2024.05.21 13:19 Gundam_net Long term Pixel 8 review, no better than a Pixel 5.

For those who know, Pixel 5 is a great phone. And Pixel 8 is just like Pixel 5. They're basically exactly the same thing.
The only real reason to upgrade is to keep current software security updates, and blame Qualcomm for that. They apparantly stop providing firmware updates after so many years.
So the Pixel 8 has no Qualcomm hardware, so it now has 7 years of software updates.
The Pixel 8 has marginally upgraded camera hardware, in some ways. In some ways I actually prefer the older Sony sensor.
Both displays tint towards green when overclocked past 60Hz, because neither have ltpo. Kind of a bummer. A Pixel 8 with ltpo would have been an actual upgrade over Pixel 5, like the Galaxy s24 devices have. I mean... as it sits now it's kind of like a cross between an iPhone 15 and a 15 Pro because it can shoot RAW and it has high refreshrate options available, but you shouldn't use it except with higher screen brightness settings where there's little to no green tinting -- that's how the Pixel 4xl came from the factory, and actually I think that device got a lot of things right in general/overall.
60Hz below 50% brightness, 90Hz above 50% brightness, AmbientEQ, 500nits peak brightness with a 650nit high brightness mode in high ambient light. Optical telephoto system with good natural hardware bokeh. It was all a really good set up, though minimum brightness on it was too bright even though it tone mapped shadows darker at minimum brightness. And AmbientEQ didn't go warm enough. Face unlock also made my face tingle and gave me floaters in my eyes, I think their IR blaster was set to too strong of an intensity or frequency idk. Anyway.
Pixel 8 and Pixel 5 get similar battery life and have similar displays, similar cameras, similar designs -- they're basically the same phone. I think Google wanted to use Tensor in Pixel 5 but ran out of time. Then I think they got sued by Apple for using rounded corners. That's how we got square Pixel 6 and 7. I think Pixel 8 is just Google getting back to where they want to be/recovering from the fallout of the lawsuits and the Tensor G1 and G2 failures, overheating and bugs and all that.
So yeah, that's Pixel 8. It's no better than a Pixel 5, but Pixel 5 was one of Google's best devices ever made so that means Pixel 8 will probably go down with a similar legacy. And the 8a as well -- same vibes as the Pixel 5a/4a 5g/4a. So that one is bound to be good as well.
My advice for Pixel 8? Keep it in 60Hz mode with Smooth Display off. The color accuracy is better and it'll help you fall asleep easier at night with less green light as well. The cameras are as good as ever, I recommend using Google Photos to edit shots because Adobe Lightroom ruins the Pixel-shifted fullRGB color info you get in the Google ecosystem and pipeline. Speaking of which, best to shoot at 1.2x instead of 1x to activate pixel shifted colors and super res zoom. I shoot in Raw + Jpeg to be able to get both an UltraHDR version and a SDR version of the same image by converting RAWs to Jpegs for editing in Google Photos -- keeps all the color info and Pixel Processing, just spits out an SDR jpeg version of the Raw file to go along withthe UltraHDR version. It's great. Gives you 3 copies of every image for lots of creative discretion for Instagram. Some shots I prefer the UltraHDR versions, some I strongly prefer an SDR version of the same image. I find shooting with UltraHDR always enabled produces better quality Raws to use to produce SDR versions of as jpegs in Google Photos. I also don't care much for the blue white balance on the default auto mode of the camera. Fortunately you can manually adjust it while shooting, but sometimes you don't have time to do that and thankfully Google Photos can totally handle it in post editing. No problem to warm up a photo there.
The one major camera complaint I have for this device that seriously bothers me and annoys me is a lack of a manual focus control for creative control over how final images look. Sometimes I want to intentionally blur the entire photo uniformly, subject and background, to create a dreamy look. And I do this on cameras that allow it. Google photos allows adding blur to parts of an image, but does not allow bluring the entire image uniformly for vreative effect -- and that's something either Google photos should add as a feature to post editing, or something that needs to be added into the camera app for manual focus control.
Some 3rd party camera apps do allow manual focus, to great effect, but the problem is they don't have super res zoom color science processing going on. And pixel shifted color is the main feature of this camera that I love and adore so much, that I don't like using 3rd party camera apps. And I shouldn't have to use 3rd party apps to get manual focus. So that's my main complaint with Pixel 8 after using it for a month. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I wish it had ltpo, but only if it doesn't raise the price because I wouldn't be willing to pay more for it. I just think it should have it as a minimum standard. But 60Hz is "okay" it is just a small let down in 2024 being that it's basically no better than Pixel 5. That's Pixel 8.

HOW TO TAKE GOOD SCREENSHOTS USING PHOTO MODE (Video & Results Included) (Steps in comments)
Here, I'll give a simple example as to how I take nice, clean screenshots in game using photo mode. I'll be using Bree Whitney as our photo subject. All of this is done on my PS5 but these steps will apply regardless of what system/PC you play on. I'll try to make this as brief and simple as possible. LET'S BEGIN!
STEPS:
(OPTIONAL NOTE: Before beginning, make sure you have your graphic settings set to Ray Tracing instead of performance to get maximum quality. If you're unable to do this, no need to worry, performance mode will do good enough)
  1. Always MANUAL SAVE before you starting mission/gig. You never know when a character that may catch your interest would show up (unless you've done the mission/gig already). This is the most important part since you can always load this saved data to go back and take some more screenshots that you may have missed.
  2. Have your OPTICS ready. When you know a character's coming, normal zoom. In other words, aim with your eyes, not a weapon. Pay close attention. If/when you spot a picture-perfect moment, start PHOTO MODE.
    1. If you're planning to get some UP-CLOSE shots, zoom in even further with your optics. Make sure you position your V in the right spot before snapping a pic.
  3. Now that you have photo mode launched, you'd either be in FPP (First-Person Perspective) or in DRONE camera. Normally, when you start photo mode, it'll be in drone camera by default. If you're in an action-locked scene, you'd only be in fpp mode. Both are equally important. Other than that, you can switch between the two under the CAMERA tab.
  4. Once you're in photo mode, go to the DOF (Depth of Field) tab and turn it off. In the videos provided, you'll see me playing around with it. DOF typically creates a focus effect, making background and surroundings blurring whilst making the main object clear. If you're solely taking selfies of your V and not worried about background/npcs/other characters, then this step is irrelevant.
  5. Next, turn your character OFF in the POSE tab, this turns makes your V disappear (OPTIONAL). After that head over the the EFFECT tab and play around with the exposure. Exposure will make the lighter brighter or darker depending on what you prefer. If the light is already good, skip this.
  6. CONTRAST. This will provide some sharpness to the screenshot and make textures and fearures much more pronounced.
  7. HIGHLIGHT makes the color richness/ambience pop a bit more. Don't increse this TOO much
  8. Play around with angle, hide the UI and take a pic!
That's it! Threw in a boot pic at the end for you thirst bois out there.

I'm looking for a simple clean solution for run-and-gun video work, and ideally don't want one or two G4 receivers dangling from my camera, so is it possible to plug an AVX or even two receivers straight into my camera or via an XLR cable for when I'm radio micing up an actor or two, or is that not how they're supposed to be used?
My background is in camera work and I know very little about sound so appreciate any info you may have. I tried searching online but I'm not even sure I have enough knowledge to ask the right questions. Thanks in advance.

I don't know what I can do anymore, as i get the bug whit raid not spawning really often without any error or clue, I is hard to test whit different mod list because i take a long time to tested. Maybe there are some more obvious problem on my mod list that someone better informed cloud spot? if something i deleted my user folder and content folder on steam and download everything again.

2024.05.21 12:55 BlacksmithPristine88 I often get problem with raid or rarer other event not spawning on Cassandra but I never get any specify error i debug log, maybe someone with better knowledge could look at my debug log and my mod list and give some clou what is causing the problem

I don't know what I can do anymore, as i get the bug whit raid not spawning really often without any error or clue, I is hard to test whit different mod list because i take a long time to tested. Maybe there are some more obvious problem on my mod list that someone better informed cloud spot? if something i deleted my user folder and content folder on steam and download everything again.

Some pretext: We’re 6 months into our relationship, and I feel like we both love each other more than anything. We met for the first time in her country last month and it was the best time of our lives.
Issue: I’ve been trying to implement fun things we can do over video calls, so I told her that I wanted to have a home-cooked meal date night where we cook on camera and show our recipes to each other. She completely slept through the date time without giving me any heads up that she couldn’t make it. Now, she really does slept a ton and because of certain medication she’ll be out for a while. She fell asleep well before our date time, didn’t set an alarm, and slept through it. I’m disappointed, but I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. So I sent her flowers yesterday morning, said I missed her the previous night, and told her let’s have it tonight instead (last night). She misses it again, last text sent about 45 minutes before our date time, and doesn’t give me any notice or update to believe that she’d miss it this time. Of course I’m upset and mad in the moment. I wait 3 hours and she finally texts me, saying that she’s been getting really bad period pain and that she had her girlfriend come over to help her. Well, it is that time of the month for her. But she had the time to text her friend to come over, she’s up, she knows she’s missing this date, and can’t even send me a single message to tell me she can’t make it or explain why in a timely manner? Like I understand that things come up, but I also feel disrespected and hurt here. And I don’t know if I should be more understanding, or if it’s valid to feel like “Hey, this lack of communication is really hurting me and you need to have the courtesy to let me know you can’t do things we planned.”

So, if I create a playlist on YouTube, is it possible to watch that playlist on YouTube TV? If so, where would that playlist be found? I understand I can go to the YouTube app on my Firestick, for example, and watch it there. But, wondering if that playlist can be located when I'm actually in YouTube TV? Is it maybe something that's just available on the YouTube TV website and not the app or on YTTV using a Firestick?

Hi everyone, sorry in advance for the long post! As the title says I’m looking for some input/advice about choosing undergrad majodouble majors/minors and the CPA designation. Wanting input from people of ALL backgrounds but especially looking to hear from current CPA card holders.
Info about me + different options I’m considering and hoping to get opinions on:
I am a 31 y/o male from Alberta, Canada (wanting to move—preferably outside Canada—sometime after graduation/attaining CPA), currently in my second year of a Bachelor of Computer Information Systems (BCIS) degree but possibly switching programs. My goal is to attain my CPA designation and I have a few different paths I am looking at to get there, but I am not sure what would be the best path forward, taking into account my age as well.
I am at the point now where I have to make a decision in order to avoid potentially taking additional classes during undergrad; although a couple of the potential options will still require 1-2 additional on top of the usual 40 courses for bachelors degree. I have been accepted into the two programs (BBA & BS in Data Science) that I applied to that are within my same university and have until May 30 to accept/decline the offer(s) and transfer programs.
Below is the full list of options I am considering along with the remaining # of courses/time it will take for me to complete everything needed. Currently I have 18 courses completed after two years and 22 minimum remaining for a degree. Atm I am signed up for 2 courses this summer to get me up to 20/40 courses done before yr 3 starts. One, potentially both summer classes are not needed though depending on what direction I go, so if I drop one or both that will add small amount of time as it will add to my remaining # of classes needed since no other offered summer courses to make it up are useful to me. If I could get some advice from the people out there on which option you would recommend, that would be greatly appreciated! Any additional info and insights are welcomed and appreciated!
(1)———Stay in BCIS——— — 22 courses left to complete degree(40 total). — 6 CPA core courses left to complete on top. • 18+22+6 = 46 courses needed for BCIS degree & all CPA prerequisite courses completed to start CPA PEP (+30 months to get CPA designation). • Graduate with BCIS degree then finish 6 remaining CPA core classes at same university to receive Advanced Accounting Post Bachelor’s Certificate before CPA PEP. (2)**Only 3 classes short of just getting full Accounting BBA degree as well instead of certificate. 49 total courses(with business department sign off) needed to graduate with both bachelor degrees. 50 total courses without department sign off.** — BCIS degree has a mandatory co-op. One non-credit 4 month work-term required to graduate. Non-credit co-op class has a normal course tuition fee you have to pay and also need to pay a half course tuition fee for the non-credit co-op work term. **Would drop one of two summer classes
(2)———BBA in Accounting w/ BCIS Minor——— — 22 courses left to complete degree(40 total, no extra courses needed). — Least amount of time. — All CPA core prerequisite courses completed within the degree and can go right into CPA PEP(+30 months to get CPA designation). (3)*** Take 3 missing classes needed to get Data Science minor as well. 43 courses total to complete degree with both minors.*** Would not drop any of the two summer classes
(4)—BBA Acct/Fnce double major w/BCIS minor— — 24 courses left to complete double major degree(42 total courses) to obtain BBA Accounting/Finance double major. — Would be missing 2 CPA cores. So, 44 total courses are needed to graduate with double major, BCIS minor and all CPA cores complete. ***** +4 courses(48 tot.) to add Data Science minor. Would not drop any of the two summer classes
(5)———Bach. of Science in Data Science——— -——w/ Finance concentration & BCIS minor——- — 24 courses left to complete degree. It takes 2 extra courses(42 total courses) to switch and obtain BSDS with finance concentration and BCIS minor. + 2 courses(44) for concentration in comp sci & big data instead. — 18+24 + 5 classes to add accounting minor = 47 completed courses to graduate. — 18+24 + 8 classes to receive Advanced Accounting Post Bachelor’s Certificate = 50 total completed courses needed. • 2 additional CPA cores needed also. So, in order to receive a BSDS w/ Finance concentration and have all prerequisites completed to enrol in CPA PEP it will be 52 courses total I would need to complete(34 more courses left). • Would only need 4 more courses to get BBA accounting degree instead of certificate (56 courses). — Data Science degree has one mandatory 4 month work-term as a graduation requirement just as BCIS does. Unlike the BCIS program though, this is a for credit work-term, which means there is actually one less class to take then I numbers above show for this option.— **Would drop one of two summer classes.
(6)Either BBA accounting(40 courses tot.) or BBA accounting/finance double major & CPA cores complete(44 total) — both still with BCIS minor — followed by either some kind of data science/analytics/AI related ((a.))Post Bachelorette diploma/certificate, ((b.))Masters program, or ((c.))self learning and creating a portfolio along with doing online certifications through IBM, Google, and Microsoft.

This post is a followup to, quickly deleted because some people couldn't engage in meaningful discussion, my post expressing disenchantment with R6 mark II's IBIS which became very wonky after just 4 months of use.
It's now history, because I got the camera from authorized service point two weeks ago, and all is good in the world again. However, encouraged my my friend, I started to use electronic shutter and noticed a peculiar thing and would like to ask fellow R6m2 owners whether they noticed the same. Images taken by my camera with electronic shutter (most notably JPEGs straight from the camera) tend to have two peculiar types of banding, both pretty much unnoticeable when previewing images even at pixel level, and only visible when I equalize image and pixel peep during edit. Whether they appear in RAW very much depends on software.
First is almost interlace-like, where horizontal even and odd lines have different level of luminance. It is pretty much wiped out when noise reduction is applied.
The second, even subtler, are vertical columns about 240 pixels wide of alternating cyan-magenta hue.
When I switch to mechanical shutter or EFCS both are gone. Did anyone encounter these on their own camera?

Edit: thanks, I concentrated too hart on the ? Questions and since everything including memory was answered No I was irritated. Indeed I upgraded my ram from 16 to 32 (unfortunately 4x 8gb) and my old xmp profile 3000mhz doesn't boot, so I lowered till I could boot. Prime95 test was good for 25mins 11 tasks 0 errors but SC crashed in area 18. 2nd try I didn't crash now but probably I should lower the frequency even more..

Hello everyone,
I will try to be short, but also provide important details - I will add more info in comments if I miss something.
Me and my bf have been together for almost 8 years. 7 of those years we have lived together. Overall the relationship was good - our interests aligned most of the time, we had common ideologies and goals. However about a year ago maybe I started feeling that I am no longer in love with him. For me the feelings have faded because I started getting annoyed with his presence, with his constant critique of everything that I do and some random comments here and there about my interests and friends that also hurt my feelings. On top of that all the housework was done primarily by me and I felt like we never had any fun anymore, no dates, no travelling, nothing. Our life became a routine where we were just roommates who barely talked to each other. Obviously there was no sexual attraction from my end as well and the sex was infrequent and terrible. I thought that this is normal for relationships to reach this and that all long term relationships end up in this routine.
Now as for the cheating part. Back in November, I took up a new hobby - playing a musical instrument. I had a normal student-teacher relationship with my teacher (M 34) at the start, nothing out of the ordinary. At some point I noticed teacher giving me compliments and sometimes I would get them in a text form, sometimes in person but again I never thought anything of it (maybe I was being naive). I was very open with my bf about everything and told him about those comments and interactions. At first he didn’t react at all but with time he perhaps started feeling that there was something more and on one evening in March he asked me if I was cheating with my teacher. I was honestly shocked, as at that time I didn’t even think about my teacher in any way other that him being my teacher. I was very hurt by the accusation as well, as I have never even looked at another guy this was since we started our relationship.
From that point the relationship became even more rocky. I felt betrayed and hurt and my bf became very controlling - saying that I can’t wear something to my lessons or that I shouldn’t hang out at our parties with other students of that music school. For me freedom is very important and I felt trapped and like I couldn’t breathe - I was always upset and got annoyed with everything my bf did.
A few weeks later, my teacher asked me why I missed their latest party. I broke down and told him that it was because my bf was jealous towards him. He was also a bit stunned at first and we just continued the lesson as usual. But after that day we started talking more about relationships and some other intimate topics. I started an emotional affair without realising it and some time after that I also developed feelings for him. Eventually it lead to us having sex (in early May) one day when I was particularly upset about something.
Eventually bf found out about this. He left home last Sunday without saying much, just that he needs time to process this. I lived for a whole week alone and I realised that I actually enjoy being alone and that I don’t miss my bf. Side note: after that one time, me and my teacher agreed that we cannot have any relationship outside of lessons anymore in order not to complicate the situation even further and hurt any more people.
This Monday my bf came back. We talked a lot, cried a lot, he said he wants to forgive me and work on our relationship, but I am scared that he just says it now because he is scared of losing me and that if we get back together we will fall into the same patterns again. As of right now I have agreed to go to couples counselling but also look for places to live in the meanwhile. I would appreciate any insight and advice on this situation. Shall we give it a chance, or will we eventually end up in the same situation? I have no feeling for him anymore, I have not missed him during that week that he was away and I don’t know if I can get those feelings back. It is obviously he still has feelings for me.

MoneySmart stated that the price for bladeless that SNEC is $1,962 – $2,180, so I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any info will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Relative novice here. Don't get me wrong - I have a ton of appreciation for Golden Hive for cracking the scrolling algorithm and getting my foot in the door of a hobby I would've never otherwise considered. I know he catches a lot of flak for things like high pricing / odd kit exclusions, misleading simplification of the craft and sometimes questionable subject matter authority. And I know some of that is warranted. But I'll always appreciate him for leading me and a lot of others into the shallow end of the pool, and FWIW I think he deserves more credit than he gets for generating that traffic.
But holy cow do I owe one heck of a thank you to Doin' the Most, Man Made Mead and the other long-form passion-project creators out there (please highlight any lesser knowns in the comments). I was barely two weeks in by the time they transformed what likely would've been a one-and-done forgettable weekend project into what I know for a fact will be an enthusiastic hands-on hobby for years to come.
From the day I started, every single minor question I've had and every oddball recipe idea that's entered my mind has yielded at least one 15+ minute deep dive video breaking down the topic from every helpful angle in simple and approachable terms that anyone can follow. But man, once I sat down and got through that first crash course video that made it all start to click it was like gasoline on a lit match.
