Please help me find a remote job (in technical writing maybe?)

2024.05.13 20:54 elegantideas Please help me find a remote job (in technical writing maybe?)

I don’t know how well this will be received here, but unfortunately I am beyond desperate at this point, and I figured I would ask you all for help, since there seems to be a solid contingent of WFH people in this community. Perhaps one of you will be able to help me out.
TLDR: I’m desperately searching for a remote job, in technical writing or adjacent fields. I know how to use MadCap Flare, Confluence, JIRA, and some Git commands. I can send my full resume on request.
Longer version: I graduated in May 2023 and it’s been bleak ever since. I have a degree in English and a minor in Biology (and knowledge of Spanish). I’ve had my eyes on technical writing as a field since my freshman year of college as a way to combine both my love and skill in the sciences and in writing, but also because even then before the pandemic, technical writing was flagged as a career with a lot of remote work opportunities. I have chronic migraines that require me to spend a lot of time in the dark, and so it was important that I look for career paths that have the best chance at accommodating it.
I did a remote internship in technical writing for a software company that I absolutely adored and was successful in. It was in this position that I learned the above softwares: MadCap Flare, Confluence, JIRA, Git. I’ve been looking and applying for similar positions since I graduated, to no avail. I have won multiple awards from national and international writing competitions, so I do know how to write.
I’ve been working as a legal assistant, which is thankfully remote, but it is part-time and minimum wage with no benefits or PTO. It is not enough for me to move out and support myself on my own, which I’m looking to do as I am currently living with a family member who takes no precautions. Moreover, I really don’t like the work (but that’s far secondary to pay).
So please, if you or anyone else has any leads on a remote, technical writing job or something adjacent, please please PLEASE help me. In exchange for any help I can write you a poem, crochet you something, whatever. Apologies to put this here, but I am beyond the point of being desperate enough to beg for help from this community.

2024.05.11 00:05 Background_Camp_7712 You all inspired me!

You all inspired me!
I’ve got a closet full of yarn and half-finished/barely started projects that I haven’t touched in… a while. Seeing you all post your gorgeous creations here inspired me to pick up a hook and go for it again.
So this is a chemo cap I made for my mom. She’s not even all the way through the testing and treatment planning stage, but she’s already preparing because we know it’s coming.
She thought she was going to sew an “easy diy turban” but the instructions were ludicrous. 😂 So she noped right out of that idea and decided she’d buy some if she needs them.
The woman is not subtle, so of course I got the hint and made her a turban for Mother’s Day. ❤️
Here’s the pattern I used: https://thebunnystudio.blogspot.com/2016/11/free-pattern-alma-hat.html
For the rose, I used this pattern: https://moaracrochet.com/easy-crochet-rose-free-crochet-pattern/

2024.05.08 05:16 cowboysaturn 23 [F4A] Texas, Looking for a life partner !

I’m Finny, and you can blame Studio Ghibli for making me be a hopeless romantic. But seriously, I’m looking for the Howl to my Sophie!
I’m 23, 5’0” (either I climb the counter or you suffer getting things for me that are out of reach), non-binary/afab, black, and have exactly one tattoo. Can you guess what it is? Over text I tend to lean more extroverted, but irl I’m quite introverted and reserved. Once I open up though, I crack lots of jokes and am pretty loud. I’m also agnostic and very left/progressive, so if you’re not into that we’re not gonna get along lol. I’m often described as whimsical, which checks out since I wanna live like a hobbit. I’m a kind person who prides themselves on having a high emotional intelligence, too! If you need to rant, I’m your funny lil guy. I’m also super affectionate and love listening to people ramble about whatever. I really value communication and empathy!
things abt me ↓
I don’t really have a preference, but I do tend to gravitate towards other ND people (read: I have adhd and probably autism) with similar hobbies like me. I don’t smoke (I’m asthmatic) and rarely drink, so I’d like it if you’re the same. I’m monogamous and don’t have a specific preference for gender. Age range is 21-25. Maybe I will reconsider age if we click, but that’s a hard maybe, sorry! I tend to do well with people closer to my age.
Reach out to me through chat if you’d like to talk! You can open with how your day is going, your favorite color or book, anything really! The sky is the limit so don’t ground yourself with “hey :)” yeah? I’m being serious, I probably won’t reply lmao. I love reading long messages! It feels like a message in a bottle!!

2024.05.04 04:12 thejoyofbri Making a two-strand twist/ faux loc wig

Hi all! I’m hoping this is the right place to ask, so many of the other relevant subreddits aren’t really catered to this.
So I’m trying to make a wig for cosplay that is similar to my usual length and style but a different color, and I don’t even know where to start. I’m mostly getting stuck at what types of wig caps to use (I have a braided one rn but I’m worried that the braids will show) and what hair to commit to using (crochets? Weave?). I’m not looking for anything super expensive or realistic, so quick fixes/cheap options work just as good. I guess I’m looking for something that’s a bit more in depth than the tutorials floating around

2024.05.01 06:46 trashhorse 39[F4F] #California #online Let the Sun only shine on me through a falling sky.

Nerdy, nuerospicy, full time artist. I have a demanding schedule most of the time but can make it flexible for the right people. Introverted but loyal to the core once I connect with someone. I deeply care for my people and value honesty and open communication more than anything, and offer the same in return.
I have a nesting partner of 8+ years, and cannot offer “traditional” relationship escalator type stuff (like living together). We date separately. He prefers mostly parallel with a sprinkle of KTP. I’m very open to Garden Party or KTP but not interested in dating couples AT ALL. We do not do Veto or anything like that. Relationship Anarchy is more aligned. Been practicing poly for 3 years now. HSV2+ and medicated daily with very rare outbreaks. If thats not within your risk profile, we probably won’t work out - that said, I am very mindful (and more of a top with femme folk anyway). My career makes me hyper aware of pathogen transmission and I avoid activities that put others at risk by default. If you don’t even know what a risk profile is, keep scrolling elsewhere.
Child free but not opposed to those with kiddos. Homebody for the most part, though I do enjoy getting out sometimes (mostly to art shows and museums) - but my favorite part will always be getting home to put my pjs on and relax. I love watching movies and TV and my big obsessions right now are Star Trek, Dr Who, and Good Omens. I am 100% a nerd. I also love to craft in my spare time, especially crochet. I’m completely obsessed with Hozier right now. Common interests are really important to me. Fellow nerds to the front of the line. I love gaming, and mostly play Sky: Children of the Light, and Path of Titans for multiplayer fun. I also love cozy games on Switch.
Not big on purely sexual connections, I like connections that are deeply emotional and fulfilling. I can love intensely but I generally need some common interests, and prioritize feeling safe, stable, and supported and offer my partners the same. I take quite a while to get to know people before I sus out my feelings for them. If you’re not down for a slow burn with minimal flirting early on, keep scrolling. I do like to keep up with day to day goings on, and I’ll txt you novels.
I have some hang ups about my appearance (shitty teeth. Thanks genetics - and I mean real shitty) so best if you are non judgemental and accepting. Otherwise I’ve been told I’m cute. I am also non judgemental and accepting. Happy to exchange face pics early on. I am VERY left, tired to death of capitalism, an inclusive feminist, body positive, and a silly little goblin with the right people. I also sometimes hang out with furries so don’t be a hater. 420 is yay. Vaxxed + boosted and still masking in public spaces.
If you’re into the signs, I am a Capricorn, Scorpio rising and Scorpio moon. Year of the wood Rat. I get along with most everyone but have a very soft spot for Virgos, fellow Caps, Cancer, Pisces, and Libra. Looks, weights, heights don’t really mean anything to me. I’m more interested in who you are and what matters to you.
Cis men need not apply. I’m good on that front. Other hard NOs are TERFS, conservatives, Christians and Christian adjacent religions - we simply will not get along. Hail Satan and ACAB.
Looking for Afab and femme folx to connect with, please be between 30-42. Semi recently went through a breakup (in December) with my long distance gf, and am still doing some healing about it. But I’m ready to open my heart to someone special again. I’m a doting partner, a good listener, and genuinely care about people. I am okay with long distance, but the closer to the west coast, the better cus I’m a broke bitch and time zones are wibbly wobbly. It would be super rad if you’re like…not on the east coast. (No offense to my east coast girlies y’all are amazing) and if you are it would be cool if you’re a night owl so we could potentially still have some quality time in the early evenings. Friendship first is always my motto - good connections bloom from a strong friendship. I like to take my time getting to know people. If you’re interested in maybe kindling something special, shoot me a message. I’m fine with moving to Discord if we both feel comfortable.
NOT looking for hookups, casual connections, one night stands, FWBs etc. I’m looking to foster something long term and devoted. :) I’ve collected several friends from previous posts so also not looking for more platonic connections. sorry not sorry this is so long. Shoot me a message and tell me what your favorite sci-fi series/movie is. this is posted on my throwaway account because my main account is connected to my career which is very public facing

I got a cheap wallet on clearance, took out the insides and sewed them onto a new cover I crocheted.
Cover is C2C linen stitch with alternating rows of Aunt Lydia's #10 crochet thread in metallic pearl (the white rows, which have an iridescent shimmer that's not very visible) and size 5 DMC embroidery floss in various shades of pink. 1mm hook. Steam blocked, then painted one side with 2 layers of Modge Podge and cut to shape. Corner bits are some bead caps that I flattened, folded to shape, and then glued and sewed in place with some metallic thread (which is the devil).

Hey Reddit,
Complexe.
À mon anniversaire de mes 13 ans, j'ai commencé à me sentir mal. J'étais trop KO pour me défendre.
J'étais soulagée, persuadée qu'on allait me soigner.
Ça m'a blessée.
Je me sens seule. Vraiment seule.
Mes sœurs me manquent.

🔗Chic Padded Lace Evening Gown with Open Back and Rhinestone Detail

I recently bought this black lace dress for an evening event, and I was blown away by its elegance and style. The cap sleeve design is perfect, and the slight ruching to the bust area accentuates my figure beautifully. The open back and lacey neckline, decorated with rhinestones, make me feel like a million bucks.
The chiffon fabric is so lightweight and comfortable, I did not require an extra layer of support such as a bra, providing me with a "no bra" option, which is a welcome surprise. The zipper closure is smooth and easy to manage. The overall fit is snug, but not too tight, conforming to my body shape perfectly.
One area that could be improved is the skirt length, as I am taller, I would recommend the hem to be slightly longer. Additionally, the dress might not be the best option for more casual occasions since it is quite formal.
In conclusion, the Ever-Pretty Black Lace Dress is a stunning and affordable addition to your wardrobe, ideal for upscale gatherings or events. The comfort it offers is an added bonus that you won't find with many formal dresses. I highly recommend this dress and would eagerly purchase from the brand again!

The House of CB Katrina Lace Mesh Long Sleeve Gown in Black was my go-to dress for a recent formal event. The unique combination of mesh accents and lace details lent an ethereal, yet sophisticated touch. Unfortunately, during the wear, it slid down my shoulders and felt quite uncomfortable.
Despite this, the piece still managed to create a stunning silhouette.

🔗Chic Black Lace Embroidered Long Sleeve Dress

The Lulus Lust or Love Black Embroidered Lace Long Sleeve Dress is a fashionable pick for any evening out, thanks to its chic blend of sheer chiffon and knit lining. The embroidered polka dots add an attention-grabbing touch, making it the perfect statement piece. With its crochet trimmed rounded neckline, it's not just stunning to look at, but also comfortable to wear.
While it may not be the most budget-friendly option, it certainly is a lust-worthy dress that oozes sophistication and elegance.

🔗Sleek Black Lace Sheath Dress for Women

https://preview.redd.it/kgzmdkvgh6wc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2427d4c58cb1e6811d6184becb5fb56260800a8d
I had the pleasure of sporting the Nina Leonard Women's Elbow Sleeve Lace Dress in black during a recent event. The moment I slipped it on, I felt like a million bucks. The stunning black lace dress, with its elegant jewel neck and lace elbow-length sleeves, made quite the statement.
The dress fit so comfortably, giving me that extra boost of confidence. It was surprisingly lightweight for something so elegant. The hidden back-zip closure was a nice touch too, making it easy to slip in and out. The material was unlined, but it didn't compromise the overall look and feel of the dress.
Now, onto the minor drawbacks. The dress did feel a bit long for someone as petite as me, but with a thin navy belt, it worked out just fine. I would have loved some more sizing options for those who may be larger than the model.
Overall, this dress was a delightful addition to my wardrobe. It was a joy to wear and received many compliments from my friends and family. If you're looking for something unique and comfortable, this lace dress could be the one for you. Just remember to consider the sizing before making your purchase.

🔗Lustrous Black Lace-Up Mini Dress with Built-In Corset

As someone who loves to dress up for date nights, I recently tried on the Oh Polly Lace-Up Corset Mini Dress in Black, size 8. I was immediately drawn to the bandeau neck and silicone grip tape along the bust, which provided great support. The built-in corset was a nice touch, and the concealed side zip fastening made it easy to put on and take off.
The bodycon design accentuated my curves, making me feel confident and seductive. However, I did notice that the mini length was a bit shorter than I anticipated, so I had to be careful not to show too much skin.
Overall, it's a stunning piece that's perfect for a night out on the town.

I recently tried out the Edikted Madame Sheer Lace Dress Black, and I have to say, it was quite the experience. It arrived in a timely manner, and the overall craftsmanship impressed me. The delicate lace detailing was a real standout feature, making me feel all dressed up and ready for a night out.
However, while the dress looked great, it didn't quite hit the right spot for me. It was a bit too short, which wasn't ideal for my taste. Unfortunately, this seemed to be a common issue for other users too. While some were happy with the large size they received, others mentioned that it was still too short for their liking.
I'll give credit where it's due—the material felt soft and luxurious, just like the picture suggested. The fit, though, was another story. Some users experienced a snug fit, which might not be everyone's cup of tea.
Despite the minor cons, the Sheer Lace Dress Black remains a popular choice for those looking for a fun and flirty piece to add to their wardrobe. It's a versatile option that can be thrown on for a night out or over a bikini for a summer party. Just make sure to double-check the size before making your purchase.

For my 18th birthday, I decided to try out the Joslyn Satin Lace Slip Mini Dress in black, and let me tell you, it was a showstopper! . The moment I slipped it on, I felt like a true birthday princess. The double adjustable straps ensured a perfect fit, and the open back with hook and eye fastening was both sexy and comfortable.
The lace trim and delicate lace panels added a touch of elegance to the dress, while the sweetheart neckline made me feel confident and sophisticated. Plus, the mini length of the dress was perfect for a night out celebrating with friends.
Although it's made of polyester, the dress felt soft and comfortable against my skin. Overall, the Joslyn Satin Lace Slip Mini Dress was a fantastic addition to my birthday wardrobe, and I received countless compliments on its style and quality.

🔗Lace Sleeve A-Line Mini Dress for Everyday Chic

https://preview.redd.it/xplj54zih6wc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6b306abe468841e927d7ce249142fbce49e960b
Dancing into the limelight, I recently had the chance to wear this oh-so-sexy Black Lace A-Line Mini Dress. With its elegant plunge neckline and adjustable dual shoulder straps, this dress instantly became my go-to for a night out. The angled corset, featuring underwired cups and boning, offered me the perfect support without skimping on style. As for the lace sleeves, they were just long enough to gracefully twirl in without feeling too exposed.
However, the hidden zipper on the reverse was a bit tricky to navigate, and it would have been more convenient if it was a little higher up for easy access. Also, the loose A-line pleated skirt with the waterfall ruffle at the thigh made me feel like I was drowning in fabric, even though the mini length was adorable. The product code, 6732, will stick in my mind every time I think about this dress.

🔗Black Lace Sleeveless Maxi Dress with Gathered Waist

I recently added this Nina Leonard sleeveless lace trim maxi dress to my wardrobe, and it's become a go-to piece for warm weather. The dress adds a touch of elegance to any outfit with the sleeveless, V-neck design and lace-accented waist. It's light and breathable, making it perfect for those humid summer days.
One of the standout features is the hidden back-zip closure, which keeps the dress secure and prevents any unwanted slips. However, I did notice that the lining of the dress is made of rayon, which means it may not be the most durable. Also, it's machine washable, which is convenient, but it should be line-dried to prevent any shrinkage.
Overall, I'm glad I picked up this black lace dress from Nordstrom Rack. It's a versatile addition to my wardrobe and a great option for those warm summer nights.

For a more formal event, add some elegant jewelry, such as a statement necklace or chandelier earrings, to complete your outfit.

🔗Black Sequined Evening Wrap Dress with Long Sleeves

I recently wore the Quiz Long Sleeve Sequin Wrap Evening Dress in black to a friend's birthday party, and it was quite the showstopper! The material felt luxurious against my skin, while the chiffon fabric flowed effortlessly as I danced the night away. I particularly appreciated the square neckline, which added a elegant touch without being overly revealing.
However, there were some cons as well. The long sleeves tended to feel a bit stuffy during the warmer parts of the evening, and I wish they'd been slightly more fitted. Additionally, the size 4 seemed to run a tad small, making it difficult for me to move freely throughout the night.
Overall, this dress made me feel confident and stylish at the event. Its sequins were subtle yet sophisticated, and the tulip hem added a playful twist to an otherwise classic design. While it may not be perfect for everyone, I definitely recommend giving it a try if you're looking to make a statement at your next special occasion.

🔗Gorgeous Lace Maxi Dress with Full Skirt and Bodice Details

I recently tried on the Oh Polly Lace Long Sleeve Maxi Dress in Black, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The first thing that caught my attention was the concealed side zip fastening, which made it easy for me to slip into the dress without any hassle. The gathering at the side seams added an elegant touch to the overall look, while the asymmetric cut-out at the waist accentuated my figure beautifully.
The fitted sleeves were long and comfortable, making me feel like I was wearing a cozy sweater. The lace fabric used in the dress, along with the power mesh lining, was of premium quality, giving off a luxurious vibe. I appreciate how the Ingrid dress managed to maintain a bodycon fit without compromising on the level of comfort it provided.
One of the standout features that made me fall in love with this dress was its fully lined construction. I was thrilled to find this dress suitable for elegant events and date nights, providing me with a sense of confidence and sophistication.
However, there was one slight downside that I noticed - the maxi length, which was approximately 117cm based on a US size 4. While I understood that the dress was designed with a tall figure in mind, it made me feel slightly uncomfortable when walking, as the hem touched the floor.
Overall, the Oh Polly Lace Long Sleeve Maxi Dress in Black was an exquisite piece that added a touch of romance to any occasion. It had its pros and cons, but the sense of elegance it offered was truly unmatchable.

The long sleeves and the bead details are exquisite, adding a layer of sophistication to the overall design. The fit is regular, making it perfect for those who like their clothing snug but not too tight. The dress is sold exclusively by ASOS, which means you won't find a similar piece anywhere else.

I was intrigued by this "by Design Rosalie Long Sleeve Velvet Maxi Dress" when I stumbled upon it at Nordstrom Rack. As someone who likes to dress up once in a while, I found the long sleeve velvet dress to be perfect for an evening out. The dress is quite roomy, which was a plus for my size 4X. I loved the soft stretch velvet fabric, making it both comfortable and elegant.
However, I did notice one downside - the partially lined construction of the dress. This made it a bit see-through in certain lighting. Other than that, I found the dress to be a great addition to my wardrobe. The by Design Rosalie Maxi Dress is perfect for anyone who wants a stylish and comfortable dress for their next event.

🔗Black Long Sleeve Maxi Dress for a Glamorous Look

During a recent shopping trip, I stumbled across the Quiz Brillo Long Sleeve Maxi Dress in black, and I just couldn't resist giving it a try. The moment I slipped it on, I was blown away by the glamorous shimmer it created. The long sleeves added a classy touch, making me feel like a true queen.
Despite the alluring shine, there was one drawback - the dress felt slightly uncomfortable after a while due to the close-fitting design. However, when considering the style, it was worth the discomfort. The black color was versatile, allowing me to wear it with a variety of accessories to complete the perfect look.
In conclusion, the Quiz Brillo Long Sleeve Maxi Dress in black could have been just a little more comfortable, but its mesmerizing shimmer and timeless style make it a must-have for any fashion-forward wardrobe.

🔗Black Long Sleeve Maxi Dress with Curly Lettuce Trim

Upon receiving the dress, I was instantly drawn to its unique tonal striped pattern and the curly lettuce trim, which added a touch of whimsy to the piece. The dress was lightweight and comfortable, making it a perfect option for a daytime occasion.
However, I noticed a few drawbacks when trying it on. The sizing felt a bit off, which made the fit less flattering than expected. Additionally, the dress was a bit longer than I had anticipated, so the length didn't flatter my figure as much as I had hoped.

The lightweight fabric and tonal stripes made it a versatile piece that could easily transition from day to night. Overall, the dress offers a striking design that's worth considering for those looking for a stylish long sleeve option.

Overall, the House of CB Saskia Plunge Long Sleeve Jersey Gown was a beautiful and captivating addition to my wardrobe, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a standout piece.

Buyer's Guide

When shopping for a black long sleeve maxi dress, there are several important features, considerations, and general advice to keep in mind to ensure you're making the best purchase. These factors will help you find a dress that not only meets your functional requirements but also fits your personal style.

Feature 1: Fabric Comfort and Drape

https://preview.redd.it/745hwyeze6wc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12943c450a45ccab054956e77d56bea0ee1e4d64
One of the most important aspects of a long sleeve maxi dress is the fabric. It should be comfortable and have a good drape to make movement fluid and comfortable throughout the day. Choose a dress made from breathable fabrics, like cotton, linen, or viscose, which can help keep you cool even in warmer climates. Additionally, the drape of the dress should be smooth and allow for easy movement.

Feature 2: Sleeve Length and Fit

Long sleeve maxi dresses typically feature sleeves that come somewhere between the elbow and wrist—though they may exceed these levels, too. Consider the length you prefer and make sure the sleeve design complements the dress's overall style. Additionally, it's essential that the sleeve fit is adequate and doesn't restrict your range of motion. Don't forget to look at the sleeve style, such as cap sleeves, flutter sleeves, or bell sleeves, which may add a unique touch to your dress.

Feature 3: Dress Length and Fit

Dress length plays a significant role in overall style and comfort. There should be enough fabric to allow the dress to cascade down your body without bunching up or feeling too tight. The ideal length of a maxi dress is one that extends to the ground or comes close to it, while allowing comfortable footwear underneath. To find the perfect fit, measure your height and determine the length that best accents your figure.

https://preview.redd.it/xy5un6tze6wc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f45d763bc286da526405b463dfbb95c70d3d048

Feature 4: Details and Design

Long sleeve maxi dresses offer a wide range of design options, including patterns, colors, and embellishments. Consider your personal style and the occasion you'll be wearing the dress to. A dress with a solid color can be more versatile if you plan on wearing it to multiple events, while a dress with a bold print or pattern might be more suited to a specific occasion. Pay attention to the construction of the dress, including detailing on the collar, hem, or waist, as well as the placement of any additional embellishments, ruffles, or lace.

Consideration: Budget

Establishing a budget is crucial when shopping for a black long sleeve maxi dress. Keep in mind that prices may vary based on the quality, brand, and materials used. Set a realistic budget that allows you to find a dress within your price range that still meets your style and comfort needs.

Consideration: Maintenance and Care

https://preview.redd.it/4a3tfc80f6wc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43e2aa549a4a29c5225c7028bbfd127c72e9bbff
Proper maintenance and care for a black long sleeve maxi dress are essential to ensure it remains in good condition and continues to look great for years to come. Research the fabric and cleaning instructions to understand what's required to care for the dress appropriately. In some cases, you may need to avoid putting the dress in the washing machine or dryer, opting instead for handwashing or using a professional dry cleaner.

General Advice

When shopping for a black long sleeve maxi dress, bring along a trusted friend or family member for their opinion. They might help you choose the best options or even provide helpful feedback on how a particular dress looks on you. Additionally, consider taking a photo of yourself in the dress to get a better understanding of how it suits you or to share with friends for their feedback.
Lastly, take the time to try on the dress before making a purchase. Always wear the undergarments you plan on wearing with the dress when trying it on to ensure a proper fit. Check for any loose threads, tears, or stitching issues that could compromise the dress's overall quality.
