Il Était Un Bois (which translates as ‘A Tale of Wood’) is the latest release from venerable niche brand, L’Artisan Parfumeur.
It’s fair to say that, since their acquisition by Puig in 2015, L’Artisan’s catalogue has undergone significant revision. A lot of its most well-regarded (if not best selling) perfumes have been discontinued and the newer releases, while often well composed, perhaps don’t generate as much of an emotional response as their forbearers. Compares the likes of Voleur de Roses, Dzongkha and Passage D’Enfer (all, thankfully, still available) to the more recent Memoire de Roses, Un air de Bretagne and Couleur Vanille and you’ll see what I mean.
Still, L’Artisan remain capable of producing some interesting pieces of work and last year’s nostalgic peach scent, A Fleur de Peche, in particular, stirred something within.
What then of Il Était Un Bois? The marketing brief states that:
The perfume explores all the different facets of the woods in an unexpected harmony. Discover its warm notes of vetiver, sweet buckwheat and cedar
As a description, this did ring some alarm bells with me - how could a perfume that contained just three accords, only one of which was actually a wood, cover all the different facets of the material? Well, the answer, which was swiftly discovered upon smelling, was that it couldn’t. Obviously.
This perfume isn’t a tale of wood - it’s a tale of vetiver and, yes, buckwheat. Given that, the fact that L’Artisan also sought to try and connect the perfume thematically to previous release Merchant Loup (which played with the concept of an enchanted forest) is curious at best.
At this point, however, I will park my criticism because, if you ignore the spiel and focus on the scent, what you actually have is a very pleasant unisex vetiver. Actually, the description for this one should have read ‘what if someone combined Lalique’s Encre Noire with a cereal bar?’ (I expect a call from L’Artisan’s marketing team after this is published).
Damned by faint praise, you might think, but the thing is, Encre Noire, whilst being an excellent take on vetiver, was almost so heavy on me that it practically put a black cloud above my head. I was just one of those people who, as much as I would have liked, couldn’t get it to work on me, and I often wondered how the composition could be reinterpreted for individuals who wanted a bit more radiance from their fragrance. It’s possible perfumer Caroline Dumur might have been working on the same conundrum…and I suppose the fact that she cracked it goes to show why she has a job in the industry, and I’m just someone writing about fragrance!
The buckwheat incorporated along with the vetiver accord brings to mind a sweet powdered flour, and this has the effect of pulling the base notes up by their bootstraps and making the whole composition sing. In short, ‘Black Ink’ is transformed in to ‘White Chalk’ (perhaps the fragrance should have been named ‘Craie Blanche’?). The only downside is that, like Encre Noire, Il Était Un Bois is a relatively linear scent, but its performance is, I am pleased to say, exceptional.
The elephant in the room in comparing these two fragrances is that you can pick up a bottle of Encre Noire for around £20, whereas the L’Artisan release has an RRP of £170 for 100ml, which is, frankly, obscene if not unusual nowadays. I have no mitigating comments in this regard, except to say that Chanel’s Sycomore, which is another more refined take on the Lalique retails at £210 for just 75ml, and it doesn’t perform as well as this release. To some, that will be cold comfort, but if you want a top notch vetiver and don’t mind paying the money, this might be the choice for you.

Hi guys, I’m 26 F. Graduated with a Bs in Biology back in 2019. Worked in a nursing home then night shift in a hospital to get patient care experience hours for school. Read cardiac EKGs for 2 years while fucking around in Colorado.
Moved back home to IL, worked as a project coordinator in tech after doing a few semesters for a Comp Sci post bacc program.
Hated compsci, hated medicine (love the knowledge but man is it sad and the system is fucked and broken, scared for future), hated corporate building vibes.
Liked working in the distribution center, scheduling shipping logistics (part of the project coordinator role was sniping trial products).
Ultimately just want a chill job, low stress, don’t really know what don’t really have huge career goals.
Thinking about trying to go for like Lab Tech or Research Associate or something? Or office coordinator? Idk I love doing misc tasks and running around, also loved shipping things lol and the variety being a project coordinator gave. That said idk how to pivot or where to go and it’s stressing me out.
Any advice? Ideally some job that will still be needed during the recession and eventual climate caused catastrophe??

some context i(f20) was diagnosed with GAD and Major Depressive Disorder around 5 or 6 yrs ago. I'm mainly just venting but if yall have any advice I'd gladly appreciate it :)
so during my Jr year of school, going onto senior year, I worked at a fast food place for 2 months. i actually enjoyed working there, and i onky got yelled at once, and after that i was starting to have some anxiety about the job. I only wanted it to be a summer job. but ended up quiting due to my anxiety making me cry before and after work. I left on good terms and my boss told me that I was one of the best workers he had in a while, and that he would miss me.
my 2nd job only lasted 2 days and it was walmart overnight stocking. I was told by everyone that I joined at the worst time and that I should just quit. 1st day was told I was slow and that I should be done before everyone because I was working with someone (she just came back after a month or 2 of not working) and that I need to hurry bc the store was behind. my 2nd day was told the something, and I decided during lunch that I would not take my last 15 min break because I was put on the toy isle with 3 big pallets, and my team lead come over and told me I need to hurry up. she was talking to some other worker while drinking coffee and laughing, so I accidentally back talked and told her that she could help me if she's standing here talking to me about it. so I quit after my shift.
my 3rd job was at cefco being on the deli on Jan of 2023 and I lasted a month there. the first 2 weeks were actually good, I was working with a friend. then after that I realized that everyone always asked me to do this and that while worrying about my own area. slowly they realized I would say yes to anything and willing to cover anyone in deli that called in, we were also short staffed. those last 2 weeks I was crying from the moment I woke up, off and on during work, after work, and before I went to sleep. it eventually got to me when I started to throw up from anxiety and then I just went up there on my off day and quit. they asked what all they could do to make me stay since I was good, but I told them that nothing would work out. and I didn't work for a year to work on my mental health
now I just started my 4th job, at the same walmart as before, for the janitor position. it's been almost 2 weeks and I already want to quit. the job isn't hard, but I realized that I stress out very easily over everything. when I'm off, I can't seem to rest because eim thinking about work. I also keep going back and fourth with the job. one min I'm like "he'll yea, I think I can last long enought til I can get in a phlebotomist classes and find a job for it too," then literally 5 mins later im crying and i want to quit the job and just end up running away and living in some forrest and fending for myself. I was applying for jobs about 4 or 5 months before I heard back from this job. I honestly didn't want it but my parents were starting to ask when I would work again since its been a whole year already. I was wanting OGP or maybe even the overnight janitor, but they only wanted me for the morning shift. I knew from the interview that I shouldn't have taken the job. I was told that the before me, they had 4 people who didn't last longer than 3 weeks due to attendance. I wasn't sure what to think about it just because why apply for a job and then stop showing up after the first week or 2, but i cant say anything since the longest job i had was only for 2 month. I ended up taking it anyways because my family needs the money, but I'm not really into money like everyone else. I was told that people mainly quit due to the bathrooms, and so far they haven't been as bad as I imagined. it's the unknown about getting called all over the store. this past Friday I was supossed to work with someone else, but he called in sick. I immediately started to go in flight for fight mode because no one was coming in until 1, and I work 7am-4pm. during my first 15 min break, I cried, like really badly. I called my mom and she talked me down and telling me that it's going to be OK. I called the accommodation number but I feel like even then it won't help. I was talking to people in a support group, but I didn't feel any better afterwards. I'm tired of feeling like this, I know it's just my brain and how it overthinks and overreacting to anything. everyone has been so nice and telling me that I will last long because im good at this job and it's only been 2 weeks. I know this is new job anxiety, but I can't help but wanting to leave. I just want to last long enough to get some money to try phlebotomy and see if that's a good career for me.
it's not like I don't want to work, I want to help my parents out and to be able to be on my own, but if this keeps happening then I don't know what I'll do with my life. I've been told everything and tired everything to get it under control, but I guess my mind and body was born this way and I can't do anything about it. I'm not too big on money either, I do want a few things but even then I probably won't get it. I felt great during the year I didn't work. my mom had injured herself and I ended up doing almost everything around the house. I took my brother to work, made his lunch, and get him food or anything he needs. my sister is in college so I would take her to and from college, took her to any place she had to go for college. I took both my siblings to our appointments or took them shopping for whatever they need for work or school, or if they just wanted to get out of the house. I would go do the grocery shopping, take care of my other cousins (ones in high school and the other is in chandler), went with my dad a few times to his work when he needed help, take my cats to the vet. I pretty much did everything besides cook, but the last month of me being jobless, I was learning how to cook more from my mom, and just did anything that needed to be done.
I was wanting to work and was applying like crazy and never getting a call or email back. I thought I was ready for a job since I felt great mentally and physically, but now that I have one I feel like it was a big mistake and should've just waited for another job to call back.

I recently got offered as ASM at Chicago, IL. Pay was around ~50k base salary, bonuses, and RSUs.
I do think that can base salary is quite low. Is it worth it to pursue this career? I heard the job environment is demanding and difficult.

Hey, I'm back again. Thought l'd hop on Reddit and ask again about some help! To make a long story short, a coworker of mine introduced me to her landlord. He owns a property that he rents for significantly cheaper than what I pay, and it's not in the expensive city of AVL. He showed me around and his previous tenants had completely wrecked the place, and left without notice. We talked for a bit and he said he did already have some friend of a friend who has already offered to come by start of next week and pay the deposit, but won't move in until it's tidied up. He offered to me if I could make the deposit before that, the place would be mine, and we cut a deal that if I clean up the joint, when (and if) I move in he'll waive my first months rent. So personally now, without this post I'm making, it's either I jump forward and go with this guy, which I think will benefit me profusely in the long run, but then I won't be able to pay my current place on time. And the issue with that is l've been late for the past few months due to having to change jobs. Last time was my last warning, so I can't be late again or I'lI have to be out June 1st. ^{I'm going to potentially move into Evanston IL with some friends to be closer to my job, but would still visit friends and family out west for like 3-4 days in a week, every 1-2 weeks (I work 3 days in office}. I'm thinking of just keeping a car at my parent's driveway while I get around Chicago via public transit (i've lived in chicago for the past 8 months, so im pretty familiar with getting around via transit). Should I go ahead and just find an old used corolla for less than 6k, and replenish my savings in the next 2 months that I'll be back living with my parents or hold off? It’s a beautiful summer day, warm but not overbearingly hot nor humid, and you figure it’s a good time to take care of the grass. You get out the lawnmower, rev it up, and go along slowly cutting swathes through the overgrown green… then suddenly the stupid fucking machine breaks down. You stop for a moment, contemplate kicking it, and attempt to restart. Through some small miracle the mower does return to function…for all of three minutes. Then it sputters out a mechanical wheeze, leaving not only the job half-done but also your afternoon plans.
Much like your lawnmower, starting pitcher Garret Whitlock can only handle so much of the role designed for him. He’ll graze through at least most of the front yard, but that’s as far as his cranky body can handle before breaking down.
Don’t believe me? Here’s a look at every single major league start by Garret Whitlock and how he followed up:

2022
The Red Sox granted Whitlock a short leash to open the season, as in his first two starts he threw a combined 109 pitches across seven innings. It was in his third start that the training wheels came off, and Whitlock celebrated with five dominant innings, giving up only two runs on a home run and striking out nine Angels. However he struggled mightily against the Braves in his next appearance, giving up three runs in as many innings, striking out five but also walking four (he did not walk a single batter in his dominance of the Angels).
Two more middling starts followed before Whitlock tossed another quality game against Baltimore—two runs allowed in six innings with four K’s and only one walk. He actually followed this up with an even better performance five days later facing the Reds, six innings without a single earned run allowed, no walks but strangely also no strikeouts. Anyways, the Angels got to Whitlock six days after that, whereupon he hit the injured list for the next month. When he returned, the Red Sox likewise returned him to his bullpen role, where he stayed healthy and productive until the last two weeks of a lost season.

2023
The Red Sox again attempted to use Whitlock as a starter to begin the season, and in his second start he once again trounced the Angels in seven innings of three-hit ball (two walks and five strikeouts). And once again, Whitlock struggled in his very next start and hit the injured list for a month.
Returning in late May, he pitched well in five innings against the Diamondbacks, was knocked around by the Rays to begin June, then gave the Sox two consecutive quality starts in which he pitched a combined 13.1 innings, 13 strikeouts, 2 walks, and 180 pitches. It looked like he was finally setting in to becoming a starting pitcher, perhaps even an ace.
Unfortunately, despite going seven innings in Minnesota Whitlock struggled (eight hits and four runs allowed), then had the worst game of his career against the usually punchless Marlins, battered around for eleven hits and six runs. After pitching the first frame in Toronto on July 2, Whitlock went on the injured list for a month. When he returned, the Red Sox likewise returned him to the bullpen, where he was both healthy and productive through the end of the season.

2024
The Red Sox once again attempted to use Whitlock as a starter to begin the season, and he fulfilled this trust in at least his first start against the Mariners with five dominant innings. Unfortunately, he struggled against the Angels in his second start (no runs allowed but four walks and four hits in four innings, albeit also four strikeouts), and after a decent outing against the Orioles he exited his fourth start early, which is where we currently are today.
My prediction at the time was that Whitlock will hit the injured list for the next month or so, whereupon the Red Sox will attempt to put him back in the rotation. He’ll pitch well for a handful of starts, pitch six innings in one of them, then immediately break down again. When he returns a month after that, he’ll be put back in the bullpen for the rest of the season. So far he has in fact been on the IL for the past month.

First off… I DO LOVE HIM SO MUCH
But my God this guy cannot land the damn plane on a project or task to save his life.
The biggest issue lately is that we moved into a fixer-upper. The house is great, but we’ve lived here 13 years and stuff still is not done. When we first moved in there was a lot of work to be put in and instead of going at a slower pace like I wanted to do and taking our time and choosing quality finishes, etc. he wanted to rush everything just to get it done with the promise of upgrading later. And he always wants to use a friend or acquaintance to do these construction projects. I’m fine with using (licensed) friends but sometimes you need to just call in a crew and have them knock it out instead of your friends taking 25 weekends as a side job.
This led to a lot of issues in the beginning that I’m still dealing with now. We have a big empty converted garage that has everything in place to become a granny flat/IL suite. The bones of this project were done five years ago. We just need to frame out the bathroom and get the plumbing and electrical and do all the finish stuff, same with the kitchenette.
Three years ago I was like hey maybe we should get on this and get it done, because we have a lot of stuff lying around that is a component to that room, like boxed up cabinets, bed frames not put together, bins of kitchen items that can go in cupboards once they are installed. And the room has become the catch-all and looks like crap.
So that time he says sure let me call my plumber friend. Calls plumber friend who says he will come by “in a couple weeks” to check it out. Couple weeks go by, no one shows. I ask him to call plumber again. He does, schedules a day, plumber no shows. I ask him to follow up. He doesn’t want to bug him. Ok fine.
Life happens, we are busy. A year passes.
Ask him to call another person to come take a look. He calls another friend. They say they will come check it out and have some free time to complete it. Great. That guy no shows. Call again, he’s totally going to come today and get a quote. He actually comes, measures, says he can start next week. Great. Next week comes and crickets. I ask him to follow up. He forgets for 3 weeks. Now friend has started a 6 month construction project. Husband wants to wait for this person to do the work. It has now been a year. I still have an empty room. Husband says “well I can call Dave again and see…”
A different friend comes by. Says he can do it in a weekend. Sounds good. It’s been another month. I am done with shenanigans.
I measure, order the shower and hardware, the vanity, toilet and door. I clear out the room. I have a contractor coming today. Husband is upset because “I said I was going to take care of it!!! I’m just waiting on (first plumber who he hasn’t talked to in 2 years).” Also thinks the whole job should be completed in 2 days for $3000 including materials. Anything else is obviously someone ripping him off.
Then our deck has water damage. I called someone out in September before it got any worse. It’s a large deck, a lot of work to fix and re-coat. The quote is $5000. Husband thinks that is too much to rip apart the deck, replace rotten wood, and waterproof. I tell him to find someone then. He says he will. We got record rain this winter. The deck is worse. $5000 guy is now coming back this next week before it infects my whole house. Husband is mad, it costs too much, and he was totally gonna find someone else to do it.

My (M34) MIL called my wife (F28) about a week ago and told us that my FIL would be willing to buy us a house. Not just any house, but my wifes childhood home. The house is located near my ILs and some other relatives of my wife. Around 40 minutes from our current home. At first they tried to offer it to my wife only and with a condition that we get a postnup that covers it, but we shot that down quickly. Now they might be willing to buy it and rent it to us. I'm feeling somewhat pressured to say yes while I have absolutely no desire to move away from our current home and area.
Thing is, we already own our own house (50/50 ownership) that I (until now I thought "we") adore. We moved here about 5 years ago from our college town because we both got great jobs here. Our kids are in a fantastic daycare and we have everything that we need around 5 minutes away from us. Also my family lives nearby. I'm not ready to walk away from this to pay rent to my ILs or whatever they might propose next.
My wife has voiced some concerns about our current house and we have a timeline to fix everything (bathroom remodel, painting the house ...) but now we are offered an easy way out as she would put it. The offered house is in great shape and also obviously holds a lot of sentimental value for my wife but also for my FIL who had it built originally. I honestly don't know if it would ever really become a home for me.
What should I do? How would you try to avoid resentment from building up? I can't currently see a way to avoid that, no matter what we decide. Thank you all.

My workplace (MA-based) has a non-exempt hourly employee (IL-based) who is planning to attend a weeklong professional development workshop. Attendance at this workshop is not required by my workplace, but we are paying the cost for them to attend. However, my boss and I are trying to understand how to approach this situation in terms of paid time.
I consulted an older post about FLSA requirements for paid training time and found the following:
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), an employee does not have to be paid for training time only if all 4 of the following criteria are met:
Attendance is outside of the employee’s regular working hours; The employee’s attendance is voluntary; The course, lecture, or meeting is not directly related to the employee’s job; and The employee does not perform any productive work during the training.
If any of these 4 criteria are not met, then the training time must be treated as work time. This means the employer must pay for the time and must include the training time in total hours worked when determining overtime pay.
In terms of this workshop, it meets three of the criteria (i.e. attendance is voluntary, it is not directly related to their job, and they will not perform productive work during the training).
Where things get tricky is that the workshop runs from Sun-Saturday, from 8 am-6:30 pm. The employee's normal working hours are M-Thursday, 8:30-4:30 pm.
My question is how we should consider paid time during the workshop? Are all hours spent at the workshop considered paid time, or just the hours that fall within their normal working hours? Similarly, is attendance on days that the employee does not typically work, but technically fall within their regular working hours (i.e. 8:30-4:30 on Saturday) considered paid time? Similarly, is the employee's travel time to this workshop considered compensable?

I know it’s not nursing but I figure nurses would know, Is it difficult to become a CNA if i do a program? I'm really nervous. I graduated recently with my Bachelors in a completely unrelated field. (I went to his house this was when i was around 11 or 12 ) i had went to his house it was a nice big house with 4 rooms a pool and the whole thing while me my mom and my 2 brothers and my 2 uncles and there families where living in a 3 room apartment to say i was jealous is an understatement but i keep my cool especially since i had not even seen him much since he had spent his whole time in his room wich was weird cause he had said over text that he wanted to have a talk bu wtv after all that i was annoyed especially since i had told him i was going to miss a day of work if i went to see him(since it was summer and i would work with my uncle ) but he had told me he would take me to get my hair cut and would give me my days worth of pay and at the end he didn’t even have de audacity to take me to get my hair cut but anyways at the end of the day i never needed him

I was talking to someone the other day at a conference, and they were complaining about their tenure-track job at a small college in a small town which was around 50 highway miles from the nearest large city. They were not sure how much longer they could last, having to live almost an hour from Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and a Thai restaurant. (And yes, the stereotypes are real).
Of course, it's not just young millennials who get themselves all twisted up having to live so far away from their Starbucks and their avocado toast. Certainly, our minority colleagues must find it extremely challenging to be one of the only POC's in their department and also in their small town, and the same would apply to those of different religions, sexual orientations, and so on.
This got me to thinking: what is it really like for faculty and staff who live and work at truly isolated colleges? Here are just a few examples:

• Sul Ross State University (Alpine, TX): over 3 hours to El Paso, TX.
• Northern Michigan University (Marquette, MI): over 3 hours to Green Bay, WI.
• Michigan Tech (Houghton, MI): 3 1/2 hours to Green Bay, WI.
• Western Illinois University (Macomb, IL): almost 2 hours to Springfield IL.
• Deep Springs College (Deep Springs, CA): 3 1/2 hours to Las Vegas, NV.
• Montana State University Northern (Havre, MT): 4 hours to Billings, MT.

I'm thinking specifically about the US, but I welcome input from all over.

I ended up going to the ER this morning because I started having lots of cramping and pressure as well as spotting after work yesterday (around 3pm) and it was still happening this morning. I was moved to a new position at work yesterday that required me to lift up car bumpers (just the plastic pieces no other components but they are still pretty hefty) and noticed the cramping and pressure towards the end of my shift. While I was having light contractions while being monitored, they aren't progressing anything so they're more Braxton Hicks than anything.
Later on in the afternoon I went to my regular OB appointment and told them about my trip to the ER this morning due to cramping and bleeding.
My doctor gave me a lifting restriction for work as she thinks that was what aggravated my symptoms and wants to keep it from happening again, obviously. I currently work in an automotive factory as a temp (very close to being hired on) and I'm extremely worried about it now. I'm worried they will let me go as I'm "not able to perform all aspects of the job" due to the pregnancy. There's nothing there considered light duty except for a few office positions, but they are all full all the time.
So now I'm scared to turn in my paper because I'm worried about losing my job. I live in IL and it is an at-will state. Would they legally be able to terminate me due to this?

Hey, i am a minor whose been struggling their whole life with a bunch of stuff, and its only worse now, all my mental ilnesses have catched up to me and my mom has gotten way way worse, i dont know if im even doing this right i just need someone to talk to other then all my online friends, I've been homeschooled for about five years now with no way of having any social life and barely ever getting to go out, no vacations or anything, the most that happens is my cousin coming over once every few years, i have no way of getting to go out and i cant make friends in online school because i don't relate to any of them and they're all really rude for some reason, with the topic of school, i have been serverely struggling, and my mom wont leave me alone about it, she constantly comes into my room and screams at me for it, its gone to the point where if i hear someone by my room i just think its her and when i hear her voice i already know shes gonna yell at me, i even sometimes have hallucinations or bad nightmares about it, and some other past experiences too, i can barely do school and all my school does is give me more work when im already struggling, and they constantly email her which makes her more upset at me, ive told her ive been having trouble and they wont stop giving me more work but she doesn't listen to me, ive tried to attempt multiple times and shes even saw my self harm cuts because ive talked to a counselor about it when i was in person school and all she did was yell at me for it, even when my friend was over, now im scared to ever talk to any adult about this, i have none to talk to this about to even, ive even told her about the SA my cousin did to me and she didnt care, but she constantly makes innapropiate remarks to me like "youre gonna get trafficked if you wear that" and i barely even wear revealing stuff, i wear oversized sweaters usually, i hate showing my skin, i just hate my body, theres no point in even wearing anything "good" if i cant even go out right? i dont want to be by her. i really dont. she makes me feel scared and uncomfortable and she constantly treats me like i dont have emotions, i cant even talk to a therapist because she has to be there and always talks for me, and i dont want to. the only people i talk to this about is my online friends, and well, lets just say having your life always online isnt the best. and im not even talking about posting or anything, im talking about it being your ONLY life, i constantly get messages from pedos and i dont even know how they found me, and my friends are mentally ill like me and constantly tell me theyre gonna kill themselves, and that scares me so bad, i dont want to loose the only thing i have. my mom threatens to take away my internet and in fact she did once for two years, so i had no communication at all for two whole years, and one of the reasons i have such a trouble with school is because i helped my little brother who cant read with school for a year so i couldnt focus on my work so i was basically learning nothing, and i was already struggling since school is confusing for me, its hard to focus and get stuff, i feel like i need it to be explained in a way that i can understand, i dont even feel normal, i hate living a life that i cant control. the only actual comfort i have is my cats and theyre always in cages or outside, because we have a ton of cats and my mom wont give them to homes that will actually take care of them. she doesnt even have money to get them fixed. and on this topic of my home life, my mom has never been good to me, in fact shes been really neglectful all my life i even have memories of physical abuse and it still sometimes happens, sometimes she refuses to take me to the hospital, and i remember my dad hitting us with belts while we were naked, but my brain always tries to block this stuff out, and it was always for little stuff like crying too loud. and we always got shamed for crying too loud, i even remember my aunties telling me it wasnt normal for my mom to treat me like that but they never actually DID anything. i also remember my older sister being kind of sexual twoards me, and shes been doing weed for as long as i can remember, she also drinks achohol and my mom buys it for her since she has no job, i remember a lot of traumatic experiences with her drug use, i remember having to hide achohol from her with my mom and constant yelling in my house when i was younger, now its calmer since my moms almost always at work but when shes home shes either sleeping or yelling. i also have traumatic experiences with my online friends, ive gotten groomed multiple times, and i remember multiple of my friends killing themselves, even my REAL life friends have left me, the only one i had that still stayed left about a year ago. i still self harm because i feel like i have to be punished for everything i do, i talk to older people online because they make me feel safe and cared about even if they just want to see my body or talk about sexual stuff with me, i just want to feel. ive had so much physical, mental, verbal, and sexual abuse all my life, i am so close to just ending it all, i really dont want to do this anymore, but my friends make me feel guilty because i dont want to leave them, the only purpose i actually have is to make them feel happy. i want to do good in school but its basically impossible, if i even ever reach the age of an adult i want to be a phsycologist or a surgeon because i want to help people because ive never really gotten help in my old for my body, but sometime im just some scared kid who wants to feel loved and know what its like to have a parent who cares. i dont know if thats too much to ask for. i used to have a cat outside that i always talked to like it was a human it was my only friend and id go outside all the time and stay out there for hours everyday, i miss her so much because it felt like she actually understood me, it felt like someone did care, i remember when my mom told me she died due to a accident i was so sad for years and i couldnt do anything but cry everyday because of it. i dont feel like i belong anywhere. ive had eating disorders and i still do. the best thing thats happened to me in a while is finanlly getting a room, my sister cleaned out a room that my grandma used to be in so i could be in it since i just used to sleep in the living room with no privacy at all. so i have a place to finally have privacy, even though my mom just bursts in here a lot witout knocking. im just happy i have privacy. i know i have more to say but i cant even think of it right now, my brain feels so foggy, but i dont know if anyone will actually read this, its just a bunch of my stupid thoughts, i dont know. i just want to be gone

I had registered and took all required hours for a phlebotomy certification course over a year ago and just had to pay a balance to sit and get the Certification but I just never went through with it because of my discouragement with my lack of confidence and ability to feel comfortable or get more successful draws then my peers who seem to get it more naturally. I was so excited to train and ultimately work as a phlebotomist. But I just always struggled with finding the vein. When I would feel for one amd press down and around to get ready to collect i would just keep pressing down and move my fingers around the area nothing felt obvious enough. I felt others who were learning just like me just made it seem so easy and simple to do. I probably did maybe 4 or 5 draws out of 15. And half the ones I did get the instructor had to be very hands on also verbally guiding during those successful draws. I started to feel like it really just for me because I just struggled the most for the most important part of it which is finding the vein. How could I expect to work as one if this is how training goes. Amd shadowing or externship are required or common in my state so I can't do that. I see alot of people feel a certain way in the beginning and they always say it takes time and alot more pokes but I just want to know from experienced phlebotomis if it REALLY is just something that comes from alot of time and practice and not all but most people who keep going eventually get it? Do the struggling unexpeirnced co workers you came across eventually get it? I really want to go back and give it a shot but I just can't help but feel it's not for me because of my inability. Any tips on how to get more acquainted and better on my own time and outside the class setting? What job setting or shift should I start if I decide to take it up and not be too overwhelmed and uncomfortable right away?

Hello there. I'm kind of new to aos. (40k player discovering the game)
I wanted to play orruk because ork ork ork, and specifically Ironjaw because 1) their models was cool and 2) if I only play ironjaw I won't have to many models to buy to get the whole entry of my army
I currently got two time the start collecting, a maw crusha, anvil smasha and a brute box, but I've played 2k pts with proxy
Here what I've learn
Big waaag rules seem better than ironjaw rules, so I mostly play this.
Hardboyz are pretty resilient, but also costy.
Brutes seem to be best for chaff (5brute will screen equal to 10hardboy while costing 140pts instead of 200)
Ragerz and weirdbrute are my damage dealers and hit pretty strong for how not so costy they are
Warchanter are mandatory
My best game was against a draw against skeleton army without nagash, it was 3 time "6 ragers behind 10hardboy" wich forced le to play safely and I lacked of objectives controls, but I could have played it more agressively IMO
Last game was against Oggor on kind of mamouth and it went pretty hard I'l on a 100% forfait against this army
I've tried to play 2times weirdbrute behind brutes, and a big pack of 30 hardboyz. Bunchof buffer characters. No maw crusha
My game plan was to take control of mid with my 2*2 brutes, and throw my hardboy swarm and hold an side objecive. Sadly the scenario was the pulsations objective that moove around the map, soI had to play it more mobile and focused on middle map.
It went pretty bad because I don't managed to deal his big mamouth
He went into my 5brute chaff and cleared it as intended, I throw 6weird brute full buffed on him, glory hour + roarr, I removed around 8hp, I losed my weirdbrute wich could seem normal due to the mamouth being two time the weirdbrute cost
But I realised it letted only 6weirdbrutes remain to manages his mamouth tyran, his other mamouth tyran, and his mamouth priest.
I've trolled the game for their was no sorcerer around hardboyz to throw magic shield, but they kinda did their job to prevent ennemy getting on an objective, but I'm not sure it was worth 600pts
I'm not sure to get what's the best from brutes and hardboy. Brutes seem to be hardboy but less resilient, and hardboy are pretty tanky, but because of their cost I'm not sure how much I want to reunforce them.
Gore grunta are mobile but struggle to clear something without warchanter, I don't know what I want them to do in my list (screen? Reinforced with a warchanter to damage deal? Scoring?)
So here I am, full of questioning about the uronjaw army
I wonder if ant of you could learn me something about the battletome (for exemple, how to deal something that is more lethal and more résilient than my maw crusha?)

I've been playing my first journeyman save in FM. Normally I pick a team and manage them to greatness, or, you know... give up and start a new save.
This year I wanted to try something new and it's been great! I started as a sunday league footballer with the most basic licence to be a manager and jumped into the job market.
First job was Dalkurd from a neighbouring city in Sweden. They were in the third tier of Swedish football, and I took them over as they hovered on the brink of relegation. First seson I stable the ship and get them to a top half finish. Second season we get promoted to the second tier.
First season in the second tier, after some good recruitment, and we're fighting for promotion. Last match of the year we need to win to secure promotion. We lose... but so do the second place team. Off to the top division we go.
During this entire time though, the board has adamantly refused to give me any new coaching badges. We're maintaining a decent position in the top division, but half way through the season it comes to a point, and I threaten to resign unless they can grant me funding to improve my coaching badges. It ends with me resigning and looking for a new job.
It takes a couple of weeks, but in July 2026, IL Hödd in the Norwegian third tier offer me a position. They have a lot more money than Dalkurd did, I'm guessing it's all down to the oil.
IL Hödd is in a decent league position, I think their old manager left them rather than them firing him. I spend a bit of their money and get them some good, younger players. I manage to win the third tier in my first season with them and get promoted in 2027.
I sign some good players in the winter transfer window and decide that maybe this will be a long term project. They've also granted me a few coaching licenses so all is going well.
Then, in the summer of 2028, Bristol City wants an interview.
Now, I've been trying to make "realistic" decisions so far, and Bristol City are offering a lot of money. Also, they are in the Championship so it's a big step up, and will let me get a foot in the English league. With a heavy heart, I accept.
The Bristol City squad is full of old players with an attitude, and it's a bit of a fight to get them out of the club to free up wages and money for a transfer budget, but in the end I win and start the rejuvenation process. The marquee signing though, is a loan of Lucas Bergvall from Manchester United.
I break the transfer spend record in my first summer transfer window, €14.5 million spent, but I get some quality players in who are in their early to mid 20's in, with potential to improve.
The club situation is helped in part by a decent FA cup run where we end up beating Everton away 1 - 0, and in January the transfer total is up to 21 million euros. It pays off though, and Bristol City secures a top spot promotion to the Premier League, led by player of the year Bergvall, goalkeeper of the year Alex Palmer, and manager of the year, yours truly.
The Premier League, 2029/2030, the hallowed lands. I strengthen the squad buying Alfie Dorrington, a promising English centerback from Tottenham for four million. I secure Bergvall on a permanent deal and pick up a French wonderkid midfielder called Emmanuel Lebreton for a total of €60 million euros, an insane amount of money compared to my previous transfer windows. The both end up carrying the team for me, well worth it.
The Premier league is a different beast. We struggle a lot this season, sometimes it looks like maybe we'll get relegated but finally we end up in a solid mid table finish after some tinkering with new tactics. The high point of the season though, is the Carabou Cup which we manage to win, in part thanks to some unlikely wins, along with a lucky draw. This means we qualify for our first European adventure.
2030/2031 - Europe
At the start of this season I find the two best players I have found so far in the save: It's spaniard Angel Cañedo and frenchman Nicolas Duboc. Together they form a fearsome partnership with Angel on the wing providing assists to Duboc who can't stop banging the goals in.
It's another rough season in the Premier league, but we're never in the relegation fight. We're solidly upper mid table at this point. The Conference League goes amazingly and we end up winning the whole thing without any real issues, beating Roma 8 - 2 on aggregate in the semis, and Real Hispalis 4 -1 in the final.
2031/2032 - Europa league
This is the season where the plan is to push for champions league. The squad is ready, and the youngsters have become more mature. A few signings bolster the holes in the squad, but then, right at the end of the transfer window, Bayern swoops in an pays the release clause for Angel Cañedo. 109 million euros. It's a bit of a blow, and I can't find a good enough replacement before the transfer window ends.
The season does go better though, we're starting to make a claim to the top four spots, and the Europa League is going well.
Then Atletico Madrid fires their manager and asks if I want to take over.
I've built something special with Bristol City, and honestly, both the money and the players I have are way beyond what Atletico can offer. But it's a big club and a tempting offer, and a chance to rebuild something of a sleeping giant.
With a heavy heart, I resign at Bristol City, wish them all the best, and join Atletico Madrid.
2031/2031 The Atletico Madrid retirement home.
Holy shit, what have they been up to? The star of the show is 32 year old Fèlix, the rest are around the same age but not as good. Chilwell and Jurien Timber are decent but getting up there in age. They have two decent young players, and a minimal transfer budget to start the cleanup operation.
The new manager bounce is real, and I get them from 12th to 4th in relative short order. Barcelona seem untouchable, as well as Real Madrid, but the rest of the league is there for the taking.
They are in the champions league as well, and it goes alright and we qualify from the group in spite of a few losses from before I took over.
But then things fall apart. We lose at home to Benfica, 0-3 in the first knockout leg. We lose five games straight in the league. I try different tactics but nothing works and it's starting to look bleak. Morale is plummeting, then finally I stumble on a recipe that works and manage to claw my way back to the Champions League spots just in time for the season to end.
Now it's the first summer transfer window after I took over, and I am looking forward to rejuvenating the squad and see how long it will take until I can challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid for the title. I got rid of 35 year old chilwell and replaced him with an argentinian wonderkid from Leeds who had a relegation release clause. I sold Jurrien Timber to saudi arabia for 62 million (fans were very upset). I wish I could get rid of Félix but I expect the fans would have my head for that.
It's starting to look alright for the next season. The rebuild has started, and I expect I will stay at Atletico for quite a while.

Purchased a 3 unit multi-family a couple of months ago (I live in one of the units). I inherited tenants in both of the other units. They are pretty easy tenants. The last owner did not raise rent for 7 years and now their current rent is about $800 , per unit, under the market rate for the neighborhood for building units that are virtually the same- I have made several upgrades to the building/units (about $15ks worth).
My question is how much is to much to raise rent? I want to bump each unit up about $400 per month (which is still significantly under comps for the neighborhood).
I would like them to stay but this is an investment and I can not subsidize their rent just because they got a sweet deal for the last 7 years from the previous landlord.
EDIT:
a few things I wanted to add bc I got tired of answering the same questions.

1. There is no rental increase limit in IL OR Chicago. In fact IL passed a law in 1997 specificly banning a cap on rental increase caps for the entire state.
   
2. The only code for rental increases is around the amount of time you have to provide the tenant of the notice based on the amount of time they have lived in the unit.
   
3. THEY DO NOT PAY $800 PER MONTH. They pay $1,100 (per unit) which for my neighborhood is about $800 under the market rate for a 3 bed 1 bath (which is what my units are).
   
4. To all of you who have never owned rental properties and clearly just want to give me shit for wanting to raise rent. Fuck off. I'm not being greedy for wanting them to pay 3/4 of what they should be paying. I'm not a charity. If you are pissed because you are still renting and have no control over your cost to live some where frankly you can suck it up and be pissed at your landlord ( you entitled fucks). Don't want to be subject to the rental market changes? Buy a house. We saved and worked 3 jobs for YEARS To make this investment.
