2024.05.20 04:47 Advanced_Quiet9344 Free Xbox Themes Pre-July Shutdown pt 2 (UK Region)

Hello, I have gone through the 1601 themes on the UK region Xbox 360 store and made a list of every free theme.
As this is a very long post I have added square brackets around categories to allow users to filter out items they're not interested in.
The categories are: [movie] [product] [game] [car] [sport] [other] .
If this is still too long I have put \* symbols next to which themes I think are the best (in my opinion).

I may have missed some but with how slow and buggy the Xbox 360 store has been, I'm not pressing the 'A' button a thousand times.
This is part 2 of 4
I hope this helps.

2024.05.09 22:53 hr_pleasedontfireme Built a PC 5 years ago and it shit the bed, need a new one. $2-2.5K

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible and include specific games or programs you will be using.
• 3D Modeling (Fusion 360), Games (AAA Games on highest settings), VR (HTC Vive, upgrading soon, just not sure to what, but not a standalone unit), A LOT of doing 2-3 things at once (Ex.: 3D Modeling on 1 monitor, with web pages open on 2nd monitor, and Youtube playing on a 3rd monitor)
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
• $2,000.00, I don't mind going over by $500 or so if it will greatly improve some aspect
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
• About 2 weeks
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
• The tower and all enclosed bits
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
• Connecticut, USA. No Microcenter near by.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
• I don't have the brand/model on me, but I'll be reusing 4x Monitors (Using a 4x HDMI to USB-C Adapter), Keyboard (USB-A), Mouse (Bluetooth), Charging Mouse Pad (USB-A), Sound System (TOSLINK & USB-A), Microphone (USB-A).
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
• Nope
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
• I would like a bit of storage, maybe 3 TB, I trust your best judgement.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
• I don't care about looks, I'd rather spend the money on performance. I would prefer to have a couple USB-A and USB-C ports on the front or top of the tower, but it's not a big deal if it doesn't
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
• No, I have a copy of Windows 11 Pro

2024.05.01 08:42 Broad-Item-2665 New to VR! What are some fun games that also make you move enough that you can actually get exercise from it?

I have an HTC Vive headset and would like to begin!
I'm not necessarily looking for exercise-themed games, but at least games that are fun in general and have you moving enough to get some exercise out of it. So, exercise-themed game or not, please send me your suggestions!

2024.04.10 12:28 wardXn Trip Report: 36 days across Western Japan, Part 2 – Hiroshima, Kurashiki, Matsue, Izumo, Misasa Onsen, Tottori, Kinosaki Onsen, Amanohashidate (aka the Golden Route, but with extra steps)

- Tl;dr if you’re a returning visitor to Japan, I highly recommend that you consider the outskirts such as Shikoku (in my earlier post here) or Tottori/Shimane – I personally find the more ‘outside’ routes more rewarding, and considerably less crowded as well.
- This is a continuation post from Part 1 here (Day 0~9).
- Refer to link here for a map covering Day 10~12 here(labelled Part 1), Day 13~23 here(labelled Part 2).
- This post covers between Hiroshima (Day 10) to Kinosaki Onsen (Day 18).
- This trip occurred during Mid-November to Mid-December (autumn season).
Day 10 – Kintaikyo Bridge (Yamaguchi), Simose Art Museum and Miyajima (Hiroshima)
Started off the day with a breakfast at the hotel, before taking the Shinkansen over to JR Shin-Iwakuni station for just 15 minutes [NOTE: only the Kodama type stops here], and transferring to a local bus (not covered by JR pass) to see the bridge. There is an admission fee of 310 yen to cross the bridge and back. Spent just about 1.5 hours strolling and relaxing around the area.
After that, before noon I headed over to the Simose Art Museum, a new art museum that popped up between Iwakuni and Hiroshima back in April 2023 (yes, its THAT new). Accessibility to the museum via public transport is limited – you will either need to time your bus connection well, or face walking ~2.5km from the nearest station (JR Kuba/Otake) over. Shuttle buses to/from the museum direct are only available on the weekends (I visited on a Tuesday); consequently I had to walk (or eat a 1h penalty/wait for the next public bus). The museum feels modern with its mirror-like exterior, but exudes a traditional, wooden vibe on the interior. I suppose its main call to fame is its “8-colored boxes” exhibition hall situated above a shallow pool, facing the Seto Inland Sea, which is most certainly memorable (or Instagram-worthy). There is both English translation and audio guides if you are unable to read Japanese. The museum was enjoyable though I wished they would consider improving public transport accessibility to said museum if they want to draw more tourists in. Admission tickets are (relatively) steep at ~1.8k yen. I would suggest rationing 1.5~2 hours here in order to enjoy your time here.
After that, I decided to walk back to JR Kuba to hop over to Miyajima. When I took the ropeway up to Mount Misen, it was just past 1530. Getting up to Mount Misen this late was a major mistake in hindsight for two reasons – first, the ropeway service back to ground level ends at 1630, meaning that there’s not enough time for me to head all the way up to the top. Secondly, there was a really LONG queue for people to get off Mount Misen. It took nearly 45 minutes of queuing time to get on a return ropeway down to base. In short, if you want to get up to Mount Misen, do it early and cater more time for it (probably 2-3 hours). That aside, I was able to watch the sunset at Itsukushima Shrine (night version here).
Day 11 – Peace Memorial Park, Yamato Museum, JSDF Maritime Museum (Hiroshima)
After finishing some paperwork to forward my luggage to my next destination, I went to the Peace Memorial Park which was a 10 minutes walk away from the hotel. I think it drives home the point for nuclear abolition rather well overall. The main museum, A-bomb dome and the memorial cenotaph was crowded as expected, though other parts of the park were just as well presented (but with significantly lesser tourist footfall) such as the Peace Memorial Hall and the Children’s Peace Monument. My thoughts is that you’ll probably have to dedicate about 2-3 hours if you want to properly comb through the entire park at a moderate pace. I spent the morning here for reference.
For the afternoon, I took a highway bus from downtown Hiroshima to Kure (you could do it via JR but the highway bus was more accessible for me) to visit the Yamato Museum and JSMDF Kure Museum. If you’re into military or naval history, this should be right up your alley. The Yamato Museum details Japan’s naval history in Kure, and has that mega-scale Yamato battleship which is pretty impressive. Whereas for the JMSDF museum, it details JMSDF’s contribution such as anti-mining efforts and and various joint exercises around the world. The highlight though was being able to enter the life-sized submarine replica and see how cramped submarines can be first-hand. No visit to Kure is complete without trying the JMSDF curry; I thought it was … alright, not exceptional, but not terrible either – good for a taster at least. Kure is about half an hour away from Hiroshima, and can be done as a (half)-day trip.
In essence, Hiroshima isn’t limited to just Miyajima and the Peace Memorial Museum - I feel that devoting an extra one or two days to explore the peripheral areas (Kure, Onomichi etc) would enhance your experience more in that area!
Day 12 – Kurashiki (Okayama), Yuushien (由志園) (Shimane)
This day is meant to be a ‘repositioning day’ from Hiroshima to Matsue (since I’ll need to travel 2.5 hours across the San’in mountains). Hopping on the Shinkansen over to Shin-Kurashiki and local rail to JR Kurashiki, I decided to spend the morning strolling along the historical quarters and visit the Ohara Museum of Art which was not bad. As always, coming early here means you get to beat the crowd and get an unobstructed view of the canals. There’s also a mini-denim street.
Taking the Yakumo train, by the time I reached Matsue and deposited my luggage at the hotel, it was already 1500. Nevertheless, I managed to squeeze in a visit to Yuushien (由志園) which had just started its autumn illumination at night (day version here). Taking a bus over, I spent the evening walking in the garden and watch the illumination; it was pretty, and also relatively chill [crowd levels are definitely much manageable over here].
Day 13 – Adachi Museum of Art, Izumo Taisha, Ancient Izumo History Museum , Inase Beach (Shimane)
NOTE: Days 13 ~ 16 is covered by the Sanin-Okayama Pass for JR-related trains
The plan for the day was to start off at the Adachi Museum of Art in the morning, before breaking wesstwards towards Izumo Taisha and exploring the area before circling back to Matsue for the night. The Adachi Museum of Art is renowned for its well-curated garden, and in my opinion it certainly lives up to its title. Besides that, there is also an extensive art gallery which I would say is on par with some of the better ones in my opinion (think Benesse Art Museum). Access to the museum via public transport is doable via JR Yasugi and hopping on the shuttle bus which departs at fixed timings, however, do note that the bus has a maximum seating capacity of 28; if it fills ahead of time you’ll be forced to wait for the next bus (hourly departure). For the return trip to JR Yasugi, you will need to grab a ticket near the counter to book a slot for the shuttle bus (free).
I then took the Yakumo limited express train over to JR Izumo, and swapped to a bus towards Izumo Taisha. There were a lot of rabbit statuettes littered around the temple, a nod to the folktale The White Hare of Inaba. Considering that it was a public holiday in Japan (Labor Thanksgiving Day) and its innate popularity, it was rather crowded; I decided to queue for one of the smaller shrines and got a goshuin for my effort. I do want to mention that those binded rice straws (Shimenawa) at the front of the temple are extraordinarily thick– seeing is believing. There was still some time before sunset so I decided to walk over next door to the Shimane Museum of Natural History which provided a run-down on the history of Izumo. If I recall correctly, admission is half-priced for foreign visitors so it might be worth a visit even on a budget. The main thing that stuck with me for this museum was the very long temple replica, as well as a full-blown jade/bronze armoury. Lastly, I took a walk over to Inase Beach to visit the sunset; there was a tori gate perched on an outcrop with a donation box stuck near it. Although the sea breeze was chilly, watching the sunset was something worth visiting; its one of those visuals that would stick with me long after this trip fades away from memory.I took the local Ichibata tram that courses along the northern stretch of Lake Shinji back to Matsue to retire for the night.
For dinner, I chanced upon a local cafeteria called Bamboo where I ordered their daily special – kimchi beef nabe, and some karaage. The husband and wife owner duo offered to provide me a free serving of zosui [porridge] using the leftover soup base from the nabe at no extra charge which I gratefully accepted. With my basic command of Japanese, I was able to have a meaningful conversation about some of the tourist hotspots, as well as some of the town happenings – they mentioned that one of the temple nearby was celebrating 神在祭 (lit. gods are present festival) tomorrow and I noted that down. I just find the hospitality rather heartwarming and just want to give them a shoutout here.
Day 14 - Sada Jinja, , Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, Matsue Castle (Shimane), Misasa Onsen (Tottori)
Started off with a visit to Sada Jinja, a relatively remote shrine in the outskirts of Matsue. Unfortunately, the main event that the cafeteria owner mentioned would only take place at night, but nevertheless, there were those bazaar stores open for me to explore and buy some finger foods etc. Grabbed a goshuin for my effort, and a corn cob.Taking a return bus to central Matsue, I stopped by the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum where they detailed this one foreigner that made significant effort integrating into 1900s Japan society and contributed enough to be worthy of memorializing. There was a rather popular soba restaurant nearby (Kamiyo Soba) serving nameko [mushroom] soba which I thought was pretty delicious. After lunch, I walked over to explore Matsue Castle, one of the few remaining original castles left standing in Japan. The size of it is pretty impressive when you look at it in person.
Finally, I headed over to JR Matsue to board the Ametuchi sightseeing train. As with other sightseeing trains, there was a bar where you could buy some snacks and drinks to consume. Two particular aspects that stood out to me was the comfy, wooden design feel that was present throughout the train, and was how well they integrated various local crafts into the train, such as the tiles that are on the tables. The sightseeing train coasted along the Sanin line facing the Sea of Japan which made for an enjoyable sightseeing ride. As with previous sightseeing trains, you could book this sightseeing train easily via the JR West website. JR pass (or the Sanin-Okayama Area Pass) covers the base fare.
The train runs from JR Izumo all the way to JR Tottori, though I stopped at Kurayoshi to head to my final destination for the next two nights – Misasa Onsen. The main reason for choosing this particular onsen town was that I wanted to climb up Nageire-dou the next day, which was a 20 minutes bus ride away. However, I made a major blunder by not engaging a local guide to climb with me ahead of time (since the regulations are that hikers need to go in pairs in interest of safety). I casually remarked this to the chauffer that picked me up to the ryokan, and he went above and beyond to call various people to make it happen. Although it was ultimately unsuccessful [since it was so last minute – entirely my own fault], I was really moved by his efforts – it really speaks to the otomenashi experience that ryokans provide, a unique aspect to Japan.
Onto to the actual ryokan – Mansuiro (万翆楼). The room was pretty traditional with tatami mats and futons, but it was comfortable overall. I would like to give special mention to their dinner service which was delectable, showcasing their local cuisine such as crabs, beef sukiyaki and pear wine (!). Another nice subtle touch is how they labelled each dining room with the assigned guest name. I would highly recommend them if you do pass by this area. Also, I would also mention that this particular ryokan is ‘rare’ in the sense that it accepts solo pax bookings; most ryokans would only accept a minimum of 2 pax in order for them to accept your reservations.
Day 15 – Misasa Onsen, Kurayoshi Figurine Museum, Nijisseiki Pear Museum (Tottori)
Had a scrumptious breakfast at the ryokan (look at the quantity of it – I struggled to finish them). Even though I knew that I wont be able to climb Nageire-dou, I decided to go over to view the temple from a distance [and try my luck and see if any solo strangers were there too]. Unfortunately, at ~9am, there were very few trekkers, and I didn’t feel right butting into those couples so I decided not to push my luck further and leave. I managed to get a shot of the remote temple from the observatory point.
With that minor setback, I decided to head over to the nearby town of Kurayoshi via bus to spend the day. Some notable attractions in brief as follow:
- Kurayoshi Figurine Museum: As a repurposed school building, this is a good place to visit if you have interest in anime or figurine collecting. At the point of visiting, there were some exhibits detailing how they made those nenedroids. Even if you aren’t into anime, there are also other figurines such as military(tanks/jets), and animals that you could view, which should be adequate to cater to a wide demographic. There were also some hands-on activities like creating your own nenedroid faces. I took about ~2 hours in this place.
- White Wall Warehouses: as what the name implies, it’s a bunch of historic white-walled building. Its okay if you’re already in the vicinity, though I wouldn’t purposely make a dedicated stop for this. (~10-20 minutes walking along the canals)
- Kurayoshi Line Railway Memorial Hall: a small free museum showing the history of the now-defunct Kurayoshi railway line. I suppose the main draw is that you are able to get up one of the old train replicas similar to those at the Kyoto Railway museum. There's also another SL replica outside of the memorial hall.
- Nijisseiki Pear Museum: a pear museum showcasing the history of pear cultivation in Tottori, as well as the various pear types around the world. You get to sample free pears, though I wanst able to do so because it was Kansai Culture Appreciation Day and admission was free, thus said samples were already gone by the time I visited. (~1-1.5 hours)
Overall, a pretty enjoyable time in Kurayoshi. The figurine museum and the pear museum are the main highlights for me.
Returned to Misasa Onsen late afternoon. I spent the remainder of the day exploring the onsen town before dinner, and one particular interesting location was the Misasa Violin Museum, showcasing how violins are made and some history on violin-making. You could even test-run their violins with purchase of a drink (at ~400yen) though I declined since I couldn’t play it. I enjoyed spending the evening walking along Mitoku River and soaking at an ashiyu. There is an open-air river onsen that is free to all, though I was too shy to do so.
Day 16 – Tottori Sand Dunes, Tottori (Tottori), JR Amarube (Hyogo)
Another great breakfast at the ryokan before checking out. As with most ryokans, they offered to drop me off at JR Kurayoshi so that I could catch my next train to next-door Tottori. After dropping my luggage at the hotel, I went straight to the sand dunes for a paragliding session. Usually most people would associate the sand dunes with the museum (and rightfully so), but I was feeling a bit daring and decided to try something out of character. For 10k yen, you are taught the basic commands (left/right) and postures, landing/emergency drills before you get to do your paragliding attempts (4 in total, three solo attempts and one tandem with the instructor). Although not explicitly mentioned in the website, there was actually an English-speaking instructor that was present at all times so I do not think you need to worry if you can’t speak a lick of Japanese. All in all, a great way to view the dunes from above.
After that, I spent some time traversing along the sand dunes and visited the sand museum. It appears that the themes vary on a yearly basis and this year’s focus was on Egypt. I thought the level of detail on each of those sculptures was pretty impressive. Lastly, I made a stop at Amarube Station (or known as the ‘station in the sky’); while I cant say that I am a rail geek, I admire the engineering design that has been in place since the 1910s. Getting to and from the station via JR was a pain though, with train frequency few and far in between, but I still felt it was worth spending an hour just exploring the area and taking some photos. Returned to Tottori for the night to retire at Green Hill Morris Tottori, which in my opinion is a great value-for-money business hotel at ~7.7k yen/night with decent rooms and good breakfast spread.
Day 17 – Hakuto Shrine, Uradome Coast (Tottori), Kinosaki Onsen (Hyogo)
NOTE: Days 17 ~ 21 is covered by the Kansai Wide Area Pass for JR trains and Kyoto-Tango (for Amanohashidate).
Started the morning with a subsidized sightseeing taxi at JR Tottori to bring me to some of the tourist hotspots such as Hakuto Shrine (with a heavy rabbit theming) and Uradome Coast(which was extremely windy/rainy on that day). For 3k yen, you get to have a taxi to bring you around based on the selected route of your choice, and the taxi driver would explain some background information of the place to you (mostly in Japanese, ymmv). These sightseeing taxis are a good way to get around places in Tottori especially if you rely on public transport. I do note that they operate on a first-come-first served basis (no reservations allowed), so it is a good idea to get there right after the tourism centre opens in the morning. The entire tour lasted for about 3 hours.
After that, I took the limited express Hamakaze over to Kinosaki Onsen. There are only two trains per day (one early in the morning, and another just after lunch) so its not a good idea to miss it. Although I arrived at the ryokan earlier than the check-in time, I was able to drop my luggage first to explore the town. After checking in, I was handed a onsen pass to try out the 7 public baths at no extra charge (its baked in as part of the accommodation cost). I managed to try out 4 of them, with the remaining 3 to be done the next day. I spent the evening and night walking around town. My personal thoughts on Kinosaki Onsen as a whole is that while it is heavily geared to foreigners with English translations almost pervasive throughout the area, it manages to retain its own traditional identity rather well. Additionally, I feel that if one wishes to try out all 7 public baths in the area, spending at least 2 nights here is a good idea especially as 1 or 2 of them would be closed on a certain day during the week for maintenance.
Onto the ryokan for the next two nights – Morizuya. The innkeeper is a cool middle-aged man with a good command of English and here, the otomenashi experience was great – with the little things such as offering to help take photos for personal keepsake, showing the various facilities within the building and the room. My room was on the third floor, and at first glance it looks like the run-of-the-mill traditional ryokan room with tatami mats. However, the balcony view from the room is the million dollar view facing the main road that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. Dinner was served with Tajima beef and crab legs. I should mention that Morizuya is again one of those few ryokans that accept solo travellers, so kudos to them.
Day 18 – Kinosaki Onsen (Hyogo), Amanohashidate (Kyoto)
Decided to day-trip over to Amanohashidate via Kinosaki. Breakfast at Morizuya was splendid. Getting over to Amanohashidate is not as straightforward as I needed to make a transfer at JR Toyooka via the Kyoto-Tango railway (covered by Kansai Wide Area Pass).
My day trip was as follow:
Amanohashidate at 0930 Bus to Ine to catch the boatride Return bus to Motoise Jinja Kasamatsu Park Nariaiji Temple Rent a bike and cycle across the sandbar to the other end Amanohashidate Viewland return to JR Amanohashidate
- The boat ride at Ine was alright, though it was nothing special overall. Seagulls are pretty aggressive so I think it’s a good idea not to bring any food stuff with you.
- Having experienced both ends of Amanohashidate, Kasamatsu Park was definitely less crowded (since it wasn’t that readily accessible via public transport), though the view of the sandbar was about the same (Kasamatsu Park vs Viewland). IF you have time for just one, settling for Amanohashidate Viewland is adequate. Nariaiji Temple was not bad though and is probably worth the visit over to Kasamatsu Park.
- There is a bike rental store near the sandbar entrance, with rentals at ~400yen for about ~2 hours. If you are not feeling well on that day you could also opt for a boat ride to get to the other end of the sandbar(iirc 600+ yen). Cycling across the sandbar took me about 30 minutes (with some stops along the way to take photos etc).
- If your time is really limited dropping Ine is a necessary evil (since it takes almost an hour on bus to get there from JR Amanohashidate, one-way).
Returned to the ryokan for dinner – great as usual. Additionally, I managed to try out the remaining public onsens.
---
If you’re still reading, thanks for powering through! Due to word limit I cant post the Kobe/Osaka leg here, but I'll add them in a separate post in the coming weeks.

Copper Heatsink Install on my G14's 980 Pro
Installed a thin copper heatsink on my 980 Pro SSD to deal with any temp concerns. I see a slight bend in the chassis right where the heat sink is. Not sure how worried I should be about that, but I'm going to send it. The improvement in temps is definitely noticeable.

2024.02.22 15:28 Sgt-Skunthole My Journey throughout the years of using modded WhatsApp.

Hey Guys,
I thought i'd share my story on my journey of using different modded WhatsApp throughout the years, and where I had put my trust. From WhatsApp+ by Rafalanse in 2013 to my current FMWhatsApp by Fouad Mokdad.
Heres my story:
I started my journey on WhatsApp with the Blackberry Curve 8520, in 2012, but that was short-lived due to the phone dying by water damage. I eventally ended up purchasing a cheap Chinese android Phablet (this thing was a pain, miserably slow, got really hot and the screen kept getting lines) ...
Anyway, I was excited for my phablet and I remember when I got it I was researching different apps to download and try out. Google was (probably still is) my best friend, so I asked a lot of questions, seeking whatever I could put my hands on to try.

1. WHATSAPP+ - By Rafalanse

After some time I had stumbled on some videos talking about WhatsApp+, and I wondered. What is this WhatsApp+? Why is it so different from the original? What also caught my eye was the app icon. It was a light blue/cyan which is my favourite. So, I opened up the video. I vaguely remember it being an Indian guy talking about how to get WhatsApp+ on your PC, via Bluestacks.
I decided to go do some more research and stumbled upon the XDA thread where rafalanse; the creator of the original WhatsApp+ basically had a forum post on what WhatsApp+ was and it's features.
At the time I don't think privacy was a concern, I can't exactly remember if last seen was a thing back then (circa 2013). We didn't have blue ticks then, blue ticks were only released until 2014, and the Status (sometimes referred to as "Stories", now called Updates) was released until Feb, 2017. What drew a lot of people to WhatsApp+ was it's ability to have the app customized with themes. Something that even to this day, the Original WhatsApp doesn't have, the most you get is a light and dark theme.
Facebook eventually purchased WhatsApp for $19 Billion Dollars (and I downloaded it off of Google Play for free? lol), a few months after that aquisition, rafalanse got hit with a DMCA notice from WhatsApp, and he was forced to shut down modding the applicaiton. On January 21st, 2015. Users who were once using WhatsApp+ were hit with a 24 hour ban and were forced to switch to the official WhatsApp. We were broken hearted. WhatsApp+ had officially shut down in 2015.
XDA Article - Cease and Desist: Extract below
Developers in trouble
So, now... it was time to hunt, who would create a new modified WhatsApp? Would rafalanse leak the source code to his mod? Will anyone make themes and remove that pesky blue tick so we can have some privacy?
Rafalanse eventually moved on to create Plus Messenger, a modified version of Telegram Messenger, another popular messaging app (and in my opinion, better than WhatsApp, I just cant convince people to convert... You could even migrate messages from WhatsApp to Telegram and Telegram had the features that WhatsApp has now. They did take a while to add Stories and Video Calling but before those were popular, telegram already had a bunch of features that WhatsApp just didnt have yet.
I decided to stray my own path, I remember Lucky Patcher had a patch for WhatsApp to include the privacy features.

2. GBWHATSAPP - By Omar (@atnfas_hoak)

After some time I stumbled upon this mod called GBWhatsApp. It became widely popular. Created by Omar (Twitter Username: atnfas_hoak). I honestly never really knew what the"GB" in GBWhatsApp stood for, and I was skeptical if he was indeed the original creator since there were starting to pop up a lot of clones with the same name. However I was eventually convinced that this was the original creator based on my research. All the other clones were updating after his release, which means they were all borrowing and copying his mod. His Telegam Channel (Search GBUser on Telegram for the Official Channel) and Group along with Twitter account also frequently updated, giving some insights and plans and there were also other moderators in his telegram group that were keeping everyone engaged.
GBWhatsApp boasted a whole new bunch of privacy featues and the ever popular Anti-Ban code (which prevented users from getting banned for using a modded version of Whatsapp), themes and even very exclusive features! Things like hiding view status, hiding the forwarded notification on messages, Block Calls with/without showing Ringing, Increase on Photos and Videos limit, Auto-Reply, Custom Privacy settings for each contact, etc. I could be wrong but I believe Omar's WhatsApp was based on the WhatsApp Beta versions, because I do remember having access to features that weren't yet available to the public on the official version.
This mod stuck with me for a number of years, until 2019. I can't remember the exact month, but there was a huge ban wave going around, and even I was hit with it. I remember the frustration of people asking me the question "Why was I banned???". It wasn't just GBWhatsApp, but other mods too, like Fouad Mokdad's FMWhatsApp which was another popular mod but was basically copying code from GBWhatsApp, just rebranding it. I tried explaining to people that it's unofficial and according to WhatsApp, (oversummarizing their terms of service) using a modified version of their app is bad, no-no. If anything goes wrong they could be held liable and their excuse is they don't want people to be hacked or data leaked because of these mods, they weren't totally wrong. There was an article from India Today about a mod called WhatsApp Gold. A gold-themed WhatsApp that was basically stealing your private photos back in 2016, It also resurfaced in 2019.
GBWhatsApp got one final update after the ban and.. well... that was it. We never heard from Omar again. WhatsApp usually has their base expire over time to force you to update to a newer version. As time went on we were getting closer and closer to this expiration date but no word from Omar about anything, AT ALL, not even a base update. The other mods of the Telegram were saying the same, Omar either did not respond, or his responses were vague. Eventually... the day came, there was no surprise updates... nothing and On August, 1st 2019. GBWhatsApp was declared DEAD officially by Omar.
*GBWhatsApp Shuts Down* We are really sorry to announce that we have completely stopped the development of GBWhatsApp. It was a great time with all you people.

3. YOWHATSAPP - By Yousef Al Basha

So, here we were... hanging by a thread with almost nowhere to turn. All the other mods that existed were also shut down because they had relied heavily on Omar's apk to modify and rebrand, without him, they too didn't exist (except for one.. which i'll discuss below now)
I jumped on to using FMWhatsApp but it didn't last long, it too gave the notification of the version was expired. I remember one of the users in the Telegram Group was having a discussion with us, and they recommended "YOWhatsApp" he even linked the Telegram group. YoWhatsApp was different. This was unlike the other mods out there, It didn't seem like it was relying on Omar's GBWhatsApp for it's base nor seem like it was just rebranding GBWhatsApp. This YoWhatsApp had a cleaner UI for it's Mod Menu, it almost seemed like it was actually a part of WhatsApp and not just a random mod menu. GBWhatsApp's menu was a bit cluttered and the UI for those menus were a lot less neat.
...and... IT WORKED! We finally had some hope! Yousef Al Basha continued updating his WhatsApp for some time but it was unfortunately short-lived. Yousef Al Basha also went dark. The notification came up saying that the WhatsApp version will soon be outdated and we would have to update. However Yousef wasn't posting any updates in his Telegram Channel (@YoMODS). On November, 6th 2020 he issued a notice that YoWA v8.50 was not an official YoWA update. This was because someone else faked an update and claimed it was official but Yousef did not issue an update.
And well.... that was it. The group chat was locked, and we were forced to move on in Late November - Early December of 2020. That's where FMWhatsApp by Fouad Mokdad came in.

4. FMWhatsApp - by Fouad Mokdad

After the version had expired I decided to move on to FMWhatsApp, I just couldnt go back to the Official WhatsApp. I had spent the past 8 years on modded versions and it was either I gave WhatsApp completely or find an alternative. I chose the latter and decided to give FMWhatsApp a try. I had stumbled upon the Official Telegram group for FMWhatsApp and began using. Fouad basically was known for copying other's work so when he released his update, it still used to say YoMods in the mod menus or about sections. But what made a lot of people eventualyl migrate to FMWhatsApp was that on February 8th, 2020, Yousef Al Basha sent a message in his telegram channel:
Great work by FouadMODS, walking the same path of YoWA by adding Exclusive Features 👏 I am sharing it here to benefit my subscribers who miss YoWA🔮😇
and forwarded a message from the official Telegram Channel of FouadMODS (@FouadMODS) showing an exclusive feature to mark a status as viewed if you had turned off Show View Status.
... and well. I have been using it ever since! I've come across other mods like TMWhatsApp and WHatsapp Aero for example which are other popular mods that I see a couple of Youtubers talk about, but they fundamentally take FMWhatsApp's code and just rebrand, WhatsApp Aero actually does it in a cleaner UI than FMWhatsApp and other mods. Though it takes them some time to rebrand and release their newer version.
As far as I am aware, I don't think there is another mod that exists that does it's own mods without relying on reversing and taking apart FMWhatsApp.
I thought that i'd share my journey with you as a guide on my experience in trusting mods. There are so many fakes and clones out there it's really hard to tell who to turst. Im not saying trust these mods either. There is a risk to them all! It's just that these were the most trusted as the years went by, not just by me but countless others.
And as of recent, It seems a new ban wave has been happeneing. Users are now forced to use the official WhatsApp but they are met with a banner message that gives them time to backup their chats and let them know that they're using an unofficial version. I'm not sure what the future will hold, I do hope there's a new anti-ban code and we can enjoy modified WhatsApp again.
Goodluck to you all! Hope my story inspires soemone and atleast points your head in the direction to help find a trusted modder.
For you Rooted users, you guys may have some hope. WATweaker

2024.02.19 07:45 Sin-God Coming to Cartoon Land: Toon & Half-Toon Perk & Item Discussion

Let’s continue the discussion we’ve begun of Generic Cartoon World’s origins, perks, and items. As usual have some links! The first link leads to the most up-to-date generic Generic Cartoon World that I know of. The second link leads to a list of all of my discussion posts. Also have a link to the first post I made exploring the Human origin and the undiscounted perk and item trees.

General Thoughts

Today we are discussing the origins that are a touch flashier than the human origin, those of toons and half-toons. There’s a lot to like about both of these origins, so much so that while I have a preference for the human origin, simply because as far as jumping goes I tend to think and act defensively, I think all three origins are about even in terms of how much cool shit they have going for them.
I think whichever origin is going to most appeal to you will depend on your playstyle and any themes or gimmicks your jumper’s got going for themselves. I think a lot of jumpers will find the idea of toonforce to be too tempting to pass up, and honestly that’s completely fair. I am all about longevity and practicality, especially since my jumpers who come here do so early and always snag the handy stuff presented by humanity’s perks.
I’ll move forward by discussing the lore here. Again my intentions here are to give people enough that they understand the basics, instead of hosting a graduate level course on someone else’s lore.

Lore & Basic Attributes

Toons, regardless of whether they are full toons, toon pets, or toon objects, are magically constructed from “Ink” which is not just regular ink you can find in a ballpoint pen but magically treated ink that in the right hands is an essential component in magically imbuing a series of images with life, or some degree of supernatural potency that makes them go beyond being art.
Animators are humans who possess the ability, when in possession of the right materials, to bring their artwork to life. Prior to the creation of Gertie the Dinosaur, in 1914, all known instances of toon-like-life or phenomena are short-lived “Phantasms”, strange, toon-like temporary beings and the most famous example of these phantasms are used by entertainer J Stuart Blackton who is eventually killed by an angry mob for his magic. Animators have lived throughout history and can achieve some results when using their abilities with a range of materials.
Gertie was accidentally created by animator Winsor McCay and while Winsor was able to profit off of Gertie Winsor was unable to create more due to not having knowledge of the methods by which toons were created. This process would eventually be understood fully by Otto Messmer (the animator, and cartoonist) and Pat Sullivan (an animation studio owner) would attach himself to the animator and take credit for the discovery. Otto would create multiple living toons beginning in 1919, Felix the Cat and Inky and Winky. During this time more people learned how to create toons, very probably from Pat Sullivan himself, and companies creating toons began to appear. By 1926 toon creators exists all over the world, but America remains the dominant region as far as toon activity and toon life go, even to the present day. The struggle for toon rights begins in the early 30s amid the backdrop of the Great Depression. If you begin in the present, rather than choosing to tackle a specific scenario or begin in a specific time period, toons and half toons have a plethora of civil rights, but earlier in the setting’s history you will need to refer to the timeline at the back of the jump doc to know what rights, if any, have been granted to toons and half-toons by the time you arrive.
Toons and half-toons have passive benefits and disadvantages as far as basic biology goes. These are things that are a basic facet of existing as a toon or half toon, and are not perks (though upgraded versions of some of these things can be purchased as perks even by humans, though obviously they’d cost more since humans wouldn’t get discounts on them). Some of these things include a hammerspace inventory (the ability to place reasonably sized items in a dimension that only you or a specialist can access and retrieve them at will, and can use in a range of ways), toon-speed (a limited super speed that even allows you to temporarily ignore gravity, and achieve a range of effects), immunity to forced aging, immunity to mundane diseases, and passive immunity to “critical hits”. Not all of these are positives, and among the negatives cartoons and half toons endure are things like a deadly weakness to an in-jump chemical concoction; eraser (there is a human perk that can negate this) and a tremendous difficulty harming people with cartoon abilities (there is a perk that can overcome this, which makes your cartoon powers sometimes staggeringly effective against non-cartoon foes).

Cartoons

This origin offers a range of fascinating abilities to those who opt to spend their decade here attempting to harness the rule of funny. With the right perk from the half-toon origin this is a hilarious set of deadly and offensive powers, but without it this is an interesting set of defensive or tone-shifting powers. Let’s begin our exploration of these abilities with two 100 CP perks: Comedic Ability Parts and A Comedic Acting Genius.
CAP gives you special abilities based on the makeup of your toon body, some of which are buffs like a boost to your regeneration speed, while others are whole new abilities like flight powered by spinning ears or unique, anatomy based attacks. In order to have these benefits you need to be in your toon form and have the body parts in question, as this attaches abilities to the parts that grant them to you. ACAG makes you a very talented comedian and actor (in comedic roles), as well as allowing you to alter your background prior to the jump and start off as an established comedian and/or comedic actor.
The 200 CP perks are named Concussive Cure All and Hammerspace Specialist. CCA grants you a special healing ability activated by whacking things that can fix all sorts of breaks and can fix some types of mental illnesses. You can also break some locks using this, even if they shouldn’t break from being crushed, and are immune to insanity and various mental conditions, which will only make you temporarily kooky. HS massively expands your hammerspace, or gives you a huge one if you are human, and allows you to do a lot more with a hammerspace than someone who has one but is not a specialist in them, even locking people out of their hammerspaces (temporarily). HS is a very nice perk that grants a permanent inventory and allows you to use your inventory more robustly.
The 400 CP tier perks are named ZAP! and Annoying Teleporter. ZAP! makes you immune to instant death, forced transformation, and disintegration effects. When forced to endure such effects, a comedic and temporary effect occurs instead such as you falling over and an angel in your shape floating out of you before you regain consciousness and control of your body, in cases of death effects or disintegration, and when transformed you remain mobile, sapient, and powered, and can return to your normal form a few seconds after your transformation. AT lets you teleport, at will, to places not under direct observation, and you can do this through many different mediums, so long as the target destination is within a few miles of you.
The 600 tier perks are named Cartoon Shapeshifting and Back Into The Inkwell. BITI is a regeneration perk that causes damage to you to rip off flesh and turn it into ink and paint that can move on its own and will attempt to return to you and reembed itself in you, restoring your health. This is a very powerful, if gross, regeneration perk, and lets you digest ink and paint which can serve as a powerful potion of healing for you. Cartoon Shapeshifting is just a full blown shapeshifting perk that starts off with you only able to do cartoon-y shapeshifting, which itself can let you do things like fly or dig at high speeds. As you train this power what you can shift into and mimic expands, so honing this ability can make you absurdly skilled at shapeshifting over time.
The capstone for this origin is named “Toonforce”. This is one of the three physics altering perks this jump offers, and it allows you to project a field which turns an area up to 100 feet around you into a toon-y wonderland under your influence. This allows you to change physics and reality, to some extent, based on humor and the esoteric laws of comedy. This will primarily benefit you by making things eminently survivable, but if the effect is funny you can enforce other changes on a range of things. You can share this benefit with others, and use this to survive a staggering range of otherwise deadly attacks and effects. This is great for surviving deadly jumps and synergizes incredibly well with the other auric physics perks, boosting their ranges and allowing you to express incredible control over your immediate surroundings. Toonforce specifically has unique effects with Half Toon and Human perks worth reading the perk’s full description to understand, but basically this is a defensive perk on par with Mundane Mondays but for purely defensive purposes, whereas Mundane Monday can prevent enemies from empowering or supporting each other.
The items in this origin are a range of fascinating quality of life things, beginning with the Toon Tunnel Kit and the Acme’s Handy Gloves, both of which cost 50 CP. TTK is a historic toon item that allows for quick travel from one side of a mountain, building, or other solid object by allowing you to paint a tunnel connecting the two sides of the object, and even (if you spend 100 extra CP) summon a train for faster travel from one side of the tunnel to the next. AHG is a pair of smart gloves that can do a variety of small, sometimes delicate tasks, like help you with math, play instruments, do crossword puzzles, and are animated and intelligent enough to do a range of tasks on your behalf.
The 100 CP items are named Assorted Toon Items, Endless Explosives and A Hole In The Wall. ATI is a set of toon items that consist of a toon anvil, piano, and safe, many bananas, and a big toon X you can use to aim the anvil. These items are toon objects, aside from the bananas (which are slippery but otherwise mundane, edible bananas), and can be used to enact a variety of toon antics. The anvil, safe, and piano are shrunk down when in a passive, inert state, and when tossed at someone or something grow in midair until they reach their full height. Without the right perks these items will only stun those they hit but these items can hone in on someone if you attach the toon x to them somehow. The bananas are just slippery bananas but people pursuing you are guaranteed to slip on the peels and even vehicles will spin out if they drive over the peels. You can also sell or just eat the bananas.
Endless Explosives is an endless set of dynamite and black round bombs which stun those caught in their explosive vicinity. With the right perk these become fully functional explosives, and can be used as such allowing you to be a deadly Minecrafter even before Minecraft. The Hole In The Wall is my favorite housing item as it is a simple hole you can attach to walls or the ground that is a perfectly modern tiny house with a studio-style build. You can decide how big the hole is whenever you use it, allowing you to make it almost impossible to enter, or making it big enough for cars and animals larger than humans at will. This mobile home comes with a flexible mailing address, perpetually paid utilities and other neat amenities. This is an incredibly handy item especially for beginner jumpers or survivalists, and is a must buy if you want to visit apocalypse jumps. That said, the toon vehicle item for humans is still, as I previously said, in some ways this item’s bigger, older sibling. It’s hard to compete with a mobile home that can drive itself while you take a nap.
We are now at the set of price tags where each increment only has one item. At the 200 CP tier we see the Toon Medical Bag, at the 400 CP tier we see the Touch The Toon Sky(scrapper), at the 600 CP tier we get the Context Sensitive Bag, and at the 800 CP tier we get the Acme Acres item.
The TMB is a cartoon-y bag of toon medical supplies that heal people of a range of maladies. It has enough to heal four people at a time once per week and each person’s worth of supplies takes a week to replenish itself. This is a handy healing item and works on all sorts of lifeforms not just cartoons.
The TTS(S) is a toon pet in the form of a skyscraper that defaults to the form of the Woolworth Building in NYC. This is a living building that is loyal to you and can be used for anything requiring such a gigantic building. As this is also a toon pet you can insert it into your hammerspace inventory without it counting against the limits of your inventory so long as it has no sapient lifeforms inside of it. This means that anytime no toons, humans, or certain other animals are inside of the building you can pull it into your inventory and leave, easily transporting it elsewhere. This is true of all of the toon pet items, by the way. In future settings this could be used as a sort of tourist attraction, allowing you to use it to make some money that way, in addition to all of the other ways it could make money.
At the 600 CP tier we have the CSB. This item is a rule of funny item that is a bag you can reach into and grab anything funny out of. You have some level of influence over this, as the item is mildly responsible to your needs, but since it’s a comedy item you best hope that it’d be really funny if what you needed was in the bag. This synergizes really well with the ACAG perk as well as being a toon in general, but at best this item gives you what you need and at worst this gives you something that makes your failure funny.
The capstone item for this perk is names Acme Acres and it is a pocket dimension that takes the shape of a toon town surrounded by grasslands that stretch a few kilometers or infinitely depending on whether or not you have hammerspace specialist. The dimension gives you a town in your hammerspace, even giving you a hammerspace just for it in case you don’t have one. In the town everything is toonified, with new objects and inhabitants who are not natively toon-y becoming toon-y overtime (temporarily in the case of people and living things, and permanently in the cases of objects, eventually becoming appropriately sized and powered toon pets if they stay in AA long enough, though even from the moment someone sets foot in the town they get the benefits of toonforce, just moderately weakened). This is a very sick item and it can be used to house entire tribes, or even civilizations of peaceful people and creatures in the right hands. You cannot deposit this item somewhere like you can other items in this jump, instead what it is is that you can invite people here and build on the town. People in the town, including toon pets created by this place, are basically under your protection and a hero, king, or other sort of ruler can easily have an easily accessible capital or even entire civilization here if they purchase hammerspace specialist.
The perks and items in this origin are really neat defensively and can allow for a lot of fun interactions during your adventure.

Half Toon

This origin is decidedly darker than the other origins. If you want to use your stuff here offensively this origin is the easiest way to get to do just that.
We start off with the 100 CP tier perks. These are named Turning Toon and Auditory Engineer. TT is a perk that lets you turn objects and non-sapient pets into toon objects and toon pets, granting them toon abilities and the advantages and disadvantages of being a toon. This also lets you grant your alt forms toon forms, giving them the advantages and disadvantages of toon-dom. You can also copy your toon stuff and give it to other people without losing it yourself, letting you hilariously bolster the survivability of something like an adventuring party you’re a part of. AE gives you a grabbag of audio abilities including a great singing voice, the ability to record and playback things you hear, and very importantly the ability to edit what sounds you make when interacting with stuff so you can make yourself completely silent or make a gun you fire sound like someone singing “Happy Birthday”. AE is a remarkably versatile perk that is capable of all sorts of shenanigans in the right hands.
At the 200 CP tier we see one of most internally potent perks of this whole jump, Not So Funny Anymore, as well as a very fun perk named Personal Gravitation. PG lets you dictate how gravity affects you and a small area up to ten feet around you. This is a simpler, smaller, weaker version of the aura perks each of the origins of this jump has, and foreshadows it’s wrecking ball of a more expensive friend, Personal Physics Phorce Phield. NSFA is the perk that I’ve alluded to various times throughout this post and the post about the General and Human perks and items that allows you to fully unleash the horrifying potential effects of cartoon physics. With NSFA you can toggle off the effects that make toon-abilities inherently non-lethal, allowing you to do things like drop expanding anvils on people and actually crush them, or have explosives created by toons actually… well, you know, explode people. This is the perk you want to grab if you want to have the ability to well and truly fight foes using the powers you get from this jump.
At the 400 CP tier we’re starting to see some of the big boys. We start off with the aforementioned Personal Physics Phorce Phield perk which is this origin’s auric physics perk (the half-toon equivalent of Mudnane Mondays and Toonforce, and of course having those perks makes this one bigger in range and allows the effects and bolster each other) which makes your abilities immune to bizarre in-universe modifications, such as anti-gravity devices or anti-magic fields. With this you can always use your abilities barring something like, for example, a drawback. If you’re going to a jump with a lot of ways to handle something like magic-users this will be very handy, as an example of the neatness of this perk. Montage is a quick travel perk, one that allows you to traverse any distance within 1 AU (astronomical unit) in-jump with a total travel time of 15 seconds (which is how long it takes you and whatever you’re taking with you to fade out of your current destination and fade into your target destination) so long as you have memories of where you’re going or have a picture, or video of the place you want to go to. This is a VERY powerful teleportation perk in modern settings, or once you have strong enough data-gathering stuff, or psychic abilities.
Moving along to the 600 CP tier we’ve got Medium Shift and Halfway to Comedy. HTC is a genre-perk that lets you shift the genre of wherever you’re going by adding the “Comedy” genre to it. This ups the survivability of many settings, and tones down a range of darker elements, making many settings decidedly safer and potentially even more fun for the right jumpers. MS is a perk that lets you make real-things toon-y and toon things real, with how complex the things in question are affecting how difficult this process is for you. You CAN use this on people and toons to turn them into toons and people respectively, though I imagine the process would be quite difficult barring other perks amping you up.
The capstone perk in this origin is Everybody Outta The Inkwell, which is a perk that allows you to use your own lifeforce as a fuel to create toon objects, toon pets, and toon food. These creations are intrinsically connected to you, but these connections can be severed by your creations (well, by pets, not by objects or food), and so long as the connections remain active this can allow you to sense their condition and hear their thoughts (and vice-versa). This is a fantastic, less resource-heavy method of creating toon pets, objects, and food, than “Animator”, even if with this you cannot create full blown, capital T toons. You decide the personalities and behaviors of the pets you make during creation, and can modify what you create, physically at least, with a touch. You possess the ability to absorb your creations, but in-jump this is considered murder after the 1950s.
The items for this origin being with two 50 CP tier items named The Brick Joke and the Acme Catalog and Lifetime Acme Instant Delivery Guarantee. TBJ is a cartoon brick that you can use in a range of ways, even without NSFA, such as to make someone the butt of a joke, to defend a friend by stunning people attacking them by making the brick rain down on them, use it to deliver notes to friends, and of course if you have NSFA you have a simple, infinitely reusable weapon. ACALAIDG is a catalog you can use to purchase anything Acme ever made, that you can purchase with any sort of currency and have delivered to you nearly instantly. This includes mundane objects and things from past jumps (the sort of stuff you could purchase in local stores), which could be incredibly handy if you, for example, visit a mundane jump and then go to a historical jump before the invention of guns. Or axes.
The 100 CP items are named It’s A Gasser and The Rubber Eraser. IAG is a gas cylinder that can contain nearly any gas you want to have in it which it can then dispense in unlimited amounts from a nozzle affixed to the device. With this there’s all sorts of mischief you can get up too, including and especially crimes you can commit with impunity while you flaunt this device. TRE is a much more dangerous thing, potentially, that you can normally use to harmlessly erase walls, doors, and even body parts on realistic beings. This is, by default, temporary and harmless, but NSFA can make this a grisly way of killing someone.
Once more we’ve hit the tiers of items where there is only one tier in each category. For 200 CP we get Permanent Ink, for 400 CP we get Ink and Paint Job, for 600 CP we get The Spanner In The Works and for 800 CP we get Rule(r) of Funny. PI is an ink pen that you can use to make toons and other things immune to the effects of eraser, and other acids and bases. IaPJ is a large amount of somewhat magical paint and ink in an oversized paint roller that can be used to quickly give a large area some level of toon-based protection by both granting things painted by it the ability to self-heal and also some measure of a toon’s durability.
TSITW is a spanner (a type of wrench) that gifts you with a toon’s unique skill at speedy construction and even faster destruction. With it you can construct things as quickly as a 12 person crew could, and it’s a sort of omni-tool that can turn into whatever it’s wielder needs. Additionally you can use it to destroy all sorts of structures and machines in a single blow.
The capstone item of this origin is ROF which is a measuring stick with a little crown on top of it. This object has all sorts of uses related to assorted applications of the rule of funny. If you need to defeat an invincible foe and dealing a blow to it that successfully damages it could be comedic, such as if the enemy is in need of a good face-slapping, if you use the ROF you’ll penetrate it’s invulnerability and leave it vulnerable for sometime after. Your friend is cursed to be at a place and at a time where’d you much rather go with them to a local comic’s latest show, you can use the ROF to overcome their fate. There are also other uses, like leaving this inside of a place to slowly enlarge the location, and actually just using it as a sort of supernaturally potent measuring stick, even protecting you from getting lost.
This origin is fascinating since if you want offensive stuff this is where you go. From perks like NSFA and items like the Gasser, this origin is interesting for jumpers ready to fight and win.

Conclusion

This jump is stacked with fun ways to interact with future worlds. From the theme park you can be the master of to the fact that some of you will leave here with the ability to turn your best friend’s dog into a toon pet, to the fact that some of y’all will now have a wrench they can do a lot of pranks with, this jump has stuff for everybody. I’d love to hear about your favorite things to take from here and what you’ve done with the toys this jump has given you.
I really like the defensive options here, but I know some of y’all probably want to mix some toon stuff with half-toon abilities to allow your jumper(s) to weaponize their seemingly fun-based powers. A warrior who goes from this jump to others will definitely snag some stuff to take and use both immediately and longer term. A hero type jumper can do so much with Acme Acres and a businessman can accrue a TON of power with all of the Acme items they can get their hands on. I hope my series on this jump has given you new appreciation for it and some ideas of fun, silly combos, or even fun, powerful combos you can build to have new fun when you visit new worlds empowered by this masterclass of an idea-jump.

2024.02.15 22:26 NumberOneUAENA Favorite, truly special mvs

I'd like to know everyone's favorite mvs, mvs which are truly special in what they do.
I get that lots of people's first instinct will be to post mvs of their favorite group and that is totally fine but i'd hope that everyone tries to be critical in their choices. For that i'd also want people to add a few thoughts of why they picked the mv, what makes it so good / stand out among other mvs.
I'll start with two videos:
Newjeans - Ditto A & Ditto B, ditto got a two part storyline where the first video sets up an eerie quality under the highschool day to day life we are seeing in a pseudo self-documented way throughout, while the second pays this off in a twist ending. Conceptually brilliant, executed with lot of care and cinematic style while at the same time giving ample opportunity for interpretations. Emotionally arresting even without any link to newjeans imo, i'd say this is one of the best kpop mvs period.
IU - Friday, conceptually far simpler, but nevertheless a really good video due to its filmmaking trick of a (pseudo) one take, meaning there is no visible cuts. I specifically like how fluidly the camera moves around this space, giving us new things to focus on while letting us be with them, increasing intimacy which just fits for the theme here.
So what are some of your favorites and why?
Edit: I'd really like people to invest a little more effort in explaining why they choose what they choose, to truly give people who do not know the mv a reason to check it out / understand what is special about it.
This isn't supposed to be a thread where people do not care to make a real case, pls link to the video too.

2024.02.14 18:38 Klutzy-Locksmith-243 What bike tire should I go for?

Hi, I just recently decided to upgrade some parts of my bike to match a purple-colored theme and I was looking around for some tires to replace my current ones with. I have a 6ku urban track bike as my first ever and current fixie and it is currently using 700 x 25c tires. I found two options that I am conflicted about. The first one is a Premium Duro Purple tire and the second one is a Purple Wanda bike tire. Currently, my budget is around 50 for both tires so in that price range does anyone have other recommendations and if not, which of the two tires I found would be better? For context, I ride mostly on the road which has some gravel and small rocks.

2024.02.01 05:14 IcyWolfWyvern [TOMT] [Video Game] Pokemon Rip-Offs I Played On Mobile and PC

Palworld blowing up made me reminisce about the old Pokemon-inspired games/rip-offs I played during my childhood. Sadly, I cannot for the life of me remember the titles.
When I was in 4th grade (about 2012), I played a “Pokemon”-like mobile game on my HTC Android phone. I can still remember its battle themes but the only useful details I can give is that one of the Mons is an electric scorpion and a large blue whale. One of the special boss monsters was also a chameleon. This mobile game was also played vertically.
I also used to play this flash/computer game that actually didn’t play like Pokemon at all and more like you just sent out your Mons in a team and watched them fight. Also, every time you beat the game one of the bosses gets added to your party in the New Game. These bosses include a shark called Razark (that attacks by spinning downwards and slicing enemies with its dorsal fin) and a robot crab.
The games Mons I can clearly remember is a humanoid gecko that threw cactuses. A mermaid. And a blue wolf that I’m sure sort of looks like Zacian from Pokemon and is one of the bosses.
Similar to Palworld minus the cruelty and explicit slavery, you can also send these Mons off to perform certain duties such as finding food or materials.
I actually have footage of this game recorded on my 3ds.

2024.01.30 06:14 PoomugZ [MOBILE, ANDROID] [2014-2019] Detective point and click puzzle solving game

Platform(s): Mobile (I played on Android, HTC)
Genre: Detective/Puzzle/Escape Room/Point and click/2D/First Person
Estimated year of release:2014 to 2019
Graphics/art style: Flat 2D Cartoony art style with lots of colors but the design of each level/room had a different theme. Here's the design of the two levels I remember. -One level took place in a room designed as an old timey retro 60s badiner. It had a jukebox and a robot bartender. The walls had a checkered pattern and neon blue lights -The other level took place in an anthropomorphic mouse lady's part of the house. Her bath tub was clogged and her three kids wanted to use it. The walls of the bathroom were light blue if I remember correctly.
Notable characters: The main character you played as was an anthropomorphic mouse detective. He wore a dark green trench coat, a hat and had a purple eye(the type cartoons get when they get punched). - The first or second level had an anthropomorphic mouse. I think she was pregnant(not fully sure) and she had 3 kids
Notable gameplay mechanics: It's your usual point and click detective mystery game. Each level is a different room. You tap on an area you want to see and this makes you zoom into that area, you then tap on items and equip them into your inventory. Your inventory is displayed in the form of little boxes at the bottom or top of your screen. As you solved the puzzles in each room you would get access to different parts of the house and you could make your way up the towehouse. You were trying to get to the top of the tower as a drone you were flying got stuck on the top of it. Example: One level you were in a 60's styled dinebar. There was a jukebox in the left side of the room, when you tapped on the juke box it would bring you closer to it and you had to solve an 8 tile style puzzle to get a coin into the juke box slot so it would play music. I think you had to get it to play music to convince the guy in the balcony of the diner to let you climb a ladder in the balcony that would take you to the next room/level.
Other details:
I played this game on my android in 2019
The premise of the game was that you were an anthropomorphic mouse detective and your drone got stuck on top of this house or tower that had multiples floors/rooms and you made your way up the towehouse by solving the usual interactive puzzles.
The game even has playthroughs on Youtube, I know this because I couldn't get past one of the levels and used a playthrough to solve it but it's been 4 and a half ish years since then so I can't find it.
Each level took place in a different room of the house and each room had a different theme and different sort of puzzles to get through.
You had the usual type of inventory you get in these types of games where you can tap on something to collect it into your inventory which is displayed by these small little boxes at the top or bottom (can't fully remember) of your screen
The art style was cartoony and, I'm 99% sure, 2D.
If anyone has any idea what game this is PLEASE tell me.

2024.01.28 02:41 Its_Dannn Help me tie together the used parts I've acquired into my old case (please :-))

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I will be playing games such as Sons of The Forest, FPS like Halo: MCC, Minecraft, and steam VR games (not sure what titles yet but I have an HTC Vive that I never ended up using yet (and if that's too dated to enjoy, I may get a newer VR headset at some point)). I also may try streaming sometimes if it doesn't cause a huge drop in quality / fps, or a huge rise in price point.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
I'd spend up to 1k to make all the components I have work together well, obviously prefer less which I'd imagine it should be
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
ASAP
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
RAM (have 8GB DDR4 right now), CPU cooler, P/S if my current one will not be enough, case if my current one won't work
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Oregon, USA / no microcenters :(
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Will be reusing all of the following unless advised not to: Case: Sentey Extreme Division GS-6000R mid tower CPU: Intel i9-7960X SR3RR 2.80GHZ (Need cooler) MOBO: GIGABYTE X299 AORUS Gaming 7 PRO GPU: HP nvidia geforce RTX 3090 (HP M24410-002) RAM: 2x 4GB DDR4 g.skill ripjaws from 2016 Storage: SanDisk SDSSDA-120G + Seagate 1K9AP6-502 2TB HDD Monitors: Idr lol but a pretty nice 144hz alienware from ~2019 and a garbage one from like 2010 probably Keyboard/mouse/speakers/mic/headphones, can specify if needed but feels less relevant
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
As needed based on performance without overclocking I guess / whether the build supports it
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Am simple Dan. Just want a computer that can run decently nice settings on games at a high frame rate. Feel free to suggest specific features or items that I want and don't know I want
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Wired
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
If my current one doesn't work, I'm up for suggestions.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No, will upgrade later if I need to.
Extra info or particulars:
I have a lot of training and experience on electronic systems, I just don't keep up with PC part stuff at all and have only fully built one personal computer in my life. I.e. I am competent but ignorant.
Also, will be replacing a radeon r9-390 GPU and an AMD A8 mounted on an ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING mobo from ~2015. Any of that still worth anything? (can get specifics on the CPU if needed but PC currently not in a state to boot up (needs a cleanout badly before I turn any of those fans on) and I don't feel like pulling the cooler to read the back of the chip. I remember it being considered pretty high-end at the time, but I know 8 years is a long time in the computer tech world)

2024.01.26 21:06 Its_Dannn Looking to build a PC using my old case (if possible) and some newer parts I already have

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I will be playing games such as Sons of The Forest and steam VR games (not sure what titles yet but I have an HTC Vive that I never ended up using yet (and if that's too dated to enjoy, I may get a newer headset at some point)), as well as possibly streaming sometimes if it doesn't cause a huge drop in quality / fps or a huge rise in price point

2024.01.20 18:48 No_Tale_3623 How to recover deleted files from Android device

How to recover deleted files from Android device
Why Deleted Files from Internal Memory Are Often Irretrievable (non-rooted devices)
Deleted files from the internal memory of modern Android devices often disappear irretrievably due to advanced data management and encryption protocols. When a file is deleted, the system removes the pointers to data blocks, rendering the file inaccessible. Additionally, the robust encryption methods used in modern devices mean that the encryption keys needed to access the data are also removed or become inaccessible, making the data unreadable and practically irrecoverable.

Modern Encryption Technologies in Android Devices and Android data recovery

Modern Android devices utilize the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), supported by Arm's TrustZone technology, to secure data. This secure execution environment operates under the TrustZone Operating System (TZOS), giving vendors the flexibility to implement cryptographic functions.
A notable implementation within this framework is the Android Keystore system, which manages cryptographic keys with hardware support through the Keymaster Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL). In some devices, like certain Samsung models, HAL is implemented via a trusted application in TrustZone, known as Keymaster TA. This application carries out cryptographic operations such as key generation, encryption, and signing in a secure environment.
The encryption keys are stored as wrapped blobs (encrypted using AES-GCM), allowing storage in the Android file system and ensuring they are only readable within the TEE. For more information on TEE and its implementation, refer to Arm's TrustZone technology guide.

Android Data Recovery on Modern Devices: Challenges and Solutions

Recovering deleted data from modern Android devices, particularly from internal memory, is a significant challenge due to the aforementioned encryption and data management methods. However, there are still viable methods to attempt data recovery:
  1. Using Google Online Services:
