Before requesting to try Jornay PM I tried to do a lot of research. Within this community I saw several people posting that they would share their journey for people trying to do the same research I was trying to do, but didn't see any that actually kept up with it.
I would like to do this & I think I can actually keep up on it because I'm heavily into researching things, so much so that I transitioned my career into a research role. I love learning, finding resolutions & sharing what I learn. If I can I can help others in the process, I'm even more into it.
We all know that medication effects different people in different ways. This will be an account of my experience. I plan to update this for at least 6 months & then I may return at a year if I'm up to it/remember.
Background: I have combined type ADHD, inattentive primary. I have also had delayed sleep phase syndrome for as long as I can remember, definitely longer than I have been diagnosed or knew what DSPS was.
With my DSPS I could be exhausted all day, with an extreme low mid-day, but my energy would shoot up at sundown no matter what. It is very difficult for me to wake up. I hate mornings. I tried all the things: No light, red light, white noise, brown noise, nature sounds, mindfulness, no electronics, reading before bed, hot Epsom salt baths, melatonin, Rx sleeping pills, etc. Nothing worked. Lay down at 9-11 pm, no sleep til 1-3 am.
I was on Adderall. I tried XR at first. Although it helped my ADHD symptoms, it exacerbated my sleep issues. I switched to IR thinking it may help. It did not. I lowered my dose thinking less effective treatment may be worth being able to sleep. It did nothing. I have spent a year & a half falling asleep from 4-7 am & having to start work at 8 am.
My hope is that Jornay PM will effectively address my ADHD symptoms as well as help me with my sleep disorder. I was started at the equivalent dose to the dose I was taking of Adderall: 20 mg Adderall; 40 mg Jornay PM. Even though my Adderall was too low my PCP didn't want to increase on the new Rx until we knew how it would effect me.
I have spent 1 week on 40 mg Jornay PM. It has had no effect on my symptoms. Today my PCP increased my dose to 80 mg. I will update.
Ps. The coupon on the Jornay PM website works as long as you choose a pharmacy that accepts it. I use Rite-Aid. The first dispense is free, $25 after with my insurance coverage. $75 without insurance coverage. Otherwise it is like $400-something.

(M20) About 3 days ago me and my girlfriend had sex and ever since then there has been a spot on the shaft of my penis that is very tender and hurts to touch. Whenever it rubs against my underwear there is a sharp pain and initially I did not see any redness but today there has been a lot of inflammation around that area. I’m super confused cause I’ve never had this symptom before, I’ve only had discoloration (white areas) and some shedding/cracking of my skin occasionally. Has anyone else experienced this tenderness and sharp pain after sexual activity? Is this related to LS?

TLDR: Some background. I live in a city that has an artist's co-op. During the pandemic, we relocated to a wonderful location. We were asked by the President when we picked up our door fobs if we agreed to have our personal info/image on the website. I said no because I was stalked, and have PTSD because of it (for real). I am on disability for this and depression. I have not worked for quite a while.
Forward two years later. Another member of this co-op asked if I would sell her small work at the outdoor market I had arranged. Let's call her Joy. I said yes. Then to help me with the tent, I asked her to come with me. I said it would have to be only be her small work, because I had over 138 pieces. Six weeks later, the night before (to make this part very short), I asked her how many pieces besides the small works she was planning on bringing bc I saw her picture of a fully loaded car. (!) She replied Well just come out and tell me you don't want me to go! I thought very carefully about my response because she has a sharp temper often in the studio. My response was to tell her that she should do what she feels is best. You can just imagine the text fall out from that. She went off on me via text. Therefore, she did not go.
Weeks later, I am at the co-op on my scheduled night. She shows up (she knew I was there bc she saw my car). The second the last person left, she started to scream at me. When she turned around I texted a fellow member to say I was in trouble. I ran to the bathroom and locked the door. I was in there for at least half an hour. The member talked me through it, said that she would have her bf call 911 if she was still there. I was sobbing and shaking. But she had indeed left.
Two days later, I went to the police. They told me that I had to go through the board at my co-op first.
At this point, at no time was there any bylaws posted or shared with any member. I got a copy from a board member though she apologized that it wasn't posted.
I did report it to the President. Her solution was to have a separate meeting with Joy and me at the guild. And I was told that I would have to sign something. The day before the meeting I hired a lawyer to accompany me because I no longer felt safe in that space.
The president commented that she had evidence that I was entering the space. I said that yes I was, but it was late at night (like 1 am) , and I would lock the door put a sign up with my cell number to call to be let in. I was told by my psychologist to do that (I have a letter stating that) bc of my ptsd. All the times that I did go in, not a single guild member ever showed up.
Within half an hour of sending that email, I was told I was kicked out immediately. It was cc'ed to all 90 members. They took two months to refund my fees and then didn't refund the correct amount.
One of the bylaws of this provincially funded co-op is that you cannot be a member in good standing unless you pay for the full six months. I have it on record that Joy bragged about only paying her fees monthly because the president was her bestie. I have text from another member who also only pays in monthly instalments.
It's coming up to almost a year. I am considering going to the human rights commission but I am not sure if this would be considered a violation. I did not go back to the police because I could barely take care of myself. I felt like I was retraumatized all over again. The president knew I had ptsd. Maybe she thought I was joking?
I hired a lawyer and she stated that what was done was against the Society's Act, but it would cost 10 000 dollars, so why not wait until the board changed? Now the president is the treasurer. Go figure.
Is there any point taking this back to the police? Is there any point in going to the Human Rights Commission?

This isn’t really a mom post but I feel better posting here than in a doctor sub, as they can be pretty rude. Would really love some insight if any of you had this happen and what it was?
For the past few years I have felt crappy most days than few. Lately this past year it’s been a nightmare. In may 2023 I had a random cyst that’s been deep under my skin rupture and it turned out to be an extremely rare type of staph and an unidentified other type of bacteria. I was on 2 antibiotics before I was sent to the hospital. I was then admitted and on 3 iv antibiotics and it kept getting worse and I kept having reactions to literally every antibiotic. They ended up having to cut a gold ball sized hole to clear the junk out and I was in patients 14 days and had a nurse come daily for 3 months to my house. Then in December I caught Covid and was admitted four days and in February flu b and admitted another 7 days because my body was going ape shit. High BP High HR High Temp and no meds helped. Now I have more cysts than ever and have literally waited a year to get into a derm. All my bloodwork is perfect minus low iron. I’m so over how I feel. I’m nauseated 24/7, tired all the time, get boughts of high heart rates for days on end (135-147) (normal ecg minus tachycardia) feel like I’m going to pass out, dissociate all the time, horrible memory, periods are all out of wack, smell burning all the time or rubber, itch all over, bad constipation or diarrhea, a crawling and burning sensation in my skin, my face is always red, I feel malnutritioned even though I’m 214 and haven’t lost weight. I eat healthy 80/100 and am active at work. I drink a ton of water, watch my sugar and dairy and grains. I don’t do drugs, I do smoke ciggs sometimes, but I feel like I’m stuck in flight or fight. I can’t sleep, and when I do sleep I’m either up every hour or out for 12. I have dark circles under my eyes and my teeth are basically rotting and can’t find a dentist who will take my insurance. Literally every blood test I’ve had is fine! I’m to the point I cry every night and at work because it’s too hard on my body. I’m a single mom and this job is the only one I have and I can’t find anything remote or anything that pays better. I don’t know what to do. I’m seriously depressed and anxious 24/7. Has anyone had any of these symptoms? Even in the hospital the doctor kept saying it sounded like withdrawal but I’m literally on no drugs that would cost me to withdraw. I take Ativan maybe once a week if I’m having a panic attack only. My doctor is at a loss.
To add, when I do eat I immediately want to vomit but don’t and even water fills my stomach yet I’m still over weight. I’m starting to think it’s all inflammation.

Hi! When I was 7, my mom took me to our local Claire’s to get my ears pierced. I wore mainly earrings from Claire’s, and I unfortunately made the mistake of ignoring a few things in the healing process (ears were itchy and red around the area and the earrings hanged lower in the lobes overtime). Months later, one earring dropped out at the Walmart check-out. I split my earlobe and I didn’t feel it happen. Just noticed the earring on the floor. My parents called a plastic surgeon about it, and they said to hold off doing anything about it until I was older.
I stopped putting earrings in the other lobe, and I use the split one as a conversation starter. I’ve been pretty nervous about doing anything else since. After hearing piercing gun stories over the years and enough Claire’s horror stories I learned from the mistake. I also discovered people can have nickel allergies from earrings, and the symptoms I can recall match the ones I’ve heard.
I wear clip on earrings occasionally, but they do burn after wearing them for a while. I‘m not planning on fixing the split one. I think the un-split one has healed the best it could. I’m not sure if it is completely closed, but I don’t want to take the risk of forcing an earring in it.
Should I get the un-split one re-pierced? If I have a nickel allergy, are there other materials/brands I should be wary of?

Hi, fairly mundane question here. I'm (23M, 5'8'', 165lbs.) mostly asking because my doctor has not been very communicative and I can't get an appointment with a urologist for weeks, as well as the fact that symptoms seem to be worsening.
The main symptom is my penis itching, which got progressively worse over the past month or so and eventually made me go to the doctor. The penis (especially head) seems to be irritated and red, and I've noticed pale white spots that have developed on the skin and stuck around (not sores). There is also slight discharge and a weird smell that comes from the penis sometimes. When I urinate there's an itching sensation within the urethra (wouldn't really call it burning). There is also occasional testicular pain and pain in the urethra. I went to my doctor earlier in the month and received a diagnosis of balanitis. She gave me an anti-fungal cream to try (clotrimazole) in the event that it was a yeast infection. She also ordered some urine tests.
All values from the urine test came back normal except for Leukocyte Esterase, which was abnormal at 2+. pH results were at the very edge of the normal range at 7.5. Test noted "Bacteria: None Seen." Tests also noted "Mixed urogenital flora 10,000-25,000 colony forming units per mL."
The anti-fungal cream does seem to help with the itching around the time it's applied (been doing twice a day - once in the morning, once at night) but my overall condition doesn't seem to be improving since I started taking it a week ago. I'm still itching and experiencing the other symptoms. Recently I've started getting a weird discomfort in my abdomen on occasion but I don't know if that's a real symptom or just my paranoia.
Previous tests came back negative for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Is this a garden variety UTI or something more? Should I be concerned?

This has been bugging me for awhile now, and I think I have some pictures up on an old post showing me pulling skin off my neck/jaw area (and note: it got even worse since). My doctor gave me a referral for a dermatologist, but I still have some time before the appointment.
As I stated above, I can pull my facial skin almost like I have EDS; however, I have no other symptoms of EDS, and the skin laxity ends around my shoulders/collarbone. EDS was the first thing my doctor said before I showed her I did not have the same laxity on my forearms.
I’m only 27 (and male, 5’10”, 225lbs— probably useful info), but I’m becoming horribly prematurely aged, and it’s killing my confidence. The bizarre thing is, though, is that my skin quality is actually looking really good. Red light therapy has made my complexion look better than it has in years, cleared old scar tissue from pimples I popped, and gotten rid of all but a few stubborn forehead wrinkles I’ve developed from raising my brows to keep my vision clear of excess skin and my nasolabial folds. My skin is soft and thick, almost too thick, and it’s like almost like everything underneath the skin has melted. I really think that’s the problem— the fat and muscles that once held my face together are either disappearing or dropping, and I’m left with one amorphous, gelatinous blood pooling into my jowls and neck. Despite being overweight, I can feel every last bump and crevice in my cheeks, around my eyes, along my jaw and brow, etc. Yet the skin just covers over all of it like a mask, and it just makes me look fat (and as I just said, I am overweight, but my upper body does not look horribly so. I have massive legs, so people often think I’m a good 20-30lbs less than I really am). But it’s like all the fat has drained off my face and is sinking downward.
I’m at a loss. I keep thinking it can’t get worse, but it does. It’s affecting my vision, it makes my head feel heavy, I can feel my skin fold with every movement of my neck. Obviously, it’s destroyed my confidence and desire to be in public or date. And now as I read about stuff like acquired cutis laxa, I’m worried it could even be tied to stuff like cancer.
It’s worth noting that these symptoms really took off after a COVID infection. My case was very mild, but it was afterwards that things got bad. Tremors, spasms, heart palpitations, blood pressure spikes, brain fog, joint pain, muscle strains, you name it, I probably had it. I lost fat passing in my hands and wrists as well (strange thing to notice, but very evident as a powerlifter, golfer, and baseball player. Things start feeling different in your hands, your gloves stop fitting right, stuff like that). The tremors, heart palpitations, and all that cleared up last November after I upped my water intake from about a half gallon to at least one gallon a day, and all labwork was normal, if not better than before I was sick (no more vitamin D deficiency, testosterone up as my prolactinoma was finally under control after several years), except for positive antihistone antibodies. The rheumatologist said not to worry about it for now because everything else was normal, and he expected I had had an inflammatory reaction to the virus and the flare up was over.
I’m at my wit’s end. This is ruining my life, and not one doctor aside from my PCP seems to care because they dismiss it as a cosmetic concern.

This is where I (25F) am mentally with him (32M) . - I enjoy spending time with him, he’s a sweet guy. - I am attracted to him, he has a beautiful smile - I enjoy conversing with him. - We have a crazy amount of interests in common and seem to value the same things. - He’s very smart - We are both child-free which is hard to find. - Ultimately If I had written someone with the interests, intelligence, and physical appearance I would want in a partner, it would be him. But there are things I would not have written…and I find myself confused much of the time. The negative: - He is a bit inconsistent in that he says many things, but does not act in line with his words. - Calling me dear, saying he misses me, I really enjoy your company, etc. all very nice things to hear (read through text). He says he hopes he can do something for me for my birthday which is either him being nice or him actually hoping that we continue on with each other but in that case, why make such little effort to actually make plans with me and talk to me? He’s big on sporadic texting convos throughout the day. I understand having a job, so do I lol and I’m studying everyday but…I am used to dating people who diligently make time for me as I do for them. He works from home 9-6 M-F. No pets or other responsibilities that I know of at least. He doesn’t ask me what my schedule is like so that he can plan even a phone call (which I have done, and yesterday I also asked him if he wanted to do something with me and the answer was just essentially “oh no I can’t I’m sorry,” no offer of an alternative). He cancelled our second date and didn’t even try to plan a new one. When I asked him later that week if he wanted to get together again, it was “I was going to ask but…” I don’t even remember what his reasoning was, I think something about being “nervous”. He says he’s shy. He is a bit awkward I suppose. That is also inconsistent (he touched me on our first date and asked me for a hug both of which I was fine with, saying he misses me a day after our first date etc. don’t seem to be shy things), but idk I’ve never dated a shy or reserved person so I am a bit out of my depth to determine what is normal/a symptom of that and what is a red flag. - As much as we have in common, would I be throwing it away if I didn’t want to go into a relationship with someone with whom I have to initiate everything? and I’m not sure if I have to patience to teach a 32 year old how to date/ show clear interest/ put in effort. This will probably sound petty lol but also he doesn’t seem the least bit concerned with trying to impress me (and I just mean effort wise, at least at the beginning!?). I stay casual but do get all dolled up when we get together and on our second date (farmer’s market/breakfast) he wore sweatpants and an ill-fitting t-shirt. This, of course, is small but in addition to the other low efforts it makes me wonder.

I have struggled with major depressive disorder and anxiety for my whole life. I remember being as young as 6 or 7 and thinking that everyone I knew would be so much happier without me, especially my parents... like they'd be happier with my younger siblings being their only children, because they always favored my younger siblings.
When I was a teen, my desire to end my life became more and more prominent. I was raped by someone I trusted. It happened the day of or the day after I was released from a 3 day inpatient hold for attempting suicide. I didn't tell anyone for over a year. I regretted throwing up all of the pills I took to attempt suicide (changed my mind last minute), and wished I had succeeded ever since.
I had further traumatic events and abuse leading into college and my early adulthood. I've been in therapy for more than half of my life now (on and off because doctors have left their practices, I've moved states multiple times, etc). I've been on so many different drugs and combinations of drugs, I can't even keep track of them all. I've tried everything that is available to me to feel better.
I've turned to religion and realized that was bullshit. I have tried medications and eventually end up in the same place mentally. I've done group and solo therapy. I haven't done longterm inpatient or some kind of rehab facility, because I'm in the stupid US (and a red state, to boot!) and I've never been able to afford it - even with insurance, it is unrealistic and unattainable. I can't drink alcohol because I have 0 tolerance; I even tried becoming an alcoholic for about a year, and it just never worked (I know, I know, that sounds stupid... who wants to be an alcoholic? Someone who wants the pain to stop). I don't do drugs (aside from what's prescribed, and only within the last 3-4 years have I started smoking weed. Weed, surprisingly, helps with the majority of my symptoms. My CPTSD, anxiety, OCD, etc all chill the fuck out - but my depression is always a constant) because I've always been a goodie-two-shoes and I've never known anyone to get drugs from. It was easier to find a weed connection because it's so available now. I've tried being an absolute health nut, but it just triggers my eating disorders and I fail. I've tried meditation, yoga, finding new hobbies, being outdoors, being indoors, occupying my mind with learning or creativity. Nothing makes it stop.
And all that to sum up my history, just to bring us to now:
I've spent my whole life wanting to die. I'm actually very well educated (I had that privilege, though it didn't help with obtaining any decent jobs), but as soon as I say I want to die, any chance that people see me as intelligent and of sound mind flies out the window. The idea that a suicidal individual must be ~out of their right mind is so baffling to me. I've... always been completely sober and capable of making sound decisions when I've been at my darkest points. I kind of which I hadn't been, because then it would at least give me hope that it might "get better." I've stayed out of guilt, not wanting someone to find my body, not knowing who would take care of things I leave behind.
Recently, however, things have become unbearable. The person I thought I'd spend my life with ended things abruptly (and for no reason - they actually just spooked themselves, and because of how they handled it and how they've handled it since, it's something we can't come back from). I don't have friends; the people that say they are my friends are nowhere to be found. I've been open and honest with my "friends," said I'm in a really dark place and NEED them to check in on me. Hasn't happened. I truly believe it's just too difficult being friends with me because of my depression - which sucks, because I'm generally an overall happy person. My job is hell; I've had a slew of really bad job experiences (I've had some great ones, too! But the bad ones were... very bad), and I've lost hope in trying to find a job that actually treats me well, appreciates that I work my ass off, and pays me a livable wage. Up until the pandemic, I had 3-4 jobs simultaneously. For YEARS.
So... here I am. Heartbroken, alone, barely able to afford to live (ha, I only still have a roof over my head because the ex still lives with me, I don't make enough to afford my own place anymore because of inflation the past few years), and I'm pretty sure I have enough prescription medication to end things. Because I went through 6-7 different medications over the past year - and tried different doses of some of them - I have a bunch of unused pills. Prozac, Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, 5 different ADHD drugs, some tramadol from a car accident.
I'm just... scared it won't work.

Carcinoid or Serotonin Syndrome?
I’m on a tricyclic and an SNRI. When I drink the night before or when I don’t get enough sleep I get carcinoid/serotonin syndrome symptoms. My face turns red and hot except around my eyes and my heart races accompanied by diarrhea. My sclera also turn red a lot of the times. This began after I tried Wellbutrin for a few days then stopped cuz it happened the first time. It’s been over 2 years since the first instance. My doctor says “we can’t do anything if you’re not having symptoms when you get here” which I know is bullshit but they’re all I have coverage for. This never used to happen and I’ve been on my other meds a year or more before this began.

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 13 by a nurse practitioner and a separate psychiatrist. My parents knew I was struggling and wanted to do their due diligence, so took me to a few different doctors/therapists before taking action. I don't blame them at all because they were just trying to help and how were they supposed to know that it was just normal teenage mood fluctuations that caused temporary anger issues? They simply saw me suffering and did what they thought would help. After explaining about 1 intense mood episode I had to all these doctors, and the fact that both my uncle and grandfather suffered from psychotic/detached from reality episodes, I was put on a low dose of seroquel. I don't know how to feel because I know the way I described it was very stark and I can logically see how they would come to the conclusion they did. But I was 13 and didn't know anything about bipolar, I just knew that something was wrong with me for feeling how I was feeling and I wanted help. I didn't really notice any difference with my moods on seroquel so each time I visited the NP I asked her to increase the dose, hoping it would do something. Eventually I got to 600mg. And gave up with expecting it to do anything about the moods and stopped asking for the increases and just stayed on that dose. And I also feel like it's in the range of a "normal" dose so it's not like that in particular raised any red flags. The only reason I stayed on it was that it 1) it gave me apathy and numbed my emotions which, to be honest, was something I didn't mind when my normal emotions were just me suffering from sadness and loneliness. Feeling numb was better than feeling sad, 2) I'm pretty sure I have insomnia and seroquel was the only thing that let me sleep at night and 3) in low doses it acts as an antihistamine so it helped with my allergies. So I can't say that it was entirely unhelpful, but as I went to college and got away from my childhood I realized that when things started happening to me I just... didn't feel anything? People kept telling me I was so incredibly emotionally intelligent, but that was because I didn't have any emotion so relied 100% on logic to make my decisions. It wasn't like I had so much emotions I could detangle them to figure out what they were, I just didn't have any emotions to begin with and you can't detangle something that doesn't exist. I'm now finally weaning myself off seroquel after reading the DSM criteria and doing extensive research and realizing that although some symptoms match up, I don't have nearly enough to actually align with that disease. I'm currently down to 200mg and i'm starting to smell more things, i'm not longer constipated to the point of going #2 hurts, I don't sleep for 10 hours every day, and I can start feeling some emotions again. How do I make peace with the fact that I spent 11 years unnecessarily on this medication, and the only reason the dose got so high was because I, being naive, asked for it? Because I don't expect my health care professionals to say "no, I think I know your body better than yourself and i'm going to dictate what dose you'll be on". To be fair, the anxiety medication they prescribed genuinely did help, and i'm not so much against meds as I think that doctors need to do a better job at explaining how exactly they work, what side effects can happen, and then ask the patient if they would like to try it and what their boundaries/comfortability surrounding it are and follow that lead instead of acting superior and a "let's get as many patients in as possible" sort of deal. Basically being a lot better at informed consent and respecting patients wishes and not treating them like a number. So how do I get past the anger I feel about how much this medication robbed me of normal experiences when I was the person who asked for the increase??? How do you make peace with something like that when it's your fault???

About a month ago after we finished having sex, my husband told me he could no longer feel my Liletta IUD strings. I’ve had it for 3 years and he could always feel the string during certain positions.. I had some cramping later and a few days later had yeast infection/BV symptoms. Fast forward a week and it turns out my IUD strings are not accessible. IUD was confirmed to still be in my uterus but cannot be reached. They gave me antibiotics and Diflucan to knock out the infections. It has been over two weeks since iI finished the antibiotics and I STILL have yellow discharge constantly, bloating, itchiness, slight pain, and redness internally. My Gyno had me take another round of Diflucan and said I should feel better in a few more days. Spoiler - I don’t! And on top of everything I have a hemorrhoid from hell. Has this happened to anyone else?? I am headed in to an urgent care tomorrow to get a second opinion. The nurse advice line I called said she is not saying this is what it is, but theoretically my IUD could be hitting the wrong spot and my body is reacting to that. I am so done with these symptoms and I am ready for my tubes to be tied.
Advice? Words of encouragement?? Anything I should ask to be tested to?

I've always felt like I was divinely destined to make a major impact in the world. I thought that I'd be a super influential artist that changes the world of politics, writing, the environment, etc. this is fairly normal as a kid but this has been my expectations for my entire life. Even as an adult. I thought my art would never matter unless it was famous throughout the entire world. This alone doesn't make me think I might have, there are a million other red flags. I have a lot of issues when it comes to empathy, like I think I'm empathetic yet whenever somebody does something wrong that I've done in the past, I still judge them as harshly as if I never had done it. I'm impatient w people, especially when I'm stressed. I get pissed off when I feel like my inherent high status isn't acknowledged. I have a major God complex. I sometimes use mild manipulation to avoid extra work or get lighter treatment. Yet when I try to bring this up w mental health professionals, they say I don't have NPD. They say I'm too self aware. Which I'm a lil disgruntled w since part of the reason i recognize these symptoms is bcuz psychology is one of my SIs. I still lack a complete awareness since I think my narcissism isn't that bad till I'm in a situation that brings up these traits. Hell, I almost forget abt it. I do score pretty high on a lot of NPD tests, but I'm wondering if I'm just a hypochondriac

The sky was dark, and she did not know what she did or why, merely acted. Her tired muscles slowed her, her leg a blaze of agony, and not understanding what she did she moved. There was something, a substance that came from somewhere, and with great effort she wove it together, wove it around herself, and had nothing left in her when she closed it from within.
Consciousness ebbed. There was a lessening of her pain, a fading of the need. The world itself faded, to dimness, then silent darkness until only memory remained. She dreamed then, nebulous things, unformed ideas and half remembered memories and long stretches of nothing. Then all at once there was light again. Almost still utter darkness, but compared to the oblivion she had known it was a world apart. The light slowly increased, then dimmed until darkness was all there was. Again and again and again it happened, and each time the light got a little brighter. Sound was next, at first only a gentle whooshing of fluid, but then there was a voice. Muffled. Not always there, but often. Even when there was only darkness around her.
As the light grew brighter, her hearing grew sharper, and eventually she began to discern words. The voice was her constant companion. It was there when her arms moved for the first time, when she first felt her legs twitch. It was there as the space around her grew smaller. It was there as the light grew brighter. When she first began to notice the warmth that came with the light, and the different warmth that accompanied the darkness. Her consciousness came and went, and sometimes when she woke the voice was gone, and sometimes when she slept the voice was there, and she had only the memory of it to know. Now there were sometimes shapes that she could see moving in the light, only vague outlines but it was a change. There were many, some small and some large, but she found the voice came only from the largest of the shapes, a shape she came to know. A comfort, even when the voice was silent, when she could see that figure moving she knew she was not alone.
The space she was in grew smaller and smaller, and she had to fold herself tighter and tighter. She began to feel afraid, her cramped limbs pressed against the walls. She remembered the impact with the ground, and she feared the pain when this world began to crush her, but the voice was there, calm and soothing, and she began to understand.
The change happened all at once. Tighter and tighter she was bound, her limbs wrapped tightly around herself, when an errant movement caused a tear, and light began to flood in, and there was a great rushing and a tumbling and she fell forward into a pool of fluid. She heaved and liquid poured from her lungs. Again and again, then it was over, and she drew her first breath.
There were strong hands beneath her arms, and she felt herself pulled to her feet where she stood on wobbly legs. The hands held her upright. With an effort she raised her head and saw with clarity the shape that held the voice. “Rise, child, and be welcomed to this world. I name you as queen, and as a queen you are my equal. I am Liamin. What is your name?”“Tisane” She replied before understanding the question. But she had already known it. Known it before that day in the sky. Known it when she first began to understand the words.
Tisane’s head began to loll forward again, the effort of keeping it raised too great. The hands left her for an instant and Tisane felt something settle onto her shoulders. “I wrap you in silk, that you might know dignity.” There was something placed upon her wrists. “I adorn you in gems, that you might know wisdom.” Something light was placed upon her brow. “I clothe you in flowers, that you might know joy.” Finally, something was looped around her neck, and she felt a weight on her chest. “And I give to you a piece of myself, a gift freely given, that you might know strength.” Tisane felt a mouth press against one cheek then the other. “Tisane, it is my honor that you have graced me with your presence. Come, leave your chrysalis behind, it is a relic of the past, a thing you have shed, and that you still live means you have already overcome a great trial.”
Tisane struggled to take a step forward and nearly fell. Only Liamin’s strong hands kept her upright. “I shall carry you in my own arms, as I hope to count you as a friend.” And Tisane was swept up. She struggled to keep her head up, but could only manage for a time. Her body limp, she was carried from the incubation chamber.
Since she’d woken, there had been a growing emptiness inside her. “I am hungry.” She said. Not a command, not a complaint, merely speaking to share information.
“I imagine you must be. Your incubation was quite long.” Liamin said, carefully threading her way through the building. “There is food waiting for you through here.”
Tisane was set in a seat, soft and comfortable, She felt the red velvet beneath her, marveled at the fineness of the carving. The table before her allowed her to support herself more easily, and then the food began to arrive. Tisane had never smelled before, and the aromas that came were indescribable. Food, and great quantities were set upon the polished table before her, and she began to eat. Anything and everything. Fruits and bread and fish. Vegetables and mushrooms and meat. To quench her thirst there was water, and wines, and juices. She ate, and she ate, and Liamin gave name to every dish set before her, though she barely noticed. Slowly Tisane felt strength suffuse her. Or something resembling strength. She felt strong enough to stand, but did not risk it. Instead she raised her head and gaped.
Tisane sat atop a throne, but Liamin sat in a simple wooden chair, only a small portion of simple bread before her. Smiling, the elder queen gestured to herself. “This is something I have chosen for myself, but I shall never foist poverty upon you. I grant you great finery, as that is your due.”
“I do not understand.” Tisane said, feeling her strength wane once more.
“I know. But for now you must rest. Tomorrow I shall begin to instruct you in the ways of being a queen.”

My daughter (4mo adjusted, 8mo actual) has home oxygen and a home ng tube. Unfortunately, she has started reacting to the tapes on her face, and both cheeks are constantly red and covered in blisters. The doctors haven’t been able to give us any guidance or alternatives to the tapes.
Now, my daughter is constantly pulling at her tapes, and she is getting strong and coordinated enough to pull them off. She pulled them completely off four times today! Not only is that unsafe, but I’m sure it is making her skin even more sore. The only time she stops pulling is when I give her Tylenol, but I don’t want to give her Tylenol 24/7 for however many months she will still need these tubes.
Does anyone have experience or advice for keeping tape on your baby’s face?
