2020.06.25 23:25 SensitiveBorder2 Swollenlymphnodes

THIS GROUP IS PRIMARILY FOR CHRONICALLY ENLARGED LYMPH NODES WITH NO CAUSE FOUND Most everyone here has had lymph nodes swell up and never fully return to their original size. A lot of us panicked and seen nothing but cancer stories until finding so many others who simply had nodes pop up and stay that way and this community is hopefully going to be a place to calm the anxieties of many and for us to discuss our experiences with swollen nodes that stayed there forever.

2024.05.21 13:47 Remember_Padraig partial thyroidectomy being scheduled "this summer", anxious about having cancer inside me for that long

We discovered the nodules last year during the fall. Doctor disagreed with my ENT and wanted me to get a second opinion from a thyroid surgeon, who waited a month before doing a second biopsy.
She tells me that I will be contacted "sometime this summer" to do the surgery. But that feels like a long way off, even for a slow growing cancer.
I've had swollen lymph nodes for a long time now, though they apparently look harmless on ultrasound. Also have a chronic hoarse voice which my ENT thought were the nodules, but my surgeon says there is no sign that the cancer has spread to the throat and the nodules arent big enough to be affecting my voice.
Both my doctor and surgeon seem unconcerned, but I keep thinking of my ENT who wanted me to get the surgery done as quickly as possible.
Will I really be okay waiting that long?

Right side of my face and neck is swollen
Hello Everyone! I hope you all are having a great Tuesday morning because I am not, actually since last night I had a slightly swollen neck, and this morning I woke up looking like this!
Will give a little background to help understanding how I got here, last week I had a very bad cold, fever, sneezing, sore throat and the hole package of cold symptoms…
I am a 420 user on a daily basis, but in small portions… its been six months I stopped smoking and chose healthier ways to get high, like gummies or vaporing flower (not vape pen) the reason I chose that was because my throat and neck was getting swollen.. (since I stopped smoking my throat and neck got back to normal size)
Yesterday morning I was feeling great, recovering from last week cold, my voice was coming back and I was having way less symptoms, I decided to vaporize just a little bit of flowers to give me some a better energy as I was going to meet some family members.. it did help me with my voice and throat pain which is crazy but vaping flowers is way less harsh..
At night I got some leftovers from my family member I met who ate at Carmines restaurant (their foods are amazing by the way!) and also ate some more food I cooked for me and my husband, oh I also tried a new Heinz catchup with Habanero just a tiny bit because Im not a spicy food fan..
After 30 minutes from trying it I started feeling this discomfort from my face and neck, but it wasn’t swollen yet, just could feel my heartbeat on my face… fews hours I noticed the swollen..
Im counting the minutes to get 9/10am so I can my ENT doctor to schedule an appointment and I will also run a full blood test, because on my google search the results as USUAL were catastrophic lol 😩 it went a food allergy to HIV infection… as you noticed I am gay and I am not on Prep (because I am allergic to TRUVADA and I am waiting on the list to try a different version of Prep)
Based on your experience, what this could be? Right now I took a Benadryl and I am hoping for the best and hoping that its just an allergic reaction or Sinusitis… but it’s scary! I never experienced something like this… only when I had my wisdom teeth removed (I removed 4 at once so I didn’t have to deal with the pain twice) and that was expected, but now I dont have any pain, I just had my tooth cleaned last week before the cold started so teeth problem is out of question as a symptom..
Can anyone help me calm myself down? Im writing this post shaking.. I already dont see myself on the mirror as a handsome person because of bullys back in school but my therapist always told me if you have a symmetrical face or as closest as possible to that means people might find you attractive and I based myself care on that since I heard that, now this messes entirely with my symmetry and makes me looks like Shrek 😩 of course my look is the least of my problems at this moment but I want my normal face back 😞
HELP’
And Thank You for stopping by and read this post ❤️

2024.05.21 13:21 BenightedLight Post Fever, Inflammation, Pain, and Rashes After Appendectomy

My fiancé had an emergency appendectomy about 4 weeks ago. The surgery went well, and the appendix did not burst during or before removal. Prior to the surgery, the CT also showed he had an unobstructed kidney stone and an unobstructed gallstone. The surgeon offered to remove the gallbladder too (in case there would be issues later) but he declined, as unnecessary gallbladder removal can cause a lot of complications (I myself have some of those, as does my brother. Surgeon said these complications are about 1 in 3 patients. His gallbladder has never bothered him, so why roll the dice?)
He was really sore after surgery but was doing better each day and on track for recovery. He went back to work after 2 weeks. His job is more physical and requires walking several miles, so post-pain we initially chalked up to all the walking. At about 3.5 weeks, the pain got much worse, and he was in as much pain as he had been after the end of week 1. The pain was on his left lower abdomen/side, and the pain stretched toward his belly button. They had gone in laparoscopically on that side, so figured it was his incisions bothering him.
His incisions all looked good and still do. No redness, drainage, etc. Then he spiked a fever of almost 103. We went to the ER and they saw in his chart that he had had an unobstructed gallstone. The ER team focused on that gallbladder hard and was trying to get him to have it removed before they even got any testing back. They did a blood panel (his WBC count was a little elevated, but nothing insane), an x-ray, a CT, a urine test, and an ultrasound. They lied and told him they did Murphy's Test on him and that his gallbladder had thickening walls and was inflamed. But they never did the Murphy's Test and he has and had no pain in that area. They really scared us, saying he could die etc. In the end, they called another surgeon to look at the scans and they said to cut us loose if he wasn't having pain. They gave him no antibiotics and just told him to follow up with his doctor.
He called the surgeon that had done the surgery and the surgeon said he did not see any wall thickening or inflammation in the scans. He said the gallbladder looked like it had before his surgery. He also said the CT did not show any abscesses or infections. So on top of everything else, we feel like the ER scared us for...What exactly? Money from an unnecessary surgery?
Over the weekend, his pain worsened, and he kept teetering between elevated and low-grade fever. He has been very constipated. His pain also began to stretch lower into his pelvis, and now into his balls. He seems to have some sort of lump on his pelvis - I'm not sure if its a lymph node or what it is.
He went in to see his primary care doctor yesterday who ordered more blood tests and then scheduled an ultra sound for today. His blood tests were pretty normal, except for a 13.1 mg/L high sensitivity CRP. Today, he also now has a rash developing on his arms and legs. We're just really worried and have no idea what is going on. Has anyone else experienced something like this or have any ideas?

2024.05.21 12:01 samroath I can feel an inguinal lymph node and get right abdomen pain when running

25F, no medications except the combined oral contraceptive.
I’ve been running casually for about 4 years but for the past week or so I’ve had to stop minutes in because I’ve gotten a pain in my right abdomen. At first I put it down to being a side stitch but I think the pain is a bit different to that, a little more of a dull pain than the shooting pain of a side stitch. I don’t feel any pain apart from when I start running, and I do also regularly lift weights at the gym and get no issues there.
I got a little concerned that I may have a sports hernia from either lifting or running, and felt around the groin area for a lump and ended up noticing that I could feel what must be an inguinal lymph node. It’s very small, fairly hard (at least enough to be noticeable) and not painful. I can only feel it when pressing into the groin area.
I’m feeling a little confused and unsure if I should see a doctor or not as the internet is a bit conflicting regarding whether it’s normal to feel a lymph node like this. Could the swollen lymph node be a symptom of some sort of hernia (likely a sports hernia as I can’t feel any lump) or is this completely unrelated? What should I do, if anything?

2024.05.21 11:44 parisienne-walkways [Acne] Questions about lymphatic drainage massage + lymphatic acne?

The lymph node on the left side of my neck swells up to the size of a golf ball. It’s hard, painful and swells up when I eat. I first noticed this in August 2022 and have been to the doctor a few times. I was told that it was just a swollen lymph node, nothing cancerous that they could find on the ultrasound. When my lymph node starts to swell, my acne flares up, especially alongside my jaw and the bottom half of my face in general. I think this could be the cause of my acne as my skin doesn’t respond to medication so I always had a feeling it was internal. Has anybody experienced this, and what came out of it?
Also, I’m not sure if this is a silly question but does doing lymphatic massages trigger saliva glands to produce more saliva? I guess what I’m asking is, how do I know if I’m doing it correctly?

2024.05.21 10:59 to__0 carotid artery aneurysm

My son is 5 years old I noticed one side (right) of his tonsil was swollen back in august since then it has grown and now both are swollen but right side it still more swollen then the other.. he has his molars growing in and the right cheek got swollen (the dentist said it’s normal for his cheek to swell). The dr says his tonsils are probably just allergies and seen normal “ most kids have inlarged tonsils” he says. The symptoms I’ve noticed: snoring, and he says it’s a bit hard to swallow that he has a lot of saliva and feels a click when he swallows sometimes.. he also has swollen lymph nodes and complained twice that he had side neck pain and a headache but went away. Any ideas? Am I over thinking everything. I also noticed his neck pulsing a lot at night

2024.05.21 09:43 to__0 Pulse neck

Pulse in neck normal? I know it should just mean hearts pumping but just looked so intense. He has swollen tonsils that the dr says is fine and swollen lymph nodes that he says he wouldn’t worry about. The dr says that a lot of kids have inlarged tonsils. He also complains of a clicking feeling sometimes when he swallows . Any thoughts is this connected maybe?

2024.05.21 07:44 Remote_Match_6280 28F Swollen tongue

Swollen tongue with cold symptoms
28F, 5’8”, 145lbs. Never smoked, no drinking or drugs.
UCTD (treated as lupus) Selective IGM deficiency. daily medications: plaquenil, Keflex, and adderall.
Hi! I’m having a bit of a panic because my frequent common cold has come with a fun new symptom: swollen, sore tongue.
I catch a cold once a month, maybe every 2 months. And it’s always pretty standard. Sore throat, cough, insanely runny nose, high fever, malaise, headache. Dayquill and 2 days off takes care of me.
I started getting my normal symptoms yesterday morning, and by last night it was full blown. This morning however, I noticed my tongue doesn’t fit in my teeth anymore. Ive trained myself to rest my tongue in my lower jaw because I have an overbite and I don’t want to make it worse. But today my tongue doesn’t fit in either my upper or lower jaw. Also, the sides are very sore, like when you eat too much sour candy. It isn’t causing any difficulty breathing but i literally can’t close my teeth and it’s exacerbated my sore, dry throat.
I’ve been taking dayquill and added in naproxen when the fever stopped declining (highest has been 103.1 and won’t go lower than 101) I took a Zyrtec when it was suggested by the minute clinic that the tongue thing could be an unrelated allergy; but it hasn’t gotten any better.
I tested negative for strep, flu, and Covid.
I had an uncomplicated wisdom tooth removal 4 days ago; and have had no pain, swelling, bleeding, or sign of infection since. But I wanted to add in case that’s relevant.

2024.05.21 07:41 elizabethC94 Long Term Mold Exposure

Hello,
My husband and I are first time renters, we stared renting from his dad's landlord back in July of 2021. When we first moved in, the lease he provided for us to sign wasn't very "official", it was just something for HIM to hold onto for the first year and then we went monthly. We asked for a copy and never received one. He's one of those independent landlords that kind of does the bare minimum on everything, doesn't document, and mainly collects cash for rent unless he's away in Florida.
My husband and I noticed some mold not long after moving in, it was on the bathroom ceiling in the corner over the tub. As he met with the landlord for rent the next time, he mentioned it to him or which the landlord responded "just paint over it with Killz" and that was it. We didn't think much of it, I guess because we just didn't know enough. We also couldn't move due to it being cheaper than what was being expected from other landlords or management properties, in our minds this was a deal, its a house and it's one we could afford.
Fast forward to January of this year, I start getting weird scalp symptoms and it was terrifying. March rolls around and I start having elevated blood pressure, mind you, my blood pressure was always 120/80 and my health has always been in good condition. My BP started running up to 200/140 (highest it got up to at one point) but never really stayed below 150/100. My temp remained elevated and also would be too low, and my scalp was swollen/tight. I went to the ER three times for these symptoms, I was diagnosed with Bronchitis with unknown organisms, an inflamed lymph node condition (unsure what it was called), and recently diagnosed with IBS per my gastro.
We just realized the scope of how big this problem is, my husband was renovating the bathroom and found that there's severe water damage, he didn the kitchen as well and also noticed water damage, and found a roof leak behind a wall. There's also a spot in the corner of the living room ceiling that had water damage to the point where the ceiling was crumpled and hard there, once it completely crumpled, it exposed a hole in the ceiling leading into the attic. The house also has a crawl space/basement area that will hold water when the drain is clogged up, he's mentioned this to the landlord as well when we noticed that was an issue and he disregarded. Husband took pictures of the floor underneath as there's no subflooring, the hardwood leads right to downstairs.
We started connecting the dots literally two days ago, my symptoms are worsening, my eye is swollen and there's discharge coming from it, I already alerted my pcp, my breathing has been shallow, headaches like crazy, I get spontaneous moments throughout the day where I HAVE to catch my breath, my head and scalp are swollen, hair thinning, rash on my body, face and body are swollen, I feel awful, cant aleep half the time, foggy brain, I can't remember the most basic words or lose track of my thought process, im just miserable.
We're in the process of moving as we speak, I would like to pursue a lawsuit, but one issue is that the communication of there being mold was verbal, so no documentation. We DO know for a fact that this isn't his only house that has mold, my husband did some work on another one of his tenants houses and saw an extensive amount of mold, he told him and it was disregarded as well. I have documented all my symptoms from the day I first started noticing them along with any remedies and appointments I've had because of this. I also have pictures showing the changes this has made, such as the hair thinning, swelling, changes in my facial shape, etc. I know it's hard to pursue a lawsuit due to mold, but I want to pursue for negligence, damages to my property, and medical issues/bills. Do we have a chance?

2024.05.21 06:53 anewstartforu My first big breast cancer scare here we go...

I knew it would happen at some point, but the timing actually could not be worse, lol. I suppose there's never a good time. Some backstory: I'm 38 y/o F with a very prevalent family history of aggressive cancer (breast, colon, cervical, skin). I had a very large fibroid removed when I was 19. Was no big deal and very clearly a fibroid. I'm generally pretty healthy despite previous diagnoses of lupus and scleroderma (not showing symptoms). Anyhow, I've been feeling pretty rough these last few months. Lethargy, just feeling off, dizzy, high blood pressure, swelling in fingers, and my intuition has been screaming that something isn't right. You just know when something is off. I really thought it was my ADHD medication, so my MD and I made the decision to take me off of it.
Now... I started having big time night sweats about a month ago. Also, chills during the day without fever. A couple of weeks ago, I had my arms up brushing my hair and noticed that my left underarm looked swollen. I palpated and felt no pain, lumps, or discomfort. Didn't really give it much thought after that. Flash forward to last Friday. I was having a terrible health day. I'm just feeling really off for no reason. I crawled into bed and rolled over to my left side only to feel the most intense pain shoot from my nipple up into my collar bone and back into my shoulder blade. I palpated around my nipple and there it was... A hard, grape sized lump.
It doesn't move at all. It literally feels anchored to my nipple and I can feel it pulling down on it. It's like it just suddenly popped up. I hadn't had any pain at all prior. In hindsight, I have had some itching there for a few months. My first thought was a clogged duct or a cyst, so I wasn't worried. I woke up this morning, and it's tripled in size, I now have a dimple just under my nipple and it's trying to invert. I have a massive vein bulging into it as well that I've certainly never seen before. The lymph nodes in my armpit are swollen and so so painful. I literally couldn't even wear a bra to work today. It just feels like a 24/7 titty twister. I work for a husband and wife MD who consulted with me regarding this, and they seemed pretty concerned. I called the breast center, and they were also very concerned. They have me coming in Wednesday for imaging (ultrasound and MRI), then results Thursday with probable mammo.
I have a long history of pretty extreme health anxiety, so my head is absolutely spinning right now. Still no fever or other signs of infection. I'm hoping it's something simple as it's happening so quickly, but everyone is taking it pretty seriously. Let's hope it's nothing cause ain't nobody got time for this shit.

2024.05.21 03:50 coochie_chronicles Recurring lymph node swelling

Hello! New to this sub. I’m wondering if I might have some sort of autoimmune disorder. Lymph nodes in my neck swell about once a month (with pain), which I typically attribute to working with kids (they’re always sick). Occasionally I’ll get a positive strep test but lately it’s been coming back negative. Other random symptoms that have never been attributed to anything include palpitations, lightheadedness, and canker sores. My mom has 2 autoimmune diseases - colitis and takayasus arteritis. My grandma has rheumatoid arthritis and my cousin has lupus. Latest autoimmune panel came back clear. Going to doctor tomorrow. Any advice or insight is appreciated!

2024.05.21 03:06 RePsychological Request for Advice: Cutting back symptoms?

Hey guys.
Been trying to find answers about this around online, but keep find articles upon articles of quitting cold turkey. However, for almost the past two weeks I've been taking a slower approach to quitting, and am being anxious about it due to random symptoms.
Quick backstory:
Past few months, was eyeing finally quitting. Been vaping for about 3 years, and noticed I had gotten to the point where I was taking a puff literally every 5-10 minutes...too easy access to just snatch it while gaming, mindlessly puffing away. Was going through 80%-100% of a Vuze pod every day on average, and that trend lasted about 6 months.
Couple weeks ago I had a somewhat related event that led to me pulling the trigger. It was slightly unrelated, but gave me the "dang...I need to ditch that too." motivation. Basically long story short, got ahold of a bad delta8 pen, and it spiraled into horrendous symptoms for two days that almost landed me in the ER. BUT the symptoms gave me anxiety about nicotine vape too, so I figured "alright...it's time. It all goes, before you end up going instead."
But I was afraid of going cold turkey, so instead I've been doing a heavy weening.
I went from the above 80-100% of a vuze pod, down to now about 20% of a pod per day on average. Today was even less...woke up this morning with only about 10% of the pod remaining, and it's still got a few drops in it after a full day.
So overall still motivated. Figure after this week, I'm going to try the cold turkey route. At that point I would be having so little per day that it'd be moot to continue it.
However what worries me:
I've got a doctor's appointment to go over this stuff too, so don't think I'm trying to WebMD this...but it would be helpful to get some personal stories too, if anyone else has experienced this.
My biggest worry at this point is "Am I quitting too late? Is something majorly wrong with me and what I felt a couple weeks ago that started this whole thing wasn't a delta8 pen, but rather something more serious like cancer or vape-related lung injuries?"
I've also got other possible causes in mind that I'm trying to either support theory on or eliminate. I moved back into my mother's place in September to help her after my dad passed away. There's some mold in the house that we are cleaning out, so I fear exposure to that could be a cause. Then also this is my first Spring living here in over 8 years. So I also wonder if these symptoms could be me readjusting the pollen here. I also drastically cut back on drinking over the past month...went from being able to have a full bottle of sake or wine any given night to now I won't drink anything over the level of a hard seltzer.
So basically I got slapped with "Too many variables changed, and too many possible unknown variables in the mix, and now I'm wondering if something's actually wrong with me, or it's just things to push through."
Symptoms that I have been feeling:
The weird thing about all of the above is that they're being random day-to-day. Either I wake up perfectly fine and have a great day. OR all of the above hits me at once and then disappears again the next day. There doesn't seem to be much "in between."
Overall, though, none of this is stopping me from quitting... I know anxiety is part of "the experience" of quitting, so I've been careful about not letting it convince me to reset. If anything it's spurred more motivation, because I'm never letting a chemical have this level of a hold again. Thankfully, although as you can see anxiety is getting channeled into the above, mood hasn't shifted much in terms of everything else. I've had moments of depression, but not much out of the normal, and the anxiety seems to be more focused on helping me quit rather than convincing me to puff more. But it would be nice if the anxiety would stop trying to convince me that I'm dying, hence me wanting to just gather more info that I'm not finding online.
In advance though, thank you, and I look forward to hearing about anyone else who's experienced the above, and if you know of any remedies that'd be greatly appreciated. Feels good to be finally kicking this after having stupidly picked it up 3 years ago.

2024.05.21 02:53 d4h-lia i don’t have mono. i’m really disappointed.

there is something seriously wrong with me. i have many of the symptoms. severe fatigue, headaches, nausea, swollen lymph nodes under my arms…but i got tested and it was negative.
i know there’s something wrong with me. this is not fucking normal. i have many other symptoms that i’ve written off for one reason or another that i’m now learning could be signs of cancer. so i’m alarmed. i got blood work done today and they’ll call with results tomorrow. but i’m betting they’ll find that everything is normal.
i don’t know what to do. i have no fucking money. i can’t afford much. i wanted to be told that i have mono because it at least would’ve been a fucking answer. i could’ve at least said “okay, so that’s why i’ve been feeling worse lately.” i know it wouldn’t explain why i’ve felt this way for as long as i have, but it would explain why i feel WORSE.
but i don’t have mono. i don’t have answers. i have nothing, except for symptoms.

2024.05.21 02:32 lainey68 Extreme fatigue and headache weeks after bug/spider bite

Reposting since my previous post got deleted.
I am a 56 y/o female, 5'4", 215 lbs. I have a history of anaphylactic allergies, asthma, eczema, diabetes, cluster migraines. I'm currently taking Mounjaro (7.5), Lisinopril, and Tresiba.
I was on vacation in OBX, NC the last week in April. On our last day there I woke up with what I thought were two bug or spider bites. One on my left forearm and the in between my knuckles on my right hand. The areas were really swollen and itchy but I figured that was normal for insect bites.
I was super tired when I returned home, but it was a 4 hour drive. Over the next few days I was still really fatigued. I would come home from work and go to bed. Wake up after a couple hours and go back to sleep.
Along with the fatigue, I noticed the bites didn't go down right away. They stayed swollen and super itchy for almost two weeks, and I still have marks where the bites were. Just as I thought maybe I should get them looked at, the swelling went down. I'm not sure what could have bitten me. Perhaps midges?
In the meantime, I started getting bad headaches. As I said, I have a history of migraines and clusters. I just thought it was another cluster cycle. The extreme fatigue continued. My neck (not throat) was sore. This past Thursday, I broke out in huge welts on my right arm.I hadn't eaten anything, and hadn't spent time outside. This Saturday, I woke up with pink eye. I thought maybe it was an allergic reaction, but the doctor told me it was bacterial. Yesterday was the worst--I had a headache, was super nauseated and super tired. I slept the whole day and when I ate, it made me sick.
I came home early from work today, and just woke up from a two hour nap.
I test my blood sugars, and they are in normal range not more than 120, and usually below 100. My bp which usually is high is normal. I got a COVID test today because I found out i was in a training last week where several people had COVID. I tested negative for COVID and the flu.
Are these just random symptoms or could it be that my body is just having some crazy reaction to these bites? Or is everything just coincidental? I didn't bring it up to the doctors at urgent care because I figured they'd just dismiss me. The doctor today said I just have a virus and it should be out of my system in the next day.
I do have a primary doctor, but I have so many different things going on I feel like a hypochondriac.
Sorry this is so long.

2024.05.21 02:29 Kooky_Cauliflower13 Lump on neck

I’m a 24F with no severe health concerns. I noticed yesterday that my neck was a little sore and was just feeling around and noticed a lump at the bottom of my neck on the left side. I wouldn’t have noticed it if I hadn’t been feeling around, and you can’t feel it in the area unless you press down. I also work out every day and frequent upper body strength training (which I did yesterday morning) which could be a contributor of my neck being slightly sore. The bump moves and is squishy and I would say it’s about the size of a kidney bean. It almost feels like it should be a vein or artery by the way it moves, but there isn’t one on the other side. I talked myself into believing yesterday that it may just be a swollen lymph node as I was fighting some sort of mini infection (I work with kids and it seems like there’s always something going around with the kiddos we see combined with the germs of the workplace) but today I’m feeling better and the lump is still there. Should I be concerned?? I should mention I have pretty bad health anxiety so knowing that this lump exists (and the worst case scenario of what it could indicate) is constantly in my mind now to where I’m distracted from the outside world it feels. TIA!

[Misc] I thought this was a pimple but now wondering if it’s a cyst?
Ignore my horrible eyebrows 🫣
I have pretty calm skin with the occasional hormonal breakout. Last week this started as what I thought could be a deep one of those deep pimples, but now it’s super swollen and painful. I think it’s also making my lymph nodes around my ear swell up, which is why I think it might be a cyst. I’m planning to see the doctor but thought I’d ask here for any input. Thank you!

2024.05.21 00:48 meowzzz4352 Efficacy of using Opioids for Pain Control

Had my first severe flair start a week ago and it incapacitated me. Dizzy and disoriented all the time and a trail of agonizing pain from my shoulder blade all the way to the jaw. My hyoid is doing that awful popping sensation and my Knots have Knots. Also noticing some neurological changes in my focus, spatial awareness, perception of time and working/short term memory.
Soonest my GP could see me was this morning. By time I arrived I was in tears already, the light brightness is excruciating and conversation / focus near impossible. Both BP and HR are significantly elevated and I have clear muscles spasms and myoclonic jerks on the left side.
I was crying through the nurses collection of my symptoms and when my doc came in. I had written down my pain points with a pain scale level as they changed the last week. I wanted to be 100% prepared so we didnt waste time on her eliminating other things I had already thoroughly researched and eliminated myself.
I have a lingering distrust and skepticism after a misdiagnose years back almost resulting in death, so I always try to have every duck in a row with documentation and links for all my medical journals research. Ive seen this lady for 2 years and thought we had a good rapport.
She softly runs her finger once over my shoulder blade and upper back on both sides to compare the tension and that's that. Goes back to her computer, I remind her of the hyoid involvement and the swollen lumps at the base of my skull and she tells me "there are a lot of lymph nodes in that area Im sure thats all you are feeling" She never touched anything above the shoulder line, not even my face/jaw/cheek area.
I tell her I would like to continue my symptom tracking along side a muscle relax and pain reliever for the next week then come back.. She prescribes the muscle relaxer and says nothing about pain, I have to ask directly if she will write a pain medication. I've already told her I was taking a combo of 3x ibuprofen / 3x naproxen and only having mild short term relief so I kinda chuckle when she says I can go up to 800 but only twice a day and I shouldn't combine the two together like I have been.
Then she tells me she does not believe in the efficacy of using narcotics for pain control in any setting. I just kind of stare realizing no amount of arguing will change this and she suggests a chiropractor and heating pad. I cant think or speak my brain is rolling with pain and emotional instability so I just thank her and leave.
I understand the rationale behind not prescribing narcotics as a long term solution given the addictive nature and opioid crisis but come on man I feel more pain than I ever have before in my life!!! Plus we have history treating my mental health so its not like I'm a new patient drug seeking.
The copay was the last of my available funds as ive been out of work a week now so I wont be able to get a second opinion till next week. The muscle relaxer seems to be taking the edge off the shoulder / back pains thank the goddess but the cervical pain and stabbing in my suboccipital muscles is still at a 7.
Thanks for listening to me complain I needed to get this off my chest.

2024.05.20 23:58 RangerOrdinary2261 Abnormal neck ultrasound! Help!

32yo f, 160lbs, trouble swallowing.
I had an ultrasound today on my neck because I’ve had some swollen lymph nodes and trouble swallowing. I thought it was kind of silly until my results came back. My doctor has ordered a CT, but how concerned should I be? I’m a nervous wreck right now.
Here is the report from my ultrasound:
IMPRESSION: Indeterminate shadowing/possible mass within the level 1 along the left side of the neck. Recommend CT soft tissue neck with contrast to exclude malignancy. Enlarged right cervical chain lymph node as above. Attention on follow-up CT soft tissue neck is recommended.
Report dictation location: W2TW70C3
Narrative EXAM DESCRIPTION: US HEAD NECK SOFT TISSUE;5/20/2024
HISTORY: trouble swallowing and pain near ears.
COMPARISON: None available.
TECHNIQUE: Multiplanar real-time ultrasonography of the soft tissues of the neck with grayscale and color Doppler ultrasound.
FINDINGS: Indeterminate area of focal shadowing and possible irregular mass seen and the left neck at level 1, ultrasound images 48-51. CT soft tissue neck with contrast is recommended to exclude malignancy. Enlarged right cervical chain lymph node measures 1.8 x 0.7 cm. Attention on CT soft tissue neck. Other smaller normal appearing lymph nodes are seen.
