Hi all,
I am a CS graduate student at Dalhousie University. After going on many different dates since high school, swiping millions of times on dating apps, and seeing my 30s approaching, I decided to make an attempt to make choosing a life partner easier for myself and others. For this task, I need your help. I have created very simple and short questions that are in this Google Form. These questions are most relevant factors to finding a life partner. I need just 10-15 minutes of your time so that I can train my Machine Learning model on the data from your survey. This survey does not ask for your name, email and does not ask you to login before submission.

2024.05.21 18:55 frognuggies my associates in christ i need help - accessing success factors from home

okay so, i spoke with my ARM about being trained as a service leader, right? we've got some spots open, yk how it goes, anyway she said I could! but she also said i needed to apply for the position via successfactors. heres the thing though:
i have no idea how to get onto successfactors from home. someone linked the login page on this subreddit, but it wouldnt let me log in. i dont think the email we're given for successfactors works on the associate login page on that hannaford website either (and even then, is that the same thing?)
i'd ask for clarification but I don't go into work until saturday and i'd like to get this squared away asap. if any of you guys have had to do something similar, i'd greatly appreciate literally any help with this. even if its just telling me i was a clown and misunderstood my ARM

2024.05.21 16:22 firebird8541154 Thoughts on a new Cycling App I'm developing?

I'm reaching out because I'm looking for some validation for this idea I've been building a proof of concept of.
A little about me to set some context, I, along with my roommates, make free cycling related tools in our spare time, including a routing tool, https://sherpa-map.com, a physics simulator tool for cycling, https://sherpa-map.com/cycling-route-calculator.html, and a GPX activity racer tool https://sherpa-map.com/activity-racer.html .
I've made a few others as well, but this post isn't about that, I just wanted to showcase the fact that I can build the upcoming idea, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to develop it for anyone else.
The idea:
A phone app that lets users import a route GPX file and/or start an activity. The app is designed to work entirely offline, in your pocket, without much of a GUI, providing voiced turn-by-turn directions if following a route.
While you are riding, it allows you to ask questions or give commands into your Bluetooth headset, like, "What's the distance until the next aid station?", "Route me back to the beginning on the flattest possible route.", "What's my best 20-minute normalized power so far?", "What's my current distance?", "What's my net elevation gain?", "What mile has the beginning of the biggest climb on the route?".
Utilizing the physics simulator code and your riding so far, it could even determine when you'll be where, so you can ask, "How much longer until I'm back on pavement?", "When should I start heading back to avoid the sun going down when cycling?".
I also plan on having it continuously monitor and analyze your ride, so if you finish a climb it can recognize this and state "Nice job! You managed 340 watts for 3 minutes up the last 300ft climb!".
Basically, the idea is, that this could replace your head unit (or accompany it nicely).
I even intend it to have rerouting capabilities, i.e. "take me to the nearest gas station".
So far, I've managed to develop a functioning Android app that works entirely offline, monitoring for speech using webRTCVAD, recording speech to memory, transcribing speech using a specially trained Mozilla Deepspeech model, on the phone, tokenizing the transcription with a WordPeice algorithm, and feeding it to a specially trained BERT Tensorflow model which maps your intent to a particular function.
I plan on developing this app no matter what for my purposes as I feel having practically limitless knowledge of the entire route, and the activity thus far, as well as voiced turn-by-turn directions that function entirely offline could help me with upcoming gravel races. However, if people find this concept interesting, I'd buy a MacBook to make an IOS version and flesh out the interface to be more user-friendly and have things like, a login, a connect with Strava feature, etc.

2024.05.21 15:30 idahhan 1 Week in Peru (May 2024)

1 Week in Peru (May 2024)
Trip Report in May: Lima, Cusco, Pisac, Machu Picchu
  • We went on May 12th 2024.
  • We don't speak Spanish but learned basic words to come by.
  • I suggest you get some Sol currency from your home country before arriving. We took 400 Sol with us.
  • I saw some posts suggesting BCP ATM to get cash, I would recommend against it. We used Cajero Banco de la Nacion ATM and we were not charged extra fees (although limit is 400 Sol).
  • You can use credit card in most restaurants in Lima, Cusco, Pisac an Machu Picchu.
Lima:
  • We bought SIM card in Lima airport from Peru SIM before leaving the free zone. Only passport required. 80 Sol for 5Gb/1week. I suggest you get more than 5G if you are going to browse the internet during your trip.
How to recharge Peru SIM:
  1. Install Mi Cuy App
  2. Choose "Peru SIM" from multiple choice question in the beginning.
  3. Use phone number to login and your passport number as password.
  4. Personally, none of my cards worked to recharge the SIM, I tried both Visa & Master Card).
  5. There is an option to recharge but texting a WhatsApp number were they send someone to you to recharge it but I didn't explore that option.
  • Stayed: 1.5 days (2 days ideal).
  • We used Uber in Lima with no issues.
  • We stayed in Miraflores, I would have stayed in Barranco but there were more options in Miraflores.
  • Explored: Miraflores, Barranco, Centro HistĂłrico.
  • Before booking a restaurant check their opening hours. A lot of restaurants allow reservations half an before closing which can be frustrating.
  • Tips: Book restaurants in advance, locals dine around noon. Tried: Isolina (100 Sol/person, good vibe, food okay) and Al Toke Pez (30 Sol/person, not worth >30 min wait). Other recommended spots: Jose Antonio, Cerveceria Del Valle Sagrado, Don Fernando Restaurant, La Petite France, Central, La Mar, Maido, Osaka.
  • Bars: La Noche De Barranco, Juanito De Barranco.
  • Walk/Visit:
    • Miraflores: If the sky is clear, go to Parque Del Amor and walk on Mal. Cisneros.
    • Barranco: Walk on Av. Almte. Miguel towards Parroquia La Santisima Cruz, Bajada De Baños, Bridge of Sighs, C. La Ermita, Biblioteca Municipal, Museo Pedro De Osma.
    • Centro: St. Martin Square, Jiron de la Union, Lima Main Square, Basilica & Convent of San Francisco, Mercado Central & Chinatown, Larco Museum.
Cusco:
  • Stayed: 3 days (2 days for altitude acclimation).
  • We used Uber in Lima with no issues.
  • Some recommend you go directly from Cusco airport to Ollantaytambo (2 hours drive) to acclimate better to altitude, we didn't do that.
  • Regardless how many days you are planning to stay, if you are visiting museums in cusco or planning to visit Archaeological sites. Consider buying "Tourist tickets" in cash at some sites entrances or in Cusco from "Boleto TurĂstico Cusco" Av. El Sol 103, Cusco 08002 ,Peru), I added table below but for more or updated details check here
  • YOU CAN NOT get Tourist tickets from "COSITUC CENTRAL OFFICE" outside the Centro area. It's just management office.
CUSCO TOURIST TICKETS AS OF MAY 2024
  • To acclimate to the elevation, consider the following tips: drink coca tea, avoid alcohol, eat light meals, and rest for the first two days.
  • I took half a 25mg "Acetazolamide" pill from a pharmacy in Lima twice a day without consulting a doctor, but you should consult a doctor before doing so. Stay hydrated, and expect more frequent visits to the washroom due to the medication.
  • Stayed: Airbnb near San Blas Market (east part quieter).
  • Walk/Visit:
    • Explore San Blas Market square, walk east until the end of C. Carmen Alto, then walk up and take a right on C. Tandapata, then up on C. Pasñapakana to reach San Blas Viewpoint (great at sunset). LIMBUS RestoBar looks cool.
    • Explore the city center: Plaza Mayor de Cusco, Museo de Arte Religioso, Museo de Sitio Qorikancha, Plazoleta Espinar, Plaza Regocijo, San Pedro Market.
  • Best prices for souvenirs I found are on C. Hatunrumiyoc & open market in Plaza Regocijo.
  • Shopping: None of the shops have unique merchandise. Compare prices at multiple places, especially shops outside busy zones and away from the Marriott.
  • I doubt that any pure Alpaca wool is sold in these shops, so price items based on their quality and softness unless you are certain it's pure Alpaca.
For food spots, I recommend:
  • Pachapapa for dinner (better call and reserve if you're arriving after 7 PM).
  • Sepia Cusco for a nice lunch (they have a great courtyard).
  • Qura for breakfast or lunch.
  • I heard Pizza is very good in Cusco, so you should try it.
  • I liked Alpaca meat more than Cuy.
Pisac trip:
  • To enter Pisac Archaeological site you need to buy a Tourist ticket circuit 3 which cost 70 Sol/Person. You can buy it in cash at the site entrance or in Cusco from "Boleto TurĂstico Cusco" at Av. El Sol 103, Cusco 08002 ,Peru more details here here
  • We only visited Pisac from towns around Cusco to hike down from the Archaeological site, which takes about 2 hours. Our trip was short, and we wanted to focus on this hike.
  • If I had another day, I would have also done the Rainbow Mountain hike. For Rainbow Mountain, consider staying in Tinki the night before to start the hike early, as it gets cloudy later. Tinki is 2.5 hours from Cusco.
  • Most agencies offer group trips for around $50 USD/person and private trips for $120/person. We didn't want to visit multiple towns, so we hired an Uber driver (outside Uber) with a good car for 200 Sol for the whole trip (Cusco-Pisac and back), which was cheaper than any agency. We left at 7:30 am and returned by 2 pm. We took food and water to avoid stops on the way to Pisac except for view points of the sacred valley.
  • A cheaper alternative is taking a public colectivo from 28 Puputi St in Cusco to Pisac, then a taxi from Pisac town to the top of the Archaeological site (25 Sol one way). Some posts said taking Collective can be dangerous so avoid this if you are not an experienced traveler.
  • The hike itself is great. Although the car takes you to the top, you still need to climb for about 15 minutes before heading down. The altitude can be challenging, so take your time.
Machu Picchu
Booking Machu Picchu site tickets
  • Which ticket to buy for Machu Picchu? If you just want to visit the site choose " Circuit 1,2 + Inca bridge" or "Circuit 1,2".
  • Circuit 1 is half circuit 2. Take circuit 2 unless you physically can't take around 50 stairs.
  • You have to provide passport number when you book the ticket. They will check your passport when you arrive at the site.
  • We bought Circuit 1,2 + Inca bridge ticket two months before the trip. You can try to book it directly from the government website Gov website but we couldn't find available tickets "Cerrado" there so we bought it from the Joinn us site which worked the same for the same price
  • Don't believe posts that say Joinn Us is a scam. They say that because they have not received the tickets in the email. This is because tickets are not sent to you by email. It would be available on the site on side menu under "tickets" or "Mis entradas". You can download the tickets from Joinnus site.
  • If you are not able to buy Machu Picchu tickets online, you have to be in Agaus Calientes the morning before your visit to buy the tickets.
  • You don't need to print your tickets.
Booking a ride to Machu Picchu:
To arrive to Machu Picchu from Cusco you need to:
  1. Take a bus from Cusco to the train station as no trains leave from Cusco center (Except one, see below).
  2. Take train a to Aguas Calientes.
  3. Take a Bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu site OR hike up dusty mountain road for 2 hours swarmed by buses with no much room.
Steps 1 & 2 are included in train tickets from Peru Rail or Inca Rail. A few things to note:
  • The main difference between Inca Rail and Peru Rail is step 1. Inca Rail provides a bus ride from Cusco to Ollantaytambo (2 hours + traffic), then a train to Aguas Calientes (1h 40min). They ensure you reach Aguas Calientes, so no need to worry about connections.
IncaRail
  • Peru Rail offers a bus ride from Cusco to Poroy station (30 min) and then a train to Machu Picchu or from San Pedro (5 min) in Cusco center.
PeruRail
  • We chose Inca Rail's "The Voyager Bimodal - light" option, which includes a bus ride from Cusco to Ollantaytambo and then a train to Aguas Calientes in the lowest-cost cabin. The 2-hour bus ride was pleasant, and the cabin quality was good. Paying extra for the 1h 40min train ride isn’t necessary. If I had known about Peru Rail's San Pedro departure, I would have chosen that.
  • Arrive at the station half an hour before boarding. Our Inca Rail bus left early to beat traffic as everyone was present.
For Step 3: Bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu
  • Only one bus service runs frequently, about every 5 minutes.
  • Tickets can be bought in person, where you'll need to stand in line, or online at Consettur.
  • We bought tickets online to avoid lines, which weren't bad during our visit on May 16th.
  • The round trip costs $24. I don’t recommend hiking up the mountain.
Note: According to EyeWitness: Peru travel book, there’s a cheaper way to get to Machu Picchu if you're on a strict budget. You can take a bus from Cusco to the Hydroelectric station and walk for 3 hours beside the railway tracks to Machu Picchu.
What time is best to visit Machu Picchu
  • If you are doing circuit 2 (which you should as it's the longest hike in Machu Picchu) Temple of the Sun is only open between 1PM-4PM. Temple of the Condor 10am-1PM, Pyramid del Intiwatana 7am -10am.
  • We didn't have a preference, but because we left Cusco at 8:30 am, we arrived Machu Picchu at 1PM. We took the 2PM time slot as we wanted to leave the next morning. No regrets.
  • We didn't hire a guide (you don't need to hire a guide regardless of what other posts say). There are three things you need to know: 1) Follow signs for Circuito 2. 2) Make sure you don’t take the “platforma inferior” turning that happens 250m into the walk. Take "Platforma Superior". 3) If you bought the Inca Bridge ticket, know where to turn to see it. I found this travel blog helpful blog.
  • I used google to read about the different sites.
Aguas Calientes
  • We stayed at Gringo Bill's Hotel. It was decent, but I’d avoid hotels on the main streets due to noise. I didn’t like Aguas Calientes much (we stayed one night). If I had more time, I would have planned a same-day return trip to Ollantaytambo.
  • Some posts mention the hot springs in Aguas Calientes, "Baños Termales (Machu Picchu)." It's more like a public bath and not really worth it, but the hike there is nice.
  • Be cautious with food in Aguas. Many highly-rated restaurants are actually bad. I met a cook who worked there and got the inside scoop. Stick to safe food—avoid raw food and fish, and ask for well-cooked meat, especially burgers. Check the lowest and most recent reviews on Google.
  • We ate at Ponchos, and it tasted good without making us sick. However, we had pizza at Pueblo Viejo, and I’ve had better frozen pizza.
After Aguas Calientes, we took the train and bus back to Cusco, then flew to Lima the same day. Flights from Cusco to Lima are often delayed, so check your flight history if you're on a tight schedule. We left for Lima Airport on a Sunday morning, and the roads leading to the highway were blocked, taking an extra hour to reach the airport.
Overall, it was an amazing trip. Next time, I would stay for two weeks and follow the EyeWitness: Peru travel book's two-week itinerary. I would also definitely do the Salkantay hike.

2024.05.21 13:33 MiseryLovesShotguns Am I insane or is my job a dumpster fire?

For a company that makes robots, we sure have a lot of tech problems and strange policies. Let's start with punching in since it's the first thing I'm supposed to do; I can't login to the website that records my time without doing an email verification first. "One-time passcode" that's actually every time. That's not once a week, that's every time I punch in or out.
We had an engineer walk because they wouldn't give him a 20% pay increase to match an offer he was given elsewhere and as a result, scrapped a $4 MILLION DOLLAR project! I should clarify because it's worse than that actually; that's just $4 MILLION in parts that we either scrapped or are paying a warehouse to store. Why did that happen? Well, we have no written SOPs on any of our job roles all the way down to shipping and receiving where I work. We have a QA guy who denounces technology to the point that he has a flip phone in 2024 and has been caught stealing but THEY CAN'T FIRE HIM BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE KNOWS HOW TO DO HIS JOB! Our CEO looks like a comic book villain too. It feels more like the premise for a tech-centric mocumentary sitcom than reality but this is my life.
We're years behind in fulfilling orders too by the way. My computer froze for a minute and had my post to the "hate my job" subreddit stuck on my screen as I was complaining about our tech haha. I found that really amusing so I thought I'd share lol. Train wreck or not, I plan to enjoy the show and ride this out as long as I can because 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday is a great schedule!

2024.05.21 12:19 diminishing_fractals Offer me perspective

My 11 year old is a very tricky customer. She has a lot of struggles with her ADHD and seems to display a lot of BPD traits. Life has been so hard for her, and us.
She has done a lot of really wild stuff online, because at the start I didn’t have a belief in locking stuff down. With her older brothers I told them they couldn’t unsee what they saw online so to think carefully. As they grew into teens we discussed porn and healthier more empowered ways to view (user uploaded on reddit etc) and the issues of getting too hooked into it. They are really well adjusted and responsible young men.
My daughter is a completely different kettle of fish. She looked up porn at an early age and hid it from us. I have so much guilt about that happening. We tried to introduce social media in a way that allowed her to interact with her peers and be part of the gang, but she met other young girls who were into self harm and lots of negative stuff and this severely impacted her.
Against my better judgment I installed controls via apple, but it was glitchy and ineffective. I always believed that if kids want to access anything they will find a way and she has certainly proven that - starting secret accounts on other devices, using her friends’ devices to login to snap and tik tok - of course she has.
In the end I got our pact because I wanted her to be able to access socials but only on an agreed schedule. I didn’t want her hiding and sneaking. It has been pretty good but she continues to do wild things like download sketchy apps (unsure how but she got past our pact and downloaded an app called ‘freak’ and was talking to literal pedos).
We had 6 weeks totally off all screens and honestly it was amazing for her but she became super isolated from all her friends, and as we have has school refusal issues I was worried being so cut off would start all that up again. She actually chose to stay off for that time before going back on.
Unfortunately she has started nicking off on trains and shoplifting- I noticed on snap map she was on a train and then she wagged school so it all came out.
She’s honestly a beautiful kid just struggles so hard and doesn’t know why she does this stuff. I looked at our pact screen recording and their ultra tracking software - it just feels absolutely gross and big brother-ish to me. I hate the idea of it but I am also so worried about her.
We talked about the screen recording and of course she felt that was so invasive - I said if this dishonesty and sneaking continues I’ll probably have to.
Can young people here offer me perspective. Am I making a mistake wanting her to maintain some contact with socials and her peers? Or am I being a total dickhead by not just completely switching off her access?
I know it’s reddit. But some gentleness would be appreciated because this is honestly so hard and scary. I just want her to be safe and ok

BAORUI Reveals Telecom Scam Schemes: Safeguard Your Call Security

2024.05.21 06:42 HippieInDisguise2_0 Would a web development cert from UC Berkeley help me pivot to full-stack web development?

Hey everyone!
My experience has been for the last year in project management but I desperately want to be a dev. My job isn't letting me get back into development (I was a data analyst originally.)
I do have personal projects: - A linktree type site with auth, mongodb in React TS (users can create accounts, login, create pages, setup redirects with NFC chips) - A super hacky clan website for Clash of Clans (farmersmingle.net it uses a basic ETL pipeline running on GCP with a Vue frontend.) - A personal portfolio website
Question:
Will a UC Berkeley extension cert in web dev help me round out my web skills? I have programming fundamentals down, I can use SQL, use SSH, bash scripting, understand Linux terminal, I can write assembly and understand computer architecture to some degree. My primary languages are Python which I used a lot on data analysis (pandas, PySpark) and Java from my BS in CS and job training from my first year.
However my weakness is being intimidated by the massive amount of libraries and abstraction in web dev. Since I don't have the time or discipline to learn on my own (I've tried udemy, tutorials etc but can only create basic crapola) will this help me?
Thanks!
EDIT: I just read that the Berkeley extension sucks butt. Maybe a different program? I just want some structure and guidance and a community to help me hone skills in a specific discipline of development.

2024.05.21 06:21 Patient-Fly9676 Types of Cyber Attacks Commonly Used By Hackers

Cyber attacks are malicious activities carried out by individuals or groups to compromise, steal, or destroy data. Here are some of the most common types of cyber attacks used by hackers today:

1. Phishing Attacks

Phishing involves tricking individuals into providing sensitive information by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in electronic communications. - How it Works: Attackers send emails or messages that appear to be from legitimate sources, urging recipients to click on malicious links or download infected attachments. - Impact: Compromised personal information, financial loss, and unauthorized access to accounts.

2. Malware Attacks

Malware, or malicious software, is designed to damage, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to computer systems. - Types of Malware: - Viruses: Attach themselves to clean files and spread throughout a system. - Worms: Spread through networks by exploiting vulnerabilities. - Trojans: Disguise themselves as legitimate software. - Ransomware: Encrypts data and demands payment for decryption keys. - Impact: Data theft, system damage, financial loss, and operational disruption.

3. Denial-of-Service (DoS) Attacks

A DoS attack aims to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users. - How it Works: Attackers flood a target with excessive traffic, overwhelming the system and preventing legitimate access. - Distributed DoS (DDoS): Uses multiple compromised systems to launch the attack, increasing its scale and impact. - Impact: Downtime, loss of revenue, and reputational damage.

4. Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) Attacks

MitM attacks involve an attacker intercepting and altering communications between two parties without their knowledge. - How it Works: The attacker positions themselves between the sender and receiver, capturing and possibly modifying the data being transmitted. - Impact: Data theft, eavesdropping, and unauthorized transactions.

5. SQL Injection Attacks

SQL injection involves inserting malicious SQL queries into input fields to manipulate databases. - How it Works: Attackers exploit vulnerabilities in web applications by entering malicious SQL code into input fields (such as login forms). - Impact: Unauthorized access to sensitive data, database manipulation, and data breaches.

6. Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Attacks

XSS attacks involve injecting malicious scripts into webpages viewed by other users. - How it Works: Attackers insert malicious JavaScript into web applications, which then execute in the browsers of users who visit the affected pages. - Impact: Data theft, session hijacking, and spreading malware.

7. Password Attacks

Password attacks aim to obtain a user’s password, allowing unauthorized access to systems. - Types of Password Attacks: - Brute Force: Systematically trying all possible combinations until the correct one is found. - Dictionary Attack: Using a list of common passwords. - Password Spraying: Using a few common passwords against many accounts. - Impact: Unauthorized access to accounts and systems, data theft, and further attacks.

8. Insider Threats

Insider threats come from individuals within the organization who have access to sensitive information. - How it Works: Insiders misuse their access to steal, leak, or damage information. - Impact: Data breaches, financial loss, and damage to reputation.

9. Zero-Day Exploits

Zero-day exploits target vulnerabilities in software that are unknown to the vendor. - How it Works: Attackers exploit these vulnerabilities before developers have a chance to patch them. - Impact: Unauthorized access, data theft, and system compromise.

10. Social Engineering

Social engineering manipulates individuals into divulging confidential information or performing actions beneficial to the attacker. - Types of Social Engineering: - Pretexting: Creating a fabricated scenario to steal information. - Baiting: Offering something enticing to trick victims into revealing information. - Tailgating: Following someone into a restricted area without proper authentication. - Impact: Data theft, unauthorized access, and compromised security.
Understanding these common types of cyber attacks is crucial for implementing effective security measures and protecting sensitive information from malicious actors. Regular training, robust security protocols, and staying informed about new threats are key to safeguarding against these attacks.

2024.05.21 00:54 mundivagantorca Can we talk about this update..

This update makes me sad. I worked hard to unlock those train stations and firepits and now I have to pay to use them with not just coin, but orbs too :(
I also worked hard to earn coin to unlock all those storage upgrades for my backpack and I feel like we should get our coin back or something. If developers decide to remove paying for fast travel, we should also get our coin and orb back from having to pay.
I will add, on a positive note, I like the extra daily quests, login rewards and love letter event!

2024.05.20 22:37 Low-Cardiologist4373 My future father in law brought up wedding plans at the day of my father's funeral

My father passed away last August (2023) and my then fiance (now husband) and parents came with me to Canada for my father's funeral. The same date of my father's funeral, my future in law (now FIL) has brought up wedding plans to my mom when we were at my childhood house in the evening. I looked down and I said "dad would have wanted me to have a small wedding and save money for a down payment on a house". I was in tears at this point. My husband's father got up and said to my mother "sometimes me and Natalie clash, this is one of those times and I have to leave now". So my husband''s parents left and I spent the night crying. When my husband (then fiance) and I returned home a couple of days later, my husband's mom said that her husband (my FIL) was so angry that he was cussing out and discussing if they have a connection with me. Then my husband's mom said to me two days after my dad's funeral that she doesn't feel a connection with me. After that, I was done with planning a wedding and my mom didn't have the energy to continue either. The family dog unexpectedly passed away in October 2023 and that's how my husband and I got our wish of a small wedding in January 2024. The only apology I got is "I am sorry if I upset you". I am culturally Polish and while I do eat North American food, it's usually low sodium, lower fat and sugar because my father had kidney disease and needed a specialized diet so we all supported him like that. I also have to medically be on a specialized diet. My in laws are obese and eat things that I am not used to or cannot eat. Some of the things I do eat in small amounts. My husband really enjoys culturally blending and making healthy foods too. This situation occured one month after my father's death. My MIL made soup from Costco rotisserie chicken (I already think it's too salty), she asked me on text what I think of it. I said it was too salty and she said to add some water. I told her it was better. I put lemon thyme in it that I grew from my garden. Aftery husband and I come from the local farmers market, my MIL asked about the soup. I said, perhaps it's the way I grew up eating but I think it still salty. My FIL asked about my uncle and aunt (who are local to the area) if they want to come to the house, I said "usually when my husband and I make plans it's last minute but this should be okay. Sure" I go upstairs to pee. My husband's dad said to my husband "why can't I get a straight answer out of her? I am so nice to her. Start to notice. If I was shit talked, you would defend me right?". I had a mental breakdown and needed to see a doctor and therapy. Then I listened to the whole conversation about me, it was heavy criticisms about me to my husband and how I took care of the family dog. The family dog had behavioral issues I took responsibility of further training. We learned later that he had an undiagnosed tumor that was possibly the cause or a factor in his behavior issues. He was a 100 pound saint Bernard poodle mix. My mom thought that the "start to notice" was an attempt to divide my husband and I so when I have a valid criticism of my in-laws, my husband would become defensive and create a division. That happened in September 2023, the family dog passed away in October 2023. My husband and I got married in January 2024 in a small wedding. Now, the in laws are planning a bigger wedding part on their dime in June 2024 for the people they wanted to invite to the small wedding. So for June 2024, I created an e-invite on canvas and my FIL asked for my login information 3 times so he can create the RSVP on Canvas. I explained what Canvas is and that people can order physical prints or screenshot to email their intended guests. He didn't like that so he looked for another software that has the RSVP, did his own invite. I said that canvas was recommended to me by my sister who was a photographer. So since we all live in the same house while my husband and I are saving for a house, I am forced to have a relationship with them. How do I manage this? Any tips?

2024.05.20 21:19 applesuperfan Feature Requests: Standardised Billing Cycles, Multi-Tenant Account Expansion, and New Dashboard Features.

Billing:
I'd love to see US Mobile adopt or start offering anniversary-day billing cycles so that plans renew on the same day every month. I know 30 day plan expirations is traditionally standard for the prepaid wireless industry and is certainly still common, but it is slowly on the way out with providers like Visible (and Helium, not that they're a precedent-setter, but you get the point) billing on your anniversary day instead of every 30 days. Unless I'm an anomaly, I'd imagine a good majority of people prefer it that way. Having your plan bill on a different day depending on the month is confusing and inconvenient at least, and at worst, a logistics issue for customers who have need to map their transaction dates quite closely.
US Mobile has massively bolstered its offerings in the past couple years and introduced premium features that properly rival the good aspects of the postpaid experience while still offering the freedom from bullshit customers love from prepaid. I feel that standardising billing cycles will be more convenient and even necessarily beneficial for many and will make the experience just a little bit nicer for people who value consistency. It would be nice to also be able to change your billing cycle. Although this would be nice to be able to do online, this isn't something I imagine people would (or should) be doing with any kind of frequency, so requiring a customer service contact for this particular action would be fine if not better.
Multi-Tenancy Expansion:
I think a lot of US Mobile customers bring our family and friends to US Mobile and I'm sure some of us end up assuming the family technical officer role, so being able to access multiple accounts with a single login would be great! Right now, there is a multi-tenancy User Management feature that lets account owners add secondary users onto their accounts, but each user needs to create a new login on usmobile.com using a new email just for that account. Adding the ability for one login to access multiple accounts would be amazing, so that with a single login, a user can access their own account and also be able to see any other accounts they may be viewers or authorised users on.
In my ideal world, I'd love for such a feature to work in two ways on the website, so users can choose: Either (a) have US Mobile show you a list of all your accounts each time you login so you can choose the one you're trying to manage or (b) set a default account for your login that loads automatically upon every login, with an account switcher in the menu bar that lets you move to a different account if you need to. It would be nice for users to be able to control which behaviour they would prefer in a profile section. For the app specifically, I'd probably nix option a since I don't think most people would want to pick an account every single time on an app, but they'd still be able to switch between accounts during an app session using the menu bar.
Dashboard Features:
Also, please consider not training reps to ask questions like "May I know why you are leaving us? 😱" when customers reach out to get their porting info. It doesn't come across very professionally and puts customers between an emotional rock and hard place where they feel like they have to feel bad for something that's just business. I think a more effective approach can be twofold, looking more like this: (1) have reps respond with something like, "We know it's important to LOVE your carrier and we want to make sure we're doing everything we can to make your experience awesome! While I'm processing your request on my end here, if you have any feedback you'd like to share with us, please don't hesitate to let me know!" And (2) sending a post port-out email with a link to a survey that customers can take to answer questions and share their feedback about the US Mobile experience. I think an approach like this will come across more genuine and feel less like an emotional pressure to avoid having you port out, thus incentivising customers to want to share genuine feedback that can help prevent customers from leaving in the future. Like the rest of this post, this is just my opinion, so obviously do with it what you please.
I apologise if there's any duplicate suggestions that have already been addressed before (I checked the sub to try and avoid that). I know this is a super long post with a ton of ideas, so thank you to the US Mobile team for considering any of these and to anyone who took the time to read this freaking essay of a post lol.

Simple as that. I normally semi afk train while at school and never had a issue. Today I come they changed the wifi/password and it won't let me login to character but I can login to the account. 2024.05.20 08:40 Odd-Recognition-2606 Fellas, What Gacha Game Has The Best Loading Music and Title Screen?

This is a fun question because most of the time spent actually on all the gachas I play is usually burned on loading in the games, and it is such a hassle sometimes. However, the music gacha games have more than make up for it, so I would like to know what gacha game has your favourite loading music and title screens! Also, some games have kickass loading animations! Here are my rankings out of all the gachas I play right now.
  1. Goddess of Victory: Nikke. Favourite music because it is so melancholic, and encapdulates the story of the game perfectly. Very emotional and amazinf. Rapi on the title also looks sick with the small movements. Came for the Nikkes, left with this game's soundtrack and story.
  2. Blue Archive. Funny enough, I started Blue Archive yesterday. I have become SO axquainted to the loading screen because of rerolls. Not only did I absolutely fall in love with the LoFi beats it pumps out, but the animation is amazing, and I especially like how it cycles through the pictures.Swimsuit Hanako rerun when?? If someone can answer that for me too that would be fire lol.
  3. Mega Man X Dive. Specifically the Global. Since global came out, they added Crystal Snail's theme as the loadijg screen and it is such a good track, especially updated to modern music styles, and the remix of Mega Man X's title screen is actually so fire. Also, while the title isn't animated, it looks absolutely stunning, with RiCo pulling off such an amazing lead.
  4. Honkai Star Rail. The first gacha I played. The train looks AMAZING, and the song gets stuck in my head a lot. It sounds so sad but hopeful at the same
  5. Project Sekai. Being a rhythm gacha, it makes sense the music for the title screen is fun and great. The title screen looks alright as well. 6.Sword Art Online: Integral Factor. The title screen looks amazing with Asuna and female deuteragonist, and even though it's unrelated, bonus points for the login being exactly the same as thr NerveGear login in the anime. Song is pretty fire too.
  6. If I recall correctly, Bandori. The music is alright for it being a rhythm game, and I like the neat touch of editing the title screen based on the current event or banner taking place.
  7. Genshin Impact. Definitely a good loading screen, but I personally prefer the others above it. The music isn't as emotionally effective on me, ans the animation looks amazing, but it just doesn't click as much with me.

2024.05.20 07:07 Patchpelt2 How can I fix things?

My girlfriend and I were dating for about 9 months. she was my everything, she supported me, she
always wanted to know what I was doing and she truly cared for me. I also truly care for her. I love
her. and I pushed that all away.
A few months ago I was considering breaking up with her for some time with myself because my uncle
had just passed away. i pushed her away when she tried to help me, and I honestly hate myself for
that. we broke up for a day or two when it suddenly hit me that I missed her, so I called her up asking
her to forgive me. she reluctantly said yes but only if I never do something like that ever again. I
promised I wouldn't...
We got into an argument about a week ago and it was not a very nice one. I told her I didn't love her
anymore, which is obviously not true. I'm still not sure why I said that. Anyways, she and I decided to
break up mutually, and we thought this time it was the end. I especially did because she didn't care as
much afterwards and I knew I had hurt her. Im ashamed.

Everything was fine, I was sad, sure, but I was starting to talk to new people, I guess as a cope.
Yesterday at about 8PM I was compelled to login to her snap and see what was going on because I
was very bored. I had her snap credentials forever, since we started dating, and so I fired it up and the
anguish I felt was unimaginable. She had told another guy she loved him, and how they wanted to
fuck and all that. "So soon? maybe its a cope?" I thought. But it wasn't just any guy, it was her insane
manipulative ex boyfriend. he is possibly the most manipulative person Ive met in a while, he can
spin any situation into one where he reassures you and comforts you and relates to you... its honestly
terrifying. I broke down and called her because I loved her and I needed her, and she sat there while I
broke tf down and cried and cried and cried, a feeling in my chest so painful I don't even know how to
describe it. I finally understood how she felt, how much she cared about me, it hit me like a train. she
loved me. but I'm not sure if she does anymore. we had a long conversation about it today and she
said she isn't sure she can forgive me. Hell, if someone made me feel this way I wouldn't forgive them
either. I don't know what I should do, because she said she still loves me, but she also loves him. She
said we can see about things in a month, and to give her time. I guess what hurts the most is that I
read every single thing she said after saying he was just a friend and I shouldn't worry about him
Can I fix this situation at all, or is it too late and I should just never allow myself to fall in love again?

2024.05.19 18:11 authorsheart Entitled Employee Likes to Gift Trash (Part 2)

So, here is part 2 of my entitled employee story. We left off with discovering Sally’s retaliation of giving me trash as a Christmas gift after her latest write-up.
So, the next several weeks, I am noticing more problems, but here’s some of the highlights.
  1. Ever since we had issues of the office’s checks going randomly missing, Sally had apparently decided to just stop throwing any envelope away when opening the mail. She would supposedly search the envelopes/paperwork & then keep the envelopes with the paperwork. So, instead of doing her job better, she would decide to just stop doing the job at all. After all, you can’t get in trouble for screwing it up if you aren’t doing it, right? However, this resulted in items getting left with the paperwork (which sometimes wouldn’t get touched for several weeks due to being busy) that had needed to be collected or addressed right away.
  2. Sally’s careless mistakes continued at about the same rate (average of 2 to 3 a week). She would put deposit slips/emails with the wrong office’s report, put one office’s mail in another office’s bin, put one office’s funding papers in another office’s bin, put one office’s bills in the folder for their correspondence & vice versa, put one office’s bills in the folder for another office’s bills, put the new month’s bills in the folder without taking out the old month’s bills so they would get mixed up. I could go on & on.
  3. Sally would still ask for help on things she shouldn’t need help on anymore, ‘cause I had helped her many times on items exactly like it in the 2 years she’s worked here. I mean, the whole point of asking for help when learning new things on a job is so you can take the input you’re given & use it to get better at the job so you don’t have to ask for help anymore. I mean, what kind of office works by their employees constantly needing to be walked through everything every day? Sally would even ask for help on things no one would need to ask for help on. For example, she asked me, “An office took a deposit to the bank without showing it on their report. How do I write that up in the letter to fax to them?” Um, exactly what you just said to me. Or another time, she asks how long she should wait before calling an office back. Well, how long do you think you should give them? Just use your good judgment. You don’t need help with that! Again, you’ve been here 2 years!
On Jan 26, I take the Dec bills, correspondence faxes, & timesheets out of their folders to scan them into the computer. Now, one thing the bills should always have on them are the check number used to pay for this purchase & the date it was paid. The offices themselves are supposed to write this on there, but they don’t always, which is why it is our job to write it on there if it’s missing. I had noticed when I scanned Nov’s bills around Nov 30 that a lot of Sally’s offices don’t have that info written on them. So, I explained to her what needed to be written on every bill/receipt. I now flip through the Dec & Jan bills of her offices really quick to check them. There are quite a few of them with no info written down on them. There’s strike one for noncompliance.
Another task we would do several days a week (that’s Sally’s responsibility) is to check the bank accounts online. She is to look at the bank balances & report any low balances to Greg (or me if Greg isn’t there). She is then to look at the transactions in order to see if anything looks fraudulent. Since we are a loan company, check fraud is very common for us. So, we look at the checks for anything funny-looking, & we look to see if there are any auto debits (like when you use your bank account online to pay for a bill) that would tell us if someone got hold of our bank account info.
On Jan 30, at 1:15 p.m., I asked if any of the bank balances were low (Greg was out of town for a few days). Sally said she had forgotten to check the bank accounts that morning. Weird, ‘cause you had to check the Dallas office to make sure the money we sent them had shown up. How did you get the login sheet out to look in their bank account but then forget about checking all the bank accounts? This just further cemented in my mind that she was NOT checking these bank accounts the way she should. I was 100% positive that all she does when logging into these bank accounts is checking the balances to give to Greg but then never checks the transactions. I know this ‘cause, 1) I’ve observed Sally only logging in to write down the balances & then logging back out (she had some flimsy excuse ready when I asked her about it), 2) there have been auto debits that appeared in bank accounts that we didn’t find for weeks until I happened to see it for some reason & guess what? She never pointed those out to us, & 3) Sally hadn’t bothered to check the bank account balances since Greg was out of town, so clearly she only felt the need to check the balances. There’s strike two for noncompliance.
& even more bad mistakes or decisions:
  1. At the end of Jan, we discovered that Sally had mailed the employees’ W2s to the managers’ home addresses instead of to the offices to distribute to their employees!
  2. We had an office that moved locations to right across the street, so the only thing that changed in their address was their street number (12 Main Street instead of 11 Main Street). I explained this to Sally & gave her an updated list of the office’s addresses. 3 weeks later, we get a call from that office saying that mail we send to them keeps going to their landlord’s house. I check the address labels Sally had created for herself. Sure enough, it had the wrong address on them. I go to grab the lease, & at the top is where the tenant’s new address is listed. & all the way at the bottom of the page in the paragraph titled “RENT” where it lists where to send the rent is the landlord’s home address. & that’s the address Sally had chosen to be the new office’s address on her address labels.
  3. Sally hadn’t been faxing the offices to ask for bills/receipts that never made it to us.
  4. I used the last towel on a roll of paper towels, so I went to the cabinets to grab another. We were out. Sally is in charge of keeping track of supplies that need ordering, so I go to Sally & say we’re completely out of paper towels, we need to order some. Sally response: “No one ever tells me when they grab the last roll so I know when to order them.” Um, excuse me, since when is it our job to tell you to do your job? It’s your responsibility to keep track of supplies. You should be checking the level of paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc., to see when you need to order them.
So, I knew she needed a second warning write up for carelessness cause of the numerous mistakes since the first warning write up in the middle of Dec, & I would be giving Sally a first warning write up for negligence cause of her not asking the offices for missing bills & not writing the info on the bills I had told her to do at the end of Nov. However, it was only a few days from Feb, which was the time for performance reviews. So, rather than doing a write up now & then in a week or so doing a performance review that was one of the worst performance reviews I’ve ever heard of, I decided to just do it in one fell swoop. You know, just get it all out of the way with one bad conversation, one bad day, & then both of us can hopefully put it behind us & move on.
I decided to do the performance review & write ups on Feb 5 (Monday). It went much smoother ‘cause Greg was there, so Sally couldn’t really give me lip or lash out by showing attitude & anger like she had previously.
On Feb 7 (Wednesday), I log in to get the transactions for an office who is switching banks. I wanted to get an updated list of outstanding checks so they know how many checks are left before they can close the old bank account. & what do I see? Someone had used the bank account to pay $100 on their AT&T bill. I call the office & find out it was actually them, so no fraud there. But I then ask Sally if she had seen that when checking the bank accounts. She said she didn’t remember. Obviously, I have found my proof that she is either not checking them or isn’t paying attention when she does. I have a discussion with Greg about it, & we decide I need to have a sit down with her about her not doing her job. She is sick on Thursday, so I plan to talk with her the next day she comes in.
On Feb 9 (Friday), I begin the conversation about checking the bank accounts & how important it is. I am planning to say things like, we expect you to do this job, you’ve been told multiple times to do this task, if you’re not going to do the job, then you’re welcome to go find another one, etc. But she cuts me off at the beginning with an excuse of, “Well, I didn’t know what I should be looking for, now I know.” & it broke me. She does this exact thing every time I have to have a conversation with her. She has an excuse ready to go on the tip of her tongue, always spins it around so it’s not actually her fault. It’s always, “Well, I didn’t know that, but now, I do.” & I was just done. I didn’t continue the conversation, even though I needed to, ‘cause I just broke down in tears from the stress of having to discipline her & knowing that nothing will ever come of it, but having our hands legally tied to be able to fire her right now. I cried nonstop for over 4 hours.
On Feb 12 (Monday), I sat down to continue the conversation, this time with a written statement for her to sign.
Me: You respond a lot of the time that you don’t know how to do things, which is very frustrating, ‘cause you’ve been shown multiple times how to do these tasks. It’s very inefficient & wasteful that I have to constantly check all of your work & retrain you on the same thing over & over again. This needs to change. This job is about accuracy & accountability.
Sally: You’re not giving me a chance to improve. I never hear “Good job,” from you. All I ever hear is, “You’re doing a bad job, sign this paper.” I get in trouble every time I ask for help, so I guess I’ll just follow the instructions & hope I’m doing it right.
The problems with that response:
  1. You’ve worked here for 2 years, Sally. You’ve had plenty of time to improve.
  2. The reason you never hear “Good job” is ‘cause you’re not doing a good job. How am I supposed to tell you “Good job,” but also need to give you a write up for doing a bad job? If you’re getting multiple write ups for doing a bad job, don’t you think that’s a sign that something is wrong? I mean, she thinks that managers should be telling their employees good job on everything they do right. No, you’re expected to do these tasks. We’re not going to congratulate you every time you do your basic job requirements like some toddler that needs constant positive reinforcement so they know that doing something right is a good thing! You will hear “Good job” when you are doing a really good job on something, when you go above & beyond!! I mean, do you think Greg tells me “Good job” when I’m just doing my job as expected?!! NO!!! I’ve never had a manager constantly tell me “Good job” all the time!!!! (Whew. Sorry about that. Kinda went on a crazy rant there. I’m good now.)
  3. Here’s another example of her mentality of “if I don’t do the job, I can’t get in trouble for doing it wrong.” She’s going to stop asking for help instead of using the help I’ve given her to do better. I mean, if you’re making these mistakes when you ARE asking for help, how many more are you going to make when you stop asking for help? How does this make any logical sense?!
Well, here’s another chance for some malicious compliance. She claimed she didn’t know how to check the bank accounts, right? Well, my job as the manager is to make sure my employees know how to do their job. So, I need to sit down with her & train her how to check the bank accounts. Again. Even though I know she already knows how to do it. So, every time you tell me that the reason why you didn’t do a job is ‘cause you didn’t know how to do it right, well, we’re going to sit down & waste both our times & annoy you having to be retrained on something you do, in fact, know how to do.
Sally continues making careless mistakes & not doing stuff she doesn’t think she should have to do. Like answering the phones. It’s her job to answer the phones; that’s something I as the manager should be delegating to her. However, she never answers the phone unless I literally can’t. So, I had asked her to start answering the phone more. She will wait until the last possible second before answering the phone. By that time, it’s already rung twice, so I have to answer it before it goes on any longer or they hang up. One time, we were both away from our desks when the phone rang. We both went to answer it, but she was closer & got to her desk before me, put her hand on the phone, & watched me until I got to my desk before she picked it up. With a comment of, “Oh, (laughs) I didn’t want to make you walk all the way to your desk.” Well, you did, anyway, you little jerk.
On Feb 27, Sally asks for help on a report. She says that my note stating the office is over-deposited $28 on report 1 but fixed on report 2 by being $28 under-deposited didn’t work out. She says that they were never over by $28 in the first place. I take the report to look it over. Her calculator tape adding up the deposits shows the bank is in balance, but I don’t see deposit slips.
Me: Where are the deposit slips?
Sally: I haven’t gotten them yet.
Me: (trying to comprehend her logic) Then how do you have the deposit amounts added on this tape?
Sally: I got the amounts from the report.
Me: You
(my brain trying not to implode at this point) you can’t add up amounts to see if the bank has too much or too little money in it without knowing what was actually taken to the bank. The amounts on the report don’t always equal what was taken to the bank.
I log into the bank account & discover just that: the report says they took $500 to the bank, but their deposit says $528. They were indeed $28 over-deposited. I then lecture her (for the second time in a few months) on the correct way to account for the deposits at the bank, that we are only to use the dollar amounts on the bank’s deposit receipt. (The first time was her getting the deposit amount from what was written on the deposit slip instead of what the bank gave us credit for on their printed receipt. The bank had shorted us $500, & we never knew until her deposits didn’t work out when reconciling the bank statement at the end of the month. We were missing $500 for 4 weeks! It’s a miracle we didn’t overdraw the account.)
Another task that we do several days a week is checking the CFPB website. This is a government website that uses federal regulations to monitor financial institutions. It’s like the Better Business Bureau, but more official. Customers can make complaints through them, prompting an investigation to make sure we’re following the federal guidelines. We have 2 weeks to respond to a complaint before it is past due.
On Feb 29, Greg just happens to be looking at an email inbox that he never checks, ‘cause after all, we’re checking the CFPB website, so he doesn’t have to look there, right? There is a complaint in 2 of the portals that have been in there since Jan 22. He immediately marches out & tells Sally about them.
Greg: Aren’t you checking the CFPB sites?
Sally: Yeah, I am.
Really? Then how come you didn’t print this complaint off to give to Greg in the last 6 weeks? She came back from lunch to a second warning write up given by me for negligence.
On Mar 5 (Tuesday), we are working on reconciling the bank statements so we can close the month of Feb. Sally brings me a Jan bank statement for an office.
Sally: This never cleared in Feb.
I look at the bank statement. It’s an electronic deposit of $254 on Jan 31. I remember this. She had asked me at the beginning of Feb why this deposit wasn’t recorded on the office’s report. I explained that since it didn’t show up in the bank account until the last day of Jan, they might not have known about it before the end of the month & so recorded it on the first of Feb. We will wait until the first report of Feb. If it’s still not recorded, then we’ll bring that to the office’s attention. & here she is, clearly telling me she hadn’t brought it to anyone’s attention all month long.
Me: (staring at the bank statement as I try to prevent my autistic brain from exploding at her while also trying to prevent a spontaneous stroke) You didn’t keep track of this all month?
Sally: Well, I didn’t know if it was treated differently ‘cause it was OTBP (One Time Bill Pay, which is the electronic deposit). (Oh, what a shocker, she once again didn’t know how to do something.)
Me: But we talked about this. If it wasn’t on the first of the month, we needed to address it.
Sally: Okay, well, now I know that we treat this the same as other deposits. (goes nonchalantly back to her desk like it was no big deal, like she hadn’t just revealed she had once again disobeyed my detailed instructions)
Me: (seeing her flagrant disregard for the seriousness of the situation & wondering just how on earth she could once again think that not doing her job would have no consequences) This is exactly what Greg talks about over & over, about how we can’t leave errors like this to sit for weeks & weeks, that these need to be dealt with as they happen.
Sally: (still as easy-going as if she had simply used the wrong color highlighter) Okay, I’ll make note of that.
Now, I am getting really pissed off. She keeps saying, “Oh, now I know that OTBP is treated the same as everything else.” That doesn’t matter! It doesn’t matter that you didn’t know it’s treated the same! I specifically told you to take care of it if it didn’t appear on the first of Feb! It didn’t matter what kind of deposit it was! I said to tell me if it wasn’t on the first of Feb!
Now, this was right before she leaves at 3:30, so by the time I’m finished with my text conversation with Greg (‘cause he isn’t there that afternoon), she has already left. But I’m telling Greg that I have once again caught her being negligent, & she’s already had 2 written warnings about this, which means our next step is letting her go. Not to mention, her carelessness is still continuing. He said that he supports my decision to let her go. By the way, the final decision happened an hour after she left. If I had known before she left that we were indeed going to fire her, I would have done it before she left so she didn’t have to come all the way to work in the morning just to leave again.
So, on Mar 6 (Wednesday), I arrive early to work so I can be prepared. I am standing at my desk, watching her come in. This is unusual, so she frowns as she approaches me.
Me: Sally, we need to talk.
Sally: (still frowns at me)
Me: (handing her the typed up notice) We are going to read this together. “When reconciling the month of Jan, around Feb 5, it was brought to my attention that we had a deposit that hadn’t been reconciled. I gave you instructions to wait a report to see if it works out. If not, you would need to bring it to mine & the office’s attention for further instructions. This wasn’t done. It wasn’t until Mar 5 that you brought this to my attention again. You have been told many times the importance of reconciling the financials of the office. You have been warned several times of negligence. This is another example of negligence with respect to your job. All you had to do was follow my instructions. It is for this reason that it is now time to terminate your employment.”
Sally: When did you tell me to do this?
Me: (thinking, “Um, I kinda just told you when I told you do that, but, okay.”) When you showed me the Jan bank statement—
Sally: Yesterday?!
Me: You showed me the Jan bank statement a month ago when you were reconciling Jan. I told you to wait for the first of Feb & then—
Sally: You did no such thing!
Me: Yes, I did, Sally.
Sally: When does Greg get here?
Me: Around 9, like usual.
Sally: I’m calling him, ‘cause this is ridiculous. You’ve had it out for me from the very beginning.
Me: No, I haven’t.
Sally: Yeah, you have. Just like the other 2. (sets her bags at the front door, goes outside, & calls Greg)
  1. How could I have had it out for you from the very beginning when we didn’t have problems for the first year & a half you worked here? If I’d had it out for you from the beginning, you wouldn’t have had a job the past 6 months. Need I remind you what Greg told you about the timesheet thing being something we fire someone for on the spot, but that Molly had gone to bat for you & gave you a second chance? Why would I have done that if I had wanted you gone from the start?
  2. “Just like the other 2.” She’s talking about Irene (who had left in Feb 2023) & another employee (who we’ll call Phil). Phil had been fired (by Greg, by the way) for continuing to watch movies on his phone at his desk despite being told multiple times by Greg to not do that. & Irene? She wasn’t fired. She gave her 2 weeks’ notice. & we then discovered when going through the work she’s been doing as we started taking over her tasks that she didn’t just not do jobs. She would actually forge the work so she wouldn’t have to work. “A bank imbalance of $2.65? Well, I’ll just add it to the imbalance that’s been building up for who knows how many months & just label it as an over-deposit from the end of the month. That way, I don’t have to look into why the bank isn’t balancing.” But no, I had it out for them, apparently.
  3. Does she really think that calling Greg was gonna reverse my firing her? Does she really think I would do something as drastic as writing her up or firing her without discussing it with my supervisor first? Did she really think I would do this behind his back?
Apparently, she did, ‘cause Greg confirmed that Sally tried telling him about all the stuff I’ve been doing to her as if he didn’t know. She hung up on him when he explained that he’s been told everything as it happens & he supports this decision.
Sally: (storming back into the office & towards her desk) I’m not signing anything.
Me: Ok.
Sally begins packing up her desk. I had known she kept a lot of personal items at the office, so I had gotten a big box or 2 out & placed them nearby for her to use to pack up her desk.
Me: We can give you a box if you need it.
Sally: I don’t need sh** from you guys.
Me: The only thing we’ll need is your office key.
Sally: You’ll get it when you get it. I’m packing my desk.
Me: Ok.
I go back to work, keeping an eye on her as she packs to make sure she doesn’t take anything she’s not supposed to or damage any company property. Sally at some point decides to use the boxes she didn’t want from us to pack up her many items. She takes both boxes to the front door where her bags are & sets them down to put the last of her things in. She picks up one box to take outside.
Sally: You are the worst manager ever. (goes out the door)
Me: (shrug)
Sally: (comes back in for the final box) Seriously, you’re the most evil person I’ve ever met. (leaves)
Really? I rank worse than the guy that beat you up? I’m worse than him?
I continued watching her to see if she’s going to come back to give up her office key. As she packed up her car, another employee had arrived (we’ll call him Randy). He had run into her on the way in & asks me if Sally quit. I explained, no, she was let go. I then see that Sally has gotten behind the wheel of her car without coming back to give us the office key.
Me: Well, I guess we’ll just change the locks.
Randy then takes it upon himself to go out to her car. He phrased it very gently by saying he wanted to spare her having to come back in to turn the key in.
Sally: I guess Molly didn’t have the balls to do it herself. (hands the key over)
& then
she was gone. Despite having to do the entire corporate office’s work all by myself & falling steadily behind little by little, I have never been more happy. I had forgotten how much I loved my job & how much I couldn’t wait to get to work. I haven’t been this stress-free in 6 months, & it feels fantastic! & the great part is, I’m not really falling as far behind as I expected to without her. Having to do 2 people’s jobs by myself is only affecting me a little. Really goes to show you how bad she was for the company & for my job when she disrupted everything that much. For example, me & her would get through maybe 5 to 6 offices’ reports between us in a single day when playing catch up after closing the previous month. One day? I caught up on 10 offices’ reports in a single day. By myself.
Oh, did I mention she smoked marijuana most days on her way to work or while on her lunch break? We could never actually prove it. But, come on, you don’t smell that strongly of marijuana on only select days if you aren’t smoking it recently. If it was leftover from the smell of your house or car, you would smell like that every day. But it was only some days she would come into work or back from lunch smelling like that. Obviously, smoking on the job. So very glad to be rid of her & her awful skunk smell. Although, I do wish her well on a new job search. I don’t wish ill on anyone, ever. But I am just glad she’s no longer my problem to deal with.
(Added 2 months after she was fired): By the way, I am actually gaining on my work. I’m not only not behind on my work, I’m actually getting it done soon enough to work on extra stuff. Also, out of the blue, we’ve started getting about 3 to 4 sales & scam calls every day since Sally left (for things like better Medicare benefits, better retirement benefits, & even one time recently where “Walgreens” was calling to ask if I still had diabetes). I’m convinced Sally signed us up for calls as retaliation. I hope they die down soon, especially as they are starting to get rude. (Our response to every one of these is “Sorry, this is a business.” This one guy responded to me with, “This is my job.” I said, “I understand this is your job, but this is a business. I am not allowed to take personal calls.” He said, “Why?” I said very slowly & firmly, “Because I’m working!” He started to say, “Can you explain to me why—” I hung up. Jerk.)
