Looking for anyone with experience with solensia! My 15yo senior kitty has been having some back troubles for the last couple years but is otherwise a healthy 15lb boy. Usually we were able to treat his pain with prednisolone but once that stopped working we had to look at alternatives. After trying several different combos (gabapentin, amantadine, oral tramadol) we have landed on the solensia injection, transdermal tramadol, and he also got a steroid shot as well. After the first solensia injection we saw quite a bit of improvement, but he also got the steroid at the same time. It was so nice having our boy back. Appetite was good and he was jumping again and doing the stairs (although we try not to encourage stair use) About a week before the second injection (today) he had started to slow down a little and his appetite dropped when he started sneezing some. We suspect seasonal allergies and his steroid wearing off. He got checked out today- no fever or respiratory infection and he did get both the steroid and solensia (I’m sorry I don’t know which specific steroid I would have to ask our lovely vet). He did extremely well throughout the day following me around and mainly just napping. As of this evening he is not feeling well at all :(. He’s hiding in his usual place when he’s not feeling well (our spare bathroom on the rug where he hasn’t been in several weeks), and just seems a little out of it. He did eat some treats earlier and has peed in his litter box twice. I’m curious to know if anyone’s cat has had this type of reaction with solensia. He had a little food when we got home and some treats just a few hours ago. I should add that he did dry heave a few times but I know that nausea is a common side effect so I wasn’t too concerned about that. Of course it’s 8pm and our vet is closed, although I do have a message sent to a friend who works in veterinary care. Any advice/support appreciated!

Touhou Cast Discussion: Perfect Cherry Blossom Cast (+IaMP)
Perfect Cherry Blossom. This game is where Touhou starts feeling like, well, Touhou. While EoSD introduced the new setting of Gensokyo to the Touhou series, PCB is where the series starts defining it's world and it's lore. Having said that, how do the characters in this game stack up? Well that's what we're going to discuss today.
Just a quick note. We'll also include Suika in this discussion. Even though Immaterial and Missing Power canonically takes place after Imperishable Night, the former is labeled as the 7.5th game in the series, as in, it's supposed to be a follow up to PCB. So I think it's fair game.
So without further ado...

Letty Whiterock (What Winter Left Behind)
A Yuki-onna who serves as this game's first boss. Letty is only seen during the winter; as spring arrives, Letty goes into hibernation. She's very cold towards humans, and is known to freeze any she comes across.
My Thoughts: There isn't really much for me to say about my feelings towards Letty. She's a Yuki-onna who hangs out during the winter, and leaves during the following seasons. She's commonly depicted to be a guardian towards Cirno, despite canonically not liking being grouped with the ice fairy. Of course, I like to imagine that Letty is fine with Cirno and fine with being with her; It's just that she doesn't like being compared to Cirno, considering how weak fairies usually are in Touhou. Other than that, there's not much for me to say about Letty. You'll only get the chance to run into her at the beginning and end of each year, and that's about it.
Fun Fact: Letty's name is actually a reference to Lettie Blacklock, a character from one of Agatha Christie's book: A Murder is Announced.
Chen (Black Cat of Bad Omens)
Chen is a nekomata youkai and the shikigami of Ran Yakumo. As Ran is also Yukari's shikigami, that means Chen is also subservient to Yukari as well. Chen is also very close friends with Rin Kaenbyou. The two are known to play often, and Chen even picked up the habit to offering corpses to Ran from Orin, much to the former's chagrin
My Thoughts: I don't take as much of an interest in her as I do Ran or Yukari, but I still think Chen is an alright character. Thinking about it, I think Chen's song has the shortest loop of any stage boss theme in the series. It probably doesn't even take a minute to loop... Of course, having said that, while I am fine with Chen, I want to say that I really can't stand that one Chen joke. Y'know the one. The one where someone (usually Ran) yells Chen's name often accompanied by a nosebleed. It just get's very irritating, y'know? But putting that aside, like I said, Chen is an alright character to me.
Alice Margatroid (Seven-Colored Puppeteer)
A doll-controlling-magician who lives in the Forest of Magic. While aloof and self-confident, she's not above showing kindness towards others, as she's willing to let lost humans lodge at home for the night, and is willing (albeit reluctant) to help her neighbor and rival, Marisa Kirisame.
My Thoughts: You might have noticed that I've been holding off on talking about her and Yuuka in the PC-98 discusion post. That's because I wanted to save them for each of their respective Windows debuts. Having said that, here's my view on Alice.
As you may know, I'm not too crazy about Marisa or Patchouli. But out of the witch trio, I'd say I like Alice the most. Mostly for her personality. She's aloof, self-confident, and not afraid to speak her mind or battle someone if the challenge presents itself. But she's also timid, choosing to hold back out fear of what could happen if she were to lose while going all out. Above all, she's kind, and not afraid to helps others, especially if they're human. Don't get me wrong, she's no saint, but still, she's probably one of the kindest people you'll run into Gensokyo. Like with her fellow stage 3 boss, Meiling, it's honestly a crying shame that people misinterpret her in fan works, by either making her a Tsundere or even a Yandere for Marisa when Alice is so much more complex than that. Plus, some of Alice's more unpleasant traits usually surface when she's interacting with Marisa anyway. I'm not saying that they don't have some level of respect for each other. Canon has shown plenty of instances where they do. But still, you can't deny that Marisa usually brings out the worst in Alice.
Lily White (Fairy Herald of Spring)
The Mid Boss of Stage 4. Lily White is a fairy who heralds the coming of Spring. She's know to spray danmaku as she announces Spring's arrival, but it's more out of excitement than aggression. Lily is one of the friendliest characters in the Touhou series as well as one of the youkai who is the least hostile towards humans.
My Thoughts: I got nothing. Her sole purpose is announcing the arrival of the vernal equinox and that's it. Also, Spring is somehow the best and worst season at the same time. The scenery in Springtime is absolutely gorgeous, especially in certain regions of the world. Plus the temperature in Spring usually just right. Not too hot like in the Summer, and not too cold like in the Winter. Now why is it also the worst? One word. Allergies. Having to deal with pollen in the air is the WORST. But now I'm just rambling on about Spring instead of Lily.
Bottom of the line? Lily's not so noteworthy in my opinion. Also Lily Black is literally just Lily White but she's cosplaying as the Yama. Sooooo, yeah. Next.
The Prismriver Sisters (Three Poltergeist Sisters)
This trio of poltergeist sisters are skilled musicians who are popular among youkai. These poltergeist were created by Layla Prismriver, who based them off her late older sisters after their father, Count Prismriver, died in an accident. Even after the 4 sisters died, the poltergeists take refuge in their ancestral home to this day as they continue to hone their music skills.
The sister in black is Lunasa. She's the oldest of the sisters and plays the violin. She's very calm and reserved, but also quite melancholic and pessimistic, due to her honest personality being taken advantage of in the past. The sister in white is Merlin. She's the middle sister and plays the trumpet. Merlin is very upbeat; she's never seen depressed. However, she does have a habit of becoming obsessed with anything she's interested in, to the point where it becomes a mania for her. The sister in red is Lyrica. She's the youngest of the sisters and plays the keyboard. Lyrica is very clever, but also very lazy. She prefers to try and get her to fight for her while she sits on the sidelines and snarks.
My Thoughts: As a whole, I kinda like the idea of the Prismrivers. Three siblings who perform music together. Plus, personality-wise, they're pretty distinct from each other. I have heard some theories that in-universe, they're responsible for most of the songs you hear in Touhou Project. It's honestly quite an interesting explanation. The three are pretty close in my opinion, but if you were to ask how I'd rank them... I think I would say Lunasa, Lyrica, and finally Merlin. They're still all pretty good, even if none of them are one of my all time favorites of this game.
Youmu Konpaku (Half-Human Half-Phantom Gardener)
Youmu lives at Hakugyokurou, the shrine that oversees the Netherworld, and serves as Yuyuko's right-hand-woman, being a gardener, and swordplay instructor. Her two blades, Roukanken and Hakuroken, are said to be able to cut through almost anything as well as confusion, respectively. Youmu is straightforward, diligent, and loyal to her mistress, but said straightforwardness makes her easy to be manipulated by those around her, especially Yuyuko.
My Thoughts: For a while, Youmu was my favorite character from PCB. If you don't count Reisen, then she's certainly my favorite out of the main human protagonists. And I still do like Youmu a lot! She's cute, she's cool, and she's also a bit of a dork who ironically is afraid of ghosts. The whole "cool" factor for Youmu might be played up a bit in fanon, but I personally don't find it a big deal. Plus it's usually not at the expense of any other particular characters in the series (*cough cough* Sakuya). Also, there is this one Touhou fan game (Koumajou Densetsu II: Stranger's Requiem) where she's voiced by Ryō Hirohashi, who, as you may know, is the current Japanese voice actress for Sonic the Hedgehog's Miles "Tails" Prower. What does this sorta minor fact about one fangame have to do with me liking Youmu? I don't know, but being a Sonic fan who also likes the fluffy little two-tailed furball, that fact just kind of appeals to me.
Bottom-Line? I like Youmu. She's one of my favorite characters in the series, and for a while, I actually preferred her over her mistress, Yuyuko.
Yuyuko Saigyouji (Ghost Girl in the Netherworld Tower)
Yuyuko is the Ghost Princess of the Netherworld and an old friend of Yukari Yakumo. During her lifetime, Yuyuko possessed the power to control the spirits of the dead, however it eventually grew into the power to kill others with just a thought. Yuyuko was so terrified by this that she committed suicide. Despite her tragic past, Yuyuko is very cheerful, playful, and friendly, for a ghost. She's also a notorious glutton, and likes messing with her servant, Youmu. Though it's clearly all just in good fun. Despite her gluttonous and seemingly airheaded nature, however, Yuyuko is also capable of being extremely knowledgable and cunning. Possibly even more so than Yukari herself...
My Thoughts: As I said, for a while, I did prefer Youmu over Yuyuko. But after a while, I think I actually prefer Yuyuko over Youmu now. They're both in my Top 10, don't get wrong. It's just that I think Yuyuko actually has more going for her in my opinion. Let me put it in this way.
Yuyuko is the Epitome of Beauty. She has a beautiful design, a beautiful personality, beautifully graceful fighting style (see fighting game sprites), her song, Border of Life, is beautiful, and Yuyuko has one of the most beautifully tragic backstories in the series.
I didn't really think too much of her before, but after thinking about it some more, I feel like Yuyuko could actually be one of my favorites in the series. Right up their with the likes of Meiling, Utsuho, and Reisen (more on the latter two later). It's just a shame that like with many of the characters in the series, Yuyuko suffers with the problem of flanderization. In her case it's focusing on her gluttonous trait. It can be funny at times, but still, there's more to Yuyuko than just eating anything and everything.
Ran Yakumo (Shikigami of the Gap Youkai)
Master of Chen and the Shikigami and Righthand Woman of Yukari Yakumo. Ran is a former resident of the Animal Realm and an associate of the notorious Yuuma Toutetsu before the latter become the leader of the Gouyoku Alliance. However, Ran started to become disgusted with the realm's beastly ideology and left for Gensokyo. Eventually Yukari found her, and the gap youkai made Ran her shikigami. Being a kitsune (or a shikigami possessing the body of a kitsune) that possesses a full set of nine tails, Ran is a very wise, old, and powerful youkai. She's powerful enough to have a shikigami of her own, Chen.
My Thoughts: I didn't think too much about Ran before. I liked her design, but that was mostly due to me liking the aforementioned Tails from the Sonic Series who, as you may or may not know, is actually based off of the legendary kitsune. (I still like to joke about Ran being Tails' long lost ancestomother. Lol.) However, some time after UDoALG came out and expanded on her backstory, I think I've grown to like Ran much more. I think her history is Yuuma is interesting because of the possible scenarios you can make with them. What kind of scenarios? One word. ANGST. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, and I am sure that the two are still pretty close friends (at least I've read that Yuuma still treats her as such), but still whether you view them as former friends or even exes, the fact that they've gone in drastically different directions in life coupled with the fact that Yuuma is unrepentantly evil and (along with her rivals, Yachie and Saki) intends to conquer Gensokyo for herself which Yukari and Ran would not approve of, I can imagine it could cause a rift in the two's friendship. I just think it's interesting to explore the concept of how their circumstances could impact their relationship.
As for Ran's theme, Necrofantasy. It pretty good, even if I prefer the theme most associate her with Charming Domination ~ Who Done It? (I personally associate with the Yakumo family as a whole), as well as Yukari's theme Necrofantasia (which is a remix of Necrofantasy). In the former's case, It has this sort of climatic feel to it; As if you're in the final stretch before facing off against Yukari, with just both of her shikigami's (or at least Ran) standing in your way. It's one of if not one of my favorite stage themes in all of Touhou, especially the PCB Version.
Overall, Ran might be one my favorite characters from PCB, besides Yuyuko and Youmu.
Yukari Yakumo (Youkai of Boundaries)
A legendary youkai sage who serves as Ran and Chen's master and is able to manipulate boundaries. Her gaps allow her to travel almost anywhere, including the Outside World! Yukari is rather whimsical and lazy; She spends most of her time asleep, and in her waking hours, she likes to mess around with those around her. Despite this, Yukari is an extremely powerful youkai and is also very cunning. Because of how well informed she is, Yukari is a master planner, and is able to manipulate events and the people around her to get what she wants. Because of her unpredictable personality, many humans and youkai alike tend to avoid Yukari. Nobody knows what she will do next...
My Thoughts: Yukari. Yukari, Yukari, Yukari... My feelings toward Yukari are... mixed to say the least. What do I mean by that? She somehow manages to be incredible (in terms of power), attractive, annoying, insufferable, and scary all at the same time. I'm not going to bother explaining that second thing, so let's talk everything else.
I say she's incredible because she just goes to how powerful Touhou characters can get. Yukari isn't the MOST POWERFUL character ever to exist in fiction, or even the most powerful Touhou character, but she still comes very close to it. She's able to manipulate boundaries and borders. Do you know what that means? In a nutshell, it basically mean she can practically do whatever to heck she feels like. She's more or less a reality-warper. In a series where two vampire kids can manipulate fate and destroy absolutely anything, respectively, a ghost princess who can control death itself, a fairy tale princess who can manipulate eternity and the instantaneous, and a pet hell raven who make miniature stars, Yukari's ability is still pretty terrifying. I'm not saying all of Touhou's characters are nigh-unstoppable gods who can destroy anyone in a fight to the death, but still, and I say this as someone who watches Death Battle and has seen what kind of crazy stuff that characters it's featured can do, Yukari is the epitome of a cast whose more powerful characters are even capable of destroying most of Marvel, Dragon Ball, and even DC Comics casts, when they're at their fullest potential. Now how they'd fare against toons is another story entirely, but my point still stands.
Why do I say Yukari is annoying and insufferable? Well, let's just say she's not exactly the best person to be around... She's lazy, she's a prankster, and when she isn't one of those two things, she most likely has an ulterior motive in mind for taking an interest in you; like you being a part of her plan or something. She's unpredictable, but I'd say that's the whole point of her character. She can easily alternate being the ultimate good in a situation and the ultimate evil in another. Of course, I will give her credit. Everything she does is for the good of Gensokyo and for maintaining it's balance. So... yeah. As reiterate my ultimate good and evil point, she's not this justice-upholding hero, but she's not some cold and heartless villain either. She's could afford to treat Ran better though... And to stop being so sensitive about her age, at least in fanon.
Above all though, when you think about it Yukari is actually pretty... terrifying. As I said, she's one of the most powerful characters in Touhou, and maybe even all of fiction. And even if she isn't the latter, she's smart and cunning enough to outwit beings who are stronger than her... she's also aware of everything that goes on in Gensokyo, and while I imagine it's not easy to do because of how carefree she usually is, crossing her is basically a death sentence, so you have to watch yourself if you happen to cross paths with her even if she starts to get on your nerves. As if that wasn't scary enough, thanks to her gaps, Yukari can go almost anywhere, including the Outside World. Of course, she's just a fictional character, so there's no way she could actually show up in the real world, but still, the idea that Yukari could very well show up where you live at literally anytime, is terrifying. Especially if you take one of ZUN's comments about her separating Gensokyo from the real world at face value.
So what does all of THIS say about how I feel about Yukari? She's kinda weird. Her boss theme is pretty cool though.
Suika Ibuki (Tiny Night Parade a Hundred Demons)
Another old friend of Yukari's who has the ability to manipulate density. Suika is your typical oni. She has a love for drinking, partying, and fighting. She also possess the strength of an oni, being able to single handedly throw large boulders, and hates cowardice and dishonesty, even though she's slightly less honest than most oni. Suika herself is a happy-go-lucky fellow and can act as childish as she looks at times. However she's also very observant and can be rather critical of others at times.
My Thoughts: I'll make this shorter. Between her, Yuugi, and Kasen, I say I prefer Suika the least. She's not a character I dislike, she's just not one I hold much interest in. I do like her theme from SWR, Broken Moon though. It's pretty groovy.
Overall: I think PCB's cast is a step up from EoSD's. I don't really care too much for Letty or Lily, and Chen and IaMP debut, Suika, are just alright to me, but everyone else is a pretty interesting in their own right. Alice, The Prismrivers, Youmu, Yuyuko, Ran, and yes, even Yukari, have at least something about them that makes them pretty interesting to me, even if they're not a favorite of mine. I think overall, the PCB cast has this "je ne sais quoi" about them that I find very interesting. This game is where setting-wise, Touhou starts becoming more like "Touhou" as we know it, and I think these characters (at least most of them) really drive home that point.

I have made a conscious decision not to drink. One of my family members has kidney disease, and may require dialysis within the next few years. I believe I will live my best life by not drinking. 2024.05.13 17:10 Chibioosah Excessive face rubbing to fall asleep and waking up causing contact dermatitis. How to stop the face rubbing?

About a month ago my 4 month old began rubbing her face like mad to fall asleep. So we just hold her in our arms till she falls asleep cause she doesn't rub her face when we hold her. But at times I don't have the time to hold her for extended periods till she falls asleep so I need to put her in the bassinet and she self soothes on her own by rubbing her face and she falls asleep. Usually near the end of her nap she will also begin to rub her face a lot too. All this face rubbing causes her eczema to act up and it takes days to get it under control again.
We put soft 100% cotton mittens on her and she still rubs so aggressively that it causes a flare up. We don't want to chance it with going mittenless cause even if we file her nails really really short and we don't feel any sharp edges she still somehow manages to scratch herself. We cannot swaddle with her arms on cause she can now roll. We feel like we have exhausted all the options we have to prevent her from rubbing her face. Have any of you gone through this and discovered alternate solutions?
We already saw a doctor about it and they had prescribed us a topical steroid which did work but once she slept she rubbed so much that it would come back again.
I understand that it is a self soothing thing for babies but I worry about the doctors constant recommendations of topical steroid to get the flare up under control. We tried giving her pacifiers and she still opts to rub her face a bit to self soothe. But she doesn't always want the pacifier.
We don't think it's any food allergy passed on through breast milk. Her skin always gets super red and inflamed after night sleep where husband and I don't monitor her. During the day she sleeps in our arms and it gets so much better.

Hello, dog world! I was hoping to get some advice from anyone who has had a similar situation with their furry. My chocolate Labrador, who is 4 1/2 years old, has been suffering from severe allergies, leading to excessive nose itching that sometimes causes bleeding. I've already removed chicken from his diet, and he's been on apoquel for over a year. However, the vet advises against long-term consumption due to potential kidney issues. It unaffordable to be paying 90 dollars for a 30 day supply of itch medication.
Does anyone have any recommendations for supplements/probiotics, alternative food options, or general advice to alleviate his allergies? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey y'all -
For the past few years (About 3 years total now), I've been dealing with constant mucus in my throat, making life tough and speaking difficult (However, I have no issues with nasal congestion/blockage or troubles breathing. My only symptom is in my throat). I had been diagnosed with an allergy to dust mites, but whatever I do I still feel a constant drainage in my throat. Even when I'm in rooms filled with dustmites like attics, I still feel no change in severity whatsoever. It's beginning to make me question if my allergy to dustmites causes my throat problems. Alongside this, I've tried immunotherapy, taking allergy medications like Zyrtec (2 a day) and Claritin, nasal steriod sprays like Ryaltris, Flonase, and a few other OTC and prescribed sprays, and natural alternatives like acupuncture and neti pots/xylitol spray.
Looking over other people's post with similar symptoms like mine, I had seen a common reoccurrence of people mentioning Silent Reflux, so, I got tested for silent reflux and the test showed up negative. I had also got tested for deviated symtpom/nasal polyps/other nasal abnormalities and that showed up negative, and I got tested to see if it were a bacterial infection, which that also showed up as negative.
Do y'all have any advice or ideas as to what I can dealing with? This condition has definitely plagued my life, and any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much for reading this, and if you have any questions or need me to clarify anything, then please do say so!

Where can I buy some (online links if possible please)? Alternatively, if I find chickens-raised-around-cats locally, how can I make it? Any other tips on introducing it to the cats' diets? Many thanks in advance!
Backstory: My cousin has cats and agreed to test the egg yolk diet on them, and then after a couple of weeks of them eating it she'll have me over to test if it truly prevents fel-d1 production. Ultimately, I do want to adopt a kitty so this is just to make sure if it'll work for me or not.
My family and I are HUGE cat lovers. When I was around 9 and my sister was 5, we adopted two kittens and they lived with us for about 2 years. Unfortunately, we had to give them away due to the severe allergy that I developed (I have no idea why or how. 2 years I was fine until I wasn't!)
I've accepted that cats and I are not meant to be and, altough heartbtoken, accepted that I'll just have to admire them from afar. Now, we have discussed cats time and again, but it would always end in "well, OP would have to live on the sidewalk!" and it ends there. I can't even visit my cousin, anyone who houses a cat really because I come in contact with their fur and I break out in red rashes, itchy eyes, sneezy nose, the whole shebang.
Recently the egg yolk powder discovery has been circulating through our social media and now I think I can dare to hope we might adopt a cat. Apologies for my rant but I've been hung up on wanting a cat for so long having a glimmer of hpe just sent me onto cloud 9 (hopefully this doesn't end in failure, lol!)

This is for all of my other parents and care givers out there who spent countless hours googling, reading reddit, consulting medical friends and coworkers, experimenting and stressing… my daughter will be 12 weeks tomorrow, and this past week… the grunting stopped.
The grunting stopped!
Info: my husband and I are in medicine, but not pediatrics so we know enough to be dangerously obsessive with reading and researching but not enough to speak from experience. My daughter is breast fed and otherwise healthy, normal so I’m not addressing babies with existing issues medically.
Grunting was the bane of my existence. I’m not talking active sleep or occasional noises. I’m talking like, leaf blower level guttural noises coming out of this little person that had me stressed beyond belief. It was all night every night, only at night, and worse after a night feeding. Specifically 3-7/8am it sounded animalistic and personally I felt like she was straining or struggling and mentally/emotionally it was so incredibly taxing. I cried a LOT thinking she was suffering. But she woke up normally every time, no signs of issues during the day.
It began around 3 weeks where I called the pediatrician and they said it was reflux. We elevated her head in bed with a wedge under the crib mattress which resulted in her sliding down but I was too scared to not do it because I was hanging my hat on the coincidence that sometimes she didn’t grunt as bad. Until she did again.
I was worried it was her immature GI tract so we gave gripe water, gas drops (before every feed) and again, sometimes it helped until it didn’t.
I thought it was my breast milk and a foremilk imbalance that was making her gassy so I dumped the foremilk by pumping and feeding her that way. Wasn’t that.
I thought it was the swaddle she was fighting so we tried alternatives which made her startle and awaken and was just a disaster.
We did all the gas exercises. We elevated her 20+ minutes after every feed. We even got to the point where they wanted to test her for a milk protein allergy and put her on reflux medications at her 2 month visit. I began Evivo probiotics at the same time which made her less gassy and her poops more chunky but I can’t truly say it changed the grunting.
And then it stopped. On its own. Last week at 11 weeks old. To this day I have no idea what it was.
So in hindsight I realize all of the accounts of “they’ll grow out of it”… I’m here to tell you, 2am scroller, it does (given no other medical issues with your child). You will get through this. Earplugs helped. You are not a bad person for blocking it out. Save your sleep. I personally started with happy ears/noise dampening ear plugs but that was a joke when it came to the grunting.. I switched to full on noise blocking ear plugs and pulled them out halfway so I could hear her cry. It saved my sanity. Also white noise. And I have no clue what it was to this day, neither do I know what the heck her witching hour is. But it begins to slowly fade away and one day you go “oh my god the grunting is gone!”
You can get through this. I just wanted to share solidarity and reassurance. Here for support.

Since October 2023, I started having problems breathing, especially while lying down, I also have a sense of pressure at my larynx, which gives me a sense of constriction, especially when I need to yawn or when I go to bed.
I also feel particularly tired, especially during low-intensity activities such as walking, I have problems falling asleep, as I have a constricting sense in my throat, and sometimes, I wake up at night, usually, I need to stand up to help the passage of air.
As time passes, this condition is not improving, I would say that this sense of pressure is only getting worse.
I had a lung x-ray and it found 0 problems, I visited a pneumologist, and my breathing capacity was above average, I also had a visit to a cardiologist, who also found a perfectly healthy heart after a full checkup.
3 weeks ago, I visited an otolaryngologist, who prescribed me Esomeprazole for GERD, as a first therapy for my problems.
This didn't help, at all, after 20 days of therapy, I had no improvements whatsoever.
I'll certainly go back to the otolaryngologist to find alternative solutions, still, I'm hitting at nothing, any hints on what this could be? Any checks that are worth to be considered?

30F, 144lbs, 5'6. Only medication ATM is prenatal and Progesterone.
Alright, so brief history. I am allergic to sulfa meds, morphine and rocephin. All of these will illicit anaphylaxis so it's not fun. I am also 9 weeks pregnant. I recently went to my OB who said I may have a UTI but didn't prescribe anything at the time. That was Thursday. Today, it is far less manageable and I'm really feeling the symptoms so I went to urgent care. As per usual, I listed my allergies. The doctor came in and told me I did have a uti and he would prescribe me Keflex.
I've never been given Keflex before so I went about researching it and found that it is the same general class as Rocephin. I'm terrified to take this pill but I'm absolutely miserable. I'm debating just taking it in the hospital parking lot just in case.
I guess my question is if this will likely throw me in anaphylaxis or if they are distantly related enough for it to not be an issue? I know my options for treatment have dwindled with being in the first trimester, as I usually take macrobid but apparently that isn't recommended until the 2nd trimester. Any insight is appreciated.

It is generally accepted that eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection may reduce the risk of the development of gastric cancer. Recommendations for global generalized tests and treat all individuals detected positive for H. pylori infection are currently proposed. However, the bacterium is commensal and harmless for the vast majority of the infected population. Moreover, eradication may have detrimental consequences in several groups of patients. In the present review, the current epidemiological data and recommendations for eradication in connection with the possible beneficial effects of the colonization with H. pylori in diseases such as asthma and allergies or chronic gastro-intestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease and Barrett’ esophagus are presented the problems with increasing antibiotic resistance were also examined. Specific groups of patients where eradication of H. pylori may be necessary and endoscopic surveillance is advised were identified. Finally, based on the paradox of high H. pylori prevalence and low gastric risk as reported for areas of Africa, Asia, South America, and Greece, alternatives that may replace the widespread eradication of H. pylori with equal if not better results and more prudent use of the available financial resources are proposed. I take prescribed Symbicort (80/4.5, two puffs twice daily, occasionally I only get around to taking 2 or 3.) This is for asthma. I have been taking Symbicort for two years now.
Albuterol: as needed, so not very often anymore, maybe once or twice a month.
I also have seasonal allergies that prompt me to take Nasonex, or Claritin as needed. At most twice a week for either.
No recreational substance use, tobacco, marijuana, alcohol, nothing, clean as a whistle. However, I do consume energy drinks in moderate amounts, 3/4 or a full monster energy in the mornings, but not immediately before runs (anymore). I don't use pre-workout either.
Primary complaint:
I've been in the running and lifting space for around to years now, but I began noticing problems roughly one year ago, when I joined cross country. My coach insisted on early start times, and he even pushed me to run much further and much faster than I had ever before. Two miles when my prior greatest distance was one mile, 8:30/min pace when my training pace should have been 10:00/mile. So I would wake up after like 6.5 hours of sleep, chug a monster energy, take two inhalations of Symbicort, and one or two inhalations of albuterol. then essentially sprint for twenty minutes straight, with only around 60oz of water in my system. (Also note that my diet contained a load of sodium, 2500-3000mg/day, but no breakfast) During these runs my heart rate would hover around the 200 mark, and usually peaked around 205-210 every day. During my runs, I would experience some mild lightheadedness, dizziness, and usually chest pains. I would also very frequently run with the taste of blood in my mouth, which I've heard is due to high blood pressure. I'd best describe these runs as "fighting for my life", due to the world of intensity they introduced me to. The lifting alternative to these runs is deadlift maxing five times a day, every day. After these runs, I would be almost dazed, very quite dizzy, lightheaded just short of passing out, and my heart would palpitate, flutter, and skip beats for about ten minutes.
I felt that I was willful enough to run myself to death, considering all these details, so I quit after about a month of no improvement, and my times/symptoms only worsening. After cross country, I found myself winded when doing simple things like climbing stairs, and according to my watch data (GW4) my VO2 max decreased from the high 40s, the year before, to 33-37. I also had a newfound lightheadedness, like when moving from lying down to standing quickly, I would get dizzy, for the first time, I knew it as a phenomenon, but I couldn't relate before then. For about four months afterwards, my heart would continue to palpitate, and skip beats. As of now, I really only see the beat skipping once or twice during runs when I breathe out of sync, still unusual compared to my pre-cross country abilities. I've also found it very hard to make running progress, I have some pretty immense strength/endurance building genetics that make progressing in any physical discipline pretty easy, but now, I find that I've just plateaued in my running.
TLDR: I'm worried that I caused myself cardiac damage last year by running too hard, too far, too long, dehydrated, caffeinated, sleep deprived, and on Symbicort/albuterol. It's still a problem now because my heart rate is always high when running, 180s, 190s even at a comfortable nose breathing/conversational pace. Which for me is only 9-10min/mile. I'd like some advice on this before I rejoin cross country and possibly worsen my situation.

I used Afrin every night for sleep when I was a kid, from about age 9 to 16. Back then I went to see an ENT and they told me about neti rinses and also that I should get surgery for a deviated septum. I didn't get the surgery bc I'm too scared but I somehow got off of it using alternate nostril methods and saline rinses. I can't really remember how it went though.
Since then I've used it only when I have colds so that I can sleep. Never any bad rebound issues after wards until I had Covid in 2022. I used it for maybe a week during that time, and then stopped but my breathing hasn't been the same. My sleep was variable, sometimes fine sometimes inexplicably congested. Finally in spring 2023 I asked my doctor about it and told him my life story lol and he had me try Flonase and breathe right strips. Worked great for the whole year!
Then I had a cold this past February 2024 and for the first time ever DID NOT use Afrin during it. I made it through with lots of saline rinses, especially the double strength ones and just accepting that I wasn't going to sleep some nights. After the cold went away, my breathing has deteriorated more. The Flonase is now hit or miss when I use it before bed. I went back to my doctor and he had me add Zyrtec and azelastine to my routine. I tried this for a week and it helped a bit for sure but I feel really uncomfortable with having to take medication, especially non-topical systemic meds on a daily basis for an infinite amount of time. Also, I don't know if this is a coincidence but I got a gnarly fungal skin infection while trying Zyrtec and azelastine and my mind told me to stop the allergy meds.
Finally, I just bought some Afrin and have been using it to sleep for about 5 nights. Of course, having a 100% clear nose has been heavenly at night but I quickly noticed that now I am STUFFED during the day which was never an issue before. I always have runny nose when I'm outside or eating spicy food but that's it.
Like others here, I have been thinking, I'll just get back on the Afrin, like I did as a kid, because I never needed more than one spray per nostril every night. But clearly things are different now, I'm surprised.
I'm having a lot of mental anguish because as someone who has struggled with serious insomnia and anxiety, I'm trying to weigh the benefits vs the risks of just giving my self nightly rest with Afrin. But I also know the reputation it has and clearly it is making my congestion worse during the day already.
Last night I tried the kids Afrin that's half strength and it only half worked and I had a rough and anxious night of poor sleep. This morning I started back on the Flonase. It's helped me to not be completely clogged, except for when I'm crying (still dealing with this damn skin rash so I'm really in the dumps haha) but I'm still at like 50% air and it feels slightly suffocating.
Anyway, that's a long story but I don't know anyone in my personal life dealing with this exact thing and it is amazing seeing everyone's experiences with the physical and emotional aspects of it here on Reddit. I guess I will try to quit before I get ahead and keep bugging my doctor. He had me get a CT scan last week as preparation for an ENT referral. I also want to get retested for allergies. When I was a kid they said I had dust mite allergy but that's it.

My wife (f38) recently became allergic to all of the 8 major food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans). There is an additional long list of other foods and environmental allergens as well.
She was always allergic to outside allergens, and it was never much of a concern. The food allergies seemingly came overnight and aside from shellfish, were non-existent.
Several visits with an allergist confirmed hundreds of IgG reactions, some symptomless or weak reactions, and others with varying effects. For instance, corn will cause skin rashes that split open over the course of a few weeks after exposure. Soy, pork and sesame will cause stomach ache and dry heaving approximately 6 hours after. Wheat causes a mild body rash that lasts a day or so. Last night a previously unknown food allergen caused sinus itching and eye twitching.
The allergist said because the reactions didn't occur within the hour, it's not an allergy, but urticaria. From my understanding, urticaria is essentially allergies with a different make. She was prescribed antihistamines to take daily and told to avoid all triggers. And that was pretty much it which is why I'm writing.
Has anyone ever had this happen before? Is it a sign of another problem? The allergist just shrugged it off and said sometimes allergies pop up like this. Maybe they'll go away on their own
It's extraordinarily difficult to avoid all the trigger foods. What does long term, small but constant exposure do to your body, health, etc? The allergist said there will be systemic inflammation, and said to increase the dose of antihistamines.
Taking massive doses of antihistamines daily is not ideal, although I am not seeing alternatives. Might there be others?

2024.05.10 14:45 sangcti Insurance denied IVIG

Saw my neuro yesterday. Between our last meeting one month ago when I was first diagnosed I have been admitted to the hospital twice for 4-5 days each with potential crisis (slurring, rapidly falling NIF, trouble breathing, inability to walk more than a few feet stemming from a respiratory virus). last week they sent me straight to ICU totally prepared to intubate but I pulled through overnight on room air and I stayed for 3 days of observation. They would not do PLEX because I was able to breathe on room air and my NIF was 30 even though I felt like death.
So now my neuro said insurance won't cover IVIG unless I fail the medication I'm on now and then upped the dose of everything. Prednisone to 30, going up 5 every week, Pyridostigmine to 90 3x/day and add a 4th dose if I need it but he's thinking about trying 120 if that doesn't work, Mycophenolate to 750 2x day and adding Mepron liquid antibiotic to prevent bacterial pneumonia along with vitamin D and B complex. Mepron is being used due to a Sulfa allergy I have that prevents me from taking more common antibiotics.
I'm really concerned about going to the hospital and getting admitted again. So tired of getting PICC lines and painful blood thinner shots and so many blood draws and scarring my arms. I wake up with enough energy to move around, make tea, make my bed etc then I need to lay down for several hours and need to use a cane or walker to move around the house. Using my phone in bed for too long will eventually make my arms shake from fatigue. Yesterday even with the walker all I did was walk out of my house to a car, take an elevator, walk down a tiny hallway to the neuro and my legs were beginning to give out. My entire body felt like jello, I had a headache and felt like I was dissociating out of my body and I even took my medicine before leaving but it didn't seem to work fast enough. During dinner my mouth and jaw got too tired to chew a burrito by the end of my meal and that's been happening at least once a day now. I can't talk for long because my mouth gets tired, freezes up and I lose my voice whereas even a few months ago I could prattle away all day.
When the Pyridostigmine kicks in I have enough energy to sit upright at the computer for an hour or two and stand for like 5-10 minutes then I get fatigued from sitting upright. Sat in a chair while my sister braided my hair for an hour the other evening and I was totally wiped out even taking breaks. Neuro says I'm still recovering from the cold but idk if I should seek another neuro or try to call my insurance and appeal to the the IVIG because I really want to try something else.

Hello everyone, I’m exploring options for a good canister vacuum with an electric beater that fits within a $400-$500 budget. Living in the countryside, we have hardwood floors with several large area rugs. It seems like adding an electric beater to my search criteria limits my options with brands like Miele or Sebo due to budget constraints.
Alternatively, I’ve considered getting a standalone electric beater attachment. I’ve tried a few turbo brushes, even with my shop vacuum, but they weren’t powerful enough to work effectively on the rugs. Does anyone know of an electric beater attachment that can fit any vacuum hose?
