2024.05.14 09:30 GolpoKori Need help with Battery for solar light. What did I do wrong?

I have this solar ligh that has this green 600mAh Ni-MH AA sized battery from China. I wasn't satisfied with the how long the light stayed on at night so I replaced the 600mAH batter with a Energizer Recharge Universal 1300 mAh NiMH AA. But unfortunately as soon as I installed the new Energizer battery the light blinked once and doe not work anyway more. Almost feels like and I am afraid that it has burnt the LED lights or the board connected to the lights. So my question is what went wrong? Both are Ni-MH 1.2v AA rechargeable batteries. Only difference is it's 600mAh vs. 1300 mAh. I am no expert in batteries or electronics, but from what I understand mAh relates to the capacity of the battery right?

2024.05.14 09:25 ElectricalChaos Missing underbody splash shield?

While poking around at the tail lights on my Maverick the other day, I couldn't help but notice that daylight was visible through the body behind my left tail light and a ton of dirt built up on the back of the light assembly, and no light when looking behind the right tail light and a lot less dirt. So that raised the question of was that area under the truck behind the left wheel ever covered by a splash shield, and if so what's the part number for that splash shield? I've been trying to find a diagram for the splash shields under the truck but haven't been able to come up with anything yet.

2024.05.14 09:23 MrKurthal When I was 19 I agreed to take "Phantom Drive." It's been 7 years, and I'm starting to remember my other life. [Part One]

You make pretty regrettable mistakes when you're desperate. Unfortunately, desperation would go on to cost me much more than I ever thought possible.
When I was 19 years old my financial situation wasn't great. In what was left of a crumbling home would be my recovering addict twin sister, and myself. The unfortunate state of our home was all from the even more unfortunate passing of our parents just five years prior. The two hadn't died tragically by any means, thankfully. No.. our parents died of old age, a consequence of having us kids later in life, while not being able to take on the financial burden that would be.. us.
My sister was making the early steps into the college lifestyle, doing her best to stay afloat with my support in funding. Money was tight for the two of us, but as she became more well off on her own, the more content she was with severing the last remaining tie to her childhood.. me.
I didn't hate Xel for her decision, if anything I understood her distancing from this life.. even if it saddened me. So then it was just me! Left to a house with a hole in the ceiling. Believe it or not, life wasn't all to bad even with how considerably down in the dumps it otherwise seemed to be.
However, content as I might have been, it's human nature to want more than you have. Can't say I was to greedy to look for some comfortability in my own home..
And so there it was! The glistening letters of ink outlining my salvation. An advertisement I'd found plastered onto the wall of the small booth I sat at while I waited for the bus to carry me off to work. "$5,000 to those compatible for a recent scientific breakthrough." Under any 'normal' circumstances I would consider this a scam. Hell, I was skeptical as I scanned the letters. Had I been told of this opportunity through spam call or text I would've glossed right over it just as anyone else would have.. but I was desperate.
I think it was the fact that someone, some real person had to have put this paper up on this wall gave me some glimmer of hope for a quick cash grab. Listed bellow the promise of money was details for a number to call regarding interest in the proposition.
I took the bait.. I saw the line, and like some idiot I clamped my teeth down just for that hook to sweep me away.
The corporation I'd come to know as, "The Arsaction," would see me just a week later. There was a brief consultation. They took my weight, age, all things I would've expected. It wasn't until they pulled records regarding my familial situation that I began to find this whole ordeal.. suspicious.
To 'begin' to find things suspicious only at this point is foolish, something I full understand, but I feel the need to reinforce the fact that I, Lex McKarthy, was desperate.
Everything by this point seemed pretty legit. The blood tests, the doctors office, the tests were.. reasonable. What was I to suspect? Everything was so vague, and truth be told I honestly didn't even expect anything to come of this visit. All the doctors, all the consultants seemed so disinterested in my features.. but when they realized I had no one, everything seemed to change.
Suddenly ears perked, suddenly doors closed, suddenly I was.. exactly what they were looking for. Every feature of myself was so painfully average. I was anyman, I was.. nothing. Despite their best efforts to be discreate, I knew it was only the fact that nobody would come looking for me that peaked their interests.
My stomach dropped when I was faced with a pen in my hand, trembling over that NDA. Every fiber of me cursed myself for never considering putting just a minute of research into 'The Arsaction,' however a video briefing would ease my nerves. Nobody knew who The Arsaction was. There was no public record of their existence, and that NDA would make sure that they continued to never exist.
I was stupid, I was irrational, I was in over my head! But I was desperate.. and I had nothing else.
"I have nothing else.. I have nothing else!"
It was a mantra I chanted as I was injected with that substance. The substance that turned my blood orange, made my skin freakishly thin.
And then I went home.
That was it. I was given my sum of money, and I was sent home. They told me I was, "good to go," and no number of questions would get a one of them to speak. I was only met with who I'd assume to be security guiding me out of the building.
Not a word more of what I'd just been injected with, only given instructions to not dwell on mirrors for too long. That was it, just some ominous instructions. So I left, as befuddled as I arrived. Relief washed over me as I made my way home. The anxiety I'd received from such an ominous buildup was all waved by the fact that I was somehow just.. good to go?
Relief quickly turned to panic as the inherent nature of it all being too good to be true set in. I expected to die, I expected some visit from government agents, I expected anything and everything, but as months turned to years.. Nothing ever came of it. No mirror ever caused me any harm, which was its own anxiety I'd have to overcome simply because of the absurd nature or such a request.
I hoped it was.. some prank. Everything was well... for a time. Until my sister called.
I just.. watched the phone ring. My sister, someone who I hadn't spoken to in upwards of 8 years was suddenly ringing me up. When I finally had answered, her question left me speechless.
"Hey Lex. would you happen to remember Mom's recipe for that egg toast? I think I left the cookbook at your place."
I felt my ears ring. The question was so.. casual. She entirely skipped the part where we discussed how she's been, how I'm doing. She spoke to me like we'd hung out only days ago.
At the time I'd thought I was just being dramatic, but looking back on it I can only justify my own hesitation to respond.
"W-..what?"
I stammered like a fool, but I was firm in my disbelief.
"Yeah, it should be in the book on the counter?"
I looked over my shoulder to my kitchen counter, past the toaster I never bought, and over to the book she spoke of. My jaw hung heavy, the whole interaction feeling like a dream.
With one hand I held the phone, and with the other I began to skim the pages of the book letting my eyes linger on mom's cinnamon roll recipe for a bit longer than intended.
"Lex.. are you ok?"
My sister inquired on the other end. I suddenly felt sick.. falling the the ground and laying on my back. This wasn't happening. It never did.
"Lex? Are you alright!?"
My sister repeated back more urgently, followed by her assurance that she would be over soon to check on him. But.. no company ever arrived. After hours the line just dropped, and I fell asleep there on that cold, wooden floor, paralyzed with a feeling I couldn't wrap my head around.
This never happened.
I never left.
I woke up in my bed in a cold sweat. I checked the time, greeted with a humble 4:37 in the morning. What troubled me was the fact that the date had been set back 7 years.
Of course it wasn't all so clear to me. After 7 long years I'd honestly forgotten about this day. This was the day that I'd set out for my graciously provided $5,000
7 years of my fucking life.. I would chalk it all up to that.. STUFF that they injected me with.. what was it? Phantom Drive? I could call it all some terrible drug trip, some construct defined by some insane psychedelic, but if that were the case, how was I here now? BEFORE I'd ever taken the drug?
This is a dream. I convinced myself I hadn't miraculously gone back in time, that 7 years of my life weren't a lie, but if that were the case, why was my blood still that damn orangy hue?
I'm losing sleep over this itch in my brain. It's like some taste of blood in my mouth has soured out the idea that letting my eyelids squeeze shut could further obscure my definite understanding of when I stood.
A day I remember so vividly at the ripe age of 14 years old, now 12 years ago, I awoke to the sweet smell of cinnamon rolls filling the air. All was right with the world, all as I climbed from the messy sheets in my dark room. It was abundantly clear that the bulb of the light beside my bed had burnt out over the course of the night, and the closed blinds didn't aid my vision as I stumbled around my room in search of my door.
An oddity presented itself in the fashion of aimless wondering. Where was the nob? One I'd become so accustomed to.. not needing to open? I'd never closed my door. Not the previous night, not ever. Not to the behest of my mother who'd always taken annoyance to closed doors, some trait of my grandmother's to which my mom had unfortunately inherited.
Breakfast took the form of two strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, and slightly burnt French-Toast. My previous assumption of cinnamon rolls unfortunately missed the mark, however I wouldn't object to this. I wish I could convince myself that I was wrong. Something so mundane, something so insignificant to the events in this story, however the first notable instance of a curse that I couldn't pinpoint
My mother had already seen herself off to work by this point, and so I was faced with the responsibilities of seeing myself out to the bus. Some routine I'd become far too used to; The minutes passed, leaving me with nothing to do but wait by the door for a buss that would never arrive.
If the door being shut and the cinnamon rolls being a different meal entirely had left me with a minor confusion, then suddenly being seated in the passenger seat of my mother's car listening to the nonchalant complaints from my twin sister about the nuances freshmen year math shot me into a disarray I couldn't possibly quantify.
I think one of the scariest things for me is the fact that I thought nothing of it. I hadn't freaked out. No scene was made to express what should have been one of the more disturbing instances of my childhood.
I could chalk up the mistaking breakfast for something else as me just misremembering events.. But something unmistakable is the fact that somehow my mom both never drove me to school, yet the fact that she.. always had.
If you're confused, I understand. I am too, because the contradicting nature of my memory is something that haunts me to no end.
Things were easier as a child. That's often the case, but ever sense I stopped aging, I've begun to notice the oddities presented by life that are.. inexplainable. I'm not even sure where to start with researching my predicament. Hell, this is reddit! If I couldn't find an answer here, I doubt there is an answer to be found at all.
The Mandela Effect is something that I feel needs no introduction. To those who don't know, the Mandela Effect, in brief, is a phenomenon that incurs when you "misremember" something. Think of a card, now imagine you saw that card as a child and it had a single heart drawn on it's center. Now, years later you are discussing this card with someone else just for them to tell you that the heart you swear, the heart you KNOW you saw.. was a diamond. You tell them they are wrong, you shake your head, chuckle nervously.. But then they present you with the card.
Your stomach drops. This can't be the card, there is no way! Only it is the card, and when you come to the realization that it is in fact the card you'd seen as a child, you are filled with a mix of confusion, fascination, and quite possibly denial.
Most often, the Mandela Effect is associated with silly things like books titles, and board game mascots, but my experience is far beyond such things. It's the only phenomenon I've found that seems even within the realm of explaining my predicament. Problem is, the more I think, the more is wrong.
All of me wishes it all ended with that one childhood experience! But it didn't. In fact, the more I consider my childhood, the more contradictions I notice. Part of me believes I could handle this if it was limited to my childhood, but it's not. This.. experience... It effects my every day!
I'm not losing my mind, I'm just picking up crumbs that I never dropped. Not.. losing my mind, just finding more "mind" than the inventory should account for.

2024.05.14 09:19 ishagshrek Gravel Bike Project Base

Im looking for suggestions help and tips regarding the following situation. I live in a large city in which I dont feel comfortable investing in and using an expensive bike (for me thats something i spent more than 500euro on) due to my last bike being stolen. Lately Ive had the urge to go out and bike alot and i only have a shitty gifted replacement bike which I couldnt use for long.
Ive been playing with the idea of building my own budget Gravel type bike out of an old racing bike or something so that i can commute in the city but also take it out into the countryside.

The components i place value on are the following:

i have pretty limited bike knowledge but im pretty handy and love these kinds of projects, so id use youtube and bike forums for anything i could do myself and bike shops for bigger things, but im mainly looking for something thats already rideable so i can tweak it to my preferences.
Does anybody have suggestins on which kinds of bikes to look for, what might be good for this kind of build. Or if theres any bikes out there that might already fit the description out of the box.
So far ive been looking at old austrian Puch bikes but their age and the gears might pose a problem regarding hills and changing the tires
Thanks in advance for any help or opinions you might be able to offer me!!

2024.05.14 09:08 lithiumcentury Catastrophic lighting system failure.

VW Golf 5 2009. Started last night and the dashboard bulb warning came on. Then the vehicle status info started cycling through 22 lights to check, indicators left right, brakes etc, then headlights, which was odd as it was night and I could see they were working. Over the next half hour I checked everything. All ok except indicators - both sides, fast flashing on the dashboard, wing mirror lights normal, but front and rear on solid, not flashing. Checked this morning and no warning lights, indicators working normally. Has anyone else had this or have any ideas?

Should we cop?
Found this barn find mr2 near my house thats been abandoned for 2 and a half years. My bro and i are contemplating rebuilding it over the summer. Wondering if these cars are hard to work on. The exhaust tip caught on fire and melted the rear bumper and tail light on one side of the car. Wondering if anyone knows a possible cause for this. Also can anyone tell if its a manual by the images of the inrerior?? Forgot to check. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

An artist in our theater wants to use his voice to control all the lights. That means that when he speaks, the light goes dark and when in silence the lights are full. I don't know exactly how he will do it but I am a bit concerned about the 2kw desistis - can the manage that kind of on/off behavior? The bulbs are super expensive so we cannot afford to blow many of them. Thanks for your help!

2024.05.14 08:53 Own_Slip1810 In the Beginning, There Were Golden Arches:

How to Cure a Religious Addiction:
Replace God with McDonalds French Fries:
1:1 In the beginning The McDonalds French Fries created the mustard and the ketchup.
1:2 And the ketchup was without form, and void; and darkness was upon
the face of the McDonalds Playplace. And the Spirit of The McDonalds French Fries moved upon the face of the soda dispenser.
1:3 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let there be light: and there was light.
1:4 And The McDonalds French Fries saw the light, that it was good: and The McDonalds French Fries divided the light
from the darkness.
1:5 And The McDonalds French Fries called the light the dayshift, and the darkness he called the nightshift.
And the evening and the morning were the first day of opening.
1:6 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the soda dispenser,
and let it divide the soda dispenser from the waters on the floor.
1:7 And The McDonalds French Fries made the firmament, and divided the waters which were
under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament with an out of order sign:
and it was so.
1:8 And The McDonalds French Fries called the firmament, "Cuidado, Piso Mojado", or something like that, for it was written in Spanish. And the evening and the
morning were the second shift dayshift crew changes.
1:9 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let the soda dispenser under the air conditioner vent gathered together
unto one place, and let the dry land appear after the floor is mopped up: and it was so.
1:10 And The McDonalds French Fries called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of
the waters with the mop called he a clean floor for customers: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:11 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let the menu bring forth burgers, the bun yielding
seed, and the fruit smoothie machine yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is
in itself, upon the menu: and it was so.
1:12 And the menu brought forth burgers, and bun yielding seed after
his kind, and the smoothie yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after
his kind: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third dayshift in the week.
1:14 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let there be lights in the soda dispenser near the air conditioning unit
to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, so that customers may see what type of drink they can choose, for days, and years to come:
1:15 And let them be for lights in
the firmament of the ceiling to give light upon the menu: and it was
so.
1:16 And The McDonalds French Fries made two great lights; the greater light to rule the menu,
and the lesser light to rule the dining area: he made the Playplace lit up also.
1:17 And The McDonalds French Fries set them in the firmament of the ceiling to give light
upon the restaurant,
1:18 And to rule over the dayshift and over the nightshift, and
to divide the light from the darkness: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth shift of the week.
1:20 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let the menu bring forth abundantly the moving
creature that hath life, yea, the filet of fish, and chicken nuggets that may not fly above the earth in the
open firmament of the restaurant, as the chicken hath been made to be cooked.
1:21 And The McDonalds French Fries created great whales, fat people coming in from every corner, and every living creature that
moveth began to move no longer. For the menu hath brought forth abundantly, after their kind, every nugget after his kind: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:22 And The McDonalds French Fries blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill
the bellies of the customers, and let foul stenches fill the earth.
1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
1:24 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let Ronald McDonald bring forth the advertisements after
his kind, to feed the cattle, spawning creeping Grimace, and many beasts of the restaurant after his
kind: and it was so.
1:25 And The McDonalds French Fries made the beast of the advertisements after his kind, and cattle customers
after their kind, and every thing that creepeth within the restaurant after
his kind: and The McDonalds French Fries saw that it was good.
1:26 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, fat and happy:
and let them have dominion over the Filet of fish, and over the chicken nugget of the fowl, and over the beef, and over all the restaurant, and over
every Grimace that creepeth within the restaurant.
1:27 So The McDonalds French Fries created man in his own image, in the image of The McDonalds French Fries created
he him; fat and happy, created he them.
1:28 And The McDonalds French Fries blessed them, and The McDonalds French Fries said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion
over the Filet of Fish, and over the chicken nuggets, and over every
living thing that moveth within the restaurant under the floorboards fried in the grease pit on accident.
1:29 And The McDonalds French Fries said, Behold, I have given you every bun bearing seed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every smoothie, in the which is the fruit yielding sweetness; to you it shall be served with beef.
1:30 And to every mooing cow, and to every chicken,
and to every thing that creepeth beneath the floorboards that accidentally falls in the grease pit, wherein there is
life, I have given thee the power to eat thereof and partake.
1:31 And The McDonalds French Fries saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was
very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth shift of the month.

Best Duvet Singapore: Enhance Your Sleep with the Perfect Choice
Are you looking to upgrade your sleep experience? A high-quality duvet is one of the best investments you can make for a good night's rest. In Singapore, where the climate can vary, finding the best duvet tailored to your needs is crucial for achieving optimal comfort. From materials to fill power, there are various factors to consider when selecting the perfect duvet for your sleep sanctuary.

Introduction

Duvets are quilted blankets filled with down, feathers, or synthetic fibers, encased in a fabric shell. They are designed to provide warmth and comfort while sleeping. Unlike traditional blankets, duvets are often used with a removable cover, making them easy to clean and maintain.

Importance of Choosing the Right Duvet

https://preview.redd.it/xjrns505ac0d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=446b5d6801793af6e775a650355f8b3ccce455c4
Selecting the right duvet can significantly impact your sleep quality. A duvet that is too heavy or too light can disrupt your sleep patterns and leave you feeling uncomfortable throughout the night. Additionally, a high-quality duvet can regulate your body temperature, ensuring you stay cozy without overheating.

Factors to Consider When Choosing the Best Duvet

Material

The material of the duvet plays a significant role in its comfort and durability. Common materials include cotton, silk, wool, down, and synthetic fibers. Each material offers unique benefits, so it's essential to consider your preferences and needs.

Fill Power

Fill power refers to the loftiness and insulating ability of the duvet's filling. A higher fill power indicates better insulation and fluffiness. Down duvets typically have higher fill power ratings, providing superior warmth without adding weight.

Thread Count

Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric. A higher thread count often results in a softer and more luxurious feel. However, it's essential to balance thread count with breathability, especially in Singapore's humid climate.

Size

Choosing the right size duvet is crucial for ensuring a proper fit on your bed. Consider the dimensions of your mattress and any overhang you prefer. Standard sizes include twin, queen, and king, but custom sizes are also available.

Top Features to Look for in a Duvet

Breathability

A breathable duvet allows air to circulate freely, preventing overheating and ensuring a comfortable sleep temperature. Look for duvets with natural materials like cotton or silk, which offer excellent breathability.

Allergen Resistance

If you suffer from allergies, opt for a duvet with hypoallergenic properties. Many duvets are treated to resist dust mites, mold, and mildew, providing a healthier sleep environment for allergy sufferers.

Durability

Invest in a duvet that is built to last. Quality construction and materials can ensure your duvet maintains its loft and comfort for years to come, saving you money in the long run.

Tips for Maintaining Your Duvet

To prolong the life of your duvet and maintain its quality, follow these simple tips:
  • Use a duvet cover to protect against stains and spills.
  • Fluff your duvet regularly to maintain its loftiness.
  • Air out your duvet occasionally to prevent moisture buildup.
  • Follow the manufacturer's care instructions for washing and drying.

Conclusion

Choosing the best duvet in Singapore is a personal decision based on your preferences and needs. By considering factors such as material, fill power, and size, you can find the perfect duvet to enhance your sleep experience. Invest in quality craftsmanship and durability to ensure your duvet provides comfort and warmth for years to come.

FAQs

How often should I replace my duvet?

It's recommended to replace your duvet every 5–10 years, depending on its quality and condition.

Can I use a duvet without a cover?

While it's possible to use a duvet without a cover, it's not recommended as it can lead to stains and damage to the duvet.

Are down duvets suitable for hot climates like Singapore?

Yes, down duvets can be suitable for hot climates if they are lightweight and breathable.

How do I know if I'm allergic to my duvet?

Common signs of duvet allergies include sneezing, itching, and congestion. If you suspect an allergy, consult with an allergist for testing and recommendations.

Can I wash my duvet at home, or do I need to dry-clean it?

Many duvets can be washed at home, but it's essential to check the care instructions on the label. Some duvets may require dry cleaning to maintain their quality.

Replacement for this plastic slide-on piece on the headlight?
Got rear-ended and pushed into the car in front. Aside from bumper damage I noticed that one headlight is pointed downward because this slide on plastic piece (circled in red) has popped off and I can’t find it.
Any advice on where to find a replacement so I can re-align the light? Haven’t found them on Fcpeuro and bimmerparts yet.

2024.05.14 08:38 nord598 2012 Volvo S80 Radiator out of stock with no ETA

I have a 2012 Volvo S80 with 93K miles (VIN YV1940AS1C1159906) that has a developed a leak in the lower part of the radiator. I started researching getting a replacement and found out the supplier of Volvo part #31368299 stopped making the radiator. This is Volvo's premair radiator that has a sensor built in to detect the coolent temperature.
There are radiators in stock that fit my S80, but don't have a sensor, so the check engine light would be on permanently.
There is a US nationwide shortage of this part. I have called 8 different dealers/suppliers and they all report that this part is on back order and Volvo has no ETA on when this will be back in stock.
Reached out to my local radiator repair to see if they could re-core the radiator, but due the plastic perimeter this is not an option.
I have opened a customer support case with Volvo North America and received the statement that Volvo is only required to keep parts in stock for 10 years. Called back today and was informed the only path for raising a priority on this is to reply to the email thread.
So I have a Volvo that I cannot drive or sell. What options do I have? Any ideas on a work around? This is my 3rd Volvo and probably my last. Thanks for any suggestions.

2024.05.14 08:35 baikaldeep Islands (short story)

Nothing special, feel free to leave feedback.

A year before I left Boston, we went for dinner one night. It was after ultimate frisbee, and Boloco was the only place open. We were still riding high from the last time, when we'd gotten everyone to swim across the Charles. Some kids from MIT had been eating grapes as they walked across the bridge, and I'd convinced them to throw some to me to try to catch in my mouth. They missed a few times before throwing down the ziplock bag, and I was able to throw one to you, which you caught.
So this time, I'd joked we should climb the fence to the reservoir and see if we could eat burritos on our backs as we swam across, like otters. You liked something I'd said, so instead of rushing it with Boloco, we wandered the grocery aisles to savor the planning. In the end, you'd proposed making a little boat by turning the frisbee upside down and duct taping two water bottles beneath as pontoons. "We could make smores," you said leaning toward me. We bought a tiki torch that we sat in the middle and then piled the rest of the frisbee with marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate squares from Hershey bars. Before we left, you ran back to your car to get a sharpie. You wrote "S.S. More" on the side of one water bottle. I posed for a photo.
The platter was awkward, and we dropped a couple pieces of chocolate in the woods. But we got through the fence easily. We broke sticks for our marshmallows and you lit the torch with a lighter from your car. I remember there were these little fish that would nibble at our toes in the shallows. It was unpleasant, but it didn't quite hurt, more ticklish. I was a more confident swimmer, so I pulled the jump rope, swimming on my back, the other hand balancing my marshmallow over the carcinogenic flame.
At some point out on the water, the wind picked up and blew out the torch. We treaded water several minutes as you tried to get the lighter, wet from where you'd stuffed it into your underwear, to work. At the other side of the reservoir, we stood and those little fish nibbled at us, and you shook out the lighter hard, and lit the torch. We ate as much as we pleased, laughing the whole way back. You took a turn with the jump rope.
That summer we drove up and stayed at the cabin your great uncle owned in Maine. The cabin itself was a converted boat, where your uncle, a local politician from Florida, spent his summers with his obese wife. They were the legal guardians of your cousin, whose father disappeared again after relapsing. It was early autumn, and you'd said it was too cold to swim. But we'd go down and jump in the water with your aunt and uncle, who were convinced the cold was soothing to your aunt's gout. I taught the little boy to skip rocks, but I got him in trouble by talking in character as Scarlet O'Hara during a game of Clue, which he wouldn't stop imitating for the rest of the afternoon. His grandfather sent him outside until he stopped. When you and I went to look for him, he was trying to split logs with an axe in his flip flops. We told him not to do that because he could lose his toes, and I told him that voices were only funny for a short time.
You and I didn't sleep in the old boat cabin, which was expectedly small. Instead, we slept in an L in a 12'x12' shed with a light bulb, which hung on an extension cord from a truss. We talked until 3am or 4am, about everything, work, girls, childhood, and the things that we'd done that had finally dragged us into sobriety.
The next morning, I'd said I wanted to see if I could swim across Lewis Cove and back. As soon as I said it, you were in. You were so lean from running all the time, and before we even got past the boats and the lobster traps, you were struggling from the cold. I'd suggested going back or even climbing out on one of the docks holding traps, but you refused. In the middle, you were worried about making it across at all. I figured I could carry you, but without a float, I didn't think I could carry you very far. When we finally got to where we could stand, you got out and tried to warm up. I stayed in the water, swimming back out a little because for some reason I thought a lobster might pinch me. Eventually, I realized how violently you were shivering. So I got out too, and we decided to go find the road and try to hitchhike back.
It turned out to be one of the islands scattered along the coast of Maine. Luckily, the restaurant, the only thing on the island, hadn't yet closed for the year. The staff, who lived on the island in warm months, were shocked to see us on their day off. You asked if they were planning to take their boat across the water anytime soon. "If you're already making the trip, maybe we could carpool?" you suggested. Two of them gave us a lift in a little boat, making thinly veiled comments about the stupidity of summer people most of the way.
The next day, you slept for hours with a fever. Your aunt was angry that I'd been a bad influence. I went back out and tried to complete the round trip swim. I did it carefully, keeping my head out of the water most of the time and swimming a modified breaststroke. I thought maybe a fast pace would help keep my body temperature up. On the other side, I kicked off the rocks and swam back, and it was cold, but I was fine. Back at the cabin, you were awake and gave me a hug when I came in. We looked up the swimming route on your phone and saw that it was indeed an island, a mile and change round trip. That night we bought a few lobsters from some place along the road, which your uncle boiled in seawater.
A few weeks later, you'd tried to set me up with a girl you knew. You showed me a photo of her, a knockout blonde from Florida. You said you'd been telling her all about me and had sent her my website, and that she wanted to visit Boston and meet me. You told me what a good person she was. "She does little things you'd do, like whenever she has spare change, she goes and puts it in the coin return of vending machines so that it'll make someone's day." I asked why you weren't dating her, but you brushed me off. We started arguing somehow at Bukowski's, some comment I'd made because you'd said she routinely got favors from an infatuated ex. I'd told you it sounded like trouble, and that remembering that beauty is fleeting was why I hadn't slept my way through the ultimate frisbee club yet. We ended up finishing our White Trash Cheese Steaks in silence.
I left Boston with some girl the following summer. It fizzled in weeks, but it was years later that I realized how much you loved me. My ex-wife had been organizing photos, and had come across the picture you took of me holding the frisbee boat. She was always jealous of other women, and she asked who I was smiling at in the photo. "He was my friend."

**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
Within the next three weeks.
**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**
Everything but the OS. Tower, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, CPU, CPU Cooler, GPU, Motherboard, RAM, Storage and PSU.
**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**
New Zealand (Wellington) - though I can buy online from Amazon or NewEgg.
**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**
No parts being reused (first build). I do have a monitor that I will keep for a second screen.
**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**
I don't expect to, but perhaps down the line.
**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
SSD: Minimum 1TB, ideally 2TB or more Monitor: 1440p, minimum 120Hz (not that I expect to get this for resource-intensive games) Chipset: AM5
**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
No particular size preferences, but maybe just a preference for mid-tower? I plan on having the PC be under my desk so not particularly fussy on design, but ideally a black colour theme.
**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**
No.
**Extra info or particulars:**
I'd like to keep future upgradeability in mind - I'd rather not have to replace several components to upgrade later.

2024.05.14 08:17 One-Environment3309 Buddhism view on Semen Retention aka Celibacy ! In short, "Emptiness"

Desire is no problem. Craving -- i.e., when desire becomes grasping -- is a problem.
And according to the guiding precepts, there is no proscription against sexual activity in itself (except for monastics). It's misuse of sex that is seen as unwholesome.

You need to understand that the entire Path of Buddhism is predicated on waking up from dream-like delusion of self, and selves, and subject (I, my, me) versus object (the presumed external world which the self is presumably 'missing' and needing, or at the mercy of). The point of mental discipline is to stop making an illusory world out of illusory concepts -- our relation to which causes all suffering -- and instead to rest in reality.
This is the basis of all Buddhist ethics. There is no ethical decree given from above by an authority figure; it is all functional, all in service of waking up and dispelling suffering.

So the tainted mental activity that produces the illusion of a 'me' and an external world inevitably leads to craving, grasping, and suffering, like a wheel that turns around and around endlessly.
Craving that persists with regard to a particular object or theme is known as lust. There are many remedies for lust.
First off all, just following the Path in a good course of training will settle the mind and even the energy. Much of our personal suffering and many of our dysfunctional tendencies arise because our energy (in ancient terms named 'inner winds') is inflamed and irregular. A balanced lifestyle and good training in meditation, ethical behavior, and wisdom smooth out the practitioner's energy and establish calmness and stability. The upshot is that one doesn't crave the things one craved before, and turns instead toward noble aims and aspirations, the causes of happiness.
Śamatha (acquiescence/calmness/concentration) meditation is especially regarded as a cure for all kinds of sensual attachment. This is because it diminishes the mental activity that creates the illusion of subject-object separation and its accompanying habitual patterns of attachment. When the mind settles, there is less 'going out' toward supposed external objects.
There are also specific remedies for sexual attachment, including contemplating the constituent parts of a body and/or the many unpleasant aspects of a body -- blood, pus, oil, urine, feces, odor, shedding skin, and so on. Related contemplations consider aging and decay.
These practices are effective because typically the lustful person is fixating on a very limited and idealized version of the supposedly desirable person: they see only momentary physical beauty or preferentially selected qualities, not the whole reality. The contemplations establish what a body really is (which is far from gloriously pleasant). And one can imagine that seeing the entire life span of the object of desire -- seeing hehim as germ cells, a fetus, an infant, a toddler, a child, and adolescent, an adult, an elderly person, a withered aged dying person, a heap of dust and bones -- can dispel the illusion of perfect desirability that characterizes lust.
[Additional note: there's a text in which the Buddha helps Ananda overcome fixation on a woman by bestowing such a vision upon him, of the woman in time-lapse, quickly moving through all stages of her life. Perhaps our scriptural experts will provide a citation here.]
Some of the most important and influential means of bringing the mind under control (not rigid control, but stability and functionality) have to do with lifestyle. There are many teachings that don't appear in books, and which you get through human contact and actually living the lifestyle along with others.
Regulating diet, sleep, physical movement and rest account for possibly half or more of the spiritual accomplishments and personal transformations sought by practitioners. If you just eat right, your efforts are already tremendously supported.
Avoiding overly dulling or stimulating foods (like too much meat & dairy, and certainly sugars, oily foods, processed foods, overly spicy foods), avoiding overeating, and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and recreational drugs go a long way to settling the fiery, eruptive energy that easily becomes sexual craving.
Certain specific foods are discouraged or, within specific practices, prohibited because they directly block the practice. Some of these are strongly aphrodisiac foods, others are known to block the energy flow being cultivated.
Sleeping the right amount at the right time evens, calms, and uplifts the energy. Best is to be asleep at least an hour before midnight (by the sun, not by the clock which can change with daylight savings time), and to wake and rise before the first light of dawn. No surprise: this follows the schedule of temples and practice centers. And having too little sleep, though not ideal, is better for the subtle energy than too much sleep. Having too little sleep harms the body, but having too much sleep harms the energy and spirit.
Physical movement is also extremely important for health at all levels, and for spiritual practice. Physical practice is another aspect of authentic Buddhism that is not (and perhaps cannot be) conveyed in books, blogs, and videos; but it's incredibly effective in bringing forth a natural, rooted stability of mind. Prostrations practice, vigorous physical work, and whole-body-and-breath physical activities and exercise are effective upon sexual craving on a number of fronts (grounding, energy flow, outlet, contentment), but they also greatly support meditation and mental training.
And finally (but far from the last benefit available), the influence of a teacher and practice community can't be overstated. Being in the presence of those who maintain the true view helps your own wavering, wandering, attaching mind come under control and move toward the true view itself. Being with people who are clear about their values, and whose discipline arises naturally from wisdom (rather than being imposed tyrannical by an ideology), helps one learn how to become clear and disciplined.
To a great extent, cravings and addictions are cured by replacing them with wholesome and more satisfying and fulfilling aspirations and behaviors, and by replacing the triggering environment with a more healthy one.
Addiction is not always best addressed by wrestling with it directly, as that can become another trigger, causing recurrent cycles of repression and acting out. Objectification is a root problem; so be careful of making a personal issue into an object of fixation. A good course of training will help teach you where to place your attention and effort. It's like the story of the two wolves: the one that grows is the one you feed (with your attention). "You become that which you place before you."
We don't learn how to live by amassing concepts; we learn how to live by being in the presence of true humans.
And if we establish the karmic causes for being in the presence of an enlightened teacher, the influence on our life is unimaginably beneficial.

2024.05.14 08:12 Luffy12hawk My Story: The Words of God

*The dawn appears over a vast verdant forest of towering redwoods as we transition down to a decrepit log cabin*
*The sounds of nature fills the atmosphere as birds sing their graceful love songs, flying elegantly overhead*
*at the entrance of the cabin we hear a slight creak as the door opens begrudgingly*
*A man walks out; with hair akin to a rat’s nest, he was as ebony as the cabin he came from. He appeared with a disheveled lightly melancholic grimace, as he trudged out each step echoing a deep longing…*
*As he shuffled, he began to reach his arms outward to stretch and take a deep breath soaking up the bright morning radiance as to ask it dearly to impart its energy upon him*
*He exhaled deeply, feeling new and energized his breath turning to an opaque mist on the cold air*
*He’d begin to walk with purpose, marching deeper into the forest hearing its pleasant ambience. Shining clear rainbow dew drops falling to lush forest floor, Monkeys letting off distant playful cries these sounds of had oddly enough become monotonous within his tenure*
*This man had made it to his goal an azure spring of shimmering water at the base of a waterfall the dull roar of the cascading waters calmed him further*
*He waltzed towards the water’s edge, gazing upon his reflection, appearing to lost in thought as if to wonder if that was actually him*
*After many years determination left his eyes. Emotions filled his face shame, fear, regret, and yet most of all despair*
*As he kneeled at the tranquil spring’s foot he cupped water within his hands and began to drink with great fervor as the water glided down his chin drenching his ragged clothes*
*After he drank his fill he began to undress.
His tattered wares were gently laid upon the soft moist dirt*
With sunlight shining down upon his toned body of the finest onyx. He entered the cold shallow water, glimmering in the sun.
A large flat pink band adored his waist and stomach and soon expanded and unfurled into a long thick tail the color of a brilliant rosé, it waved side to side helping him move through the clear serene waters of the spring*
*Within the water he felt a deep peace he hadn’t felt in quite a while. He'd been on edge ever since last afternoon. The man began to reminisce…*
*A distant dull glimmer manifested offshore and then suddenly roared to life with an intense effulgence! It had utterly… consumed… the sky… it shook the once stalwart earth beneath his feet and upset the tranquil sea. The intense shockwave brought him to his knees as if his very soul were hit!
*He'd worried if those people might have finally found him…*

2024.05.14 08:10 SolarSolutionCompany What Is The Power Output Of A Solar Panel

Solar panels are marvels of modern engineering, silently transforming sunlight into usable electricity. But what exactly is the power output of a solar panel? How much energy can you realistically expect from these sleek, sun-soaking rectangles?
This comprehensive guide will demystify solar panel power output, explaining the key concepts, influencing factors, and how it translates to meeting your energy demands.

Watts and Kilowatts: The Language of Solar Power

Like light bulbs, solar panels are rated in watts (W). This measurement indicates their maximum power production under ideal conditions, known as peak sun.

Standard Solar Panel Wattage

Modern residential solar panelstypically range from 250 to 450 watts per panel. This means a single panel could power several small appliances or a significant portion of a larger one. However, most homes need multiple panels to cover their entire energy needs.

Factors Affecting Solar Panel Output

The power output of a solar panel isn't static; it's influenced by several factors:

From Watts to Kilowatt-Hours: Your Solar Energy Production

The amount of electricity your solar panels generate over time is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). This is the unit you see on your electricity bill.
To estimate your annual production, consider:

  1. Your System Size: The total wattage of all your panels combined (e.g., a 6 kW system has 6,000 watts).
  2. Peak Sun Hours: The average daily hours of direct sunlight in your location.
  3. Panel Efficiency: This will vary based on the specific model.
A solar professional can provide a more accurate estimate tailored to your location and system.

Matching Output to Your Needs

The goal is to match your solar panel system's output to your home's energy consumption. Factors to consider include:
