2024.05.14 10:24 Jaccalope Looking to TEFL in Shanghai or Hangzhou, not sure how to proceed

I'm born and raised in Montreal and thus hold a Canadian passport, but I'm originally Chinese! I speak fluent Mandarin but cannot read nor write Chinese characters. I'm fully proficient in English and French, but would rather only dabble in the former for now. Graduated with a undergrad BCom degree back in 2022.
I understood that my bachelor's degree and TEFL certification are enough to land me a job offer in English teaching, but I'm not sure where to look for opportunities. Should I be doing door-to-door with schools? What kind of apps/websites can I apply?
Also, regarding the visa, are most of your simply on a tourist visa receiving your pay on WeChat after every class? Or are most of you on a 1y working visa and working as salaried employees? What is the recommendation for someone like me who would probably only stay for 3-4 months?
Thanks so much for your help!

2024.05.14 10:23 Optimus-Unprime Is there a way to qualify for the US Visa Lottery without completing high school in Australia?

Hey so I tried searching on Google and Reddit and couldn't find the answer to this anywhere, would much appreciate some help. I'm Australian and really want to immigrate to America, however I dropped out of school in Year 10 due to depression. I've been working at my local farm for almost two years, and my boss is the type who HATES when people quit so I 100% know they would not help supply evidence of my work there for 2 years or be a reference. Is there any other way to prove I've been working at my farm for the two years of evidence? Would my pay stubs work for example?
If not, I've been looking into adult education anyway, and was wondering if TAFE qualifies for the 12 years of education requirement? Online it says a Year 12 Certificate satisfies the requirement so I'm not sure if TAFE falls under that or if SACE from a secondary continuing learning school is the only way, or if there's no way for me to fulfill the HS requirement for the Visa lottery.
I know this is a bit of a complicated question so thanks for the help.

2024.05.14 10:15 purrincesskittens A job that allows you to sit down? But decent pay?

Asking for my dad who is almost sixty never finished school just got a certification in some kind of machinery relating to ACs he has been getting jobs mainly based off work experience (he works with machinery putting large machine together to be shipped off currently) he is thinking of either charging career paths or branching put into something else by going back to school for something my community College has the free tuition thing and I have had good experience there so he is thinking of apply if he can just pick something to do.
He needs a career that he is able to sit occasionally as he has bad knees. He has experience working with machinery and first aid medical knowledge and skills (he has considered going for some kind of nursing which my school has a extensive program for). He considered pharmacy technician but I was just told by my advisor that he wouldn't really be able to sit and its very fast pass.
So I'm now turning to the internet to help find him a career path. Pay needs to be decent as he would be the sole financial provider once I move out in two to three years when I graduate and my mom is disabled and can't work.

2024.05.14 10:11 cooki-yes-good Moving abroad through starting a fashion business?

I’m in my early twenties, graduated in fashion. However, education runs a bit differently in my country, so I guess my certificate would be what’s considered as an “associate” (2 years of bachelors) although I schooled for 3 years.
Basically, the big dream is to move out of my country through being an entrepreneur (fashion business).
I don’t really know where to navigate from here. I’ve never liked school, but should I study another 4 years for a bachelors? I can’t have everything my way, I know that. The basic requirement to moving abroad is having at least a bachelors, right?
Then, I also need to gain experience in running a business. In school we only learned how to design, not sell.
I already have a strong concept and image for my brand but it’s all useless unless I market it.
And while you can start the business once you’re in the country (and not start it first and then move), you still have to find a reason to move there first …
Oh, and I’m still not even sure where exactly I’d like to move because throughout my life I’ve only been around Asia. I’m thinking some place in Europe or China.
Sorry I’m all over the place, I’m just trying to dish out my thoughts.
If you were in my position what would you do?

2024.05.14 09:53 thatgrayduck DUI question

My parents live in Los Angeles and I currently live in rural Texas. I want to get my DUI and dont know any Salvis in the area that I live in. I am going to be meeting up with my parents on a trip to the motherland (my first in 21 years) and was wondering if I can just get my DUI in El Salvador. I am already going to be taking my birth certificate (to not pay for the entry) and was thinking I can also take my marriage certificate (since I’m married and my name changed from my birth certificate). Has anyone else gotten their DUI in El Salvador instead of state side? What do people do if they don’t have their parents documents and don’t have two people that will vouch for them at the consulate? Both my birth and marriage certificates state that my parents were both born in El Salvador, would that help since I doubt I’ll find two individuals to vouch for me.

To be able for you to tell me this, I don't want to post my CV, but some details:
These are consisting 7 years of professional game industrial experience with full-time jobs (only in small indie companies). During these years I didn't receive too much code reviews (I mostly worked for very small indie studios). So maybe I'm at intermediate level, OR between intermediate and senior level.

2024.05.14 09:02 Snoo-90198 Advice on certifications

hey everyone! I am a little lost on what to do. I graduated a couple months ago but was unable to get my certification due to personal issues with a family members illness. I am ready to get back into it but unsure where to even start. I passed SPI while I was in school so not worried about that. I am unsure if I should go with ardms and or arrt. I also can’t afford any study resources as the exam portion is pretty much all I can pay for at the moment being unemployed. If anyone has any tips or advice it would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.14 08:58 According_Bat1002 Recommendations for Culinary Arts Course

Hello All! I’ve been slowly getting into cooking over the past 4-5 years. I began by just being able to make rice and (bland) dal, and now able to make decent everyday-meals.
In the past, whenever I’ve learnt a new skill it’s been best for me to approach it like I’m studying a school subject. I want to approach food in the same way.
That brings me to my question, can you recommend a good certificate or diploma or workshop style course for culinary arts? I’m specifically looking to learn about savoury foods, not patisserie. Having the institute in Mumbai will be ideal, but if the course is shorter than 3 months, I can to to another city as well.

2024.05.14 08:43 tellya1solo Questions about af

I’ve been considering trying to do a cyber job in the af. I graduated with my bachelor in cybersecurity, have 2-3 years of IT experience, and my security+ cert. I’m looking to gain more experience/certs, and travel. I will continue doing research and reach out to a recruiter in due time. Additionally I heard it’s best to go to officer school so I will be applying for that aswell. I have a handful of questions so any insight helps. I used to play college football aswell so fitness tips for basic needed aswell.
1.What are the chances of me getting into ots being it’s competitive and I graduated in ‘21? Does my gpa still mean a lot in the decision?
2.I found interest in these 6 jobs. Can anyone explain a day to day to these(preferably the cyber ones)
1b4x1 - cyber warfare operations 1d7x1 cyber defense operations 1n4x1 - cyber intelligence 1nox1- all source intelligence 1N3X1 – Cryptologic Language Analyst 1C1X1 – Air Traffic Control AFSC
3.Can a potential lower score on asvab test hinder me getting a cyber job though I’m knowledgeable in the subject?
4.Would I be able to choose a base overseas or is it based on the job/ not my choice?
5.How does one move from one rank to another? Especially with these jobs listed.
6.If I don’t get a cyber job would I still be able to get cybersecurity certifications paid?
7.If I don’t get a cyber job, can I change at some point? If so how long would I have to wait to change?
8.Is tech school its own base or is it wherever im stationed at?
  1. What’s something you wish you knew before going into the af? Especially if your path is similar with mine
Thanks for any and all responses

2024.05.14 08:38 Anonymous_positivity The Story Of Baby, Crybaby's Long Lost Twin

The Story Of Baby, Crybaby's Long Lost Twin
(Fan made, alternate storyline)
Guys I created my own alternative storyline because simply can't accept that this is technically the end of Crybabys story and I'm going to ball my eyes out at the end of the trilogy tour so here's my storyline.
Crybaby & Baby are identical twins that were born on August 14th in Lennox House for the Mentally Insane Institute and into a fairly loveless household with an alcoholic mother, stoner brother and unfaithful father. Both of their names came from their brother altering their birth certificates as a cruel joke to give them names he felt fit their personalities. Crybaby was seen as the emotional, vulnerable, dramatic, and sensitive twin regarded as the good twin while Baby is seen as the chaotic, mean, sneaky, and vindictive twin regarded as the bad twin. Baby seen the family dysfunction for what it was and encouraged Crybaby to run away with her to a far away place in which she referred to as Dreamland from the toxicity so they could be happy together, but Crybaby was too naive and doe eyed to realize the severity of their house situation. Because of this, brother, mom and dad have held resentment against Baby because she wont keep her mouth closed about the problems in their family. From a young age they've always been inseparable and are almost always attached to the hip. To distinguish them, Crybaby dyed one side of her head pink and Baby dyed one side of her head blonde. Crybaby also curls her hair while Baby's stays straight. The twins natural hair color is very dark brown (almost jet black) Before the age of 5, the twins were so close and so intelligent they managed to create their own language barrier to communicate to each other which is sacred between them and others can't interpret. Because of their unhealthily codependence to one another and eccentric behavior, their brother viewed them as weird freaks who were better off set up for adoption or auctioned to be kept in mental hospitals and freak shows. Unfortunately being born into a dysfunctional family the twins rarely were given healthy attention and love and this caused many maladaptive behaviors such as isolation from outside contact, Stubborness, aggression, impulsivity, and impaired social relationships. This behavior was apparent to school kids who teased Baby and Crybaby (especially crybaby) for their trauma caused behaviors, teachers, peers, neighbors and their own family called them the Bipolar Twins for their hot and cold dynamic. However due to their contrasting personalities and temperaments Baby would find herself in constant comparison and competition with Crybaby which was fueled and started by their brother who planned to split them apart. (via, adoption) as their parents had enough of "Baby's" bad behavior they ended up giving her to Belham Orphanage an orphanage for the exceptionally "gifted" where she would never see Crybaby or her family ever again. Brother framed Baby for the things he did around the house (breaking dishes, lying, stealing candy, and initiating fights) and because the parents were so disorganized and chaotic they did not pay close attention to who was actually responsible for the bad behavior. Baby was the scapegoat to the family's dysfunction because she saw through it all. As Crybaby grows older she becomes more aware and more suspicious about her family and starts to discover that there is "another" other than her and Brother. Despite her questions her family especially Mom and Brother continue to gaslight her and remind her that it's all just a figment of her "imagination" and she needs to " "relax" with this Mom and Brother continue to drug Crybaby with Librium until any memory of Baby is completely erased and wiped clean out her mind. (Crybaby is around 7-8 at the time)
While Baby is in the orphanage she spiraled becoming depressed, cynical, and detached from those around her and refuses to even go outside. Mom, Dad and Brother dont visit her at all although Mom promised to take her home when she is "well" She often fantasizes and dreams about seeing Crybaby and running away together to "Dreamland" as months and years go on Baby slowly descends into madness and loses herself in the process.
Baby starts to reminisce hallucinate and dissociate regularly and have done for a long time. She dissociated in separate, regular episodes. Between these episodes she doesn't notice changes. She creates a different persona and goes under the alias "Bad Baby" in which she wears a porcelain doll-like mask and ritually dances in sync with her emotions. Baby accepts her insanity and fully embraces it as she sees no way out the orphanage.
Additional info - Baby is the older twin by a minute and 5 seconds making Crybaby younger
  • Baby's hair is commonly black and blonde while Crybaby's is black and baby pink
  • Crybaby is more bubbly and extroverted than Baby
  • Baby is the more aggressive mischievous twin
  • Crybabys pet is Felipe a black and brown tarantula, Baby's pet is Lunar a black bombay cat
  • Crybaby smiles more than Baby
  • when the twins were born Crybaby was named Crybaby because Mom complained about her crying/whining and Brother named her Crybaby while Baby came out silent and scared the nurses, they thought she was dead she wasn't, she simply was silent and was named Baby.
Feel free to ask me questions about it, and give me feedback on the plot, the twin dynamic and "Baby" as a character.

Securing a spot in these prestigious institutions can be a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the essential steps and provide valuable tips to navigate the admission process successfully.
Explore the best junior colleges in Chennai, renowned for their exceptional academic programs, experienced faculty, and comprehensive extracurricular activities. Find the perfect institution to kickstart your higher education journey with detailed information on courses, admissions, and facilities.
Understanding the Landscape
Chennai’s top international schools include names like the American International School Chennai (AISC), The British International School Chennai, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, among others. These schools offer various curricula, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), and the American curriculum, catering to the diverse needs of expatriate and local families.
Research and Selection
Identify Your Priorities: Determine what’s important for you and your child – curriculum, extracurricular activities, school culture, location, fees, etc.
Create a List: Make a list of potential schools that match your criteria. Visit their websites, attend open houses, and read reviews to gather more information.
Consider the Curriculum: Different schools offer different curriculums such as IB, IGCSE, or American. Choose one that aligns with your child’s future educational plans.
Application Process
Check Admission Criteria: Each school has its own set of admission criteria, including age requirements, previous academic performance, and language proficiency.
Prepare Necessary Documents: Commonly required documents include birth certificates, academic records, transfer certificates, proof of residence, passport-sized photographs, and sometimes medical records.
Submit the Application: Fill out the application forms meticulously. Some schools offer online application facilities, while others may require physical submission.
Entrance Exams and Interviews
Entrance Tests: Many top international schools in Chennai conduct entrance exams to assess a student’s academic capabilities. These tests typically cover subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science.
Interviews: Schools may also conduct personal interviews with the student and sometimes with parents to understand the child's personality, interests, and family background.
Preparation: Prepare your child for these assessments by reviewing past papers if available, and practicing common exam questions.
Financial Considerations
Tuition Fees: International schools tend to have higher tuition fees compared to local schools. It’s crucial to understand the fee structure, which may include admission fees, annual fees, and other charges.
Scholarships and Financial Aid: Some schools offer scholarships or financial aid to meritorious students. Inquire about these opportunities and understand the application process and eligibility criteria.
Additional Costs: Be aware of additional costs such as transportation, uniforms, extracurricular activities, and other miscellaneous expenses.
Final Steps
School Visits: Visit the shortlisted schools to get a firsthand experience of the campus, facilities, and the overall environment. This also allows you to interact with teachers and current students.
Decision Making: After visits and assessments, discuss with your child and make an informed decision. Consider factors like the school’s culture, teaching methods, and how they align with your child’s learning style.
Acceptance and Enrollment: Once you receive admission offers, review them carefully. Follow the instructions for acceptance, which usually involves paying an admission fee and submitting the necessary documents.
Tips for a Successful Application
Start Early: Begin your research and application process well in advance to avoid last-minute hassles.
Stay Organized: Keep track of application deadlines, required documents, and test dates.
Communicate: Maintain regular communication with the admissions office for updates and clarifications.
Prepare Your Child: Ensure your child is well-prepared for entrance tests and interviews.

2024.05.14 08:30 Acceptable_Rice_3021 How can some schools justify their 6 figure tuition ?

I did my MBA precovid (graduating c/o 2019) at a T30 where I got a full ride scholarship. It was a good school and over the past 5 years I felt that I’ve gained a good knowledge and I wouldn’t be where I’m at without my MBA. However I, by no means, went to the likes of HBS (Harvard), GSB (Stanford), Wharton (UPenn), Sloan(MIT), CBS (Columbia), where the schools can charge $180k tuition for their name brand degree.
But what about smaller schools such as Mays (Texas A&M), Merage (UC Irvine), Broad (Michigan State). These T35-50 still charge between 80-120k for their programs. This blows my mind. The best ROI I’ve seen outside of the T20 are Kelley (Indiana, #22) and Scheller (Georgia Tech, #27). Other than these two and a few others I can’t honestly see smaller schools charging so much. While I had a great time in my T30, I wouldn’t have gone there unless I was getting a significant (> 75%) scholarship (full ride in my case).
How can an international or even domestic student justify leaving their work for two years to attend these programs while taking on $100k debt ? How can schools charge so much ?

2024.05.14 08:18 Gold-Cartographer-40 Quash my theory about Robert Wone’s death

I’ve watched the documentary on Peacock but honestly, I haven’t dug incredibly deep into the details of the case like some of you have. I do, however, have personal connections to some parties involved in this case that have helped me develop a theory about Robert’s death.
As a queer person, I’ll say, it is ridiculous to assume that just because Robert had gay friends that he was gay. But what if he was?
Robert came from a traditional Chinese family where things like homosexuality were incredibly frowned upon.
What if Robert was homosexual, and had been hiding it from his family his entire life? Even going to the extent of marrying a woman (who I am sure he still loved and cared about nonetheless).
What if Robert found out he, like so far too many gay men, had contracted HIV? At least two of the men Robert saw that night were HIV+ at the time, what if he had been intimate with any of them in the past? How would he tell his family? What would he tell his wife? He would have to tell her to keep her safe if they were to continue to be intimate. This was more than 6 years before PrEP came out and HIV/AIDS was still considered by many to be a death sentence.
Perhaps Robert felt helpless and wished to end it all. Suicide would is also considered shameful in many cultures and religions. Maybe Robert was worried his wife and family would feel guilty if he were to kill himself.
What if Robert trusted his closest friends to help him with an assisted suicide? What if he came to them out of desperation to help him end his life on his own terms and make it look like a crime as to place the blame on an entity and not cause any suspicious to his sexuality or disease?
Joe’s brother was in school for phlebotomy at the time of the death, and it was confirmed that he skipped class that night. His alibi was only corroborated by two other close friends who could have easily been covering life him.
What if the five men, together, had a premeditated plan to help their friend end his life and had it all planned out. Joe, the lawyer, of course would plan the story down to the fine details and they would go over it many times before cops were ever called. They could have been planning for weeks it months. What if Robert showed up that night knowing it would be his last. What if the men gave him paralyzing drugs and put him in the bathtub where Michael used his phlebotomy skills to drain Roberts blood to reduce the mess/ cover the use of any agents or drugs used in the process. What if they stabbed him and then realized there was a finger print or something on the original knife so they had to fake a second one that was “clean”.
What if they packed up everything with blood and evidence and bagged it up and Michael left the house to dispose if the evidence before the police ever showed up? What f he was the person that was heard/seen using the back door but it was in exit not entrance? What if the remaining three men all took their showers and put on clean robes before calling the police to report the “stabbing”?
