carelessly moved my legs off the bed before gaining enough ambition to jump off.
“Y-You really shouldn’t do that!” The doctor warned, taking a step back to avoid my wake. As I was too focused trying to grow accustomed to the weakness in my legs, I ignored them. I couldn’t stand on my own, instead opting to use the support of the bedside desk as support. Whether this was because I hadn’t used my legs in over a day, or because of any sort of injuries I may have sustained, I wasn’t sure, but ultimately it didn’t matter, as the result was still the same. “Please, sit back-”
“SHUT UP!” They jumped back, almost falling over in the process. Damn it, I didn’t mean to yell, it was just the strain I was putting on myself that made it hard to regulate my volume. Still, it was obvious what they were implying through their facade of “concern.” “I can, ugh, I can do this, back off!” I swung my arm forward for no real reason. They were too far away to hit, being more off a signal to not get near. I took another step.”
“Please, don’t come any closer.” Their voice was soft but at the same time obviously urgent. “You’ll get yourself hur-”
“That’s what you think.” I took another step. “You think you already know me.” Another step. Unfiltered resentment spilled out of me as I continued to move forward, despite the pain in my legs. “You don’t know anything about me. You, no, they all think they know what makes me tick. How to keep me down.”
“Don’t take another step.” Their appendages going wild, each either wrapping around themself for protection, or sticking forward at me. “I-I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Try it.”
“W-what?”
“Try it. Try to hurt me. You lay even a single one of those tentacles on me, I will rip each one off your stout head, Axolotl.” With one final step, I was now far enough away to no longer reach the desk, but even without it, I stood. “So try it, because you have no idea what I’m cap-AGHHHH!” Before I could react, an invisible stream of electricity shot out from a device one of the appendages was holding, sending bolts of pure lightning through my veins.
The sudden pain was intense enough to make me blackout for a couple of seconds. Even after, my vision was still blurry, and all I could hear was a piercing ring. I could feel my legs give out from under me as I fruitlessly swung my arms in all directions to find something for support. This was unsuccessful, and in a moment, I was off my feet and cascading to the ground. I closed my eyes and braced myself for impact, for the feeling of smashing my already broken arm into the ground, but that feeling never came. Instead, I felt multiple firm, long limbs brace around my waist, my legs, and across my chest, keeping me upright.
My brain was too fried to be confused, to fight back, so instead I leaned into the appendages. They didn’t wrap around me tightly, just enough to keep me supported. They slithered across my surface, trying to find crooks in my body for better leverage, or so I assumed. Eventually, they found some appropriate spots to wrap around for the best support. It was comfortable for me. So comfortable, in fact, I didn’t even notice my feet leave the ground.
When I did, I didn’t even have the energy to react, simply going limp in their grasp. I was in the air for what felt like an eternity, which, in reality, was probably 30 seconds at most. I was enveloped by the feeling of my cushy bed. I was pressed into it with more force than was suitable, though I suppose it was a subliminal message to me that I shouldn’t try to leave it. The appendages untangled from my body and soon, all I could see, hear, and process was a faint ringing in my ear and blurred vision that left me in no position to even try and speak.
This lasted for several minutes as I was stuck between what felt like two planes of reality. It was a disorienting mess of stimuli that I had no way of understanding in the state I was in, like how seizures are described. Was I having a seizure?
Several more moments passed, and right as I started to consider that option seriously, my vision slowly began restoring itself around the edges. So did any physical sensation outside of the after shock, shortly afterward. My tongue still felt heavy in my mouth, though, and the taste of copper still lingered, similar to the taste of a bag of electrified pennies shoved down my throat.
That’s just about when I finally heard them again.
“-and I know I shouldn’t have but I got scared and again I’m sorry I didn’t know it was on full charge and I should have checked but also I should have never used it because I was capable of stopping you without it but I was scared and I was in no authority to use it and I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry-”
I attempted a response to the ramblings that had been going on for however long, but all that came out was a bemused grunt followed by a coughing fit. It wasn’t very effective in communicating anything, not even being loud enough to get their attention. So I tried again. “Sss.”
They jumped back at the loud hissing sound. “A-a-are you okay?”
“Ss-shut up.” I practically gurgled out from the depths of my throat. “You talk too much.”
“O-oh th-thank goodness you’re ok. I’m so sorry about this. I shouldn’t have shot the Tuca’p, it was brazzen and unprofessional of me. I should have done something, anything other then-”
“Shut up.” Their expression dropped. “Quit making so many excuses, you don’t need any. I was being a dick to you, which you didn’t deserve. You were only reciting what they said. I shouldn’t have taken that out on you.” Despite everything, I’m glad I never lost the ability to find humor in a facial expression, because the one I was witnessing was priceless. I would have laughed if I’d remembered. “You know, you're not too bad.”
“I-I don’t-I’m not sure what it is-excuse me, I don’t
Thank you.” Their gills flushed a vibrant hue of pink light, filling the entire room for only a moment. “Thank you.”
I picked myself up from the groove in the bed. “Why were you here again?”
“Oh, right!” Instantly, the appendages shot in all directions, some grabbing tools from their pockets, off the desk, while two latched under my arms, and another around my waist. “Is this alright?”
“Sure.”
“Ok, perfect!” They got closer to me, really close, actually, and brought the tools along. “Now, firstly, I’m going to gently move your limbs, and you’re going to tell me if anything hurts, ok?”
“Understood.” Without further warning, the appendages wrapped around the base of my arm next to the shoulder and began to rhythmically shake them. Instantly, I felt a sharp pain in my left bicep. “Fuck.”
“Where?”
“Left. Left arm.”
“Can you use your right to show the afflicted area.” At this point, it was less of a question and more of a command. Without another word, I wriggled my right hand out of their grip and ran my fingers across the afflicted parts of my arm. This ended up consisting of the entirety of it from my shoulder to just before my hand. Damn, I must have really messed myself up.
“Right here.”
“Interesting.” The limbs suddenly left my arms and briefly went to my legs. “Anything?” They asked as they shook my legs firmly.
“No.”
“What about-” They cut themselves off while two appendages ran across my torso and body. As they went, they firmly pressed against me in another attempt to find any pain.
“I don’t think your going to find anything broken ther-shit!” The limbs immediately stopped at the point I made noise.
“Interesting.” They lightly pressed down on the spot, eliciting the same reaction from me.
“Mind telling me what's here?”
“As in bone structure? Well, on either side of my body I have 12 bones that wrap around the interior of myself. We call it a ribcage, ‘cause it’s like a cage.” It was weird to describe an aspect of the human body that is so ubiquitous that in any other circumstance, would not even require a second breath.
“From what I can feel,” they pressed down against the spot again for emphasis, “ It appears something is looser than the other bones around it. Is that normal?”
“No, I think I might have cracked a rib.”
“Will you heal on your own?”
“Aside from getting a limb chopped off, I can heal from just about anything given enough time.”
“Impressive.” They paused awkwardly like they were about to continue, but stopped before the words could leave their mouth, instead just hanging agape like a fish drowning in air. “”Y-you’re impressive.”
The last stutter made me realize how they were completely stutter-free for the entirety of the check-up. Turns out being good at a job brings out the confidence in someone. It was funny, ‘cause I could relate.
“I know.” I couldn’t help but give a smug smile. “Of course I know!”
“I’m glad.” From a coat pocket, they pulled out a small square with a sac full of a purple liquid on the back. On the front, small metal teeth lined the edges of the square, all of which protruded perfectly forward. “That being said, I have some medicine that will speed up the process. Now, if you’ll just stick out an arm.” The appendage slithered its way up the length of my arm and gripped tightly at the elbow. Without further pause, the strange square was pushed into my arm, and started to inject itself into my bloodstream.
The sensation was strange, feeling like an ice cold liquid was dumped directly into my veins. I flinched and yanked my arm back, the square unbothered by this sudden movement as it was completely dug into my arm.
“How is this going to help exactly?”
“The liquid should fuse with your blood cells and increase their proficiency. Y-You have blood cells, right?”
“Yes, I have blood cells. What doesn’t?”
“I don’t know, it's just you’re strange.”
“I know I am, a lot of people have been telling me that recently.” When the square was just about finished depositing the liquid, I yanked it out from my arm and threw it on the nearby desk. “A lot of people.”
“I’m sorry.”
“What was that?”
“I’m sorry The Council and their team haven't met your expectations of decency.” They spoke with a smooth tone that made it clear every word was carefully chosen. “And I’m sorry I contributed to that when I unintentionally disrespected you earlier. I never want anyone to feel that way. I know how it can feel.”
I didn’t respond, not because I understood them, or appreciated the apology, or the words that should have given me some sense of retribution, but because I had nothing to say. The words were phony, they rang hollow because I knew they had no worth whatsoever. What would I do with a sorry, and what did they even represent? That they cared? I think I could count the amount of people who have ever had genuine respect for me on one hand, and even then, that takes time. I have no reason to believe this one who I met 20 minutes ago had any reason to care, so I said nothing.
“W-well, I should be going now. I checked on all parts of your body, and judging by the amount of damage, you should be back up and running in barley a couple Anex’s, so I see no reason why you should worry.”
“Ok.” Their expression faltered, this time giving me no amusement. “Thanks.” I turned away from them, and proceeded to focus on the machines whirling next to me as a distraction until they left.
Finally, after a minute or so, I started to hear footsteps walk towards the door. Then, “You’re not what they say you are.”
“...”
“I know we just met, and I know we don’t know anything about each other but
I know you’re more than some aggressive fighter, more than what's under the surface.”
“...”
“I just
I just don’t believe they know that. Neither do you.” The door opened, signifying their exit. “By the way, I’ll deliver you some clothes next Anex.” And just like that, they were gone.
I didn’t understand that last statement for a minute, before looking down and suddenly remembering I was completely naked save for the crumpled blanket that lay on the floor. ‘Shit, have I been like this the entire time?’ The embarrassment that filled me was immense, and honestly made me laugh with how I didn’t notice. It was enough to, briefly, distract me from what they said to me.
I wanted to act like they had no effect on me, like with the apology, but for some reason I just couldn’t. The words clung to me, and I couldn’t help but ponder them. It was only when I reminded myself of the fact we had only briefly interacted, and that they had no knowledge of me as a person, that I threw the statement to the side to forget about. ‘First impressions are often misleading.’
They were interesting, that's for sure, but they quickly left my mind. What replaced it was the persistent thought that I was weak for rotting in this bed the past couple days. Sure I needed to heal, but by this point, it was plenty. I knew I needed to make myself feel better, and the only way I could was by proving those days of rest meant something. To prove this, I was going to walk.
I had already done it, but that was done for a different reason, and I wanted to prove it wasn’t a one time thing. So I scooted off the bed and with a deep breath, I put both legs on the ground. The immediate pain I felt made me question how I was even able to do it the first time. Still I didn’t let it deter me, and with one step in front of the other, I moved. I moved forward, not gracefully, not quickly, but I moved forward, like I was taught to do.
I touched the wall on the other side of the room and briefly rested against it for support, before walking back to the bed, then back to the wall, over, and over, and over again. The repetition showed it was worth it, showed that I was, in fact, a fighter.
‘Ha, shows what they know.’

2024.05.20 14:57 Euphoric-Soup-1059 I just need to scream into the void for a moment

I wake up every single morning to my chest aching. As I get up and move and accept it aches a little less. But I go to school and come home for lunch, for the dinner, for bed, for anything, and the ache renews. I go to bed and the ache is there. And every night I go to bed and I have to distract myself thoroughly until I’m fully asleep to avoid the ache. It’s only been 3.5 weeks. No time at all but
well I’m grieving my dog and I’ve never hurt like this for a dog before. I’ve been sad and missed them but I’ve never ached so much. And she wasn’t even my heart dog. My heart dog (soul dog? The one that’s going to pain my entire body is still sleeping next to me) is still sleeping next to me.
trigger warning of my dispare and my babies rough/graphic short life going forward
But the reason it’s so painful maybe? Is that she was 10mo old. She was just a baby. My little Bailey. A Saint Bernard puppy. We got her and from week 1 things went wrong. She had Parvo that stuck around a long time but she survived it. She got it from a neighbor dog days before her vaccination. My hours doesn’t have any fencing or a good backyard so she was exposed to soon. But she survived. Then she developed panosteitis. A bone condition that everyone on advice groups loved to tell me was my fault. Our vet said it was actually likely the Parvo plus the food (that the vet told us to give her after I spent hours researching). And she never got better. She developed several other conditions. Likely had an auto immune disorder from a weird genetic defect that almost never occurs but all her symptoms lined up with but the vet said not to run the panel because the day he caught it her fever was 107 (106 was something we were familiar with and felt with monthly) and meds weren’t dropping it and she was bleeding (dark brown and sometimes bright red, she was bleeding out internally) at the mouth. And he said that her anatomy wasn’t compatible with life. So she left us. And we constantly wonder if it was something we could have fixed. We were looking for rescues who could have taken her and got her help because we had spent thousands (and have gone into debt) to keep her going and our sources were tapped. But she couldn’t even make it the night. And it hurts. And our other dog, my old lady dog is depressed because her “baby” is gone. And it hurts. A lot. And I just needed to scream into the void. Thank you.

2024.05.19 19:51 Fakeit_tilyoumakeit5 Best setting spray/mascara for eye makeup that smudges

I have a chronic problem where my mascara seems to rub off both above and under my eyes within an hour of application so I end up with annoying little black streaks around my eyes. Partly my facial anatomy is to blame in that my eyelashes easily touch my brow bone and when I smile they touch the skin under my eyes. Using a setting spray on top of my makeup seems to help a bit but just wondering if anyone has any other tips or product recommendations for combatting this?? I’d like to avoid waterproof mascara just because it’s more of a pain to remove but open to try anything!! Thanks!!!

Dragon Development Diary #4: Hatching and Cradling
Hey Everyone! Uber here again with the fourth of our Dragon Development Diaries!
We now know the Dragons' Vision, the Anatomy of a Dragons Portrait, and even all of what makes a dragon unique in type and personality. Today, we are going to dive into everything about Hatching, cradling, egg laying and 'Dragon Blood'. I'll be joined by one of our scripters, Typical.
Heyo, I’m Typical, one of the Advanced Scripters on the team. You may remember me as the guy who created the Faegon Invasions and or as a general onion fanatic on the main server - as Uber mentioned, we are going to go over hatching and more, which is a lot of what I had worked on for this update, so without further ado, let’s get to it.

Bringing them back and Dragon Lore

For nearly a hundred years, as seen in the main series of books and our current bookmarks, dragons have been believed to be extinct. All that remains are dragon bones, eggs, and numerous written accounts. From the eyes of your average ruler, you must read over these accounts and use your best judgment. To bring dragons back, one must undergo the dangerous ritual known as the Hatching Ceremony.
The Hatching Ceremony is a new activity in development. Through the choices the character makes and the pursuit of luck, you might hatch a dragon. This activity is very much based upon the attempts of numerous Targaryens in our histories, specifically, the rumours surrounding the Tragedy at Summerhall and our interpretations of that event in our Nine-Penny Kings Bookmark.
To start your adventure into Hatching, you must select an egg and than choose where you want to hatch the dragon egg. (Note all following images are WIP; and art is underway progress)
https://preview.redd.it/rk4czf9cfe1d1.png?width=943&format=png&auto=webp&s=015ec8f4b33e3ab6f484ccb08cf884497d0f7272

But even before doing that, I would recommend gaining as much dragon lore as possible, or else you shall meet the same fate Aegon the Unlikely did. To learn Dragon lore, you must explore places with significant dragon history, learn about the history of the place, and gain a broader picture of what a dragon really is. You may plan ahead and travel to some of these sites as part of a grander trip, twisting your travel plans to go out and hit these Points of Interest.

Hatching Preparations

Once you've chosen the egg you want to hatch, you face the most challenging part of the Hatching Ceremony: selecting the proper method. There are two main types of the Hatching Ceremony: Knowledge Hatching and Esoteric Hatching. As the names suggest, Knowledge Hatching involves using willing maesters and other wise men to hatch the dragon through ‘Maester facts’ and logic. In contrast, Esoteric Hatching relies on a character's belief in faith, using both ritual and help from the faithful to bring the dragon to life.

Next, you need to select who will be participating with you; options are the following:
  • Close Family
  • Close Family and Kingsguard (King and Ruling Family only)
  • Extended Family
After that is the second most important choice, selecting a method in which you are going to hatch the egg. Options are follows:
  • Wooden Pyre
  • Sacrifice
    • Animal
    • Human
    • Valyrian Steel
    • Own Blood
  • Wildfire
  • BURN THEM ALL
https://preview.redd.it/tvunyegage1d1.png?width=964&format=png&auto=webp&s=02512bd44d83b17391b627f8294ea2f8b0d6f074
Soon after your choice, the ceremony will commence,
https://preview.redd.it/0blc2m1ege1d1.png?width=1831&format=png&auto=webp&s=7207cbb4ad68352d6e30a094e1a8aba4f65180ee

The Ceremony

When the ceremony starts, you can either continue or fold and end the ritual. This choice remains available until the very moment of hatching. You never know if you have unleashed dragons anew in the next moment, or uh
.. It's a complicated risk overall.
https://preview.redd.it/zqa09kzhge1d1.png?width=820&format=png&auto=webp&s=978cecdbf7a93d3793ab130d80ff8994591ac168
In the next event, you'll be given several options for hatching the egg. While the chance of success is random, it's weighted by your actions and attributes. For instance, someone with extensive dragon lore and Valyrian blood will have a higher chance of success than an onion farmer with no dragon lore or Valyrian blood.
https://preview.redd.it/4x8exihoge1d1.png?width=1788&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d8ea0bfab220bbccd95ba1b140003fdff7c60e0
Should you Succeed, the newborn dragon shall be born, and the dragons shall return to this world; if you fail, the consequences will be dire for both you and all participants in a botched attempt unless that is if you wanted that. Yes you heard me right, the activity has 2 intents, suicide by hatching and hatching a dragon. The funny thing is that if you fail in your suicide and actually hatch a dragon, you will get a nice 2 levels of stress for that.
https://preview.redd.it/djkqc5uuge1d1.png?width=1806&format=png&auto=webp&s=6008d58c022cec26d95884273af0dbb6c80c9ff0

Or the Alternative

The Hatching Ceremony is still possible to do once the dragon is back in the world of the living since not every egg will hatch a natural way, and there is also the fact that non-Valyrians will need to take part in this dangerous procedure to be able to cradle eggs in the future. On the subject of cradling eggs,

Cradling Eggs

Once dragons have returned to the world. In the chance you get an egg you will be able to hatch it naturally via the new cradling mechanic. Cradling and Hatching are similar in the sense that they can end up with a hatching dragon, but cradling is, first and foremost, a much safer and lengthy procedure. While you may hatch an egg via a Hatching Ceremony over the course of a month, hatching an egg via cradling might take years; As to Cradle an Egg to hatch, one needs first to build a bond with the egg.
To start cradling an egg, as with hatching an egg via ceremony, you must select the egg via character interaction. On that note, you can also gift an egg to one of your family members and tell them to start cradling an egg or give an egg to one of your courtiers and order them to start cradling, with the caveat that they need to have dragon blood. What is dragon blood? Don’t worry about it. I will explain it just past the cradling segment.
https://preview.redd.it/vrulxacdhe1d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=afdd08ab56565c583f81f39b632f422a8b3a77c5
https://preview.redd.it/4eltxm7fhe1d1.png?width=1065&format=png&auto=webp&s=f947f109a70ac06be0655a29275a7f70bf2202bb
After selecting one of the mentioned interactions, the whole process starts. After this, Players and Ruler AI can get a chance to increase their bond with an egg by selecting the new “Spend time with Egg” decision & random events. Non-ruler AI characters can increase their bond within the same range once at the beginning of each new year for performance reasons.
https://preview.redd.it/jkntgxguhe1d1.png?width=1160&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ba077d5a28e719161a2ed4f4428a78c3dddf296

Every year, there is a growing chance that, based on your bond with the egg, it will hatch. There is also a chance that after 10 years of not hatching, the egg will end up being a dud, forcing you to hatch the egg via ceremony. That is basically all in regards to Cradling.
https://preview.redd.it/b5618qlyhe1d1.png?width=834&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b5a84a6fb5b010c90acdf94f10370a610f98d99

Dragon Blood

Dragon Blood is a mechanic that defines who can cradle an egg; By default, only Valyrian Cultures (High, Essosi, Westerosi Valyrian, Tolosi and Mantaryan - and derivatives) can cradle an egg. Houses such as House Targaryen, or any house that successfully becomes a dragon-riding house with the Hatching Ceremony - will be valid to Hatch, Tame and Cradle Dragons. Lastly, anyone with a blood connection up to three generations to someone with Dragon Blood is also considered valid. That is to say, be careful how you marry and grow your family, let alone sleep around; you wouldn’t want too many bastards running around 😉. This mechanic also has a set of game-rules to switch through.
https://preview.redd.it/xkblxvz2ie1d1.png?width=569&format=png&auto=webp&s=8114d7355e1e35b6e108df43a1b013a12649554f

Egg Laying

Your dragon can lay eggs, and every year, there is a random chance they will lay one or more eggs, with a slight preference for laying one egg over multiple ones. However, what's important is that dragons age differently and thus have different times when they are more or less fertile. Depending on their age, you might get more or fewer eggs. If your dragon lays multiple eggs, the amount is weighted randomly based on factors such as your bond with the dragon, whether they have a mate, traits, and age. There is also a significant chance (base 30%) that your dragon has left at least two eggs before their passing, in which case you will get the eggs they left behind.

2024.05.19 10:58 jenajiejing The Secret of Human Bodies – Examples Proving the Existence of the Greatest Creator

Xue Feng Though the modern medicine has limited knowledge of human bodies, what we have known is enough for us to admire the excellent human body structure and functions. Each system and organ in the human body is designed by the Greatest Creator. Even those trivial body parts have great functions. For example, there are several types of hairs on human bodies with distinct forms and functions. The head hair is designed to protect and beautify the head. It can grow long. According to the Bible, “But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.” The eyebrows can divert sweat and rain, preventing them into the eyes. That’s why they are lined above the two eyes. Eyelashes can prevent the dust and other things from entering the eyes. That’s why they are lined on the sides of the eyelids. Also they stand forward in a special curve because it wouldn’t hinder the eyesight or pierce into the eyes when closing the eyes. If the eyebrows and eyelashes are too long, they will hinder the eyesight. That’s why they wouldn’t grow as long as the hair or beards. The nasal hairs can filter the inhaled air. That’s why they grow inside the nostril and stand sideways and outwards. If they stand inwards, the other things will find it easy to come into the nostrils and difficult to go out. The armpit hairs can prevent the partial friction and help the sweat evaporate. Without the armpit hairs, we have to raise our arms. Otherwise the skin under the arm will become inflamed because of the friction and moist. Required by the function, the armpit hairs cannot grow as long as the head hairs, or as short as the eyebrows. Besides, they are soft and curving. If they are rigid and coarse, they will hurt the skin. And cilia grow on the intestinal epithelium. The cilia grow downward and vibrate together. The vibrating waves move downward from upward to help move down the intestinal contents. Cilia also grow on the airway and bronchus epithelium. However, they grow and vibrate in the opposite direction as those on the intestinal epithelium. Only in this way can they move the sputum upward to the throat and spit them. If they grow downward, the airway and bronchus would get stuck by the sputum and the humans would die from it. Now I wish to take two simple reflections of human bodies as an example. When foreign matters enter the nostrils or airways, they will arouse two protective reflections, sneeze or cough, which is designed to repel the foreign matters. But due to different situation, these two reflections differ in their approaches. The foreign matters in the nostrils are not urgent so the sneeze reflection can be prepared in a composed way. First, inhale slowly; open the mouth, and the soft place move upward to block the nostril. Then breathe in enough air through the mouth, and the pleural body contracts sharply to emit the air in the lungs quickly. When the emitting reaches its peak, the tongue rises abruptly to block the mouth to repel the air to go out swiftly through the nostrils. In this way the foreign matters in the nostrils are driven out. However, if the foreign matters enter the airway, it is an emergent situation. If the foreign matters are not driven out timely, the life will be put at risk. The inhaling is strictly forbidden because it will make the foreign matters go deeper and cause suffocation. So the cough doesn’t include the inhaling. Instead, the glottis closes immediately. At the same time, the pleural body contracts suddenly and adds the lung air pressure extremely. When the pressure is at its strongest point, the glottis opens suddenly and the lung air sends out explosively, compelling the foreign matters in the airway to the throat via the glottis. At this time, the soft place rises to block the nostrils. The foreign matters are spit out through the mouth. If the tongue and the soft place perform the same way as in the sneeze, the foreign matters emitted out of the airway will enter the nostrils, causing another trouble. In these two reflections, the body parts must cooperate closely. Any failure in the coordination will lead to the failure of the reflection, causing serious consequences. So these activities are not done freely. Instead, they are done as required by their functions and set procedures. These procedures are not learnt or practices. The program has been rooted in our brain nerve structure (nerve nucleus) when we are born. Otherwise, the babies will not survive. The advanced computer science has made it possible to simulate these activities. However, the simulation requires 3 conditions: 1. Device simulating the inhale and exhaling of human mouth, nose, throat, pleural and the sensing device; 2. The central control equipment simulating nerves and body system (compute, input and output devices). The above two devices are hardware. And software is also needed, namely (3). A program composed in strict compliance with the requirements to control the performance and procedure of each link, and arrange them in perfect coordination. All the three conditions are imperative. Otherwise the reflections can’t be realized. The program itself is not a substance structure. Instead, it is a smart use and spiritual result. There will be no such a thing as the program without the smart use. So we have to ask, the program is composed by the humans and stored in the computer, how about the control program in the human brain. Is it also composed by someone and stored in the human brain? Sneeze and cough are the simplest examples. There are numerous automatically controlled physical, bio-chemical and pathological human body activities, which are even more sophisticated than reflections of cough. Even today, some of them remain mysteries to us. So how are these sophisticated control programs composed? And where do they come from? Now let’s have a look at the sensory organs on human bodies. Why do we have two ears? The reason is that one ear is not able to identify the direction. With the ears lying on two sides of the head, the sound reaches the ears in sequence of time. Based on the slight receiving time difference, the brain can judge where the sound comes from. The auricle is the most outward component of the ear. It can introduce the sound into the external auditory canal. Within the auricle there is a thin layer of cartilage helping to retain the form of auricle, giving it wonderful elasticity and protecting it from the clashes. Without the cartilage, the auricle is just two useless pieces of skin hanging on the head side. If the thin bone is inside the auricle, it will break easily even if when you are sleeping on your side, damaging the auricle. There is fuzz on the outer segment of the external auditory canal preventing the sand and dust. The inner segment secretes cerumen to prevent insects. When foreign matters enter the external auditory canal, it will trigger head shaking, instead of sneeze or cough, to get the matters out. Because the external auditory canal is a blind passage, it is impossible to repel the foreign matters with air. Why don’t the foreign matters in the nostrils arouse the head-shaking reflection to repel them? That’s because the nostrils of humans almost lie in the middle of the head. The shaking is not able to produce enough centrifugal force. Besides, the human nostrils face downward and it is improper to repel the foreign matters by shaking the head. The sound is produced by the mechanical vibration of objects and is transmitted by the air fluctuation, or the sound waves. The human ears are actually working like a precise mechanical vibration monitor. In the inner ear there are a number of keyboards with different sizes, producing nerve impulses produced by echoing with corresponding frequencies. The brain, in accordance with the features of these impulses, identifies the strength, tunes and timbre of the sounds. We must note though there are many sensory organs in human bodies, only the inner ear is protected by the most solid and firm bones. In fact, it lies in the cave part of the temporal bone. Of all the sensory organs, only the ears monitor the mechanical vibration, which needs a relatively fixed position. Otherwise, it is not able to monitor the sound. If the inner ear lies in the soft tissues, when the sound wave arrives, the inner ear will vibrate with it. Thus it can hear nothing. Now the inner ear lies in the firm bone and it can’t sense the air vibration. So it is imperative to reduce the density waves to the mechanical vibrations before sending them to the inner ear. And there is such a reduction device at the middle bottom of the external auditory canal, which is called the eardrum. The eardrum has enough space to receive the air pressure. It is thin enough to vibrate when the sound wave arrives. Meanwhile, the eardrum is strong enough to push the transmission device. The long handle of the middle ear cartilage is attached to its inner side, the tensile force of which makes the eardrum sink inside slightly to maintain certain tension. This allows the eardrum to accurately reduce the arriving sound waves into the mechanical vibrations. No matter what the temperature is, the vibration function is not impacted. After the sound waves are reduced into the mechanical vibration, some rigid objects are needed to transmit the vibration to the inner ear. Of all body tissues, the most rigid objects are the bones. However, the bones are heavy in general and covered by the soft tissues, which are not suitable for the audio vibration. However, in the tympanic cavity between the eardrum and the inner ear, there are three unique tiny bones with delicate forms measured in millimeters. They are almost completely exposed to the air in the tympanic cavity. These three tiny bones are connected by ligament and form a transmission chain in curve with excellent audio vibration function, able to transmit accurately the vibration of the eardrum to the inner ear. The transmission device can properly multiply the weak vibration and reduce the strong sound wave. All of these structures are the super designs required by the acoustics. There are even smarter designs in the hearing organ. For example, to make the eardrum vibrate freely following the arriving sound waves, the two sides of the eardrums must be exposed to the air. As a result, there is a tympanic cavity full of air in the middle ear. If the cavity is filled by liquids, just as other cavities are, the eardrum is not able to vibrate because the liquids can’t contract. Besides, the cavity does not only need to be filled with air, but also needs to be connected to the outside world with a proper passage, to balance the static air pressure in the cavity with the outside air pressure. Otherwise, the air in the cavity will gradually be absorbed, causing the eardrum to sink excessively or damaging it. When the outside air pressure changes, (such as in mountain climbing, diving, the airplane takeoff or climate change), it will arouse uncomfortable feelings or lead to hearing malfunction. But the middle ear can’t be opened to the outside world directly, just like the external auditory canal or nostrils can. The reason is that the direct exposure will make the arriving waving sound reach the two sides of the eardrums at the same time via the external auditory canal and middle ear passage, counteracting the sound pressure. Thus the eardrums will not vibrate at all, unable to produce the hearing. So it is a difficult problem to connect the middle ear and the outside world. However, the human body, with a smart design, solves this problem. The middle ear is opened at the two sides in the upper rear of the pharynx via a half-opened passage (the so-called auditory tube). The auditory tube is locked in common times and only opened temporarily when taking the swallowing actions, balancing the air pressure in the middle ear shortly. After the swallowing action is over, the auditory tube is locked again. Apart from eating, human body would regularly take swallowing action unconsciously, even when he or she is sleeping. Thus the air pressure in the middle ear can be adjusted from time to time and avoid the hearing from being hindered. Besides, when swallowing, the swallowing segment and the soft palate will definitely rise, blocking the mouth and nostrils against the outside world. So on the moment when the ear and throat are opened shortly, though the air in the throat can enter the middle ear, the sound waves from the outside world are blocked against the middle ear. As a result, the hearing will not be interfered and can receive the outside sound and voice. Only the throat in the body can meet the special demand of the hearing organs. The throat is originally designed as part of the digestion and breathing system, it does not belong to sensory system. However, it can cooperate so smartly with the hearing organs. We have to admire the extremely delicate body-wise design. The vestibule in the inner ear controls the balance of the body. In the vestibule there are 3 semicircular canals. When the body loses balance, the mutually-vertical semicircular canals produce the balance impulse, which triggers the corresponding reflection via the balance center in the medulla brain. Why are there 3 semicircular canals instead of 2 or 4? And why are they mutually vertical? The reason is apparent. Humans live in the 3-dimensional space. There are 3 mutually-vertical movement directions, namely, front and rear, left and right, upward and downward. So the 3 mutually-vertical semicircular canals can monitor the movements. The number less than 3 or more than 3 would be insufficient or redundant. We can see the delicate and smart structure and function, and the supreme wisdom in them. They can’t be the accidental results. As the most important perception of human bodies, vision provides more information than that provided by all other perceptions. The vision is the perception of image and space and the visual organs must have the most precise and accurate structure completely different from other sensory organs. As a result, in the perspective of the embryo-genesis or neuro-anatomy, the main structure of the eyes is not just the common receptor. Instead, it is part of the cerebral cortex. The so-called optic nerves are completely different from other cerebrospinal nerves. In essence, the optic nerves are inner structure in the brain, transmitting the most sophisticated visual information. The eyes function like a precise camera. The retina composed of the photoreceptor cells is just like the films. The crystal, iris and the cornea works like the lens, diaphragm and the filter. However, the precision and automatic adjustment of the eyes is no match of any high-quality cameras. For example, the lens in modern cameras is made of special glass or hard plastics with fixed focal distance. When taking pictures for the landscapes with different distances, the lens position must be adjusted. Otherwise, the image will not be produced on the films. But this is an awkward approach. Imagine when the eyes are watching landscapes with different distances, the eyeballs have to protrude or recess alternatively, which looks ugly or damages the health and function of the eyes. However, the crystal in the eyes are transparent and elastic colloid, which can adjust automatically the focal distance in accordance with the distance of the objects to make sure all the objects can be imaged on the retina, without changing the position of the crystal. Such automatic adjustment function can’t be fulfilled by any camera. If we observe the eyes in the perspective of modern TV technologies, the eyes are more like the television camera, but thousands of times more precise than the television cameras. The TV image is composed of dense pixels (the mixed dark or brilliant light spots). Till now, the best TV image only contains less than 1 million pixels. However, the human eyes can produce image containing 20 billion pixels. Only the eyes can see the details of objects. No matter how clear or accurate the image is, it is still a plan view image. Then how the eyes can provide the dimensional image is a key issue of providing the complete vision. But it is not an easy task at all to convert the flat view image into the dimensional one. For a long time, people have been puzzled by how the conversion is done. Of course, we later knew the smartness and delicacy of the human body shown here. The two eyes send the flat view images they receive into the same nerve center, which contrasts and analyzes the images and judges the distance of the objects based on the slight visual angle difference caused by the position difference of the two eyes. Thus the dimensional image is produced. That’s why people have to have 2 eyes to establish the complete vision. Based on such understanding, humans have invented the dimensional movies. But the above is only the external process of how vision is formed. People have little knowledge about how the visual center works inside. We have to admit that the mysteries of human body structure and functions are beyond the intelligence of mankind. As a matter of fact, the distance judgment with two eyes is the triangulation technique which is precise and automatic. The accurate measurement needs two premises. First, the two eyes must focus on one object at the same time. Otherwise, there will be double vision, which means the one objects will be seen as two objects. As a result, the complete neuromuscular system is equipped on the outside of the eyeballs, making the eyeballs the most flexible and accurate organs. The ciliary muscle inside the eyeballs can adjust the conversion rate of the crystal at any time to focus on the object and form the clearest image. Second, the retina of the two eyes must be strictly symmetrical. Otherwise, the image contrast of the two eyes will become impossible. Furthermore, the images received by the two eyes must be transmitted at the same time to the same visual center for contrast and analysis. There are two visual nerves on the left and right side of the brain, supervising respectively the two sides of the vision field. The objects in the left of the vision field are reflected, via the eye pupil, on the retina of the right sides of the two eyeballs. The corresponding images in the two eyes, via the visual nerve, are sent to the visual center on the right side of the brain. The objects in the right of the vision field are reflected, via the eye pupil, on the retina of the left sides of the two eyeballs. The corresponding images in the two eyes, via the visual nerve, are sent to the visual center on the left side of the brain. The two visual nerves contrast the corresponding images coming from the eyes and produce the full-field dimensional images. The pairs of human parts are often symmetrical on the outside. Only the retinas are symmetrical in the same position. Namely, the left side is symmetrical to the left side and the right side symmetrical to the right side of the two retinas. That’s because the light rays come in directly. Otherwise, the visual centers can’t receive the corresponding images or get the coordinated vision. The structural symmetry of the retinas in the two eyes must be accurate to the utmost. Otherwise the images in the two eyes will not comply with each other and the ambiguity will occur. Besides, the corresponding images from the two eyes must be sent to the same visual center. Thus the optic nerves must have the corresponding special structure to realize the cross-transmission of the images. This is the unique “chiasma opticum” unique to the optic nerves. This function is not possessed by any other nervus cerebrospinalis because they don’t handle the information of images and space. If we use the computers and monitoring cameras to simulate the process of human vision, the input network of the computers has to have a similar chiasm. No other design can do it. Judging from the above, we can find all the human organs, structures and functions have shown the supreme wisdom. And these are the ways they should be. Some people think that human body has some useless organs, such as the thymus gland, appendix, tonsil and coccyx, in order to prove the human structure is imperfect. Some people used to believe that these organs were not that useful. Instead, they tend to arouse diseases such as appendicitis and tonsillitis. If these organs are cut off, it will not have much impact on the human body. In the past, people used to classify spleens and other organs into the useless organs. There was a list of useless organs in the past which included over 100 organs. But the list was long not because these organs are useless but because people at the time were ignorant. As more we know about the organs, most of them have been deleted from the list and there are only a few still remain in the list. Some people think that these organs are the leftovers of human evolution, which are called the “waste back organs” and use them as one of the evidences of evolution theory. This is a complete misunderstanding. Till not we have understood there are no such things as the “obsolescent organs”. It is simply the lack of knowledge of these organs. Take the thymus gland as an example. In the past, people didn’t know its function. Now we have understood it is the warning device of the human body against the inner and outer infection sources. As a result, the thymus gland contributes a lot to the human health. Another example, if the coccyx fractures, it will cause serious functional disturbance. So the coccyx is also an imperative part of human body. Some people might say these organs can trigger diseases. Then all human organs can lead to diseases, even brain and heart are of no exceptions. Why don’t we say the brain and heart are useless? Some organs, though they are not as important as the heart and brain and wouldn’t endanger life immediately when eliminated, are also useful. Just like if the hands or feet are lost, though not fatal, the human body is handicapped. After knowing the supreme and smart design of human structures and functions, you might want to know how they come into being. Who has designed and made such sophisticated and precise organs? We cannot avoid the question. Any truth-seeking person would admit that the extremely delicate organs and structures are not produced naturally or accidently. For instance, if someone gives you a top-class camera and tells you it is a natural one without designer or manufacturer; do you think his words are scientific and acceptable? The human body, which is even more delicate, accurate, flexible and practical, must have a supremely wise and capable creator behind it. On a spring Sunday morning in 1954, I saw a young stranger sitting in the chamber of a Church. When we started to talk, I knew that he was a student at Peking Union Medical College. He said to me, “Since I studied anatomy and physiology, I have felt the human body is really a wonder. It is not possible to understand it unless we interpret the wonder with a God.” He came to the church to seek an answer. The wonder of this young man is not the only example. I remember that when I was studying anatomy and physiology in school, some students surrounded our physiology teacher and kept asking him questions. Finally, the teacher, annoyed by so many questions, told us, “Please stop the questions because they will lead to religion in the end.” Because of the special political background at the time, the teacher’s warning silenced all the students. But his warning impressed me deeply and remained in my memory till today. My thought at that time was that the teacher was right because all the things were created by the God. Though he was not a Christian, he had to admit the truth and the further probe into the human body mysteries (part of the Universe mysteries) would definitely lead to the existence of the God (religion) in the end. Otherwise, it would be impossible to explain the wonders of the human body. The Bible says, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”(1:20 Romans 1) Was the teacher demonstrating his scientific spirit? No. The scientific spirit means the truth and boldly pursuit of the truth without avoiding any controversy. The teacher knew very clearly that one more step forward would lead to the God but he dared not move onto the path towards the truth. Instead, he asked his students to stop there. It has shown that many people refuse to admit the existence of God not because they don’t have the scientific spirit but because of the social pressure, individual consideration for their interest and prospect, just as what the teacher was doing at that time. Nevertheless, the existence of the God would not change. And we cannot live in such considerations for the reality forever. One day in the future, when we have to face the ultimate choice, we will have to face the supreme master who has created the Universe and the human beings. The Bible says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” If we don’t accept the immoral God now, we have no excuse when it comes to the day. When we talk about the origin of all things in the Universe, some young people often ask, “You have said the humans are created by the God, then who has created the God?” The analogizing logics seem to be reasonable. But it is not true. Because the God is the creator instead of the created, you can’t link these together. The table is made by the carpenter. But you cannot say the carpenter and the table have the same origin. Human benings’ understand of the God is only limited to the enlightenment from the God to the humans. Otherwise, humans cannot understand the mystery of God’s nature. The God says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Exodus 3:14 and Revelation 1:8). For the God, there is only the eternality, and there is no time, beginning or ending. Even in the scientific field, too many analogizing questions won’t be tolerated. One scholar was talking about the belief in the God with his students. One student asked suddenly and proudly, “Where does the Universe come from?” The scholar answers, “The Universe is created by the God.” The student continued to ask, “Who has created the God?” The scholar answered, “The God is Alpha and Omega and I am not created.” The student said, “This is not scientific at all.” The scholar then asked the student, “Where does the Earth come from?” The student answered, “The Earth comes from the Sun.” The scholar continued to ask, “Where does the Sun come from?” The student answered, “The Sun comes from the Galaxy.” The scholar asked again, “Where does the Galaxy come from?” The student hesitated and answered, “The Galaxy comes from the nature.” The scholar continued to ask, “Where does the nature come from?” The student couldn’t answer this question and said in anger, “The nature is the nature and comes naturally.” The scholar then laughed, “This is not scientific at all.” So we can conclude that the “scientific” answers are not scientific. Another example is that the sciences tell people that substances are composed of the molecules. Then what are the molecules composed of? The molecules are composed of the atoms. But what are the atoms composed of? They are composed of the electrons, protons and neutrons. Then what are the electrons, protons and neutrons composed of? Till now, we cannot find an answer to this question. The atomic physicists are now working hard to find the “elementary particle”. They are called “basic particles” because the scientists don’t expect the substances to be divided limitlessly. So they believe that one day they will find the ultimate component, the “elementary particle”. Of course, the scientists will not ask such question of “what is something composed of?” This is the extremity and everything ends here. The materialists claim that the Universe is limitless and that the materials are eternal and can be divided limitlessly, etc. They are simply the groundless conclusion of the philosophers. And there is an extremity in their logics, the materials. They say that the materials are Alpha and Omega but can’t tell where the materials come from. Now let’s have a look at the math. All numbers come from 1, followed by 2, 3
. You can’t ask what the 1 is because 1 is 1, and not other numbers. It means that 1 is the origin of all numbers. The Greatest Creator has created all things and the Greatest Creator is the origin of them. It will be meaningless to ask where the Greatest Creator comes from.

Though the modern medicine has limited knowledge of human bodies, what we have known is enough for us to admire the excellent human body structure and functions.
Because the external auditory canal is a blind passage, it is impossible to repel the foreign matters with air.

2024.05.19 04:57 Strict_External678 Terror Of The Blood Moon

Chapter 3: The Nightmare Made Flesh
The full moon cast an eerie glow over the quiet streets of Willowbrook as Sheriff Ethan Blackwood patrolled the town, his eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of the creature that had been terrorizing the community. The past few days had been a waking nightmare – the brutal attacks, the mounting fear, the desperate search for answers. And now, with the revelation of the glowing eyes and otherworldly growl that Deputy Sarah Harding had witnessed in the woods, Ethan couldn't shake the feeling that they were dealing with something far beyond their understanding.
As he turned onto a deserted side street, a sudden movement caught his eye. Ethan slammed on the brakes, his heart pounding as he peered into the darkness. There, illuminated in the harsh glare of his headlights, stood a figure that defied all reason and sanity.
It was humanoid in shape, but there was nothing human about the creature that loomed before him. Standing at nearly six and a half feet tall, it had a bipedal stance that was uncannily human, but its body was a grotesque parody of the human form. Its limbs were elongated and disproportionate, with a hunched, unnatural posture that spoke of a twisted, inhuman anatomy.
The creature's skin was a sickly grayish-brown, mottled with patches of dark, coarse hair that sprouted in uneven clumps across its body. Its face was a nightmarish fusion of human and bestial features, with sunken, feral eyes that glowed an eerie yellow in the darkness. Its nose was flattened and broad, with large, flaring nostrils that twitched and quivered as it caught Ethan's scent. And its mouth...its mouth was a jagged maw filled with misshapen teeth that protruded at odd angles, giving it a perpetual, horrifying snarl.
As Ethan watched in mute horror, the creature began to change before his eyes. Its body convulsed and twitched, bones snapping and reshaping beneath its skin. Flesh rippled and bulged as muscles grew and shifted, and the sickening sound of tearing skin filled the air as the beast's form stretched and contorted into something even more monstrous.
The creature's arms elongated into long, spindly limbs that ended in gnarled, clawed hands, almost human in appearance but tipped with wickedly sharp talons. Its legs grew more powerful, more canine, with digitigrade feet that looked capable of propelling it forward with terrifying speed and agility.
And through it all, the creature's eyes never left Ethan's, burning with a malevolent intelligence that spoke of a human mind trapped within a monstrous form.
Ethan sat frozen, his mind reeling with the sheer wrongness of the thing before him. This was no animal, no mere beast. It was an abomination, a perversion of nature itself.
Then suddenly the creature threw back its head and let out a howl that shook Ethan to his very core – a sound of pure, unleashed bloodlust and fury. Then, with a speed that defied belief, it lunged forward, its jaws snapping and its claws outstretched.
Ethan barely had time to react, throwing the car into reverse and slamming on the gas. The tires screeched as he careened backwards, desperate to put distance between himself and the nightmare made flesh. In the rearview mirror, he caught a glimpse of the creature bounding after him, its powerful legs eating up the ground with terrifying speed.
Ethan's hands shook as he fumbled for the radio, his voice cracking as he called for backup. He knew how it would sound, knew the disbelief and terror his words would inspire. But he had no choice. The people of Willowbrook were in mortal danger, and it was his sworn duty to protect them.
Even if it meant facing down a monster straight out of humanity's darkest nightmares.
As he waited for his deputies to arrive, Ethan's mind raced with questions. What was this creature? Where had it come from? And most importantly...how could they hope to stop it?
He didn't have the answers. But one thing was clear.
The hunt was on.
And this time, the prey was a twisted fusion of man and beast, a creature of fang and claw and insatiable hunger.
Ethan took a deep breath, his hand tightening on his gun. He didn't know what horrors the coming days would bring, what nightmares they would have to confront.
But he knew one thing.
He would not rest until the streets of Willowbrook were safe once more.
Until the creature lay dead at his feet, and the long night of terror was finally over.
No matter the cost, he would see this through to the bitter end.
For the sake of his town, his people.
And for the memory of all those lost to the beast's savage hunger.
