2024.05.14 16:12 Outrageous_Title_674 Reconnected after 23yrs, got pooped on by a bird on our date. Good luck sign?

I'm now in my 40s and female. I first met M when I was 18 at our workplace. We talked, went out to lunch, went on dinner and movie dates. It's a long story but we never worked out. We would reconnect every couple of yrs until 14 yrs ago I cut it off and went no contact.
He was the guy. The guy that burned his way into my heart and soul with no explanation. I was searching for husband material and he was the total opposite of everything I was “Told” to look for. My feelings for him were unexplainable. When I was with him the whole world melted. He was that guy that taught me what I wanted and what I didn't. Broke my heart (no fault of his own, it was a crazy situation).
Fast forward 6 months ago I reached out this time. We texted a bit. Talked on phone to catch up. That was it.
About a month ago he reached out and said he's in a better position to be home and have the time to meet up due to a change in his job.
We finally got to meet!! After 14 yrs everything was still there. The attraction, the chemistry, the ease of talking and sharing. We shared about our lives and our memories and he was able to explain what had caused him to ghost me so many yrs ago. I explained how it affected me and where my life went after that.
The chemicals flowed. The dopamine, Oxy and all those bonding hormones flowed like a raging river. Completely uncontrollable and unexplainable. My deep care for him was the same as it was 23 yrs ago. His stare, his touch is intoxicating.
We went on a second date and during dinner sitting outdoors a bird pooped on my head! I told him it's supposed to be good luck. He came over and cleaned it out of my hair so gently I melted right then and there.
Do you guys think it was a sign?

2024.05.14 13:48 Ethreal_ r/guworld New Members Intro

The immortals were lost for words, they looked at Fang Yuan, who continued moving forward.
He was expressionless, no matter how many steps he took, Reverse Flow River was always still below his feet, as if fate was mocking and laughing at him.
But he continued walking.
He had traveled through five hundred years of experiences over his previous life, he did not know how much longer he would have to walk.
But he knew where he needed to go.
As if… nobody could stop him.
At least… inside this river, nobody could stop him.
In the five hundred years of his previous life.
Fang Yuan sat inside the bamboo house, he looked at the village, he looked at Qing Mao Mountain.
His fists were clenched, hope was displayed all over his young and tender face.
“It is time to give up the past.”
“Transmigrating here is my greatest opportunity! Because here, I can attain eternal life.”
“I have to make good use of this rare opportunity! Otherwise, how can I live with myself, how can I give up this chance?”
“Of course, right now, I need to improve the living conditions of me and my brother. Hehe, that little fellow…”
After the aperture awakening.
On the battle stage, Fang Yuan lowered his head, he was filled with shock and anger.
“I was set up!”
“Who set me up? Who does not want me to win in battle? The answer is obvious!”
“Brother, give up, you are not my match. Because of our differing aptitude, we are fated to be different.” Gu Yue Fang Zheng said with glee and smugness in front of him.
Fang Yuan turned around and left, he was filled with determination.
“Since the village refuses to nurture me, since my aunt and uncle are purposely pushing me aside, what is the point of staying here?”
“If I stay here, will I be able to get stronger and gain eternal life?”
“Why don’t I leave?”
Inside the caravan.
Gu Master Big Beard died, Fang Yuan stood in front of his grave.
The youngster was filled with tears, he sobbed: “Uncle Big Beard, rest in peace.”
“Thank you for the final present.”
“You said: When you were a child, you wanted to be a grand hero, like those legendary figures of the righteous path. When you were a youngster, you wanted to be a clan leader. When you were an adult, you were satisfied with becoming a clan elder. When you were a middle aged man, you were exiled from the clan, you felt that you could live by yourself just as well, you were satisfied with just raising your Gu worms and yourself.”
“But I am not like this, I will not forgo my dreams just because of age.”
“This world is too big, but we are all minor characters… I will work hard! I will definitely do my best!”

Childhood, adolescence, adulthood.
Qing Mao Mountain, caravan, he walked all along.
Middle age, old age, and eventually, lifespan Gu.
Southern Border, Western Desert, Eastern Sea, and Central Continent.
After his rebirth using Spring Autumn Cicada, Qing Mao Mountain, Three Kings blessed land, Hu Immortal blessed land, Imperial Court blessed land, Yi Tian Mountain, and Reverse Flow River!
Step by step, through difficulties and ordeals.
How difficult is the perseverance of one person?
All of the Gu Immortals here could answer that question.
Because among them, some persevered because of responsibility, some persevered because of hatred, some persevered because of excitement, and some persevered because of love…
And Fang Yuan’s answer?
He was still expressionless, he continued to move forward relentlessly.
I had once screamed, gradually, I lost my voice.
I had once cried, gradually, I lost my tears.
I had once grieved, gradually, I became able to withstand everything.
I had once rejoiced, gradually, I became unmoved by the world.
And now!
All I have left is an expressionless face, my gaze is as tough as a monolith, only perseverance remains in my heart.
This is my own, an insignificant character, Fang Yuan’s — Perseverance!

2024.05.14 10:14 puck_from_the_woods In light of seeing so many posts filled with frustration and resentment, as well as recently my own...

I've been on this journey for a few years, with the most intense exhilaration and the lowest self-destructive spirals. When my person stopped talking to me, I tried everything, moving on, reinitiating, doing things that would catch their attention, acting as if I was over it. The intense discomfort comes from avoiding what you don't want to face.
I've recently had intense periods of feeling very connected to myself, and to them, even though I heard nothing from them in years. I was once again who they showed me to be. But the few times I did this, I also thought: this time, when I reach out to them, they're bound to respond! I still believed them to be separate from me, someone that I could win over - that's where I fell short. When they didn't respond, I became furious. Why did it not work? What more do I have to do? Why can't I just say "fuck it" and move on?
And now I get it. Connecting to your shared soul, feeling their energy, is all about awakening to your truth, and standing in yourself no matter what's going on. The attraction and love you feel for them is one part of it, but how did it change you? Did they awaken an intense understanding, or inspire you to be a better person, chase your dreams, heal yourself? Because that's what the core of this is. And most of all... getting to feel the unconditional love present in each and every structure that makes up our world.
My friend recently described it as rocks in the river. Rocks represent the ego barriers, 3D obstacles, things we believe are blocking the flow, but the water doesn't stop because of it - it keeps on flowing around it, no matter if you step in and let yourself feel it, or stubbornly, out of fear, stay on the dry land.
I can convince myself that I no longer feel love for them of to satisfy my ego or to appear less vulnerable - because it's shameful in our society to admit strong feelings, we should all be independent and successful to deserve love, but that's just not how the world works. Everything is connected. Separation is an illusion. And there's very little that comes as close to representing that illusion as one soul in two bodies. Being present in myself is to feel an all encompassing love - not just for my twin, but in general. Becoming disconnected is what causes pain and maintains the appearance of isolation and suffering.
"But... is that really all there's ever going to be? Don't I deserve a real relationship with someone I love?" We all want nothing else than for them to love us the same way we love them. But if actions of your twin trigger you, make you feel rejected or abandoned - look at that. That's a part of you that requires love and attention.
Healing, spiritual awakening and connecting to the source is within, not outside, not paywalled nor locked behind countless steps, you can get there anytime. But if it's them you're after and you don't want anyone else... maybe accept that they may have their own things to do, learn, experience. They may feel all sorts of ways for you and not be ready, or they may be so disconnected that they can't feel it at all. And you have to let them. If you think they're intending to hurt you specifically, that's your mind talking. (If you're involved with someone deliberately hurtful, that's not your twin soul.)
And most importantly - there's no amount of healing and enlightenment that can change any other person but you, and expecting them to be your "reward" is borderline incel-y and creepy. They're their own human being, not a thing to possess.
You love them because there's no easier way to exist. Even if they date/marry someone else, even if they don't visibly reciprocate, even if they are silent, don't validate you and are not the one remedy for every bit of pain and rejection you faced? For every "if" that made you scowl and say "well no, actually", that's what needs to fall away.
Let go of every expectation for a "reunion" and simply become aware that you're already united and let it unfold however it will. Let yourself be carried by the unifying flow that's all around you; your love for them, theirs for you, every other kind there is, everywhere, eternal. And that's union.

2024.05.14 10:07 handsomeboh Project Caesar Lore Project: Yuan

Project Caesar Lore Project: Yuan
The last 40 years of Yuan is notable for being one long period of pretty much constant uninterrupted civil warfare. To get an idea of what this was like, imagine playing on 100% Overextension for 100 years. Despite this, the Yuan was also a period marked by prosperity, tolerance, and culture. It’ll take too much time to explain everything that happened before 1337, so we’ll just jump straight into 1337 and if anyone is interested I can write a separate thing explaining how the Yuan got here because that shit was crazy. This will surely be my first campaign when Project Caesar releases.
In 1337, the Emperor Toghon Temur had been ruling for 5 years, but had been passed as a puppet through various dictators culminating in the military dictator and Grand Chancellor Bayan of the Merkit. Bayan is popularly considered to have been insane, executing nobles at random including the Empress, and famously suggested a massacre of every Chinese person with the five most popular surnames to reduce rebels and famine support. However, Bayan’s nephew Toqto’a turned out to be a great Confucian scholar, warrior, general, and capable administrator who was convinced by scholars that it would be righteous to launch a successful coup that took down Bayan in 1340. For nearly the first time since Kublai Khan, Yuan court politics were stable and controlled by capable, loyal, and decent ministers. This period was also marked by the rise of Empress Gi, a Korean noble and mother of the heir Ayushiridara. The Gi family pretty much controlled both Korean and Yuan courts, which you can read more about in my Project Caesar Lore Project: Korea post.
However, the Empire that Toqto’a oversaw faced crippling debt, soaring inflation, regional factionalism, rampant natural disasters, and widespread rebellion. The first three were largely related to the tribal succession system inherited from the Mongols, where Mongol princes voted for the next Emperor. In practice, this was hardly a democracy. Mothers, generals, ministers, and grandmothers often pre-decided the votes, and in many instances, rival factions nominated different candidates that led to civil wars or chains of assassinations. The system was prone to systematic corruption, as Mongol princes with land and armies had to be bribed for their support through lavish palaces (including the construction of three different capitals) and cash grants, but the extremely dogged resistance put up by the Song dynasty, as well as multiple failed invasions of Burma, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia had all but drained the state treasury. The Yuan adopted paper currency from the Song dynasty, which was a great innovation, but constantly devalued it by issuing new series between 1320-1365 to fund the unending expenditure, leading to inflation rates estimated at 80% for nearly the entire period.
A particularly bad El Niño effect simultaneously caused rains in the West and droughts in the East of the Yellow River, leading to floods in the Central Plains, damaging harvests and causing famines in all three areas. The Yellow River gets its name from the silt it carries downriver from the Loess Plateau which blocks the waterway and makes it prone to flooding. These floods further damaged the Grand Canal used to transport food from the fertile south, threatening the north and the capital with famines too. Floods, droughts, famine, and poverty exacerbated sanitation problems, leading to epidemics. Entire provinces could be lost to epidemics - a wave in 1353-1354 wiped out 70% of the population of Hunan and 65% of the population of Shanxi. These were made worse by a sudden surge in earthquake activity including the particularly strong Huailai earthquake in 1337 which levelled the region around the capital Khanbaliq. Almost like a sign from Heaven, none of these were one off occurrences. The Yuan faced 12 earthquakes between 1337-1350, major floods roughly once every 6 months between 1335-1345, at least 60 million people died in epidemics between 1331-1362, and by 1348 due to lack of funds for repairs the dikes holding back the Yellow River lay broken and the Grand Canal became largely impassable. This was a really, really, really bad time to be alive.
In the face of all this calamity, the White Lotus cult began to spread rapidly among the populace. The White Lotus was an old Buddhist cult which worshipped Maitreya, the Buddha of the future. As is common among people who are dying and starving, the cult promised that a Prince of Light would pierce through the Darkness with Fire and usher in an era of light and peace. If this all sounds like some Game of Thrones shit, scholars believe that the White Lotus was heavily influenced by Manichean traditions during the Tang Dynasty from Persia, which is what the Lord of Light also draws inspiration from. Militant factions soon galvanised into Red Turban rebels, who were initially sporadic and easily crushed, but combined with Song restorationists, hungry peasants, unpaid soldiers, and local gangs until they got bigger and bigger and effectively became little states. Beginning broadly in 1351, Red Turban rebel groups erupted all over the country, forming two broad groups. The Northern Red Turbans were led by Han Shantong, who claimed descent from the Song Emperors, and claimed to be the Prince of Light. The Southern Red Turbans were led by Xu Shouhui, a cloth merchant. Realistically, this was less Star Wars and more the Godfather on steroids. The groups backstabbed each other, splintered among themselves, and caused their own measure of chaos and disaster, though in the initial phase they did cooperate to seize Yuan territory.
Amidst this backdrop, Toqto’a kept trying. A much needed military reform tripled the Yuan army, and put it in the hands of battlefield promotions rather than Mongol princes. In 1353, he launched his biggest project yet, the repairing of the Yellow River dikes, diversion of the Yellow River to flow into the sea and prevent further flooding, and repair of the Grand Canal, using a corvee labourer team of 150,000 peasants. Conditions were rough, and the Yuan court was too broke to adequately compensate the labourers while also doing famine relief, so many labourers revolted to join the Red Turbans. Against all odds, Toqto’a succeeded and with the alleviated relief expenditure was able to focus his attentions on the rebels. By 1354, he was able to concentrate his forces and prepare for the final annihilation of the Red Turbans at Gaoyou. Instead, the Emperor recalled Toqto’a and had him banished. He asked to at least be allowed to finish exterminating the rebels, but was ultimately denied. There are lots of theories about why Toqto’a was banished, the common one is that the Empress Gi wanted to eliminate an opponent to her control of the Empire. I think a more likely one is that Toghon Temur feared the second coming of Bayan.
With Toqto’a gone, the rebel numbers were swelled by labourers and angry soldiers loyal to Toqto’a, eventually losing nearly the whole of China south of the Yellow River, or about 70% of China today, including the entire Grand Canal, which placed the North in a famine. However, the foundations Toqto’a had laid were relatively solid, and allowed another military leader Chaghan Temur to emerge. He had been a successful general since 1351, but had to pretty much recruit and train an army from scratch, though by 1358 he was doing quite well. In 1358, Chaghan Temur launched a blazing counteroffensive which recaptured all of North China. To the North, the Mongol princes were getting antsy about the growing success of the non-royal Chaghan Temur so the Yuan court forced him to give up his previous lands whenever he reconquered new ones to various princes under the command of Bolad Temur, the father of the Emperor’s second wife. In 1362, Chaghan Temur was assassinated in a siege in Shandong, probably by Bolad Temur’s assassins. He was immediately succeeded by his nephew and general Koke Temur, who continued his advance southwards to reclaim the Empire. This successful advance took back control of the Grand Canal, alleviating a developing famine in the North as shipments of grain could finally pass through again. At roughly the same time, forces of Muslim Persian militias and mercenaries allied with Persian merchants and tried to declare a Muslim state in Fujian home to the great port city of Quanzhou, though this was crushed by another capable and loyal Chinese general Chen Youding, who would be one of the last bastions of Yuan loyalty in the South.
With Koke Temur defeating the Northern Red Turbans, the remaining Red Turbans coalesced by 1363 into four rough groups. Remnants of the Northern Red Turbans retreated South into the Lower Yangtze led by beggar monk Zhu Yuanzhang. Xu Shouhui was assassinated by his subordinate the fisherman Chen Youliang, who established himself in the Yangtze River Valley. Xu’s more loyal followers regrouped under the farmer Ming Yuzhen and retreated into the Sichuan region. Finally, the pirate lord Fang Guozhen controlled the coast of Zhejiang, and a salt merchant Zhang Shicheng controlled the richest cities located on the mouth of the Yangtze River. Of these, Chen Youliang had the largest armies, Zhang Shicheng had the richest lands and had submitted to the Yuan as a kind of high liberty desire vassal (that was willing to ship grain North to stop the North from starving), but Zhu Yuanzhang had the most legitimacy as he controlled the Prince of Light, and was able to attract many Yuan defectors including talented generals and ministers.
In 1363, Bolad Temur’s coalition of princes began to attack Koke Temur’s positions from the North, forcing Koke Temur to leave the South to exterminate the threat. Even after ending Bolad Temur in 1365, Koke Temur remained in the North to deal with Bolad Temur’s subordinates, which kept him occupied and unable to redeploy south against the Red Turbans. The ever-suspicious Emperor also stripped Koke Temur of many titles after several defeats, placing him on the defensive. The Red Turbans didn’t just sit there either. Between 1360-1363, Zhu Yuanzhang and Chen Youliang fought a long war that culminated in the legendary Battle of Lake Poyang which you might remember from AOE2, and one of the largest naval battles ever. Chen’s gigantic armada of floating fortress tower ships were completely destroyed by a smaller force of fire ships, supposedly causing the death of up to 600,000 sailors. Zhu then invaded Zhang Shicheng, by sending a blocking force to prevent Koke Temur from reinforcing him, before decisively defeating Zhang by 1367. In 1368, the remaining rebels submitted to Zhu, who was able to declare himself Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, or the Dynasty of Light. Both Chen Youliang and Zhang Shicheng were actually posthumously rehabilitated as rebel heroes, and up to this day some regions worship them.
Bogged down in constant infighting, Koke Temur could do little to stop the Ming forces advancing northwards until they captured the capital of Khanbaliq by Sep 1368 and renamed it Beiping. The Yuan court did successfully retreat into Mongolia, where Toghon Temur died in 1370, succeeded by Ayurshirida. The Yuan actually had a sliver of a chance still. Koke Temur had been able to join the new Yuan Emperor up north, and local loyalists including the Kingdom of Dali and the Mongol prince Balawaswarmi continued to hold out. In 1372, a massive Ming army was destroyed attempting to invade Mongolia, losing 150,000 men, which allowed a successful counteroffensive that was poised to retake the North in 1373, potentially with aid from the Koreans, whose ruling family had been intermarried into the Mongol imperial family for generations. Instead, no aid came and Koke Temur died in 1375, followed by Ayurshirida in 1378, squashing the dream of reconquest.
The Ming would continue to attempt to destroy the Yuan over many decades, but would never really succeed until 1410 when the Ming backed the Oirat tribes to subjugate what was left of the Yuan. An attempt was made as late as 1395 to ally with Timur for an invasion of China, though Timur died on his way there. Ultimately, the fall of the Yuan was marked by endless twists and turns, betrayal and intrigue. At multiple points, the Yuan had great heroes who could have salvaged the situation, but were mostly betrayed by infighting. The Ming were by no means the guaranteed victors until pretty much the very end, and had a fragile beginning marked by rebellions and political intrigue. Even after the Yuan retreated from China, this could have gone either way.

2024.05.14 08:49 Fair_Cartographer838 What could this dream mean? Loaded with violence and trauma/horror

I had a dream probably 12 years ago that I’ve never forgotten, during one of the darkest times in my life when I was scared I’d fail in life
The dream began in a volcanic Ashland where I was traveling with a ragtag band of refugees trying to escape some horrible volcanic event or maybe even super volcanic event, so we were all journeying through this grey valley flanked by ashen mountains with a few distant volcanoes, I was the leader of this group and they were depending on me to hopefully guide them to survival.
We came to a huge obsidian temple structure and it was built onto the valley wall so we had to climb it to ascend out of the valley, so we entered. But the building had an ominous energy like something dark was sleeping inside of it.
Part of the way up, a young boy in my group was running ahead even though I told him to wait and tried to run after him, but as happens in dreams my legs were like lead and I couldn’t keep up. I had this growing sense of dread.
Then the boy slipped off the edge over an overhang and as I looked down after him he plunged into a lava pool, burning to death. My sense of dread didn’t go away it only increased. Somehow I knew (maybe because it was a dream made by my own mind) that that wasn’t the only horror that awaited us in here, this place wanted all of us not just the boy.
That dread manifested as the boy came clawing his way out from the lava pit and let out a horrifying cry like a nazgul or a ghoulish undead, with his flesh bubbling and dripping off of his bones in places he began sprinting with inhuman speed back towards the entrance of the obsidian temple he had fallen from, right back into the entrance.
My band of refugees began panicking, torn between the anguish of watching the boy die and the horror dawning on them of what he had become- a monster- and why he would come sprinting back into the temple some floors below us.
We all heard the inhuman commotion as his undead body slammed into corners, so great was his speed, and we all realized rather abruptly that he was closing in on our group.
I urged the group to begin climbing the stairwells that wrapped around the precipices of this obsidian temple, up towards the valley wall. We had only one possible escape: somehow reaching the top and whatever salvation waited for us up there from the desolate volcanic wasteland and the undead monster that had once been a little boy. So we all begun to sprint, but we were slow.
some of the refugees had bags, some were elderly men and women, it began to dawn on me that we had no hope to escape as i heard the monster closing in from below. I turned to confront him, readying to fight with no weapons.
When he emerged he looked at me with his ghastly skull shining through his melted off face and he spoke and said "You did this to me so I will punish you by making you live while your people die." And he ran past me with superhuman speed and tore into my group, beginning to butcher these weak powerless refugees even as I tried to fight him, plead with him, even as I tried to urge them to keep running, he eventually killed every last one of them with his long ghoul clawed skeletal hands.
"Im sorry." i said to him. "Im sorry i let you become a monster." and he just smiled back at me and stepped off the ledge, plunging again into the lava, this time to rest eternal, but the carnage of my mangled people now lay all around me, and still the black obsidian stairway beckoned, leading up into the tallest passes of the ashen mountains where smoke and fog obscured the path, I had nobody left and nowhere to go but up.
So i went up. Up, up, up through winding valley corridors of sheer black jagged rockfaces, ascending thousands of steps until the atmosphere seemed thin and the night stars shone from above, the distant red glow of the lava flows fading to a dull reminder of the carnage i was leaving behind me.
eventually the climb slowed but the path continued and the stairs began to turn downwards, the rock walls opened up into a dusty grey plain of old ash that had blown here from distant eruptions in the ashlands below, but it was cold up here and dark, and the fog parted and i saw in the distance a structure, not ominous and unnatural like the obsidian temple but a human structure, a distant farmhouse, but I had a feeling when i looked down the winding stairs at this house like i was looking into the blackness of a night that has a rapidly approaching tornado, totally invisible, the sight of this farmhouse gave me a sense of existential dread greater than even the obsidian temple had inspired. But i knew i had to keep going forward anyways. So, with despair in every step, i put one foot infront of the next and kept walking.
As i approached the house I realized its scale, it was not some small farmhouse, more of a manse, and the stairs on this path led straight to its roof where the stairs that had once led down from its top were gone. There was only a gaping black hole in the roof, my only way forward was into this abandoned structure, so with a heart full of fear i lowered myself down into pitch blackness.
I found myself in an ash flooded attic full of furniture like old spinning wheels and some misshapen objects with soot stained sheets over them, the room was so very cluttered with dillapidated old stuff that i could hardly navigate it. I kept bumping stuff then I froze, because on thr far side of the room i saw a sillouhette standing motionless. A feminine sillouhette that seemed like it moved slightly as I brushed against an old desk, causing a noise.
As she reacted, she turned towards me and I saw her face, and her mouth hung open, her jaw split in two, one half dangling and the other holding a malicious grimace.
She moved like a squid striking out from inky blackness at its prey, lifting up off her feet and drifting rapidly to me, her mangled jaw soon centering around my field of view as her face filled my vision and she grabbed the sides of my head, talking to me
"You have to pay for what he did to us, you have to see it all"
And she entered me, i just remember at this point in my dream my vision was full of motion, like she had possessed me and was flying me through the pages of her own history book, in a misty ashen blur of colors and shapes i found myself chopping wood in a dark forest with green leaves around, when a rage filled every fiber of my being and i turned towards a tent, gripping my axe as i swung it through the fabric, turning it on my first wife (in my dream i understood this to be the vision of the woman's husband when he murdered her with his axe) and splitting her jaw and head open rather than any log
I was crying abd begging to be left alone and allowed to leave when we swirled back into the attic, and the ghost was standing right there with inhuman stillness, i couldnt look away from her mangled face as she said "now you know what he did to me…" and she slowly disappeared into a small mist
I was deeply disturbed and crying and disoriented as i looked around the attic and saw a small wooden panel with some grey filtered light showing through it and i went that way, but as i did another ghost of a different women, her neck angled violently screamed at me and grabbed me and possessed me, now I was her husband, the same man with his second wife wringing her neck as she turbed blue
In this manner a series of murdered women ghosts possessed me, forcing me to witness their deaths from the poijt of view of their killer, all killed by the same horrible man in different violent ways, in total 7 stories of 7 murders of 7 dead wives, and each one whisming me to another part of this forsaken farmhouse where they had lurked waiting for whichever man was unlucky enough to enter this cursed homestead
My experience dreaming this was mostly an unsettling amount of vertigo during the dream and images of violence and these ghastly faces of ghosts filling my vision before flying me to another room where another ghost would stand motionless waiting to possess me, the entire time i felt like i was crying and falling from a very extreme height
Eventually though the last ghost released me from her possession and i stood in the kitchen room where she stood with me, her face blue from drowning in a bath tub, and she smiled at mr and spoke more gently than thr others had, she reached to take my hand but when i flinched and screamed she dropped her arm back down to her side and just smiled sadly at me
"Thank you"
And she and all other ghosts were gone and it was just me alone in this forsaken manse's kitchen, and i heard a sound i never expected, trickling water. So i walked towards it and found a back door on the ground level which opened easily, and i stepped outside and saw some white, ash-filtered sunlight and a sight that took my breath away, about 300 yards away was a running river with lush green trees and plants and a thundering waterfall, and i knew that my trials had passed as i walked out towards the end of the ashlands with my boots squishing in fertile muddy soil, and i woke up completely drenched in a puddle of my own sweat

2024.05.14 07:29 xRealmReaper I like specific songs

To add to the title, I only like specific types of songs (that follow a general chord progression, think river flows in you). Is this an ADHD thing, or am I just weird? Is anyone here the same? Like, there are SOME songs outside of what I typically like that I can listen to, but if it doesn't follow something similar (they do not have to be exactly the same chords, just a general trend), 99% of the time, I will not like it, no matter how good a song it is. For a long time, I only had 6 songs in my playlist until I actually started seeking out more music to listen to lol.
Rambling over.

Original Prompt

Chapter 26
"Okay, what about...that one. The five stars about...two handspans above that dune?" Cass asked.
Kher looked where Cass was pointing, holding his torch aside so he could get a clear view of the stars.
"That is one of the Twins," Kher said, "See the three stars to the right? That is her brother, fleeing the Serpent."
"Weird." Cass had unbraided her hair earlier in the night because of the chill. Now she was trying to hold it out of her face so she could see the stars clearly. "In Sammos they're the Mother and her child, running to embrace each other after being parted over the winter season."
"Or reaching for each when the winter floods wash the boy away," Charis added. They were riding on Cass's other side, holding their torch down low over the side of their camel to keep the light off of Cass's left arm. She appreciated the gesture.
"In Chol they don't' have a name for those stars," Cass continued, "but they do have a Serpent. I don't think it's visible this time of year though. And in Harenae it's the 'Father and Son'. The father's teaching his son how to hunt."
"Do they have a story in Desheret?" Kher asked.
"I haven't heard one." Cass turned in her saddle to look back along the short caravan. Kebb was nowhere to be seen, probably keeping vigil in the rear. Anatu was attached to one of the carts, which only left Nuu as someone she could see to ask.
"Nuu!" She called, waving. They looked her way, eventually approaching. "What do you call those stars?"
"Is there a tale to them?" Kher asked.
"The three bright ones?" They looked skyward vacuously for a moment. "That is Sobek, a large crocodile that follows the flood waters of the Great River. Those stars are his open maw."
"What about the five stars to the left of them?"
"The two lower ones," Nuu said while pointing, "are his body. The upper three are his tail curled around."
"Ah yes, I can see it!" Kher said excitedly. "A more creative tale, I think. I wonder how it is yours is so different from our tales. We call them the-"
"Hey, Cass," Charis whispered, leaning closer, "you mentioned I could see your arm after dark?"
She looked down at her bandaged limb and flexed her fingers uncomfortably. The wrappings were much tighter now that she'd had ample time out of the sun.
"Okay, but keep your torch away." She tugged on the knot holding the bandages in place, let them loosen, and unwrapped her arm. Charis gasped as her skin showed in the starlight with thin motes of light of its own.
Under the light of the sun or flame, Cass's arm was thin and the skin looked brittle and burnt. The comparison to burnt wood was not uncommon. But under the stars and moon it looked wholly different.
"Beautiful," Charis whispered, gazing at the black abyss. The colors and patterns within it were similar yet very different from the sky above. As Cass moved the lights moved as well, as though flowing through her limb. Never the same pattern twice.
"Thanks." People were always mesmerized by her arm at night. The ones who weren't convinced it was a blight of some sort, at least. She extended her hand to Charis. They looked up at her briefly for permission, then took her hand in theirs. Unlike during the day, there was no pain. Their skin didn't feel uncomfortably warm either. In fact it was rather cool and pleasant.
Charis tucked their long curls behind one ear as they laced their fingers with hers. She lifted her hand closer to their face so they could take a closer look.
"It's strange," they said softly, "your hand looks so different, so..."
"Weird?" Cass offered.
They shook their head. "No...magical. But if I close my eyes I would be unable to tell this hand from your other."
Weird, odd, cursed, strange, these were what Cass was used to hearing her arm called. The only person who'd ever complimented her on it like that - who'd called it magical - before was Helen. Back before the war, before she'd killed the King of Sammos. When their encounters were furtive and hidden at night.
"Oh?" Cass looked away and tried to change the subject. "Can't tell your left from right?"
Charis chuckled and gave her hand a squeeze.
"What's going on here?" Nuu asked while riding closer. Their torch illuminated Cass's arm and the pain instantly came back. It wasn't as bad as if she were caught out in sunlight, but the entwined fingers became sore. She only barely got her hand out of Charis's before her hand clenched reflexively.
"Damnit!" Cass swore.
"You need to back away, Nuu." Charis said hotly.
"Calm, everyone, calm." Kher spoke up. "No need for such vehemence. Nuu, I believe they want some...alone time?" He gave Cass a big smile through his braided beard.
Nuu narrowed his eyes at her. "I thought I saw her changing."
"I wasn't. You'd know if I was." She felt bad enough every time she saw their sister's brass leg. Being reminded that they were survivors of one of her attacks was not a pleasant vortex of emotions.
"If you lose control-"
"I don't lose control! I've never lost control. It's not something I'm not in control of." Cass clenched her left fist, reminding herself it wasn't worth hurting them. "Put your torch out and I'll show you."
"I've already seen it."
"You've seen it as an enemy. How about I show you what it actually looks like?" Cass turned in her saddle and extended the black and burnt-looking hand. Nuu recoiled, but there was a curiosity behind their eyes. They gave a quick glance at Charis who lowered their torch behind their camel again. Nuu did the same, and Kher followed suit. Bathed in darkness again, they all looked at the starry field of Cass's arm.

2024.05.14 01:04 Ezbayt Whenever I dream, immediately write the dream down. I do as little editing as possible what is read is as true to my recollection of the dream as possible.

“I want to know your deepest fear. I want to know what floods your mind and causes your neural synapses to fire.”
A pop up advert for an official off earth resort fills the screen with a nauseating array of bright colours juxtaposed by a minimalist design style. The advert boasts of and promises a new life on the colony of Mars. An en-suite apartment that captures the earth in all its distant splendour. A sound plays and endless colourful dots fill the screen followed by a sanitised artificial voice : “ The Mars colony produced around 2 billion tonnes of waste last year.”
This electronic vision is interrupted by an enormous violent outburst. Glass shatters and pops, heavy cybernetic feet pound the floor followed by manic howling. “ Where is Che?!?! where is Che?!? I need Che!?”
One may have mistaken this commotion for a toddler in distress but this was no mere toddler. Indeed, the individual causing this commotion was a young man named Matthew Theron, yes of the Theron family. Somehow I knew this character and knew that his very presence had a serious gravitas.
In this dream I am accompanying Che, the advert for the new life on Mars is projected on a screen which we both grind our teeth at due to its slow speed of progression especially given the circumstances, we need a way out of this place and we needed it now.
Che features are indescribable, what I can confirm is that she is indeed a specimen worthy of the envy of men and woman alike. And I would liken this dream and its atmosphere to that of Helen of Troy who in her passions against her husbands, the rich and powerful Menelaus, brought ruin and tragedy to the city of Troy and those who lived behind its walls.
CRASH! This time a steel door is sent flying through the air followed by more howling
“Che! Che where are you!?! I need Che!”
I cast my eyes down the hall, glass lays strewn about all natural wooden floor and a small crowd begins to gather. My focus turns to Che and I whisper frantically, “We need to get out of here now.”
The sign up for this new life ends and we are greeted by a new announcement by the screen. “ your transport will arrive in 1 minute. Please make your way to the designated area.” Fortunately for us, said designated area was located atop what I can recall being a rather tall and imperious building, the exact building we were trapped in.
“We’ve gotta get outside, go now” I say, grabbing Che by her arm and shoving down the hallway towards the roof top exit. The sound of heavy feet fills the chaotic ambience behind us. Wham! Bam! Bam! Glancing over my shoulder I see Matthew , eyes aglow in manic fury, hair wild, the smashed glass crunching beneath his bare feet as he stalks his way closer.
“Che!” He howls.
“Che! I need you! I want to know your deepest fear! I want to know what floods your mind and causes your neural synapses to fire!”
He takes off running, I shove Che and move to intercept the cyborg. Despite his speed I manage to grab him by the scruff raise him into the air, slam him down and essentially fold him like a piece of paper all in a single motion. I turn and bolt to the door noticing that Che is holding it open for me. Just as I make it there, the cyborg reforms itself. Legs, neck and joints snap and twist back together like a corpse reanimated by a necromancer. At once his assault resumes. I slam the door, locking it but it is immediately blown off its hinges.
“The ship! The ship!” Yells Che.
We sprint, leap and jump into the ship which lifts off and clears the building just as the cyborg comes within reach, just in time its doors close and full throttle is engaged.
Last image I have is of that cyborg madly throwing himself off the buildings roof in rage induced attempt and clearing the distance between the abyss below and our Space Craft. Rage still burning in his eyes.
This commotion is interrupted by a screen similar to that observed earlier which thanks us for choosing this particular brand for our off world adventure and reassured us that we have made the correct decision. This is all followed by an infomercial showing what looked like a river flowing with millions of different pixels on a stark white background, with the announcement once again recalling the 2 billion tonnes of waste that was produced by the Mars colony of last year.

2024.05.13 22:41 d0nk31 Bob Dylan 1971

I dont think that anyone has 1971 as his favorite Dylan year. He wrote only an handful of songs and done only 3 concert appearances. He was slowly returning to the scene that will lead to Blood on the tracks and the Rolling thunder Revue and yet It Is this period that has bene recently on my mind (and on my headphones).
Of the Song written the most important are of course Watching the river flow and When I paint my masterpiece. It Is not surprising that in a time of calm and reflection he wrote mostly about his Art.
(On a small note he had also done a strange recording session with Allen Ginsberg and wrote George Jackson( in a way a spiritual predecessor to Hurricane) and also a very simple and cute country song called Wallflower. Very worth a listen if you havent done it)
Watching the River flow Is a strange Song. A Song about the never stopping and never forgiving passage of time ("Why only yesterday I saw somebody on the street Who just couldn’t help but cry But this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though No matter what gets in the way and which way the wind does blow"). A Song so close to themes of the bucolic life of new morning and yet so different in many ways. Many think that this is about him wanting to withdraw from the music industry and yet there is "Wish I was back in the city".
I Always think that when I Paint my masterpiece Is the perfect self portrait of the enigmatic lying poet(and yet not afraid to make himself look silly, like the geese). The song has Always changed Just like Dylan both lyrically and musically. Of course there Is the question about rubble-trouble but also the Botticelli's niece-girl from Greece and many more. There Is also the cutted line "With a picture of a tall oak tree by my side" that together with some of the line from watching the river flow makes me think a lot about zen and eastern philosophy. Musically speaking you go from the slow and thoughtful version of '71 , the pure energetic rock of 75 and the many other different version even to this day
It Is not a wonder that he has sung both of these songs so many times in his concerts and being both present in Shadow Kingdom (and particularly with masterpiece as the opener).
Talking about concert he did two shows on the same day for the concert for Bangladesh. Most of the songs are on the official album but there Is also to talk about the beautiful version of "if not for you" with George Harrison. These two linked spirits with their Guitar and harmonicas, laughing and singing together, just two friend on a stage with nothing else worrying their minds. The third and last concert of '71 is the legendary and improvised concert of new year's eve with the Band. In this regard Robbie Robertson said "We had played with Bob so much, over the years, that we thought: We’ll figure it out. We’ll wing it,” and also "You know, we haven’t played this song in years. Some of the songs, we had never played together. But even that fell together, in its own kind of way. He sang his heart out, and it was a lot of fun that night.”.
Thank you for having read my rambling and I am sorry if I have made any grammatical mistakes.

2024.05.13 21:20 EmbarrassedSupport68 Electric Power Stations Ship to HI?

I'm trying to set up my emergency stuff, and one thing I am missing is an electric power bank. We have several small ones but I want to get one that I can plug the fridge/ freezer into incase we loose power for a long time or just have ample power for devises incase we have to move. We cant afford to put up full solar on the house. The problem that I am having right now is that I cannot find a store that sells them on oahu, or if I look online they do not ship. I want an electric power bank incase we would have to move to a different location and be able to a pannel to get more power. I don't want to use gas b/c of the noise, storage and transportation of gas, and smell- also incase the pumps get compromised in some way, I rather use the gas for a car to get somewhere else.
random example: EcoFlow: 800W Output/1600W Peak Push-Button Start Battery Generator

For those that do not have solar do you have a XL power bank and how did you get it- I need the hookups lol

2024.05.13 20:46 RepWeinbergD20 Updates on D-20 Issues and a Personal Matter

Hi it’s Carl Weinberg from District 20 on the Stamford Board of Representatives. Today I’ll provide updates on several subjects of interest to D-20 residents and others, along with an update on a personal matter.
Bridge Projects: The number one question that I get asked is: When will the Cedar Heights Bridge project be completed? Unfortunately the report is not good. The contractor ran into problems over the winter with redirecting the river’s unusually high water flow. (I’m speculating that it was due to the excessive rainfall we experienced all winter.) This delayed several activities including demolition. Water flow has receded sufficiently now, and the contractor has resumed the delayed activities. At this point, the contractor anticipates completing the project by November, and possibly opening the bridge to traffic somewhat earlier.
I understand how frustrated we all are with these continued project delays, and I wish I could share better news. I’m also frustrated that the public generally doesn’t find out about these delays unless and until we ask for an update. (The City’s website still forecasts June 30th as the expected completion date.) I don’t doubt that this has turned out to be an unusually complex project, and I understand that sometimes a project runs into unexpected challenges. Nevertheless the public should expect periodic progress updates on a project that affects so many people. I will be looking for a way to implement a system for providing those updates.
Because of the Cedar Heights delay, the Wire Mill bridge project won’t begin until next year, probably in April 2025. Current expectation is to complete it in six or seven months, i.e., by November 2025 assuming an April 1st start date.
The Lakeside Road bridge project, which began on April 1st, remains on schedule with an expected completion by the end of November 2024.
Traffic and Road Safety: One of the danger spots in District 20 is Riding Stable Trail, which also serves as the entrance to Dorothy Heroy Park. It’s an old country lane that gets a lot of traffic during baseball and summer camp seasons. At the request of residents and myself, the Traffic Department is moving the existing stop sign, adding a second stop sign, and painting new “stop” lines, all of which should help to deter speeders. The Operations Department is also working on securing the Park at night. I hope to have more to report on park security there in a few weeks.
Anyone who drives south on High Ridge Road during high-traffic periods will notice a backup at the High Ridge / Interlaken traffic light, due to vehicles waiting to turn left onto Interlaken. Interlaken is the detour route during the Lakeside Bridge project, which has exacerbated the problem. I discussed the situation with the City’s Director of Traffic, who is now working with CT DOT to adjust the traffic light so it’s easier for vehicles to make that left-hand turn. (CT DOT owns the traffic light, hence their involvement.) I’m hoping that we see positive results over the next few weeks from this adjustment.
The Traffic Department has been very responsive in working to solve these traffic and road safety issues – thank you!
800 Long Ridge Road Proposal: On May 9th I attended the Zoning Board’s site visit at 800 Long Ridge Road, where the property owner has applied for a Special Permit to build a 354-unit apartment complex. The Zoning Board began to hold a public hearing on this proposal at its May 6th meeting. Because of the lateness of the hour, the ZB suspended the public hearing and will now continue at its June 10th meeting. The agenda for that meeting will contain Zoom and sign-up information, but it hasn’t become available yet. Once it’s available, I’ll notify the public.
Scofieldtown Dog Park: The Parks & Recreation Commission continues to work with its consultant on the design of a prospective dog park in Scofieldtown Park. At its May 15th meeting, one of the Commissioners will provide an update on the “evaluation and design regarding the size of the dog park.” The 6:30 PM meeting will be held on Zoom, and here’s the Zoom information:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87689487270 Meeting ID: 876 8948 7270 Passcode: 122464
NSA Annual Meeting: The North Stamford Association will hold its Annual Meeting on Sunday May 19th at the Long Ridge Fire House, 366 Old Long Ridge Road. Lunch is at 12 Noon, and the meeting will begin at 1 PM. You must be a member to attend, and you must pre-register. (You can join or renew your membership at the event.) Here’s the link for registration and additional information:
https://www.northstamfordassoc.org/2024-annual-meeting/
And now for an update on a personal matter. After three previous cancellations, the BoR will hold its Special Meeting at 8:30 PM on Wednesday May 15th to consider a resolution to censure me for “conduct which impairs the ability of the members to perform the duties of his or her office or substantially impairs public confidence in the Stamford Board of Representatives.” The censure includes a “recommendation of Representative Carl Weinberg to complete sensitivity training.”
The precipitating event was my op-ed in the February 11th Stamford Advocate. In the article, I criticized the practice of double-dipping (defined as serving on both the BoR and the Democratic City Committee), quoted double-dippers’ previous comments criticizing the practice, and compared their adoption of double-dipping after previously attacking it to the behavior of characters (the “ruling pigs”) in Animal Farm, the classic novel by George Orwell. As a result, I am accused of calling other BoR members “pigs.”
The meeting will take place in person at the Government Center and on Zoom. Here is a link with the in-person and Zoom information.

If you want to review the legislative record, you can click on “Resolution” and then click on each component of the legislative record, including (among other items) the proposed resolution, the op-ed, and emails and letters on the subject from residents.

2024.05.13 19:59 United_Patriots The Nature of Orion [43] - Domain of the Dakquo

Thank you u/SpacePaladin15 for the amazing universe!
l Prologue l Previous l Next l
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Memory transcription subject: Kalsim, Captain, United Federation Fleet
Date [standardized human time]: December 30th, 2136
It became harder and harder to remember why we came in the first place when the simple process of landing on the ground was tantamount to stepping back into the past.
So many of the sensations granted by the asteroid sanctuary, the smells, the sights, the sounds, were so hauntingly familiar. Of flying from treetop to treetop, seeing my non sapient kin fly free of the burden of galactic existence. Of fruits and berries picked right from the stem, carrying with them flavors that bordered on ecstasy. The calls and cries of a nature beaten down time and time again, but still managed to stand back up on its own two legs every single time.
So much of it was familiar, yet so much of it wasn't.
"Kelum, do you recognize that?" referring to the foreign call sounding off in the distance.
He was still trying to process his surroundings, beak poised catch several insects. "Uh...no, I don't."
I turned in the direction of its source. "Neither do I."
"What about that bird from earlier?"
The one that flew by the viewport? "Didn't recognize that one either."
"Shit then." Kelum slowly returned to guard mode as he began sweeping his rifle over the foliage. "Your the big history guy here, I'm relying on you. What does it mean that you don't know?"
"Well, maybe call it a gap in my knowledge..." my attention was caught by a strange cluster of berries perched on a nearby bush. Collected in bunches, the fruits were oblong, almost cylindrical, orange with black spots across the skin. The aroma was sweet and tangy, something I knew several officers on the Lyakuda would love to use as an air freshener. And it was entirely unrecognizable.
Yet some base instinct inside of me said that it belonged. That it all belonged. That the ferns and grasses adn the strange noises that seemed foreign to my home were in fact an integral part of this one. There was song being played that I couldn't quiet yet hear, but I knew was there. Whether it was one that I would enjoy was still up for debate.
"Captain?"
"Wuh?" I spun around to see Kelum checking me with a look of concern.
"You kinda zoned out there for a sec. Are you alright?"
"Sorry, I was just thinking." I stepped back from the bush and into the clearing. "I...don't know what to make of this. This place..."
Kelum shrugged. "Couldn't tell you either cap. I'm just along for the ride at this point."
"All I need you to do is to keep that gun raised, just in case." Some part of me said that it would be unnecessary. After all, the Federation wiped out any native species that posed even the slightest threat to a krakotl. And by all means, this place seemed like Nishtal. But then again...
A sharp cry grabbed the silence and violently broke it over its knee. More like a wail, piercing in its effect, little needles in our eardrums that seemed to stab more and more as the seconds dragged along. The pitch never faltered, even as the cry let the background jungle settle back into its normal rhythm. I looked over to see Kelum taking deep breaths, before I realized I was too.
"Cap, what the fuck was that?" For the first time since we arrived, tendrils of genuine fear seemed to creep into Kelum's voice. At the very least, he was never letting go of that rifle ever again.
"I don't know, I never heard that before either."
"Well I need you to start knowing right fucking now, cause I don't like that shit, not one bit."
"Neither do I, but we need to remain calm. Now's not the time to start acting like Sivkit," another awful wail echoed in the further distance, "so keep that rifle up."
Kelum didn't need to be told twice. "Maybe we shouldn't stick around. Maybe we've seen everything we've needed to see."
Some part of me agreed with him. You didn't need to be a prey to not be comfortable sharing a space with whatever made that sound. And I don't think that's all this place has in store for us. For better and for worse...
"We saw those buildings. We were just in that observation room. This place is more than just a sanctuary. We need to keep going."
Kelum raised a talon in argument, faltered, then sighed. "If I die here, I'm gonna fucking kill you cap."
That somehow raised a chuckle out of me. "Glad to see your still you."
"You drag me to the gallows, least you can do is let me get the last laugh in." Kelum pushed past me and began sifting through the undergrowth. "I'll lead. I think the town was this way."
Directions, thankfully, weren't going to be an issue. Despite its gargantuan size, the sanctuary appeared to have a pretty simple layout. A giant circle, with the town at the center, surrounded on all sides by thick jungle. All we had to do was walk forward. If only if it was that simple.
I did manage to recognize many of the plants that composed the flora, only due to their absence on the Nishtal I knew. The undergrowth there was absolutely sparse in comparison to here, mostly thanks to the Federation's anti predator efforts. Without natural balances to keep them in check, the native herbivores of Nishtal went wild, stripping the ground level nearly down to the very soil itself. If not for our geoengineering tech, the planet would've suffered an ecological collapse that would've made the Cradle look like hiccup in comparison.
This place seemed to suffer no such issues. Great for the local ecosystem, terrible for us. For not only was it hot, not only was it humid, we had to push through vine and bramble so thick it was nearly impossible to squeeze through. It didn't help that the we seemed to be heading down a slope, so the atmosphere only got thicker as we descended further. It came to the point where I almost considered stripping off my vest so I wouldn't die of heatstroke on the spot. Thankfully we came across a small clearing, which gave us the opportunity to catch our breaths.
"How close do you think we are?" I asked between pulls of impossibly humid air.
"Don't know, but we have to be close." Kelum looked up to the 'sky', where the 'sun' had really reached its zenith. "Hard to tell, but we're definitely making progress."
"Stars above, whatever this is must be worth it."
"Better fucking be. Not dying of thirst on some secret asteroid zoo run by...fuck I don't know. You said you thought it was someone up high who contacted you?"
"Yeah, but that was just a confident guess."
He chuckled. "Maybe this is just his private resort or something. They definitely have the money to hollow out an asteroid. Maybe there will be a pool and a bar on the other side of this bush."
I had to admit, the possibility was funny. "If this was just a roundabout way for Nikonus to invite me over for a drink, I swear to the stars above I'll glass Aafa myself."
Kelum laughed. "Glad to hear your in a good mood cap."
"I'm not."
He stood up, ready to get on the move again. "At least you know what a joke is. Did you know I used to work for Jerulim? Head so far up his ass he forgot what-"
The rustle from a nearby bush cut off Kelum's admiration of our ambassador. He trained the rifle on the source, talon itching to let the weapon bark. The pistol in my holster gained a newfound presence as something began to emerge from within the shadows.
"Alright then, come at me you...oh."
The creature that caused us so much worry turned out to be a small lizard, scales verdant, barely the length of my wing. It crawled from underneath the bush and across the dark earth of the clearing. It took a moment to regard us with two beady side facing eyes, before it began on its way once more.
Kelum lowered the rifle, and began breathing once again. "Damn, little buddy there gave me a-"
Before he had a chance to finish, a rush of air came from behind, and a flash of green and gold plucked the lizard off the ground right in front of our eyes. Before we had a chance to fully process what just happened, the bird was away, propelling itself skyward, the unfortunate lizard grasped firmly in its talons.
We stared dumbly as the...predator ascended, then leveled out, before finally disappearing behind the canopy. Kelum went to say something several times, but each attempt only seemed to point his rifle closer and closer to the ground. Finally, he turned to face me directly, his face the farthest point from comprehension it could possibly go.
"Cap, did that..." he didn't need to finish his sentence. I was still struggling to construe it, but we both saw the same thing.
"Yes, it did."
Kelum nodded his head, before turning it back to the sky. "It did..."
As the shock of the lizard being hunted wore off, I managed to have some thoughts on the situation. This place is definitely not the Nishtal I know. The Federation would never let a bird like that exist in any form besides ash. Yet here it was, in a facility no doubt constructed by the Federation. Is that what the note writer wanted us to see?
"Cap?" I turned to see Kelum once again wear that worried expression. "Any ideas?"
"I...don't know. Maybe this is...some sort of facility to study predators? An isolated environment, far from any inhabited planet, where they won't pose any danger?"
Kelum sighed. "I think that's the best we got right now. But that still doesn't explain the town."
"No, it doesn't." At this point, I was worried that the distant collection of buildings we saw would only serve to raise even more questions. Who lives there? More krakotl? kolshians? Is it empty? But standing around wouldn't answer any questions. It'll kill us, given everything we've seen so far. "Kelum, we have to keep moving."
"Yeah, your right, but with all this..." He paused, before looking at me, then himself. "Are we stupid?"
"Uh...what do you mean."
"Cap, we're birds."
"Yes, but..."
"...oh..."
We had become so enamored with our surroundings that we completely forgot the fact that we could fly.
"Yeah, oh." Kelum slung his rifle over his shoulders, and extended his wings out to their full length. "Hopefully we can just fly right over all of this shit."
"Good thinking, wish we thought of-" Another rustle caught my attention, this time from the nearest tree. In the shadowed canopy far above, I could just barely make out something slinking among the branches.
Earth and debris began to swirl as Kelum went airborne. "Something wrong Cap?"
"Nothing, it's just..." Another branch moved, then fell entirely still. Out of all things, why does this seem so...
And then all at once, days spent at the academy flooded back. Memories of illegal histories and textbooks downloaded over the internet, of countless nights spent secretly learning my peoples true history, of why the Federation even considered us prey in the first place.
Oh no.
"Kelum, KELUM!"
"Cap, wha-"
My yell was enough for Kelum to falter, just enough so that the blur that leapt out of the tree missed him by a feathers width. It landed on a trunk opposite to me, claws sharper than an Arxurs digging into the bark. Its earthen fur, which camouflaged it amidst the foliage, now stood on its ends. A growl gurgled from between its barred teeth, and four forward facing eyes trained directly on me.
For a moment we stared each other down, as we both processed the fact that we were seeing specters. My breath caught, my wings were shaking, and I couldn't focus. Partly out of fear, partly out of the impossibility of the whole situation.
Your supposed to be dead. The Federation killed you, they killed ALL of you.
But it didn't care much for the Federation. It only cared about me. Because it was the predator, and I was now its prey.
It launched off the trunk, almost defying gravity as it crossed the gap at a nearly imperceptible speed. I tried to dodge out of the way, but I only managed halfway before an unfathomable pain flashed across my chest and sent my spinning into the earth.
Something warm and sticky filled the space between my vest and chest as my vision faded in and out. Loud pops sounded off one after another, fully killing the already injured silence. That terrible wail once again echoed distantly, cut off by another pop, and the calm returned once again. Shadows invaded the corners of my vision, threatening to overtake everything. As the false sun dispapeared behind Kelum, consciousness finally slipped away.
The pain was the first thing to greet me, followed by the contradiction of the relatively cool air. The battle between them, the pounding agony and the soothing cold, was what awoke me from my imposed slumber.
Fluttering my eyes met we with large splotches of grey and gold, spattered over my vision like spilled buckets of paint. It took several moments for everything to gain defintion, while another spot of blue went back and forth across my sight.
K...Kelum?
Something I did caught his attention, for he stopped in his tracks and immediately came to my side.
"Captain....Cap...can you hear me?"
"I...Kelum?"
"Yeah, yeah, Cap, it's me. It's Kelum."
"Kelum..."
Kelum was standing over me, fatigue dragging at his features. His talons, his wings, his vest, all of him was smeared with violet. Looking behind him revealed that we were in some sort of cave, orange light cascading through the distant entrance. The rock reflected it all, granting the scene an almost...magmatic appearence. Like everything was going to melt right on top of us and burn us alive. My chest already felt much that way anyways.
"Stars above, your awake. I thought you weren't gonna make it."
I managed to look down to see that I was entirely naked, spare for the fithly fabrics wrapped tightly around my chest. They, along with the feathers surrounding it, was also stained a pugent violet.
"Kelum," a cough sent bolts of pain running across my chest.
"Take it easy, Cap, take it easy." Kelum pressed a talon on my shoulder to keep me from gettiing up. "It got you pretty good. You lost a lot of blood."
"Wha...what happened." My memory was still fuzzy, no more defined than my vision mere moments ago. All that was there were feelings, of fear, pain, confusion, and in some small note, even awe.
"That...that thing, it almost got me. If you hadn't had called out, I...fuck, that fall would've done most of the work." Kelum's brevity was all but gone, leaving behind a bloodied, anxious wreck. "And then it pounced on you, got you across the chest. There was so much blood, I thought you were going to..." He trailed off as he considered the possibility. It was still a possibility.
"Hey," I managed weakly. "I'm still here. It hasn't got me yet."
Kelum managed to regain some of his composure. "I...had to use your vest as a bandage. I don't know how long it'll hold, but it's stopped the bleeding for now."
I looked down at my chest again. Somewhere beneath the tattered remains of my uniform laid a gash that nearly ended my life. There was a momentary urge to peel back the fabric to see how bad it was, but that would only hasten things at that point.
"Kelum...if I don't make it..."
"Cap, don't say that."
"Kelum, it's my job as a captain to realistically assess the situation we find ourselves in. And the fact is that I can't fly. I don't even know if I can walk. Odds are that more of those Dakquo are roaming around out there, along with stars know what else. If this," I pointed to my bandage, "doesn't get me, everything else will."
"Cap..." Kelum didn't want to accept it, but I could see that he knew it was true. I was living on borrowed time.
"Kelum, for what it's worth, I wouldn't have chosen anyone else to come with me. Even in this place, you've flown above and beyond the call of duty. And for that, thank you."
Kelum couldn't help a tear from rolling down his cheek, one which he quickly wiped away, leaving behind a little smear of purple. "Thanks cap, it's been an honor serving with you too."
Kelum stood over me for a long moment, before setting down beside me. He glanced deeper into the tunnel , before turning back to face the entrance. "Cap?"
"Yeah?" My breathing was beginning to grow more ragged.
"You mentioned a Dakquo? Was that..."
"Yeah, it was."
Another moment of silence.
It's ironic, isn't it.
"It was a predator from before the Federation arrived. It likes to hide up in the trees, waiting for something to fly past. That's when it pounces. I...became fasncinated with it in my youth. To think, such a powerful creature once roamed our home, that we coexisted with it peacefully for so long. And in an instant, the Federation took it all away. I never thought I would see one. I was never suppsoed to see one. They're supposed to be all dead."
Kelum took another glance back.
"So when I saw it there, about to pounce, a small part of me couldn't help but feel amazed. Something they took from us, something that once defined who we were. And there it was, right in front of my eyes."
I coughed again, and pain roared back once more. Kelum gripped me tighly as it slowly faded, but didn't fully disppear. I didn't have long. Hours, maybe a day or two at the most.
I looked down at the wrap. A small bead of blood peeked out from the wound, which I picked up on the tip of my talon. It glowed pink under the fading light.
"It's funny. It only took a thousand years, but things are finally back to normal."
Kelum glanced back once more.
"Kelum, what are you looking at?"
"I.." he blinked, "I've been trying to ignore it, but there's down the tunnel there."
"What do you mean? Is it-"
"It's not alive, but..." his look said it might has well been. "I'm gonna check it out."
"I'm coming with you." I moved to stand up, but Kelum placed a talon on my shoulder.
"Your not going anywhere cap. Walking around isn't gonna do you any good."
"Like sitting here is." Ignoring my wound scremaing murder, I stood up, and balanced myself on two shaky legs. "I'm not sitting this out. Not anymore."
"But cap-"
"Kelum, I came here because it was a choice I could make. Let me make this one too."
Kelum moved to protest, but only managed to sigh. He unholstered my pistol, and handed it off to me. "If you die now, I'm gonna kill you cap."
That managed a frail chcukle out of me. "Glad to see your still you."
"Fuck, I'm glad too."
Every step was like ten years spent on a cattle farm, but I was able to at least walk. We began slowly creeping deeper into the cave, with Kelum bringing up his weapon light against the encroaching darkness. It revealed something only barely visible from our previous spot, a set of...bones. Inching closer showed that the corpse wasn't of a bird, or that lizard, or even the Dakquo. Rather...
"Wait..." Kelum pasued his light on the skull, where two forward facing sokcets stared back. The snout was elongated, housing row upon row of razor sharp teeth. It rested near what remained of the creatures long tail...and the hands...
"No way..."
Kelum turned his light on one of the hands. Four fingers, and...two thumbs.
"That can't be possible." Kelum swept the light to the other arm, and the story was the same. Four fingers, two thumbs. "No, this can't be right."
It wasn't supposed to be possible, but it was. It was staring us right in the face, with sockets that housed eyes that once terrfied the entire galaxy.
"It's an arxur."
Before we even had time to process the discovery, noises from back where we came caught our attention. Kelum turned towards the light, rifle raised in anticiaption of another attack. I raised my pistol, before a flash of agony nearly sent me to the ground. Something tore, something seperated, and my chest suddenly began to feel too warm. I looked down to see that the bandage had gone loose, and the blood was beginning to run free.
"Oh shit, Kalsim, hold on!"
"It's fine...it's fine." I lowered to the ground as Kelum began frantically ripping off his own vest. The blood was running in little rivers between my feathers as my gaurd despratley tried to stem the flow. But it wasn't working this time. Even with mine and his, the makeshift dressing wasn't enough to prevent what was coming now.
Everything began to fade, Kelums deseperate pleas for me to stay awake, the approaching footsteps, what sounded like voices, all rapdily consumed by the encroaching fog. Even the pain, which seemed to slink away with every passing second.
It was so...peaceful. Even as Kelum began to shake me, even as he was thrown aside by a shadowed figure, I wasn't afraid. Maybe I lost the capacity to be afraid. The path set for me left me liable to be shot or annihilaited at any given moment. I long accepted the inevitability of my death, but I was no hurry to greet it. And now here I was, knocking on the door.
The darkness envloped me entirely, and sensation quickly fell away. Just as I crossed the threshhold, one final thought occured to me:
At least it was all my fault.

2024.05.13 17:51 player2start87 Decoration experiments: using water temple base.

Decoration experiments: using water temple base.
I'll have little-to-no reliable internet until around the 26th. So, I wanted to get some stuff I've been working on posted while I can. Sorry, it's long and a bit jumbled. Actually had to break this into two posts because of picure limits. This is the second part that I split off of "Decor experiments: islands, rock formations, boats, and piers/docks." So there's probably some sections here that were written assuming you had already read text from that one. Anyways!
I tried recreating the temple-like battle arena, from u/FlorianMoncomble's recent post. (https://www.reddit.com/tinyshop/comments/1clik4y/wrapped_up_a_tiny_flooded_arena/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1). I was trying to get as close as possible, but I would definitely alter some things otherwise. I'm happy with the setup up to the tops of the columns, but I'd say I was unsuccessful in attempting to recreate the stones resting on top of them. It occurs to me that I've never really attempted to create a roof, all of my buildings have been open air with the insides on display. I'm sure it's possible to build roofs, especially using techniques like those for building islands and piers. However, I don't see how I could combine this technique with the columns to make it appear that the roof is resting on and fully supported by pillars. It is also difficult to create the appearance of a single very tall wall, you can create multi-storied buildings, but the walls will always be slightly staggered, not a straight line. Overall though, I'm pretty pleased. There's plenty of different methods you could use to create your very own temple complex. Water or otherwise. I got a bit carried away, tried a whole bunch of quick themes (copy of the sea arena, catacombs, Fire/lava temple or metalsmithing factory, ice caverns, freshwater temple, sun/light temple, sunken pirate ship, and a grand library). The library is the only one with a layout alteration, and that's only on the "field of play". Mostly just playing around with floor and wall items, didn't mess around too much with decor items except for trying to make lava walls and ghost pirates.
Suggestions: a wall set, or a set of standalone wall decor, that is either twice or one-and-a-half times as tall as a normal wall, so tall structures can be constructed. 1.5 size may be easier to blend with normal sized walls though, in the same way we can use combos with half walls now.
Also, a lava or bloodberry slime wall of some sort, so we can create flowing rivers in a fire temple sort of way.
Finally, a set of column decor so we can create colonnades (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/colonnade). I would recommend a set of three or four items: a single post without a topper (basically like the column decor we already have, like "ll" or slightly smaller, like "l"), a single post with a square top piece (maybe slightly larger than the post, but doesn't affect the footprint of it, like "]["), and a post with a long rectangular top piece (resembling a "T", but taking up the same floorspace as the other two. This would leave gaps of flooring available under the shelter of the top, so plants or figures could be placed between the columns). The idea is that the T can butt up against another T (TTT), or can butt up against a square top for accents or turning corners (TT][TT), and the untapped post would be able to fit "under" the top of the T (TlTlT), so columns could be placed together as densely as desired, perhaps even creating solid walls. And if the long sides of the T top butt up against one another, they could form roofs too. Finally, a set of two columns with a shared rectangular topper. Maybe only one column base has a footprint, so that little items could be set in the opening.
I think that covers what I wanted to say. Any questions, feel free to ask, but I may not respond quickly to to internet connection.

2024.05.13 15:57 TheprophetLNS LNS 30: A Parable About Money

A Parable About Money
1 And the Lord said unto me:
2 What good is money?
3 What use does gold and silver have beyond this world?
4 What good does a man do from storing grain in his barns if all outside are hungry?
5 What Good is money?
6 What use does it have?
7 Can it buy favor with God?
8 Does the Most High need it to barter for things He does not have?
9 How much human money should the Most High possess to be considered great?
10 How much would it take you to get you to listen?
11 How long until you realize so long as you need money to love God
12 You will always be poor!
13 In fact, beggars, prostitutes, and thieves are even richer than those peoples who need money to be happy.
14 Woe to them!
15 For they walk an endless path, lacking in truth & love.
16 They have ventured out into the desert without water, but they did not forget their burlap sack!
17 Their coin purse hangs by their side, filled with 30 pcs of silver.
18 But look!
19 They have betrayed themselves.
20 They have wandered from a path of paradise, to an endless, pathless, lifeless, land of death.
21 Look around, nothing can survive this land.
22 So too, will be the fate of those humans whose personal happiness was determined by money.
23 What good is money?
24 What use does gold & silver have?
25 Does it provide wisdom to live a better life?
26 Does it increase the love that flows from one's heart?
27 Does it cause a man to be selfless and sit and eat with the poor?
28 Does it cause a man to look after his brother, mother, and sister?
29 Does it cause one to confess the glory and mystery of the living God?
30 No!
31 It makes fools appear to be wise
32 It makes smart men into blind fools
33 It causes sons to turn against their mothers.
34 It causes fathers to kill their wives and sons.
35 It makes people proud,
They proclaim their wealth is like a great river,
36 Yet they refuse the thirsty and don’t even have a drop to spare for their own friends.
37 It makes a man forget his family starting with the ones he loves most.
38 But even as God, who holds the keys over the grave humbles them.
39 They cling to their money, like a human clings to their nakedness in the cold.
40 They do not proclaim the glory and mystery of the true living God.
41 They see God’s judgment as a threat to their wild and lawless ways.
42 But they are fools!
43 For it is their wild and lawless ways that have invoked the judgment of the Most High.
44 In the last days, they will not cry out for more money!
45 In the last days, your rich men will beg the poor.
46 In the last days, no one will cry out for justice.
47 In the last days, they will cry out for mercy from the living God.
48 In the last days they will pray for the rocks to crush them.
49 They will hide their faces from God among the rocks,..
50 Fear will consume the earth and God’s justice will re-configure the scales of man.
51 All of this will come to pass on account of humans whose hearts were set on dead things like gold & silver.
52 And since the majority of mankind had their hearts set on dead things.
53 The majority of mankind shall be reunited with those things in the next life; which is death.
54 It is only in the absence of true love, shall they realize, in their eternal suffering.
55 The truth.
56 What good is money, what use does even have in this world?
57 What good can it do, that the Most High hasn’t already done?
58 Can it buy favor with the Most High, can it raise a man from the grave?
59 What good is money, what use does it have in the world!
60 What good is money when the rich man begs the poor man in the end?
61 So go forth and be free!
62 Live your lives with love and integrity.
63 Celebrate the bountiful and prosperous life that was given to you freely from the vast wealth of God.
64 So behold the wealth of God!
65 Whose wisdom extends beyond our lives in this world.
66 Who has extended his invitation to all who are hungry to attend the feast.
67 Whose grace is never-ending to all those who ask for it.
68 And whose favor rests with the lowly and humble.
69 The Most High is sovereign, His throne exists high above the earth.
70 And what we observe; flows from His mighty word.
71 He commands the seasons.
72 He causes the depth of the oceans to rest in their places.
73 He possesses no human money, and His greatness will reign long after the world just as it did before.
74 What good is money?
75 What use does it have on earth?
76 When in the last day man will cry out for mercy, not money.
77 Man will cry out to God to save them.
78 Not for money to rescue them.
79 So those with eyes to see and ears to hear should pay close attention to these words.
80 Spend more time getting to know the ways of the living God and less time making money,
81 For an unrecognized voice goes unnoticed.
82 In the last days, unrecognized voices will go unanswered.
83 But like a good father, the Lord will answer the cries of His children.

2024.05.13 15:55 Repulsive-Lunch3515 TowardsRocketScience

I wanted to have a modpack that not only has immersive tech and advanced rocketry but also uses it with some logic. And it should have some progression in it.
Immersive engineering is great but once you have the heavy industry to mine ores and generate power you are already done with the endgame.
Advanced rocketry is great but (disregarding all its bugs) it can have improvements in power generation and material processing.
So I created my own modpack and changed many recipes and the energy system so that you actually need to build the beautiful heavy generators of immersive tech to power your factory and the refined storage system. And you need to use the multiblock machines more often for recipes that can no longer be crafted in a craftingtable.
Let me introduce: TowardsRocketScience
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/towardsrocketscience
A Modpack for lovers of Advanced Rocketry and Immersive Tech
With this modpack you can build rockets and travel to other planets or build a space station!
You can use a buildcraft quarry to help you in early game to get some ores while you start to create your little Minecolony. With the ressource production from your colony and the quarry you can build more expensive heavy industry machines to start your rocket production. Of course heavy machinery needs heavy power generation. You can use the diesel generator for the basic machines but you want to upgrade to a steam turbine if you want to get your industry going.
You can dig for oil with the giant pumpjack and refine it into diesel in a large distillation tower, or you go "green energy" and make a solar tower. Last one might produce less energy but does not require any fuel.
Oh and one more thing: If you need water, you need to get it from a river or ocean biome because there is no infinite water in other biomes. if it is a large distance to the next river / ocean you could build a railway with tank carts to collect a ton of water at once and store it at your base. You can also find water deep underground and pump it up like oil. The core sample drill will help you there. You better find a good water supply or there is no steam turbine for you. And you need some water to generate rocket fuel.
Guide on power generation:
1: Early game:
For early game power generation you can use buildcraft engines. Combustion engines can burn oil, diesel, gasoline and lubricant - but the last one does not make much power. You can collect oil with a bucket from oil springs or use a pump to power your combustion engine.
If you do not see any oil you can build stirling engines and burn coal. You might find a dark oak biome where you can get much wood in a short time because of the big trees.
2: Scaling up:
Once you have crafted a distillation tower you can refine oil into diesel, gasoline and lubricant. You can use the diesel in a diesel generator. This will give you some good power for your rocket factory or to power an excavator. The gasoline can be processed in a portable generator or in a buildcraft combustion engine.
Note: The buildcraft engines need a energy bridge to connect with other energy systems. Pipe buildcraft energy into a MJ energy consumer. Place the energy bridge next to the consumer. Place a RF/FE energy producer next to the energy bridge too. You can now use connectors to connect wires to the FE/RF producer. You can reverse this process too if you want a high speed quarry ;)
3: I need more POWER!!!
Build a gas turbine - it can burn gasoline much more efficiently than a portable generator and it makes much power. It also does not require water but it is a very loud process.... Build a boiler to burn diesel or biodiesel and produce steam. pipe the steam into a steam turbine. Of course you could just build a big diesel generator array 4: Power on space stations:
Because there is no infinite water you will need different ways to produce water and energy.
You can mine for gas on gas giants and use oxygen and hydrogen to make steam in a refinery and pipe it into a steam turbine. Collect water from the output of the steam turbine. Note that for the steam turbine to generate power you need a high flow rate of steam. If the flow rate is too low you will not get energy. If you have no water but access to gasoline or rocket fuel, you can use both in a gas turbine or a portable generator to produce energy. A gas turbine will output a little water when you run it on rocket fuel Build large rockts with fluid tanks and load water or fuel from the ground to power your space station tips when gas mining: burning rocket fuel in a gas turbine will give more energy and less water using a steam turbine will make more water but less energy Steam turbine vs Gas turbine vs diesel generator:
Steam turbine (~12k rf/tick):
fuel: very fuel efficient, burns diesel or biodiesel(2x) water: needs much water to run but you can recycle some of it noise: no loud noise size: large - (distiller), boiler, turbine, alternator starting: slow startup, boiler needs to heat up and turbine needs to spin up tips: use distilled water to get more steam from boiler and spin turbine a little faster Gas turbine (~12k rf/tick)::
fuel: burns gasoline or rocket fuel, high fuel consumption water: needs no water noise: very loud size: small - turbine, alternator starting: needs start helper, fast startup tips: use oxygen / hydrogen from gas mining and make cheap rocket fuel to power turbine Diesel generator (~4k rf/tick)::
fuel: burns diesel / biodiesel, more efficient than single block engines, can sustain pumpjack and distillation tower very easy water: needs no water noise: a little noise size: very small starting: instant starting, tips: works great to power an excavator. because it produces the same power that the excavator needs Guide on Advanced rocketry:
Rocket science is way too complex to write it all here. Have a look at this guide on youtube: https://youtu.be/XAaM1xsY5KE?si=IGdPcm_Z5dlM1hcm
Note: The Terraforming process is speed x200 in this modpack - who would want to wait for weeks to transform a planet?
Asteroid mining:
There are some additional asteroids for you to mine:
You can find glowing asteroids that can provide you with glowstone and blaze powder
You can find end asteroids and nether asteroids.
Optifine and Shaders
Optifine is recommended to run the included shader. Other shaders except for the included one might have skybox errors.
Optifine and shader installation:
get Optifine from here: OptiFine Downloads (download optifine for 1.12.2) run the jar file click on "extract" move the optifine_MOD.jar to the mods folder when using shader, find "config/advRocketry/advancedRocketry.cfg" and open in editor. Set "overworldSkyOverride" to false. If this is set to true you will get skybox errors
Note that the shader has some difficulties to run on other planets. It uses the end shader now on other planets. you can turn off shaders in the video settings. If you want to play all without shader you can edit the advanced rocketry config and set "overworldSkyOverride" to true. This will enable better sky in the overworld but it is not compatible with shaders.
If you have improvement ideas or something else to say feel free to share!

2024.05.13 15:14 MattanaMinistry Mattana Ministry - Senior Program - 13 May 2024

Mattana Ministry Welcomes You To: Senior Program: 13 May 2024 Theme: Love: The Fruit of the Spirit(4) Scripture: Ps.27:4-8; Matt.6:33; Matt.5:44 & 1 Cor. 10:13 Message: When Your Love Walk Is Tested
Love, joy, peace, goodness, and kindness are all supernatural expressions of the character and presence of God who lives inside us. When we yield to them, the Holy Spirit enhances and strengthens them in us to become a river of living water that flows out of us to help bless others!
But… even though we have a fountain of love springing up in our spirit, we still live in a world with…people. And people are a guarantee that we’ll still go through some tests and trials. The devil will see to that!
He will constantly tempt us to step out of love and into strife, unforgiveness, or offense. But we don’t have to be a victim of these attempts to steal our fruit. God says no matter what temptation we face, He will always give us a way out of it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
That means, all we have to do is stand on God’s Word and resist the devil, and he will have to flee from us. We can actually stand in front of someone who is screaming at and accusing us, and make a decision not to be offended. Yes, it’s possible! And it is so freeing.
How can we get to this place?
By spending regular time with God in His Word and in prayer. Praise and worship are powerful weapons, too. They really shut down the devil. The more time we spend with the Lord, the easier it will be for us to respond in love to any situation—even when people are being unlovely, unreasonable, irrational, or all three.
The best part?
We’ll be a happier, healthier person and be pleasing to God in the process.
MM

2024.05.13 15:05 resynchronization 5/13 Narrows Update (currently **closed**) - open thread

Current flow is highly variable this time of year so check current conditions at the park before heading to the trail head. We're at the time of year where people start wondering "will it be open when I'm there?". Unfortunately, very difficult to predict exact date for opening but, with the predicted temperatures at Duck Creek, the Narrows will likely stay closed for somewhere between a week and two weeks.

In 1986 an Italian professor working for the University of Pavia in Italy would have a face to face encounter with an unknown entity. But unlike so many other encounters, this professor was able to take 5 photos.
To begin with, I will state that this post was months in the making (mostly waiting and chasing false leads) and carries with it perhaps some answers, plenty of questions, and perhaps for some, a similarity to their own experiences. Special thanks to u/Neo-Rex as well as u/ebycon for their assistance in helping me find and rule out some areas of research.
Disclaimer: The following images and text are provided without photo manipulation on my end (besides simple cropping and scanning). There are going to be many references in this post to Italian media, magazines, as well as individual writers. This is by no means an endorsement, advertisement, or other form of ARG intended to sell, market, or persuade anyone to buy, rent, or procure any of the described materials. Because I know this is a new area of topic, and because the images provided are of an unusual nature, I will provide various sources to prove that these images are not enhanced, manipulated by hand or by a contemporary photo manipulation program or AI generation.
Before we get into the nitty gritty of the images I will provide background as to how I came upon these images, and the flow of information.
I was first made aware of these images after researching separate alien encounters for a post of mine (see that post here for further details regarding that) one of the sources used was "alieni in italia 1945-1995 50 anni di incontri ravvicinati". On page VIII towards the back of the book these images (or rather image as three were compressed into one section) as well as the following text appears
https://preview.redd.it/zz1ti49qm60d1.jpg?width=806&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e53f7b8ec62fb68abc04a29caa117d2f21c13325
"Vero alieno o scoop giornalistico?
Translated: "Real alien or journalistic scoop? I have avoided including in the present catalog this singular case. These are in fact some photos(5) taken by an unidentified "university professor from Pavia" in the summer of 1986 and published by seven. The weekly newspaper Corriere della Sera. They refer to an alleged alien entity that allegedly manifested itself to the professor in a completely random situation. There was no shortage of unfavorable opinions expressed by several ufologists. ( Photo taken from: Seven No. 9/10 seven days illustrated by Corriere della Sera, March 5, 1988.
That was all the information provided within. (it should be noted that although this description mentions 5 photos, there are only these 3 provided within Moreno Tambellinis book.) These images captured my attention fairly quickly as I am fairly familiar with purported alien/supernatural photographs, so to find one I have never seen, and in such a quality which is general not present within other such photos as these, was more than enough to tip my curiosity in the direction of delving deeper.
First attempt at finding further information regarding these photos, and this particular magazine issue ended in little success, though I was able to find what I, at the time, believed to be a correctly colorized image of this entity. See below.
https://preview.redd.it/xpyz6eeum60d1.png?width=341&format=png&auto=webp&s=292a9a3afe55c7e83d0f6d5ccce43aa5f35d9fec
Unassuming on some random blog that attributed a name to this entity while providing no further information regarding the image itself (as certain ufological circles are want to do). Not finding further information I attempted to find further information based off of this colorized image, but to no avail. Save for one source that used this image ( in a different colorized manner, slightly less yellow and oozing with potential, that being this image by Argentinian Ufologist Dante Franch. See below.
https://preview.redd.it/tl0dx4lym60d1.png?width=280&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca523a7f18df130f09c9174e925d044a89852690
Finally, someone who might have a lead on this information! But no, once again this image is deceptively alluring as the contents of this book have absolutely nothing to do with the Sette report, but simply use its image to describe unsourced and unverified tales of the City of Erks (a wild dive on its own and may be deserving of its own post) and other entities that supposedly have a resemblance to this cover image.
Upon further searches I came across this archived link with additional images some with closer to truth color, including the aforementioned first colorized image here https://web.archive.org/web/20080312200229/https://www.anomalia.org/perspectivas/fotosets/campo_cielo.htm as well as the additional references. The author of this blog post is Mexican Ufologist Luis Ruiz Noguez, notable for his skepticism and thorough investigation relating to this material, so it was a no-brainier to look into his research regarding this seeing as he had previously mentioned it here on his blogpost. So where better to look than his book "Extraterrestres ante las camaras" Volume X dealing specifically with italian encounters and purported alien photographs. But again, despite his previous notation in this blog, the contents of these images specifically are nowhere to be seen or mentioned within this book.
Research stagnated for some time during the search process for the original source cited in Moreno Tambellinis book. I was able after five months (you have no idea how hard it was to find a copy) able to acquire a copy of this magazine and finally was able to determine that the previously assumed white coverall of this entities outfit has been a false notion.
The following text is a translation of the pages within this issue of march 7th 1988 Sette: Corriere della Cera . 9/10, the original scans, as well as a translated text document of these pages can be found in the sources listed below. Important note: although these images are primary focus of this article, it does meander into thoughts on Whitley Striebers book "Communion" (which will be a source of contention that will be covered later in this post). But the translated post here is the relevant text to these images.
"Just as we were editing a report on the UFO phenomenon that was supposed to appear on 7 at the same time as the television passage of Spielberg's film Close Encounters of the third kind, we came across a resounding surprise: the images published in these pages and on the cover of this issue. They were taken completely by chance, one summer evening in 1986, by a professor at the University of Pavia, above all suspicion and known for his balance, his intelligence and rationality, completely alien to the somewhat emphatic and vaguely bizarre world of the so-called "contactees": those people who say they have entered into a relationship with unknown entities from the cosmos."
"He is a completely normal person who has always been skeptical of the reports of unidentified flying objects and is now also a testimony, erroneous to the idea that his name is related to the disturbing figure captured by his camera. The university lecturer has agreed to give us what he considers to be evidence of his shocking experience in exchange for absolute confidentiality"
"What to make of these images? We can make a few assumptions.
A) The author of the photos is a mystrifier. It is unlikely: too much resistance has opposed the publication of his document (which he has yielded for free to 7). In addition, he wishes to remain anonymous. A behavior that is certainly not that of those who want to speculate on a scooop, true or presumed.
B) The author is the victim of a game. Someone made him take "fireflies for lanterns". A well-thought-out game, by true professionals. It is not unlikely, even if the professor is not a "contactee", one obsessed with extraterrestrials, that is, a man who could arouse "temptations" among those who know him.
C) The photos really document something alien. A mysterious otherness has been captured by the professor's camera, who was the first to be surprised by this tangible presence, imprinted on the film that is absolutely different from a hallucination. What to say? What are we to think of images that forcefully re-propose the problem (or the dream, or the myth, or the nightmare) of the existence of other beings, of other civilizations that populate galaxies or dimensions unknown to us? Science continues to question these facts, but an answer is still a long way off. All experiences at the "edge of reality" are embarrassing. The line that divides science and mystery is still vague. Prudence, in these cases, is a must. And the desire not to appear is widespread among the witnesses. The professor from Pavia, who chose restriction, has an illustrious precedent."
"These images, taken on a summer evening in 1986 by a professor at the University of Pavia, who asked to remain anonymous, are the subject of various hypotheses of interpretation in the text of the article. The reader is free to draw his own conclusions."
Here are the direct scans of this entity as they appear in the magazine, scanned directly out of a physical copy of this magazine. (do note although these images are uploaded in different order I believe they may be sorted as such, I make no claim to the accuracy of this in terms of chronological order, but which is most aesthetically appeasing.)

Now, while the article was very keen to post certain aspects of this, it was rather lacking, and it must be stated although the title of this issue, as well as the description in the article infer this is related to UFO's. There is no mention of an actual UFO or craft present within this encounter, or at the very least, this information was omitted from the article, and was potentially removed at the request of the professor in question, though that is speculation on my part.
The following sections will deal with the author of this previous issue, as well as the two follow-up articles and their individual authors.
There is more information present as the above text states, not from the previous issue, but from two separate follow-up articles that were saved and printed in the Italian Ufo magazine "UFO express no. 043." Link to the full untranslated issue here/UFO%20Express%20-%20No%20043.pdf). These separate addendums fully cover the images in question and are critical but not overly-so. The most important aspect to this is that the professor provided further information to Sette, primarily about what they were doing prior to this entities appearance, but also their means of photographic capture.

UFO: Is this being from another world? read the scroll on the cover of 7 (No. 9/10) that we republish on this page. Hundreds of phone calls and letters arrived at the editorial office, and they continue to arrive after Mino Damato in his TV program Alla ricerca dell'arca (Sunday, March 27, Rai 3 8:30 p.m.) dealt with the same images, depicting a hypothetical alien photographed by a professor at the University of Pavia one summer evening in 1986.
There are those who believe in this hypothetical alien and those who do not, but all of the readers who have phoned or written are bound to each other by the rejection of that question mark printed on the cover: each of them is persuaded to erase the hypothesis, to tear away the veil of the enigma. And they split into two equally intolerant parties, leaving no room for doubt. We have chosen two exemplary letters. The first letter comes from Brixen and is signed by Mr. Nicola De Paola (2 Clesia Street). He says “the alien is a tobogganist: typical are the tight suit the aerodynamic helmet, the face crushed by the transparent visor, the blurred colors and contours of the photos are due to the fact that they were taken from television, with the obj vo blurred or too close up and strange an alien with limbs, head, face and body identical to those of man; I too will be able to take photographs quite similar to those published; as a reader I feel mocked.”
Others have certainly seen in the hypothetical alien: a surgeon, a nurse, an ice skater, an Icelandic firefighter, a Norwegian cryologist (sic), a KGB spy, a hockey player with his head bandaged; in short, some man in overalls or uniforms. No one has identified in the figures, despite the width of the pelvis, a woman or an androgynous. The second letter comes from Ferrara and is signed by Mr. Giovanni Mantovani (via Luigi Borsari 51). Says; When I saw the photographs I immediately thought: but look, it looks like the E.T. seen by R.M on September 2, 1987 while he was fishing on the bank of the Canal Bianco (RO). He felt an intense tingling, turned around and saw a strange individual: dark complexion, 2 meters tall, hair that looked like plastic, wearing a luminescent blue jumpsuit. The apparition lasted a few seconds.R.M. felt a chill, a feeling that was renewed at the sight of your photos... Only one remark can be made to the professor of Pavia: that of not having given the readers further clarifications about the close approach of the third type...
Here are the further clarifications that the professor from Pavia has allowed us to give, although he is consumed by the fear of being uncovered and covered with ridicule. The photos were taken by a Nikon camera, with motor-drive, 55 mm lens. Micro, 3.5 aperture, shutter speed: 1/4 second Polachrome film, 40 Asa sensitivity. Shortly after the sun went down, the professor was completing some experiments on the optical perception of dogs (how does a dog see things in the world? Black and white? With what depth, in what perspective?). That alone is almost ridiculous. We were missing the hypothetical alien. A dog joke? Maybe. But the professor never solved the riddle. And dogs don't talk. ~ Paolo Pietroni

Your E.T. seems to me to be a feminine being...
Dear editor, I am writing to you in relation to the series of 5 photographs taken by a better identified professor of Pavia one summer evening in 1986 and which appeared in the supplement of the Corriere della Sera n. 9/10 Since I am not familiar with photographic technique, I have written down the shooting parameters communicated by you personally during Mino D'Amato's television program In Search of the Ark on March 27.
Correct me if I'm wrong: Nikon camera body with motor, 5.5 mm focal length lens, aperture dia 3.5, exposure time 1/15 of a second. Certainly, with this adjustment, every little movement of the camera or of the photographed subject causes a blurred or rather blurred photograph. Probably, this whole story of the photos arose from the need of the Rizzoli Group to launch on the market the Italian version of the best American seller Communion by Ted Jacob, which deals, coincidentally, with the subject of extraterrestrials. This colossal business is also sponsored by the production of the film, which has been "posted" while waiting for the possible buyers of such a profitable product to be sufficiently sensitized...
Having said this, I wish, through his kindness, to convey to the professor of Pavia my modest comments on his photos. Feminism aside, I confess that the first spontaneous observation I made on these photographs was to recognize without a shadow of a doubt a woman, or rather a female being; The conformation of the hips, the breasts, combined with the grace of the bowed pose with folded arms, unequivocally belonged to a woman. But let's get to the details.
The suit - It appears so tight that it shows every little part of the body so as to give the impression of a "second skin"; It has light blue-green bands (as shown in the photo on the right on page 74) that are more evident around the neck, on the shoulders and on the arms.
The hands - They appear covered by the sleeves and more elongated than ours (cover figure), dare I say w(bed.
The head - Although it is more mobile, it clearly shows these elements: oval face with a slightly flattened nose, microphone with a light-colored support arm placed at the height of the left ear (photo on the right, page 74)
The headset - It is completely different from any type currently built because it contains a transceiver module at the top for contact with some support organ (e.g. an operations center, or a cosmoplane, or another operator), similar to what happens in Italy when astronauts go out of their vehicle and maintain constant radio contact with the control center.
The transceiver part can be seen both in the cover photo and on page 74, left and right, and is indicated by the protuberance on the top of the skull.
This study was born well out of any venal or other interest, in fact I am not a ufologist, but a pilot in full flight activity and with command responsibilities; I have been a first-hand witness to the phenomenon commonly associated with the improper name of UFO
Sure of the need to deal with the subject with more compatible methodologies than those promulgated by scientists and ufologists, I dedicate myself to the enhancement of aeronautical contactism, intending with this new term to redefine the sightings of military and civil pilots, aeronautical technicians, engineers, etc. who through direct experience with the phenomenon have acquired the conviction that we are not alone Only those who have had a direct impact with the phenomenon (the contactee) can provide a plausible image of themselves... everything else... They are only lucubrations born from mindsets that are not up-to-date with the present sotric moment on the one hand, and with the characteristics of the phenomenon on the other.
{end of article caption}
I forwarded his observations to the professor in Pavia, author of the photos depicting the hypothetical alien. Thank you for your interesting analysis. You are free to believe it or not, but the Rizzoli Communion book had an absolutely random presence in our service: we liked the design of the cover; the portrait of that E.T. and we thought of enriching the illustrations of the service.
Roberto Doz (a fairly interesting individual on his own, air force colonel with his own UFO sighting) read more on that here
As for the author of the original article. Their name is Nullo Cantaroni, and may be more well known by his wife Bice Cairati( Sveva Casati Modigiani), Nullo Cantaroni had a fairly successful journalistic career, dealing primarily in medicine as co-authorized by fellow science journalist Severina Cantaroni. He eventually succumbed to Parkinson's disease. I make mention of these authors, Roberto Doz (who has a very good reason to be interested in the topic as he had his own experience). As well as the other two as these are not the ramblings of some crazy pumping out their own versions of weekly world news, but were and still are highly credible and respected peoples, whom by their own association are taking the flak for posting this material to begin with.
From here on out, this is going to be a further dive into the already presented material, some comparisons with other cases which have direct correlation with these images, as well as other information during my research that has not been touched on up until this point.
In the first follow-up article there is mention of a show "Alla Ricera dell'arca (In search of the ARK)". With he show discussing the images posted here. I was able to confirm that this episode does exist, with the covered material, and is within the RAI archives (Italian TV network/station). However, they would not lend the episode out to a non-Italian citizen, or someone associated with a University, or media conglomeration. I mention this as there may be more material covered in this episode that was not provided in the main article and its follow-ups. If there are any Italian citizens, or peoples reading this who have the appropriate accreditation to acquire a copy of this episode I would ask for your cooperation in attempting to do so. If someone has a copy of this simply recorded off of an old VHS I implore you to make that available to all.
Going back to the main article, the meandering to Communion is certainly off-putting, though I disagree with the previous mention that this was a hoax on the part of the publication to push Communion. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence after all (even though Carl Sagan never bothered with the evidence, side tangent: listen to J Allen Hynek talk about that here) But I believe these images were published in good faith on part of Nullo Cantaroni, his background and thorough career would make this unlikely.
So as it figures there are three scenarios here that describe this scenario (in no particular order of likelihood)
1) these images are hoaxed by the publication to push communion
2) these images are hoaxed by the supposed professor
3) these images are legitimate and provide evidence of a non-earth based entity.
Before I move on I'd like to mention that I did attempt to reach out to Corriere della Sera multiple times regarding this material but was never given a response.
To round this off the images themselves. Humanoid obviously, female-appearing, now I say appearing because assuming this really is some unexpected entity, there is no guarantee that the physiology of this figure accurately represents its determination, and although this entity appears to have what we'd consider to be skin, that may only be a covering to another form or may be some type of robotic synthetic life-form designed specifically to mimic human appearances. What may be most interesting or most alarming depending on your perspective is this entities face appears to change between shots, and yet seemingly keeps the same body proportions. If you are of the opinion this is some type of hoax you could state this is an obvious inconsistency between shots. On the other hand, that is an obvious conclusion to make and showing differentiating faces would be a rather odd choice on the part of a hoaxer. This again could be part of the photographing process, as there is motion blur between some of these photos and it simply gives an appearance that things are changing.
There are other features which must be touched upon, namely the clothing, but in one such photo, what appears to be some type of headgear wrapped around this entities face. To anyone with a passing knowledge of ufology and its associated lore would know, the favorite of any interstellar interloper is the tight formfitting bodysuit. Primarily described as blue, although other colors are often reported. But unlike most humanoid encounters described in the west, this entity seems to have a darker complexion about them. Now does that mean this does not fit in with established prior encounters? Not at all, for whatever reason the blonde-hair nordic is the most popular discussion topic when it comes to human-adjacent lifeforms, but in other places, and Italy especially, some of their most well know or most covered, feature entities with darker complexions. Case in point

This encounter in 1978 Italy with a dark-skinned entity in a shimmering scaled suit. Or this description of a dark skinned entity with a similar described blue suit reported in 1987
Location. Villamarzana, Rome, Italy Date: September 2 1987 Time: 1700
Renzo Munari was fishing on the Bianco Canal when he noticed a strange object flying at a moderated speed over the river, as the object disappeared from sight he felt a strange prickling sensation in his body, resembling electrical static. Turning around he saw a very tall human-like figure staring intently at him. The figure was at least 2 meters in height, with orange hair and dark skin. He wore a luminous blue colored tight fitting coverall. On the left side of his chest there was a square orange colored “tag.” During the encounter the witness felt a cool wave of air and light headed. The figure apparently disappeared into the brush.

There is also this report from 1989 Russia
Location. Salsk, Rostov region, Russia Date: August 13 1989 Time: 2300
Working at a cotton irrigation plant Vasiliy Ivanovich suddenly experienced total equipment failure without any apparent cause. While searching for the cause of the breakdown, the witness heard a loud voice, “He is searching for the cause”. Looking around he saw four humanoids standing close to him. One stood in the front, while the other three stood in the back. He described the humanoids as tall, with long dangling arms, with a large head, flattened on the top and wide at the temples. The humanoids are dark red or brown in color with large egg-shaped eyes and two holes instead of a nose. They have no lips, and thin strip instead of a mouth. They were wearing truncated shiny blue coveralls and footwear. The humanoid standing at the front of the others held a box in his hand and a soft pleasant voice seemed to emanate from the box. He held the box at stomach level. Ivanovich approached the humanoids and asked who they were; the reply was a question asking him if he wanted to go with them. At this point the witness saw a light at the edge of the nearby woods and a hovering object. The humanoids then floated slowly towards the craft and disappeared. Terrified the witness ran to the village to notify other witnesses but upon returning to the site the humanoids had already left.

As for the headgear, there is a report from 1995 Italy of an entity not resembling this one in this post, but wearing a similarly described headpiece.
Location: Ancona, Italy Date: February 3 1994, Time: 9:00am
Six witnesses, including a Mr. Giulo observed a strange humanoid wandering around some nearby rocks. The humanoid was described as about 1 meter and a half in height, wearing a tight fitting black coverall that covered his whole body including a pair of very long feet. The face was elongated with two huge round eyes, with round black pupils. It appeared to be wearing earphones with a small thin protruding antenna. It seemed to stagger slowly and after about 10 minutes it rose up slowly and vertically into the air, quickly disappearing from sight

There is also this case from Barisciano Italy 1978 in which an entity bearing a striking similar blue color to the outfit was seen, with an adorning white "cap" or hairpiece that resembled that of a cap. read the untranslated version of that encounter here/Notiziario%20UFO%20-%201984%2001-02%20-%20Vol%2018%20No%20102.pdf)

Finally, lets get back to the person allegedly behind this whole spiel, the Professor. A claim such as this, where an entity appears in ones presence without any known means is a stark claim all on its own, to provide photos of such an encounter is another thing all together, but being as its an anonymous person, how can we gleam any credibility out of this? To put it in other words, is there enough information provided within the original article as well as the follow-up articles to speculate on a potential identity to who this man could have been?
Emphatically yes, infact there is only one such individual who fits the criteria with the information provided, granted this information was given after the fact of the original articles publication. In the first article within UFO express that discusses this, we are told this person is running experiments relating to dogs (canine) eyesight, but the author was unsure whether or not this is a jest of some sort. I do not believe it is, in the secondary article it is again mentioned that this professor is working with canine eyesight, but in a caption on the second page it is emphasized this was "non-academic research". Now does that mean it was unrelated to their professional focus? No, it simply means this research was carried outside of official means. This leads me to who I believe the primary suspect is in terms of a potential identity, could there be other more accurate people? Perhaps. But this persons tenure and level of research within this subject and the timeframe of when they were working at the University of Pavia lines up perfectly with who this person could be. However, because of doxxing concerns, and that they initially requested complete anonymity from the publication I will not be directly naming their identity here. But I will heavily state that this person worked in the university of Pavia from 1985 in the zoology department and specifically with foxes and wolves. With this person having worked and published (into the present) works related to both of these fields. I have attempted to personally reach out to this professor both via email & telephone (their academic numbers, not personal) but have received no response. I would ask that if you do look into who this person is that you do not attempt to directly contact them as their lack of a response is response enough.
What was the encounter like? How long did it go on for? Was there a conversation or was this a quick in and out? These questions and more are not answered here, and perhaps never will be unless someone; the professor, an associate, or anyone else, comes forward with more details we are left wondering and wanting more. There is of course much to be said about these images and the potential for further investigations, including the peculiar hands this entity seems to posses that does have a passing resemblance to other cases, but lest this drag on to long I will leave it here and attempt to answer any questions that I may be capable of giving insight on.

See below.
https://preview.redd.it/tc06rvxum60d1.png?width=341&format=png&auto=webp&s=141ee2128cdcd0894f57f999876ff380a4def235
See below.
https://preview.redd.it/39i2rdvxm60d1.png?width=280&format=png&auto=webp&s=14bf476ca33164db334bc4b835a52b349d66990d

{end of article caption}

I have attempted to personally reach out to this professor both via email & telephone (their academic numbers, not personal) but have
received no response.
