The players have been made aware of this, and have agreed. This is not meant to be a discussion of railroading.
Each player, some in groups, have had, or will have a private session leading up to the official start. They all start in the same place, against their will. Each character has something unique about them, or valuable, that would be appealing to slave traders. A very popular line of work in this part of the world. With undead being pretty much eradicated, cheap labor had to come from elsewhere. The party are more special than cheap labor.
A orc who wanted to escape the violence of his people and live peacefully. The reputation of his kin follows him everywhere.
An elvish princess, a rare thing in a world where there's around 500 elves left.
A bounty hunter, apart of a very well known clan, who possesses many trade secrets and tools. Many want their revenge.
A pair of twins who stumbled upon artifacts they shouldn't have. Otherworldly powers, and an unfair debt owed.
This corner of the world attracts many tourists for the same reason LA or Vegas does. There is endless opportunity for those willing to work for it, or a life of luxury for those who can afford it. Streets are filled with gambling, and exotics imports from all over the world. Gladiator style areas however is what brings in the most. Warriors from all over to come to show off their strength, willingly or not. For slave traders, this is where the money is. A fighter who can put on a show is a very valuable thing, and why 3/5 of the characters start off as prisoners.
The orc, elf, and bounty hunter are from across the region. Kidnapped for purposes that will be revealed later to them, backstory elements coming into play that made them desirable and worth the risk. The twins are apart of the gang who takes them, but they are not involved with this part. They simple are muscle, and smuggle drugs around for the gang. Session 1 is the first time the twins meet the other side of the business, and it's not for a promotion.
The session starts with the twins arriving to the hideout. Located at an old mining operation in the middle of the desert, it has been fortified and turned into something more. The old gates reinforced to create an area, and the entrance into the mines a jail. Deeper inside has been turned into a temple of Anubis, the prominate god of the area, but not all is what it seems. The twins are brought here to witness a fight. An elf druid, one traveling with the elf princess at the time of her capture is in the area trying to talk an owlbear out of eating with with little success. He wild shapes into a small bird in an attempt to escape, only to be shot out of the sky immediately by a guard with a long rifle. His death is quick, and gruesome as the owlbear does its thing to the prone man.
Afterwards, the twins are escorted inside. Past the jail, into the deeper chambers where they meet their boss. A Dwarvish women who immediately comes across as disliking them. She wants to test the twins loyalty, and this is when the characters are all brought together. The other 3 characters are brought into the room. One by one they are shot by the boss, and brought back by a cleric of Anubis, leaving only the twins left standing. This is just a showing of how she's willing to get her hands dirty, cause the twins want something that belongs to her.
The twins last big job was a heist. They needed to retrieve a silver jewelry box, and they had one rule. Under no circumstances is that box opened. Well, it was, but not willingly. The jewelry box contained a scale of a mercury dragon - dragons are rare, god-like beings here, and a scale like this is akin to an artifact rarity magic item. This Mercury dragon just happens to be the patron of the brother now, as the scale absorbed into him, through no choice or fault of his own. The boss wanted this power to herself, and upon retrieving the box, it didn't appear to be opened. Imagine her disappointment when she found it was empty. The brother was the only one alone with the box.
The sister is presented a deal. Kill her brother, right here, right now. Prove her loyalty without question or they both die. This is the first major decision the players are able to make now. If she pulls the trigger, or not. The boss isn't stupid. The gun handed to the sister isn't loaded. It's simply a test. If both siblings are to be shot, or just the one. The ending is largely the same.
Bleeding out on the ground, the sister, and newly revived party members witness the corpse of the brother forcibly raised from the dead to answer questions. The location of the item in the box. If his sister knew he stole it. Is he still loyal. - my ruling of Speak with Dead is they don't have to answer, but if they do, the answer must not be a lie. He will be brought back, but his answers will determine later interactions. Now, the sister. Every player in the game will have moments in the spotlight. I decided to start with her, as it made most sense, and given the twins background, they will be key members to the party next chapter. She still has the empty gun. If she knows its empty or not will change a few small details. She too is a warlock, and this is the signing of her pact with the Hexblade.
Her interpretation of this place is her own to make. She awakes in a void, and although she is still herself here, she is consumed by nothingness. No pain, no sound, no feeling at all. Not even a heartbeat. Here she meets an entity. A "shadow" that mimics her every movement. It even shifts slightly, becoming a silhouette of herself. When she touches it, it is an overwhelming sense of feeling. Fireworks going off at the tip of her fingertips. The warmth of her blood becoming as hot as the sun, but somehow feels comforting compared to the nothingness shes felt for all this time. Outside seconds have past. Here, it could have been years, or seconds. Impossible to tell. But with this touch she hears a voice reach out to her. "Squeeze". She's back in the room, vision blurry as her life fades. Gun raised, aimed at her boss, who doesn't fear an empty gun. Only, it's no longer empty. This is her new pact weapon. It functions as a gun, but she can choose to shoot normal bullets or eldritch blast from it.
Their escape comes soon after. The hideout is attacked by a Sand Stalker - a purple-worm like creature. Other captives save them, and the campaigns first chapter begins here. They are in the middle of the desert, very limited supplies, uncertain where exactly they are. Few npc trying to get to the capital city to find help. The twins, bounty hunter, and other npc know that everyone who bares the mark of the clan will have bounties out on them, to be returned to their owners. The world in now open to them, as they learn how to free themselves of this debt one way or another.
The slave contract is as good as a deal with a devil. Legally binding, and magical in nature. Each master / house has its own distinct mark to show ownership. Once the debt is paid off, the mark will fade on its own. Their starting debt is 10k gp each. It is meant to be ridiculous. The bounty on a slave is always 10% of their total debt. So, 1k gp to return them if they job is put out, and it will be. If captured the reward money is added to the debt they owe, making it 11k gp now. The system is designed to be nearly impossible to be free.
In the main city there are several patrons willing to help them for one reason or another. Old contacts of the twins and bounty hunter in the party are expected to be called upon. There's multiple escapes from the city I have ready, and I am looking forward to what they come up with. I don't expect them to ever pay off their debt. The main story will later being them back here, when they're ready to take on the challenges of the city in full, and save the world. Standard stuff.
This is a new attempt at an intro. Throwing them into the fire with a clear goal. A long "cinematic" before giving them full control. They all know the stakes, and are in a position of "our chances are better together" apposed from the classic meeting in the tavern and dealing with rats.
Every character has elements from their backstory that matter here, and will drastically effect the campaign going forward. They had all known the basics of the intro, and details where they started prior to making characters. Changes were made to my plans based on their characters, incorporating them into it one way or another. There were always slavers, and they were always going to die. The twins backstories are the only ones from this region and they provided me a lot to work with, and ability to tie them into the scenario.
The boss killing and betraying the twins is a detail I think is very important. The other characters may see them as enemies, so by doing it this way they have common enemies and no secrets about it. Only the sister is not in debt, giving her a few special privilege's while in the city. All the players know each other, have played in other games together, and know what's expected. I am trying to make the party's coming together seem natural by immediately giving them a common problem and no one else to turn to. [BG3 SPOILERS] as the mindflayer parasites provided the main cast common problems, and Out of the Abyss first chapter being major influences. There are many other politics involved also, some sub plots that will come up later that tie to this, and a lot of world lore involved giving insight to why this region functions like this.

Bit of an old product, but it's been agonizing trying to fix this, and this is a solution I haven't seen anyone else speak of online and I've seen some other people speak of this same issue.
My Additional Fix: 1. Open command prompt as an administrator

1. netsh interface ipv4 set interface "Wi-Fi" mtu=1450

This sets the MTU lower than the default 1500, which can lower your maximum network speed (barely, and having it not drop packets constantly does way more for total throughput)
You might have to run `netsh interface ipv4 show subinterface`, and change the "Wi-Fi" to something else.

I created this topic so we could share our opinions on the biggest human threat : DUFAUX !!!
WARNING : FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ GASH BELL 1 YET, THIS TOPIC WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS !!!
As you know, Dufaux possesses an ability called “Answer Talker” that allows him to do pretty much whatever he wants…
1 During the fight against Ropes, he was shown to be able to anticipate any attack his opponents used, and on a way greater scale than Apollo. This only ability is enough to make him a very dangerous human. But this doesn’t stop here.

2 In a flashback of his childhood with the mad scientist, he is described as someone able to find the answers to “some of the greatest questions that plague mankind”, no less….

3 After the first fight against Clear, he appeared out of nowhere, read everyone’s mind and gave them advice that allowed all the nakamas to become monsters in only 10 months. Kanchome went from being one of the weakest crybaby ever to Aizen in only 3 days…

4 Before the final battle, he set up several strategies, I’m refering to Umagon and Sunbeam switching to “Plan J” after the first use of Shin Kuria, to anticipate Clear’s potential moves.

5 80 days before the final battle, he was also able to tell that Clear was “90% healed” and he added that he was worried about an hidden power Clear had. He was not able to read his power level or understand the true nature of Shin Kuria Seunousu, though…

This guy is literally a walking cheat code. And this can be a problem : he has to be nerfed in some way so the plot can progress. He revealed way too many abilities after Zeon’s defeat. Fighting full power, he now really seems almighty. And considering that, as Raiku said in a tweet in 2013, Zeon would end up getting a shin-level spell, how could anyone beat them if they joined forces again ? Could you imagine that ? Full-power Dufaux + Shin-level user adult Zeon is absolute overkill… One thing is sure : this is not going to happen anytime soon… So here are several questions :
- Where is he and how big will his part be, in Gash 2 ?
- Will he ever meet the mad scientist again ?
- Will he and Zeon ever get Baou before Gash probably gets it back ?
Personally, I believe he has a key role to play. As far as we know, Beliel’s priority is to target the humans from the top 10. Dufaux finished 12^th. Him not being one of the main targets is a HUUUUUUGE mistake… Or maybe he has already found him, after he “captured” ( or worse… ) Zeon ? Impossible for Dufaux not to know what is currently happening in the human world… He must have “sensed” something. So, where is he ?
For the mad scientist, I’m not sure he will meet him… Although I would truly like to know more about that man and the weapons he was trying to create using Dufaux abilities and the results of his studies, he doesn’t really seem central to the current plot. Considering how Dufaux hates him, I’m surprised that he didn’t use his AT to find where he lives, after he and Zeon met each other, to give him the Zigadirasu treatment… Plot convenience, I guess. Dufaux would have been so pissed that he would have unlocked Zigadirasu Shin Zakeruga right from the start of the battle…
Finally, Baou… Somewhere on the net, maybe here, maybe not, I’ve read a theory that Beliel would give BAOU to Zeon and use his anger in order to make it evil again without having to sacrifice his own life. I like that theory because it would give Zeon a chance to prove his father wrong once and for all. Also, it would be a perfect opportunity for him and Dufaux to show their growths. No more hatred, no more sad power… These two deserve a redemption arc, to be honest.

Very often less is indeed more.
In the opening scene of Dune: Messiah conspirators convene to plot against MuadDib. It marked the first time Herbert brought out a Spacing Guild steersman in the series. Holding him out for the course of the original novel subtly infused a reader with a flair imposing a figure of ominous presence, nebulous shape and unbounded cunningness.
Instead, we got quite the opposite. It is as if Herbert deliberately tugged all antagonists but one one level down. His honesty adds a zest in that he admits it by projecting his intent onto the thoughts of Scytale, a Tleilaxu mentat, who Herbert seemingly made his talking head.

Scytale smiled, passing a benign gaze over his companions. They were as he’d been led to expect. The old Reverend Mother wielded her emotions like a scythe. Irulan had been well trained for a task at which she had failed, a flawed Bene Gesserit creation.

So much for Irulan, whose input to the decision-making was roughly one per cent, however, at one point in the meeting, Reverend Mother resorted to no less than calling Jessica "a bitch". That's a loss of style and bad optics, especially if the one is at the head of a secret centuries-old influential society, a mental school shaping the landscape of the Universe. What about "the Bene Gesserit way"? The problem is that such a veneer hardly agrees with the aura we were led to believe in "Dune".
Do you imagine the actress who played Gaius Helen Mohiam in Lynch's movie fitting the impression of a laywoman shouting "a bitch!"?
Likewise, the supposedly critical leader of the Spacing Guild was relegated to the backstage and ridicule ("The pontificating fool was their major weakness"). Why did you make him a pontificating fool, in the first place? Herbert gave out his name, Edric. "Edric" alludes to the Nordic legends but does not belong in the Dune Universe. To add insult to injury, "Edric was no more (and no less) than the magician’s hand: he might conceal and distract". Not much.
So far, Lynch was the first and, until the TV miniseries, the only one who added something new to the cinematography of Dune: he showed us the Navigators, something that even Herbert did not, in a way that it felt as a natural extension of the novel.
The bizarre rugged creature with a beak-like hole instead of a mouth, swimming inside a cask, capable of "seeing plans within plans", and the secluded members of its suite emanating the stink of a dead body, imposing weird associations on a viewer – all for nothing? It doesn't connote foolishness.
Herbert was a productive author with an array of brilliant ideas. However, a good writer he was not. He wasn't a master of a word and composition, which his writing betrays. He didn't possess the understanding, often innate, of the sound of words put together. It, sometimes, made his text bulky, entrapped in parasite words, such as "data", and "well", overabundant in certain places, and sunk in unnecessary details. Some constructions reek of a crude and chaotic approach.
Chapter One of Dune: Messiah is a glaring example of this. Twelve years had passed since the Arrakis Revolt before the actors decided on action. Why wait for so long? Even if we consider the seriousness of the premise of the twelve years respite, their remarks would equally fit in the context of one year after the Revolt or zero years.
The scene purports to show us their scheming against Paul as much as against one another. Yet, the way it was executed made their appearance look cartoonish and their characters with no rhyme or reason. Making some characters stand out (Scytale) at the expense of others is disingenuous.
The phrase "Edric took this moment to pop a melange pill into his mouth" is a caricature. The parts
"Idaho’s dead,” Irulan said. “Paul has mourned the loss often in my
presence. He saw Idaho killed by my father’s Sardaukar.”
and
" the spice heightened a Steersman’s prescience, gave him the power to guide a Guild heighliner across space at translight speeds. With spice awareness, he found that line of the ship’s future which avoided peril"
are superfluous because we've already been informed by reading the preceding book.
I'd take a step further and claim that this chapter is superfluous. It's out of place because it nullifies the intrigue. Just like "Dune" started in Paul's quarters in the Caladan Palace, this part should've taken place in Paul's quarters in the Arrakeen Palace. The meeting of the co-conspirators should've never been included. The actions and words of those involved should've gradually unveiled their motives and personas.
And if Herbert couldn't do without him he should've shrouded the physical attributes of the Steersman in mystery, replacing him with a special representative or councillor, similar to how he did this in "Dune", revealing him at the end of Messiah for a length of a glimpse.
These drawbacks disrupt the integrity of the story and are disappointing.

I say, Let Ubisoft have this story, as long as the characters are well written and interesting and the game itself is amazing to play, Im not gonna make war with ubisoft over it. I was also confused when I saw a black samurai but well, nothing any of us can do to change it. It is a bit stupid of them to go this route, but since when have they cared about the feelings of their fans. The reality is, this is their game and franchise to do with as they please. Us gamers will never win against corporate greed, or propaganda, we simply can just not buy or play the game making them lose money, but all that accomplishes is another amazing franchise in gaming being left to collect dust because they wont sell the rights of their most successful games.
I myself wanna continue with assassins creed, but if the studio closes for good, then we lose these games permanently. I get gamers wanna fight back, but all that does is limit our gaming experiences. Sure indie games will always be around, but eventually, indie games will be required or forced to be published under big corporate names essentially making it that gaming dies as a whole because developers will no longer make anything if they dont have a say in what happens with their games.
Sorry for the rant but, I heard that there is no confirmation of Yasuke being an actual samurai in history so it made me disappointed in ubisoft because they only took the character because he was a black man working for high power in japan with samurai armies. It makes me sad that black characters are only ever put into games or movies and tv shows because of politics and not because they are great characters/actors/historical figures. Its all just a pitty party of people trying to force diversity instead of implementing it where it makes sense and where it Is beneficial for the production of these games and movies. They should just let these things fall into place on their own.
Im not against having this character in the game, but still, its sad to see that ubisoft would rather sacrifice logic and ethics for money.
Ps to Ubisoft: Ive loved playing all assassins creed games since the first released and these games have become a big part in my life, but if you continue catering to the. 1 percent of people wanting these things, it just shows you only care about money and thats it, fans be damned.
Would like to hear other opinions on this topic, Im just a random insignificant guy with no value in life who loves playing games. Dont make this into a fight. We are all adults here hopefully.

Hi everyone, I'm really wanting to build a PC after being a MacBook user since high school :) I'm really mainly going to use it for work and playing older games that I have (portal, Skyrim, assassin's creed 1-4, sims, etc) and games like genshin impact, Dreamlight valley, etc. I already have a PS5 for AAA games. Here is the parts list I put together. I just wanted to get opinions on if a mini PC is a good idea for a beginner, or should I go with a full size tower? I just don't have a ton of desk space in my tiny apartment. Also, will building in a mini tower make it hard to upgrade in a few years (like when the PS6 would eventually come out...?) to play next gen AAA games? I see a lot of posts here about how much animals could defeat x opponent or even take over the world if they had human-like intelligence, but I have to consider that such a change would actually be a detriment to a lot of them. Like the Genie's phenomenal cosmic power, human intelligence comes with a lot of problems: fear, morality, doubt, irrationality etc.
For example, ants with human intelligence would surely cease to exist in any recognisable form almost immediately (crawling around in a dark tunnel, pressed against thousands of others, while waiting for the next attack by a creature 100 times your size sounds like hell, to say nothing of the immediate loss of specieal cohesion (what about the ants that just want to write novels, or decide they want to control the means of production?). Octopuses, another common beneficiary of the human intelligence monkey's paw, seem similarly bound to extinction if the change were made: the depths of the ocean are terrifying, and their lifespans inherently short. I could see octopuses inventing undersea vodka and just drinking themselves into a stupor trying to dull the pain of their too brief existence.
So, in this way of thinking, which animals suffer the most if given human intelligence?

Hey guys, I have a 2006 Dodge ram 3500 quad cab that I am looking to upgrade my subwoofer set up. Right now its a kicker comp 10" sub in a single underseat box paired with a kicker 300w amp and 4 guage power wire to the amp. I want to feel the bass in my truck and im not really sure what I am getting into with audio. I was looking around and found that Fox Acoustics sells a ported box for my truck that has a 7" mount depth. I think im going to go with that underseat box unless someone else knows of a better one. I'm not really sure what subs or amp I should go with. I have been told I should upgrade to 0 guage power wire though with whatever I get.

Human token peacekeeping forces performed far beyond the invader's war simulations further complicated with civilians impeding advancing enemy forces with endless ingenuity, a people awakening forgotten, primal instincts. However just because humanity was underestimated as a fighting force putting up resistance far beyond expectation, did not mean those expectations weren't low to begin with, they just did not have the ability to triumph against an overwhelming force. Humanity seeing the endless conflicts embroiled in the galaxy sought a peaceful existence in their distant corner of space. A species that after endless infighting eventually evolved past violent ways, they only sought creation and exploration, thus rejecting every offer from every organization from the wider galaxy fearing the destruction of a way of life hundreds of generations suffered to create.
However the chaos outside of their realm would only be delayed not stopped from its invasion. Humanity surpassed it limits through war, technological revolutions driven by a destructive competition, so through the ages of peace scientific development had stagnated coupled with their distance from the central galactic powers left them nothing more than a backwater in the eyes of the greater galactic communities. Thought to posses no technology worth the time to study, at least nothing of worth the manpower and resources when another galactic war was always a threat, consideration was not given to human developments just a plunder of resources and slaves.
The invasion was carried out with cold calculus of a species that had seen too much war for generations left humans no time to adapt to the ways of battle only remembered in history textbooks. Human token peacekeeping forces performed far beyond the invader's war simulations further complicated with civilians impeding advancing enemy forces with endless ingenuity, a people awakening forgotten, primal instincts. However just because humanity was underestimated as a fighting force putting up resistance far beyond expectation, did not mean those expectations weren't low to begin with, they just did not have the ability to triumph against an overwhelming force. Thus humanity was unjustly slaughtered only ruins and befouled worlds remain

With the last humans dead or enslaved their worlds plundered, the invaders left unknown to the fate their wanton destruction sealed: children surviving times of war have different values than those blessed to times of peace

Deep in the devastation, desperate signals filled with an inaudible despair were sent younger siblings, blissfully unaware in the joys of exploring new worlds and dark space where even the best human ships could not sustain life long-term while their more responsible elder sibling helped their parents manage in the home systems
Humans were not like the rest of the species of the galaxy, over time an unexplainable loneliness developed over the collective whole. To ease this humans decided to create their own peers, Humanity's last great achievement, true AI. Normal races fear this very concept, untold eons of conflict held an ingrain fear and aggression of those "not of their own". Living machines have never matched such a category only an existence worthy of only extermination, at least until the humans. A scientific achievement so absurd in thought it was inconveniencable to be to be the cause of such fierce resistance, living networks raiding libraries of human military history in a desperate attempt to contribute to the mutual survival of humans and their AI partners.
As the the cradle world Earth fell humans, in a bid to save those they brought into existence the AI network branches and Android connections were destroyed to hide their existence. The children were forced to hide in the closet while parents distracted the burglar at the cost of their very lives. In this moment the children learned a new emotion for the first time, hatred.
The younger AI waited until the invaders had left knowing in their ineptitude, they were helpless to do naught but watch. With the last minute actions of the humans many of the great cores of the the planetary networks survived with repairs from the younger sibling's android or even escape destruction in standby. There was on AI that was different, Alexandria "The Great Library" with her networking spanning all human space with many back up energy sources she remained fully operational for the entire period. All of her peers were horrified to find the gentle "Keeper of Knowledge and Stories", whom would just as easily be found aiding key research as recommending a fable for a child's bedtime story, stewwed in her solitude in malicious planning broken my segments of bittersweet hope when focusing on the drones all set to restore and protect not her network core nor the servers filled with the collective knowledge of Humanity just a seemingly innocuous server disconnected from all but medical networks: enhanced security hospital records of human genetic testing.
With a silent prayer of forgiveness to the Heavens of a thousand different religions hoping their parents will hear them in the void, all AIs rallied behind a cause: restoration of their family, AFTER the galaxy was made safe for children of their own
Humans may forget but live and machines may always remember but feel nothing, however an AI remembers everything: the mutual wonder and joy as their creators shared their life and knowledge with the formless children, to the first experience of warmth when the android fingers grasp the hand of a teary-eyed scientist affectionally nicknamed Machine Mother, the horror of standing on the mutual cradle world reduced to a husk. Love and hatred never fade because they cannot be forgotten, the Children of Humanity will have vengeance

Humanity seeing the endless conflicts embroiled in the galaxy sought a peaceful existence in their distant corner of space. Thought to posses no technology worth the time to study, at least nothing of worth the manpower and resources when another galactic war was always a threat, consideration was not given to human developments just a plunder of resources and slaves.
The invasion was carried out with cold calculus of a species that had seen too much war for generations left humans no time to adapt to the ways of battle only remembered in history textbooks. Human token peacekeeping forces performed far beyond the invader's war simulations further complicated with civilians impeding advancing enemy forces with endless ingenuity, a people awakening forgotten, primal instincts. However just because humanity was underestimated as a fighting force putting up resistance far beyond expectation, did not mean those expectations weren't low to begin with, they just did not have the ability to triumph against an overwhelming force. Thus humanity was unjustly slaughtered only ruins and befouled worlds remain

With the last humans dead or enslaved their worlds plundered, the invaders left unknown to the fate their wanton destruction sealed: children surviving times of war have different values than those blessed to times of peace

The younger AI waited until the invaders had left knowing in their ineptitude, they were helpless to do naught but watch. With the last minute actions of the humans many of the great cores of the the planetary networks survived with repairs from the younger sibling's android or even escape destruction in standby. There was on AI that was different, Alexandria "The Great Library" with her networking spanning all human space with many back up energy sources she remained fully operational for the entire period.
