Deciding On Reserves

2024.05.14 15:20 Hi_Im_Just_Joe_King Deciding On Reserves

TLDR: Due to multiple extenuating circumstances in my life as of recent, it seems as though joining a branch's reserves may be in my best interest to forward my careelife. What advice would you give an aspiring cyber-sec career-man?
I'm a 21 year old man who recently acquired his Associate's Degree. Due to extensive childhood trauma and medical concerns my plans for life have taken a hard left turn; I had left Highschool due to hospitalization and my mental health, acquired my G.E.D. after my original-projected graduation date, and took a gap year to try to 'find myself' and clear my head out on my own. After this gap, for the last 2 years, I've pursued my Associate's Degree, and recently graduated with a 3.96 GPA.
I love computer science, and would love to pursue a career in Cyber Security, but feel as though there could be a different route for me than the 'usual'. By this point I've missed the cut-off for college applications after this summer, but I've recently been considering the idea of joining the reserves (either Navy or Air Force) to reach my goals.
The way I see it, with how oversaturated my desired field is, thousands today have the same credentials, "great GPA, bachelor's in CS, light field experience," but still these people struggle to find positions due to the fact that all applications are near-identical (I have friends in this exact position). Through the reserves, though, as I understand it, I would be able to acquire both training and funding for various CS certifications like Net+, Sec+, etc. while also having chosen a CS-oriented military position. Ontop of the obvious military benefits and experience, this would assuredly make all future resumés stand out.
I have no interest in active duty or deployment, rather the knowledge there is to be gained, both within and beyond CS that military training offers. My question, I guess, is what advice would those of you 'in the know' give to someone in my situation? Is it realistic to not expect deployment? Between the Navy and Airforce, which branch offers the best experience and resources for someone looking into my career path? Are my expectations even realistic?
How does the certification acquisition process work? Is prep and testing done in-house or are tests simply funded? Would I need to choose a specific "reserve job' to qualify for these certifications?
I'm open to ALL feedback.

2024.05.14 15:19 emilymh99 Help..first pregnancy

On April 17th I took a pregnancy test which cane back positive (this was a Wednesday), the weekend before I took one it came back negative. For the first 2ish weeks my breasts and nipples were very tender and swollen, then I started spotting brown. The breast tenderness went away upon the beginning of spotting. I had a pelvic exam this past Friday (5/10) and my cervix appeared closed. My original 8 weeks appointment was supposed to be 5/15 but I went yesterday 5/13 instead. On the scan all that was shown was a 7.5mm sac with a yolk, no embryo and because of the spotting the doctor told me either it’s too early or theres a miscarriage. My HCG level was 3995 and they dated me at 5 weeks 4 days. I haven’t had enough spotting for a pad or any bright red but this is day number 9 of spotting and my pregnancy symptoms are pretty much gone (tiredness and tender breasts). Does anyone have any similar experiences and it turned out positive…? I have my next scan June 5th and Im a nervous wreck.

I'm going to get tested myself tomorrow. Of course, the test will probably come back positive. I'm trying to reassure myself that our sex lasted 3 minutes, but we all realize that it doesn't really matter. People who have been diagnosed. How do you live with it? How does life change after you've been diagnosed? Were you able to find love after that, even with non-diagnosed people, live a normal life? I really need your support

2024.05.14 15:16 RA_Throwaway5789 Ate two mini poppyseed muffins yesterday. Should I be worried?

Without thinking, I ate two mini poppyseed muffins at breakfast yesterday. I am currently on probation for a misdemeanor DUI and get drug tested 2x/month. Now I'm wondering if I should be worried about my next test or if I should even mention this at the testing site. Does eating poppyseeds actually lead to a false positive for codeine, or is this just a myth?

Beta test questions
I’ve had the weird nose leaking a handful of times over the past few years and have had it happen a few times already this year. I was able to collect some in a sterile container over the weekend and dropped off for testing yesterday. I do have a sinus infection currently. How long did it take for most to get results? I’ve heard there are high false negatives? If it is positive, how do they even find where the leak is coming from when it’s so intermittent?

2024.05.14 15:05 ShotDonut2844 First period after tfmr? What was it like for you?

Hi… how is the first period after tfmr (L&D then D&E) supposed to be like? (Tfmr’ed at 23+ weeks)
It’s been 28 days since tfmr and after more than a week of no spotting, I suddenly start bleeding again today… not a huge amount (or revenge period) that everyone’s talking about…but with strange stringy clots and enough to have to put on a pad. Sorry for the tmi.
Does it get heavier in the next few days?
Kinda worried it’s not a period and some strange bleed instead since. Still tested a very faint positive on a first response early test kit a week ago.. which would mean I ovulated while still hcg positive, if this is my first period? 🫠
Very confused soul here. OB only gave the go ahead to try after the first period hence the question… Can anyone kindly share what their first period was like after tfmr? 🙏🏻

2024.05.14 15:04 OtherTwo4686 Sarcoidosis / Histoplasmosis

Hello, December 2023!8 had influenza A. It was a mild flu it really was not that bad. Two days after getting over the flu my vision blurred in bother eyes causing “double vision” and tingling started in my right leg. The tingle lasted for weeks and I went to the hospital where they tested for MS and other neurological issues. All seemingly were fine and they had no explanation as to what happened (made me feel crazy). 3 days after discharge I starting having left side chest pains, cough, and shortness of breath. I pushed it off a couple weeks and it eventually worsened. I made multiple trips to hospitals where they kept saying it was anxiety because of my age (23) and lack of further treating. Finally an ER doctor after multiple visits did a chest CT and confirmed pulmonary nodules with lympenopathy and cavitations. They kept me for a week flushing antibiotics through me and performed a bronchoscopy; both of which were unsuccessful. In a histoplasmosis urine antigen they detected a “positive” result. The normal values are 2.00 ng/ml or less and mine was 3.00 ng/ml; a slight questionable positive. Fast forward two months and I’ve been in treatment for histoplasmosis. However, my chest pain really has not subsided and I’ve developed excruciating shouldeback pain. My vision still has yet to return to normal. I have also developed extreme fatigue through most days. I’ve had multiple echos and EKG, cardiac work to rule out heart issues; waiting on cardiac MRI. My pulmonologist and infectious doctor have refused to refer me to rheumatologist and look further as I’m concerned this is actually sarcoidosis or combo of two. Also in between multiple CT scans of chest the nodules shrunk prior to receiving treatment for histoplasmosis! A lot of symptoms aren’t adding up and would like some opinions. Thanks

2024.05.14 15:04 Important-Box-8316 My 4 year journey trading Qullamaggie's breakout setup

My 4 year journey trading Qullamaggie's breakout setup
Hello,

I thought I would share the journey I have taken in following Qullamaggie, and the various paths I have explored. The sole purpose is to offer some suggestions which I hope you find useful, and to highlight things which I have discovered along the way that really helped me out.
This is simply a selection of things I have discovered and advise which I would have benefited from when I first started out. I hope you find it helpful.

My background:
Background in finance, started my own trading firm which I sold and now I trade for myself. I wish I had discovered Qullamaggie sooner!

The Start:
My journey into this strategy started 4 years and as instructed by Qullamaggie, I did nothing but look at charts. I spent well over 1,000 hours studying charts and just focusing on the breakout chart pattern. This is the only thing people new to this strategy should be doing. Do not open any broker accounts or place a single trade until you have completed this task first.
Why?
1 – It is hard work, which is what it takes to be successful.
2 – It is boring at times. much like trading. There will be long periods in trading where there is nothing to do.
3 – Through this process you will learn if you are committed and will succeed, or not, without placing a single trade or risking any of your own money. Do not risk your own money until you have done this. It is hard to earn money in this world, look after it and look after yourself in the process.
Please note – the art of being successful is finding a strategy that fits your personality and lifestyle. Some will fail trading breakouts but succeed at day trading, some will fail at day trading but succeed with Fair Value Gaps (ICT), or algos, or scalping etc. You get the idea. There are hundreds of different trading styles to explore.
Success is a combination of finding what style strategy works best for the type of person you are. So do not be disheartened – keep exploring, but do so without risking any money whilst you learn.
I watched all of Qullamaggie’s live Twitch streams, they were great to experience. I have also watched all of his YouTube content too, learning as much as I could along the way.
I use OneNote because it was included in the MS Office bundle. I started with TradingView, and still use it to this day, and slowly started building up my own database. You learn so much from doing this, and because you make each discovery yourself, it stays with you and automatically becomes part of your trading thought process.
When trading, be it paper trading as part of your back test, or live trading, log as much information as you can.
-What % move up did the stock make before consolidating
-How long did it consolidate for
-What % move did the stock make once it broke out
-Did it continue moving up after the position was closed
-Were the EPS and Revenues of the company increasing or decreasing QoQ
-What is the Relative Strength of the stock – it is outperforming the index, the sector
-What is the stock market doing
-What are the different sectors doing
By seeing and capturing this data for each trade your understanding will explode, you will see how Market Awareness is key to taking the signals with the highest probability of success.

Universe of stocks:
The best place to start is the NASDAQ. In addition to what Qullamaggie said about high ADR stocks, the fact is that AI is the new driver for tech stocks. The combined market cap of Google, Amazon and Microsoft is larger than the GDP of Japan. That’s quite significant and won’t change anytime soon.
Only trading quality stocks will also help increase the probability of a successful outcome.
NASDAQ is going to provide some of the best opportunities for some time to come. Only diversify when you are well established. I still only trade NASDAQ. No signals = day off 😊 Less is More.

Scans:
Scans are critical. Your ability to understand the market and reflect this in your scans will create a natural edge and increase the probability of each trade.
The choices that are available are improving all the time. TC2000 is good, I used it for almost 2 years, but there are so many more choices to consider now.
See the Useful Resources section at the end of this post for a list of alternative solutions.
A lot of time is spent trying to find good setups. I have evolved the way I scan for setups. I decided last year to learn how to code in python. This allows me to refine and improve the scans to give the best possible setups. This was based on what I had learnt by capturing as much data as possible when back testing. I started by downloading a universe of several thousand stocks and filtered out those with low liquidity and low price. This is refreshed automatically each month. This leaves me with around 1,500 stocks to run my scans on.
Using python I download the data for free each day from Yahoo Finance. I just use EOD data to identify potential Breakout setups, then add them to TradingView and use real-time alerts to notify me when to consider taking a long position as and when the stocks move. I run 2 breakout scans and one combined scan for the 1, 3 and 6 month gainers.
I add high probability stocks to my watchlist in TradingView and set alerts, and then ‘stalk them’ as Qullamaggie says.
I have tried lots of different ideas. For example, scanning for stocks that met the criteria and were breaking out above an upper Bollinger Band level just to see if this made a difference. Always research different ideas and keep looking for ways to improve.

Python Dashboard:
I must admit, I got a little carried away with my adventures in python and used streamlit to build my own dashboard. Streamlit is a free library to allow you to create a web based dashboard without the need to learn html. I integrated all the scans as well into one place. Here’s what it looks like;

https://preview.redd.it/d9md2f8c1e0d1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=6c2bfec06396ec62f30c5a8c7a631821a0032375
https://preview.redd.it/pmrtynsi1e0d1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=d23a3cc6e0bc9e4cb99e277dae60af0c6403ac7e

https://preview.redd.it/rrdrc39k1e0d1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=b451355d612fed38dc8f03ab500bb5832c56cd75
I was pulling in stock data, news, fundamental data including EPS, Sales and Revenue figures. I also tracked sector performance correlations to identify relative strengths.
However, after 2 months of creating this dashboard I realised that all the charting was better in TradingView, which already has EPS, Revenues and Dividend Dates. Now I just run my 3 scans which automatically create watch list files to upload each day. It was a fun exercise however, there are free or cheap solutions readily available that work just as well.

Market Awareness:
Very important, after scans. Part of what I run to understand the market / situation is simply compiled within Excel. Here is what it looks like;
https://preview.redd.it/xeeyc3ul1e0d1.png?width=561&format=png&auto=webp&s=4bf181cc73f45f1b6a4a3e81f16de5e0c7033410

https://preview.redd.it/qysx6m2n1e0d1.png?width=558&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3656e16ef5ccc8b173634a97d820d7796cefd51
When I get a signal I cross reference to see what is happening to the stocks sector and market, to see if this adds to the probability of it being a profitable trade.
Finviz also provides a free map of which stocks are showing relative strength and outperforming the market, see the Resource section at the end for the link.
https://preview.redd.it/jwis5n385e0d1.png?width=1232&format=png&auto=webp&s=d229f3dcc9956d6823351f5604e1a4f26b6601e6
Progress so far in 2024:
So how is this working out? Am I making money in the current environment (May 2024)?
Here is my Equity Curve since the start of the year, up 43%. There have been 93 trading days year to date.
https://preview.redd.it/i3ykd1pq1e0d1.png?width=392&format=png&auto=webp&s=29df3a4ec2e0fab1bf069da47878620619a81837
This Equity Curve represents over 1,000 hours of studying charts, of testing different ideas, new platforms etc. Always be searching for ways to increase the probability of a trade being profitable. Needless to say, my first year did not look like this! 😊
You absolutely can increase the probability of trades being profitable if you study and understand the market behaviour. Then you start to trade with confidence and without emotion.

3 Lessons I have Learnt:
1 – Study, constantly. Look at charts, make notes and log all this somewhere. I use OneNote and Excel to capture this every day.
2 – Focus on quality scans, searching for the best setups.
3 – Be inquisitive. Try lots of different ideas to improve your edge and increase the probability of profitable trades;
-Filter out illiquid stocks from your universe
-Don’t trade stocks < $5 as these can be prone to pumps
-What difference does increasing volume make?
-Do increasing EPS figures improve the outcome?
-What if I scan for stocks breaking out above an upper Bollinger Band instead?
-What different types of news has the best positive influence on a stock price?

When you have spent time asking and then answering these types of questions, and have studied as much as is required, you will know that you are ready to start to risk your hard earned money. And you will have a positive expectancy of a profitable outcome.

2024.05.14 15:03 SarahHowi113 Lactose intolerance?

Hi all, I've suffered with cramps, bloating and digestive issues my whole life. After not getting very far with my GP I decided to do a private food intolerance test which came back as positive for intolerant to cows milk and yeast.
I sent these results to my GP and she replied that she has coded my records with lactose intolerance and yeast intolerance.
Is cows milk intolerance and lactose intolerant the same thing? Google tells me the most common reason for a cows milk intolerance is the lactose in it so I'm thinking yes. Either way I guess I'm cutting out dairy!

2024.05.14 15:01 sdvolunteer Changing OBs? Advice Please!

Second time mom in the US due in December. With my first, we adored my midwife, and I trusted her judgement completely. We have since moved states and I became pregnant 10 months postpartum, so we had to quickly find a new OB.
At my confirmation ultrasound, the ultrasound tech said she couldn’t share any information because my OB “will yell at the techs”. She did show me the heartbeat to calm my nerves, but explicitly avoided saying anything positive about the pregnancy.
48 hours later, I still didn’t hear anything so I called the office. My OBs nurse was out, so I had to wait over the weekend before I heard anything. On Monday the nurse called me and said “did the ultrasound tech not give you a photo of the ultrasound? Weird, they usually do.” Which contradicted what the tech said.
I was bleeding right after I took a positive pregnancy test, so had the tech not shown me the heartbeat, I would’ve been worried sick from Wednesday to Monday when I finally heard back. I’m also feeling disconnected from this pregnancy compared to my first, so not receiving the ultrasound makes me feel horrible.
I don’t know if this warrants changing OBs or if I’m just being emotional from sleep deprivation… any input is welcome!

2024.05.14 14:59 emilymh99 First pregnancy..scared

2024.05.14 14:57 polaroid_schizoid Why 6s hate being called 6s: a memoir

Just kidding, it's not a memoir. Yes, I'm back at it again with everyone's favorite topic. Anyway, there's a few reasons 6s despise being called 6s and why they might mistype so easily:

1. 6s are naturally attuned to sentiment analysis.

What do I mean by this? I mean that 6s are very carefully listening to the things that people say, the chatter that goes around, because they don't want to be left out of the loop. It doesn't matter what variant the 6 is, this "attunedness" is one of the defining and characteristic traits of 6s. In unhealthier 6s this verges on the edge of paranoia, sometimes even dipping into it fully, where the 6 feels like you are talking about or more specifically against them. Usually the arguments stem from some sort of misalignment or misunderstanding of language choice where the hyper-specific language of the 6 in question doesn't match the environment. To combat this, mirroring the 6's language choice will do wonders.

2. 6s are inherently distrusting because of their ambivalence to authority.

There's a misconception that 6s somehow like being told what to do, but that is not the case. Really what they want is clarity. 6s will not accept anything that does not resonate with their truth. The ambivalence of authority and trust that 6s have often spawns from mistreatment, so when you try to tell a 6 "what they are" even if it may be true, the instinct is to deny or shut it down. Unless framed properly, 6 brain interprets it as something along the lines of "I KNOW YOU MORE THAN YOU DO" "YOU ARE LESS THAN" "YOU DON'T KNOW YOURSELF" "YOU'RE NOT [desired trait] AND NEVER WILL BE" so of course the instinct is going to thrash against it unless you have evidence of the contrary that isn't belittling. This distrust, though, is natural to the 6 so calling it out as some sort of failing isn't going to get you very far at all. It's

3. There is a genuine undercurrent of belittlement and predation.

Being openly vulnerable in this world invites harassment and scrutiny. Despite being a Head type, 6s are a bit unfortunate with being naturally expressive of their emotions. 6s wish they could simply be straightforward about things and have their needs respected, but they are aware that it's only going to lead to more trouble. Because they feel the "trouble" anyway, a more counterphobic 6 tends to get into arguments about this expressiveness, while the phobic 6s try to keep it under the hood. Predators often see young 6s as targets which is what spawns and then reinforces the natural defenses that 6s have. On the flip side though, this sudden vulnerability is a shocking component that 6s have and can catch people totally off guard even in good ways if they aren't prepared for it.
A lot of people genuinely see 6s as "weaker" 8s at best or whiny children at worst, and a lot of those people are also unconscious 6s themselves.

4. The 6 descriptions outright suck.

We all know this to be true, but the descriptions of 6s don't do it much justice leading to the community to form unjust stereotypes and give all of the positive 6 traits to someone else. Think about the various stereotypes - Analytical, intellectual? Sorry, that's a 5. Strong, tough, protective? That's an 8! Caring, sensitive, devoted? No, that's a 2. Creative, emotive, deep? That's a 4! 6s are left with... drumroll loyal, which might as well be spitting in their face to the type that is most inherently distrusting and sensitive about their natural human vulnerabilities. Pragmatism, the thing that 6s do best, isn't something that is often valued and 6s often don't see themselves in it.
Back to the first point, 6s are so attuned to this that they will reject it because they sure as hell don't see themselves as more "loyal" than anything else, nor would they consider that a strength even if they did. 6s aren't some nondescript type, but from the descriptions you'd think they are. 9s have a similar problem of being delegated to something less than and generic but their psyche doesn't demand they fight it, so they typically don't. This problem really isn't unique to the Enneagram community, it's genuinely fucking everywhere, but this is just how it happens to play out here. It's similar to "sensor discourse" in the MBTI community. This is a double whammy for the 6s who happen to feel alienated from society as a whole, because again you're essentially telling them that they're not only boring but that they don't experience the alienation that they do. "You make up all of society as a whole!!" No, no we don't. 6s are just one of the more vocal types.

5. 6s have naturally low self-worth and struggle with identity.

The burden of consciousness comes at a cost, and for 6s it means they typically start out with a low sense of self-worth. Growth for 6s is accepting this burden of consciousness and becoming a truly confident being. Some 6s take on a more aloof or rash persona to combat this, but true confidence is not something that can be faked. Unfortunately though this can be so convincing that even the 6 is not aware of their self worth, as "what they feel is what everyone feels" (unconscious projection). It can't be understated that these mechanisms are truly unconscious so they won't even know they are doing it, which means until the 6 can identify it within themselves they have to fight and test it.
Being an attachment type, 6s can struggle with identity. Unlike 9s, they typically are only aware of what they are not. It isn't until the patterns have crystallized and become identifiable to the 6 that they feel they know who they are. This is again not something that can be touched externally, but accepting what they are in the moment goes a long way.
To avoid the problem of 6s complaining or mistyping, it takes pretty much the same thing it does for everything else wrong with the world: An open discussion, but also empathy. 6s crave an understanding more than anything else, so showing them that you are trying is often good enough to put down the knife. Basically, let the 6 come to their own conclusions.
Personally, the only people historically that have snapped me out of my aggressive moments were the kind ones. The rest I could easily brandish as "against me", but not the kind ones. Try to be more kind with the things you say, even if you are joking. As much as I like the dog joke, doing it all the time without content of substance about 6s is just going to reinforce all of the trigger points. If you're going to be joking about someone or something in general, it's best if you don't "punch down". Hopefully this post will change at least some things people think.
Woof woof.
