I moved into this apartment in August 2023 and the complex was sold at the end of 2023 so we got a new management company.
• January we got a general notice that every tenant would have to vacate our units for electrical upgrades to comply with their insurance. They said take all valuables etc.
They gave us three options: 1. Break the lease for no fee and move out. They raised the rent on those units several hundred after people left. 2. Move out with family for two weeks and get prorated rent. 3. Move into a furnished guest suite in a similar unit that had the electrical work completed. Pay your full rent for the time you’re there.
We went with option 3 since it had been less than 6 months that we had a big move and couldn’t shoulder more moving costs. We also don’t have family to live with for two weeks nearby. We WFH so we asked if there would be wifi and desk furniture. They said yes.
They gave us a day an a half to move in to the guest suite. Gave us access on a Saturday at 3pm and we had to be out by early Monday morning. We move into the guest suite and it’s Amazon furniture with no desks. Fine. We made it work.
The internet goes out one day and I go speak with front office since it’s their account, the front office lies and says there’s an outage. Turns out they forgot to pay the Comcast bill on their guest suites. Amazing. I had to take time off work that day to force the front office to actually help. I got it fixed and was able to work the next day.
They finish the electrical work ahead of schedule during the workweek. But Our “temporary” lease for the guest suite gave us until Saturday to move back in. Front office said “no rush” to move back in.
Front office calls us at 6pm on Friday demanding we finish moving back in on Saturday by 9am which was never agreed on. Our temporary lease doesn’t give us a time. It just gives us a start and end date. We finish by 11am and the front office staff hasn’t arrived for work yet(2 hours late) so whatever.
I send them basic email to document that we’ve vacated and have moved back in to our unit. They don’t document anything via email or paper trail so I thought I’d do their job for them lol.
Monday morning, three management staff I’ve never met show up at the door to inspect my apartment of the work that was completed a week ago. I said you didn’t give any notice and they laugh it off sheepishly. They left quickly after not taking their shoes off in a carpeted unit with a collection of shoes by the door lol. I know I’m being petty but I was so tired and annoyed when they showed up.
Not to mention the loud and constant construction noise for the last 3-4 months as they have to tear into walls in neighboring units
I’ve reviewed tenant laws and I don’t think there’s much recourse for this situation, aside from lack of notice. Next time they pull that I won’t let them in and request a notice.
I just really needed to vent somewhere because I feel like I’ve had no peace or privacy for the majority of time we lived here.

A lot of people ask if you can consistently make money at Baccarat. The answer is kind of. I am a gambling hobbyist and in the last 20 years I've probably made over $100K at Baccarat. So, what's my secret? It comes down to money management and waiting for hot streaks. I bide my time playing the minimums and sit out hands when the shoe is choppy. But when a streak comes in I bet big (but not never the entire bankroll in one shot).
Below are the rules I live by when I play Baccarat. They work for me. I'm sure they'll be many of you that have made money breaking some or all the rules below, but these strategies have made me money and put me in a net positive. Feel free to ask any follow-up questions or even voice disagreement with my list. Good luck playing!

1. Accept that you will go home a loser sometimes. This is the most important thing I've learned about Baccarat. I can't win every Baccarat session nor can I break even sometimes. It's better to go home a slight loser than being in the hole $10K. If you are to be successful at Baccarat, you need to fully absorb this. It is the number one rule to my success.
2. I do not employ the Martingale or Fibonacci betting systems. They work until they don't work and when they don't work you're going to lose a lot of money.
3. I only increase my bets after a winning hand and never a losing hand. Human nature tends to want to increase bets after a losing hand to win money back. The opposite should be done. Increase your bets only when you are winning.
4. Employ a trailing stop with winnings. By all means increase your bets when you are on a hot streak but ALWAYS put aside money that you will absolutely go home with as a winner. If you don't know what a trailing stop is, Google it.
5. Never bet against a streak of four or more. I have personally seen a Player streak of 13 in a row (with some ties interspersed) that wiped out an entire table of bettors. If you wan to bet against a streak wait until the streak is over.
6. Avoid side bets. The payouts are wonderful but they are few and far between. Stick with Banker or Player.
7. Believe in luck. When I have a streak of bad luck it's bad. I get an 8 and the opposite hand gets a 9. When I get a 9 so does the opposite. But I also get streaks of good luck, I get a three card 1 and the opposite gets a 0. When my luck is bad I just go home to come back another day.

so I'm in a bit of a pickle when it comes to running/trail shoes. I have worn Altras for a long time for hiking/backpacking, specifically the Olympus. Last year I tried switching to Hokas (SG5) and while they felt good, the tread sucked and I ended up developing a mortons neuroma from the smaller toebox.
Later last year I got into running in earnest, and was running in Gel Kayano's that were recommended by my physical therapist (I broke my ankle in 2022, yay). They felt fine, but the small toebox ended up making my neuroma 100x worse and put me out of running for months.
What fixed it was switching to Altra Olympis Via, the road version of the Olympus. A combination of that, toe socks, and toe separators has kept the neuroma at bay and I can run without bothering it.
The issue I have is that Altras aren't working for me for another reason. I heavily over pronate, and despite custom insoles I still overpronate to the point where it's causing an impingement on the outside of my ankle, often called athlete's ankle or footballer's ankle. my PT suggested that I switch to a stability shoe that is narrower towards the heel but with a big toe box (so called "asian fit"), preferably with some drop to reduce the pressure on that point in my ankle. I'm having trouble finding much that fits this criteria. Altra has some stability shoes but they all seem to be 0 drop, and most other popular shoe brands don't list how big their toeboxes are so I feel like I'm really limited.
This isn't even going into trail shoes, for which it appears there aren't any stability options with wider toeboxes whatsoever, drop or not.
Finding running shoes that work is my immediate priority, but I'm thru hiking the Appalachian Trail next year and would like to get the overpronation figured out before then. In 2022 I hiked 1,200 miles of it over 3 months in my Altra Olympus's and had constant ankle pain every single day from the aforementioned impingement.
tl;dr: any suggestions for road/trail shoes with a wider toebox, stability, narrow heel, and not zero drop? No concerns with budget, feel etc, just trying to stay pain/injury free.

I work in an environment where we have to wear closed toe and closed heel shoes, have to look presentable, and they should be a dark color and often we get into doing construction projects and a lot of physical moving of heavy loads. I wear Brooks Hyperion shoes in black, but they do get sweaty and smelly even within socks and regular washes. I’m going to try out callans as they seem very low profile and presentable, but I expect the suede to look beat up fast. I was looking at Londons in black leather, but I’m worried in 40 or 41 they will look clowny. I’ve tried super Birkis at the store and they looked and felt great, but I’m not sure if the heel is covered enough. Some women at work wear danskos and sanitas with covered heel, but I move more than them and do more kneeling projects so I need the sole to bend. Any suggestions for a birks to wear at basically a construction job where you also sell, and have to look decent?

General Kim was awakened from a sound slumber by klaxons. Years of military training kicked in and he was out of bed in record time. Checking the data pad briefly while pulling on his uniform he saw something terrifying.
“Attack in progress. Launch in 10:34.”
An attack? Who? Where? How? What kind? General Kim was soon out the door to his quarters. He was at his battle bridge before the launch countdown had reached 10:00. Similar scenes were playing out throughout the ship, as generals checked in with their battle bridge statuses.
In the ship’s primary bridge, two kilometers from General Kim, Admiral Sol looked at her command display with satisfaction. 100% readiness in less than two minutes. She was pleased. She addressed the 10,000 soul the crew over the PA system. “An allied colony is under attack by enemies unknown. Wormhole travel will take approximately twenty minutes and thirty-four seconds. Prepare for battle.”
General Kim scrolled through the scant field assessment data. There wasn’t much. A large multi-species colony was being bombarded from orbit. No signs of enemy ground forces. The primary wormhole comms array was out, but an old Subspace system was still functional after 120 years of dormancy. “And THAT,” said General Kim, “is what preventative maintenance is for.”
“General, sir?”
“Sorry. Just thinking out loud. Their W23 system is down but they’re still in touch using an SB-Class 3.”
“I think I’ve seen one of those in a museum!”
“Our grandparents saw them in museums. You make do on the rim.”
Launch and wormhole transit went off with clockwork precision. Soon, the ship exited its artificial wormhole. It was immediately bombarded by the unknown hostiles. Explosions of varying kinds went off on the ship’s hull, ripping gashes in her armor.
“Damage report?” Admiral Sol asked.
“Ablative armor at 97%. No other damage reports.”
“Excellent. Inform me when the preliminary weapons analysis is in.”
Meanwhile, the Admiral's counterpart in the invading fleet, Imperial Agent Skrald, was still screaming, “What is that THING?”
“I’ve seen moons smaller than that ship,” said one of his lieutenants.
“We have to have a record of it. You can’t build something that big in complete secrecy!”
“Imperial Agent Skrald, I think it’s the, “Blade of Scoth.”
“That ship’s an old myth! It can’t possibly-“
“We've carved a notch!”
“Send the biggest we’ve got,” the Skrald replied.
A “notch” was a divot in the ship’s hull of the right shape to prevent weapons files from glancing off the armor.
“We’re being hailed, sir!”
“Tell them we don’t talk to burnt food and end the transmission,” the Admiral replied.
Imperial Agent Skrald watched with glee as the missile made contact with the notch and detonated.
On her ship, Admiral Sol asked for another damage report.
“Lower-port ablative armor section 374 at 40%, pinata layer is fully exposed.
“Can it take another direct hit?”
“It was only a gigaton blast. One more should make a perfect crack.”
“Excellent. Order the candy away from the blast point just to be safe.”
“Already done ma'am.”
“Make a note to find out who gave that order so I can commend them on their quick-thinking.”
“Yes Admiral.”
While the invading fleet pivoted their attention to the new ship, a second Terran vessel, the “Rule of Two Rogers” exited its artificial wormhole on the far side of the planet. A swarm of smaller craft flowed from the ship into the atmosphere below.
Imperial Agent Skrald, ignorant of the “Rule of Two Rogers,” was shouting with excitement. “Hit it again! Fire another!” The second missile flew through space, connecting with the underlayer exposed by the last missile. At first, it looked like the ship was spewing out debris, but the debris started flying in formations and shooting at his ships.
On the human ship, the Admiral smiled with satisfaction as she heard the report, “Piñata 86 has been breached. The candy is flowing. I repeat, the candy is flowing.”
“All stations, fire at will,” she replied.
The eyes of Imperial Agent Skrald opened wide as the surface of the massive ship lit up with a multicolored array of missiles, lasers, torpedos, and something that seemed to fire AFTER destroying one of his ships.
“It’s a rainbow of death,” he said, shocked into immobility by the way his fleet was being erased. He came back to his senses when his ship was rocked by debris impact from his erstwhile fleet.
“It’s too big to land!” He yelled. “All ships to the surface! I repeat, all ships retreat to the surface!”
The debris tore off one of his ship’s nacelles. “Did we need that to land?” He yelled.
“Only to get home sir,” an officer replied.
“Good.”
Admiral Sol watched the battle with satisfaction. This was the Blade of Scoth’s first battle in over 100 years. As a descendant of the famous Ambasador Sol, she took her guardianship of the BoS very seriously. A report came up on her screen. The hostiles had been identified. It was one of the Naga Imperium factions, or they were at least using the faction’s ships, weapons and known tactics. “Bastards,” she muttered.
“Admiral?” Lieutenant Cutter said.
“Analysis says it’s the ‘Naga Imperium of the Bone.’ The colony's 20% Naga. They’re slaughtering their own. Have we established direct contact with the colony yet?”
“Not yet Admiral. They don’t seem to have any short-range communications working. We’re still limited to what’s coming over their old subspace system.”
On the planet below, Sally McCool, a Naga hatched and raised in the colony, like her parents and grandparents before her, looked to the night sky. The missiles had come down, glowing brightly as the stars before they impacted. Now, the bright glowing objects had become larger, but many were breaking up and vanishing into nothing. Were these larger bombs, or was the enemy tumbling out of space?
She watched with growing horror as one approached the ground near the south okra field. She took a deep breath, and braced herself to be vaporized by whatever was about to land. Unable to watch, she curled into a ball on the ground, hoping death would be quick. She expected a nuclear flash, obliteration before hearing the blast. Instead, she heard a massive crash, crumpling metal and exploding components, and a long grinding sound as something huge cut into the soil. A rain of stones and soil covered her.
Sally looked up, and took several seconds to process what she was seeing. It hadn’t been a bomb. It had been a ship, and it had just crashed into one of their fields, carving a huge channel as it ground to a halt. A cloud of smoke was rising. Suddenly, a disk-shaped ship shot through the cloud of smoke. She recognized it from her history classes and old war movies. A flying saucer, painted with concentric circles of red, white, and blue. It was a Steve. A Steve class fighter. They were special. Why were they special?
Another saucer flew overhead. This one was red and yellow.
Sally remembered why the Steve battle saucers were special. They were exclusive to a ship called “The Rule of two Rogers.” The Steves were for battle, and this red and gold ship, as it landed she remembered, “It’s a Fred!” She yelled. She waved her arms, calling out to the ship. “We have injured! We have injured!” The side of the saucer opened up, and a multi-species crew of medics poured out.
While medics swarmed the colony providing aid, the best day of Skrald’s life had turned into the worst in a matter of minutes. He looked around his battered bridge. Even the emergency lighting could only manage flickering glimpses of the sparking wreckage around him. The only functional display was informing him the sewage system had ruptured and was pouring into what remained of the ventilation system.
“Is anyone else alive?”
“I TOLD you it was the Blade of Scoth you idiot!”
Skrald straightened his posture as much as the sharp pains in his abdomen would allow. “How DARE you speak to a member of the Imperium that way! I’ll eat you myself for that!”
“Good luck with that. I’m surrendering to the colony.”
“THEY’LL EAT YOUR FLESH AND MAKE SHOES FROM YOUR HIDE!”
“How’s that any better than you eating me?”
Outraged at the insolence, Skrald lunged in the direction of the taunting underling, smashing his snout against a hunk of metal he hadn’t noticed in the dim, flickering light.
Hours later, sunrise came to the battered colony. Most of the fires in the colony proper had been put out, but some of the Naga wreckage was still burning bright. Emergency contamination domes had been put up over the upwind wrecks, to contain as much of the toxic smoke as possible.
General Kim was on the ground, commanding the cleanup crews from both ships. He’d taken a brief break from those responsibilities to speak to one of the captured Naga.
“The guy in the fanciest duds tried to eat you when we took you into custody. Why?”
“I used to be a pilot,” she said. “Until that moron weaseled himself into enough power to do THIS!” She opened up her arms, as if to gesture at everything around her. “The only reason I’m even here is because I objected to this madness. That royal waste of scales wanted to personally mock me when he won. He even put that in writing on the paperwork for my ‘Away Without Leave’ warrant.”
“Weren’t you on his bridge?”
“Yes. You look confused, or at least that’s what my translator is telling me about your expression.”
“I don’t have a lot of combat experience. Nobody does these days, but hand-picking someone for your bridge crew because they have no confidence in you sounds like a bad idea to me.”
“This whole mission was nothing but bad ideas.”
“Please, tell me more.”
Meanwhile, in the darkness of space, a third ship of Capybara / Human design moved silent and unseen. Complex sensor arrays had been tracing the path the invaders had taken, seeking their origin. Data flowed in on interstellar communications problems, often evidence of ships passing though communications tunnels. The Starship Peggy Carter and her crew were on the trail, and the ship had a reputation to uphold. Latin mottos had fallen out of favor decades before she was built, so her motto was written in English.

I wore vivo primus trail shoes for nearly 2 years, they finally gave way, tried on an old pair or merrel vaporglove 3s and they're super comfortable in comparison but worn out. Thinking of getting merrell vaporglove 6 leather, anyone own or owned any before?

Kind a got into the rabbit hole of finding the ideal trail shoes for my vacation to Canada. I will do a round trip of 3 weeks by car from Vancouver and will visit several different places which include places like national park Banff, Jasper and other fairly remote places.
I will be doing hiking/trailrunning on easy and more technical trails and looking for a shoes which can accomodate both. I know in a country of this size I can expect alot of different kind of enviroments but since we will be mostly in the same region I know one trail shoe will do for all my hiking and trail running purposes. With the given information what would be the trail shoes that you bring. I know shoes is always something very personal and one of the main focus should be fit which ofcourse is something that will also be my main focus. Any suggestions are welcome, I kind a want to learn about how people decide which shoe to take and what would be the criteria.
Currently leaning towards the Merrel Agillity Peak 5 since I hear alot of good things about it but also hear they're more suitable for muddy enviroments and less for rocky kind of enviroments like I'm expecting in Canada due to the aggresive lugs. I'm from the Netherlands and I know the shoes that work for the trails we got here might not work that well on trails like those you get in the states or Canada.

Hi, I've just bought a pair of corduroy bostons regular footbed size 43 narrow. The 43 regular would fly off my feet walking. Just wondering how much you're supposed to feel the arch support? I'm right in between a narrow and regular foot width, and the narrow definitely feel more secure on my feet, but just wondering if they'll start to hurt after prolonged wear, I'm slowly wearing them in inside to be able to return if needed. My feet don't overhand past the edge of the arch support, it just feels quite pronounced.
Is this normal for some people in birks anyway? I haven't worn shoes with much arch support before. Thank you!

Seeking a “foot covering” for hiking that is protective from abrasions to my arch. I used to trail run quite a bit barefoot in my 20’s (before they really had minimalist shoes) and am 48 now. I’ve recently been doing a lot of hiking/camping and have found that I much prefer being barefoot as my toes and foot can “grip” more efficiently on trickier surfaces (crumbly granite, pebbles, etc) I like the idea of just going barefoot as I feel more sure footed because of being able to use my whole foot however I received more abrasions/cuts on my feet ( particularly my arches) and therefore had to go put my shoes back on which made me feel much more unstable. I am a bit overwhelmed by all of the choices available. Basically, looking for something protective that will allow me to use my toes(well really, whole foot) and maintain sensitivity to surface textures. I spend 90% of my days barefoot due to the nature if my work and have pretty high arches and zero foot issues. Thanks.

I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for about 8 months straight now, and I love it! I also really enjoy hiking. I’ve been wearing the Xero shoe’s Hana for the entirety of journey and they are great! while they are very comfortable and quite durable, they are not the greatest in terms of traction. I’ve been looking at their ridgeway mesh low which seems like a good deal, and it’s a great casual shoe. I’m interested in upgrading as well, and was looking at the vivobarefoot Primus trail III all weather fg. I would like to know what your thoughts are on these shoes, and if you have any recommendations for other shoes or brands. Budget < $180. Thank y’all for the help!
